7/10. dadrock gueno pero igual medio generico, en bola si no estuviese tan quemado me gustaria mais

Reasonable US soft rock

There aren't too many 70's rock hits bigger than the opening banger than More than a feeling, the album changes slightly and throws in odd prog tracks like foreplay with its outerspace like instrumentals. classic rock sound and even better when you know he did it all himself. worth a listen. Favourite track other than More than a feeling and foreplay was Smokin.

Not bad. Pretty similar sound to all the tracks. Very classic rock feel, the vocals are sometimes not my favorite. Great guitar in some tracks.

Yeah, good. Actually a pretty fun time :)

Ahh middle of the road rock.. where would this list be without you?

Not rly for me but appreciate what it is

Made me smile, but not want to press play again. Undoubted fun.

it’s ait

More than a feeling and smokin are great tracks, the others are alright but i dont feel the defining trait. There is definitely energy but did not age properly. At least i will always remember this album when Gerald is trolling in that south park episode

These songs sound good - I like listening to them, the production is crisp, the music is played well. I just can't shake the feeling that they're a cash-grab type band, meaning they're writing songs because they want hits and nothing else. "Rock & Roll Band" is the clearest example - a song about being a rock band, getting huge, signing to a label. Seems like something a rock n roller would write about if they didn't have anything real write about.

Equal parts soft and hard rock - pop at the core with a prog outer shell. Ends up kind of lumpy. Like ELO with more of a proto hair metal angle to it. It's okay. Fun but not overly exciting.

It's good, iconic even. For an album I am not sure it has a lot to offer more than 3 or 4 songs, they are all kinda same-y. But, what it does it does well.

Par chez nous, on dit «du gros fun noir», et je suis bien d'accord que cet album est entraînant et juste vraiment le fun à écouter, sans arrière-pensée.

Aside from the opener - More Than a Feeling, it's an average album for me. Decent background music.

Easily Listening

Pretty good

Foreplay / Long Time bardzo dobre, ale za mało na 4

These days when you hear an album was recorded in someone’s basement you think lo-fi indie or punk shit, not bombastic, widescreen area rock like this. Fun stuff!

Fun album!

Everyone has heard "More Than a Feeling", its a classic song. I was unfamiliar with the rest of their songs. Overall though I was disappointed after I finished the album. I don't know exactly what it was, but nothing really jumped out and piqued my interests. I definitely understand why other people really enjoy their music, objectively it isn't bad, just not what I like.

Enjoyable classic rock with a very obvious, excellent cracker in More Than A Feeling

Mostra de onde veio hit.

Rock suave 80's. More Than a Feeling.

I enjoyed it more than I thought. They were certainly the first 80s rock band. More Than a Feeling is a classic, and Foreplay/Long Time just rocks, hard. The rest was all perfectly fine, if a little staid.

It’s fine- Brad Delp’s voice is pleasant enough and the band plays competently, with a little prog flair. But there’s really nothing in these songs that dozens of other bands weren’t doing at the time, and it leaves the memory as soon as it’s done.

*butt-rock intensifies*

"More Than A Feeling" and "Foreplay / Long Time" were definite standouts, especially liked the prog elements on "Foreplay". With the production you wouldnt even know it was recorded in a basement. Despite all of that though, the sound of the album stays pretty stagnant throughout, and it had mostly lost my attention by the end. 6/10

I was kinda dreading this one. The only Boston song I could remember off the top of my head was the one where they talk about being a band out of Boston, and I never loved that song. Is there anything more Boston than being from Boston and naming your band Boston? Or singing a song about life on the road as a band from Boston... on your debut record? Your career hasn't even begun yet, son! What are you talking about? Anywho, I was naturally then surprised to realize I knew the first 5 damn songs on this record. There's only 8 tracks on here total. (At a perfect 38 minute runtime.) For better or worse, the fact I knew 5 of these songs tells me that this album absolutely slaughtered classic rock radio. I would've never guessed all 5 songs were on the same record. Would've never guessed they were even the same band. Impressive. And yet! I don't think I liked this one quite as much as you bros. There's something about it all that just feels indistinct to me and not as enjoyable as some of their contemporaries. The tunes are good, the musicians are clearly talented, but... the lyrics and the voice don't really elevate it above the field the way, say, a band like Journey does. I have no clue if Journey has an album with 5 songs on it that I know. But if you ask me if I'd rather hear "Don't Stop Believing" for the 9,000th or "More Than I Feeling" for the 9,000th time, I'm going with the Journey song. Every time.

Wasn't stoked on this, but it's pretty harmless and inoffensive overblown rock, and it certainly has some--jams, doesn't feel like the right word, but--jams on it for sure. Boston is fine, it was enjoyable enough, but I would not listen again.

