Prince

I went into this album thinking that i wouldn't like it but wow... I was surprised to say the least. It really is one of the greatest pop albums of the 80s. With every track I can hear the influence it made on even today's music. Can't give anything less than a 5.
CHVRCHES
4/5
Decent album with delucious synth sounds but reminds me a lot of Naked and Famous and I think they do it better. Great opening track tho.

Coldplay
3/5
I mean I was never big on coldplay but this is an okay album.

The War On Drugs
3/5
kind of a one dimensional album. But it was fine

A fun 70s rock one. The first song is insane but I was a little let down after that

Various Artists
4/5

Honestly I like Grunge, so it was a fun time. People are too harsh on this one. Nothing extraordinary, but a good fun album.

Elvis Costello
3/5
eh.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Dude has an interesting voice, but idk just a little weird
David Bowie
3/5
This one is good and probably one of his best for me but its only because of the instrumental. I didnt like the title track I dont know what people are praising that one for. Fame was cool af tho. John Lennon doing stuff. Altogether I wish this wasnt on the list and instead we got an actual funk record which sounds just as cool, but no. We need to get the popular white man on here.
Public Enemy
4/5
good one
Megadeth
3/5
Those damn guitar solos and kick doublers man…. It would be so good thoo
Dusty Springfield
2/5
A basic ass cover album? Don't think I've heard a bad version of You Don't own me before. Did the guy who wrote the book have a crush on the woman or what?
The Velvet Underground
4/5
I said I couldn't hit it sideways
Now just like
Now just like
I said oh, oh, just like
Am-ph-ph-ph-ph-phetamine
so good man.
LL Cool J
4/5
Really cool 90s rap. A little too long, but still solid
Method Man
3/5
Not really my style
Bill Evans Trio
4/5
some good jazz for a nice day
Neu!
3/5
This was an interesting one. Maybe with a few more listens it could be a 4. Good album for my train ride.
The Cardigans
4/5
That was very different to what i was expecting wow. A deserved 4 I can see myself revisiting this one
5/5
I mean I dont wanna give every Beatles album a 5 star but this one gets it
Pink Floyd
3/5
I’m gonna have to give this one a 3 I dont think I’ll be listening to this one again. I think most of their albums are better. I HATE rock operas thats mostly why. It sounds amazing and there are many good sections, whole songs, but I just cant put it up to 4 stars. It’s overrated and way too long
Sarah Vaughan
3/5
This one is perfect to hear at a nice dinner, but it doesn't even compare to the jazz albums I've heard so far on this list.
Waylon Jennings
3/5
not my thing, but some good songs, probably one of the best country albums I've heard so far
Ramones
4/5
Such a good one. I wish it sounded a little better but still great music. Maybe a liittle repetitive, but still good fun
Roxy Music
3/5
The first song was sooo good but then it got kinda glam rocky which was disappointing
Hookworms
2/5
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Such a good one wow. So thats ehy I hear this womans name all the time
Holger Czukay
3/5
Was a fun time
Aphex Twin
3/5
I love the guy. Very interesting album he has better songs but this is one of his best “albums”
Black Sabbath
5/5
This was soooo good whaat
Coldplay
3/5
Kind of a bad Radiohead album but some good tracks
Astor Piazzolla
3/5
Not gonna be my favourite but the man is talented wow
Keith Jarrett
4/5
Beautiful piano mastery
Iggy Pop
3/5
It just didnt excite me rn idk why. It was kinda boring
Throbbing Gristle
2/5
Justice
4/5
This was soooo great. The Daft Punk influence is undeniable to the point, where these guys were listening to Discovery every morning on their way to the studio, but they still created something unique that was also influential to the sound of the 2010s. The Party really is ass, that's why it's not a 10/10. I'd rate it 4.5/5
Korn
2/5
This just wasnt that good sadly.
Black Sabbath
5/5
Goodamn
GZA
3/5
Heard it a few times now and is a solid one with a ton of clever rhymes. No outstanding tracks so I dont think I'll revisit, so I have to give it a 3.5
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
2/5
So all over the place damn.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Still not the biggest fan of them and I think their less pop-sounding stuff is better but this has a lot of variety and a lot to like on it. Sister Morphine was my favorite.
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Idk kinda feeling nothing about this. But it wasnt bad at all
SAULT
3/5
Interesting and sounded good but I dont think I'm gonna revisit. Probably many more albums more deserving of the spot even from the 2020s
Michael Jackson
4/5
So fun
Kate Bush
3/5
Joan Baez
4/5
Such a pretty album. Just what I needed for a nice walk at night.
Hole
4/5
The other album might be better but tons of bangers on this one and the mixing is better too
Taylor Swift
3/5
Its generic pop stuff. Some songs sounded like Carly Rae jepsen whos better. Almost every song sounded the same. Cant imagine anyone out of high school listening to this one.
3/5
Cant say i didnt have a fun time but still just 60s boring country music nothing too exciting
Bob Dylan
3/5
Not his best for sure.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
3/5
Wasnt very exciting but a good time
The Who
2/5
Not so good. I hope this is not their best
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
3/5
The Message Instrumental is the highlight. Not really my favorite sound, but a funky 80s album. Can't say I didn't enjoy it once
The Temptations
4/5
I almost gave this one a five because of the second track daaaamn is it groovy
A Tribe Called Quest
5/5
This one is one of the best 90s rap records. I wanna get it on vinyl
Pet Shop Boys
3/5
My dad would love it im sure and I wouldnt mind hearing this at an 80s party, but nothing really exceptional
Os Mutantes
3/5
Definitely interesting but I don't love it as much as I want to
Devendra Banhart
3/5
this is very interesting, but not big on folk
Portishead
5/5
Wow… This is basically everything I love together in one masterpiece of an album. Favorite song Biscuit and the end of Glory Box
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
Yeah i dont know still not my favorites. Loved the first track tho
The Smiths
4/5
Might be the best smiths album. I didnt like the ending of the album. Started off very strong
Earth, Wind & Fire
3/5
Fun time. Sad it got a little slower :(
3/5
Way too clean for me but a fun one. Rapping is cringe of course but come on... way too many 1 star reviews. At least this one isn't the same old 70s dad rock or brit-pop record that makes up half of this list. This one is fun.
Linkin Park
3/5
Actually not as bad as I thought. I disliked Limp Bizkit much much more
The Byrds
3/5
Pearl Jam
3/5
I really dont think this one deserves to be called Grunge, and nowhere near Nevermind. Not too bad dad rock record, but not that interesting for me.
Fleetwood Mac
5/5
Yeah this is inifintely better than the debut. Loved it
Echo And The Bunnymen
2/5
If the Cure and New Order weren’t interesting at all theyd make this
Queen
3/5
Theres not enough Queen hate on this platform. I just really dont like Rock Operas but this is probably one of the best ones out there so okaay a 3
Buena Vista Social Club
5/5
Gonna give it a 5 just to contrast the asses for giving it a 1 star. This was sooo amazing in the rain on a wednesday morning. Suddenly the weather wasnt so bad
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
It was pretty nice, but a little all over the place. I like his voice i dont know what people are on tbh
Brian Eno
3/5
I mean absolutely pretty sounds but not gonna actively listen to it. Maybe 20-30 years later. Love it tho
Big Brother & The Holding Company
4/5
This was sooo damn good woow
Joanna Newsom
4/5
I was like yeah its pretty interesting and by the end I was inside a fairytale of sounds
Stereo MC's
3/5
Was a little one dimensional but much better than I expected
Joni Mitchell
3/5
UB40
2/5
I like reggae but this was not that fun
Wilco
3/5
Pretty interesting album a little too pop sounding for me but definitely not BORING come on
Common
4/5
This was a VIBEY chicago rap record. Had fun
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Love me some Led Zeppelin and some of these very really great. It was way too long for me though. Got a little bit stale after a while but if I listened to the two sides on different days I wouldn’t be disappointed. Good one.
Milton Nascimento
4/5
This was suuuch a breath of fresh air. This thing is better than most overrated albums on this list. Seriously why dont we hear more stuff like this instead of the 9th Bowie or Dylan albums? Why do I have to listen to whole discographies instead of some actual hidden gems
Neil Young
3/5
70s rock love the shit out of this probably. Not really interesting for me. I don't like his voice that much. And I reeally dont like the fact that the vocals are so bad on this one. The bro always moves closer and farther from the mic.
Sam Cooke
3/5
Good fun
Erykah Badu
4/5
A really vibey listen
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
An amazing one wow
Morrissey
2/5
This kind of sounds like an AI generated album. He's not supposed to be singing to guitar tunes like this. And it's nothing original at all.
Rage Against The Machine
3/5
Didnt really click. I wish the beastie boys were a little less angry
System Of A Down
3/5
I dont know Toxicity was better in my opinion but this is still some solid numetal
Antony and the Johnsons
3/5
At first this sounded like Joana Newsom, but it didn't click that much for me. Man is suffering, at least that's what his singing voice tells me. And I can appreciate this one for what it is, but it's not going in my rotation
Hugh Masekela
3/5
Steve Earle
2/5
nothing interesting for me
Eagles
3/5
One of the best sounding records I've ever heard. But it's just that. I just don't like the crying rockerman ballads. Sorry dads
JAY Z
3/5
Maan i dont know I'm only gonna give it a strong 3.
I love the man, but 2000s rap is just cheap sounding for me. The beats and flow are fire but it just has that specific 2000s sound that I really dislike
Johnny Cash
4/5
I like this dude much more than Elvis. Very interesting prison live performance like what
The Fall
3/5
Almost a 4. Some really good songs on this one
Dead Kennedys
4/5
Crazy energy bomb. Loved it all the way through. Maybe the other album was better but that's mostly songs from this one so...
Louis Prima
4/5
At first I was like well this sounds like most of the 50s records I hear all the time, but by the end my mood got so much better. Thank you sir for the great music.
Bert Jansch
3/5
Taylor Swift
3/5
I did enjoy this for like 10 songs. It sounds pretty, the lyrics are nice. Crazy what you can achieve with talented songwriters. And the folk sound of these two albums suit her voice so much better. She should do this instead of shitty albums like her latest midnights
Fleet Foxes
3/5
I expected a little more, but I could see myself listening again
Santana
3/5
Skepta
2/5
This has a lot of very 2000s style beats. I kinda like that's not me, but I think his newer albums and features are muuch better. I don't think I can give it a 3 based on a lot of other albums I gave a 3 to. And I looove rap
Led Zeppelin
3/5
Not at the level of the first two but still a solid one
Pulp
3/5
Yeah i dont know. Britpop is really not for me.
Fun Lovin' Criminals
3/5
much better than i expected.
Belle & Sebastian
3/5
Black Flag
4/5
I love early punk. This stuff is raw. Bro was ANGRY
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
Sing about me is a MUST for anyone who loves rap, or music in general. Lots of good songs, but the 2000s hiphop sound that appears on many songs just reassures me that TPAB is THE k dot album and not this one.
Janet Jackson
3/5
I get the message but the disco late 80s music is not the way to send the message to the people
Slipknot
3/5
Not as bad as I thought but not too exciting. Low 3
Dr. Dre
5/5
I just looove the 90s west coast sound. This is a timeless album that defined the sound for the funky hiphop albums to come after this for so many years. This one deserves a 5
Air
4/5
Sounds really ahead of its time. These french now some stuff about dance huh. low 4
Syd Barrett
3/5
Little all over the place. Sounds really good though
The Velvet Underground
4/5
I dont think it’s their best I just love Sister Ray too much and the nico album is just superior as well. Still some beautiful guitar play and just an easy to listen to record altogether.
Jefferson Airplane
4/5
Really popular songs even today and kinda sounds like everything in the late 60s, but still a very enjoyable record
Japan
3/5
It had one pretty good song on it and it was definitely influential, but it didn't do much for me
Aerosmith
3/5
Listened to this after a few Led Zeppelin albums which makes this look not as good in comparison. Id rather listen to them but this one is solid too
Prince
4/5
This was an again very funky record and as others said some songs are a little too long. This one has no reason to be a double lp. Other than that a really solid album. Not at the leve of Purple Rain
Röyksopp
3/5
Lovely background music
Mott The Hoople
2/5
Oh yea this is bad
Pavement
3/5
Yup this one sounds a little like a toned-back Sonic Youth
Neil Young
3/5
The best ive heard from him so far but still not my thing
Guided By Voices
4/5
Oh how I wish this was recorded better :( But still a really fhn album with this many tracks and sitting at only 40 something minutes wow
2/5
AC/DC
4/5
god i love the 70s
The Young Rascals
3/5
Not enough groovin and a little all over the place but still an enjoyable 60s beatles wannabe album
Khaled
3/5
Cool to hear stuff like this but not for me
Pink Floyd
5/5
I mean wow. To listen to this with the high quality surround mix was crazy. I think it might not be at DSOTM level but still insane. Shine on you crazy diamond is a top of all time song objectively
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Loved it I should listen to him more
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Kings of Leon
2/5
Sooo basiic
Cyndi Lauper
4/5
This was suuuuch a good one. One of the best 80s album I've heard on this thing so far
Weather Report
3/5
The Mario Kart soundtrack is a better jazz fusion record. No shade on this one either
Dizzee Rascal
2/5
I like hiphop that doesnt sound like everything else but this is just not good and to appear in the list like noo
Lenny Kravitz
3/5
Its pretty good but at some points the guy just sounded like a tesco Prince
Dire Straits
4/5
This was soo good. Much better than the blue one
T. Rex
3/5
Kinda good, but didn't hear anything very special.
Some Bowie-like vocal chain action which I hate too
Minutemen
4/5
Veery good but a bit too many songs. A little too long
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Not their best one in my opinion but still solid
The Mars Volta
2/5

