R.E.M.Pure 90s nostalgia
Pure 90s nostalgia
Some great tracks, some okay tracks, some awful tracks. Overall, so-so.
The only song I properly knew was Sledgehammer, although I would not have known the name of artists if asked. Very solid classic 80s album.
Feel good music, cool vibes. Fantastic start to the album, with the party acoustics. Love it.
Not a fan of the first track, but is luckily followed by golden oldies like Candle in the Wind and Bennie and the Jets. Classic Elton, and feel good vibes.
Can't go wrong with Adele. Such a fantastic album. Absolutely love it!
Just a Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody is hands down the best medley known to man. Love it!
Such a phenomenal album. Love Neil Young's voice. Kind of music that makes you want to close your eyes and just take in the lyrics and sway with the music. Unfortunately not available on Spotify, but can be streamed on other platforms.
Takes me back to my university years. Lovely. Can't believe this album is already 10 years old.
Love me some Roxy. Not my favorite Roxy Music album, but still Bryan+Brian=<3
Strong memories to my childhood. Great album that ages incredibly well.
I first heard the Isley Brothers in the OST for Jackie Brown by Tarentino. I really dig this sort of music, especially That Lady, Pts. 1 and 2 and Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 and 2 - probably because I've listened most to those tracks, but the entire album is great.
Love the Smiths, Morrissey's iconic voice and honest lyrics resonate with me. This is not my most played album of theirs, but their entire catalog is great. This collection is no less.
I feel like AC/DC should be reserved for OST scoring. I don't think I'd ever put this on deliberately. Wouldn't say it's bad, just not for me.
I like Bob Dylan, I just don't love him. The album is good for background, a couple of very familiar songs on the album, but not my favorites of his.
Good background music, but not something I would remember to intentionally put on.
Classic Lou Reed, with favorites like 'Perfect Day', 'Walk on the Wild Side' and the lovely 'Satellite of Love'.
Very unremarkable I'm afraid. Not to my taste. Not bad, just cannot remember any specific redeeming details the day after.
90s East-Side Hip-Hop, although I probably know these songs more as samples in new hip-hop. But there are classics like 'It Ain't Hard to Tell' and 'The World is Yours'. Such smooth tracks, exactly what I like best in the genre.
Basically a 45 minute guitar solo. Something to have lulling in the background.
Peter Gabriel is the first artist I get the second album in this series. Must say I like the previous entry, So, better.
I love the sound of Al Green's voice. There's nothing to fault this album. Absolutely love it.
It reminds me of a girl-Frank Ocean (in particular channel ORANGE). I've never heard of Jazmine Sullivan before, but it's an instant liking. I can see myself listen to this album again and again.
Revolutionary and iconic music!
Second Bob Dylan album, with classics such as "Tangled up in Blue" and "Shelter from the Storm". Easy listening.
Appropriate for end-of-week entry. Many fantastic tracks, but everything else is very meh! Nice dash of 80s glam rock to set me off for the weekend.
One of my first albums I owned, at age 10. I listened to this album so much. I definitely did not understand the lyrics at the time, but I know all these tracks by heart. I appreciate it even more today.
An hours worth of continuous trip hop. Not my favorite album of theirs, but good background music.
I was surprised how old this album was. I thought it would be mid-to-late 90s, instead of 1989. Few very known bangers, but otherwise not that memorable.
All these Bob Dylan albums I've heard in the past few weeks all sound the same to me. But easy listening and very familiar tracks.
Reminds me of The Royal Tenenbaums. Love it.
Takes me back to my university years. Funny how music can take you back in time.
I've had heard of Marianne Faithfull before, but I don't recall having listened to her. Pleasantly surprised, I always assumed she did a totally different genre. I like it.
Never heard of this band or album before. I don't think I will. Not a fan.
Come on Eileen seems to be a one hit wonder. The other tracks were more filler (but fun).
I really like this album.
Solid rock album.
Not my favorite album of theirs.
Serene<3
American rock - not my cup of tea.
Mostly instrumental.
