Best: More than a Feeling Worst: Smokin' Classic rock and I can definitely see why so many other bands imitated and transformed that classic "Boston Rock" sound.
Not a bad band. Some good tunes. Good album.
Slatki album, ima tu dobrih stvari, pogotovo kad krenu rokati orguljice. Kul pozadinska glazba. 3/5, 6/10
3/5 not bad, has the vibes of the old rock days
Listening to this album, I realized I've actually listened to this whole album before! "More Than a Feeling" is unchallenged peak, "Peace of Mind" and "Foreplay/Long Time" were solid, "Smokin'" was just awful and I almost skipped it after a few minutes, everything else was fine. Best: "More Than a Feeling" Worst: "Smokin'"

My dad loves this album
Boston actually accomplishes that classic rock sound from the 70's/80's that makes a lot of those bands sound monotone, but adds variance into their music, continuously twisting the sound. Most of the songs still suffer from being 5+ minutes long with repeating refrains that play better at a concert than listening in the background. More than a Feeling and Peace of Mind will always be classics though.
Dad rock :/ Led Zeppelin but if it was Guns N’ Roses (aka worse) First half is pretty good but it gets progressively worse… not bad just generic
I think I can appreciate this album a lot because I wasn’t around when overplay was grinding everyone’s gears into bits. But I really enjoyed this one. Despite being genuinely shocked to hear more than a feeling in the wild, there you can see that I have no clue about anything. Still this was pretty fun!
Além das duas citadas acima também gostei de Peace of mind, Hitch a ride e Something about you.
i have a connection to this. i my mom liked the beatles first and van morrison second, hands down boston is next. this record is pretty much all hits. i don't love these guys, but its hard to deny how catchy these are. this record was on Rock Band and it was super fun to play. they just have a very even, uncontroversial, clean style whether you like it or not. i've always thought of them as an 80's band, but these are all the songs i know from '76.
Helt ok, rätt bra bitvis
Dad rock, lots of radio olay
Actually not bad. Not really my type of music, but I kinda liked it, and there were some bangers. 3.5 stars.
Everything about this album is well done. The guitars, the vocals, the songwriting, production, and general cohesion is flawless. But it just sounds so utterly generic. I know it isn't their fault; they're so influential that many acts copied their sounds and they're so popular that radios played them to death, so no wonder it just feels tired 50 years later. But I don't see myself listening to this album through again, so I can't bring myself to give it more than three stars.
Good to know that exists
Basic 70s Bitch.
it's like a cup of coffee from a diner, it's good enough.
The quintessential 70s rock album, ubiquitous and eternal. Was there ever a more appropriately named band and album? Boston … we’re loud and in your face but you know there are better versions out there. This is rock music and it’s good … but as much as it wants to shred, it doesn’t. The songs are ephemeral and sound like what might happen if the Doobie Brothers were on cocaine instead of weed. The tunes are familiar and I know my way around these grooves because I owned a radio for the last 30 years, but it doesn’t leave a memory or any desire to hear more. I mean, how many songs can you name from any other Boston album? Did they even make another one (wait, they made 5 more… wtf?) That said, I look forward to the next time I’ll enjoy one of these songs, probably while waiting for my order at Five Guys or picking up some antifreeze at Auto Zone.
Classic Rock. I liked it, but nothing I would listen more than a few times.
Bom som
it was fine, so far the best one yet but not my cup of tea really
Don’t have a ton to say about this. Great singing, good guitar. Pretty good poppy rock songs.
3 out of 5. Big sounds from a big band, this one was a good time in the first half and started to taper off by the end.
Too bad its named after an annoying city
I could entirely believe that the archetypal American dive bar – pools of neon light forming puddles on wood panelling, the cushioned snap of clacking pool balls ricocheting off tall brown bottles – was summoned into being by this record and this record alone. It’s been almost 50 years since this album was released. As a rock record it stands up wonderfully – Tom Scholz’s smart, hooky songs machined into optimum ear-worming slices; an irresistible combination of driving, crunching guitars and crystalline, sometimes ethereal vocals. As good a rock record as Boston certainly is, it’s its status as a piece of soft power that I find myself most thinking about. The America that embraced Boston in 1976 is a very different America to the one it’ll celebrate its 50th birthday in; and while how the world looks at America hasn’t ever appeared to matter much to the inhabitants of the world’s most powerful nation … will that still be true when it isn’t the world’s most influential force? It’s beyond the scope of Boston to answer that question, of course. They just fuckin’ rock. But there’s something nostalgic about this album that can’t possibly be rooted in any personal history; not, at least, beyond the history I’ve shared with America qua global cultural powerhouse. One last time then to the jukebox then, where we pick “Hitch a ride” before we park our ass back on the bar seats, thinking how it all used to be so much simpler. For better or worse, it feels like it’s coming up to closing time.
