Bongo Rock
Incredible Bongo Band3.5 The highs are high. Its fun. It is the basis for a thousand hip hop and breakbeat samples.
3.5 The highs are high. Its fun. It is the basis for a thousand hip hop and breakbeat samples.
4.5. Its got amazing pre crazy production and Jigga is on fire here. The soundtrack to 2001
Top 5 album of the 90s. If you don;t like this you probably loved some pure shit like Aerosmith or the Eagles. It's true.
harmonies.
Put this on , make a cocktail, cook dinner, enjoy life
harmonies.
He sings
One of a couple of the decent Knaye records.Production is timeless but the older it gets the more deficient as a rapper he sounds, imo
Ive heard it. They wrote sexy boy about me
ive been workin. like a dog
fly me to the moon!
Classic for a reason. True story. Mick wrote Monkey Man because he wanted a banana
Aersomith is good for Sweet Emotion. No when this came out. Life is too short to ever have to listen to this again and i will not re-do now. No, Nope, Puke.
I think I got this on cassette from Columbia 12 for a penny. "You might not like it now but you will" Stone cold killer. Dirk wears white socks.
i skipped this when it came out because, indie rock snob, but i got into her by the next one and it was good to sit down and re-listen to this with focus. Solid debut!
Soul n funk and politics oh my! So good.
ive listened to this album 1 million times. I own a set of garden Gnome Roses. Never a bad listen.
all the songs sound the same but in the best possible way (hi neil young, ramones, mark kozelek)
Kinda decent debut
Its totally hunky dory
the subject matter on this album is scary.
All over the map. Should be sold w a bong. Need to listen a couple more times, i think.
Great stuff. Odd sequencing, imo. Every dong is a jam or a make out session
Really dug this. Knew the hits, of course. Can't believe this is thew first time ive listened to it cover to cover. Timeless and great
Suave danceable psb
I liked it better then i thought i was gonna. Kinda in the thrash metal, slayer mold in my mind. Not a bad one to have on while working out.
Classic
funkity funk funk, funkity funk funk, look at Georgie go.
The only xmas album worth listening front to back besides the Low Xmas EP
Right about now, the prog funk brother. This album sounded like proto-phish. Not a fan.
Honestly we need half stars. 3.5 is legit. Fun record that launched a thousand glam rockers. Pretty great even if I never need nor want to hear Bang A Gong again. It's a nice day-starter this morning, hadn't put in on in a minute.....
im gonna need to listen to this 2 or 3 more times i think. there were moments that rubbed me wrong and moments i really loved. My snap judgement would be a 3.5. I could see it growing with repeats though. I'd love to hear a Nick Lowe produced version.
The only steely dan i ever wanna hear is Tony Soprano singing "Dirty Work" This is a big bowl.of suck.
Cant lie
proto 90s indie rock. 3.5 really. Repeated listens are rewarded. GBV and early Sebadoh fans will find common ground.
Maybe no vocals would make it better for me. Its like unicorns and castles. Isk. Was hard to get through for me.
Sweet Emotion is all I need from this band. Fine, sure. They are a solid/great bar band. Just can't stand Steve Tyler's voice and delivery and I already own the good Rolling Stones records so I fail to see the point. 2.5
Yasssssss. Its a good un
dope af.
nope. Proof that sales do not always correlate to quality
but i already own all the good Rolling Stones albums
kick it!
it really starts to come together on this one and Dylsan os the BEST
jagged pop. i love this record.
bleak never sounded so good. "Bruce Barry was a working man he used to drive that Econoline van"
solid commercial pop
im lost in the supermarket. i can no longer shop happily. 4.5
Love me love me. say that you love me. Like cotton candy.
just super pop. never a bad call to spin this one
Good stuff. This electronic thing might be a fad tho
PERFECT POP
Nebraska, Western Stars, Darkness, BITUSA, Born To Run, The River..... This is a really good rock record
A pretty great return to form. A late career solud set up for Blakstar
3.5 Bee Thousand is the best!
Run to the hills. Run for your life! Such a great record. Riff city
3.5. It has moments of great and turd but mostly solid.
If you can't find the groove the problem is you
Get stoned 1st
Classic blues rock. Quality. I had never listened to this before but i'm glad i did
Meh. 2.5
Flawless end to end. Keep your hands off the bay!
