Reviews (page 3 of 13)

I’m a huge Sinatra fan, proper soft spot since a child. I think he’s in my top 5 all time artists on Spotify, so this is a treat. Cant even tell you what I love about this sound so much. It’s hardly groundbreaking or clever, but it just sounds like all the happy times of the past in one big chunk. Big yes from me

Can't believe we've only had two Frank Sinatra records thus far. Great one this. I really enjoy his interpretation of Cole Porter songs - which are often overwritten, but work in his relaxed style. Nice and brief for the most part. You Make Me Feel So Young, Makin' Whoopee, I've Got You Under My Skin, and Anything Goes were my favourites.

Stone cold classic from Ol' Blue Eyes. Wonderful album of great songs.

an all-timer.

Collection albums on this generator aren’t my favorite because it’s like a cheat code for stars. However, Sinatra hits different and this album is top to bottom fantastic.

Put this on for a terrific throwback experience to share with your best gal or guy and let the good love vibes flow over you. https://open.substack.com/pub/richcain/p/project-1001-songs-for-swingin-lovers?r=4ztyq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

I can’t hate in Sinatra. Of course it’s old music and a genre in general that’s not really happening anymore in today’s mainstream music but that’s maybe also because Sinatra did his best (along some other artists) to play through this genre. This album is perfect for the fall and winter time to listen to it in a cozy place.

Just delightful.

I love Sinatra. This is an easy one. Great sound, great vocals, smooth, easy listening.

Great!

Goes without saying. Perfect.

GOAT'd album by a GOAT'd artist. "I've Got You Under My Skin" wins my fave.

Soooo good!!!!

Exactly what you think a Frank Sinatra album would sound like. Perfect for cocktail parties

Easy listening, great album

Another album I'm very familiar with. Favorite song is probably Pennies from Heaven or Anything Goes. Kept me in a good mood all day

Classic Sinatra with a baritone that will make your feat tap and spirit fly

I mean... It's about 50% of his greatest hits. Brilliant stuff. You'll sing along if you have a soul.

4 a 5 estrelas que delicia

Legendary album

Really enjoyable. Amazing voice and arrangements. It made me think of people walking around New York in smart clothes.

LOVE this record. It’s perfect.

What's not to love?

A very nice LP

Never heard a Sinatra Album, or Track, so it was Refreshing. Thanks 4 this!!

i love this album

Great album. His voice rocks

A great voice is always a winner no matter what genre. Sinatra had one of the greatest.

Люблю Синатру, черт возьми.

Sinatra is incredible.

Great Album!

Classic! Always love Sinatra

Lovely

so much fun! Never had the opportunity to do this with a frank album. Impressive and made me want to experience this in the 50s. I also see how singers of the 60s idolized the hell out of him. So much style

Frank Sinatra and Nelson Riddle - perfection.

yes! 5/5

Sinatra is one of those artists where it almost doesn’t matter what you think of them individually. These are all classics of the American songbook and these are definitive and timeless versions of them. It kind of transcends pop music to just being part of the fabric of history and culture. I don’t mean that in an aggrandizing way. It’s more that Frank Sinatra and especially this version of him is just there.

Live Frank!

Classic Frank! Gotta love it!

There are those who love Frank Sinatra, and those whose musical taste-buds haven't matured yet. Wonderful!

Frank always swings!

Timeless and beautiful. It's an album of mostly standards but you can just feel the dedication and musicianship of everyone involved to claim these tunes as their own, but they still make everything sound smooth and effortless - including Frank with his vocals. How can I not rate this a 5?

My dad is still a big fan of Sinatra and I was brought up listening to his music. This is pretty much perfect.

What a classic. And today I learned that the song “Anything Goes” is a real song and not in fact made up for the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Classic

Dude knows what he’s doing

Frank Sinatra might have the greatest voice of all time. Hearing him sing, I want to dress up in a tan suit, grab a girl by the arm and dance the night away

One of the other reviewers used the word 'timeless' and that's just what this is. Ok so some of the songs are a bit samey but it's the genre and this is the best there is in that genre.

's'wonderful, 's'marvellous.

How can you go wrong with Nelson Riddle, Frank Sinatra and songs from the American Songbook. I know some people find Riddle too brassy, but this has been on my regular replay list for decades and isn't going anywhere.

Franky baby

While neither song was my favorite, the album was really solid all around and really nice to listen to

The quintessential Sinatra album. Perfect in almost every way. Just a joy to listen to on a breezy summer day.

