Reviews (page 10 of 14)
Great band and great album!
Great album that I come back to every now and again. Standouts are Debaser, Here Comes Your Man and Monkey Gone to Heaven
Really good, nothing more to say.
Great album
Decent
Nota: 6/10
Fun!
Heard it. Great.
Closest we have had to a 5 star album so far, some fantastic songs but a little drop in quality in the second half.
While the other Pixies album was a solid 8, this is more of a 7.5. It had more tunes that I knew on it, but preferred the last. Still, my roundup rule keeps it at 4/5.
Great tunes - I prefer Surfer Rosa but this is excellent.
"Don't know about you But I am un chien andalusia" (Debaser) "What's that floatin' in the water? Oh, Neptune's only daughter" (Mr. Grieves) El resto del disco sin más, pero Debaser es tan locurote que le voy a poner cuatro estrellas igualmente.
its pretty good
Better than I remember
'Debaser' - absoluter BÄNGÄ, sondtrack von SKATE3. Außerdem liebt auch Stingo "the voice of AEV" diesen song (#Qualitätssiegel) Insgesamt ne runde Sache. A weng gschrei, bissi punkig und geht ins Ohr. Gehard Abfahrt!
Love it!
Original 80s/90s garage sound. Not for everyone but lead the way for modern artsy/need rock/alternative
an awesome album
This is the punk I was expecting, since the early 70s stuff was way too obtuse and angry for me! Or maybe this is early 70s, and I just like the Pixies a lot more? It's calmer, at least.
Fuck yeah
Nostalgia jam
A transformative alt-rock album; sound is very ahead of its time and the future bands that were influenced by it are so palpable.
Really enjoyed it. Quite varied sounds and nice funky beats. Was going to five stars but the last couple tracks were a bit meh
closer to a 4.5
Obviously inspired and inspirational, and no doubt a nailed-on 5 to many. But I don't really connect to this as much as similar-ish indie bands from that era. Give me Pavement or Dinosaur Jr instead!
cool cool me gusto
3 sterne
Pixies were another of those bands I’d always heard about but never gotten around to listening to. I really enjoyed Doolittle, it felt just like listening to 1990s alternative-rock radio and I regret not checking them out sooner. They would fit perfectly alongside other ’90s bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana.
good
2026.08.18.
Good album. A few classics and some nice surprises.
❤️ Dragged on a bit, but good. Thx ❤️
I can understand liking this, it's just not my cup of tea
First listen to this album. Enjoyable.
A good album, i liked I Bleed and Mr Grieves the most.
Not my cup of tea
It was okay. I feel like I should have liked it more.
Solid noise rock album that does not ignore hooks or melodies. “Here Come Your Man” is an all-timer.
A little frenetic at times but I enjoyed it more than the last one. Sadly will not revisit but was listenable.
Like it 3/5
good early Pixies! No dust here!
Fuuuck. My second Pixies pull, their second studio album, and the release I have absolutely hated until now. I listened to Doolittle five years ago and thought it was complete horseshit. Terrible music, terrible vocals and aggravatingly shitty, airheaded songwriting. That being said, "Where Is My Mind?" from their previous album was pretty neat, so these guys could have it in em to redeem themselves. I have nothing else to say, so I might as well get into this one. Here goes. I gave this album a 1/10 out on my music cataloguing profile. Right up there with Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors and TPaB. I really fucking hated this thing, huh? I hate not longer, fortunately. The slacker style of Pixies still bugs me, though I'm capable of seeing the merit in this album. The guitars have a nice, humming sound to them during the quiet parts and I favour the rough, jittery sounds during the livelier stretches. Frank Black is an adept vocalist, though I'm still not sold on his lyrical style or songwriting chops. A lot of his lyrics and vocal melodies sound AI generated in how scattershot and directionless they are, which adds an insipid element to the music that pushes me away. The album also does that annoying thing where it jams a bunch of songs into a relatively short runtime, making the listening experience fatiguing despite its 38-minute duration. All in all, I thought this album was an adept, albeit tiresome listen. I don't really feel tempted to revisit it, however. I know this album is a big deal, so I'm not going to go scrounging around the book and Wikipedia for reasons as to why this album is in here. I cosign this inclusion.
very garage rock, punky, and beautiful melodies
Short sharp songs, dynamic and varied
2,8 Highlights: Debaser, Here Comes Your Man
Enjoyed this much more than Bossanova. Some good tunes on here and worth another listen.
cool
Here Comes Your Man is the first real banger from the album, but Mr. Grieves goes to an interesting sound that leads well into the drums at the beginning of La La Love You. Hey is the next hit song
I felt like the second half of it was better for some reason. I want to like this album but wasn’t really feeling it. I appreciate it for its influence on other incredible musicians but i think it’s just not my favorite. Really nice musicianship and mixing on this!
