Really keen
Es un pesado el tipo. Todas son canciones de amor muy boludas. Pero su voz es hermosa y la banda es increíble.
Old age effortless romance. I don't understand the people saying all the songs sound the same. It's a genre album, they're gonna stick to a theme. Type of album I'd listen to while making a bombass lasagna
Classic.
Это неплохо, поставлю 4, потому что я сегодня добрая
Хороший, приятный, но не идеал
Frank Sinatra good
Oh Frank! What a voice. The dude's pipes are made of velvet. This album is exactly what I imagine when I think of a Frank Sinatra record. Plenty of well-known songs, "You Make Me Feel So Young," "Anything Goes," "Pennies from Heaven," and some great deep cuts as well. The band is on point and is perfectly balanced to let Frank's voice shine through. Super pleasant, and fun, and upbeat. I'll have to hunt this one down in person now! FOUR STARS
Fab.Old blue eyes at his peak
At his croonin’ best
I like Frank
Say what you want about Sinatra, but he knows how to sing a song. You Make Me Feel So Young, I've Got You Under My Skin, and Anything Goes are all absolute classics. Listening to them just reminds me of hanging out with my grandpa, a huge Sinatra fan. I thought It Happened in Monterey and Makin' Whoopie were pretty funny, which I didn't expect from this album at all. Really good stuff, even if a lot of it is sorta samey and nearly all of it is covers.
Irresistible.
Feeling nostalgic for the songs that my parents and grandparents would play when I was young, but also fun to discover a few that I wasn't familiar with!
Songs For Swingin’ Lovers! By Frank Sinatra is an album that one day I want to dance with my wife to in our living room. I think it’s a great album. Top Three: Pennies From Heaven, You Make Me Feel So Young, Too Marvelous for Words
I enjoyed it, but it was a bit repetitive
Big band, swing and Sinatra. What a voice, what a time to be alive post WWII and have this silky smooth sounds come over the radio. The album as a whole sounds like a run on sentence. Works more for me on a song by song basis.
Siempre Sinatra
I knew about half the songs already and liked them on Spotify.
Drove into the countryside with Kyra, perfect for a rainy day.
Timeless music from ol' blue eyes. Great vocals well well before auto tune. A classic that stands the test of time.
Like a compilation album but bangers
Lovely.
Chairman of the board? More like the CEO of great.
8/10 Probably won't be my favorite Sinatra album but it gets like 2 whole bonus points for containing my favorite Sinatra song of all time (I've Got You Under My Skin). Good stuff.
Good
First frank album I've listened to. I get it, it's good!
You gotta love a concept album from Frank Sinatra. It’s not as good as the album of downers he recorded after Ava Gardner dumped him, but the Chairman rarely disappoints.
i love this era of music & frank sm 🥹
4.0 Kinda the same thing over and over, but its Frank and hes swinging so Im going to give it a 4,
this is definitely on someones swingers playlist (either the movie or the lifestyle). If you love Frankie then of course you'll like it, also songs about plowing and using flowery language is always good.
I mean… it’s Sinatra. You either enjoy his stuff or you don’t. I dig it baby. Plus there’s a song called Making Whoopee so what’s there to complain about? …Other than those horns being waaaay too sharp
Baita album, definitivamente um dos melhores de sinatra, especialmente para quem está apaixonado (o que não é meu caso) Talvez eu teria aproveitado mais ainda se eu estivesse apaixonado por alguem
Literally love, so insanely good. Who doesn’t love this crooner.
Sinatra is a genius and this album is a masterpiece. I love the brass, in conversation with his voice. I can only guess this is what slow love sounds like.
I find swing a bit cheesy a lot of the time but there are so many classic tunes here, it still makes me smile.
I did this rating. I said it was canon and that Frank Sinatra is an original swooner, the jazzy background is a huge plus and he is worth the next generations to listen to to see how it is done. Not sure why it did not go through as it DID go through? Asch. No worries.
My rating 3.8. Every song the same yet you know all the lyrics. A fun romp.
It is very hard to miss with Sinatra.