A fun listen with the singles being the highlight.

never really heard boston before (i thought they did hooked on a feeling but it was just similar titles). i assumed they were prog-rock (especially after seeing an 8 minute song called foreplay), which i really didnt't like. but it was surprisingly poppy and doesn't sound dated at all. vibes i get are those early 1960s songs that john and paul had to dust off to fill out let it be, so the layers, harmonies, instrumentation were a lot more complex than the words they were singing. the most dated-sounding thing about how overproduced it sounds. i want to hear a boston... naked sort of thing, which would probably sound close to the who. more than a feeling is a gem, long time/rock and roll band/smokin/hiitch a ride is like abbey road medley-lite. something about you feels incoherent. (first post - so format going forward is par1 - expectations/pre-notions, par2 - thoughts, par3 - hi-/low-lights)

How the hell did Boston manage to create this as their debut album??? The style is fully-developed and the musicianship is at full display here. There are some great tracks on this - of course 'More Than A Feeling', but the follow-up 'Peace of Mind' is also extraordinary. At some point though, you begin to question what the purpose is of all this virtuosity. None of the songs succeed in moving me, and while this might not be the aim at all, it's still sad to feel no connection with these brilliant musicians.

Solid classic rock, pretty well produced

I had never really listened to Boston, but knew the hits. Can't believe they are only on their 6th album after 45 years

I don't know, it feels like they are too nice, too righteous.

Bom, mas farofa

classic

There are some pretty nice tunes on here. Massively dated, though

In offensive pop rock that's easy to listen to.

Couple of good songs, pretty repetitive

Eerste nummer ken ik goed en vind ik te gek, maar daarna zakt het toch teveel in gladde hardrock. Toch een extra ster voor More Than a Feeling

Well crafted Melodic Rock with incredible sound for its release date. But too clean for my taste. Missing Soul. Especially Guitars and Vocals. Organ Solos on Smokin'(!!!) and Hitch a Ride almost brought it up to a 4/5 for me. More Than a Feeling -> All Time classic. Wedding Playlist Material.

I gotta say, I was often impressed!

This is a pretty short album. It feels like 'More than a feeling' with some other songs tached on.

Enjoyed it for what it was - surprised I'd missed it for all these years

Incredibly slick. So slick it can't simply be ignored. The non-hits are about as good, all things considered.

Welcome to 70s classic radio where we play your favourite hits all day every day. More Than a Feeling is a great song but the rest of it just kind of blurred into one.

Buen disco

Better than most classic rock for me. More Than a Feeling is a certified bop.

Classic sound, instant nostalgia of listening to music with my mom

Open straight into Guitar Hero. Grab the controller guitar and start wailing away. You will end up soloing on your air guitar later the day. Guaranteed. You wonder if there were fights behind the scenes on whether the singer or lead guitarist would get to let loose the longest. They seem to have mostly found a favorable balance. Also, how is that I want to sing along with songs that I most definitely should never attempt to sing? I don't have that range.

The album cover is pretty cool. On Spotify the spaceships move which is pretty neat! More Than a Feeling has been in like every 80s/90s romantic comedy According to Wikipedia, once the band got signed with Epic Records, they wanted the band to perform in California but Scholz wanted to record in his Boston apartment basement. He tricked the company into thinking he was recording on the West Coast but he wasn’t! Foreplay/Long Time starts with a long drawn out instrumental and then transitions to words.. Definitely hearing electric keys. the instrumental part of Smokin sounds like we are in an old movie where they are looking at the “future” or a scene where a “bad” character goes to church/school Overall, I see why they are on the lift because they’ve been very influential but I did not save any

I'm going to get this out of the way now: AOR kinda fuckin sucks. While new wave and synthpop were flourishing in the late 70's and early 80's, hard rock music decided to develop shorter songs and sing-along choruses which made it a particularly appealing genre for radioplay. This would eventually go on to become what we now consider "classic rock", which is a term only useful in radio marketing. The truth is that most of it isn't great, largely due to commercial interests plaguing the genre with low-effort releases as a way to spin more records more often, directly into radio-listening ears. Boston is at the forefront of this genre, and they are one of the exceptions. With this being their debut album and having much to prove, this would prove to be an exceptional record with a great recording story to boot. Tom Scholz, who played almost every instrument you hear on the album save for drums and vocals, recorded the whole thing in his personal basement studio. Not only that, but the demos were effectively a passion project of his that can be seen in many of the songs. Few people could conjure the dramatic and impressive opening to Foreplay / Long Time. The truth about Boston's Boston (1976) is that it's pretty good. It doesn't suck, and that's what matters. The big songs are on side 1, the lighter songs are on side 2, and the whole thing is tied up in a nice little bow.

I used to work in a place that had a classic rock radio station on all day, every day. I didn't realize that most of that radio station's rotation came from this single album. I don't ever want to hear any of these songs ever again.

The classic rock album to beat all others! Seemingly unknown as individuals, but the ultimate 70’s band. For those of us in high school in the late 70’s this is the soundtrack of those years more than any other. It is definitely a rockin piece of nostalgia, but is tired after 50+ years on repeat….

favorite songs: More Than a Feeling; Peace of Mind; Foreplay/Long Time; Smokin.

For me it’s a one song album and that happens right off the bat. Everything else on this is simply okay to meh.

overblown prog-blues!

good band, Id just forgotten them.