I can see their appeal and it's not that I don't like it. But it doesn't exite me, maybe due to its age.
a little too emo for me, but I like the guitar. Here comes your man is my favorite song on the album. Would continue to listen to it. A lot of the other songs sound pretty similar to each other.
a bit annoying but some good ones
decent
Some rock, some pop, some junk.
decent vibes
7 / 10
Yeah it was good. Well played. Little too grungy for me though.
Cool. Short, disjointed, but well-produced and a couple of real bangers.
All this time I swore the band's name was THE Pixies. Egg on my face, bro
This is good, but won’t listen to it again.
Liked here comes your man song
Certainly an influential record for those in the 90s alternative music scene as well as people inspired by it. From Nirvana to Olivia Rodrigo, the Pixies have left their mark across generations with their first few records. It's not quite what I'm after personally, but there's absolutely no denying the impact Doolittle's had, and while I may prefer to listen to one of the bands the Pixies had inspired, this one's still pretty goooooood. Standouts: Debaser, Wave of Mutilation, Gouge Away
Had a good time with this but it was too many days ago and I forgot to put any notes down at that time. I liked it more than Surfer Rosa though (complimentary in both cases)
I think I liked this a little more than Surfer Rosa, but maybe that's recency bias. Still just something good to listen to for me but not too much to stand out either.
Wasn't a stand out.
<3 me gusta mucho “hey”.
This album doesn’t live up to my teenage memories of it, but it’s got its moments (and Gouge Away)
Repetitive, atonal, cryptic, whiny...all words that reappear in reviews of albums I don't care for, and this is one of them. A few tracks (like "Crackity Jones" and "La La Love You") add a little variety to the mix, but overall it's just Not My Thing.
Se me hizo monótono pero bien.
it's a standard pixies album that mostly sounds okay, has some shiny highlights, but is not that much above the average of many other noise alt rock bands' output.
Amazing
A bit monotonous. Just okay.
3.1
3.5. Not really my type of music with the way Francis sings, but it has very high highs. I guess, being honest, i liked the “radio-friendly” songs more like La La Love You and Here Comes Your Man. I do see why people love it so much, though - it’s just not something I would listen to again, minus a few songs
liked - hey, monkey gone to heaven, here comes your man
pretty cool album. a lot of the vocals and instrumentals are out there, and while i'm not a huge fan of every song, for the most part doolittle is an enjoyable listen. favorite track: wave of mutilation
Neither great nor terrible. Good rock. Didn’t know they did “Here Comes Your Man,” but all the other songs were easy to listen to. Solid music for driving.
not my kind of jam but still listenable
Here comes your man is a fun track the rest don’t really match its tone though
Ganske fornuftigt.
They certainly have an amazing talent for writing songs that are a catchy as f*ck, and those guitars rock hard Many a sweaty nightclub evening in the 90's was spent jumping around to Pixies tunes But hearing the lyrics again now, why should I care about the Monkey? And wtf is Andalusia? Wave of Mutilation - really? I think I've moved on . . .
okay
Here Comes Your Man elevated this a full point for me.
felt very experimental, like a mix of every genre and their take on it. certainly good but it wasn't my cup of tea
The last of the 3 Pixies albums on this list. With nearly 500 albums I've heard since my last Pixies album, my opinion hasn't changed. Still no fan, still doesn't do much for me.
war nice bissle punkkk
Lots of screaming, haha. Background noise, not very thought provoking. Leah - 4/7 Leprechauns Austin - 3.5/7 Leprechauns
Really wanted to like this more than I did because I know it's a pretty iconic album. Some of the songs had good beats, but some were pretty grating on me. Debaser & Here Comes Your Man were standouts. (3)
One of the few bands that I listened to and purchased before their Replacements-Big Star-V.U. like rise in popularity as non-stars who influenced bigger bands. My coolness quotient will take a hit when I say their impact is greater than my enjoyment. They distill a number of styles into a fairly original blend, although I often prefer their influences. I hear The Cure’s guitars on “Debaser.” Whenever Black Francis launches into a near scream, it recalls Pere Ubu. The bouncy songs like “Here Comes Your Man” mirror The Velvet Underground’s Motown meets NYC grime. Unfortunately, not a single song is highly pleasurable, nor memorable. They exist in my mind from particular moments when I heard them, not because I was ever totally into the group. On the less conventional songs, Black Francis’ voice is shrill rather than the scary abrasiveness of similar singers. The guitar sounds lack strength in a similar manner. When The Pixies play more crafted songs, I started comparing them to The Breeders, and I could see why Kim Deal’s next band had the bigger hits. The Breeders’ riffs, singing and lyrics pack more punch and fun than anything here. Standards and expectations impact reviews. Doolittle is a fine record, but does not sit high in my canon.
