Reviews (page 8 of 13)

I once dated a guy who was OBSESSED with bob dylan. In that time, I felt like I needed to study him so I listened to a ton of Bob Dylan. When he is all you listen to, the sound gets kind of boring and repetitive but you start to hear the lyrics more which are so genius. That being said, I hadn’t listened to Bob Dylan meaningfully in a few years. This album is good but it’s not freewheelin bob dylan or blood on the tracks. Favorite songs: visions of Johanna & stuck inside of mobile

Previously heard 'I Want You' but nothing else stuck, not my kind of music!

Bättre en förra albumet

Bob Dylan is a great visionary but. His vocal range is just so monotone sounding almost spoken word much of the time

tommosta tausta folkkia, ei oikee sukat pyöri jalassa nut iha ok 6/10

Too much harmonica

I am sure it is great

It was decent. I think I liked it more than the other Bob Dylan album I heard on this list so far. Wasn't anything I'd jam out to, but was fun at times.

Not bad.

I just like when Jerry Garcia covers his songs. This guy probably was an awful hang

Ok, Dylan er chill å høre på. Ikke hans beste album da

i don't know if i much like this bob dylan guy.

2.5 (72:37, 14 tracks (some very long) 7th album, 1966) folk rock (blue rock) First (major label) double album somehow – odd it took to 1966. Blonde on Blonde completed a trilogy (1965's Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited.) Regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. Yet it peaked only at 9 Billboard Top LPs The two singles "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" (aka everybody must get stoned) “Just Like a Woman" are recognizable and good. "Visions of Johanna" I liked however overall the album has waaaay too much harmonica and Dylan’s voice is just annoying. He’s a polarizing artist, a lot of 1’s and 5’s. I was going to give it a two but it did grow on me enough I didn’t want to group it in with other 2s I disliked a lot more – begrudging 3 as I suspect other Dylan albums will upset me a lot more. Hate a lot of the lyrics – I know he won a Nobel Prize in Literture but I guess I’m just too simple to understand these lyrics as many songs just sound like some drunk guy rambling on to a complete stranger about some woman that hurt him. Nonetheless it’s ranked 38 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Dylan started recording in New York but changed producers and moved to Nashville – I speculate this resulted in deeper blues and country sound. Album cover - close-up portrait of Dylan, blurry, I like the cover. Track listing 1. "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" 4:36 2. "Pledging My Time" 3:50 3. "Visions of Johanna" 7:33 4. "One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)" 4:54 5. "I Want You" 3:07 6. "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again" 7:05 7. "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat" 3:58 8. "Just Like a Woman" 4:52 9. "Most Likely You Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine" 3:30 10. "Temporary Like Achilles" 5:02 11. "Absolutely Sweet Marie" 4:57 12. "4th Time Around" 4:35 13. "Obviously 5 Believers" 3:35 14. "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" 11:23

Average Dylan, very distinctive voice / harmonica combo here…a bit too much for such a long album. Could have been trimmed down a bit.

Same as the other album, very ‘innovative’ instrumental.

not much of a dylan fan

I’ve heard of Bob Dylan before. Favorites: Visions of Johanna, I Want You, Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again, Just Like a Woman, Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I’ll Go Mine) Thoughts: If I ever listen to this album again SKIP THE FIRST TWO. These first two were so hick/hillbilly it turned me off the album but after that it was alright. I hate the harmonica, and the first two songs feature it so heavily. Somehow over the course of the album my ears opened up and I was able to enjoy the return of the harmonica on the back half of the album. Bob Dylan is a wizard but the first two songs still suck.

i really wanted to give this a try since it's not my usual style at all but the harmonica was overwhelming, like, sometimes less is more. some songs were okay tho.

Somehow harmonica returned

middle of the road bobby d for me

It’s nice, not something I’d listen to normally but not bad

Este álbum tiene muchas canciones donde me imagino a los gringos yendo al bar a ahogar penas Justo like a woman es la mejor rola del álbum Harmónica on fire 3.5

I don’t really have much more to say after reviewing like 10 Bob Dylan albums.

A few great songs but as many i do not care for. He has the voice of a work on a string, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Couple good couple so so - got old

Nice work musically, Dylan's Voice can be hard to stomach.

Overall good but I still have the same problem with this Bob Dylan album as I have with many of his others--it's more or less the same song over and over again for too long. He's truly better to me in moderation and 72:37 of his music is not moderation.

The movie definitely helped me like Bob Dylan more

I like Bob Dylan, but sometimes his voice tears me out.

Not my fav of his

Ei ehtinyt kuunnella kunnolla, pitää kuunnella uudestaan. Silti hyvä. 3/5.

Beginnings of a legend. His iconic, cartoonishly drawn our voice (almost on a sarcastic level, like he's drunk or trying to impersonate trump, or both) over guitar. Already with his iconic mouth piece. Very folky, before his big rock hits. Not something i go crazy about, but really interesting where he came from

makes me want to learn harmonica

I've been thinking about vibes recently and this album certainty has them. I find that it has great song writing as well as great flow treading the line between transitioning between songs while making sure that each one has an identify on its own. The instruments are also a key point of the album for me and really make every song pop just a bit more.

Some great songs. I hate the delivery. He sounds like a boy making a motorbike sound.

Classic Bobby D

Quintessential Dillon.

This was a good listen.

Good vibes, but some really dumb lyrics. I’m giving it a 3, but think I’m being generous.

