Always a little surprised at how heavy the Pixies music is. Amazing instrumentals and great song writing, but I'm still a tiny bit dissapointed. Monkey Gone to Heaven still stands out.

It was decent. Pixies music all kind of starts to sound the same to me after a few tracks, but I don't dislike it.

There's nothing that really excites me about the album. There are some okay tracks that I enjoyed listening to, but I wouldn't say any specific standouts... nothing that I think 'wow, this is an insanely influential album'. However, saying this, it also isn't my usual taste in music, so maybe after listening to some more music of this genre, I may revisit this and see if there's any change within my opinion. Favourite Tracks: Here Comes Your Man Mr. Grieves There Goes My Gun

In a move that would horrify my Pixies loving partner of 20 years if I were to tell him, which I won't, I am fairly indifferent to the Pixies. I really like Here Comes Your Man, and enjoy a number of other tracks, but in general I find it hard to get too excited about them. To my ears, this was perfectly fine. Not poor, not great. Good. 3/5

Not all bad but it felt all samey and eh

Pretty nice.

Honestly was hoping for better. The good was great but the fine was meh. Some classics in this for sure but other songs make me want to skip

Punk rock records that feels quite monotonous at the start but adds more fun in the second part. I'd highlight Dead, No 13 Baby, and Gouge Away. The latter is the only track I'd known prior to listening, and in many ways it's the brightest. I liked the guitar at times, while generally speaking, the album has a lot of tracks that were not too bright. That's why three: a decent listen, but by no means a GOAT album.

Way too loud

I liked elements of it, but felt I'd seen the elements I liked done better elsewhere

This album is not bad and I liked it better than Bossanova. Like most Pixies music it just does not click for me at all.

Some of this is really good but some of it needed to Doolittle more

Good album, traditional rock sound. 6.3/10

I kind of wish I enjoyed this more. Feels like an album cool people would enjoy. But there is a lot of moments that just don't grab me, honestly. It's often messy and not in a very flattering way, feels cluttered instrumentally. The vocalist is also kind of annoying on the opener or other songs like I Bleed. In Dead the vocals are way too buried in the mix and don't sound good at all. The song Silver feels really sloppy and awkward and is a weird detour for the band. There is some songs that I like, be that Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone to Heaven or Hey, but overall the album is way too inconsistent and flawed.

This is a great record, and one of the first that allowed me (a devoted ROCKER) to enjoy pop without feeling guilty. Mostly solid songs, with too much credit given to Frank Black. The Breeders showed how much Kim Deal was bringing to the party.

Loud and proud. Wasn’t into the Pixies too much back then, but I see the appeal and enjoyed this one.

Quite sporadic but a few good tunes in it

I Enjoyed it, more interesting, continius whitout my style, but this one was better

Wasn’t entirely my style. So it was OK. The later songs I think we’re better. I’ll give you like a three out of five

Great beats and grungy tone. Kept 1 song

A solid alternative rock album that was a clear jumping off point for so many other artists. The cleaner production style to earlier Pixie's albums works especially well in the singles. The "loud/quiet/loud" style is something I've enjoyed, and I'm happy to have a name for it now. Such a simple and effective way to add dynamics to a song. Here Comes Your Man Monkey Gone To Heaven Hey

I liked this album enough to probably keep it in my library. A couple songs made it to my favorites playlist. Basic punk rock stuff.

Well it’s not boring at least There are some really good songs on here (here comes your man, monkey gone to heaven), and the you have songs that are actually unlistenable (like tame). The vocals are absolutely not my cup of tea, ranging from just ok to ear bleeding. The instrumention’s actually really cool, love some of the baselines and I think they do a lot of cool stuff with tempo and volume (even if that comes at the cost of blowing out your eardrums since you’re using headphones) I can tell this influenced a TON of modern rock (especially smashing pumpkins and nirvana), and I do think they have such a unique sound, but I’m pretty confident I’ll never listen to this one again. I was really close to turning off the album after the second song because it really was that bad, so I’m glad I got through it at least

It's alright. I think there were some decent snippets in there, but ultimately, it's just a little too loud and rough for my ears.

?? mhh ja die pixies dunno...c

The Pixies go for more pop song craft on this release which I think works for them, from the catchy Debaser to the spaghetti western Silver there is quite a range on this album. Good fun.

Like it, but not as much as Surfa Rosa!

It’s Pixies—which means Doolittle turns warped instincts into near-pop perfection, bottling the band’s loud-quiet-loud dynamics into something sharp, sticky, and just unhinged enough. Black Francis yelps about surrealism and apocalypse like they’re Top 40 concerns, while Kim Deal’s buoyant bass and Joey Santiago’s jagged guitar keep everything hovering between melody and mayhem. “Debaser” and “Wave of Mutilation” are delightfully twisted earworms, “Here Comes Your Man” is cracked-mirror radio bait, and “Monkey Gone to Heaven” and “Gouge Away” lean into biblical grandeur with bite. Even “I Bleed,” all chunky crunch, hints at the power-pop blueprint Weezer would later polish on the Blue Album. The beauty of Doolittle isn’t perfection—it’s the friction.

