>The Beatles
I'm Wayne's World, there is a joke about a band playing called The Shitty Beatles and that they live up to the name. I imagine that band is actually The Byrds

An absolute classic. Great start
The northwest grunge scene was never my thing but this has some pretty good stuff. It's 3½ stars but I can't bring myself to round up to 4.
Just not for me
There are some all time bangers on here. There's also a lot of just ok to not good songs. It's a 3.5 but that 8 and a half minute track of noise is making round down.
It's fine background music I guess
Incredible
Ray Charles is one of the all time greats. Why pick his album of, admittedly fantastic, covers of country songs?
Can't believe I'm just now finding out about this band
Great album cover
I mean, there are some bangers in here. There's also a fair amount of "we got high and thought this was funny"
I mean. This is one of the greatest albums of all time. Love it when I already have an album on vinyl.
Of course the longest album (almost 2 torterous hours) is also experimental unlistenable garbage. This is the soundtrack to Joker (2019)
It's fine
Great vibes
The songs you know you know for a reason. However, the rest of the songs just fade into the background. Now I don't know, I haven't studied music theory and evolution so maybe they are doing something groundbreaking and revolutionary but to me it just sounds like middle of the road pop music. It's fine, it's far from bad but it's also far from the religious experience people describe. They know what they're doing but it's fine. Truly, this only confirms to me that in the movie Yesterday, if someone started playing these songs and nobody had ever heard them before, he'd get some fans but by and large nobody would care.
As far as "experimental" music goes, this is almost listenable. I would even dare say there are a few riffs that are pretty good. That said, I can't in good conscience give this anything above 1 star.
Not his best album but damn good
I mean, come on! Not my favorite album of theirs but it's undeniable
This would be a 5 star album but now I'm fighting myself from giving it 3 because I'm tired of bands making albums with 10 minute long random noise tracks. You're not edgy or doing anything new and you're definitely not saying anything by making these. They are not creative, enjoyable, thought provoking and they're definitely not music.
All bangers
I loved this way more than I thought I would. Tempted to give it 5 but can't quite
It doesn't get much better than this
Love chill vibes music but this is so chill it's asleep.
I kind of loved this
I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would
I mean, I want to like this but it's just so uninteresting and kind of full of itself.
This is one of those albums I feel is a prank. I have heard a few radiohead songs and like them quite a bit. There's only 2 songs on this album and 1 is quite good. The rest feels like competent, though still uninteresting and frustrating, experimental music.
I enjoyed this way more than I thought
Stick with Crosy, Nash and sometimes Young.
During the first track I was worried that I wasn't going to like this much as Girl from Ipanema has become the basis of elevator music. Though quickly I got on this album's wavelength and this is very much the kind of record I want to put on then pour myself a glass of scotch and light a cigar. Fantastic.
I guess if by post-hardcore you mean heavily distorted guitars and zero energy, sure...
This was the first CD I ever bought and is in contention for the album I have listened to the most times in my life. It's not their best album but every song is possibly the best song on the album. One is one of the greatest songs of all time. Dyers Eve, Frayed Ends of Sanity, Blackened and Shortest Straw are simply some of the greatest metal/trash songs out there. Truly one of the best albums of all time.
Was kind of excited for this one as, despite my distaste of grunge, I've heard some mudhoney before and liked it, but this just didn't work for me.
An English, female lead punk band with a sax!? Don't know if a band has been more for me.
The best Paul McCartney album yet. Still don't think he deserves 6 albums, so far, on the list.
This album still rips
Why is post-punk as shit as punk is good? This sounds like some people were listening to The Talking Heads and decided "we should start a band kind of like them'" then they all got way too drunk and high to be able perform in any way. In their heads, they are killing it, but we the audience are suffering through their incoherent mishmash.
I'm giving this 3 stars because there are moments of real talent and possibility. Overall, though, it's mostly basic oompa loompa music.
