Siouxsie And The BansheesVery fun alternative band. Great vocals and good rhythms. Definitely reminds me of other indie bands that have since gained notoriety and that I'm a fan of. Good one.
Very fun alternative band. Great vocals and good rhythms. Definitely reminds me of other indie bands that have since gained notoriety and that I'm a fan of. Good one.
So groovy and fun. I forgot how much I enjoyed Shuggie's music. This is the first record I've listened to of his in its entirety and I was not disappointed. The soul and rhythm that's conveyed by Shuggie and his band is so capturing. Really enjoyed this record.
Classic artist and songwriter. Her voice, her lyrics, her harmonies and melodies - all beautiful. The passion and emotion she infuses in her music makes this record timeless and one to always feel empowered by. Grateful to have experienced Fiona during her peak.
Funky, worldly take on some classic hits. Appreciate records like this as they paint songs in a new perspective.
What a very unique record. I love the diversity and experimentation that it carries. Funky riffs, trippy scratches, psychedelic sounds and samples compiled together to make a spaced-out beat. This record is right up my alley. Had never heard of this group but Iβm definitely a fan now.
Very soft and easy listening. The name of the artist captures the feel of the music. Easy to get lost in.
Classic Beatles sound with many hits I didnβt realize were from this record.
Gritty, classic country vocals. Evolution of late 60s to 70s.
The iconic sound of Frank. An album to put me in a good mood for the rest of the day. Perfect for the beach - Hermosa Beach.
A familiar UK pop rock sound with some memorable hits.
Iconic vocals and sounds that The Smiths emit. Legendary.
Great guitar sound from a legend. Something I should explore more. Some hip hop samples found on this record.
Great 70s soul sound, with some hints of psych rock. Really nice listen.
Innovative and avant-garde. Bjork truly has her own sound, unlike anything else out there.
Haunting, mellow, and ambient sounds. Vocals add such an ominous touch, in a spoken word style.
Grunge, dirty, punk. Great record with many links to bands of my generation. Short and easy listen too.
Such a fun and vibrant record. Great use of samples while also incorporating original instrumentation. Good vibes record.
Classic, yet professional, blues rock sound. Not my typical cup of tea, but a nice listen nonetheless.
Classic RHCP that drove them to wild popularity.
Original, classic shoegaze sound. Easy sound to listen to, but can get a little sleepy at times.
Classic hard rock sound
Quality soul record from the past. Such good grooves.
Very Irish.
The old school sound of hip hop. Never been a huge PE fan, but respect what theyβve done for the culture.
Soulful old jazz, live in a club. Feels like it transports me back to another era.
90s commercial punk. Still pretty fun.
Can never go wrong with The Temptations. So groovy and funky. Vocal harmonies that I never tire of.
Happened to listen to this while on vacation based on a friendβs recommendation. Very calm and reflective record.
Distinct vocal sound and great rhythmic rock.
Fun rock record.
Epic rock record in the history of music.
Classic pop Prince. Not my forte, but it is timeless music.
Pop Jazz and Swing of the 50s. Great record to dance to and feel like Iβm in the past.
Melancholy 90s rock. Thin mastering.
Early British punk. Very lively and fun record. 3.5 stars.
Groovy, fun record that integrates many samples throughout. Electronic feel, somewhat reminiscent of Wax Tailor. Very entertaining.
Staple 80s sound with a lot of reverb. Pop-heavy with fun grooves to ride along to.
Very easy and flowing sounds. Vocalist adds great harmonies to what is already a comfortable instrumental listen. Great discovery.
Female punk with an energetic sound. The music is upbeat and inspiring. Would listen again.
Pure 80s sound. Very lively and upbeat dance music.
Very innovative sound for the time. Electronic synthesizer influence which offers a very unique sound.
Quintessential blues rock record and artist. Gritty and soulful sounds layered throughout.
Beautiful record. Haunting and imaginative compositions. A journey of dark symphonies with some touches of psychedelia.
Jazzy and melodic. Some great dance rhythms with a touch of psychedelia throughout.
Soulful, jazzy, rhythm. Reminiscent of a Big Band sound, but with much more of a groove. Fun listen.
Introspective, empowering, redeeming. Beautiful vocals laid over melodic piano. Very thoughtful and well-written.
Classic big band sound with Ellaβs beautiful vocals on top.
Very chill and mellow jazz. Easy on the ears and mind. Great listen.
A very cool rock n roll record. Energetic punk. Great riffs. Listen to this again.
Jazzy show tunes from my parentβs era. Very pleasant and easy to listen to.
Such a beautiful and inspiring record. Melodic and comfortable production that makes it sound so seamlessly woven together. Common is and will continue to be a legend.
Easy British punk to listen to. Very distinct and notable sound.
Christmas, Christmas, and more Christmas. Swingin holiday sounds from the 60s with such soul. Very quality Xmas album.
Jazzy, groovy 90s pop from a band that had their 10 minutes of fame. Unique sound for the time and it pushed the boundary for other styles to be discovered. Fun listen.
The Stones in their prime. Some nice hits on this record. Easy listen.
Spanish jazz with a very cool sound. Released in 1998 and its age is not recognizable.
Solid retro rock album with a distinct sound.
A hip hop legend. Forever a classic with production and lyrics that are timeless. Longtime favorite of this record. An icon of hip hop.
Nice early rock vibe. Somewhat reminiscent of The Beatles but with a unique enough sound to be their own.
Grungy with a little more melody than Nirvana.
Iconic rock sound during a milestone transition from hair metal to grunge. Awesome riffs, tones and singing. I see why people like this band so much.
What else can you say other than that this is one of the greatest records of all time. Iconic Michael Jackson making history. Practically a βBest ofβ in one album. A timeless piece. Easy 5 stars.
Vibrant, energetic, fun. Really electric record to listen to, especially to start a Monday morning as I did today. Some classic hits on here.
Fun rock record with some catchy tunes. Early relative of modern rock.
I just canβt get into this band. I love the Irish, but apparently not their music.
Funky, trippy, wacky. Introspective and self-aware sound. Topics of life, death, society and politics. Very unique listen.
Marley is always so easy to vibe to. My ear is not experienced enough to distinguish so well between his records, but always enjoyable to re-visit him.
Classic 80s sound with some notable hits. Years ago I likely wouldnβt ever listen to this, but this is a fun and engaging record.
Melancholic at times, but also very melodic and rock pip. Makes me think of Future Islands.
This is too inconsistent. No fluidity and the vocals are uneasy on the ears. The music just isnβt good.
Some years ago, I likely wouldnβt have wanted to listen to this. Now, I actually enjoyed this record a lot. Has some very nice melodies and catchy tunes that arenβt overbearing. Maybe Iβm a bit of a U2 fan now.
Wild, rocking, thrilling. Jack White carries such an eclectic energy with him in every release heβs a part of. Not an every day listen, but very entertaining and a great live performer.
Funky, worldly take on some classic hits. Appreciate records like this as they paint songs in a new perspective.
Cool old rock record. Some catchy tunes. Worth a re-listen.
The first descriptor that came to mind for this record is theatrical rock. Elements of folk throughout, but it also reminds me of a circus at times with its vibrant and wacky sounds. Enjoyable listen still.
Really only giving this album 3 stars because of the singles from it and how much it reminds me of my younger days, due to how much play they got at parties and social venues. They sound like a different band between the first and second tracks. Axlβs voice isnβt that irritating to me as it seems for others based on reviews here; I actually dig the unique sound he brings. Slash shreds - especially on βMy Michelle.β Also, how the hell are some of you spending so much time writing these long reviews? We have 1001 albums to do! More power to you. This genre always makes me think that this is the extent of the stereotypical Trump supporterβs knowledge of music. Anyways, make sure to vote, everyone. Love ya.
As soon as this record starts, a sense of calm and serenity envelops me. Mr. Wonder is one who provides soul with its definition and has created music that is truly timeless. His sounds have resonated across generations and will only continue to do so. What a great time to be alive in part thanks to this man.
Absolute classic in hip hop and music. What De La has done with this record is left a profound impact on music for generations. Funky, fun, and inspiring. It never gets old.
Does Peter Gabriel sound like Phil Collins or does Phil Collins sound like Peter Gabriel? This music is a bit wonky and silly, but itβs not terrible. Not something Iβll likely revisit, but I appreciate it for what it is.
Very chill psych rock. So easy on the ears and a wide variety of melodies and harmonies. Familiar with their music, but this is a reminder that Iβd like to become more familiar.
Sultry, smooth, funky and sexy. Prince captivates so much of what we know as such a unique and let-loose sound. He is a legend for his presentation and performance. This album is likely a 4 or 5 for many, but Iβm not so enthralled with Princeβs music, but I give a 3/5 as the music is still very fun.
Bonnie Raitt is an artist that I've known of, but have never actually listened to intentionally. I always equated her to being just another country artist. This record was a really nice listen that was very easy on the ears and she has a wonderful voice. The content is relatable as she talks about love and companionship. The music is 80s cheesey at times, but it's still pleasant. A welcomed surprise.
Soft, easy listening, as expected from Mr. McCartney. The tunes are pleasant and the lyrics are well written. Not an every day listen for me, but I enjoyed this one.
Sullen, beautiful, poetic and mysterious. Of course, Leonardβs voice is iconic. Each track feels like a story is being told to me. The music is haunting, yet keeps me engaged and focused on the tale being told. A legend in his own right.
His voice is difficult to withstand. The music is a bit plain and uninspiring. Lyrics are the best part of it all, but again, difficult to listen to with the voice that is carrying them. Iβll leave Neil Young for others to enjoy.
Funky, fun, energetic, positive and electric. What a nice record that just simply makes me feel good. Needed this kind of album right now.
If only I could see a statistic of how many times Iβve listened to this record. This is one of the most impactful albums in my life as it shaped a lot about how I view and perform musically. I was an enormous Incubus fan in high school and just started learning how to scratch records. DJ Kilmore was a major influence and inspiration. This record is beautiful, rough, moving and motivating. It connects me with emotions that I forget about every time I listen to it. Brandon Boydβs voice is mesmerizing and his range is captivating. The band as a whole are extremely talented and Iβm happy to see this record on here. 5/5 record for me.
Country isnβt my usual forte, but this is very good. The mood, the writing, the vocals, the instrumentation - itβs all very serene and harmonic. This is one of those records that reminds me why Iβm doing this project.
A wild circus of music that is electric and engaging. Freddie Mercury is such a showman. Thanks to my British father, Queen was a mainstay of my childhood and Iβm still a fan to this day. This is a nice reminder of my youth.
A classic record for the ages. Typically not what Iβd listen to regularly, and this was the first time Iβve listened to this record in full and it really has a great sound. Ozzy has an iconic voice and the music that accompanies is well harmonized and simply rocks. Really enjoy this one.
When I was younger and less experienced with music, Iβd like stuff like this. Now this sounds very cheesy and corny. Ska and jam band music isnβt for me.
Such a fun and funky album.
What a beautiful record. So peaceful and smooth throughout. Something about the different takes that this group presents and how well they all vibe together. Always a fan of Bill Evanβs Trio.
What a beautiful record. Hadnβt listened to this in its entirety but Sir Elton John has always been an artist Iβve admired; this record further solidifies that. The mood that the songwriting and instrumentation brings is heartfelt, fun, and nostalgic. Itβs records like this that make me happy to be a part of this project.
