Motörhead
5/5
Absolutly insane music. Pioneere of the genere of heavy metal. Intense, rapid and raw.
Never had a chance to see them live and I kind of males me sad. Their energy live was huge you can hear it in the crowd.
Amazing selection of songs. I kind of dont like live albums cause I feel it chatong havong all the good songs in There but this is the really good stuff

A true creative and innovative unpredictable punk album. Loved it. Better songs are with female singer, lots of influences love the country rock fussion. It was refreshing and its early 80s so very experimental for the time

Sepultura
5/5
With a mix of samba, soca and baticsds and lyrics in portuguese and english and including indigenous music this is easily top 3 of the greatest death metal albums ever and shows us the diversity Brasil has.
At the highth of their musical career it shows how much they matured as musocians not just showing off their insane musical ability but actually making better arrangement choices and understanding only playing fast and with range it makes a good death metal song.
Inviting other musicians from around the metal scene using their fame to spread this album and push sales around the world which it did.
Its really hard and intense but very well done. Having 2 classical guitar songs right in the middle of the album lind of like an interlude to have the listener relax and rebbot the brain for the second part of the record which is even more intense than the first part. Great move by the producer. Sound of recording is clean and crispy

The Coral
5/5
Seen the album cover but had never listened to one single song that I could remember.
They were not big enough to reach my hone country. Although I lable it indie rock their style of old school rock and country and a hint reagge dub made me instantly love this album. It hooked me on the first song and has gotten better after that.
Albums like this are the reason Im doing the 1001 album thing cause we cant know everything and we cant listen to all the music.
This is a great example for me of an unknown band to instant playlist material.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
Sorpresivamente me gusto.
Fuk this dude
Beatles
5/5
With the beatles.
The Smashing Pumpkins
5/5
Tangerine Dream
1/5
Its not that I cant die without listening to it. Its that I almost died listening to this crap.
Pavement
2/5
Nice album very easy listening but didnt find any real highlights just some good musicians just playing nice songs. Lacked that wow element for me as it was all sounding alike and no zenith on this one.
Liked it but didnt wow me.
Jacques Brel
3/5
Although I didnt understand half of the album, the passion Jacques signs with and the people loving it makes it amazing to hear.
Its a romantic pop ballards album like a Sinatra but from another country. Glad it found its way to me so I could learn and listen to it and “discover” it.
Impressed by this one that was a left jab in the face.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
5/5
Amamzing my cousin had this CD when I was a kid and Had no clue who the group was
Devendra Banhart
2/5
Not my thing. Good production but definitvely not the type of music Im into.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
4/5
This was a good producer. Reminds me of George Martin. He was glam rock and heavily influenced by late beatles. Really good and surprising. Actually loved this so
Adele
3/5
Find her boring although one of the greatest voices in music and even with good lyrics. Some are good most are the same. Good listen but nothing special to me. Like celine dion vibe.
I would never go see her live even f free tickets are offered.
Fatboy Slim
3/5
Boards of Canada
3/5
Meh
Elvis Presley
3/5
The Byrds
3/5
Good album. A bit repetitive at some point but at least 4 really really good songs. Overall works as an album with the order. Its well produced. Thumbs up for sure
Nico
1/5
Nope not for me. Sounds like a sad depressed hippie signing the same song over and over again.
Might be more performance reciting than music to me
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Beautiful soothing voice lot pf pain pn those notes. Perfect LP for realxing.
Antony and the Johnsons
1/5
Depressing not fun
Vibrato on voice was driving me insane.
Vlice was not freat for me
Tom Waits
5/5
Elis Regina
4/5
Actually surprising. Cant understand most but this is an amazing album with a LOT of influences and variety. Samba, flamenco, funk, bossa nova, bolero, indie and other types of music. Very diverse, the producer killed it also mixing is great and sounds amazing. Very refreshing and relaxing
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
Siouxsie And The Banshees
5/5
Best album so far top 5 punk of all time. Experimental, progressive, industrial post punk. Nothing you have heard sound like this. Now its probably in my top 50 ever best albums.
Grace Slick meets sex pistols, with the ramones in the trunk on a car full of the runaways. Simply a masterpiece with punk rockers who are actually great musicians. Clean as punk can get.
Public Image Ltd.
3/5
Good album with a whole lot of Pistols on it. Tough to judge in context. Its more of a continuation of where they left off another band. Last 2 songs I could live without too experimental and crappy in all honesty but thats what punk is really about.
You can imagine this album influenced Pink Floyds The Wall as a critique to the fascist state and a little screw you to The state for what the did to nevermind the bollocks. Also we hear a similar beat line to Another one bites the dust of Queen.