The Pogues
2/5
maan. Cool in a movie but no
Pixies
4/5
Not as good as Doolittle but still amazing
Beach House
5/5
Firstly I forgot how amazing this album is. Secondly this one played a big part in forming my music taste very early on so I have to give it a 5 even if the second half is a little less perfect than the first tracks
Depeche Mode
3/5
Ah the dramatic 80s. Amazong synths but maybe not as good as music for the masses. Idk
Rahul Dev Burman
2/5
Public Enemy
4/5
I think I like It Takes a Nation... a little more but this one is insane as well
Arcade Fire
3/5
Was perfect for a rainy morning
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
4/5
I loved the lush songs on this one. The harmony that the e-organ, guitar and strings create is immaculate
Stereolab
3/5
Deep Purple
4/5
I gave too many dad rock albums 3s this one should get a 4. It was a fun listen
Ian Dury
2/5
nother bri ish lad
Amy Winehouse
5/5
Masterpiece. It’s a shame we only got one album from her, but knowing her story I kind of wish this one wasn’t even born.
The White Stripes
3/5
Liked it, but maybe not as much as some of their other albums. I like the ones with more energy and distortion a bit more
Sparks
3/5
Pretty interesting and I can hear a lot of artists i listen to in them. Mustve been an inspo
Peter Frampton
3/5
A fine sounding live album. The hits are really good but other than that yea 70s dad rock.
David Holmes
2/5

Fugees
5/5

Genesis
3/5

3/5
The The
4/5
Finaally another 80s banger yessss

Primal Scream
4/5
Steely Dan
3/5
Quicksilver Messenger Service
2/5
New Order
5/5
If I’m gonna have a synth pop 80s record on my top page I think it’s gonna be this one. Loved this one so much. Maybe even better than PC&L?
Marvin Gaye
3/5
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
Pretty songs but not the most interesting for me. Cool one for a nice sunny day I guess
Suede
3/5
I didn't think this was gonna be as good as it was. I didn't think I'd hear another good britpop song after so many not-so-good ones
Mylo
3/5
Kinda not that interesting.
Thin Lizzy
3/5
It's okay but nothing extra
The Fall
2/5

Solange
4/5
A beautiful record. A little too rnb for me to give it 5 stars, but absolutely an amazing record
Joe Ely
2/5
De La Soul
4/5
It’s good. Really good but I don’t think it’s in my favorites of the 90s. Tribe called quest was just more my taste. Loved the flows, the beats were pretty good and the q tip appearance as well
The Yardbirds
3/5
Some really cool grooves on this one. But still not very outstanding from that era
Kraftwerk
3/5
Good one but just not what i need
Kacey Musgraves
3/5
Pretty enjoyable country pop record. Loved the first half. Not so much the second one
Klaxons
2/5
Not very interesting. Much better acts in the genre.
Venom
2/5
This sounds much tamer than sm like Black Flag which is not so good for an album titled Black Metal. Also it doesn't sound too good.
Billy Joel
3/5
Not for me. Yet maybe?
Ice Cube
4/5
This was sooo much better than I expected woah.
Looove this era of hiphop
Frank Ocean
4/5
Very good but it is not on the level of Blond yet.
The highlight was probably Piramids but I liked the ending of it the most.
Ofc super rich kids is a classic too
Sheryl Crow
2/5
Not my style, but I love the Cars song.
Which is not on it.
William Orbit
2/5
Kinda random electronic music.
Heard some much better ones on the list already.
But it was okay as background noise for work
Bon Jovi
2/5
Is this “hard rock”? Come on. I don’t know there’s absolutely nothing this guy does better than anyone in the 80s or late 70s in the hair metal rock space. The hits have catchy ass choruses of course but even those songs are kinda unexciting for me.
It also doesn’t sound too good. How is it that sooo many artists made amazing sounding records in the 70s but this one sounds pretty one dimensional? Anyways I don’t like the guy. Fidn’t hate listening to it tho, so it’s a strong 2
Scritti Politti
2/5
Kinda boring. Doesnt fit on the list
The Afghan Whigs
4/5
This one is really up my alley, a solid 4. Reminded me of a lot of other artists i like
Queen
4/5
I was sooo happy when I heard the first track. I thought maybe no theatrical stuff on this one, but I was wrong.
Buut there was a nice balance between the harder rock and that stuff. This is the best I’ve heard from them so far.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
This one was soo good. Been a long time since I heard something this good on the list. Not THE strongest 5 star on my page but still I don’t think there’s a better reggae album coming up.
Sounded much better than the last I heard from him. Maybe could’ve skipped the one slow track but all is good. A perfect way to spend 37 minutes
American Music Club
3/5
Yes
4/5
A really fun adventure
Hanoi Rocks
2/5
James Taylor
3/5
Pretty good country album
Living Colour
3/5
It was pretty fun, but I'm sure there are a lot of bands doing this but better
The Hives
4/5

Madonna
4/5
A fuun 80s album. Loved the first half much better but still a solid one
Bebel Gilberto

Amazing instrumental album. Have to revisit this one later

4/5
A really fun listen. The first song was insanely good. The others didn't match up to it but still solid.