What a fantastic record. I have no idea how this never came to my attention in 2009.
devastating break up record. maybe one of the best ever. 4.5
A little to prog/noodley for my tastes but had a lot of good moments
First time listening and was surprised at how good it is. Thought it would be dour and i was so wrong.
I think this would benefit if it were shorter. 3.5
changed the game for ambient forever. Good shit.
Staten Island came to get down. Cash ruins everything around me.
So good
Best of the solo records better than everything except 36 Chanmbers
Stone Cold Classic, all killer, no filler
it's not bad chugga chugga
such a great morning driving album. Well, anytime, really but especially great at the break of dawn :)
What a debut
2nd best RM
Love the Native Tongue stuff.
4.5 would be 5 if not for Silver. They should have put Into the White or Manta Ray on instead.
OG classic. If you don't like this after a few listens, it's you.
Some bright spots, mostly turgid. I bet Phish fans would find a lot to love here. That was a slog
I think this is my fave EC. Today, at any rate.....4.5
Very pleasant. Will spin again. 3.5
Famous jazz
Such a perfect record.
One of the most perfect driving around the hills of Los Angeles at night albums ever. It's true
So good. You forget he's so much more than the overplayed tunes sometimes. At least I do. Subtle and direct. Not just stoner music but i was high when it was on
First time ever listening to this and it's remarkable that Sultans of Swing was sequenced so deep in the mix. Solid. 3.5
Great record. Especially when placed in the context of its time, what else was popular/prevalent. My only quibble is i think it is a touch too long and could have benefited from a lil trim.
Such a momentous leap in turntable culture.
solid. up and down. some great tracks and some dodgy ones.
perfection
3.5
Not many artists can release not one but 2 essential double albums with all killer, no filler, but we're talking Prince here. If you dont understand how amazing this is life is wasted on you
3.5 for me, really. I love it and it's also kinda just the same song sorta. Lyrics sure are rainbows and sunshine too lol
i couldnt force myself past the 5th track. And i feel like i endured enough to make me put on a Minor Threat record as a cleanser
zzzzzzzzzzzz
Genius level stuff.
Classic shite. The beating, bleeding heart of rock and roll's birth.
I never listened to any of the solo CSN stuff before untill this one (ive listened to PLENTY of NY) I was really surprised at how much i liked this. Will get into the mix now for sure. 4.5
It was ok. I'll giver it another go because sometimes records are growers.
Perfect
Purple perfection. Rock style
bliss
3.5 really. fun record
2.5/3.0 Not my bag but has it's moments. Super competent and if you like a light Jazz, early to mid 80s style, this might click for you. I liked the more downbeat tracks best. The dub vibe on the title track at the end was a pleasant diversion
The 2 singles (LA Woman, Riders of the Storm) are great. Otherwise, a lot of wank. The Doors Greatest Hits is the only Doors one needs.
My Favorite Bowie record.
Lick my legs, I'm on fire
So good. If you weren't alive at this time it might be hard to understand how foundational this one has been for the last 2 decades..... 4.5
4.5 It's a good un
solid 3.5 Sunny 60s
3.5 Cast of Thousands best Elbow, imo.
I probably play the S/t and SuperFuzz BigMuff more but this is probably their best. 4.5
4.5 Boom Bap, NY Gritty
It has moments and then it doesnt. The weakest most inessential white stripes. Prob 2.5
fun. fine.
2.5 that 1st song lasted a day and the Ayn Rand lyrics at the end were funny. Freedom isnt free!
the lyrics are very moving
4.5 "Well, I stand up next to a mountain and I chop it down with the edge of my hand" FUCK YEAH!
Its a good set but rather subdued for his live stuff thats out there.