Meaning this follow up project of johnny rotten was highly influential for the next years after pistols dissolved.
Its better to judge it now amd see how it is so important in context to the progression of the post punk and rock scene.
Franz Ferdinand
5/5
It has to be on my top 5 list pf the 2000s albums. Short and powerful taking post-post punk to a higher level. In context the USA was taken over by hip-pop and tons of mediocre rappers were on the airwaves not leaving space for rock bands like this one.
Rock and Pop Rock had a big bang left at the time to fight the ressistance with bands like Muse, Killers, Darkness, Velvert Revolver, Evanescence, Audioslave, White Stripes, Cold Play, Modest Mouse, Von Bondies, Sugarcult, Strokes, Amy Winehouse, Lot, Keane, New Found Glory, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Zebrahead, FOB, Fastballs, MCR, Maroon 5, Razorlight, Bowling for Soup, Tegan and Sara, Interpol, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan and some other was still not enought to balance the wave of hundreds of rappers getting signed and releasing 💩 on a daily basis. It was a good fight and a great year for rock and pop rock.
First song put me off a bit but once that starts the CD just gets better and better. Maybe it should have been the last song.
5/5
Top 10 album of the 80s and amongst the best all time. Once I heard how to dismantle an atomic bomb I wished the bomb went off and ended their careers but then I go back to this album and understand how important and influential it is for music as well as for me personally.
The first 3 songs are probably the best CD start front runner for best all time along with guns and roses appetite
Joni Mitchell
1/5
Good voice, good production amd musicians but this type of music to me sucks. Passive aggressive artsy indie music.
Id much rather listen to Grace Slick who has a simar pitch and tone of voice as well as the Wilson sisters from Heart.
Joni has a better album or at least one I can listen to completely this is not her best although that second song Jungle Line is great.
Chicago
4/5
Linkin Park
5/5
What should be considered one of the nest albums in hostorynof recorded music. Linkin took the world by surprise acheiving what only the Beatles could do over and over again, to have 90% of the album become successful singles each each song being more powerfull and better than the song before. Nu-metal with rap and strong lyrics and riffs. Simply a perfect album from start to finish, that captured the feeling of hopelessness of a whole generation. The combination of an insanely great voice on Chester (RIP) and power chords with desperation and anger is a helping hand to all people feeling the same way. Its not only the great music is about how this album saved lives by talking their truth.
The successful formula that was Limp Bizkit was perfected by Linkin Park making this the best LP of the 2000 by a mile. They repeated the dose in their next album and as great as Meteora is and should be considered top 20 of the 2000. There is absolutely no way to top perfection but they tried and second chance they were almost perfect as well.
John Prine

And here I was thinking I hate Bob Dylan 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
The Kinks
3/5
Ive always felt the Kinks were a second tier Beatles. This album like all the others are very good. Still I feel they became the Minks once the beatles were out of the picture. Thos is a really good album very easy to listen to and flowing amazingly. By 1972 I feel they became a better band without the beatles pressure. Was a different kind of pressure all about taking the vacant spot. They did well I like em but this album its not my favorite.
Still aweso
E and freat musicianship from all members. Really good band
Calexico
1/5
Easy listening album. Boring but nice to have as background music while you work. Nothing special, Calexico played it safe no risk or innovation. Same songs over and over with an eventual horn
Fail.
The Zombies
4/5
This band is super underrated. An amazing British Invasion band that lived at the same era as the Beatles with a smaller life span.
This is their best album and their phsychadelic pop rock with their Beatles influence makes this a really really good album with great fluidity. Band split up too soon and only did 2 albums I believe in their short lived span. Saw them in concert recently qnd they are still good. They recorded more albums but their 60s glory days they only did 2.
These are one of what could have been bands that reached a peak in a short period and left a good dent on the history of music.
Must listen to album.
Booker T. & The MG's
4/5
Booket T is still an underrated talent in my opinion. This specific album are cover songs which most have great arrangements and pretty original to say the least.
I used to not like them when I was a kid as I felt it was elevator music because its instrumental but these dude could play and jam. The fact that they were a mixed rock band back in the early 60s makes it much more important.
Today I was able to really appreciate this album for what it is as a grown up and understand the importance of Booker T in context of his time.
I love a few of their original stuff that came after this debut album which definitively left a mark and paved the way.
Amazing album
The Black Keys
5/5
This has got to be one of the best albums of the 2010-2019 decade. I had forgotten how good it is. The song order is impecable. Its a progressive love story with diferent rythyms and beats that works as a continious song.
