Reviews (page 12 of 14)
Lots of pieces I likes lots of pieces I didn’t.
It's OK. Nothing ground breaking but an alright album.
Not really into it at this time. But I did appreciate the non-conformity of it all.
Had never heard this one before. It was good. I will listen to it again.
One of those albums that I listened to and didn't even know it until the next album came on. Just basically one long song.
This album has a ton of elements to it and its 15 songs in 40 minutes covers a lot of differing sounds and styles. It’s pretty impressive and I’ve never really listened to the Pixies before. This was an album that has good replay value and I would revisit it. It sounds like it had influence in weeper, smashing pumpkins and similar artists. 7.2/10
Some real bangers but way too inconsistent to give top marks ⭐⭐⭐
Not as weird as I expected but definitely angry at times. Angry surf vibes
The trifecta of Hey, Silver, and Gouge Away right at the end hit pretty hard but otherwise I wasn't crazy about this one.
Good punk rock.
eh 2 affected the greatest bands.
It’s ok
Never been a huge Pixies fan. Still not
Some songs were better than others. It wasn't bad.
I'm very conflicted about this album. Obviously it's great but I can't stop myself from feeling a little "off" about it. Past me who loved this genre more than I do now wouldn't have liked this album as much as I wasn't really able to appreciate truly good music back then. But present me is a little burned out on alternative rock so even though I can see what makes this album great I don't enjoy it as much as I feel I could. Oh well... I'll probably revisit this particular review in a couple of years thinking how stupid I was when I wrote it.
here comes my ass
- Debaser: Nice opener to the album. Instrumentals was great and not over the top. 7/10 - Tame: I like the bass line; very catchy. Overall not bad song. 7/10 - Wave of Mutilation: Gutiars sound great. Melody and notes sound great. 7/10 - I Bleed: Bass and drums are great and carry the song through. 6/10 - Here Comes Your Man: Decent song overall. 5/10 - Dead: Okay. 5/10 - Monkey Gone to Heaven: Rhythm is great. Bass and guitar and drums are really nice. Vocals are great and chorus is as well. 8/10 - Mr. Grieves: Reggae vibes in the beginning was cool. Rest of the sing was okay. 5/10 - Crackity Jones: Okay. Kinda like the chaotic sound of it. 5/10 - La La Love You: Beginning was good. The guitar line was good. Wish they did more with this track. 6/10 - No 13 Baby: I like the vocal style in this track. Guitar was good towards the end. 6/10 - There Goes My Gun: Chorus melody is good, catchy. Simple but good. 8/10 - Hey: Mid section was groovy and chill. We're chained part sounds nice. 6/10 - Silver: 3/4 is nice. Pretty good overall. Like the sound. 8/10 - Gouge Away: Bass carries great. Good to close the album. 6/10
Its okay! The sound hasn’t aged very well to my ears but not a bad album.
Busy old album that, lots of different styles and influences packaged up together. Some I like a lot, some less so. Good overall.
Enjoyed this. I've never owned, nor even felt particularly compelled to own, a single album by the Pixies. My experience has always been that the ones I've heard were too much of a mixed bag for my tastes; the good stuff is real good and the stuff that didn't grab me didn't seem like it would EVER grab me, not even on repeat listens. Well, I know I've heard this one before and you know what? I probably indeed liked it more than the last time I listened to it. But gosh darnit, it still feels too long with too many songs that aren't "Here Comes Your Man." But I enjoyed "Debaser" and "Tame" and a few others, so who knows? Maybe there's hope for me yet, Craig. (I think he's on vacation, so I could probably say ANYTHING right now. Eat farts, Craig!) But there's no way this album is only 38 minutes long. That doesn't track with my brain. Felt longer than that, but math is math. I'll give this another listen.
Never really listened to anything by the Pixies before. I like their sound.
Call me a heretic … never loved them Not down on it but never got what others seemed to get Preferred brit punk pop sounds (Well I am a Brit) Prefer Bob Mould as a songwriter
Amazing guitar riffs throughout but some songs fall short of the rest but is refreshing with different styles across the album. The strangeness of “Monkey goes to heaven” was surprising and very entertaining musically.
