Banger by a Legend? Check. Even if it didn't have my favorite Stevie tunes on it, it would still be solid. But Superstition alone is worth 2 stars. 100/5

classic

Classic. Absolute GOAT album from Stevie only surpassed by SKL

Mr Wonder is aptly named. I'm on record referring to him a musical spirit that has taken human form and blessed us with the purest musical gifts known to man. This album does nothing to contradict that. This is Romantic Wonder and i'm here for it. I played it for my wife and got laid. Maybe a bit 80's and wobbly towards the end (the album, not my perfomance).

A rare no skip album with some absolute bangers on it. I mean you are the sunshine of my life, superstition, you and i - amazing.

Smooth, beautiful, masterclass playing

stevie wonder is amasing... very groivy and happy songs

no notes perfect job stevie

Reminded me that Stevie Wonder is one of the greatest musicians to ever do it

I can see why some find it sickly sweet but when it’s good, it’s incredible. Updated to a 5 after I Believe. Fav tracks: Superstition, Blame it on the Sun, I Believe. RYM: Y (#584) Saved a song: Y

First track started out as very psychodelic, but over the course of the album, it became soulful and funky. I kinda like the vibes of the album, very solid.

That book was talkin and I was listenin

He's just the best

Stevie Wonder can do no wrong. This ticks all the boxes for me, from lyrics to the instrumentation it all just clicks in place. Obviously 'Superstition' was huge for a reason, but all of this is just so catchy and full of life. I just love the funk and the guitar throughout, and Stevies vocals are on par as usual. I actually got chills at points from how good it was. I see people complaining about the lyrics, I can't say I share that issue. Everything about this album works so well for me, a truly great album. Fav Track: You and I

A real treat for a Monday morning, a great album. Favourite track: Superstition

A great album that I've only just gotten to know and enjoy in its entirety. 5/5

So good and just feels influential. Both modern and classic

One of the finest platforms for the clavinet outside of reggae and a showcase for the genius of Stevie Wonder and his deep bag of tricks. Soulful, funky, smooth, great.

Loving this groovy, feel-good album

We moved to Jacksonville in June 1972, and this came out late October 1972, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't very long before Mombo bought this album (and, as I mentioned when I reviewed "Innervisions," Mombo purchased Stevie's subsequent mid-70s albums, as well, culminating in "Songs in the Key of Life"). So, these albums were a key part of my 70s musical experience. I'm not sure if this one is quite as strong as Innervisions and Songs, but it's definitely at least close - and it's still a 5 for me. Wikipedia appears to confirm my recollection/understanding that on this album (and "Music of My Mind," which came out earlier in 1972), Stevie Wonder helped to pioneer the use of synthesizers (and in awesome, funky ways) in popular music. Just as with "Innervisions," the hits songs (here, "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" and "Superstition" -- the opening tracks of sides 1 and 2, respectively) suffer a little from over-exposure over the years, but, of course, are still great songs. Of the other 8 tracks, the only one that (to me) seems a little weak is probably "Tuesday Heartbreak." The other 7 tracks are (to me) excellent, and have a little added personal luster, because I know them (or, anyway, got to know them) not through the radio, but through growing up with this album. 5 stars.

Earthy

311/1089 3rd stevie wonder album in about a month or so and i’m absolutely NOT complaining It’s great, as expected, Superstition is just TOO good. I think i like the 3 albums fairly equally but this one might *just* be my fave as a whole his voice transports me, he truly could sing the alphabet and i’d think it was magical faves: superstition, i believe, tuesday heartbreak 88/100

Fantastic.

Stevie Wonder is just an amazing singer, and the instrumentation is truly next level here. This is an amazing album with not only iconic hit singles but also deep deep cuts. I love it I want this for the shelf Big brother and youve got it bad it all works so well. I find myself loving every track so I will ambitiously give the GOAT his flowers.

9/10, fantastic, some of my favorite soul/r&b songs

Stevie wonder is legend!! I will always look fondly upon the song Superstition and You Are The Sunshine Of My Life as that was the first Stevie Wonder song I heard. I also think fondly of his appearance on Soul Train!

I think Stevie Wonder is amazing, and I consider *Talking Book* to be his strongest album. He may have had bigger hits, but for me, “Superstition” is his best song (just that main riff alone), while “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “I Believe” come pretty close. What else is there to say? It’s a clear 5-star album.

I get intimidated listening to stevie wonder, his music is too good for my ears. talking book is incredible. right through, it’s a great experience. you and I & tuesday heartbreak are some of my favourites now.

Classic and yet still incredibly

КАЧАЕТ!

It's no Songs in the Key of Life or Innervisions, but it's still a great album. No stinkers on here, but beside Superstition and You and I (to a certain extent), it misses the X-factor that other Stevie songs have had.

I hecking love Stevie

always

Pretty iconic!

Pretty good.

It’s Stevie … it’s 5 stars

It's easy to forget how brilliant Stevie Wonder is. This record is a great example. Just the production alone sounds like it was made with today's digital tech and not early 70s analog.

Just a great consistent sound

This is a masterpiece.

me gusto mucho hay que escuchar mas stevie wonder porfa, el ultimo tema 10/10

just wow, not like best 5/5 but for sure worth it

An excellent album

Yeah ofc

Guy can write a melody. All that gorgeousness and Superstition to boot.

Loveeee Stevie. I like songs in the key of life slightly more, but Talking Book is still a phenomenal album. 9/10

I was so happy to see this album yesterday! Favourite track is of course 'you are the sunshine of my life'. ☀️ Love the pacing of the album, the rhodes keyboard, and obviously stevie wonder's sunny singing.

I think Stevie Wonder literally has no album duds. Tracks to Track: You are the Sunshine of My Life, Superstition, I Believe

So good. Nobody does it like Stevie. The beginning of his generational album run and more mature than what came before.

i don't know if i'll consider this a 5-star album. innervisions? yes. songs? yes. fulfillingness? yes. talking book will be at least 4 stars, no question. ok, just looking at the songlist before bed. yeah, prolly a 5-star album. yep. perfect

Very very good. Maybe your baby great track

Stevie Fricking Wonder

Mesmerizing, gorgeous.