Its very rare to find an album like this now a days where the producers only care about making one or 2 singles.
This is a masterpiece and although I like El camino’s albums singles a bit more this really work as an album and I enjoyed it more than the album with the better singles.
Judas Priest
4/5
One of the greatest metal albums of all time. The one “mistake” was placing the song ubited in the middle which destroys the hard metal flow it has until then.
Although the song is necessary taking i account the historical context of the moment and its not a bad song its not just metal enogh for this song selection.
Love ot thou
Cocteau Twins
1/5
I dislike this type of music. Not my thing I find it boring. Dont like Kate Bush either. They should leave these groups forgotten.
Pet Shop Boys
3/5
As much as I love some of their songs I feel the genere of music is a bit overrated.
Album is alright but very repetitive sound and lyricwise. I do get the context of a new genere which is always great and what this movement did for music.
I like a lot of songs but not as an album
Dolly Parton
2/5
Great the 2 things I despise the most in a single song.
Country and religious brainwashing.
And here I sat thinking I hated Bob Dylan.
As much as I dislike country music and aleluya god is strong and helps me lyrics, I will let that slide with Dolly Parton cause in a world full of trumptards be a Dolly and make this shitty world a better place and help as many as you can.
My respect for Dolly as a human being is far greater than my dislike for her genere. I find her voice to be beautiful and soothing and kind of mesmerizing at the same time. She sound like southern comfort and it helped me go through most of the album.
I just dont like country music overall
Sepultura

With a mix of samba, soca and baticsds and lyrics in portuguese and english and including indigenous music this is easily top 3 of the greatest death metal albums ever and shows us the diversity Brasil has.

The The
2/5
Weird one this one. Liked it but only one outstanding song in my opinion. They are all over the place with all generes combined but not in a great way cause the orde rof the songs was not right.
They are a totally 80s band like timbuke 3 and a few other bamds that didnt evolve from that mid 80s vibe.
Cool to hear but nothing special for me
Jimmy Smith
4/5
As smooth and clean as a jazz recoding can be. Masterful album thet flows like wine in the villas of the breezy mountains of guatemala in the village of santo poco.
I can listen to this all dey feels like one neverending song that you can loop over amd over again amd still never feel its the same.
Insane skills as musicians not one single flaw detected. Very soothing ans relaxing could be background music for my life.
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
Most def. His best album. Incredible he did so much great music in si little time and makes me wonder what we missed.
Flawless album of simply well arranged and produced songs. Mixing rock with other generes. His deep voice is beautiful and the quality of the group as musicians is just insane. The drummer clean as can be.
This is one of those perfect records that happen once or twice in a decade.
Turbonegro
4/5
Enjoyed the album. Never heard it as an album only one or 2 song. Was surprised a lot of energy and kind of a post punk but organized and well written arrangements. Its like a step on the punk rock movement before pop punk came into the scene.
The voice sounds like kids singing with some hatred inside but nothing like old school punk of abandoned or disturbed dudes just screamming and playing instruments they didnt knew how to play.
Much more compex music than early punk. One of the better albums from that era. Unfortunately it didnt have a lot of airplay in USA as they were busy with hip-hop and skipped this solid LP.
The 80s rock of motley crue and glam rock era mixed with hardcore punk is a great mix. Can totally see me playing tony hawk pro slater playing this album
Pink Floyd
5/5
Know this album by heart.
Know all the songs
Top 10 album in music recorded history for me.
Arcade Fire
3/5
Indie pop not my thing they sound like bi-polar hippies on an acid trip.
A fast song and a slow one full of hate the other full of love. Too much emotions going everywhere without any order just a few good songs I liked as singles but the album doesnt do it for me. Not a bad album just not my liking
Metallica
3/5
Its not on Youtube so coulndt listen but have the CD and I remember it was somehow good and innovative at the time.
Eels
4/5
Wow I camt believe I had never listened to this album. Its very cool amd experimental that forst song is pure gold and got me into a full groove to listen to the complete album.
Its indie experimental rock and I love the voice distortions on the songs amd the sudden unexpected pauses amd just crazy stuff going on all the time. A surprise song every song I really was lind of clueless of what to expect after the first song but was intrigued and needed to know the progression.
One of the nest albums I didnt had a clue about that Ive “discovered” here. Know the band amd know a few songs but have never ever listened to an album of them and they have 15 albums which is very very impressive.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
5/5
In my country Elvis was not played too much. The crappy radio stations robbed me of some wonderful music.