Never gave Mr. Frank a chance, but this album is very good. I’m thinking four stars. Especially cool that he was supporting the swinging community like this
I’m a sucker for some crooning
Was in the perfect mood for this and it hit soooo good
I'm a big fan of the crooners like Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett, etc. I could listen to this kind of music all day - I love the atmosphere it creates. I played a few Frank Sinatra songs in high school jazz band and started to get into his music around that time. His singing voice is gorgeous and I love the style of the jazz accompaniments. A couple of songs from this album are in my library already (You Make Me Feel So Young & I've Got You Under My Skin) and there are a few jazz standards I'm familiar with, though this was my first time hearing Sinatra's versions. Not my favourite album of his, but still a pleasant listen. I can't believe this is one of only three Frank Sinatra albums on the list and none of them include any of his (imo) best songs: Strangers in the Night, My Way, Somethin' Stupid, That's Life, The World We Knew, Fly Me To The Moon, The Way You Look Tonight, Summer Wind, Luck Be A Lady, It Was A Very Good Year, The Best Is Yet To Come, Bewitched, and many more. All of these songs are worth checking out! He apparently recorded 59 albums during his career so I think his best songs are spread out across a bunch of those, but I still think he has several albums that could've represented his talent better than this one.
First time I've listened to a full frank album
Nice pleasant music for tiptoeing through the daisies. This would be a great album to own on vinyl.
I'm sure I overuse the term 'classic' in my reviews here, but this is exactly that. What a voice, what a time!
This is not normally my style, but dammit I can't help but like Sinatra. It's not always the vibe I want, but it's a good vibe! "You Make Me Feel So Young" "Old Devil Moon" "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "Anything Goes" were standouts for me.
I’m probably going to go against the grain here but I felt this album was a tale of two halves. I really enjoyed the first half of the album, all of tracks 1-9 were superb, the standouts been ‘you make me feel so young’ ‘I’ve got you under my skin’ and ‘old devil moon’ I then felt like the album fell off a cliff and was full of ‘filler’ culminating in ‘makin whoopee’ which was dreadful! No denying the vocals have survived the generations and he would succeed in today’s society still. But this album didn’t have hit after hit as I was expecting but those first 9 tracks brought enough for a pretty decent score still. Best track- ‘old devil moon’ Worst track- ‘makin whoopee’ Overall 8/10
I haven’t listened to much frank sinatra before but this album was really nice
Classic, elegant and perfect for spring
It's Sinatra - so expect incredible love songs. This album doesn't disappoint where that is concerned. Each song is wonderful on it's own, but as an album it feels repetitive at times. With that said, the songs are *really* good.
I mean, it's Frank. What an amazing singer.
Hard not to enjoy this tbh - the exact right songs and arrangements for old Frank. Favourite track: Pennies from Heaven
perfect dinner party record 4 stars would definitely sound great on vinyl
vibey but the lyrics of anything goes rub me the wrong way
One classic after another, songs that have been so part of the fabric of our lives that they are just part of our collective subconscious at this point.
Very similar songs. Quite jazzy. Definitely on grandads jukebox or record player.
A thoroughly pleasant and enjoyable set of songs, many of which will be familiar to most of us. Frank’s voice is in fine condition here and Nelson Riddle’s orchestral scores are magnificent. The main complaint from many listeners seems to be the lack of variety in the song styles which I can understand, however the album doesn’t outstay its welcome and evokes some lovely imagery of the early days of a relationship. Terrific stuff.
Siempre bien
Songs for Swingin’ Lovers! by Frank Sinatra is a defining statement of mid-century vocal jazz. Backed by Nelson Riddle’s sharp, buoyant arrangements, Sinatra delivers effortless phrasing, wit, and rhythmic precision throughout. The album balances charm and technical control, turning standards into something vivid and contemporary for its time. It’s not just a collection of songs, it’s a cohesive mood, polished and confident, though occasionally a bit too pristine to feel emotionally risky. 8/10
- generally good vibes, I like Frank - don’t forget folks, that’s what you get folks… - would probably listen again
I mean we are etalking about frank sinatra here, do i need to say a word?
I was already familiar with Frank Sinatra and several tracks from this album. I may have even heard the full album before once or twice. It's a swing jazz album featuring Frank Sinatra's outstanding vocals. This is an excellent album with many songs that have become standards, and many more which could be. Not only are the individual tracks solid, but there is cohesiveness across the album in terms of sound and themes is a nice touch as well. While I may not always be in the mood for this type of music, this album is as good as it gets for this genre.
Sinatra es siempre un placer. Lo escuché cocinando.
I could see fucking to some of these songs.
Velmi dober🔥
15/04/2026 It did get a bit boring in places, so no more than 4 stars Frank I'm afraid. Spotify listeners: 18 million
Pretty much what you would expect. Very easy to listen to!
cozy and warm, feels like home somehow (i’m not American)
heres the thing. the album is beautiful, and was a symbol of this era. obviously i know its a classic for a reason, but I have heard all the songs before so i was a little bored listening through.
icon of music.
