Reviews (page 2 of 12)

Did B.B. ever try his hand at stand-up comedy? Made me shimmy my shoulders with the music and shake my shoulders with the jokes. The audience is an additional instrument within the music, showing how to truly make a great live album. They shout, they laugh, and they participate in the music as much as a back-up singer would. Personal favorite: "Worry, Worry" for B.B.'s "A wife, woman, or whatever you want to call her, she don't do like you think she should, don't go' upside her head. That don't do but one thing, that make her look smarter, and she won't let you catch her the next time."

Gonna name my first born son Lucille.

Wow. I felt like I was there. This might be my new favourite blues album and the best answer for anyone asking why B. B. King is considered one of the greats.

Awesome

A virtuoso with the electric guitar. Unmistakable craft. Fantastic interplay with the audience. Sweet Little Angel: Yeah, I think that's what he's talking about. How Blue Can You Get?: Gen Xers will hear this for the first time and recall this being sampled. 36 in the bust, 28 in the waist, 44 in the hips.

Nice 🎸

Oooohh, baby I've got the blues. Thank God for Mr. B.B. Otherwise I might never come out of it. Probably just about as good as the blues get. Fantastic showmanship, playing and singing. No notes.

That is a man who knows how to make it happen.

An exhibition of a master of his craft. There may be little variation in the foundations of the songs but the tightness of the band and the atmosphere lift it all.

Live blues album- hell yeah!!

BB with a horns section and full band—-get the hell out of here my word!!! Every single second of this set is perfection!

This guy carries an energy that shows that he really loves what he does. It's infectious and makes me want to dance around the room listening to this. He's super cool, his music is super cool and this album is just a fun listen overall

Great introduction to a "new" genre for me. You can hear how B.B King and his peers have contributed to the evolution of music. It may not be my favourite to listen to, but it is undeniably influential. I will absolutely listen again

What a voice, what a vibe and what a hard time for someone like B.B King

I had always thought that, as great as B.B. King is, the truest standards of blues music were Robert Johnson & Howlin' Wolf - that those two touch on the limits of art while King & Muddy Waters were brilliant but containable. I still feel that way about Waters, tho I recognize his genius, but after taking in Live At The Regal, I'm happy to add B.B. to that list of preternatural blues talents. Yes, his guitar playing is superbly nuanced & human, yet what I am most moved by is his singing, especially on 'Worry, Worry.' I don't think of him as a truth-teller, more like a truth-shaker, someone that agitates your foundations w/ a voice that's as sturdy as it is malleable. Maybe it's the live thing, as it is for Sam Cooke at the Harlem Square Club, that brings it out.

simplemente BB king

A revelation. Putting aside the musicianship for a moment—which is across the board excellent here, both from King and his band—despite the songs lyrically being about the worries and troubles so typical of the blues, there is so much joy in BB King’s delivery on this album. There’s no woeful self-pity here, it’s as if King has found freedom and liberation in the dejection. It’s an excellent listen, and five stars for me because this album is I think going to shape how I listen to the blues.

This is an awesome album… BB King is one of the greats. Live at Cook County is another great live album by him!!!

I've seen BB King a couple of times in the late 90's early 00's so his voice in this throws me off. He's still one of the best bluesmen to walk the planet. The first track was wild as it reminded me of a James Brown show more than a BB show. Gotta remember these aren't the old men I am used to. I've listened to it twice. Great album, the recording is actually great so you don't get a garbage quality album. BB King is one of the greats, the man has the energy and works the crowd. If you are expecting an old blues player this isn't it. This is King in his prime and it shows. The lyrics are blues but with the band it's something else. Great album, go listen to more blues, Buddy Guy still tours, Kingfish, Eric Gales, and Marcus King are out there. Go see them.

Oh hell yes

I'll be listening to this again and again and again. Superb musicians and a great live recording. KING indeed.

This was a pleasant surprise. Probably the first BB King album I've listened to and while Blues isn't typically my genre of choice there is no denying the skill and passion that went into every vocal and guitar note. No way to rate this one other than a 5.

12 bar blues baby! Fun vibes very nice very nice

Hands down the greatest blues guitarist.

The way that audience sounded like the grinding, sweaty extras in the juke joint scene from 'Sinners'. This was fun!

Phenomenal recording.

10/10… jazzy blues / soul / *1965 👂

He's good, isn't he?

will definitely be listening to this again, i usually dislike live albums but this was defo worth a live version!!

This has to be up there as one of the best live albums of all time. This is my most surprising 5 given out so far. I love some blues here and there but I don’t find myself really getting into it that much but this feels like the gold standard. The can feel the energy of the recording in an incredible way.

One of the best live records ever.

Rating: 4.9/5 Short Review: A live album that feels completely alive, capturing blues at its most expressive and immediate. B.B. King’s guitar and voice carry raw emotion with total control and charisma. Favorite Track: How Blue Can You Get. The call-and-response with the audience and B.B.’s phrasing make it feel intimate and powerful at the same time.

Very good

Great blues album all around

How do young purple not appreciate BB King? You have to move and feel it in your soul. Every time. Every song.

I’d probably rate this 4.5 but rounding up because it’s King and this is from 1965.

