Reviews (page 12 of 13)
I enjoyed it somewhat (bit samey), but I respect it a lot. One of a handful of albums (as far as albums go anyway - I guess the singles on the radio & raucous live performances were more important back then?) that can claim to have kickstarted rock ’n’ roll. Plus unlike that Elvis fella Richard actually seems to have written most of his own songs.
Huh, turns out I know way more Little Richard than I realised. Decent. Made me wanna boogie.
little richard was exciting i suppose in a way that the music was funky and cool but that’s all.
normally I find a lot of early rock and roll very similar to each other, and that makes it hard to dig into, but this album was very refreshing and beyond the defining hits had a lot more to offer the genre.
Fun, upbeat, dated
Sain mitä odotin.
Melkoinen hittiputki kyllä. Ei ehkä koko levyn mittaisena kantanut, mut yksittäiset biisit hyviä.
The first song tutti frutti inspired that last song on the movie Grease. Also Rip it Up was in the movie La Bamba so it is a good sounding record. First released in 1957, I prefer this sound over that 60's psychedelic rock sound.
Little Richard has a great voice for that type of music. I like the rock sound but it still feels very poppy
Decent, but more of doowop fan.
Classic early rock and roll, Long Tall Sally and Tutti Frutti.
Good for what it is and what it did for modern music. Didn't really feel like listening to yelling yesterday, but some of those runs were really complex!
My grandpa is a total fan of such music. The album is one of the best in this genre. Anyway, it was fun just for like 2-3 songs. So, 5 from my grandpa and 3 from me.
Fantastic voice. Pretty fun Every song uses the same 3-chord progression, it seems. So musically and compositionally I didn't find it interesting at all.
Tremendously historically important artist but sadly a little dated for my tastes
This is the debut album from Little Richard and it's his highest charting album. Released in the late 50's, this album's music was a twist on rhythm and blues that would become early rock and roll, and it was very popular. Little Richard's iconic screaming vocals backed by the raucous music is something marvelous to listen to. It's no wonder this new musical genre caught on and eventually blossomed into rock'n'roll, with an opening album like this. Most people have heard Little Richard's singing, but it's nice to listen to an entire album of his songs.
Some undeniable bangers but not enough variety across the album
Some fun music that absolutely played a major role in the evolution of rock music.
Plenty of fun, youthful, Rock and Rollin bops here, bur not much beyond that for me. Favorites: "Tutti Frutti", "Can't Believe You Wanna Leave", "Long Tall Sally"
ok
This is fine and fun to listen to and yes of course one realizes just how seminal and influential this must have been (without LR, no … DNA, stem cells, etc, etc.) and it’s fun to imagine a previous generation hearing “A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop” for the first time. But it seems pretty basic to hear now and hard to get too excited about (one is so terribly jaded, one supposes). One also notes how the sax was once positioned to become the star of the show in rock and roll (instead of the guitar and behind the outlandish frontman of course).
Engergic, albeit maybe a bit repetitive. Still pretty decent.
You know what it is... and it sounds like the seminal rock that we expect... Tutti Fruti and Long Tall Sally are here. The other tracks keep the same energy and are pretty consistent. I'll give it props for what it represents, but I don't expect to come back to it.
Not bad some good tracks, good foundations for rock n roll. Basic everything good not greT.
Give it a 3 WOOOOOOO Give it a 3 WOOOOOO!!
very fun
A staple to rock and roll, just not my type of music. My grandma would love it tho.
Well mostly recognisable songs, sounding a bit samey, but in 1957 that would have been so cool and different. My parents were in their early twenties then and would have been used to going to dances with big band music. This would have been a totally new sound and paved the way for what was to come as well as helping a new generation break free from the status quo. 3*
Very enjoyable.
Good but a whole album was a bit much for this guy
Good if you like little Richard. Bit samey but fine
Pretty fun!
oui pionnier du rock n roll ca va
Was decent, couple of classics. Not much variety
Fun and trailblazing but songs are a bit on the same-y side to make for repeated listens.