This is as good a time as any to introduce my Stevie Wonder Rule. For every possible human emotional state, there is a Stevie Wonder song that will make you feel a little bit better. That includes everything from your lowest lows to your highest highs. Part of my case for this would include three songs on this album. I first conceived the rule when my father-in-law told me how he fell in love with “Superstition.” He was a young man in Franco’s Spain doing work that was boring, difficult, and somewhat dangerous even in the last days of the regime. He loved Spain but was homesick all the time. But one day in El Corte Inglés (sort of Spain’s Selfridge’s) he heard “Superstition” and he knew everything would be okay. And I used “You are the Sunshine of My Life” and “I Believe” as part of the video to family we sent to our family announcing we were having a son because I couldn’t find any other songs that would express the way I felt. I’m sure many other people have data points that fit the theory! Anyway I’m running out of steam for tonight but this can’t be anything but a five for me. I love the other songs but it’s really those three sonic monuments are what does it.’

Stevie Wonder is amazing. I think I like Songs In The Key Of Life better than Talking Book, but this album is a classic too.

Fave songs: • You are the sunshine of my life • You and I • Superstition 10/10 any day - banger after banger

It is still just an absolute pleasure.

Funky album I like it even better than songs to the key of life and that was 5 stars

sehr beruhigend, sehr schön, wow. wirklich 5/5

Wobbles between softer prog rock Stevie and funky as all hell Stevie. Its a bit dated in some respects but i think i give it 5 stars because of notinly Supersrition being a fucking amazing balls to the wall song but the fact that Stevie plays pretty much everything on here. Dude is a beast!

Me gustó, muy lindas canciones

its fuckin stevie wonder dude. like, of course its great. what can i even say that hasn't already been said? theres not a single bad song to be found here. i love the soaking wet moog bass on "maybe your baby", and obviously "superstitious" fucks, but "i believe (when i fall in love it will be forever)" might be my favourite. it hits deep down inside so hard the hook had me tryin to sing along on my first listen even tho i didn't know the words yet. can u believe he plays every single part on this track himself? incredible..... as a whole album, one thing that stands out to me about it is how clean the production sounds. along with the constant use of electric pianos and synths, it makes the album feel both ahead of its time, but also timeless. like this album could've dropped any time in the last 45 years, but somehow it's even older than that. do u understand? a solid as fuck album, as expected. damn. i love music....

This album is like opening a window for the first time in spring and feeling the unfiltered sun on your skin as you breathe fresh air for the first time in months.

Way back in the 70s my dad bought home a music centre with three cassettes, including a ‘Stereo Spectacular’ compilation and two Stevie Wonder albums. We played this one first and I still remember those funky notes blasting out of the speakers with smooth perfection. After twenty minutes or so, we flipped to the B side and I heard Superstition for the first time - wow! This is generally acknowledged to be the first album of Wonder’s classic period and it was the time that he started experimenting with early synthesisers, succeeding in making them an organic part of the music instead of the novelty bleeps and bloops of some other contemporary examples. They still sound fantastic today - a true classic.

Delicious

A revolutionary sonic achievement that redefined the possibilities of studio production. Wonder’s masterful integration of the TONTO synthesizer system creates a "warm yet acidic" electronic texture that feels alive and organic. The album is a technical triumph of frequency management, where deep synth basses coexist perfectly with sharp Clavinet riffs and complex rhythmic layers, setting the definitive standard for modern funk and soul.

I could (and have) listened to these 70s-era Stevie albums over and over. The classic tunes will live forever and the lesser-known songs carry the vibe.

Every human should hear this record and if they don’t it should be played at their funeral.

Stevie Wonder created so many of the sounds and textures of pop and soul music from the 70s through today. Where would music be without Superstition and You've Got It Bad Girl? This is one of his string of early-70s albums on which he grew, stretched, explored, and elevated the music of the time. Listen to the sound of a genius at work.

Luckily I had time to go back and do a partial second listen because songs I thought I didn't like at first sounded a lot better at home the second time. Obviously I knew superstition but the other tracks balanced a funky and smooth vibe that grew on me.

This album could just be the first minute of Superstition and it would still be an easy five stars.

Really nice album! Some songs like big brother sounded very non stevie wonder like (for someone who knows mostly you are the sunshine of my life of him^^) but very enoyable

I loved it. So classic. Transported me to a different time. There was a song(track 3?) that sounded like the superstition bass like bit slowed down and they took away the drums. It was very funky. Would highly recommend.

was genuinely moved to tears by you and i

Stevie Wonder is one of the best artists of the 70s ever.

Nothing short of amazing a 22 year old blind fella write this whole album and fill it with classic songs and even play the drums in the recording. Come one. The arrangements and musicians are fantastic and the former child prodigy Little Stevie has complete freedom to express himself the way he wanted. The lyrics are sappy, I know, but nothing different from what one would expect from a 22 year old in the 70s.

Excellent in all means.

Eternal….

Classic, still wonderful

This guy has one of the greatest albums of all time

"Don't worry about a thing/ 'Cause every little thing gonna be alright" Variety: 4 Adequacy: 5 Listenability: 5 Uniqueness: 5 Emotionality: 5 = 4.8 rounded up to a 5 We finally made it! Not to make any promises before listening ( it has been a while after all), but I'm pretty confident this will be a guaranteed 5 star for me. This one is absolutely loaded with great songs, and not a dud among them. Heard a lot of this as a kid on terrestrial radio, but wasn't til maybe my 20s (?) that I gave the album a full listen to all the way through. When I got rid of most of my LPs a few years ago Stevie's bunch of albums were among the last to go, and I had to reconsider more than once. Really looking forward to this one. THE TRACKS Side one "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" - What an opener. As joyful a song as any I can think of and it transcends any sort of sappiness with the killer instrumentation. Not even the Minutemaid Orange Juice commercials I remember as I kid could kill this song's greatness. "Maybe Your Baby" - Damn... The funk coming off this one is powerful. That synth organ that sounds almost like it's underwater, and when the female vocals drop in, the song hits another level. It even peters out with style. "You and I (We Can Conquer the World)" - There is not much media that effects me emotionally. This is one of them ( not the last one either from Mr. Wonder, or even the last one from this album ). What a deceptively simple song. Wonder goes less is better on this one, and pulls off the trick of getting your full attention after the musical display of those first two tracks. And despite the positive lyrics, the music itself has a somber, thoughtful quality. "Tuesday Heartbreak" - Even his throwaway tracks would be the best song on anyone else's album. A quality he shares with a very few elite ( future collaborator Paul McCartney comes to mind). Four love songs in a row and this doesn't feel stale at all. "You've Got It Bad Girl" - The ascending and descending vocal hooks on this one remain a pleasure. Stevie gets a lottle more serious on this one, and we end side one with a damn fine closer, that prepares us for the less lovery dovey side two. Side two "Superstition" - Man. A contender for a place in the top 10 songs of the 20th century in my opinion. Every part of this song is gold, but the horns are key for me. I could listen to this one on repeat for an hour and no get bored. "Big Brother" - Stevie gets political here and loses nothing in the musicality. The almost plaintive sounding harmonica (?) almost serves as a counter vocal. My favorite percussion on the album. And those lyrics still hit hard - "I don't even have to do nothin' to you /You'll cause your own country to fall". Damn... "Blame It on the Sun" - Can we even call this a deep cut? Does this album have any? "Lookin' for Another Pure Love" - Has there ever been a more chill breakup song? "I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)" - This one gets me to. When those drums kick in the clouds open up and the sunlight shines down. Even if just briefly. Hope How many times has this been covered. I'm betting a lot. Another stone cold classic, and an all time great album closer. HIGHLIGHTS - All of it LOWLIGHTS - None of it FINAL THOUGHTS One of the hardest thing for any of these albums to overcome is how difficult it is to sound unique in any way. To stand out even among all the amazing music from this decade is no small feat and no one - NO ONE - sounded like Wonder. I can only imagine what this must have been like to hear at the time on the radio, especially for people more familiar with his earlier stuff. Also going to guess that this guy should have gotten a piece of the action on all the synth sales that were no doubt driven by musicians hearing this and wanting to copy its sound. Without this stuff do we get all the amazing P-Funk stuff later on? PLAYLIST ALTERATIONS - None