Amazing Sinatra album, great classics sung by him, some songs go way back for me, love his swooning voice throughout this album. Great. 1. You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me 2. Love Is Here To Stay 3. I've Got You Under My Skin
Classic voice performing some classic songs. It’s pretty solid. Favourites: I’ve Got You Under My Skin
I’m not a big Sinatra fan. He has a great voice and it was a good time growing up when he and the rat pack were together. Just because I don’t like him shouldn’t affect how I feel about his music in general.
This album is why Frank Sinatra is known as the fifth Beatle.
Stocked with classics and eternally enjoyable, with Sinatra’s voice constantly pulling you in. Favorite songs: I’ve Got You Under My Skin, You Make Me Feel So Young, and Makin’ Whoopee.
enjoyable go Frankie
Sure, it’s samey, but the big band songs are a soft spot for me
Frankie baby at his best.
Another surprise discovery. Frank usually leaves me feeling a little cold and I grow tired of hearing crooner music after about 10 minutes, but it was hard to feel mad listening to this. The arrangements are rich, the recordings stellar and Frank sounds like he's having the time of his life. Of course it feels a little cheesy, but that feeling of being in love should be. I can but think of the generations of people who have swung their loved ones around the dance floor, cheek to cheek, to You Make Me Feel So Young. While the music certainly is of it's time, you can't deny the timeless of the sentiments. In time the Rockies may crumble, Gibraltar may tumble, they're only made of clay. But SFSL is here to stay (sorry)
This is the kind of yearning I strive for. Thanks Frank.
I kind of have a headache at the moment, so let's see how this goes. So I actually vibed with this pretty well. Maybe it's because I was kinda craving 50s/early 60s music the other day so I was already in the mood for it, but whatever the reason this album was pretty cute and fun! I think my faves were "You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me", "I Thought About You", and "How About You". I also really liked the vocals and instrumentation on "We'll Be Together Again". Obviously I've already heard a few of these before, but it was fun to chill with this type of sound.
Notes: a lot of these songs have similar melodies which can be hard to differentiate which song is which. Lyrics are thoughtful and overall, the album's pleasant.
Pretty Cool
Muy bueno Frank aunque no eran mis canciones favs suyas
i don't know how to rate this, due to how Sinatra works as an artist: prolific, with a lot of performances of songs that are not written by him and an excellent vocal ability. In that sense, some albums like this are "perfect". I don't find anything wrong, they are a comfortable listening and despite not being something revolutionary, his voice is superb. How can you classify an artist so proficient and so out of your temporal zeitgeist, that you're probably oblivious to much of other references and factors to judge?
Some sweet lovey-dovey swing~ Honestly, I enjoyed it but most of the songs do sound very similar and there is little differentiation between them. One long sweet tune.
8/10
Loved this
perfectly enjoyable!
lives up to the name
yes
Good album
Smoooth. Very listenable. 70 years later it holds up incredibly well.
Just some good sinatra
It took me back in time.
Very memorable.
Nice album title, Frankie. And nice album too. I love just about every song on this album, it's such a nostalgic, comfortable, and romantic tone to the whole thing. Frank has a great voice as always, the band is on point, and it all comes together great.
There’s a reason these are considered standards and classics and that is because they endure. Much better than I expected.
Weird one to rate, obviously a good album but because Sinatra wasn’t an “album artist” all the songs kind of sound the same. Well made produced and great vocals though, would be a charming listen to have on in the background and to dance along to with a beautiful dame.
Lots of baggage/ antiquity when you’re appraising “The Chairman of the Board” (jazz-crooning will always exude a certain schmaltz), but Sinatra’s voice really is something to admire. The kind of legend that requires owning at least one album, I’d say, if you’re a connoisseur of American Pazz & Jop.
I like this a lot. Love me some old time swing and Sinatra is great!
What can i say? it's Frank Sinatra. Have listened to some of his ep's in the past, either trough popular culture or just memes. Dude's the face of a very specific time period it seams. Album was good, very easy to listen to music, very beautiful orchestration. Highlight of the album: I've got you under my skin, mostly in part due to Cole Porter's beautiful composition.
Frank should indeed be heard before you die. Listening to this I get a pep in my step and just a little bit more enjoyment from the usually mundane.
Fun vibes a good time with frank
I like Sinatra's stuff from the '60's better, but this will do in a pinch. Sinatra as a person, and the way he got and stayed big, are not so great when looking at it from a modern lens. But, his voice is amazing, and his music is the epitome of post war American crooning.
Belle découverte!
Good
I have more than just this Sinatra album, but honestly, this one on its own might be enough. It plays through like a greatest hits album. Anytime I’m in the mood for Ol’ Blue Eyes, this album will never disappoint.