100% the best thing to happen to my music taste in the past couple of years is falling in love with the blues. its a very Helpful thing for one...really reinvigorates my excitement for Most Western Popular Music by some kind of proxy. but man as much as i was praising little richard yesterday, i'll take the blues over rock and roll anyday at this point. b.b. king is most notable as a real virtuoso guitar player, and he's got a band here that really keeps up with him, including when its someone else's turn to solo. but equally important is his voice, which is so pristine and well-enunciated in a way that makes it so you dont miss a word, but he can still yell and growl and croon without breaking that composure. he wasn't the most Wild performer but he really illustrates how much room the blues gives both the performer and the listener...so much thought and effort in every inflection, and enough time for all of it to actually be Processed and have real gravity. few other genres move at exactly my speed with exactly my priorities these days. and what a great show of all of it!

Goddamn. When you want to a show an alien what music is to humans, show them this. They'll get it. Don't think anyone could compare to King's combination of soulful, bombastic, power vocals, and clean, stank face making perfect tone guitar playing

Nice live version of bb and band!

Legendary. Pure Blues bubbling away in a hot cauldron poured ontop of you washing away any bad music taste you’ve ever had, first tightly grasping your heart and purifying you from the inside out.

Absolute classic. Wonderful guitar work, powerful vocals, electric backing band, AND marriage advice? What more could you want

I'm going to be honest. I hate Live albums and never give higher than a 2 for them... But this is B.B. King. The King of Blues and a legend... The fact his only album on this dumb list is a live album is bullshit and as much as I hate and despise live albums. I cant disrespect the man with a low rating.

Loved it. A pure joy. Bit concerning that the song that came on next was about a 16 year old not doing what he wanted... but that wasn't on this album.

Lots of talent and passion.

"..I gave you seeeeven children... AND NOW YOU WANNA GIVE THEM BACK..." One of my go-to karaoke tracks once I want to belt out a song after five beers. Not the same shouting from the crowd as for the King, but Im imagining it. Overall, this is one among the albums that got me into blues.

There is no way not to understand this as classic.

Not every song was a hit (many were!) but somehow I have a desire to listen to this album in entirely repeatedly.

I didn't expect to give a 5 to any blues albums just because I don't have a good ear for it, but I really enjoyed this particular one.

Loved this album

B.B King - "Live At The Regal" (1965) King.

Ooft. The King of Blues indeed.

BB is the best!

Normally don't like live music recordings but this was different. It felt real and the cheers were not distracting.

If you ever find yourself wondering how good can it get, you can put on this album and find out. Unless you don't get it, in which case you ain't got it.

Ain't a damn thing wrong with this album and a whole lot that's right. If you love the blues, you have it, have heard it or need to hear it immediately! If you ain't got no love for the blues, honey child you need to go and do some living! Lord almighty!

This is one hell.of an album. I can't believe I had never listened before. One of if not the best live albums I have ever listened to. As someone whose idea of the blues has been more or less perverted by the kind of people who are now vanguards of the music (fat white guys who love expensive guitars) it is great to hear it performed so freely and without a bunch of artifice. This band may have always sounded great but it boggles the mind to think of them sounding any better than they did the night this was recorded. This album is way at the top of my list and I am thankful for this generator for exposing me to something so fantastic.

Live at the Regal (1965) is a live album by blues legend B.B. King recorded on 21 November 1964 at the Regal Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. This is another album that I wasn’t familiar with. I thought I had quite broad musical taste but I’m already discovering that I tend to stick to what I know and like. In fact when I checked last.fm I didn’t have any listening stats for B.B. King at all. So this album turned out to be a complete revelation. Having given it my customary three listens, I’ve promptly given it another three as it’s just so good! This is definitely going on my vinyl wish list! I listened to Dire Straits earlier in the week, and although it was better than I assumed it would be, Live at the Regal brings everything I didn’t like about that album into focus. Where Dire Straits is clean, Live at the Regal is dirty and 100% better for it. King (and his band) give a performance full of life and emotion. It’s hard to critique the songs on an individual level as they are all good and fairly similar in style. The stand out track is ‘Help the Poor’ . From the rating of the individual songs this should be a four star album, but the energy of the live performance bumps it up to a five. Side A: Every Day I Have the Blues - 4/5; Sweet Little Angel - 4/5; It’s My Own Fault - 4/5; How Blue Can You Get - 4/5 Please Love Me - 4/5 Side B: You Upset Me Baby - 4/5; Worry, Worry - 4/5; Woke Up This Mornin' - 4/5; You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now - 4/5 Help the Poor - 5/5

This is what commanding a room sounds like. B.B. King isn’t just performing here—he’s leading a conversation. The way he plays off the crowd, teases lines, then answers himself with Lucille is masterful. One guitar phrase carries more emotion than most players manage in an entire solo. The band is on fire. The rhythm section never lets up, the horns punch without overwhelming, and the whole thing flows like a single, continuous performance rather than a collection of tracks. They chain together song after song with total confidence, shifting keys and moods effortlessly. It feels alive. This is the kind of live album that makes you wish you’d been in the room. Not flashy. Not overproduced. Just pure musicianship, chemistry, and control. An easy five.

How blue can I get? No bluer than the King… 5 very blue stars

I understand the glaze. This was fire

Dug it.

B B King enthusiast for a long time. Influenced some of the most prolific guitarists of the 60's/70's, hell everyone that picked up a guitar after him. Shreds.