Harmonica gave me a bit of a headache

An album that was well ahead of its time for 1966. It's a nice expansion of the singer-songwriter genre with varied instrumentatal dynamics introduced alongside the storytelling. I find it hard to get too excited about Bob Dylan's voice or songs - a lot of them are very formulaic and straight-forward. Fun honky-tonk keys and harmonica in some of the tracks brightens it up a lot. 'One Of Us Must Know' and 'I Want You' are fabulous, fun songs.

Listening session: january 19th, while commuting from and to intership Listened to before: no Thoughts: this is a fitting album for today because I just started reading Just Kids by Patti Smith yesterday Favourite tracks: Just Like a Woman & I Want You

I've tried to get on with Dylan, but never really succeeded. That said, this is probably one of my favourites I've listened to.

Harmonica Fave track: I Want You

Not my favorite. On some songs the harmonica was a little much otherwise I loved the instrumentals tracks. The singing is very particular, It's Dylan's style. I didn't really care for it but I appreciated it on some songs. I'm curious about some covers because I loved the music and and the lyrics. (Sorry don't come for me) Favorite song : Most likely you go your way (and i'll go mine) Least liked song : Rainy Day Women #12 & 35

Decent, but a bit dull. Not as good as the later stuff.

Although, it’s somewhat lengthy, the quality is great and the lyrical content is funny at times. Not sure if he intended it to be. Dylan has such a unique cadence and style. Enjoyed this one as a casual listen. 3.2/5.0

This is the Bob Dylan singing/songs I don't like. Did not enjoy.

“She takes just like a woman, yeah she does She makes love just like a woman, yeah she does And she aches just like a woman But she breaks just like a little girl” den chorus find ich ja mal extrem schlimm, gendernormen sind so unnötig. ich weiß, dass er im insgesamten meint, dass die frau noch ' mental unreif' ist.

I'm familiar with quite a few of these songs on this album, but this is my first time listening to the album start-to-finish. Bob Dylan is a great songwriter who should not be allowed to perform his own compositions. That was my opinion on him prior to listening to this album, and it only reinforces my opinion after listening to the album.

I know it's Dylan. I know its one of the best albums of all time. But I can't bring myself to love this right now. It sounds hokey -- again, I know he's one of the greatest songwriters of all time, and maybe its because I grew up with his weird lil crooney voice, but I got no love for Bobbie D right now. I go in cycles on him, so maybe in a few years I'll wanna listen again.

Always a good day & listening experience when it comes to Bob Dylan.

Different vibe but I liked it

it's fine

didn't think I was gonna like tbh but isn't that bad possibly only 60s shit I'm rlly a fan of didn't know he made knocking on heavens door kinda fire some songs r rlly long tho took a while to get thru

Rainy Day Women, I Want You, and Just Like a Woman are classics. Hard to follow Highway 61 revisited, which really changed his sound. A great record, but I would rank it as the 4th-6th best Dylan album. I'm partial to the pre-rock Dylan, though.

Not my cup of tea

“Everybody must get stoned” hell yeah instant 5/5

This is far and away the best Dylan album of the five I've had on the list so far. It still suffers from a few slow-moving folk song stinkers and Dylan's usual vocal swill, and the album is too long. However, the music on this album is actually good (big shock, believe me), and there's - wait for it - VARIETY on this album. It's almost like after 7 or 8 tries Dylan realized you actually have to put effort into an album for it to be good. Finally, the harmonica is actually well-done on this album instead of the usual straight forward blind honking he usually employs. 3.0/5.0: Good

above average songs for dylan but entirely too long

The lyrics are quit confusing

Fine. Dylan gets so repetitive. At least his voice wasn't destroyed by cigs at this point.

not my type of music album. Like his other songs though

Good ol bobby dylan Not bad

Was not my favorite

not my favorite, but oh... to listen to Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands for the first time again

When I was reading through the other reviews I saw how much they mentioned the use of the harmonica, I didn’t think it could have been that much…. God there’s so much harmonica in this album, it’s not a bad thing, just, idk I didn’t expect it to be thaaaat much harmonica, yk?

I’m not a big fan of Bob Dylan’s vocals, so that kind of made this album hard to listen to. It is also harmonica heavy which can be jarring. I did find some songs that I did like and will be replaying but probably won’t revisit the album as a whole.

I gave this album a go earlier this year after bouncing off of it so many times….. To me it just doesn’t compare well with Highway 61, which to me is near perfect. Maybe I just haven’t spent enough time with it…… Yeah - no - I don't think it's me. The bluesier numbers are pretty fun, as is the rather stupid "Rainy Day Women." "Just Like a Woman" is likewise dumb but tuneful. It's the seven minute "epics" that just don't hold any water for me, and this from a guy who LOVES "Desolation Row." They add to the monotony of this record, which in my very humble opinion has no business being a double album. Dylan is really leaning into his eccentric vocal delivery here, and it's extremely one-note. Sorry, man. I've tried to get into this thing and there's nothing there for me. THREE STARS

This is an album by Bob Dylan that I think shows and highlights the fact that he's just not that good of a singer. I'm not a lyrics person, but I think they would've shined and impressed me a bit more if the songs were performed by somebody else. I love all of his earlier records, and close to none after this one. Mid 3

Promised a friend I would give the record another try in the future, but this time in mono, because the sound of the harmonica on this thing is something else (and not in a good way). The songs are good. I would've loved to be a lyrics guy, because I'm sure I could have enjoyed this appraised album a lot more. Highway 61 all the way, baby.

not the kind of stuff i usually listen to, but i still enjoyed it

Exellent

Decent album subtracted by harmonica

Classic, but took a couple of songs to get into. Visions of Johanna is a must listen

#1 good background music not listened to much like it might do more

None of my favorite Dylan songs on this one, obviously a classic, 'Iwant you' is a standout.

