Reviews (page 12 of 14)

I was really hoping to like this album more than I do. It has some good songs but a lot of stuff just blends together.

Started out loud, like I wasn't going to like it, but settled down a touch, and enjoyed listening. Still - won't run out to buy it!

Good album. Similar to Surfer Rosa, where the most famous song on the album doesn’t really fit with the rest of the songs. Still enjoyed it. 3.5/5 Probably will listen again

Not a big fan of Pixies but the influence they had on later bands (Radiohead, Nirvana) that I’m a fan of cannot be ignored

This is one of my favorite albums ever. Good on ya!

There's a few gems to discover but most of the back end of the album feels like filler.

Would’ve been better if they had Eddie Murphy on it

This is on the required reading list for my life growing up. Understand the importance of it, how it influenced the music that came after etc, just not a huge fan of it.

I recognize that one song from 500 Days Of Summer. Pretty good album. Need to listen again i think

This sort of washed over me without impacting me in any way. And I did play it twice.

spacey and quiet, then IN YOUR FACE. In a good way!

Couple all timers mixed in with some experimental, new aged noise. Can appreciate its influence on subsequent bands, but not necessarily my cup of tea.

Great album I'll revist, could be a 4.

Here Comes Your Man is one of my favorite songs of all time. It's a song that always puts me in a great mood. This was a fun listen. I've never sat down and listened to this album before and have always heard good things. I can totally see why people love this one and why people love the pixies. Good stuff for sure.

Very cool interplay between LV and BGV Super dynamic and hooky instrumentals and lyrical ideas. Monkey Gone to Heaven is the perfect display of these ideas. I listened to this one in a cafe and kept looking to my right and left thinking people were telling me they, “La La Love” me. A stray away from genres that were eaten up by the culture at the time. I hear a distinct amount of Pixies in bands from The White Stripes all the way to Young Fathers.

I like them in the same way I like Pj Harvey

OK a bit discordant

Decent alternative.

Correcto.

I'm a bit neutral to this one. Didn't love it. Didn't dislike it. Outside of "Here Comes Your Man", there wasn't anything that I would come back for.

Not my style of screams, but I did like some of the songs.

I liked the songs where the singer sounded like a human being.

I wanted to rate a 4, but couldn't quite get there.

When this album came up I thought OK here's a band / album I may have just missed out on. Pixies. Yay! They are great and such big influences in the 90's. But then I listen and I realize that ya I've heard all of this and have intentionally left it out of my rotation. I hear some things I like but can't rate this super high. Doesn't press a nostalgia button for me. Can't just rate it because it influenced.

A few bangers. But mostly just beyond my reach.

solid 6/10 not the pixies best album i cant lie, has some good songs tho😄

Not bad, some classic songs

Overall so-so. Liked just a couple of songs, but probably wouldn't seek to listen again.

Musically a well-appointed album no doubt there. I am glad to add several tracks to my playlist. I like seeing where Wave of Mutilation came from surprised to learn Here Comes Your Man is the more popular song. A good listen for sure. A very good album I see why it is on the list.

Liked some, disliked some. Overall average album.

Crazy how this album sounds like it came out in the late '90s. Has a seriously original sound that many artists seem to have copied and later years. That said, the album as a whole was a little more experimental than I prefer.

I was never a big fan of the Pixies. I admire their quirky approach to indie rock but I never thought it was all that great. On relistening, I found myself enjoying Doolittle a bit more than I did back in 2020, but I still find a lot of the stuff in here middling. I think I was so blown away by the opening track Debaser that I was expecting more just like it, when Doolittle actually explores a lot more stuff with wider dynamics. This one is a grower for me and I'd say it'll be one of my favorites in a few years after few relistens, but for now it's just good.

Hade nog gillat denna mer i yngre ålder. Men vette fan.

I somewhat care 3.5

boppy and at most points very loud alternative rock. in terms of vocals, they range from comforting to seriously screechy, the latter of which is far more prevalent across the 15-song album- condensed into just 38 minutes, via a collection of short, energetic numbers. it's mostly enjoyable, but I wouldn't say it's something to revisit.

Saw them play this album live about 15 years ago. Good show. It’s a well-loved alt-rock classic that I think holds up. It’s not an album that would blow minds if released today, but it was ahead of its time for 1989. Kim Deal’s background vocals definitely brought something different and compelling to their sound. 3.5

Alternative Rock Ziemlich wild. Interessant, aber nichtganz meine Musikrichtung. 3/5

Didn't expect to recognise any of these. But was surprisingly decent

Its was ok

pretty fun, sounded experimental. i liked the surfy song Here Comes Your Man.