One of the greatest live/ blues albums of all time

Loved this so much. Took me right to Memphis.

All hail the king! Becoming a household name is isn't an easy thing to do, but it's even more astonishing of a feat when you manage to become the single most influential name in your genre. What I really enjoy about this live album is the audience participation. Sure, the music is great, but what really amps up the listener is having a highly engaged crowd.

Absolutely loved this. Have heard BB King songs before but never listened to a whole album. Loved everything about it and have added the cd to my wish list.

I LOVE THE BLUUUEEESSSSS! this album made me miss Tanner

phenomenal

He’s so good- the voice, the soul.

>>>> the Beatles

The live album pushed it over the top. You can feel the energy of the music and the crowd's in return. I could picture being in the room. This album is likely the most amount of time I have spent listening to blues, and the most I have listened with scrutiny. It set the bar high.

I have not historically been a live album lover but god this is ELECTRIC. The energy that was in that room in 1964 is preserved eternally and it is undeniable. The first track of Every Day I Have the Blues is transformed from its lyrics of heartache to a prayer and a promise. Every day I’ve got this genre of music that transcends time and space and circumstance. It’s a lifeline and you feel the weighty importance of a Black man getting to sing in a room full of people.

So good I listened twice

Real blues!

Fantastic

This was a great blues album. I loved the live energy and the brass band. BB King really was a master at his craft.

Some people say that this is the one of the greatest Blues albums ever recorded and I heartily agree. I've always loved the Blues and B.B. King is one of its masters. If you're not tapping your feet while listening to this album then you have no soul. Loved this album; my favourite tracks were "Sweet Little Angel" and "Please Love Me". I'd rate it 6 out of 5 if I could.

Classic blues tunes, for sure. Love the storytelling / call and response-type stuff that helps the listener feel like they were actually there.

Man, I feel like I’m getting spoiled. Live B.B. King is an obvious 5 star. Virtuosity, energy, fun. I love live music, I love the crowd noise, and B. B. really made Lucille talk. If anyone actually reads this, I encourage you to also check out Joe Williams and Count Basie rip every day I have the blues. That whole album is sublime, too.

B.B King is what I aspire to be in my guitar playing. I'm surprised he was more popular than Freddie King in my opinion he was waaaay better of a player. Still BB desires a 5 from me.

only the king can defy my live album rule.

B.B. King est dans mon top 5 des bluesmen. John Lee Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf et B.B. King.

The OAD blessings continue today with B.B. King Live at the Regal. B.B. King can conjure intensity while making it seem effortless. It's as if the pressure and passion of the blues are channeled through him rather than being created by him. This record is uncanny in that way. It sounds both exciting and energetic and laid back at the same time. I'm not sure how to explain my reaction to it, but I am in awe. Both B.B. King and his band are absolutely swinging on Live at the Regal. I had never heard this performance before, but I had read that many consider it to be the best live blues recording ever. I'm not familiar enough with the blues canon to comment on that, but I can't imagine that this style of blues could get much better than what's captured here. It's impossible to talk about this date without mentioning the crowd. They go absolutely apeshit for the performance, and the recording captures their reactions well. I can't say that I understand why this music generated such excitement, but they scream and shout like nothing I've ever heard. The only comparison I can make is to teeny-bopper reactions to Elvis or the Beatles, but there's something much more mature here, and it's kind of scary. I like it. This record is somehow a mellow fire that burns hotter than a blaze. Five stars.

Great live record.

This guy is so damn cool.

10/10 The musicianship is fantastic, but the pure joy comes from the audience cheering and hollering after EVERY line

Love everything about this

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️the guitar is dreamy

First of all, I think it's a crime that the king of blues has only one record on this list and Elvis Costello has 6. BB King is an amazing artist. His guitar playing and vocals are probably the most recognizable from all of the blues artists. The fact that he only has one album here is concerning. Second of all, even though I don't usually like live albums, when it comes to BB King I absolutely agree. He is an artist that has to be experienced in a live setting. Everything just flows efortlessly on this album.

Awesome album, great musician

I could listen to this all day. Love his playing and the drummer is on it. The live aspect of this album made it even more special

smooth as butter

King has such an incredible voice and stage presence. Worry, Worry is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The only song I didn’t care for was You Upset Me Baby, but even then, his vocals alone make up for the parts of the song I dislike. At times, I would like to be able to hear his guitar over the band. The vocals are extremely raw and gritty, which is why I love them. The guitar is incredible. Everything about this album is extremely immersive. I didn’t get bored once. Overall, you can’t get much better than him. This is legendary.

Unbelievable. Going to get really into blues now.

Pretty solid live album. Sounds like two nights put together but idk. Real solid blues.

Wow! What a listen that was. I've always had an interest in blues and this album came at a perfect time. Enjoyed every single minute of it, B.B. King killed it with this performance and the crowd in the back makes the atmosphere even better. I would definitely be listening to more B.B. King!

Fantastic set, although probably 2nd to San Quentin. Some of the lyrics haven't aged well, but still great in retrospect

The onli wan B.B.

Note : 5/5

Love me some blues! The King for a reason. Love a live recording too

Help the poooor.. won't you help pooor mee. I love BB king and I love soul and swing. This is an easy 5 and I've been listening to it front and back for atleast 2 hours now.