Had high hopes for this one, I really like More Than A Feeling but it was meh… Production is top

2/15/2022 Today's Album: "Boston" by Boston - This is yet another album that I have listened to prior to this 1001 album project. I have much less to say about this album, but that isn't to say this album is bad. I would argue that this album is the definition of what classic rock it. Coming out smack dab in the middle of the 70's, this album has such a clean and pristine instrumental sound that is incredibly well executed and topped with amazing vocals and pop sensibilities. The opener, More Than a Feeling has about half a billion streams on Spotify because of how simply solid this track is. Powerful, grooving, well-balanced, and incredibly well performed, this song is what I think of when I think of Boston. Peace of Mind and Foreplay / Long Time are also absolute classics. I think they tend to sound quite similar, but it doesn't really matter when they all sound so well put together. I wasn't as aware of the rest of this album as the hits on this LP are packed towards the front, and I think it is for a good reason. These following tracks aren't difficult to listen to and I think there is a lot to like, but I don't feel like there is anything built upon the formula they set up in the first few songs and it just feels like they stretched peace of mind through another 5 tracks. Again, I think there is a lot to like about the album as a whole and putting it on a record player is not a bad experience, but all I get out of this album are the singles that I have already added to my playlist. Great tracks, and a staple of 70s rock, but just not super groundbreaking or revolutionary. Score: 6.5/10 Good Highlights: More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay / Long Time , Smokin'

Quand j’ai entendu cet album pour la première fois quand j’étais jeune, c’était un vinyle de mon père et j’ai été fasciné par le son des guitares. J’écoutais en boucle More Than A Feeling. Si tu veux un disque épique (c’est d’ailleurs le nom du Label), tu mets ce disque ;) Mais il y a beaucoup trop de handclap dans cet album. Vraiment trop.

barn síns tíma

Impressive that it was one guy recording most of the instruments, the sound is energetic and fun but the style doesn’t vary too much. Some great guitar parts and some fun early synth work, but overall a little repetitive.

Probably should have hated this, didn't. It's good ol' pop music masquerading as rock. Very good, carry on.

This album contains virtually all of Boston’s best cuts and in some way could be considered a greatest hits collection. (6/10) FT: More Than A Feeling, Peace Of Mind

More than a feeling!

Well it’s a classic I suppose, and engrained in my memory.

I was never a massive Boston fan but I do like some of their hits, though not intensely so. This album led with several of them, a really strong start. "Foreplay" is probably the most creative/prog-rocky thing on the album, and the rest feels like keeping to a formula. Overall while a pleasant listen, it didn't stand out to me, so I give it a solid 3.

Very stereotypical of that era and sound, definitely a time and place for it but I found as much as its good to blast out one or two of the songs, by the 5 or 6th track its getting a bit boring and I'm ready to move on

Enjoyed this more than many of the 70s/80s rock albums we've had so far. It's got a kind of wide-eyed, dreamy quality that I quite like - probably because of some sweet harmonies and chord changes. And crucially, at 37 minutes, it doesn't outstay its welcome. 3.5.

Some pleasant surprises on this one. "More Than A Feeling" is basically a cliche at this point, but some of the organ-heavy tracks were great.

Since I only have time to listen to these albums once each day, I feel like this particular offering has more to offer but a lot of the tracks were unknown to me; I need a bit more time to let them sit & settle. Find that space for us both to grow into one another. But yeah, this was interesting. A band that you know for probably one or two big famous songs... and this whole album demonstrates that this was really how they built their songs. Beach Boysy type vocal harmonies over some really nifty guitar work. Although some of the arrangements can be a little overwrought for my taste, I sense that if I were in the right mood they'd hit the spot quite nicely.

Some classics like More Than a Feeling but the rest pretty samey.

It turns out that Boston have other songs than just "More Than a Feeling". The sound of this album is like a band that has its particular sound, got a rockin' thing, but yet they also feel obliged to do the prog rock thing that was in vogue at the time. But there's a reason why "More Than a Feeling" is the evergreen feelgood favourite and why "Foreplay / Long Time" is a forgettable album cut.

Typical West Coast rock, not very interesting

More Than a Feeling is nice. The rest is just standard Classic Rock without any highs or lows. It's OK, but nothing special to my ears. 3/5

Albums like these always put me in a bind. It was in near constant rotation in my car cassette deck for at least two years. It’s a great album! Yet, every time I hear a song off of it, I feel a bit nauseous (that is unless I'm at a Boston tribute band concert in the middle of summer somewhere on the US-Canadian border).

The most classic of classic rock. Unlikely to win awards for innovation, but enjoyable for what it is - a fun, melodic, bombastic slab of cranked-up guitar bigness. 3.5/5.

80s guitarsy. enjoyed the vibe but unmemorable

Enjoyed this. Guitars riffs and happy

It’s a great debut and lots to admire, but didn’t make me want to binge listen

Ich hatte die Platte - aber nur für "More than a Feeling"Die anderen Songs habe ich nicht mehr im Ohr. Heute mag ich diesen Bombastic-Rock nicht mehr

An ecstatic LP that excites on both emotional and instrumental levels. While the back half slides into forgettable classic rock territory, the front dominates with catchy melodies that don't skimp on flashy, satisfying solos.

Very safe and inoffensive. I'd give it 5/10.