Beautiful compositions. At times itβs almost mesmeric how the melodies capture my attention. Wish I could have seen this live in concert.
This makes me think if the Beatles and Van Halen had a musical baby. Not as bad as I was expecting this record to be. Kind of a fun record.
Such a quintessential 60s rock sound in the US. Very easy on the ears and melodic throughout.
Quirky, spacey rock. Positive vibe throughout and fun to listen to.
Fantastic record. Great melodies and vocals with an upbeat tempo. Classics that I had heard before but didnβt realize was this group. Very good listen.
Revolutionary record that was very much ahead of its time. Passionate and emphatic music and lyrics. This record is a milestone for hip hop.
Solid alternative rock record, reminiscent of many elements that were popular of the time. At moments they sound like Fall Out Boy and others like Soundgarden. I dig this.
Classic soul record with some iconic grooves. Vibrant and electric mood throughout. Perfect party atmosphere.
Quintessential Elvis Presley. This album really captures his character and musical ability. Not someone I listen to regularly, if at all, but this is a really nice record.
This kind of music is just too cheesy for me. Reminiscent of a lot of bad 80s music. I couldnβt finish this record. Itβs not a one star, but damn close.
Very cool and easy record to listen to. Playful and melodic with a very welcoming mood.
Somber, minimal, and moving. Very smooth and chill record to listen to with moving writing and tone. Solid record.
Funky, quirky, British. Fun record with a theatrical feel to it. Bowie is a unique one for sure.
Grungy, hip, moody. Great vibe to this record and has some funky sounds. Was not familiar with this band at all before this project. This is one Iβm happy to have discovered.
Somber, melancholic and calm. Very subdued singing and music that makes for a sometimes eerie effect. Beautiful compositions and melodies.
Absolute classic record and one of hip hopβs iconic albums of all time. A pivotal moment in the shaping and progression of hip hop to help cement its place in music as such an important style. Long live the Chef!
Very iconic 80s sound with theatrical chords and progressions. The vocals are tinny and vibrant, naturally melancholic sounding. Decent listen.
Very hip and cool rock record. Some classics on here I didnβt know were from Iggy. One of those really solid albums Iβm happy to have found through this project.
Wonky, cooky, and playful. Not really my forte of music, but can be fun every now and then.
Very energetic and lively. Reminds me of music Iβd hear on a TV sitcom.
In the lexicon of quality hip hop that was available in 2003, 50 was not one of the artistβs I primarily listened to. Coming back to this record and listening now, Iβm reminded of how many hits this album had and what production influence it had and defined for the era. Not sure Iβd recommend this as an album for someone to listen to before they die, but it is an important part of hip hop history. Also, there are a lot of angry white folks in the comments for this album - that makes me happy as a white man that loves hip hop and mostly all genres of music. The closed-minded will always be among us.
Iconic sound with a lot of hits I didnβt realize was this group. Fun, party type of vibes throughout with some introspective lyrics on others. Solid record.
Might be the weed I smoked, but this record transported me from reality and took me on an eccentric journey I was not expecting. The sequence of songs and beautiful melodies throughout were mesmerizing. This is another one of those records Iβm very happy to have found from this project. Bravo, Janelle. ππ»
Very melancholic and grungy. The Pumpkins defined a sound of a generation of angsty teenagers. Listening to this record again after some decades, it still doesnβt resonate with me and it didnβt when I was an angsty teenager. Itβs not a terrible record, just not my kind of sound, but I appreciate what it represents and how it shaped the landscape of music.
Beautifully-composed record with such a haunting, somber vibe, as Radiohead does so well. The blend of instrumentation with electronic influences makes Radiohead so unique in their own way. This record is seamlessly great and stands the test of time through and through.
Grungy, gritty, rock and roll. Underground style with its own personality. Had never heard of this band before but I dig it.
A bit bland and stale throughout. Not my favorite Bowie record, but itβs still Bowie.
Fun, lively and energetic. Canβt say I was familiar with this artist before this project, but this was a pretty entertaining record. Some unique sounds and compositions.
Never heard of this before. I dig its folky and easy-going charm. Has a bit of an ethereal, spaced-out mood throughout. Nice one to drift off and chill out to.
Dreamy, surfy, grungy rock. Not bad, but not typically what I like to listen to. Vocals are a little shrill but itβs okay. Meh/5.
Classic 90s alternative rock sound. Nothing really drawing or unique about this sound, but still brings some nostalgia, even though Iβve never listened to this band before.
One of my favorite records. Vocals are fantastic - haunting, sexy, gloomy. Such a sensual sound throughout with a funky, dreamy vibe. The sequence of music is soothing and seamless; a breath of fresh, comforting air.
Groovy, rhythmic and sultry jazz sounds. Some real funky and mysterious tunes on this record. Hadnβt heard of this before but it is a very welcomed surprise.
Had never heard of this group. They got some quality late 90s alternative sounds and they can definitely jam at times. This was enjoyable.
This feels like Country music just before it started getting very Pop-esque and borrowing from Hip Hop. The record has a lot of twang, but a lot of rhythm as well. The writing is quite quintessential as far as Country music goes. Pretty decent.
Classic artist and songwriter. Her voice, her lyrics, her harmonies and melodies - all beautiful. The passion and emotion she infuses in her music makes this record timeless and one to always feel empowered by. Grateful to have experienced Fiona during her peak.
Rocking, gritty, jamming sounds. A record with a variety of instrumentation and rhythms, with some improvisationaly-wild vocals at times.
An absolute classic record and staple of their discography. Such a beautiful, easy sequence of tracks to listen to, showcasing the bandβs evolution. The songwriting, the rhythms, the melodies, itβs so damn catchy. This is one that make this band who they are. A milestone of music history.
From The Beatlesβ βRubber Soulβ to Slipknot - this is why I love this project. Iβve been listening to Slipknot for a couple decades now and theyβve always held a special place in my black heart. I donβt listen to them often, but I always appreciate the versatility and diversity of the bandβs musicianship. They have like 8 members in their band, each with a unique addition. I think they have like 2 DJs or something, one being a turntablist. Their sound is gritty, hard, aggressive, yet also beautifully melodic and harmonic. They cover a broad spectrum of musical ability and act as a great stepping stone into the metal genre for those unfamiliar. I wasnβt familiar with this record, but Iβm glad I am now. Keep slaying.
Decent country record thatβs easy to listen to. Mostly relaxed tunes with some upbeat tempos as well. Not an every day listen, but Iβll revisit it.
Melancholy with an upbeat pop sound. Morrissey is unique in his own right without question. His songwriting is captivating while also somber. Content can get repetitious after some time, but his voice is unique enough, along with the melodies of the music, to keep my attention. Love The Smiths, and Morrissey solo efforts are exactly what I would expect from the former frontman.
It is very impressive that this record came out in 1988. I know Metallica, but I didnβt know this specific record. The music thrashes and slays with gritty vocals and hard-hitting instrumentation. The drums are so tough and the guitars represent the genesis of metal music. This is a great album.
This sounds like an English rock band doing their best impersonation of an American rock band, with a little country blues and twang interspersed. This is a fun, rocking record throughout. Really enjoyed this one, but itβs not one I see myself listening to regularly.
Wild to think this record turns half a century old this year (2024). Iβve known of Kraftwerk and their influence on other artists I love, but I have not listened to a record of theirs in full, and this is a really great one. The development of these tracks is very innovative and charming. It takes me to a different world, enveloping me in a robotic soundscape, full of imagination. This is a really nice one that I will certainly revisit.
Dreamy, wavy and hypnotic. The music is very somber and smoothing, and Beckβs voice only adds to that. This is a really easy listen and quite calming. Really dig this one.
The musician known as Thundercat is an extremely eclectic, charismatic and entertaining funkematician. His music is silly, creative, playful and downright relatable. Heβs always a fun listen and a great live performer if you get the chance. Listening to this record while riding my bike and caught someone singing along to βFriend Zoneβ as I rode by. Thatβs part of the power and understanding that Thundercat has broadcast to the world. Absolutely solid record.
This band has always had a stigma against them and generally, Iβve agreed with it and have not ever liked the corny or cheesy rap-rock sound they produce. Regardless, I still listened to this album in its entirety to stay true to this project and give it a chance. Although Iβm still feeling the same about what I think of the music, I have some respect for the lead singer (RIP) given his story and how he carried himself through life, as I read his Wiki while listening, specifically when interacting with fans. I likely wonβt ever listen to this record again, but Iβll give it 3 stars as it wasnβt as unbearable as I thought it might and the humans that make up the band seem like decent folks.
Soulful, bluesy, chill. This is a really nice record that I wasnβt familiar with before, nor the artist. Elements of folk, rock, blues. Itβs enchanting and mystical, capturing a sound that seems much older than it is. Very easy on the ears and mind. Will revisit this one in the future.
What a very unique record. I love the diversity and experimentation that it carries. Funky riffs, trippy scratches, psychedelic sounds and samples compiled together to make a spaced-out beat. This record is right up my alley. Had never heard of this group but Iβm definitely a fan now.
Country is not typically my forte, but this project has gotten me to come around to it, mainly because of records like this one. Classic country has such a pleasant affect on my ears and with vocals like Emmylouβs, itβs easy to melt into her soothing harmonies atop gentle guitar melodies. Her writing is both somber and inspirational and leaves me wanting more. Great album.
This is what I call theatrical rock. Itβs almost circus-like at times with the instrumentation and melodies. Not my favorite but not my least favorite. Likely wonβt revisit this though, but at least I now know a group called The Stranglers exists!
Passionate, somber, and reflective. Cobain sings with such ferocity and grit. His voice and lyrics will forever be remembered, layered on top of melodic and sometimes aggressive guitars and drums. Nirvana was a pivotal transition in music and created pathways for many more types of music to surface. This record has some really great hits and sounds that are timeless. RIP Kurt.
This record shrrreeeeddddsssss. Every song is a hit and distinct from the others, yet its sequence is seamless. Ozzy is forever a milestone figure in music and will always be remembered as such. His vocals, lyrics and cadence over top of such menacing guitars is awesome. This record will be getting many replays in the future.
80s music before the 80s. Soft vocals and rhythmic music, and a little wonky at times. Not my cup of tea, but itβs not bad. I can hear their influence in other artists I like.
Hair metal genesis. This band thrashes and rocks on this record. Never been a big Judas fan, but I can appreciate what they did for music. This record is what I thought it would be, and thatβs okay. No other strong emotions about this one.
Easy on the ears and playful. Not what Iβd usually listen to, but Eno is alright.
Two Talking Heads records in the same week. They are a wonky band but their music is fine. This record was not as cheesy as the other one, and had a more polished feel to it. Might go back and listen to this one again.
One of the greatest records. Always reminds me of my late [British] father who introduced me to the Beatles at a very early age. The range of musicianship on display is practically unparalleled and we understand why the Beatles are considered one of the best. Such elite-quality diversity spun throughout this project which is why I give it such a high rating. The band was on a high and they rode it so well in the studio and elsewhere.