The Zutons
3/5
Better than I expected
The Chemical Brothers
3/5
It was a journey but it didnt amaze me
Beyoncé
3/5
It was good, but I think it's a little dated and not in a good way. Lemonade and Renaissance are both better than this one. Loved the hits, but some fillers on here. 3.5.

4/5
A really fun and ecstatic listen

Leonard Cohen
4/5

Buzzcocks
4/5
waay ahead of its time
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
Good one but still pretty average for me
Snoop Dogg
5/5

Björk
5/5
A phenomenal listen
Hüsker Dü
3/5
The mix is soo bad
Suzanne Vega
3/5
Not the most exciting female singer songwriter album i heard on here, but still a pretty listen
Drive-By Truckers
2/5
Muuuurica
Iron Maiden
4/5
This was really fun and still on the good side of Metal. I have to say I think I enjoyed Black Sabbath more. Less obnoxious guitar solos and more memorable riffs, but still this is solid
The 13th Floor Elevators
3/5
Psych rock. Its good, but nothing that would make it better than anything else in the genre
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
3/5
Glad I can find stuff like this. Was nice to listen to it once
Les Rythmes Digitales
2/5
Yeah not that interesting.
Fiona Apple

Afrika Bambaataa
2/5
Kinda bad
White Denim
3/5
Not that exciting but a pretty good one.

Norah Jones
4/5
Lovely listen. Perfect for a walk home
Charles Mingus
4/5
Seems like I just love all Jazz.
This was another cool one.
Keep em coming
Fishbone
3/5
This was really fun. For the first half a 4 but the latter a little lower. So a strong 3
The Killers
4/5
If this were my childhood, I would've given it a 5 easily, but I only knew a few, so most of the songs were new to me. A lot of bangers and just long enough. A very strong 4 full of pop bangers
Randy Newman
2/5
The Kinks
3/5
I was just sad i wasnt listening to the beatles
Malcolm McLaren
4/5
This felt kinda like a fever dream.
Like someone was stuck in a radio room in a time machine