I don't like all of Bob Dylan's works, but this albums is great
Kindof like a score from a musical.
Classic Rock and Roll.
Love Morrissey.
Perfect
I love seeing electro albums from 2000s on here, I have such a vivid memory from this period. I played this particular album so much, and the first few cords are instantly recognizable. And each song after the other. This was when I really loved finding and discovering new music. I haven't listened to this in a long time, but it feels like home.
Never heard of this album or artists before, but fun surprise to hear Latin music.
I preferred the previous Kraftwerk album.
Never heard of this singer before. Nice easy listening.
I'm noticing a notable harder rock theme on Fridays. I'm assuming this is not a coincidence. Generally this is not the genre for me. I know this is a well-known great album, it's just not for me.
Classic album, I've listen to this since I was a child
The most recognizable song is Peaches, which is great. But otherwise on OK album from the late 70s.
Kicks is instantly recognizable. Otherwise underwhelming
Such a distinct voice. Great album.
Okay, but by now way Bowie's best album.
Weird, I thought I had reviewed this earlier today. But it started off ok, but then didn’t keep me interested
Great lyricists, lovely album
Not very memorable
Nice southern swing to Sinatra
Nice to see a familiar face.
Love Adele.
Fine, but that's about it
Forgettable
Excellent
5/7, a perfect score
Not their best, but decent nonetheless
Just seeing the album cover takes me back. Instant nostalgia.
Excellent.
Unfortunately not available on Spotify in my region. Luckily youtube prevails. Good vibes.
Not my favourite from their catalog
Distinct sound, but not in a good way. I instantly remembered the artist from the early 2000s. I assumed “Blinded by the lights” was a one hit wonder. Surprised to see this album here.
All right, but not very memorable.
Classic punk
Old school sampling.
Beautiful voice
Fine, reminds me of a soundtracks for movies.
Lovely album.
Great sampling. I remember some of these tracks very well from the time.
Love Neil Youngs vocals.
Takes me back, but not an album I remember specifically.
Most of the songs are unavailable on Spotify (at least in my region). I don't mind it, but I wouldn't go through the trouble of accessing it elsewhere.
Excellent album. Could listen to this forever.
Classic 80s rock
Fine country.
Solid 90s hip hop
2000s type girl-punk band. Not really my style.
90s hip hop, but I prefer it more lyrical
Interesting folk rock music with an English twist. My boyfriend would really like this.
Love me some Talking Heads.
Love Karen O's voice, I used to listen to Yeah Yeah Yeahs so much during the 2010s. Takes me back.
Fine, but not my cup of tea
LCD Soundsystem always reminds me of my ex.
Really disliked this.
Love Bowie, especially his earlier work.
One of my all time favorite albums.
Not available on Spotify. Found something on youtube, but only a couple of singles. Maybe if I understood German better this might have resonated. But unfortunately didn't.
I la-la-love this kind of music, 5/7 a perfect score!
I don't remember hearing this artists name, but he songs are very familiar. Easy listening, but not exceptionally memorable.
Smooth jazz.
I prefer my hip-hop more lyrical.
Goes well in the background.
Doesn't have my favorite song of hers, Pata-Pata, but I really like this kind of music.
Not really my cup of tea. Since it's my birthday I'm going to skip over this one and play yesterday's album again instead.
I'm not a fan of Costello.
I don't care for this genre. But this makes me want to listen to Johnny Cash cover albums.
Not for me.
Couldn't wait for it to be over.
Finally songs to my taste! Such an iconic voice.
Fine, but unmemorable.
Old school late 80s hip hop. Love it.
Not my cup of tea, but not the worst I've been subject to listen on this venture.
Missing the The Weight, but otherwise fine.
I'm surprised this is from the mid 70s, I thought it was late 80s. I love Sweet Emotion.
Wish You Were Here is one of the greatest songs of all time. But I prefer lyrical Pink Floyd to their instrumental work.
One of the greatest albums of all time.
I actually listen to this album frequently. I really enjoy it. I love those African beats.