This recordβs on here?!? I did not expect this one due to it being underground hip hop. But, this is a longtime favorite of mine. The production, the lyrics, the mood, the grittiness - 90s hip hop! This record played a pivotal role in my development and fondness of hip hop growing up. This album did get thrown under the radar with the likes of other major hip hop artists also dropping around this time, but I will always cherish this one.
This is the Creedence record with all the hits. A Southern sound of rock and roll with hints of blues and soul. This is a timeless sound that sounds good any day of the week.
What a lovely and beautifully-composed record. The songwriting is passionate, inspiring and relatable. Billy touches on many familiar topics, but in a way that just makes me feel good. His voice is so easy on the ears, paired with instrumentation that is sultry and smooth. Great one.
As much as I donβt like 80s pop, this record has so many hits from movies I grew up with, I suppose I can at least give it 3 stars. The synths and drums kill me though - so cheesy.
Sultry, silky, smooth. Everything we know and love about Mr. Mayfield. The brass, guitars, drum breaks, the voice. Such funk! It is so easy to feel good while listening to this record.
The first descriptor that came to mind when this record came on was βorchestral pop.β This is not my cup of tea, but I can see why people would enjoy it. Itβs bright, high-energy, and makes me feel like I should be in a spin class, working up a sweat. The vocals are too cheesy for my liking, but itβs poppy and dreamy. This is one Iβm surprised made the list.
My Icelandic bae. <3 Iβve always said no one sounds like BjΓΆrk, and this record demonstrates that. She has such a gentle, yet powerful voice, layered on top of ethereal and calming instrumentation. Itβs symphonic and melodic and hits all the right tones. Somber while uplifting and courageous. Very happy we have BjΓΆrk in the world of music.
This is a weird record. My first time listening to a Springsteen record in its entirety and I donβt like it. The drums and guitars are unimaginative and bland. The singing is a precursor to mumble rap. I bought tickets to see this guy live at my baseball stadium later this year, thinking itβd be cool to see a music icon at one of his [likely] last shows, and I think Iβm going to try and sell them now.
Fun, funky, soulful. Sister Sledge encapsulates what makes soulβ¦soul. Great vocals and melodies over vibrant and upbeat rhythms. This music always brings a smile to my face and gets me moving before I even realize my body is just naturally grooving to these tunes.
Solid Stones record. This is the Stones I think of when listening to this album. Very easy-going and a nice listen overall.
Very 80s, which is my least favorite decade, but this record isnβt too bad. Itβs not as obnoxious or cheesy as much of the 80s pop thatβs out there is. Itβs light and airy, soft and easy on the ears. The vocals are calming, matching well with the ethereal and dreamy instrumentation. Not bad.
This project is making me appreciate country music. Mr. Cash is such a quintessential country sound and makes for an entertaining night. This record has me feeling as if Iβm part of the audience. His charisma and candor are charming and irreplaceable. Great record.
Never listened to Arrested Development much and this album reminded me why. Itβs a bit too zany and corny at times, with that early hip hop sound before the hard-hitting gritty production came onto the scene. This album is playful and entertaining, but doesnβt resonate much with me. Hopefully others enjoy it more than I do.
This is a very beautiful record with some familiar songs that I didnβt know Willie had ever covered. Very easy one to listen to and makes me appreciate this artist even more.
This is the second Nick Cave record Iβve received on this project and Iβm still unsure about it all. Itβs not bad, and the music is casual and charming at times, but his voice kind of throws it off for me. Iβm not sold, but Iβm also not anti-Nick Cave.
Haunting, dark and mysterious. Fever Ray has always made me believe they are alien music sent here to enchant us and lull us into a mysterious spell. The vocals and music are moving, almost cinematic in nature. Very unique in sound and unlike anything else other than maybeβ¦Bjork or Sigur Ros (yes, both Icelandic).
Eccentric and beautifully enchanting. Great, enchanting vocals and ethereal harmonies create a vibrant world of sound on this record. Sultry and sexy throughout - this is a really cool record.
Gritty and tough 80s sound. Some of the only 80s I really can dig, and of course this was at the beginning of the decade. Great rock sound.
Showboating, rocking jazz at its best. I couldnβt imagine seeing this live, but what a time to be alive it must have been. This is what I think of when I hear the term βjazz.β Fun, lively record throughout.
Absolute classic record from The Stones. So many great hits on this one and the band really lets themselves loose on this project. So many good vibes and tunes that emanate from this piece. Forever a timeless album.
Poppy, lively, energetic. Hints of punk throughout with a fast-paced vibe. Pretty decent record.
Fun and festive. Great dance party said vibes.
Extremely fun and cultural album. Great drums, bass, guitars and vocals. A lot of material from here that Iβve heard sampled from some of my favorite hip hop artists. Psychedelic and funky.
Low-tempo, relaxing, serene and calming. Very folksy, but a very nice listen for the ears. The vocals are a warms and welcoming accompaniment to the already-chill music.
Although Janis was here for a good time and not a long time, I can still hear the pain in her voice and words. It resonates so much with me right now in life with the mental hardships Iβm enduring. This is one of those records I didnβt know I needed until I listened to it - another testament to this 1001 albums projectβs goal. Janis covers so many of the genres I grew up with - rock, soul, blues, even Motown (hear βHalf Moonβ) - yet I never really listened to her until now. RIP.
I donβt even need to listen to this one because of how well I know it, but I will anyway. Iβm very conservative with my 5 star ratings, but this one is deserving of it. This record is a glimpse into the life of a young Black man in Compton. The production is carried by beautiful sequencing, effects, and 808 drums. Kendrick paints a vivid story of his life, piecing it all together with segues of his family and interactions with friends and rivals. He speaks passionately and truthfully of his experiences. A captivating masterpiece that I believe catapulted his career until he further exploded with To Pimp A Butterfly. Plus, he and Drake were still pals on this record. How life can change, as exampled by the stories on this record. Praise King Kendrick. I pray my dick get big as the Eiffel Tower so I can fuck the world for 72 hours.
Sullen, low-key and somber. This is a very tame record with obvious elements of 90s alternative rock. Screeching guitars and almost-whining vocals layered over mysterious drum rhythms. This isnβt really hitting the spot, but itβs not terrible.
Passionate, vibrant and beautiful. Mingus has always been a favorite of mine and this record reminded me of that. Itβs like he makes the instruments speak words. The mood is cool, sultry and invigorating. I wish I could have been alive to see him and his band perform live in their prime. What a virtuoso.
Yet another album I donβt need to listen to because I already know how wonderful it is, but Iβm doing my present and future self the favor of listening to it again. Mr. Wonder is timeless. His voice is captivating. His words are inspiring. His music is emotional. This record is beautiful from start to finish. So many samples lifted from this one from other artists I listen to. There will never be another Stevie Wonder in the history of humanity. Thank you, Mr. Wonder, for everything youβve done.
1/2 of my favorite Beatles records, with Rubber Soul being the other. Revolver is fun, upbeat, creative and unique. The songs are lively and engaging. The Beatles were really flexing on this one with their capabilities and expansive ingenuity. This one always reminds me of my late father as we would sing these songs riding around in the car when I was a kid. Hit after hit after hit on this one - forever timeless.
This is USA. This is a band that truly represents the sounds of American rock and roll. A number of classics on this, including the ever-ubiquitous, and sometimes criticized, βFree Bird.β This record is short, sweet and charming. Really dig this one.
Another CCR record, another great album on the list. I will say that there are some songs that sound very similar. A couple times I caught myself thinking the song coming on was something different. Either way, great tunes and great vibes. Such a unique voice that hits my ears oh so nicely. Really have developed a fondness for CCR after starting this project.
God I fucking love Sam Cooke. Another one taken from us too soon. Blasted this in my car on the way to work this morning and it felt like I was part of the crowd; I wish I could have been present in this nightclub at this time. The crowd sounds so into it, singing along, the women screaming for Sam. His energy is electric and his band is vibrant. The music swings and grooves the entire time, never losing a beat or dipping in momentum. Samβs voice is one of a kind and carries such gravity that will always impact me in such a human way. Very happy to have learned about this one.
Iβm familiar with this group, but not this record. This has some interesting sounds on it and Iβd like to revisit it to fully immerse myself in it as I think it is a very good album; my close friend swears by it. Some unique electronic compositions combined with unique vocals. Iβm still left a bit unsure about it, but I enjoyed it.
Soft, easy, charming. This whole record is nothing but hits, with so many artists having done their own renditions of some of these tracks. Caroleβs voice is welcoming and charming. The music she sings over is calming, which only makes me want to keep listening while feeling safe. Really beautiful record.
Very chill folk record. Some of it sounds a bit culty at times and it can be dull in moments. Not a bad record, just not for me. Likely wonβt revisit this one.
Another Beach Boys recordβ¦more of the same Beach Boys sound. Nothing too impressive about this one, but it had its fun moments. Always a good play when in a beach town or at a summer cookout, but thatβs about it for me.
The man, Johnny Cash. So sullen, so chill, so iconic. This is a nice record with him covering some classics from others, but boy does he really highlight the melancholic feel of each track. Part of me wanted to switch to different music because I was really hungover this morning listening to it, but I dug my heels into the sadness. Will have to check out the other records of his in this series. Glad I stuck with it.
Beautiful, melodic, psychedelic and somber. They really capture myriad of emotions and moods on this record. Some classics of course, but overall itβs such a different sound from Dark Side. This record sounds like their attempt to show off their capabilities. Really lovely sounds.
Good record from a good band. Nothing really memorable about this one, but itβs a quality rock record with plenty of variety to keep me engaged.
Ghost is always a classic in hip hop. One of the few Wu members whose solo records are mostly all quality. Iβm more of an Ironman and Supreme Clientele guy myself, but Fishscale has its highlights. Taking production from Dilla and Doom is certainly a couple of those highlights. Guest appearances in full strength too. Solid Ghost record.
Somber sound but with a groove. 80s rock isnβt my thing usually, but because this has a darker vibe to it, I can dig it. Iβd revisit this one.
This album is great. Deep rock and roll with heavy vocals. Influences of grunge and punk. Slaying guitars and drums, heavy bass lines. This is fun.
Some classic hits on this record. This is a very fun, retro, funky, punky record. Mastering and production is very thin sounding, but itβs easy on the ears. This is an album that makes me feel cooler by listening to it.
The iconic, unmistakable and always smooth Al Green. Pure emotion throughout every song. The rhythm, the voice, the cadence, always a joy listening to this man jam. His band is such a perfect complement to his vocals, creating such beautiful harmony. Love this record.
Arguably, one of the greatest lyricists in hip hop history. Emβs wordplay, vocabulary and lyrical ability made him notable. His early, often violent, content made him controversial. Iβve been listening to him since the Slim Shady EP (pre-LP) and even went back to Infinite, but thatβs a very underdeveloped version of him. This album was always one I appreciated, but not as much as the Slim Shady series. This is certainly one of his most thoroughly-violent records. The opening few tracks are really great though as he showcases his lyrical talent and creativity. His ability to rhyme such an expansive lexicon of the English language while maintaining an entertaining cadence and rhyme style is really what makes him captivating for me. His violent content is unsavory and difficult to listen to at times (e.g. Kimβ), but I feel heβs saying and expressing anger in a way that probably some of us feel at times but know better than to let it out into the world among our friends and family. Em uses his musical platform to express himself, and for this record, he had embraced and recognized his meteoric rise. On an engineering level, the mastering of this record is very well done - no surprise with Dre being the mastermind. I was also reminded how great of a song βStanβ is. Vividly painting a story of a young fan with little to no self-direction. Another reminder that therapy is for everyone. The record loses its appeal a bit for me in the middle and end with the exception of the west coast star-studded βBitch Pleaseβ, and βCriminalβ is nostalgic, but overall Iβd rate this 3.5/5, so a 4 it is.