King Crimson
3/5
Not nearly as good as their most popular one
Steely Dan
3/5
The other steely was better. I didnt like nothing about this
Marvin Gaye
5/5
I like hating on the so called "best albums of all time" and I started this like that. the first 30 seconds hit me like oh this is insane. I looove it. But then later I realized that this is just not exactly for me. It is a very specific mood and the listen was absolutely a fun time. Not fillers on this one and in its genre and time this is of course one of THE best ones. I would for sure put it at 5 if it resonated with me more. I need to listen to this in like 10 years again. A very strong 5 for me
Buffalo Springfield
3/5
Nothing remarkable about this one
Anthrax
2/5
Dont really like his voice and the music was a little 1d too.
Judas Priest
3/5
The Iron Maiden and ACDC 1980 albums were both better, but this is still good Metal
The Damned
3/5
Not the most interesting stuff i heard on here, but enjoyable
R.E.M.
3/5
I liked this. But I dont think im gonna listen again, so a strong 3
Billie Holiday
5/5
A Beautiful record
Soft Machine
2/5
Wasnt that good. I like that it exists and it was mustve been pretty cool in the 70s, but I think a lot other bands since did this style better.
Adele
3/5
Shes an amazing singer and the album is produced to perfection, but none of the songs are particularly interesting. I liked Lovesong the most, but I think there are many more singer songwriter albums on this list.
I could compare it to Amy’s album but won’t.
The Beach Boys
4/5
I loved this shift in the Beach Boys’ style.
Some very pretty tracks on this one
Gang Starr
4/5
Dj Premier the goat and can’t discredit this album at all, but there have been a few better albums in the 90s. Many on this list too.
Still I had fun 🙏
Public Image Ltd.
3/5
Much more fun than I thought, but that Religion hate song was a little too much. Still I had fun, strong 3
Van Halen
3/5
I like the runtime and I enjoyed it much better than I thought I would.
Hair metal is really not my thing but I had fuun
The Monkees
3/5
They were so behind the beatles. This one just wasnt very inetersting to me. Fiine, but a little boring
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
i liked it, but didnt really love any songs other than the last one
Caetano Veloso
3/5
Was really fun but I guess i dont like brazilian music as much as I want to
Patti Smith
4/5
Maan i love the 70s
Killing Joke
2/5
I just didnt like the style
Circle Jerks
4/5
This was a reeeally fun 16 minutes
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
Yes
3/5
I liked almost every song besides the most popular one but altogether its just not my thingg
Prefab Sprout
3/5
Actually pretty fun. I liked it
The Style Council
3/5
I iiis all over the place, but individually all songs are actually pretty good
Sonic Youth
5/5
Well yea the intro song has been stuck in my head since the day i first heard it. Love this one
The Crusaders
3/5
The Magnetic Fields
3/5
I like the idea, the idea is fun and i think almost all songs are like a good 3. I listened to disk 1 and it’s good background music. Nothing reeally exceptional, but then again this is not about that. It really captures the generic lovesong genre.
Scott Walker
3/5
II think this was ahead of it’s time. The singing style is more 80s and this thing came out in 69 damn. I dont like the singing style tho.
Instrumentals sound crisp and beautiful tho wow
Sly & The Family Stone
4/5
This is really fuun. I love this era
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
Yea this was annoying
The Blue Nile
3/5
I just dont really like the moaning style of the 80s. Dont know why
The Last Shadow Puppets
4/5
This was a pretty good Arctic Monkeys album. You just can’t take Alex Turner out of the band, you can give it a different name, but it’s still kinda the same. Liked a bunch of songs tho. Low 4
Burning Spear
5/5
Even if I don’t look at the historical significance, this albums slaps. With the (probably remaster) I listened to, every instrument was clean, punchy just how a perfect raggae album would sound. This might even be better than Exodus. Gotta give both a re-listen
Cypress Hill
4/5
This is kinda like the most east coast sounding west coast hip hop album.
Liked it very much, but maybe not as good as some others like the Wu Tang album, Doggystyle, Chronic and so on.
Low 4
The Waterboys
4/5
this one is a really interesting one
The Incredible String Band
2/5
Calexico
4/5
this was an awesome album. This is a perfect mix of latin music and indie rock.
The Byrds
4/5
This was so much better than I thought. I thought Id skip this one after the first few songs but actually this just sounds really good. Low 4
Everything But The Girl
2/5
I don't know this jsut doesn't sound that good to me. It's also a little late to the party. This could've been made in the 80s easily.
Elvis Presley
4/5
I did enjoy this one but then again there are many better artists from this era who deserve his level of fame.
Small Faces
3/5
Fun but nothing overly exciting
David Bowie
4/5
One of the better Bowie albums. This might be the last one of his on the list. I came to like him more than I thought I would after listening to the 9 albums on the list. This one is a perfect one to close it off.
Adam & The Ants
2/5
I did not enjoy this one
Leonard Cohen
4/5
This might be the best of him which is insane considering his insane carreer length. This might even be a 5 star one, but I’m gonna go with a hiiiigh 4
Iron Maiden
3/5
This was fun, and perfect for speeding through some work, but I don't think it's that good. Sounds a little cheesy, I think he's doing a little too much on the guitar and yea, but still I enjoyed listening to it. Strong 3
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
This was a good time. Felt like I was at a campfire with the dude just listening to the man’s stories. He knows whats up
Sister Sledge
5/5
loved it front to back. I got suuucked in during the first 3 seconds of this one. No disco record is gonna beat this one im sure
Sugar
2/5
I couldn't imagine listening to this outside of a 90s rock (maybe grunge) playlist. There's nothing that would grip me it just sounds a bit worse than some of the time's greats. and HOW was it voted best album of 1992? Hello? Chronic, Dirty (Sonic Youth), the Cure album, but Pavement and Alice in chains would've all deserved it more
M.I.A.
4/5
A very fun listen. I think it’s way ahead of its time and im glad she got as popular as she did
Dagmar Krause
2/5
This felt like listening to Abba in a fever dream at the beginning. then it changed to german
Scissor Sisters
3/5
I thought I’d like it more based on some of the reviews. It’s good but their clear influences are generally better
Harry Nilsson
3/5
Pretty good, but I wouldn't compare him to the Beatles. Strong 3 low 4?
Mudhoney
3/5
This was pretty gooood. i liked it. It is a little long, but I just like the genre, so it wasn't a big deal.
Still, It's only gonna be a stroong 3
Big Star
4/5
Actually much better than i expected. It was a good listen, wouldn’t mind hearing it again, so low 4
The Youngbloods
4/5
This was really vibey. Made my mood better for the day.
Sonic Youth
5/5
This might be my favorite sonic youth record. I think this one has the best production out of the "top" records (Sister and Daydream Nation), the fuzzy guitars and bass sound sooooo goood.
I have to say this is kind of exactly my music taste so I can't go objective here, this is a 5 star album. Maybe not the strongest on the list, but I'd absolutely love to listen to this any day.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
3/5
i might just not get it but i didnt like it as much as some people on here.
Johnny Cash
3/5
it was fiine, but I don't think this comes close to the prison lives.
Bunch of covers too.
Still, a strong 3
The Undertones
3/5
This was pretty good. I think almost Clash level stuff. Strong 3
Raekwon
3/5
I liked this much better than i thought I would. Based on the reviews i was expecting underwhelming stuff but I saved a lot of songs from this one. And Raekwon is amazing. Maybe a little bloated and all over the place but the beats are good the flows are niice. I liked it
Destiny's Child
3/5
This was fun. The first half has a lot of bangers and although I don't like the sound of 2000s pop, this was a fun listen
George Michael
3/5
The production was really good, but it was not really my thing. Prince did it much better and this is a little too close to the 90s pop for my taste
The Who
2/5
maan i thought the who was supposed to be like early punk stuff. Yea this one isn’t it
Gary Numan
2/5
I prefer Kraftwerk.
I just can't get into New Wave
Napalm Death
3/5
I used to say I hate metal. But I'd much rather take this over a lot of modern stuff. I had fun okay?
Leonard Cohen
4/5
This was a beautiful record. I loved all of it. Especially the songs with the choir behind him. I need to listen to this again and pay attention to the lyrics too
Ute Lemper
2/5
Not my thing and the lyrics ARE god awful at times
Manu Chao
5/5
Ahh I loved the first half soooooo much. It would've been an easy 5 star, but the other half was a little bit less amazing. Still, I think it deserves to be among my other 5 star albums.
Light 5
Meat Puppets
2/5
I had higher expectations for this, but I just didn't like it. Lot of Nirvana mentions, well no. Their demos even sound better
Fairport Convention
3/5
Not really my thing, but sounded okay? The singer sounded a lot like someone else I heard not too long ago
Tori Amos
3/5
Sounded a lit like Kate Bush, but I might like this one a little bit more.
Tom Waits
4/5
I liked this one also much better than I thought I would, but even the first song got me like damn this is gonna be a different one. I actually heard a lot of captain beefheart influence in this one which is crazy.
Paul McCartney
4/5
This is a pretty nice album. Little bit more raw than the Beatles albums which is nice. I think he's done as good of a job as one could, distancing himself from the group when creating a solo album.
Jacques Brel
4/5
I dont know what he’s singing about, but I FELT it maan. This was really a breath of fresh air event amongst the 60s albums
Frank Black
3/5
Of course it doesn't really come close to the big Pixies Records, but still very enjoyable. If it wasn't for the loong tracklist I think it would get a 4 star rating, but as it is I think a 3 is more like it.
Big Black
5/5
This is SOOO good. This one definitely influenced some of my favorites that came yeeears after this. I love Steve Albini's producer work too.
It still sounds modern even today.
Low 5 compared to some of my 5 star albums
A Tribe Called Quest
5/5
I loved this one. Almost as good as the Low End Theory. I think this is their second best and I really have no complaints about this one. Low 5
Spacemen 3
3/5
Wasnt bad, but it was going nowhere a little bit. I don't think it's a 2 star album though, so low 3
Silver Jews
2/5
