Reviews (page 12 of 15)

Ive heard these songs soooooo much on classic rock radio. I never need to hear them again.

Had its good moments but otherwise some of the sounds were not really speaking to me as in I just was like eh not for me. As in ok cool instrumentaly sounds and singing I guess, but I just was wanting something different and that’s okay. High 3/low4

Boring arena rock

Classic rock for a reason. I am a sucker for a good electric rock guitar! A very good 3 stars.

I was a cook at a big hotel when Boston came to stay - the band was sitting at the coffee shop counter when I went out to snag a drink. I overheard one of them say, "We're as big as the Beatles, now." 'Effing hilarious. Laughed until tears ran. As for the album, it's really simplistic, adolescent, soft rock pablum, musically a lot like, say, KISS.

why do they sound like wings lol

Not sure why Cobain was so derisive on this band, specifically more than a feeling when he made smells like teen spirit. It is impressive, and one could argue, punk, that some guy made this in his basement. The delp vocals do soar and I love the held high notes into a solo. Foreplay I've heard before and it always sounds like it is going into something much cooler than what it does. In the hall of the mountain king adjacent, not sure how that works. Everything else finds a four chord sort of riff, puts a solo with a lot of mordenting in it and chugs along. Its all good without ever being great.

If a space alien came to earth and asked hear one record demonstrating what 70s classic rock is, this would be a terrific choice.

Pop, Rock, 1976 -> 3

Dive bars everywhere rejoiced when this album was released because the knew, deep in their hearts, that they would have a plethora of new songs to add to their karaoke machines.

I hadn’t heard of them, but recognised the first track immediately. It’s giving me retro coming of age movie soundtrack straight off the bat. I can appreciate that this is good music, and I like the vibe. Although, it’s not really something I would listen to in my own time. I like the instrumental bits! Highlights: - More than a feeling - Smokin - Hitch a ride !

There's a couple bangers on here but 70s pop-rock ain't really my cup of tea. Really like the electric guitar especially but altogether it ain't my vibe.

First 3 songs are great but after that it's a little one note, not a bad note but not the best. It being under 40 minutes is a positive as well

Listening to this album makes you feel like you're on a roadtrip down an American highway about 30 years ago. Some bangers but does get a bit samey.

The twin guitar attack alone is like a 4.5 or 5. Everything else is very ok

Okay, I wasn't expecting much, but this album was pretty fun beginning to end.

You've either heard one of the eight songs on the album a zillion times since childhood or you have never heard it because it is objectively terrible. Still, I can't help but have some nostalgic link to this steaming pile of music shit.

Not too bad Boston, dad rock escuchable, nada más nada menos

Classic

Sounds like someone took some influence from Deep Purple, but took it in a more mellow direction. Strangely, I knew every song on this album, but have never put it on myself. The older I get, the more I feel like I understand Boston. It would definitely be a safe concert to slightly turn up and vibe.

It’s enjoyable (and recognizable) classic rock, but I had a hard time remembering it after I turned it off. Not a bad one to start on.

heh not too bad i guess

Barely gets a 3. You're on probation, Boston.

More Than a Feeling Peace of Mind Foreplay / Long Time

sounds like the base for a ton of things I like but not my style

Unfortunately, classic rock radio has ruined Boston, but it’s undeniable the music is good. It’s just so overplayed that it’s hard to appreciate it.

This was ok, not great but also not bad

First of all; great production! Clean and big sounding. The opening trio is really good, catchy rock. Then comes three rather mid tracks, before the album picks up again at the end. Not quite a four, though

Fun but cheesy album that does grow old kinda quick. Heard the top songs a lot on the radio which kills it a bit.

Non so perché ma è rock ma mi da anche delle vibes chill, da mettere in sottofondo per rilassarsi

I’m actually a bit disappointed with this one, considering its reputation. Instead of being an album classic, it was one classic song, a pretty good song, and the rest pretty meh. The classic, “More Than a Feeling” is so good that it alone makes the album worth a listen, and it’s stunning to think that it was created by one dude in his basement in an era without laptops and DAWs, but the rest of the short album can’t even come close to that gem.

I knew every song, and they were all hits. Boston isn't my favorite type of rock, but I appreciate Steve Lukather's guitar work, and the vocals are strong. It's really an impressive album.

Warm, inoffensive, not challenging at all, Boston are steak and potatoes rock & roll. I'm not really excited. It's very OK.

I was looking forward to this one, but it really seemed slighter than I imagined. Classic arena rock, but was too slick. Maybe if one of the few songs wasn't about being themselves, or that super basic smoking song. Still a 3, just for the rock screaming.

mothanafeling

Extra points for some real bangers, but otherwise its big meh

++: Foreplay/Long Time, Hitch a Ride +: More Than a Feeling, Rock & Roll Band, Smokin', Something About You, Let Me Take You Home Tonight +-: Peace of Mind 7,7/10

Fett najs, bättre än vad jag trodde Bästa låtar: More than a feeling, Foreplay / Long time

It was nothing to write home about, I enjoyed it tho

Listed to Boston by Boston in Boston (thanks for pointing this out, Mason) Great listen for Boston rush hour traffic on a summer Friday!