NOOOOOOO!!!! (I never really liked Boston. 5.0 because they are THE 5.0 band. Will listen and decide whether or not to modify. Its good music, same score.
Harmless. Sounds to me like good musicianship and dull music for my untrained ear.
I mean it was the 70s rock bangers I was expecting. Bangers indeed, but just not something that really interests me.
All the rock from this era is seriously starting to blend together for me. What I wouldn’t give for some more jazz! I mean this is solid and songs like More Than a Feeling are pretty iconic but yeah I’ve kind of hit a wall I think.
Yep, this was an album.
nice rock
Classic rock anthems, great for road trips and BBQs. A great feel-good record, easily listenable from front to back. Favorite tracks: More than a feeling Peace of mind Hitch a ride
I remember them being better, more interesting. 7/10
Ok, "More than a Feeling" is a great track, but really the rest of the album is fairly good too. I wish their other albums were as good as this one.
Nice one. Not great but not bad.
Nice rock n roll album! Always good to hear where iconic songs come from
Classic dad rock that I overall enjoyed my time with, but would probably never listen to again. Basically Journey, but with more of a punch
This is gonna take a while isn't it. big fan of foreplay/long time intro. oik wasnt as long as i thought, knew it all, not the biggest fan but do have some reall ybig operatic moments taht can't help but draw you in.
I love More Than A Feeling and Peace Of Mind, but as the album went on I realized that their songs are all a little too similar sounding
Things I like about Boston: the city they're named after, that's Shane Powers from Survivor's son's name, the song 'Amanda' :) Things I don't like: 70s rock, the album cover (new info: space-themed album covers aren't enough to count as "space rock") But good news, "arena rock" is pretty different from "blues rock" and "prog rock", and although I suspect it's a less esteemed sort of rock, it's got a lot more of MY esteem. I forgot they did 'More Than a Feeling'. That song is good! Sorry to the haters. I never knew they did 'Peace of Mind'. That song is good too! Huh. These guys were on to something. Wiki says this album was something of a pivot for rock stylings as far as production and melodies. Thank goodness because I feel like I've endured a lot of pre-pivot albums here (and I'm sure there are many more to go)! But hold the phone, 'Foreplay/Long Time' feels kinda pre-pivot. Blergh. Or is this two songs smooshed together? Whatever, they lost me in the second half of the album (many more guitar solos). This is still markedly better than most of the 70s rock albums for me, though, because there are actual hooks. Highlights: 'More Than a Feeling', 'Peace of Mind' Lowlight: 'Foreplay/Long Time' and everything after
a classic, some really good songs but nothing that blew my mind.
I like it but... It's too old school for me
I've known of this band forever and I've played enough Guitar Hero to have "More Than a Feeling" lodged into my brain permanently, but never really looked into them more. Felt underwhelming, considering the amount of hype I've also encountered. The album is a bit here and there, nothing really grabbed me too much. Few of the songs had a nice boogie to them, some of them sounded like british invasion stuff of this era. Mostly it sounded like what I've come to know as AOR. The sort of clean American hard rock with decent production values that feels disposable somehow.
There's that classic Boston guitar sound. I didn't realize how prog-rocky some of these tunes are--Foreplay/Long Time sounds like it could be a YES song.
It will never not blow my mind that an album that sounds this amazing was basically recorded by a dude in his basement. These are songs I heard a lot as a kid and classified them as cheeseball classic rock. Then, fairly recently, I heard More Than a Feeling and was shocked at how much I liked it. All of the songs sound a lot alike, but honestly, they hit on something special with this album, why not keep it going? Standout Track(s): More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Hitch a Ride, All of them?!?!
Good, just a bit…extra
Possibly most cheesy Track One, ever??
waow
3.5
I only knew Boston before this because of their stupid name but first song in I’ve heard that song a million times and it was brilliant. But after that it sorta declined and most songs were just alright. Here and there there were great moments throughout but just mostly stuff I’ve already heard done before. I didn’t love it but I did enjoy this project with it only being like 35 minutes. My favourite song was the hit song More Than A Feeling ofc. Overall I enjoyed this album but it wasn’t amazing so I’m feeling a 7.8/10 3.9/5
Solid.
Already heard this
An album my dad would’ve played in the car on a drive. Not bad but not a great album, I appreciate the dad rock vibes though.
Enjoyed this with a few songs I preffered
Melodisk glam-rock med lidt Hammond. Ret festligt.
I was pretty pumped the first few tracks of this, but by track 5 or so it becomes clear that Boston has a pretty set bag of tricks that they pretty much entirely used on the opener. Not a bad record, just lacks variety. But "More Than a Feeling" is an all-time banger.
pretty good
this (to a millenial) is the exact definition of "rock 'n roll" Also perfect encapsulation of late 70's rock curious about prog power.