This just sounds so generic. Nothing standing out from this one. I think some of the more “modern” albums just got here because either the author liked them or somehow the band paid him. No disrespect, I just don’t think this should’ve taken up a place from more influencial records
The Pogues
3/5
a fun listen absolutely. Only a strong 3 just because i don't think I'll listen to this again in its entirety, but still worth listening to this one.
Deerhunter
4/5
This might be the only band on the list who I've seen live.
Was very surprised to see these guys on here, but I'm really happy they included this one. I think they're really underrated. Some songs are reeeeally good and some are a little weaker. Still a veery solid 4. Might be a little biased tho :)
Robert Wyatt
3/5
Felt pretty shleepy
The Offspring
4/5
I had a lot of fun.
This is how pop punk should sound!
Low 4 for this one. I hear a lot of Nirvana in it and it’s pretty basic stuff but still 47 minutes of nonstop fun
The Icarus Line
4/5
This was also pretty fun. Like a little weaker almost as good jack white project
KISS
2/5
Oh this is not good
Missy Elliott
5/5
This was the flyest album I’ve ever heard. Timbaland is insane on this one. I didn’t really know or appreciate his work that much up to this point but this absolutely proves that he’s one of the best to ever do it. The mixing was insane too. This album that wants to sound like the 2000s sounds much better than most of the big albums in that era. Loved it front to back
The Jesus And Mary Chain
3/5
The mix is sooooo thin oh my goood. It would be pretty good otherwise, but like this it's pretty unlistenable for me. Some good tunes here otherwise, but maan it hurts.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
This went by like a breeze. It sounded pretty nice and I was getting a little bored with the 70s sound at this point, but this was soolid.
Dion
2/5
Very uninteresting
Supertramp
4/5
This was maxied so well like woow. I think recording quality absolutely peaked in the 70s.
About the album. Well this is a definitive one of the sound of the entire century and it's a solid one that's worth going back to I think.
Elliott Smith
4/5
This was also very good. One of the best singer songwriter albums on the list so far.
Jane's Addiction
3/5
It was pretty different from what I expected, but i had fun. Don't think I'm gonna come back to this one, but still a strrooong 3
Peter Gabriel
4/5
I really liked the sound of this one. Probably not gonna listen to it many more times, but can't give it a 3. Low 4 is a better fit.
Radiohead
5/5
I probably wouldn’t say this one is as flawless as OKC or In Rainbows or KID A Amnesiac for that matter, but it’s still underrated in my opinion. It stands on it’s own. It has one of my all time favorite somgs There there and it’s just a banger at times.
Low 5
George Harrison
3/5
Carpenters
3/5
It was okay, but nothing amazing. Good time, but never gonna listen again
Mj Cole
2/5
really all over the place and just not that interesting. Strong 2
Incredible Bongo Band
3/5
🪘
The KLF
2/5
Ugh I don't like this 90s pop sound. Some of the good songs are only good because of their samples.
Lorde
4/5
This is one of the best female pop vocal albums of the 2010s. I liked it just as much as back then
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
3/5
This kind of feels like a cover album. It doesn't have the weight of Dylan or Johnny Cash songs that would come later and also doesn't FOLK as much as Woody does. Low 3
The xx
3/5
I like the XX very much but this wasn’t really an album that fits the list. It was nice on a sunny but chilly day, but compared to a lot of albums on here, it doesn’t reach that level. Still good
G. Love & Special Sauce
3/5
It’s cool that somebody tried this sound but I dont like the execution too much
Roxy Music
3/5
I thought it was gonna be better
Rush
2/5
Not my thing at aaaall
T. Rex
4/5
If I had to listen to a Glam Rock record I wouldn't mind listening to this one. It was a fun listen and I might like the singing style of this guy more than Bowie
Green Day
3/5
Liked mostly because of nostalgia but Dookie is better
Peter Gabriel
3/5
Not bad but SO was immediately more interesting
Queen Latifah
3/5
a little weak compared to others in this era but enjoyable. low 3
The Soft Boys
3/5
It was fine but nothing grabbed me too much
10cc
2/5
Sounds a lot like a lot of other bands but I just didnt like this fusion. Glam-prog sounds like my nightmare too
Suicide
4/5
Almost gave this one a 5.
Im glad i discovered this what a gem!
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
AI could maje this today
The Byrds
4/5
Like the Beatles but a little different which is not bad. Low 4
Tricky
4/5
I like Portishead and Massive attack more but this was enjoyable as well
Pulp
3/5
Good but nothing major for me
Grizzly Bear
3/5
Unfortunately i hear a lot of bands who sound like this nowadays so I dont think they really belong here. Still I like this sound so I had fun
Alice Cooper
3/5
Not my thing but this was pretty enjoyable strroong 3
Jack White
4/5
Sounds a lot like White Stripes days. I think he has better solo albums by now but still i love the guy so what can you do
B.B. King
3/5
I like jazz more than blues i gotta say. Stroong 3 tho
Fatboy Slim
4/5
Maan this was really fun. There were a bunch that i liked
The Jam
4/5
This was a fun listen with lots of variety I dont think it matches up to the clash or the smiths but still a fuuun listen. Low 4
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
First half was amazing. There was one song that I really didn’t like. But altogether you know it’s good
Cornershop
2/5
Liked the second track. Not so much the others. Strong 2?
Neneh Cherry
2/5
I hate this era of pop sadly.
Even the first track is like a 3 at best.
I'm tempted to give this one a 1, but weak 2 is fine
My Bloody Valentine
5/5
I dont know It’s been a long time since I first heard this one and it still is an amazing journey to listen front to back. I own it on vinyl and I think everyone should listen to this with the volume up High so you can hear all the layers. I tried listening on a lower volume and it just doesn’t hit the same. I love it for what it is so much. Easy 5. Sometimes is my favorite track right now.
Shivkumar Sharma
4/5
Don't think I'm gonna be returning tp this one too many times but it was a crazy journey. Loved it.
The Only Ones
3/5
The Roots
4/5
This is pretty good. So some 2000s rap records are actually good wow. Light 4
Deep Purple
4/5
See? Dad rock can be good I just have to be in the mood for it. Wanted to give it a low 4 but I had a lot of fun so a good 4
Justin Timberlake
1/5
This sounds like the dreams of that guy in my calculus class when he’s the cool main character 😎
I haate the 2000s pop sounds even if this was produced by legends i just reaally dislike it. And Justin was cringe in eveery song maan
The Cult
2/5
All songs are the same and some of the instruments sound like they were recorded with a cheap VST. But it 1987 huh?
LTJ Bukem
3/5
This was pretty cool and a good one for studying and a nice walk too. Liittle long with the 3 and a half hour runtime but who cares. Strong 3
Baaba Maal
3/5
Vibey listen but not really memorable
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
It was pretty good but it’s an era with hiphop before the Golden age of rap. I love jazz rap in this era so much more. Still cant deny its influence
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
This was pretty weak. I HAAATED the first song thought id give it a 1 but then it got better thankfully. Still find his voice annoying.
It is worth a very weak 3 though
Dr. John
4/5
A Reeeeally cool listen and its still insane to me how a recording from 1968 can sound this good even if its a remaster like wooow
Goldie
3/5
Wanted to rate it a 2 at first but I started vibing a little by the end of it. The list should have better dnb albums but it’s always nice to work while listening to these
Sex Pistols
5/5
It's crazy that they only have one album. But what an album omg. I really wish it was recorded better but hey that's punk for you. The Who don't come close to this at all. None of the other UK punk bands for that matter
King Crimson
5/5
It's insane that this came out when it did. 21st century might be the best prog rock song ever recorded. I didn't like all of the songs as much as that, but still this is an amazing album. Weak 5 or strong 4, it changes.
Talking Heads
3/5
I have to accept that Talking Heads just isn't my thing.
It was still a fun time
The Thrills
3/5
Okay background music
Heaven 17
2/5
Oh well I admire the dance punk weirdness but I just didnt get anything out of this one
Kelela
3/5
This doesnt deserve to be here but still pretty enjoyable
Adele
3/5
Just boring. She could do soo many better songs. I found one good song again
Sebadoh
2/5
This sounds like a band practice at the parents’ house where the mom already told them to be more quiet 2 times….
I wouldn’t say this is lo-fi it’s just lo-effort
5/5
This was such an amazing listen. Some of the COOLEST music I've ever heard in my life. I loved Four Cornered Room the most I think. I want to Own this on vinyl!!!!
Grateful Dead
3/5
started out a high 3 but got pretty stale
The Allman Brothers Band
4/5
This was a good mix of genres and just amazing instrument play. Sounds really inviting
4/5
A little long but still its a very enjoyable time. Strong 3 to light 4 cant decide
The B-52's
4/5
A Really fun record that I would love to revisit it soon
Randy Newman
3/5
Beastie Boys
5/5
This was a reeeally good record. I love this sound. Loved the samples and almost everything about it. There are some stronger, some weaker tracks, but all around i is at least a low 5
N.E.R.D
3/5
I didnt like it as much as I though I would.
Still dont like the 2000s.
It was interesting, but I don't think I'll revisit. Didn't leave a big impression on me
Kanye West
4/5
I love how original this sounded and it still stands its place. I would probably rate it a 5, but I don't think it's as good as MBDTF, so I'm gonna keep it a hiiigh 4. Love this one. Get the volume up, set the bass high and just enjoy it!!
Bauhaus
3/5
Sounded a little bit like Joy Division just not as good.
Janis Joplin
4/5
An amazing album that proves to me that some classic rock albums ARE deserving of their praise. Some songs are clearly a 10/10, but in its entirity I think a strooong 4 is right for my taste
Haircut 100
3/5
Pretty good New Wave album but got repetitive after a few tracks
Mariah Carey
2/5
They butchered Shook Ones :((((((((
I haate this style in the 90s. So annoying
John Martyn
5/5
I was thinking a lot about what to give this one, but after listening to the deluxe, I have to say this is amazing. Every song was pretty much great. It was just varied enough to not get boring and it had a LOT to offer. A bunch of different vibes and genres mixed together. I like his voice and the MIXING omg its so good. Low to mid 5 easily
TV On The Radio
3/5
I can clearly hear some influences but i dont think this is a good mix. Its okay for background listening. Low 3