If this is rated anything other than 5* by folks, I don't know what's happened in this world.

I've always had a soft spot for Sinatra and this record is amazingly good. Defines an entire genre, in fact.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this, but I really did.

Brilliant

Genial.

While I felt that the vocals were the highlight of the Ella Sings Gershwin behemoth I got a while back (same composer, surprisingly enough), the band somehow outshines Frank Sinatra's voice here. That's not to say that it isn't smooth as butter, but I would seriously consider giving an instrumental version of this a 5 as well. The only knock I can give it - Anything Goes brought on an itch that it didn't scratch. I had to go down a 30 minute rabbit hole of musical theater divas belting the hell out of it before starting How About You.

Classic Old School Frank! A real treat of suave and cool. If you were not a fan, this is one you really should listen to... especially "I've Got You Under my Skin" and "Old Devil Moon"

5/5 - a real classic

Is this better than Wee Small Hours? Some of Frank’s best works and performances for sure, only held back by the terrible decision to use the phrase “whoopee” to initiate sex. But god, this is it. A

Fantastic album. One of the all time greats.

A few years ago, my then high-schooler son asked me if I had any Frank Sinatra music. I did not, which prompted his next question: “Why Not?” Why not indeed? Easily rectified, our next stop was the local used record emporium, and I picked up this album. I’ve since picked up a couple of others, but this is my favorite. The operative word in the title is swingin’, and this album does indeed swing. This is not just a crooner record. Yes, Sinatra is a great singer, but the recording sounds great (especially for 1956). Full orchestra (Nelson Riddle), lots of horns. And did I mention it swings? Yes, this recording is older is older than I am, and I’m old. But everybody ought to have at least 1 Sinatra album, and I’ll vote for this one. Easy 5/5

It’s a 4 that I’m gonna bump up to a 5 because of some bias. Yes, there are some lulls on this album, but ultimately, what’s here is timeless. Really, truly timeless. I’ve got a lot of respect for Frank Sinatra’s specific era of music, because it’s stood the test of time. So often now, music is such a 1-way street of “drop, get the public attention for 2 weeks, leave,” and then go support the tour or the merch drops. There’s so much talk about the “Great American Songbook” that I occasionally see, and I think this album is a great showcase of what that actually is. Yes, in 70 years time, I imagine the kids of 2094 will talk about Taylor Swift and not Frank Sinatra, but that’s the proof that even though music has changed, so much of its DNA can still be traced back to this era, these compositions, these melodies, and voices like Frank Sinatra that make them pop to life. In that sense, this album just gets elevated higher to me; it’s a man at his peak showcasing songs that have lived on for years and years past their original versions because of this album and the amount of people that have tried to emulate his style. Almost every composition of these tracks, I would argue, is probably most heavily based on Sinatra’s versions, or at least Sinatra’s contemporaries who all took inspiration from him. That’s where the 4 gets bumped up to a 5: this album’s influence, and its timelessness. Great album, even if it has a few lulls.

I love Sinatra because of my mom's lifelong obsession with him. I've listened to him for most of my life. 5 stars, easy!

A M A Z I N G Decent 9

Enjoyable!

Fantastic album.

Great music to hang out with the mob to

So good. How fitting to get this one a day after Dad’s birthday. God Bless Frank!

Frank is the king of standards singers, and this is his most well known and celebrated album. It's great and deserves every bit of praise.

What a breath of fresh air. I had a great time walking around my city to this album. It’s smooth and relaxed. I really enjoyed the trombone and clarinet parts especially, but the big band in general was phenomenal.

I love this so much. Just when a listener takes iconic songs for granted, you hear Frank and the orchestra just create magic. I listened to this on what would have been my father's 89th birthday; the album came out when my parents got married. I can still see them dancing to these hits.

A banger from old blue eyes.

I've got you...

Top of his class.

A lot of classics on here. Hard not to love Frank's voice and his style.

Love the big band sound.. Not a massive fan of Sinatra's voice, but the two together work well.

Only a handful of really good songs but the voice carries all the water necessary. Mount Rushmore of singers.

Sublime for coooking or walking on a sunny day

Love this album!

Najbolje pjesme: 1. You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me 2. You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me 3. It Happened In Monterey 4. You Make Me Feel So Young 5. Too Marvelous For Words Sve su dobre zapravo.

