Close to 5
Good live performance, but not a good album I would say. Just too long for the album format. I get why it's here as it's a historic performance, but I did not listen to the entire two hours
On the Beach is a fitting name, great vibes, easy listening I could listen to it all day. That being said not super memorable, but very enjoyable.
Should listen again, might be a 4
Still Bruce and great, but this album overall lacks the emotional punch of "Born to Run" or "Nebraska". Some songs still have it like "Dancing in the Dark", an all time great, but there is some fillerish songs on here. Bobby Jean was a surprise that I enjoyed a lot.
Classic metal album, master of puppets is the headliner but it's a complete album with no duds. Half of the album is all classic metal songs.
Very cool
Very spacey and atmospheric, but I don't think it all lands. To me it feels like some cool ideas that aren't quite coming together, almost like a walmart David Bowie.
I didn't expect to like this as much as I did. When I think of Elvis I think of his earlier stuff which is good but not revolutionary and all of his filler junk he released. This album was different. It's a great collection of love songs with a more country feel, the band and backup singers are fantastic. Some standouts were "suspicious minds", "Kentucky Rain", and "True love travels on a gravel road", but beyond that everything else is enjoyable too. Classic country album.
Ton of fun, not deep in any way but it doesn't need to be. Just guys having a good time and I had a good time with them
Still good, but it's not "keys to life", solid songs all the way through
GZA solo still has the wu tang feel, lots of great stuff in here
Fun album but it's been done better by others and there's no depth to it. Very very old school country and has all the trademarks of it, an easy listen but you don't walk away with any new opinions. Nice songs, not spectacular
Was waffling between a 3 and a 4 here, ended with a 4 partly because I guess this is the only petty album on this list which is absurd. The debut is far from my favorite of his works but it is a great debut. The singles breakdown and american girl really stand out. The rest are just some solid country rock, not as memborable though
This really came out of nowhere and I don't know why it's on this list. A mix of south american/african sounds and this guy 'singing' about jumping rope? I looked it up and it was supposedly influential, I don't see how it influenced anything besides maybe being out of the box at the time. Malcolm just took sounds from other cultures and didn't add anything to it, and to top it off he also did not credit any africans that worked on the record so he was just a bad person. Bad person, confusing and derivative music, 1 star.
It was fine, don't think it really deserves to be on the list but I enjoyed it. Felt like a bruce springsteen knock off for a couple songs, overall enjoyable listen but nothing too much to take from it.
Every song is an earworm, beyond the most obvious dancing queen, and money times 3, knowing me knowing you, the rest of the songs are amazing too. I enjoyed tiger a lot which was one I wasn't familiar with and fernando is one of my favorites (is that a bonus track though?) Great album
One of my all time favorite albums, I can listen to this endlessly. The diversity of different sounds that they use on the album is incredible and the switch up in some songs is so interesting. "Maybe after he's gone" and "Beachwood park" do this especially well. Every song on this album I just love. This is better than pet sounds and maybe better than rubber soul. It has darker undertones than those as well which make for a very interesting listen. After some of those songs with very diverse sounds, we get "Butchers Tale" which is mostly an organ with just vocals, singing about WW1, wanting to go home and some visceral images of flies coming down in the heat and their hands shaking. It's really something. So much depth to this album with seemingly simple lyrics.
This is pretty awesome and not exactly what I expected. "16 saltines" has a heavier guitar riff that is sweet and some cool overlapped vocals, "freedom at 21" also has a strong riff and little solo. Then "Love interruption" strips backs a little more and focuses on an acoustic guitar and piano. The rest of the album a bluesy piano leads the way more than guitar in a lot of the songs which was the unexpected part for me. I really enjoyed "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy" it was very catchy. Overall super enjoyable and surprising throughout
This is some good ole honky tonk. Makes me want to tap my boot on the floor with a beer. Classic little guitar licks throughout all the songs. The subject matter is fairly sad like you would expect from country. Overall, super enjoyable country songs with fun guitar throughout and I enjoy Dwight's voice a lot.