Love the punk feel to it Quick and dirty 3.5

Good album.

Not as good as Surfer Rosa!

good album, not something I would re-visit personally

I really liked the first song, and I think the album in general is better then the other album of the Pixies I've previously heard, but I'm not sure it's the genre for me? It's also a bit too hard on my headache today

Very much enjoy this album. 3/3 for what I’ve already heard. I will say I think I’m a bigger fan of surfer Rosa than Doolittle.

3/5 Decent, not sure if I’d listen again but was good for what it is.

I enjoyed some of these tracks, but overall the sound was a little too inconsistent for me to really lock into the album and enjoy it.

It was ok

Ok, I respect this album as an important influence on 90s alternative rock, and it has a lot of interesting ideas, but it is pretty rough to listen to. For some reason, the surf rock and punk influences don't come together for me, and the lyrics and track titles are nonsense, but not in an interesting way. To be fair, I am coming back to this list after a long break filled with eurodance music (it's Eurovision 2024 season), so I'm a bit out of practice listening to this kind of stuff.

This group should be right in my wheelhouse, but I'm always underwhelmed. Love Kim Deal and even Black Francis' songwriting is very cool. It just doesn't overall gel for me, even though Wave and Here Comes Your Man are top songs for me. Album is like 3 songs too long and is Crackity Jones problematic, or what?

Loveee that one song and debaser coz it’s funny saying debaser like a German, should get into this genre a bit more

Fun trip to the past

The Pixies are an acquired taste, but I feel that this album is very accessible compared to earlier releases.

Ok. Another vocally annoying album.

6.5/10 Having heard only a few of the key Pixies songs, this was a surprise - much more skipping through genres than expected. Yes, it was punky hard-ish rock, but overall it was more what I might call indie rock with both a pop and punk sensibility Rhythm drives the music excellently - especially the bass, which really stood out Really liked when the male and female vocals interplayed Best: Monkey Gone to Heaven

What an interesting listen! Up here in Central NY we have a phrase; "If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes" and for this album you only have to wait two minutes. It was a bit all over the place for me to love it but there were parts I loved and parts where it was abrasive. Not knowing anything about Pixies before this, I hear a clear influence on one of my favorites Weezer so I must give credit there. I think the vocal style turned me off a bit at times but also showed it could be appealing to me on Wave of Mutilation and others. The bass and female background vocals were consistent standouts. Track by track: 1 - The head bobbing started right away. Groovy bass. Ooooh... the vocals are kind of an immediate turn-off. Let's see if I get used to it. 2 - The bass again! The vocals again... :( 3 - Oh I like this one. Sounds a bit like a Weezer track. I wonder if there is an influence there. 4 - This is a little chaotic for me in the morning. I think there are redeeming qualities but they are being drowned out. 5 - Wow what a different sound! Starts out with a throw-back feel like this song was out of the 1950's. I dig it! 6 - A little on the chaotic side for me but I liked the guitar parts. 7 - What an odd track! I can dig it though. Am I going to be singing "This monkey's gone to heaven" later? 8 - Shrug. Couldn't hold my attention. 9 - Got my attention in a bit of a bad way. 10 - Fine track. 11 - I'm into this. Some of the vocals aren't my favorite but I can get past it. 12 - It's fine but I'm not revisiting it. 13 - I really like the "we're chained" part with the female backup vocals. It makes the whole track for me. 14 - Tone shift! I'll probably skip this in subsequent listens. 15 - Oh I like this one. Again the bass is a standout and really drives the track.

Memories of Skate 3 soundtrack

Album Nr. 30 Rockig. Aber nur durchschnittlich.

The album started off a bit meh but later on got alright.

Some 5-star tracks, but not a strong album overall.

It's okay, but I didn't think it was anything particularly special.

Está guay el rollito que tiene. Me gusta la canción del perro andaluz.

I really enjoyed the driving baselines on several of these tunes. I had to go back and look and see who the members of the band were after listening. I was almost sure young Adam Sandler was singing number 13 baby. Definitely a throwback.