An excellent live set from one of the finest bluesmen to ever do it

Live jazz album!!!!!!

Have this on vinyl. Long live BB!

oh we got live albums in here heeelllll yeah felt like i was watching a movie listening to this honestly, the dialogue between songs, the seamless transitions, the crowd being excited and clear throughout. the show is orchestrated so smoothly thanks to King's ability to woo the crowd then effortlessly go back to singing, which in and of itself is brilliantly soulful. something about the soundscapes he and his band creates here combined with the how casually he talks to the audience between tracks makes me feel warm and comforted, this is why live albums feel so intimate highlights: sweet little angel, it's my own fault, how blue can you get likely my first 5

So good, this is really enjoyable stuff. After Johnny Cash, this is right up there but higher standard of music underpinning the lyrics. Even better singing than Cash.

He is absolutely the King of the Blues! Great album, was able to listen to it twice yesterday. So good!!!

W album, fuck with B.B. King heavy. 4.5/5

I can listen to this all day. What a phenomenal album that makes you feel like you were there. So much talent on display from all the musicians.

It's live B.B. King... what's not to love? This is great!

A 60 year old album that has been at the front of the line for blues since it was first recorded.

This was an album I got back when I was a collector, having read that it was the quintessential blues record. I recall loving listening to it, mainly due to the crowd noise making it feel like you were there at the show. Today's listen again confirmed that feeling. BB and the band play their asses off, and this is such an enjoyable experience to listen to. It would be even cooler to have been there, but this album really works to give you that sense. While I'm not a huge fan of the blues, and an album worth is sometimes a bit too much, I could listen to this over and over.

I'd do unholy things to be in the room when this was recorded, the women sound feral and B.B. is absolute top shelf

This is truly outstanding. I love BB’s languid blues style, and the way he can make his guitar sing. The influence of T Bone Walker is clear to see in BB’s style of almost jazz noodling, and there isn’t a blues player alive that isn’t either directly or indirectly by this guy. One of the all time great live albums.

Hard to believe we used to make music this good without resorting to computer manipulation- smooth baby, real smooth, ya dig?

Fantastic album which gets down to the pure blues that Mr. King is known for. It is a 5-star, must listen to at least a dozen times (more) for anyone who wants to hear pure musical talent.

Definitely one I want in my collection.

B.B. King was in his eighties when I saw him live. He played from a couch (and was wearing a muumuu). His fingers weren't quite as dexterous as they were in his prime, but his voice still had power and emotion, and he was very funny when he talked to the audience, so it was a good time. This album is an absolute delight. This was a concert for people to get out of their seat and dance, so every song is a stomper. Both B.B.'s singing and guitar playing are emotive and perfectly attuned to the subject matter of the song, and even his spoken word intros and interludes are engaging. The enthusiastic crowd adds to the whole experience.

SENSACIONAL! QoA Adonis New.

Why is it the live albums that should be 2 hours long are only 30 minutes, but live albums that should have been 30 minutes long are 2 hours? BB, the band, the crowd, this whole album, simply brilliant. If you like the Blues you will love this. Even if you don't like the Blues, but you do appreciate good live music, you will love this.

Legendary performance

# Album Name: Live at the regal # Artist: BB king # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: fucking great blues album. Transfers you to being in the bar and enjoying this shit live. I felt like i was there. The rum probably helped. # Top Tunes: # Would I listen to it again? yes

B.B. King is amazing and does so much with so few notes. I had a chance to see him years ago and I didn't take it, I've always regretted it.

Sometimes I can't figure out what people don't like about an album, so I ask ChatGPT, which summarizes that type of stuff nicely. It's too polished? It's a live performance! That's incredible that a live performance of the blues can sound "polished". Other comments on this site said it all sounds the same. Are we listening to the same album? This album is a masterpiece. I don't even know any of these songs, but I want to. I feel like I'm transported to a smoky club in Chicago. It captures this world perfectly.

No notes.

Holy shit, fabulous live recording - really captures the power of the blues channeled through B.B.

I mean it’s a live album by B.B. fucking King. Some shits just a lay up

Nice live album of the king

Good album, not a good listen when you are lonely

For me, B.B. King is actually the king of the blues and this record shows why. Lucille (that's his guitar's name) and his voice were so unique, they could fill just any venue and make the crowd cheer with joy. This is remarkable, as blues is said to "not make you feel better but make others feel worse". If you like the blues, you'll love "Live at the Regal". If you don't, you won't get it.

Charismatic

It's funny when, after BB says "I'd like to tell you a little story now...", one guy in the crowd flatly shouts "ok". 5 stars.

So fun.

The blues

Qué espectáculo de álbum 💿 ❤️‍🔥

I was unsure about this but damn I never should have doubted the king! What a show!!

There is a joy in this album that I love. It is a brilliant live performance. King shines but the band is tight and goes with him as he plays.

Dad- 9.5 Mom- 9.5 Mike- NA Lori- 8,5 Michael- 9 Miles- NA Cole- NA Avg-9.13

this album…. a gate into the wonderful world of bb king

It's clear why he's a legend

A true blues master at work. Incredible band, incredible guitarist, incredible voice. Nothing more to be said. 5/5, an album that shouldn't end so quickly

Groovy, jammy, bluesy and that voice is incredible. One of the best live albums of the 60s.

