Reviews (page 8 of 14)

I am not super crazy about the early Beatles sound, so this is my first time listening to a pre Rubber Soul Beatles album all the way through. After listening, I would say that this album is good, but not great. There are a couple very good songs, but for the most part I would describe the songs as just good or okay. This is probably a high 3 close enough to round up to a 4. Check out Kurt Cobain's cover of And I Love her, it's very good.

Good but not great, but it can’t reaaaalllyyyy be judged in a vacuum. It doesn’t hold a candle to their later stuff, but this was 1964. This was as good as music got. Great harmonies, very very catchy, Byrds-esque jangly guitars (incidentally, the Wikipedia for this says that this album is actually what inspired the Byrds to commit to a rock sound.) Not one that I’d really come back to, but in context it was a critical step towards what they would do later. 4.5 rounded down.

Interesting to return to and hear echoes of 50s pop along with the occasional intimation of the band they'd be in just a few years. Couple world class tracks here, obviously, but also some ordinary stuff (at least by the Beatles standards...).

Not my favorite era of Beatles, but still some good songs on here. Title track, And I Love Her, Can't Buy Me Love. All good tunes. I especially like I Should Have Known Better. I think I'm just a Lennon fan, generally. Have I said that before? 4/5

4.0 Mind blowing stuff, I could probably recite the entire thing off the top of my head. Fave songs: If I fell, And I love her, I should have known better, any time at all

Jeder Titel unter 3min :) Bei mir fangen die Beatles erst mit Rubber Soul an. Hier klingen sie noch sehr poppig, naiv, you love me, I love you... Wahrscheinlich gut, dass die Songs so kurz sind. Und trotz allem so viel besser als vieles, was ich in den letzten Wochen von der Liste gehört habe.

3.5 decent Beatles album

Classic. Easy to jam to. Loved by everyone. Not their best album, but still fantastic.

It’s the Beatles. What the did for music in such a short time is unequivocal.

I've never listened to a Beatles album beginning to end - always been a snob about them, but this was fun

Good album. 82/100 Great consistencies. Love the middle.

its okay

best song: and i love her

Solid album for the time. McCartbey and Lennon hitting their stride as songwriters and there are some true classics on this. Side 1 is killer, but I still don't quite get a whole albim vision.

Great album but a bit uneven— several excellent songs but also some filler. Not an unexpected pattern for early Beatles albums.

Not rheir best but certainly not bad

simpa :)

Ok mozda drazi od White albuma.

An interesting traditional album. Signs of increasing songwriting maturity while still certainly being "early Beatles".

Yeah, it's okay - you know?

I know this album really really well, even though I've probably only listened to it once or twice in my life. And that's because of watching the film "A Hard Day's Night" so much. So I've grown to love nearly all the songs here, even though they have that "early Beatles" jangly pop sound that I don't gravitate to so much. Great stuff.

The first Beatles album containing only original material and an important step in their evolution as one of the most important bands in pop music history. Lennon and McCartney proved themselves to be serious songwriters by this point. The fact that there were no cover songs was already unusual for pop music of the era. This album won't do much to convince the nay sayers though, as it's little more than a 60s pop album, albeit a good one. Their real breakthrough albums were still to come but 'A Hard Day's Night' was a significant step in their journey.

Thoughts before listening: Pre-psychedelic classic from the Beatles. This is a fun era for the band even if it doesn't quite rise to the masterpiece level of their later output. I'm pretty sure I've never actually listened to this album, but I'm sure I'll know most of the songs. Review: This is not as good as the later releases, but it certainly has its own charms. The hits such as "A Hard Day's Night", "And I Love Her", and "Can't Buy Me Love" are about as iconic as songs can possibly be. For deeper cuts, I really like "I Should Have Known Better" and "Things We Said Today". Overall this is a fun album showcasing the early Beatles sound which would change dramatically in only a few short years. I definitely prefer the later albums, but I do appreciate that this is the first time the Beatles only released songs that they had written themselves. This is 4-stars.

It is nice, but not their best. I reckon I am actually being a bit biased with this rating and it would be way lower if it wasn't the beatles. Their voices just feel a bit grating for some reason - cute music though

If I wanted to be yelled at by Brits for an hour I’d watch Love Island. Good album tho

More filler than I remembered but hey, it’s the Beatles

Некоторые песни помню лучше, некоторые хуже... 69%

A bunch of catchy, clever songs from an almost unknown indie band

I'm a B-side girl Percussion thumbs up Stolen Blues riffs

Good album, no skips. Just no HOLY SHIT moments that a 5 requires

Good music, but not something I'd listen to regularly.

Fine, entertaining but not groundbreaking. Kid friendly.

The Beatles at a rawer stage of their careers, sounding more pop than anything else. Quite enjoyable, even for someone who is not a massive fan of the Fab Four. Bonus: iconic album art!

It not my favourite or one of the Beatles’ 5s but it’s still packed with tunes and great songwriting.

very much the beatles

was gonna rate it lower but honestly its just so consistant and fun, love this shit

The warm up before getting weird and changing the course of music forever. The innocence of this album is charming.

Love the Beatles but not my favorite album.

It's not my favorite Beatles album, but still, it's the Beatles and they're awesome. My favorites are Things We Said Today and I'll Be Back. A lot of the album is pretty early boy-band like.