Fairly harsh sound. I like some of the songs but nothing is really an 'earworm'. I can definitely see how this music influenced sounds of the 90s and alt-rock in general.

some good songs first half

It's amazing how many catchy and instantly memorable songs there are on this album. Songs like "Debaser," "Here Comes Your Man," and "Monkey Gone to Heaven" are worth the price of admission on their own but there is so much to see. Despite the generally poppier numbers getting the most attention (hello "Wave of Mutilation" in Rock Band being my introduction to the Pixies), this album is full of a smattering of sounds that would go on to define 90's rock. Nosier songs never feel overcrowded and quieter songs like "Hey" let you truly appreciate the space in the recording. "Silver" is another stand out in this way. A slow, plodding song that seems to breathe and let each instrument occupy it's own space. It's funeral dirge pace is highlighted by the song being less than three minutes, but somehow still taking up vast amount of space as well as time.

Honestly a little disappointing. Nothing bad but not a lot that stood out to me either. I expected this one to be 4 or 5 star but instead the tracks melted together a little and didn't really ever hook me in.

1.20.24

The 90’s called! Good times

It was ok

Mäßiger alternative Rock.

not their best

Sounds like a sad monkey

Once again it's three stars from me. I understand why they are influential and all, but there's just something missing for me to enjoy them more.

The first half really has a nirvana type vibe and then “here comes your man” kinda comes out of nowhere with a complete different sound which threw me off a bit. Not the biggest fan of his voice but I do love the guitar/bass riffs

More rock-forward/alternative/punk than I anticipated after already knowing ‘Here Comes Your Man.’ Good album but not all of the songs are my preferred style of music. Looked more into the meaning behind ‘Debaser.’ Based on a weird ass scene from a Salvador Dali-inspired movie from the 1920s. Smashing Pumpkins but more punk? And add in some Weezer on some tracks. Heavy video game soundtrack vibes like the group discussed.

The inspiration behind bands like Nirvana, Radiohead, and Weezer. Like many forms of art, they may have been the first to do it, but they are not the best to do it.

I had only heard ‘Where is my mind’ from the Pixies before this so I was happy to hear a bit more. Overall I liked the album but don’t know if their style of rock is completely my thing. Still enjoyed it and added 3 songs to my playlist!

Kind of a mixed bag. There are some pretty fun tues here, but also some clunkers.

Sort of a Nirvana "Bleach" vibe.

Not horrible. Would not listen again. Appreciate what it accomplished for the genre. Not my cup of tea

Great instrumentation, but like I said for their Bossanova album, the vocals are so off-putting for me. This didn't really change my mind on that thought. Real pity though, the band is amazing, but the singer just really blows it for me Standouts: Debaser, I Bleed, Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone To Heaven, Mr. Grieves No. 13 Baby, Hey, Gouge Away 7,5 out of 10

Didn’t realize I liked The Pixies.

I like this album 3.5

Do not like the opening, stronger middle and end. 6/10

So prior to listening to these albums I thought I liked the pixies a lot more than I did for this album and the other album I listened to already. Hmmm

A few fantastic songs along with some mediocre ones

I've heard the 'Surfer Rosa' album before and wasn't that impressed. This was much better! I've never really understood the (seeming) cult following of the Pixies, but this album definitely feels before it's time. I can't really point out any specific high point other than 'Here Comes Your Man', but overall it held a pretty high bar!I think this might deserve a weak 4, but I'm going to give it a strong 3 instead. Could probably reach a 4 if it was more my type of music and if I listen to it more.

Pixies are really held to high regard but I have never really got them. Album is ok and I really like "Debaser". The rest kind of passed me by.

Good riffs but the vocals let it down

I liked this more than I expected. The songs were mostly fun and energetic, there were none that I wanted to skip over. Maybe a 3.5.

It's punk, if there are any intricacies or nuances, I'm not educated enough to notice them. It's not bad, fun to listen to, but I don't really care for it.

I liked this album as it reminded me a lot of the fast and charging rhythms in the music my brother writes. That alternative rock style and breathless singing with a good riff makes for some energising Monday arvo listening!

yeah, sure. here comes your man

Impressions: The precursor album to my favorite genre of alternative rock and emo. Noting this album. Favorite tracks: I Bleed, La La Love You Rating: 3/5

Great album, really great energy, kinda sounds like Nirvana before Nirvana. High 3.

Schon gut schwer manchmal auch nervig

Some decent singles in there, but not convinced about the rest

Would listen again.

Mixed bag... some great songs, some mediocre songs. Landed in the middle overall.