You Are the Sunshine of My Life - 4.5/5 Maybe Your Baby - 3.5/5 You and I - 4/5 Tuesday Heartbreak - 4/5 You've Got It Bad Girl - 4/5 Superstition - 5/5 Big Brother - 4.5/5 Blame It on the Sun - 4.5/5 Lookin' for Another Pure Love - 4.5/5 I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever) - 4.5/5 I hadn't listened to Stevie Wonder outside of the occasional hits, but digging into this first album (which isn't even the best one he put out!) made me appreciate him all the more. Superstition is an all-timer for sure, but the whole B side essentially roped me in to giving this a 5. Looking forward to his other albums if this one is this good. Overall: 5/5 Favorites: Superstition, Blame It on the Sun, Lookin' for Another Pure Love, I Believe

Great album loved it,

So many great tunes and chord progressions.

fav track - blame it on the sun 95/100

I am very happy to have been treated to two Stevie Wonder albums this week. I love this one for funky jams like Maybe Your Baby and classic single Superstition, and finishing with one of the best closing tracks of all time. There’s a beautiful tenderness here. I would add a lot of this album to various wedding playlists.

You‘re the Sunshine of my life and superstition, to of the best Songs ever, One the Same Album. This is great music, a great album.

il a trouvé le livre du groove et est tombé dedans tout petit.

Incredible album from a master of the genre. Silky smooth vocals as always, but what really set this one apart for me was the instrumentation. I’ve loved every Stevie album on this list so far, but the creativity and variety on this one was truly special. Easy 5.

10/10 – Masterpiece

Fantastic, timeless album; one of my favorites. So many good songs esp "You and I", "Blame it on the Sun" and "I Believe"

My god, what a piece

Any album with superstition on it gets 5 stars from me... he could have surrounded it with a tonal spoken word and that song would still deserve it. Stevie seems pretty blissed out on this album. The production sounds open and welcoming. So 5 stars no debate. But imagine if he'd bashed out superstition, higher ground and masterblaster all on the sane album? That would be ten stars

Amazing songs from front to back

STEVIE YOU NEVER MISSSSSSS. no notes. could never pick a favourite track. they're all so perfect. what an amazing sense of rise and fall in terms of mood throughout the whole album. brought the vibe down at the perfect times and never kept anything going on for more than just the right amount of time. what a stunner.

today is a good day when i'm listening to stevie, his funky songwriting always makes me feel good when i'm not feeling the best. this album is probably one of wonder's most popular when it comes to his most defining musical period of his life. whenever you're feeling frisky, feeling tired, feeling introspective... no matter what the mood is, just turning on this record can lift your spirits in minutes. there's something about his sometimes jaunty, sometimes quiet... always mesmerizing songs i adore.

Why do i need to write

A very unique album. Definitely going into my playlist!

A great mix of funk and ballads. Worth listening on repeat for a wonderful 45 minute adventure.

Really liked most

Dee, soulful lyrics over funky synth from out of this world. Stevie makes you feel all the emotions on this one.

This is just so good. 2 classics on here, but the other tracks are just as good. Some are very beautiful, others are more funky. Will be coming back to listen to this one again.

incredible. no notes. 4.5/5 +/-

genius

Incredibly well produced, absolutely fantastic album!

Maybe your baby is like something that would be played by an alien band in star wars in the best way possible

absolutely adored this album, from the music to the vocals it's just an overall captivating experience

my introduction to stevie wonder (ik ik, crazy) very thankful for this rec, loved it a lot!!!!!!!! if i could i'd give it 6 stars :))))

I loved this one. Instantly recognisable as Stevie, with some I recognised and others I didn’t but loved! Perfect mix of upbeat, groovy and slower songs. I can imagine playing this on a record player whilst cooking on a Sunday.

Stevie has such a unique relationship to melody, harmonies, groove. It feels like a gift to witness.

There's the hits on this record, and then there's the rest of the tunes that are as beautiful and impactful as anything of the era. A triumph of R&B and pop music.

First time listening to Stevie Wonder and I'm fascinated. As a fun of Pink Floyd, jazz vibes coincide with my soul. 5/5.

Magnficient - I want more of those funky keyboards.

Another album from Stevie’s peak years. Honestly I’m a key of life Stan but this album is insanely good. Maybe even the best of the batch. Wonder’s vocal delivery is incredible, the songs are incredibly tight and we have this stretch’s strongest singles in I Believe and Superstitious. The first side is like a soulful alien gospel party, the second side is rocky power ballads. This album has an amazing rhythm section, it sounds like congas and some bass (I first thought it was a Chapman stick but it’s too early for that, maybe some keyboards) that sometimes go on these crazy tangents that somehow still support the song. This album is so incredible and doesn’t stop, something like Jeff Beck playing out of his mind on Looking For Another Pure Love is just par for the course. Anyway five stars top ten album of all time.