I’ll never be mad at listening to Frank Sinatra, this was always going to be a fun one. I think when I first applied to uni I used a quote from Sinatra to begin my personal statement. God knows what it was, I think I just watched High Society one too many times. Anyway I think that there should be a Frank Sinatra record on here, whether it’s this one remains to be determined for me I think.
It made me want to walk around New York around Christmastime.
Frank
He croons and he croons. This album is insanely incredibly one note because every song follows the same vocal structure for him, but also like bro it's frank sinatra he's the goat and it was extremely enjoyable. I was doing laundry while I was listening and it felt like I was in fallout a little bit which was fun.
8/10
Its frank, its good music. Its a shame that all the intrumentals are basicly the same. But its still amazing.
I can't describe why, but Sinatra scratches an itch in my brain no other artist can. It's just plain good
3.6
definitivamente steve rogers escucharía este album, entiendo el concepto clásico pero todas las canciones suenan igual
He may have been a bastard but he put together one hell of an album.
однообразный, но славный!
I'd say this is the most classic Sinatra. Clear, confident, swinging.
Noemie music!!
Otroligt trevlig bakgrundsmusik. Härlig Sinatra-jazz. Underbart. Pennies from Heaven!
One of the best Frank Sinatra albums made in collaboration and with arrangements by Nelson Riddle. Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: n/a Best Songs You Make Me Feel So Young Old Devil Moon Love Is Here To Stay I've Got You Under My Skin Makin' Whoopee
Lovely vibes!
A great album full of fun and smooth crooning.
7.5/10
I like Frank Sinatra
Very sweet album. Absolutely loved it!
invented music
It is May 1956 and you are Frank Sinatra. Your arm curls around your new girlfriend (was it ‘Dottie’?) as you both gaze out the window of the Pan Am Clipper taxiing for the morning flight to New York. You are Frank Sinatra and you are on top of the world. The new album is in the can and it’s the perfect soundtrack to your life. Miami was a whirl of sun, beach, ocean swims and at least three other girls you cheated on Dottie with. You gaze into her happy brown eyes and she gazes back and neither of you care that your dick has its own fan club. That’s just how it goes when you ride with Ol’ Blue Eyes. Enjoy it while you can, babe, before you’re just another tale of conquest shared with the Pack. The perks are more than worth it. You are Frank Sinatra, and as the plane angles for takeoff the sunlight crosses your eyes and makes them gleam like diamonds. You think, come fly with me.
Good album, American song book stuff, very listenable.
The best songs to break things.
Okay Frank
Smooth as butter. This is one of those albums that feels so effortless for the band & Frank Sinatra. Brilliant musicianship and vocals, which I imagine would have blown minds in the 50s. The flow feels quite one note, but that's not that bad of a thing when the listening is so pleasant and enjoyable.
Love!
You can’t go wrong with Frank. Probably my favorite of his studio albums
Who can resist the ultimate crooner singing these timeless songs? Two big thumbs up.
ну вайб
Great album, and fantastic voice. Timeless
Hard not to love a crooner album from Frank Sinatra.
Starts off with You Make Me Feel So Young; great start. Very relaxing.
Classy, suave and charming. Hard to give it less than 4.
You cant really hate anything here. A great album to stick some wallpaper up too. Classic bangers - you make me feel so young, pennies from heaven, under my skin, anything goes
3.5 really as I think Frank's a greatest hits man.
YyyYessss Please. Finger clickin' goodness Found myself strutting round my 'ouse... In a good way! Some sort of Extravagant fucking Quiche.
Can’t go wrong with Frank, man of many hits that you can put on and enjoy anytime
Spittin’ straight fire for 40+ minutes. Go off Frank 😤
It's Frank Sinatra, classic music just can't really go wrong
Sinatra wie er war. Sehr schön
I really like this album because I like this genre of music. it gives me positive emotions, and I would listen to this album again.
The epitome of cozy music. Sinatra may be one of (if not the) most charming singers to ever grace a record and though this album is not as exciting as later productions, there is not a single song in sight that I would skip. Best Songs are You Make Me Feel So Young and the heavily underappreciated Old Devil Moon. 8/10, play this whenever the silence is too loud.
sinatra is always a joy. felt like Christmas with some of the songs. about halfway through I started listening to another one of his albums, then rounded finished this album out
l love this album, but cannot listen constantly
Good
Good stuff, a little too love songy for the mood I was in
I really enjoyed it. It's just so pleasant to listen to. Anything Goes is a banger.
And they say today's music is racy! Haha! Classic
Absolutely amazing. Smooth vocals, great instrumentals, exceptional storytelling. My only take away is lack of difference in songs. Sort of sounded similar instrumentaly but it was very pleasant to listen to despite this. Doesn't reflect it's age in a bad way at all. My appreciation in heightened as a instrument player my self and lover of older songs. Beautifully curated, a challenge made to seem easy. Reflects a confident, loving aura. 4/5. Would recommend to anyone.