I liked it!
How to Make a Dozen Songs Using the Same Three Tunes. by the great powerhouse of a rock-'n'-roll singer, Little Richard. (Includes "Tutti Frutti"!)
The template for this album will unfold is established early on, but that doesn't prevent this from being half an hour of fun. Plus, Little Richard was a charismatic, expressive singer who could carry even the more pedestrian material through character alone. 'Tutti Frutti' is a classic that deserves its place in the annals of rock 'n' roll, a wild, swinging number - but 'Jenny Jenny' and 'She's Got It' come close to capturing the kind of abandon that made LR such a draw. A honking sax and some proper piano pumping - good fun, even if there's not much to sit with once the music stops.
first listen one of the most influential artists of the 50s
Some good old fashioned rock 'n' roll, the way it was meant to be heard. Raw, charged and full of energy, this was Little Richard at his best!
Great voice, great song. But really only one great song, played with a little variation 10 times.
Aika svengaavaa kyllä vaikka biisit onkin hyvin samanlaisia keskenään. Mut hauskaa kuunneltavaa kyllä kun haluu larpata fiftareita.
Lots of energy and power on every song. He's a one trick pony, but the one trick is pretty amazing. It's pretty hard to rate this now but I'd imagine this blew people's minds back in 1957. Looking back though there's only a couple of songs on this album that are worth listening to again.
Obviously a classic, overflowing with energy, but 65 years later we have to admit it sounds rather basic.
Best Song: Long Tall Sally. Each two line verse feels like Little Richard is ripping it directly out of his soul. You can feel the recording technology (and his voice) struggle against everything he throws at it. Worst Song: Miss Ann. The vocal performance is good here, but I prefer the tracks with a faster, more urgent tempo. Overall: Little Richard comes off as absolutely electric here. The whole album has this manic feel, like it might fall apart at any second.
Little Richard is one of those artists I wish I could have come to know in context of the music sceen when he was first making music and coming in to his prime. I remember Little Richard from the 80s. This album does a better job at displaying Richard's talents, than how I was first introduced to his performances and music. I knew "Tuttie Frutti" (and possibly "Long Tall Sally") before listening to this album, but the remaining tracks were new. My favorite track was "Rip It Up" -- I liked the energy of that song. "True, Fine Mama" and "Can't Believe You Wanna Leave" were next in line. I liked hearing the blues influences coming through on "Can't Believe You Wanna Leave". The album was good. There were a few tracks that felt a little repetitive in their rhythms and construction, which makes it difficult to say a strong "yes, I would listen to the WHOLE album again".
Repetitive, like a lot of early rock and roll, but enjoyable and energetic. Favorite songs are Tutti Fruity and Ready Teddy. 3.5
It all felt kind of one note after the whole album was over but it was a good note.
Good album
All these jams sound the same. he is a pioneer of rock n roll. that is really cool
The best of this album IMO: - Tutti Frutti - Baby The energy! The passion! The power in his voice! Rock'n'roll! 3.2/5
Great voice, great attitude. Pretty much kick started rock and roll into life
Quintessential early rock and roll. Lyrics that are either nonsense or about simple romance (and repetitive either way) are saved by high energy music and vocals.
I just can't imagine a time when this was deemed cutting edge. enjoyed it though as a museum piece
Timeless fast tempo, screaming rock'n'roll. Never gets old. 3.5/5
Honestly, I was kind of disappointed by this album. It obviously is very influential and is regarded as an all time classic album, but I wasn't really impressed. A lot of songs are very repetitive, and seeing as they are all blues there isn't much variability in sounds between tracks. With that said, you can tell that Little Richard is a great performer and he injects a lot of life into the tracks. Favorite Track: True, Fine Mama
Reminds me of my Sunday’s when I lived with my dad
Little richard...... so little stars
Away in a manger in Bethlehem a star is born. Tiny Rick, aka Little Richard. The very first howling, flamboyant, "dangerous" rock star is born. 60 years later the formula is basically the same - be flashy, push conservative boundaries, give the people a reason to shake their arms and legs around and feel free for a few minutes. I thought it was gonna be a 50s snooze, but this album brought the heat. This wasn't the Little Richard I remember from 90s TV, although that guy was cool too. A wop bop a loo bop a lop ba B+
While the tracks get somewhat repetitive after a while, Richard's voice and energy make the whole LP an absolute blast to listen to.