I tend to almost see early Beatles and late Beatles as two different bands (which is amazing since they were really only a band for about a decade); and tend to prefer later Beatles because they are most interesting and weird. But, there is no arguing that early Beatles could construct whole albums full of pop songs that are so infectious that theyate all niw basically hard-baked into our collective brain.

The boy band sound is strong with this early Beatles album, but the tendency to edge into cloying melodies is nicely relieved by some of the more rocking songs (Hard Days Night, Tell Me Why, Can't Buy Me Love) - which are also often the catchiest. Despite some clunkers (If I Fell), an undeniable classic.

I knew several of these songs as I had a Beatles anthology set as a kid, but at least half were new to me. They’re all pretty much bubblegum pop, short songs, exactly what you think of with early Beatles. Fun listen, even the “throwaway” songs were decent. 3.75/5

Feels like the only way to rate the Beatles is against their other albums. This one's not my favorite. But it still kicks ass. The Beatles are like pizza, even bad pizza is better than most other food.

Un disco Clásico que no puede faltar en tu lista de reproducimos. Los Beatles comenzaron un género, y son un hito histórico.

A solid early Beatles album. I often wonder how they made such a big transition from holding hands and love is everything to the stuff on the White Album and beyond. Drugs probably but bless those drugs. This album is just your classic early Beatles sound. I really liked being able to hear the acoustic guitar throughout the album. I don’t know if that was turned up higher than everything else or not. This isn’t an every day listen album but it wouldn’t piss anyone off if you were playing it loud outside. Choice cut: Any Time at All

i’m more of a mid-to-late period beatles gal myself, but this probably my favorite early beatles album. 3.5

Hadn't listened to this in years. It really stands up. Even early in their career these guys could write great songs and rock.

A Hard Days Night’s title track is one of the highlights of the Beatles’ front catalog. It’s a great movie too.

Lol Why are so many of the reviews so brain dead? It’s early beatles

Not a top 5 Beatles album, but it's still the Beatles. I was surprised there's a few songs on here I don't know. There's nothing too special here, but they are always locked in from a performance standpoint. Great harmonies, simple and effective playing. Great precursor for things to come.

Not their best album.

While this isn't one of the most memorable Beatles albums, it's still solid all the way through and stands out compared to similar acts of the 60s. It suffers a little from feeling samey like a lot of early 60s stuff, but it's still a pleasant listen

I love the Beatles but this is one of their weakest albums and I wish it was replaced with something else. I'd prefer Please Please Me if choosing an early beatles album.

Ikke helt uforståelig at disse gutta ble store.

Pretty good album. Doesn’t have any of my favorite Beatles songs and is a little raw but still a great listener.

A bit lovey dovey

Man, I did not realize how many of these songs I knew. The only song I never really liked was "Tell Me Why". The little falsetto in the bridge never really worked for me, and quite frankly the song itself never really worked. I always liked the Beatles' later period, but this stuff is always good (except for the one clunker). A few of the other lesser known songs... you can tell why they are not as known. They're not bad, they're just not as memorable. So I will give this a 4, but it is so close to a 5 I can understand why people would do it.

Good overall. A few boring ones in the middle.

Very good album....makes you feel good!!!

quality songwriting and recording throughout. Doesn't do that much to stand out, but it is so comfortable to listen to

It's the Beatles, are you serious?

Hard Day's Night was the original \"more cowbell\" song, lol, Ringo's smackin' the udders off of that thing. This is my 3rd Beatles album in the project, but my first collection of pre-acid Beatles pop jams. This is half an hour of 3 minute or less bops that I know all of the words to just from a lifetime of exposure. These lads knew how to write a pop tune. Sgt Pepper's was only 3 years (and 4 albums) after this - it's insane how prolific they were in such a short span. The Beatles' timeline always blows my mind.

I always say the same when Ive listened to a Beatles album, but it is the same here. A couple really good songs with a majority of forgettable songs. I don't hate them, but I also don't see the hype. Guess I'll just have to stick to a Greatest Hits collection.

Classic

I love The Beatles and really enjoy the A Hard Day's Night movie but I don't feel like this is one of their strongest albums. I like a lot of songs on here and wouldn't say any of them stood out as bad or skippable but not quite on the level of their top-tier work. Still going with a 4/5 though. Standout Tracks: A Hard Day's Night, I Should Have Known Better, And I Love Her, Can't Buy Me Love, Any Time At All, I'll Cry Instead

Classic album with one side of greatness and the other side of not as great. Nice to hear the distinctive early Beatles sound again!

Good album. Pales in comparison to the Beatle's later works.

almost definitely the best album of the beatles' early era. really a kind of a testament of the band's songwriting abilities and i think shows a lot of their ambition in songs like the title track, if i fell, and i love her... in terms of straight pop melodies these are def some of the most flexible and infectious they ever made. something so fun abt an album where all the songs are 2 mins too, just good song after good song!!

It's great, but pretty rough... pitchy vocals and some sloppy production in places. Likely the stereo version exposing the flaws. A lot of bravado for a young band. I prefer HELP! and beyond, but this is a classic. 4.2

A classic

Noen bangers, generelt veldig god vibe!

Are these songs fun to listen to because we all know them or do we all know them because they’re fun to listen to? Maybe both. Either way I like this album just because.

I prefer long-haired studio Beatles to mop-top touring Beatles, but their early stuff is still pretty good!