Recognise original songs of which my fav artists have covered e.g. just like a woman Jeff buckley

absolutely love bob dylan!! favorite tracks are I Want You and Just Like a Woman

Not my kind of music but not bad. 5/10

After seeing the Bob Dylan biopic, I understand his point of view a bit more. BUT, like with every other Dylan album that comes up on this project, I will say this: Bob Dylan is absolutely the voice of a generation... just not MY generation. So, while I understand his standpoint a bit more, this music just doesn't speak to me.

Harmonica.

Repeat

There's obviously something there, but this man can't sing. 3.

That’s a lot of harmonica. Iconic for its time I guess. It’s official though. I’m not a Bob Dylan guy.

Liked it ok. Rainy Day Women was one of my faves as a kid, and it's still good. The rest was OK. Some great lyrics in there. Just not something I would enjoy on a regular basis.

Groundbreaking but kinda tedious.

I liked this

More like Blond on 'Blonde on Blonde.' Yes, dear reader, I am blond. A dirty blond but nonetheless--I just read that ladies are blonde and males are blond too. Bobby Dylan isn't my normal cuppa. I appreciate his contributions but don't revisit him often. However, this is a strong album with some classics. Top tracks: "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35," "I Want You," "Just Like a Woman"

I think to truly love Bob Dylan you may have to be a lyrics-first type person. I am not

it's great, but i'm not that much into folk

Individually, each of these songs is fine, but it turns out I simply cannot cope with more than two tracks of Dylan's voice in a row before I start to wish he'd choke on his harmonica.

I like Bob dylan, but this album isn't my favorite.

Things started off as I expected from a Bob Dylan album (way too much harmonica and Bob deciding to sing the songs himself) but things improved by the mid section and it turned into a not so bad album overall.

Not a big dylan fan.

Some classic Dylan tracks here but like a lot of Dylan albums it really drags with overlong tracks and a lot of repetitive melodies. Plus the "Dylan voice" is extremely grating in a lot of spots. Cut out a half an hour of filler and this would be like a 4.5 for me. As is, it barely makes it to a 3 for me.

bob dylan, harmonica, bastante cheerful, celebrativo,

It’s quite beneficial for the list to have many albums from certain artists. Yeah, people complain a lot about it, but I think it would be worse if every artist was limited to one or two albums. Having many albums from one artist gets you lots of repeated exposure, cause sometimes it takes longer for something to grow on you. It can force you to discover things you otherwise wouldn’t have

Visions of Johanna carries this album

Not sure how he got as popular as he did but its alright. I suppose if i was alive in the 60s i would have digged this too.

Not my favorite Dylan album

Very chill and soothing

Good songs, kind of long

Bob Dylan is very listenable but this album is crazy long.

A lot of it blended together, the writing is great but don’t always love the sound. Needs another listen but added a few songs

not for me

Way too long, some excruciatingly annoying choruses, also some good songs

Not his best

Amazingly I got 2 Bob Dylan albums in a row. This one, and the one from 1997 "Time Out of Mind." Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I actually thing I enjoyed the later one better. It was more eclectic in a way. I know Blonde on Blonde was groundbreaking and iconic but I'm not much of a fan of when early rock skews towards the blues and the harmonica got to be a bit grating after a while.

Mid 3? Fine but nothing grabs me

are his adenoids insured?

Difficult start, but some great songs in there. But I do think the songs sound too much alike, espacially with the harmonica being way too present. In small doses Dylan is a genius but here it feels a bit repetitive

Unpopular opinion I don’t love this album it sometimes feels like self parody but that’s okay Bob it’s still a jam

If I had a nickel for every time I had to listen to a Bob Dylan album this week I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice

Really classic songs, love the album but slow start and I could swap music with some of his other contemporary albums and not lose much in terms of theme or classic status

Joan Baez once said, after hearing Dylan sing, “I couldn’t believe something so powerful could come out of that toad”. Not that my opinion counts for much in the light of all the praise that Dylan gets, but I feel the same way. There are some amazing tracks here (Rainy Day Woman, Visions of Johanna, Stuck Inside A Mobile, You Go Your Way) but there’s a bitterness, self-centredness, and dated misogyny to his lyrics that make it hard for me to listen to.

I can understand the importance of Dylan, and his legacy in music. I can appreciate the lyrical ability and the poetry he used. But I just can’t take his voice for an entire album.

once you get over Dylan's awful singing voice, this is actually a decent album

5 Bob's out of 10 lizard wizards

Aaaaargh, I am so compromised by Dylan. Genius, or rambling poet who got lucky being in the right place right time I cannot decide... So I am sitting on the fence 😐

Didn't captivate me as much as Dylan's others!

Helt ok.

Not bad. Some good songs, but I just find all of his elongated words and vowels annoying 😂

*I get the musical quality of this, but I'm not an overly big Dylan fan...don't love the voice and the lyrics don't do enough to get me super excited to listen to his stuff.

I know myself. I would have been one of the dorks at the Newport Folk Festival booing this man for going electric.