9/10 B.B. King has always been a bit of a blind spot for me. I did have a period when I listened to a lot of blues, but tended to focus on more of the early blues singers like Robert Johnson and Blind Lemon Jefferson and King just kind of passed me by. But this is a really fantastic live album. I often find that live albums can be a bit iffy, failing to capture the real feeling of interaction between the artist and the crowd, but here, the balance is pretty much perfect. You can get a real grasp of King’s charisma and he has the crowd eating out of his hand throughout, and that live energy is really successfully captured on the record. The playing across the board is so good, and they thread that line between being so in sync with one another while having that slightly loose swagger that lends a great deal of soul and coolness to the delivery. King’s vocal ranges from low and subtle to gritty and fierce, which adds another level of dynamic to the music, and when he lets loose on his guitar, he pours soul and vibe from his fingers. It’s rarely exceptionally complex, but it’s all about the emotion that he pulls out with the notes. Of course, it’s a blues record, so the compositions are all of a very similar style, though there is a reasonable blend of pace across the album, but there’s not likely to be much that jumps out as groundbreaking. But that’s not what you listen to a blues record for really. It’s all about feel, and this album has it in spades. Everyday I Have The Blues - The way the rhythm section pulls this forward is fantastic, seemingly playing just ahead of the beat early doors to get things shifting. His voice is just brilliant, as is his guitar playing. That’s to be expected, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. Quality playing all round. Sweet Little Angel - And now things slow down. Such cool swagger about this., and he’s got the crowd eating out of his hand. The growl of his voice is just excellent. There’s nothing too complicated about the composition, but it’s all about the feel here, and there’s a great guitar solo. It’s My Own Fault - And we just smoothly slide into another track. More brilliant singing, more cool swagger, more charismatic crowd work. There’s some nice jazzy piano playing here in particular. So much vibe. How Blue Can You Get? - The band does some great work on this one. Despite B.B. telling me to, my focus is nearly always music first and some of the interplay between the piano and horns in particular is great. Quality drumming too, and some more of that fiery grit to his voice. Lovely stuff. Please Love Me - Let’s pick up the pace! There’s so much energy and groove to this, it’s impossible not to tap ones feet while listening. There’s quality guitar soloing as usual and the band play with such great expression. They’re the perfect balance of tight and loose to make it sound like so much fun. You Upset Me Baby - There’s a really weird bit at the beginning of this track, where they start playing something, it sharply cuts out and then something else starts playing. Weird. Anyway, again, they’ve got so much cool swagger about their playing here. King really allows plenty of time for the musicianship to take centre stage, which also gives his vocal great impact when it does come in. It’s all just so much fun. Worry, Worry - This is a masterclass in live blues delivery. Quality lead guitar work, a fiery and emotive vocal delivery, along with a bit of crowd banter, all backed by a band that knows when to strut along and when to flex. Woke Up This Mornin’ - This is pretty frenetic, but it’s a nice switch up in pace and the slower delivery of the vocal offsets it nicely. And then we drop into a great swinging groove. So much soul. You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now - Similarly to Worry, Worry, this gives us a slow build up with some fantastic lazy guitar solo work and then the vocal kicks in with some gorgeous piano lines just tinkling along behind it. Love the switch back and forth between vocal and guitar on this one. Help The Poor - There’s a bit more of a latin twist to the rhythm on this track. It dances around so well in more of a laid back, smooth way. There are some great little vocal flourishes here and there that jump out from the generally subtle delivery and really work to add some spice and fire. It’s not the most exciting of tracks, but it’s only short and closes the album nicely.

Very good

I guess there's a different approach to the blues that I didn't know about. Muddy Waters at Newport presented the blues in a more straightforward fashion that emphasized rhythm and the harmonica. BB King, on the other hand, injects a bit more soul into the medium. His guitar is more front and center, powering through each number with passion. His backing band add on to a sum of brilliance. Finally, add on how he talks to the audience to serve as a guide to the music and I'm convinced that King is one of the greatest showmen to ever do it. A stellar live recording; my kind of blues (8/10, 5/5 on this scale)

Awesome blues album - feel like I could throw this on anytime

Classic. I don't really listen to blues but BB King is a legend. Solid album

Love for the blues 💙

Absolute insane album. This dude managed to story tell his songs in a order they sound like they were writen in a chronological order of events yet songs were writen in different years for diferent albums. Mindblowing and a killer album

Big band fun - very uplifting

Really great blues album.

There is something amazing about Blues performers, their performance as a unit while free flowing. It’s just amazing.

One of the greatest live albums ever made. One of the greatest blues albums ever made. An essential album for anyone even remotely interested in the blues.

mega mitriissend. mer het fasch s gfühl, selber im publikum luve debi z si!

I was already familiar with this album. It's a really great showcase for B.B. King's immense talent on guitar and showmanship. He's upbeat, funny, and a great storyteller in addition to killing it on the guitar. The 10 tracks on here are all solid. The only thing I could say is I wish it was longer! One of the best live albums of all time.