Man I was not in the place to listen to a load of romantic songs. Despite that I did enjoy myself with it. And I love her is just gorgeous. Even when The Beatles were doing generic ish pop they were still great and knocking it out the park.

Parempaa alkupään perus-Beatlesia, ei silti värisytä tarpeeksi

c'mon it's the Beatles

Iconic and brilliant. But obviously only the ground work for what they would really do.

C'mon. Always the Beatles!

Najbolje pjesme: 1. And I Love Her 2. A Hard Day's Night 3. I Should Have Known Better 4. If I Fell

Touches of great songwriting here but mostly a collection of short, pop, radio friendly singles.

Some nice songs and some forgettable ones

A solid 4 album from some of the best song writers of all time!

Fun album

Great production as always

It was good

Bacana gostei, muitos clássicos

Another I've never heard, but I've heard all of the songs.

Seems to be trendy to call the Beatles overrated lately and I'm so tired of hearing it. Call it "boomer music", call it "dated", but while you're at it, call it "music that informed everything that happened in pop thereafter and this album is when they were really hitting their stride. In particular, Lennon was coming into his own, taking about 2/3 of this album's vocal & writing duties, with Paul taking on more as he got comfortable. This is the first Beatles album that they wrote every song on it, which is a feat in and of itself when it comes to 60's pop groups. Apply that metric to pop stars today who can't have less than a dozen songwriters and producers and there's a reason to call something "mid".

It was fun to go back and see them in the beginning as just a simple pop band (that still had substance) and what think about how far they came. Not a lot of hits on this but they were still good.

Really nice

Short and powerful songs. Very relatable and simple. It just works

Klassisch gut

Started stronger than it ended

Classic Beatles!

A lot of the reviews for this seem to mention Rubber Soul, which I haven't listened to yet, along with what looks like another 4 Beatles albums!! To me, this album is pure pop, and like bubblegum after a while you forget that you're listening to it. A Hard Day's Night and Can't Buy Me Love are certainly standout tracks but I think I need to spend more time with this album to fully appreciate it.

This shoulda been the earliest Beatles album on the list - no need to have multiple entries from the early career, and this is the first one where they wrote their own songs, so yeah 🤷 It's a great demonstration of their talent - near flawless pop rock of the era. Later on they'd of course get more experimental which resulted in some order of magnitude better stuff, but also increased the rate of misses. Fave tracks - "A Hard Day's Night" and "Can't Buy Me Love" are both iconic. "Any Time At All" and "You Can't Do That" stood out, from the tracks I was less familiar with....

It’s The Beatles, man.

Recently brought a first issue of this, what an underrated album.

Very good album overall but not top 3 albums of the Beatles

The Beatles are among the extremely rare "untouchables." All one need do is listen. They are timeless and a joy to listen to. With that I can only rate this album against others in their canon. If I consider the subjective "how many gems are on this album" I feel safe to rate this one four stars.

Another good album.

My favorite Beatle anecdote comes from a random YouTube interview with Paul McCartney that I watched sometime in the last few years of him saying that his grandson was gloating over beating Paul in Guitar Hero on a Beatles song, to which Paul responded with “well I wrote the song, you little shit, so there!” I prefer post “A Hard Day’s Night” Beatles albums, but the earlier records are a remarkable reminder that a sugar pop boy band are not just in it for the money and has the ability to reinvent the wheel later on.

They feel like such simple songs but such bops. I get why they were superstars

My 100th album is also the first (of many) beatles albums on this list. How serendipitous. Not my fave beatles but these guys are something else hope they catch on 🙏

hoy en día algo dulce y revolucionario en su tiempo algo hippie y revolucionario

Pretty good. Only knew two songs. Too short.

Rubber sole is better

pretty good for the beatles

Soft 4

1/15/24. Happy MLK Day! The Beatles are not overrated and never should be considered so. With that said, even if the songs are simple, they're effective, catchy, and memorable. Every song here is solid.

Beatlemania, oh yeah (low 4 however)

I'm not that familiar with the Beatles' early work aside from a few singles. This was fun, I enjoyed it, and I discovered a few new songs for my playlisfs. On the other hand a few songs felt a little generic, like they could've been written by any pop band of the time period. Highlights: And I Love Her, Any Time At All

An album that always sounds great with every remaster. Very solid collection of songs at the height of their popularity. Like the movie a lot, not as big on this album though.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all time classic- after listening you can really hear all of the modern day influencing this band still has today. Listening with my headphones I get why the teenage girls were all about Beetle-mania. John’s voice in my ears, sounds like he is singing to me!

The contribution that the Beatles made to the further development of music and the emergence of new genres cannot be overestimated. This early work may sound a little "soft" today, but if you listen closely, you can recognise a precursor of a lot of genres in every song. From hard rock to pop and even German Schlager, everything can be traced back to the Beatles in some way. The album itself is not my favourite, but the importance of this album cannot be denied. Hell, the music that you, dear reader, are listening today, probably won't exist without the Beatles. Everything below a 4 star rating would be a crime.

Schwer zu beurteilen, ob ich das Album mag, weil ich viele Lieder mal mehr, mal weniger intensiv gehört habe und deswegen automatisch die Nostalgie kickt....oder ob die Lieder wirklich einfach zeitlos gut sind. "A Hard Day's Night", "I should have known better", "Can't buy me love", "Things we said today" und "I'll be back" gefallen mir am besten.