So so, as usual spoilt by Bob's singing style

Bob Dylan doesn’t do much for me as a singer or lyricist but the instrumentals here really carried the experience.

Society has outgrown a need for Bob Dylan. Some stand out tracks like Visions of Johanna and Stuck Inside a Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again, but otherwise not my cup of tea.

Despite the 1 hr + run time, Blonde On Blonde is actually a good (Dylan) album. Not as whiny as his usual and a bit more rock than folk. Visions of Johanna is the top track followed by Just Like a Woman. (3.2*s) Incidentally, everybody DID get stoned. Rainy Day Woman was a a huge radio hit and was still getting play through the end of the seventies…

Bobby D pulls together a good one with Blonde on Blonde. Good balance of folk-rock-blues that doesn't wear you down. Classic opener and the rest good, clever writing. Picked up a solid back up band as well. I like to think this trilogy is where Dylan hits his peak in developing his own style. Probably will get the other two releases on the list but if not, I will give them a listen. Many interpretations of the album title...maybe Bob was just into light haired lesbians. 3.08 stars for not recording just another leopard-skin pill-box hat.

That's definitely Dylan, and it's surprisingly enjoyable. I've waxed poetic about my contempt for Bob Dylan on prior entries but I really don't have any negativity for Blonde on Blonde. It's a rather effective album pretty much from start to finish. I expected I would have to suffer through this as a double album but Mr. Zimmerman was able to hook me and keep me engaged for 70 minutes, a feat that I didn't expect was possible until this listen. While I quickly moved on from prior Bob Dylan entries, there are a couple of tracks from Blonde on Blonde that I will definitely revisit in the future. While Dylan mostly misses the mark for me, I can see why this album is listed among the greats. It pulls all the right strings whether you a Dylan die-hard or not. It's a pretty perfect slice of the 60's folk movement that Dylan was such a key component of. While I don't think he'll make a believe out of me in the long run, I have to give props to this one. 3.23 stars

The older I get the better Dylan sounds. It’s still an effort to listen to an entire album but no longer like fingernails on chalkboard. 3 stars.

Mixture of classics (good), classics (meh) and also rans.

Pretty nice with old rock and roll

It’s a nice Bob Dylan album. My biggest issue is that it’s a Bob Dylan album. If you’ve heard 3 songs by him you’ve heard his whole range as a musician. His sounds gets stale fast.

I have a confession - I’m not the biggest Dylan fan. I appreciate the poetry behind it all but something about its delivery just doesn’t grab me. With that in mind, this was one of his better ones and although the tracklist ran a bit long for me, it did sustain interest. ‘Just like a woman’ in particular is a good song but I’m probably swayed by my love of the Jeff Buckley’s cover of it.

Blonde On Blonde was my first proper Bob Dylan experience and I went into this album with both excitement & anxiety. Much like going into my first grunge album several weeks back, I knew the chances of this not being my cup of tea were greater than 0% and I didn’t want to be the guy who didn’t “get” one of the most legendary American artists alive. We’re talking about a guy who is old enough to have performed at the March on Washington and is still kicking (with him releasing a new studio album as recently as 2023). Fortunately, understanding Bob Dylan’s appeal did not take long while listening to Blonde On Blonde. Yes, his vocal choices (which I’m almost hesitant to call “singing,” as I think even skilled musicians would have some difficulty transcribing most of his inflections into actual notes) are certainly unusual, but I feel like that’s a huge part of the album’s charm. The instrumentation is also solid and serves as a nice contrast against Bob Dylan’s less tonal vocals. The first few songs in particular got their hooks in me and I never found the tracks to get grating like I thought they might be. Simultaneously, the length of BOB (wait a second…) and its reliance on various rock/blues compositional tropes took the experience from four stars to three stars by the time I got to the end. While I can’t see myself revisiting Blonde On Blonde in full anytime soon, it’s an album I certainly respect and I’m looking forward to digging further into Bob Dylan’s discography as I continue making my way through the 1001 Albums list. Highlights: Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, Pledging My Time, One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later), I Want You, Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again

I've always liked Bob Dylan, but I haven't listened to many of his albums front to back. Sometimes listening to his songs leaves me feeling like he just keeps going for the easy rhyme as much as he can get it in, but then I'll look at the overall message and feel like there's something deep there after all. Then he has songs that are just full blown incredible. Songs where words are merely his plaything and he's showing us how much fun he can have in three minutes.

Distinctive. Songs we all know. Voice and delivery the same throughout. Poetic lyrics.

Much like Highway 61, I was enjoying this album ... until I finished the first LP. A Bob Dylan double album is just too much. How many verses did Dylan scat in that final 11 minute song. I lost count. My rating is for the first half!

Sounds like Bob Dylan, and this is a Bob Dylan album

Catchy as hell! Loving that guitar and Bob Dylan's unique voice. The first half was great, it started to lose me in the back 9. The album was a bit long. Solid harmonica work. FS Visions of Johanna.

Sometimes I feel like I see Bob Dylan’s greatness, sometimes I don’t at all. This felt somewhere in the middle. Going in, I didn’t know anything from this album, which was a surprise. No doubt, he was a pioneer and innovator. However, I can’t help but feel that things have come a long way since his time. Musically, this just doesn’t keep me hooked. That being said, there were some high points. I really like Stuck Inside of Mobile. But I think that’s just it with Bob Dylan: I take away some high points from each album I listen to, but almost never catch myself going back to the full release.