Lo mejor que hizo Frank fue volver el jazz mas digerible para todos, todo un rey
What a crooner. I’m going to go eat a big pasta dinner now.
There’s some great classics in here! It’s a bit samey-same but really well done.
They all kinda sounded the same but I like it
I would probably never "choose" to listen to Sinatra, but I have always enjoyed the music. 7/10
I'll give this 8/10. Great to work to, some classics on here that will be familiar to everyone. I'll be buying this album on vinyl as it's a great album to have on in the background when people are around. Can't give it higher even though I loved it as it wouldn't be in my general rotation of music that I listen to, but I still rate the album very highly.
It's difficult to not be in a good mood with Sinatra playing through the house. Fun fact: he wrote the song Makin' Whoopee about his year as an intern at the whoopee cushion factory
Classic
Il est bon le sinatra
Bon y'a pas beaucoup de changement mais c'est super chill détente bonne ambiance. Je mettrai ça quand Alex viendra et on fera comme la cover ^^
I’ve listened to this and I love it. Makin’ Whoopee is on this album! Easy 4 stars
Old blue eyes is always a good listen.
love, whiskey, sex, cigarettes, kissing
Killer arrangements. Frank great as always.
Ok, its a classic! Great for reading a book or cleaning
just a classic background album
A lot of 50s stuff we've had so far is kinda lo-fi and feels dated in a certain unadventurous kinda way, the arrangements here are so gorgeous and colourful and playful though, I really rate Frank's work here too! Have to give it a 4
if i was in love or even had a crush this would be very moving. alas, i am too single to love it
My parents had this album
It's hard for me to review this album. It's absolutely a vertebrae in the backbone of American pop culture. There's not an American out there who hasn't heard at least a snippet from one of these songs. However, where it fits in the culture or how it influenced other aspects are somewhat opaque to me. I did enjoy this album, I would absolutely listen to it again, but don't know which circumstances would call me back to it. Hard to describe, I guess ⭐⭐⭐.75
really album!! It makes me feel like i'm in a fancy restaurant with good music, very cozy :)
Feel good 90s rom com vibes
!!!
THIS IS SO LOVELY
sinatra is him
Great classic album
very classic very swing
favorite - Too Marvelous For Words 8/10
This album makes you want to be/fall in love and I say that as someone who is a romance cynic. It does get a little repetitive after a while but I would put this on at a swanky dinner party and just vibe out. I get the Frank hype.
when i am i going to listen to this with my swinging lover
awesome!! it makes me feel like I'm in a 90s christmas movie
Great stuff. 4 *
instruments were beautiful, his voice was amazing, i love how you can listen to jazz to dance or sleep. but some of the songs did start blending together. overall amazing
I enjoy some of Frank Sinatra. This was a solid album though, despite not knowing most of it previously.
Sinatra's voice is as smooth as silk and Nelson Riddle's score is smoother. Absolute classic.
so beautiful, clear and romantic. Sounds and feels incredible. 8/10
lovely 60s music
frank sinatra really is that guy. he has such a charming voice and quality that it's hard to not feel like you are the main character in a movie when these songs are played.
Classic frank sinatra sound. Not my jam liked a few songs nothing special
1/2/26
Really starts off with a bang. Overall it's a very enjoyable listen. His voice/lyrics are unique and timeless.
Listening was so delightful, the songs are really joyful, lowkey make me wanna dance
So smooth!
Smooth
🤌🏽
Easy baby!
Classic Frank
I wouldn’t add these songs to my playlist but when I’m just getting ready or driving or smth this would be good to play whenever I’m feeling jazzy. Added to profile!
Classic, good one, even though I’m not a big fan of that music
god forbid a man love swing Would I listen again? On vinyl Deserves to be on this list? There's probably a better Frank record, right? 4.4
It’s like Fallout!
Jazz is so hard. Listening to this album and trying to follow the chord progression on guitar and I had to tap out 7 tracks in. Too many failures. I think it’s a shame that like Frank Sinatra had every resource available to make this kind of huge cinematic bombastic music when it rips so hard off black artists, but also I don’t think we can throw out the baby with the bathwater; these songs are incredibly well orchestrated, the songwriting is too notch, and Frank’s voice is so full of mystery and life, everything just sounds so classic.
Classic stuff, hard to argue the impact and legacy here.