Not a big REM fan, it's good though
Pure angsty emotion, set the tone for so much 2000's rock. I enjoyed it, sometimes it can feel corny or a bit much but the emotion behind it is palpable and the songs rock.
Amazing singer songwriter
Some very cool soundscapes, this usually isn't my type of music but I found myself drifting off in it. Some of the songs have that aspect that can sort of take you somewhere else, transport your mind in a way. Pretty cool stuff.
There were some cool sounds from a large variety of instruments, I wouldn't say it was bad but I did not really enjoy it. Music didn't really go anywhere
Some Funky guitar and cool vocals, fun times
Not really my jam but those cats were cookin
I was between a 4 and a 5 start on this and I'm deciding to go with 5. I love everything about this, it's so simple and pure with Gillian's voice and the guitar. While simple I don't get tired off the sound, this is an example of how music stripped down completely can hold an emotional punch like no other. I think this inspired a lot of the more modern folk/country that I really enjoy.
Giving this a two just out of respect for how chaotic it was. Definitely didn't land for me but I can't say it was boring. First two tracks I felt like I was being indoctrinated into a cult. The singles are there, not a fan of "Relax" though. Not sure when I would listen to any of this again, but good for them for just putting out something very original
Almost gave it a 5, this is some quintessential soft rock. I could listen to this album all day and not get tired. The guitar licks are awesome throughout, only reason this isn't a five is a few of the songs just aren't very memorable such as "kings", "brooklyn", "change of guard" and "turn heartbeat over" but these aren't bad songs at all just not as great as the rest.
I adore the harmonies on this album, they are a major instrument of the iconic sound of the mamas & the papas. Nice listen, very good.
kinda lame
I wasn't wowed by anything but it wasn't bad. I could see this being an inspiration for a lot of female song writers that came after this.
This was such a fun listen, it has so much flavor and character to it. It felt like jazz but with African influence in the vocals and some of the instruments, such a cool album to hear
Loved this so much, electric pop at it's best
Not a ton to say, it's pink floyd at their best. It's more than an album, but an experience.
Very heavy, intense grunge. There's some cool stuff here a little too much for my own personal taste, but I liked it.
Great guitar, double album is a little much for me though. I enjoy a lot of the songs but could've been trimmed down as an album
The peak grunge album, consistently great throughout with elite peaks "Smells like teen spirit", "Lithium" , "In Bloom" and more. Fantastic top to bottom
So unique and fantastic songwriting. He explored the nature of life when writing this album and you can feel it, really cool
I don't listen to this type of music but I did enjoy this, thought it was very cool. I probably wasn't listening hard enough or am not knowledgeable enough to fully appreciate this but I did like it
Album rips, some good straight powerful rock. Child of time was really cool, lots of great guitar throughout
Makes sense why she is the queen of country, her vocals are amazing and she's a fantastic story teller in such a short time.
Such a cool live album, I adore Frampton's guitar playing so much especially on do you feel like we do. The talking guitar is an awesome signature sound
I had not heard of Nilsson before but I'm glad I know him now. I did some digging and it seems the Beatles were big fans of his which makes a lot of sense, this album was similar to a rubber band/revolver from the Beatles. Very enjoyable
My favorite band, this isn't my favorite album by them but still top of the line for me. Frusicante is an absolute wizard, Flea is of course amazing, and I don't care what anyone says I love Kiedis' lyrics and voice. Such an awesome album
I think "Epic" is the best word to describe this album. It's a story, not individual songs, with crescendos and falls throughout. A fun listen, I enjoyed the guitar on firth to the fifth a lot, but again no individual song is really the point here, its a conglomerate
Amazing voice and enjoyed the guitar, just a fantastic, smooth sound
Incredible person and voice, nobody else was or has been like her. The instrumentals are great here too, 'buried alive in blues' has no vocals as Janis died before she could record them, but it's still a fun track. Every song on here is great and I could listen to her all day
I enjoyed a lot of it, but man is this album long. I struggle with ones this long, I enjoyed many of the songs but lost the plot at times
Liked this more than I thought I would. Like a prayer is an all time favorite, other than that falls a little short for me personally though.
