Short, snappy and good. But nothing ground breaking. A 3.5 but on the 3 side.

Paul Simon by Paul Simon
Jun 24 2025

Great album top to bottom. I listened to this a couple times and really enjoyed it. Peace Like a River was a standout amongst many standouts.

GREY Area by Little Simz
Jun 25 2025

I enjoyed this. Fresh sounds, solid beats, interesting lyrics. I hadn't heard of this artist before but she is good. I am glad this popped up.

Sulk by The Associates
Jun 26 2025

Not much here to get jazzed up about. It had some OK sounds but a solid 2.5 Will bump it to the three side.

Face to Face by The Kinks
Jun 27 2025

Easy to listen to but nothing really jumped out here. Was hoping for a little more.

Permission to Land by The Darkness
Jun 28 2025

Fun and lively. Some really good tracks. Just on the three side of a 3.5.

Odelay by Beck
Jun 29 2025

Really solid. Not sure why I didn’t give this more of a listen when it came out. Will listen again.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Jul 09 2025

Solid album. I like the Talking Heads sound and this one falls in line with that!

A Wizard, A True Star by Todd Rundgren
Jul 10 2025

Didn’t really enjoy this one. Some Ok sounds but overall not my taste. On the three side of a 2.5.

Cypress Hill by Cypress Hill
Jul 11 2025

Interesting album that was surprisingly easy to listen to.

OK by Talvin Singh
Jul 12 2025

Nothing of much interest here. Not really sure why this is on the list.

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jul 13 2025

Overall a nice album but there were not a lot of standout songs. Really nice voice backed by what sounds like a lot of sadness. Worth the listen and will probably give it another go sometime.

Dare! by The Human League
Jul 14 2025

This one actually grew on me quite a bit. Hear a little bit of some of the bands I like now (think Interpol, LCD Soundsystem) in the music. A couple better tracks near the end. Inched towards a 4 but on the 3 side of a 3.5.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Jul 15 2025

Cool, funky and interesting with some really great tracks sprinkled in. Not surprising that many other bands I like have been influenced by them. Solid album that I have already listened to again.

Viva Hate by Morrissey
Jul 16 2025

This one was engaging. It is difficult to pinpoint exactly but it drew me in and I wanted to keep listening. The voice and the music matched well. Not a lot of real stand out songs but an overall good listen. on the 4 side of a 3.5.

Life Thru A Lens by Robbie Williams
Jul 17 2025

Pretty fluffy but quite a few catchy tracks. Definitely liked this more than I expected. Don’t think I will be going back but “Let me Entertain You” slaps. Straight 3.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Jul 18 2025

Everytime Coldplay comes up I try to clear my mind and give them the benefit of the doubt. This is a perfectly listenable album. The first song actually starts quite nicely. I understand that Yellow was a huge hit. I get how people can like Coldplay. I just dont like Chris Martin's voice. When I hear him sing I want to punch him in the throat so that I don't have to listen to him sing anymore. For me this is a 2.5. I will round it up because it is probably not as bad as it sounds to me.

The Band by The Band
Jul 19 2025

Really great album both musically and lyrically. Interesting lyrical themes and a deep layering in the instrumentation. Some really great tracks here too. This is a classic album for me. Waffling on a 4 or a 5. Going to say the 5 side of a 4.5.

System Of A Down by System Of A Down
Jul 20 2025

Loud, energetic and heavy. Musically interesting, but vocally not my style. Was worth a listen but isn't likely to pull me back. 3.

The Coral by The Coral
Jul 21 2025

Some nice sounds and many of the songs couls easily fit on the playlists I listen to. However, I felt that a lot of the songs gave of an air of self importance, bordering on arrogance that the quiality of the product didn't warrant. I dodnt think this one is for me. 2.5 but will round up to 3.

The Modern Dance by Pere Ubu
Jul 22 2025

Musically interesing and energetic. There is a vague familiarity to a lot of the songs. Not in the sense that I have heard them before, but rather that they are like songs I have heard before. I enjoyed the music more than the vocals and the lyrics but there was a little something here. 3.5.

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Jul 23 2025

Solid album but I never get as excited about the Smiths as I think I am going to. The album was interesting and easy to listen to but lacked a little bit of energy and the stand out tracks that I would want to give it a higher rating. 3.5 but going to round down.

Talking Timbuktu by Ali Farka Touré
Jul 24 2025

Super chill and easy to listen to. However, no real draw and not a lot to say about this one.

Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
Jul 25 2025

To me there is nothing redeeming here. Not worth the first listen let alone another.

Melody A.M. by Röyksopp
Jul 26 2025

Pretty boring. This got me moving in a couple spots but not really much there. Pit it on the three side of a 2.5.