Fun album for sure. Is this the advent of "Arena Rock"? It has never been my style but the songs are well crafted, catchy, and rollicking. Just doesn't quite suite my taste.

Love More Than a Feeling but most of the album was not super memorable and kinda cheesy

This was pretty fun. Just a hint of prog stuff there to change it up so it wasn’t all just 70s rock sound.

now we're cooking with gas!

Neben dem Super-Hit dann plötzlich Deep-Purple-Opera (;o). COOL!

Good listen

A lot of fun, but too reliant of the formula bruv

Not Bad I enjoyed it a bit

sorry, when it comes to rock bands whose logo is a giant multicolored flying saucer my loyalties lie squarely with the Electric Light Orchestra.

So many hits. Never really been my vibe but much respect

I’ve never listened to the whole album, interesting guitar and vocals.

3 stars

Meh. Cheese. U.S. cheese rock. Meh.

Pretty solid - full of easy, listenable dadrock tunes

well, it's a classic. but not one i particularly enjoy.

This might be the rock album ever. It sounds like every song was written to be put it in a movie.

Immaculately produced, and its highs are some of the best Music To Blast Out Your Trans Am With The Windows Down™️ ever made. Now, sometimes that’s also its Achilles Heel, because it sounds, well, like an episode of That 70’s Show. I’m also not as enamored with the prog leanings as others. It’s extremely front loaded, with a dorky Side B, and even Side A is isn’t a flawless excursion. I think this album has almost been overhyped with time. Maybe this is just a New England thing, given the Boston connection, but this feels like an album every Dad showed their kid as an example of peak music. And it just…isn’t? Not front to back. Some of it might be, but as an album? God no. But music criticism in the 2000s seemed to confirm those opinions, so as a kid, I felt like it was one of those albums I HAD to enjoy. And now, ironically, I think the pendulum is swinging the other way, because I rarely hear anyone talking about this album. Which is also annoying, because I do want to champion its highs, and at only 8 tracks, it has more highs than lows. Overall, I would put it on, and I’d maybe even own a copy for cheap, but I’d do so more out of principle, or maybe societal obligation as a music fan. It’s definitely something everyone should hear, but I don’t know whether it holds enough punch nowadays to be seen as a favorite by anyone under the age of 50. But there are a couple tracks here that make it all worth it, and I do think a lot of people would still enjoy this record. For me, though, it just doesn’t have that ✨It Factor✨, that ✨sparkle✨ that it once did. While I think it comes close to a like, it lacks any true magic, so I don’t feel bad about shrugging my shoulders to it.

First half is great

Good album, but a bit repetitive, maybe just not my cup of tea personally

Solid white guy guitar rock. Pretty good songs. Better arrangements. I shouldn't have been surprised to find myself familiar with every song. Surely a classic and certainly above average. Not exactly essential hearing.

Better than expected

Liked only more then a feeling

It's hard for me to get in the proper mood to listen to this as it was intended. For example, I haven't seen a Camero in ages, and the drug companies stopped making quaaludes even before that. I understand the mastermind behind Boston is an MIT grad, and it was only after many years of studying quantum mechanics that I could appreciate this album properly and understood it's rating: it is not a 5 and it is not a 1, it is both a 5 and a 1.

Really consistent album--strong sound and production. I'm impressed with how well I remember these songs given that I didn't particularly like them when they came out. My nostalgia makes me want to give it a 4 but the teenage snob in me says give it a 3.

This album is good. Not great not bad just good. Moresongs on there that I liked and I was expecting

Reminiscent of the recent Darkness album which came up: this must have provided much of the template for that, albeit without any hint of irony or humour. Not much worse for that though; it's just an enjoyable listen and a pretty iconic, clean sound.

Not huge on Boston but they did a great job.

Fine 90’s movie background montage music

Solid but all very similar sounding

Except for "More than a Feeling" (which is a classic), I'd say this is not my favorite arena-rock band of the 70s

Default-ass rock album. Has good moments and ideas

Some great classics. Great production, but starting to get tired of white boys with rocky guitars

3/5 1st 2, hitch a ride and something about you were my favourites This and sly album both done 1/5/24 This better than sly album but liked both

Better than I remembered. Still overshadowed by the first track though.

God damn it! I like cheesy American 70's stadium rock now. This and Rush (I know they are Canadian but you know what I mean) have been great fun. I'm off to buy a denim jacket with the sleeves cut off, a trucker cap and air guitar like a muthafucka.

3.5 stars. Solid rock album. Best song: More than a feeling

All Boston songs sound the same to me. I don’t dislike the band or the album, but I wouldn’t seek it out either.

This may be the most American thing I have ever heard.

oku ! 7/10

Good album for the summer, feels like being outside and drinking a beer

Not bad. Liked most songs.

Quintessential Dad Rock.