I had mixed feelings about this one and it was hard figuring out how to rate it. I admired their revolutionary and experimental style but I am not sure it worked for me. It was hard figuring out their point of view. Some of their songs had a very hard metal vibe, but then they would do something that felt 70’s rock. If I had to describe them I would call it Folk Rock Metal. It was an interesting concept but I am not sure it really came together.
I feel like I need to give this one a more focused listen, but I thought it was just okay. Nothing wrong with it, just nothing to get me terribly excited about either.
Buen álbum, rock puro y duro.
It's got exactly 4 good songs, and the rest of the album is filler.
It was good
i liked some songs a lot, some songs not at all. they all had a very similar vibe.
Was pretty good I would give it a 3 out of 5, but nothing really stands out, I drive to it to work.
15 songs The songs being so short they all kind of blend into one another. Quite a good listen as an album, but I don't know how much I would enjoy each individual song otherwise
It's the pixies
These uncs in their mid 40s complaining about trap and mumble rap while listening to this. Some songs do go hard though. Favorite Songs: Hear Comes your Man, Monkey Gone to Heaven, La La Love You.
Standouts Mr. Grieves
vocals weren't really my thing, nor the lyrics. but damn the atmosphere is pretty good, some of the songs were still pretty fun too ! like I Bleed, i really liked the backing vocals and guitar for that one. dead too, that one's fun overall, not something i'd listen to regularly, but im reasonably content with trying it anyways
Not my favorite Pixies’ album but a good record nonetheless. Lots of classics here.
kinda repetitive but i liked it 3.9/5
Familiar with this, listened to it before. Not my favourite but I do like some of the moments in this album. Debaser is probably my favourite. I just find it hard to imagine a moment where I would choose to put this album on
Low 3, the early stuff just sounds like noise, but it improved as you went through the album, with the back 1/3 in particular being quite enjoyable
There are sounds I like especially noisier ones but they barely add up to songs. Liked Songs: Gouge Away, Monkey Gone to Heaven & Here Comes Your Man
6.5
3/5
3.5 / 5 Best Song: Here Comes Your Man Worst Song: Silver Weirdest Song: Tame Honorable Mention: Wave of Mutilation Pretty weird but ultimately a fun album with a great mixture of genres from punk, grunge, surf rock, and reggae.
#14 I was excited to give this a listen, knowing how revered Pixies are and having only heard a couple of their big hits before. To be honest though, it fell kind of flat for me. It wasn't bad, but after two listens it just kind of ran together and nothing was memorable. There are a few good songs, but nothing wowed me. I can definitely see the influence this had on the alt rock scene that evolved in the years following, and it does sound ahead of its time for a 1989 release. 3.5/5
Si bien hay temazos con here comes your man, honestamente no me copó como album, los pixies no son lo mio
I liked it. My personal favorite think about Pixies is that they influenced Nirvana. If the day ever comes when I want to explore this genre and era more I’ll remember to come back to Pixies.
meh.
Silver
Enkele bangers omgeven door mid.
Doolittle was definitely an enjoyable album but it would easily get surpassed by Bossanova a year later. It definitely does feel like these guys influenced a lot of what The Smashing Pumpkins would go on to do especially with Black Francis having a very similar voice to Billy Corgan and that is one aspect i quite liked alongside the heavy sounding music. There are definitely a lot of really strong tracks on offer but at the same time, there are some pretty lame ones here as well. I still think it went at a decent pace even if not all the songs here were winners. I still definitely had an enjoyable time with this album and would definitely give it a high 3 but i'm just not feeling it the same way i did with Bossanova Best Song: Gouge Away Worst Song: Mr. Grieves
Fun punk.
pretty good, I'm not really into rock but I liked Doolittle. Fav songs, Wave of Mutilation, and I Bleed.
One song is pretty fast and fine, but others are just bad. Sounds like those country classics, but not in country music. This is just like cheerfulcore, that makes it boring and basic. Don't hate it, but wouldn't listen even as background, maybe some time, not too much.
I’m not a Pixies fan. A couple of iconic songs, but not much more.
Good album, certain songs just dawned on me. I like here comes your man, crackity jones, and i bleed, and la la love you. This more like a 3.5.