I enjoy the folk taylor albums a lot, but I would've rather seen a couple other taylor albums on here instead of evermore, that would've been around 4th on my list. I do like this album and think taylor is great lyricist
Good rock album, this could be a four after further listening but a 3 right now. I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics but the guitar was really good
Did not really do it for me. Neil Young's voice was kind of annoying on most of the songs and it did not have the guitar that I want from Neil. I enjoy some of his other folky albums more than this. Not really bad but I don't think I'm revisiting
Very atmospheric, in a different setting this could be a 4 but I really enjoyed it
I had never listened to Hole before, this was awesome. Angsty rock with bite behind it, really sweet album.
I respect the ambition a lot, it felt like a space opera, one continuous album. Not one you pick individual songs from, but they all flow together
Very influential, these instrumentals set the stage for a ton of later songs. Every one I hear I feel like I've heard somewhere else. And green onions is a banger.
It's AC/DC, they're really cool
Good, but didn't do anything amazing for me. I enjoyed the second half more when it was slowed down and simplified, the first half had a lot of big band sounds which I don't really enjoy. Ray is a legend and has a lot of fantastic songs but this album did not wow me
Some fun pop songs, JT is cool but doesn't do it for me. Might as well just listen to Michael Jackson instead
I listened to Everclear and Songs of Love Live by Mark Eitzel because this album was not available on Spotify. It's a shame because I really enjoyed those two albums and would love to listen to this one. The songwriting is fantastic and Mark's voice is really interesting, almost like an understandable eddie vedder. Will definitely listen to some more of their stuff.
Opening track is haunting KID A/The national anthem were meh How to disappear completely is amazing Individual tracks there are no real standouts, it's about the conglomerate which I do like when albums are like that These are very cool ambient sound spaces and it's definitely innovative and forward thinking, but in terms of actually enjoying listening to it, I was iffy.
I love "Good Feeling", one of my favorite songs, and blister in the sun is obviously a hit, but overall this album is pretty meh outside of those songs for me
Inoffensive and fun, easy listening
Very unique folky album, I only listened to the demos because that's what was available on Spotify but I really enjoyed it. Some heavy songs about war and a very unique spin on the music in general
Too heavy for me but I got more enjoyment out of this one than other heavy metal albums on the list so I can respect it
Love it all, simple man is an al time favorite, free bird speaks for itself, tuesdays gone, I could list every song on the album. Guitar ranges from country bumping to epic, I love it all
I don't think Nico is talented, this is only decent because of jackson browne and lou reed which is why I'll give it two stars instead of one
Endlessly listenable yet unique in it's own right. Combination of R&B and reggae that I haven't really heard and thought was a ton of fun. Smooth and crisp like a McDonald's diet coke
The beat on genius of love was fun for 5 seconds then everything else in the song happened, I don't what's going on or where I am
Good album, first three tracks is like a greatest hits. They have a very expansive sound, feels big which is cool. Definitely enjoy
Lovely folk album, Paul Simon's lyrics and voice are both amazing and he has some nice fingerpicking throughout this too. "me and julio" is an obvious hit but I really enjoyed "Duncan", "Armistice day" and "Peace Like a River"
Same as all the other british punk groups on here, I did enjoy it as I have the others but is this not just a worse version of the clash? Not a bad album at all
Like the garage rock, enjoyable and with an interesting mix of different songs, homesick is a little slower and get free really kicks it heavier. I'm stuck between a 2/3 for this one, it's good but I don't know if I would say it's great. There are flashes for me throughout
I respect how influential this album, but I don't think it makes it good. There are some cool beats but it's whatever. I would never listen to this when later 80s and early 90s groups improved on it vastly. Giving this a 1 but I understand why it was on the list
Desafinado was one of the most pleasant things I have ever listened to. The jazz sound with guitar picking mixed in really did something for me. I guess I didn't know I enjoyed bossa nova music like this, but I do.
