Solid album, lulls every here and there
Relaxing background music
Interesting, not interesting enough to actively listen again
Kept my attention for 2hrs, good variability, enjoyed the calmness of the final track after the album
Surprisingly classic, starts as 00’s rock then goes back in time
Nice to get some British Asian representation, decent mix between Asian and other styles
Live concert typical blues.
Silky, cool, delicious Motown music.
God introduction to southern American guitar
Makes me want to go back to LA Noire and put on an old timey detective voice
Nice addition of piano, some highlight songs but can’t remember which ones except Blue Orchid
Enjoyed the fluidity of the album and length of it, Queen sound came through well and good variety in tracks.
Great songs, could have removed 4th track but the nostalgia still hits hard. I’ve realised I’m a pophead.
Remarkable musician singing about unremarkable lives. Love how full of life he makes everyday life feel in his tracks; makes me feel like I’m listening to the highs and lows of a slice-of-life movie. Already knew I loved ‘She’s always a woman’ and still remains my top track. Don’t know whether it was the rare Salford sun while walking around seeing quotidian life that was making me feel warm about this album, but bloody loved every bit of it.
Understand why this album belongs in this collection and appreciate that some will like it. First sounded like the same, second half is better, appreciated that the songs were short; post-punk ain’t my thing.
I’m very underwhelmed, one song stands out. That’s it.
I get it, it has a sound.
Loud messy guitar with an equally messy vocalist
A distinct lack of emotion, I’m already tired of this genre of Brit Rock
Some decent songs, one famous one then a weird instrumental portion at the end of album
Liked the guitar tone and love with or without you, sprinkled with other good tracks as well
Great intros but then I get bored when he’s singing
Think Thriller is better, but last songs allow this album into my 5 stars. Loved MJ ok the car journeys and still love him now.
Suave, downtrodden grown up music with a weird clown song in the middle
Enjoyed this sound, Gypsy Queen is great.
Marge Simpson singing, one recognisable song: Piece of My Heart
I do like Kendrick, not as good as money trees.
Basic rock with 4 good lines in the album. Sounds like a guitar hero song I’d play once in campaign and never again.
Starts well peaking at money trees, drops slightly but come back again. Would listen to again
I don’t really get jazz, there was one line in the second song which I liked but I just can’t get into jazz
Started out thinking I might like this album but then just got bored
Decent, interesting album but don’t get the hype around Elton John from this album
China girl is good but the rest is tiresome
Background music, some interesting bits but mostly boring
This album is the capitulation of ‘Oooh This sounds like something I’d like! Oh…oh no… they've lost me… I’m bored’
Yee’haw Country for 2 hours. Thats it, that’s the album.
Enjoyed her voice, started off well with silky city sound, then lost itself.
Good album, would listen again but 21 is better
Sounds like I expected, nice to know where ‘Walk this way’ comes from and still catchy song and melody
I don’t want to be here, the singer sounds as if he doesn’t want to be here as well.
It’s definitely ambient music, but was I wrong for expecting more given it was on this list?
Death metal then ends with more earthly acoustic sound.
So many great songs, didn’t realise they were all in one album
Feels like being in a jazz club, 4 stars rather than 3 as think I’d buy a vinyl of this (if I had a turntable)
What was that. Listened to it but can not tell you what I heard except noise.
It’d be interesting to know what I’d rate this if I wasn’t learning how to play guitar, liked some of the riffs, but sometimes solos go on too long.
‘A girl and her guitar’ the album
Enjoyed it, bit long but I intently listened to each track which can’t say I do for many albums. I get what the ‘wika-wika’ is now on turntables.
The energy in this album was great, and the guitar licks were gorgeous. Highlights include Alison and Watching the Detectives.
There’s nothing special about this album, pretty sure I’ve heard the same songs in another album. Don’t know why it’s on this list and the vocalist sounds so bored by the end of it.
This is what I’d imagine an album would be if a band chugged 10 beers before they recorded in the studio.
It’s just a bit mad isn’t! Makes me think of a never-ending fair performance hosted by Bacchus; enjoyed the variety of instruments also.
Definitely has a distinctive sound to the album. ‘Take me Out’ is definitively a great song.