Another Bob Dylan album that I feel like I should really enjoy but just don’t much. It’s fine. I like folky guitar led music, but it doesn’t stand out to me. I found his vocals and harmonica a little grating. Sure, he’s a good songwriter, and perhaps if I didn’t listen to this while working I’d be digging deeper into the lyricism and wordplay. But musically, it falls a bit flat. Not bad as such, but not great.

I reckon the cognoscenti routinely place this record among Dylan's top two or three albums. And I reckon they're mistaken. Still good, mind.

It was alright

Nice album, cheerful, lots of harmonica parts which I liked although there are no songs inside my top favorite Dylan tunes. Either way I would listen to it again.

I go into this as a fringe Bob fan, knowing the famous album name and being aware of a few of the songs, but having never listened to it in one sitting. Right outta the gates with "everyone must get stoned", a song I adored in Jr High School (found it in my dad's record collection). "Rainy Day Women" is a classic and the most recognizable song on the album to me. There's A LOT of harmonica on this album especially at the start,("Pledging My Time"), I'd say it's to the point of overkill. His unique way of singing is on full display on this one as well, some words are just drawn out in a subtly annoying way ("I Want You", "Sad-Eyed Lady..."). I do enjoy "Stuck Inside Mobile..." which I got familiar with from his Greatest Hits Vol 1 (but 7 mins is incredibly repetitive!). "Just Like A Woman" is a popular track, and it's pretty likeable. This album hasn't aged well in my opinion, its dated as are the topics and phrasing, it would crash and burn if released today. Still popular with the most listened to track ("I Want You") at 63M listens and the least popular at a still impressive 3.3M. I had a hard time fully enjoying it, maybe I prefer Bob in smaller doses. Solid 3 stars.

Decent

Very typically Dylan

Good one.

gaita kinda annoying but guitar rocks

Cool but not my thing.

Actually really good. I struggle with Bobby, but this album is great. Mid 3s.

It was ok

Yes, Dylan is obviously super influential, a lyrical genius and so on. And this wasn’t unpleasant in any way. It might even have been a bit less grating than the other Dylan albums I’ve had. But there’s an awful lot of it. As background music it was OK. Lots of it sort of merged together and I didn’t know much of it. But it’s no better than OK for me.

no i don't think i get it

Enjoyable

I was not particularly happy to see a Bob Dylan double album as my work for the day, but then I was surprisingly into it. But then an 11 minute song was at the end and I was not into it. I'm glad I'm old enough to both not pretend to be into Bob Dylan but also to kind of get it at times. Would have been 4 stars but for the 11 minute frolic.

Sigh. I’m being bludgeoned into submission

Very nice. Bob sounds like he’s doing an impression of Bob Dylan here though. And I’ve always Bob Dylan impressions funny.

Ok - 3

82/1001 Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ❓ This is my least favourite of Dylan's most well known albums. Asides from Visions of Johanna and I Want You, there's not a lot here that I love. It's all a bit over long as well.

You get a couple of hits and a lot of th "Dylan". I don't know that I'm coming back to this, but I'm glad I listened

First time listening to a full Bob Dylan album.. that harmonica.. but I still like his songwriting and I thought this was a decent album as a whole

Being a double album made it a harder listen.

Too long.

I like a lot of these songs. I like Bob Dylan in general. But an entire album, a double album of that, of this very similar-sounding incomprehensible droning, plus yet another eleven-minute....yeah. OK, Bob.

The enigma that is Bob Dylan for me. I absolutely love some of his work and other stuff is an absolute chore. This album fell into the chore category. After the first track it became an hour of what seemed like the same song. The harmonica was out of control at points.

I’ve always felt alone in my dislike of Dylan, but the reviews give me some hope! I’m not holding my breath on this one, but let’s see how we go… Great opener that I hadn’t heard for a long time. A welcome return. I prefer this more electric album to the earlier, slow, acoustic one I had on this list but my GOD I despise this man’s forced rhymes and over-earnestedness. Enjoyed more upbeat, electric feel. ‘I want you’ stands out but just all feels so similar and forced. Gets trying quite quickly and goes on and on and on. More variety than usual, at least, but I get it and him (unfortunately). Glad for it to finish after a fittingly drawn out last song. (3.5)

Goofy-sounding vocals, great instrumentation. Favourite Track(s): Visions of Johanna, Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat Least Favourite Track(s): Fourth Time Around

It wasn't bad, but I was super distracted while trying to listen to it.

Some great songs, but the album as a whole is kind of repettive and the harmonica tends to be skreechy. The Band is on point, but I still can't give this high marks. 3/5

I like Bob Dylan... respect him. But it's too Bob Dylan.

I really could do without more Bob Dylan. I respect that he was important but his vocal work is so ass.

First songs a little too whiny for my taste. Got better as it progressed.

Bob, you smashed 2 albums together.

The excessive use of stretched-out syllables and the harmonica always makes Bob Dylan a bit tough for me, especially at the beginning. But wow, did this album grow on me after the first 4 or 5 songs! After listening, I can definitely say I’m a bigger Dylan fan than I was before.