Musically a very good album, but the lyrics are not particularly sophisticated.

From that iconic opening chord, the energy never lets up on this. A fantastic album, and the first that is all original material with no covers. Side one is effectively the soundtrack to the movie, and side two fills it out with songs written at the same time in a blaze of creativity.

I'm much more into their studio years than their early pop-rock years, but it still freaking fun to listen to. And it's full of short, catchy songs full of energy, nothing longer than 3', 30' in total; nice and sweet album to listen to. The music itself is not (yet) revolutionary but it's damn good nonetheless -- and actually not so obvious either; the sound of Harrison's 12-strings Rickenbacker is already something. The songwritting is good, and the interaction between McCartney & Lennon is playing well, their voices layered and intertwined for a great result.

It is good. Beatles is beatles, always stable

A bunch of hits. Great music and pop ballads. Songs are all short and catchy and the album never loses momentum. Easy to see why these early albums propelled them to fame.

Nice and sweet as usual, you can sing along to each song as usual. Cheers!

The Beatles first truly great album; although I do like their '63 output too. Front to back classic, catchy pop songs. And this is just year two of seven. This and the rest of their albums made me fall in love with music; and how could it not. *Heard before.

i feel like you need to put on a loop of nonstop stadium screaming in the background to truly appreciate this. check out im happy just to dance with you, and i love her, things we said today; theyre nice deep cuts light 4

While not a Beatles fan, I appreciate their artistic abilities and their willingness to depart from the musical status quo at the time. The album is well done, and while void of the original pops and crackles of vinyl production at the time, it is faithful to the musical qualities that define the Beatles.

Lots of upbeat vibes from the overall tone of the music.

Certainly feels aged. Only knew a couple of these but a cohesive albums and feels very Beatles across the board

Great album, but far from the Beatles’ best. There are plenty of Beatles albums I’d rather listen to, but I think that says more about the Beatles discography being phenomenal rather than this album being bad, far from it.

My days of hating the Beatles are over. Not as good as their later stuff but I still enjoyed this record.

My favourite pre-Rubber Soul Beatles album

The songwriting and arrangements here are top knotch and one can see how they soon blossomed into full blown musical artists. Even with fairly basic song structures the album remains fresh throughout

Like a beetle. But they're musical so they're called the beatles. That's some clever stuff right there.

I was trying my best to forget the fact that The Beatles are probably the most popular band of all times when listening to this album, and I was even trying extra hard to be sceptical about it. I was surprised that I found it very good. It's probably not their best album, but it overall holds a very high bar and there are a few songs here that feels like some of Beatles most recognized ones like 'A Hard Day's Night', 'Can't Buy Me Love', 'And I Love Her' etc. Even though this was during the inception of rock music (the album cover even had 'Stereo!' written on it) I feel that it doesn't hold up to today's standards. One thing I notice quite clearly is that the singing is overshadowing almost everything else. Front and center is of course best practice for song, but in 'I Should Have Known Better' you can only hear the acoustic guitar's strumming, but not the chords it actually plays because the singing just overpowers it completely.

The opposite to a hard day's listen. Great album. I do not understand why the cover is 20 pictures of just one member of the band. Where's the rest? Expected Marc rating: 5

although this isnt revolver or abbey road its still loaded with hits. You cant not jam out with cant buy me love

It’s fine. The singles are really good, but the album tracks are very forgettable. I could be talked down into a 3, but I’ll give it a 4

first chord carries

a classic one

Pop rock Beatles is way less annoying than I thought they'd be. While lyrically simple it's fairly catchy and doesn't overstay it's welcome. Feels like one of the better albums from a legendary band. Wish there was a little bit more guitar solo playing from George Harrison. Overall really fun album from front to back.

Nostalgia 100%! Not their best best still love it. Some songs are perfect. Others are ok. But can’t help but give it a good score.

Pretty solid. I've never been much of a Beatles guy, but mostly because I've never really listened to them. This album still had a touch of the 50s rock sound that I'm not a big fan of, but it was still pretty good.

Très bien :)

Det var väl egentligen här allt rasade igång. Den helt klart bästa, förutom de "stora" kommande. En preliminär ranking skulle när jag skriver detta kunna se ut så här: 1. Abbey Road 2. Sgt. Pepper, 3. Revolver 4. The Beatles 5. Rubber Soul 6. A Hard Days Night. Skulle nog sätta en femma på topp 5, och bara för att det här är en 4 betyder inte det att den inte är ruskig viktig.

There's something about the Beatles, it makes me smile when I hear there hits. I don't really go out of my way to hear them, but I will never turn the station when they're on.

could i write poetry to it? y

Low-hanging fruit right there. The entire Beatles discography could easily end up on this list.

Come on it’s the Beatles. What’s not to love

Beatles’ first venture into an all original album is a musical landmark. You start to fully grasp what the partnership of Lennon/McCartney would become. Especially on songs such as the title track and the fabulous “Any Time At All”. A Hard Day’s Night is not the Beatles at their full potential yet. But it’s the Fab Four showing where they’re heading.

85/100

Definitely the strongest Pop showing from this version of the Beatles. The songwriting is strong, great instrumentals and lyrics. Not going to get too deep as I'm under qualified to review the Beatles, but it's a great album no surprise.