Day 36 — Pixies — Doolittle (1989) Listened: May 7–9, 2026 Genre: Alternative Rock / Indie Rock / Post-Punk Vibe: Visceral and dynamic — quiet intimacy exploding into noise, hooks buried in chaos, Black Francis screaming poetry over Kim Deal's locked-in bass. Highlights: ★ Here Comes Your Man • Monkey Gone to Heaven • La La Love You • No. 13 Baby Impression: A massive step up from Bossanova — easier to get into and more rewarding throughout. The punk and surf energy with a sixties pop melodic sensibility clicked immediately. Here Comes Your Man sounds like a direct ancestor of Rancid. The whispering-to-screaming dynamic is striking and you can hear exactly where Nirvana borrowed from. This is the Pixies album that makes sense to me. Rating: 3.0/5 Keep songs? Yes Revisit album? Yes
Pretty decent, good length and some nice sounding tunes
there's something suss about black francis. seems like he's trying to hide his affluent background and he's more of a tourist. He's not downtrodden, his real name is Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV. His dad was friends with captain beefheart. this is a kid trying so hard to live up to expectations, who is talented and hard working. But this is not a kid who knows whereof he speaks.
3/5
Alright. Seemed like it should have been from the early 70s not the late 80s. Quite liked it but don’t think there was a lot of variation or depth in it.
I tried to give this album a chance but I have always hated the pixies and I guess I always will. just a bunch of sound pollution. 3/10 rating
Kan dit wel waarderen. Muziek erg vet, zanger soms een beetje schreeuwerig.
A diverse musical approach of power driven music and minimalistic lyrical notings.
É bom, mas não me prendeu.
It was alright, but half the songs actively made me so angry that I had to skip them. The other half was good 👍. My favorites were Wave of Mutilation, Here Comes Your Man, and There Goes My Gun. Overall, I would give it a 3.3/5!
It's fun! Very 2000s rock without being too dad rock.
I appreciate that stylistically this album was hugely important for those indie bands that came after and rode the wave of mainstream in the early 90s. I can hear a lot of Nirvana Nevermind and others but Doolittle itself didn’t quite grab me with the exception of the excellent monkey gone to heaven It just didn’t a hook song to elevate the album such as a teen spirit/ come as you are.
Quite good. Songs from No 13 Baby and under are way better and pretty interesting. Very nice guitars! The guitar in Hey is heavenly.
I was around when the Pixies came out but they somehow got by me and I never realized how popular they were until just before they broke up. Once again it was probably a case of them being more of a college rock band and never being able to hear them on mainstream radio. By the time I got to them I had heard a multitude of other bands and ended up finding the Pixies to be a bit tame compared to where my tastes had gone by that point. Listening to it now I do still find this a bit tame but now in my later years it seems that there’s some sort of a maturity to their sound and that it seems to be well formed from the beginning. I do enjoy this but it doesn’t get me totally pumped however I have a feeling this might be one of those slow burn bands where things start clicking after many listens. Definitely not offended by them and I don’t mind that I’ll be listening to a couple more albums by them coming up on this project.
Listened to the whole album. I liked some songs like "Hey" a lot.
It’s a decent album, I like some of the songs on here but the vocals in some parts just sound weird to me and it’s kinda off-putting. I would’ve enjoyed this album more if the vocals didn’t sound so strange. Most enjoyable part of the album was the instrumentals. Was honestly expecting more, I thought it’d be at least a 4/5 but I’m gonna have to give it a solid 3/5.
Okay, but didn’t wow me.
Love parts of the album, can’t handle the screaming
This band will never be my cup of tea, but great to get exposed to this complete album since I only knew the hits previously.
Doctor.
- not the most cohesive to me . but maybe i just need more time with it - favorites: here comes your man, hey - rating: 2.5/5
first listen its okay
i guess this type of screaming just isn’t my vibe
Damn, this was worse than I expected, only liked 2 of the songs. I never had listened to the actual album, So I was suprised to hear so much screaming
Nice.
beginning track, debaser, sounds something to segway into a indie film. very loud. makes me wanna do a disney channel knee dance. beginning hi hat pattern off on tame reminds me of 70s funk (see dave grohl talking about gap band here). i bleed. chick sound like she's underwater. really like it. these boys are alright. Here comes to your man. A little Beatles, rockabilly esque. shout out to bands who do this (the muffs, love kim shattuck) the section 1:21 mins in dead. that's it there was a guy... who ate shawarma (lullaby by Shawn queued in). strings, definitely a big budget mr grieves. the beginning sounds like sublime take psychedelic when listening to la la love you
Debaser just feels like a rant but he's really going for it in his lyrical shouting. I think he'd be really good on broadway. Makes me feel like Pixies were heavily inspired by David Bowie. As we get further down the album it feels a bit more hard rock than anything until we get to Here Comes Your Man which just reminds me of nothing but driving down to the beach with my family listening to classic rock radio. Also there's something about a dead monkey (pictured). It's alright. Not my favorite but not the worst thing 1001albums has thrown at me. Solid 3/5 IMO.