It was classic Classic Rock - As a child of the 70's and 80's, I think I've heard each and everyone of these songs a good 100x. Not my cup of tea but brought back a lot of memories
J - 3/5 Best Track - "More Than A Feeling"
‘Hell Yeah’: The Album. Decent but if I have to hear another harmonised guitar solo, I swear…
Kinda cheesy but songs were catchy
Really falls apart after the first track, but what a first track.
Actually… pretty standard guitarrock.
I like this album vibes and the instrumentals. Also a retro vibe to it Fav song - Hitch a Ride 3/5
Boston? Bostoff.
I get why so many people love the album, but it's not really my thing. Well produced and performed (lyrics a little shaky at times), but ultimately just sits there for me.
Meget episk hele vejen igennem.
like a beverage that isn’t cold enough on a hot day. 3.5
coolos mais viellos
Short, sweet and great record. Most of the tracks were catchy. I enjoyed the production and the musical performances. Favourite Track(s): More than a Feeling, Hitch a Ride Least Favourite Track(s): Smokin'
Pretty corny, but has some great songs!
Grand album
1. More Than A Feeling 2. Peace Of Mind 3. Smokin'
I should probably rate this higher. It is a classic with lots of classic songs, but for some reason it's a 3 for me today.
A couple classics
Comes out the gate so strong but nothing quite matches More Than A Feeling
How do I know so many songs on this album? Fine and fun
My feeling, less is more
I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting.
Decent commercial pop
ROCK FM type album. 6/10
nice
Safa
Solid nothing crazy
Knew 1 song More Than a Feeling. Pretty good rock album.
Solid
Acceptable
Favorites: More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind
I quite like More Than a Feeling, but other than that I can get a bit tired of the dramatical singing.
I quite enjoyed it, it contained some music I recognized but was unaware of the actual names of the songs. I'm grateful it has been brought to my attention.
This is nice. Like no one has played this and frowned. That being said its (to me) the quintessential dad rock. Like suburban peaceful rock.
this is like married happy dad rock it feels so clean cut that it’s kind of weird to my ears but i don’t dislike it either it’s too happy for me, 3.5
Huge and a lot of fun.
Thought I was going to hate this. didn't mind it at all. solid pop album. not totally my tastes but very listenable
This sounds like the kind of rock you'd hear at a bar in the 80s or blasting from someone's dad's garage. Sounded nice, but I didn't find it to be anything special.
Average hard rock, some fine songs
2.8 Ok, at least I know now they're a one hit wonder band. And I've completely killed that first track by listening to it 10,000x on our uni playlist that was on repeat for 2 years. The rest is listenable but not much more than that. The solo on the latter half of Hitchin a Ride the only other part that becomes enjoyably
Too grandiose for me.
boston band members writing music while at MIT <<<<< magdalena bay members writing music while at Northeastern i think it’s not totally offensive but it’s very bland to me. arena rock in addition to metal just feels like a lot of noise in a way that feels like it’s probably cathartic to the people playing it but not very texturally interesting to me as a listener.
Sounds a little dated but still some bangers on here.
OK.
(Note: I accidentally clicked 2 stars for RATM by Rage Against the Machine - would have selected around 4). Regarding Boston Boston, First half feels stronger to me than second half. Maybe because I recognize more of these? More than a Feeling is catchy. Was reminded of some catchy Tom Petty sounds. Really seems to want to get to chorus. Foreplay/Long Time I recall as a sample used by Z-Trip. Sometimes listening to them I get the "this one goes to 11 thought." I can't imagine writing the verses. It's weird to me because it feels kind of quiet but the singer is going all out (or something?). Sometimes it feels like a bit much, but maybe sometimes you need that. I took a break from Boston and went back to "Imagining My Man" by Aldous Harding. I liked the contrast. I still wouldn't mind hearing some Boston songs here and there, however,
Boring but listenable
Really a surprisingly good album. 3.5 if we could give half stars, but I can’t go to a 4.
2 iconic songs, very solid rock album
Boston’s peak hits are fun. I enjoy their harmonies, and the prog rock/pre glam/pre hair rock/big ballot 70s rock is well rock. But the schtick gets tiresome by the end of the 37 minutes. It isn’t bad, but pushing the amount of time I care to listen to this genre. But this album is clearly so influential to all the pop rock bands of the early/mid 80s. That bumps it up an extra point. 6.5/10 72/1001
This album started out so strong and then petered out. 3.5 *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap*
probably in the finals of the boomer dad rock tournament against ELO. the platonic ideal of classic rock. drags towards the end.
It's called classic rock for a reason. It's upbeat, fun, got loud guitar riffs. Great for guitar hero
More Than A Feeling is a classic, but not a song I really seek out. That about sums up my feelings about the album as a whole. It is great as background music but not what I'd choose to listen to in the foreground most of the time. Though, some songs are good 'random playlist' bangers. Boston is very much the exemplar of this kind of arena rock and in some ways sounds more 1981 than 1976 to me.