2/5
Beth Orton
2/5
Pretty Boring. Sounded like Norah Jones if she wasnt good.
Alice Cooper
4/5
This was much better than i expected. Solid 70s rock
Grant Lee Buffalo
3/5
Tim Buckley
3/5
Better than what ppl said on here but nothing eextra like his son. Solid 3
Laibach
2/5
little scary
Todd Rundgren
3/5
This could've been a 4 easily if it was just a little shorter. More like half as short, but still there are some amazing songs to be found here. Glad I listened to the whole thing
U2
3/5
Not very good. Wanted to give it a 2 but it's not even bad enough. Just bland. Radiohead a few years later took everything good about U2 and just used that to create a muuch better sound. I think they're waay overrated.
Nitin Sawhney
3/5
On one hand not on the level of Massive Attack or similar Electronic 90s ppl, but also not Call of The Valley.
Not my favorite, but an interesting listen.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Not his best, but I'm not a lyrics guy, so I'm not the best one to ask on this one. Still, I like the guy, so at least a 3
Gram Parsons
3/5
Nothing very exciting, but not bad at all
Elis Regina
4/5
This is a little too upbeat for me. I love MBP, but I think the 70s hit much better for me. Started her other album Elis and Tom and I think I might give that a 5. This is a mid to low 4 for me.
Steve Winwood
3/5
Enjoyed my time with it, but its an early 80s sound that I just dont love as much as some others that sound like this. Still, an easy 3
Christina Aguilera
3/5
This couldve been a single album, had no real reason to be a double. I ofc liked Hurt, Candyman and a bunch of others, but not really gonna revisit it much. Not my favorite singing style. Still a stronger 3
Dinosaur Jr.
4/5
I briefly listened to them back in high school when we were trying to sound like these guys, but I didn't listen to the whole thing. Probably only the Just Like Heaven cover most of the time. This is an amaziong project. The recording quality ofc is ass, but I don't think it would hit the same if it was mastered perfectly. A really cool no-miss project that I think is a really unique one. I don't think I'm gonna give it a 5 just because of the mixing and sound inconsistency, but I love this one. Finally a great album like this.
Gene Clark
2/5
Not american enough to like country, hes also not dylan so
3/5
This was a fun one. Love the sound they were going for. Still only a strong 3 because there's no standout track on it. I only love the sound, not any specific track.
Django Django
3/5
Not really interesting to me. A little over the place for me
The Cure
5/5
Okay, The Cure might be one of my top 5 favourite artists of all time after this. This was amazing.
Love
3/5
A fine time. Nothing extra exciting but still okay
Radiohead
5/5
There aren't many better ways to spend 45 minutes in this life than this.
Also Disk 2 is amazing as well
Brian Eno
3/5
Little too glam rock for me but there's a lot to love on this one
The Band
4/5
This is one of the best late 60s Country Rock albums I've ever heard. Lovely mix and sound throughout. Not gonna revisit it too often, but definitely deserves the love
Hot Chip
4/5
This one was SOO much fun wow. I'm always sceptical of the newer additions to the book, since some of them sound like they paid to get added to the collection, but this one belongs here i think. Fun, great sounding and just short enough to not get repetitive. I would maybe rate it a low 5, but high 4 has to do
Lucinda Williams
3/5
This was pretty nice. I wouldnt mind listening again. Strong 3 easily
Beastie Boys
5/5
What the hell? This thing is so damn cool. Loved how it mixed a BUUNCH of styles and they executed all pretty well. The mix was all over the place which is a little distracting ngl, but still this is one of the best albums I've heard on the list that I didn't know before. Loved the tribe appearance, loved the instrumental songs too. Damn
Elvis Costello
3/5
Still dont like his voice that much and although I enjoyed listening to it, I don't think I'll come back. Still, strong 3
The xx
4/5
An amazing album and I would've definitely rated it a 5 back in high school in that sad teen times, but not now. It still deserves it's place here and it's an easy 4
Kings of Leon
3/5
A good time, but didn't save any songs.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
2/5
Nothing interesting for me
Slipknot
3/5
Love the energy, but I still don't like the genre too much. Very high 3, but not quite a 4 for me
The Doors
4/5
This was a huuge vibe. It might be a tad too long, but I just had fun with almost every track. An amazing record, but I don't think it's too original. I hope most of the stuff wasn't just straight up stolen, but still, can't help but vibe with this one.
The Dandy Warhols
4/5
This was pretty fun. A little flat mix, but still a coool sound
Happy Mondays
3/5
Could be my thing, but it just didn't hit
The Fall
2/5
That was a weird one. I liked the other Fall album that i heard, but this one is just more annoying than good even for me
David Ackles
2/5
Pretty damn bad. Not my thing
Pixies
4/5
Loved this one. Maybe not as good as Doolittle. I think this one has a few skips but some insane bangers too. I think i liked the first 2 tracks the most. Very strong 4
Funkadelic
4/5
Pretty cool album, a little too close to psych and prog rock for me. Best song is by far the 4th one Doo Doo chasers. Loved that one, but overall I think Maggot Brain is much better. I would give this one a mid 4. Still loved it
Queen
4/5
I liked it better than I thought I would, but maan I still dont like glam rock. I think it’s way too extra and too much in a bad way for me. Then again this one is better than night at the opera for me as it’s a liiittle less theatrical. Bit more noisy, which makes it the best of theirs for me so far. Enough guitar solos for me for a week too. Let’s give it a weeeeak 4
The Sugarcubes
4/5
This as i can see from the comments is a divisive album. I finally am in the group that loves the album. Didn't take too long to realize that Bjork is on this one, and I think she made this one shine. And I'm really glad I could also recognize the similarity to B-52s. I don't think that this is any worse than them.
I loved the themes, the instrument sounds and of course the Icelandic girlie's voice on this one. I want to listen again in the future for sure
Miriam Makeba
4/5
Loved every second. I think I'll rate it a high 4, but this one deserves a 5 as well.
Serge Gainsbourg
2/5
asswater
4/5
Loved the energy on this one. At some point I was thinking it can be a 5, but a few days later it didn't stick as much. I need to listen again though.
Hole
5/5
I almost like this as much as Neermind and In Utero. There are 2 weaker songs for me on the project, but all of the others hit reeeeal hard. I love grunge in this era. Some songs sound very similar, but shit i like that song
Todd Rundgren
2/5
I decided, I don't like the guy. Gotta do more LSD for this one. I don't hate it for the most part, but it was pretty annoying at times. I remember liking Something/Anything a bit better than this :(
Little Simz
4/5
I might still like Sometimes I might be more, but this was a really cool one as well. Darker, but still amazing flow and lyrics.
SHe might be today's Lauryn Hill
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
Yeah most of this is just ass. Many other artists wouldve deserved this spot. I liked the opening track and thats about it. I think since they established a style back then, other artists have perfected it and elevated it while they’re not just stuck in their past, but also made it spmehow worse. I think it’s mostly just boring and only sometimes annoying tho, so i can’t give it a bad 2. It’s a veery low 3 for me
Massive Attack
5/5
This is an amazing album. I just have nothing bad to say about it. All tracks are very good, no skips at all. I loved Dummy by Portishead, and this one is pretty close to that trip-hop sound. I think this is more easy to listen to, much less dark, so I think they go together really well. Solid 5
Eminem
3/5
I of course hated some of the lyrics but thats kind of the point i guess? It's leaning closer to the 2000s hiphop sound, which I don't really like. Some songs are amazing, I'd say 4-5 of the 18. I get it, he's a storyteller and there are a bunch of characters, and all... Not really my thing. Some dre beats are of course really good, but this didn't make me like the guy more. Maybe a higher 3 because of the bangers, but I have no motivator to listen to the whole thing in full ever again
Muddy Waters
4/5
cool af
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
4/5
Didn't think Damon Albarn was chill like that. This was a good surprise. Have to listen again.
4/5
Good one, some great parts, but a liittle too proggy for me. Weak 4 i think
Animal Collective
3/5
Vibey, but I expected more from an album cover this good.
Pink Floyd
4/5
This was much better than I thought. Loved it waay better than The Wall. Maybe Animals and DSOTM are better, because they are more Pink Floyd, but this is still good.
It also sounds insanely good for 67 woow.
Solomon Burke
4/5
I mean what can I say, a good ass time
Sepultura
3/5
Pretty damn boring, but thats just my taste talking.
It wasn't bad at all. It's just not an exciting sound for me. There are absolutely amazing metal records, but this one just doesn't do anything special for me. Low 3
The Velvet Underground
5/5
This is the definite VU album. Loved every minute. Venus in Furs is incredible and it’s insane that these songs were made in 67 amongst the beatles and beach boys. I’ll always cherish the memory of hearing heroine randomly playing at a Warhol popup museum when i was in Croatia. Easily a 5 star
The Young Gods
2/5
I'm just not the French Industrial rock typa dude you know?
The Boo Radleys
3/5
I have to listen to this again. I'm on the fence here. I think this sounds like just the thing i like, but it's just not there. It sounds exactly like what I love, but it's a little too long, not many catchy tunes, I don't know. I'm gonna give it a 3. Might change my mind later.
The Police
3/5
Overrated thats all i can think about. I heard one other good song on this one, but Every Breath is so much above everything else on the album it’s insane. Some songs just dont belong on it AT ALL. mid 3
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
There's no killing moon on this one. Altogether a fine post-punk album. Not amongst the best in my opinion, but it was a fine listen. Mid 3
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
It's not that deep bro
Air
3/5
A pleasant listen. Nothing very exciting without the movie, but still an awesome score.
Jungle Brothers
3/5
I’m glad i listened to this one as it’s probably important. I heard De La and Tribe called quest mentioned so many times I was just wishing i was listening to them instead. Qtip came on on one song too that was cool.