Like the live recording. Not something I'd listen to often, but has a great vibe
I love 70s Bowie. My personal favorite of this album is "Let's Spend the Night Together."
This I like.
I hate this genre. I can't put myself through listening to an entire album.
Fine, but not my style.
I used to listen to this album on repeat when it came out. Holds up well.
Nah, not my style
It's all right, but have to be in a specific mood for it
80s classic, can't help but sing along
Very dated.
Not for me.
Love this album. I've listened to this so much throughout my life. Classic.
Classic Motown.
Ok background music.
Allright.
My preferred Metallica album, but still not my cup of tea.
Groovy
Very smooth and groovy
Really like it, I have listened to them before but not realized the artist as such.
Needs more Lola
Love it
Allright, but not may thing
Iconic start.
Stands the test of time
All right, very 80s. Surprisingly many cover songs
Ok, but not for me
Just lovely.
All time favorite
Allright. But not something that really sticks out.
I prefer "Get A Grip" - but this will do for now
I preferred the last Jimi Hendrix to this one.
Allright, but too much all over the place for my taste
I prefer the cover albums
Good background music
Feels like the soundtrack for Yellowstone
Not for me.
Can't go wrong with the Smiths
Not my cup of tea
Cute, I like it.
5/7 a perfect score
This is beyond weird.
Golden oldies
Not for me
I prefer other works by the Kinks
Thanks, I hate it.
I love "The Seed (2.0)" - such a phenomenal track, and the rest of the album is superb.
Fabulous album
Talk about nostalgia. My very first school parties featured this album. Ah to be young again.
Can't go wrong with Rolling Stones.
Love the Rolling Stones. Aftermath has some of their lesser known hits, but overall still quite good.
Actually quite cute and feelgood music. Never heard it before, but I like it
Takes me back to adolescence, but just like then I don't care for it. Except for Stan, which is due to Dido.
Cat Stevens, the epitome of sweet and serene
This is so bizarre.
Classic 80s music.
Love the choral elements.
Not really my style.
Love Nick Drake's voice, so soothing and serene
Love Pixies.
Soothing.
Pure 90s
African blues music, I prefer more dance in this genre but I don't mind it.
Not for me
80s pop group that reminds me of high school balls, it's nostalgic but not something I really miss.
Not my kind of rock.
I vividly remember this bands name, but the songs themselves are not that very memorable.
Lovely 60s jazz, fine background/dinner music and then the iconic Take Five.
Lovely old school jazz
Reminds me of late 80s/90s movie soundtracks.
Love me some soul
Can't go wrong with 90s hip-hop
A little too old timey country for my taste.
I remember some of these songs, but vaguely
The album cover that was prominently placed on my Introduction to Probability and Statistics in my Bachelors degree in maths. A clever way to introduce a new generation to prog rock.
Lovely lovely ABBA.
90s grunge, fine but not for me
Now we're talking! Late 90s diva pop.
Not very memorable 90s imho
Lot of classics on this album, The Wheel's On Fire is my personal favorite - it reminds me of Ab Fab.
Happy go lucky late 60s psychedelic pop rock
I know "Our Lips are Sealed" so well through Nouvelle Vague cover albums, and I love hearing their original forms.
Not my favorite of his.
Peak 90s George Michael, one of England's most renowned singer-songwriters. Freedom! '90 is the most iconic of the album, but there are other great songs in its midst. For instance, the opening song, Praying for Time, sets the album to a great start.
I remember this album cover vividly. Supergrass is a classic 90s English alternative rock band. Alright is by far the most recognizable (of Alicia Silverstone's Clueless OST fame), and Caught by the Fuzz is also quite memorable from the era. A feelgood 90s britpop.
Pure 90s nostalgia
One of the first alternative rock bands I admired, I knew this album by heart - ah to be young again
It sounds familiar, but somehow not. But I guess I've listened to so much 80s indie Brit-pop for that to be the case
I thought this was the Presidents of the United States of America, which it definitely is not. Instead of early 90s American rock it was a late 60s experimental rock. The Garden of Earthly Delights (a nice homage to Hieronymus Bosch) is by far the most digestible. The other songs are okay, but other than tGoED I wouldn't seek out this album.