I can see why people like them The catchier songs I found myself liking and jamming with more than the heavier ones Not too bad

Yeh some good tunes, most my favourites aren't on this though

a lil alt rock album, recognized the song “here comes your man”; a good listen.

After Surfer Rosa and now Doolittle I feel like it's safe to say that I enjoy, but I don't love Pixies. There's some really fantastic songs scattered across these albums and I'll definitely be revisiting so maybe it'll grow on me more

A pretty decent listen some good songs on here and so I didn't like so much so probably a low 3 star overall, standout songs 'here comes your man' and 'monkey gone to heaven'

Slightly chaotic.

I liked it more than I thought I would....closer to a 4 than a 2.

2.5 Stars - Just not into it. A few good songs, but nothing I'm necessarily drawn back to.

I really liked Here Comes Your Man, Wave of Mutilation, and Monkey Gone To Heaven. These songs made it onto my playlist. This album is very abstract with theme. Some songs are about a mixture of things. This album may need a second listen from me so I can fully understand it.

Doolittle offers an interesting alternative sound, based on the contrast between accessible melodies and more aggressive moments, sometimes more intense than my personal taste. The album is reminiscent of the influence that the Pixies had on the later alternative scene, especially on the band Nirvana, through the dynamic between silence and sonic explosion. "Here Comes Your Man" and "La La Love You" stand out for their accessibility and melody, being the most memorable songs on the album. Overall, the album has a distinct and influential style, even if some moments may seem overly aggressive to listeners more oriented to the melody. 6.5/10

Album is ok. doesnt move the needle either way for me.

What a bizarre band! U didn't know what to do with this. The drums r great. The guitar is unique. The bass is pronounced and different. The singing, if I can call it at, is so off the wall. This band is so different that they deserve to be in the list, this just isn't something I would listen to often. It does give me better perspective on Weird Al's "First World Problems" which parodies the Pixies haha.

Average

I’ve heard some of their stuff before and there are some songs I do like. However, the only good song on this one that I like is here comes the man. All in all a very average album.

The first album of the week...alright then. It was a bunch of yelling for me, and I usually like songs like that but it just...wasn't hitting for me. I loved Silver so much though because it reminded me of Fleet Foxes.

7.5 / 10

I was pretty good. I enjoyed the variety of types of musics and sounds. I probably found 2-3 songs I would add to a playlist. Good first album and I might look more into the pixies in the future

Starts out a bit eh, improves as the album goes on. The last few songs are what elevate this album from a 2 to a 3 I understand that this is one of those "influential" albums that led to a number of grungey offshoots in the 90s (nirvana, pearl jam, etc), however it doesn't hold up well in the 2020s, particularly because all of those bands in the 90s emulated the pixies's sound and were a step better

I've listened to this album I don't know how many times over the past couple of decades, and it doesn't do it for me. I understand the importance and the influence of it, I can appreciate how effortlessly the Pixies move between styles, the dark humour and absurdity of the lyrics, their competence as songwriters and musicians, but I don't connect with it. I wasn't excited seeing Doolittle come up as today's pick; while listening to it, other than Monkey Gone to Heaven, there was nothing that I was super excited to hear, nothing that I wanted to put on repeat. I've given The Pixies more than a fair shake over the years, their music just isn't for me.

What a start to an album! Not sure the rest matched up but songs and music were interesting at least and raw.

it was fine enough grew on me kinda like 7/10

I definitely liked this more than Surfer Rosa, but to be honest I just think Frank Black is kind of annoying. He has his moments to be sure, but there's so much that he's doing that I just don't enjoy at all, and it kinda drags the music down for me. Favorites: Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Mr. Grieves

Rating 6/10

Me gustó mucho para trabajar o para disfrutarlo when you’re just chilling. TENGO QUE ESCUCHARLO MÁS VECES PARA ENAMORARME COMPLETAMENTE. Mi canción favorita del álbum es Monkey Gone to Heaven.

Not my thing - I get why people like it but i wouldn’t re listen

3/5 I already knew Here Comes Your Man before listening, so I was very surprised by the vibe the rest of the album had as it was vastly different! A lot of character across the album for sure, just not sure if I really enjoyed it.

