Reviews (page 13 of 13)
Good album and good voice, not my usual taste but the fast tempo wants to make your feet regardless. 5/10.
Didn’t grab me Mid oldies music
I don't think I dislike this really but it's also just not interesting to me. Little Richard's energy and vocal talent is undeniable and just really enjoyable but I guess I don't care for the musical accompaniment much if at all, I feel like I'd be more into this sort of rock n roll thing if I had grown up with it. Saying this makes me flashback to this person who told me they grew up on Little Richard's music and how much it brought them joy and fun, which made his passing even more sad to this person. I wish I could share those same emotions about this album but ultimately, I don't :/
Blues/R&B, and a precursor to Rock and Roll. Always cool to hear where iconic songs like Tutti Frutti came from, but a lot of the songs on the album had a very similar beat/pattern that made everything feel a bit stale to me. The sax solos and riffs were always a highlight though.
All songs sounded the same.
Hope you like the three chord piano blues, because that's what you get here - in spades! The guy sure can sing though.
I don't mind a Little Richard song. Maybe even two. A whole album got really tiresome, though.
I’m sure this was fire at the time but now it’s just kitschy. It’s like Hansel opined of Sting: “I don't really listen to it, but the fact that he's making it, I respect that.”
1 1/2 Sterne
It's not bad, but it doesn't really tickle either. The mix is very old timey, and the vocals are right there in your face. It becomes a bit much to me.
Guess it’s entertaining
Not really into rock and roll
Not my style
A couple of good tracks but an awful lot of filler
Pre-listening thoughts: tutti frutti aw Rudy Post/during listening thoughts: well every song sounds exactly like tutti frutti. 50s music is just… ugh. 4/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: tutti frutti Least fav tracks: can we just change the chord progression please
Not my kind of music.
Quite repetitive, Hooooo!
Didn't HAVE to listen to this before I died. I knew most of it and it's not really my cup of tea.
5/10
Clearly of it's time, and can imagine it was all the rage back in the 50s when better music hadn't been invented yet. Enjoyed the few familiar songs on there and quickly realised because of that I'd already heard about 50% of the album because they started to sound the exact same. Little Richard by name, but could have done with even smaller amounts of Richard, as after a few songs the hootin' and hollerin' was just a bit too much. Too much Dick for my liking.. and in the words of the great Ice Cube, big dicks is bad for your health.. and in this instance, my ears too.
Not that it wasn’t good, but very much of it’s time and I didn’t really enjoy it. Constantly screaming ‘WOO’ just had me thinking of Rick Flair. I don’t enjoy people who has as much energy as this little compressed man. Again, good, but not for me
I know he's a legendary singer and all, but I can't stand that "yell" that he does. Much of the music also sounds exactly the same.
I'm very grateful for Little Richard's service to rock and roll but I think we've moved on.
Good old rock and roll
okay. Little Richard. There is only so much 12-bar-boogie that I can take I realize this was the dawn of rock and roll, but damn. This is just homework now. It's essential history, but, like films from the 30s, I'm not inclined to just throw it on for entertainment. Good Bits: Long Tall Sally Skips: Everything that sounds exactly like Long Tall Sally.
kinda mid
Appreciation rather than enjoyment. The talent is undeniable so it was worth a listen just for that. But nothing I'd probably ever listen to again
This music drives me nuts. And Little Richard was a fraud. 1.5
You cannot overstate his influence. You read his Wikipedia page and basically every artist you’ve ever heard of says that he inspired them. I like how short the songs are. I like the insane frenetic energy. I think this is more a collection of singles and b-sides than a proper album, but given that he was basically inventing rock&roll, I’m willing to give him a pass for that. However, this is not an album - to the extent it even is an album - that I would ever put on to listen to for pleasure.
I get how influential album this is, but I would never really listen to this voluntarily
there were exactly 3 different rock and roll songs in 1957 and all anyone did was put different words to them, so i dunno how you could possibly need a 12 track record. nothing is particularly objectionable here on it's own, but it is not a good listening experience as an album.
listening to these first thing in the morning can be rough sometimes but you cannot deny staring ur day with A WOP BOO A LOO MOP A LOP BAM BOOM does bring a certain energy to one's cold, foggy morning commute
Big Richard must be proud
Boogie woogie is out of my element, sounds like an album full of single b sides. Got to oh why, may not finish it. The future is now old man.