pleasant old school raucous party music. Tutti Frutti is a classic, and there are various other songs here that are less good but still kinda neat.
I only knew Long Tall Sally and the rest was pretty cool as well, maybe not as good as that song but still a few foot-tappers. Just good ol' rock n roll. 3/5.
Good singles… but a full long player of essentially the same song was a bit much!
Another fine album. Not my favorite type of music, but I bet ashley would like it a lot. Fun music
Interesting to listen to this influential artist but personally I'm not really touched by it nor am I anything but indifferent to it
i liked it, but would have to be in a specific mood to listen again
hell of a voice, and a ton of energy. must've been a hell of a thing to witness back in his time. hard to get past the caricature we i have of him in my mind.
OG rock legend. Simple and good
Tutti Fruity is a classic, Rip it up is a new ear wig. But overall relatively samey. I can understand it's influence but still not the most interesting album.
Okee
I do appreciate Little Richard, but every song sounds exactly the same. That said, I really like "Rip It Up".
I enjoyed this but again, I didn't really care. Like I wouldn't listen to this music all the time but appreciated it enough
good but i dont think ill see myself returning to this album very often little dated rating: 7/10 fav tracks: tbd Least fav tracks: tbd
I think I’m just getting irritated with this website
Not too bad. The songs sounded fairly same-y but for the time it's good
All sounds the same but very energetic and easy to listen to. What a distinctive voice
some classics that everyone and their granny will know on this album. otherwise pretty samey.
3.5
2 1/2
Feels like any track on this could be on the great gatsby film score
Inoffensive but not interesting, background music
Ayyyy, pa ovo je okej!
If I could take one twelve bar album with a cool little guy wailing and some stronk saxophone workout to a desert island, it would be this.
Sure, every song sounds like either a faster or slower version of the last, but OH! Little Richard rocks harder than Black Sabbath.
A nice bit of good ol Rock n Roll. I will admit that only a few songs on here do shine
He’s having him some fun tonight. And damn that’s a lot of Little Richard songs.
Some hits on this.
Tutti Frutti is a classic tune! Classic blues rock soul kinda stuff. Real entertaining, easy 3, mayb not quite a 4.
Individually each track is great & it’s so easy to listen to. As an album, it repeats itself too often. 3/5.
It's good fun but after 10-15 minutes that's enough
Rock and roll. That's it. Best Tracks: Tutti Frutti, Long Tall Sally, Rip it Up
My wife refers to my penis as Little Richard which she finds incredibly amusing.
Niet slecht, en wat een energie. Moet destijds wel revolutionair geweest zijn.
Good fun, classic rock n roll.
A blast. Bit samey after a bit but imagine the carnage in 57.
Got a bit samey, but some classic tunes
Always original but I'm not from the time where my ears recognise the impact.

Very catchy and feel good, a bit repetitive but such a talented vocalist.
Aaaaaaaa sim, o famosso Tutti Frutti!
Some bluesy vibes. Not bad but not super special
Some good, some uninteresting. Low 3
I am pretty sure that I've heard a couple of these songs over one thousand times.
*piano riff* “WOOOOO”
Some good tunes but not really my thing.