Entertaining record. Rush is Rush, but this one was pretty nice to listen to. Engaging and upbeat, it kept my attention throughout with how energetic it was.
Gritty, funky, bluesy. Very ethereal and downtempo at times, and other moments have me rocking. Love the diversity of instrumentation used and the vocals are soothing to the ears. Donβt know who the fuck Dennis Wilson is, but Iβm glad I know now.
Iβm a longtime fan of hip hop, coming up with it during the golden years in the mid-late 90s. Public Enemy is one of the pioneers of the culture and that can be heard in their social and political perspectives on each of these tracks. The production from this era is more rigid than what I like, but Chuck D and Flava Flav have such iconic voices and cadences. PE is not something Iβll regularly listen to, but I will always respect them.
Classic American rock sound. The quality of engineering makes it sound like a studio record. Allman Brothers arenβt something Iβd typically listen to, but it has its place. Some classics I grew up with too. If I were around for this show, I probably would have gone to check it out. Solid record.
This is the music of anarchy. Itβs energetic, chaotic, unique, and beautiful. The blend of various samples and the use of synthesizers was unlike anything else at the time. This was an artist that really broke out of the boundaries and made something that truly set him apart from the others. Happy I came up during this era.
Grunge, haunting, somber punk rock. There are some really good jams on this record that make me want to thrash. I dig this one.
Very cool retro, psych rock sound. This is definitely something Iβm into and was not previously familiar with this crew. Wild and insane at times, goofy even - a reminder that itβs okay to let ourselves loose from time to time. We are human and itβs records like this that help remind us of that. Life isnβt meant to be so serious all the time! Solid record.
I was just properly introduced to this record by a friend in recent weeks, and even just listened to it last week. I couldnβt be happier with now knowing this record. It doesnβt have the bright cheeriness that βSongs in the Key of Lifeβ offers, but the vibes are certainly still very positive, with a few being upbeat. βHeaven is One Zillion Light Years Awayβ is my absolute jam, and Iβm atheist. Stevie has such a raw talent for creating music that is universal. The songs on this one are modest in tone, yet uplifting, and I think the engineering has a lot to do with that. Another quality work from the legend.
Absolute classic hip hop record. This was such a pivotal moment for the culture, cementing Eazyβs and Cubeβs place in the industry. A glimpse into the life of the scene in Compton, laid out in quality story fashion. Typical production style from this era that can be a bit rigid, with little swing, but still some quality beats. A lot of samples taken from this record that have been used for decades since. Happy to see this one on here. Oh, and FUCK THE POLICE.
Grunge rock before grunge rock. Decent melodies and vocals, but it all kind of blends together with not much distinction between songs. Fortunately, itβs only 33 minutes long. Not my favorite, but not the worst.
Spoken word with drone rock in the background. Some noise rock at times, but most of it is chill and grooving. One of those concept albums that likely has a cult following, but I am not a part of that. This is underwhelming at first listen and reminds me of bad alternative rock - a band that wanted to be another band and never did their own unique thing.
Somber, lonesome, but beautiful. His voice sounds sullen yet hopeful and the music makes it very charming and easy to listen to. A record Iβm happy to have discovered via this project.
Melancholic and symphonic. The Cure represents the 80s in its purest form. The vocals are dreary and the music is wavy. Moments of upbeat rhythms, but this is mostly a very emotional and heartfelt record. Iβd revisit it.
I think this is my favorite Radiohead record. Itβs moving, ethereal, melodic, beautifully composed. So many different moods captured throughout so many varied instrumentations. Each song is unique in its own right but makes this record truly whole. Glad I got to revisit this one.
This is dope. Dreary, melancholic, noisy and lo-fi. The instruments are gentle, but very impressionable on the mood. I feel like I'm in the 60s when listing to this, I just don't have any LSD on me. This makes me want to discover more about The Velvet Underground.
Quaint, melodic and calm. The music and vocals are very gentle and easy to listen to. I appreciate Folk, and this is yet another record that adds to that appreciation. I like this one.
This is the 2nd or 3rd Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds record I've gotten, and I'm still unsure how I feel about him (them). It's easy-listening rock, but his voice just feels like a mismatch to the tune of the music. I can understand the allure, and I don't dislike it, but it's not something I think of that I'd want to listen to on a regular basis.
What a bluesy record by these fine English gentlemen. I'm familiar with The Doors, but wasn't familiar with this one. It's fun, funky, electric and entertaining. This is a band that really knew how to have fun with their music. The guitars and overall lofi sound add to the sometimes-melancholy mood, but the quirky guitar licks add some circus-like feel to it. I dig this.
Iconic vocals and music. One of the classic American rock bands that still lives on today with timelessness. Not my typical rock music that I like listening to, but AC/DC has its place at times and they can shred. This record is seemingly energetic the entire time and offers a good time throughout. Had never listened to it in its entirety, but happy I did through this project.
Can't say I've listened to a Madonna record, so this is a first. It's about as dreamy, poppy and ethereal as I might have imagined. Has some songs on it that I recognize and didn't realize came from the same release, and they're decent. I'll chalk this one up to experience, but likely won't revisit.
Decent folk rock record with some easy, mellow sounds. This is music that's the ancestor of Mumford & Sons and the like. Not my cup of tea, but it's pretty good.
This is basically a Greatest Hits record. So many good tracks on one record. The mood is uplifting and inspiring. RUN DMC bring the party to your ears with this release. Old school hip hop usually isnβt my favorite, but this album is such quality.
Noisy, distorted, fuzzy, grime. This is a fantastic rock record that captures the sound I like.
This is the reason I donβt like 80s music. This is the corniness that drives me away and makes me dislike 80s music in such a blanketed fashion. Itβs not bad enough for a 1, but itβs close.
This is a really nice record. Nanci has a beautiful voice that is full of life and conveys such emotion with every word. I was not previously familiar with Nanci Griffith at all, but this was a very pleasant introduction. The music is gentle, combining various elements that harmonize so nicely together. Nanci's vocals laid over top complement the ensemble so well with her storytelling and shared life experiences. This project certainly has opened up my perspective to country music.
I have never been a fan of the Beastie Boys, but my friend who is a big fan implored me to listen to this record as it is a "masterclass in sampling." He wasn't wrong. This is certainly the best Beasties I've heard. Their voices still sound like nails on a chalkboard for the most part, but the production quality and their rap content makes it tolerable. The beats are soulful, dingy, and raw. Their raps capture the moment of NYC in the late 80s and carries some of the sounds from that era, while also introducing the transition to the Golden Era of 90s hip hop. This was much better than I expected.
This is pleasant. It sounds so much like a Bruce Springsteen album and it's easy to get along with. Never heard of this group before this project, but I'm happy this one came across and I had a chance to experience it.
Upbeat, soulful, uplifting, sultry. This was just the record I needed to start my day today. It has a great mood and feel all throughout. I didn't realize this was the artist that did "Holding Back the Years" - classic. This was a really nice one.
This is a really dope record. I've known of and appreciated Missy Elliott, but this is the first full-length record that I've ever listened to by her. The production is spot-on, thanks to Timbaland, the king. Plenty of hits on this record, but Missy's vocals, cadence, delivery and lyrics really help carry this record through and keep the party moving. Solid album.
Very dull and draining. I had this record on while I was working and it just didn't stand out. Couple cool tracks, but overall it didn't have anything that stood out. Before I realized it, the algorithm took over after the record was over and played something immediately more grasping ("Celebrity Skin" by Hole). Not impressed by this one, but it's not deserving of 1 star.
I go back a long way with this record and it is just how I remember it. The production quality is so on point with Dr. Dre at the helm, providing a channel for Em to flex his vocabulary and vocal arsenal. Eminem himself demonstrates the pain he's endured throughout his life while showcasing his raw talent on the mic. His content is vulgar, violent, witty, self-deprecating and outright unorthodox, all the more reason he stands out in an era where a sea of rappers are primarily talking about how great they are. I started with Eminem on his Slim Shady EP, which I think was better as it was more concise and just as gritty, but the LP gave him a much broader stage to show what he's capable of.
This is just simply a really pleasant record. Neil's voice and music creates such a peaceful mood and his storytelling is uncanny. I should listen to more Neil Young.
A mix of Portishead, Bjork, and DJ Frane. This record is pretty decent and has some good quality beats. The vocals are nice, soothing and dreamy. Very reminiscent of the artists mentioned earlier, but it does have its own distinct sound, in a way. Solid.
Now here's a funky introduction of how nice this is. I already know the greatness of this album, but I'm more than happy to listen to it again. A milestone record in the history of Hip Hop. The chemistry in this group at this time was uncanny and Tribe truly set themselves apart with their content, production, delivery and cadence. You can tell how much fun they're having with creating it and presenting it to the masses. It's energetic, positive, fun, and entertaining. Absolutely love this one. Easy five stars.
This record thrashes. Love the energy and mood on on this one. Punk in its early stages and setting the stage for whatβs to come. Solid album.
This one is really nice. I love the vibe and tempo. The vocals are enchanting along with the musicianship that accompanies it. Beautiful sequences and captivating sounds that really draw the ear to only want to be closer to it. This is one of those records I likely never would have discovered without this project. Very solid.
Upbeat, festive and lively. Elements of folk, rock, classical all enveloped in this record. It's been some time since I last listened to this but I'm reminded of how good it is and I understand why it's on this list. Unique sound that Arcade Fire brings and it's very pleasant to listen to.
This one was okay. British rock/spoken word that was a tad too dry for me. Probably not worth a revisit.
Absolute classic of a record. This one is short and sweet and that is part of what makes it so great. Quick collection of hits from this crew. Always a fun listen.
Very interesting record with a cool vibe to it. It's frenzied, lulling and melodic all together. Various moods but all with a lo-fi, down to earth feel. I dig this one a lot.
Dreamy, groovy, beautiful. This feels like a movie soundtrack because of how seamless it flows together. Minimal vocals and the instrumentation carries this record, but even when there are vocals, it adds as a fitting layer to an already harmonic and melodic piece. Yes, Pink Floyd is revered, but I had never listened to this record in its entirety before today, and I'm happy I did at some point in my life.
It's Van Halen and they are a very distinct sound, but it's just not the type of rock or sound that caters to my ears. They slay, and have a ton of energy, but it's just not the most pleasant thing to listen to. I appreciate what they've done for music, and they have good moments, it's just not music that's for me.
80s, pure 80s. It's poppy, boppy and fun. This is music I'd love to listen to while out drinking at one of my favorite dive bars, and I likely have heard this record before in such a setting. The vocals are captivating and beautiful. The music and beat keep me entranced and vibing the whole time. Good tunes.
Such a fun album. It's right in that era where pop music was transitioning out of disco and into that distinct 80s sound. Some hits on this record that really stand out that we all hear in many places we go to, or even from commercials we see on TV. The vocals lend so well to the harmony of the instrumentation. Would have loved to seen this band perform live back in their prime. Very entertaining record.