Enjoyed this classic. The group harmonizes wonderfully.

First Classic Beatles Record

Sehr gut.

Never been big on early era Beatles but there was plenty to enjoy here

En klassiker, catchy, melodisk, simpelt

I know the tracks but I'm less familiar with this than with some of the others. I tend to gravitate toward the psychedelic albums. Certainly no complaints w this one.

It's a pretty solid Beatles album! I've definitely heard all of these songs before, although there were only a couple that I am particularly familiar with. The Beatles are the biggest band of all time for a reason: their music is good! It did feel a little unoriginal style-wise, but I think that is more because other bands took inspiration from the Beatles, and less of the other way around.

It has "You Know"!! Started well and ended well!

ive been workin. like a dog

A Hard Day’s Night // If I Fell // I’m Happy Just To Dance With You // And I Love Her // Can’t Buy Me Love //

Not my favorite Beatles album, but still great.

Not the best Beatles' album, but quite good.

*Hard Day's Night* really won me over. Compared to a lot of their contemporaries and imitators, they'd done a really good job keeping the tempo up and the arrangements engaging

-another beatles album!!!!! very excited about it -a hard days night is literally one of their most iconic well known songs -what a GREAT way to start the album is with the title track -and i love her is SUCH a beautiful song i love it -this is such a good album. like early beatles is top tier -yeah john lennon sucks!!!!!!!! we can literally ignore him paul mccartney is a legend and so is george harrison and ringo starr -can’t buy me love is another ICONIC song, but not my favorite on this album -every song is genuinely really good -like. such a classic beatles album. it’s not possible for me to rate this lower than 4

Thanks to my dad, I know this album pretty well :) Still good though!

Still part of what I would call the Beatles' "safe" era, but does not mean the chemistry between them is any less or the music is any worse. Classic album

Ah classic Beatles. Catchy head boppin music and some heartbreak songs

I don't know why this was my first time listening all the way through because I like this best out of all the Beatle's albums I've heard so far. And that says a lot because I've listened to Abbey Road on vinyl (although true, please take it with a grain of irony and a dash of sarcastic pride).

B+ A Hard Day's Night 4 I Should Have Known Better 5 If I Fell 3 I'm Happy Just to Dance with You 5 And I Love Her 4 Tell Me Why 3 Can't Buy Me Love 3 Any Time at All 4 I'll Cry Instead 3 Things We Said Today 5 When I Get Home 3 You Can't Do That 3 I'll Be Back 5 It was so enjoyable to dissect an album I know so well. Forcing myself to rate every song helped me realize how much I like it. I usually lump this in with other pre-Rubber Soul Beatles, but it stands alone as the first completely original album by them.

Didn't think I liked the Beatles but this was great

It’s catchy, fun love songs. It’s the Beatles

It would take most good bands a whole career to write this many solid songs. The Beatles did it on a Soundtrack.

It's the Beatles man. Nothing not to like. The Lennon tracks are distinctly Lennon and the one Harrison track is a bop. Can't not like it.

classic beatlers

Ahh the days of young love! Refreshing songs with innocent overtones!

No con la misma cantidad de canciones conocidas como otro álbum, sigue teniendo un nivel más que alto. Estilo confundible y canciones míticas para un pop tranquilo y pegadizo

1001 Beatles albums to listen to before you die. The guttural yells from John and Paul is enough for even a grown man to feel something. Good luck to any teenage girl hearing this in the 60s, no wonder their live albums are just high-pitched scream tracks. This album is pop perfection. They write and belted love song after love song, and quite well!

It's like flipping through the radio stations in the 50s and 60s and hearing a mix of all the kinds of songs from that Era.

A classic of the pre-Rubber Soul era.

not fully my music vibe but i like it!!

The Beatles are starting to figure out their own writing and while a good album, I know what comes later and prefer it more musically. But there are some fun moments in this album.

First half is perfect, second have is just good

C'est les Beatles, donc forcément c'est pas nul. Mais quand même, on reste encore un peu trop dans la période "musique pour midinettes" pour aller jusqu'au 5/5. Déso pas déso.

No skip album - Top faves: A hard days night And i love her Can’t buy me love Any time at all Things we said today You can’t do that

I figured we were going to get to the iconic hemisphere of music that is: The Beatles. So this is when I try the hardest to look at things in a MOSTLY objective lens..... (I'm only human) I've never been a major fan of 60s pop because it all starts to blend into each other in my head and I get things crossed. To fully give myself a good listening experience I decided to listen to the album then watch the movie experience that it stems from. I'll have to admit that after a first listen I have to give them credit that it didn't come off as stale. I could tell there was alot of effort made....especially since it was all original material. Honestly that's pretty impressive to say the least and I didn't immediately hate it. Sure, they begin to spark things as they got more comfortable reaching the peak of their musicianship, but you gotta give them credit for being some of the originators. So it's good, not great, but I can HEAR the potential.

greato

For me this was a solid intro to 60's pop music. Not the hugest Beatles fan, but this definitely had a couple bops. Probably will check out the movie at some point. Excited to see the development of their sound in later albums.

As a Beatles fan I like all the albums but this one is not at the same level as say Sgt Peppers or Rubber Soul to me. I'm glad that they met Dylan around this time frame and got their minds expanded as you can hear the beginnings of that. Maybe rating this against what would come later makes no sense but whatever it's way better than all that 80s/90s Britpop on the list that wouldn't exist without this.