Stevie Wonder is a genius

Highlights: You Are the Sunshine of My Life, Maybe Your Baby, Tuesday Heartbreak, Superstition, Lookin' For Another Pure Love, I Believe Gem alert! Gem alert! Perfect record worth revisiting a billion times over. Had this on my personal favourites list for a while. The record was made back when Stevie was freshly divorced and I feel like that's what gave him the bad energy to make such grumpy songs like Maybe Your Baby and Tuesday Heartbreak (but he was even more sour on the previous record!). I read once a long time ago how he intentionally put You Are the Sunshine of My Life in front of Maybe Your Baby just to point out the duality of a relationship. On the beginning of Maybe Your Baby there is a bang, so that's like a metaphor for the point where the honeymoon (the sunshine) phase ends and a more cynical view of the relationship begins to take over. The first song sounds like a dream and then it's followed up by something that sounds like a bad, slow morning. It's not like he's all negative on the record, but overall this period of Stevie's discography felt to me more negative on love than positive. For instance You and I starts like a love song but then at the end it also twists into a post breakup whine. Side B makes an attempt at diversifying the lyrical themes by stepping into religion and politics, but love still creeps its way onto it as well. It's a sign of things to come on future records while still retaining the emotion of Music of My Mind. The record is a display of Stevie's enormous musical genius - from the brilliant Superstition, funkiness of Tuesday Heartbreak to misty dream vibes of You Are the Sunshine of My Life. If you liked the synth on this record I suggest reading up on his famous T.O.N.T.O. - one of the famous early synthesizers often used on this record.

love stevie forever, this is such a good album.

Pop genius.

Smooth

Strong 4,5

CUDOWNY

Oddly enough, the first track, the very famous You Are My Sunshine, is by far the weakest song on this LP. Maybe I've been to one too many weddings, but that song does not represent what Mr. Wonder is actually capable of doing. Fortunately the record becomes much more interesting immediately, and while there are fleeting moments of self indulgence, me being bored with the opener isn't enough to ding this project.

This is one of my all time favorite albums. I didn’t listen to Stevie much before Music Of My Mind. But, his amazing music throughout the 70s brought me so much pleasure. But, Talking Book was the best. I Believe kills me every time I hear it.

Outras canções de que gostei muito: — Blame It On The Sun — Lookin’ for Another Pure Love — I Believe

perfekter mix aus schön und geil

Beautiful Beautiful. Adding to my collection

Stevie Wonder’s a musical genius!

Obviously great

Fav song- you are the sunshine of my love

Very nice, almost jumped when I heard Michael Jackson

Classic Stevie, superstition, you and I. If this isn’t a 5 I don’t know what is

Now this was fantastic

Can't believe this is Stevie's 15th album and it kicked off his run of his six most well known albums. Hard to say, but I think this barely edges out Songs In The Key of Life for me. As a kid I got bored trying to learn to play piano and I never did, as an adult it was so difficult to pick up even basic scales and I regret not being more patient with it as a kid. The way Stevie Wonder and anyone who is great at playing is able to imbue feeling into every note is so much more than just playing though. It's truly one of the most impressive things to me. Plus he sings at the same time which is so hard to do. And he plays the drums on top of all that! Truly one of the greatest musicians we've ever had. P.S. Jeff Beck's guitar work on "Lookin' for Another Pure Love" is so good it's insane. Not huge and showy just perfect for the song. I like to think he was just ripping it in the studio and the laugh and "do it Jeff" was actually how Stevie Wonder reacted.

My first five star

This album has I Believe When I Fall In Love with You It Will Be Forever, one of my favorite songs of all time. Other than that this album is undeniable. So good.

Boom 💪 Boom 💪 BOOM! 💪

This is the ultimate Stevie album. It has all the hits I remember growing up listening to. It flows perfectly between funk and smooth soul. Masterpiece album. 10/10

Obviously a certified banger and classic

Loved this album. Lots of fun, funky songs. It’s also giving Steve lacy, I feel like he had to have drawn inspiration from this album or at least from Stevie wonder in general.

So many fabulous tunes on here from a musical prodigy. Loved it!

Beautiful. The classics are there, but there's a very soulful energy in there too.

it's a bop

Strong first song with some bangers throughout the album

I listened to this album 4 times in a row, it’s perfect

God is this guy talented. Fun story about Stevie Wonder: my dad had a friend who had the job of mic-ing him up before a concert. The friend tells him, “hey, I’m sure you hear this a lot, but it’s so impressive that you did all this as a blind, Black man.” Stevie Wonder responds, without any hesitation, “wait—I’m Black?!”

Amazing, lived up to all the hype, made me feel heavenly

It's Stevie Wonder in the middle of his golden period. Of course it's a classic. The only downside is it isn't Innervisions or Songs in the Key of Life.

Love. Superstition is phenomenal, but there’s so much more to the album. Personal favorite is I Believe (when I fall in love it will be forever), with a nod to its use at the end of High Fidelity.

it’s amazing and nobody needs me to say it

Man, I enjoyed this one all the way through. Stevie is a genius. I had to repeat 'Superstition' a few times.

Great opening song, makes me feel the start of a book- hence the title. I like how it’s goes into a funky Jimmy Hendrix beat after .. I listened to the rest in the shower. Prefer the first half of the album but that may be bcs I wasn’t paying attention to the second. 9/10 bcs there was no bad song as expected from Mr Wonder

Yeah this is just a fantastic album. Stevie is a legend!

Endlessly relistenable. Big Brother ❤️

Stevie nails it again. Thanks to this list I've been introduced to more of his work. Not much to say outside of this being a great example of funk and soul. It seems a little softer than his other stuff I'm familiar with, and that works great here. Also Superstition is an all time banger.

Easy 5! Stevie could do no wrong during this era. I’ve often said “Songs in the key of life” is my favorite album of all time but it’s very long and so I don’t reach for it often. If I’m going to listen to Stevie I’ll always go for Talking Book or FFF. This album is just banger after banger. I feel like I could write a paragraph on each track but I’ll keep it short and sweet. This album is overflowing with beautiful songs about love, heartbreak and relationships in general. “You are the sunshine of my life”, “You and I” and “I believe” are a trifecta of my favorite love songs ever. “Superstition” is such a funky bop. “Maybe your baby” is funky as hell and maybe overstays its welcome a little bit but Stevie saying “I’m a little boy” in a weird voice is worth the wait. I’m already tiring of this exercise so let’s just say I love all the other songs on this album too. Just an absolute classic. If you don’t like this album I’m sorry you lead a sad, loveless life.

classic

god I love Stevie so much. Never heard this one I don’t think. Music of my mind is my faves of the ones from him I have listened to - I know songs in the key of life is like his magnum opus but it’s so long and MOMM is so tight and some really cool experimental early stuff with the talk box. Which lets me drop one of my fave fun facts - on blonde by Frank ocean he samples a tv show live performance of Stevie covering They Long To Be (Close To You) in which he uses the talk box for the whole performance and uses that as part of the instrumental for his own cover/interpolation. Also two songs in and this absolutely fucks. Whoever mixed Maybe your Baby I hope they got some crazy good head for that one

A good album with soulful tracks. But totally elevated to a 5 by the inclusion of Superstition.