Then voice is so amazing but his phrasing is next level. Never thought I would like any version of Making Whoopee but he crushes it. He us just so smooth and melodious. They'll never be another one like him.

What’s not to love man? Made me feel like swinging my squeeze around from the get go.

The classic version of all the classics. A different kind of era and a different kind of singer but it's a pleasure to listen to.

Frank is always under my skin.

What a fun time!

I love Frank but wasn't familiar with this album - a lovely collection of uptempo pop standards of (mostly) the 40s and 50s. Even though I hadn't heard this album, I think I've heard Sinatra sing nearly all of the songs presented here (except maybe "We'll Be Together Again"). I certainly recognize all the songs and hearing them in Frank's golden voice made me smile from start to finish.

I don't love this one quite as much as In the Wee Small Hours but there's no competing with the combination of Frank & Nelson Riddle. Old devil Moon, getting to be a habit with me, love is here to stay and anything goes are the standouts to me. They just don't write em like they used to!

This album is great for a lot of reasons. Sinatra at this point had smoked the optimal number of cigarettes to give his voice some heft and gristle without losing musicality. The arrangements are lush and brassy, but the songs are so tightly constructed that the orchestration never gets too soupy. The masters are so well-preserved, it sounds like it was recorded yesterday. As a kid I'd play this album while hitting golf balls around my house, sipping sparkling water.

Classic.

Absolutely love listening to Frank Sinatra!

Great vocals, arrangements, song writing and playing. This music is the great American songbook. Some people here are questioning why they should like this music because it’s “old” and they are young. Music transcends time. All art does. Great art is for the ages. To dismiss it because one thinks it’s “old” music is to do oneself a disservice. Do these people dismiss art works from previous eras? Classical music? In addition, there are some reviewers who say all the songs sound the same. Sounds like something their parents or grandparents would say about rock and roll or rap. 🤔

Ol’ Blue Eyes! The Final Curtain, what a lovely song. All of this album is delightful.

The truth is that music just sounds better in the hands of Frank Sinatra. I've always adored this guy's voice. Between his confident swagger and his big, commanding vocals, he's a legend for a reason. And those arrangements are exquisite. Nelson Riddle did an amazing job with arrangements that perfectly complement Sinatra’s voice without getting drowned out by it. Listening to the instruments is just as enjoyable as listening to the singing. Also, the coolest thing about this record is that it doesn’t even have what I consider to be Frank Sinatra’s best work. Just goes to show how strong his discography is, and how well he can elevate any classic American pop song. I could listen to Sinatra allllll day. Standouts are You Make Me Feel So Young, It Happened in Monterey, Swingin’ Down the Lane, and I’ve Got You Under My Skin.

Classics on top of classics. It’s perfect. Even if I prefer other renditions of these songs, there is nothing to complain about here.

Great album. I love Sinatra 💖

Listening to Sinatra feels like a rainy afternoon spent in my grandmother's closet trying on flowery hats and getting sentimental seeing her handwriting on the bak of old photos. I'd put this album on the turntable in the other room and remember how she cried in the car the day she heard that "ol' blue eyes" had died. The music is classic, his voice is smooth and charming, the era is timeless.

Classic Sinatra at his best! Effortless and relaxing to listen to.

Just amazing. One of the best bands of all time, and the arranging is so good. Easy 5 stars.

Loved this. Sinatra at his best.

Has memories attached so I love it. Played a lot of these songs while in a big band. Grandmother also loved Sinatra.

A classic. Truly impressive voice and he has an amazing ability to bring his own stylings to a song

The Start of Something Big.

It''s Frank, what else is there to say?

Absolute bop

The best

Classic. Dont think there is a bad song on this one.

I love me some Frank

Love Frank Sinatra!

I like the charity of the lyrics. I can Understand every word he sings. Soothing, soft and relaxing music.

Frank's the Boss

It was great to hear classic big band music the way that only Frank could sing it!

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! It is an essential album for lovers of Frank Sinatra's music, swing and good music in general. It is a masterpiece that combines Sinatra's unmatched voice with Riddle's masterful arrangements, creating an atmosphere of elegance, joy and love. It is a relaxing album that can be listened to at any time of the day.

I love singing along to all these classics. My favorite Sinatra album by far.

Still relevant, expression of love , romance, heartbreak with class.

Really enjoyed this Sinatra album, definitely one of those I can easily see myself revisiting. Also, one that I would love to throw on the record player with company over. Favorite songs: "You Make Me Feel So Young" "I've Got You Under My Skin" "Anything Goes"

Classic.