WOOOOOO
Solid early rock 'n' roll. 6/10
Couple fun songs? Idk
Classic, but doesn’t hold up today. The repetition really drones on.
best OOOer out there
Album number 1: Besides the classics I forgot about "Can't Believe You Want to Leave". Hearing "Long Tall Sally" brought me back to the movie Backbeat. I wasn't feeling 50's music tonight but I'll objectively give it a go. January 12, 2021
Solid
Well known songs. Good to hear. But his shout/singing style is a bit much after a few songs to me.
5
Klassiker. Bäst: Long Tall Sally
Rock clássico. É meio casantivo
Was very short, but packed with soul and helped me start my morning right (:
Klassiske låter, men stilen og tiåret er not my cup o' tea, blir fort lei.
Catchy
not my vibe tbh
Omtrent som forventa
I hate this. Every song has the same melody, the shrieks are awkward and I genuinely can’t tell the difference between several of these songs. This album gets high praise for little Richard’s being a rock pioneer, and that’s cool, but it doesn’t make the music sound good.
I thought I just hated Elvis, but now I guess I just don't like 50s rock n roll. 1.5/5.0: Bad
I understand why an album like this gets included. But did very little for me. 2/5
Liian vanhaa.
Five Stars for Tutti Frutti as a song. But as an album, it’s the law of diminishing returns. All subsequent tracks are essentially variations of the same lead song. A cracking opener then. But thereafter… repeat and repeat again.
Dated
RnB is just not my genre. The vocals are beautiful but can't make the album enjoyable for me.
Some legendary stuff in this! However a bit repetitive.
I'm pretty sure I heard some of these in Fallout games before. Not quite my style but I can see how this would have been a big deal.
Review: This album was not that great. It wasn’t bad but it definitely was not good. There were some good songs like Rip It Up and Can’t Believe You Want To Leave but there were also some pretty rough listens. The main downfall was that it sounded like every song sampled every song. There was just no originality between the tracks and it felt like he was just copy and pasting the same template and then changing a few things here and there. The vocals were very good though and you can tell he has a passion for his craft for sure.
It was ok, I can appreciate the impact on people like Prince (a certain texture in their voices) but the songs all kind of sound the same after awhile. I did like “Oh why”
This sounds like the music that would play at American bars back in the days not my fav Day 4 !
A product of its time, I guess. Sorta fun, but also sorta grating on the ears
Not my type. Too much chuck berry ypu can never tell.
An early example of Russian interference as Little Richard apparently mistook Sputnik burning through the sky as a sign from god and turned his back on rock and roll for the next 5 years...
HooOOooO?
Original rock and roll music. Having already listened to "Tutti Frutti" before, I did not have high expectations for this album, but honestly this isn't that bad. It turns out this is one of those albums where the most popular track ("Tutti Frutti") is one of the worst.
Not too impressed
Enjoyable but repetitive
stop little richard
Gives Elvis Vibes but not as good
65
it was fine
Old skool rock n roll
Not my cup of tea
Tracks are all very samey, reminded me of the music the band played in back to the future 1. Lol had a similar sound Not for me
thought Louis Prima was good, then quite liked Elvis Presley, now you're just taking the piss
I don't enjoy listening to "Rock and Roll", always makes me feel strangely unnerved. That said, I appreciate that Little Richard was a great performer and I can see why kids in the fifties would dig it. Not for me.
straight ass 2 stars
Yeah, this is great! Obviously older but this is the sort of thing I wanted from this project. I spent a lot of the time reading about him on Wikipedia. Weird guy!
I believe that it used to be really cool at that time, but considering my current vision of music this is only 2
probably a hit when it came out in like the 1950's, current era: kinda repetitive and annoying
Childish, predictable, proto-rock bullshit. One point for basically inventing the genre.
not the mood
albums this old are so difficult because i know this was probably incredible when it came out but im suffering from recency bias ready teddy is so good instrumentally but i dont feel like the lyrics are that good. vocally? his voice is great on all these songs but the lyrics are best when i ignore them and listen to his voice as another instrument the songs in the backhalf are so samey.. it feels wrong but i think this is a 2/5
Not a lot I would come back to on this one. Long tall sally is always a great listen though. I think little Richard should stop being little and become big like the rest of us.
