0/16 and I can confidently say this was the worst album I’ve ever listened to. Bless whoever gets this next

A quintessential album for the rock genre, and I’ve held off listening to it because I knew it was on here. I wish I could give it a 4.5 but I reserve my 5’s. Amazing regardless

How is this on here? I could’ve gone forever without listening to any of this
Songhoy Blues · 4 likes

Every week doing this I’m reminded that a lot of the albums generated on here just don’t fit the bill of “NEED” to hear before you die. Like, no. I respect this type of music and I’m sure it’s good to people who can understand the lyrics but like, no enjoyment unfortunately. Didn’t understand a word

Not my kind of music, I guess. But don’t really see how anyone would enjoy this. Oh well
Dizzee Rascal

0/15 honestly. Couldn’t get into it and it was just all over the place tbh. Not a good one.
Christina Aguilera
2/5
6/20 songs added to playlist and it actually wasn’t terrible just not my taste. I can understand if someone actually fucks with it. Not me tho. Didn’t have a favorite track, I liked all the ones that I added equally for the first time.
Miles Davis
1/5
Definitely liked the vibes this album brought. Don’t think it was for me though, didn’t end up adding either to the playlist but for 38 minutes it was a good time.
John Coltrane
1/5
Back to back days getting straight jazz albums and while I won’t rate this high at all, it won’t be as bad as I rate it. I just don’t think this type of music is for me. Fwiw, I enjoyed listening to it but imo, there is zero replayability for me personally here.
Youssou N'Dour
1/5
trust me, this is not an album you need to hear before you die.
Madonna

Eagles
4/5
actually really did like this project. Ended up adding 6 of these songs to my playlist so there’s that. Highest one I’ll have rated on this website this far
Orange Juice
1/5
Only added Louise Louise to the playlist, wasn’t great. Not for me.
Roxy Music
1/5
Sheesh. Terrible. Dreaded every minute of each song.
Ray Charles
2/5
Wasn’t the worst & wasn’t the best but ended up adding a few to the playlist so there’s that.
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
Ended up liking this album more than I’d thought going into it, pretty good listen.
The Velvet Underground
1/5
Didn’t like it, not for me. One song was pretty good but the entire album itself was pretty bad.
Eminem
4/5
So glad I was able to get this one. Loved this album & has so much replayability unlike some of his others. Obviously listened to this before but gave me an excuse to listen again and im not complaining.
Pretenders
1/5
Brass in Pocket was a really good song and that was the only good song. Wish I could say I liked it but 20+ songs later and i definitely was waiting for it to end.
Brian Eno
1/5
What the fuck did I just listen to. Waste of time.
John Lennon
3/5
Pretty decent album, can’t lie. Had a fun time with it. Wasn’t the best but definitely was refreshing to get an album on here I could actually enjoy for some time.
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
Great fucking album. Had previously heard some music from A Tribe Called Quest but never really had the chance to do a discography dive into their work. Glad this site gave me a reason to listen to more.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Didn’t hate this one, definitely prefer more of his other work but this one wasn’t too bad. Added a few to the playlist so I came away respecting it
Paul Simon
2/5
Not a bad album, added a few to my playlist, but can’t see myself going back to most of the other songs any time soon or ever honestly. Good sound though.
The Divine Comedy
1/5
Not great. Didn’t like really any songs. Not for me I guess
B.B. King
1/5
Honestly, it’s a really good live show, the vibes are immaculate but I personally rate these albums based off of if I’d come back and listen again, some songs have made their way into my playlists and listening rotations and unfortunately none of these were really my vibe. It feels weird to rate this anything low because it’s good for social standard but not my personal cup of tea.
Muddy Waters
1/5
need a bit of a break from live blues albums lol, not bad just not my taste.
Brian Eno
1/5
Had a hard time getting into this one, unfortunately not great.
Amy Winehouse
1/5
Honestly not the worst so I can’t give this a one star, but didn’t personally love most of the songs. Really good voice just not my type of music I guess
William Orbit
1/5
I refuse to believe people actually find this good. It Was supposedly banned from my region on Apple Music so I had to listen to the entire album on YouTube where the comments hyped it up. Clearly in the minority? It’s not good
Jimi Hendrix
1/5
I refuse to believe people actually find this good. It Was supposedly banned from my region on Apple Music so I had to listen to the entire album on YouTube where the comments hyped it up. Clearly in the minority? It’s not good
AC/DC