Here’s another band that I probably would have really liked if I heard them at the time. Now, it’s too abrasive and frenetic for me, though in general I appreciated the music and vocals. I read Black Francis is known for his lyrics but, as usual, I really didn’t catch them on a first - and not especially close - listen.
🙂
couple songs keep it from a 5
Lowkey punchy.
One of those albums that no-one speak poorly about. Or that people are scared to say anything about. It's an icon of modern serious guitar post-rock. And I just don't get it. I don't actively hate it, I just find it it unfocused and rushed. There, I said it. Oh, the taste-police are now hammering on my door.
First few tracks were enjoyed
Ok
Decent album but not quite up my street. Here Comes Your Man was definitely the best and my favourite on the album
Your favorite band's favorite band, as they say. Never really gave them a proper listen until now, but I can see where this reputation comes from. This record sounds like it was recorded in 1994 instead of 1989, and a million bands from the 90s and beyond sound like them. Obviously Kurt Cobain was a fan. I also hear some Mother Mother here and there? Unfortunately I'm not rating on the influence a record had, but how much I enjoyed it personally. I liked it, but didn’t love it.
Not bad
good for a dissociation walk in the fall or chill gym sesh Faves: Monkey Gone to Heaven, Here Comes Your Man, Mr. Grieves, There Goes My Gun
pretty good
This was a really weird experimental album that wasn’t totally for me but I like how werid it is so I’m giving it a low 3.
mostly noisy, not very much to my tastes, but not the worst. The tracks "Monkey Gone to Heaven" and "There Goes My Gun" aren't so bad.
This album was fun; his vocals are very expressive. Debaser and Gouge Away were my standouts. Overall, a 6.4/10. Solid but I dont know if I'd listen to it again.
Always a little surprised at how heavy the Pixies music is. Amazing instrumentals and great song writing, but I'm still a tiny bit dissapointed. Monkey Gone to Heaven still stands out.
It was decent. Pixies music all kind of starts to sound the same to me after a few tracks, but I don't dislike it.
ok
There's nothing that really excites me about the album. There are some okay tracks that I enjoyed listening to, but I wouldn't say any specific standouts... nothing that I think 'wow, this is an insanely influential album'. However, saying this, it also isn't my usual taste in music, so maybe after listening to some more music of this genre, I may revisit this and see if there's any change within my opinion. Favourite Tracks: Here Comes Your Man Mr. Grieves There Goes My Gun
In a move that would horrify my Pixies loving partner of 20 years if I were to tell him, which I won't, I am fairly indifferent to the Pixies. I really like Here Comes Your Man, and enjoy a number of other tracks, but in general I find it hard to get too excited about them. To my ears, this was perfectly fine. Not poor, not great. Good. 3/5
Not all bad but it felt all samey and eh
Pretty nice.
Honestly was hoping for better. The good was great but the fine was meh. Some classics in this for sure but other songs make me want to skip
Punk rock records that feels quite monotonous at the start but adds more fun in the second part. I'd highlight Dead, No 13 Baby, and Gouge Away. The latter is the only track I'd known prior to listening, and in many ways it's the brightest. I liked the guitar at times, while generally speaking, the album has a lot of tracks that were not too bright. That's why three: a decent listen, but by no means a GOAT album.
Way too loud
I liked elements of it, but felt I'd seen the elements I liked done better elsewhere
This album is not bad and I liked it better than Bossanova. Like most Pixies music it just does not click for me at all.
Some of this is really good but some of it needed to Doolittle more
Good album, traditional rock sound. 6.3/10
I kind of wish I enjoyed this more. Feels like an album cool people would enjoy. But there is a lot of moments that just don't grab me, honestly. It's often messy and not in a very flattering way, feels cluttered instrumentally. The vocalist is also kind of annoying on the opener or other songs like I Bleed. In Dead the vocals are way too buried in the mix and don't sound good at all. The song Silver feels really sloppy and awkward and is a weird detour for the band. There is some songs that I like, be that Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone to Heaven or Hey, but overall the album is way too inconsistent and flawed.
This is a great record, and one of the first that allowed me (a devoted ROCKER) to enjoy pop without feeling guilty. Mostly solid songs, with too much credit given to Frank Black. The Breeders showed how much Kim Deal was bringing to the party.
mid
Loud and proud. Wasn’t into the Pixies too much back then, but I see the appeal and enjoyed this one.
Quite sporadic but a few good tunes in it
I Enjoyed it, more interesting, continius whitout my style, but this one was better
Wasn’t entirely my style. So it was OK. The later songs I think we’re better. I’ll give you like a three out of five
Great beats and grungy tone. Kept 1 song
A solid alternative rock album that was a clear jumping off point for so many other artists. The cleaner production style to earlier Pixie's albums works especially well in the singles. The "loud/quiet/loud" style is something I've enjoyed, and I'm happy to have a name for it now. Such a simple and effective way to add dynamics to a song. Here Comes Your Man Monkey Gone To Heaven Hey
I liked this album enough to probably keep it in my library. A couple songs made it to my favorites playlist. Basic punk rock stuff.