Not really for me. RYM: N Saved a song: N
Thank god the tracks weren't that long because this was a bore to listen to. Can't recall any memorable moments barr the track "Oh Why?" which had some neat lyrics and a different structure. Only track that made my ears perk up for a brief moment. Everything else wasn't to my liking. Don't get me wrong, this is a skilled band but it just isn't for me. Like someone else said: "you had to be there." 2/5
Fun! An important part of music history, but it got a little repetitive.
I bet if I were 12-20 when this came out it would have blown my mind. Also definitely music to be dancing to. Otherwise we be I-IV-I maxxing.
Probably out of this world at the time.
Not great Richard
I don't think this is ever gonna be my style of music but I can respect this more some other albums in this style because at least Richard has a unique voice that brings a lot of energy to all these tracks. This still has all the problems that i have other early rock n roll albums have with a lot of the songs here sounding very similar or the exact same in some cases and I'll literally never return to this but I can appreciate the vocal talent on display here and see why this is as influential of an album as it is.
It's historic and influential but I think don't need to hear it again.
too Much for one sitting. Probably good in small doses
This was alright, some bops, a lot of microphone clipping
A lot of the songs sounded the same but it was kinda fun.
I was expecting this one to be more fun, but it just passed right by me. No shade to ol' Richard because he has undeniable 1957 swag -- though Louis Prima remains king in the 50s Sauce department.
Solid for the time and absolutely the backbone of basically all rock music we enjoy today. However, it is genuinely all the same and it wears me down so fast. Great for dancing, just maybe not for me at home.
Some great tunes and obviously seminal, but as an album it's bland.
I can recognise the importance and significance of this album without particularly loving it. It's not really for me, but it helped influence a lot of music that was for me. Listening to it was enjoyable and I'm glad that I have.
It sounds good but isn't something I would listen to
Hugely significant album in terms of the development of rock and roll, but it’s not my vibe. Thank you for your service, Little Richard.
Too old school for my taste but I didn’t hate it.
Obviously massively influential album with how many songs sound like this but realistically it's the same song over and over again. Upbeat can be fun but a whole album of it is a struggle for me. Respectful 2
Cool.
I know it’s important, but I could never hear any of this again and be satisfied (2.5)
What do you want from me?
That's not usually the type of music I'll listen but Little Richard's contribution to music nowadays it's pretty clear. Great album
Just sort of boring. Incredible voice, absolutely incredible, but the song writing, while maybe standard for the time or even progressive, is so weak and obviously not his
Some good old rock n roll. Tracks like Tutti Frutti and Long Tall Sally are quite rightly classics and the piano driven, upbeat style is the blueprint for all here. Unfortunately that strength is also the album’s weakness, as it doesn’t stray at any point away from that and therefore all feels a bit too samey. Overall lots to enjoy, but not really a classic.
This sounded exactly like I imagined a Little Richard album would sound, but when you open with “Tutti Frutti”, the rest of it just falls into mediocrity.
Listening to this, I see the cultural influence and impact on American music. I just don't like it beyond its space-time context
2/5 While no doubt a historical and well-made fot its time, today a lot of the tracks feel a bit same-ey.
Was all right, but not quite my type of music. Listened a couple times, didn’t want to sing along though.
Sounds like every other 50s song
Omtrent som forventa
not bad but i just wasn’t really feeling it
I like the bluesy/jazz feel, but feel like I would appreciate Little Richard’s later work which has a more sultry feel over this album.
Probs crazy at the time
very much had to be there
I appreciate Little Richard's place and importance in music history. And if that's how I was rating these albums I'd give this a 5. But I'm rating on how well I personally like the album and music. And this is just not my style.