This album is great from start to finish. Easy listening, no filler song. Elvis is much more than I was taught. Learned this a few years ago and hope everyone can listen to his music
Hugh Masekela
2/5
I liked it. Although not my favorite type of music it played well. Songs were too long and sometimes got too repetitive and boring. One song cant remember which had a trumpet part and then abruptly it started a piano part which was surprising and refreshing.
The Byrds
3/5
Pretty good band already heard one and was better than this one. Solid musicians that knew their style and flowed great. Album is cool and easy listening but the 2 instrumental songs almost made go sleep. It OK
The 13th Floor Elevators
3/5
Cool album. Too repetitive all songs sound about the same but a little more heavy that usual psychodelic rock. Good music to losten as a background but not a life changing album
Willie Nelson
5/5
Had not heard this perfect CD of ballards country style. Such great renditions and what I usually feel is a tiresome voice works in this album perfectly. Perfect length.
I dislike country but this CD which I had not listened to since 1993 when i High School, when for some reason my dad got a hold to it, he would play it on my way to drop me to school and I hated it, listening to it now its just a beautiful masterpiece we should all be able to enjoy.
For context not one single country song is played in Puerto Rican radio stations, not then not now. So its a wierd genere to me.
Fugees
5/5
Masterpiece amongst masterpieces. If thosbAlbum is not in your top 5 rap albums of all times you should not have a saying about anything having to do with rap.
To me its toss up between illmatic and this for 1st and 2nd place followed by PE’s fear of a black planet, slim shady album and eother black star or Eric B and Rakims paid in full.
The Score changed the raps course and the vocal range and stylenplus the lyrical content delivered by Lauryn Hill helped put them in another planet. Too bad Wyclef and Lauryn were not mature adults and called it quits in the height of their fame.
They were so good that all three went on solo careers and their debut albums were top of the chain with Miseducation, The Carnival and ghetto superstars. Simply too much talent in a small space like the beatles.
SAULT
1/5
What the fu)$ is this??? Is this sex music or protest music. Im confussed.
Experimental speak easy music that is not great for either. This album could easily be erased from this list
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
This is poetry with background sounds, not really music. Lyrics are tough and beautiful. Great songwriting.
Butttttt its as depressive as they come. If I ever end my life, this will be tue album that will be playing when done.
Soooo depressing yet such dark and great lyrics.
Aerosmith
4/5
Really good album. Solid until the last 2 songs whoch changes the tone and the song sound like a filler. Otherwise one of their best albums ever.
Drive-By Truckers
3/5
Actually surprised me first song was really good and pumped me but it went down a notch from that initial start. Still this band susrpised me and the album is much better than what I ever expected.
The Flaming Lips
1/5
Not my thing
Find it boring and sinply not a good voice. Lyrics are alright but nohing life changing.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Have thos Album but always used to skip to the better known songs. I was today years old when I learned that this although the same tone all album is a masterpiece of songwriting and an amazing album and that its much better as a continous work of art. Their harmonies are really amazong amd the contrast in their voices and pitch are sublime. Easy listening really good album
Belle & Sebastian
1/5
Same song over and over. Not my thing its boring and predictable.
Jethro Tull
4/5
Ive tried a thousand times to get into Jethro Tull’s music and I just can’t take it seriously. I hear it amd instantly envision medieval drunks at a bar just getting drunk and fighting and Willow in a corner smoking weed while the how to train my dragon kid gets rosted by the dragon Rhaeal from Game of Thrones on the way to Morodor to meet the princess bride
Highlight of album is the song My God and locomotive breath which are pretty rockish but not my type of music.
Goldfrapp
3/5
Good album, coherent song order, secy voice, relaxing, but lacks a few show stopper songs to make it great.
Leonard Cohen
4/5
This dudes voice is so depressing. Its the final push for anyone thinking about it. Amazing album start to finish. Really liked it only one song wasnt great and maybe too slow and depressing but good as an album for sure
The La's
3/5
Mid. Although fun its Definitively not a top 1,000 album.
The Zutons
4/5
Wow blown away by this group and LP which was almost perfect. Last song went country and slow to end it which sucked.
But pretty fresh original unpredictable music. Good musicians with great songwritting.
Black Sabbath
5/5
Best metal album ever still the original which started metal. Simply a masterpiece from begining to end. The begining is still scary to hear. Its like if you are sneaking into a satanic sacrifice ritual.
There are not many albums still today after 55 years that are this powerful. New generes have emerged and still nothing can surpass this debut album for a band or for a genere.
Its a blueprint that will never be equaled and even thou there are a few who have given it a run for the top spot like van halen and guns debut they still lacked something.