Looking at those tracks… that’s a 5.

lets go back to 1971 during the black power movement and the Vietnam war. Music is becoming increasing political. Motown puts a ban on all political music. Marvin Gaye releases "Whats Going On." every track masterfully reflects the current political environment . It’s a healer for the violence and support for the victims. Joining him there’s sly stone, Curtis Mayfield, Gil-Scott Heron and many more. The next big player in this movement is stevie wonder. This is the album that made him who he is. ok wait im giving up im too tired to write anything decent Go watch “1971 the year that changed music” cause it’s about everything im trying to say. It’s very good i highly recommend let me put yall on. It’s history and music anyways lets continue sunshine of my life 8/10- i love the way this chord progression develops. A song i could see playing at a bernardi dinner party. makes me feel nostolgic and warm. the drums picking up their pace in the end is mwah maybe your baby 10/10 - janet jackson and thundercat took notes. that dark adictive growel sound oooooooooooooooooooooo. the drums are a character in this song. that solo in the end is such a perfect touch. this music got groveee its fierce you and i 8/10 - a slow song on this album that doesn't drag. i think its beautiful and is an exception to my complaint of the lyrics being to repetitive and commercial (loveyyy love ya know) this is how you do a ballad. the lyrics have their moments (also, stevie wonder can really really sing)
tuesday heartbreak 10/10 - i said this was my least favourite to victor but i 100% take that back. this song is lots of fun, had me up dancing in my room. youve got it bad girl 11/10 - maybe my favoruite on the album along with big brother. this song is perfect and if you disagree listen to it until you hear what im hearing cuase omgodness its amaze. sounds like a rnb song that could be released today (still sounds fresh) i can hear this being a robert glasper song. superstitious 11/10 - classic... dont feel like writing everything me and victor discussed about this song cause im sleepy so ill let him take this one. let me still add a bit of my own. not to trauma dump but this song is exactly what it feels like to have anxiety and ocd. perfect example of the narrative happening in my brain "Keep me in a daydream, keep me going strong You don't wanna save me, sad is my song" this one hits for me big brother 11/10 - same thing as before hopefully victors got this one. 1984 is one of my faovuirte books so i reallyyyyyyy like this one. its very powerful and more relevant then ever, blame in on the sun 8/10 - that chorus is insane. reminds me of a micheal jackson song. Looking for another pure love 8/10 - reminds me a lot of Joni Mitchell I like it (Sorry for all the spelling mistakes I’m sick and tired) - tessa 4.7 stars

I feel like for me, this is the album that began what would later make Stevie Wonder a legendary artist. Although it may not be as legendary as Songs or Innervisions, it manages to stay very positive/groovy and really fun to listen to, while tackling themes of love, heartbreak, loneliness, and political unrest. No skips. I also really enjoy the use of keyboards throughout the whole album. There's a lot of really small details that completely make a lot of the songs for me. "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" starts it off really well, with one of his most-well known ballads. The lyrics are really sweet, and the instruments, especially the really cool panned keyboards and the vocal harmonies, make it really interesting to listen to. "Maybe Your Baby" is the absolute coolest sounding song on this whole album. I Wish (haha see what I did there) more of the album was like this. Despite being over 50 years old, this song sounds really futuristic while also sounding classic at the same time. (Also Thundercat, is that you???) His vocals and lyrics on "You and I" are really, really good, but after already hearing a ballad at the beginning, and hearing Maybe your Baby right after, I was kinda expecting something a little more upbeat. Still sounds really soulful and touching, especially starting at 3:50 (wish more of the song was like this). "Superstition" and "Big Brother" were both REALLY interesting for me, both (possibly) being politically charged. Besides being possibly his biggest hit and being f o n k y asf, I came up with this theory that the verses of Superstition paint a picture of someone doing something against authority, and it being labelled and criticized as "superstitious" by the second character in the chorus. The song then flows seamlessly into "Big Brother," where the identity of the second character is revealed as "Big Brother" - or otherwise: the government. I really think this interpretation speaks a lot to what is happening in the world both then and now. For example, climate change - it's a huge problem, but the government doesn't want us to care, so they drag attention away from it: labelling anyone who cares "superstitious." "Lookin' for Another Pure Love" kinda sounds like the opening track (instrumentally), with the verse melody of "Ordinary Pain" (which is another one of my fav songs from Mr. Wonder). In terms of the instrumentals, Jeff Beck really cooked with this one. Those guitar lines really make the song for me too. The closing track, "I Believe" was really good. I like how it builds over the course of the song, until it reaches the overlapping vocals, and how it kind of just shifts into a completely different gear at the end. Fav: Superstition/Big Brother (im counting it as one song fight me) Likes: YAtSoML, Maybe Your Baby, Superstition/Big Brother, I Believe Least Favs: Tuesday Heartbreak

Great record. Several old favorites and a few new ones.

Stone cold classic..every time I hear Stevie Wonder I w feel I should listen to more.

Stevie is a genius. Texturally, tonally, everything here is the most perfect cream to a cat. All of his 70’s albums fill that description. Picking a “best” is just a matter of personal choice. Mine is Fulfillingness’ First Finale, but then I think about Talking Book and Songs In The Key Of Life and I’m never totally sure.

Ahhhh, Stevie!! Hello, old friend. What a singer — his tenor just ~floats~. What a performer. Fearless. His stuff holds up (and then some) lo these 50+ years later.

Not my favourite Stevie album. But that’s like saying which one of your children you prefer. Unbelievably good.

Stevie Wonder is one of those folks that somehow knows every instrument. Dude is nothing short of amazing. He is so influential and his reach is so far in music it is mind boggling. This album has some of the absolutely best songs. Superstition is perfection, Sunshine of my Life is awesome. I Believe should be played at every wedding for all time. There are some songs that feel repetitive but they aren't bad songs. I have listened to this album so many times before and will again. Great album.