Banger, top notch musicians

A great album

Amazeballs

On today's album for 1001 albums before I die, I rolled this B.B. King live project from 1965. I have heard of B.B. King before but never checked out any of his music, and god damn does this album make me want to do that. It isn't often that the music sounds this good live that you wouldn't think there are studio versions because of how definitive this whole album sounds. I also have to say for this being a live project the audience really seemed so scripted with just how perfect they sounded all throughout the 35 minute runtime. Each song feels so perfect to show of B.B. King's vocals and killer guitar playing that both blend so well together on this very bluesy and soulful performance. It is live projects like Live at the Regal that really help sell my point that more people need to hear live albums, they can truly be the best thing an artist has yet to offer but since it is such a niche selection usually people just skip over it all without any question. If you want to hear one of the definitive live releases of the 60s, totally check this project out because it is nothing short of incredible.

I had no idea the blues could be so joyful. This is a lot of fun.

Not a fan of live albums, but this one is actually engaging. The music and the performance are both beautiful. 9/10

Usually not a big fan of live albums but this one is phenomenal

It does not get any better than the King of the Blues. Every note hits perfection on this captivating live album.

I would give 10 stars if I could. No one can compare to B.B. King and his guitar Lucille. I remember seeing him in concert when I was a teenager. Album brings back memories.

BB is legendary! His playing is sublime. He could really make Lucille sing! This live recording amazingly captures artist and audience totally together. I love the shouted "Ya" and "Yes" responses from the audience. Liked Songs Added: Everyday I Have The Blues Sweet Little Angel Please Love Me Worry, Worry You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now

Album was great! Loved the energy from not only the band but the crowd. Band was tight and I never realized what a great voice BB King had.

B.B. King is one of those giants whose work I never delved into. Very curious, but also kinda scared (for the same reason I've never read "War and Peace"). But let's see PLease let the whole record be like the first track cause this is so fun. Sweet Little Angel slows things down but I sure love this rhythm. And the build-up and subsequent pay-off are immaculate. Third track keeps it going. Makes me wanna danceeeee. I'm usually not the biggest guitar solo fan, but can't help but love it here. Love the vocals on How Blue Can You Get, and how the instrumentals compliment them. Man I guess every person who's ever told me blues is where it's at was right cause this is great. Not much else to add I'm afraid. Please Love Me manages to be the most danceable track yet, and none of them has fallen short on that regard. You Upset me Baby, while the quietest one so far, does everything right. Worry Worry is closer to what I expect from a blues song, lots of guitar and singing about their hurt, and I love it. Maybe the speech at the end is a bit outdated but I can live with that. And suddenly my body's moving of its own accord again. You Done Lost You Good Thing Now took its time but damn I love that ending. And damn I love the closer too. The lyrics, the instrumentals, everything's great. And just like that we're at the end. This flew by. Loved every second. One of the few projects so far where I liked every single song. Great stuff. Bye

OH Duke Jethro! I've played with this guy!

Loved this!

Great music!

Don't hate me, but I liked BB King better than Thelonious Monk. Maybe I just like Blues better than Jazz.

Could listen to the is all day. Love that it’s a live album, you can feel how thrilled the crowd is to be there.

Blues Blues Baby

More of these albums is what this list should be for! Very fun!!

Amazing. Puts the king in BB King. Crunchy blues

Love it! I didn't realize that his older stuff was such traditional old south style blues. I definitely want to listen to this album more

Such a great album. Definitely King of the blues. 5 Stars

Hell yes this is my kinda jam

BB King, simply the best, and a delight to hear this live show. This will be added to my short list of albums to return to and listen to as a whole album.

Refined energy An all-out rager with class B.B and his axe - a haiku

¡Me encantó!

Relevant and important a fine example of performance as the quintessential version

Finally! A blues album that isn't boring. Legendary performance!

Absolutely wonderful album, what I imagine when I think of a perfect blues album

I don’t know when, but I actually have listened to this album quite a few times. B.B. King is not my favorite, but this is undeniably a magnificent album.

BB King is the best

I think I had only listened to this one time before this. Man, what a record. I’ve always been pretty selective with my blues, and I’d say it’s not one of my favorite genres. To be honest, like many millennials with an affinity for indie rock the majority of my blues intake came from the Black Keys in the 00’s (not shitting on them… great band). I figured out that I like Muddy Waters around 10 years ago, and his Hard Again album from this list is tremendous. B.B., for all his renown, isn’t an artist I’ve really gravitated towards in my past for some reason. I think I first heard him on his record with Clapton (Ridin’ With The King), which is an okay record. That said, this album packs a different punch. Kings guitar playing on the record is no surprise, he was a masterful blues electric guitar player, but his vocals are what especially stand out to me versus my expectations. Every track is a blues powerhouse, but Sweet Little Angel and How Blue Can You Get? especially stand out. It’s sublime and an instant 5 stars from me.

You just can't go wrong with BB King

This is superb. I normally prefer studio albums over live albums, but here it works. B.B. King's voice, guitar work and the crowd all blend together extremely well.

Calm, relaxing blues

Desert island album for me

An all time classic example of the blues.

Again not sure why I always hesitate to give five stars but this was an album where I just can’t fault it, it’s just like ‘what’s not to love’ so five stars it is!

a day when you can listen to bb king is always a good day. What a performer. I am so glad I got to see him in concert. My only complaint was that “Everyday I Have the Blues” was too fast.

A 35 minute long perfect storm of live fun. The King is on it, the backing band is sharp, the crowd are having a great time. I need THIS blues on my island.