Listened in the car on the way to the airport and of where I could hear there was early getting influence. I'll listen again to hear more of the lyrics

Doolittle is one of those albums that I respect more than I genuinely enjoy. It’s not exactly my cup of tea, but I completely understand why it’s become such a sacred text in alternative rock history. The record lives in that constant tension between catchy, almost pop-leaning melodies and moments that feel like being shouted at by a deranged preacher. Sometimes it flows; other times it just yells, and very deliberately so. Lyrically, it’s mostly grim, uncomfortable, and borderline grotesque. But that’s clearly the point. The songs seem to revel in unease, surreal violence, and general weirdness, and the ugliness is part of the charm. Doolittle doesn’t try to seduce you on first listen; it sort of pushes you away. This is very much an acquired taste kind of album: the first time through, you’re unlikely to fall in love, but slowly it starts to grow in you. One day you realize you know half the tracklist by heart, and not long after that, it’s somehow ended up in your collection. I listened to the MFSL SACD 2033 version, which is a solid master with good dynamic range, though that quality isn’t always obvious, since the album’s whole aesthetic leans toward a raw, abrasive, scratchy sound. Polishing it too much would probably miss the point anyway. This is music that’s meant to feel slightly uncomfortable, like it’s always on the verge of falling apart. All things considered, I admire Doolittle more than I love it. It’s influential, distinctive, and undeniably effective at what it sets out to do, but it still doesn’t fully click with me. 6.5/10 (as of today, first hearing ever)

Interesting, and quite cheerful, but I didn't find one single song that I would listen to often.

Ihan ok. Pitäisi kuunnella uudestaan. 2,5/5.

Super 80s.. No doubt about it.

I expected it to blow my socks off, but it was just ok. I still enjoyed myself, just that I can't recall much.

Would give this a 3.5 rating, I liked some of the songs but didn’t really vibe with it that much

Exceptuando unas cuantas canciones , el álbum no necesariamente me encantó. Tendría que escucharlo de nuevo.

I have never heard of Doolittle. I hear the inspirations they generated into the 90s. In fact a Nirvana song auto played after this album and you can definitely hear the influence. Overall I enjoyed it. It wasn't mind blowing for me but I could listen to it again without a problem.

Some decent songs. Some I would definitely skip. Dad rock. Good considering the year of release

There's some good melodic crunchy guitar rock here. There's also a good sized helping of what seems to be noise for noises sake. Not my thing, but there were a couple of solid tunes.

Not too bad, probably better hearing it for the first time when it came out.

Love it

7/10 cool album with some fun songs, nothing that rlly drew my attention tho

how have i never heard any of these songs before??? ... <THAT WAS WRITTEN LIKE 3 SONGS IN BUT THE INTRO TO HERE COMES YOUR MAN IS SO RECOGNISABLE???- bit repetitive- i really like dead and monkey gone to heaven as well as these song names fr. 10/10 six seven reference in monkey gone to heaven AND the album cover btw. the next few songs arent as good icl. anddd first album complete! it picked up at bit towards the end overall i enjoyed this album :)

I know the Pixies were very influential to the grunge scene (Kurt Cobain was a big fan for example), but I never really gave them much of a listen. This album is great, and you can certainly hear the proto-grunge sound… but also a lot of other interesting styles as well. It’s not just a loud grunge record. It’s very poppy in places, but not in a pandering or obnoxious way. It’s really good, I liked it and I definitely want to dig into more of their catalog.

A bit different from my usual taste, but a groovy album with good beats.

Couple of good songs.

ne znam

Mostly due to Here Comes Your Man

Better than Surfer Rosa but I just don’t like the band and the vocals.

liked two songs

My rating 3.5

It felt a lot longer than it actually was. It was fine just not my taste. Here comes your man was cute though

If it wasn't for Monkey's Gone to Heaven, which I really like, I'd have given this a 2. The rest of the album is pretty poor.

I can imagine this album being well received at the time as it's probably one of the best of its type. For me, with the benefit of knowing music before and after this era, I'm not hearing anything too innovative or memorable.

Is aight

I’m always vexed when an album by a band ends up on here but it’s not their best album. That’s the case with Doolittle. It’s good but not that good.

Lots of good guitar, especially in the beginning songs. Had some solid songs in there that I wouldn’t mind listening to, but also some songs in there that I never want to hear again. Overall just not really my style of music

Grunge, not really my thing but it wasn’t all bad. Listened to it twice and it was good for what it was.

Giving 2020 grunge but not in a bad way. Not really my taste, but not bad. “Where is my mind” was their peak tho.

Just not really my style

Pretty good. Reminds me of Courtney Love. Very 90s but great for a car ride or walk.

I can really see how the strokes and weezer were influenced by their style - sounds like the basics of indie rock sounds. And to think that they started this sound in the late 80's is kinda wild because this sort of vibe probably only took off in the early 2000s. Kinda lengthy though.

Familiar elements in the modern punk I’ve listened too so there some respect as helping to define the genre

Fun! ★★★

Amazingly I’m coming to this for the first time….Pixies were not my thing back in the 80s. I know here comes your man, but that’s it. First listen, vocals are buried in the mix at times which is frustrating. Nice to hear an 80s record with natural sounding drums. Can hear the genesis of quite of lot of music I do like (Radiohead etc), but weirdly not a massive fan on this. 3 for now. Suspect on repeat listens I’ll fall for it though…

Good album

Not a keeper. There is one or two decent tracks. More grungy than I like.