The Strokes
3/5
Can’t complain, album was actually pretty good. Good vibes. Ended up liking quite a few and can see myself coming back.
Paul Simon
4/5
I got another Paul Simon album about 2 weeks ago and I really loved the sound, the vibe, his voice is great, but I didn’t personally like most songs. I was glad to get him again and my eyes have been opened here, this album is great. The first 6 songs are just great & hoping for more of him down the line.
1/5
Not good, didn’t like
Jefferson Airplane
1/5
Was not a big fan of this one. Not too good imho.
The Auteurs
1/5
not one song on here was that good
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
not one song on here was that good
Crosby, Stills & Nash
3/5
Lowkey the album progressively got better as I listened but I wasn’t a big fan of the work. 3 stars seems correct here. Some songs I just couldn’t stand the multi voice verses.
Fugees
3/5
Can’t go wrong with Lauryn Hill. Obviously heard this before but another chance to listen to it, hell yeah
Pet Shop Boys
1/5
and I was on such a good streak of albums, this one was shit. didn’t like one single song
The Young Gods
1/5
Fucking shit
Eminem
4/5
cmon now it’s Eminem. Album so good, got another listen out of it which is always nice
Spiritualized
1/5
I cant believe, absolutely refuse to believe that people think this is good
Jerry Lee Lewis
1/5
For me personally, I really only like to listen to live albums when I go into it knowing I like the artists music, I also never know how to rate live albums because I’m sure this guy has decent songs, I just didn’t like the live versions of it all. Wanted to like it more but honestly didn’t, this was like my 5th live album that I didn’t really enjoy much so I’m a bit more excited for the first live album I do like
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
2/5
Lowkey good for what it was, good sound I just didn’t really find myself thinking I’d wanna come back to most of these songs. The best on this album were really good but the worst were just average at best. I can’t rate this a 3 but it’s a high 2 in my opinion. Using this website has helped me realize what a true 1/5 star album is & this was not one.
The Black Keys
2/5
Wasn’t the worst. Wasn’t the best. Liked a few & didn’t necessarily hate any, high 2 seems reasonable
Pink Floyd
2/5
overrated shit. When can we stop pretending it’s good lol. Was a chore to get through. Though, will say a 1 is too low because this wasn’t the worst I’ve heard. Still bad
The Psychedelic Furs
2/5
meh. I can see why people may like it but for me there’s not many songs on here I would willingly choose to come back to. “Pretty In Pink” was awesome but the rest, meh. Some decent. Low 2 for me
Jeff Buckley
4/5
fucking brilliant
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
1/5
Well that was a terrible album, some of these I really question if they stay true to the topic of 1001 albums you ‘need’ to see before you die.
The Cure
1/5
Not even sure what it is I’ve just listened to but it’s terrible
The Verve
1/5
Not any good tbh. Can see why people like it, but not for me
Arcade Fire
2/5
honestly not too bad, was okay. Higher 2 I’d say.
The Slits
1/5
Dogshit. This was terrible on all counts.
Mott The Hoople
1/5
Mehhh. Not the worst one star of course but alas, still a one star
Van Halen
2/5
Had a good time with this one. High 2, good switch up from what I’ve had the past few days. Always loved Van Halen but obviously imo not his greatest work. Still a respectable record.
Janelle Monáe
2/5
High 2 for me, nothing too great but also nothing terrible. so, meh. Couldn’t give it a 3.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
1/5
‘Modern Romance’ is actually really good and I would’ve liked more like it but honestly the album as a whole and really every song outside of that one was very… not good.
Nick Drake
2/5
Wasn’t too bad, song writing was really good and loved his voice. Solid 2 star album for me
Arcade Fire
1/5
good voice just not for me
Yes
1/5
Jeez lol, 46 mins for 6 songs. Yeah it was rough..
PJ Harvey
1/5
Didn’t do it for me 🫠
Lauryn Hill
4/5
let me preface this by saying I love this album & have for a long time but, I think the clear negative or “con” when listening to this album is how much the songs overrun themselves, there’s a lot of songs that don’t have great hooks, continue on for quite some time and it just feels unnecessary and forced. Now there’s so many positives, the amount of great lyrics Lauryn Hill was able to piece together was incredible & some of these songs are classics, I truly love this album & have since I was younger & still find myself coming back to it multiple times a year. We really got robbed of a full discography of hers.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
The Boss, baby. Never fails
Brian Eno
1/5
i recently watched this movie “High Fidelity” about a record shop owner, not the point but, these teens in the movie stuffed Brian Eno records up their shirts and ran away with them and at that time and to this day, I just always wonder: who the fuck is stealing a Brian Eno record.
not surprising in the least. It was terrible. Got a little sad knowing I went from Lauryn Hill & Bruce Springsteen to Brian Eno but for every good, there’s 5 bad on this site. Good luck to whoever gets this next
The Smashing Pumpkins
2/5
The good of this album, I really liked it. When it was good it was great for me. There was a lot of mid to bad songs but that’s just my opinion and I don’t think they were unlistenable bad, just not my type bad. Regardless, I went in not knowing any songs or have listened to any previous album of theirs & came out pretty impressed. High 2, could’ve been a 3 but 2 is fair here.
Iron Maiden
1/5
nah
Beastie Boys
2/5
Never heard the album before & actually enjoyed it tbh. Have to listen to more of them.
Throbbing Gristle
1/5
What in the fuck did I just listen to
Wu-Tang Clan
4/5
Top 10 rap album ever. 😮💨
Manu Chao
1/5
Didn’t understand a word so, idk how to rate it fairly.
Lupe Fiasco
4/5
I actually really loved this one. Had never listened to much of Lupe’s work but I’m glad I got it today & had the chance to do so. Really good album
