Reviews (page 12 of 14)
liked the quick simplicity as opposed to the longer, more complex work i've heard in other beatles projects. really a 7, but can't do half-stars.
Not my favorite beatles, very 60's kinda boring
garbage...for The Beatles, but not to bad compared to the field.
Fine I guess. Like a lot of their stuff.
I don't want to say something dumb like the Beatles are overrated, because they aren't, obviously, when they have such an outsized influence on popular culture and history. Buuuuuuuuut ... I guess I will say that they aren't my favorite.
Probably on the lower end of their albums for me, but I do think all their stuff is at least pretty good. Will I listen to again: 25%
I can't hate on it, but there's also nothing special about it. Obviously they influenced a lot of people and they are an extremely important band. They're just ok to me
great singles but not enthralled by the other tracks
There isn't a song that you don't know. The songs reminded me of the Beach Boys with simply melodies and less complex harmonies. It is such a part of my culture that I would be happy never listening to this album again.
bit jarring, coudlnt finsh it
I get it - you're in love. 13 songs of the same concept gets a little old (except for one about not letting your girl talk to another guy). I guess there is some interesting musicality to the album? Historical significance? Easy enough to listen to. 2.5/5
Sure.
Its okay
What can be written about the Beatles that hasn’t already been made public? I’m not a fan, yet I know so much of their catalog. That said, their early stuff just sounds quaint these days, albeit with better than expected production values. The Beatles invented album-based, commercial rock, so you have to give them the credit they deserve.
The first all originals Beatles album. Really showcases their roots and how they garnered the popularity that allowed them to set the stage for the modern era of music. The sounds, the film, the pageantry... it was ready to begin
Pretty quick and simple, some good tracks of that love and touring performance vibe.
From the Beatles, I expected more. Definitely one of their earlier albums. Outside of the songs I knew coming in, the rest of the album felt forgettable. Still solid music but I will be listening to other Beatles albums before this one in the future. Also, obligatory, Paul is the greatest Beatle of all time and John was a shitty person.
This is a nice album of quality pop songs, but not an essential album. I guess it's best seen as a development of The Beatles as pop song writers and performers. Some of these songs are really solid efforts.
Beatles var for vilde. Deres udvikling på 8 år og over et hav af albums er som hvis Backstreet Boys havde transformeret sig til Radiohead på ingen tid. På A Hard Day’s Night er the Fab Four stadig i deres boyband ungdom. Det er catchy, poppet rock n’ roll. Det er ikke dårligt, og langt over mange andres niveau. Men det er ikke de mesterværker de senere laver.
3.8
I know it's revolutionary for the time. But in the present...meh.
First album from the Beatles i’ve ever listened to. (Which is the case for most albums off this website) I’ve actually haven’t heard any songs from them, surprising! You’d think I would’ve with how mainstream they are but surprisingly not.
No, it is not their best album. A Hard Day's Night features some Beatles classics, but there are some throwaway songs as well. I decided to watch the movie as well ... it's a bit silly.
it was cool, not the best beatles album tho
not their best but alright
Bom
It’s alright….
Toimii huudatukseen.
If you like the Beatles, I’m sure you’ll like this album, not my favorite of theirs however. 3
I used to jump on Cheri’s bed to this record! I was <5 years old.
Not a huge Beatles fan overall. Giving beach boys vibes
Heard most of these songs quite a few times, the ones that felt new didn't blow me away. Three and a half stars on RYM, but since I know there are better Beatles albums to come, it's gonna be three stars here.
I've heard this artist before, but for some reason I don't really like the style of their performance. I'm probably still young for this kind of music and I don't understand it.
Otsikon mukainen tuote. Ei satu omaan makuhermoon parhaalla mahdollisella tavalla.
Better than I remember - usually stray away from the earlier Beatles but I’m glad I revisited this one! Pop-y, classic song structures but still interesting
I liked this more than Revolver, but not quite as good as Sgt. Peppers.
Grew up listening to Beatles - whilst I enjoyed the reminiscing and listening not a memorable album. They had better
Ieder afzonderlijk nummer zou wel leuk zijn in een playlist, maar zo achter elkaar wel beetje te zoetsappig
Probably good at the time. I just don't care for the beatles.
yeahhhhhh idk
Lots of hits and enjoyable but I've never been a person to purposely listen to the Beatles, just not my genre.
3 stars
Tof
Like a lot of people I don't enjoy the earlier Beatles stuff much, though I have to admit I was still singing the songs several hours after listening to this. This is therefore a very personal 3 stars, acknowledging the greatness but also that I wouldn't return to listen to this one again! Liked: the first clanging chord of the album. 'A Hard Day's Night' as one of the catchiest things ever written. 'And I Love Her' as a classic warm 'n' fuzzy Paul song.