Nice vibe to album, what I thought Elvis would sound like which was pleasant but no major surprises in terms of stand out songs. Best was Fever which he didn’t originally sing.
I was initially looking forward to this given the album title but my god is it drivel. Didn’t realise when the album had looped because I was that bored and it all sounded the same. Only picked up on Gypsy Woman but the long, dull tones that dominate this album just overpower my willingness to give any track a try.
Started out with grungey sound that I was enjoying then lost me towards the end with what sounds like exhaustion by the end of it
I can imagine this is the music played at a village green. Not for me though
Didn’t realise this was a rock opera until and asked who the f Tommy was and then googled it. Overall, it’s a nice concept with distinctive sound and understand why it’s in this list. Personally, couldn’t really follow along; feel like you need to know what this album is to really understand it.
Interesting listen with multiple different languages, nevertheless no track really grabbed my attention as special.
I’m so bored of mediocre rock albums that are a part of this just because it was part of a sub-genre that was popular for half a year in the eighties.
Unsettling. Reason it’s not a 1 is because I’ve genuinely never heard anything make my skill crawl and I can see why people may like that. For me, couldn’t wait for it to end.
This album drips with a cosy, warm style and it builds this theme until its pinnacle: Fame.
Knew who Ray Charles was but didn’t understand his significance. Now I do. Great album but I feel disadvantaged because I don’t really know the original songs that he reworked. My only gripe is that it does seem to slow towards the end. Nonetheless would happily listen again.
It’s interesting enough to listen to, wish I could understand it, but the style carries most of its meaning.
Unsettling and weird, certainly unique though.
Don’t understand why I’m listening to a live album, don’t really understand what’s special about it. It’s fine with the medley being my favourite journey but why wouldn’t I just listen to the studio records?
It’s very chirpy and it’s nice they didn’t overstay their welcome with a nice short album. Overall nice to listen to but really can’t tell you any standout singles.
I like the tone of this one, it’s not spectacular except for the first few songs but Hotel California is too nostalgic for me to not bump the rating up.
Mixed feelings about this, stated thinking it would be another ‘girl and guitar’ albums that bore me but midway through started liking it, peaking at ‘This Mess we’re in’. After a few songs though it swelled to its flatness. 2.5 if I could, rounding up to 3.
More tolerable than other Brit rock albums. Still nothing special to my ears though.
I appreciate the fantastical vibe to this album and suits a tavern mood. Doesn’t grab me though.
Enjoyed this album, ‘Heads will Roll’ is the stand out but the rest surprised with their alternative sound.
Cool and groovy album, maybe influenced by just watching Ocean’s 11 previously but fits into that vibe. Can’t say I actively enjoyed a single track though which is a shame.
Was really looking forward to this album after the beautiful piano introduction, even the raunchy lyrics didn’t deter me. However, the musical quality deteriorated after the first track and it didn’t sufficiently counteract Mr Drury’s dogged horniness.
Doesn’t have ‘Last Christmas’ or ‘Fairytale from New York’ so no reason to listen to these.
Don’t get it, quick but emotionless tracks. Got bored by the same sounding guitar patterns by the third single.
Background relaxing guitar.
Surprised I enjoyed 1hr of solo piano. Very emotive but trailed towards the end. Notes that this should be listened to in one sitting.
It’s fine, too bland for my taste both the music and the singer.
Appreciate the grunge and started off enjoying the angry, disdainful mood but can’t listen to entire album of it.
It’s funky but bit too long for my taste, I feel this could be condensed so that the quality remains high throughout. Low-key reminds me of Persona 3.
Can’t say that any single really stood out except Kashmir but during the entirety of it there were gorgeous guitar tones which I enjoyed. Think my anticipation to like Led Zeppelin boosts it from 3.5 to 4
Refreshing change of pace, grew on me the more I listened
Just because you’re rapping about social issues doesn’t make the music good. Was interesting for first min of each track but then lost interest
Some nice guitar tunes but nothing that resonated with me.
Enjoyed this one, mood was old school acoustic then added some flair with some funky lines.
Wouldn’t say this is bad but nothing resonated with me, could listen to this in background but wouldn’t actively choose it. Still hoping for a jazz album that will make sense to me.
Interesting fusion of jazz with rock elements (I think), again nothing that stands out that I really enjoyed though.