It's most famous song is right at the start. I thought it would make the rest of the listening dull by comparison, but was happy that wasn't the case. It's a fun, easy album. For me the first two songs are still the strongest. I had thought Something about you was the closing song and probably would have preferred that it was.
Great fun, an organ solo! A couple of excellent tracks, didn't have the depth to score higher though. High 3
Seems like standard 70s rock that is played and recorded well
Bostons best known opening track is a real groover. Thankfully it doesn’t drop off. And what is most surprising is just how catchy the other songs are. Good fun Classic Rock. Why have one lead guitar, when you can have two playing the same solo in unison. Strong choruses throughout, clapping, drum solos.
What a beautiful, joyful, open hearted album this is. I’ve only ever heard More Than a Feeling in ironic late night rock bars with people drunkenly overacting the lyrics at each other. Removed from that context it’s much better. It’s just a huge, unselfconscious “punch the air” moment, full of pure serotonin. I’d go as far to say this is one of the least self-conscious records I’ve ever heard. Though I haven’t heard much hard rock, so it might all be like this…! Anyone who is unfamiliar with this band should read their Wikipedia page, or even a short biography. They are more fascinating than most groups. I particularly loved that they pretended to record this record in a proper studio to make the label happy, how mad! They’re just rocking out in a makeshift basement studio having a fantastic time. Once the hits dry up the second half of the LP settles into something less “punch the air” and a more chin strokey, though it’s still a positive vibe. It could even soften you to hard rock!
Hard not to have fun listening to this but a weaker second half and generally not my thing.
This album may define 70's classic rock. Maybe a bit of listener fatigue since I've heard most of these songs countless times.
Some bangers on here, but each track seems to be on an 11.
A great rock album. I personally don’t like the synth-y organ in certain spots but still solid songs!
Guitar and male vocal driven album with a few classic hits but overall not a fan of the vocal style for everyday listening
Meh...
I really love the opening tracks on this album, but afterwards it really drags for me. Even though the album is short, it still felt like it kept going
Pretty nice album, it was enjoyable having it in the background. The first song, "More Than a Feeling", is the only one that I know but it was also the most melodic and enjoyable one as well, even though the rest were alright as well. The solo in "Foreplay / Long Time" was pretty nice as well but all of the songs had that Boston vibe to them.
Really great classic rock 🤘
Peak classic rock. Although listening to the album as a whole, there is definitely some blending of songs that happens.
Enjoyable enough 70s rock, nothing groundbreaking but fun nonetheless 3.5*
I can't knock the talent on this album, but the 1970's rock cheese is hard to get past. I understand know why punk rock came about, a protest to this excessive 1970's rock music.
I was part of the pom-pom dance team in high school and we did a routine to "Don't Look Back" (from Boston's second album). I swear I heard that song 100's of times during the weeks of practices. I get panicky every time I hear the opening to that song. I think that might be why I'm not a fan of this group. This isn't a bad album, I've just never enjoyed Boston or their music. I will say though, these are some catchy songs.
It really makes sense that Boston was popular because this is honestly pretty good. Putting dad rock bias aside, it has great riffs and hooks in pretty much every song. That said, I still can't get totally past that barrier and it still comes across as bland despite it's good guitar work. My favorite is probably both Foreplay and Long Time, but More Than a Feeling is definitely the best this album offers.
Sehr cool, sehr Happy, viel Energie. Stellenweise hab ich an Blind Melon gedacht
I've definitely heard a chunk of this album before. To the Gen Z listener, these familiar songs are less "overplayed" and more "I've heard that in a movie/tv show!" However, that doesn't mean that the record is perfect. It is a highly enjoyable collection of tracks, though- with thunderous guitar melodies and groovy vocal harmonies
Classic Rock FM! Gammelmands rock kan små doser være okay. More Than A Feeling er okay på jukeboxen kl. 02:00 på bodegaen. Som helt album bliver det lidt for meget.
7/10
Correcto
Hard to rate- it is maybe the most classic rock album ever, which means I've heard it a billion times already. They're good at what they do for what they do, though.
Couple of hits and generally easy listening. Like a familiar jacket.
some tunes on this
Good/decent cheesy 70's rock. First 2 songs are the best. 3.5
Journey lite
boomercore
Technically it’s good. But it doesn’t make me feel anything and I end up just tuning the music out idk 3/5
Can appreciate its an influential album but doesn't do much for me
I mean boston
An average dad rock album. "More Than a Feeling" is massively overrated in my opinion. "Foreplay / Long Time" is my favorite song from this album. the intro almost sounds like a prog song. It's really dope. Favorite track: Foreplay / Long Time
It’s aggressively fine!
Felt like two singles and a handful of decent B-sides. All due respect, of course.
pretty generic dad rock. can't really go wrong
A classic 3 stars for some standard classic rock. Do I love it? No, but I’m not bothered by it either.
