Reviews (page 14 of 14)
It's Sinatra. It feels like it's always been there, somewhere in the background, like I know even the songs I've never heard. This gets very samey very quickly, but it's fine in the background, doing its thing.
Can't really go wrong. easy listening, not something I'm going to sing along to though.
Recognized a bunch of the songs, but kind of forgetable
If you’re not buying what they’re selling in terms of fake whimsy then it’s incredibly hard to get invested in this crooner stuff. 2stars for genre defining!
“Ring a ding ding, you make my heart swing” - and other shit like that for an hour. Frank had a nice voice, but I just don’t connect to the crooners at all.
Didnt like it. Its too old, the lyrics and melody aint all that so yeah
I’m allegedly distantly related to this guy who punched Sinatra in the face, and I can say I’m not too upset about that. If I ever doubt the Beatles' impact on music, I will listen to this album to remind me of what a dark time it was before them (for pop, that is.) This is just the same song repeated fifteen times. Every songwriting choice is blander than the last, and the only salvaging factor is that Sinatra has a good voice. I’ve never been so utterly disinterested in an album before.
Not a lot of variety, except "making whoopee," which is definitely worth a further deduction
Misogynistic artists never cease to bore me; it is simply classic jazz paired with garbage lyrics. I fail to understand why Frank Sinatra's songs are praised as romantic and easy listening. Listening to this album achieves nothing but giving me a headache.
The least talented rat in the whole pack of rodents.
I don't get Sinatra
Still don't get Frank Sinatra. It's just so slow and lame, with zero spirit.
Meh con Meh. Volvemos a los hombres blancos. Would they be famous as in today? Every songs sound the same.
I can recognize that this album is at least some what good but OMG i found it sooooo boring. I couldn’t even force myself to finish it. Not for me.
Frank you, and the horse you rode in on
If I could give it a lower score I would.
1.8 achei as musicas mt parecidas e n é tão minha vibe
Swing is always fantastic and Anything Goes is particularly great. EDIT: Just learnt he's a Zionist. Fuck that noise.
Whatever. This is just whatever I guess it’s wedding music for assholes.
I do not get the appeal and the resurgence of this style of music.
You can appreciate the performers’ skills and its place in history, but the songs just aren’t up to the same standard. They all sound the same and the lyrics are uninspired. The sound is evocative of an era, but there’s really no reason to listen to this.
His voice gets under my skin and not in the way his song means. Songs are killer though
This was awful and I was miserable listening to it.
Sinatra may have been the man in the 50s but the sound is just too dated these days. Songs for Swingers is better than the other entries from Frank on the list but I'm still bored. "Anything Goes" was recognizable and a decent track I guess. "Makin' Whoopee" shows just how old and lame this album truly is. Nowadays it would be SZA or Frank Ocean singing "Gettin' Pussy" and would just be new and lame. Hoping we are done with Ol' Blue eyes. 1.19 stars for this record.
It's sinatra. It's fine
Loves to mention the moon.
To jazzy and old timey for me. Fly me to the moon and something stupid by frank sinatra will always be a goodie tho.
Wank
No. Sorry, Frank, but this is background music for Catholic perverts
While Frank Sinatra was a Grade-A piece of shit, it's not the reason that I hate him and his music. There's a smarm to his voice that I find cloying and insipid, and which belies what a garbage person he was in the same way that P-Diddy's weird drippy flow made him sound like a massive, leering creep. Maybe they both rot in hell.
Better then the other 2 Sinatra albums we've listened to. Still don't like Sinatra.
- Light, superficial love songs; not much variation. - Includes "I've got you under my skin" (the other songs are consistent with each other, but can't compare). - Can't see myself listening to this very often... I definitely prefer a best of album to this one. I get tired of it really quickly - there are 15 songs, for me, it would be more enjoyable as, like, 5 or 6.
Never was a fan of the Big Band era. And I never thought Frank's voice was anything but average to mundane. Probably good after sipping several martinis though!
That's repulsive.
Not for me.
Hate this guy and his music
I do NOT like music like this. It sounds old and the lyrics are all lovey dovey. It's too upbeat, all the songs have the same instruments and sound so similar. I know it's classic or whatever, but I can't stand this. It could be worse, because the instruments are played well. 2/10
pff
Sorry Frank, it’s not you, it’s me…
Are there still Sinatra guys? I'm inclined to think the appeal is to be transported to a different time, rather than actual enjoyment of the music itself. I just find it corny, and it didn't age well. I'm sure to some, they hear class when they listen to Sinatra. I don't.
I'm going to say something probably controversial now. Did Sinatra really have that good a voice? Like, it's really lovely, but it's almost like he isn't singing. It's like he's talking really really nicely at times. Every track is very similar, I can't lie. That repetitive double bass 'badum badum badum' and the drum sticks with a brush on the end to get that distinctive sound. Maybe a bit of trumpet or twinkling piano here and there. I also dislike how Swing music sounds as if it's so off the cuff. This is most noticeable on 'Pennies From Heaven'. I'm so used to the Louis Prima version and listening to Frank's version it honestly sounded like he was plucking the vocal notes and length out of thin air. You'd have no chance at guessing what's coming next and trying to sing along is pointless. I'd have to REALLY be in the mood to listen to this. One star does seem harsh but after 15 minutes of this, you've already heard it all and you still have another half an hour to go. Sorry Ol' Blue Eyes.
bleedly boop dah duh who gives a fuck. I hate this shit so much.