Awesome listen. Put me in a good mood

I love this! It reminds me of a bygone era that I see only from the rearview window, looking back to my childhood and the older people in my life who would have listened to this. I don't even have family who listened to Sinatra, but I picture Central Park in spring, fedoras and whispers of the Mafia, and cool, neon-blue, smoky night clubs with waiters in tuxedos serving martinis.

Great stuff. I love old blue eyes.

I think this might be a 4 in terms of songwriting (they do all sound very similar), but you can't deny the feeling the performances elicit. The dynamic range and swing of the band is just perfect, and what needs to be said about the vocal? I got this very near christmas which really bought the whole thing together too.

My favourite Frank album.

Big fan. Bought this vinyl in 1985. Still listen to it.

I was not expecting to love this album as much as I did. Of course Sinatra was going to get 3 or 4 stars from me, but I did not expect to rate this a 5. It’s such a fun album, and Sinatra puts on a masterclass here. I enjoyed every single minute of listening to this. My favorite songs were “You Make Me Feel So Young,” “Too Marvelous for Words,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and his take on “Anything Goes,” which had a lot to live up to. I don’t always love this type of music, but this was fabulous, and I will listen to it again (and again and again).

Love Frank Sinatra's voice. Already heard and liked You Make Me Feels So Young. Good album.

Old Blue Eyes. 5/5

The absolute audacity to rhyme indiscrete heart with sweetheart, the lesbians are correct about him, man's an absolute legend and this albums why

Walking through the city on my way to work, sun in my eyes and suddenly life is so much better because of this record. Frank Sinatra has a way of making the world feel so much smaller in the best way possible - I am in love in the same way you are in love!!!

I like it, how about you? ;) No but seriously, this genuinely brought a skip to my step. Can see why he took the world by storm.

fly me to the moon!

Wonderful!

Great performances and arrangements. Extremely well crafted and enjoyable album.

Loved this one. Such a well done album that feels great and swings the whole time. Definitely will listen again

He’s so good. Loved this whole album

Frank Sinatra just has a magical voice. Great listen

Wow. In a way almost the exact opposite of In Utero. Great album. Especially since I’ve started dancing recently, it really is perfect for swinging lovers. As well Frankie’s versions of a some of these songs are still the definitive version in the American song book. I think there are better versions of some of the other standards than on this album, but frank Sinatra could making any song his own. Kind of interesting to think of Sinatra as being the progenitor of the album as art form. Another reason the album is so good is all the songs flow and work together. When all the dust settles both Frankie and Kurt will be considered some of the greatest of all time.

Me encanta Sinatra

Classic, beautiful and moving

I love all the old crooners. This is right up my alley.

Classic pop music. Blue eyes. This is a classic

WHOOPIE I really like Sinatra, and big band stuff in general.

Impeccable. The greatest, most effortless singer with a clutch of superb songs backed by lush arrangements. Hard to find fault.

Beautiful classic

Bangers after bangers

Wow. First time listening to Sinatra and wow.

Me encanta. Es exactamente lo que esperás que sea, pero un poquito mejor. 4.5/5

BABY THIS IS THE DRIVING CROONER

The iconic sound of Frank. An album to put me in a good mood for the rest of the day. Perfect for the beach - Hermosa Beach.