What a banger is “More than a feeling”. Absolutely an amazing song. The rest of the album is pretty good. Dad rock as some might say. Good album, I enjoyed it. Favourite songs: - More than a feeling - Peace of mind

not great, just ok

Quite like

Dad rock, specifically my Dad

Classic rock royalty that sounds like a sports commercial, except for one song: "Foreplay" (the intro to "Long Time") which is as close to actual prog rock as any classic rock radio gets these days. I'm all for power pop, but all the sharp edges have been sanded off. One star for ubiquity, two stars for "Foreplay."

Quite okay, but there’s also much better stuff that came out of 70s

More Than a Feeling 3.8 Peace of Mind 3.5 Foreplay/Long Time 3.4 Rock & Roll Band 3.4 Smokin' 3.2 Hitch a Ride 3 Something About You 3.3 Let Me Take You Home Tonight 3.2 Score: 3.35

So middle of the road. It's like the most boring parts of queen and the eagles. But I'm now a dad and I can honestly say I grooved a bit.

Opening track rips but the rest doesn’t quite hold up.

A totally ok rock album.

I’m glad the album was short and “More Than a Feeling” is a pretty good song.

This was such a popular album when it first came out that it ended up being massively overplayed on the radio. One power ballad after another.

Tasty licks and great production, but sounds a little cheesy.

Couldn’t get into it

Hard going is what Mrs P said and I have to agree.

Good 80s rock.

Good ol’ cheesy crap

Solid 80s rocks. Enjoyable, More Than a Feeling the obvious banger on this album.

This was like proto-The Darkness. Permission to Land early eighties style.

70s rock at its epic daddest. Squealing harmonised guitars and melodic vocals over chugging drums. The first song is amazing, the rest are so-so but the overall effect is... quite welcome on this Sunday morning.

i thought it was good! i knew more than a feeling and recognised a few more nothing crazy rock n rollllll

Fun for car

The album production is on point. Every instrument sounds at peak performance. I don’t know who was inspired by Boston but I can hear the sound of bands like The Darkness, Bullet for my Valentine and Baroness. This isn’t an album for someone who doesn’t like guitar driven, fast paced music. You’d be hard pressed to find an Elliot Smith fan putting on Boston when they want to change it up. I’m impressed enough to listen to more by them. Choice Cut: Peace of Mind

There are so many bangers on here, I wanted to give this a 4, but the more I think about it, I think this deserves a 3. I do think the fact this is a debut album makes it more impressive, but I still haven’t decided if I want to take that into account for my own rating system. More than a feeling is a very good song. I’ve heard it on the radio 40000000 times, so it didn’t excite me very much. Peace of mind and long time are also really well known songs, but I think the fact they’ve received so much radio play hurt this here. If I was hearing this for the first time, I think I would’ve been more impressed. Cohesion is a good quality for an album to have (in my opinion) but even at just 8 songs, with a few exceptions, this all just starts to sound the same. There are really rippin guitar solos and great harmonies, but I found myself as bored as the songs were good. I usually don’t write this much. Does that make sense? This album had great songs, but it was also saved by the fact that there weren’t more of them. I’m torn between a 3 or a 4, but I’m calling this a 3.4905.

Fun sound but nothing special here - More Than A Feeling is the Standout here.

- some good jamming on here - not as corny as I expected it to be - More Than a Feeling is a classic - 3.5

Nice, but Not great. 3/5

More than a feeling is a great hard rock song, the riff that blow us up and the powerfull chorus is truly magneficent. Its the most famous song from the album, wich was a huge huge sucess, because of the hard rock sound and the sound perfecltly fit arena and big concert. Rock And Roll Band is pretty good The organ in Smokin' remind me of Highway star and that's a good thing There is a coupple of accoustic song like: Hitch a ride, Peace of Mind or Let me take home tonight The album is gloabbly a mix between Machine Heads of Deep Purple and Sheer heart attack by Queen, like hard rocking song, epic solos and some accoustic part more chorus singing. I feel the album is a bit overtated and make to be radio hits, and that not a bad thing in whole, especially here the songs are good, not as great as other Hard Rock artist but in the mighty 70's rock they have their place

It was good, but it just felt like a typical rock album.

To me honest I thought Boston was 80s hair rock, I had no idea songs like “more than a feeling” and “hitch a ride” were mid 1970s. Feels ahead of its time in a way. Good, not great, but that’s just my taste

More than a feeling Piece of mind Smokin’

Hiten är bra. Sen är det lite svagare.

This probably was cool back in the day but comes across as generic classic rock. Still enjoy More Than A Feeling though. I can see the progression from this to 80s rock though.

3.25 per track.

Who doesn't like the opening "More Than a Feeling", a classic stadium rock track from the mid 1970s. But apart from this, it's a pretty mediocre album.

Nicht meins, aber ok.

Classic rock but drops off side b

More than a feeling - great. The rest seem like the same song.

Very feel good

Very close to 4 stars but not quite there. 73/100

The classic opener More Than a Feeling is of course a great song, but the rest of the album sounds very middle of the road to me.

Quite decent middle-of-the-road rock with a huge classic at the start.