3.5. The first track is grating but it's a delightful Sunday afternoon listen
No covers, no filler.
4.5
4.5 Would be a 5 if not for the of the time but still ill advised skit trend between songs.
THE BEST
Such a good listen and a great bookmark of its time. I think i actually like it more now then i did when it came out
i dont wanna listen to Steely Dan, no mooooore.
great stuff!
if you think peace is a common goal that goes to show how little you know
A special new band
4.5 ya gotta ding a bit for Maxwell and Octopus
butterflies and zebras, and moonbeams and fairy tales.
Solid. A weird, surprisingly compelling pastiche. And funny
BOTH VERSIONS RULE
I heard this Eno guy he worked with is ok too. Clasic goodness
Big bowl of nope.
I was expecting not to like this but it was rock solid
Pretty stellar 4.5
Its a perfect pop record. All killer, no filler
It was fine enough
It's a time capsule w one super clunker (social disease) and just a string of hits. Not my bag, nothing i'd ever put on myself but I grew up in North Jrz was in HS when this came out and pretty much could sing along to all of these. If you gotta do an 80s hair band this (and Poison) is the one
3.5
Great stuff
Enjoyable riffs. When they were still prime.
One of the all time, stone cold.classics. utterly timeless. ESSENTIAL
i can't stand Mustane's voice. rhythm section is tight. 2.5
I kinda neglected/dismissed this when it came out for some reason. It's super. Not my favorite or 2nd favorite Hot Chip but still. 3.5
i liked this much better in 2024 than in 1997. A Storm in Heaven is still their best, by far imo, but this was good.
3 decent songs and a whole host of boring dross.
4.5 classic
I hadn't listened to this since it came out. That's a shame. I don;t think it's a must hear sorta thing but i personally really dig it. 3.5
Top 4 Beck for sure! 4.5
Such a great time in hip hop!
A masterwork
The most over rated bamd in the history of music.
Historic and sounds great too
Its spotty but rhe spots are really good
Someone described this as "middle age Pet Sounds" so good
I havent spun this in so many years. What a mistake. A devastating great album. 4.5
4.5
4.6 great stuff
try not to shake yo ass
some great, some meh, compelling tho. With some gems
3.5 really. Pretty good stuff. Aged well
Alameda. (SIGH)
3.5. Bottom of Neil Youngs top tier by my ears. Some good, great, and a lil monotonous at times.
3.5 love thw DKs
3.5 super great guitar work. Never heard this before but will listen again
That was really good. Glad i finally listened to her and will check out more for sure
maybe a 4.5
3.5 solid
chill, easy, groovy
3.5 70's AM funk grooves. stoner summer jams
Fantastic!
No in 95, NO in 2024.
4.5 Some of the cream of the first wave Industrial class. I don;t speak French so for all i know the lyrics are about ducks and spiders but it POUNDS hard and gets drunk in a late night cabaret. Plays Kurt Weill is probably my fave YG but this is superb
it's 1981 and you are in Great Neck Long Island listening to the greatest ever Bar Mitzvah cocktail hour band, trying to grab those tiny pig in blankets before the server disappears.
Top 5 album of the 90s. If you don;t like this you probably loved some pure shit like Aerosmith or the Eagles. It's true.
That slim shady character is a menace
song 2 is annoying af but this has its moments
It's a flawless album
I hadnt listened to that in full in decades. More stylistically diverse than i had recalled. Solid. The singles are fantastic.
Not really my thing but it's decent. Epic is the worst track by far.
This was my first listen through and I'll go back to it again. Solid 3.5. That Van Morrison / Beatles cover mash up is its own thing and is pretty great.
There are a couple of misfires but otherwise classic
3.5, really.
Great stuff; groundbreaking too
solid
the middle child.
Perfect.