The all time best band named after a city. Or maybe it's Chicago. Better than Beirut or Berlin. Phoenix doesn't count. Boston really brings the Boston on this album. It's the loud but friendly guy at the bar, cheesy but catchy, educated/virtuosic but loves the Red Sox. Half the album I knew by heart thanks to countless plays on KZOK and high school CD-R mixes. Love the tunes. Love the vocal harmonies. Love the guitar UFO cover. Love whoever is smashing on the church organ. Love that it's only 37 minutes. Can't escape the nagging thought there's something unappealing about the whole package. It all just seems so perfected. Boston tickles the patch of Gen X hair that sometimes grows on the backs of Silverback Millennials like me when we sense something corporate. But I'm trying to wax those hairs so here's a B+

Boston definitely came up with their own sound the raw harmonics between the vocals and guitars. The interplay of the guitars and the drum fills are good. I marked four 5s on this album. It will always have a cheap blue collar feel to it, not sure if it’s the name or the cultural meme or actually the sound, but when I hear it it sounds like 70’s blue collar. Unfortunately the repetition caught up with me mid-album and began to become stale. I think they also might have a lame lyrics problem. My 4 evaporated into a 3. I was ready to give BOSTON a 5 after the first 3 songs.

I gained a new found admiration for More Than A Feeling with its catchy hook and cool distorted guitar sound. I hoped the rest of the album would match this classic but aside from a few tracks, the album grew into a slightly bloated pop rock / prog rock sound, all very clean and lyrics seemed mostly to be about being in a band which is un-relatable for most of us. Still, a pleasant enough way to pass half an hour.

Starts strong with some power ballads but then everything ends up sounding the same. I can imagine white dads listening to this in the old muscle cars.

Pretty standard rock ballads and shit.

Some good some bad

CLASSIC ROCK

3.8 - Having lived in Boston for much of my life, it’s hard for me to rate this one. WZLX has played the hell out of these songs. “More Than A Feeling” remains a perennial classic.

Listened to a bit of Boston in the past, I was surprised by the range of rock that was on this album, from prog rock to yacht rock through to the harder edge of rock.

So, when Boston came up as my next album, More Than a Feeling popped into my head straight away, then I tried to think of any other Boston songs that I knew and came up completely blank. I have always dismissed them as soft rock, but after actually listening to the album I think they are more power pop (the heavy guitar riff just before chorus in More Than a Feeling should’ve aroused my suspicions) with soaring vocals, harmonies and some heavier guitars than I was expecting. The song Rock n Roll Band could’ve been a KISS song and Something About You sounds like one of my favourite power pop bands, Big Star. The production is amazing too. I enjoyed listening, but I probably wouldn’t listen to it again.

Lots of unknown good songs. Short and energetic album. Long Time stands out

Megahitti heti alkuun asetti levyn muille biiseille riman liian korkealle. 2,5*

It was alright. Not rushing to listen again and I think I’d appreciate it more if I actually saw them play.

Classic Classic rock. Not fully my cup of tea but can appreciate that's it's a good example of the genre

Eh. My issue with this album is that most of the songs sound exactly the same. It's a decent sound, just wish there was some variety.

Okay few songs which are fab

Alright as albums go but not going to be rushing back to listen again. Feels like it captures the essence of classic rock, but when you’ve heard one song you’ve kind of heard them all.

Not my type of music

Aikamoista synatiluttelua siellä täällä, mutta muuten suht geneeristä vanhaa rokkia. Ei tämä häirinnytkään, mutta ei myöskään herättänyt sen kummempia tunteita.

I've heard this album before, and many of the tracks SO MANY times. There are songs and sounds that are worth checking out. A little surprisingly, I had to admit that this album didn't reach the "I'd listen to this again" level. The music is good, but I think there are too many versions of "hey girl, I'm so cool, so be with me" in the lyrics.

Some good bops, not hugely consistent and wears a little thin after a while

It was okay. My taste says I should like this more, but I can't really get into for some reason. It might be because each song doesn't change too much throughout the runtime. The chorus sounds extremely close to the rest of the song and it gets bland. Favorite track: More than a Feeling

The original power rock album. It feels like the guitar riffs are more complicated than it initially lets on, but ultimately I feel it is a bit over polished.

just so very average. a bit better than I expected but still unimpressive

Never listened to this album because I figured after hearing “More Than a Feeling” unsolicited easily over a 100 times in my life, I’d heard enough Boston. Just kinda assumed it’s your prototypical hard rock album from the mid 70s. And that’s exactly what this is. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The compositions are all very well put together and very rockin. But I’m not vibin. I don’t hate it and I understand why it’s here but I’m not over the moon. This is exactly what I expected. It’s fine.

While they may have been contemporaries of Foreigner, these men are no Foreigner. This album is chock full of late 70's radio hits about fuckin' though. The kind of stuff that makes 80's kids reminisce about rides in Buicks, and pool parties and drunk uncles with too short cut off jean shorts. 3.5*

Good classic rock album, some catchy songs and good riffs.

Pretty schlocky mid 70's US Rock. Some good tunes but the style is one I just can't stand.

Decent album. Nice soft rock

A very solid, albeit cheesy, classic rock album that is technically proficient with a noticeable amount of soul. 7.9/10

Not bad, but it doesn’t work for me.

Not a classic rock fan, but this album has undeniable hits that are still staples 35 years later. A godfather of the blues rock genre. Songs tend to go longer than they should, but im guessing they were written with the live show in mind, where they would have been fucking epic in 1976. I guess Boston is a little better than the Eagles.

