Prince is one of those artist for me that I feel like I'm obliged to like, but I just dont. I feel like I should be walking around jerking all over the place whilst striking various poses. nope, not for me
Really enjoyed this. Feel like I missed Bob Dylan in my earlier years even though he was well before my time. Seems like I connect with the older stuff but I think that the same for everyone ; ) Love Hurricane even though not on this album
Have listened before Cant quite get it Seems to get better the more I listen
first 5 seconds great and then the rest too Good to run too Like a greatest hits
used to listen to it but tastes have changed over 30 years
had to give it up, not for me apart from the bit of nostalgia
need to be on psychedelics to enjoy I think
It's Soul. As always great when I start listing to it but then gets a bit much. But that's on me and not Otis.
quite enjoyed that and artist that likely passed me by a bit Seem to like him more the more I listen to him
46 year old white male, hard for me to relate. Just not for me.
wont search it out very folky, bit too much for me but not terrible
target age but the bug never bit. Although I normally really like the Manchester crowed
I know I should like it and as time goes on I do more so. But it's pretty depressing
really enjoyed that, definitely adding to the list
Really enjoyed this. Feel like I missed Bob Dylan in my earlier years even though he was well before my time. Seems like I connect with the older stuff but I think that the same for everyone ; ) Love Hurricane even though not on this album
It grows on me the more I listen Great and funny lyrics from a complicated person. Was going to be a 3 but over time im sure will be a 4
I like it but I like other SOAD albums more
yes/no - definitely from my generation so it triggers something there, but normally not a fan of punk/pop/rock
once again, 47 white male. Not the target. but I can see how it would be good
reminds me of Violent Femmes, but I guess I didn't hear it at that time of my life so dont have the connection. Wouldn't search it out but can see how it resonates with people
Wicked beats, and the title track had me hoping for a new find but then R&B and that just dont grab me. The beginning had me thinking this was going to be more like Jamiroquai - but it wasn't.
well the concept is pretty off putting, so chose not to listen that much
wouldn't search it out, wouldn't change the channel
solid 3 from me. Few songs that I didn't realize came from CS&N. Part of an era .
bucks the worrying trend where it looked like I couldn't 'get' rap music. This one ticks the box for me as in that I will definitely want to go back to it again. Kinda passed me buy in my youth (living in SA) , but I like it.
I like Jamiroquai, I just like his other albums more
This is my 'first' album. Does that factor into the score , probably, do I care, not really.
yeah was ok. I liked it will I remember it?
I like it, will definitely go back to it
I like it, I like it a lot.
Nothing against it, but not for me.
The more I listen to Neil Young the more I like him. Haven't listened that much - yet
listened to the first track for a bit, thought I'd skip forward a bit to see what the rest is like. Nearly gave it a complete no, but then Prom came along which was ok (for me) Couple more tracks - then decided no, to much other good stuff to listen to in this world
Started strong for me but wasn't sustained.
such a pleasure to have a break from the constant Greatest Hits that one is normally exposed to, even though there are a few on this album. A few songs that really caught my off guard in a positive way. Sick of Bohemian Rhapsody though
prefer his new (when he was older) stuff
Would get a 5 just based on the opening guitar riff. Classic album for me
I steer away from melancholy and haven't listened to this for a long time. But a great revisit. One of those albums that takes me back to a time and place earlier in life - the dreary UK ; )
nah, was expecting something else could be The Beatles
confirmed for me that I wouldn't search then out, but can see why some people get off on them
can't listen to it, too experimental for me
So hard for me to rate as there are such classics on here (Nothing Else Matters) but while I like metal, I dont like all of Metallica I couldn't sit through the whole album in one go so has to be a 2, even though some amazing songs
was going to be a 3 but landed on 4
Some catchy tunes that are always good to go back to. Go check out the video for "All is full of love" if you haven't seen it yet (different album though)
Remember when this hit in the pre streaming days and so was a bit harder to just give a listen without buying it. Listening to a few tracks in the CD shop didn't do it justice as I feel it needs a few solid sessions before it becomes ingrained. I didn't 'get it' back then but it has become a stable that I return to quite often nowadays. sits somewhere between a 3 and 4 for me listened to is on a plane just last week
Boarder line 2 until a few trackers came through in the end
A 4 as you like some of their other albums more. Good stuff though
Enjoyed it but don’t know if I would seek out. Still gets a 4 because clearly it is good
Thought it was going to be better but hasn’t aged that well
I can’t stand the opening but it got better with time. But not much
New discovery for me and loved it. Need to make sure I go back to it
Better than I remember, but you might have been biased back then
One of those that I thought I'd like, asi think you're supposed to, but I didn't
Fuck there's a lot going on here. I dont pick up much on lyrics but the music hooked me after I initially thought "No". But then reading up on the album on Wikipedia I now feel I need to go through the lyrics. Needs a full re-listen again
Metalica just ain't for me. Apart from the odd song
what's not to like, still can't believe I missed a chance to see him live
Lked it more than I thought I would.