Happy Mondays
1/5
Interesting..
Simon & Garfunkel
2/5
Really disappointed I didn’t like this one more. Was previously a big fan of past Paul Simon work & headed into this hoping I’d feel the same but only ended up liking a few.
Cowboy Junkies
1/5
Tough listen
Ali Farka Touré
1/5
No clue what was even being said half the time but I’m sure it’s decent if u can understand it
The Cars
3/5
Actually liked it a good amount. Would have to be a low 3 but still a 3 regardless
Morrissey
1/5
Not a fan.
Buffalo Springfield
3/5
I wish so bad I could give it a 3 1/2 because it’s not a 3 but it’s not a 4
Pet Shop Boys
2/5
Suuuuper boring
Elvis Presley
4/5
Actually really loved this one. I don’t listen to Elvis too much, hardly ever. so it was a nice surprise
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
Finally getting some decent albums in a row here, really liked this one.
The Libertines
4/5
Three straight days with a 4 star album gotta be a record for me. Anyway, really liked this one, what Katie did is a masterpiece & Can’t stand me now is amazing too. I liked most of the songs.
Massive Attack
4/5
Honestly really good, added a few of these to the playlist, cool how it was a different voice with each song, only negative was if you really liked one then you weren’t getting many from that person. Overall, good album.
Ride
2/5
Eh, like 2 good songs. Nothing too special here. Sometimes the music was way louder than their voices and it got annoying.
Britney Spears
3/5
Fine, nothing special. Giving a 3 star because I think it’s closer to 3 than 2 stars, not the greatest obviously though.
Jean-Michel Jarre
1/5
Alrighty then
Jethro Tull
1/5
Wasn’t a fan. Idk
Doves
1/5
Sooo boring
Hanoi Rocks
1/5
Couldn’t even access it on Apple Music so had to go on YouTube, gotta love the ads too. Anyway, not a good album. Just no clue how this ended up on this list.
AC/DC
3/5
Preferred Back in Black 1000% more but this one wasn’t too bad. Never was really into the rock genre on a really high level but I respect AC/DC obviously. Not a bad album
Wilco
2/5
Really liked the voice just didn’t find many songs that I was interested in returning to.
The Rolling Stones
2/5
Can’t lie, this is probably one of my least favorites from The Rolling Stones, the album is fucking cool & I don’t hate it but it just wasn’t great for me.
The Mars Volta
1/5
No thanks
The xx
2/5
Just not my favorite honestly. Nice voices but meh.
The Byrds
3/5
Actually had a decent time with this one, not the greatest but, the after the first few songs not doing it for me, it really picked up.
Burning Spear
1/5
Not my favorite honestly.
Kanye West
5/5
You can lie and say this is bad because he’s said bad things but take all that away, listen to this music, and you’ll realize, you’re just lying to yourself because you want to hate. His music still bangs.
Sebadoh
1/5
How is this an album you need to listen to before you die. Proper shit.
Talking Heads
2/5
Wasn’t too bad, didn’t leave with much I’d like to go back to but overall, better than I’d hoped for.
James Taylor
4/5
Woah this was actually really, really good. Surprised by how much I enjoyed this.
Norah Jones
2/5
Not too bad, surprised with how much I ended up liking, had never listened to her prior so didn’t know what to expect.
The Rolling Stones
2/5
Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. A lot of the songs went on for a long time, more than needed. Overall good sound, usually love The Rolling Stones but not this one as much. Oh well, still a good time.
Metallica
1/5
I never really listened to Metallica much growing up so honestly the first full album listen being a live concert kinda sucked, I wish I was able to hear them actually recorded & then the live version. They were good but I didn’t know any of them, so it being live held no value to me. Pretty cool but just not it for me.
Stan Getz
1/5
Well. It was certainly something
Cyndi Lauper
2/5
Actually enjoyed a few songs on here, went in blind and realized 2 really popular songs were on here so there’s that. Not bad. Enjoyable.
Michael Jackson
5/5
It’s been very rare to find albums that actually hold true to the name of being needed to hear before you die but this is one, an absolute classic of an album. Banger after banger.
New Order
3/5
Actually turned out to be a solid album. Had a good time listening to it, I went in with no expectations not having heard them before and I liked it.
Portishead
1/5
So so bad
The Offspring
3/5
Actually had a good time with it, pretty decent album.
The Gun Club
2/5
No songs that make me wanna come back but not the worst. 2 stars for sure.
Songhoy Blues
1/5
Every week doing this I’m reminded that a lot of the albums generated on here just don’t fit the bill of “NEED” to hear before you die. Like, no. I respect this type of music and I’m sure it’s good to people who can understand the lyrics but like, no enjoyment unfortunately. Didn’t understand a word
Shivkumar Sharma
1/5
Bad
Alice Cooper
3/5
Surprisingly really good, liked it.
Billy Bragg
3/5
One of the most hit or miss albums I’ve listened to in a while. I liked a lot of songs but also disliked a lot so I feel like a 3 is fair here. Felt like every time I liked one, I disliked the next one or two. But overall had a good time with it. Never heard of these guys beforehand.
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
Rest in peace to this legend, classic album with a bunch of bangers & music I grew up on. Any less than 4 stars is doing this a disservice
Rocket From The Crypt
1/5
Not good.
Milton Nascimento
1/5
Bad
Beck
2/5
Not bad. Not good. Only ended up adding one to my playlist but some others had good sounds and that’s good enough for a 2 for me!
Neneh Cherry
2/5
Very mid. I didn’t hate most of them necessarily so a 1 star would just be lies but anything higher than a 2 star is also a lie so 2 stars it is.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
Not a bad album! Went in with absolutely no clue who these people were and it wasn’t bad. I enjoyed it. Definitely a high 3. Some of these songs actually got added to the playlist. Really fun.
Pantera
1/5
Boring. Didn’t find any songs even kind of good.