Not bothered with this album in years, I always wrote off most of the early Beatles stuff as too poppy. Sop pop almost. A few songs on here are still like this, I'm happy to dance with you for example. But there are some really great tracks buried in here, almost masquerading themselves as pop but trying to break free. Others are blueprints for later Beatles, You can't do that sounds lightyears ahead of the rest of the album. Actually a pretty decent album on reflection. 3.5*
This album made me consider: were the Beatles the first Tumblr sexymen?
schon wieder Beatles - besser aber immer noch nicht mein fall
This is fine, I guess, but it really makes me wonder why people hold the Beatles up as some kind of Greatest Ever Band. This is in no way Greatest Ever type shit.
First Beatles record consisting of all originals—pretty good stuff, but does feel a little less essential than the records that would follow. The title track is great, I love the weird opening chord. I am really enamored with the one George Harrison sung song here, which has a sound that prefigures a lot of the indie surf or like burger records sound pushed forward by bands like The Growlers. The frenetic strumming pattern and the weird chordal augmentation on the chorus are just really nice touches. These are pretty bog-standard pop songs in a lot of places, but there’s some really nice textural elements in the background. So much tambourine and interesting percussion work not to mention all the great harmonies. Again though, this just feels a little less interesting and less essential, but also I’ve been team Beach Boys over Beatles since birth and that’s not really relevant here but it is the big grain of salt that will season any opinion I ever have about The Beatles
Not a huge fan of early Beatles. To me what sets this one apart is the song “And I Love Her” which is one McCartney’s best
All well-known songs.
A nice collection of mainly familiar early Beatles songs, and a surprisingly quick listen. It makes me a bit interested in finding out more about the movie. A solid 3, given that the Beatles have much better albums.
Catchy bouncy sixties pop from the people that did it the best…..kind of wanted to dislike this more than I actually did
A lower Beatles album for me. It's okay. It's worse than the others and one i would rarely listen to if I did listen to the Beatles often. Check out Kurt Cobain's acoustic demo of And I Lover Her though if you like 90s grunge.
It's The Beatles so there's obviously a handful of timeless classics here. However, I can't help but feel like it sounds too dated. The vocals really have that 50s/early 60s quality and you can tell. Not a single song over 3 minutes as well. 6/10 (3/5)
I can see why the Beatles are considered the way they are. Not entirely my style but it sounds pretty good
Beatles
When i was a kid my parents had a tape of a Stars On 45 Medley of Beatles songs, and that is where I know most of this album from. I'm not a huge early Beatles fan, but those memories are good, so it's OK. Also, Any Time At All has the same George Harrison guitar sound as Fish On The Sand from Cloud 9, which was the very first CD I ever owned. I was a precocious 11 year old.
A fun album.
Definitely not my favourite Beatles album. It sounded a bit dated (which is fair considering it’s 60 years old). But compared to some of their other work it didn’t wow me. Still a solid listen and better than average.
As a fan of The Beatles, I have to say that I prefer their later catalog that is more experimental. Nevertheless, this is pure pop gold for its time and you can start to see them honing in on their craft. Every song is catchy and fun and puts one in a good mood. The small hints of guitar on some tracks are much appreciated. Favorite tracks: A Hard Day's Night, I Should Have Known Better, I'm Happy Just to Dance With You, Can't Buy Me Love.
I get it’s important and all—but I didn’t vibe with this like I hoped I would.
Two saved tracks: Title track - repeatable And I Love Her - is lovely
Pretty solid, the music itself was nothing that special, they definitely got better on their later albums. Lyrics were pretty generic too, but there is nothing to actively dislike on this album, still enjoyed it overall. Just a fun early 60s album that makes for some easy listening. I'm glad this is only the first Beatles album I've got so far, I know it's all uphill from here.
What did fans say when the Beatles broke up? Ono. Not my favorite Beatles albums but it's got a few hits.
I prefer the psychedelic Beatles and their less poppy stuff in general, but this is solid, classic Beatles.
Definitely the Beatles best offering before the drugs, but their music got so much better later.
The “Moptops”. Was an ok listen. Not a Beatles fan but plenty of hits here. “I Should Have Known Better” was the fav. No Beatles on my playlist.
Loved "I Should Have Known Better" Why do they kind of sound like Spongebob songs? I didnt mind in though.
Still not mature, but loads of hits
6.5/10 Feels more like a compilation of songs than an album. Also, not very healthy relationships are depicted
Stor 3'er
Ah, The Beatles! Grew up listening to their music because it's one of my dad's favourite bands. I don't really actively listen to their albums unless I feel nostalgic for the days when I'd be in the car, my dad choosing the music, and doing road trips around Romania and later Canada. I do like The Beatles to some extent. The songs are catchy, pleasant, to me they are kind of happy for the most part because I listen to a lot of music that is darker by comparison. I enjoyed this album. I'm no Beatles expert. I recognized the popular songs, and was glad to hear some that I am not familiar with.