C'mon! It's Stevie freakin' Wonder. The man is a musical genius and if you only had this one album, it would be evidence enough of that fact. A must have for anyone who appreciates music.

Another Stevie classic. Had a blast revisiting this album, just wish I wasn’t on the mend from the flu so I could enjoy it even more!

Shocker

Smooth and relaxing, thinking about buying it on iTunes for the iPod. It’s been raining for the last week here, but this album feels like a cup of hot soup or a warm fire.

Yep another Stevie classic!

Just that signature Stevie Wonder groove throughout

Stevie Wonder is masterful. He can make you smile along to “You Are the Sunshine of my Life,” sing along to “I Believe When I Fall in Love With You it Will be Forever,” and groove to “Superstition.” But before the album ends he also hits you with lyrics like this (from “Big Brother”): You've killed all our leaders I don't even have to do nothin' to you You'll cause your own country to fall Stevie Wonder has such musical, lyrical, and emotional breadth, and yet on his 15th album (?!) he was just getting started.

A couple of Stevie's greatest singles wrapped with a top notch album. So close to perfection that it makes no difference. 4.5/5

I really loved Talking Book but i don't think that is a surprise seeing as this is Stevie Wonder we are talking about here. I was initially thinking that i wouldn't like this album as much as the other albums i have heard from him but this ended up being up there. Every song here was so enjoyable with each instrument being used so well by each musician on each song. The lyrics here were also fantastic with Wonder's voice really adding to them. Also this album went at the perfect length. I was initially thinking i would give this a high 4 stars but i think that Superstition is just way too good for me not to give this album a 5. Best Song: Superstition Worst Song: You Are The Sunshine Of My Life Side Note: Since this will be my last Stevie Wonder album, I'll rank them all here: 1. Songs In The Key Of Life 2. Talking Book 3. Innervisions 4. Fulfillingness' First Finale

It will sound redundant for each Stevie Wonder album that is presented, but the man is a child prodigy and genius who is and always will be progressive and cutting edge. Urban, beats mixed with love songs about partners and children, everything is covered. Another artist I listen to over and over again.

Beautiful album. Stevie was really going through it. Jeff Beck on Looking for another Pure Love. The ballads are endearing. He's the best singer ever.

An enjoyable listen. Good composition overall, though not as good as one of the other albums he has on this list.

CLASSIC

No notes!

A classic. What a voice and what excellent song writing

this fucking record slaps

It’s Stevie Fuckin’ Wonder

As close to perfection as an album can get - and he did this multiple times with different albums around this period!!

#154/1001. Yes, this is the album with Superstition in it. 3 albums in about a year? And most of them contain classics. No wonder his name is Wonder. And this is the one or if the classics I don't own, perhaps need to change that.

Stacked full of hits from his best period.

Stevie Wonder at the top of his game. A beauty from tip to tail, and a very worthy inclusion.

A beautiful & brilliant album that brings me back to the summer of 2009. I would listen to this often in my bedroom while going through my first major breakup, and it proved to be so incredibly therapeutic & helpful to my little aching heart. Music heals - hell yeah!

Excellent 👌 the beginning of prime Stevie Wonder

Excellent

So many tunes, can't believe how much I enjoyed

Awesome

Stevie Wonder is one of those artists that’s undeniable. He couldn’t make a bad project, let alone bad music, even if he tried. That brother could fart into a mic melodically and it’ll sound like the best thing your ears have ever heard. So needless to say I enjoyed this project and it’s good to hear some of his biggest songs within the confines of an album to see where he was trying to take us. I’ll never be disappointed by 70s funk and soul, it was just a perfect marriage with Stevie. Again, brilliant album!

Incredible album.

Classic with plenty of good fun music to enjoy

Stevie Wonder is just a master of his craft

Part of a run of unbeatable stevie albums. You are the sunshine of my life and he's misstra know it all are the hits and are amazing. Maybe your baby is other worldly and Tuesday heartbreak is the best songs written about that day of the week! Seems unfair to single out songs when they are all top notch. Not many have a run of 5 great albums. Stevie does.

I know most people don't listen to albums like this anymore but just an all timer Side 1 track 1 and Side 2 track 2.

Quality from start to finish.

Ending on I believe. Got to be 5 stars

Classic.

So, so amazing. Very beautiful songs that use such creative harmonies and melodies, yet the entire album never sounds overly complicated. You and I was a highlight on this album for me that I had never heard before.

Favourite Track: Maybe Your Baby, Superstition, Blame it on the Sun

What can be said? The king.

Nuostabuuuu. Labai patinka jo balsas, jo tekstai, ir muzika labai užveda.

Undoubtedly, my favorite Stevie Wonder album. I know many people would go with Songs in the Key of Life or Innervisions, but I think what I love about this album is that it captures the bridge between his Motown sound and him finding a more unique artistic sound of his own...which is a great bridge to be on, musically. Also, for nostalgia, I remember hearing "I Believe" for the first time as the credits rolled on the movie High Fidelity. I loved that song and it was actually the motivation for me to listen to more Stevie Wonder (because I liked all the hits but then realized maybe I liked more than just the hits). So, for the playlist from this project I went with "I Believe" and "Tuesday Heartbreak"--two really good album tracks from a really good album. "Maybe Your Baby" almost made it--also considered the hits "You're the Sunshine of My Life" and "Superstition"...as well as "You've Got it Bad Girl" and "Big Brother." Lots of options on this album!

What a combination of voice, lyrics, and instrumentation. The sound on the album is so interesting and varied even before being paired with Wonder's vocals. He sings with such emotion and joy that it's contagious. Impossible to have this album go unnoticed in the background. Superstition absolutely struts and it's impossible not to be inspired to move.