🥇here comes your man 🥈wave of mutilation 🥉no 13 baby (specifically the last 1:50 of instrumental) HM: la la love you, there goes my gun, gouge away

great, some parts (mostly in the first two songs) were a bit too alternative for me but i liked many songs by themselves but mostly the album as a whole. i get why the songs that are more popular are this way, i especially liked Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone to Heaven and Wave of Mutilation but i'm sure if i listen to it again i find a few others that i like the same (also six seven mentioned, crazy).

i have mixed feelings on this one. some songs i really liked, others i really was not a fan of (to the point i couldn't even finish the song), and others though they weren't necessarily my taste i can see how other people would like them. my favourite tracks were: here comes you man, wave of mutilation, monkey gone to heaven and la la love you. my least favourite tracks were: debaser, tame and crackity jones. overall i think i would give it 5/10 or possibly 6/10 at a push. this is because i prefer slower, more melodic songs whereas a lot of the songs on this album were quite loud and fast and screamy. however, i can appreciate that this is a well made album with some tunes on it.

A lot of skips and several really good songs, too

Likeable. Has ramshackle charm. But the vibe is much too "on drugs" than I will ever be comfortable being myself, and after a while it grows tiresome. The final stretch is strong though so they pull it through!

Not that bad

Wasn't as punk as I was expecting - not that I didn't enjoy it though

--Debaser...like the guitar. a little too chaotic for me --Tame...this must be the dynamic range Pixies fans are always talking about --Wave of Mutilation...I like the song but Francis' voice is oddly low in the mix. Much lower than tracks one and two. I imagine this was a deliberate choice I just can't imagine why --I Bleed...not a fan of this one. the chaos is back --Here Comes Your Man...fun change of pace. sunny surfy pop --Dead...proto-White Stripes --Monkey Gone to Heaven...love some good numerology rock --Mr. Grieves...like the bass groove --Crackity Jones...like the speed of this one --La La Love You...different singer? it's fine --No. 13 Baby...I'm kinda miffed that this isn't the 13th track. this just kind of meanders --There Goes My Gun...things are melting together now --Hey...I don't hate this but it almost sounds like an improv jam until the chorus --Silver...slide guitar time --Gouge Away...a lesser "Wave of Mutilation" mixed with a bit of "Debaser"

This does very little for me. There’s nothing on the album that I’d like to come back to, and no situation where I see myself listening to this again. That said, it’s not wretched or irritating.

Meh! The album is OK, but it just doesn't do it for me.

It was ok

6/10 - I get it. I can see and hear the influence of future bands that I like, I just never find myself wanting to relisten to anything other than Debaser.

i liked this album, but it fell flat in the middle. i thought it was decent, but there were only really four or five songs that stood out to me. maybe i just cant get that used to the dudes voice

Not bad. I liked this one better than the other Pixies album on this list. 3,4/5

Actually like this better than Surfer Rosa, haven’t heard many of these before

If I could give this negative stars I would

It was OK.

Interesting album. Felt like I was going back and forth with this one, is it good is it not good? So many different types of songs with the pixies undertones in all of them. I think certain songs are good in their own right, to the right person, but I can’t admit I love everything on here. Still, a lot to like with some of the songs on here.

not for me

Good album

The Pixies are a blind spot for me, especially as an alternative fan, and I wish I liked this more but was a little disappointed. It's good, with some high highs, but very hit and miss. Just wasn't that into the lyrics/singing as a whole.

For all del.

ibland lite väl skrikigt? men några bangers

7/10 - this is pretty cool, a variety of songs, definitely will be listening to this again

You can hear the influence the Pixies have in so much music that follows them. The grunge scene couldn’t be what it was without Pixies.

Abrasive rock, with aggressive vocals. I can see myself liking it in the future, but not now

Pretty good all things considered, but not a solid 4.

2.5, listened to it once before and hated it. not bad, some vocal segments remind me of morrisey or lou reed. others.. not so much.

Ok so it’s definitely not bad. Maybe it was more revolutionary in the 80s but as of today it sounds like nothing special.

Bit raucous but cool

Considering my typical taste in music I’m surprised to say that I found this too screamy at times. Also, if you told me this was made 10 years before it was actually released, then I’d believe the comments about the sound being ahead of its time. Overall not a bad album. I’d rate above a 3, but not enough to be a 4.

It’s the monkey album! Fav tracks Debaser and Monkey Gone to Heaven. Sometimes sounds too perfect but lacks some kind of final emotional drive that would click for me fully.