I don’t know, the lyrics were unexpected for me, but kinda funny and sometimes just positive stuff which is nice, but you know a little too positive? Also the mixing was all over the place. Loved the samples tho.
High 3 i think.
Bee Gees
2/5
asswater
Def Leppard
4/5
This might be the best glam/hair rock album I've heard so far. It was just fuun from beginning to end. Still not my thing so only a 4, but I wouldn't mind listening to it again. Strrrong 4 tho
Laura Nyro
3/5
This was pretty nice. The one guy said it goes from annoying to pretty. That is exactly true. I think this is nowhere near Norah Jones, but still very pretty sounds. Stroooong 3
Tom Waits
3/5
Pretentious sounding mf. Not too bad, but the in studio, but also live setting is a bit weird. Bass player is insane of course. Loved the bass sounds throughout. Altogether it's not better than a 3 tho
The Residents
2/5
I could get into this but im in not in a weird music typa vibe rn so not today
FKA twigs
3/5
Flume could've made this a little more extra. I like the experimental sounds, don't really like the lyrics. She has a good voice and the instrumentals are also pretty I just found it a little boring still. I think Eusexua is much better. Liked that one way more.
Dinosaur Jr.
4/5
This was a fun college rock lp. Just long enough. The mixing is what it is, but it adds to the vibe. Loved it.
Soundgarden
4/5
This was a really good surprise. I like grunge, I like his voice. Some songs' lyrics were weird but I still HAVE TO listen to this one again
Kings of Leon
3/5
This is just teen streaming show music. Not offensive at all, also not really interesting. Was fine background music tho.
Lightning Bolt
4/5
I always wanted to listen to them. Not my everyday listening type of album but I had a lot of fun listening to it
DJ Shadow
4/5
This is not really what I thought it would be. Some arrangements are veery easy 10/10s. And I thought it would be just a bunch of bangers and instrumental hiphop. But this is an eletronica record with a little bit of trip-hop. And also I was very surprised by melodies coming back one or two songs later. It's like the whole project is trying to capture the art of creating music based on samples.
In this context, it could be a 5/5, I know it's significance, i know it's influence, but I still don't want to listen to it all day every day. I love Massive Attack and Portishead much more in this era, they did trip-hop much better in my opinion. Still it's an easy 4/5 for me
Frank Sinatra
3/5
Dude's good for christmas vibes but one of the most one dimensional singers I know.
Doves
3/5
Yup, coldplay
Donovan
3/5
This sounds like a mix of velvet underground and bob dylan. It's not bad by any means, but at the end of the day I'd rather listen to either of them instead of this one.
The Divine Comedy
2/5
So not my thing. The dude looks like thom yorke. Too bad he isn't tho
U2
3/5
I was kinda getting into it but the Two Hearts Beat as One track threw me off completely. Is this band for like kids and moms in their 40s?
Hawkwind
2/5
Yeah u know guitars are guitaring. I like that. But it's just not that good.
Magazine
4/5
It was interesting to read about this and it sounded pretty damn good for being one of the first post-punk joints. I liked it, but I like what spanned from it even more. Lower 4
Frank Zappa
4/5
This was a really fun record. Glad I listened. Grooved all the way through my commute.
Pixies
5/5
God i love this record. This is pretty much as flawless as an album can be
Iron Butterfly
3/5
I mean this was fun. Liked it.
Jamiroquai
3/5
:( couldve been better if it was just stevie
MC Solaar
4/5
Loved the funky beats. Sounded at some points very similar to some other artist but not sure who. Low 4
The Prodigy
4/5
Oh this was a banger honestly. I’m tempted to give it a 5, but i think i’ll stick to a veery high 4. It’s just amazing early electronica. Had a blast at work listening to this one
Nick Drake
4/5
This one is a preeetty album. I like Nick Drake very much when I’m in the mood. And I was today, so easy 4
Stephen Stills
3/5
Curtis Mayfield
5/5
For what it is, it's a 5. Maybe not as good as What's goin on, but very close to it. Looved the rhythm section. Maybe not a big fan of the huge orchestra, but as a soundtrack this shit slaps
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
I don't really have nothing to say about this. It's that middle of the road for me. Eillen song is catchy, but nothing else stands out at all.
The Who
4/5
The original tracklist version is not even on apple music by itself. I think if I listened to that only it could've been closer to a 5. Still, this is a pretty cool live album I have to say. Not THE best ever in my opinion, but damn, they can play.
Can
4/5
Halleluwah was the first song that I heard from them (a different, much shorter version) and i loved that song so much even at 16 years old. Now, 8 years later I still think Can is one of the best bands from the era. The first half of this is straight bangers. The transition from the first song to Mushroom might be one of the best song transitions I've ever heard.
Thing is if it wasn't for the change into weirdness from Aumgm, it would be an easy 5. Like this, I think I'll give it a 4. Ege might be better
The Beta Band
3/5
was okay, kinda interesting at points but nothing major
Everything But The Girl
3/5
Not my thing. But also didnt hate it. Very low 3
Beck
3/5
There were some fun things on this one. Probably not gonna be one of my favorites. I didn't really click with it as much as I thought I would based on who did the extensive sampling on this one, but still glad i listened
Faith No More
2/5
This is some proper ass water. I hated the bass sound, the vocalist sounded like he had an annoying accent.
I was like woah finally a good song?
Nah its just a cover of an amazing song.
The Who
4/5
I mean there’s nothing much better by 65 in the popular rock scene. Most of these are like covers of black musicians’ amazing works, but can’t deny shit slaps
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
2/5
im not weird enough for this yet. feel like i got fucked up at a carnival
Koffi Olomide
2/5
no
Aretha Franklin
5/5
One of the best records I've ever heard. Love the voice of her and I'll continue listening to it for years. Glad I'm able to listen to stuff like this in this day and age.
Jazmine Sullivan
3/5
Eh, not too bad, but SZA just does it so much better, that I just really don't see any point in ever listening to this again.
Talking Heads
4/5
Maan this was a banger. How does it sound so gooood
Blur
3/5
I gave it two chances. There was only One song i loved, which was Clover Over Dover. The others were also okay, but I didnt LOVE the album.
Massive Attack
4/5
Not as good as their two top albums, but still i love the genre, so I had a good time
The Divine Comedy
3/5
Wanted to hate it, but the guitar work is so smooth and nice on some tracks. Also not my thing, but had fun. I want love songs to be like this not the 80s pop drama
Underworld
2/5
Garbo
Gorillaz
3/5
I feel like i shouldve liked this better than i did. I think Clint Eastwood has all the quirks and uniqueness that the album has. The laid-back vibe, cheap sounding instruments, not taking stuff too seriously. I don’t think the rest of the album holds the attention that well. I think a single lp could’ve been better. Their later work is much more appealing to me, but still this is a good album, just not as much for me as i thought
The Louvin Brothers
2/5
They were prolly racist, idk.
Funky ass lyrics couldnt save this one for me
The Undertones
3/5
This was pretty fun! I dont think I'll save stuff from this album, but it's definitely a fun time. Glad I listened. Strooong 3
Drive Like Jehu
5/5
This was pretty damn good. Reminded me very much of Slint and I loove spiderland, so naturally i liked this one as well. Maybe a 5 is a little too much, but shit it was amazing
Nico
4/5
Preetty stuff. I was missing some Velvet Underground and the found out, who played the indtruments for the songs.
They did show themselves on a few songs.
I think this is definitely Nico at her best. They really are a great combo on both this and the banana
Paul Weller
3/5
ok
Leftfield
2/5
Eh
Isaac Hayes
5/5
Insanely groovy. A little bit too long, but still I looved it. What's with these movie soundtracks from these amazing artists? I think it deserves a 5 despite the length
Jane Weaver
3/5
This was fiine. Nothing special, i dont think it deserves the space, but absolutely listenable. Low 3
Tina Turner
3/5
I don't really like her voice. Also, her cover of I can't stand the rain was atrocious. She really butchered the original, which is one of the best soul songs ever recorded. Looow 3
Brian Eno
3/5
This was about what I expected based on who made it, and the cover. Weird stuff, but it's amazing to hear how sampling existed even before it got mainstream.
The Replacements
4/5
This was pretty fun. Mixing couldve been better, but I’m looking forward to hearing more from them
Simply Red
3/5
Not bad at all but nothing major for me
Slayer
4/5
Eh, nothing stands out. It was fun, but very one dimensional
PJ Harvey
4/5
Have to listen to her stuff again. I dont know if i like this or the other more
The Associates
2/5
asswater
PJ Harvey
4/5
An amazing album, honestly at first I thought it's pretty close to In Utero, but by the end I guess not. Nevertheless I loved the sound of it. I find albini's production to be a little inconsistent throughout the album, but it still manages to capture the essence of each song. Did not pay that much attention to the lyrics, but what i heard was pretty damn good. So I think this is either a stroooong 4 or a low 5. I think after first listen I'm gonna give it a 4, but I JUST might change it later
Lou Reed
3/5
Lou doing his thing type shi
Paul Simon
4/5
Good stuff, but this just isnt on the level of Graceland. Low 4
Queens of the Stone Age
5/5
Maan i loved this one. Didnt think id like it this much. Loved the bass sounds. I would think this is a 4 star album but in the end i just dont have anything bad to say ab it.
Pet Shop Boys
3/5
i still really dont like 90s pop. I was vibing tho. Low3
The Electric Prunes
2/5
Didnt like it. The mix is way too soft and its just not very interesting compared to some other bands around this time.
The Mothers Of Invention
2/5
Jane's Addiction
3/5
Not really interesting for me. Think i liked the other album by them better anyway
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
5/5
SALSAAA 💃
Skunk Anansie
2/5
didnt do nothing for me
Badly Drawn Boy
3/5
All fine, but got boring by the end. Saved one song. low 3
Moby Grape
2/5
Nowhere close to the best of 1967. Sounds like everything else from the era. High 2
Traffic
3/5
Some cool country sounds, of course done much better by others. Still, i had fun. Maybe a little long for what it is, but I heard some much worse late 60s rock albums that are less interesting than this one.
Country Joe & The Fish
3/5
Fine country album. One melody was stufk in my head all day after.