I was all over the place on this one. 3 star, 4 star, 2 star, and even a little bit 1 star. I’ll give it a 3 star because of nostalgia with Waves of Mutilation being on Rock Band 1 which was a magical time in my life — Freshman year of college in a new state with new friends, all crammed into my tiny dorm room rocking out on Rock Band all year long. I’ll always cherish those times.

Remember and like some of the songs. First time hearing the entire album. Generally enjoyed it!

Pretty decent. 3/5

Ok. Some good riffs.

Probably their most accessible album. Lot of good stuff on here.

Good album.

Definitely some solid tracks on here but it reminds me of working at my dad’s shop and hearing the alt rock on the radio all day which isn’t necessarily a great thing. It’s got a very modern sound that I think a lot of bands tried to copy, but I don’t think I’m a huge fan of alt rock in general. I’ll definitely be returning to a few songs on here, but it’s definitely not my favorite thing that’s come through the generator so far.

Alternative rock not really my style but another seminal album. Leading into the next 20 years of alt rock. Nirvana, Silversun Pickups, etc. Good bass lines. Listened at home just ate breakfast tacos.

Known before: band + some songs Standouts: 10. La La Love You 11. No 13 Baby 13. Hey 6.5

Overall, the album was okay. There are a few songs that stood out and will always be a classic. Waves of Mutilation, Monkey Gone to Heaven, and La La Love You stood out the most on the album.

I liked the aim of this album more than it’s execution.

already listened. pretty good, not massive on it but i know ppl who rly like it

Some hits, all recognizable songs however. I have their greatest hits album which does it for me anyhow.

A day later, I don't remember a thing. Neither positive nor negative.

Fun for a few songs but then it's get a little too same-y for me

Good album overall would go back to some songs to listen again but not all

whole album has a satire feel, over the top at some moments, love the metalish screams followed by rhytmic melodies

Not my type of music. I like loud music, I like quiet music .but this loud quiet loud is not for me

Obviously a classic but loses me in parts - definitely some strong moments but probably wouldn’t sit down to listen the whole thing if I had it on record.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand the pixies

Rocky, folky cake? I feel cool listening to it

This album was hit or miss for me. Some songs - like Wave of Mutilation - I really loved. I wasn’t as fond of some of the others. On balance, it’s probably not an album I’d sit down with again, but I’ll definitely listen to parts of it again.

timeless. reminds me of pulp fiction, hippy art girls & wanting to be indie. good times.

Didn’t finish but was digging it

A bit all over the place with the vocals, but some decent proto-grunge.

Tinny and high treble with angst

Solid 3.7

Good album, not their greatest though.

nice energy. Raw!

Niet alles is even denderend.

I just listened to this album for the first time recently. I am a fan, for a long time I never really understood Pixies. I think im coming around.

Okay album. Had trouble focusing as I didn't find enough variation in sounds to keep me focused. This is 100% a me thing so I can't fault them for it.

Not my stile. Liked a bit the funky rhytm but nothing special to me. 3/5

64/100

n sei pq ta nessa lista pois n tem nada de especial, apenas descente

I don't get it, I'm afraid :( On paper, this should be a perfect album for me - loud, crunchy sounds, yelling random shit into a microphone that sounds like it was bought at a Tesco clearance sale and it's all only 38 minutes long (the perfect album length)! I'm just kind of underwhelmed by it all. It's not bad or anything, but I don't hear the "best alt rock album of all time" thing so many people seem to be hearing. Most songs blended together except for "Here Comes Your Man", "Monkey Gone To Heaven" and "Gouge Away" which were fantastic. Gonna go with a weak 3/5.

This album really showed me how much my ratings are based on my mood. It's not really that different from some albums I've given 1 star. However, I actually enjoyed it. I was not expecting this to be good, because I thought Pixies were some cheesy pop group. But it was just a whole lot of kooky fun. I didn't enjoy all of it, and I'm not sure I'd listen again, but I'm glad I heard it before I die. Pixies just don't take themselves too seriously, and display an admirable willingness to experiment. The album was a wild ride through different styles and feels, which is exactly how I like albums best. You couldn't predict what they were going to do next. Also, there was lots of really interesting timing stuff! I was slightly surprised when I realised I recognised "Here Comes Your Man." It's definitely the most ordinary, straightforward song on hear, but what a classic bass line! Favourite tracks: Silver, Monkey Gone to Heaven

I just don’t see myself returning to this one

I understand how my mom got her nose broken during a gig in 1989 in Berlin

Best Song: Debaser. Really just a wild, slightly unhinged start to the album that, unfortunately, the rest of the album didn't quite live up to. Worst Song: No 13 Baby. The vocal performance got a little too experimental on this one. Overall: Refreshingly chaotic. Spastic in a good way. Even if not every song worked, what worked for me is that it was apparent that the group was playing with their whole hearts. Spirited music.

