Reviews (page 8 of 8)
Boring, flat.
I'm currently four songs in and I'm ridiculously bored. I've heard no change in just over ten minutes. It's very slow, very monotonous, and very boring. Seven tracks done now. There seems to be a slight country vibe on this one. Still bored though. I want this to be over. If I don't finish this review, send for help. Track ten now and the first half is a capella. I fear I might not make it to the end. Last track and I've made it. I feel relief that it's over. In all seriousness, a few tracks did stand out. 'The Ocean' had a nice orchestral sound and built itself up nicely before fading out. 'Tonight' was actually quite a beautiful track and Hawley's voice fits this one the best. 'Last Orders' the closing track is an ambient, atmospheric tune with a lovely piano. This is a bit of a snoozefest. It's not bad and it doesn't hurt my ears, but it's definitely boring. Three tracks out of eleven isn't good enough. I'd describe it as "forgettably pleasant'.
Lounge act snooze fest, apparently it’s from a bassist from a Britpop band so that’s why it’s on the list?
This.was.soooo.boring. Could be used in black sites for torture.
I see that Richard is still touring. There seem to be people who appreciate him. I am not one of them. This music is completely forgettable.
Fuck off. I was listening to this and the whole time, I couldn't believe it wasn't over already. It was the longest 45 minutes of my life, it just kept going. I kept waiting for a fast paced song to crop up to liven the mood and it never arrived. Waters of my Time was fucking dreadful and reminded me of Beautiful Tonight by Eric Clapton; a song I also hate. It's so boring. It's too croony. I hate his voice, it's way too dated for my liking. I will never listen to this again. I was so tempted to stop this half way through, I hated it that much. I liked the last song but only because he didn't sing over it. Never again.
Boring
Didn't have any expectations going into this one. Didn't read the wiki article either. Plain pipe rack / bog standard crooner album. Frank Sinatra, but milder. Its fine, it's just fine. Not something I love, nor something I'd follow up on. But no issue with it. My biggest disappointment? The Ocean and Born Under a Bad Sign weren't fun covers, just Hawley songs that had the same title as other songs that I'd be more interested in hearing covers of. Sigh, I guess it's just another week of mostly weird albums to suffer through.
1st track: man this is dull, skip. 2nd track: what, same again? 3rd track: no. Just no. I'm not going to subject myself to the rest of the album. There's too much good music out there to play this through.
No.
The wife did not like it (and I thought it was a little too much Charles Aznavour
The less I paid attention the more I liked it.
Maybe I'm just not feeling this today, but I hated this. It's just a version of things that have been done better 100s of times before. It sounds like some average talent musician in a coffee shop or winery. It commits the worst sin in the arts... it's boring. This is the first record I've gotten where I have no clue why I would need to hear this before I die.
I don't think I'd want to hang around this corner for too long. Stone Coles Shit.
Tepid. Vanilla. Drowsy.
Is deze man vergeten dat deze muziek 70 jaar geleden al gemaakt is? Tergend gedateerd.
I couldn't finish it. I was surprised this was recorded in 2005 and the singer isn't much older than me. Sounds like something my mother-in-law would enjoy.
zu ruhig, zu melancholisch
This was just awful
A crap leonard cohen, maybe a bit harsh but didnt see why this needed to be listened at!
Why?
Underwhelming Chamber Pop. Wouldn't listen again.
Nah
Really left me depressed after listening to this.
Woof. Maybe if I were in a better mood, or if this was dated 50 years earlier, I'd give it a 2 and say it's simply not my jam. I started skipping on track 2, listened to a few seconds of each, found them to all basically sound the same, and got the fuck out. No thanks. I'm sure this works for some people, but it ain't me.
Oof, couldn't even finish it.
I had to make sure Spotify wasn’t accidentally looping the same song
Oh my God this is one of the most fucking boring albums I have ever listened to. I listened to this while quite hungover so as soon as I pressed play on the first song I thought "perfect, exactly what I need right now". But little did I know that's all this album would be, all the way through. There are plenty of amazing chill albums to listen to while hungover, but what they all have in common is that while still remaining super calm, they keep the music interesting. This album fails so hard at remaining interesting that it's almost funny. Normally, albums that are boring but inoffensive would receive a 2/5, but this album stretches the meaning of the word "boring" to realms I thought were never possible. And for that it gets a 1/5 from me.
Cool 😎
Not my style
Terrible. Started skipping around after track 2 and stopped listening quickly.
bla bla bla singer songwriter mellow musician folky tunes bla bla bla it feels like ive listened to every single of the songs in this album a billion times, made by different smingmer smongwrimters in different times with different instruments. but somehow they make the same shit time and time again Significant 30/91 Liked 14/91 Added 4/91 NNN
Gear: Hifiman Arya Mische: Streicher aus der Konserve, alles generisch und ohne Tiefgang Mugge: klingt wie ein schlechter Christmas Sampler, fade Hölle Wertung: 1/5
Cat says bad
Boring and British indie. Ugh
I absolutely didn't need to hear this album before I died. And I feel like lounge singer was already covered by previous generations.
Put me to sleep.
Why am I being made to listen to this? So non-descript, no edge, no personality.
1.5
Possibly the best Christmas music I’ve heard, but still Christmas music…
Sucks balls
Ich habe keine Zeit mehr für mehr unteres britisches Mittelmaß. Sentimentaler letztes Drittel des Lebens-Country. Der Sänger trifft ungefähr die Hälfte der Töne.
Ugh. Hated it
Fell asleep
Total snooze fest. Didn't even realize it was over for half an hour.
The least classic album
A primitive, underwhelming effort (or absence thereof), that's as rife with cliches, as it is with it's lack of ambition. This album sounds more like a phoned in contractual obligation to a record label than an output of creative expression. F
Latte alle ginocchiaaaa
Slow and lumbering. Like the worst Christmas album, without any of the jingles, that someone puts on in August
Elvis if he wasn't as good and only did bad country
A lifeless blob of an album.
Not sure why this was made, let alone what it is doing in the book. Made 50 years and 10,000km away from when and where it should be.
Super, super langweilig
Why was this album included on a must listen list? Its so aggressively mediocre it hurts. Why. 1/5
I was optimistic when I saw that Richard Hawley is the guitarist for Pulp, who I like. So, I was expecting a more interesting, upbeat album but this one just really fell flat for me. Not many standouts at all but not offensively bad either, just king of boring to me. Curious to know why the creators of this list felt that this belonged on here, considering I feel like this album is pretty derivative and there are plenty of albums that do this similar type of music better or before this album. Standout Tracks: I Sleep Alone
Ok this wasn’t objectively bad but I am not sure why it was on here. The ocean was pretty good but overall this album was not memorable.
Next plz
Did not enjoy. Stylistically, it was all over the place. I feel like this site is just messing with me now.
Pleasant enough, and competently made. Not for me at all. Highlights: Just Like the Rain, Last Orders. Couldn't listen to: Who's Going to Shoe Your Pretty Feet.
Not for me.
"You don't have Frank Sinatra records? I'll make my own Frank Sinatra record, then!" -- Richard Hawley probably

This album is fantastic.... at putting me to sleep.
Sometimes it sounds like classic country, sometimes like mood music for a romantic comedy. At no time does it sound interesting to me.
Not a at all for me... actually might be my least favorite kind of music after country. It's chill but not my kind of chill.
Not really into this genre of music