It's the Beatles. It's good.

Only four stars because the album doesn't reach the heights of other Beatles albums. Still better than any other artists of the time though.

T1 - Excellent T2 - Good T3 - Good T4 - Good T5 - V. Good T6 - V Good T7 - Excellent T8 - Good T9 - Good T10 - Good T11 - P Good T12 - P Good T13 - Good

This is some good classic Beatles. Can hear bits of the old and a hint of what was to come.

The first Beatles album comprised only of original material is catchy as hell. Lennon and McCartney might have a future in song writing. Highlights: A Hard Day's Night Can't Buy Me Love I Should Have Known Better Any Time at All

The beatles being the beatles

Can’t buy me love

Hard days night An album of well crafted catchy 60’s pop songs. I love their voices and harmonies. Some are more memorable than others. Cool harmonies on “If I fell” Some songs I never heard like “I’m happy to dance with you”. “And I love her” is a great song. I definitely prefer their later more experimental stuff like sgt pepper and Abby road. “Anytime I’ll call” is a cool song I feel like it could be any other band’s biggest hit. You can’t do that- so much cowbell! “I’ll be back”cool last song Tough one to rate- 4 I guess.

This is the most cohesive Beatles album we have listened to. Cant Buy Me Love and Anytime At All is my favorite.

Can't go wrong with the Beatles. Every song on this album is great.

Lots of great songs, but not one of their best albums.

beagle

Fantastic early offering of one of the most popular bands in history. An album, admittedly, I had only heard the singles off of up until this point. Enjoyable, a true testament of their talent and work ethic.

What's not to like?

Nice album! Has some songs I was less familiar with, but I enjoyed it. Especially the very first chord.

Great album but prefer some other Beatles albums , high 4

Very high 4. Amazing album but in the grand scheme of Beatles there is stuff which is better as an album.

early beatles is always a fun time. maybe not a sophisticated time, but definitely a fun one.

Klart som fan att det är bra, men det är fortfarande en bra bit till The white album.

Nothing wrong with this album from The Beatles as it's well crafted like a lot of their work, though it's mid compared to Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Abbey Road. As such, I can't justify a higher rating because even though I like The Beatles, I'm not a fanatic like a huge portion of the music press seem to be. Low 4 star

Took us 3 tries but me and the generator found a Beatles album I like.

My personal favorite of the early records. Side A of this record is just one amazing song after another. Side B has a few forgettable (by Beatles standards) tracks but my recommendation for new fans to start with wanting to hear early Beatles music.

Some iconic songs. The filler tracks are ok, but the classics off this album carry it

It’s a 4.5 but I can’t vote half stars!!! Some of my favorite Beatles songs on here!

Fascinating listening to what could be described as the last of the 'Mop top' albums. This is still the unmistakeable sound of the early 60s Beatles, but there are signs of their sound evolving, particularly on the title track and Things We Said Today. A good album but lacking the brilliance of the albums to come

Excellent, witty, energetic fun album. John very much at the centre which I personally like, and lots of little buzzy gems from 60s British rock n roll. The film released with the album is one of the best films made and is gloriously, wonderfully stupid. Very into this

Every song has the word Love in it. Amazing album though.

One of the best references to classic Beatles. Joyful and influential. Not a Revolver or Abby Road, but with enough merit to cause a pop revolution. 4/5

A lot of good energy and new-to-me Beatles songs here!

The first chord has been one of the most discussed chords in music. The harmonies are nice. Great album but there are better Beatles records.

Not my favorite Beatles style, but a pretty perfect example of that style

Вообще недурственно!

Album wasn’t bad. I’m not usually a Beatles fan but I genuinely enjoy quite a few songs on there.

I can't believe we've listened to this many albums before our first Beatles one. They really were pioneers.

don't think it's one of the best Beatles albums but still incredible album, some songs were a little too short and sweet but overall the consistency of high quality music and fun songs really makes this one a must listen

1 = Turned it off, couldn't handle it anymore 2 = Listened to it fully, but I didn't really like it 3 = Ok I guess? 1 or 2 interesting songs, but that's it 4 = Multiple good songs / I would listen to the album again sometimes 5 = I will listen to this on repeat for the foreseeable future + Can't buy me love + Any time at all 4/5 I like their songs enough that I wouldn't mind playing it in the background again, but I was sick of love songs at the end of the album.

This whole album is full of real nice, catchy songs, all just brilliantly crafted.

Early Beatles is great to hear from time to time. I prefer the later records, but this one is amazing. Some classics, and then some just okay stuff.

Very good early Beatles album! Some all-time classic pop songs, but still before the band's more interesting and memorable work.

my favourite band of all time, I believe that hard days night is certainly one of their strongest earlier rock and roll albums. The first side is incredible - hit after hit, but the second side does feel a little less strong.

è bello, molto bello.