Everyone that hears I like some good rock, suggests me Pixies. Yet somehow I don't get it. Don't get me wrong, I think they are a great band, but for me they lack something. Their songs don't have the repeatability I expect from good rock songs from good bands.

“Stop Dr. Doolittle’s wave of mutilation before he gets YOUR pet”- PETA ad I thought of while listening Cool album tho

Got kind of excited after Debaser but the album that followed didn’t really live up to it, save one or two songs. Not bad by any means, just weird, prickly, and sort of aimless. There is an interesting mix of pop hooks and hardcore aggression going on; I can see how Nirvana was influenced a lot by this. Best song: Debaser

Second studio album released in April 1989. Great opening into further loudness and noisy, raw sound early on. Can see where later 90s/00s bands get their sound from. There's a nice variation of styles and intensity throughout but the album feels less cohesive as at whole and seems more like scattered tracks. The grungy guitar tone is filthy, lots of highlight tracks.

Loved it, most of the time. Had to "eject" a few. Overall, I liked it and would listen again.

ohhh I was hyped! I heard so much good things about pixies but I was very underwhelmed... Got some nice ones like Debaser but overall not crazy good 6.5/10 (3/5)

as with any band, their strength is in their rhythm section. unfortunately, their main weakness is their vocalist, who often comes across as whiny and nasally. other than that, good songs and i can certainly see the appeal and the influence that this band has had in the alternative music world. highlights: “i bleed”, “crackity jones”, “there goes my gun”.

I was pretty familiar with this album going in. It's got most of the songs of theirs I like on it. Overall it's a good album but some of their stuff just really misses for me.

I can really appreciate what the pixies mean and how influential they were, but when it comes to the music there’s something I’m missing. I’m hoping that I come around eventually but for now I’ll just say they’re fine.

I wanted it to be a 4, and it was close, but it didn't quite lock in for me ,

Not a lot of distinctive stuff but I can see why they're a influence on a lot of alt-rock music today.

-It’s starting off rock-ish -the album cover is very cryptic -A lot of yelling -It doesn’t feel that dated in my opinion -The drums in wave of mutilation are cool Here comes your man fav song No 13 baby least fav Solid outro It’s around 40 minutes which in my opinion is the best album length

Что-то я большей мелодичности ожидал, памятуя их два чудесных хита Where Is My Mind? и All I Think About You Now. Here Comes Your Man,

I, in an incredible lapse of judgement, failed to write notes as I go along, so I'll just keep this short and sweet. Wow, what an interesting pick right out the gate. This kind of album can be a hit or a miss to me. I'm picky about vocal quality and dark lyrics. Sometimes the stuff hits and sometimes it misses. It wasn't until Wave of Mutilation until I felt it. That it really hit. In the end, there were more hits for me than misses, and even when the songs don't land, I still can find something to appreciate from them. And I feel like upon subsequent listens my enjoyment of Doolittle can only grow, now that I know what to expect from it. As an aside, I wish that you can give half points to albums, my correct rating would probably be 3 1/2 stars, to be perfectly honest. I kept hovering between the 3 and the 4 ...

Never been a big fan, but also never actively hated the Pixies. I knew a lot of these songs and found it bearable.

A good little album, something different

A very enjoyable listen. Accessible.

Lots of pieces I likes lots of pieces I didn’t.

It's OK. Nothing ground breaking but an alright album.

Not really into it at this time. But I did appreciate the non-conformity of it all.

Had never heard this one before. It was good. I will listen to it again.

One of those albums that I listened to and didn't even know it until the next album came on. Just basically one long song.

This album has a ton of elements to it and its 15 songs in 40 minutes covers a lot of differing sounds and styles. It’s pretty impressive and I’ve never really listened to the Pixies before. This was an album that has good replay value and I would revisit it. It sounds like it had influence in weeper, smashing pumpkins and similar artists. 7.2/10

Some real bangers but way too inconsistent to give top marks ⭐⭐⭐

Not as weird as I expected but definitely angry at times. Angry surf vibes

The trifecta of Hey, Silver, and Gouge Away right at the end hit pretty hard but otherwise I wasn't crazy about this one.