Private Dancer by Tina Turner
Jul 27 2025

This was a worthy listen with a couple recognizable songs. But her voice was superior to the craftsmanship of the songs. Not a great album here but a decent one.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Jul 28 2025

Really great album. Interesting and easy to listen to beats. Clever and interesting lyrics. This is not my usual genre but It left me wanting to listen more. I was dancing along. Top notch. 5.

Traffic by Traffic
Jul 29 2025

Pretty meh. Some classic sounds of the era. “Feelin Alright” is a standout but not a lot to get excited about here.

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Jul 30 2025

Solid album. Fresh and interesting sound with good lyrics and good energy. Had I not just listened to the Tribe album a couple days ago this may have gotten a 5. Will put this on the 4 side of a 4.5.

Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Jul 31 2025

Didn't seem interesting or original. The vocals seemed to be an Elvis rip-off at times. This is one of many where I am not sure how they made this list.

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Aug 02 2025

Maybe it’s the vacation boost but this slapped. Charles was dancing along. I enjoyed this front to back and listened though a second time. 4.5 but on the 5 side.

Phrenology by The Roots
Aug 03 2025

Raw, energetic and well done. I enjoyed this one. Hadn’t really listened to the Roots before but this one is a good one. 4.5 but on the 4 side.

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
Aug 05 2025

Great album. Raw, authentic, and lots of great energy into a 35 minute package. I don’t listen to Johnny Cash a lot, and hadn’t listened to this album, before, but I always enjoy him. No wasted energy here. 5

Blood And Chocolate by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Aug 06 2025

Good album. Lots of really solid and interesting songs. Was listening while driving so not the best audio and a bit distracted. But went through twice and really enjoyed.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Aug 08 2025

Excellent album. Raw, emotional, but controlled. No wasted songs and really great lyrics. Loved this when it came out and realize now I didn’t understand it at all at the time.

The Colour Of Spring by Talk Talk
Aug 15 2025

Meh. Listened to this a couple days ago and have already forgotten. Nothing to warrant a revisit.

Done By The Forces Of Nature by Jungle Brothers
Aug 18 2025

Proof the not all 80s and 90s hip hop is a must listen. This was OK but no really grit or anything to make it interesting.

The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips
Aug 20 2025

When I clicked on this I read "Velvet Underground" in my head rather than "Flaming Lips". As a result I was quite surprised at the sound. Once I came to and got over that, I enjoyed this a fair amount. Melodic and poppy with a couple standout tracks ("Waitin' for A Superman" is one). A worthy listen and enjoying more the second time. 3.5 but let’s go 4 side.

Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
Aug 22 2025

Solid album with some really melodic sounds. I enjoyed his voice and there are some really good and recognizable tracks. Haven’t really listened to Stevie before but this is a solid one.

Kala by M.I.A.
Aug 24 2025

Really solid album. Cacophonous and unique. Some solid tracks and no wasted space. 4.5 but on the 4 side.

Feast of Wire by Calexico
Aug 26 2025

Genre appropriate for what I like. But no wow factor here. This was OK, and a worthy listen, but didn’t get me overly excited.

Midnight Ride by Paul Revere & The Raiders
Aug 27 2025

Didn't recognize the band name but I recognized a good number of the songs. There were some really great tracks and the whole album holds together. I enjoyed this one, maybe more than I should have, but definitely a worthy listen.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Aug 28 2025

This one was a little slow to be honest. Good music sound and the vocals and lyrics you would expect. But lacked a bit of energy and standout tracks.

Bert Jansch by Bert Jansch
Aug 29 2025

Yeah, this was alright. Interesting guitar and a nice voice. Pretty chill but nothing really stood out for me.

Entertainment by Gang Of Four
Aug 30 2025

I enjoyed this. A solid listen but without a real wow factor. Likely influential on some of the bands I regularly listen to. 3.5 but on the three side.

The Slider by T. Rex
Aug 31 2025

I really enjoyed this - much like Electric Warrior. The sound was unique, as were the vocals. There is lots of energy and the tracks are engaging. I listened twice through and there were some standouts - "Rock On", "Ballrooms of Mars". 4.5 but on the 4 side. Will listen again.

Raw Power by The Stooges
Sep 01 2025

Lots of energey here - but I didnt engage with this one. I listened trhough twice and there was just something missing for me. 3.5.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Sep 04 2025

Solid album. Interesting and rockin. Janis is great.

Sep 06 2025

This was fine. Not really a cohesive album per se but a number of decent tracks. I liked it but not a lot of extra interest.