Very jangly jangle pop guitar. Some nice harmonies. More Than a Feeling is an iconic song. Still nowhere near Steely Dan and Talking Heads but that's okay! Maybe if I listen more I will enjoy it more.

Classic!

Boston, it's not about you, it's about me. I appreciate your influence on the music industry, but sorry, your music is quite repetitive.

3.5/5. Pretty acoustic intros, well mixed record for rock. Definitely pushing prog in some areas.

Perhaps I would’ve liked this a bit more if it didn’t remind me of American car commercials

Didn't listen to it super hard but I'm just not a fan of pop rock. More than a feeling is awesome though.

Lots of guitars

Muito bom

Better than I thought it would be at the beginning. Still a lot of cringe and dated cliche lyrics that just don't work for me. It might have been a solid 5 the year it came out but it's not timeless at all. Solid 3.

Bueno, dime Boston, dime Chicago, dime Ohio, me ha sonado un poco a lo mismo. Qué se le va a hacer.

The album starts out strong with the first four tracks and and keeps it up through the back four, but the last track is lacking compared to the rest - probably my least fav off the record. That being said, the album doesn't feel bloated and you can easily listen straight through it. I'm a slut for some organ and this record doesn't dissapoint. For something out of the mid-70's the sound is pretty impressive - this is an all time classic for a reason ...are 1-album wonders a thing?

Not bad.

Brought back memories of my teenage years.

das erste lied ist toll. der rest ok

Couple of extremely well known songs, the rest were just as cheesy

I used to hang out with a bunch of stoners in the 80s who listened to this album ad nauseum, so I’m over it. But it is an impressive debut album with strong production value, a classic, yadda yadda yadda take my 3 stars and get the fuck out of here.

bueno 3.2/5

This was pretty good, especially the first half. The last few tracks sound like they zoned out while playing and then got back into it in the last minute

I've enjoyed this, but I have to be honest that it mostly sat in the background. I looked up and it had practically finished. So it's good, but obviously not gripping enough to push the score up further.

Sounds der 70er aber mit durch aus rockiger Attitude. Ordentlich abgestimmtes Gesamtwerk mit dem Hit „More than a Feeling“ zu Beginn. Prägnante Gitarren-Solos und starke Drums versetzen einen in eine verrauchte Kellerbar der 70er mit Acryl-Shirts und Cordhosen.

Pretty unmemorable album excluding a couple solid songs

Paar bangers, paar matig

Paar goede knallers

I really enjoyed vocals and harmonizing in the background. Guitar at times seems outdated now, but drums were awesome. Relatable lyrics. My favorites were Foreplay/Longtime and Let me take you home tonight.

A very solid album all around

Solid if not one I'll go back to

Good 70s rock

Fun memories.

It was a bit of fun, probably not the best in genre though.

Duplicate

Perfectly okay. Lightly epic 70s rock, easy to listen to, energizing. "Foreplay / Long Time" has nice instrumental stuff at the beginning (I guess that's the foreplay). "Hitch a Ride" also starts strong, but becomes more samey as it goes. But then it ends with something as vapid as "Let Me Take You Home Tonight"...

I've listened to this one a million times. Good one.

First song is overly familiar making it feel kind of rote. Second song was pretty good but after that it really started to get tedious. I think having Foreplay / Long Time as the third track really killed the momentum of the whole album. Finding all the songs very basic. Not bad just meh. Very radio friendly.

Enjoyable. Some songs a bit too heavy for me.

Quite good, some very 70s vibes.

Classic classic rock. 3.5 stars.

Pretty good. The songs are great, but sound too similar. It starts to drag after the first 3-4 tracks.

It was ok - short so it didn't drag and general rock which I like, but idk after giving talking heads a 4 yesterday it feels wrong to give this a 4 as well

Finally a rock'n'roll album for us guys, idk pretty OK rock but not much more. Does not leave much room for imagination

This entire album feels like this scene from SpongeBob https://youtu.be/cUZNXgIXM1c?feature=shared

Another perfectly fine album. If every track was as good as Foreplay/Long Time it would be a 4. This is the first album I expected to rate higher before listening to it. More Than A Feeling is overrated (or at least overplayed)

Boston's eponymous album, a staple of 1970s rock, dominates classic rock radio with its enduring tracks. More Than a Feeling stands out as a phenomenal banger, while the rest of the album provides a pleasant but less impactful listen. The score reflects my love for the lead single and the overall inoffensive nature of the album. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 1 STAND OUT TRACK - More Than a Feeling

Another solid offering, one I've heard over bits and pieces over the years. Although probably massive at the time I think it's probably a little dated. Some bangers/classics on this for sure.

classic rock easy listening

It’s a pretty cool album iconic song on it

Exactly what to expect from hard rock from the 70ies

Wait, this was all recorded in a band member’s basement studio?! And it’s a debut? Wow. It’s a gear shift in music cannon and it was ruined by commercial radio overplayed the singles. Shame, because the music is good. Overall: 5/10

Have heard before, Very good rock album from the 70s. Best songs "more then a feeling" and "Piece Of Mind".