This is quite bad. It's like ska meets Avril Lavigne. There's no fluidity and the harmonics are very abrasive. The lead singer is like nails on a chalkboard and without much rhythm or cadence. I'm trying to push through the entire record, but it is very difficult.
I can't thank my mother enough for introducing me to Otis Redding and other Soul/Blues/Motown artists at such a young age. My mother even named our cockatiel Otis; great bird. Otis Redding has been such a staple in my life and he continues to be. This record carries so much weight in the gravity of the songs he sings and how he puts his own touch on each of these classics. His voice presents such pain, but also such hope. He can bring me to tears with his rendition of Sam Cooke's "Change Gonna Come" and bring me to my feet with "Shake." His voice is unmistakable, his passion is impenetrable, his legend is forever. Another one taken from this world too soon, but he will never be forgotten.
What a cute album. It's such a fun and electric feel throughout that makes it very easy to listen to. "Dancing Queen" is such a huge hit and such a feel-good song that stands the test of time. The vocals blend so nicely with the charming and upbeat instrumentation. This is really nice.
Absolute classic. Such a cool, rhythmic, soulful sound that so many other artists that I listen to have borrowed from. I also appreciate the structure of this record in that it's only 4 songs, but all allowed to really breathe and expose themselves to the listener. Sit back and feel the chill warmth of this one.
Sultry, jazzy, sexy. This is a really beautifully composed record with very distinct elements that continues to set Bowie on his own stage. The progressions and sequences of these songs are captivating and mesmerizing at times. Really nice one.
Pure 90s rock/grunge/pop combination. Parts of it are reminiscent of Prodigy, with its upbeat dance rhythms with electronic instrumentation. The overall vibe is pretty good and reminds me of my yesteryears, but this wasn't a group I was particularly drawn to while younger and I can't say that feeling is any different now. This record, and band, has its place in music history but it's nothing too memorable from my perspective.
Iconic voice and incredible soul singer. Plenty of classic hits on this one that remind us of why Aretha is so great. She really sets herself apart both as a female artist and as a soul artist in whole. Great record.
Great record with a really fun vibe. Plenty of hits from this one that have stood the test of time and take me back to my younger days. Dave has such a distinct voice that carries over these upbeat tunes and emphatic instrumentation to really captivate the listener's ear. This is a really enjoyable one.
Easy-listening folk/indie rock. Nothing that really sticks out on this one for me, but it's a pleasant listen. The vocals and instruments are easy on the ears and the lyrical content matches what one would expect from such a record. Decent.
A very generic form of 90s alternative rock. Nothing captivating or moving, just the same chords over different rhythms with the same generic vocals layered on top, singing uninspiring lyrics.
Solid, classic country record. Some good tunes on this one that I connected with - "$1000 Wedding" and "Love Hurts." The album is a whole is a pleasant listen and really easy to enjoy. This 1001 project has certainly opened me up to the world of country that I previously was [adamantly] against. This is a record I'll come back to in the future.
First time listening to an Elvis Costello album. Itβs a bit cheesy, but itβs engaging enough. He has a very distinct voice and the music is playful enough to get along with. Probably wonβt revisit this one, but I wonβt turn it off if I hear it again.
I know U2 catches a lot of stereotypes and flak, but this record is really good. Such a pleasant and inspiring vibe on each song and the album flows together very well. Bono is one-of-a-kind with his voice and lyrics and the band comes together to make it sound so complete. I really enjoyed this one and I'm starting to understand why U2 has such a following.
Some standard alternative 90s rock. Doesn't sound terrible, but nothing that really draws me in. Kind of reminds me of Smash Mouth. No need to revisit this one.
Funk, electro, pop. This is a really fun record and great one to listen to in the morning to get the day going (as was the case for me today). I've always been a fan of LCD, and listening to this record reminded me why. Relatable lyrics, nothing overwhelmingly emotional but almost philosophical in a way. I'll definitely come back to revisit this record in the future.
Experimental, groovy, fun. This is what I like to hear in a record. It has great rhythms, funky vocals and instruments and is a generally chill vibe with some psychedelic influences. Definitely some tracks I've heard sampled by other artists which was really nice to hear. I dig the eclectic dynamics of this one - great album.
Smooth, sultry, electric-guitar wailing 70s rock. Can't say I've listened to much Thin Lizzy in my life but this performance is really nice. The drums, guitars and vocals all harmonize so well together and it sounds really really nice. Finally, an Irish band that I can get along with.
Lively, inspirational, beautiful. So many elements to Felaβs music and this record is no different. Each track has its own mood and really capture the attention of the listener. Such a festive and beautiful harmony.
This is exactly the type of record Iβm into. Beautiful, gentle compositions with complementary vocals in well-choreographed frequency. Itβs reminiscent of a very good movie soundtrack. Well sequenced and seamless as a listen. This one is really nice.
Love the vocals and the music rocks. This is a solid, early 00s rock release with some decent sounds. Sounds similar to other music of its time, but still has some unique elements to set itself apart.
Big 80s sound with a hit at the end ("Don't You Want Me") that I didn't realize was theirs. Lots of synth and wonky sounds throughout, as expected with this decade's pop contributions. Fun record.
Iconic and distinct singer-songwriter, Sir Elton John. This record really portrays some of his best capabilities as a writer, singer and musician. This has some great ballads that are really fun and easy to get along with. Really sets himself apart with the mood of these songs.
Vibrant, fun, energetic and captivating. This records is a really enjoyable listen and kept my attention throughout. A couple songs I was familiar, but this record as a whole is really nice. The vocals, cadence and instrumentation match so well together and make it very seamless. Will definitely revisit this one.
Great blues rock and distinguished vocals. The musical performance is sultry and groovy. Has some upbeat tunes and also some more low-key, vibe-out kind of tunes. What a great show this must have been to be a part of.
Very eclectic and poppy. Certainly a distinct sound that this group has that can be sometimes neurotic to listen to. It tends to get very spaced out and trippy in places with the vocal effects and how the production carries each track. It's a fun record with many unique, experimental elements.
Very unique sounds and singing style that makes me even further appreciate the diversity of music. The tones and melodies used are a bit distracting for me and it can be difficult to get through this record in its entirety. I pushed through to give it a chance, and glad I did, but I don't think I'll be coming back to this one. It was an experience though.
A revolutionary concept for an album at its time, and could only be pulled off by this eclectic duo known as Outkast. Before this record, we knew Outkast as a funky, smooth southern Hip Hop feel, but this release allowed them to showcase their individuality while retaining their harmony as a duo. The sounds are, to this day, distinct and sets itself apart. The cadence of both Big Boi and Andre will never be replicated and they know how to keep the attention of the listener. This record is an absolute classic in the timeline of Hip Hop and it's no surprise that it has stood the test of time after two decades.
Iconic sound all around. The music was so distinct for the time, and even still today. The musicianship and vocals were something else and still resonate powerfully in present times. What a great journey this introduction to Led Zeppelin is.
This guy really made his mark during this era. Controversial at the time, but pushing the boundary of music. The record is dark, electronic, glitchy, crunchy. Reminds me of some Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor sounds. I had never listened to this record in its entirety before this project, but I'm glad I got this one in. Solid record.
Soft and gentle folk record. This one is a really easy listen and friendly on the ears. Not something I'd listen to regularly, but I will revisit this one as it was nice.
I'm usually not one for 80s music, but R&B always has a special place in my ears. This is a really great record that I hadn't heard of before. The vocal harmonies are really pleasant and soulful. The music isn't too cheesy 80s and actually fits very nicely with the vocals. This is a nice, balanced album that has much replay value. Solid.
I was waiting for this record to show up; I knew it had to. This album has carried me through several years and is a staple in my hip hop collection. This master class in sampling is something to be in awe of, and always will be. This record is timeless and portrays such a fluid movement through music. His knowledge of music and the vinyl collection he has amassed is on full display when listening to this album. His wizardry to blend and collaborate samples that wouldn't otherwise have been thought of. This is a mainstay in my collection and easily a Top 25 record of all time for me.
Reminds me of early Beach House. Very ambient sounds with a darker/somber undertone to it. The music has some of that 80s sound, but it also has the new sounds of what's to come in the 90s. This is a good one.
Funky, quirky, groovy. This is a really nice record with some great sounds front to back. The melodies and vocals mix so well, and the instrumentation carries the whole album. Hadnβt heard of this group but I was familiar with one song (A Minha Menina) that is a jam. Great one here.
Upbeat, energetic and thrashing. This is great record with plenty of punk influence. The musicians slay and the accompanying vocals match the mood perfectly. Such a short and sweet album, but just the right amount.
A master class in soul. This is one of the milestone records in music, produced by a musician that was taken far too early from us. The gentle touch this record has is uncanny; Marvin is truly on his own. It's such a beautifully-composed record that will forever be timeless. The instrumentation paired with his vocals is mesmeric. Fantastic record.
A funky introduction to one of the most notable Hip Hop groups of all time. It's easy to see how their approach has resonated over the years, injecting funk and rhythm into all of their tracks. Content that is relatable to most of us, all with a head-nodding groove to follow along with. They so clearly stand out in a league of their own, and this is just the beginning.
R.E.M. is typically what I don't listen to, but this album was actually quite nice. Has all the ambient and melancholic-esque sounds that one can expect from this group, but it also has some nice, uplifting sounds as well. The instrumentation and vocals pair well together and it's not too bad.
Ethereal and theatrical. There's a lot of energy and plenty of quintessential 80s sounds with this one, and also a couple of notable hits that have stood the test of time. This is a decent one.
Early metal that still thrashes. The drummer is absolutely mad and kills it. This band paved the way for many of todayβs metal and metal sub-genre artists. This is a solid record.
Fun, funky and full of expression. Tina is a legend and will forever be timeless. She brings such passion and energy to each song, making it a very uplifting experience. Good record.
Great tunes and vibe. The psych influences and retro rock are so easy on the ears.
Excellent psych Brit rock record. Good tunes and vibes throughout this one with some experimental guitars and vocals. They're having fun on this one. A couple classics I'm familiar with on here too.
Great live blues show. Something I really wish I could have experienced in person. Such good energy, sound, crowd participation. Classic blues/soul sound.
A history in west coast hip hop. In terms of sequence and overall feel, it's not my favorite hip hop record, but it still has its place in history and should be listened to at least once. Cube has and still is a pivotal figure in the culture.
Unique, funky, upbeat electronic record that's reminiscent of other electronic releases of this era. Haven't heard of this before, but it's decent.
This record reminds me of my father, who introduced me to this album, and The Eagles, at a very early age. "Hotel California", for as outplayed as it is, it's a timeless piece in music history. This is a band I typically hear played by white people that don't know anything about music, but all in all, it's not that bad of an album.
Canβt say Iβve ever listened to an Elvis record in its entirety, but Iβm glad I got this one. Such clean and fluid music, with the blues and soul of Elvis. Very solid record.
SZA has been a breath of fresh air for the R&B scene. The production paired with her vocals is such beautiful harmony throughout this record. Very well done.
Very unique rock sound. Mars Volta really made a name for themselves and brought new energy to the genre.