Good punk rock.

eh 2 affected the greatest bands.

It’s ok

Never been a huge Pixies fan. Still not

Some songs were better than others. It wasn't bad.

I'm very conflicted about this album. Obviously it's great but I can't stop myself from feeling a little "off" about it. Past me who loved this genre more than I do now wouldn't have liked this album as much as I wasn't really able to appreciate truly good music back then. But present me is a little burned out on alternative rock so even though I can see what makes this album great I don't enjoy it as much as I feel I could. Oh well... I'll probably revisit this particular review in a couple of years thinking how stupid I was when I wrote it.

here comes my ass

- Debaser: Nice opener to the album. Instrumentals was great and not over the top. 7/10 - Tame: I like the bass line; very catchy. Overall not bad song. 7/10 - Wave of Mutilation: Gutiars sound great. Melody and notes sound great. 7/10 - I Bleed: Bass and drums are great and carry the song through. 6/10 - Here Comes Your Man: Decent song overall. 5/10 - Dead: Okay. 5/10 - Monkey Gone to Heaven: Rhythm is great. Bass and guitar and drums are really nice. Vocals are great and chorus is as well. 8/10 - Mr. Grieves: Reggae vibes in the beginning was cool. Rest of the sing was okay. 5/10 - Crackity Jones: Okay. Kinda like the chaotic sound of it. 5/10 - La La Love You: Beginning was good. The guitar line was good. Wish they did more with this track. 6/10 - No 13 Baby: I like the vocal style in this track. Guitar was good towards the end. 6/10 - There Goes My Gun: Chorus melody is good, catchy. Simple but good. 8/10 - Hey: Mid section was groovy and chill. We're chained part sounds nice. 6/10 - Silver: 3/4 is nice. Pretty good overall. Like the sound. 8/10 - Gouge Away: Bass carries great. Good to close the album. 6/10

Its okay! The sound hasn’t aged very well to my ears but not a bad album.

Busy old album that, lots of different styles and influences packaged up together. Some I like a lot, some less so. Good overall.

Enjoyed this. I've never owned, nor even felt particularly compelled to own, a single album by the Pixies. My experience has always been that the ones I've heard were too much of a mixed bag for my tastes; the good stuff is real good and the stuff that didn't grab me didn't seem like it would EVER grab me, not even on repeat listens. Well, I know I've heard this one before and you know what? I probably indeed liked it more than the last time I listened to it. But gosh darnit, it still feels too long with too many songs that aren't "Here Comes Your Man." But I enjoyed "Debaser" and "Tame" and a few others, so who knows? Maybe there's hope for me yet, Craig. (I think he's on vacation, so I could probably say ANYTHING right now. Eat farts, Craig!) But there's no way this album is only 38 minutes long. That doesn't track with my brain. Felt longer than that, but math is math. I'll give this another listen.

Never really listened to anything by the Pixies before. I like their sound.

Call me a heretic … never loved them Not down on it but never got what others seemed to get Preferred brit punk pop sounds (Well I am a Brit) Prefer Bob Mould as a songwriter

Amazing guitar riffs throughout but some songs fall short of the rest but is refreshing with different styles across the album. The strangeness of “Monkey goes to heaven” was surprising and very entertaining musically.

3.5 Some great tracks. Standouts: Here Comes Your Man, Others: Monkey Gone to Heaven, La La Love You, Debaser, Gouge Away

Not bad

It's weird, I think we started with Surfer Rosa, which I loved, and every other Pixies album that we've gotten has been less interesting than the last. It's just fine grunge-y rock music, without much bite to me. Still decent, but slipped out of my consciousness almost immediately. Favorite tracks: Wave of Mutilation, Gouge Away. Album art: Funny monke. 3/5

Good with a couple of favorites. I've yet to listen to a Pixies album & be completely moved.

Good melodies, loved the vibe, found the vocal was a bit annoying at points.

I'm not a huge fan of the Pixies, but I actually thought this was alright. It's not my type of music, but I did not (overly) dislike this album.

kinda reminds me of 90s sitcom rock lol

So very 1989. Only recognizable was Here Comes Your Man.

Not sure why I haven't listened to a Pixies album before. Equally I wasn't overly wowed, just fine? I can imagine if you loved them being at a sweaty gig shouting along to the lyrics.