Classic. Not my favorite of the Era, well done nonetheless

Fun classic rock, a good listen

Sure. Fine

Cheesy? Maybe. But "More Than A Feeling" does make me feel a kind of way. If you grew up listening to classic rock radio you can recognize a Boston song from miles away. That voice, the production style, the massive hooks and arena rock polish. You even get some prog-adjacent instrumental action on the third track. My primary complaint with this record is that some of these melody lines and hooks sound a bit too similar to each other to be on the same record: "Rock & Roll Band" compared to "Peace of Mind" is one example. Anyways, nostalgia and joy give this a decent score. But not quite a great score.

Not Bad, nothing special to me however

This is a really good album chock-full of classic rock songs. Only reason this has 3 stars is because I've heard all of these songs way too much.

Boston

Fun 70's rock album that doesn't run for too long. Only downside is I had to listen to this one too much growing up.

Bostong

First song is a banger! Rest is okay. 6/10

Encountered a familiar situation where I wonder if I only like the hit songs I've grown up listening to, and it's the familiarity that primarily drives my enjoyment, giving an unfair advantage to equally-good rock music new to me. I was also battling the bias of being from Mass, but it sounding very arena rock brought it to a similar level as Aerosmith for me. Still overall it sounded fresh, switched it up across the tracks, and didn't overstay its welcome. Surprised growing up that some adult didn't play the whole album in my presence and cause me to be forced to regard it highly coming back to it now. 6.5/10

I enjoyed this.

Nice to have a break from dad rock with some *hard* dad rock

First two songs are well known and great. But then I realized that the whole album sounds the exact same. I couldn’t even tell what song was playing. One note. And eventually very dull. It’s alright for background music, but boring in the end.

Not excited to listen to this. I didn't know all these songs were from one album. Impressive. Apparently this set a new course in pop music. For me, "less is more" with Boston. None is best. 3.0

Lot of good songs but still just not really my vibe

It's a good album of the songs that I already liked.

Impressions: Something for the dads and uncles from Gen. Y. Favorite tracks: More Than a Feeling Rating: 3/5

Good Liked tracks: More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind

OK, not great.

I can't remember a single track. If it came up on shuffle, I think it would take a minute to realise that I've heard it before.

"More Than A Feeling" is a banger. The rest of the album is OK, if a little forgettable.

The first song is brilliant, and then it is all a bit samey after that.

Pretty nice, a little forgettable but still pleasant, nonetheless.

Classic dad-rock (though my own dad would never be caught dead listening to Boston); would be remiss to ignore the iconic cover art, which would become a mainstay of the band, with each of their albums featuring UFOs or space shuttles; high energy and made for head banging and fucking some chick behind the dumpster outside the concert because you got caught trying to sneak drugs inside. Hope you're ready to be a dad yourself because congrats, she's pregnant. Has a very similar vibe to Styx, Bon Jovi, Steve Miller Band, and Foreigner, but I suppose that comes with the territory of this kind of hard / glam rock. Tight vocal harmonies across the board, with vocalist Brad Delp belting his tenor into the stratosphere (his voice is kind of insane). The album is surprisingly short for the amount of hits it contains. The song order is strong, starting with some of the band's biggest hits of their career. You know, after dunking on this album a bit, I have to acknowledge it does serve a bit more than it has any right to; some of these songs colored childhood car rides with my mom (she likes to have fun). Many of these songs have a similar sound and feeling to them, but I don't know if it bothers me as much on this record; the outright energy, the swing, and the groove of each song feeds and builds the next. There's a nice flow to the album, and I picture a live band at a roadhouse just rocking out, and I can't really fault them for that. I also enjoy that the band wasn't scared to release songs of varied length, rather than making each song a uniform 2.5-3 minutes. Standouts: Side A, Let Me Take You Home Tonight

Rock suave 80's. More Than a Feeling.

I liked a couple of songs but otherwise it wasn’t my favorite.

Bono can suck my sack

sounds like normal 70s rock

Classic rock. I felt like I'd heard some of the songs before but in a forgettable way, maybe because while great songs and probably amazing for their time, there was nothing particularly standout to me...

75% of this album gets played regularly on classic rock radio.

Not bad. More than a one hit wonder

classique album rock. rien a redire 7.5/10

Good sing along songs if you know the words. Cool story.

Nostalgisch, leuk om het hele album te horen ipv losse nummers.

The album, as a whole, was alright; though I don't see myself returning to this on a regular basis. Giving this three stars, as I see it unfair for a two star rating.

It's good, not mind blowing, but a couple of bangers in there

This albums wasn't bad, though it's really not my favorite genre of rock. I definitely recognized more songs on the album than I thought I would but I really had no knowledge of Boston as a band aside from knowing their name. I think this is a good debut for a band that I don't see myself digging too much more into, so I have to give it a middling rating. Standout Tracks: More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Long Time

Mediocre

A really fun record that loses a bit of steam for me on the B side. Best enjoyed by the lakeside on a hot Summer day, partaking in your vice(s) of choice. When it's chugging along in all of its 80s glory, it makes you want the good times to keep rolling.