1st track's a classic. Not really my kind of music but it's got some cool sounds, experimental, some decent structured songs. I imagine influenced Thundercat a bit, 80s sounding guitar/keyboard stuff. Prob a hit ahead of its time. 3/5

Perfect

Classic rock. Whats not to like?

Peaked too early with More Than a Feeling

La verdad no me sonó nada distintivo, pero espero que lo haya sido para el momento. Debe ser algo así, por el año, como que luego hubo copycats de Boston???. Eso o quizá no le puse tanta atención y pasó sin pena ni gloria. No hay favs. 7/10

Didn't realise they did "More than a feeling" so pretty good and some cool riffs

Short and fun.

A classic but standard album. A bit lack luster at points

I was never a big fan of Boston, although I liked them better than Journey or Styx, who I think of as the same genre. I can appreciate the songs and the production though. 2.5 stars.

Classic rock at its finest

It was a great album. Definitely frontloaded with a less memorable B-side.

Boston

I'm now listening to the self-titled debut album of the band Boston. It opens with "More than a feeling" and it's one of the more recognizable songs for people of my generation. It's been played a thousand times on a thousand different classic rock stations throughout my life. Two for Tuesday! Rocktober! Or whatever gimmicky way to sell classic rock to the public. It was very effective, I've met many people who jumped on the classic rock bandwagon and never left. This might sound better if I had not heard all of these songs many times before. I should say it "sounds" very good and the music is very cleanly produced like a lot of music of the time. It's a giant of an album in the classic rock cannon. But I've heard it too many times over the years to really appreciate how great it was at the time. Too bad.

Ultimate dad rock. Great harmonies. Sounds like the 70s!

Didn't really like

Ganska gött sound, men det största problemet att musiken är oironiskt. Tänker främst på låten Rock'n'Roll Band.

Good cheesy rock. Some good tunes but cheesy and probably not my cup of my tea as an album as a whole

Very vanilla

70’er pop/rock, kor, fængende

More than a Feeling put me in a really good mood. I then lost a bit of interest as the album progressed.

Again, not my kind of genre, I'm trying to keep an open mind with rock leaning albums but yeah...

Has some great hits, the rest is kind of filler, overall enjoyable album

Closer to a 3.5. Can be a little basic sometimes, but plenty of super enjoyable pop songs. Reminds me a bit of early Steeley Dan

Good but a little boring for me. I did like some songs tho

Arena rock and hard rock built from soaring layered guitars, polished production, powerful harmonies, and pristine vocals feels like watching a spectacular fireworks display that somehow keeps launching the same few patterns—immediately impressive, relentlessly polished, and for me ultimately less exciting than it promises. The album is packed with hooks and technical perfection, but its larger-than-life sound becomes predictable fast.

Standard rock. Heard "More Than a Feeling" way too often and for me it's not a song that stands the time as it is just too cheesy and has no depth. 2/5 or 3/5

Radio Rock for white dudes

not having grown up with classic rock, I often come to popular records with fresh ears as an adult. Some of them, like Rumors, I fall in love with completely, but some of them, like this one, just bounce off me. I don't hate it at all, every single second is jam packed, it's so maximalist, but I am not terribly moved

an album that came and was popular during my first years of college. My roommates loved this album and played it all the time. Consequently, I hated it. Listening to it now, it is an ok album. I would listen to it if someone else put it on but I would not play it and certainly would not buy it. Listening to it again, it seems typical rock for the time and not my cup of tea

Boomer slop, its fine 2.5/5

Pretty good first track, rest I really hated. Not a good album in my opinion.

Not really

If i had a nickel for every mediocre album released in the mid 70s with over the top production, strong dad rock vibes and a space themed cover with a flying object, I would have two nickels. Which isn't much... ...But it's weird that it happened two times close enough welcome back Out Of The Blue...

😐 a bowl of oatmeal

Listened to this driving from the Cape to Boston, a ride I have done 100's of times, which during my early years almost certainly were done listening to these tracks via WZLX. Very similar in many ways to The Cars as far as its place in the Boston rock history. Both bands really clash with most other Boston culture and stereotypes. Boston is many things, but it is not glamorous, highly refined and all that upbeat. The Standells "Dirty Water" is more accurate, and of course they're from California. My point is, we could have used our own Springsteen but instead got BOSTON and this band sucks!

Reminds me of that time I had to explain to my mom what AOR was and realized I might be beyond saving.

Lame. I'm sure that they were cool at the time or whatever but I couldn't care less about this kinda stuff

Pas aimé, sûrement parce que je suis de mauvaise humeur, n'empêche très déçu beurk, fait le temps paraître long

Undisputedly one of the greatest rock bands in USA. With a small discography but huge sales, their debut album contains a 70s gem. The classic value of “more than a feeling”is evident from the fact that we know the song, we are moved by the energy and we remember the feelings it creates in us, while many younger people know the song itself and not the band .Favourite songs besides more than a feeling, foreplay/long time and hitch a ride

Nothing says 80s naff rock like Boston does

It's not trash. But any review that starts on that note means it ain't amazing. Put it this way, Boston finished and Spotify started playing me Chicago and my ears perked up.

more than a feeling is popular and know it. album is more upbeat in an old way. some songs are very repetitive, but if your in that vibe its good. Not my favorit though. 2/5ish

It's fine!