Bringing it back to my youth, and Here Comes Your Man on MTV times, but Wave Of Mutilation was my anthem

I don't always love the Pixies, but there's some good tracks here. Some of the known singles are enjoyable, and generally I think their rock riffs are strong. OK, wait, Silver is great. Making a Western/country song for this album is out of left field but really, really cool. Overall, feels like a decent-to-good middle of the road album for me.

It was a good listen. Nothing ground breaking, but Black Francis has a great voice, as does Kim Deel. Would listen again.

I liked this way more than the other Pixies album that was on this list. This one felt cohesive, more mature, less experimental but still pretty unique. I’d put it on again for a vibe

This is quite a rebound from 1988’s Surfer Rosa. Outside of “Where Is My Mind?”, that album is a pretty abrasive record. Clearly Pixies learned their lesson and shifted a little more to the center here (or they just grew up a little more, who knows). If "Where is My Mind?" was a pop-leaning outlier on Surfer Rosa, then "Here Comes Your Man" is Doolittle's unabashed attempt to storm the mainstream. Where as WIMM? is arguably the saving grace of Surfer Rosa, HCYM feels like the pockmark on an otherwise pretty lovely pre-grunge record. Songs like "Debaser", "Monkey Gone To Heaven", and "Hey" would have been plenty to anchor this record had it been released in the Grunge(TM) era. I guess that’s the pitfall of being ahead of your time. Based on the album art, Pixies seemed to know "Monkey Gone To Heaven" was the track to hang their hat on and I'd have to agree. On my “Bands That Influenced Nirvana” list, Surfer Rosa put Pixies well below Fugazi, but this record might pull them even. Still can’t compare to The Shaggs though! Other call-outs: "I Bleed" - imagine being a diehard Weezer fan, then you hear this and find out your whole life is a lie. "There Goes My Gun" - it’s like they said 'let's redo "Here Comes Your Man" but more punk and make the harmonies bad. Yeah, that'll show 'em!' "Silver" - when you only have 36min of material recorded, I guess you let Kim channel her inner Yoko Ono to write an extra filler track.

Pretty okay

I enjoy some of theses songs, but on the whole just an okay album.

One of those artists that should be right up my alley, but just doesn't click with me for whatever reason.

Good album but it does drag on a bit

Liked this but felt it dragged on the b-side. Can see how it influenced every band in the 90s and onwards in one of my favourite genres (slacker indie), I have to give it a lot of credit for that but I also don't feel as connected to this as I do to the bands that ripped it off.

This album had pockets of songs that I thought were good, and others that were fine. I liked the opening songs and closing songs groups the best. Here Comes Your Man is a song I already liked a lot, and it fit in well. The rest wasn't bad, but didn't catch my interest as much. The music/instrumentation was probably the best part to me. Even if the guitar felt a little harsh, it ended up resulting in a cool sound with the rest of the band. It was very punk, indie, garage rock in style. There were even parts that had a country-ish sound. The vocals fit the mix well, but weren't particularly impressive. Coming together as a whole, the album had a much more 90s sound than 80s. I'm guessing it helped usher in that sound for the coming decade. The main weakness for me was the lack of diversity in tone for the majority of the songs, which became more noticeable as it went given the album has 15 tracks on it. The one that stood out the most to me was the penultimate track Silver, having more of a folk/country feel. That shift was probably why I liked the track as much as I did. Some of the others got a little lost. I found the album to be solidly good on the whole. Worth a listen for sure, and there are some memorable songs on there. Overall: 3.3/5

It's kinda funny: I get that this is an influencial album. Yes, I can hear some of it in the songs of my favorite artists, but I can't say I enjoyed this. The instrumentals were incredible. 3.5 ⭐

3.5 ξανά here comes your man

not a fan of Pixies

I like them

Aggressive yet poppy alt punk album with creative catchy songwriting.

I had heard a couple of these songs. Not really my jam.

Whatever. “Charles” is a dick and Kim Deal is a saint. I suppose I understand why people love this band but if I’m comparing Frank Black to Bob Mould, it’s going to be Bob every single time.

I've always struggled to get this band, but this album opened a door. Can't say I loved it, exactly, but I think I'm coming around.

I may need to revisit this one. Frankly, I thought it was okay -- for whatever reason, the sort of eye-opening epiphany "Surfer Rosa" brought me just wasn't present here, and it just felt simpler, noisier, and less put together. I get the argument that they perfected alt-rock here, but maybe that's just not up my alley. Not a final rating. Fave songs: - Tame - I Bleed - Here Comes Your Man - Monkey Gone to Heaven - La La Love You - No 13 Baby - Hey

A little more weird than I'm in the mood for, but like some of what's going on. Guitar work is great, some the vocals I don't like. 3/5

Some classic singles/tracks I know and love (Debaser, Here comes your man). I don't love the rest of it...

I liked quite a few songs, but the album didn't quite hit the nail on the head.

This was good. I would listen to more albums by this group.