I like that this music transports me to the 60s. I’m a big fan of the harmonica and the brass instruments too. His voice isn’t the best? But it also feels more outdoorsy and like “music for the people”

Solid the whole way through, but not many songs that stick out

Harmonica

he looks exactly like the songs he would make idk if that makes sense songs are the kind youd wanna listen to while sitting outside on ur porch sipping beer and gazing at the sky

mid album, liked only one song. He seemed to be talking not singing

I didn’t fully connect with this one. I liked the songs, it’s more Bob… not his voice, which I’m fine with. It’s his deeply affected singing style, which is in full force on this album. It wore on me on after a while. And his lyrics - he’s obviously famous for them, and for good reason, but he just comes off like such a jerk sometimes (Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat, Just Like a Woman). I did however like Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 (funny), One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later), and I Want You. Maybe I just need to come back to this one.

Bob is pretty alright.

His voice grates on me across a full album. Also some of the tunes way too whimsy. Having said that, have to recognise him as a pioneer of the style and there are a couple of amazing tracks on this one

Mein drittes Dylanalbum, wenn ich richtig mitzähle. Ja.

Dylan at some of his Dylan-est and it’s alright. There’s strong writing here and the music itself is like, fine. But I’ve heard truly great Dylan records and this one just doesn’t move me like those do. It’s pretty dense and would reward close listens, but it’s quite long and I’d rather listen to ‘Time Out of Mind’ again honestly.

It was ok.

i’m just not big on dylan

Blonde on Blonde is one of two Bob Dylan albums I’d listened to before starting this project, the other being Highway 61 Revisited. I have a CD of Blonde on Blonde, and I think I bought it because a friend of mine told me that I should listen to it since I liked Highway 61 Revisited. I’m pretty sure I only listened to it once, mostly because I absolutely hated “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35.” I know I’ve heard some of these songs on their own since then, but I’ve never been inclined to listen to the whole album again. My most recent Bob Dylan album to review was The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, which I absolutely loved, but I don’t have as high of hopes for this re-listen of Blonde on Blonde. At least I’ll get “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35” out of the way first. Re-listening to this today didn’t sway me to becoming a Blonde on Blonde fan, but this album was a lot better than I remembered. First things first, though, “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35.” Man, I still hate that song. It sounds like Bert from Mary Poppins on an acid trip, or like the worst thing you could possibly hear while walking through Jackson Square in the French Quarter. It’s so damn goofy sounding, and its cacophonous sound sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the album. I hate that shouting and whooping in the background too. It’s just the worst. Thankfully though, the rest of the album ranges from ‘fine’ to ‘really good,’ although the ‘really good’ parts are scarcer in my opinion. Side 3 was my favorite side of the album. I enjoyed the succinctness of the songs on that side, and it felt like I got more bang for my buck in a way, with five songs with differing lyrical themes and sounds. “Absolutely Sweet Marie” was my favorite song from that side, with excellent rhythms, and some great guitar and organ arrangements as well. However, my favorite song on the whole album was “I Want You.” The harmonica, guitar, bass, organ, and piano all sounded great together, creating the most beautiful song on the album. The longing in the lyrics and vocals is fantastic, and I love the simplicity of it. “Visions of Johanna” and “One Of Us Most Know” had the best songwriting on the album in my opinion. They both sound fine musically, but I really liked how the gist of both songs were pretty clear and simple, but the majority of the lyrics were really poetic and symbolic. The latter of the two had some really great organ playing as well. “4th Time Around” was also really good. I enjoyed the guitar arrangement quite a bit, and I thought it suited the pacing of Dylan’s vocals really well. All in all, Blonde on Blonde is a fine album, and while I can’t see myself actively listening to it again, it’s something that I wouldn’t mind having on around the house on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

I just wish I could suppress his vocal

I sincerely wish I loved this and maybe I will at some point, but I listen to a song like Visions of Johanna which is supposedly one of Bob Dylan's finest songs and I just feel nothing. Cerebral music, and also cerebral art in general, doesn't really do anything for me because I'm redacted or something Fav song: One of Must Know

Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again,

Stuck inside a mobile

I’ve never been a big fan of Dylan, an artist I find overrated. Blonde On Blonde, however, is one of the albums I can appreciate, probably because it’s on the blues side of his work. Dylan really doesn’t have a good blues voice, to be honest – it’s more like a constant droning – but the orchestration and songwriting somehow make it work. It’s kind of a mixed bag. The album starts on the wrong foot, with a shrill and overbearing harmonica that quickly becomes annoying. The piano moments were far more pleasant – I enjoyed One Of Us Must Know, even if Dylan still managed to slip in a few harmonica screeches here and there. Leopard Skin was right up my alley, and a few of the last tracks were pleasantly laid-back and (mostly) harmonica-free. Overall, it’s a reasonnably fun album to listen. But as often with Dylan, it ultimately sounds a bit tame and lifeless – like blues made for very polite people, or the soundtrack of an early Woody Allen movie.

A good album with some recognizable songs, but not something I feel like I would come back to again. Maybe a couple of songs I’d like to repeat because I hadn’t heard them before.

More Bob Dylan, this time I finally tapped out momentarily to his Harmonica, that shit mixed with a bad headache is a recipe for disaster. I think I’ve listened to enough of Dylan at this point to say he just isn’t for me, I’m not going to argue about the quality of his music or writing, just that it isn’t really what I care to throw on my playlists. Probably my 3rd favourite on this list of his, falling behind Highway 63 and Blood on the Tracks

Intimidated by Mr. Zimmerman mewing on the album cover. Some of the vocals on this are fucking heinous but overall reasonable album.