Ozzy’s crazy pitch and tony’s dark heavy riffs along with geezers baseline and bill’s off-tempo tempo drumming makes this a top 20 album ever.
I can only imagine buying this album and listening to that first song my mind would have melted if I were 13 and heard that in 1970. I envy those kids who got to experience that moment first hand.
Maybe its a little short but the lable had no clue what thos was and how it would change the music scene and history so probabaly recorded just seven songs cause it was too much too soon to have it been a 10-11 song album.
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
Kind of the same thing over and over. A few good songs strong a singles bit the album was too repetitive and kind of lame. Great harmonies though
Stephen Stills
3/5
Very surprising didnt expect a great album. From indie to rock blues and very cool sound. Album was well produced order of song is great they blocked together a few alike and then a totally different tune and song type to break monotony.
Its a good album it has more than 5 songs I actually enjoey and I hate country music but its like an indie country pop rockish kind of music.
Problem is thet its like a triple album with 21 songs definitively 9 too many
ABBA
3/5
Not abbas best. Its cool some great songs but a bit too slow same tune and pitch throught the whole album. Nothing great but cool to sit down and cry. Pretty strong lyrics must have been the end cause you can feel the darkness and the hatred in the lyrics and voice inflections.
Metallica
5/5
This Ive listened over 100 times start to finish was one of my 2 let it run album when in high school along with appetite.
Hardcore fans called it a sell out cause they downed a tempo but the powers reamins the same and to me is a none commercial music album that made it into mainstream and helped spark the whole genere.
Begining with enter sandman was a show stopper and followed by sad but true was absolutely brilliant in a side A with all singles.
I find that it could have used maybe 2 songs less but since it works so well as a whole I could not even think of which ones to pull.
This is a masterpiece and one of the top 5 most important metal albums in history. This was a game changer. Simply mind blowing
Sonic Youth
5/5
The importance of sonic youth has still not been credited as of today a top notch group of musicians making groundbreaking experimental punk rock music while the world was still going string on glam rock and what we know as classic rock.
Kim Gordon Im still in love with, thirston moore still has not been recognized as he should for his guitar and composing skills. Much above everyone elses at the time and probably today.
This is a top album anywhere you put it and its still sounds like it was recorded today and not 35 years ago. Held up and it will for eternity.
UB40
3/5
Although a good album to put at the beach and chill while letting it run. It really is just an album for that.
Pretty good reggae from some English whiteboys who had a strong influence from Bob and made great music with little ways to get more reggae music back in England and they managed to stay loyal to the real thing. Too much dub in this album and gets boring after a few songs if listening deeply to it.
Fun good album good music but not great although it was innovative for Europe and groundbreaking at the time.
Duran Duran
4/5
Surprised by this album. Had not listened to it in its whole since 1980s when I played GIJoe and put tapes while I played for hours on hours.
This was a new sound back when it came out and including lots funk and disco influences speciallynin that instrumental one which I cant remember the name but its amazing.
Its a really good album and I fell in love with it over again. It has 2 songs that are mid thats the reason im giving it a 4
Girls Against Boys
4/5
Had only listened to one song but this is a pretty hard rock solid album. It was surprising and it dumbfounded me at times with their change of pace and how the album was organized.
The United States Of America
2/5
What in the ungodly hell bunch of hippies experimenting with strong acid and playing instuments randomly is this.
Although solid, 20 songs is a bit much even more when its a repetitive tune. 14 would have been better. Not great other bands from this era ara much better.
Didnt dislike it but not top 1,000 for sure.
Mercury Rev
1/5
You know how the Arcade Fire sucks real bad???? Well this is the Arcades Fire Original Gangsta group and they suck as well but with a mix of Republika.
Nothing special about the album very monotonus until the last song but as the song Godess says I know it aint going to last and I couldnt be happier.
Slow mellow depressive album not bad really bit not my jam.
Count Basie & His Orchestra
3/5
All I hear is the Family Guy theme song over and over again. I guess its OK and really good clean musicians but not my thing. Did enjoyed it for a few songs until they all became too similar.
Talking Heads
5/5
This band is one of the most important in history and even thou famous and well known I feel they are still uneerrated. Byrnes knowledge of music history is so vast that his influences on this album come from every genere and country.
They influenced tons of bands and this album is the reason why. An album with 1 single yet all the songs are great and different. Simy amazing
Pavement
2/5
I like pavement and their music but I dont think they any good as musicians they sound lile friends that did their garage band got signed and stayed at the same level. Yet fullfilled their dreams whixh is awesome. Voice is bad a hell but if it were 100% pure 70 punk it would work.
A nice selection and different types of songs was good specially the closer.