May not have aged well in the artistic canon but substantially more enjoyable than the junk from Lorde that came up on the list the day before 2.4

More than a feeling is a guilty pleasure the rest of this US corporate rock album wants to make me puke in particular the lyrics.

very something a dad would listen

The best way I can describe this album is as proto-21st-century computer-made music: a couple of "music scientists" in their lab attempting to engineer "the most perfect rock songs". So that's... basically the polar opposite of everything I love about music.

No like personalmente

i blame family guy and seth macfarlane for journey’s revival, and i blame that cradlesnatcher zach braff and scrubs for this getting popular again.

medicore, commerical, radio music. Not bad but not good

Fou cover, le seul UFO que je veux c'est celui en guitare

Seems like it was made for radio. Full of energy all the time, little bit cheesy though.

Tom Scholz recorded most of Boston's 1976 multi-platinum debut album in his Watertown, Massachusetts, home basement, not a professional studio. Working largely alone, the MIT-educated engineer and guitarist played most instruments and created his own equipment, crafting hits like "More Than a Feeling" in what became one of rock's most famous home-recording feats

Todays listen is Bostons debut album. I am going into this expecting good guitar work and bmbastic 70s rock and roll based on the hits I have heard before. I have always had Boston down as a band you cant escape from but one not a lot of people ctually listen to Boston was exactly as I expected. Very familiar yet slightly basicwith a lack of variety that can become boring. These tracks are al classic Dad rock tracks but they ack depth and variety, this album has the kind of music on a bang average radio station. Favourite tracks: More than a feeling is a great track. Least favourite tracks: Hitch a ride was a bit naff Album artwork: I love the album cover

I personally don't like American rock. I find the production of this album interesting, especially considering it was done by only two people. However, musically, I think all the songs sounded the same. The lyrics were annoyingly positive, very American style. I won't put any songs on my playlist.

Corporate friendly rock n roll

This record represents so much that I detested about popular music in 70s and why it bums me out how much it has endured. How was this one of the best selling debut albums of all times, as Wikipedia tells us? Sold 20+ million copies worldwide? WHY??? Sure, there are earworms, and people who know what they're doing with their instruments and behind their mics. But every song is bloated, wayyyyy too long, and dismayingly self-indulgent. Yes, there are songs on here I would sing along to at karaoke night. But they would need to play the abbreviated version. However, if I never heard another song off here for the rest of my life, that would be fine too.

Only one standout track

I can recognised the skill on display here I just don't like it at all

qué buena canción es More than a feeling, el disco no me gustó en general :( es un género que no me gusta tanto.

Сара 2.5 Марко 3

fav songs: more than a feeling smokin' exhausting, repetitive, radio 40/100

great start, but corny development

Hard Rock done in the most boring way possible. The kind of music your mates lame dad claims is the pinnacle of rock.

Rock classique bourrin sans nuances. Pas totalement mauvais, mais pas bon pour autant. 2-3 moments sympa mais le reste se ressemble énormément, de la musique de magasin de chaussures qui te donne envie de partir. 2/5

Rock for glade mennesker. Føles som plata bare har et gir. Ble slitsom i lengden.

Pretty tough to get through

too samey and not for me anyway

Longtime is good but very samey.

Not bad for a cock rock album

Meh, 1/8 liked

Glad I've listened to it. Glad I need not again. Last track quite good

Man, I'm supposed to LIKE arena rock. But I zoned out during this :/ Tracks I liked: peace of mind (only the guitars), something about you (again, only the guitars and beginning.)

I loved the start music of foreplay, but the rest isn’t my cup of tea

Instrumentales que draggean on too long.

More Than a Feeling enters the conversation for best first song off a debut album. Every song has gotten slightly worse. I will say that it's crazy that I recognize the first 4 songs though. It was a different time on FM radio when this came out. Thank god for streaming. The album is basically a 45 degree line down as each song is not as good as the one before it.

Ugh, More Than a Feeling is so overplayed I don't like hearing it. Rock, almost glam in places. Blues rock in others (Smokin') Wow, so generic I barely heard tracks changing.. Best track - Smokin 2 stars - nothing particularly memorable, and the style gets old so fast

Really just not my thing, I had no interest in this album and found myself completely zoning out on it while animating

Too much keyboard for me.

I actually really like More Than a Feeling. After that song it's cheesy forgettable radio rock.

Fine, I didn’t turn it off but I couldn’t tell you a thing about it apart from you’ll recognise the first song.

Not bad music per sé, but I fail to hear a real point of difference between this album and others released around this time that are also on the list.

Songzeile: A man came to the stage one night He smoked a big cigar Drove a Cadillac car And said "Boys, I think this band's outta sight" Manifest your destiny and be boring as fck.

One cheesily enjoyable tune the rest pretty forgettable.

I needed more than the feeling this gave me.

Monotono? Sí, pero disfrutable. Likes: More than a feeling - Long time -

Klingt alles ganz gut, wenn man es sich nur einmal anhören muss

Leider nicht viel "more than a Feeling" ...