Favs: Debaser, Wave of Mutilation, Gouge Away

Decent album enjoyed - really like the song Monkey gone to heaven

I can definitely hear the influence this album/band had on 90s rock and grunge. I respect that they made some pretty bold choices within this record—definitely interesting sounds. However interesting it was, a lot of the choices missed. There were moments on this record, especially towards the end, that I actually really enjoyed. There was a decent mix of challenging and accessible music on this record. 5-5.5/10 I am open to another listen on this one, and perhaps it would grow on me. Standouts: Hey Gouge Away

Second half was good

Some classic tracks. Too much average messing around.

Um, it had a good beat, but it was a bit too much for my tastes today.

Only knew 1 Pixies song before this so didn't know what to expect, it was an interesting listen for sure. I'm new to the quiet/loud dynamic, it was interesting not in a bad or good way, music was tight and interesting and definitely set up the 90's sound. Overall enjoyed the listen but not my tops

Enjoyable listen.

1. Debaser - 5 Okay opening track. Vocals don't sound great on it but the guitar on it is awesome as are the drums. 2. Tame - 6 Carbon copy the problems with Debaser I have on this track as well. It's just slightly better sounding. 3. Wave Of Mutilation - 10 Solid track. Great vocals and even better instruments. A classic. 4. I Bleed - 7 What alt rock should be in a track. Lyrically it's not the strongest. Vocally it's not the strongest... but it does the trick. Instrumentally it scratches the itch for rock with a good sound and tone changes in the vocal are right on brand. Enjoyable. 5. Here Comes Your Man - 6 It's not a bad track by any stretch of the imagination but it is a bit like a Beach Boys track and I am not a fan of that style of rock. Slightly too bubblegum pop for me. 6. Dead - 2 Just an awful sounding song. Lyrically just as poor. 7. Monkey Gone to Heaven - 6 Opening verse is horrendous and the chorus is too repetitive but otherwise it is alright. 8. Mr. Grieves - 11 All time classic. Was a baseball staple for me growing up. Instrumentally brilliant, the vocal range and variety is fantastic. Definitely a song you will be belting out. 9. Crackity Jones - 10 Lyrics are so random but the sound is so excellent and it's just a great track overall to absolutely let go and jam to. Brilliant track. 10. La La Love You - 5 Lyrically very weak. Sound is otherwise enjoyable but it's a bit of a pass over track. 11. No 13 Baby - 5 Vocally sounds horrible at times. Instrumentally pretty decent especially the guitars on the end of the song that eventually fade out. 12. There Goes My Gun - 4 Instrumentally but the title of the track is basically the only lyrics repeated endlessly. Not great. 13. Hey - 9 At times this track threatens to lose me but overall the sound of the instruments are fantastic. The lead guitar is absolutely out of this world. Lyrically it could a lot better but it's not the worst. Very enjoyable overall. 14. Silver - 4 Vocally very unpleasant. Can't even make out the lyrics. Amazing guitar riff right at the end as the fade out begins. 15. Gouge Away - 7 Decent track. Amazing guitar sound on it makes this track quite a great sound. Lyrically it's enjoyable as well. Solid ending to the album. Average Rating: 6.47 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 3.23 Rounded Down: 3 Stars

Largely enjoyable. I appreciate the punk influence in this one, sometimes I wish it was less though. A few saves, a decent album, but nothing to write home about for me.

Decent rock album. If I wanted to listen to something hard rock/hard alternative, I would definitely choose this album

People went mad for this. One or two good songs at best.

Totally fine, again perhaps they pioneered this sound or something, but it wasn't really interesting to me

Nothing standout

He screams a lot. But I love the Deal sisters. So, I approve.

Doolittle is full of catchy and quirky hooks, though its wild, chaotic moments can feel a bit overwhelming at times. Less shouting, more singing

Monday-Blues hets nur zueglah dasis id Helfti vom Album geschafft han und ich glaube wär de Monday-Blues ned so Monday-Bluesig gsi hettis no biz meh abgfiired wie jetzt. Aber trotzdem 3 Arztzügnis vom Dr. Doolittle wert

I'm sure I listened to this album yesterday, I have clear memories of hearing music and lyrics and that it was alright. I just have basically no memory of what that music was or what the songs were about Standouts - 3/5

It's got some good songs on here, but it feels more like a collection of random tracks they put together than a thought out album.

Better than doves, would listen again

Not my thing

At least better than Nirvana

Unhinged at times, and laid back at others. All the songs have played at my local pub for ages.

No me gusta del todo, pero, bueno. ...

Hey, I’m more alternative than most people, but these guys aren’t really very good. Reminds me of the Cure… a couple of hits for the radio stations, and somehow they become pioneers of Alt? Naw, it’s slow, average and noisy.