I understand what this music meant at the time it was released. It definitely has earned it's spot on this list. With that said, for me it all sounded the same. Not one of my favorite listens. I do appreciate it's place in Rock N Roll, but would probably not go out of my way to listen to again.
Э. Long Tall Sally.
HLR is one of those albums that provided the framework for what was to come next in music, but like I’ve said before, that isn’t enough to make this all that interesting. For its time, it very much was, but it’s obvious music has just got better in the time since.
I'm impressed by how much variation there is in this album, as I was expecting a situation similar to the Jerry Lee Lewis album where every single song was the exact same riff, pacing, and energy, but this album slows it down at times, and I appreciate that. However, by the end of this very short LP I was still ready to tap out, as many of the songs are not only regular ol' teenyboppers, but they've been covered to death, and while I have to give some level of credit, if I don't like the song when the Beatles do it, I'm probably not going to care here. I know about half the tracks, but I liked the deep cuts more, as Little Richard's androgynous vocal delivery was intriguing at the very least, and that shined the most on the slow paced tunes. I understand how this shaped rock 'n' roll, and that many of my favorite musicians wouldn't be here without Little Richard, but that doesn't change the fact that I just don't care for it. I can give respect, but that's about all I'm willing to muster, although I admit I think a later record from Richard could grab me more, if his sound was tweaked a little bit.
I enjoyed a few of the songs, but by the end of the album, I was really getting tired of the shouting. He makes me think of Florence and the Machine; a talented vocalist with a unique energy, but trapped because that energy is so unique. I don't think I'll revisit this album sadly.
tutti frut
Tutti Frutti
Whatever dude
Too much Woooaaaaaarrrghhh
(initial thoughts) Interesting first pick. I'm familiar with Tutti Frutti, not anything else. at least I don't think I am, just from looking. My dad used to sing that one a lot. I know it's in some 80's movie, I can only assume he got it from there. (post listen) Alright, well, my first worry upon receiving this album was that it was gonna fall into the same "every song sounds exactly the same" trap that most 50's music does. and yeah, I was right. every song here does indeed sound exactly the same, with one or two exceptions. One thing I will say is that Little Richards energy is super apparent here, unlike some other records from this era. it's super clear he really did love to make music. Extra points for that, and of course for his impact on rock n roll, but overall this is still just kind of whatever. high two.
Ok. A nice piece of history. Thanks. Moving on ...
Sounds the same.
Sorry but this kind of music is best left to the museums .
Rock and roll, aber nicht erste Garde.
Aware of Little Richard and had heard a few tracks before many times. Not for me but understand why it’s a classic of it’s time.
Fine as it is, there's a finite amount of Little Richard's one trick music that I can cope with. I reached my limit way before the end of the album.
An old sound, ok but not my thing
Not horrible, but not great either.
that's a vibe. but not one I like
I respect the place in rock and roll history but 65 years of hearing these songs, they are overplayed and I don't find much joy on listening to them anymore.. 2 stars
Tutti Frutti we all know and have heard at every wedding we’ve been too. Or maybe school dance. I can’t remember. Anyway, classic song but then they all sound just like that. Got bored with it.
Album started off strong, a little heavy on the saxophone. However by the end felt repetitive with the same tunes and random shouts, just different lyrics.
Fun and easy to listen to, but after the first two songs you get bored because every track is the same exact formula.
2,5
I mean it’s hard not to tap your feet to this sort of music! Reasonably enjoyable to have on in the background but I kinda lost the plot at Jenny, Jenny with the repetitive lyrics.
Great songs don't get me wrong, but they're all very similar, almost to the point where it's a bit repetitive. Great vibe throughout and I love this style, but so far there's only a few standouts. Ngl by the end of the day I was pretty bored, there was too little variation. Still great songs but overall only 2 stars
Fun for the first 6-10 minutes then becomes repetitive. I'm sure it's technically good but there's a max amount of times I can listen to Rip it Up
Sama kappale uudestaan ja uudestaan. Joo kai se oli vähän sitä aikaa. Aika perus vanhaa rock and rollia. Kuuluu tietenkin kuiteskin listalle. Laulajan huudahdukset hiukan ärsyttäviä. Parhaat: Tutti Frutti
I appreciate Little Richard's virtuosic piano playing and his amazing voice, but these songs were pretty much just all 12-bar blues with minor variations in arranging and phrasing over the top. It was fun to listen to, but felt like just a bunch of rehashes of the same song. Two stars.