Good Songs: You Are The Sunshine Of My Life, Maybe Your Baby, You and I, Tuesday Heartbreak, You’ve Got It Bad Girl, Superstition, Big Brother, Blame It On The Sun, Lookin’ For Another Pure Love, I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever) Mid Songs: Bad Songs:

Voice as smooth as silk. Music is funky, then jazzy, then real soft and tender. All genres equally strong. A perfect blend of love songs and funky jams. I feel like Superstition would probably be my favourite track if id not heard it 1000 times before. Still a tune of course. As it is, it would need to be You and I or I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever). What an album. Spun it twice already, quite prepared for a 3rd listen on the trot. 9/10

Just class

The fact that this was Stevie's 15th album is mind-blowing to me. It's not just the listening but sitting with the thought of this album afterwards that I'm impressed with just how good it was and still is. This album is a part of a 4 year stretch of what critics labeled his "classic era" and I can see why. Obviously the go to songs we know but I've always loved "I believe when I fall in love". I confess the first time I heard it really was in the ending of the film High Fidelity and it grabbed me by the collar. The choice of Robert Margouleff as his producer is so interesting to me as he was a collaborator of Robert Moog (Moog synthesizers) and you see how influential those keyboards and synths were. They became synonymous with Stevie's sound. You & I is as perfect a love song as you can write, I'd be foolish to label the writing simple because he communicates the simple in profound ways and the arrangement only reveals musically what love can make you feel. I could hear some of his political voice in this as well. I'm a bit embarrassed I haven't sat with this record more in my life. I'll keep coming back to this one. 5 stars

Superstition is an all timer. Few can bring it quite like Stevie can.

Superstition!

Stevie Wonder will never see this review so why should I bother. 4.3/5 JF

Absolute classic 🔥🔥🔥 9/10 at least 3/09/25

Couldn’t be better

I can’t imagine a better album in this genre. The instrumentation is phenomenal. Stevie’s vocals are impeccable. The whole album is even better than I remembered.

A part of one of the greatest album runs.

I really loved this one. So so so so many good songs on it. Even the ones im ehhhh about really work in favor of the album.

Soulful vibes. So much Love…. Great songs for romance and dinnertime

"Talking Book" is a classic album that contains what is arguably Stevie Wonder's most famous song, "Superstition". This was his second album after being given full creative liberty from Motown and, in his 15th album overall, you can sense he was really starting to hit his stride even amidst a divorce and the still raging Vietnam War. Musically genius and wonderfully experimental for 1972, I'm surprised this is the first time I've listened to the full album from beginning to end. But, it definitely will not be the last. I've always thought that you need to have a certain empathy and proclivity towards humanity's more tender emotions to relate to Wonder's catalog, but this album has something for everyone.

Although he’s blind as a bat he plays a mean piano. Superstition for the win

Possibly my favorite Stevie Wonder album. Perfectly produced and performed mostly by Wonder himself. The additional musicians are top-caliber and include superstars Jeff Beck, David Sanborn, and Ray "Ghostbusters" Parker Jr. Only loses a half-star for a couple of weaker tunes on side two, but gets it back with one of the best album closers ever in "I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever).

I just fucking love Stevie Wonder. You can feel his soul shine through his music.

rednoW eivetS, always a good listen

What a treat, what a talent !

Genuine work of art. Funky and amazing feel. Loved it.

Total classic for sure and rediscovered Tuesday Heartbreak.

I enjoyed this album very much. Loved the funky baseline in Maybe Your Baby. I just love Songs In The Key Of Life a bit better as an album

10/10 absolute unit of an album

Amazing! Honestly, I went back and forth about whether this was a five. I have a long list in both columns in my head. But it's just so good. It has to be five.

It’s Stevie. This is part of that great run of albums he did. My own preference is innervisions. But superstition alone makes this a 600 star album. And the rest is great anyway.

He brings everything together on this one death freaks. He marries that incredible pop sensibility to the grooves that had been playing in his head since the late sixties, just needed to get the kaftan on to make it happen. That clavinet sound, there'd never been anything like it before nor since. Getting his backing singers to sing the two opening lines of You Are The Sunshine, and then doing that thing he does with his own voice and melds the two of theirs into one. How does he do that? I can never get that opening 3-4 lines out of my head, just beautiful. On that track alone he celebrates American signwriting in all its guises, a lyric that Cole Porter would have been proud of married to a latter period Motown smoove groove. Ditto I Believe, which the movie High Fidelity had the good sense to finish with. Tuesday Heartbreak, it is endless...enjoy!

This is an actual classic album. Stevie Wonder in his imperial period. It is hard to over-praise this record.

I have literally nothing bad to say. Stevie kicked off a truly legendary run with this album, finding a unique sound that took synthesizers and infused them with warmth and soul far beyond their programming. Soul-restoring, life-affirming music that also makes you wanna shake your ass. Incredible stuff.

A beautiful album

loved!!!

Fantastic album. Amazing what Stevie Wonder put out in such a short amount of time.

This would get a 5 for Superstition alone, but the rest of the record is great as well.

Amazing album from start to finish. Great instrumentals, great voice, great energy.

Solid all around.

oh yeah. OOOOHHHHH yeah. really solid album. stevie wonder NEVER misses. “you and i” is the PERFECT power ballad. also “superstition” is of course amazing. the rest of the songs were also really good but these two stood out. super fun, super groovy listen. the instrumentation can’t be beat. 5/5.

Alleen "You And I", "Blame it on the Sun" iets minder, maar uiteraard gewoon een vijfsterrenplaat (viereneenhalf, afgerond naar vijf).

I believe

Spiritual and emotional, loved it, 100% perfect!

Excellent! Classic Album

Oh HELL yes

This dude was just on such a heater through the first half of the 70’s it’s absurd. I don’t think this is as good as Innervisions or SITKOL, but that’s like comparing the guy who finished third in the Olympic marathon to the guys who finished first and second. He’s still not blind.

Classic Stevie Wonder! Great album.

Banger

Badass.

Excellent Stevie Wonder again.

I always forget how much I like Stevie Wonder until digging into one of albums. Legend.

wonderful & lively! i love this rec

It's Stevie's best period, he's 15 albums in and he starts to write really good songs. This is a great album, with some classic songs.

Upon relistening, I think this album was great. The production (when it comes to Stevie) is superb as always. It does get sorta cheesy at times but I thought it positively added on to the vibes of the album. Maybe there are a few songs you could nitpick but overall this was fye. Top 3: You Are the Sunshine of My Life, You and I, and Blame It on the Sun no bad songs 4.50-4.75/5

Great album by one of the greatest.

I could listen to Stevie Wonder sing anything

Todo lo de Stevie Wonder es una OBRA MAESTRA.

One of my favorite all time albums. Listened to Superstition so much when I was learning saxophone. But this album is what an album should be. A consistent cohesive flowing piece of art. Stevie is one of the best. His use of the synthesizers are so funky but buttery smooth. So much of my favorite music today is inspired by this album.