Not good, cool cover tho
50 Cent
4/5
Classic hip hop album, can’t go wrong. No clue how this has a 3 on this site lol
Blur
2/5
Only 2 stars because it’s not as bad as the ones I rated one star, still not good
David Bowie
1/5
Never could get into Bowie, another rough listen here.
Neil Young
3/5
Always loved his voice, glad this gave me a chance to listen to an album I hadn’t previously heard about
Cee Lo Green

Deee-Lite
2/5
Not the worst but nowhere near good either.
The KLF
1/5
Quite boring.
Sex Pistols
1/5
Boring
Radiohead
4/5
I will say, I’ve never actually gotten around to ever listening to more than 2-3 Radiohead songs due to the ones I heard not being my cup of tea. But this album was great and I can understand the hype now. Will listen more
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Good album for the most part. Usually like Rolling Stones, this one wasn’t GREAT. But it was good. So, 3 stars seems fair.
John Martyn
2/5
Two good songs
Nine Inch Nails
1/5
Boring
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Not terrible, enjoyed it actually.
Sly & The Family Stone
2/5

Moby
2/5
Just alright
Bob Dylan
4/5
Beautiful album. One of my favorite songs ever belong to this album. Tho there are 2 I really can’t force myself to get into. The only thing holding this from a true 5 star album. 4 1/2 if I could.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Always love the Elvis albums they give me
Various Artists
4/5
I feel like rating this anything less than 4 stars is just hating Christmas. 5 stars is reserved for my absolute favorites but this was a fun time. Merry Christmas! 🎄

Quite mid
Alanis Morissette
3/5
Had some bangers. Had some mid
Paul Weller

Unfortunately, some songs didn’t age great for me and I just couldn’t find myself liking as much as I used to (very few still) so this is not a 5 star but still an absolute classic anyone wanting to get into music or hip hop should give a listen. Perhaps the greatest double album ever

Elliott Smith

Oh my God this is awful LMAO. Why are we pretending this is good or even decent? This is unbearable. I haven’t listened to much Leonard Cohen but sheesh, awful. It’s literally just music in the background of a dude with a deep ass voice talking. Like reading a book with some music in the back. TERRIBLE. Definitely top 2 of top 2 worst I’ve gotten

Okay and that’s as good as a Robbie Williams album will get but that’s fine. Decent work, nothing too awful, or special.
Kendrick Lamar
5/5
Generational performances. Not even my favorite Kendrick but deserving of a 5 star nonetheless. I always point out how my rating system could benefit from half stars & this is a case where I think I’d give it a 4.5 if able, but a 5 is also fair so honestly it’s deserving.

Feels like you’re truly there.

But I’m stuck in one of those really awful streaks right now where I feel like for at least 30 days I haven’t had a truly great album. Dunno. Please start coming through, it’s starting to feel like a pain to listen to these albums when they’re supposed to be recognized as some of the best ever,
Had good hope for this one, I love alternative. But just another album that didn’t do it for me, not awful, so didn’t mean to take my misery out on this album, but I seriously hope tomorrow is a good album.