Som nån annan skrev, Tutti Frutti, Ready Teddy, Long Tall Sally, She's got it, Jenny Jenny är "samma" låt. Det är väldigt lite skillnad.
- not something I would choose to casually listen to - I’m sure by general standards this is a great album just not my favorite - kind of stressed me out
Eeeehhhh - it's not bad, but it's not exciting. I can see how it might have been mind-blowing in 1957, but we've had Ziggy Stardust and 'So What' by Anti-Nowhere League since then. Maybe I'm a little jaded.
kennt man ofc aber ka ob des so gut geaged is
"Tutti Frutti" is a decent song though its subject matter is surprising (look it up; you'll be surprised if you don't already know). The rest is ok, but mostly of its time, including the lyrics which are generally coded language for sex that sounds all the more thirsty and horny for plethora of double entendres. Little Richard sounds histrionic on most tracks. The contrast between his shouty freakouts and the staid, possibly bored rote support by his backup singers made me laugh. 2.4 stars rounded down.
Liked Songs Tutti Frutti Long Tall Sally
6,5/10 Highlights Tutti Frutti
I can see how this was ahead of time, but unfortunately in today's age it doesn't work. Nothing more than a fun listen but it gets boring quickly
i guess it was good, but not one i would listen to freely.
Cool, the way you worded it sounds a lot like evolution. The majority replicates something that they know already works with little to no differences, and then there are mutants that might start a new meta... or be utterly disgusting. I guess the successful experiments are already on the list, and the unsuccessful ones are not included for a good reason. It would be a musical Kunstkamera otherwise Safe indeed
Wop-Bop-a-Loo-Mop, alop-bom-bom! It's hard to have any old-time rock 'n' roll heroes with all that we know, but I'll take Little Richard over many others most days of the week. I'd rank it higher if I liked this genre more.
4/10 Unpolished due to its old mechanics
Little Richard made our ride to the dispensary more interesting and groovy. I wouldn’t voluntarily put this on, though I did appreciate the pure talent and soul that went into creating each record!
Not my favorite. Good musician just not my kind of music.
idk man this shit sucks
I could only find the deluxe album, which I'm sure detracted from the experience, as it already felt very repetitive with just the original tracks. I like Little Richard and would likely not skip any of these songs if they came up on a playlist individually, but I can't say I really enjoyed the album as a whole. "Can't Believe You Wanna Leave" was by far my favorite, and easily the most unique song on an album that felt like one run-on sentence. 2/5
Not my type of music tho.
If you the same song and record it 15 times with different lyrics, it isn’t exciting. No matter how much you shout.
I can see why this is on the list. Def an early rock legend. I'll rate this for its place in music history but can't say I was super into it. It's poppin and lil Rick's rasp and his timely 'whoos' are a trademark. Kids in the day went nuts I'm sure.
I'm sure it's a huge entry in rock history. Makes sense that it is on this list but after a few songs these all ran together for me. A couple good hits and then a handful of very similar filler songs. Little Richard is deservedly an icon and I'll always love how The California Raisins immortalized a couple of these songs. That being said I don't think I'll be coming back to Little Richard any time soon. 2.0 stars
Wasn't really into this one
Fun
Decent
Never a big fan. But good to hear again
Everyone has heard of little Richard because of tutti frutti . That is a great track its just a shame all the other tracks, on the album, sound the same but with different lyrics.
There are exactly two unique songs on this one - 1 rock'n'roll and 1 blues. I prefer the former. And I know it's from 1957, but the audio quality is just horrible.
It doesn’t necessarily get more rock ‘n’ roll the louder you mix it.
Not bad but this is just dancing music imo
Ok — a bit fun but not one I’m likely to return to. Didn’t feel ‘whole’
Listened once. Very familiar but not something I could stand to listen to on repeat.
Every song sounds the same - don't mind having one or two of these kind of songs, but a whole album gave me a headache lol
It was nice, after a while it kinda turned into background noise. It also made me feel like i was sitting in a hwy 55. comforting but not exciting, don’t think I would listen again.
nah
Tutti frutti sets a pretty good standard for this album. Songs like tutti frutti, ready teddy, long tall sally are exactly the same. Highlights are the more bluesy songs like baby
Notable Track: Tutti Frutti
I just think this kind of oldie rock 'n roll is boring. I don't know, what sets this record apart from all the other ones like it, same instrumentalisation, similar vocals.