Short and sweet classic beatles

While I would say that I am a big Beatles fan, I would say I am a fan of post-Rubber Soul era Beatles. I haven't ever gotten into the early Beatles, aside from a few songs, so I was actually quite interested when I got this album as I had never listened to it. I will say this about it: it is very of its time. This sounds like pop from the 1960s and it's not necessarily bad but I'd rather be listening to an album like Revolver or Abbey Road compared to this. That being said, A Hard Day's Night (the song) is a pretty good opener. It has a garage rock quality to it and it is my personal favorite song on the record. The opener chord/note/whatever the hell the band is doing there is certainly iconic, although I will say I had listened to this track beforehand so I already knew what to expect. For songs I hadn't listened to, And I Love Her is a standout as it is the only song to slow it down a bit (well, to the extent that it is slowed down here) and it's pretty good. The lyrics are alright, and the guitar riff is really good and fits the track well, it's a fantastic song. Things We Said Today is also a really good song. The melancholic guitar tones paired with the ominous feeling lyrics and vocal delivery make this a kind of chilling song to listen to in all honesty. Probably the best song on the back half of the record. I'll Be Back is a pretty good closer. The guitar tones are pretty similar to Things We Said Today, which may be the reason why I like it, and the lyrics are fine, I think I just prefer Things We Said Today. However, all of the other songs feel kind of similar to each other. Everything about them from the performances, lyrics, and production, it all just feels very similar. Now, none of them are bad per se, but they don't stand out and are just kind of there. While I did enjoy this record, I will say it wasn't perfect and there are parts that are way better than others and it all pales in comparison to the Beatles later stuff. I'd say a 7/10 is in order for this album.

A classic, as all Beatles records are. There are a few duds on here, but there are also some amazing tracks as well. A fun listen.

culmination of early beatles

Such great vocal harmonies

classic

PREFS : A Hard Day's Night, I Should Have Known Better, If I Fell, I'm Happy Just To Dance With You, And I Love Her, Tell Me Why, Can't Buy Me Love, Any Time At All, I'll Cry Instead, Things We Said Today MOINS PREF : You Can't Do That

I've never gone particularly deep on The Beatles, and this is one of the albums I haven't spent time with before. Just listened to this straight through 3 times and wasn't at all mad about it. Such a very different band over the course of their career, but this is fantastic straight-cut rock and roll from their early days. They tap into solid song writing and stretch it into a few different styles, exhibiting their ballad harmonization (If I Fell) as well as ability to write upbeat dance tracks (Can't Buy me Love, I'm Happy Just To Dance With You) and tap into more "bluesy" rock (Any Time At All, You Can't Do That). The hits here are great; what didn't make the radio is equally enjoyable. Very solid 4 / 5

Ganz cool, aber biz repetitiv

Can’t really argue with the quality of the songs here

Familiarity bias although I'm not sure I've ever listened to this much as piece of work just apparently know all the words. Docking a point for creepy possessive lyrics in the last 2 tracks though.

had a fun time exploring more of the beatles. Great album!

• I was pleasantly surprised by this album and ended up quite enjoying it • There was quite a lot of variation in the style of songs and I found that I really liked their slower tracks • I would absolutely listen to this one again • Favourite song: And I Love Her

Beatles are pretty good

Always gold.

note: this review is of the u.k. lp release. ah, the beatles. the masters of the sub 3 minute pop song. catchy songs with infectious sing-along choruses. you can definitely tell the difference between a john lennon song, which tend to be a little darker, and the other songs which tend to be a little more positive. highlights: “i should have known better”, “i’m happy just to dance with you”, “and i love her”.

Early Beatles goodness.

Really good album, definitely a classic but the Beatles sonorites are quite unique to them. Definitely some good songs in there. Favorite Tracks : Things We Said Today, I'm happy just to dance with you, Tell me why Rating : 4 / 5

Great love letter with classic Beatles style. There nothing bad to it but on first listening I was left with something missing. The energy is very nice and if you like that theme it is really nice. 3.5/5 leaning on a good 4

Very fun album, great songs, better than the last Beatles album.

That opening chord is such a fabulous mission statement for all out, cheery pop-rock n roll - and the album carries it off. A solid album of b-list Beatles tracks with one of my all time favourites, And I Love Her, landed straight in the middle.

trowbekkie naar vroeger op vakantie in de auto. leuk heerlijk

Classic Beatles.

Boy band music

I surprised myself by not really knowing many of the songs here. You assume that The Beatles back catalogue is immersed into your brain. But no - there are some lost gems on here that gave me a little more interest once again. Tell Me Why sounded like a new song for me. It's a fun album, something that tailored off with The Beatles output that followed.

This is a really good album and but I tend to prefer the Beatles when they were out of their 2:30 minute semi-boy band phase when they lacked any sort of edge. This album deserves to be on the list.

4.5/5 So many good songs and so many hits, in just 30 mins. No wonder people went crazy over them. It's very poppy, but that's what makes it so fun. I love singing almost every single song. The chords and melodies are beautiful. Well written and performed. Just really good.

Oh dear god I enjoyed this. Short and snappy songs and well performed. We're still a while from calling me a convert but I'm listening...

A 4.5 for sure, this was the last of the Beatles really young pop albums. Some great hits

- The Beatles are so good you can tell this is a lot better than other 60s rock we've heard, and it's not even peak Beatles - Great vibes, and a very easy and enjoyable listen - 3.5 but rounding up cuz it's the Beatles

Classic Beatles with some of their best songs, and where they had really perfected the Beatlemania formula. Who else had come up with movies based on albums at this point? Things We Said Today is a super underrated Beatles song.

Not my favorite Beatles album but still so good. I'm listening to more Beatles now

Enjoyable

You know it's good because John, Paul, George, and Ringo made it.