3.5 Some great tracks. Standouts: Here Comes Your Man, Others: Monkey Gone to Heaven, La La Love You, Debaser, Gouge Away
Not bad
It's weird, I think we started with Surfer Rosa, which I loved, and every other Pixies album that we've gotten has been less interesting than the last. It's just fine grunge-y rock music, without much bite to me. Still decent, but slipped out of my consciousness almost immediately. Favorite tracks: Wave of Mutilation, Gouge Away. Album art: Funny monke. 3/5
Good with a couple of favorites. I've yet to listen to a Pixies album & be completely moved.
Good melodies, loved the vibe, found the vocal was a bit annoying at points.
I'm not a huge fan of the Pixies, but I actually thought this was alright. It's not my type of music, but I did not (overly) dislike this album.
kinda reminds me of 90s sitcom rock lol
So very 1989. Only recognizable was Here Comes Your Man.
Not sure why I haven't listened to a Pixies album before. Equally I wasn't overly wowed, just fine? I can imagine if you loved them being at a sweaty gig shouting along to the lyrics.
This is the second Pixies album that I've gotten and I only am really familiar with their "Where is My Mind" song. I am enjoying this album much more than the other, it still isn't something that I'd listen to regularly.
A couple good songs, but I've never been a big Pixies fan.
Grungey goodness
S’alright. Not totally my thing but I did not shudder at the thought of listening to it like some albums.
Decent album liked the different song styles.
It was alright.
Listened Before? N Oh this was a good one! I can hear the outgoing influence for every 90s alternative band ever. This makes me feel like I'm dating an alt-girl in 1992, in a good way. Fun times. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Wave of Mutilation
good
It’s Pixies
Hadn't realized how many of these songs I've heard. They're all pretty good and enjoyable. Not sure if this is an essential album, though. High 3, but not quite 4 level.
Why are there three Pixies albums on this list? Honestly, all you need is this one and folks get the point. The Pixies are the consummate artist's artist for the whole grunge era of musicians and this album was the inspirational darling of the bunch. It also represents their greatest commercial success. So, you've got to give them credit for that.
Indie.
Give it a rough 5/10. Quite an interesting listen with a few great stand out tracks, like really great, but a fair few tracks felt underbaked and like half of a song. Loved the vocals and bass guitar throughout. With a runtime of 39 mins it’s quite a short album but 15 tracks felt a bit much and made a short album feel slightly bloated. Would be much better with 11 or so tracks which were longer and padded out a bit more
Listening to this album reminded me of making out with boys who were too old for me and pretending to understand poetry. I actually really like Here Comes Your Man, There Goes My Gun, and Hey.
klassikkohitit toimii, erityisesti Hey. Pixiesiä parhaimmillaan, tästä on suunta vain alaspäin. hieman kuuluu jo ysärin kolahtelut, hauskaa
This was kind of surprising. I didn't realize there were so many influence on this album
Beginning of the album was chaotic in a bad way, tempo of vocal and instruments didn't line up at all. But after the first few songs the chaos works really well
Decent seeds of indie rock
I like it. Not my particular style of music but still a good listen. I'm notable I would listen to it again tho.
Not quite as revolutionary as I expected. Probably too late for me to listen to regularly. My tastes have moved on.
Always liked Here Comes Your Man but nothing memorable about the rest of the cuts
When I was younger I hated this band. Now I kinds get it. Not a bad album
Very enjoyable album. Favorite track: No 13 Baby
good
First two songs have a bass intro, that's kinda neat. I love that it sounds like it was recorded in someone's garage. Here Comes Your Man kind of sounds like an R.E.M. song Albums in the same genre released this year: Nirvana - Bleach Faith no More - The Real Thing Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood The Cult - Sonic Temple Not my preference in music but I definitely appreciate the half punk half rock garage band feel. Probably going to hit it with a 7 or 3.5 whatever the scale is. Favorite song: Hey or Wave of Mutilation
Hadde bare hørt Wave of Mutilation før, som eg egentlig ikkje like så godt, men ikkje så dårlig heller forsåvidt
Pretty fun album, but not sure it lives up to the hype. I guess you had to be there.