Not a big Sinatra fan. The songs on this album for the most part were pretty ordinary, with simple lyrics, and uninteresting music that didn’t bring out the greatness Frank is capable of and lauded for. If I never hear this album again, I will not care one bit.
what a douche
blah
Fuck this Olive Garden ass garbage
Not my stuff
It all sounded like the same song tbh. Not a huge fan
yawn
What’s that Frank? You like potato chips and you want to know if I do too? Clown ass dude. That Makin Whoopee song was corny as hell too.
Tried, still find crooning really boring
Fuck this shit. I’m pretty sure this album is all the same song regurgitated like that one episode of bagpuss where they keep using the same biscuit and make it look like there’s a whole biscuit factory going on behind the scenes. Awful.
Hi everybody! What a wonderful album, oh golly gee whiz! Well now, this is the bee's knees, I gotta tell ya! THE antidote for all the east-coast rap I've been getting. That Frank Sinatra sure is nifty! { Okay, I can talk now... some goon who I overheard being called \"Johnnie the Finger Breaker\" just left to use the toilet so I gotta write fast! I'm tied to chair in a warehouse, address unknown, except it smells like fish and sweat so I must be near the docks. Couple hours ago I'm in my usual coffee shop, writing this review of Frank Sinatra's \"songs for swingin' lovers\" (hey! it's not capitalized on the album, why should I have to follow the rules?) about an hour ago when all of a sudden these two huge hairy guys come walking up behind me and ask, in the most sinister way you can imagine, \"Are you writing a review of Frank Sinatra's \"songs for swingin' lovers\" for your 1001 Albums generator site?\" and I said \"No, this is, uh, this is just a quick email to my sister stationed overseas! See, she joined the Army last year and I haven't talked to her in a whille...\" \"HEY,\" one of the thugs says in a stage whisper (at least they have a modicum of politeness, or maybe they were just trying not to draw attention to themselves), \"I can SEE the album art right there on your laptop and the too-small review box right below it! You think you can pull a fast one on us?! Well guess what Shakespeare,\" (aww! thanks man!) \"you ain't writin' nothin that we don't tell ya to write, capiche?\" \"Kuh what? I'm sorry, didn't quite catch the last bit there my good man (trying to buy time -- I hit the power button on my phone 5 times in quick succession to alert the authorities -- you know if you do that, you can call 911? Pretty cool feature, on the iPhone anyway) and the other guy says to me \"OH! A WISE GUY! Hey Johnnie, we got us a wise guy!\" Then they both start laughing hysterically. Well, no sooner do they STOP LAUGHING ABRUPTLY than I find myself tied to this god damn chair, and I'm trying to put together what happened between then and now. And good lord do I have a headache. Anyway, I really disliked the Frank Sinatra album, except for "You Make Me Feel So Young," which I only feel OK about because it was in that movie Elf, which is a fun time. As is the song "Pennies From Heaven," but it's the MUCH better version by Louis Prima, of course. Jazz is not something to approach casually. If this is your entry point to Jaz, then by all means, have a good time. The arrangements are perfect, every accent is perfectly timed, perfectly placed. But Jazz, like Rock, has some edge, it has some underground origins. This bears little resemblance to the Jazz of Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, etc. But, you know, I guess everyone has to hear Frank before they die. (Insert bad Amy Winehouse joke here.) OH! These dumbasses used blue painter's tape instead of duct tape! HAHAHAHA! My lucky day! Well cats and kittens I AM GONNA skedaddle before Fingers McGoo (or whatever) comes back to slap me again for dissing the once great Sinatra. I guess those Mob connection rumors were true after all!
I hate Frank Sinatra. It doesn't surprise me that he was a swinger.
One paced.
I don't care about this fellow
Good songs but not my style.
Jesus fucking christ
Fucken pish
No
boooooof 1/5
Hat sicher bessere Alben gemacht.
It blended together and it was hard to distinguish one song from another. However it didn't make them all feel connected, it was just boring and mundane. I didn't feel anything so even though it was possible and I didn't care. The fact I forgot it was on is 1 star
THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN HACKED!
Simply the worst genre of music on the planet. I just don't get the appeal of identikit, unemotional swing, with a singer putting in as little effort into his delivery as humanly possible. Sinatra's popularity baffles me. He's no better or worse at this kind of singing than anyone else, because it's the laziest, most untechnical type of singing imaginable. And there's no depth to any of the songs musically or emotionally either. At this time, Elvis was writing Heartbreak Hotel and musicians of colour (who Ol' Blue Eyes would obviously have hated) were creating electric blues music. Why is this the prevailing genre? Fear of having to hear this kind of music is what's stopping me from going to an American wedding, as well as not knowing any Americans.
not my thing
Nie dla mnie :(
Not for me.
i hate frank sinatra. i hate swing. i’m a metalhead. this is crap to recommend to a person like me.
bad
i see you. i can see you. i don't know if you can. do you remember? he told me you didn't. but this should be enough for you. adrian, michigan. not now. not soon, much later. you will be notified. they are here and there are many more coming. goodbye.
It's Old Blue Eyes, never have been a fan.
I unapologetically despise big band crooner music. Frank Sinatra is uninspiring, lame and looked 40 as a teenager. This is awful, anyone who willfully listens to this is either super old or super lame. 1 star
😏
Noooooo thanks!
Did not listen
Sinatra. Typische muziek voor een liefdesscène van een romantische komedie. Het is goed te luisteren, goed gespeeld en goed gezongen. ****
not kanye
I’m not a fan. Obvs great voice. Not for me.
Nothing special. In one ear and out the other
Swinging lovers?. Frank you old dog
Great album
Nice