~ = good + = very good * = already knew the song Tutti Frutti =*~ True Fine Mama = ~ Can't Believe You Wanna Leave = ~ Miss Ann = ~
Classic but not a need to return to this album
Just sound like a rock and roll album from 1950s there nothing much here.
two stars for the fact I didn't get into it at all. not bad, but just not good.
Tutti Frutti // 1.5/5
Very samey after first few tracks
day 38. well … I wanted to like this more than I did. It’s an energetic, upbeat, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it album, but because it moves at such a blistering pace, I grew tired of it pretty quickly. Tutti Fruitti and Ready Teddy were indistinguishable to me and everything just feels … dated. As it should, I guess? But I’m largely rating based on how likely I would listen to stuff again and again, so … here we are. 2/5 feels about right? faves - idk maybe Slippin and Slidin, Long Tall Sally, Tutti Fruitti
It’s albums like this that remind me how profound 50s lyrics were.
Ladies and gentlemen, buckle up your blue suede shoes and prepare for a blast from the past! I recently embarked on a sonic journey to the dawn of rock and roll with Little Richard's iconic album, "Here's Little Richard." It was like hopping into a musical DeLorean and finding myself in a smoky 1950s dance hall, jiving to the beat of a revolution. Now, let's address the elephant in the room: this album is as dated as your grandma's doilies. But that's the charm of it, folks! You're listening to the foundations of rock and roll being laid, and if you can appreciate that historical context, you'll find yourself bopping along to the tunes. The album is chock-full of classic songs and sounds, like an old-timey jukebox that's been dusted off and cranked up to 11. It's a veritable treasure trove of nostalgia, and I couldn't help but be transported back to the era of sock hops and poodle skirts. However, like a vintage vinyl, there's a bit of a crackle to this listening experience. While I could feel the energy Little Richard brought to those 1950s dance halls, the vibe didn't quite translate to 2023. It's like trying to do the Twist in a world of twerking – a fun novelty, but a bit out of place. In the end, "Here's Little Richard" is worth spinning at least once as a learning experience, like a crash course in Rock and Roll 101. It may not be an album I'd return to regularly, but it certainly left me with a newfound appreciation for the roots of the genre. So, folks, if you're ready to take a step back in time and witness the birth of rock and roll, give "Here's Little Richard" a listen. Just remember to bring your dancing shoes and a healthy dose of nostalgia!
The quick beat songs all sounded like he was trying to get through them as fast as he could play and hoped everyone kept up. I liked the smoother beat and musicality of songs like Miss Ann and Oh, Why.
These are all the same song!
I don't think I'd be into music if this is what it sounded like. And I get how earth shattering it was at the time. I just can't get into it now.
Clearly talented... some classic tunes, and easy to listen to. Unfortunately, very repetitive and not really a complete album, more just a collection of songs. I wouldn't listen to any of them on my own.
Nope, he's too over the top for me. I can stand a song or two here and there, but a whole album of that.... I'll pass. 2.5/5
This stuff'll make you a god-damn sexual tyrannosaurus, just like me. Rip It Up is great. It's a variation of the same song, 15 times, it's a good song, but it gets a bit much. 2 / 5 stars.
theres only 2 ways to dance to this
I respect the talent and influence this album has, but it's really not for me. A lot of repetition and what feels like filler songs in between the few well known hits. Needed some pancakes with this one because these sounds are synonymous with a 50's diner in my mind.
Not a fan
I do like some early boomery pop, but this is too much 12 bar blues for me
I get why it is on the list. But it is not that interesting to me.
This album is ok. This album felt like it had like 3 different songs repeated 3 times. They are fun to listen to the first time, but listening to the whole album grew kinda old. Favorite song: Tutti Frutti Worst song: Jenny Jenny
Fav songs: - Tutti Frutti
Classic but for someone else‘s ears
Very repetitive, but great energy
Just too old
slitsomt i lengden
A highly influential album that deserves the legacy, but something I'll not listen to in full again
A collection of songs. Not an album in the sense we know it now. Cover art 4/5
Che roba esagitata. Sembra musica solo per ballare.
Marching Band Fodder
Tutti Frutti
It's one ok song over and over again for 30 mins.