I didn't like the beginning so much, too punky. Later on it got a bit better, but didn't really grab me. Overall not too annoyed so will give benefit of the doubt and a 3 star instead of 2.
Overall I was quite pleasantly surprised, but I'm not sure yet whether I'll really listen to this in the long run. None of the songs individually really grabbed me, however I will commit to another listen.
Steady good album. Didn't blew my mind, but still solid. Hey and Here Comes Your Man are good classics.
A bit intense, noisy and too rock-heavy for me, as shown by tracks like 'Tame'. I do, however, like the tracks: 'Here Comes Your Man', 'Monkey Gone To Heaven', 'Hey' and 'Gouge Away'. 4 songs out of 15 I like. Standout track: 'Hey'. 3 stars.
Good Album, The Pixies have some great tracks, I wish I heard them when they came out.
Messy album
Solid listen. I'm sure they were ground-breaking and hugely influential, but it just sounds like good energetic indie rock.
Bueno pero no de mi gusto
I think I like Surfer Rosa a bit better, but I love "Here Comes Your Man"!
Really enjoyed this! This list has made me into a Pixies fan as I never really listened to them much. The vocals are so straightforward (that sounds like a dig but I swear it's not!) and approachable. I love "Here Comes Your Man" and I thought it was like a 50s cover song but it's not!
Prima, maar niks aparts. Vroeg voor hun tijd
Not bad. Maybe not my favorite, but cool punk-ish.
Unique, a lot of sounds I still hear in music today. A little chaotic at times which makes it a bit hard to listen to continually at times, but still worth the listen.
It was interesting how the album felt like multiple genres. I enjoyed it, might listen again sometime
Solid punk sound
I'm left a little perplexed by Doolittle. There are great surf flourishes, and obviously a lot of space within the music from which to love it. The poppiness is just a clear a line to grunge as was advertised, though the Pixies lay down more musical material than your average album in that vein. But many songs feel like they could use thirty more seconds or one additional instrument, and, space or no space, that makes me hedgy.
Never was a fan of the Pixies but the album was good all the way through. Am I a fan now? No but I do like them a little more now.
Pretty dark until you hear “here comes your man”. Did they sneak that song in thinking people wouldnt notice?
Had its moments
Little bit too aggressive and all over the place for me, yet still not bad enough to be worse than 3
yir boi
Indie. Un megahit. Ni fu ni fa.
👍👍
Pretty good, couple of really great songs.
Some of the rock and roll here was great but man the singers voice was sometimes insufferable. Here Comes Your Man outshines the rest of the album by far for me.
Heard a lot about the Pixies, so finally an album of them and I was not disappointed. I like their sound, he has a good voice and the guitars sound amazing. Favourite songs: - Debaser - Here comes your man
couple of great singles, but some shite too
Good band, something like to be near of the punk movement. LIke it.
Fucking strange, in a good way.
Pretty good
It was kinda ok I guess their second album sucked maybe
I've listened to the Pixies before. They're just "okay" for me. I understand that they are influential but their music is dull to me. The album as a whole was good but the individual songs weren't memorable.
This is not the type of music I listen to too but I have to say it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. Mediocre at best.
Un viaje a la adolescencia. Qué bien suenan los Pixies.
Love/Hate relationship with this one. So much musical potential then they start screaming and beating on their instruments. Poignant lyrically, with a lot of angst and political strife.
Didn't expect to like this one but I did. Probably not enough to listen often but good enough for today.
I've never got into the Pixies. Nothing has ever grabbed my attention to make me want to. This was no different. I'll give it three though because I can't deny the huge impact they have made.
Great album. Couple of weaker tracks but otherwise pop perfection. And has lasted really well too!
Achei meio crú.