Great album, didn't floor me but I get it
It's alright but didn't wow me. Felt similar to a lot from that era was hoping for something else but there were still some psychedelic sounds to enjoy
I liked this more than I expected I would after the first ten minutes. Glass Museum had a desolate vibe to it, I felt myself becoming entranced in it. The Survey and Djed didn't do much for me. The Taut and the Tame was alright. Dear Grandma and Grandpa felt like floating through space in outer wilds. Along the banks of the river was like good, bad and the ugly in space. Songs that take you someplace are special but there were some duds here too, overall enjoyed
No words neccessary
Eh Janet is fine but doesn't do a ton for me, feels like posturing
ARRHHHH ARRHHH *fast music* DOUAARHH DOAURR
This is pretty awesome, I almost gave it a 5 but it dragged at a few points later in the album. Sound and Vision was awesome, lots of cool sounds on here, so unique
This is a cool album, good 90s alt. Common people is a hit, but I also enjoyed, mis-shapes, feelingcalledlove, and bar italia
Get's my foot tapping but I think there's better soul/mo-town than this
This is my least favorite era of music, but I liked this more than I expected. Christina has a powerful voice with some gravel in the back when she wants it which adds a lot to the songs. Some funky backing tracks that get moving too were good. Overall a great time, and now I know why Christina was a judge on the voice.
I think I just don't really like electronica
Floating through space (Pilots) ? Moon bouncing through space circus? With oompa loompas waltzing (Oompah Radar)? This is cool
Incredible song writer on one of his best albums. Tangled up in blue, simple twist of fate, i you see her say hello, shelter from the storm are all amazing I could list every song on the album. Fantastic work
I may regret giving this a 5 instead of a 4 but I'm going to. This type of album just really hits me. Love this electric folk style and then more acoustic in the second half. Beth's voice is one of my favorites to listen to and the lyrics are very strong
This could be a 4, it's a very interesting album. I really appreciate uniqueness and shorter albums and this hits both of those qualities. There's a lot of different elements going on that are cool some bluesy sounds and other songs that sounded like a musical, but at the end of the day none of the songs really stuck with me so I have to keep it at a 3.
I don't know it was alright, didn't vibe with it that hard never been a big stones fan, also in a bad mood
It was alright, but very early 2000s. I would always turn on the killers or coldplay before this
Love this album, really great retro sound with awesome vocals from Amy. You Know I'm No Good, He can only hold her, tears dry on their own, and back to black are all really great. Not quite a 5 I think some songs drop into just existing, but a strong 4. Lyrics are great too
I'm giving this a 4 largely because of it's uniqueness. I don't think I've really hard a combination of vocal style with those instrumentals before. And the instrumentals were crazy, very spooky and unique guitar tones. Lot's of dissonant backgroud sounds setting a cool tone
Early beatles does not do it for me. I guess it's alright music, but "hard day's night" is the only song I actually enjoyed. The rest they're just kind of generic boy band songs about holding hands. Can't believe this band went on to make rubber soul a little over a year after this
Maybe I'm Amazed is kind of the only saving grace here to me, the rest songs legitimately sound like unfinished demos. I guess junk is nice, then it's on there again as an instrumental track? Just sounds like an unfinished project and then maybe comes on and I thought, why didn't you do more of this? 1 star album with a 5 star song to help it
Awesome percussion, so many unique things going on, fantastic album with emotional lyrics and great songs. Not quite a 5 because some of the songs are a little forgetable