Not something I would listen every day, but still pleasant and enjoyable
Unfortunately, I can't unlearn what I know about the later Beatles albums. This album is good, but still very conventional. I prefer the songs when they became more adventurous. Favorite tracks: Can't Buy Me Love, A Hard Day's Night
Prefer the less overplayed tracks: If I Fell, And I lover her, average track length 2:19 still prefer later albums
Classic album, but it’s not a highlight in their discography. Personally, I don’t enjoy it as much as others, although it contains 3/4 songs important for their discography.
Alright. Definitely better than the teeny bopper stuff by a long shot.
I didn't realize how misogynist this early stuff was. Especially johns songs. Kind of put a bad taste in my mouth with the Beatles if I'm honest.
nice
I can't separate this from their other output. For them, this is an average album. Some great songs, some that are OK. Certainly a nice exercise in the generation of the three minute pop song, but there are five albums of theirs I'd reach for before this one, at least...
I think this is the album before the album that I really love the Beatles. I think Help! was my jumping on point and the melody of Ticket To Ride. Don't get me wrong, still some good songs on here, but I'm more space Beatles than Yeah Yeah Yeah Beatles.
Small bites of well produced and thought music. It can be repetitive for today's standards but I fairly understand why their music was so popular at their time.
I am unable to discern why I have an underlying hatred for The Beatles, and yet, I will not be giving this a 1.
Great love songs, excellent sound, listened to the 2009 remaster.
The singles are a real step above the rest of this.
I can see why they were/are so popular, the mix of country twang, barbershop quartet, and early pop merges surprisingly well. Not my personal taste, but as this is their first release I may give their other albums a shot. 3 drunk dolphins out of 5
cool i guess
Awesome music for my grandma. She would go crazy
Not the best Beatles Album
Certainly not their best effort, but I enjoy it for what it is.
This was the first Beatles album I bought. I thought "Anytime At All" was so good. It's a pretty okay Beatles album, has some hits, some filler folky songs as well. It's neat to hear them transition from straight pop to a folkier sound.
I mean, it’s the Beatles. Aside from the weirdly questionable lyrics of “you can’t do that”, it’s fine. Not the best Beatles album by a long shot though.
Never listened to a Beatles album before; it was alright
Album 5/1001 formative music of the 60s. Songs talking about love and falling in love in many different ways 7/10
The Beatles have an aesthetic for sure. I accidentally listened to this album three times in a row before I realized that the album is actually really short and every song sounds pretty much the same. While this album is regarded as one of the most acclaimed albums in history, I'm grateful to see how much music has evolved since 1964.
Okay, songs are a bit short and samey.
Better than 'With The Beatles' but still a bit too formulaic and cheesy compared to their later groundbreaking work. 3/5
I like
The Beatles put out at least three and maybe four legit five-star albums. This one is fun and cute.
I feel like I can't rate the Beatles bc I'm not qualified or something. This album was very Beatlesy, and while it was novel to hear new-to-me Beatles songs, it was all what I was expecting. Giving it a 3.
it's the beatles
Yeah, sure. Not my favorite Beatles album but I can appreciate a fun thirty minute record.
the music is fine its just not my jam You Can't Do That was weird. oddly controlling
It's been a hard day's life.
its like ok
"You could find better things to do, than to break my heart again" First Beatles album of the list- and third album from their discography. I appreciated the short length of the album, and although I know how influential the Beatles were for practically all of modern music- I couldn't find myself really enjoying most of this album. Each song blurred into the last, and ironically, the song that I enjoyed the most was the one that I recognized because of the Cobain cover (and I like his cover better, lol) Looking at the track lists for the albums after Rubber soul, It's pretty clear to me that this album is just kind-of a nothing sandwich, especially in the context of the other Beatles records. T1- "A Hard Day's night" is going on the playlist because although I enjoyed T5- "And I love her" more, it just leaves me wanting to listen to Cobain's version. looking forward to the first Beatles record that's full with bangers (Abbey road???!!!) 3/5
I like this version of The Beatles, so chill and full of personality.
Very catchy. Happy just dance with you is a great song. Nevertheless, not one of the top Beatles albums.
The instrumentals all sounded similar. Some of the song were repetitive, lyrically, but I loved the vibes.
It's fine
yeah yeah
Classic Beatles but some stuff just too kid like
Love the Beatles. Don't love this album.
Слишком веселый и поверхностный
I can't stand white-guy 50s bubble-gum pop with its coded lyrics for getting some poon from young girls. That said, if I am forced to listen to it, The Beatles in this era are the way to go. I still hate this music but you can see the beginning of the later Beatles in this album with guitar riffs that give a nod to Spanish classical and Indian sitar.
Enjoy this album, some good early Beatles songs and I like George’s 12 string but there’s some cheesy pop in there, too.
A classic but nothing I couldn’t live without.
Mixing of the album is subpar. Too much volume on the vocals. Seems the lyrics is always the same theme about girls, dancing with girls, kissing girls, shagging girls, etc girls..
OK.