This is the first time I've listened to a Pixies album. Overall I enjoyed it. I preferred the poppier moments, so not sure I necessarily expect to love the rest of the back catalogue. When this is good, it's really good, but a little inconsistent. 3.5/5
I've still never intently listed to an entire Pixies record all the way through. Here goes... Yep, still can't stand that guys voice. Which is weird, because I'm totally cool with listening to the slacker vocals of Pavement. The music is cool ("Here comes my man" is great). In fact, when I was first starting my college band (Those Transatlantics), I remember a friend saying my guitars were like the Pixies. Huh. Had definitely never heard them at that point. Then, I joined a band (FAWNN) that arguably sounds like the Pixies in almost every way. Still didn't take the time to listen to the Pixies. Yeah yeah yeah, they're cool. And, I guess in some ways they represent a current of music that fed directly into the previous record (Hole's "Celebrity Skin"). So, for that, I'll give it a strong 3.
Surfer Rosa was a fine debut album and they got even better with this their second. They released three solid singles from this album, and IMO Monkey is the best song in their canon. Unfortunately the rest of the album doesn’t live up to the same standard as the three singles so I “like” this album, which indicates a three star rating, but I don’t “love” it which would have bumped them up to four stars in my book.
Bastante psicodélico I guess?
Standout Tracks: Here Comes Your Man; Mr Grieves; Skipped Tracks: Silver. There were also a couple that I was just like 'eh, this isn't for me'- Tame comes to mind Summary: It's a good album if you like Pixies. Unfortunately, I am indifferent to Pixies
6/10
Standard Pixes fare. Very distinct style and sound.
Good but not great! Admittedly I was not the most focused while listening.
Hints of interesting stuff here, but the low-fi, scattered approach ends up detracting instead of adding. More focus would make this a much better album.
I've heard it hundred times before, its not bad, just not amazing
the pixies are a pretty boring band tbh
I liked it, though I don't know when I would be in the mood to listen to something like this again.
Quite a good one. Not a fan of most songs in it to be honest, but the ones that I liked were quite good.
Verdict: It's complicated.
The hits are good, the rest is meh, but short enough that it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome.
More angsty than I would have guessed. Here Comes Your Man is dope. Still looking for my mind.
fun grimey stuff, they have a very recognisable sound which I do like. Don't know how likely I'd be to come back to this though, 3.5
decent alternative rock album i suppose
A bit less chaotic than the earlier album i heard of theirs, and worse off for it. Good solid rock still.
Bossanova came up a few months ago, and even though the critics like Doolittle better, my preference is probably Bossanova. Some good songs on Doolittle, especially Here Comes Your Man and La La Love you. Otherwise, found this one to be just a little flat. 3.4/5
For some almost biblical in it's awesomeness. For me, decent alt-rock.
I have to say, 'I bleed' was difficult to listen to. Noise. So much noise! I liked some tracks and there were so many really good riffs and catchy tunes. Just too much noise for me.
Fresh! Better than i thought it would be
I liked this album better than "Surfer Rosa", which has my favorite track from the Pixies. I knew three tracks from Doolittle, which were my favorites from this review: "Wave of Mutilation", "Here Comes Your Man" & "Monkey Gone to Heaven". The album had a level of noise that you'd expect from the Pixies, but a couple tracks ("Tame", "Crackity Jones") were noisy and chaotic enough to dip down into the "no thanks" category. I liked the album, but probably won't come back for a full re-listen.
I enjoyed a couple of tracks, but most of it didn't do much for me
Fine in places but I struggle in others. Fine album but unlikely to listen in a sitting.
Weird as fuck, but a decent enough listen.
Some great tracks that I hadn't heard before. Can definitely see the influence on grunge, metal, and punk.
really weird at some times but liked some songs!
edgy
(Accidentally listened on shuffle) I quite liked this album. The variety of vocals across the album was cool - shouty vocals across the whole album would wear me out pretty quick. Clean simple basslines were tasty on tracks like Gouge Away. Particularly liked Monkey Gone to Heaven and Here Comes Your Man.
