I can't think of anything redeeming about this album. It's an hour that I will never get back.

Everything But The Girl
1/5
I'm beginning to wonder who chose these albums to listen to before you die.
I didn't expect to like every album but hoped to at least get an idea of why people liked different genres or thought particular artists were the best thing in the world.
There are some albums that have done this to me but then there are albums like this. I didn't listen to this back in the day and I can't imagine I would ever listen to this album by choice again. It isn't bad (unlike some albums by my favourite artists) but it is just so dull.

Brian Wilson

Maybe this needs a more in-depth listen but other than some glimmers of the genius that Brian Wilson once was, there was nothing for me here

Not a bad album but not a top 1001 album. If you want to listen to an average indie album just pick one at random.

Fela Kuti
4/5
Thought I'd start listening to some new music through this site rather than the same old albums and genres. My plan for 2023 and beyond is to listen to 1 of these albums a day until complete.
I loved Cream and Blind Faith but never really looked any further into Ginger Baker's output.
This album is a great listen but as I was working it was turned down quite low - time to listen to it again cranked up a bit. I've not listened to this genre before but when it finished Spotify played some similar music and I think I might explore it bit more widely.
Black Sabbath
5/5
This album needs no listening, a staple from my days at school, university and beyond. This is a fantastic album and is peak Sabbath with the whole band being on top form.
Some great heavy tracks like Wheels of Confusion, Snowblind and Tomorrow's Dream through to the delightful ballad that is Changes and instrumental Laguna Sunrise and not forgetting Supernaut that has been rejuvenated through Iron Man.
Doves
3/5
Quite an average album for me, listened to it a couple of times - I wouldn't turn it off it it came on again in rotation but nothing to really engage me.
The B-52's
4/5
A great album and it doesn't sound over 40 years old. A reminder of how much fun and inventive music used to be.
Couldn't help putting it on again to listen to as I enjoyed it so much
Joni Mitchell
4/5
A fantastic album from start to finish with great contributions from people like David Crosby and Graham Nash on Free Man in Paris and Robbie Robertson on Raised on Robbery.
If you love Joni Mitchell you will love this album, if you've not listened to Joni before you really should listen to this, and if you don't like Joni I'd suggest one more listen to this album.
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
2/5
A couple of good tracks on the album, The Message brings back good memories and the first few tracks were interesting to listen to as a change to the music I normally listen to.
I lost interest about halfway through and turned it off; I don't think I'll be listening to it again.
Afrika Bambaataa
2/5
I don't think there was anything that I liked on this album but I can't bring myself to give it a 1 :(
The Rolling Stones
4/5
No duff tracks on this album with some absolute classics like Wild Horses and Brown Sugar.
What's not to like about this album

I can't think of anything redeeming about this album. It's an hour that I will never get back.
Black Sabbath
4/5
Wow, what a debut album!
This has some of Sabbath's best tracks on it - the title track, The Wizard and NIB
Give your ears a treat and put this on. LOUD!!!!
Radiohead
3/5
The Beau Brummels
3/5
A lovely album - reminiscent of so many other artists and tracks.
Surprised I've never heard of them before
Joan Armatrading
4/5
I knew the hits of this album from the radio but have never listened to Joan Armatrading - I'm sold, this album was great and she has a beautiful voice.
It's to hear albums like this that I joined the project
ZZ Top
4/5
More bluesy and less commercial than their better-known tracks, this is ZZ Top on form.

The title says it all, this album is Bad in the real sense of the word.
I'd never listen to this album by choice in the first place and found no enjoyment from it. It needs to stay in the past.

Led Zeppelin
5/5
What an album from the opening note of Good Times Bad Times through to the final notes of How Many More Times this album is fantastic.
The driving rhythm section of JPJ and Bonham, Page's guitar Plant's vocals are spot on throughout.
Listen to this and listen to it loud, your ears will thank you
Miles Davis
2/5
This album sums up jazz totally for me, a number of great musicians playing in a band but all playing different tunes.
I'd love to get into jazz but despite trying numerous times it still grates on me.
I won't give this a 1 as I'd rather listen to this than some of the other albums but if I ever play it again it will be by mistake.
Carpenters
3/5
Some great tunes but not my cup of tea
ABBA
3/5
I enjoyed listening to this but unlikely to be spinning it again.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions

Anita Baker
2/5
Anita Baker has a fantastic voice but I find this type of music just so boring and has nothing to grab me.
Grateful Dead
4/5
I'm not a big fan of Grateful Dead but I've had this album for a few years and it comes out every so often.
Some of their best tracks on this album

Dexys Midnight Runners

Meh - wasn't bothered then, not bothered now
Kanye West

Not even going to bother listening to this. Very few albums with the explicit content warning have been listenable to so I won't waste any more of my time on them

beautiful album
Fela Kuti
4/5
I joined this to find music & genres that I'd never listened to before. I've heard 2 Fela Kuti albums now, love them both and they are now in my vinyl rotation.
Definitely exploring thus genre further.
Spiritualized
4/5
Really enjoyed this album - some of it is quite britpoppy and some is a bit more spaced out.
Animal Collective
3/5
Adele
2/5
I'd give this 2.1 to keep in line with the album title. Adele has a beautiful voice but this album is so bland it could have been called magnolia
Dusty Springfield
4/5
What a great album!
Ella Fitzgerald
3/5
Ella has a great voice and the songs are great but not for me.
Kendrick Lamar
1/5
R.E.M.
4/5
It's easy to say this album isn't as good as some of the older REM albums but it is still a classic and has some cracking tracks on it.
I bought it on the day it came out and it is still in heavy rotation
Flamin' Groovies
3/5
Otis Redding
2/5
I think I must have no soul. I can appreciate his voice but it does nothing for me and I find it quite dull.
Nico
2/5
Not an easy album to listen to or like. I had expected to like this album and was so disappointed and probably why no-one had ever recommended it to me.
I think with a different singer I would have rated this album much hight