I'm sure this was groundbreaking in its day, but now that I have heard every song on the radio 100s of times, it's just not that interesting.

Boston came out swinging with "More Than a Feeling" directly followed by "Peace of Mind". Punches you right where your late 70s classic rock nostalgia would be, if you were old enough. Quickly runs out of gas, though. There is no lasting impact. Still very easy and kind of fun to listen to ...since it might be the most generic rock album I've ever heard. 3.5/5

3 I know Will loves this album, and I can see why - there’s certainly a fun energy to it - but despite my best efforts, I just don’t quite feel the same. Having half of your album become classic rock staples is a really impressive feat for sure, but despite that, the only song that really stands out to me personally as something more than just a typical slice of the era is More Than a Feeling, and that’s probably mostly due to its inclusion in the first Guitar Hero. Foreplay/Long Time is enjoyable enough I suppose, and I do like how it transitions from a Yes-esque keyboard solo into one of the heavier, catchier songs on the album, but still it’s never quite sold me as something I feel the need to return on my own volition. Don’t feel like I have much to say beyond that - to me, this is just kind of an adequate entry for the genre, and I don’t feel like there’s a ton of meat on it to dive into. Never something I would complain to hear, but also likely not something would ever put on personally.

I've always wanted to get more into Boston. Unfortunately my intro to them as a kid was to Third Stage instead of this absolute banger of an album.

Solider Dad-Rock, aber außer 'More Than a Feeling' nichts wirklich berauschendes dabei. Solide 3 Sterne klingen sinnvoll.

Good fun album

I didnt need to listen to this one, as Ive heard it several times before. Boston is an interesting group in that they were essentially just one guy's project fleshed out with sessiin musicians. The hits are good, if not super tied to the era in which they came out. The soaring vocals are always impressive but can get tiresome. It's decent. Not great.

Old one nothing for me

dad music

Two songs in. On the off chance that I forget to come back and review this, let me put, on record, how much of a sucker I am for 70s/80s dad rock with a heavy emphasis on falsetto-ish harmonies. I did the thing. My point about dad rock harmonies holds true. I could've used less of this album though... or just more variety. 3 stars

Followed 2 shit albums, was uplifting and more than a feeling is a good tune. Generous 3.

No more than a three-ling 👍🏾

„More than a feeling“ is still a great rock song. But the rest didn’t catch me as much as I wished for.

As much as I dislike classic rock, this album is worth a listen. Many of the tracks are forgettable, but the Foreplay intro is iconic.

First two tracks awesome. Track three drags a bit. Track four a bit derivative. Track 5 standard R&R number. Track 6 slower acoustic. Metal meets CSNY. Picks up pace half way through. Track 7 decent. Track 8 a weak closer

MORE THAN A FEEEELING. Music is pretty decent, just not that interesting to me in comparison to their rock peers of the time.

Kinda gay but some undeniable classics here

Fascinating story behind this album and a great example of the style. 3.5/5

Meh, musica de mae. Eu soh gosto de More than a Feeling mesmo

Every 70s radio station is legally required to play Boston at least 7 times a day. -fake fact

Classic rock radio mainstay. Not bad, but not my thing.

Not amazing, but I like the songs on it. In fact, it does keep a consistent quality, and I can even see why one would rate this 5 stars. I especially like ‘Peace of Mind’. It’s just a good song. In my books, give it a listen; it’s fun.

A couple great arena rock songs from my youth. The rest were solid. Very good album

adult rock sounds kinda outta date

More than a feeling is fire, the rest are passable

nice, vibey

More Than a Feeling is a classic for sure, the rest is fine.

A great classic album. Many of the songs are still in rotation today. Interesting to learn about the recording process and how the band got together to create this album. An incredible debut, though not particularly influential or significant beyond its' popularity

More Than a Feeling is the only song I know from these guys, and it's a classic even though it is boomer rock. This is alright I guess. They suffer from the pitfalls of all music in the 70s where their songs are longer than they need to be and kinda just fade out. Their guitar riffs are nice though. Definitely getting proto-metal vibes from this. I kinda like this (not enough to put it on a playlist though) A strong 3/5

Old school!

A quite epic rock opera album that whilst only 37 minutes long, feels like the perfect amount for how grand Boston have made it feel. I believe that has to do with the instrument effects used, which was quite revolutionary at the time. Best: More Than A Feeling Worst: Something About You 3.5 Stars

The first three tracks here, which make up side A, are fantastic. Classic songs I've been hearing all my life. They still sound great but it helps to be in the mood for this sort of cheesy pop metal. I've probably heard them a few too many times but they are great. The second half of the album has more of the same style but the songwriting feels like a step down. There was a moment or two when I felt like the band was recycling riffs and melodies. I almost wasn't sure if it was a musical reprise or just a lack of new ideas.

Day 94 I had more than a feeling that this wasn't going to be for me, and I wasn't wrong. Still, I was really surprised by how much variety there is in this album. Hitch a Ride is the most "Southern rock" track on this and features some acoustic guitar bridges and a gospel-ish ending. Foreplay / Long Time has some prog twists and turns and it's easily the most interesting thing on here; again, I really liked the acoustic guitar touches. Rock n Roll Band and Smokin' are uninteresting odes to the rock and roll life, with the latter having a church-y organ break in the middle.  Forever confined to the discount bin, the day this will go for $40 I'll know that the world has really gone wrong.