Well it's got to be a 5 doesn't it? But I wonder in some small way what score I would have given this had I heard if for the first time. It may still have been a 5 or more likely a 4, but I will never know.
maybe just didn't feel like it. Have always thought the singers voice odd
not ,my jam
An enjoyable listen. Not my time but great Xmas music
hard this one as some of it is really just repeats, but some repeats are oh so good. the good is a solid 4, but some of the tracks bring it down a bit. Seems like some isolated DJ tracks which bout be better in the sum of their parts which is when they shine.
Punk Rick normally lands up aggravating me but the Offspring has a special place in my late teenage bones
have a feeling I would have liked it had I had the time to listen properly
I seem to have a mental block to The Beatles. Don't know why as like plenty of older music.
Man that snuck up on me. Was expecting something completely different (Fleet Foxes) so had it on in the background just so that I could say I'd listened to it. It caught my ear and so switched to headphones. Fantastic stuff, not quite a 5 yet but over time could become one for me.
Sounds like at mix between Rodriguez (at least one song) and Jim Croze. Both of these would likley get a 5 from me. I enjoyed the record but have no connection to it which I think brings it down a bit for me. Had it part of my formative years I would see it as rating higher.
I can see how I should like this more but I think its one of those time and place albums. Maybe if I was a bit older (or around) in those days and had an older bother constantly playing it, forcing it into my brain then it would get a 5. But I struggle to listen to full album now. So its a 3 for me.
More Tom Petty
Nearly skipped it but actually enjoyed it. Not likely to search out again
I have heard so much Elton John, but for some reason limited to the his Greatest hits, likely due to the huge catalog that he has. Refreshing to listen the an album and a few new discoveries. Not sure if I would seek out again but if I want some Elton, then I'll put on an album in future. Also great to hear Candle in the Wind for who it was originally intended.
Prince is one of those artist for me that I feel like I'm obliged to like, but I just dont. I feel like I should be walking around jerking all over the place whilst striking various poses. nope, not for me
Was going to be a 3 as in yeah nice but it didn't grab me. Currently on my 4th repeat playthrough and happy to let it just keep washing over me. Great album. A new artist for me to look into.
I don't know, seems like a bunch of mates are singing songs together. Maybe if I had been in a different mode
Its not the way I know Leonard, but his earlier albums sound to me like he has been on the helium. Later albums would get 4 or 5 stars
Seem like the algorithm picked up that I like the last Nick Cave album that came up (The Boatman's call). This too is good, although desolate as hell - but with a title like that what was I expecting? Hard times for Mr Cave with another of his sons recently having passed away. The man is already in a dark spot so can only think where this will take him
Enjoyable - hell yeah. Will I go back to it again, probably not. Then again start any album with Blueberry Hill and you've got a strong start. So much better than some of the crap we get nowadays, but I guess the crap from yesteryear doesn't make it to this list.