Literally groundbreaking, Rock & Roll stands on the shoulders of giants like Little Richard. I listened to a lot of music like this when I was younger, before I developed my own taste. These days, it’s tough to listen to this and not yearn for something a little more interesting. I feel like I could have just listened to Tutti Frutti 12 times and come away with a very similar experience. Listening to a record also means you miss the physicality of Little Richard’s performance. At this point, it’s really only interesting as a marker to show how far music has come.
My mom was born the year this album came out. It's crazy how society has evolved from there. Um, I didn't like this though. His voice attacks me. Top: Tutti Frutti Not Top: Jenny, Jenny
Chile whatever… love kennedy davenport ❤️
this wasn’t really my vibe, or maybe it wasn’t my vibe for 03:26 in the morning. man has a great voice tho.
I recognize its importance and its cultural impact on music worldwide. Still, I find it annoying.
it felt like one giant song
1) wail into mic for two minutes 2) sax solo 3) wail for two more minutes 4) rinse and repeat for 30 minutes If I didn't like the blues this would be a 1
It's aight 4/10
He’s great, just not my vibe
It's fun, but not one I'd feel compelled to revisit often. Its influence is undeniable. This doesn't change the fact you're basically listening to the same song 12 times.
Really not pleasant voice
It is very of the time and kinda same-same
Ass
I'm afraid I'll just never get into Rock n Roll, sorry Richard! I know, all the music I like would exist without this etc and so on, but I still cannot enjoy it, and my enjoyment is the only honest rating I can give
It's a good album overall, I just personally found myself bored after the first 3 songs and it's already not the music I naturally gravitate towards, It is fun though, and felt like a great representation of the Rock N' Roll of its time.
😐
I understand his significance, but screaming the same thing 300 times is not good for my brain
Another oldie, hard to give it a proper rating. Not something I’d throw on and a lot of it sounded the same.
Oops, all 12 bar blues 2
I accept that he has influenced pretty much all the artists I love from the Beatles to Punk, for that I give it 2 stars. I can only imagine though that there was bugger all else to listen to back in the day because to me it's just bloody awful bollocks.
He was a groundbreaker, but the musical style just isn't my bag for the most part.
ok Little Richard, we got the idea about 3 songs in
It’s just not for me…I’m so sorry guys!!!
Ok 👍
Repetitive.
Feels like being in an American Diner in the UK in the 90s. Very soulful in places. All this 50s rock and roll sounds approximately the same, but I guess it worked.
Find it a bit annoying to be honest.
Infectious in a few spots but maybe the best parts are the parts with the least little Richard.
musikk har kommet en lang vei
This rating is not a reflection on my appreciation of his influence on rock ' n ' roll. Its just not an album i enjoy listening too.
Alle låtene høres nesten like ut 🙃
That voice
"Here's Little Richard!" -Me presenting my meat to my girl while I'm standing naked at the foot of the bed, knowing damn well Little Richard will not meet her needs for the 14th consecutive time
Tutti Frutti cringe-ass songwriting, I don't like anything about this.
I see how this could be really influential but being honest this is just not my kind of music in the slightest. It’s very difficult for me to differentiate between each song, and though his voice is probably good on a more technical level, I just don’t like listening to it. Some of these songs are also sort of sickeningly upbeat. This is definitely not a bad album, just one super not suited to my taste. Fav songs: true, fine mama, she’s got it
There's energy and some good songs, but ultimately I don't think I'll be revisiting this album very often.
Not my style. Didn't even finish the album.
Many of the songs sounded similar to me. But I’ll give Lil Rick some credit, he can put some stank on it when he wants to
I feel like I don't want to rate this - I know it was super influential at the time but boooooy howdy I was ready for this to be over by about the fourth song
Long Tall Sally is pretty catchy, but this album just ain't my jam unfortunately. It's cool but yeah. 2/5 stars.
love the guys voice but all this sounds the same and is boring to my modern ears
Powerhouse, couldve died without this one.
I mean the record swings and bops and rocks. But do I really like it? Not really. It’s not bad (with the exception of Tutti Frutti which makes me want to smash the music player), it’s just not my thing.