2.5
Anyone who listens to music will know he has a very distinct voice. Still, not for me though!
This was a treat as it reminded me of my father. It is the music of my childhood. However on close listen I think there was only 3 variety of rhythm in the whole album and I could easily sing the same lyrics to 95% of the songs.
Ok. So. We have an original pressing of this record, inherited form none other than Mark Authier. That's pretty crazy, in its own right. It's well-played and is noisy and scratched. Which suits the music, sort of. Here's the thing with all these 50s/pre-1964 rock artists: I don't care. I mean, I do. But only insofar as it led to what I consider to be great Rock n Roll. I know that's dumb probably.
Tutti Frutti
Once you've heard one or two, you've basically heard them all, but there is value there.
Not my favourite kinda repetitive
One song. But it's a good song! I wasn't overwhelmed though, so will need to listen again.
full of energy and quite something for 1959, but much more than a couple of tracks and i am craving glitchy miserable downbeat stuff
Ok I guess. Little Richard had little effect for me
Pioneering Rock n Roll. Not my thing but popular songs on album (Tutti Frutti; Long Tall Sally.) 5/10.
Every song sounded nearly the same, just a slightly different tempo and different (repeated) words. It was fun, but nothing I'll listen to again.
Hippity hoppity, boopity bopity
Good jazzy 50s
Not great

Here‘s der Mülleimer.
Lots of wooos
Not for me
Every song sounds pretty similar to the last. Dull
Yea not for me at all. Too old
mid
This score is overly harsh, but I have a strong aversion to this music.
Did not like it. Recognized one song, but that was the highlight.
lwk ass
The Beatles really liked him... and HE really liked HIM... lol
He thought he was great so that’s saying something ..
Good album. He was a fun artist.
i’m ok fr
I accept the historical significance but don’t find any of this worth listening to as music.
Sooo generic/derivative
To be honest I really don’t like this genre // like the way old school rock-n-roll sounds
I don't think he realised just how loudly he was screaming into the microphone
Not good.
Here's 1 star. I thought it only fair to put myself in the mind of someone in 1950s America hearing this for the first time, but then I got really worried about catching polio, and this album was still boring and repetitive.
is this lil dicky?
Not for me. 1/5
Not for me thanks
Nope
Rock and roll clásico. No puedo opinar mucho al respecto
I can kinda get into the songwriting and instrumentals, though Little Richard's voice is far too abrasive for me.
Clearly Little Richard has been a huge influence on later musicians. This record holds no interest for me though. Is every song actually the same as all the others?
A classic, not my first choise
I deleted the album from my downloads halfway through. This is the worst album I've ever heard.
Its impact is undeniable upon listening, but in present context & through the lens of personal preference, each song appears to be an only slightly different version of the last, and the album ultimately falls flat with only Little Richard's clearly adept voice to lift it. Top song: none
lose
Not my cup of tea, pretty annoying
shiiiiieeet hvað þetta er leiðinleg fucking tónlist god motha fucking damn hlustaði á fyrstu 10 sekúndurnar af fyrsta laginu og ég slökkti á þessu, i dont give a shit ef ég er að missa af einhverju, 1 stjarna!
Can't really relate to the lyrics or style. Interesting retrospective on older pop music, but not really for me.
I don’t like rock and roll.
One song was fine, but the whole album feels too much.
As expected. A little too little Richard, and a little too repetitive
Es ist, was es ist. Historische 1.0
:(
Old music is old
kind of outdated, basically the start of swing/rock&roll but not that interesting to listen to
Love lil rich - reminds me of fallout
Overall some solid slow jams. Other fun and interesting songs. 2 - Play in the Sunshine - some breakbeats, Interesting song. 10 - U Got the Look - Fun song, good riff. 12 - Strange Relationship - 4 - The Ballad of Dorothy Parker - Good bassline. Interesting subject matter. Good song overall. 6 - Starfish and Coffee - Good Fun Song. 8- Hot Thing - 13 - I could Never Take the Place of Your Man - Good Song that turns into a jam piece. A fun jam ending. 9 - Forever in My Life - Wish the ending acoustic guitar was in more of this song. 7 - Slow Love - 16 - Adore - 1 - Sign 'O' the Times - 3 - Housequake - something to nod your head to 15 - It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night (Live) - Jammy 5 - It - Not really an impressive song 11- If I Was Your Girlfriend - 14 - The Cross -