Incredible album. 10/10

Prior to listening to this, all of my listening experience with BB King had been listening to his studio recordings, and even that was sparing. To hear him, and his band, in the full throes of a live performance, is illuminating. It's so easy to think of the blues as a slower, sadder, more deliberate style of music, but here, King and co. are are raucous, almost toying with the crowd as they go. It's fantastic, and full of joy.

I'll admit, I'm getting tired of the live albums. But this is one of the seldom few in this list that HAS to be included here. This album is so insanely important to music, it inspired countless artists and arguably defined blues from thereon. I'm not going to write a long winded review here, this is so obviously an easy 5 I'm wasting my time to even justify why. We all know why already. This thing is such a rich listening experience. I went from thinking I was actually there at the Regal, to forgetting this was even a live album. Insanely good quality recording for '65. Anyways, kinda sad this was a weekend album because I barely needed to even write a review here. Fantastic.

Live performance is far and away the best format for blues music. Especially enjoyed the part where he jokes about not hitting your woman because she’ll learn nothing except how to dodge it next time.

Love this album, gives you energy to complete a task at work :) 5/5

A classic live blues album where one track drifts into another (at least for part of the album). No doubting the charisma and rhythm that comes through on every track. I don’t always think the electric guitar makes absolute sense but equally there’s some stonking solos in there. Somehow never sat down and listened to BB, which I have reason to change now.

This performance slams! It's a raw and soulful blues record with some tight musicianship and banging vocals. It's amazing that this was recorded live, King makes the guitar sing and then his vocals are bang on and so expressive. Listened to this twice through back to back, just wish I could have been there to see it live.

This is a heater. The vocals are wild and expressive, and the tenors are sweet. Sweet Little Angel is an unbelievably strong and performance. His guitar and vocal solos on Worry Worry are disgusting in a good way.

Buss classic blues

Honestly if you don't like this you probably don't like talent or artistry.

I have a rule, Best Of albums and Live albums should not be included on any favorite or best album list, unless, UNLESS, it's an amazing live album. And, there are very few of those. For example, Talking Heads Stop Making Sense and Sinatra Live at The Sands. And that's it! And now I'm including B.B. King Live at The Regal. What an infectious album. Seriously great!

The most vibrant live album I’ve ever listened to. BB King genuinely makes the audience feel every note he sings and hang on every note he plays.

Listened to this twice in a row

My God, blues musicians are just terrible at relationships.

I had a B. B. King tee shirt growing up but never actually listened to him (fake fan). Biggest mistake of my life. At first I thought that Led Zeppelin might have stolen It's My Own Fault and used it to make Since I Been Lovin' You, but I think all blues rock probably just sounds like that

Yas BB King. Loved how blue can you get.

BB KIIIIIIIG

love love love

King's of course a legend for his playing, but his raw singing makes these often straightforward blues songs timeless.

So good! Seems like it would have been a blast to be there.

All hail the king of the blues. So much soul and pride put into his performances he really was about the musicians life. Great crowd as well.

Really fun one track with the seven kids and given them right back was hype I loved hearing crowd excitement

Really enjoyed this, 5/5. The live show adds to the atmosphere, and the playing is very clean and bluesy.

Holy moly, almost missed this one and what a heartbreak that would've been. The blues are great. B.B. King is The King. The live ambience is joy. What an all-around great time.

Superb

very cool, the energy of the audience was amazing

The only thing better than a BB King album is a live BB King album. I just wish it was twice as long.

👍👍

I'd never really clicked with BB King before, because i found his style was a well-trodden path that made it not that stimulating, but this album is amazing. Blistering playing, great chat between the songs. I feel like you can hear a lot of this influence in the guitar playing and lyrics on one of my favourite albums of all time: Fleetwood Mac by Peter Green's fleetwood mac. Outstanding. Will definitely listen a lot more.

Classic blues

Pretty great

Not only one of the greatest live blues albums of all time, but also one of the greatest blues albums and greatest live albums of all time. Absolutely essential.

Great live album

What a fantastic blues album, makes me wish concerts were still this fun today, fucking incredible music

Used to think i just didn’t like the blues since most of the time it felt repetitive and uninspiring, but i genuinely LOVED this. It was jazzier and the live elements and the audience responses made the album feel more cohesive and interesting. This is what i signed up for x

Best live album I’ve heard so far. Good music, great vocals, and nice and short.

Excellent jam. Really enjoyed

King fr fr

Short and sweet with lots of brass.

I really enjoyed this.

I am by no mean any kind of a blues fan. My old CD collection included the following blues pillars: Eric Clapton -From the cradle, Jonny Lang-Long time coming and something from Doyle Bramhall so yeah, my blues depth is not....very deep. This album though? Love it!! When they say a great vocalist and a great drummer make a great band, this is something that comes to my mind.

This was damn good.

4.6 - I've not listened to BB King in a long time and he was a massive gateway into blues. I was a bit worried coming back to it, but my goodness he really is so good. His voice is amazing and he makes the guitar it's entire own voice

Absolutely brilliant album. I loved everyb track and recognised a surprisingly high number of them (considering it was from 1965!).

Man B.B. really did it for me as an anxious and depressed overweight teenager. His music holds through, 20 years later for me. So emphatic, energetic, proficient, classy, elegant and a lil misogynistic. But hey its the 60s what are we gonna doooooo? BB is the king, prim proper and polished 5th Avenue Blues. Straight from the plantation and right into your ears.