One of the midder Beatles albums but still good in a quaint way Music for being a teenager in the 60s.
Listened Before? N An absolute rock 'n roll classic. It doesn't do a lot for me as far as getting me excited or wanting to listen to it on repeat or anything. It's a good album, solid, influential, amazingly well done. It's just not really my cup of tea. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: And I Love Her
The best Beatles classics with some good tracks that I hadn't heard often/before. Basically only love songs.
Yes, I know that they made the path for the rock music, but these songs sound like the ones my 5 yrs daughter sings in the school
The Beatles at their least interesting
just the beatles innit, nothing special
just find it a bit boring not one of their best works
inte mitt favoritalbum av the beatles
Some big hits here. Still had some of the very early rock-and-roll sound. They were just beginning to get musically interesting.
A bit on the pop'ish side of the Beatles. Too much so for me. Still got some decent songs.
Like the vibes
All the songs sounded pretty similar to each other.

Old Beatles
okay for background
I know it’s The Beatles, but their early albums just never have been so interesting to me
Fun listen, a few standouts
My second Beatles album on this generator. Their music is just... so beige and boring. The whitest boy band, pop rock shit ever. Every one of their albums contains 1 or 2 really solid songs (Can't Buy Me Love & A Hard Day's Night in this case) with a bunch of filler spread in, and the filler all kind of sounds the same. The one good thing about 60's music is that the average song length is under 3 minutes each. This album definately didn't overstay its welcome, finishing up in just 30 minutes. Overall, not terrible, but nothing spectacular either. I've always felt that the Beatles were kind of overrated, and this album kind of proves it. Also, one of the dumbest album covers ever. Favourite songs: Can't Buy Me Love, A Hard Day's Night, Tell Me Why, I'll Cry Instead Least favourite songs: And I Love Her, I'll Be Back 3/5
Yeah ok
Very good, some filler though
Not one of my most favorite Beatles albums.
Having a hard time with this one. It's good, I've heard all the songs a million times, and I was noticing cool musical things they were doing, but I can't imagine ever just listening to it. A victim of being too influential?
3/5. Not usually a Beatles fan, but I didn’t mind this album at all. I enjoyed the song “And I Love Her.”
Good album, some solid songs but no more than a 3/5 for me
I love the vocal harmonies. Pretty mid tho
It was okay 👍🏼 ‘If I Fell’ was nice.
But you can't unfairly give this a lower rating cause you have to compare it to something entirely different. miten niin ei voi? Jaa annetaan kaikelle vitosia koska kaikki omassa lajisssaan hyviä..heh... NO EI ANNETA. biitles biitles niin ja näin...no ei ole huono albumi mutta on HUONOMPI HEH vertailua vertailukuvaa nojassoo any time at all
good album but the fact that i was so excited to hear fleetwood mac on auto play afterward shows how i didn’t love it and prefer a lot of other shit
3/5 Best: If I Fell Worst: Any Time At All
I don't know where this lands on their timeline but it felt like they had one foot into the psychedelic chapter and one foot in the doo-whop chapter
Two of the catchiest singles of all time, but not wall-to-wall bangers like some of the later albums. Fair amount of filler.
Classic Beatles, not pushing the envelope but fully in their pop phase.
On this album, The Beatles are still in simple Rock/Pop mode, with the female teenage population clearly being the target demographic. For that, songs are par-for-the-course, but miles away from what their music would become later. The Beatles wouldn't be as popular today if they hadn't evolved their sound away from the sound of their first few albums (this is their third). The best song here is the title track; Can't Buy Me Love and and Things We Said Today also stand a bit above the rest. I tend to give the likes of Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road 5 stars, but I cannot in good faith rank this album equally high. Thus, 3/5.
Classic. But do like the later Beatle albums better.
Not bad, it kind of sounds like every other Beatles song ever.
Solid. Did not blow me away
There are some good songs here but this just isn't the era of The Beatles that I want to listen to often.
meh
"I love your hands 'cause your fingerprints are like no other" "I love your eyes and their blueish brownish greenish color" "I love it when you smile, that you smile wide" "And I love how your torso has an arm on either side"
I like the Beatles but I think this early in their career they are still pretty generic sounding. Other than the title track there’s not much I’d come back to.
Very lovey and superficial. Couple of good tunes.
3.75
Some great moments but overall more impressive in hindsight that the Beatles took it so far from this to the White Album etc.
Sure, the Lads from Liverpool, and all that, but I'm not all gaga for this like some screeching bird in her teens swooning about from heretofore undiscovered hormones.
moptop british boyband. liked em more when they nailed condoms to the wall and threw rubber chickens in the crowd. and when they got on drugs lol
To me this was the quintessential Beatles sound, but definitely inoffensive. Strong all around good album, just nothing that stands out and if it was a different band I’m not sure it would be on the list
Pretty uniform album, nothing to write home about
Da e litt for langt mellom høydepunktene
This is the 7th Beatles album. It should be the last one because apparently their entire discography is on this list. Several well known songs, but the prior comments about the Beatles remain. It really isn't that good of music by itself. The album is short which is good. The songs are still poppy and not too eccentric. I will round up because it is better than a two.