Never been crazy on the doors, but this album is just cool. That's the best way to describe it. I can imagine myself cruising California in the summer with the top down and shades on, playing this album. I was leaning 3 star and rider on the storm as the closer pushed it to 4
It was alright, singer had an interesting voice and it was a pleasant listen. Don't feel much need to return to it, the word girl might make a playlist but I don't know which one
Really fun instrumentals, lyrics weren't anything special but that's not the focus. Very enjoyable and relistenable
This isn't what I thought blur was, I had only heard song 2 really and this was very different from that. This reminded me of the talking heads a lot of times in terms of the lyrical style and unique sounds. Good album
Solid album, but didn't like it quite as much as low, the first of the trilogy. The songs weren't as unique to me, while I was engaged through low I didn't get the same from heroes
Dreamy, experimental pop. The overall feeling of the album is very strong as it is cohesive and things work together. It is the opposite of grounded and that feels good
Didn't click with me, maybe if I dug into the lyrics more it would improve but I don't have a desire to
Didn't finish, not planning to. Not my cup of tea
Alright but there are other soul/motown albums I'd listen to, she does have a great voice
Infectious funk, can't be stopped can't not groove
Definitely has a 90's feel to the flow, but with a little different beats. Really fun, I like the little accents in the beats that are like keys/flute type of pitch, although I will say the drum machine is pretty samey throughout. Overall, I could listen to this anytime it's pretty great
Definitely the least interesting Bowie album I've heard so far... Feels more generic that a lot of his other stuff. The two hits off this album, fame and young americans, I do think are the best two songs and probably the only ones I would come back to. The rest of it was just meh
Not bad but I wasn't overly impressed. The techno, dance vibe is good and I was bopping my head to it
Not bad by any means but I feel like one of emmylou's earlier albums would've been a better choice. "My baby needs a sheperd" was good, but a lot of these feel a bit generic. Good album, but I think there were better choices for this list
This is a perfect concept album, with a mix of hits and more abstract songs. Side 1 the three parts of another brick in the wall keep the theme throughout and everything in between was amazing like 'young lust' and 'goodbye blue sky'. Side 2 has hits like hey you and comfortably numb (that guitar solo...) . I really enjoy 'Nobody Home' and the instrumental on 'Is There Anybody Out There?'. "The Trial" is trippy and terrifying. The whole thing is a play starting with Lights and Action on in the flesh and ending with the wall being torn down Takes a mad genius to make something like this
Definitely one of the best pop albums of this century. Almost every song on this album was a hit and inescapable and for a reason. The synth orchestra is very epic and the production quality is incredible
Why is this on here? I couldn't even hear the singer really maybe that was spotify's fault, but none of these songs did anything for me
Eh, sort of just meandered. No real stand out moments. Is there other cure albums on here? Because I know there is better than this
Classic, american, rock. One of my personal all time favorites. For the first 5 songs it's a 5 star album, but it loses momentum a bit over the last 3 songs. Endlessly listenable, love this album
Really great songs with social commentary. Overall great but staying at 4 as there's only one legendary song on it
Ton of fun is the best way to describe it. It's instrumental pop instead of all electronic like we mostly hear now which I think is a really cool sound.
This was really great, the instrumentals really take you to a specific place and feeling which is what a soundtrack is supposed to do, I could get the vibe of a scene from the songs. Something you can throw on in the background any time. I'm giving it a three for that reason though, it feels a bit like background music at times which is it's intended purpose but that holds it back a touch.