I do enjoy the madness of the Dexys, think there’s other album had a single track which encapsulated that, this one has similar vibes but no stand outs
Started off interested by the stories weaved by Cohen, but then he sounded bored of singing them so I got bored
Definitely aces the fast high bpm punk rock, liked the start but then couldn’t listen to much after that, I don’t recognise the subtleties between each song.
I think I enjoy smooth soul music
Had some classics and some new ones, overall enjoyed the mellow tone. Give it a 4 rather than 3, bc why not.
So confused by this album, talks about serious adult stuff but sounds like I’m at a children’s fair.
Some nice bits but overall forgettable
I DON’T GET IT. I like rock, I like pop but this sounded like another generic Brit pop album to me won’t be exception of Eleanor Rigby. First Beatles album and woefully disappointed, is this what everyone was talking about?
Can say I enjoyed every song on this album, think it suits my desire to hear soulful, raw and hauntingly heartbroken music. Love how the guitar, drums and voice all complement each other to create an hour of sombre sound.
This guy can play, but he doesn’t showcase his Melodie’s in this album. Very blues-y for a racist.
Nice variety in this album can’t say I truly enjoyed it though.
Good pop album but didn’t love it as much as I thought I would, no massive ABBA hits to bump it up either.
Really enjoyed the variety and every track was good despite the changes. Reminds me of a 90’s equivalent to Fred Again
This was exciting to listen to, first half was brilliant and B.B.’s charisma shines through in his commentary and riffs. Second half waned but still the best blues album I’ve heard so far. Didn’t think live albums were good but the concert with the crowd and quips makes me feel there and enjoyed it more than a plain album performance.
Fun and energetic, probably a 3.5 but will round up.
For most of this I was bored, just a man who feels sorry for himself is the vibe I got but honestly didn’t really listen to the lyrics that deeply.
Yeh it’s a nice different vibe of rap, but mainly listened to it without paying attention.
There’s something unique about the Beastie Boys sound, didn’t really understand the message of the songs but couldn’t help moving along to the beats. Also nice interludes and variety of styles in this album.
Started off fine but then how can anybody listen to this for 45 mins is beyond me.
I’m sure there’s some that love this laidback style but lot for me.
Nice change of pace but nothing I loved in this one
There were some bits where I appreciated the core instruments but then it gets tainted with a distorted torture of sound which leaves a sour taste.
Really enjoyed this one, has some hits and a few that I found interesting. Think overall I would rate the actual music a 4 but I don’t think I’ve heard an album similar to this in terms of flow and structure; I loved the interlude’s and felt they improved the 75mins as it breaks the album up better. So 5 stars it is.
I appreciate the skill this guy has but it doesn’t connect with me, wish I did know how to like this album but the back beats get boring to me
There were times I enjoyed the fairytale like sadness in this album, especially Blue Moon but overall the album didn’t capture me as much
Bit disappointed honestly, was expecting great folk music but only got decent. Can see why people fall in love with Dylan’s music but not for me, enjoyed ‘Make you feel my love’; that one gave me the thought provoking sound that I expected, the rest weren’t memorable to me.
I know some Metallica, I’ve enjoyed some Metallica but there was nothing in this album that I really enjoyed. I appreciate the hard guitar but it didn’t keep my attention. Shame.
This is a difficult one, the singles stand out and BIG’s flow is really engaging to listen to but I don’t want to listen to him getting dirty. Would be 5 but bc I can’t listen to this in any setting other than the privacy of my headphones, it’s a 4.
It’s a simple formula: bassy jazz, drum line with non-stop rhymes, it should get boring after a while but it doesn’t for me. The laid back amalgamation of hip-hop drums and beats with jazzy undertones works for me and I love actually hearing what they’re saying even if the meaning does go over my head sometimes.
Yeh it’s an indie album, I liked it for a bit but then thought it lacked an emotional edge for me, didn’t make me feel anything positive or negative.
I was flipping between 3 and 4 for this album, there are some parts that are fantastic but then I become absent minded for other parts. Nevertheless the last track is divine, love the vocal melody and the creative guitar parts. 4 stars in summary.
Joyful summer dreamy weather, could listen to this all day with the sun above the garden.