It’s hard to imagine where this album falls in Frank’s catalog seeing that he recorded 59 studio records. But it sure does seem that he’s firing on all crooning cylinders with this effort. Just brilliant. Optimistic. Timeless. Even more difficult to imagine is the fact that it was recorded 70 years ago. And yet it feels just like yesterday. Drop the needle on this anytime, any place and life just gets better.
I couldn’t tell you what separates this album from his many many others, but I guess that’s kind of the point. Just great, would listen to this all the time
Man, Frank is just so dang solid. Not sure where this fits in his discography but everything he does is just so consistently enjoyable.
Frank Sinatra is absolutely amazing definitely a great starting point in terms of an album of his. I listen to this while riding on a lime bike and it was amazing gave a great calming and almost Christmasy feel but something that is timeless also. Was able to share with my girlfriend too who is also a big fan of Frank Sinatra great listen all throughout
‘Ol Blue Eyes was a treat to listen to. Just enjoy the vibe.
There's just something about it with these old-timey standards, they're just so charming. Perhaps it's the Big Band instrumentation or it's something else but It gives a good 50s vibe. you know, when people were lived life slow, and fear of being nuked back to the stone age, and being explicitly racist (more than today at least.) Highlight Song/s: "It Happened In Monterey"
It’s hard to pull monothematic albums off - even for Frank Sinatra. But I think he does it really well. I like his sense of humor and I even learned a new expression - I’m not a native speaker so I had no idea what Makin‘ Whoopee means. Thanks for teaching me. So yeah it’s Frank - he is a legend and I enjoyed this album a lot. This album is a dreamscape making me nostalgic for supposedly simpler times I’ve not seen.
Once again, here's Nelson Riddle and his orchestra drowning out some solid (and some great) songs and a perfect voice. And this rendition of Anything Goes, a song that is dear to my heart, is way too slow and syrupy. It would dishonor my father's memory to give this less than a 4 but I didn't like it that much.
For all the cultural iconography surrounding Sinatra, it’s easy to forget that at his core he was a fucking phenomenal singer. Legendary womanizer, abuser and all around asshole, it doesn’t overshadow a masterful performer at his prime. This is a hell of a record, and even when I didn’t love the song, I was in love with Frank’s performance. Perfect vibes even if Frank wasn’t the easiest dude to deal with.
very romantic and chill, perfect for a december evening
Saucy for the 50’s!
Aura.
Beautifully crafted, wonderful music, but a little boring at times. As I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate Sinatra's singing more. Years ago, when I played drums, I practiced to his music as his band was unparalleled. But I always found his singing too pop-y, too produced. But what a gorgeous voice. It remains "Christmas" music for me, i.e. it's music I gravitate too when the days are short, when the weather outside is frightful, and I want to bring some cheer into the house. On any given day, I'm still 10x more likely to listen to Duke Ellington or Nina Simone, but I've finally come to appreciate Sinatra.
It's remarkable how long Frank takes to get to any individual note. Just about every phrase is full of sliiiides to get there, and usually singers like Robert Goulet become the butt of jokes for it. Not Frank. It feels perfect. Subtract a star because these don't feel like the best songs. They're canonical, but they're boring — at least today. I don't know his records, but I'm certain that he has songs that communicate a little more feeling under the heavy varnish.
Good vocal jazz. Great for date night! Immaculate voice.
How can you not like this.
"Songs for Swingin' Lovers!" sounds like my childhood in the best way — growing up, we spent one weekend a month in Chicago visiting my Italian Nana, often driving into the city to get a bit of culture that wasn't available in our modest hometown. I have all these sense memories of Frank … but, here's the catch: I don't remember actually listening to Sinatra at any point in my childhood. I think I've created some narrative of his role in my life that is entirely romantic, an amalgamation of Nathan Detroit, Danny Ocean, Joe Piscopo, Phil Hartman, Johnny Fontane, "A Jolly Christmas", and a half dozen mob movies that I love to revisit. Honestly, it feels suitable for the man in question, so much larger than life, to have implanted himself into my life story without having to earn it in its crucibles. This is a fine collection. His charming vocals are unstrained and borderline lazy, but every weird phrasing choice imbues them with so much personality. I can barely tell when one song ends and the next song begins, but for 45 minutes, I am transported to a life I apparently wish I could have had.
First Listen; 4; I did not have high expectations for this album. I thought that I'd think it pleasant enough but boring and similar sounding. Having said that, this was much catchier, more diverse, and catchier than I was expecting. This is actually something I would come back to listen to on it's own.
The man has a voice of liquid honey, and the band are playing reeeal nice. It's just a nice warm hug of an album. 3.5 rounded up.
you make me feel so young isch huuuuere geil omg s arrangmeent. er singt guet und het e suuuper stimmfarb aber s arrangement isch mindestens zweimol so wichtig wie er. ui s outro vo it happened in monterrey gad au. you're getting to be a habit with me typische guete swingsong über e abhängigkeit ide beziehig.