1. Arrangements and Orchestra: The album features exceptional orchestration and arrangements by Nelson Riddle, who collaborated closely with Sinatra on several projects. Riddle's expertise shines through with his innovative use of strings, brass, and woodwinds. The arrangements perfectly complement Sinatra's smooth vocal style, creating a lush and captivating sonic landscape. 2. Song Selection: The tracklist is a well-curated selection of classic American standards and love songs. From the upbeat and joyful "You Make Me Feel So Young" to the heartfelt and tender "I've Got You Under My Skin," each song showcases Sinatra's versatility and emotional depth as a singer. The album effortlessly combines swinging, romantic, and melancholic tunes, making it a diverse and engaging listening experience. 3. Sinatra's Vocal Performance: Sinatra's performance on "Songs for Swingin' Lovers!" is nothing short of exceptional. His phrasing, timing, and delivery are impeccable. His ability to convey a range of emotions, from joy and excitement to longing and vulnerability, is a testament to his mastery as a vocalist. He captures the essence of each song and brings them to life with his unique style. 4. Standout Tracks: "I've Got You Under My Skin": Sinatra's rendition of this Cole Porter classic is a highlight of the album. His passionate and seductive delivery, combined with Riddle's sultry arrangement, creates an unforgettable musical moment. "My Funny Valentine": Sinatra's rendition of this jazz standard is a masterclass in vocal interpretation. His sensitive and intimate performance evokes a sense of vulnerability and tenderness that resonates deeply with listeners. "You Make Me Feel So Young": This upbeat, joyful track captures the essence of youthful love and vitality. Sinatra's infectious energy and the lively arrangement make it a standout on the album. "I Get a Kick Out of You": Another Cole Porter gem, Sinatra's smooth and charismatic delivery of this song is a joy to listen to. The arrangement perfectly complements his vocal performance. 5. In conclusion, "Songs for Swingin' Lovers!" is a masterpiece that showcases Frank Sinatra at the peak of his artistic prowess. Its exceptional arrangements, song selection, and Sinatra's unparalleled vocal performance make it a classic that remains a must-listen for anyone interested in the golden era of American popular music. It's an album that continues to enchant and move audiences more than six decades after its release.

A glorious masterpiece. It convinced me to sign up for a tap dancing class

Very nice vibe!

An easy perfect score. The arrangements, the delivery, the production for the time period, how punchy the horns are - it’s a very nearly perfect record (perfect for our purposes here). Most of the time when I see negative or less favorable reviews of this record, it’s about the naïveté of the lyrics and song choices considering where Frank was in his life and like…ok, fair, but with his proliferation during the time period, he should have had even MORE variety. The Capitol records are generally all stellar and this is essential - just a pure joy to listen through.

ok qué preciosura necesito un amado para que bailemos lento en la cocina. 9/10

i wish it was Christmas now bc it fits the atmosphere (warming music!!!)

Every songs a hit. His voice never gets old. This man will always be around.

I loved this whole album from beginning to end. Ol' Blue eyes has such an iconic voice and the music behind him is amazing. This was awesome!

Four songs in, this man dripped. Beautiful arrangements, silky voice. You Make Me Feel So Young is a classic. You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me is just gorgeous and meandering. Old Devil Moon is another smooth number with slick lyrics and some bombastic instrumental work. I'm kind of sad that this format of music mostly died; it exudes class and a simpler time.. LMAO there is legitimately a song called "Makin' Whoopee" telling a harrowing tale of getting married, having kids, and developing responsibilities. I'm sold. Anything Goes sounds like a classy old man rant about the changing world and dissolution of honorous principles. Got me swinging for the last 45 minutes, and for that I give 5 / 5.

A legendary musician playing some legendary music. I always enjoy big band and this is no exception. I feel like Frank Sinatra was the smoothest mfer during his time. He probably made so much whoopee. The album starts to feel a little bit samey towards the end, but I don't care because it's so great.

When you know almost every word to every song and you were raised on it, its a 5

Can't lie, not super memorable for me. But still a beautiful album.

I love this. An absolute classic

A classic

Classic Frank

Sonzao épico, muito bem imstrumentado (orquestra) e vozerao

Classics sung well

como polla al culo

Música para echarse unos pokers

The best of the Sinatra albums that feature in the 1001 albums book, ‘Songs For Swingin’ Lovers!’ is effortless, glorious, Nelson Riddle’s arrangements sparkle, and Sinatra is at his absolute best. He never sounded better. If you only ever listen to one Sinatra album, make it this one.

ol' blue eyes never left

Classic Sinatra. This isn't what I usually listen to, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. 8/10.

The voice of an Angle and a Devil with the songs behind him to match

Personally I am a Sinatra lover. There's not too many songs that sound unique but it's nice to put on.

classic

How can you not like Frank Sinatra? His silky, comforting voice and backing orchestration just fill me with warm feelings. No one croons quite like him.

Funny to get this album the day after I watched From Here to Eternity, for which Frank Sinatra won Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars in 1954. I didn't care for Sinatra's bossa nova album on this list, but this is definitely up my alley. I knew a lot of the songs already either from him or others who have covered them. Overall, I can't complain about this!

loved it! My Dad who has passed away loved Frank Sinatra!

9/10 painfully straight, but I’ll be damned if ain’t full o’ bangers!