I was expecting more energy and more rambuctiousness similar to ‘My Generation’ but it all fell flat except for that track.
This album is iconic songs I enjoy but didn’t realise Stevie Wonder produced them. Two discs are a bit ling but no other complaints
I’m bored, bored of this genre. What does this add, absolutely nothing.
You know what, I’m glad I’ve been able to listen to an entire DnB album so I can really form an opinion on it. Having said that I never want to hear this drawn out drum back track ever again.
Started with best song and overall okay synth 80’s but nothing else hits like ‘Take on me’
From the first minute, I felt I was listening to something epic. It is long but it’s something I think I want to listen to again having read about the story of the album. Comparing to the other rock opera I’ve listened to (‘Tommy’) this is definitively so much better. Unsure about 4 or 5 stars, 4 because there are some songs I don’t care about but 5 stars because it is a unique experience of an album.
Listened to the style of Springsteen in the first track and knew I’d enjoy it. I was thinking initially a 4 and had settled on it until the flourishing finale which made me want to listen to the album again. Listening to this made me recall Billy Joel’s ‘The Stranger’ when I was in Salford, now it’s Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run’ which I hope to remember Fitzroy by. Fantastic album!
I listened to this but I don’t remember anything about it except a bit of guitar.
Didn’t need to be any hour long, reminds me of a stripped back more toned down vibe of Chappell Roan. Most tracks are self-indulgent to me but some such as the title track have some substance to them.
‘Lovefool’ is a catchy song, there’s the same tone but not as remarkable.
Thought I’d like the uppity nature of the album but became brainless background music in the end.
Relaxing and warm vibe to the album, nice to listen to but nothing special for me.
My god, this is what they play at those religious indoctrination camps in the south isn’t it. Unique but get this out of my ears.
So I’ve tried 4 times to listen to this album but it’s 2 FRICKING HOURS AND I CANT DO IT. Listened to first disc and I see the appeal but there’s no way I’m listening to a feature length movie of space music.
Could have been 4 songs rather than 40 minutes, I do like some of the hippy earthiness of this album but I can’t recall any song I actually liked.
Soul is a great genre, another smooth relaxing and timeless album.
It’s not bad but I was expecting it to be a bit more emotive for me, I know Black and I love that single but the others didn’t hit for me.
Got a good voice with an Irish twang but bit too slow for me.
Relaxing but barely noticed it when I was doing discharge summaries.
Interesting futuristic sound but nothing more than that.
I can now appreciate Today, it’s a good song and I’m glad my guitar hero trauma has been healed
Man I love these jazzy, funky live albums, this was good but I think BB’s is a shade better, also ends relatively abruptly but it’s an exciting 30mins
So I was going through this album thinking it was awful, I accidentally hit a different track and couldn’t find out where I was so I just stopped and that’s enough for me.
It was a decent listen, head rocking at some points but wouldn’t actively seek out this album.
It’s a chirpy album with 2 classic songs, enjoyed it but not immensely.
‘Wake up’ is such a exceptional track that the rest fade into the background; I feel it’s an indie artsy album which I appreciate but other than that one epic, it doesn’t do it for me.
I always look forward to listening to a jazz album in the hopes that this will be the one that makes me get it. It wasn’t this one. It sounded laborious and mundane, the exact opposite of what Ryan Gosling promised me in La La Land.
Pleasant but not memorable
Unique African folk music, I like this album because I’ve never heard much like it and can appreciate the contrast to what I usually listen to. The only thing is that I didn’t find anything that I absolutely loved.
So thought this was quite long and considered not listening to the deluxe album, went to the headquarters sessions and that was 3hrs long; so I submitted myself to the 90min version but I had enough by 60mins. It’s a classic pop sound but it’s stale and I wouldn’t want to listen again because it’s been the same song on repeat for an hour.
Relaxing, laudback and easy tunes, need to have the sun out to enjoy this properly.
I enjoyed the shouty rap and had some classics on here.
Disappointing and generic, doesn’t have the same emotional conveyance as some of the other songs I’ve heard from the foo fighters
If it were 45 mins of the best then 5 stars. I actually listened to about 2hrs of it but couldn’t make it through the rest as forgot where I left. I enjoyed the music but it’s too bloody long!
I don’t get it, my favourite was the stripped back last track, the rest were forgettable.