The guitar solos steal the show on this one. Standout track: "Peace of Mind"
Other than the I believe best known "More than a feeling" none of the songs really caught my attention. A few are a bit too heavy metal for my taste.
Perfectly crafted pop/rock. Maybe just a bit too perfect though.
Good album. Enjoyable.
interesting
I used to LOVE the first two tracks, but overall the album was kinda corny.
I didn't realize how many great Arena Rock songs came from this album alone. Wow, crazy. Anyway, Foreigner is better. So is Styx. honestly so is loverboy and journey better then reo speedwagon though, so thats something
Feels very Bill and Ted! Decent motr soft rock.
Rock isn't my go-to genre but I have to admit, the production was top-notch.
I thought it was going to be cheesy dad music, and.. if you were born in the 80s/90s it absolutely is, but I was pleasantly surprised by Foreplay / Long Time. The bassline is pretty sick and honestly I think this song is ahead of its time! This is a really fun album and I would absolutely listen to it again. It has a more mainstream, palatable, danceable quality that sets it apart from some of the other 70s rock at the time. I could see why it blew up, but maybe didn’t stand the test of time AS much getting lost in the shuffle of the genre
80s in the most 80s way of the 80s.
Arena rock shlock, but maybe the best of its kind. A lot of nostalgia packed into 37 minutes. No filler, but not my kind of 70's rock.
Probably the most American sounding album I’ve ever heard. I was seeing eagles, choppers, highways running through the desert, huge American flags flying in the wind. It’s definitely fun, especially the first three songs. Later on it gets a bit bland and repetitive but there are still some interesting things here and there like the organs or whatever that was on Smokin. A very strong 3/5
Great album first half is better. Boston not my favourite but Foreplay is wicked.
It's weird to hear these songs without the occasional commercial break for a car dealership. Cheerful, bright, no pretense at all, even with the Wakeman/ELP keyboards. Ain't-broke-don't-fix-it hooks. One semi-ballad in the whole set. The weakness (not a knock) of the singer is disarming compared to their arena rock cohort. Add the double tracked backing vocal and it makes everybody want to sing along. I estimate it is over 40 years since I have listened to this straight through. Maybe go again in another 40. WikiTIL: Mostly made by one guy, in his basement, while misleading the record company about recording as band in LA.
Classic. Few songs that have heard many many times. Has a cool vibe and the singer has a great voice. That album cover is sick not gonna lie. Not sure if i like the amount of keyboard stuff. The guitar freaking soars. Alot of these have been pretty middle-aged white guy kind of music. Classic rock and all that. Would be nice to actually get something bit out of the box.
I liked this more than I expected to (and am a little embarrassed about that)
Besides “more than a feeling,” I can never remember which songs on this I like. I had the first three songs liked on Spotify, so there was some pleasant anticipation because I could not remember what those other two were. And then there’s the rest of the album! Don’t get me wrong, I would have bought this too based on those three songs if it were 1976 and streaming didn’t exist. But the rest is a letdown. The real revelation is the Wikipedia page. I assumed Boston was, idk, Journey but better, or Aerosmith but less toxic. But it’s just one genius dude? “Scholz is an MIT-trained engineer who designed and built his own recording studio in an apartment basement in the early 1970s. A fan of rock music throughout his teen years, Scholz began writing songs while earning his master's degree at MIT. The first Boston album was mostly recorded in his basement studio, primarily using devices he invented. After the success of Boston, he founded Scholz Research & Development, Inc. to develop and market his inventions, many under the Rockman brand. Scholz holds several patents related to his work at SR&D over the years. He was described by AllMusic as an "un-rock n' roll" figure who did not enjoy the limelight of being a performer, preferring to concentrate on music, production, and inventing new electronic equipment. In more recent years, he has dedicated much of his money and time to charitable work.” Never again will I talk shit about Boston. Except to say this album is three classic rock songs and not a whole lot else, and the rest of their catalog is totally forgettable. Okay, NOW I won’t talk shit about Boston.
Pop Rock at its best and all by more or less one guy. Easy listening.
This album sounded exactly like I was expecting. That’s neither a good nor a bad thing.
Couple of hits at the start but fairly bland otherwise
The all-time banger "More Than A Feeling" plus "Peace Of Mind" and "Long Time" are standards in classic rock. But for my taste the whole album is a bit too much classic? 3,5
Brave soft rock
Dad rock central 3/5
Weird to listen to this as an album since most of them are played on classic rock radio
"More Than a Feeling" is one of my childhood favorites. I was disappointed to not enjoy other songs on this record as much. As my girlfriend said, it's a great "start of road-trip" album. Fav songs : More than a Feeling & Foreplay/Long Time
Dive bar karaoke music. It's hard to appreciate the music with all the overplayed-ness over the years. The silly (I mean "wicked") album cover makes me chuckle though. AI couldn't have done any better!
Fine.