The first Stevie Wonder album that really grabbed me. I heard "I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)" during the end credits of High Fidelity, which lead me here. "Song in the Key of Life" is the masterpiece, but this will always be my favorite.

Legendary

Beautiful

Back to back bangers.

How does this man kick so much ass?

9/10 Stevie really is one of those artists that, while being one of the most highly-rated musicians of all time, could still be considered under-rated. Yeah, he wrote (or co-wrote) some of the greatest songs ever, he’s a virtuoso on anything with a keyboard and he’s got one of the greatest (and most versatile) voices in popular music. But he also played nearly all of the main parts on the album too. All of the drums - Stevie. All of the bass (except the opener) - Stevie (playing a Moog). Oh, and he was the lead producer too. I feel like there are some very slight lulls in this album and it’s probably my 3rd favourite of his albums, but it’s still an exceptional piece of work. While a couple of the songs won’t be troubling my favourites lists, as a part of the album as a whole they combine to make something that flows so beautifully and really encapsulates the concept an album as a coherent singular piece of art. That opening to side two is just ridiculous too. The one, two punch of Superstition and Big Brother? Do behave yourself. You Are The Sunshine Of My Life - It’s a love song, but it’s got such a funky little undercurrent with the gorgeous Rhodes and Bass that just walks all over the place. Beautiful harmonies too. Maybe Your Baby - Again, the staccato funk from the combination of clavinet and Moog is so good. I love the way Stevie’s vocals just dive around all over the place but never seem set-indulgent or overdone. He doesn’t sound like he’s being a try hard, just that he can’t help his should taking over. That being said, this is too long. You and I - A more understated track. It’s nice, but not spectacular. Tuesday Heartbreak - Now we’re talking. What’s better than the Rhodes in track one and the Clavinet and Bass in track two? All three together. I’m not sure it’s possible to listen to this without at the very least tapping your toe. If you manage it, you’ve got no soul. You’ve Got It Bad Girl - This has some really beautiful harmonies. More of a jam piece than some of the tighter tracks on the album, but there’s so much talent in there that it’s a jam I’m happy to listen to. Superstition - I mean, it’s Superstition. The Clavinet does so much to bring the groove. The vocal is fantastic. And Stevie played everything on the track except the horns. Big Brother - Another absolute banger. Such a groove, and political Stevie somehow manages to be both funky and biting in his delivery. I love Stevie playing the harmonica and while it takes more of a backseat here than it does in some of his other tracks, it’s still so so good here. Blame It On The Sun - Slowing down the tempo for a love song, but there is so much going on here, it’s still fantastic. Little trills all over the place from the piano, guitar, even some lovely drum fills. And it still grooves. Lookin’ For Another Pure Love - The different instruments wash in and out of focus in this so nicely. Oh, and here’s a solo from Jeff Beck. I love the way all of the vocal lines compliment each other and again, the musicianship on show lends more of a jam feel to this one. I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever) - Bit more of a cheesy closer, but the way this ebbs and flows is great. And the vocal layering that builds in the second half is just great.

Superstition is an all time song, no doubt about it, but the rest of this album is very good as well. You Are the Sundhine of My Life is particularly sweet because I'm about to have my first baby girl and the song just swells me up. Other standouts here are Blame It On the Sun and Lookin' for Another Pure Love. Stevie Wonder is massively talented and his music is infinitely enjoyable. I did like Innervisions Fulfillingness' First Finale a bit more, but man what a run for Stevie in the early 70s. Can't wait to get to Songs in the Key of Life, glad that one was left last for me.

Such a wonderful collection of songs. Superstition is one of the best songs ever made and you are the sunshine of my life is so beautiful. One of the best albums by maybe the greatest of all time

This was a really great listen. I've always been more into inner visions but this is a perfect record

love this album!!!

Utrolig. Eg elske Stevie, og dette albumet e ein av grunnene. Superstition e åpenbart en knaller, men digga "You and I" og "Blame it on the sun". Stemmen og musikaliteten hans e legendarisk

This has superstition on it, so basically an automatic five stars. One of the best songs of all time, and the best sesame street performance of all time (look it up, its awesome.) First half is great, but I absolutely love the second half of Talking Book, every song is essential. I would put Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life ahead of this one personally, but its a super strong beginning to a triumphant decade for Stevie Wonder

I could listen to Stevie Wonder read the dictionary and it would be a 5/5 for me. Love him and his music.

It’d feel wrong to rate this any lower. He’s a genius. And he was only 22! Songs all feel timeless, every listen is rewarding. One of those albums to be stuck on a desert island with.

Awesome

This album is so good… a catalyst of what was to come.

So so so good.

Im a sucker for Stevie Wonder, fire album. Honestly deserves 5 stars for superstition alone, everything else was bonus. 5 stars

Superstition gives this album a five already, everything else just puts this to an easy six. I think missing was just a concept completely beyond Stevie’s understanding. He don’t miss. Remarkable album filled to the brim with remarkable songs.

Not my favorite Stevie (or even top 5?) but still wonderful

6/5/25. Love Stevie Wonder, and in turn loved each song on this album. Very soulful and progressive for its time.

Absolute banger

Amazing album, full of great tunes and invention. Always a pleasure to have a reason to play his. Would give 5 stars for Superstition alone.

For my taste, Stevie Wonder albums tend to have a couple amazing songs, then a bunch of stuff I just don’t care about that make me question my love for him. This album, however, is solid throughout. Easily my favorite of the Stevie albums I’ve heard thus far. Plus, Superstitious is on it, which is one of my favorites.

Pretty enchanting throughout. Smooth, funky, and full of heart. A landmark record that still feels alive today.

this is maybe my favorite stevie album? is that crazy? extremely great from front to back. the singles ('you are the sunshine of my life' and 'superstition') of course are timeless, but the album cuts are really terrific too, from the subdued and sweet 'you and i' to the funkier cuts 'maybe your baby' and 'tuesday heartbreak' to the album closer 'i believe (when i fall in love it will be forever' which combines the two into a great ending. as with most everything stevie, the musicianship is great and the production sounds nice. and as always, with stevie, i feel it important to point out HE WAS 22 WHEN HE MADE THIS. crazy. incredible. think about what you were doing when you were 22. not this, i'll tell you.

Another record full of bangers from Stevie. Who knew? 9/10

I recognized the first song from this album as a song we studied in my musical theatre performance class in college. Also recognized Supserstition. This isn't my go to genre, but the music is incredible, the voice is amazing, and the vibes are soaring

This was excellent.