I am partial to this genre of music. This wasn't stand out for me but I suspect that has more to do with not being familiar with it. However I can't see myself going back to it.
dint feel like it today but landed up listening to most of it anyway
I normally glaze over when the Beatles come up, but I have to say the start of Come Together did hook me But I still have that mental block on the Beatles - for me a 3 as I dont hate it but but I ever choose it? I know it's a classic, but its not for me
I always had an aversion to Santana due to his collaboration with Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20) which never sat right with me. But due to exposure from my father-in-law my ears have been more open to it. Was pleasantly surprised with listening through on this album.
Never listened before apart from what makes the radio. Definitely need to go back to some great songs that dont make the public playlists
feels like I'm in the South somewhere and have stumbled across some black magic fuckery. Problem is I'm not much into that so its a 2 for me. Don't hate it but wont ever go back to it again
So this must have been defining for me as 10 year old. My taste has changed but some classic tracks on here. The stuff I dont know I can pass on but good is great.
some funky stuff but in the end it's soft rock. You know what you getting, and it doesn't excite me.
The interesting thing is that had this been live in some roadside bar, with one too may Jack Daniels in me, it would have been a strong 5 for me, and a night to always remember. Unfortunately I'm on headphones and its just not the right enviroment.
Cool band name. I gave up after the 3rd song, and that after skipping the first 2.
Was pleasantly surprised with the first track, but then it turned into what I was expecting
A lesson in humility for me. I was ready to pan this album on the first track (be be be dodedo, tooot , bebadap bob - well that's what is sounded like to me) Second track caught my attention and then the famous third - Take That Landed up enjoying all of it. Not my go to, but will go back
Had it's time and place but it has passed for me.
Well he sure sounds like he is having fun. I imaging after a few JD & Coke (both kinds) this would be an awesome evening in some bar in Middle America. Unfortunately (in every sense of the word) I'm not, and listening to this on headphones while at work - so it gets a bit hard after a while. Crazy stuff - but some of the songs got skipped
Different album, but Stevie Wonder must be pissed!! Anyway, so going into this I thought I just listen to it the background while getting ready for the next day, well prepared to give it a 4 because everyone knows this is a great album. I was even considering a 3 just because I had heard is so much and was possibly sick of it. But, it is a great album and actually hooked. I began to appreciate what a story it tells. Will definitely go back.
1987, so must have scratched an itch I had back when I was 12. Enjoyed it all again.
Landed up just skipping though all the songs. I'm partial to 70s music but this ain't for me
Gave it a full listen but it doesn't do anything for me. Seems like guy is trying to be angry but it's not convincing. Likes some of the rap that came in at the end
Although I generally like the artists (especially earlier albumens) The first song really put me off.
Yeah ok, seemed like generic 90s electro
never heard of him before but one track was well known to me, probably from a Cafe Del Mar compilation. I like the style of music but I found parts of the album hard (unbearable?) to listen to
So I get it now. Probably the first time I have listened to an Elvis album, and then I listened to it three times on repeat. Aspects of Johnny Cash which I discovered in my early 30's So yep, getting added to the list
ah, fond memories of listening to by brothers crappy tape copies through he wall of my bedroom. Must have been formative for me
thought it was going to be good, but then it wasn't (for me)
I like The Beach Boys as much as I like The Beatles
I try to like it but it's just so depressing. I can see it worming it's way into your brain on multiple plays, but I just can't do that to myself.
probably just wasn't in the mood for Bob this day
American Pie, a trip down memory lane although for the 90's, not 70's. The rest was enjoyable enough but I'm happy to leave it in the lane it is
twang twang twang, random lyrics, twang twang twang
enjoyed it more that I thought I would. Everyone knows Oasis and frankly they it got a bit much for me. Was a welcome change from the Definitely Maybe album which normally comes up.