Going in I thought that I had a bit of a soft spot for this, but nah, not really. More Than a Feeling also sits alongside Hotel California and some other things in the "songs I would prefer to never hear again for the rest of my life" category. I sort of think of this advent of this kind of music as the beginning of something of a dead end path for a certain type of rock music. You can draw a direct line from this to hair metal. Probably the most remarkable thing about this record is that one guy played just about every instrument on it. I'll concede that Tom Scholz is incredibly talented, that I was pleasantly surprised by some of the soloism on the tracks I don't know well, and that Foreplay/Long Time is a banger. None of that really saves it for being boring commercially-packaged stuff designed to be played in arenas for uncs with purchasing power. Like they even basically say as much in Rock And Roll Band lol Unfortunately, it's also probably among the best that this style of music has to offer. Already has me groaning in anticipation that we're likely gonna have to listen to Foreigner 3 one man bands out of 5, and lucky that I can't give half stars. Edit: revisiting this it has to break to a 2 based on where I've ranked other stuff.

The mixing is really good. It's very well produced and fun but nothing earth-shattering.

I feel like I’m in a 70’s period piece about teenagers savoring the last days of their adolescence. The songs kinda blend together after a while. I like the guitar though.

La unica que me gusto fue More than a feeling

Uninteresting and stupid lyrics but unoffensive for background music

Не моё, тупо восьмидесятые, афиг с more than I feeling

I know its classic, but i dont give a shit about it. Every song seens just generic. I guess it got Lost in time, diferently from others classics.

Funky, og lidt meh

Sounds good but very similar to other artists of the era just not as iconic, its just not hitting as hard as other similar albums.

Album was okay Some songs were too long - 8mins Its dancey Fav songs - peace of mind and more than a feeling Least fav- Foreplay / Long time Overall: 2/5

I am the "dad" when they talk about dad rock. I'm 62 years old and listened to rock music even before it was called classic rock. In the 80's I discovered lot of other genres (thank goodness), but this album is the type I grew up on. That being said, I actually never liked Boston. I didn't own this album and generally changed the radio station when their songs came on, or at least never really paid attention. I just found them uninteresting. There was nothing that made me think, "I get why everyone loves this band." I let out a groan when this came up today from the generator. It's not that I hate Boston, it's just that I don't care. I've never willingly listened to this album before. I figured I'd know about three of the songs. Much to my surprise, I knew all but one. The only one I'd never heard before, Something About You, had the same riff as a bunch of the other songs. I didn't strongly dislike this record. Mainly I was bored. It was exactly what I thought it was.

I assume that if I liked classic cars I would love this. However, I am at best indifferent to cars of all types, much like this music.

such an uplifting album but i just found it funny. More Than A Feeling is the only one that matters.

This album is not offensively bad, but it's not good either. The lyrics are uninspired and bland, and there are unnecessarily long instrumental breaks on one too many songs. Overall an extremely boring album. Two stars. (Favorite track: More Than a Feeling.)

I can tell how it’s a classic album however its sound is a bit repetitive to me with the instrumentals. Giving this album a 2/10.

Had some good songs, not totally in love with it though, it mostly felt very generic to me.

haven’t listened before (but i think i knew all the songs) it’s so fine. so listenable. felt like i was at the mall. fav: first 2 minutes of foreplay/long time

Starts off as fun maximalist AOR. It’s hard not to like More Than a Feeling. After that it starts to all blend into a sound I quickly tired of. By Smokin’ I’d already felt like it had gone on for hours. It is also beyond cheesy. Just not a fan of this one.

I was brainwashed by the Boston-area radio stations of the 70s to think this was worth listening to. Turns out that the only local heroes they had were these guys and Aerosmith, at least until the Cars came along. It's not the harbinger of power pop, it's the last gasp of dinosaur rock.

1 is too harsh but I can't imagine ever listening to this again. 2 it is.

Quickly reached Boston fatigue. Not offensive, but I doubt I'll seek it out again anytime soon.

Royalty free rock music

I was prepared to hate this and it's...fine. More than a Feeling is the big single. There are sections reminiscent of Deep Purple, Eagles/Maiden style guitar harmonies, even some.full on Crimson style prog, but it"s all a bit dull. Can see why it would have been loved at the time, but do we need another 'History of the band in a song' track? A low 3 for fans of the style, a high 2 for me because I'm bored of it.

1976 no excuse. Long boring songs. Excellent musicianship.

Torture, saved by some tunes like the massive hit "More Than A Feeling" but not my kind of music and the first in a long while that I have been tempted to skip.

A couple of good tracks, but mostly pleasant American soft rock. Middle of the road country, bland.

Sorry I tried

I now understand why we needed punk.

Musik. Folk säger det är "dad rock", kanske om din dad är född på 40-talet. Detta är ju gubbrock!

There's a strange mix of nostalgia and familiarity with this album. Most of that comes from the fact that even after almost 50 years, it's difficult to live a normal life and *not* hear More Than a Feeling at least once a year, probably at the dentist's office or the pharmacy... Favorite: Peace of Mind Underrated: Foreplay / Long Time Would be glad to never hear it again: More Than a Feeling

I wish I could just close my eyes and slip away from this album! Seriously though, this is far from the worst thing I've heard so far in this run but pompous, overblown, overproduced, 70s arena rock is just not my bag.