Well it’s not boring at least There are some really good songs on here (here comes your man, monkey gone to heaven), and the you have songs that are actually unlistenable (like tame). The vocals are absolutely not my cup of tea, ranging from just ok to ear bleeding. The instrumention’s actually really cool, love some of the baselines and I think they do a lot of cool stuff with tempo and volume (even if that comes at the cost of blowing out your eardrums since you’re using headphones) I can tell this influenced a TON of modern rock (especially smashing pumpkins and nirvana), and I do think they have such a unique sound, but I’m pretty confident I’ll never listen to this one again. I was really close to turning off the album after the second song because it really was that bad, so I’m glad I got through it at least
It's alright. I think there were some decent snippets in there, but ultimately, it's just a little too loud and rough for my ears.
?? mhh ja die pixies dunno...c
The Pixies go for more pop song craft on this release which I think works for them, from the catchy Debaser to the spaghetti western Silver there is quite a range on this album. Good fun.
Like it, but not as much as Surfa Rosa!
It’s Pixies—which means Doolittle turns warped instincts into near-pop perfection, bottling the band’s loud-quiet-loud dynamics into something sharp, sticky, and just unhinged enough. Black Francis yelps about surrealism and apocalypse like they’re Top 40 concerns, while Kim Deal’s buoyant bass and Joey Santiago’s jagged guitar keep everything hovering between melody and mayhem. “Debaser” and “Wave of Mutilation” are delightfully twisted earworms, “Here Comes Your Man” is cracked-mirror radio bait, and “Monkey Gone to Heaven” and “Gouge Away” lean into biblical grandeur with bite. Even “I Bleed,” all chunky crunch, hints at the power-pop blueprint Weezer would later polish on the Blue Album. The beauty of Doolittle isn’t perfection—it’s the friction.
I can see why people like them The catchier songs I found myself liking and jamming with more than the heavier ones Not too bad
Yeh some good tunes, most my favourites aren't on this though
a lil alt rock album, recognized the song “here comes your man”; a good listen.
After Surfer Rosa and now Doolittle I feel like it's safe to say that I enjoy, but I don't love Pixies. There's some really fantastic songs scattered across these albums and I'll definitely be revisiting so maybe it'll grow on me more
A pretty decent listen some good songs on here and so I didn't like so much so probably a low 3 star overall, standout songs 'here comes your man' and 'monkey gone to heaven'
Slightly chaotic.
I liked it more than I thought I would....closer to a 4 than a 2.
2.5 Stars - Just not into it. A few good songs, but nothing I'm necessarily drawn back to.
I really liked Here Comes Your Man, Wave of Mutilation, and Monkey Gone To Heaven. These songs made it onto my playlist. This album is very abstract with theme. Some songs are about a mixture of things. This album may need a second listen from me so I can fully understand it.
Doolittle offers an interesting alternative sound, based on the contrast between accessible melodies and more aggressive moments, sometimes more intense than my personal taste. The album is reminiscent of the influence that the Pixies had on the later alternative scene, especially on the band Nirvana, through the dynamic between silence and sonic explosion. "Here Comes Your Man" and "La La Love You" stand out for their accessibility and melody, being the most memorable songs on the album. Overall, the album has a distinct and influential style, even if some moments may seem overly aggressive to listeners more oriented to the melody. 6.5/10
Album is ok. doesnt move the needle either way for me.
What a bizarre band! U didn't know what to do with this. The drums r great. The guitar is unique. The bass is pronounced and different. The singing, if I can call it at, is so off the wall. This band is so different that they deserve to be in the list, this just isn't something I would listen to often. It does give me better perspective on Weird Al's "First World Problems" which parodies the Pixies haha.
Average
I’ve heard some of their stuff before and there are some songs I do like. However, the only good song on this one that I like is here comes the man. All in all a very average album.
The first album of the week...alright then. It was a bunch of yelling for me, and I usually like songs like that but it just...wasn't hitting for me. I loved Silver so much though because it reminded me of Fleet Foxes.