Never really given Pixies much of a chance before. Only listened (and enjoyed) their bigger hits but never ventured much deeper and I’m pleasantly surprised with this album. I think they’re a little overrated by pseudo music purist twats who ping out ridiculous opinions to make themselves feel clever and inferior to others. It’s not the best album of all time or anything but it’s decent, easy listening with big bass riffs and has some great tunes on it such as HCYM and Debaser. If I could, I would give it a 3.5. Fuck this voting system.
3.6
3/5 okayish album
Tämä kuulosti minun korvaan aika samalta kuin edellinen arvosteltu levy "The Strokes - Is This It".
I got modest mouse vibes, kinda punk guitar alt or something
I liked to know more about Pixies, which I already like, but this album is fine. Nothing so special that deserves too much highlight, but very nice songs.
Solid album - 3.5; particularly enjoyed the second half, but still prefer Surfer Rosa
Strong guitar hero vibes
3 taugt schon
Also ich finds gut, würds mir aber nie wieder anhörn
Ok, interesting
Pretty decent rock 3.2
not too bad
it was fine :)
I'm not the biggest Pixies fan, but the good songs on this album are really good.
Can really hear the direct line from this to MGB. Here Comes Your Man and Where Is My Mind are glorious. 3.5 rounded down, prob wouldn't re-listen.
Here Comes Your Man oli hyvä kappale, jonka tyylisiä olisi kuullut mielellään enemmänkin.
It was a good album but I just personally didn't enjoy it.
Needs more listening
Not for me
I was already very much a fan of the song “Debaser” thanks to my days of playing NCAA Football ‘06, so I had hear some Pixies before this listen through. The album’s sound feels very much ahead of its time for being the late 80s. All in all, it was an enjoyable listen, though I probably won’t revisit it that often.
Best songs: Here comes your man, La la love you, Hey Worst songs: I bleed nice bass tone weird vocals 7/10
Ihan ok. Bändin tuotantoa lähinnä hittibiisin verran tuntevana odotin enemmän. Ei kuitenkaan paskakaan.
I like it better than most mainstream Pixies stuff.
Here comes your man
Meh. Not my jam
Pas terrible terrible derrière les gros titres.
I wasn’t a fan of the vocals at all. I disliked the screaming and the breathy talking parts. Some of the songs just sounded like discordant noise passing as music. Wasn’t for me. Theyinspired a lot of great 90s alt rock and grunge, but those later bands did it way better in my opinion.
I truthfully don’t know if I liked what I just listened to. The music was pretty good, but at times the vocals threw everything off. There were tracks that I enjoyed that would then be followed up by two that I didn’t. Much like this album, I’m very confused. I’m calling it just shy of decent based on the fact that I didn’t listen to the Pixies in the 80’s and still being confused by them today.
I dunno, I mean I like their sound, but every song starts, and I'm like, yup, it's another Pixies song. The couple of gems are ones I knew from the radio or friends. The rest are decent, but hearing them for the first time, I'm not super excited to be hearing something new. Halfway through I was tired of it. Is it 2 stars because I lost interest? or 3 stars because it's good for its genre? I'm on song 12 and am resentful I have to listen to two more songs. I'm inclined to give it 2 stars. There should be more than 2 great tunes out of 14 to justify ranking high on anyone's list.
I'm a fan of alt rock and I was happy to vibe to some of this, but it was a bit one-note for me personally. I appreciate that it spawned a lot of alt rock and is seminal in the genre, and while I thank it for its service, I prefer its descendants. "Here Comes Your Man" is the standout for me. Rating: 2.5
Not quite to my taste but some great song ideas on there. More of a vibe than actual accomplished songs but in the genre it sits in this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Hey, Silver being stand outs.
Always enjoyed “Here Comes Your Man” and it was my first time listening to the rest of the album. I wasn’t missing anything.
I expected more from this album
Some of the songs are bad lyrically 3.27/10
2/5.
I want to like it. I want to like it. Sometimes it's good, other times it's repulsive. Singing like nails on chalkboard. A me problem, but kind of their fault too.
Kinda shit
Molto caotico, non mi ha detto molto
Can't hear their screams
cavernicolas
This genre, with screeching inaudible lyrics and thrash metal sound, is not really my cup of tea. Some songs ok, but not something I would choose to revisit.