The Beetles are undeniable. I grew up listening to these singles with my dad in the car. His favorite band was the Beach Boys, but he also appreciated the Beetles and spoke to the rivalry between the two bands. He remarked that their voices all sounded very much the same, and they all had the same haircuts. I think this is the album cover that he was referencing. So much of modern pop and rock have this band to thank. Endless hooks and catchy toons, its fun to listen. The well known singles are a lot stronger than the deep-cuts. Still pleasant, but more boring and meandering. I'm sure this stuff was killer in the 60s though. I noticed that all of these cuts are super tight. Nothing is over 3 min. This makes for excellent pacing. Even the more "boring" cuts are over before I can complain too much. High: Hard Day's Night Low: Tell me Why, Can't Buy Me love (the repetition is grating after listening so many times, and the same-y nature of most of these tracks). Strong 6, Light 7
nice, fairly appreciated and enjoyed it, a beatles album you can't go wrong with
- title track is fantastic - all songs about love - not a lot stood out to me
There is no denying that the Beatles were the best among their contemporaries, even with plenty of fanfare to go around with the British Invasion and all. That is about it, though. The respect and acknowledgment of their success and how great they were is well-deserved, but their music is by and large over-hyped. Not over-rated, but over-hyped. Would this reviewer have preferred to miss out the Beatles? No, but the premise of this review is whether or not this album should precede death, and that answer is "no" but with an open mind there is nothing to regret here. Happy and cheerful dispositions in their earlier works such as this album are an experience to enjoy, a worthy trip into the music of the 60s where lots of change both societally and musically contributed heavily what we have today. However, that is about it, it is a good album with a shiny disposition.
It makes sense to include this on the list since this is the stuff for which the Beatles originally became famous, but it's not really what they are remembered for today—just some love songs with stripped-back guitar tunes.
This album is good, and it's hard not to directly compare it to Revolver, which is just a superior album in my opinion. A lot of good songs on this album, but doesn't feel like any stuck with me. Pairs well with making homemade pasta for your roommates Last Supper.
Lots of poppy Beatles songs. Definitely not my favorite album from them but I like it I would recommend Kevin does drugs then listens to this album
Tja, na inmiddels anderhalf jaar The Beatles op repeat vanaf Rubber Soul is dit toch wel even slikken. Absoluut goed natuurlijk maar toch minder indrukwekkend dan wat er daarna allemaal gebeurde.
Alleraardigst.
Nice but not that great
Some good songs some bad, a very mixed bag. However the influences to later Beatles songs are here.
begonnen met "sterk album", nu toch wel een beatles zijn overrated!
Give me later era Beatles
I've never been a big early Beatles fan. I always feel a little guilty about it, made it halfway through this album and was just reminded that I much prefer their druggy stuff to their poppy stuff.
The hits hit, and most of the others miss... For me, anyway.
like it’s obviously not bad music in my personal opinion, it is just a little bit more dated than most other people seem to find it
All right.
The title track was the best song by what felt like a large margin. Every song seems to be a love song. I'm guessing this is from the boy band era of the Beatles?
It was ok. The titular song is a certified banger, but the other songs sound sort of generic.
This album was a good listen but all the songs are so fucking short. :/
average
the beatles
é ok por ser beatles, definitivamente não está proximo dos melhores
Thats history snd very good üop music
This is a fine Beatles album. It’s not too special, and it’s not too bad. It’s definitely nowhere near the top of their game, but it’s a good listen through. There’s not much else to say other than if you like the Beatles, listen through this one. If you don’t, you’re not missing out. Favorite track: Tell Me Why
fun!
A jangly guitar pop album, which is meant as a description rather than a criticism. However, outside “And I Love Her” and “I’ll Be Back” it’s pretty forgettable regardless of who made it.
buen disco, divertido pero se me ha hecho algo largo al final
Pre its creative peak, The Beatles were a great band but not half as great as they'd turn out to be. They had good pop music for the time, some of it quite good (but clearly not an album-ful). Lucky for us, their music got more complex with time.
I find most of this rather boring in comparison to other Beatles material to be honest. In terms of pop it's great but in terms of what the Beatles are capable of I'm underwhelmed.
one of the worst Beatles albums - standard rock fare lying somewhere between soft and hard rock. there’s no longevity at all to this - if the beatles had stopped at this no one would have been listening to it today.
thank god for drugs. they really did improve the beatles. some bangers but there's a lot of generic skiffle crap on here.
I liked it.Short.Good songs.Drags at the end though.
Obviously The Beatles are very talented, however this album isn't quite the showcase for it. Even at 30 minutes, this felt like it dragged with every single track just being a rehash of romantic feelings and love and being sad about love and being happy about love and missing my love and wanting love and having love and losing love and oh my god I'm going to lose my lunch. Great performances though.