7.5 / 10

I was pretty good. I enjoyed the variety of types of musics and sounds. I probably found 2-3 songs I would add to a playlist. Good first album and I might look more into the pixies in the future
Starts out a bit eh, improves as the album goes on. The last few songs are what elevate this album from a 2 to a 3 I understand that this is one of those "influential" albums that led to a number of grungey offshoots in the 90s (nirvana, pearl jam, etc), however it doesn't hold up well in the 2020s, particularly because all of those bands in the 90s emulated the pixies's sound and were a step better
I've listened to this album I don't know how many times over the past couple of decades, and it doesn't do it for me. I understand the importance and the influence of it, I can appreciate how effortlessly the Pixies move between styles, the dark humour and absurdity of the lyrics, their competence as songwriters and musicians, but I don't connect with it. I wasn't excited seeing Doolittle come up as today's pick; while listening to it, other than Monkey Gone to Heaven, there was nothing that I was super excited to hear, nothing that I wanted to put on repeat. I've given The Pixies more than a fair shake over the years, their music just isn't for me.
What a start to an album! Not sure the rest matched up but songs and music were interesting at least and raw.
it was fine enough grew on me kinda like 7/10
I definitely liked this more than Surfer Rosa, but to be honest I just think Frank Black is kind of annoying. He has his moments to be sure, but there's so much that he's doing that I just don't enjoy at all, and it kinda drags the music down for me. Favorites: Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Mr. Grieves
Rating 6/10
Me gustó mucho para trabajar o para disfrutarlo when you’re just chilling. TENGO QUE ESCUCHARLO MÁS VECES PARA ENAMORARME COMPLETAMENTE. Mi canción favorita del álbum es Monkey Gone to Heaven.
Not my thing - I get why people like it but i wouldn’t re listen
3/5 I already knew Here Comes Your Man before listening, so I was very surprised by the vibe the rest of the album had as it was vastly different! A lot of character across the album for sure, just not sure if I really enjoyed it.
Listened in the car on the way to the airport and of where I could hear there was early getting influence. I'll listen again to hear more of the lyrics
Doolittle is one of those albums that I respect more than I genuinely enjoy. It’s not exactly my cup of tea, but I completely understand why it’s become such a sacred text in alternative rock history. The record lives in that constant tension between catchy, almost pop-leaning melodies and moments that feel like being shouted at by a deranged preacher. Sometimes it flows; other times it just yells, and very deliberately so. Lyrically, it’s mostly grim, uncomfortable, and borderline grotesque. But that’s clearly the point. The songs seem to revel in unease, surreal violence, and general weirdness, and the ugliness is part of the charm. Doolittle doesn’t try to seduce you on first listen; it sort of pushes you away. This is very much an acquired taste kind of album: the first time through, you’re unlikely to fall in love, but slowly it starts to grow in you. One day you realize you know half the tracklist by heart, and not long after that, it’s somehow ended up in your collection. I listened to the MFSL SACD 2033 version, which is a solid master with good dynamic range, though that quality isn’t always obvious, since the album’s whole aesthetic leans toward a raw, abrasive, scratchy sound. Polishing it too much would probably miss the point anyway. This is music that’s meant to feel slightly uncomfortable, like it’s always on the verge of falling apart. All things considered, I admire Doolittle more than I love it. It’s influential, distinctive, and undeniably effective at what it sets out to do, but it still doesn’t fully click with me. 6.5/10 (as of today, first hearing ever)
Interesting, and quite cheerful, but I didn't find one single song that I would listen to often.
Ihan ok. Pitäisi kuunnella uudestaan. 2,5/5.
Super 80s.. No doubt about it.
I expected it to blow my socks off, but it was just ok. I still enjoyed myself, just that I can't recall much.
Would give this a 3.5 rating, I liked some of the songs but didn’t really vibe with it that much
Exceptuando unas cuantas canciones , el álbum no necesariamente me encantó. Tendría que escucharlo de nuevo.
I have never heard of Doolittle. I hear the inspirations they generated into the 90s. In fact a Nirvana song auto played after this album and you can definitely hear the influence. Overall I enjoyed it. It wasn't mind blowing for me but I could listen to it again without a problem.
Some decent songs. Some I would definitely skip. Dad rock. Good considering the year of release
There's some good melodic crunchy guitar rock here. There's also a good sized helping of what seems to be noise for noises sake. Not my thing, but there were a couple of solid tunes.
Not too bad, probably better hearing it for the first time when it came out.
Love it
7/10 cool album with some fun songs, nothing that rlly drew my attention tho
how have i never heard any of these songs before??? ... <THAT WAS WRITTEN LIKE 3 SONGS IN BUT THE INTRO TO HERE COMES YOUR MAN IS SO RECOGNISABLE???- bit repetitive- i really like dead and monkey gone to heaven as well as these song names fr. 10/10 six seven reference in monkey gone to heaven AND the album cover btw. the next few songs arent as good icl. anddd first album complete! it picked up at bit towards the end overall i enjoyed this album :)
I know the Pixies were very influential to the grunge scene (Kurt Cobain was a big fan for example), but I never really gave them much of a listen. This album is great, and you can certainly hear the proto-grunge sound… but also a lot of other interesting styles as well. It’s not just a loud grunge record. It’s very poppy in places, but not in a pandering or obnoxious way. It’s really good, I liked it and I definitely want to dig into more of their catalog.