Nick Drake
4/5
Solid album by him again. I like this dude’s misic. Maybe not as good as the one with the cool album art but still, loved listening to this
XTC
2/5
Not very exciting. Its okay background noise
Merle Haggard
2/5
Jean-Michel Jarre
3/5
Nothing extra
3/5
There must be better experimental jazz out there. I didnt hate it but come on. Loow 3
Grateful Dead
2/5
Had to be there. I wasn’t
Joni Mitchell
4/5
This was good but her blue album was even better. Love me some Joni Mitchell
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Maan this album is good. I would rate it a 5 just for the influence and the lyricism, but I have a standard for 5, where I only give albums a 5, that I could listen to any day. And this is a little further from my taste. I like Paul Simon’s solo stuff a little better too i think.
Supergrass
4/5
Had to listen to this twice to rate it. It’s a really fun time from start to finish. For people who can connect some memories to this one, it can definitely be a 5 star record. For me it’s a solid 4
Peter Gabriel
2/5
i did not find this interesting at all. I would not want to listen to this again. His other albums on here are much better
Stevie Wonder
4/5
So good, but I have to revisit and maybe grow some more to give it a 5
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
Maan if it wasnt for the random sex noises and questionsble lyrics…
I really dont know if I should give it a 4 or 5. If I look at the Rap Albums i have at 5, I think of all of them as flawless. This, while having some of the best Hiphop songs ever recorded, is not flawless sadly. If I could cut the weird lines, noises, Puff out of the record it would be a 10/10
Madness
2/5
Didnt really like it
Michael Jackson
5/5
Yeah, it’s a 5. Not sure if it’s his best anymore though.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
It’s an amazing album. It sounds perfect too. Still, I struggle to find songs on here that I’ll definitely come back to. Loved it, but don’t think I’ll listen to it often
Iggy Pop
4/5
Yea this is the good Iggy Pop. With the help of all the people who worked on this album. This is pretty close to a masterpiece
N.W.A.
4/5
Yeah the theme is not the best, but still. This started west coast hip hop and gave us dr dre, so there’s nothing to complain about. I dont think it’s close to the strongest record yet, so i think it’s a good 4. A few years later the chronic and doggystyle are 10/10 albums
Beastie Boys
4/5
Maybe not as good as their two next albums, but still a gooood time. Almost a 5 for me
Lynyrd Skynyrd
3/5
Free bird
Kraftwerk
5/5
This sounds so good. I don’t remember it sounding so damn crisp.
Just the right length for the whole record too. Autobahn was a little too much for me with the 10 minute songs, but this is just banger after banger. I’d say it’s the most 10/10 bleep bloop music
Ananda Shankar
3/5
I mean its pretty interesting and also well recorded. But you know most of the songs are covers thats mainly why they sound so good, so I dont think I can give it too high of a rating. This was fun, would love to listen again, but its a high 3
John Martyn
3/5
Man i dont get why ppl are hating on this guy this much. I love his vibes. That said, Solid Air is miles better in my opinion. This might just be a strong 3 for me. Maybe low 4
Willie Nelson
3/5
Pretty sounds but I’m not a sad divorced man at a country bar. Sadly?
Digital Underground
2/5
The way this started maan idk its just a weird one. High 2 I guess?
Elbow
3/5
Yeah. The mixing is pretty good, the musicians are absolutely talented and all, but still. This has so many clear inspirations that at most points I’d rather listen to the said inspirations. I bet a lot of people love this album and I can’t blame them. It sounds nice, is a complete album with nice variety. I just don’t think I have anything on here to make me come back to this ever.
David Crosby
3/5
I’m not there yet. I might love this as a 70 year old man with a long ass beard doing yoga on a sunday morning, but as I said… Not there yet.
Sounds amazing tho.
Prince
4/5
I dont think this was nearly as good as Purple Rain, or maybe even 1999. He’s great on here again of course, but I think the length is just way too much. I also don’t think it’s as coherent as some of his other projects. Loow 4
Elvis Presley
3/5
This might be one of the best albums I’ve heard from the era, at least from white guys, but maan I just can’t help but feel like all of these songs were stolen from artists, who sung it even better. I’m gonna give it a 3, because I enjoyed it, but I have a sour taste in my mouth.
3/5
mid but really uninteresting kind of mid
k.d. lang
3/5
Man I wanna go to hawaii.
Nothing very interesting to me on this one, low 3
Jeru The Damaja
3/5
I like what it did to East coast hiphop, but I can’t enjoy it as much as most of the albums that came after it. Low 3
Michael Jackson
4/5
I think Off the Wall and Thriller might be a little better, but this of course slaps
The Doors
3/5
Fun. Dont think it’s their best, in fact their record a year later is so much more of a banger.
Oasis
4/5
there are some huge bangers on this one. I like the guy’s voice. Maybe morning glory is better? This is also a mid 4 album for sure
Cocteau Twins
3/5
Heaven or LV had better songs in my opinion. This was a little too trippy for me. Absolutely beautiful soundscapes, but I need a little more to enjoy their music.
Lou Reed
4/5
This was good, but it didn’t hit hard enough. I had very high expectations for this one and the Bowie production shows, but I’d rather take at least 3 other Velvet Underground albums over this one if I was looking for some Lou Reed. I’ll give it a low 4 because I’m pretentious.
Def Leppard
3/5
I don’t want to lie and say i did not enjoy this. This genre is fun sometimes, but Glam Metal is just a weird genre to me. I had fun, so I’d give it a 4, but the machine drums, my god… I’ll definitely scratch off a point for not using real drums :(
Bad Company
3/5
If I were a dad, I’d be like hell yea.
But I’m not, so I’ll say “just the usual”
The United States Of America
3/5
Love the experimenting with a lot of different sounds. I dont think I’ll be returning, but I’m glad I listened. There’s better 60s psychedelic out there
Talk Talk
3/5
Yeah, it’s not the most interesting one for me, but I didn’t hate it at all. Low 3 i think.
Bonnie "Prince" Billy
3/5
There were many dark, depressive albums that I heard growing up that hit harder than this one and do everything better. Mount eerie/Microphones, Teen Suicide, etc. Might have to revisit tho?
Eric Clapton
3/5
Hasn’t really left a big impression on me. Was vibing with one song, but overall pretty mid
Billy Bragg
3/5
Enjoyable, but mot memorable
Beatles
4/5
I wanted to be a hater for this one really bad. I love the Beatles, but so far I never had this album in my top 3-4 records by them. It IS much better than I thought it would be. I'd still rate it maybe their 4th best, and it does have a lot of fillers, but it has to be at least a very high 4
The Cure
5/5
Man I love the Cure.
I’m probably just trying to be different, but I honestly think this is their best. Love the dark vibes of this one. Have it on a scratched Vinyl
Ghostface Killah
4/5
I was sceptical of the release date 2006, since i do not like 2000s hiphop, but I thought, hey. If anything would convince me otherwise it would be a Wu tang project. And yea, i loved most of this. Especially the first half. Some songs (bonus ones?) sound more like 2000s rap joints, but most of the record comes off more like a 90s record, which I love. Crazy rhymes, and lots of bangers.
Tim Buckley
3/5
Sounded amazing. Covers, so csnt give it. much. Mid 3. Did not hate it at all.
Sonic Youth
4/5
Schizophrenia is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded in my opinion. Altogether it’s undeniably Sonic Youth. I like their sound. I’d listen to this one any day. Still, I think they have stronger records, so it’s a strong 4 for me
John Lennon
4/5
This was a fun listen. I dont want to over-compliment the beatles at this point, but man the guy can write. Standout track: Cold Turkey which is not even on the standard album but it’s a banger
The Darkness
4/5
Had way too much fun with this one. Still never gonna look for this genre on purpose. Low 4
The Verve
2/5
So boring man. First song is of course iconic, but even that’s boring
Little Richard
4/5
Start of almost everything on this list. Good fun
Emmylou Harris
4/5
This was a pretty one 😌
Eagles
4/5
This was reeeally good. I think this is a better one than their Hotel Calironia record. It sound amazing for its age and I think there aren’t any skips on it. Want to revisit, listen again to this one.
The Psychedelic Furs
3/5
didnt hate it. Love my way is their only banger song so far and its not on this one tho. Low 3
Tangerine Dream
3/5
it’s insane that this was created when it was created but I probably will never listen to it again so it’s not getting a higher number than 3 from me
Public Image Ltd.
2/5
Was a 3 in the beginning, got down to a low 2 by the end
Dennis Wilson
3/5
Yeah you know. Pretty enjoyable, but nothing stood out
Fela Kuti
5/5
This was amazing. Loved the drum sounds throughout. Songs are a little on the longer side, but I don’t think it hurts the enjoyment of the record. Would’ve loved to experience the energy live.
Faust
3/5
Yeah, I’m weird but not this weird.
I prefer the CAN kind of Krautrock
The The
3/5
Yeah, I don’t like the genre too much. Maybe this is where it shows that I wasn’t alive during the 80s
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Didn’t have as much fun with it as Superfly, but an awesome laid-back record. (with some strong and sadly still relevant lyrics)
Beatles
3/5
This is Beatles before the beatles. Not really original at all. Some songs sound like covers too. The vocals on this one remind me a lot of Beach Boys and they definitely did it better. I want to give it a 3, but it’s still better than most 3s I’ve given out so, idk strong 3
Minor Threat
4/5
Might not be THE best hardcore punk ever, but loads of fun. Enjoyed every minute. Low 4
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
It’s a little too much Nick Cave at this point. If this album is not even in the top 10 of his based on major publications’ lists on the guy, it should not be among the 1001 best of the best
Tracy Chapman
5/5
I honestly have nothing bad to say about this one. A masterpiece
The Beta Band
3/5
I enjoyed their newer album a little more. Didn’t really find anything too interesting in this one. Loow 3
Red Snapper
3/5
Not among the trip-hop GOATs, but a solid one to work to. I’m glad this genre is pretty well represented here. Strong strong 3
Fleetwood Mac
4/5
I too expected a little more from this. Fleetwood Mac can definitely not make bad music, but this was not a focused record. Lots of way different ideas without any cohesion in sound or lyrics. Sounds amazing, some easy 10/10 songs, but altogether a mid to low 4 star
Carole King
4/5