There is no denying the pop sensibility of this album. It’s full-on rock’n’roll with catchy riffs and hit after hit. I just gave in to the FM circa 1976 juggernaut and enjoyed most of these songs for what they are. Is it too big? Is it too cheesy? Have you heard the hits a million times? All yes, and they are still fun. I can, however, love it and leave it, and therefore it’s a 3.
Fairly fun album. Most of the songs are perfect for karaoke. Nothing amazing, but good. 3/5 Might listen again
la moitié
3/5. This is a good album! Never really listened to Boston much but I like it!
sve u svemu ok, nista spec. ali prijatno
More than a Feeling is a big tune, there were a few catchy songs throughout. 2.5.
More than a feeling is a class track and the album was a pleasant surprise, not generally my thing but touches of the who always welcome, would listen again.
hate boston
this was an album
Not my style but I see the vision

Generic 70s rock. Poza "More Than A Felling" w sumie nic ciekawego.
I thought I will like it more. It was fine.
Didn't do a lot for me
I've always had a certain amount of contempt for Boston (the band and the album). You have a band that produced music that really feels like an attempt by a pretty clean cut rock band to make a "cool" rock album, one that feels like it wants to be edgy at times but has a sound far too clean to feel that way, and lyrics way too sterile to even pretend they're anything but dull-edged. Combine that with the fact that, much like Peter Frampton, Bad Company, and others, this album feels like it has everything that SHOULD make it an all-timer, five star album for me. It's from the 70's, it's a rock band, it's an incredibly popular album, and it's full of guitar solos. But see that's the thing - it's too perfectly tailored. It's too perfect, and it's far too clean. There's no roughness around these edges. The whole isn't greater than the sum of its parts here. There are amazing bright spots, two songs I love in particular in "More Than a Feeling" and "Foreplay/Long Time." But beyond that it mostly feels forgettable to me, everything a little too milquetoast for me to get excited about. It's corny, 70's dad rock and I only have so much capacity for that after a certain point. This isn't bad, but it's far from great in my opinion. I'd love to see what Boston could've done if they'd ever found some edge. Maybe they did, but the world didn't care about them after this album. What a shame. Three stars. Standout Tracks: More Than a Feeling, Foreplay/Long Time, Hitch a Ride
A fine classic. Amazing how many of these tracks are still in constant rotation. Crazy that this album was recorded in a basement studio.
Over produced and decadent
3/5
not bad, nice sound, a lot of classics
Was just meh tbh. I like rock so it was alright to listen to
This album came out in '76 when I was 14. It was EVERYWHERE all through my highschool years. Familiarity definitely breeded contempt. I grew to hate this album, band and the cultureal phenomenon that it spawned. So I can't really judge it fairly. Sure it's a good hard rock album with hooks up the wazoo. But I do not like the vocal stylings that is so much apart of it. The music is pretty good if a little cliched but the vocals is what made me come to hate it. 3 stars
Eh, after 'More Than a Feeling' very little stands out to me. It is by no means a bad album but it fails to leave a lasting impact upon me. I see the track listing to be a major issue here, with the bigger hits coming at the front of the album ,having less for the listener to look forward to. An album is more likely to get relistened to if the back end is as strong as its start. The 'feeling' I get from this album is that the blueprint began with MTAF and then the rest of the album is filling all of that out. In situations such as this I'd employ the phantom menace strategy of ending so well that it leaves you thinking the album is great when in reality there is little happening for most of the runtime. In my opinion 'Peace of Mind' should have been the second to last track as opposed to the second which follows into ' Let Me Take You Home Tonight'. An album such as 'Nevermind' is similar in its incredibly strong opening 3 tracks but it's able to pad the album out better than Boston with more diverse songs such as 'Polly' and ending on the incredible 'Something in the Way'. 6/10 Not got enough of an edge. Top Tracks -> More Than a Feeling -> Peace of Mind -> Foreplay/ Long Time -> Let Me Take You Home Tonight
Front-loaded 70's Rock. Boston came out of the gate swinging with this one.
A bit too dad rocky but overall pretty decent
Solid record, enjoyed this one. Overall a good hard rock album, excellent vocals done with just raw energy, which fit the music and the record well. I however can't say this was the most special piece in terms of lyrics. Overall fun listen nothing to deep, just good. Favorite track: More than a feeling. Overall score: 7.2/10
When this album came out, you could not get away from the exposure of the tracks. Boston was being played 24/7 everywhere. So I didn't have to buy the album. I really wasn't ready to listen to this time either. Having said that, it's a solid rocker of a 70's album with that solid "wall of Boston" sound--track after track after track.
Fun, a little cheesy. Reminds me of playing Guitar Hero back in college and drunken sing-a-longs. Unfortunately I've heard some of these songs too many times and they're hard to take seriously. This is the kind of music someone would put on the jukebox to prove they have no personality.
It was exactly what I expected, and I've no complaints. A solid 70s rock album with a hit or two on it. I did find though that the first half was way stronger than the 2nd, but given this was in the time of vinyl, it definitely makes sense to stack the front half.