Stevie Wonder
5/5
I often used to discuss new bands and albums with a good friend of mine and he often replied with it's ok but either Stevie Wonder or Steely Dan had done that only much better.
This album is full of great tracks, ok Isn't She Lovely is a bit cheesy, but that is far outweighed by Sir Duke and Contusion.
This is an album you should definitely listen to
Ice Cube
1/5
I don't need to listen to this album before I die.
Funkadelic
4/5
Great album that I wouldn't have listened to without this site suggesting it.
I need this on vinyl!
The Black Keys
3/5

Bill Evans Trio
2/5
Jazz, nice
Not my cup of tea though
The Damned
3/5
The Cure
4/5
Meat Loaf
5/5
What can you say about Bat out of Hell? It's loud, cheesy and it is fantastic.
There isn't a bad track on this album and I know that having listened to this over the weekend I'll be singing it for weeks.
Put it on and put it on loud - rock out and love it for it's corniness!
Metallica
1/5
Not for me. This music might be great fun in the most pit but not at home
Faith No More
3/5
I enjoyed this album a lot more than I expected to, will I listen to it again? probably not but I wouldn't turn it off.
Highlight for me was War Pigs
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
Very enjoyable listen with such a 60s pop vibe to it. There are probably other better bands and albums from the period but I enjoyed it and nearly 60 years ago I can imagine it would have got a lot of air time.
John Martyn
5/5
5/5
Herbie Hancock
3/5
More accessible to me than most of the jazz albums I've heard. I'm going to start listening to this regularly to see if I can get more into it.
Chameleon and Sly were the highlights for me but Vein Melter just sounded like a bit of ambient music.
Hot Chip
2/5
Another album that makes you question this list.
Duran Duran
4/5
A really good album, takes me straight back to the 80s.
Sebadoh
2/5

4/5
Really refreshing to hear this after a long time, not their best but it still rocks
Beatles
2/5
I love the Beatles this isn't my favourite album.
David Bowie
4/5
Rush
4/5
I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed this album back in the day.
Not enough albums have a single track taking up a whole side these days.
Nine Inch Nails
1/5
Possibly would have liked this when I was a teenager and I can imagine they are great when you are in the moshpit but it's not something I will ever listen to again
Fats Domino

Interesting album and given its age it sounded great. Again, not sure I'd listen to it again
Stan Getz
4/5
Cat Stevens

5/5
Very little can be said about this album that hasn't been said a thousand times already.
From the opening beats of Speak to me to the final notes of eclipse this album is 5*
Tracy Chapman
2/5
I remember when this album was everywhere after the Nelson Mandela tribute concert and at the time I didn't see the fuss about it.
It's one of those albums where you know someone else has already done it only better.
I gave it another go but to me it is 11 tracks that are all pretty similar, there's nothing here to keep me gripped
Incredible Bongo Band
3/5
What a great concept - more bongoes!
My Bloody Valentine
3/5
Quicksilver Messenger Service
3/5
Miles Davis
2/5
Part of taking this challenge was to listen to albums and genres I wouldn't pick but choice but the more I listen to jazz the more I realise that I will never like it.
To my ears this sounds like cheesy background music
The Doors
4/5
Great album
N.E.R.D
1/5

The Who
1/5
I understand why this is loved but as many have said not sure why a live album is included here
Emmylou Harris

Probably won't listen again but wouldn't say no
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
3/5
The biggest trouble with this list is that music is very much about the context in which it is listened; I did enjoy this much more than I thought but I'm sure if I was sitting in a tropical setting with my wife, a pina colada and able to swing my hips I'd enjoy it a lot more than listening in an office in Devon while it is pissing down outside.
Deerhunter
2/5
Some albums you put on and they make you sit up and listen because they really grab your attention and you either love it or hate it. Unfortunately this one just played on and there was nothing in it to grab me.
I really wonder who puts these lists together, is the top 500 albums ever by sales and then 500 that they bought because they were in the cheap bin?
Stan Getz
4/5
Fantastic, finally found some jazz I can enjoy
Oasis
3/5
Joy Division
1/5
My housemate at uni loved Joy Division and I wouldn't let him play it on my hifi. I was in two minds about listening to this and wondered whether I would realise I had been missing out on something for the last 35 years.
I wasn't; this album is as bad as I thought it was back in the 80s. I've no idea why Joy Division are held in such high regard, maybe it is a live band thing.
I'll try listening to this in 35 years time to see if I've changed my mind but sincerely doubt it.

It's a sin to suggest this needs to be listened to at all and my hifi said it couldn't happen here.
It was like I was in a nightmare, I thought what have I done to deserve this and shouted I want to wake up
I decided to give it one more chance, I paid my rent and caught the train to Kings Cross to head into London to do some shopping but I didn't have the heart to buy some hit music.
That's about the best use of the tracks on this album. Sorry, I don't like PSB and won't be listening again