Frank the fucking tank, what a chad, what a voice I feel like I should have listened to this on an old record player Made me feel nostalgia for the 50's Pure vibes, love this album so much

vanhanan kunnon aikana! osattiin laulaa... ei tarvittu auto tune vai mikä hitto kaikki beatlesit ja sellaiset käyttää...ei tarvitse kuin laulu ääni ja musiikki... 100% talent 0% stupid 0% woman 0% beatles 0% music... iskelmä fucking rule forever..... beatles paska kuolee kohta.... ive got you under mys kin

Nelson Riddles' orchestration reminds me of the Top Cat theme tune, and that's no bad thing.

Simply a classic!!

Of course this is a 5 star listen.

Own on Vinyl

certified

ole blue eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolut grandioses Album, Frankie geht immer.

Another artist who is so well known for a reason. Really enjoyable listen.

Great!

This album is much more upbeat than 'In the Wee Small Hours.' Sinatra is more expressive and playful with these songs. I enjoyed this album more and felt that it was more dynamic than the previous entry.

I would prefer to hear the original vinyl, but c’mon Frank & Nelson Riddle!!! Sinatra was a true vocalist, he PHRASED the tune. He hit the right note at the right time on this lp Swingin’ Lovers is the right title, because he was swinging all trough this classic MORE LIKE THIS PLEASE

A certified classic. Some of the best of Sinatra, and the best tracks of the entire era were on this record.

Classic! Great album

Wow! I’ve never really been into Sinatra but a listen through of this album had made me do a complete 180.

Well I don't know how people can rank Frank Sinatra Albums. So many top tracks here. At times they sound so camp. But that is the joy too. The warmth grandeur never fades from these songs. I'd say there are 5 superb tracks on this album. You know them too. How could you not? Go Frankie!

Andy called Frank Sinatra “a sexual freak” during this album so it’s an automatic 5 stars even though I thought it was fine

I like Frank singing. How about you? I like Nelson Riddle arrangements. How about you? I like short sweet songs that keep you coming for more. A classic album that keeps you smiling, of that I’m sure. How about you? How about you?

there are most definitely better singers and better arrangements of all of these songs, but that doesn’t lessen my enjoyment of listening to Ol’ Blue Eyes

Classic Frank, though not my favorite. I don't know why everyone always chooses this one over A Swingin' Affair from 1957 when that one's better. Whatever. This is great stuff. Any time Frank teamed up with Nelson Riddle they made magic. That opener is magic and "I've Got You Under My Skin" might be his greatest moment. Music to cook to!

Come on now. Favorite track: I've Got You Under My Skin

This album reminded me of my Grandpa who died 15 years ago. On its own merits I'd probably give it 3 stars but my Grandpa was the coolest person I know so 5 stars for making me think about him.

:) very chill

Not what I'd normally choose to listen to, but what a marvellous voice - he could sing the telephone directory and make it sound great.

was nice, lots of classic songs and good to study to!

Loved it

Loved it.

outstanding. frank sinatra will always hit

Exceptional lyrics, jazz, hippie, classy. The way the words convey their message in a playful, romantic, and sexy manner is like no other.

Perfect evening listening, the best damn crooner that ever lived.

Just golden. What a voice. What arrangements. Another review on here mentioned how despite all the work and expertise this sounds absolutely effortless.

It has swing, it has love, and it has songs for swingin' lovers, what else can i ask for?

One of the two albums that convinced me Frank Sinatra was worth listening to. Nelson Riddle deserves equal praise for making this album what it is.

A truth nobody wants to hear: the best part of any given Sinatra song is the backing band. That's not meant to slight Frank as much as it is to give the band credit. Ol' Blue Eyes might be going on about catching pennies with an umbrella or making whoopie or writers who use four letter words, and it's great because he's Frank Sinatra, but the band just doesn't give a fuck. They're going to get theirs, and they do - on every. single. track. Best track: I've Got You Under My Skin

Fun old crooner need a martini now!

Do all the songs sound similar? Absolutely. Do they all sound great? Absolutely.

Okay, I was fully expecting a Leonard Cohen album repeat where I was bored out of my mind. But no. FIVE STARS. Almost got hit by a car swaying back and forth on my bike. This album had Some killer hits, but also, what life lessons I wish I had heard before. Maybe I’d spend more time yelling at octogenarian neighbors for creating a world where “Anything goes.” Maybe we would have thought twice about having kids if I’d heard the words: “He's washin' dishes and baby clothes He's so ambitious, he even sews But don't forget folks, that's what you get folks…” We’ll never know. All I know is some punk kids are going to give this a two because these days only four letter words count as prose. Anything goes.