Honestly, if this was a biased review, I'd probably give this 4 stars simply because I love the first 3 songs on the album where I've repeatedly listened to this album just so I can hear those songs. As an unbiased review, I think it really only deserves 3 stars because the back half of the album is simply not that great. It's listenable, but pretty meh
Not bad
Sometime ms you’re just in the mood for some generic rock that doesn’t need you to think and puts a bit of a smile on your face. This was one of those days and this fitted perfectly. Never going to be the greatest record ever made but enjoyable for what it is.
I had a pretty low bar of expectation for this one. However, it was proggier than I imagined and had some fun OTT keyboard and guitar noodlings which saved it from being a standard MOR plod rocker. So, prog tendencies rescue the day, a sentence I never thought I’d hear myself utter.
Pretty fun but nothing special
The organ gave it a spacey vibe, kinda like its album cover. But the nothing really stands out, only one I can think of is "More Than a Feeling".
Few absolute great songs and good fun record, but got a bit bored by the end
A couple of brilliant moments. Great fun, can’t see myself listening more though.
This was pretty nice. Nothing spectacular, but certainly an enjoyable half an hour. Simpsons: Niche, but the illustration of this album cover can be seen in a scene of the episode "Homerpalooza."
Strong start with 'More than a feeling'. The rest is fine.
theres like a million different albums just like this. its fine though, never returning to this.
- sehr cooles, kurzweiliges Album muss ich sagen - More Than A Feeling kannte ich bereits (unter anderem durch Guardians of the Galaxy)
Cheesy but still kind of fun. Felt like the blueprint for a lot of 80s rock.
Not bad but not the best album I’ve ever heard. Sounds kinda generic.
Classic rock, great guitar and cool harmonies.
Enjoyed this a little more than expected, found my head bobbing along at times. Defy anyone to not sing along with the More Than a Feeling chorus when more than two beers deep...
One great song, the rest ok
It wasn't bad, but there was nothing memorable about it for me. Even within the album, the songs were a bit too similar, and I think a lot of other bands are doing the same thing basically. It lacked a unique twist for me, honestly.
I didn't get much out of this. All of the songs and instrumentation sound fine but none of it really stays with me. Maybe it suffers from being too classic, but this sounds like the rock played by a movie rock band. I was somewhat let down. It is super polished and high quality for a debut so I give them credit there.
Rick power ballads. Familiar with most songs. Easy to listen to while driving in the car.
This is classic rock, nothing else. Do I need more of it? More, More, More ... my gut feeling tells me, definitely not. "More Than a Feeling" is on the rock radio over and over again. That doesn't make it any better for me, but it's actually a great song. The rest of the album doesn't mean much to me. A good debut, in any case. Do I own the album? No. Will I buy it? No. Stars? Yes. 2-3, I think.
Power rock at it's finest. Boston is not really my style, but I respect them. Three stars feels a little generous, but their spaceship looks cool.
Classic classic rock. I wouldn't change the station if it came on the radio but I don’t see pulling it off the shelf either. Comfy sweater, out of fashion.
Reminds me listening to am radio when I first got my license and didn’t have a tape deck in my dodge shadow. Warm sound and great harmonies. Won’t revisit but can appreciate. It has to be a 3, if only for the mere fact that Kurt Cobain writes Smells Like Teen Spirit when playing around with More Than a Feeling.
hahaha ok sehr offesichtlich mit abstand ihres berüehmtiste album ööh also vlt mussis nomal.lose aber nach de zahle hani denkt, more than a feeling het meh anthem-charakter...isch voll ok aber bö foreplay na cool als intro, vlt bini momentan au z müed? rock'n'roll bsnd het sehr es cools rocknroll riff hahahah smokin gad chli ih die glich richtig hä ok hitch a ride kenni vo iwo hanis gfühl oder doch nöd hahahaha something sbout you wieder mega rock let me take you home tonight coole refrain füres letschts lied ohh d bridge isch sehr cool hahaha ok sehr coole schluss! lose more than a feeling nomal will A aso de ufbau zum refrain mit dem mega riff isch sehr cool ok ja cheggs jz scho besser aber finds album ah sich leider trz nüt krasses mengisch hets öppis warms ah sich und s isch au recht abwechsligrich für es 8-lieder-album...jo 3
Pretty fun classic rock album. I liked it more than I expected to.
Nice guitars. But it's not really my cup of tea.
“More than a Feeling” is an absolute banger, but the rest just feels like your basic classic rock radio fodder.
One of my favs of that generation
Het album begint met het bekende nummer "More Than a Feeling", maar ook de andere nummers zijn lekker up-tempo en vrolijk. Ik vind het een leuk album. ***
Fantastic start 😜, good organs, some nice songs but overall not 100% my taste!