A Hard Day's Night is the third album by the English rock band the Beatles. This album was predominantly more pop than their previous rock and roll songs, and was also their first album to feature entirely new compositions written by Lennon or McCartney. This may have been a result of side one on the album being tracks from their film soundtrack of the same name, while side two were other tracks for the film that weren't used. A Hard Day's Night was the band's most popular album so far at release. I thoroughly enjoyed this Beatles album and it might be one of my favorites. Some of their other albums released later on are better, but I do like that this album features all new musical work from the band instead of rock covers. In the past I thought the Beatles were overrated, but they continue to surprise me when I actually sit down and listen to their albums.

Like most Beatles albums, really great. "Can't Buy Me Love" is probably my favorite (and I'd also say the most known song on the album, too). It's interesting... you really don't appreciate how great The Beatles were until you've listened to a ton of different albums from this era. And thanks to this 1001 list (575 albums in at the time of writing), I've listened to stuff from the 60s that (somehow) made it to the list and it's often utter crap when compared to how prolific these guys were. 8/10.

Nunca fui ni seré fan pero son la mejor banda del mundo entero por siempre jamás.

I had forgotten just how good the early 1960s were for the Beatles. This, the fab fours third album has enough good songs the elevate the great songs to legendary. Highlights galore on this one!

A collection of great pop tunes that I used to listen to every day in my mom’s car growing up. There are a few stinkers in it though towards the end of the album, so it’s not perfect.

I thought this was pretty good. Probably not my favourite of the ones I've heard on the list so far, but it was catchy and well written, and made for a good companion on a sunny evening drive home. Favourite: A Hard Day's Night

It's the Beatles. Although, I never listened to this entire album on its own (because I am not a fan of the early stuff). 4 stars. Mostly because it's the Beatles.

det är ju inte deras bästa men ändå bra.

begonnen met "beatles zijn overrated", nu toch wel een heel sterk album!

I've heard most of these songs countless times growing up. Most hold up really well, but some of these songs are or weirdly possessive or needy. Like, "Dude, get over her already. She gave you her answer. Move on."

Favourite song: A Hard Day's Night

The Beatles hitting their stride

Latere beatles zijn wel beter, maar wel goede korte nummers. Leuk dat je al een beetje de evolutie hier kan zien ten opzichte van het vorige album

I've always thought the Beatles were overrated, but I have to admit, I enjoyed this one.

Works perfectly on its own terms. Whether the opening note as wake-up call, call to arms or clarion call, it still resonates as a profound statement of the new. The songs are sharp and tight and polished – state-of-the-art and top-of-the-market pop music circa ‘64, a group working at the height of its power, just before significantly expanding its field of play and launch into a new artistic orbit. Fun to think about the film’s role in the intersection of commodity pop (and its commercial significance) and musical/aesthetic ambition. This seems the fulcrum of what was and the possibilities that would soon begin to be realized.

Those harmonies on "If I fell"! Still a super-poppy album, but you can hear the maturity coming along. We're a ways off Sgt. Pepper, but it's clear to see how we'll get there. Funny listening to this album from start to finish and just "knowing" all of the songs, even though I am *sure* I've never sat and listened to this album from start to finish.

Classic Beatles. A bit to doo wop for me.

The Beatles are artist #61 currently on my last.fm but, if i can believe the stats, i somehow skipped over listening to this record!? Not my favourite work by the band but still solid

It’s good, it’s The Beatles. But I know they can do better.

I think this is the first Beatles album I've listened to front-to-back. The production and mixing is incredible for 1964. No crackles, clean guitar tones that cut through clearly, bass is never muddy, drums don't bleed cymbal sounds, perfect vocals. Musicianship is fine, it's 30 minutes of 2 minute pop songs. The vocals are remarkable though. They do harmony so well. Favorite track has to be the title track. Least favorite was probably I'll Cry Instead.

8/10 early Beatles is fun, and clearly they show their talent in songwriting early on it definitely stands out from the typical brit-pop of the era but still, it’s just brit-pop great, but difficult to refer to as a 10/10 album

Cool Beatles album. Nothing amazing though

Given that this is a de facto soundtrack to a cash-in teen flick, it's REMARKABLE how solid it is.

I own a copy of this album. I don't regularly revisit A Hard Day's Night. The album is a good experience to listen to the Beatles' early work. I am not eager to get back to every track, but there aren't any tracks that I want to skip. The title track and "Can't Buy Me Love" might be required listening for an understanding of the Beatles' work.

I enjoyed very much - I do love the Beatles. Although you do realise just how boring the subject topic of love is when you have album after album of it. Help! is my favourite album I think. So I listened to that straight after.

close but not perfect

The Beatles at their original pop sensation stage put out a hard days night and a movie to go with it to take over the world. John and Paul do a great job on this album making some incredibly catchy songs that are fun to repeat over and over. A reason people call the Beatles the best is because they have written so many good songs on every album that some bands only do a few times every few years. The early albums weren’t as deep as others but was still a force of culture sensation and splendid to listen to. 8.4/10

4. Some classic tracks and very much the leading innovators at the time.

Ágætis plata. Ekki þeirra besta samt.

Sprinkled with classics. Captures the magic of the Beatles. Noting it's one of three of their albums where there are no George Harrison written songs, as well as no covers.