This album is definitely a lot and there’s nothing wrong with that but it really felt a bit pummeling for my taste.

Lotsa overplayed classic rock radio on this one. Was hoping to discover something new on this, but the hair guitar and keyboards give me agita. I was read to move on shortly after Foreplay.

More than a feeling Easy listening

Hey now! I remember getting the 8-Track of this when it came out along with everyone else. "Boston" is the debut album by American rock band Boston. Multi-instrumentalist and engineer Tom Scholz had composed these songs many years earlier. After peddling the songs around to no success, he eventually got signed to Epic. Scholz recordered the album in his Massachusetts' home as the other co-producer John Boylan played subterfuge and hid that fact from Epic who thought he was recording in LA. The genres include arena rok and pop rock. This album might be the poster child for them. A decent description is vocals inspired by The Left Banke, the guitar sound by The Kinks and Yardbirds and the balance of acoustic and electric guitar from classical music. Lots of layers too in the guitar and vocals. A massive commercial success becoming the fastest selling rock album of all time, selling over 20 million copies worldwide and all seven songs becoming classic rock staples. Boy, we all know that. Acoustic guitar, bass and drums begin " More Than A Feeling." That classic guitar riff, solo and vocals. Of couse, it's catchy. Soft-loud-soft. The chorus progression based on The Left Banke's "Walk Away Renee." Yeah, I hear that now. Daydreaming and a love affair. "Peace of Mind" continues the balance between acoustic and electric guitar. It's about Scholz's bosses at Polaroid and their indecisions. We got prog in "Foreplay/Long Time." Layered vocals, guitars and an organ. Starting to see a pattern here. Scholz throws some guitar noise effects in "Rock & Rock Band." Classic rock for sure. They go for more of a southern bluesy sound in "Smokin.'" An organ jam too. And the album ends with a ballad of sorts in "Let Me Take You Home Tonight." Country and soft rock heaven here. Nice acoustic layers and organ. No overblown solos. There is no doubt this album has excellent production with layered guitars and vocals, catchy choruses, well placed guitar solos and pace changes. These songs were extremely overplayed back in the 70's and 80's. I did enjoy this listen again but admit that by the sixth song it did get repetitive. I'm sure everyone has their own opinion on these songs and album. No need for a recommendation or not; I'm sure everyone has a position.

Was lots of fun, the guitars and production are excellent and his voice his stunning. It does peak with the first song but it manages not to become to repetitive with the classic rock and roll sound. 3.5

Peak 70s Rock - More than a Feeling is of course a strong showing - the rest? Nothing to really write home about. It’s great it’s not a long record so it’s pleasant but not memorable by any measure.

Strong hits, but not exactly what I am looking for in music.

Amazing voice but the band confuses me whether it’s rock or pop sometimes

Like the recent Supertramp LP, this was in constant rotation at every house party back in the day. I haven’t listened to this for decades but still know every song and every lick. The recordings make the songs sound as good as they possibly could. Nothing like playing songs live for a couple of years before recording - practice makes perfect. While the album got the airtime, I preferred Supertramp back in the day and wouldn’t have ever listened to Boston again were it not for the 1001. It’s a good example of mid 70s Arena Rock and, for old times sake, won’t be too hard on it.

If I listened to this album cold today I would think sheesh this is cringey, cliched and corny Dad Rock. But seeing as I basically grew up listening to this on the radio and have probably heard this many hundreds of times its seared into my consciousness and it does indeed bring me back to my formative years. I gotta also admit that Tom Scholz's production and songwriting and guitar playing are exemplary. I didn't realize when I listened to this 47 years ago that Scholz incorporated his Classical music background into some of the songs, eg, the Baroque organ intro to Foreplay. This was subconsciously the gateway to the wonderful world of Classical music and Prog for me. This album would have gotten a pretty high score from me but the corny boogie woogie tracks like Smokin' and the cliched ballads like Hitch a Ride just can't be overlooked.

Classic rock masterclass right here

I'm giving this 3 stars because I'm feeling generous. But honestly, it's not as bad as I initially thought it was going to be.

Good, my favorites were ‘More than a feeling’ and ‘Peace of mind’. But at some point, the songs begin sounding the same and just feel like altered versions of what I previously heard. Still good though, just a bit repetitive. 3/5

Some big songs on this debut

Perfectly adequate AOR.

I’ve always enjoyed the hits from this album but haven’t listened to the whole thing until today. Those hits stand head and shoulders above the rest, but songs like Smokin’ and Let Me Take You Home Tonight make this such an easy front to back play that it’s hard to knock any points off. The hooks are big, the choruses are bigger, it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome, a simple pleaser on all fronts.

Iconic, catchy, I didn't grow up around rock music that much so I only recognize more than a feeling which I heard on the radio all the time even though it was the 2000s. Anyway, I have this record but I haven't gotten along to listening to it, rock isn't really my thing but it is energetic and movie like.