Why is there more than 1 Dexys Midnight Runners albums on this list? You're picking 1001 essential albums from all of music around the world and you just have to include 2! Dexys Midnight Runners albums!? That said, this band is so much more than the one hit wonders we all know them as. Still... 2 albums on this list is insane.
How dare you call this any kind of rock. I truly hate twang
1001 essential albums of all time from around the globe. I'm 160 in. This is my 8TH! Beatles/Beatles adjacent album!? Why? WHY? I was already thinking they were overrated. This album is making me think they were straight trash. 1001 essential albums and 8, so far, are from the same 4 fucking people!? No. Just no. As for a review of this specific Beatles adjacent album: Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.
Mid
This album has music on it! Still, a few tracks keep it from being 4 stars but I really enjoyed a few tracks on this one
I see now why people say that not everyone listened to The Velvet Underground but everyone who listened to the velvet Underground started a band. Listening to this it's easy to think "these guys are successful? If this counts as music, I can do that!" Murder mystery keeps this from 4 stars and almost knocked it all the way down to 2.
I mean as far as "experimental indie" goes, this is at least music. But there's not much there. This is the kind of thing I don't mind having on in the background because it's pleasant enough but you don't need to pay attention to it.
I knew I was in trouble when I saw it was a live album with only 7 tracks but nearly an hour 20 in length....
Given how much I hate Paper Planes, I was surprised at how kinda good this was
Song 2 is an all timer but the rest of the album is ok
Nirvana is just never going to be for me. The best songs were covers
A masterpiece
Ok. So The Byrds are The Frey to The Beatles Coldplay. A band doing an extremely similar thing, yet somehow even more less interesting version, to an overrated band.
So there's stuff on here that I kind of like and would get 4 stars. 2 problems, it's still a genre in general I'm not big on and while I enjoy some of this, I enjoy it in small doses... over 2 hours and 40+ songs is the opposite of a small dose. I had to do something listening to this that I have yet to do on this 1001 album journey and something I didn't want to do; I took an intermission and listened to something I enjoy. I needed a break. 2 stars
AC/DC are the all time supreme heavy weight champions of "all killer, no filler" albums
Hey! This Radiohead album resembles music!!!
I haven't listened to this in 12+ years yet I still know every word.
All hail Debbie Harry
The early 2000s auto tune trend was rough
Yes
I liked this way more than I should
This was surprisingly goofy and fun
Every time I hear the name Massive Attack I think it's some kind of thrash metal band or something then I put it on and it's the most chill trip hop imaginable.
... his name in American Fiction makes more sense now
Mmf, wha? Did somebody slip me a tranquilizer? No? Oh, you just put on Coldplay. That makes sense. Best sleep I've had in a while.
I mean... it's one of the greatest albums of all time
It's a 2.5 but I'm rounding down
Even though this is the kind of hip hop that I tend to enjoy this album has no energy to it.
Eminem was never my guy but this album aged like milk
< The Beatles
I really tried to give this less than 5 stars but... I just enjoyed listening to this so much
I prefer his work in Crank
I can't deny, I spent years blindly hating on Swift. Over the last few years I've been trying to get rid of that mentality. In terms of her specifically, seeing the things going on at and around the eras tour is cool. This is the first time I've actually bothered to sit down and earnestly listen to her music. With all that said, I do think she's not for me, and that's ok. I will also say, this album is a ton of fun. That's ok too. Music can just be fun. Shake it Off is an undeniable banger. So while I don't see myself buying her albums any time soon, I will have fun whenever her music comes on.
This might have been a 5 star album if it wasn't for the interludes
I want to like the specials but they just don't get there for me
No
Rules
Fun through and through
I wanted to love this but it's just ok. Also, I can't believe I'm saying this, Nirvana's version was better.
Hey! This Radiohead album is all music and real songs! Wow
I mean, there's no denying this is one of the greatest rock albums of all time
I feel every sketch making fun of synth pop bands is making fun of this band.
Once again... why is post punk as shit as punk is good
Music snobs can hate all they want. This album rules