Honestly, an amazing album. The energy is unmatched and every song hits like crack. Such an amazing voice, and the live album really adds to everything in this album.

Loved it. Way more than I expected to. It was funny to hear a 40 year old BB King sound so youthful and spry compared to what I was used to, yet still referred to as the "Legendary BB King." The recording quality was exquisite. It sounded better than studio albums of that era somehow.

Absolute banger

Maybe not the best but a very good and classic album by one of the greatest blues musicians ever.

Love love love…

If I was a young girl in the 60s and I saw this man perform live, I'd scream like that too.

Great sound quality for a live performance. Really interesting tunes , though the lyrics are a bit strange at times

Had a blast

Just a gem

What a joy to listen too.

Blues in jeder erhabenen Form. Blues voller Dankbarkeit. Die Tränen fließen vor Ergriffenheit und Glück.

Absolutely love BB King. Hearing this live album just makes me love him even more. Amazing energy.

Fun fun fun

That they could sound this good and tight without in ear monitors or auto tune is a testament to how good these musicians were. What I wouldn't give to sit in on this show. This album gave me stank face the whole listen through.

BB King captured at the height of his considerable powers live in concert at the Regal Theater in Chicago in 1964 and released the following year, the year I was born, so this is as old as me, and just as great. It is a remarkable live recording. The tight rhythm section never stop, literally - until it's time to flip the record; the music segues seamlessly from one classic blues song to the next, BB introducing each with a little story "Ladies and Gentlemen" about having a girl, or losing a girl. The horn section is clear and sharp, the sound overall is stunning. And on top of the fantastic band, BB's guitar and voice are supreme. His lead playing is sounds so simple and is so perfect, and many greats have failed to duplicate the magic. His voice slips and slides from deep throaty growls to falsetto highs. This record marked the start of BB King's move from chitlin circuit to rock audiences. Innumerable guitarists, many of them white, many of them British, many of them great players took influence from this. A few came close...

І Live At The Regal є, чи не найкращим, прикладом подібного виконання.

Gets introduced as "The King of the Blues" and for 35 incredible minutes, he's holding court

Live is unfair, but this is a classic unparalleled blues performance. The king.

B.B King lives up to his moniker! An incredible half and hour of some of the best blues. He skillfullt navigates between letting his voice and his guitar do the talking, all the while staying connected with the audience. 4.5/5, which I round up!

Love it! A classic. 5/5

The standard for live blues. VERY enjoyable listen. 10/10 highlights on this album are Sweet Little Angel, Worry Worry, and Help the poor.

The best live blues album of all time. B.B. King’s voice and guitar is THE blues.

Great Album, had fun listening

Es BB King en concierto. Se sabe que va a ser glorioso.

Excellent. I imagine this was an amazing Live set to be a part of! Great instrumentals and good vocal work. 'Worry, Worry' was my fave. Loved those guitar riffs!

This was such a great listen! So good. That crowd is absolutely insufferable, though. Why do people insist on screaming like that?

Blues still not my thing but who am I to judge?

Didn’t think I was going to be into this genre but I was so wrong! Very immersive. Really enjoyed his stage presence.

Truly the King. What a fantastic album. Love just hearing the joy and enthusiasm of the crowd throughout the songs. Great musicianship and truly outstanding vocals.

A quintessential blues album. His vocals just cut right through you. The tight backing instrumentation lets it shine.

Yeah, this is a hell of a great album. 5/5

High quality

No frills, no pretension, no overwrought production, no “clever” lyrical quips, no tryhard striving to create something “profound” - B.B. King didn’t need any of that. Grade A badassery, one of the pinnacles of a music genre that’s in the genome of essentially every style of modern music in the United States and beyond. Guy showed more genuine emotion in 34 minutes than some artists do in their entire career. And the fact that this was recorded in Chicago, a city whose Blues cred is second only to the Mississippi delta, only makes me love it more.

Awesome

wow i love this

He’s not the king for nothing.

B.B. King was fucking good at that instrument. Truly earns the title of master. This captures the feel of this concert extremely well. Probably the rare live album that does that.

I can remember my mom playing B.B.King for me when I was a kid (somewhere between the age of 5-9). Her goal was to share the sensation of listening to good blues where it almost makes you feel like you're sucking on a piece of lemon. I'm not sure how much other people can get to this sensation BUT this is for sure some good "lemon music" as she would say. The platonic ideal of what blues should sound like in my opinion. Only one "weak" track for me with "Woke Up This Mornin'" but really even that is not so bad.

Can't fault it

I may be a little biased as I'm a big B.B. King fan, but I believe his blues style is goated. He has a way of making his guitar licks so similar but completely different. There's a reason is touted as one of the best blues guitarists of all time (I think he is THE best). Combine that with his soulful singing voice and the band behind him, this album is amazing. Props to the sound engineer, I would not have changed a thing.

Everyday i have the blues es un clásico que se queda BB King arrebatándoselo a Memphis Slim, How blue can you get? es otro fijo, Worry, Worry es magistral, It’s only my fault imprescindible (de John Lee Hooker), Sweet Little Sixteen... todas hasta el alucinante Help the Poor. Electric, simple, legendary

I see the king in BB King so why can’t you?

Wow, loved every minute of this album, it was great! 5 stars for me and will listen again certainly.