It had some nostalgic sounds without actually having a song I recognized. 6/10

I bet these guys were fun to see live

Pretty great listen Really short album but I think that enhanced the good on it Great vocals

listened to this one on an evening walk. this site gave me probably the most ideal genre of music for this occasion. there wasnt any particular melody that would stick with me anyhow personal, it was more like the whole oldie vibe that i enjoyed. in my eyes, nothing that special (sorry pixies fans), but i can imagine that if i found this band a few years ago and started listening to them on a more personal level, i would get into it more.

So nostalgic, as this is all I listened to in high school. I was surprised to find it wasn't for me anymore.

shit had me wondering where my mind was n shit

Has never been my fave of this style of music but still as fun as a barrel of monkeys, though my personal musical biases make me want less of the atonal stuff and more the frickin TUNES brother Fav song: Debaser

Samey first half full of hits, great second half - loud and weird!

easy listening

I feel pretty similar about this Pixies as with the last album we had: good first half, but poor second half. Debaser, Wave Of Mutilation, Here Comes Your Man, and Monkey Gone To Heaven were highlights for me, but then I failed to like much afterwards. Another High 3.

Kinda started like 😩😩😩 But then ended like 😫😫😫

3/5 It's a quirky and unique album, and it feels like the kind of album I should like more, but it just didn't hook me. Fave song: Monkey gone to Heaven

Decent

Singer seems perpetually high but some good songs

gave this one two listens, i like the aesthetics at face value and the imagery some of the lyrics invoke, but overall musically not that huge to me. interesting that it inspired smells like teen spirit. here comes the man is really different than the rest of the album, oddly very similar guitar lick to sugar sugar by the archies. a little screamy for me!

Before Nirvana, there was Pixies, and their breakthrough album Doolittle would inspire everyone that picked up a guitar, especially the rock bands of the 90s, like Nirvana, Radiohead, Weezer, Pavement.

Alright, lots of yelling

Yeah they're alright, but I prefer Surfer Rosa.

Turns out I can only handle so much Pixirs. I liked this more than Surfer Rosa and knew more of it but some of it didn't quite stick. Probably a 4 with more listens.

It’s fine

Good music, just for a different audience

Some songs good, overall not my vibe perchance. Probably gets better on a relisten.

nice to listen to, good rhythm

I must say I was surprised to see this album rating average 3.74 (at time of writing). I thought it was "ok". Nothing special. But not terrible, The one thing that did get on my tits though is using the lyric "I don't mean maybe" to rhyme with baby. Fucking annoys me, that. Lose a mark.

Didn’t know The Beach Boys had this in them

Super tight album with short tracks. There's absolutely no filler. I like almost all of this, but the vocals and lyrics really do not work for me.

I wish i loved pixies. Something about the production is kinda dull. All the instrumentals also? No amount of wacky voice makes these that interesting to me. I do appreciate the cultural impact maybe but ehh

this made me realize that i actually do care about production, and how things are mixed together, i don't dislike but also ugh i wish there was a pixies cover band that did pixies better than pixies

I liked the radio songs but a lot was too screamy for me

Enjoyed the album overall. 3.5/5

This is an album I enjoyed when it was released. Either I’m having a bad day, or I’ve lost my interest in most of these songs. Just not as good now as I recalled.

Generally a great album, with a fair amount of strange quirks, sound effects, and vocal performances that make me question my sanity. Standout tracks are: “Debaser” and “La La Love You”

Interesting album, but it didn't have a song that gave me that wow feeling.

Have heard a lot about the Pixies in my music circles. And this will be my first deep dive into the band, not overly my cup of tea, but there was one or two that I listened to twice.

good but nothing memorable

Pretty respectable album, no real low points. Didn't feel like there were any big bangers though

Great grunge

Lite skrikig. Någon bra låt. Inte riktigt bra men inte heller dåligt

it's okay

Rock raro, alguna cancion esa guay.

I still don't get what people see in Pixies. This was fine I guess, but surprisingly forgettable (especially as I think I've probably listened to this album four times now in my life, and still forget that every time I listen to it "for the first time"). I do like Debaser, but that's about it.

I get the hype, but it's not for me

I have listened to this album several times, and yet, everytime, it fails to stick with me, and I do not have any idea why. This album is both chaotic and calm. Songs like 'Debaser' and 'Tame' features the singer screaming and dissonant guitars while other tracks like 'He comes Your Man' or 'Hey' are more pop rock inspire. Despite the experimentation, the mix of genres and the unique personality, I always leave feeling almost nothing.

High energy and pep. The overdriven guitars and consistent bass really give off the classic alternative rock vibes, maybe even slightly punk influences in there. I like the duality between the male and female vocals, especially when they directly are playing off of one another. I do wish the songs were a bit longer, it feels like by the time I get familiar with the song the next begins. Some of the ideas could have been elaborated further. I think in the end though, the album felt pretty repetitive and a little uninteresting.