Woah, im usually a massive Dylan enjoyer but this left a lot to be desired. The closing track is a masterpiece but my other favourites on this album, Leopard Skin, and Just like a woman, I much prefer other versions. Still a good album overall but : / 7/10

I was inspired to write a full review and post it after listening to just the first side. My initial review compared this album to my grandmother’s experience of famine during WW2. The second side wasn’t much better but the third and fourth sides are genuinely very, very good. I thought that I would come back and listen to the first two sides with a new appreciation. No, it still sucks. I was so put off this album by the opening track, a cacophony of rambling and harmonica. This is the mission statement for a lot of the songs on the first two sides. The third and fourth sides are just nice, I would give this a four or a five if it were just these but alas I have to lump it in with the fucking chore that was the first two sides. Is it a shit test? Am I the recipient of a poorly-told (or slurred, if you’re singing like Dylan) joke from 59 years ago? Highlights: I Want You, Just Like a Woman, Fourth Time Around, Obviously Five Believers, Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands

Bob Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde is undeniably groundbreaking, but it's not flawless—and that’s part of its charm. As the final piece in his “electric trilogy,” it brims with lyrical ambition and sonic experimentation. But in its sprawling format (nearly 72 minutes across two LPs), not every track hits with the same resonance.

En oo hirveästi bob dylanii kuunnellu, mut oli kyllä nautinnollinen kokemus!

Classic album, classic Dylan. A bit too long for my tastes but hey, what can ya do?

The thing is, I don't hate Bob Dylan, but seriously he isn't this messiah that deserves all of this praise and 6 albums on the list. The whole album sounded the same, which isn't bad, but every one of his songs sounds so similar. You give this album to someone who isn't a music connoisseur, and they'd think it's boring and tasteless. Alas, it is just straight down the road, so it's three stars. Take one of these Dylan albums and give it to Paul Kelly or someone Australian.

I think it's length plays against it, and it doesn't do it for me like some of my favourite works of him, still a lyrical jewel.

One of his best.

Dad- 8 Mom- 7 Mike- NA Lori- 5.5 Michael- 6 Miles- NA Cole- NA Avg-6.63

Ok. Harmonica nice.

This is my second Dylan album in a fairly short amount of time. I don't think this one is as good as Bringing It All Home. It's also quite long. Dylan's signature singing style seems so much more exaggerated on this album. Musically, it's standard Dylan, if a bit more rock and roll than what you usually think of. I actually found the harmonica a little much on some tracks, and I usually love a harmonica. I just wasn't in the mood for this album at the time, but it hit just fine, landing squarely in the average range for me. 3/5

Pretty good rithym

He's a legendary songwriter but I just can't help thinking someone should've been at the helm telling him 'Rainy Day Women' is an in-joke that's not really funny. Leave it on the cutting room floor. Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands is somehow eight minutes too long and doesn't go anywhere. You've got some excellent, highly listenable numbers in Just Like A Woman, Fourth Time Around and One Of Us Must Know, but this could've definitely been a single, and it would've been fantastic.

This one was good. I liked it. 3 Stars.

Not my favorite Dylan, but it shows a period of transition for him. Everyone Must Get Stoned is funny and shows he doesn't want to be taken as seriously as people have grown to treat his music. this comes directly after Hwy 61 and the shock of his rock conversion is in full swing here. 3/5

I just really don't like his voice.

I get annoyed by his voice and him breathing through his stupid loud harmonica. Other than that it’s pretty good

Too long but solid album with some nice folky tunes

every song on here is like 3-5 minutes but it feels like 15. sick death grips reference though

As usual, I find Dylan quite good but not something I personally get really into

Musically, not my style. Lyrics are engaging, of course, but it's a lot to take in in one sitting.

folk is kinda chopped imo but others will like if they're into the genre

Can’t say anything about Dylan that I haven’t already said in a previous review. Still feel the same way about him and his music. This album in particular.

With the band it has a "full" rock and roll sound. That fullness was maybe too consistent for me. On first listen I don't really connect with the lyrics for many of the songs on this album, however it feels like there will be more to get out of some with multiple listens.

He’s a great song writer and I enjoy his songs, but get tired in large doses. I enjoy a cd of Dylan covers more than original recordings.

Não é o melhor trabalho do Bob Dylan.

Bob is an originator and has a unique voice, albeit thin, nasal and grating. I honestly have never enjoyed his music and songs, and re-listening to this album reinforced my opinion.

Visions of Johanna is pretty nice, otherwise not the best dylan

I think is like a little good,I like the intruments

low 3, if i never hear bob dylan again it’ll be too soon, please no more bob dylan, good album though, good songs

Not my favourite Dylan but a strong album nevertheless

For the most part fine but I don't really enjoy this version of Bob Dylan, with 4-5 verse songs and lots of instrumentation. The first song has to win an award for Drunkest Sounding Band or something. Not like the people in the band were drunk, but the essence of that band in an abstract way was just really very drunk.

this had the most generous possible listen on my end: sunshine, windows down, blasting through the speakers on a beautiful almost-summer day. really enjoyed a handful of songs

Not a bob Dylan fan as of June 2025 Not my kind of style but he’s a great artist

Helt okej, hört bättre album av Dylan. Bästa låtar: * Visions of Johanna * One of us must know * I want you

I think I could like it more at some point, but not feeling it rn Still pretty good

Stone me, but this way too long. Lyrically genius but music for Grandpa.

the aggressive harmonica start did not set us off on a good footing .......... his music is good, voice ....... not so much like, this is fine. my ears wouldnt bleed if someone turned on this album but i also wouldnt reach for it myself

Intro was immediately jarring. Bob loves a harmonica. I like it sometimes. Classic southern soul/rock sound.