Psychedelic, trippy and spaced out. Theatrical sound, with beautiful moments of musicality, carried over a backdrop of lucidity. Funky one.
Calm, cool and collected. What a journey this record takes the listener on, through upbeat rhythms to more docile and relaxed, ethereal tones. What a wonderful and experimental jazz record from the legend himself.
An absolute milestone in hip hop. Wu-Tang Clan revolutionized the scene and what hip hop was capable of at a time when it all kind of sounded the same. Wu really set a bar and are obviously timeless now, having branched out and expanded their network over the decades to include a multitude of different affiliate artists. This record truly set them apart on their own with an uncanny sound that still resonates to this day. Forever classic.
Folky, hippy, wavy. Chill and relaxing tunes, but nothing really captivating, but not bad. Decent one.
Definitely some 80s hair rock here. Not my favorite genre, but it's not absolutely terrible. I don't think I'd ever revisit this one.
Friendly, weird, ominous and creepy. This album makes me feel like I'm about to be assaulted by a clown. Overall though, the music is easy to get along with, just kind of cheesy. The vegetable-eating-sound adlibs on "Vega-Tables" is wild, but I dig the creativity - the whole album is kind of like this.
Gentle, dreamy, melodic folk/alt rock with that 90s sound. Really easy listen, but not something I'd come back to regularly. Decent record.
A master class in soul with all of the hits we all love. Great energy and rhythms, paired with an exuberant and passionate voice. This is a really fun listen.
Like another reviewer wrote, there's nothing wrong with this record, it's just bland. Same mood throughout and it's very monotonous to that effect. Easy on the ears, so that's nice. Just not much to it.
Cosmic, wavy and ethereal. Unlike much of anything else I've listened to, but not necessarily in a way that makes me want to listen to more by Eno. It's gentle and comfortable enough.
Fun, quirky, upbeat. Cool electro pop record with some familiar sample-takes and phrases. Good sounds and vibes on this one.
Great soul in this one. Louis' voice is so distinct and really represents an era of music. The band is great and keeps things lively the whole time. Very fun record.
Wasn't into the Peppers as much as I could have been since I grew up during this era, but always enjoyed their music, even when I was younger. This record has some fun grooves and rhythms throughout and keeps its appeal after all these years. This band certainly set themselves apart from what else was out in the scene and rose to prominence because of it. Really a great record - almost every song is a hit.
For 1984, this is impressive. Very ethereal and dreamy. Harmonic vocals with some dark, eerie synths in the background. Cool sounds throughout and the complementing vocals make this an enjoyable listen.
So very 80s; the epitome of hair metal. The vocals are piercing and the music is just plain corny. I can't say I hate this record, but I certainly don't enjoy listening to it. But, as I've agreed to by doing this project, I will listen to each record in its entirety. It is truly amazing that this is considered a record we must listen to before we die, and that there are people out there that really enjoy this music - a testament to the diversity and subjective nature of music and art. No, thank you, for me though.
Very interesting record. A mix of r&b, hip hop, and Asian influence. It's a very easy record to listen to and the harmonies are very pleasant throughout. Happy I had the chance to learn of this one.
Sultry, smooth and easy. Thelonious is always a pleasure to listen to and captivates the true essence of jazz. Great vibes all around on this one.
Very easy listening record. Neil Young has such a distinct voice that sets him apart from other folk rock singers. Pleasant harmonies and mood throughout.
Soft-spoken, sexy, beautiful. The harmonies and instrumentation is so nice and easy to listen to - I'm such a huge fan of strings so this one sings to me. Reminds me of Danger Mouse's "Rome" soundtrack. Very soft and gentle, with such lovely sounds emanating throughout. Exquisite record.
A masterclass in 90s R&B with 90s hip hop influence. She even got Dru Hill and Krayzie Bone to feature on this record - so dope. It's interesting hearing the vocal harmonies she used and how closely they resemble those of other R&B artist's harmonies of this era, namely Boyz II Men comes to mind. Of course, her voice is absolutely beautiful and is forever timeless, especially thanks to the abhorrent holiday that is Christmas.
A 90s rock record if I ever heard one. Pixies certainly have their own unique mystique and charm to their music, which explains their cult following. The music is in your face, but well composed. They certainly set themselves apart in the genre. Solid record.
Iβve never been able to get into R.E.M. and this record doesnβt help. The music is mediocre and the vocals are piercing at best. R.E.M. and Dave Matthews Band can be canceled together.
Melodic, calm, mystical. For as much criticism as Coldplay gets, this album was surprisingly very enjoyable. It was the right amount of easy rhythms paired with soothing vocals an and harmonies. Some Radiohead influence can be heard, and even some classical influence for that matter. Really enjoyed this one.
Interesting one. Not much that engages me with the record, but I'm not turned off by it, per se. Has some decent melodies and vocals throughout, but on the whole, I don't think I'd visit this record again or remember to. It's mostly drab, but I appreciate the artist's effort and attempt on the solo front.
Not bad. Pretty standard 90s alternative rock record, but has its own unique touch to it. Has some interesting instrumentation and sounds to it to add some character and flavor. Has never heard of this band before, so itβs nice to hear something new.
Manic, silly, chaotic and hard. I love System of a Down. The singer, Serj, has such a wide range, heβs almost operatic at times. The drummer is absolutely mad and thrashes through the entire record. The chord progressions, harmonies, and transitions are awesome. Great record.
Calm, easy, and comforting. Not something I'd listen to regularly, but this is a really nice record. Paul has a very pleasant voice and the instrumentation that carries it makes it an enjoyable record to listen to.
Easily one of my favorite albums of all time. As one other reviewer put it, this record made me learn how to love music all over again. Every single song is lovely, and the flow of the record is so nice and fluid. Frank's voice alone carries it, but his creativity with production and sequencing is so uncanny, it's such a breath of fresh air. He's mysterious, genius, inconsistent with releases, and that all adds to the allure of his career. Seemingly every song or album he's a part of is absolute quality. I cannot wait for whatever his next release is. Forever a Frank Ocean fan.
Very timid folk/bluegrass. Not my type of tunes, but I don't hate it. Rather, I just won't listen to this record again intentionally. Hopefully other folks enjoy it.
Bluesy, rocky, jamming. I only knew a little bit about Kings of Leon, mainly their past hits, before listening to this record. Definitely some fun rhythms and jams that they have on here, making it enjoyable to listen to. Not bad overall.
Fun little quirky album. The expected 80s pop elements present, but still an enjoyable record to listen to. Very dreamy throughout with the soft vocals laid over top of some funky bass guitar, keys and drums. Can't say I was ever familiar with this group before, but this is a nice one.
Iβve had a fondness for Queen since a young age as my British father introduced me to them early on. I was entranced by their theatrical and orchestral nature and the music was always fun to listen to - this record is no different. Mercuryβs voice is uncanny and is so charming to listen to. The band is engaging and captivating, making beautiful harmonies with each song. Iβll always love this band, and this record goes along with it.
Easy flowing and lovely music. Always had a special place in my heart for Steely Dan mainly because my favorite artist, MF Doom sampled them so much. This record is sequenced and mastered so beautifully, itβs so easy on the ears. Nice one.
Very gentle and easy listening. An easy pioneer for folk music that paved the way in a most traditional way. Nice record.
Love this band. Folk, but with some rhythm and blues and bounce to it. The vocals pair so beautifully with the instrumentation and the sequencing of tracks is done so well. This record captures everything I think of when Fleet Foxes comes to mind, with uplifting grooves and melodies. A real pleasure to listen to this crew.
After having watched A Complete Unknown recently, itβs somewhat serendipitous that this record comes up. I hadnβt listened to much of Dylan before seeing that movie but appreciated what heβs done. This record is a Dylan classic with many tracks that characterize him. Melancholy tone, easy melodies and rhythms, very impressionable lyrics. Really enjoyed this one.
Calm, chill and easy to listen to. Very familiar with this name, but canβt say Iβve ever listened to a Simon & Garfunkel record before now. A pleasant one.
Fun, quirky, folky. A variety of energy, downtempo and middle-of-the-road tunes. It's easy to hear the influence that this band has had on other more modern groups and how Fleetwood Mac has shaped music in general. This isn't typical of what I'd lean to listen to on a regular basis, but this sound has its place. It's nice.
I guess this is what goth rock is. The 80s are easily my least-favorite decade for music, especially rock music, so this one fits the bill of a record I don't really care for. Not the worst thing I've heard, but I won't willingly revisit this one again. Hopefully others enjoyed it.
I love records like this. Weird, goofy, experimental and explorative. The sounds are unique and trippy, making me think differently about the process of creating music. This isn't a record I'll revisit regularly, but I absolutely appreciate this type of production. Weirdos unite.
A record like this takes me back to my early days of DJng and going to raves. House music was all the βraveβ π€ around this time and this album was a major contributor it seems. Iβm sure Iβve heard this music before in the past, but didnβt know who it was. My friend whoβs a huge DnB fan says βBrown Paper Bagβ is a classic in the scene. It was also really nice hearing Bahamadia on the title track - classic underground emcee. This record is what it is for electronic music in the late 90s, and itβs a great representation of it. Not my forte, but I enjoyed it.
Fantastic record from an incredibly gifted musician that unfortunately grew into a psychopath. I understand other reviewer's contempt for Kanye, but his musical talent and creativity cannot and should not be overlooked or "canceled." This project is about the music, not the person. At the time this album came out, Hip Hop was in a transition from its golden era of the 90s. Kanye introduced some unique and very creative drum and sample programming which still resonates to this day. The soul, the passion and the ambition can all be felt. The guest features speak beautiful words of inspiration and complement the production so well - Kanye handpicked them perfectly. Even the skits are great, adding to the story of this album. This is always a classic record in my book.
Elvis certainly has his own voice and presence. It's rockabilly blues and it's not my favorite, but it can be fun at times. Not something I'd revisit intentionally, but Elvis has his place in music.
Droning, lo-fi music. Iggy Pop is his own character and has such an uncanny sound. He's pop but with a melancholic vocal presentation. It's such experimental music and I love the impact that it has had throughout the years, hearing how it has influenced the likes of other artists that have come after Iggy. Solid record and a landmark artist in music history.
Trippy, groovy and sensual. Massive Attack is like the cooler sister of the more refined Portishead. Always a group I've appreciated for their spaced out sounds, very wavy, easy and rhythmic. This is certainly a record I would revisit.
Good rock record. Fun, quirky rhythms and you can certainly hear the influence that this band has provided to other bands after it. This is one I hadn't heard before, but recognized a track or two. Solid one.
Quirky, goofy, upbeat. I know Paul Simon has his following, but it's not necessarily for me. A lot of it sounds cheesy, but it's not unbearable to listen to. Just something about the acoustics that doesn't align with me, but it's okay I guess.
Lennon has his own sound as a solo artist. Free-flowing, imaginative, and soulful. This is a really nice record that captures him at a pivotal time in his life. I dig it.
It's dance, it's pop, it's upbeat. This record has its place, but this isn't something I would listen to every day. The sequencing is well done and it's very typical of a dance/house/jungle/electronic record of this era. Not bad.
These guys fuck. Love the energy and absolutely recklessness of this music, yet it all comes together in harmony. This was such a movement during this era, something that really hadnβt been seen or done before. Respect to this band.