Classic album that outside of "more than a feeling" is a bit meh
Was only familiar with More Than a Feeling, which I’ve never loved but it’s a good song for sure. I was more into this album than I thought I would be, Smokin’ and the intro to Foreplay are actually pretty great. I don’t see myself returning to this, it’s prog but hair metal prog which is kinda fun but I don’t need it in my life as a constant. 3 stars
I've definitely listened to this album before. Boston's never been my fave dad-rock band, but they are definitely one of the better ones. This is a very cohesive album, the band has a distinct sound but the songs do all sound the same after awhile.
Some good tracks but also some fairly generic 70s soft rock
Very cleanly produced and performed, but all the songs sound way too similar. The last song is the only one that ramps up the tempo past the unexciting mid tempo used on the rest of the album.
Pretty sick album, lots of singles and bangers on this thing
the average rating for this was a lot higher than I expected. good ol 70's rock, not much to say
Few Anthems, Need to continue feeling out the rest.
The first number is a banger after that it does not hit the same
Encountering Boston's eponymous debut album is to encounter one of the many peaks of album-oriented radio rock that feels ubiquitous yet alien at the same time. For what was familiar to the ear may soon give way to something else that is surprising to the uninitiated, even if these sounds also become interwoven with the blaring tape decks out of car speakers. Overall, Boston (the band) found a niche on their first outing and that is not a small feat in and of itself. Favorites: More Than a Feeling, Piece of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Hitch a Ride, Let Me Take You Home Tonight.
Am ahfang vom Album bini sehr überzügt gsi und da hets fast 4 bostener*inne ide finger küzlet, aber je tüüfer ich im Album gsi bin desto meh hani gmerkt dasi so musig häppliwiis toll find, es ganzes Album im gliiche wilde Stil isch mer scho fast chli zviel gsi.
Zurich by zurich Erstensmal es bravo a all die band wo ihres album glich nenned wie de band name.
It’s fine I guess
The perfect soundtrack for Hollywood action/fantasy movies
7/10
Nothing remarkable
This is my first 1001 review, Boston by Boston didn't do much for me but it sure is a ride! I wouldn't listen again.
Competent middle of the road dad rock which does absolutely nothing for me. Except More Than A Feeling which is a banger obviously
Classic rock.
This fine. Never been a huge Boston fan, but it is good to revisit from time to time.
dad rock
Songs der Playlist hinzugefügt: More than a feeling
Well produced classic rock, just a little bit too classic rock for me. Favourite tracks: More Than a Feeling, Foreplay / Long Time.
I was very excited to see this album drop on the list. Of course I know More Than A Feeling! Off to a banging start then I was left a little disappointed. It promises so much and don’t get me wrong it’s by no means bad I just expected a little more.
Quintessential 70s hard, proggy rock with all of the good and bad things that come with that.
ok, ish. familiar first track, but rest of them are a little slow for me
Quintessential classic 70’s dad rock. It’s an excellent example of its type, but for me it’s just….fine. It’s pleasant enough, but I generally demand a bit more from my music.
I’m going there next month I’m going there next month
I wanted to not like this but it's a classic for a reason. I like the vocals so much. I likely won't come back to it but I enjoyed it beginning to end. Solid dadrock. I get why it's on the radio all the fucking time.
It was fine.
More than I was feeling
'More than a feeling' is the only track with a memorable melody; everything else bleeds together into one, long song. It wasn't a bad listen but not interesting enough to come back to. 3 stars
More than a feeling was great as expected. The rest kinda meh but not terrible
Felt very classic rock. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. Enjoyable, but not particularly awe-inspiring.
Not as bad as I thought. "More Than a Feeling" is still cheesy though. My favourite songs are "Peace of Mind" and Let Me Take You Home Tonight". I can now see why people like this album so much. Until today, I didn't know that the UFOs on the cover were guitar shaped. 3 stars for "Self Titled".
Classic 70s American rock. Great driving music.
Enjoyable classic rock album, it surpassed my expectations, though no memorable songs apart from the massively-known singles.
Ei hassumpia ralleja. Kuunnella voisi uudelleen.
More Than A Feeling is a wonderful track. This album starts with one of the most nostalgic songs ever, but the rest is more classic rock that does not much for me actually. Important album though!
All really middle of the road songs, with some exceptions which became the hits ;-) Nice to listen to, but not for everyday for me
6.5/10
Enjoyable listen
Blander than a white bitch pallette - one song towards the end the guitar fucked but ya haha das it
This feels like a quintessential dad rock album. We’ve all heard More Than a Feeling endlessly via radio, jukebox plays, and karaoke renditions. Listening to some of the later tracks on the album felt like catching a glimpse of a dad (pre-fatherhood) living it up. But much like some of those rigid masculine mores of the late 70s and 80s, the album felt limiting and one-note despite glimpses of some depth and exploration. Still a good album, but I’ll probably stick to the hits with this one. Stand out track(s): More Then a Feeling and Foreplay/Long Time