Hate Dylans voice, but the album grew on me

Solid album, not amazing but not bad either

Very bluesy. So much harmonica. I can dig it, but it's pretty slow and Dylan's voice isn't all that lovely.

My spiciest music take is that Bob Dylan is overrated. That’s not to deny his significance, though i think his role as Supreme Influencer is exaggerated, as if The Beatles, Springsteen, and U2 would be chimps scratching themselves with their instruments if not for Dylan’s obsidian obelisk. There was probably a time in my life that I would have gotten really into Dylan too, likely as an angsty twentysomething, but instead we ended up as missed connections and I listened to something stupid like Phish. The heart wants what it wants, Mr. Zimmerman. Anyway, this is fine. I still struggle with finding it appreciable, nevermind GOAT, especially since Led Zeppelin IV came out like five years later. Like Thai food, single malt scotch, and Las Vegas — I get it — but it’s just not for me.

Niet zijn beste werk

Well, at least the ratio of Harmonica in the songs was lower than Highway 61 revisited and the backing band had more variety on the song arrangements. An improvement, but not by much.

My first repeat artist. Hughway 61 revisited was the first which I liked infinitely better. This one was way more bluesy, I didn’t hate it but was not as good as his other albums.

I'm sure Dylan is an amazing lyricist and I got wee snippets of that but it is hard to see it through all the harmonica

It may just be the voice, but many of these songs feel like the same song, repeated again and again.

Like a Rollin stone", also #lovejoanbaez

This is my first time listening to new genres and unfamiliar songs. Starting from this album, notably Bob Dylan surely is a storyteller on this one but one thing that bothers me is that I'm not used to the type of melody where it is plainly just said and having no tone, but the instrumental were well done, maybe just the harmonica was a bit to sharp to the ears, but it was a first good hear. Rating this album a 6.6/10

I own a copy of this, but I don't think I've ever listened to it from start to finish. It's quite a tomb of work, it's quite a riot in places. There's a sense of danger just around each corner or track, but then in true Bob style, he goes a little soppy on you. It could do with some auto-focus on the album cover.

I just... man. Bob Dylan is tough for me to properly rate. Heck of a songwriter. Absolutely atrocious vocalist. Makes for a really tough listen.

Really wanted to enjoy this but I’m just not a fan of Bobs singing voice, highlights for me was ‘Obviously Five Believers’

Classic album. Familiar with all the songs. Brilliant writing and production but you get tired of hearing Bob’s voice after a while and this album is 14 songs!

Bob Dylan is a talented musician. The album is good, but I feel the songs are similar. There is a lot of harmonica, too. I would have probably liked this more if I had been around when it came out.

Fine, never been a big fan of Dylan, but didn't hate the album.

Not my favorite Bob album but not bad 3.3/5 Favorites: Rainy Day Women, Stuck Inside of Mobile, Just Like a Woman

Yet another Bob Dylan album. There are 7 LPs of his on this list. It's nice to listen to for a few songs. Unfortunately, it gets boring after 50 minutes. At least Dylan's songwriting is great. 3 stars for "Blonde on Blonde".

getting more and more into bob dylan

not a big bob dylan girl

This is like the 8th Bob Dylan album I've gotten. His voice has grown on me but man I can't stand that harmonica

Very good music. Very Dylan voice. I appreciate its place im history

There’s some really great stuff on here. Dylan is obviously a terrific songwriter. However, the bluesy stuff just isn’t my favorite. It’s a little too Rolling Stones and I do not like The Rolling Stones.

This is a nice album, but definitely outdated nowadays, as it is not really that exciting, the melody is alright, but I find it a bit meh in 2025. I would say that it definitely hit a lot harder back when it came out.

bob sounds a lot like donald trump on i want you and it ruined the rest of the album for me

It's a good album. I can't rate it higher because the parts of it that were annoying really make it hard to take seriously. There's a bit too much harmonica and poetics, and I have a hard time really feeling the more blues-influenced tracks. The other songs that don't hit for me are when I just can't take his voice/inflections. The songs that are good are really good though. Like when it works, it works.

Not on the level of freewheelin but still okay

I like Bob, but thats a lot of Harmonica.

Heavy on the harmonica at the start

Not long after being pleasantly surprised by Bringing It All Back Home (5 stars!), I'm somewhat underwhelmed by this one. There's some great stuff here, to be sure. But like many double albums it's just way too long. There is plenty of lesser material here that could have been excised. Dylan himself is often at his least tuneful, and the harmonica frequently grating. Visions of Johanna though? Masterpiece.

Never been a huge Dylan head but it was nice to listen to, probably going to stick to the hits going forward

Look, I like Bob but this is his most overrated album. 6/10

I can only take so much of his limited singing range. This exceeded my patience by a good half hour. Nobody needs a Bob Dylan double album. On the bright side, I am a sucker for the harmonica.

Too much with the harmonica for me. The music is good, but it has a sound that I don’t like for more than 2 songs. 3/2

Bob. not my favourite.

s.s., 1966 -> 3

Jun fine.

I think this was great, embarrassingly this was mostly background music. Second listen needed. Probably a 4 but I give 3 because I didn’t hear anything.