Romantic and swinging. Delivers as advertised
mmhmm easy listening
It's amazing what kinda lyrics you can get away with as long as you have an excellent singing voice and a great orchestra backing you up. Fun songs that make me wanna get up and dance around.
Ol' two eyes himself!
Sinatra is such a classic! Not my favorite collection of his but pretty great.
vibe fixe
A bit one note, but that note is very good
I never think of Frank Sinatra as having albums, but as an album this one is great. Lots of familiar songs but also the ones I was not familiar with were also good Biggest Hit I’ve Got You Under My Skin Biggest Miss Makin Whoopie Biggest Surprise You’re Getting To Be A Habit With Me
More of a background music while working for me.
This Frank Sinatra kid is definitely one to watch - he can really carry a tune.
Cool swing arrangements, but I prefer Sinatra more ballad-heavy. 4 stars
Probably my favorite Sinatra album I've heard. This style of Rat Packian vocal jazz standards has always felt really cool and comforting to me. Some great tunes here, including "I've Got You Under My Skin", "You Make Me Feel So Young", and "Anything Goes". 4 stars.
When this was released, there was no vaccine for measles. 70 years later, measles is fashionable again. Anyway let's talk about Frank. Amazing voice. Great performance by the band. All around good stuff and I can imagine my parents generation prancing around to it as they unwittingly filled the world with lead and asbestos, nuked Pacific islands in the name of science, etc. Nice but I probably won't listen again.
Love me some swing Its pretty milquetoast jazz but simple doesnt mean bad
Can't be mad about Frank Sinatra. Listening to this puts me in a good mood. I like the big band and all the brass instruments. The whole album is lighthearted and fun, just some feel good listening. I never realized before but Frank Sinatra is a master at talking on pitch - he generally doesn't sustain notes much. I think it's a style choice, it seems like it serves the genre and I don't mind it cause he does it so well. And then there were parts where he really belted it and I was reminded that he is a great singer too. The band is awesome. I like the occasional flute moment. Makin Whoopee was the only song that I wasn't into, mostly because the phrase sounds weird to me lol. The songs do get rather same-y after a while, if I'm going to listen to a whole album I like it to have an arch or a through story. Overall, nice sound, great musicians, solid style choices, it's a top notch example of the genre.
I remember someone told me Frank Sinatra was a bad singer with a good orchestra behind him and I agreed. I was wrong. 4/5 would chainsmoke to this album
Song For Swingin' Lovers! was an album i enjoyed quite a fair bit. I already have had experience with Frank Sinatra due to the prior two albums on this project that i did that were by him and i was expecting this one to be the best of the three, and i was completely right. This album did have all the Frank Sinatra staples i would expect from him, like the vocals and the Disney movie/Christmas violins and i feel like they are all at their best here. Granted the songs here do sound kinda samey as is expected of Frank Sinatra but i thought that the songs here were all good enough for me not to care all that much. This album gets a 3.5. Best Song: Pennies From Heaven Worst Song: Makin' Whoopee Side note: Since this is gonna be my last Frank Sinatra album, I'll rank them here; 1. Songs For Swingin' Lovers 2. In The Wee Small Hours 3. Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim
I enjoyed this more than I expected, flows very nicely and its got good rhythm. A little repetitive but overall enjoyable. Standout Songs: You Make Me Feel So Young You’re Getting To Be A Habit With Me Old Devil Moon I’ve Got You Under My Skin Makin’ Whoopee
Even though his songs and albums are so similar, I can't not like them. Always have a good time listening to Sinatra.
He really was so big for good reason, one of the classics. I'm not going to pretend that pretty much every song on this wasn't impressive with each arrangement. Frank would rizz me easily.
Some of my favourite tunes and some of sinatra’s best vocal work.
Fabulous voice, can see why he was so popular
Great songs, nice mood
Many classics. Examined as a whole, perhaps a bit samey.
Absolute classic, and great on the sunday morning!
Ahhh - the Original and the best when it comes to Swing. One of my Dad's favourites. Pretty timeless now thanks to modern crooners and they're all just pale imitations compared to this. Songs are perfect, the arrangements so smooth and it's Sinatra in his prime. This is his perfect album. Almost 70 years old, but still sounds sublime.
A really fun and swinging album.