Classic but doesn't bite me.
While OG rock and roll is important to any related genre and Little Richard was phenomenally important artist, I have no interest in listening to this one. I've heard the hits so many times and as so many versions, the few songs on this record I don't already know can wait for another time when I have an interest in dusting off the progenitors.
pretty old and all of his songs sound the same.
4/10 - they all sounded the same
Certainly an impactful artist without whom most modern music wouldn't exist. I don't just hear Elvis and The Beatles on here, but also Beyoncé's Honey songs from Renaissance or Cowboy Carter on a song like True, Fine Mama. That said, his songs might be best enjoyed as standalone singles rather than as this repetitive and thematically rather dull album. The concept of "the album" as more than a collection of random songs must have been still at its infancy at the time, so I can't fault Little Richard too much for it. The lyrical repetitions and lack of a interesting theme do take away from my personal enjoyment though. However, I also recognize those repetitions to stem from the Blues genre, which plays a majoy role on the album besides the revolutionary Rock & Roll tracks. A lot of the songs sound the same to me, and I can't see myself seeking them out. I can envision couples in petticoats and suede shoes taking it away on the dancefloor; for them this music must have been purely magical. I, in the year 2025, however hardly feel any magic.
yup these are some little richard songs
Blues aren't my thing
I just don’t enjoy 50s music, it all sounds too dated. (with the exception of Frank Sinatra) This is slightly better than other music from this period, but still not good
Little Richard did not give me pumped at the gym. That being said, it’s classic old Timey feel good tunes.
I understand the pioneering role and historical importance, this is undeniably an album that helped shape rock music. But time has moved on, and for me, it just doesn’t resonate. There’s a lot of energy and raw attitude, but it feels more like a piece of music history than something I genuinely connect with. It’s clear that you probably had to be there, part of the generation where this was new and wild. Respect for what it was. But not something I’ll be revisiting. 2/5
No disrespect to Mr. Richard but this album did nothing for me... I was only able to find the "deluxe version " which included lots of demo takes of songs- it was a little interesting to listen to at first but by the end felt repetitive and uninteresting.
Gøy, men litt kjedelig over et helt album.
little richard was amazing because he had sexual relations with other men but then turned christian and started bashing gays. :( not really my thing but this is influential so you have to give it credit..long tally sally was paul mccartney's first ever song performed in public which is SO cool. 1 star because of influence and one more star bc of the queerness best song is tutti frutti
nothing special, all the songs sound similar but i enjoyed the album overall, it really shows how far music has come
Listened in the truck via YouTube Music. The audio quality varied between tracks as well as volume. Lots of short 3 minute or less songs with his typical high pitch squeals. You can definitely see where the Blue Brothers and late 70’s and 80’s rock artists got their saxophone solo inclinations from. All in all I’d like to return to this on a different medium and try listening again.
I'm sure I would have loved this 70 years ago
Obviously a classic and hugely influential, but much like Chuck Berry they stuck to a very specific formula until the music world past by.
I appreciate the history and significance of the album and would very happily listen to any individual song again but god some of them sound so similar it became a bit of a chore to listen to the whole thing. Favourite: Oh Why? Least: Jenny Jenny
Getting kinda tired of these old ass albums. They’re not bad, just kinda ehhh
This album was OK. Listened to the deluxe version, but I'll just base the review on the 1st disc since disc 2 was mostly outtakes. I think that Little Richard is talented as an artist. He has great presence/power in his voice, but the songs themselves are much too thin for me to rank the album higher. There are about 2-3 styles he shows up with, and every song is some variation of those flavors. There's tutti-frutti, Rip it up, and then slow. Like you can sing tutti-frutti over half of these songs and it will fit. Take me back 50-60 years and it might be a 4 or so, but for now. 2.5/5
A little one note. I think I just don't care for classic rock.