A bit different from my usual taste, but a groovy album with good beats.
Couple of good songs.

Mostly due to Here Comes Your Man
Better than Surfer Rosa but I just don’t like the band and the vocals.
liked two songs
My rating 3.5
It felt a lot longer than it actually was. It was fine just not my taste. Here comes your man was cute though
If it wasn't for Monkey's Gone to Heaven, which I really like, I'd have given this a 2. The rest of the album is pretty poor.
I can imagine this album being well received at the time as it's probably one of the best of its type. For me, with the benefit of knowing music before and after this era, I'm not hearing anything too innovative or memorable.
Is aight
I’m always vexed when an album by a band ends up on here but it’s not their best album. That’s the case with Doolittle. It’s good but not that good.
Lots of good guitar, especially in the beginning songs. Had some solid songs in there that I wouldn’t mind listening to, but also some songs in there that I never want to hear again. Overall just not really my style of music
Grunge, not really my thing but it wasn’t all bad. Listened to it twice and it was good for what it was.
Giving 2020 grunge but not in a bad way. Not really my taste, but not bad. “Where is my mind” was their peak tho.
Just not really my style
Pretty good. Reminds me of Courtney Love. Very 90s but great for a car ride or walk.
I can really see how the strokes and weezer were influenced by their style - sounds like the basics of indie rock sounds. And to think that they started this sound in the late 80's is kinda wild because this sort of vibe probably only took off in the early 2000s. Kinda lengthy though.
Familiar elements in the modern punk I’ve listened too so there some respect as helping to define the genre
Fun! ★★★
Amazingly I’m coming to this for the first time….Pixies were not my thing back in the 80s. I know here comes your man, but that’s it. First listen, vocals are buried in the mix at times which is frustrating. Nice to hear an 80s record with natural sounding drums. Can hear the genesis of quite of lot of music I do like (Radiohead etc), but weirdly not a massive fan on this. 3 for now. Suspect on repeat listens I’ll fall for it though…
Good album
Not a keeper. There is one or two decent tracks. More grungy than I like.
🥇here comes your man 🥈wave of mutilation 🥉no 13 baby (specifically the last 1:50 of instrumental) HM: la la love you, there goes my gun, gouge away
great, some parts (mostly in the first two songs) were a bit too alternative for me but i liked many songs by themselves but mostly the album as a whole. i get why the songs that are more popular are this way, i especially liked Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone to Heaven and Wave of Mutilation but i'm sure if i listen to it again i find a few others that i like the same (also six seven mentioned, crazy).
i have mixed feelings on this one. some songs i really liked, others i really was not a fan of (to the point i couldn't even finish the song), and others though they weren't necessarily my taste i can see how other people would like them. my favourite tracks were: here comes you man, wave of mutilation, monkey gone to heaven and la la love you. my least favourite tracks were: debaser, tame and crackity jones. overall i think i would give it 5/10 or possibly 6/10 at a push. this is because i prefer slower, more melodic songs whereas a lot of the songs on this album were quite loud and fast and screamy. however, i can appreciate that this is a well made album with some tunes on it.
A lot of skips and several really good songs, too
Likeable. Has ramshackle charm. But the vibe is much too "on drugs" than I will ever be comfortable being myself, and after a while it grows tiresome. The final stretch is strong though so they pull it through!
Not that bad
Wasn't as punk as I was expecting - not that I didn't enjoy it though
--Debaser...like the guitar. a little too chaotic for me --Tame...this must be the dynamic range Pixies fans are always talking about --Wave of Mutilation...I like the song but Francis' voice is oddly low in the mix. Much lower than tracks one and two. I imagine this was a deliberate choice I just can't imagine why --I Bleed...not a fan of this one. the chaos is back --Here Comes Your Man...fun change of pace. sunny surfy pop --Dead...proto-White Stripes --Monkey Gone to Heaven...love some good numerology rock --Mr. Grieves...like the bass groove --Crackity Jones...like the speed of this one --La La Love You...different singer? it's fine --No. 13 Baby...I'm kinda miffed that this isn't the 13th track. this just kind of meanders --There Goes My Gun...things are melting together now --Hey...I don't hate this but it almost sounds like an improv jam until the chorus --Silver...slide guitar time --Gouge Away...a lesser "Wave of Mutilation" mixed with a bit of "Debaser"
7/10
This does very little for me. There’s nothing on the album that I’d like to come back to, and no situation where I see myself listening to this again. That said, it’s not wretched or irritating.
Meh! The album is OK, but it just doesn't do it for me.
It was ok
