Singer’s voice was bad, lyrics were nonsense, and songs were forgettable.

It sounds like he absolutely loves himself and thinks he's a genius, but just comes off as a dull tryhard. The instrumentals are usually okay, but let down by aimless, tuneless, melodies, sung unconvincingly by an English A-Level poet

Felt like it was creepy. Like I was sitting at the bar in the Shining creepy.

Not bad, but just boring. Also, very pretentious. Not every album or song is going to be a hit, and that's ok. But, they should probably stay in the era they were written and performed in and then left alone. This is firmly in that category.

Jangly folk pop-rock overstuffed with lyrics. A little annoying at times and completely forgettable - in one ear and out the other.

Really didn't like this. I mean really. I read a bunch of reviews trying to understand it and it gets compared to like Bob Dylan a lot? Can't believe I like Bob Dylan better than this. I don't really see the comparison. Anyways, nah. Nah nah nah. 1.49/5

Feels like a movie soundtrack. Really hated all of it. Longest 47 mins ever. They really had a lot to say and none of it mattered. No highs.

Overall: 2/10 The music is fine itself but man, those vocals and lyrics are awful. I'm reminded way too much of The Smiths (who I despise). So annoying. It just kept getting worse the longer I listened to it. Fav Song: Rattlesnakes Least Fav Song: 2cv

Not for me

Despite its polished sound and clever references, 𝘙𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 feels oddly lifeless. The songs blend into one another with little variation, and the emotional impact never quite lands. It’s all very tasteful — but far too tame to leave a mark.

I’m bored, bored of this genre. What does this add, absolutely nothing.

Horrible jangly, affected sophisto-pop from the 1980s that I would rather have forgotten about to be honest. There's literally nothing here that stands out, other than the first track, that was a big hit for some reason. The lyrics sound like something a twelve year old might think were clever, but then look back and wonder at how cringe they were a year or two later. The best part of this experience was realising that only the first ten tracks were on the original release, so I could stop listening earlier than I had first thought.

Way too many boring filler songs that sound the exact same! Also, I don't really get the whole "lyrics sometimes not flowing well between verses" -thing. Some of the songs have real potential though. Perfect Skin and Down on Missio.nStreet were the highlights.

"Oh, yay! More jangle pop!" - not me On the one hand, it's not the Smiths or Morrissey. On the other, it's still not good and Lloyd Cole might have a worse voice than Morrissey. At times I wonder if I'm way too sober at a karaoke bar.

Lloyd didn't want to sell anything, buy anything or process anything. Lloyd had big plans of being a kickboxer but instead somehow fell into making a synth-y Brit-pop band from the 80's more mediocre than it would've been on its own. "Down On Mission Street" was a damn good song. Everything else was very boring. Were these guys even aware of what was going on with music in 1984? Michael Jackson, Depeche Mode, Def Leppard, REM, Van Halen, X.... Maybe these guys thought that compared to everything else at the time, that their sound was really fresh and innovative. Good Lord was this album boring as hell.

Quanta fatica ho fatto per finire questo disco, il sound ottantone era proprio quello di cui non avevo bisogno. Ad esclusione di qualche piccolo riff sparso non ho trovato niente e mi è arrivato come troppo semplice e brutto come disco. C'è gente meglio che ha preso 2 quindi se becca un bell'uno.

Not my vibe

Found it hard to be objective on this one. It doesn't seem to be particularly popular (at the time or now) and it doesn't seem particularly influential, so it must be about the musical quality. Feels like this is the sort of thing a music critic would choose, but it's not my bag at all. 3/10