Mott by Mott The Hoople
Sep 07 2025

This was a perfectly fine album. Had heard of the band but had never listened before. If one of the songs showed up on a playlist you wouldn’t skip track but you also wouldn’t pause in amazement.

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Sep 08 2025

There were a couple standout tracks and I enjoyed the front to back listen. Better than a lot of the English bands on the list from that time frame.

The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy
Sep 09 2025

Listened to it once and then most of it a second time. This was solid. Energetic but not over the top. Some standout tracks. There is a little nostalgia factor here as my brother had this album when we were kids. 3.5 but on the 4 side.

Sep 10 2025

There wasn't a doubt before listening where this one was going to land but alwayd great to be reminded to listen to Nirvana. Great album with a really interesting mix of originals and covers. I enjoy the banter between songs each time. A definite 5.

Dub Housing by Pere Ubu
Sep 11 2025

I found this interesting and I was in the right mood for the listen. However, in reflection I am unlikely to pick this up and listen again. Likely an ancestor of some of the music I enjoy more. 3.5 but on the three side.

Hejira by Joni Mitchell
Sep 17 2025

I liked this one. Playful and interesting and Joni is great. Not a lot of real "star" songs but a good listen start to finish.

The Rolling Stones by The Rolling Stones
Sep 21 2025

Presented as a 60's rock cover album. It was a worth 33 minute listen but didn't get me too excited. Some signs of things to come but on its own a 3 for me.

Giant Steps by The Boo Radleys
Sep 22 2025

This album was fine for a listen but it didn’t get me too excited. Solid three out of 5.

Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors

I feel like I should have found this one more interesting. But it really didn’t catch me. Fine as a listen but wasn’t intrigued for more.

Sep 25 2025

I suppose this was interesting. But I am not sure there is a circumstance where I would listen again.

Meh. The songs were fine and it was worth a listen but not that interesting or inspiring.

Coles Corner by Richard Hawley
Sep 27 2025

Pretty mellow and a little boring.

Sep 28 2025

This is good stuff. Really easy to listen to. Good voice, and some Beatles-esque sounds. Surprisingly good actually.

This is excellent. Top notch sound by a pioneer band. Love it. 4 side of a 4.5.

Achtung Baby by U2
Oct 02 2025

Didn’t think I would see the day. This is actually a solid album with a lot of recognizable songs. I enjoyed this. 3.5 but in the 4 side.

Sex Packets by Digital Underground
Oct 03 2025

I found this album unserious and uninteresting. There was not much to redeem this one. I listened though but not necessarily glad I did.

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Oct 04 2025

Solid album. I haven’t listened to much Alice in Chains but hear it on the radio a fair bit. This whole album was quite good.

Justified by Justin Timberlake

Oct 18 2025

Some interesting songs and musically pretty decent. But didn’t really get the blood flowing.

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Oct 20 2025

Very good album. Interesting concept and a lot of good songs. Suppose it warrants a 5. But not likely a spot in the regular rotation.

Smash by The Offspring
Oct 21 2025

This was the first CD I ever bought. I still really enjoy this album but its ranking is almost certainly bumped by nostalgia factor. I think I am willing to now admit Dookie was the better album but this still holds up. 4.5

Let England Shake by PJ Harvey
Oct 22 2025

This one didn’t grab me like her others. It was a good listen but nothing more.

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Oct 23 2025

Willie singing covers of old classics. I wouldn’t say that there was a lot of value add. It was a nice listen but not a great album.

This album is exceptional. Keeps going from start to finish with great song after great song. I enjoyed this a lot.

The Blueprint by JAY Z
Oct 26 2025

Exile In Guyville by Liz Phair
Oct 27 2025

My first thought was a poor man’s PJ Harvey but then this continued to grow on me. Really solid album with some interesting tacks.

Nov 08 2025

This was alright. Worth a listen and some nice vocals. Not sure it warrants a repeat though.

Superunknown by Soundgarden

Really solid album with a number of really great songs. Chris Cornell is a legend and he is at peak on this one. More than a 4 but not a 5.

Murder Ballads by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Nov 10 2025

This was caught somewhere between Tom Waits and Modest Mouse but didn’t seem to capture the best of either for me. A bit of a strange concept album that came off a little strange. An OK listen but I was hoping for more.

Jan 11 2026

Some interesting sounds. I don’t understand the lyrics but worth a listen.

The Rising by Bruce Springsteen
Jan 23 2026

Love this album. It has some fun, some heart and the classic Americana rock you expect from The Boss. I bought this album in 2002 saw Springsteen for the first time on this tour. This album builds as it goes along and holds up. I am glad it does. 4.5 but tip to 5 on nostalgia.

Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