3.5 Pretty great
This guy should be so much bigger than he was/is. Great record
3.5 some filler but some of the greatest singles. Lodi will be in my head for a minute
pretty much the foundation to 2/3 of my favorite things.
as always, great production, horrendous vocals.
good stuff. foundational
some pretty good boom bap! He could be rapping about cheese and pencils for all i know of French but it sounds real good. Hadnt put it on in 30 uears but it held up rather nicely
3.5. Such strong singles
3.5. Perfect depending on time and setting
The last listenable Metallica. Still, I'd sooner put on / recommend Ride the lightning or Masters of Puppets
4.5 The most under-rated Pixies album
Would be a 5 star record if it was edited down to 2
I like this less than a lot of others, i know. I'm much nore apt to drop a diff BM album. But obv solid stuff. 3.5
Just a a nice record.
Everything from production to performance is perfect. Chicago bluesxat its finest
A couple of clunkers but night swimming alone makes ammends
Their one essential album
Call Me Al is unlistenable but it was ok overall.
A wonderful album.
Some very good, some meh
Glam, protopunk, cabaret. It was ok but not rely my bag.
4.5. Their peak.
2.5 for me.
Y this 80s cheese when there is so much better from b4?
Listening to the lyrics now it seems IC was anticipating 2024 in the USA.
One of the best records of the 90s. Post punk, minor key, existential dread loud and soft style. A litmus test for excellent taste.
No filler, all killer!
4.5
Odd. Challenging. a rock record with no guitar. I enjoyed it and will spin it again. Weed required. 3.5
this was pleasant. More mellow than i was anticipating. Def wanna give it another spin. Heatwave is a great song.
it had some good some bad some mediocre. 2.75
OG. Gangsta. Never fails.
1/2 of the songs were hits and the other half is moody wonderfulness. IMO his one essential album.
I prefer both singles band Stones and blues rocker Stones to mid 60s Stones but the songs are solid. Not essential IMO but also not a problem.
Wild. Wish i could time travel w todays Blue Dream to this club for this show. Hot dawg
I wish i could eat your cancer when it turns black.
3.5 really. Super aggressive and angular. RELEASE THE BATS!
3.5 surprisingly entertaining.
Ethereal loveliness
4.5. tell me i'm wrong, i dont really care
3.5 a solid, enjoyable thing. The last of the listenable Coldplay....
3.5 aggressive industrial post punk. "There's kerosene around there's something to do"
EZ listening.
stoner bliss
3.5 check out the Bill Fay cover of Jesus etc
The singles are so great. 3.5
Simply one of the greatest hip hop records of all time. The beats, his voice and flow, and the NARRATIVES he writes - perfection
Stoner headphone bliss
an impeccable late career masterpiece
3.5 some enjoyable stuff
3.5. I know many think this is the best album of the 70s. I think it's just really good.
Superior orchestral pop/folk.
3.5 groovy
The first of a great run
3.5 on songs. 5 on import and impact.
perfect "Americana"
4.5 almost flawless
I'll never understand The Streets' appeal. Maybeyou have to be British to get it, idk. Musically it's fine but not stellar. File under "Not for Me" but also not wretched. 2.5
2.5 i get y people like it. People are lame
Try not to dance. I recommend the 2 disc remaster release. 2hrs of awesome
I like these 2 artists paired on this album better than anything theyve done before or since. Just great roots rock
Hey Ho. Let's Go!
Not a bit of filler. Just perfect
3.5
4.5 stars. Very Very Good stuff. Pour a bourbon and sit back.
jangle pop rules
Probably Clapton's best. 3.5
Top 3 Bowie for me.
This is a good record. I should love it based on a lot of things I love. BUT I HATE IT. I think it's the vocals. IDK. Too much vibrato for me?
A foot in industrial, metal, and breakbeat "electronica" Perfect videogame soundtrack for sure. 3.5
4.5 it's wonderful
some really great tracks and a bunch of notsomuch
3.5 harmony and early rock energy
there are some really great moments mixed with some awkward misses. Still, Top 7 Beach Boys, prob Top 5. 3.5
Put this on , make a cocktail, cook dinner, enjoy life
One of the greatest albums of all time. Best break up album ever.
decent. Like Bruce D vocals better, personally
Give the poor man a break. 4.5 big beats
Lord this is is such a perfect sip your coffee on a weekend morning album. 4.5
4.5 Lorelei is perfect. Such a good album
4.5. That solo.
3.5 truly. Perhaps his peak.
swamp rock. is this their best? could be
No expectations going in. Super great. Easy to get lost in the sauce.