Based on what I listen to I should love this album, but I just don't. I appreciate they are responsible for the sound of a ton of indie bands today, but I am just not a fan. 4.25/10 Top song Debaser
Oh dear. What is it about the Pixies? Preposterous claim on Genius: "In 1988, the Pixies sounded like no other band. By 1991, every band sounded like the Pixies.” Second statement is overstatement so crude I disregard it, I think first statement also ridiculous because there had been more than enough other bands that routinely 'found' simple bass and guitar riffs which didn't quite go together, and then did shouty on top. My bigger problem, this album does "ooh we're edgy" in a mostly charmless fashion. Simple songs with small ideas stretched till they’re see-through. Singer's tone is so posturing. Lyrics gesture at quirkiness but lack inventiveness. Putting words like 'whore' and 'sacred' into your lyrics isn't enough to make the song 'deep'. It's Pretty Poor, 3/10.
Day 4 - 2112 by Rush Not the album we needed for a chilled Sunday at home… made it through the first 20 minute song. Great guitar but not the vibe of the day… 3/10
i didnt like it - 5/24/2026
La verdad no me gustó el disco
Not quite my cup of tea, but I've listened to "Here Comes Your Man" before, and that was the only song I bop my head to.
so so
They are so highly regarded but to me this is the worst. A combination of styles and choices I cannot get into.
No real vivacity; Unsynchronised to the point of mild annoyance.
The bass sound very boring
Ass
I hate the fact they chose such a cool band name but they wasted it on such a lame ass album.
Weird grungy cafe music? At least I could listen to it while working.
not really my vibe. Some of the songs were good, but overall found it just ok. maybe I need to hear it again and again to like it more.
Well, there are plenty of people who think the Pixies are great. I, however, have never really understood that. Now that I'm listening to this album, it still doesn't click with me.
Not bad album from Pixies
wasn't really my scene couldnt get into it
I AM UN- CHEN! ANDALUSIA!
The album wasn't that bad, there was some good ones, and some shit ones. I don't think I rock with rock, but wasn't bad. I liked the beats a lot ngl but everything else was a meh.
Not my type
This album is not horrible, but compared to Surfer Rosa it’s low key an embarrassment. Songwriting-wise its just ok. There's some standout moments in "Gouge Away," "Debaser" and maybe "There Goes My Gun." There is certainly nothing on this album that even comes close to "Where's My Mind?" Kim Deal is the best part of this band but she's the backup vocalist. If only she had her own band oh wait she does and their debut album shreds this record to pieces. Additionally, this album is so thoroughly productionmogged by Surfer Rosa, an album that cost THIRTY THOUSAND LESS dollars and took 1/3 of the time to produce, that you have to wonder if they were just sat around in the studio wiping their asses with 100 dollar bills and hunting around for the most expensive piece of equipment to do lines of blow off of. Why is everything so smoothed over with fake reverb and compression? The guitars on Surfer Rosa sound RAW AS FUCK! Why does the kick drum sound like one of those rubber pop-up toys? "Where's My Mind?" has one of the fattest drum sounds OF ALL TIME! Isn't this a punk band?? I cannot even imagine the pain that Steve Albini felt hearing this album for the first time, may his soul rest in eternal peace. Anyway this is a 5/10 I spent too much time malding while reading the Wiki page for this album at work today.
no es mi onda
Something bothers me about this album. It's too simple, but not in a perfect or passionate way... more out of laziness, like they had to write all the songs in a weekend.
longest 38 minutes of my life lowkey but i did end up liking 6/15 of the songs so a win is a win
Not my thing, but I respect it. Also I listened to this in traffic so that didn’t help.
Instrumentals were good but the vocals weren’t it for me
Its okay, like I get it but its a pass from me.
Pusieron el mismo tema unas 7 veces
Worst song: "Tame" What was with all the screaming? Best song: "Here Comes Your Man". The album was okay.
El unico tema que me gustó es Here Comes Your Man, temon igual.