Something about this album, one that I know all the songs bc it has been a classic rock staple for nearly half a century… bugs me. It’s goofy. Not terrible. & all the songs sound pretty much the same. & it seems that they are making songs that combine stuff earlier artists that came before, yet did it all better: Queen, The Who, Black Sabbath; & became the “corporate rock”/arena rock template for the 70s-early 90s. It’s like the music the younger brothers of all the pre-1975 bands made an album, & its core audience are people who were 20-25 in 1976. Underwhelming despite their technical virtuosity… Basically it’s music for people who prefer Jefferson Starship to Jefferson Airplane

Know every song on it. No deep cuts.

It's alright

Good ol' classic rock. The last 2-3 tracks are mediocre but it's mostly fun.

Great album, classic songs

Pues aquí está el "More than a feeling", año 76, no se hable más. En general suena muy bien y está claro que la primera canción eclipsa todo el disco. Pero merece la pena oírlo.

Ever notice how bands named after places all have their BIG SONG that nets 15 minutes of fame/endless radio replay? And then everything else they do is just kinda... there? See for yourself: Europe = The Final Countdown Kansas = Dust In The Wind Chicago = Saturday in the Park Asia = Heat of the Moment Boston = More Than a Feeling To be fair, the first three tracks of this album are full blown classic rock in all its timeless glory. The rest, well, they had to make a full album of material so you get some more impassioned guitar noodling to pull you through to the end, but nothing that dares soar nearly so high as More Than a Feeling. Which is the transcendent track, it is a whole ass mood for a specific time and place and I'll always dig it. But overall, not worth going much further into this catalogue.

This album is a solid, upbeat classic rock album. Not my favorite, but you could do a lot worse.

More Than a Feeling is such an unusually structured song. Why is the end at the beginning, and the beginning in the middle? Still, it works. Don't know any of the other tracks, I'm guessing from the reviews that the other songs besides the opener still get played a lot in the States. But this might be the most unfathomable thing, a good soft rock album. I'm still drifting off during Rock and Roll Band though. Once I realised I was bored nothing brought me back, but this type of stuff isn't for me anyway. Good fun.

Nice album. The songs are very much all in the same style. Makes me think of bands like Journey and Aerosmith.

I think classic rock radio stations are required to play any or all of this record's side A twice a day. In defense of Boston, "More Than a Feeling," "Peace of Mind," and "Foreplay/Long Time" are all standards of AOR. Still enjoy these singles when they come on. Side B however is not even close to as memorable, kicking off with the MotorcycleDadCore "Rock & Roll Band" which comes off as generic rock filler. "Smokin'" is handily the best of the cuts on the flip side, with upbeat riffage and some bizarre organ soloing that I found very amusing yet engaging. The band pivots to more of a balladry angle on both "Hitch a Ride" and "Let Me Take You Home Tonight," with the latter comprising something far too reminiscent of The Eagles or maybe even Chicago. "Something About You" is like part II of "Peace of Mind" with the musical composition being almost entirely too copy & paste. Still, I can't fault this album for providing a perfect opening trio of songs for the encyclopedia of classic rock.

Scale: 1: Dissapointing 2: Didn't enjoy 3: Decent 4: Enjoyed 5: Would listen again (My first impression if not mentioned otherwise in a comment) More Than a Feeling: 3/5, fine Peace of Mind: 4/5, cool Foreplay/Long Time: 2/5, way too long Rock & Roll Band: 2.5/5, ok Smokin': 3/5, fine Hitch a Ride: 4/5, finally a song that sounds a little bit different Something About You: 2/5, idk Let Me Take You Home Tonight: 3/5, fine Overall: 2.94/5 average boomer rock album, every song sounds the same but decent most of the time.

Full on Guardians of the Galaxy album this. Had a good time listening to it. High 3

Felt like I was on Waynes World in parts mixed with Guardians of the Galaxy. Good time this one. Nothing too deep, just sweet 70s rock

Definitely not bad but felt like a large majority of the album was just standard Faves: More Than A Feeling, Rock & Roll Band, Hitch a Ride, Let Me Take You Home Tonight

It was OK. Some classic rock moments, but felt a bit dated

Vanilla ice cream.

Rock suave 80's. More Than a Feeling.

*Supernatural* soundtrack-type music, lol. Classics of Dad Rock. "Peace of Mind" is the only worthwhile song on here, but it unironically rules, basically single-handedly elevating the whole album

This is a precursor to the 80's power ballady, hair metally music which I absolutely despise. Because of that I wasn't looking forward to this album at all. But it's handled with a sense of maturity and conviction which the likes of Leppard and Van Halen totally lack to my ears. There also a thread of 70's blues which runs throughout which I think was totally lost by artists that were influenced by this. Of course more than a feeling is the best song on the album, its the kind of tune that any band would find it difficult to top. But the rest of the album does a great job at keeping the energy going. I think Rock & Roll Band, which comes about half way through is another high point. A textbook 3

Lots of classics