A solid transitionary album for the band as they leave teeny-bop behind and begin experimenting with slightly less radio-friendly songwriting. ‘Hard Day’s Night’ may be my fav Beatles track of all time, and though the rest of the LP does slide into homogeneity during its runtime it’s at least a pleasant one.
Second listen. Don’t have much to say about this. It’s good.
Probably the Beatles second worst album but it's the Beatles so it's still a lot of fun.
LP
Hard to know what I thought of this. Not the strongest album, lots of sort of sexist threatening songs in this one... But I know that was telling of the time so I'll resist the urge to cancel Paul M. A few I'm glad I've heard though!
besides the big songs I know, I couldn't get into this one.
Kiva 1960-luvun beatles albumi.
3 more of a later Beatles guy
Pretty swag actually, chill
With 'run for your life little girl' and now 'you can't do that' I'm wondering if John Lennon was not such a nice guy, and perhaps had some issues... Otherwise there are some great songs, but also some filler on this. Like other reviewers, I prefer the later albums
This was a really tough album for me to review. I grew up with the Beatles, but my dad mostly listened to Rubber Soul, the White Album, and Sgt. Peppers. As I got older and developed my own taste in music, I still loved the Beatles but had added Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour, and the goat, Abbey Road, to my rotation. I am a bit ashamed to admit that I am only a bit familiar with their early work. A Hard Day's Night is definitely from the boy band, pop era of the Beatles. Songwriting was overall still pretty basic but it's impossible to ignore how the good the harmonies are, and how catchy most of the melodies are. I was surprised how many songs I already knew despite only two of them being listed as singles. It just goes to show how ubiquitous the Beatles are if one can recognize most of their songs on an album that they've never sat down and listened to straight through before. All that said, how do I actually feel about this album? Well, it's not groundbreaking or anything, but it's fun and enjoyable. After awhile the songs do start to sound the same, and while I think the first half of the album is just incredible (up to "Can't Buy Me Love"), the latter half feels a bit like throwaway tunes. I'm sure I'll listen to many of these songs time and time again, but as an album, I probably won't really return to A Hard Day's Night even though I did enjoy it, which puts it in the 3 star category like so many of my "it's good, but not great" reviews. 3.5
It's the beatles. They're fine. They have a few hits, but most of it all sounds the same.
Some good songs, otherwise a big, one dimensional snooze fest. Product of it's time I guess
I dunno. I like some Beatles songs, these all sounded the same to me
Nice, but dated (is it allowed to say that about the fab four?)
A completely generic pop album, but with brand recognition. It's good music, but nobody would care about it if it was released by "The Pimples" or something. Do not visit Ringo Starr's Twitter page! The man keeps posting his 80-year old feet!
Good album
I mean some great songs but also I just got really bored of love songs after awhile.
Obviously some great songs here because well it’s the Beatles, but it’s definitely not their best record - and I think it’s not a very good one in general.
The Beatles are a GOAT band. That's not really negotiable. BUT that doesn't mean I personally have to love their music. I've always found the Beatles a bit too poppy and upbeat for my tastes. I know not every album is like that, but this one is. just 3 stars from me
I did not expect to like it, althought I hardly see myself going back to it unless i really feel like it. It has the old school lover boy feel to it but it's a bit corny sometimes. I do like some songs and the energy it transmits really takes you back to the time where that music was revolutionary and called the "devil's music" lol. the production is a bit annoying to listen to because you have the tracks split into both sides of the stereo, classic beatles fuckery
я конечно его давно знаю, но в общем периметре именно альбомов он не самое сильное впечатление оставляет
Quite liked it. Of the songs I'd not heard before I think 'Any Time at All' was the standout.
a pretty by the books pop album pretty fun but nothing special.
Aardig, maar vind t niks aparts. Beetje eentonig
3 a pretty great album Not the best Beatles album
Låtarna är alla helt ok men det känns bara som samma sak om och om igen. Det sagt, dessa gossar kan stena!
Pretty good singles, but not quite ya standard high expectation for the Beatles
Not super big on early beatles. Very saccharine pop music
Some nice songs on this album, but otherwise I feel pretty indifferent to it. Just okay, I guess.
Not really my thing but good songwriting and memorable melodies
I haven’t really listened to The Beatles lyrics in a while. They’re… interesting
Not my favourite Beatles album one that doesn't really hit for me like the rest of the albums
De Beatles ... zo lang na de release van het album is het moeilijk om de culturele impact ervan te kunnen inschatten.
Beatles - the early hits
My first Beatles (or Beatle related) album! Never heard this as I'm not that keen on the early stuff. Really competent 60s pop. Couple of great hits. Some filler tracks. Not for me.