Starts with grand weighty guitar tones and then the drums come rolling in. I expected the voice to come in and play back up to the guitars and drums, but it was glorious. The hefty chords and drums continued throughout, really enjoyed it but weaned towards the end. War Pigs is a tune for sure.
I’m a sucker for lonely, sad tones and this fits the bill. I like his strong but at same time weak vocals, like he’s holding on. Hurt is completely re-imagined in a more visceral manner and I love how the album ends, like Cash is saying goodbye. Beautiful.
Good samples and Nas writes poetry.
Another Brit rock album, but this one had some tracks that were enjoyable, I especially liked ‘The Next Life’ but the others weren’t so impactful.
An album that was produced for two singles: ‘Angels’ and ‘Let Me Entertain You’. The rest sounded like filler.
I can’t remember this album. I just listened to it and cannot remember a single song, what I do remember is not hating it.
One thought provoking, timeless track, the others not so.
It’s a Smiths album, has their classic guitar tone which I found oh so average. I don’t love The Smiths.
The beats were a good foundation but then I feel the rhymes didn’t live up to it, there were times when I felt the beats overpowered the lyricist and I would t say I was blown away by the flow of his raps.
Fun vibes but ultimately not a memorable album.
This is the kind of music I think stoners would like.
Nice American rocking music with a couple of known, just didn’t resonate with me.
There are some masterful guitar parts in this and I bloody love ‘All along the watchtower’. However I feel there is some faff stuck in between which makes me lose my focus on the album.
Glad i listened to the 40min album, i got the vibes in the first track and honestly that’s all you need, don’t think there’s a reason to listen to the rest
Murky, moody noir album. Bass does a lot of heavy lifting in this album, liked the mood but can’t say I enjoyed the music.
Nah there’s no way someone heard this and thought ‘That’s one of the greatest albums I’ve ever heard’; I don’t believe it. It’s the epitome of average, nothing bad but nothing good.
Now this is more my speed!! The grandiose theatrical piano with the addition of rocking guitar supplemented by Meat Loaf’s heavy, sonorous voice is beautiful. I thought meat loaf was a hard rock album but I was so gratefully surprised with this emotional epic that somehow balances the excitement of banging your head to the beat and making your heart heavy. Loved it, wish I had discovered it before but so glad I know of it now.
It’s nice, but background playing for me.
You always get weirdness with Bjork, initially sounded like a pagan dark souls soundtrack but then went into some unexpected beatboxing and teenage girl crying. I will always be bemused by Bjork, nevertheless am I glad I listened to it? Yes. Would I listen to it again? Nahhhhh
I enjoyed the vibes and the new wave/synth genre. Songs were catchy and still on the radio today.
Classic dad rock, can imagine some old age guys thinking this is the peak of music.
Some groovy bits but then it lost my attention in the moaning sections.
It’s indie, it’s nice, but what makes it stand out? I’m not too sure.
Smooth easy listening, no standouts though.
This makes me feel classier than I actually am and listening to the live album transports me to a classic European concert, I love that I’ve not heard anything album like this yet in this list and I love how it makes me feel.
I like the bass that Kravitz uses it slightly declined towards the end but overall enjoyed this album.
This is a conditional album, in the sense that I liked it when I was relaxed and had quiet surroundings. Listened to it twice by mistake but second time round was better than the first and it soothed me with its genial tones.
Wasn’t expecting an instrumental Bowie album. Sounds much like spa music that wants to give you just a bit of a creepy vibe.
I should rate this higher given he’s a childhood household legend but the songs are too long and droning.
First time in this list that an my opinion has completely switched while listening to it. First track made me think it’s some plain punk rock but then the middle two tracks have a despondent glory to them that I love.
It’s unique but it’s all over the shop.
There are some classics in there that are timeless, but once you get past them there’s nothing spectacular but still remains enjoyable throughout.
Nah this can’t be what everyone was going on about, it’s a nice story but wouldn’t say it’s a stand out album, just a bit more Brit Rock.
Wasn’t expecting to but I loved this mix of rock, hip pop and punk more than I ever thought. Starts with head banging, lost me a bit in the middle but then came back again strong, probably a 4.5 but I’ll round up.