OutKast
5/5
Surprisingly awesome. Outlast who were legend before their debut album back in Atlanta show in this debut why the hype for them.
An amazing album from a genere I dont really indulge in. I can honestly say ots one of the best rap albums Ive heard and even thou it was a little long and with to many intros outros interludes they somehow work to help the flow and coherence of the album.
Assuming C-Lo Green was the producer he shows a unique style and approach to general rap and builds an album that breaks barriers of the rap culture cult. The tracks are funky and you dont know what to expect from song to song which makes it great.
Big Boi can rap and Andre 3000 is a gangsta he can flow slow and sometimes quick showing a range not many had recorded at the time. Being a real complete artists and musician his falsettos and aporoach to mix hardcore rap and experimental rap with his towns distinctive sound makes this an unorecedented and top rap album of all time.
Koffi Olomide
4/5
Really likeed thisbalbum and enjoyed it. Although I had NO clue what they were singing about. I appreciated the new sounds rhythym and tempo of the compositions.
It was really needed cause Im getting a lot of albums I own or have listened to in my lifetime.
I feel it was a bit commercial but thats OK. Happy music for clueless listeners like myself.
Public Image Ltd.
4/5
Their first album was too similar to pistols and other pioneers (which the memebers of PIL were part of) and although good as an album it was jist the same music.
This second album they went a bit further and really experimented with new sounds and new wave and its a great concept album with it raw punk roots.
Its a wierd album but musically better and very innovative for the post punk movement.
Liked this one a lot. First song is really bad but the second track makes up for that one
Astrud Gilberto
3/5
Very smooth and easy listening. Song with the kid was kind of bad but otherwise its a cool and well produced. It goes by really fast you kind of doze off and it becomes a perfect background relaxing music.
Beatles
5/5
Not much to critique about the best rock band ever. This is still early and although all the songs are good Im biased cause its my favorite band and I have hesrd every song they ever made and mostly know most of the lyrics.
Not their best but their mid stuff is better than most bands greatest album.
This is not even in the top 5 beatles album and its still a 5 ⭐️
4/5
I have always hated the intro. It actually pushed me away from the album as a college kid. Still I skipped and listened to the first song that I liked and then the singles.
This album doesnt get enough credit (minus tje stupid intro) as ground breaking for the nu-metal genere and a whole generation. Its a really good aalbum and ai was surprised I can still love it as a grown as man. Its kind of a childish teen rant music but its still fun although rebellious at the same time.
The Young Rascals
2/5
Fun album very 60s clearly influenced the monkees and the partridge family. Happy music rock indie psycadelic to the bare minimum. Good musicians. To peace and love and commercial for my taste. Just to think that black sabbath was starting at that same time shows the record was a formula to like to the people.
A Tribe Called Quest
5/5
What we had previously heard the few years earlier before low end theory was gangsta rap with ice-t, 2pac, nwa, eric b and others this was the album that started the movement of experimental rap that lead the way for fugees, wu-tang and other rappers attempting to create a fussion between rap and other generes, styles and cultures.
The smooth jazzy low key relaxing vocals of Q-Tip and the contrasting more hard and powerful delivery of Phife and Jarobi with an extreme influence a knowledge of jazz made this a totally different sound never heard before in rap. De la soul had already had a different approach but this was a jaw dropping album cause the mix of styles simply killed it.
This should be a top 10 rap album of all time. It has not been given the credit it deserves because of the way it changed rap music
Sonic Youth
5/5
A other amazing album. In context there wer enot many bands with this sound at the time and simply really cool and well produced. An underrated band that still needs to be more recognized. Not one single bad song in this album
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
5/5
This is an album that goes under the radar. Its absurdly great like a 5⭐️ great.
I always though tuat we finally had found a successor to the throne left from joan jett and chressie hynde that had been left u filled with a few failed tries to everlasting greatness.
Although the single made it to the top of the charts they left this amazing group in the cold after this album, when they should have gone all in.
Great voice, grest sound, great producing, very original style, good writing, simply a very well put album that doesnt get the credit it deserves. I had not realized it was this good until today.
The Temptations
3/5
Pretty good I liked the vibe. A bit outdated and sinilar tracks bit still you can tell its just awesome musicians in their confort zone.
R.E.M.
5/5
I think this is their best album although ot had no huge single that I can remember off the bat.
Solid composing and very clean sound with great guitar player mike mills yet the instruments are complementing michale stipes amazing voice.
You can actually feel hos emotions in every single song. Very solid album.
Raekwon
3/5
Rawkwon is a Master MC. Amazing flow and writing skills. Unfortunately he was one of the best out of all the rappers rapping the same style and way.