I HATE the single.
4.5. An essential album
Seminal. Always good to drive to.
Kinda middling.
This was the first time i heard this album. Some cringe moments but a lot of really great stuff. 3.5
Their best, imo. So good
One of the greatest albums of all time.
The transition album. "She says shes 68 but shes really 54"
3.5 The highs are high. Its fun. It is the basis for a thousand hip hop and breakbeat samples.
The spiritual more mellow bookend to DJ Shadow's "Introducing" great stuff
Hard to make a double album about a failed relationship sound so listenable. Imagine having to put this record out when it's your sister getting the shiv.
Stop
catchy pop fluff.
you either love Jaco or not I guess. The chords and lyrics are ace. It's a masterwork
3.5 really
Just a solid record
Perfection
3.5 solid psych blues. youll either totally get or totally hate the JJ vocals.
I deserve restitution for that. Abomination.
So good
Bloated
id like to hear a remastered version w no synths. it suffers from bad 80s production.
There is 1 good record here but not 2. Too much bloated filler.
essential
Progmetal aint my bag. If it's yours this will be a winner
I dont know how/why i missed this when it came out! Far superior to any of their subsequent output, imo. Great one to start the day with.
A decent follow up to the vastly superior debut. It kinda peters out for me the last few tracks. Boom boom boom boom
FUCK YEAH 4.5
Get high first, then get super comfy on the couch, then melt into it all. Was surprisingly good. 3.5
This was much better than i anticipated based on the only other Beefheart record ive heard (trout mask - ick) Slightly twisted blues based stuff. Ry Cooder brings some magic.
Very one note
Hurt alone. Such a towering icon. That late period voice, dripping with wisdom and sadness seen.
a singular and special vision
I nwver listened to this before but will again. Really, really good, innovative stuff. Even the remastered w extra tracks seem to go by fast 4.5
some gems and some middling dross worthy of a Dr waiting room
A perfect Sunday afternoon listen
Its this and hissing of the summer lawns for me. But this is just lovely
never listened to anymore than the greatest hits. this was a surprise, a revelation really. Surprised how good it its and what a nice growth in sound
it's s subtly great record
4.5. Its got amazing pre crazy production and Jigga is on fire here. The soundtrack to 2001
The highs are high, the lows are middling.
i don't listen to X enough and i dont know why. this is so good.
classic post rock. Separates the men from the boys as they say. You could be forgiven for being turned off by the insane vocals. But this is seminal
That was a dubby good time. Im glad i finally heard this.
3.5. The songs are all strong. Im on fire is top 15 Bruce. The production brings the affair down. Too much 80s, too much synth in front. Id like to hear demos/rough mixes of these songs, personally. 3.5
My 3rd Deep Purple album was alas, not the charm. The vocals make my skin crawl, the prog keys make my eyeballs hurt. Not for me.
Rock solid and steady
hip hop foundations with some 70s light soul. It;s a mixed bag.
solid
Good fun.
Great sigles. Top jimmy, panama. Drop dead legs and hot for teacher are stand outs. Jump the big single. Some.filler but solid
Fantastic anthemic indie debut
mediocre 2.5
4.5
not my favorite Kendrick (Mad City, then Damn) but his magnus opus so afar, no doubt.
Power pop and jingke jangle. Sweet stuff
3-4 standouts, some ok stuff, filler, a reprehensible closer. Honestly, the album from this band is ORANGE and then Extra Width. Just google the video for "Bellbottoms" - Orange is fun. This. Notsomuch fun.
Classic
straight up og country rock w a velvet voice.
Good stuff
gawd those harmonies.
there is some really good stuff and some meh stuff.
classic shit.
the US version w Dear God is the superior sequenced album.