This album is chaotic, and I don’t like it. It was a very long hour.
Great voice and second half I.e. disc 2 is better than the first but nothing that made me desire to listen to this album again. It suits the mainstream radio that I associate with Aguilera.
I don’t get the hype for Radiohead and this album was plain boring to me, sounds like they’re one step away from watching Andrew Tate videos.
There were times when it was easy and thought provoking but I found myself meandering through this album, which ultimately means it wasn’t that interesting to dedicate my full attention to it
There are parts of this I enjoyed but there are parts that sound like music which belong to a weird cartoon movie
I would be lying if I may if I didn’t say I enjoyed the instrumentals, very progressive and mournfully dreamy but then the lyrics come in and it seems forced. There was also a track that has a beautiful twinkling sequence that suddenly cuts off. It’s almost amazing, but there are big things that just don’t work.
I tried to like this album so much that I listened to it 3 times but apart form their main single I didn’t feel any excitement
Started as a 4 with good story telling like in ‘Stan’ but then as album went on I lost the plot, it became more edge-lord than Eminem. I can still appreciate the talent but it’s long and there’s that sloppy skit which made me want to stop listening all together.
This woman is singing long tales about some stuff that I couldn’t be bothered to pay attention to. The only thing I liked about it was it gave me the vibe of a dark bar with an amateur band playing while dancing with someone like in the movies, but even then I would prefer it to be background music rather than actively listen to it.
I didn’t think I liked Johnny Cash… but then I got hit with Johnny’s charisma on stage interacting with then audience. But then i got my toe-tapping to the country tunes and the authenticity came through when he introduced June. But then I realised he was playing to inmates and his care for the audience was shown through his choice of songs. For me it peaked at San Quentin and it somehow didn’t incite a prison riot. The reason this is a 5 is not because of the music but because Cash was able to relate to one of the most downtrodden populations, it transports you to San Quentin itself and I don’t think there will be another album like this.
The other album is better, this one is the same thing except with the craziness and more cba attitude
Except for that one track, it just sounds like noise to me. Not my kind of album.
Nice upbeat feel and sounds like he enjoyed making his music but not noteworthy for me
What was that? It was short but I was surprised when it ended as thought it was only like 15mins gone. Good study music but I will never know why this is an album I need to listen to even despite all the rave reviews on this. It may have some contextual significance but I didn’t hear any of that through the music.
There are some bits where I’m thinking this is decent but I despise the drawling, uncaring vocalist. Put it in the back with the other bored artists.
I can see why they were popular and I prefer this album to the other one I’ve listened to so far.
It’s fine, but I wouldn’t say it stands out from some other pop/electronic albums I’ve listened to.
Honestly this made me appreciate how good Ross Bryant’s impression of Nine Inch Nails was. Very raw and painful but for every track I enjoyed there was one that was overindulgent.
Old school vibes which is an easy listen and think would enjoy it in background. Probably a 3.5 tbh but will rate up because I like the overall sound.
I should like this more based on my previous reviews of rap albums with a jazzy backbeat but this one didn’t hit for me.
Oh the nostalgic synth that makes me want to put on a cheesy smile and bob my head like Jim Carrey in that SNL sketch. Good for 15mins but becomes uniform after that.
Not going to lie, this one made me sleepy, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t engaging for me, probably bc I don’t really like this slow, relaxing type of music.
You know, I was expecting it to be more hard-hitting. There’s no denying Cobain’s unique vocals which matches the grittiness of the guitar and drums but I didn’t find myself enjoying this album as much as I wanted to.
I do enjoy a bit of Costello, I like his high energy and there again seems to be 1 song that I especially enjoy. The only issue is that all the other songs meld into one and I don’t really want to go back to listen to the entirety of the album.
There’s times when the superbly played percussion guitar is complimented by Martyn’s lyrics, like in Man in the Sttion; nevertheless, there are times when I would prefer an instrumental track rather than vocals. Overall enjoyed and I appreciate the instrumentals.
I was waiting for this one to end, it’s instrumental which is fine but being an hour long with only attempts to make it exciting lead to a messy, banal and bland album.
It’s strange, I enjoyed a lot of this album but I can’t really say why. It’s got good tracks but I wouldn’t be able to tell you one that I absolutely loved though.