Best Song: A Hard Day's Night. Up-tempo, nice percussion in the background. Paul's voice is used well here (within its limits). Worst Song: I Should Have Known Better. Most bands not called "The Beatles" would be skewered for that failed high note. Overall just a needlessly strained vocal performance. Overall: Obviously there are some well-written songs in here, but they make up at most half of what's on offer. And more fundamentally, even for the songs that I did quite like, I could think of covers that I like as much or more. So yeah, the Beatles had a knack for writing pop hits, but often those songs are better performed by others. Three Beatles albums in and I'm still unsold on their position as inarguable music gods.
Agradable. Tiene algunas canciones clave. Pero it's just alright.
S'allright. Songs are pretty decent, definitely not as interesting as their later stuff.
I enjoyed it. It's not the music I'd normally listen to. The themes of the songs got repetitive to me. My favorite songs were "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Things We Said Today".
7/10- not my favorite beatles album but brought back such lovely memories of my early teen years. and i love her is my favorite track on this album 🥰
Some interesting tracks aside from the well known singles but a you on the pop side for me. Good album but not my favourite Beatles album.
This hasn't aged as well as a lot of the other Beatles albums (or maybe I've just grown out of this sort of thing), it's a bit too saccharine. The opener / title track still hits reasonably hard, but any edge that had is very much filed down through the vast majority of the rest of the album. That said, it's a really solid pop album that keeps up the pace through a tight 30 minutes with a couple of really big hits, so it's a comfortable 3.
Who doesn't like early Beatles. Classic songs throughout.
Overall, a very solid album. Although, I do think it sounded more of a safe pop album. I know The Beatles are more capable of better music than this.
Every time I hear the Beatles, I think I'm supposed to like them. But I really don't...
Classy and damn important, but not coming back to this.
Not as exciting as a lot of The Beatles' later releases, but there are a lot of just really lovely songs on here
Just two or three weeks ago I raved about Abbey Road, noting that it was much heavier than I'd thought. Now this is the polar opposite of the Beatle-spectrum. So much poppier, so much less interesting, so much sappier. This album truly shows that The Beatles should always have been predominantly a rock and not a pop band. It has some really nice, fun rock songs such as I'm Happy Just To Dance With You and some of the sappiest stinkers such as If I Fell and And I Love Here. A lot of it comes down to the vocal performances which have bite on the rock songs but are extremely lackluster in the poppy love songs.
Good album. Very catchy tunes. Lyrical content gets a bit repetitive. Most songs seem to be written for young people.
Not really a Beatles fan but I do like their early stuff. The stand outs gotta be Can’t But Me Love and A Hard Day’s Night the rest r kinda mid tbh
A band not yet fully hitting their stride. This sounds of the era…. Yet to discover their mojo!
Pari kovaa leiskautusta ja muuten vähän vaihtelevaa settiä. Pystyisivät parempaan.
Taattua laatua, ei petä
A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Initial Impression: A Beatles' album I hadn't heard prior to starting this. Expecting it to be poppy. Hard Days Night - I really enjoy the percussion in the background I hadn't heard before. Classic. 9/10 I should have known better - pretty solid track. digging the harmonica 7/10 If I Feel - Meh. Just seems like an early power ballad. Not awful, not great. 4/10 I'm Happy Just To Dance With You - I don't know if the Beatles inspired the Hollies or vice versa, but it sounds like that era. Second favorite song on the album thus far. 8/10 And I Love Her - Eastern vibes - soothing. Tie for best song on album so far? (I'm a sucker for that off beat wood block ) that tasty guitar solo too. 9/10 Tell Me Why - Big Sound, love the piano. Honestly, this is an ideal Beatles pop song. 8/10 Can't Buy Me Love - Fuckin' Classic. If you don't get it I don't get you. 10/10 Any Time At All - Another of those Hollies sharedspired songs(?) Pretty poppy. Not quite a hit - clearly as time has told. Aside from the big vocals from McCartney it's pretty weak. 6/10 I'll Cry Instead - Another one I haven't heard. Kind of groovy in an almost US country way. Love the walking bass. Don't really love the song. 5/10 Things We Said Today - Eh. This reminds me of a lot of 60's music. It's not better or worse than most of it. 5/10 When I Get Home - This song feels like a Beatles building block. They take this sound and use it later and make it great, but it's still in it's infancy here. I'll bet it would be great if I hadn't heard the rest of their discography though 6/10 You Can't Do That - Copy my "Ticket to Ride" but don't make it too obvious. (I don't know which came first) 6.5/10 I'll Be Back - I like the salsa vibes. Good track to close the album out with, nice fusion of pop, the 60's sound, and then a bit of pizzazz. 6.5/10 Final thoughts: This is a great start, but things get much better from here. I'd rate this album a 6.5/10. It contributed to some classics, but far from my favorite Beatles album and far from my favorite album period. Can't buy me love is the highlight.