This is the second Pixies album that I've gotten and I only am really familiar with their "Where is My Mind" song. I am enjoying this album much more than the other, it still isn't something that I'd listen to regularly.

A couple good songs, but I've never been a big Pixies fan.

Grungey goodness

S’alright. Not totally my thing but I did not shudder at the thought of listening to it like some albums.

Decent album liked the different song styles.

It was alright.

Listened Before? N Oh this was a good one! I can hear the outgoing influence for every 90s alternative band ever. This makes me feel like I'm dating an alt-girl in 1992, in a good way. Fun times. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Wave of Mutilation

It’s Pixies

Hadn't realized how many of these songs I've heard. They're all pretty good and enjoyable. Not sure if this is an essential album, though. High 3, but not quite 4 level.

Why are there three Pixies albums on this list? Honestly, all you need is this one and folks get the point. The Pixies are the consummate artist's artist for the whole grunge era of musicians and this album was the inspirational darling of the bunch. It also represents their greatest commercial success. So, you've got to give them credit for that.

Indie.

Give it a rough 5/10. Quite an interesting listen with a few great stand out tracks, like really great, but a fair few tracks felt underbaked and like half of a song. Loved the vocals and bass guitar throughout. With a runtime of 39 mins it’s quite a short album but 15 tracks felt a bit much and made a short album feel slightly bloated. Would be much better with 11 or so tracks which were longer and padded out a bit more

Listening to this album reminded me of making out with boys who were too old for me and pretending to understand poetry. I actually really like Here Comes Your Man, There Goes My Gun, and Hey.

klassikkohitit toimii, erityisesti Hey. Pixiesiä parhaimmillaan, tästä on suunta vain alaspäin. hieman kuuluu jo ysärin kolahtelut, hauskaa

This was kind of surprising. I didn't realize there were so many influence on this album

Beginning of the album was chaotic in a bad way, tempo of vocal and instruments didn't line up at all. But after the first few songs the chaos works really well

Decent seeds of indie rock

I like it. Not my particular style of music but still a good listen. I'm notable I would listen to it again tho.

Not quite as revolutionary as I expected. Probably too late for me to listen to regularly. My tastes have moved on.

Always liked Here Comes Your Man but nothing memorable about the rest of the cuts

When I was younger I hated this band. Now I kinds get it. Not a bad album

Very enjoyable album. Favorite track: No 13 Baby

First two songs have a bass intro, that's kinda neat. I love that it sounds like it was recorded in someone's garage. Here Comes Your Man kind of sounds like an R.E.M. song Albums in the same genre released this year: Nirvana - Bleach Faith no More - The Real Thing Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood The Cult - Sonic Temple Not my preference in music but I definitely appreciate the half punk half rock garage band feel. Probably going to hit it with a 7 or 3.5 whatever the scale is. Favorite song: Hey or Wave of Mutilation

Hadde bare hørt Wave of Mutilation før, som eg egentlig ikkje like så godt, men ikkje så dårlig heller forsåvidt

Pretty fun album, but not sure it lives up to the hype. I guess you had to be there.

I didn't like the beginning so much, too punky. Later on it got a bit better, but didn't really grab me. Overall not too annoyed so will give benefit of the doubt and a 3 star instead of 2.

Overall I was quite pleasantly surprised, but I'm not sure yet whether I'll really listen to this in the long run. None of the songs individually really grabbed me, however I will commit to another listen.

Steady good album. Didn't blew my mind, but still solid. Hey and Here Comes Your Man are good classics.

A bit intense, noisy and too rock-heavy for me, as shown by tracks like 'Tame'. I do, however, like the tracks: 'Here Comes Your Man', 'Monkey Gone To Heaven', 'Hey' and 'Gouge Away'. 4 songs out of 15 I like. Standout track: 'Hey'. 3 stars.

Good Album, The Pixies have some great tracks, I wish I heard them when they came out.

Messy album

Solid listen. I'm sure they were ground-breaking and hugely influential, but it just sounds like good energetic indie rock.

Bueno pero no de mi gusto

I think I like Surfer Rosa a bit better, but I love "Here Comes Your Man"!

Really enjoyed this! This list has made me into a Pixies fan as I never really listened to them much. The vocals are so straightforward (that sounds like a dig but I swear it's not!) and approachable. I love "Here Comes Your Man" and I thought it was like a 50s cover song but it's not!