I had this album as a teenager. Beyoncé before she became Queen B. I don't think this music would hold as well it it wasn't for the massive nostalgic feels that it brings.
Not my jam
Love Simone.
Love Neil Young
This is fun and unexpected! I'm surprised this is from the early 90s. I thought this would be the '60s era. But I like the Spanish Big-Band percussions.
Except for "More than a Feeling" (which is a classic), I'd say this is not my favorite arena-rock band of the 70s
Old school Big Band.
Old timey music
Late 80s extravaganza!
Not for me.
Love this album, I listened to this album so much back in the day. Stillness in the Move is still one of my all time favorite songs.
I Love Nick Drake. The first few seconds into the first tracks are instant homecoming, so serene and lovely.
I assumed this was younger, but apparently, it's the 70s. Classic Santana
Sonic Youth peaked before my adolescence, so I vaguely remember them from the 90s. But the music's zeitgeist is familiar.
I first learned about Echo and The Bunnymen through Nouvelle Vague's rendition of "Killingmoon". But I like the old new wave style.
The cover of the album (an atomic bomb) does not indicate the content, which is a big-band style orchestra (without singing).
I only knew Layla before, but otherwise, I thought Derek & the Dominos were a one-hit-wonder. Which it kind of is. But Layla is such a legendry track.
Music of my youth. Seven Nation Army was an anthem song at the time. I had a particular affinity with the Hardest Button to Button. Great album, quintessential indie rock of the early 00s.
Bowie's ★ final album, is emotional. A stark contrast to his 70-80s glam rock. I prefer the glam, but in the right mood this would do nicely.
One of the greatest albums of all time.
This is very underwhelming. Don't really care for this.
Lovefool was one of my favorite songs growing up; it was track nr six on an Icelandic compilation CD, "Pottþétt 5" (I misremembered it as nr five, but it is pretty amazing. I almost remember that some 28years later). I'm not familiar with their other songs, but I listened to the Cardigans quite a bit through Icelandic radio, which seems not.
I remember some of these songs, but I think I remember samples of them rather than these songs as is.
I love their instrumental arrangements and soothing vocals.
In late 70s prog rock, their music has a distinctive good-times happiness air about it.
Such beautiful piano arrangements.
Old timey, 60s music. Nice change from my normal repertoire.
Oh my, that is some peak 80s fashion on the cover. But this music is not for me, very bland.
Classic early 80s (although technically late 70s)
Smoke on the Water on other timeless tracks, live version that's really great.
Love old motown music
I must admit I've not listened to too much of her newer works, but the addition of the symphony is pristine.
I like "London Calling" more but there are some quintessential punk songs like 'Police and Thieves' on this album.
Stairway to Heaven is such a timeless track.
I quite like Gainsbourg, but I guess that's partly because my French isn't good enough to realize how incestuous most of his lyrics are.
Some great tracks, some okay tracks, some awful tracks. Overall, so-so.
Songs of my youth.
Nice background music
I recognize the samples used from the album, but I don't really care for the album overall.
Some amazing tracks. Great album showcasing late 70s rock.
This is not my cup of tea. Absolutely hate this genre.
I've mostly listened to Nick Cave's earlier work, but this is also top-notch. I should listen to more of his work.
I've listened to some other De La Soul album that I liked much more, but this was kind of meh.
This album is unavailable on Spotify in my region, except for a few songs. But it's old-timey punk rock. It's not something I'd listen to myself, but it would work well in some OSTs for sure.
Very laid-back downtempo trip-hop. I quite like it.
Easy listening, I could see myself listening to this again. But this has completely gone under my radar.
I do love African beats.
To be young again. Not their best album, but good nonetheless.
I don't really care for this.
Classic 80s rock. For the right mood, it's great.
Feels futuristic.
I love Dusty. I had a massive Dusty period around the early 2000s.
Not really for me. But alright, I guess.