Was wondering when Ol' Blue Eyes would show up for me. 50's swing & jazz are always an easy listen, made even more prominent by one of the greatest and most iconic vocalists in Sinatra. It's easy to forget that every track here is already an existing pop standard too. The way these were recorded and arranged by Nelson Riddle to become jazzier and hipper, molded right into Sinatra's wheelhouse, make these tracks feel almost brand new. Sure, almost every track here kind of operates on the same wavelength, but I do prefer an album of upbeat, swingin' tracks over an album of slow, crooning ballads when it comes to this era.
“Songs For Swingin' Lovers” was undoubtedly a milestone for both Frank Sinatra and music history, as it was with this album that he began singing and recording standards - for which, to my knowledge, he is still best known today. While his unique voice immediately makes every song his own, I'm not entirely sure that the arrangements and orchestrations, which of course no longer sound contemporary today, live up to this claim. Although I like swing and standards, I feel that this record is at the historical limit of what can still be fairly reviewed today – accordingly, it is also one of the oldest albums on this list. “Songs for Swingin' Lovers” is certainly a very good album, but it doesn't contain any of Sinatra's really big hits, and to me it just sounds too "standard" to give it five stars.
Really swings - each marginally too corny to want to relisten. Saved a song: N RYM: N
Loved it!!!
Did not disappoint. Very easy album to listen to.
If I were to point to an album of standards, it would probably be...an Ella Fitzgerald album, but Frankie could get a mention too.
Banger
Just put a smile on your face
I'm swingin'
One of his best!
Solid classic
Great songs not entirely my thing. Bit samey
The exacting precision of the instruments and voice make the slightest nuance amazing.
Hard to think that the voice of Peter Griffin has this guy as basically his idol. Frank is still the GOAT, but I think ol' Seth can give him a run for his money
You can tell by some of these reviews that some of yall did not live through the lounge revival in the 90s :). Frank is a top tier interpreter of the classic American Songbook. The arrangements are top notch. What's not to love? This is a fun album.
This album reminds me of my grandparents I love it
Virkelig dejligt swing-humørboost! Får mig til at tænke og føle gennem et lidt naivt og sødt “julet” filter
People used to be so horny
good album, knew most of the songs already without realising they were all on here.
Didn’t think I’d enjoy this one as much as I did.
I really loved it. Really classic and nice to dance to. I don’t usually listen to this kind of music but when I do I typically enjoy it. No surprises here.
Moi j'aime bien Frank Sinatra. Par contre peu importe l'album j'ai l'impression d'écouter de la musique de Noël ahah 4/5
Standard. The definition of standards. People of multiple generations were singing along before the end of the fist verse. Hard to evaluate when it's such ubiquitous wallpaper.
Really great stuff
It’s fun and classic.
Easy to listen to. Nice. Classic crooner voice, great backing band, makes you want to tap your toes. I liked it more than I thought I would. 4.
Fuck it. I own a bar and host karaoke and I should be sick to death of this man...but...damn it he's so smooth.
I'd drive with this driving crooner, baby. Nice songs for ethical non-monogamists. Also very funny there's a song about how having sex makes babies that was a chart-topper in 1956. Not much variety between tunes, but I'm not a jazz/swinghead so I'm probably missing something. The album lacks the dizzying heights of Sinatra's prior Wee Small Hours but this one's still great listening. As is often the case going through earlier albums it's refreshing with the shorter, more punchy track lengths here and the rich smoothness of the sound makes this feel like warm liquor on a cold evening. fav tracks: You Make Me Feel So Young, Anything Goes
I really went back and forth between 3 and 4 stars on this one. It's so cozy and lovely and full of optimistic and romantic love that it's hard to find flaw here. In fact, the only real issue I have is that there's only one sound and one theme throughout. But when you do one thing and do it well? 4 stars. Not 5 stars because, while immediately recognizable, I don't seek this out often and get tired of it easily.
My childhood soundtrack was my dad’s car cassettes: either James Bond scores or Frank Sinatra. So this one hits pure nostalgia. Nobody from the crooner era touches Sinatra’s effortless tone. Hard to believe Columbia dropped him, only for him to return and conjure something this smooth with Nelson Riddle. Every line is silk, every phrase perfectly timed.
Fun fact: this album cover is to scale. Frank Sinatra was 16 feet tall. And he likes to watch. He really likes to watch. It’s kind of a problem. Frank, just because you can easily peep in a second story window doesn’t mean you should.
I’ve always preferred Dean Martin, but Frank is also good.
Fun catchy songs.
Made walking around a train station so much fun. Felt like I was in Lego movie.
Muito bom, que voz, me sinto em paz escutando essas músicas
It is genuinely impossible not to enjoy this. The music makes just draws you in and makes you tap your feet, his voice is perfect for this, the lyrics are full of romance and wonder and its just a fabulous way to spend an hour. Deducting a star for making whopee because ewwwww