Trippy, kooky, and groovy. This is one of those records where the artist went to do something unorthodox and experimental and it worked. A combination of different electronic sounds, vocal melodies, and off-the-wall sequencing techniques. This is the type of record that really makes me re-think my perspective of what music is, and realizing that we do not need to conform ourselves to a recipe or structure in order to "fit." We can make whatever the hell we want as long as we, the artists, enjoy it.
Groovy, quirky, cool. This is one of my favorite Beck records. It has such a nice tone and flow to it and the harmonies make it so easy to listen to. Beckβs voice is of course unique in its own right, adding a somewhat somber feel to his tracks, but fitting perfectly over the instrumentation. Great record.
Soft, sensual and smooth. Sade is in a class of her own and this record demonstrates that. She captures an essence that few can and represents a siren in music. Beautiful one.
So groovy and fun. I forgot how much I enjoyed Shuggie's music. This is the first record I've listened to of his in its entirety and I was not disappointed. The soul and rhythm that's conveyed by Shuggie and his band is so capturing. Really enjoyed this record.
Cute little folky album. Some parts remind me of the Beatles, but that's likely just because of the UK origination. Not a bad record, but kind of boring.
Definitely 80s, but also an early view into metal and a pivotal point in music. Can't say I've listened through to an entire Iron Maiden record before, but this was what I expected it to be. Upbeat, decent harmonies and rhythms, and vocals aren't too harsh. I can now say I experienced this.
I love this record so much. This is one I don't even need to listen to before rating it, but I will listen to it anyway because it's been long enough since my last time. Hendrix is an icon and his guitar is his child. Such gritty riffs, captivating vocals, and his bandmates are a perfect complement to complete the sound. "Manic Depression" is one of my favorite songs of all-time, but every track on this record is great. "Third Stone from the Sun" is a super easy and trippy instrumental track that lays so well in the middle offering a little break to chill. The track list sequence is just right and helps the record flow so well. Kudos to the engineers that mastered this as it really captures Hendrix and all of his essence.
Iconic artist and album. Such a unique impression that Dylan has left on the world and his story is one of individualism and perseverance. This record captures Dylan at a pivotal time in his career when he was really fitting in to where he belongs, and in many cases, creating his own place to belong. Great record.
An icon in hip hop for many, but 2Pac never had that large of an impact on me compared with other hip hop artists that I think are much more talented than he is. This record was adored by so many fans, which is likely why it's on this project's list, but there's nothing that really resonates with this one that sets it apart as something truly unique. The samples selected for production is great, but their incorporation into songs is left to be desired. It's got that typical west coast feel to the beats, which is good, but nothing really outstanding on this record. Pac's lyrics are relatable for many, his cadence is uncanny, and his voice is perfect for story-telling. I respect what he did for the culture, but this album in particular didn't move me much.
Neil Young being Neil Young. His voice can be a bit difficult to endure at times, but the music isnβt bad overall. Decent harmonies and instrumentation. Not something Iβd willingly seek out though.
Oh, JT - our modern day MJ. If this record is on here, FutureSex/LoveSounds better be as well. Timberlake's voice is simply mesmeric and out of this world. His harmonies are so smooth, soulful and sultry. Neptunes mostly carry the production on this record, but additions by Timbaland, Scott Storch and Brian McKnight really add the flavor and variety. Timberlake is so hard-working and driven and it really shows in all of his work. This record is no different and demonstrates his professionalism as a solo artist, no less on his debut. It's fun, funky, upbeat and rhythmic. The production was so unique at the time and still carries itself to this day. Big fan of this one.
Beautiful melodies and harmonies. Such great soul and rhythm on this record that really made it easy to listen to and was overall just simply enjoyable to listen to. Hadn't heard of this artist or record before, but happy it found me.
Jimi, oh Jimi. One of the best, if not the best, guitarists in our history. This record is another testament to that as it carries the listener through its psychedelic journey. It's a beautifully sequenced album that carries many emotions with it. Really enjoy this one.
This one caught me off guard. I came up through the golden era of Christina, Britney and the boy bands. Always preferred Christina to Britney - thought she had a more mature and professional voice. That's demonstrated on this record along with her range of chemistry and collaborations. I hear elements of Mariah, Boyz II Men and even some older soul artists. Had no idea DJ Premier did any collaboration with Christina, but this was a nice surprise while listening. This is a really solid record and I'm happy it found me.
Really mellow and relaxing Radiohead. This album feels more traditional in singing-songwriting compared with their others that feel a bit more experimental and ultimately make Radiohead Radiohead. This album is still very representative of the band, but it feels a bit more structured. Great record.
The Genius! GZA is undoubtedly one of the most lyrically talented emcees in the culture, let alone in the Wu. This record harnesses all of what Wu represents, but under the purview of GZA. The martial arts movie samples mixed with RZAβs unique, hard-hitting production allows a complement for GZAβs deep lyrical and conscious impressions. This is a classic in hip hop and one of the best solo Wu records.
Fun and funky just as Beck does it. This is an easy record to listen to and has a very cool and nice vibe to it. Dig it.
The Pumpkins record with all the hits. Never was a big fan of this band, but the music is certainly unique and transformative during this era. The music is emotional, moving and even inspiring in some ways. The vocals can be a bit of a nuisance, but tolerable.
If you're looking for 80s pop, this is it. Not my forte of music, but I can understand why it's popular with some folks. It's bouncy, upbeat and catchy. Not the best acoustics for my ears, personally, but it's not terrible.
This album is awesome. I'd never listened to Napalm Death before, but had heard of them. Listening to this on my way into the office this morning, I came in ready to rip the fucking head off some spreadsheets. Every track thrashes with intensity, melody and rhythm. The drummer is an absolutely maniac and kicks ass. The vocals mesh perfectly with the percussion and guitars and all these elements really complement each other. I can't believe this came out in the 80s; it sounds harder than most metal that's out today. This album represents part of why I enjoy this project so much.
What a very pleasant record. Hadn't heard of this artist nor this album before but this was a nice, easy-listening surprise. Very cool, wavy vibes and just an enjoyable record to listen to.
Exceptional voice, but not the best moving content. There's just something about the songs that makes it feel like it's meant to be listened to by people that don't know much about music. Again, Adele has amazing vocal talent, and the production is very well done, but the songwriting leaves something left to be desired. Overall, an enjoyable record.
What a neat record. I love this style of soul and blues, capturing an era of Americana and truly representing its essence. Fats has such a fantastic voice and the complementary instrumentation is straight up cool. Not a record Iβd listen to often, but fun to put on to reminisce about the days before I was born.
Energetic, chaotic and rebellious. This is my first proper listen of the Kennedys and I really dig it. Definitely will re-visit this one.
This record invokes anxiety, but itβs still nice to listen to.
Great blues record with some nice variety and acoustics. Hadn't heard of this group before, but I really enjoyed this one.
Gorillaz have always had such a unique and fun way of presenting music, and this record illustrates that. The songs are motivating and upbeat, keeping my attention. They offer an experimental, yet structured approach to the songs they deliver. Enjoyed this one, and always have.
Oh boy. It is no surprise seeing this absolute classic on this project list. I don't even need to listen to this one to give it the highest rating it deserves. This is one of those records that revolutionized not only just hip hop, but music in general. The production, the skits, the lyrics - all of it is timeless. I will listen to this one again though because it's been long enough since my last listen. After listening again, it's still just as good as I remember. The first half of the record is front-loaded with all the best hits while the latter half is solid, but not as much star power, still holds the record together though. The west coast production was at its best, showcased in this record. Dre and Snoop were on another level and really complement each other. Bow-wow-wow yipee-yo-yipee-yay, Death Row's in the mothafuckinnnnn' hoouuuuusssse.
Chill and somber. Very easy listening from an artist I had not heard of before. Melancholic in nature, but not depressing. This has a nice vibe to it and I'll be happy to revisit it again.
Gang Starr is forever a staple in hip hop. Guru's lyrics are mediocre for the most part, but his voice carries well over Premier's beats. This record is an important piece in the culture and history of the genre, but Premier is who carries it. Not my favorite Gang Starr record, but still a quality one.
This one is a bit off the mark for Steely Dan from what I expect. It's not bad, but there's just something about the elements on this record that I don't quite get. It's the typical easy-listening feel, but there's just something missing that's not as captivating as their other songs/albums. Will have to listen to this one again.
This record always reminds me of my father. I remember being a kid in the 80s and my father coming home with a portable karaoke machine and us singing the title track together. This release from the Beatles represents a lot of experimentation, psychedelia, and plain silliness. It's happy, it's captivating and intriguing. An absolute classic in the music scene.
The Boss. Can't say I've ever been a fan of Bruce and I can still say that after listening to this record. It's not the worst, but it is just cheesy and sometimes patriotic ballads. His voice is decent and the music is sometimes fun to listen to, but this isn't something I would seek out to listen to. At least he's fighting for the correct side.
The vocals are scathing. The music is recycled and unoriginal. This is...not good.
This is...a lot. It's a sullen and melancholic mood for the most part, with drone vocals and some funky electronic music to complement. It's okay overall, but I won't seek this out unless I'm looking to fit in a particular scene. It's okay.
Really incredible album that grabs your attention quickly and lets go of it almost just as quick given how short in duration it is. The musicianship and unique elements that Zeppelin carry with them is not to be mistaken by anything else. This is an inspiration for rock and roll.
Really great band. Energetic, upbeat, rocking music. Such unique harmonies and vibes from them and this album is no different. It's even got that one song they play at every sports stadium across the world!
Very light and airy. Pretty fun record from an artist I had never heard of before. It's really easy on the ears - the music and vocals. Corny at points, but not too bad overall.
This record reminds me that I should listen to reggae more often. I was put in such a good mood after listening to this. Even heard elements of blues in parts of this album. Very easy to listen to and has an enjoyable vibe throughout. Time to light one up.
Very beautifully composed record and presented very tastefully. It touches on subjects that are important and delivers in a gentle, yet provocative way. This was really nice.
Love the experimental electronic sounds that Depeche Mode produce, while still creating engaging and upbeat tracks. βEnjoy the Silenceβ is probably my favorite 80s-era song from my least favorite decade of music. Fun one.
Classic redneck rock and roll. It's a bit too corny and simple for my liking, but it's not terrible.
Not a fan of this. It's too soft and corny. They talk about weather a lot.
This is the type of country I'm here for. Super chill and laid back, very easy and soulful vibes. His voice is very enjoyable to listen to and his tunes are mellow and relaxing. I dig this one!
BeyoncΓ© before she was BeyoncΓ©. This is a really great pop R&B record to bring in the 2000s. The vocals are beautiful, the production is catchy, and it promotes female independence and womenβs rights. Iβm with it.
Great record. Dylan really shines on this one and emanates that he is in his element. The songwriting is brilliant, and paired with his musicianship it is truly a sound of its own. Really dig this one.
As Americana as it gets. Can't say I've listened to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers much outside of the songs that are played in public places, since they have so many hits. This was a really enjoyable record. Very easy on the ears and Tom's voice is nice to follow along with.
Really pleasant record from a group I had never heard of before. Spacey and experimental, very mellow. Great effects, vocals and instrumentation. Dig this one.