Hadn’t played this for a while, but I was brought up attending the Church of Sinatra on a regular basis, so am totally familiar with the album. Great thing about the opening track is that he not only feels so young but he sounds so young, even though he was 40 when these songs were recorded. He was in great voice. The period he was with Capitol Records produced his best work, as far as I was concerned. And there’s no doubt Nelson Riddle had a lot to do with it. The arrangements are sensational. Most of the 14 tracks rate highly in the so-called great American songbook. Worth it just for I’ve Got You Under My Skin - one of Cole Porter’s finest & one of the great vocals of all time. A classic.

Fantastic. It’s hard to go wrong with Sinatra but there are no duds on this album. The master is great (not always a given for these older albums) and it’s really a joy to listen to

listen, it’s sinatra. you know what you’re getting, and it’s going to be great every time.

Can't go wrong with Sinatra, I love his music so much

I did not expect to be reading about the history of "swinging" today, but that is the beauty of having the Wikipedia articles hyperlinked on here. Part of me likes to think that this was the reason for the choice of name. Sinatra had such a wonderfully smooth voice. I normally have a lot more to say about my 5 star albums. This one speaks enough for itself without me talking too much about it. "You Make Me Feel So Young" and "I've Got You Under My Skin" are all time classics and cement my choice of a 5. I Would very happily listen to it top to bottom again.

I love this as a counterpart to In the Wee Small Hours. That one, torchy and emotional, with this one, joyful and exuberant. He made it through the dark night and finally found love! Whoopee! As with that album, this never feels campy or over the top. What I noticed is that Sinatra is such a master of syncopation and phrasing that people have constantly imitated, parodied, and exaggerated it ever since (including Frank himself down the road. I've tried to imitate it and it really can go terribly wrong.) The real thing, however, is masterful. For a good example, I would suggest the opening of "Anything Goes." Subtle, but distinctive and effective. I was intrigued by the idea (simplified here) that Sinatra's fame in the 40s was due to his natural abilities, but that in the 50s he worked really really hard to develop his voice and get back in the game after a lull in his career. "I've Got You Under My Skin" really showcases how good he sounds through a wide vocal range. It's an incredible performance at the apex of his singing. It's also important to give credit to Nelson Riddle, who was absolutely key to making this album so great. Any singer was lucky to sing to his arrangements and orchestra.

This was definitely a swingin' album. Loved it!!

I could swing with Frank all day!

After being slightly disappointed by “In The Wee Small Hours”, Frank’s release from the year before this one, I wasn’t sure how this might go. Everything about this was better. Nelson Riddle and his orchestra really shines. They would make this album a five with any number of crooners at the mic - check out the incredible instrumental break in “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”. Still, Frank is particularly on point here and compliments these arrangements perfectly. Forget the wee small hours… I’m cooling it with the swingin’ lovers!

Some of my favorite Sinatra songs on this album. There was a pleasant cover of Anything Goes by Cole Porter on here. Which for any Fallout fans out there will sound immediately familiar.

Absolute classic. How anyone can not give old blue eyes 5 stars is beyond me. Maybe I'm just an old fart. That voice so smooth, the orchestra so jazzy, the overall effect is like slipping into a warm bath. I feel relaxed.

Frank Sinatra makes me feel like Fred Astaire (but less tired).

It's probably cool to bash Frank these days, but I love these albums.

capo capon

Sinatra's 10th album. Arranged by Nelson Riddle. This album has 15 songs that were pop standards reinterpreted by Sinatra (and Nelson) in a more jazzy way. I have to say I was in a pretty grumpy mood and then I listened to this. Now, not as grumpy. This is the first Sinatra album I listened to, especially at any depth. One impressive thing about these songs is his timing and interactions with the orchestra. He seems to be almost playing with them and when the music steps up, he steps backs. Great patience. Also, absolutely great arrangements by Nelson Riddle. All songs are in the three- to four-minute long range. You can't go wrong with any of these. To really do a thorough review, I would have needed to go back and listen to the original songs or at least the best-known versions for comparison. Unfortunately, no time for that. A song highlight for me is "I Got You Under My Skin" which is a Cole Porter tune where I had heard the orginal. Sinatra's delivery and the orchestra taking off midstream with the trombone and horns are tremendous. Other songs which I note for there uplifting spirit and overall excellence: "Too Marvelous for Words," "Pennies from Heaven " You Make Me Feel So Young." This is an album to lift you up on a rainy day or when you might be in a grumpy mood.