Yawn
Started out interesting, then....
I will never understand albums/bands like this that seem to think music is a joke or something. The singer doesn't seem to care about any of it so he just maybe purposefully "sings" in the most low effort shitty way. If you don't care about your music, why should I?
No. Absolutely not. No.
Undeniable
Wow. This album is a blast.
I mean... the title says it all, I guess.
No, thank you
Simply one of the greatest albums of all time
Getting pretty tired of all these English "rock" bands that sound basically like this. For the 1001 albums you should listen to before you die, 500 of them are kinda the same album
Another Radiohead like experience. I see the album and get excited. "Oh, I've listened to plenty of this band, this will be fun to listen to a whole album." Then the listening experience: "ohhh... oh... this isn't so much music as ambient noise to play quietly in the background when you just need something to ignore. "
This man has way too many albums on this list. Especially for how uninteresting he is.
More uninteresting mid English pop rock.
Loved this

Why is this on here. I like ub40 but why this album
I normally try to push politics aside when reviewing albums but... for just so many reasons... fuck kid rock. That said, I did relisten hoping to have some of the fun I had in middle and high school when this album was popular but... fuck this thing aged like eggnog in the sun in July.

Worse than the Beatles. I briefly got excited thinking this was a Fifth Dimension album. Then I saw it was the fucking birds. The absolute worst Beatles wannabe band.

Sometimes I have a real issue with this list. It's bad enough that it has every album ever made by a Beatle as well as at least one album by every mid as fuck English band trying to be the Beatles and a few American ones, but it's got multiple albums by "bands" like Can. Is Weezer on the list? No but we got 3 albums by one hit wonder Dexys Midnight Runners. Any Blink 182? No, but we got multiple albums by an "experimental" band that is virtually unlistenable. Any Sevendust? Drowning Pool? Hell, any Selena? No, but we've got so many Byrds albums you'll want to run head first into a wall. By the way, I'm not against these bands having albums on the list. I think the point of the list should be to show the breadth of music. But I TRULY believe every band should only be allowed ONE album. Metallica is my favorite band of all time, but it should be Master of Puppets, the end. Beatles, it should be the white album and nothing more. Maybe, MAYBE, some bands that truly changed their sound can have more than one like Fleetwood Mac or something. But this is insane.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the Beatles Ok. Lets have this conversation. I'm sure it's no coincidence I'm getting this album the day that Ozzy died but in general I've been steeping myself in Black Sabbath the last month or so. I want to put to rest that The Beatles are the greatest/most influential band of all time. I've never agreed with that but listening to more Sabbath lately has truly proven it to me. The Beatles created/influenced the boy band and mid tier pop. Black Sabbath created and influenced dozens of sub genres of rock and metal including, I dare say, they created the very genre of heavy metal. All while having not just one, but at least two of the greatest vocalists to EVER do it. As well as some of the most talented musicians ever to be in the band including the extremely iconic original lineup. Now, I'm not saying Black Sabbath is the greatest band of all time but I do think they deserve to be in the conversation more than the band the wrote We All Live in a Yellow Submarine. This band, this album in particular, are incredible masterpieces the likes of which we'll probably never see again. All praise the prince of fucking darkness.

= the Beatles He's very talented but also fuck him
= the Beatles The best Radiohead album yet
= The Beatles This list really is 70% middle of the road English Rock and pop from the 60s and 70s
> the Beatles Good
= The Beatles Perfectly fine
> The Beatles Finally a good English electronic album
> The Beatles
= the Beatles This is more folk than country and for some reason I can swing with folk but can not stand country. The best song is about a good genre.
> The Beatles Very fun
< the Beatles Good beats and whatnot but it goes on too long and I'm just not into super christiany music.