I love this album but its not innovative or stands out from others from the same era. Great rapper but just similar to the genere at the time.
Good album to listen
Elvis Presley
3/5
Im simply not am Elvis super fan. Ots always nice to hear and good music but kind of outdated to me with some exceptions. Album is ok but nothing special for me. He has better ones.
John Lennon
4/5
This dude is simply one of the best ever. Not only a Beatle but jad a successful solo career as well as his side projects and gigs. He had the privilege of being able to choose anyone and they would all say yes in a hearbeat.
This Album is insane. Only a Beatle could do ballards, country and blues in the first half and get away with it. Album is short and almost perfect. I would have placed Imagine as either the last song of side A or last song of the album.
I dont want to be a soldier should have been a single cause its an amazing song very true and powerful. Clearly it was not played. Album is a lottle too slow paced for me bit that was John’s strenght powerful lyrics and themes clear to understand for anyone who was listening.
I give this an easy 5⭐️. Could have been better order but works either way. Id love to hear the songs that didint make it Im sure there are some gems there as well.
Must listen album
The Beau Brummels
2/5
Is this country ?
Is this indie ?
Its both. And its not my personal preference. Good music but nothing mindblowing. Its like music from a 18 century movie.
Arrested Development
4/5
Really good album. Better now than whem it came out for me. It was too slow and maybe too social and compasionate talking about not only the the social-political-racial problems at the time but also talked about solutions for them. I was young and into gangsta rap and even thou I liked the singles and purchased it I mever gave it the airplay it deserved in the soundtrack of my life.
Listening to it now is a different thing and mindset understanding better how bad the world is specifically the USA and its social problems which are the same as they were wjen the album was released and 100 years before that.
This was a fusion of rap and funk with indie vibes which made it unique and innovative for its time. Arrested Development have not gotten the credit they deserve in the rap evolution.
Jurassic 5
3/5
Amazing rapping skills and versatility. Low key good rapping not the usual themes they were using back then. A change in the rap scene but never made it big unfortunately.
Nick Drake
2/5
I dont like this type of indie music. Find it boring and although the lyrics are good its not enough for me.
To me its background music while you work or do sonething else.
The Clash
4/5
Great album lots of types and styles of music witha good mixture of ska and reggae and other influence. Well played good order kept me guessing what would pop out next.
Soft Machine
2/5
Not for me.
Progressive experimental jazz. Too long but songs are very predictable once they start so nothing really surprising for me.
I feel that being from 1970 it was sonething new and different for the time and imagine it created quite a buzz but for me Ive seen more like it and the beatles didnexperimenting at its best.
Stevie Wonder
5/5
Stevienis one of the greatest musicians ever and this alhum is irrefutable proof. A masterpiece. Simply breathtaking.
U2
4/5
Really good Album sometimes I cant pick between this one and joshua tree. Only one mehhh song but the strong start with mt favorite U2 song Sunday Bloody Sunday makes you stay tunned as this song is powerful and simply insanly good.
They dont do albums like this anymore.
FKA twigs
1/5
Wouldnt be in my top million.
After Portishead came out all this after is meh.
Slow electronica is NOT my jam.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
1/5
Mom Im gonna be a rock star.
Lets form a garage band
No one will sign us
It dont matter they dont understand our music
Lets record our own record and produce it cause no producer will understand our sound.
Bring his guitar hero band mates and records and puts this out.
You know when you see sonething really sloppy and crappy and say my 6 year old can do that better well he probabaly can.
This to me qualifies as performance art more than actual music. I understand that in the late 60s the hippie craze was huge and they were looking for new fresh sounds and some crazy 💩 was recorded and released. This is one of them.
Otis Redding
5/5
And in an unexpected turn of events, Otis Redding just became one of my favorites.
The passion the voice the flow, this album is brilliant with covers of top hits at the time that were very risky for an artist. The air section amd guitar player are insane, crisp clean sound.
Ive listened to Otis singles but mever a whole album. This was amazing I can definitively work with thos for mornings and at anytime honestly.
Must listen and must add to any playlist
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Not my type of music but thos album was amazingly great. I have it but never listen to it like I did today. The songwriting is really good and although its countryish and indie it really is rock as well a great balance of generes.
It a solid album very well produced.
Lambchop
2/5
This is not my thing for sure. Didnt like any song although producing wise the album is good and makes sense.
N.W.A.
5/5
This album changed my life and it was a main influence on me as a teen. I was into Ice-T and Public Enemy discovering social injustice rap along with Rage against the machine. Understanding the world we live and how minorities are bullied and abused over a century+
This screw everything I aint affraid to fight or speak up got my pokitical views in order to what I am today.