Fatastisk

Old School music, to give a bit of swing to your day. Great album with some of the most famous classics.

An absolute classic album, through and through. A velvety sound from the backing orchestra, and an even smoother voice coming from Sinatra. A beautiful album that has remained timeless and will continue to. Let the sun shine and the jazz swing.

Classic

Classic Franky!👍

Sinatra never go out of style.

An almost perfect album, every song is memorable.

It's Frank's world, we just live in it.

Love it.

Love it!

Love the chairman

I like everyone else like to listen to Frank Sinatra around Christmas time. When did he become such a Christmas classic? Was that always the case or is that like a 21st century thing...

Swingin good time

lovely! classic! wonderful!

Listened to this twice in a row and again in the following days when I should have been listening to other albums, oops. I love this style of music and Frank is in charge of it so this is a big winner for me. It's just so classic love love love

The definition of classy music. Sublime instrumentation throughout. There's old-fashioned magic here.

❤️

Very enjoyable

Peak Sinatra, the lead track might be my favorite of all his recordings. It's worth pointing out that this was the peak of his career revival with Capitol and a huge deal to the Italian American community, who had in Sinatra a role model for getting out of underclass status in America.

Classic album and really nice to listen to.

This is absolutely sensational. Can't fault it in any way whatsoever. Gotta be a 5 all things considered

It's old blue eyes. A shitty, shitty man, but a great singer.

Great album

Yeah, baby. Yeah! Love Frank.

What can you say about this one? Classic Sinatra. All great songs. Missing a couple of my favorite Sinatra songs (like Luck Be a Lady), but they're all exactly what you'd expect on a Sinatra album.

I love the orchestra in the background. I would knock off half a star because the songs are all really similar.

Although not what you mould consider an album by modern standards, this is an amazing collection of Old Blue Eyes.

It's Sinatra, what's not to enjoy?

Great album for a sunny workday morning.

Classic

Great sunny day walking music. Upbeat, swingin' & happy

Pues nada nuevo, se conoce la potencia vocal de este hombre, las letras son muy bonitas y están musicalizadas de manera impecable. Es lo que es.

Frank Sinatra! Altijd geweldig!

Perfect for a date - dinner night at home

Love it! Relax

Fabulous

Frank is always an excelletn choice!

JUST GREAT.

Cinco estrellas con base en el método preestablecido y auditable en todos aspectos. De esos discos que debería escuchar una vez al día, ya no digamos en la vida.

First album on the list. How can you complain about Sinatra as your first album? Especially with the first song being you make me feel so young. I think I'm going to enjoy this daily album challenge

Great stuff

What a voice!

What a guy

Classic. What a voice

Some nice classics. “Anything Goes” and “You Make Me Feel So Young” feel pretty timeless in all honesty. Pretty consistent tunes, nothing drowning the others out.

Sorry Steve. Just testing to see just how open to abuse this thing is. But you really should give Exile on Main Street another listen, it's a fucking banger, mate.

Excelente

Easy, enjoyable.

Nice as background music, altough its starts getting repetitive by the second half of the record.

Should compilations count as cheating? Who cares such a fun album

easy to listen to, and surprisingly contemporary despite how old the album is. this is very much the sound I associate with Sinatra—a smooth voice and a big band.

Et rart big band-album.

These were all well performed songs. On some level I found it quite enjoyable. But there was nothing quite innovative here and my guy doesn’t even write his own music. Gonna give this a 4 because it’s Frankie Blue eyes but could be a 3.

The voice of a generation.

A lovely collection of songs

Lovely

This is a top-tier album. While listening I felt pure warmth and joy — it’s just lovely from beginning to end. There’s not much more I need to say. Frank is at his absolute peak here: smooth, charming, confident, and full of emotion. The orchestra swings beautifully, the arrangements are perfect, and his voice sounds like velvet. It’s romantic, classy, playful, and sophisticated all at the same time. This is easily one of his best and most favourite records. Pure musical comfort. If you want to hear Sinatra at his swinging, heartfelt finest, this is the one.

First read music from another era.

I’m not necessarily a Sinatra fan, but I am absolutely a sucker for swing. Not every song on this album fits the category, he veers into straight ballads so loses a star for those.

bueno. Bonita de soundtrack en películas y no fue horrible mientras trabajaba. Suena a propesridad