Lekker hoor!

Another meh album

Got some good stuff but pixies deep cuts are meh

I always had the impression that I didn't like Pixies but listening to this I feel they are a better band than I thought. I think the issue is that the first tracks are very stereotypical post punk and not that interesting. But once you get into Here comes your man and the tracks that succeed it you can appreciate that they are innovative.

I enjoy hearing demos and comparing them to what eventually is released but you can take it too far. I mean if the artist(s) wanted to release the 'demo' then why not?

Enjoyed the music but may not make it into my regular rotation at this time. First time listening but may not be the last!

- songs are quite short - love the references to songs in the cover (monkey gone to heaven + no 13 baby) - crackity jones is crazy and it kinda feels like a maneskin song - i like the drums and the guitar in la la love you but the song is kinda weird he sounds like morrissey in some parts - really good guitar in general - fav songs : here comes your man, hey, mr grieves, no 13 baby, gouge away

"Doolittle" é um disco meio termo. Acho que está na lista mais pela influência que teve em outras bandas e no rock alternativo em geral do que pela sua qualidade. É um álbum inconsistente, com boas músicas como "Gouge Away" e outras menos inspiradas.

Didn’t enjoy this much at all on first listen. Thinking I just don’t like this style of music. Will be interesting to see if any other albums in this genre connect for me. Just noises After second listen this grew on me much more. The energy was infectious

You can really hear the influence this record had on many others. It's a good album, but I can't say that I was starstruck.

Pienellä totuttelulla tykättävissä

Already listened. An alright decent low 7, but the lack of the sloppiness found on Surfer Rosa took away some charm.

A collage of whatever they found interesting. Fun but a bit of a mess.

Pretty good listen. Was a band I really didn’t pay attention to.

Like sonic youth, I always feel like I should like the pixies more than I do and this album is cited as one of the all time greats. There are some great songs in here but I’m never excited to put it on. I’ll give it a 3 because i know it is important and paved the way for many bands I love.

Great album 3.5/5

Decent indie rock

I like grunge/alt rock and the band in general, but this album just isn't very memorable. Even the most popular songs in the album are kinda forgettable, even though they're pretty good to listen to in the moment.

Where is my mind is a classic and gigantic is a new favourite. Not sure the unpolished parts are intentional or not which would make it better if they werent

Chill slightly angsty album. Overall solid, but nothing crazy in my opinion.

Alternative punkish rock. Not bad. A few songs I had some nostalgia for because they were in games I had growing up. The rest was just okay.

Cool album for sure, I appreciate all the songs in general that weird vibe from the Pixies is awesome ! I particularly liked "Crackito Jones" for the song and the name.

Sick cover Singer likes screaming it seems, don't really resonate with tha Here comes your man - Earworm!!! Having a good time in general!! 3.5

Wasn't keen

For every stellar “Hear Comes Your Man”, “Monkey Gone To Heaven” and “Gouge Away”, there is throwaway filler like “Dead”, “Crackity Jones” and “Silver”. Also, Black Francis’s weird singing style gets old.

generic

I can see it being a predecessor to a lot of grunge, and it seems to be one of the first dynamics albums. It didn’t grip me, the pixies never really have. But I like a few songs!

-i’ve been waiting to listen to this one for a while now.. probably my favorite of the Pixies albums I’ve heard so far. I really like Black Francis’ voice and that guitar…. holyshit… -very impressed by the musical variety and obvious influence on alt rock. 3.5 stars for now but could prob move up to 4 -Favorites are Debaser, Here Comes Your Man, and Gouge Away

Debaser is great but i wasn't so keen on most of the others?

Solid album.

The only track I heard from The Pixies was “Where is my Mind” so it was cool to explore an album from them. Found it to be a really cool rock album. Felt punky, angsty, and a bit grungy too. I read that Kurt Cobain was heavily inspired by them so it was cool to hear some of the inspiration. Favourites included “Here Comes Your Man”, “Monkey Goes to Heaven”, “Wave of Mutilation”, “La La Love You”, and “Hey”

Not my genre, however I enjoyed listening to it. Hard but not to screamy. 3.5.

3/5 Ihan kivaa kuunneltavaa.

The music itself wasn’t bad, just not particularly my style. Only three good songs out of the whole album I’d relisten too.

Hadde bare hørt Wave of Mutilation før, som eg egentlig ikkje like så godt, men ikkje så dårlig heller forsåvidt

1989? I had no idea this was pre-90s so I have to give Pixies a lot of credit for being obviously pioneers. Pixies is another band I feel like I "should" like, but they just don't do anything for me, unfortunately - including when I saw them live - so this is another album I basically rate as "eh.. it's fine". Don't come for me.

Ok but a bit shouty

Some proper bangers but the overall listening experience was very much disrupted by the times they just screamed at me Favourite: Here Comes Your Man

***An ok album