So I'm from South Africa and of age when this was formative for me but not old enough to be socially conscious of the frankly strange political set up (80's) What is great that this album now makes me contemplate these things. Great album
Good, but would be amazing if I was off my face
had me going between a 2 an 3. Not my style but I recognized plenty of the tracks, so it must have resonated with me somewhere
I recently 'discovered' Elvis with this website. That record (From Elvis in Memphis) hooked me. This one was fine but more in line with what I had always expected an Elvis record to be. My ears are more open to listening to Elvis however this was ok but not great - for me
can sing along with plenty of the tunes and Madonna loves them, so what am I to judge
So familiar with Dummy but have never given this a listen (knowingly). I could see it being written off as Portishead is is an acquired but I know this is a great album, just need a few more listens to bed it in
skipped though all the songs and gave up. Not horrible but not in the mood.
Low score for me more in that I dont know any of the songs from this album, but that said I'm not looking to discover ABBA when listening to them. Two days ago Arrival came up on my list and that got a solid 4, but for what it ABBA is to me.
According to my stats, funk is my least favorite category. This bears out.
Landed up not, not liking it
I listened this quite a bit when I was in my mid teens (90's) and remembered likening it back then. Then about a year ago I gave it a try and wasn't a fan. And now listened to it again and like it Weird
Nice enough. But I'm not inthis space yet
Not a fan of The Beach Boys so the same here.
the good songs are great, but there's a reason I haven't heard the full album before
Yeah, enjoyed that more than I thought I would
So I'm some bloke who is a mix of South African, Austrian and now living in NZ . However when listening to this I feel as 'American' as apple pie from the Mid West . I start singing the next song on the album before the current one is done - it can only be a strong 5 for me.
Spotify causality, so dont get to listen to it much unless I stream some rip from YouTube - oh well
Wishy washy
Probably not the same target audience as a white 47 year old. But sheeeeat I dig it
One of those bands that I think I would have loved had I come across it at the right time. But now I always feel a bit irritated when starting to listen to them, but 5 song in I'm still listening who knows
To me all Latin music sounds the same. That's not a bad thing but I struggle to differentiate it. It could all be from the same artists. Clearly this is a very condescending thing to say, and that isn't my intention - its just where I am with this
Look its not bad, but I can only prance about the medieval fare for so long.
So there's me in 1993, a 18 year old 'soutie' in the heart of Bloemfontein doing his South African national service. I had Add It Up (1981-1993) to keep me and a few of my fellow 'troepe' company. Never listened to the back catalog, but my god I'm glad I did. Takes me back while making me look forward I'm not a punk fan, but this scratches an itch I definitely have .
Wasn't what I was expecting. Landed up enjoying it more than I thought. Put me into Bobby Brown Goes Down, which is now added to my favorites playlist Seems like an interesting bloke Classic name
Father Yes Son I want to kill you Mother Yes Son I want to ...
Look its not offensive but its all pretty same same. But not to my liking.
Urgh - the Beatles Although to be fair I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Everybody knows this is a great album. My introduction to Leonard Cohen. I'm not a poetry man but this hits a spot All fantastic apart from Jazz Police, not my jam.
Do yourselves a favour and check out his son Baxter Drury, way better
I made it 4 songs in, even that was too much
listend 5 times in a row, and somehow it seemed to mellow a little more each time
Not sure if it just caught me at the right time or if it put me in the right frame of mind, but this was a banger. This kind of music needs to make a comeback
Who says sex doesn't sell, and on review that she was 16 at the time of its release, its a bit concerning. But the video was clearly imprinted on my brain Beat goes on was a pleasant surprise, though there are better versions.
3 is such a weird rating for me. On albums that I feel I should like it’s a low score, but for others it’s ok, maybe not my thing but ok.
some of the songs are amazing, but I wouldn't listen to the whole album. Clearly a great talent
The first song transported me right back to the 80's and I loved it. However I didn't know the majority of the album apart from the hits, and I cant say I would go back to it again.
So I was quite prepared to say "similar to Johnny Cash" (which I love), give it a 3 star rating and move on, possibly skipping a track or two. But the more I listened the more it wormed its way into my head. Glad to add this to my 4Star+ playlist