< the Beatles As many people have pointed out already, why the fuck are there THREE DMR albums on this list. The first one was enough to show that they were more than one hit wonders. This is the biggest evidence yet of the extreme English/UK/Ireland bias this list has.
>the Beatles
< The Beatles 1 or 2 decent songs. Kind of a who gives a shit album. Tired of listening to every album made by any needle beatle. For the record, the ranking of beatles goes 1. Ringo Starr 2. George Harrison 3. Pete best 4. John Lennon 5. An actual beetle 6. Paul McCartney

Just barely > the Beatles I haven't heard the words G. Love and Special Sauce in forever. Was pleasantly surprised. It's fine. It's unique. There's something there, it's not fully for me but I respect it. If they were English, there would be 3 albums on this list.
= The Beatles
< The Beatles The very kind of country i hate

> The Beatles It's so nice to be reminded occasionally that the people who made this list are aware that music outside of the UK in the 60s and 70s does, in fact, exist
= The Beatles Suspicious hearts is an all timer. The rest is fine
> The Beatles
= the Beatles
< the Beatles Brian Eno, the world's foremost elevator and hold music composer, has far too many albums on this list. Admittedly, this is easily his best album but I give all credit for the "enjoyable" and borderline listenable parts to David Byrne.
> The Beatles
> The Beatles Gene Simmons sucks, but KISS rules
= The Beatles
= the Beatles
= The Beatles
< The Beatles This is the kind of album I'm conflicted about, in a way. For one thing, it sucks, is annoying and I'm struggling to see why it's "essential" in any way. However, on the other side, the book/list SHOULD be a wide variety of music and should include all kinds of stuff, even experimental/fuck around randomly hitting a piano bullshit. That said, I'd be more open to bullshit like this on the list if so much of it wasn't taken up by every album ever made by a Beatle, 3 fucking Dexys Midnight Runners albums, copious repeats of other artists, often English, and the metric shit ton of 50s and 60s English bands that desperately wanted to BE the Beatles and a shitload of 70s mid as fuck English rock bands.
=The Beatles
= the Beatles
= the Beatles This is the very definition of middle of the road. Truly don't get people calling this edgy. It's anything but.
= The Beatles
= The Beatles Reminds me of the Beatles in that the songs we all know are great, they're a fun time, but everything else is so aggressively fine and forgettable.
< the Beatles No thank you. Started out perfectly ignorable, became annoying
>>>> the Beatles
> The Beatles

>>>>>> the Beatles This is, without question, one of the single greatest albums of all time. It's a Thrashterpiece. Every song is incredible and intricate and so well done. However, Orion is a beautiful, masterful, amazing song. It shines above the rest and really shows off the bands talent, especially Cliff. RIP Cliff Burton.
> the Beatles Truly shocked by a lot of these reviews. I would happily listen to the Ocean's 11 score over most Beatles songs
< The Beatles No thank you
> the Beatles People who hate this album/band, often attacking the lyrics, yet rate bullshit like Yellow Submarine 5 stars have zero taste in music and boil their unseasoned chicken breasts. Now, I can admit this does not deserve 5 stars but... Fuck the haters, it's what it's getting to counter balance all the people who find plain yogurt too bold a flavor. PS: Take A Look Around is an all time banger
< The Beatles There are albums that sound exactly like this but better

< the Beatles I wanted to like this so much but it is the most cliche kind of hip hop that people make fun of. I was waiting for someone to say "my name is mc chill and I'm here to say" that said, it was cool to hear the original Renegades for the first time.

> the Beatles I have listened to a fair amount of Smashing Pumpkins over the year and always liked them, especially Corgan's vocals and the guitars, but never counted myself a fan, necessarily, in that I never owned an album of theirs. Also, I always get nervous about albums over 45 min and this is one of the longest on the list at just over 2 hours. That said, great album. Doesn't totally justify the length but I have no real complaints. Now for one of my favorite Simpsons jokes ever: Billy Corgan: "Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins" Homer: "Homer Simpson, smiling politely"