Not my type
I like the instrumentals almost as much as I dislike the vocals. hey was okay but all the other songs kinda bled together on the trog scale I would give it a 2/5
love the instruemtnals. hate the vocals. it just makes the songs uglier if that makes sense. 3/10
Competent rock and roll and songwriting. Competent to marginal musicianship. Not enough to grab my interest or give me a reason to listen to them again. I do understand why so many people love them. They brought something new to the game.
It was ok
I stil don’t like Pixies, but this at least has got “Here Comes Your Man” and “Monkey Gone to Heaven” on it. A 2.5* really, but definitely not a 3*.
ass im sry i really disliked it i didnt even finish it 💀 definitely not my music taste only like 2-3 NOT EVEN good songs
Favorite tracks: Gouge Away
Pretty average album. Too heavy
eh. wasn’t my speed so i didn’t finish
Fairly fun for the first half, but they just don't impress me the way PJ Harvey did (which feels kind of wild to say as Pixies are definitely more accessible). Did love the sweet 60s feel to Here Comes Your Man. Second half was particularly boring - can't believe teh whole album is LESS THAT 40 minutes?! Felt like a lifetime.
Punk rock just isn't my jam, more like a 2.5 rating
Feels like typical rock. Favourite track: Here comes your man
Weird and noisy
Not bad
Bof
gefällt mir nicht wirklich.
Singer didn't really sound right to me
This was pretty bad, pretty meh accompaniment on top of awful vocals but I guess it didn't ruin my day
Meh it's whatever, not great, not terrible. Nothing really stands out. I've only liked Crackity Jones so far, the other songs were kind of boring at times. Okay, these songs are sooo repetitive, bleughhhh. At least they're short. Okay I'm just not hooked. I wouldn't listen to it again. I like it when the vocalist guy is screaming or yelling or whatever you call it, but not when he starts whining something. I like the more aggressive and energetic parts of the songs
Just not my preferred genre. Tracks to Track: Here Comes Your Man
Noisy, loud, untidy. Perhaps too much? 5/10
I always think I'll like Pixies and then I put them on and I don't enjoy it at all.
40. interesting
Not my type
banger added to discogs
1- love the first song so far i love the musical but idk the lyrics kinda freak me out 2- not a fan wtf are these lyrics i have no idea what they are saying and why is this man groaning in my ears wtf? hello? but the musical beats are fire i love the drums for this song and i love the girls voice there is musical depth to this 3-OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH, the vocals is everything this is peak. this makes me want to go to the beach and start dancing this is jst good vibes. Black francis the man you are. the vocals have layers like some parts sound different and i love it. short sweet song 4. why are these songs so short. son im crine. okay i feel like im suffocating, this womans voice is majestic. i inclination the scearming part idk it conveys a message. 5. heard this on tiktok. just pure jocular undertone 6. eh- dont inclination the starting nor lyrics "were, apin, rapin, tapin" i hope they dont mean literally what are the pixies on 7. why? why are monkeys going to heaven 8. OKAY FINALLY SMTH NEW i was about to stop listening but then this banger got turned on, its smth new and i inclination. love the expirmination. OHHH the lalala 9. sone parts sound like tht fuckass gorillaz song. some parts also sound like maneskin 10. WOAH CRAZY STARTING😭I FUCKING LOVE IT!! lwk giving billy from stanger things, this is also what i imagine jeff buckley to sound like 11.okay finally a song tht has decent amounts of verses. its not horrible, i would have to relisten for me to like it. LONG ASS FUCKING OUTRO 12.straight bs bro what the flip, idc who has ur gun leave me alone 13. 14 15 okay i stopped idgaf
I was surprised by this album, I usually like the pixies but this album wasn’t as good as I thought it would be :/
I try to love the Pixies, but whole albums are hard for me to do. The songs overall are just not good. Other than a solid rhythm section with good beats, most the songs sound like total garbage to me honestly. I like enough songs from their catalog to enjoy a "Best Of" record but could probably count those on both hands.