Raw, unfiltered and wild. I dig this a lot. The vocals and lyrics, combined with the rough-edged music is a great collaboration. The moments of experimental nature mixed with punk is a nice eclectic mood. This is a dope record.
Demented, neurotic, spastic, This reminds me of the music I created with my friends when I was younger. This sounds like a lot of drugs were involved, and I'm cool with that. It's all over the place, but I appreciate the manic nature of it as my brain acts in a similar nature. Weird one.
An album full of hits. Such easy, chill vibes when listening to this record. I've really come to appreciate and love Fleetwood Mac since starting this project. The rhythms and progressions are so easy and soothing on the ears. Absolutely fantastic record.
Very fun alternative band. Great vocals and good rhythms. Definitely reminds me of other indie bands that have since gained notoriety and that I'm a fan of. Good one.
Noisy, loud, chaotic, experimental, German. This is a wild one, but I appreciate music like this as it pushes the boundaries of what music can be defined as. I just came from listening to Captain Beefheart's "Trout Mask Replica", so this record kind of fit nicely into the sequence of disturbing albums that this project has coincidentally presented to me.
Baltimore represent! Damn I love this city and the music born from it. Beach House has always been a favorite and this record is no exception. Very dreamy vibes, super chill and pleasant.
Beautiful record with the unique charm that only Mr. Charles can bring. His voice and the band provide a wonderfully rich experience that resonates throughout the entire duration. This is a really nice one.
Dingy, noises and punk. It has its moments, but not my favorite thing to listen to. Think Iβll give it another spin sometime, but itβs okay overall.
Oh, Amy. I knew this one would show up. This album has strongly resonated with me since its debut. Her struggles, her strides, and her soul all bared throughout. My mother raised me on Soul and Motown music and when this record came out, I was immediately transported back to my youth and reminded of how much I love this style; Amy only further emphasized that. She captivates with her distinct voice, lyrics, and composition. She captures a variety of emotions - those that uplift us and make our feet move, to those that make us somber and reflective on our lives and lives of others we know. She carries essences of Billie Holiday, Marvin Gaye, and Diana Ross, among others, but she is and always will be Amy Winehouse. I never knew her personally, but I miss her dearly. Love you, Amy! Favorites: All of them, but "Wake Up Alone" and "Back to Black" really hit home for me.
This reminds me of something that William Shatner would produce. Lounge/club/showtune vibes, but with a lot of cheesiness. Can't say I really enjoy this one given how closely it resembles a musical. This Casanova did not sway me.
A band that wants to be The Beatles, but isn't quite there. This is certainly the hippy-era rock music with that stereotypical sound. All that aside to say that this record is a really nice listen. It's easy melodies and harmonies, and the vocals are very soothing. A pleasant experience, but nothing significantly impactful.
Super chill and easy on the ears and mind. It's albums like this that make me appreciate country music. Smooth voice, cool and easy-going music, absolutely groovy. Great record.
Quality early 2000s alt-rock. This record shreds, including some hard rocking guitars and wailing vocals. Reminiscent of The White Stripes, with some of that grunge feel that Seattle gave us. This record slaps, as the kids say (I think).
Elvis Costello is one of those artists that I'm not sure what to think of. The music itself is okay, kinda goofy and quirky, but I suppose I just have a hard time taking it seriously. And maybe that's it - I'm not supposed to take it seriously. The music is poppy, boppy and whimsical. Vocals are easy enough on the ears, but he has a tone in his voice that's just slightly off-putting. This is...ok.
Nice. Haven't listened to this record in a long time, but I remember when it first debuted. Really enjoyed it then and still do today. It's a quirky, upbeat record with some interesting time signatures and rhythms. The melodies are cool and fun, as well as the vocals. This is a cool album.
Easy listening, good vibes. Rod Stewart has some corny moments at times, but this record is a nice listen. Some hits I've heard before, and it's a pleasant listen throughout. Not bad.
I know the order of these albums are randomly-generated, but itβs quite serendipitous that this record came up for me the day after Brian Wilson passed. This record includes so many hits that I remember from my childhood and they still hold to this day. This album is one of those one-of-a-kind releases, with its own unique sound that really made The Beach Boys who they are. The emotions sway and flow seamlessly throughout the entire duration, and Brian really brings it home with his excitable, yet sometimes somber, voice. Really great album. RIP Brian Wilson.
80s isn't really my thing, but this record and artist is a bit of an exception. Something about the synths on this one paired with George's voice works for me. This transports me back to my childhood and hearing these tracks in some of my favorite movies. "Faith" is still one of my favorite pop songs of all time. Really fun record. Happy Pride Month!
This rocks. Very punk and fast-paced. The music is quick and flows together well paired with the scratchy vocals. Solid record from a band that I know is coveted, but I'd never really listened to before.
Hard and energetic at times, definitely with a punk feel. The music is pretty cool, and the tracks offer some experimental sounds and compositions throughout. This was a unique one I'd never heard of before, but I dig it.
Distorted electronic chaos - I love it. Forgot how many hits Prodigy had back in the day, but this album certainly reminded me! And I learned that Kool Keith is featured on this record ("Diesel Power")! Really enjoyed this one front to back. It's upbeat, wildly experimental, great rhythm and just the right duration. Very solid record from a very fulfilling era in music history - the 90s may be the best decade ever.
Marvin Gayeβ¦what a legend. In my humble opinion, his voice and musicality is iconic and will resonate, both figuratively and literally, for decades, maybe centuries, to come. A friend shared with me that this record is about the divorce from his wife, Anna. As such, the record carries somewhat of a somber, yet also encouraging, tone. He comments on this experience, as soulfully as he does, recognizing the intimate and emotionally complex times. What a wonderful piece of music and Iβm happy to be alive to experience it.
Fun, funky, groovy. This record definitely fooled me as I thought it was much older than it is. Helmed by Neil Young, it makes more sense, but still, the music sounds like it's from the late 60's. Really cool vibe throughout with great instrumentation and vocals. Very jazzy and rocking feel, easy to listen to. I'd definitely listen again.
Kinda droney and dull, but it's decent enough. Has some folk/blues/Scottish(?) elements to it and keeps my ear. Some nice upbeat tunes and decent vocals. it's okay.
Prime hippie time. Such a lo-fi sound, but the emotion is still captured. Really nice record with some pleasant tunes. The vocal harmonies add to it a lot along with the backing instrumentation - really captures the era of the music. Very nice and simple record.
Fun record with the sound of its era. Nothing too memorable, but it's enjoyable to listen to. The music is quirky and upbeat and the vocals add nice accompaniment. I'd listen to it again.
This one surprised me a bit. It's got some elements of punk, some 90s alternative rock, and some experimental sounds. The vocals can be a bit uncomfortable at times, but the energy is always on. Reminds me of some punk records I enjoy, such as the Misfits. I'd say I like this one a good bit.
14 songs, 16 minutes - I love punk music. This record provides some in-your-face, energetic and gutter sounds. I dig the degenerate and debauchery content. Can't say I've been familiar with Circle Jerks before this record, but I like them now.
Such a gentle and beautiful record. Bjork has defined herself as such a distinct and unique musician. This album only further proves that as she whimsically takes us on this journey with her with her siren sound and free-flowing electronic production. Love me some Bjork.
The birth and ever-presence of cool, Miles Davis. What a fantastic, quick glimpse into the genius that is Miles. This record is such an easy one to listen to, keeping the attention high and just generally putting me in a good mood. The brightness of the record shines and it just sounds like the band is having a great time playing together, basically a recorded jam session. This is a fantastic album.
Can't say I was familiar with this band before this project. This is a nice record and very easy to listen to. It has a good rhythm and vibe to it all around and Rod Stewart is a pleasure to listen to. Good mood on this one.
Such a fun band. Redefining rock and making upbeat, engaging, unique music. The band and vocals mesh so well together and the chemistry is fantastic. Great record to get energized to.
The Cure have always had a dark and haunting presence to them and this record is no different. It's an emotional journey and story that this record carries, feeling the pain in the lead vocalist's tone. Not my favorite era of music, but this record is a solid one.
Very interesting record, but one that I enjoyed. Elements of surf rock, punk, alternative. It has a good vibe throughout and is easy to listen to and keep on in the background. The music is enjoyable and I would listen to this again.
Iconic sound and influence from this band. I remember first hearing them when I was young and thought it was such a taboo sound because of how grimy and grungy it was. This record continues that mood, and I'm all for it. Perry Farrell has such a distinct voice that will always resonate. I like this one.
I like the stranger things in life, like this record. The experimental mood, inconsistent sequencing and unexpected harmonies are cool with me. Albums like this pique my interest simply because of how zany and unpredictable it is, pushing the boundaries of music and humanity. Bring on the weird!
This album sounds like it tries to be something more than what it is. It sounds like it's offering a lot of unique and progressive sounds, but upon closer inspection, it's quite boring. The singer's voice is uninspiring and has me falling asleep. The music, at times, sounds like something that my high school music teacher would try and create - that's not good. I won't be revisiting this one.
This is a band I never really got into, but I dig their sound. Heavy guitar noise and drone mood, making for a mid-tempo somber effect. The vocals complement the noise and add a wavy, reverberating sound. It has its place in music, just not something I may revisit with regular frequency.
So this is the Bon Jovi record that has all his hits on it that I heard all the time in bars when I was a young 20-something. Overall, it's not bad, and includes some catchy, innovative tunes, but it definitely has its cheesy elements. I'm okay with this one.
Interesting one. Very 80s but with its own unique, punk/goth touch. It's certainly a darker record, but reminiscent of Bowie or Joy Division. The rhythms can be fun and upbeat, while the vocals add a nice complement of reverb and chorus. I can also hear how this band influenced other groups that came up after them. This one is good.
Strange, disconnected and chaotic. There doesn't seem to be much fluidity with this one and reminds me of something an adult child would produce. I've never heard of this artist or record before, and I'm not sure I would revisit it. I appreciate it for being weird, but it's just not for me.
Classic Americana sound. Janis has such an iconic voice - it's not always the easiest on the ears, but it resonates with distinction. The guitars and overall feel emanates the era of the 60s and the lo-fi grittiness that comes with it. Solid record.
This is one of those bands that saw the rise of bands like Sublime, 311 and Incubus and thought they could be part of the glory, but fell short. It's not terrible music, but it lacks the substance and innovation that those aforementioned bands carried of this style. The lyrics are amateur and uninspiring, even cringe at times because of how cheesy it is. Happy that I lived through this era of music, but I'm also happy that it has since faded into the abyss of time.
Interesting one. Has moments where it sounds like they have some rhythm and good tunes, other moments where it sounds like disaster and dysfunction. The lead singer is not the most alluring, but the music sounds okay, I guess. Probably won't revisit this one.
Alright, now this is getting a little weird. I get this record the day after Ozzy passes? This is the second time this year this coincidence has happened - the first being "Pet Sounds" by The Beach Boys the day after Brian Wilson passed. This is a fantastic record. "Changes" is such an important song to me and resonates so loudly with my being. The entire record certainly hits a bit different now that Ozzy has crossed over to the other side, but it does not objectively devalue its beautiful composition. Even the engineering and mixing is so impressive. Such a variety of moods on this record compared to another one of their classic records such as "Paranoid." This is truly an album that we should all listen to before we die.