Very loud

Did not enjoy

Really weird listening to this album because it feels like I'm listening to the entire credits of an early 2000's family comedy movie. I guess I like that feeling? But it also feels like a bore for that same reason.

oh I know this lol who doesnt, nice to see some stuff I recognize finally :> and 70's music over 80's any day lol i mean its ok? i dont personally like/listen to this kind of music, its just road trip music 4/10, there can be much worse, i do not like how everysong ends like the end of a album would

it has one and a half good songs on it. the rest is cheese 1.5/5

I wore the grooves out on this when it came out, so it's difficult for me to disassociate the memories from the music. But I'll try... A good album, every song is a fun listen. What it lacks is any real passion, meaning, or message. But Hey! When you're a teenager blasting it through your headphones in your bedroom Rock and Roll is more than enough.

A light 2. There are some catchy songs, but the cheesy mid-70s radio rock thing just doesn’t do it for me.

Not terrible but not my bag.

Hol ich nach, kein Bock, keine Zeit. Eher nichts für mich.

114/1001 :: Boston - Boston Heard before? ❌ Would I revisit? ❌ Rating: 4 Listen before you die: No Nothing says Classic Rock radio like these Boston tunes. And while I find a lot of this album pretty cheesy there are definitely “Hot Licks” on here too. Some of the playing is kinda impressive inparticular the guitar work. But overall it’s too over the top especially the singing. Lastly, I’m still baffled that this spaceship with a city in it is the actual artwork. It’s so bad it’s practically iconic at this point.

37 minutes of background music for deodorant commercials.

I of course knew More Than a Feeling and I recognized a couple others. This is the type of music I don’t enjoy. I throw this band in with Styx, REO Speedwagon, and Journey as music that is tolerable, but that I don’t ever need to hear again.

The dad rock cringe is REAL.

just barely a 2

This sounded like a poor man's Eagles. Apart from the slay cover art, this album gave me guitar hero PTSD.

1 connue 1 bien ***

loud, dumb, cheesy, self indulgent, and all the album tracks are just worse versions of the singles. but it doesn't outstay its welcome and those singles are fairly fun

Clásico pero ahí está

Not quite my tempo. 2/5

Was this bad? No. Was this good? No. Just a very generic album, the sort of thing to pop up if you asked a Siri with no invasive knowledge of its owner "play me a rock album".

One-track album

More than a feeling aside this a lot of samey "rawk" music. Still the feeling pervades that it would improve with further listens. There aren't enough minutes or hours in the day for that though. 2 thumbs down.

Boston made the whitest record in rock history. It’s so white it should come with a bottle of sunscreen and a pair of cargo shorts. Scholz engineered the thing like he was calibrating medical equipment. The guitars are so polished they could blind you, the harmonies stack straighter than a row of filing cabinets, and the melodies march along in neat diatonic lines as if afraid of syncopation. Every ounce of grit and groove has been bleached away. It’s antiseptic rock: precise, polished, and utterly safe. Metallica were white, but their whiteness was brutal, disciplined, menacing. Nirvana were white, but their whiteness cracked, bled, and screamed its way into catharsis. Boston’s whiteness is sterile, like a dentist’s office waiting room. It gleams, but it never swings. The debut impresses as an engineering product, but as art it sits too clean, too careful. It’s the showroom car you admire for its wax job but would never actually want to drive. It removed the soul from rock, but it didn't add anything back.

I confess, that I have a soft spot for the pop rock of More than a feeling, but after it the album didn't really match that level.

For two first songs I was sure I won't be able to finish this album. Those songs were pain and agony for me. Luckily rest of the album had better vibes and even little progressive moments.

Those progressive parts of this album were decent. Otherwise this was just ok, nothing more.

One world hit, the rest I find disappointing. The contrast is simply too great.

one awesome song surrounded by a bunch of mediocre ones

Great 1st song. Weak album.

Surely no one would ever put this album on?

A career built on a chorus.

idk man. It was fine. 4/10 because I definitely don’t need to hear this before I die. 27/08/25

All by one person and a computer

OK, I tried to be fair here, but while the first leg of this album is DENSE with classics, generally everything from Rock & Roll Band through that trash pile of a final song are either middling or bad. Really, the best moment on this whole album is Foreplay. Not one I'll come back to but, again, appreciate the first leg. 2/5

This was so corny and had most of what I don’t like in bad rock. The lyrics were not thoughtful and it had so much clapping. I have heard most of this way too much on classic rock radio and the few songs I hadn’t heard were more of the same. I won’t give it one star because I am reserving that for truly painful experiences but this was not a fun listen.

forget about the songs themselves here for a sec: tom scholz has a masters from MIT?? he worked at polaroid?? he outfitted a mad scientists lair of diy music equipment to make the perfect rock song?? he conspired with the rest of the band to hoodwink the record company and get their unadulterated demos on the album?? this became the second highest grossing debut album of all time for a north american band?? lol. lmao, even. i like the story of boston more than the album itself, and the album itself isn't half bad. having just emerged from under a rock where i've been living for the past three or so decades, i can hear why people think these songs sound overplayed. this is a ceremonious and benevolent 2. highlights - more than a feeling

Mwah, niet super leuk maar ook niet stom

It's solidly fine, it's like every other 70s rock band. More Than A Feeling is catchy enough. 2/5 stars.

the longest 37 minutes of my life

A little bit middle of the road soft rock - beige

Only one good song

Har et MEGET nostalgisk forhold til More Than a Feeling, men ved sgu ik helt, resten af måske liiige lovlig 70er