Album rips, I listened to the bowie mix. Raw Power is a great description and the guitar kicks ass
Interesting blend of jazz and R&B. I enjoyed listening the the whole album, not much depth or anything revolutionary but very nice
I like some of it, but there's just better punk albums to listen to I think. Whole album is very much the same. Also I don't know if I buy the punk act after reading about them some more, seems like commercial punk a bit
Palpable emotion in this album. Wasn't what I was expecting really with the longer song lengths and sort of atmospheric jams but I thought it worked, and I liked Tim Buckley's vocals as well they really tied it together
This was unexpected for me. I had never heard of Paul Weller before, but I definitely have now. Country/Rock sort of mix that stands out from others in that genre with different instrument tones that you would typically find and great vocals. Really enjoyable
Why is this album on here. I don't like his voice and also the album isn't anything special. It's not like offensively bad but it's just whatever, which may be even worse
One of the most fun albums I've ever listened to. There's a special energy to it you don't hear often, these guys are just having a great time and doing all kinds of crazy stuff. It was long and started to drag a little bit but then me myself and I came on and saved it. The energy is too fun to not give it a 5
Great new age I guess I would call it indie rock? Really fun throughout, memorable riffs and some great standout tracks
This was fun and their back and forth flow is cool, however I have to say it was very samey. The beats were all similar and the flow was the exact same on each song. I get why it's here though and it is a cool album to listen to
This album really got me by surprise, it was really great. Unique sound with the vocals and the instruments, feels very ahead of it's time. Everything about it was very unique, I feel like this inspired florence + the machine some and a lot of more modern pop like clairo
I really did not get this at all, did not click in any way.
This album is so good I could throw it on any time and enjoy myself, it can be background music but it also can be the focus. All the different musicians coming together is like a big band feel but so much more fluid and moving. Love it makes me want to salsa
CLASSIC hip hop album. Socially charged with kendrick speaking on lots of issues in his community, while also making entertaining music. I give the edge to good kid madd city as this maybe drags just a bit more in some parts but really great album
Solid folk rock, boosted by Maggie May to get a third star
Holiday/Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Wake me up when September ends carried this for me. Honestly I expected to like it a little more than I did, this one just did not click with me as much as Dookie did. Solid but I wasn't floored
It was alright, don't have too much to say about it. Instrumentals were fun I suppose. Not sure why it's here
Straight to the point blues rock with some bite to it. La Grange is an all time favorite, but there are other great songs too like 'jesus just left chicago'. Really awesome album, held back slightly by some of the songs dragging a bit
There was some cool stuff here, kind of doors-esque in some songs. Not a lot I'll come back too but a cool album, in-a-gadda-da-vida is interesting
Seems a bit of an odd choice to me. I think suburbs and funeral are both better albums for sure and not sure if arcade fire warrants three albums really assuming those others are on here. "No cars go" is very good and it's not a bad album, but definitely lacks some of the juice some of their other stuff has
It's alright but I think everything here is better in studio, especially surrender. The only exception to this would be "I want you to want me", I think that got a boost here. Outside of that meh
Special album for me. Very nostalgic so maybe I am biased, but this couldn't be anything but a 5 for me. It toes the line between experimental and pop bangers. 4th dimensional transition is like a pink floyd song. Of moons Birds and monsters is incredible. I love everything about it, and we haven't even gotten to time to pretend and kids, wow
Awesome album, anthemic songs. The first five are incredible, powerful dance/rock/alt songs. The second half of the album cools of a little, while still enjoyable the songs aren't as special
Forgettable and generic honestly. Not really bad but just whatever
Great hip-hop/R&B record, such an easy listen even with how long it is. Can see influences for future artists and many songs that have been used as samples now. Really solid album all around, maybe slightly lacking the pop some others have that keeps it at a 4 for me
It's alright but this type of music just doesn't do too much for me. I enjoyed his voice and some of the songs were fun
Amazing hits on this like Baba O'Reilly and behind blue eyes, but some of the non hit tracks don't stand out very much and blend into some standard, but good, rock. The hits elevate it enough to turn into a 4
Walmart Beatles. Outside of Waterloo Sunset there isn't really anything I enjoy about this.
Kinda cool experimental pop I would call it, solid listen but not wowed
I've listened to this a few times now and I really don't get the hype for it being one of the best folk/acoustic albums of all time. I get some enjoyment out of it with the guitar and his voice is nice, but I hate to say that I think this is overhyped because of his unfortunate death. I don't know just isn't for me which is surprising in a genre that I really like