This is actually quite lovely happy-go-lucky 60s pop music.
Fantastic album. I used to listen to this a lot a decade ago.
Not really my cup of tea. Not bad punk per-say, just not my genre of choice.
Such an iconic opening, 'Running Up That Hill'.
I love Neil Young. It just works.
Okay psychedelic rock from the 60s
70s country. Not for me, except for Love Hurts. That's quite known and is lovely.
Manic Street Preachers are very recognizable as a 90s staple, but for the most part this is not the rock music for me.
Such a great intro, Lust of Life, is so instantly recognizable. Classic.
I wore this album out in 2012.
I guess I'm kind of fed up with the Doors.
It's allright
I like this album. I'm surprised it's over ten years old. Feels younger.
Oldschool Ramones with Blitzkrieg Bop and Judy is a Punk.
Neil can't do no wrong.
Lovely Joni Mitchell
Not my style, sorry
Kind of reminds me of Rocky Horror, but without the dancing.
Love it. I used to listen to this album on repeat.
Not for me
Alright. but I prefer my hip-hop more lyrical.
I love 'If There is Something' and its split personality. I first heard it in 2008, 'Flashbacks of a Fool' starring Daniel Craig, and I was immediately enamored.
Some of these songs are very familiar, and I've definitely heard them before. But not this version, e.g. Who do you love - pt.1 - I knew it from the OG Bo Diddly or George Thorogood's version.
Teenage angst at it best
Besides Heroes, I'm not a fan. I prefer glam rock Bowie
He's a pinball wizard. But otherwise I don't really remember listening to this before.
Pure 80s. Love the Aran sweaters on the album cover.
Kind of reminds me of late-Beatles era. But not really memorable.
Epic opening song, the instrumental 'Green Onions'.
Lovely Stevie Wonder <3
This is a folk album for my boyfriend, he listens to it all the time. Not my cup of tea, but he loves it. So I like it.
Feels like I've heard this before. But it's not really memorable; it's kind of generic 80s punk. Kind of forgettable Romones wannabe.
Ah, it has 'That's Entertainment' - old school 80s new wave.
Not for me
Smoke on the water and other prog rock tracks
Bit boring
Not available in my Spotify region, YouTube works. But it’s no loss, this album is not for me
Horrible album cover. How is this from the early 00s? It's Beach Boys Brian Wilson with absurd man-made animal sounds. How is the album on here?
Love Crosby, Stills & Nash
One of my all-time favorite albums. Such a classic. Bowie at his best!
Bit whiny for my taste.
Ah, this is the original of Parade - I knew it first from my all-time favorite Nouvelle Vague, 3rd album simply titled 3. But otherwise, it is basic UK new-age music.
I recently listened to a great podcast on Too Much Information about the movie, and I've been meaning to listen to it ever since. Perfect timing.
There are quite a few classics here, American Girl without a doubt the most famous. Late 70s American rock.
It's a great album, with classics like Thunder Road and Born to Run. Classic American Rock.
Bruce, back two back. Now, we're reaching more contemporary stuff. Although I must admit, I like the older stuff better.
Meh. not for me
Meh, not for me
Not available on spotify in my region, which is no loss. The youtube version was pretty underwhelming. Quite a few duds these past few days.
I actually quite like this album. I’ve heard some songs before but didn’t recognise the band name. Reminds me of old school American rock, but has some nice indie synth elements
I really enjoy this old school 70s American rock / country genre.
Such power and energy. Just wow!
This takes me back. The first four songs where on so many mixtapes I made back in the early 2000s. I really enjoyed hearing Filthy/Gorgeous, I've not heard that in almost 2 decades. The first time I heard Comfortably Numb was on this album, so I was very surprised to hear it was actually a cover song.
I really love the harmonies and all the unusual instruments used in their arrangements. Such a phenomenal progressive rock album.
This is so old. This is Foo Fighters' earliest album. I'm more familiar with their work almost a decade later. But you can hear their core characteristics.
I prefer his other albums. Not that it's bad, just the others are better.