When comparing to other Beatles' albums, it's definitely not that strong lyrically and sonically. However, as it is, the album has some very nice Rock and Roll songs that I like. Fav songs are A Hard Day's Night, I Should Have Known Better, And I Lover Her (fav), Tell Me Why, and I'll Cry Instead. Again, not my favourite Beatles record but I appreciate some of it.
Decent Beatles album with some classic songs. Kinda sits on the fence for me. There are Beatles albums I like and dislike more than this.
One of the greatest bands in the history of music! But this early stuff isn’t really to my liking, and I would not intentionally listen to this album again.
least interesting of the Beatles albums so far. Would be a 4 for anyone else, but when the rest of your stuff is so stellar, I expect more. 3.
A great collection of catchy songs that fail to move me emotionally but do keep me listening (and happy).
Gotta love a short album. I did not know this was a movie soundtrack, that was interesting to learn about, and to learn about the Beatles' inflection point from rock n roll and covers to more pop-based music here. Still not my favorite music, but I'll give it a begrudging 3.
Bit basic
never-ending mania
Early Beatles is still good, but not the greatest out there 🤷
Okay, I really like this album and always have. But if it is going to be i the list of 1001 albums surely that means most of the Beatles albums are in the list as well. Probably a tad over the top?
Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit.
Some early beatles can be fun in small amounts
Alright but all the songs sound similar
I think we can all agree the Beatles are one of the greatest bands of all time, right? Then we can agree this album doesn't stand up compared to their older stuff. It should probably be on here, but it's not their best by a long shot: the songs are all variations of "I love my baby" or "I miss my baby", with some descriptions of very chaste romance. Compared to their later stuff, this is child's play. Favorite tracks: "A Hard Day's Night", "Can't Buy Me Love"
C'est les Beatles. On connait le son. S'écoute bien mais redondant un peu
goodness, "and i love her" is possibly my favorite beatles' song. it's so wonderful and tender yet simple. learning that per paul, george was responsible for the guitar riff in that song made my day. their hits on this album are undeniably brilliant. "a hard day's night" always gets me moving! the other songs are nice to listen to. i don't think there's really a bad song in the bunch. but it's definitely early beatles and i can't get as excited about it. perhaps i'm unfairly comparing to their later, more exciting music. despite that, it was a nice listen and i appreciated hearing some deep cuts.
I like this album...but I don't love this album, as a standalone or really as a piece of The Beatles' discography. It is fun and catchy, and an incredibly significant album in the course of Beatles history. That said, I would put most of the songs on this album in the "good" but not "great" bucket. The particular flavor of 60s pop on display on this album is always kind of hit or miss with me, and this era of Beatles just wasn't my favorite. I'm rating this a 3/5, but let the record show that I'd put it at like a 3.5/5, if I could.
I don't like the beatles very much, just the sound. But there's no denying that it's at least ok.
Beatles early stuff ain't bad. Very pop-y, but generally uninteresting. They're fine.
Some good songs. Mostly simple writing. Didn't blow my skirt up, but it did for a bajillion others.
A handful of classics and the clear show of the promise yet to come from this band.
Didn't find a song that I really loved, but it was all solid
17th February 2022 Listened on the way to and from Salisbury’s picking up some flowers to make the house look nice for the photographer. Bowling in gf evening. Classic but forgettable for me. They’re just warming up.
Half a song in: "Man, this fun, Old Beatles are way better than new Beatles." Seven songs in: "Wow, all these songs are entirely forgettable, no wonder everybody loves New Beatles."
Meh, I continue to think the Beatles are extremely overrated. This wasn't bad but it also wasn't amazing or fantastic, pretty middle of the road and just okay 🤷🏼♂️
The beginning of what was to come.
Good early Beatles. The hits are hits for a reason
Lukewarm. Probably the Beatles' less interesting album. But pretty fun though. Doesn't get boring.
Good but not their best
S’alright. Over-rated though.
Locker beschwingt, aber auch sehr belanglos.
It's good.
I do respect what the Beatles did for music but this album, in particular, sounded like a single 30-minute song. There wasn't any variety to what they were doing. Still an enjoyable listen.
This is nowhere near the Beatles best. Many of the songs sound the same, very simple melodies. I totally understand the significance of the Beatles in music over the last several decades, so I appreciate this album for that reason. “Can’t Buy Me Love” is about the only standout song on this record. Nice to listen to, but nothing of major note.
So, this album was good. But just good. Not really what you'd expect in hindsight from a band as important as the Beatles. Certainly enjoyed it thought.
The Beatles have never put out a bad album. Of all of the older Beatles records, this my be my favorite. The standout songs are "And I Love Her" and "Things We Said Today"
Some were good :) can't day I would re listen
Early Beatles just isn't that exciting when compared with the later stuff but its all important in the overall story I guess. I've never seen the film, maybe that would give the songs more context. Still well done to the lads for starting to write some original songs for a change.
An album built on a foundation of traditional rock'n'roll, but with added minor chords, pop hooks and rougher edges. Mark these boys as 'ones to watch'.
Not the best or worst beatles