Prima, maar niks aparts. Vroeg voor hun tijd

Not bad. Maybe not my favorite, but cool punk-ish.

Unique, a lot of sounds I still hear in music today. A little chaotic at times which makes it a bit hard to listen to continually at times, but still worth the listen.

It was interesting how the album felt like multiple genres. I enjoyed it, might listen again sometime

Solid punk sound

I'm left a little perplexed by Doolittle. There are great surf flourishes, and obviously a lot of space within the music from which to love it. The poppiness is just a clear a line to grunge as was advertised, though the Pixies lay down more musical material than your average album in that vein. But many songs feel like they could use thirty more seconds or one additional instrument, and, space or no space, that makes me hedgy.

Never was a fan of the Pixies but the album was good all the way through. Am I a fan now? No but I do like them a little more now.

Pretty dark until you hear “here comes your man”. Did they sneak that song in thinking people wouldnt notice?

Had its moments

Little bit too aggressive and all over the place for me, yet still not bad enough to be worse than 3

yir boi

Indie. Un megahit. Ni fu ni fa.

👍👍

Pretty good, couple of really great songs.

Some of the rock and roll here was great but man the singers voice was sometimes insufferable. Here Comes Your Man outshines the rest of the album by far for me.

Heard a lot about the Pixies, so finally an album of them and I was not disappointed. I like their sound, he has a good voice and the guitars sound amazing. Favourite songs: - Debaser - Here comes your man

couple of great singles, but some shite too

Good band, something like to be near of the punk movement. LIke it.

Fucking strange, in a good way.

Pretty good

It was kinda ok I guess their second album sucked maybe

I've listened to the Pixies before. They're just "okay" for me. I understand that they are influential but their music is dull to me. The album as a whole was good but the individual songs weren't memorable.

This is not the type of music I listen to too but I have to say it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. Mediocre at best.

Un viaje a la adolescencia. Qué bien suenan los Pixies.

Love/Hate relationship with this one. So much musical potential then they start screaming and beating on their instruments. Poignant lyrically, with a lot of angst and political strife.

Didn't expect to like this one but I did. Probably not enough to listen often but good enough for today.

I've never got into the Pixies. Nothing has ever grabbed my attention to make me want to. This was no different. I'll give it three though because I can't deny the huge impact they have made.

Great album. Couple of weaker tracks but otherwise pop perfection. And has lasted really well too!

Achei meio crú.

This is the first time I've listened to a Pixies album. Overall I enjoyed it. I preferred the poppier moments, so not sure I necessarily expect to love the rest of the back catalogue. When this is good, it's really good, but a little inconsistent. 3.5/5

I've still never intently listed to an entire Pixies record all the way through. Here goes... Yep, still can't stand that guys voice. Which is weird, because I'm totally cool with listening to the slacker vocals of Pavement. The music is cool ("Here comes my man" is great). In fact, when I was first starting my college band (Those Transatlantics), I remember a friend saying my guitars were like the Pixies. Huh. Had definitely never heard them at that point. Then, I joined a band (FAWNN) that arguably sounds like the Pixies in almost every way. Still didn't take the time to listen to the Pixies. Yeah yeah yeah, they're cool. And, I guess in some ways they represent a current of music that fed directly into the previous record (Hole's "Celebrity Skin"). So, for that, I'll give it a strong 3.

Surfer Rosa was a fine debut album and they got even better with this their second. They released three solid singles from this album, and IMO Monkey is the best song in their canon. Unfortunately the rest of the album doesn’t live up to the same standard as the three singles so I “like” this album, which indicates a three star rating, but I don’t “love” it which would have bumped them up to four stars in my book.

Bastante psicodélico I guess?

Standout Tracks: Here Comes Your Man; Mr Grieves; Skipped Tracks: Silver. There were also a couple that I was just like 'eh, this isn't for me'- Tame comes to mind Summary: It's a good album if you like Pixies. Unfortunately, I am indifferent to Pixies

Standard Pixes fare. Very distinct style and sound.

Good but not great! Admittedly I was not the most focused while listening.

Hints of interesting stuff here, but the low-fi, scattered approach ends up detracting instead of adding. More focus would make this a much better album.

I've heard it hundred times before, its not bad, just not amazing

the pixies are a pretty boring band tbh

I liked it, though I don't know when I would be in the mood to listen to something like this again.

Quite a good one. Not a fan of most songs in it to be honest, but the ones that I liked were quite good.