I recognized a few classics. Brought me back to the days of animal house. Fun listen but not my thing.
I’m sure it was very influential in its genre. Not really my kind of music.
When Lil Pump wrote Gucci Gang he didn't realize he had become the Little Richard of our generation. I would never listen to this again but at least they had fun.
Good vibes but a bit boring old rock ’n’ roll. Too bad the production sucks, the sharp sound makes it tougher to really enjoy.
Little Richard has a Big Voice! This album did not do anything for me. It jsut seemed like more or less the same song over and over for 40 minutes. I appreciate the time period and the music of that day but I’m more of a Dion Dimucci and Frankie Vallie kind of guy. And that’s not a race thing. I really wouldn’t listen to any of these ever again by choice. No notable songs that stuck out to me.
I hate to say it but this album kind of bored me. Little Richard was huge in the development of Rock and Roll but this album and some of the music at the time in general all sounded so similar. This album in particular was just blues song after blues song with similar feel. Again I can't diminish the influence this music had on later music that I would love, but this album got tiresome. And I have to grade it on my opinion. Highlights: Tutti Frutti Jenny, Jenny
I am not the biggest fan of bluesy rock n roll for the sole reason that every single song (or at least 90% of them) have the exact same chord progression, and so you already know what to expect you every time you listen to it. It becomes stale, boring and repetitive so quickly that it just does nothing for me. I get that its dance music, me listening to it while cooking isnt the intended setting for it. On the other hand, I wasn't at a rave when I listened to Exit Planet Dust and yet I loved it. But when its the same instruments playing the same chords and the only change is the lyrics, key and tempo, it falls flat for me. Credit where its due, apparently this was the first real use of 8th note piano in rock n roll and that is obviously now a staple of the genre. The performances were good and Little Richard has a fucking cracking voice. It just aint for me. Praying we get a Daydream Nation or Doolittle tomorrow so we at least get some different chord progressions lol Favourites - Can't Believe You Wanna Leave, Rip It Up
Fair play for recording the same song 12 times with slightly different lyrics and convincing everyone you’ve written one of the greatest albums of all time. Tutti Frutti (8/10) True, Fine Mama (6/10) Can’t Believe You Wanna Leave (7/10) Ready Teddy (7/10) Baby (6/10) Slippin’ and Slidin’ (7/10) Long Tall Sally (5/10) Miss Ann (6/10) Oh Why? (5/10) Rip It Up! (5/10) Jenny, Jenny (6/10) She’s Got It (6/10) 6.2/10
It all had to start somewhere. It's bluesy boogie woogie, and almost every song sound the same. I got through it, and will probably never listen to it again.
1. frutti - 2.5 2. mama - 1.5 3. leave - 1.5 4. teddy - 2 5. baby - 1.5 6. zlidin - 2 7. zally - 2.5 8. ann - 1.5 9. uuhy - 1 10. rip - 3 11. jenny - 1 12. got it - 1 13. baby too - 2
Various songs I recognize so definitely a very influential and classic album, but not something I would listen to for my personal taste.
Well I get how important this is to musical history and all but it was a bit same-y!
It was all the same song. A perfevtlt ok but quite repetitive song.
Mycket som lät likadant, men härligt sound
Fine
a classic, for sure. just not my vibe
I know it was revolutionary at the time. He is energetic. Not that interesting to me now.
Goodish but not something I’d put on.
Fun for one song, then loses it's charm for me.
Great in it's day
You can see why this was popular in dancehalls - as much dull nonsense, repetition, and the gross sense of a bad smell as eurotrash.
As others have said here. Respect to the voice and the innovation of the time. But this is so dated now and all sounds the same. There’s only so much 12 bar blues a modern ear can take. Was probably a 5 star no skip album at the time. Not any more
Just sounds like 30 minutes of “Tutti Frutti.” Highly influential for sure, but not something I’d choose to listen to again.
2-3 dobri drugo e sve isto 2.5/5
nothing special.