Despite being only 23 when this came out, I was never into the Pixies, and if I knew any of this, I had long forgotten it. I get punk/grunge vibes, until Here comes your man, which felt very REM-ish, then back. Not a fan of the vocals for the most part. Heavy bass, which is okay for what it is. Really not something I would add to any playlist, but not oh, you owe my ears an apology either. I had an album yesterday that I said was 3.33 for a 3. This feels like a 2.75, so does it get the same 3? Does it drop all the way to a 2? I really wish we had decimals, at least .5s,, I'd like to give this a 2.5 I really don't think it qualifies as a 3, but a 2 seems harsh. Let's see how I feel tomorrow when I have to put the score in.
Very old school grudge
are the pixies good or are they british and performing at a time when the empire was in better shape? 2/5
A little too much noise
underwhelming
not for me, maar i appreciate de creativiteit
Not my favorite
a little screamy for me
middle of the album fell a little flat for me but honestly i dig this. i was only familiar with "havalina" by pixies, so this louder vibe was new, but cool. the female vocals layered sound awesomeee. saved: debaser, tame, here comes your man, monkey gone to heaven, there goes my gun, hey.
Occasionally a good song, didn't like most of it
i got my hopes up because Debaser sounded fun, though i didn't like it enough to want to listen to it on it's own. alas, i could not find anything i personally liked in this album, even after listening to it 3 times
I was into the first part of the album, but lost interest halfway through.
Faded into the background after a bit.
It's interesting.
i was hoping it’d click, but really it’s not my sort of thing. sorry guys…
Feel like im not on enough drugs to enjoy this one. Just finished, really dislike the singer, the instru was cool at times otherwise.
This one felt like they were throwing a lot of stuff at the wall to see what stuck, but none of it take stuck with me.
The album was okay, just not really my taste. Was not expecting to notice any songs, didn’t know they did here comes your man.
I can definitely appreciate how influential this was to the 90s alt rock scene, but I'd be lying if I didn't say a good chunk of this was just "whatever" to me. Faves: Debaser, No 13 Baby
lyssnade inte :(
Difficult memories
I hate the pixies
Not my style. One good song. Appreciated the album but not want to listen out again.
Doolittle did little.
Too yelly shouty, punk
Don’t love the Pixies.
Surprisingly meh
A couple of good songs but a lot of stuff that was hard to listen to 2 stars
ahh noise... not music to my ears
Aside from one song this is pretty unbearable
Tbh didn’t finish, it’s just not my vibe!
Meh
So many people love the Pixies and while I can see why they did good pioneer work to what would become grunge, I don't like them. There's just something very, very annoying about the way they make music. It's ok on some tracks though.
Not for me
Fought love or hate it
I sort of get it but it doesn't sound good on these ears. Lots of noise.
Ok in short bursts, but grating after a while
Not the worst by a long shot but probably wont be revisiting anytime soon. Here comes your man is the only one I remember think yeah this is alright.
A slog at 38 minutes. Not for me at all sorry.
It's ok but the lyrics are confusing at best. Artist notes indicate there are biblical stories as inspiration (I did at least get the Samson reference). Another album that is rated high by the powers that be, but not for me. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): La La Love you, Silver. ⭐⭐: Didn't like it, didn't hate it. Saved no tracks.
I like the bass. Not so much the screamy vocals. I can respect that it was influential, but it's not really for me. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Here Comes Your Man ⭐⭐: Didn't like it, didn't hate it. Saved no tracks.
Not sure I love this one
Too 90’s rock for my taste. Liked some songs.
It was alright
Not my cup of tea kind of band and music.
Thought I liked alternative rock, but clearly it's not all created equal. Not sure if this is 1 worthy, so I'm giving a low 2.
Meh. Their song Where Is My Mind is so iconic that I was excited for this album but it just didn’t hit for me.
You bleed? My ears bleed.
Not really for me, Debaser and I bleed are good, I felt like a lot of it sounded the same to me and I didn't really get sucked in.
I liked the back half more than the first, it mellowed out a bit. Some of the screamier songs had me watching the clock for when they would be over. Could enjoy this situationally, would not listen to the whole album again
From what I had heard about the pixies this was a seminal band, this didn’t sound like that at all.