Absolutely top 10 rap albums ever
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
5/5
I dislike Nick and his music but objectively speakong amd judging this CD is a masterpiece. Very well written its pretty twisted and amazing.
I dont like his voice or slower songs bit thos one had a pop to it a spark in the tempo.
Very good and he earned this 5 start with flying colours
Kanye West
5/5
Simply WOW. I dislike Ye, his public life which aint my problem and his conspiracy theories have put me off on him and his music has suffered from this.
Having said that this album is a masterpiece that every old schooler gen xer should listen and have on rotation. Definitvely works better as an album over singles. Flawless and the producing is breathtaking top of the class sampling.
I hate that I have to love this
Justice
1/5
Same song over and over. One continous song that sounds like its restarting again and again. On different one that I think was the single.
These are soundtwck music for fight scenes or raves at movies. Not to sit down and listen. Fail
Elvis Costello
5/5
I ised to not like Elvis Costello when I was a kid in the 80s they would play his stuff every now and them in Puerto Rico he was not as big but I only liked a handfull of songs over time. I looked at him and he looked goofy and like a character created based on Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly.
Now as am adult Im really into his music and his albums as wholes are amazing. Just clean fun pop rock musis for everyone with songs the length of a punk song. Very unique style and good writing. I listened to this 2 times in a day. Would have mever listened to it as an album if it werent for this initiative.
Everyone should have some costello in their playlists. Everyone.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Good album but I have heard for so long its one of the best ever that it just doesnt live up to the hype. I lime it dont get me wrong and the last stretch is amazing with mrs robinson and hazy shades (which the bangles covered and made it better.)
Great songwriting and pretty innovative stuff for the time.
Blur
4/5
Surprisingly good. Very varied I was surprised at the quality of the music.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
Franks voice is always good to hear. All songs are same tone and tempo but they are somewhat special in a way.
I dont feel thos works as an album cause there are 15 songs and they are basically the same but since one is good all others are good as well.
It just gets a bit boring and repetitive after the 5th songs. Still Sinatra has a great soothing voice and a great delivery.
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
There is just something about Jimi. His voice deep but perfect dictation and his snooth guitar playong vrry innovative and unique to this day. Experimental yet true to blues. Its just so diferent to all other shit happening at the same time. But what always surprises me is the drummer that dude is sooooo underrated and amazing.
Kate Bush
1/5
I thought the deal with god was for her to become rich and hit the charts and afterwards to retire up a damn hill in the Foula Island in Britain.
Unfortunable they used her song in Staranger things and now we have to listen to her again after successfully taking her crappy music of the airwaves.
Was a 0 in the 80s still a 0 for me. Despise her voice.
The Specials
3/5
Good music probably new in the 70s for England. Had only heard 2-3 song before and obviously ghost town. But mice rythm and even thou I dont love ska pr 2 step this is a solid album. A little too long 24 songs its a lot but the nature of slow tempo ska is long songs so good for their genere.
Moby
1/5
Im not or have ever been into electronica misic ogerall bit thos album was a gamecjanger as it hit the airwaves and got on top of the charts. Got hammered with it as they tried to push the genere. I can say I started digging into the genere after this album came out and I wondered if there could be another playable album of that genere. There were not many for me. A group of my friends did have a short molly swallowing acid tripping raveish moment and I had to put up with all that crap. Drugs I didnt mind much but the crappy music that came with it was horrible.
Album is slow and boring great for reading or sleeping. Some good sampling form blues and jazz music but thats about it. Not a fan of this. Took me all day to listen to ot again.
Giant Sand
3/5
Dont really know hownto rate this. Was cool and experimental and really well produced but too long and maybe not my favorite musoc but objectively it is a great album
4/5
Really under appreciated band they were there for the transition of pop rock british invasion to the harder rock and were an integral part of that change. They dont get the credit they deseve ans Davis is a top notch guitar player as well. This album you can see the late stages of the pop rock amd see the newer harder guitar riff coming up.
Really liked the album maybe a bit too long with over 20 songs and some are too popish for the others that are in the album. Im giving it 4 cause it could have been more rockish. The Beatles influence is undeniable but they did manage to do it in their own fashion
Muddy Waters
5/5
Pure blues. I had never heard a lot of songs of Muddy but understand hos importance in music as well as his insane guitar playing talent.
This was mindblowing to me as of today. Had not heard an album of his completely and this was just perfect. Heard it twice not one single flaw. Tje sound was crazy for the era and the recording quality is outstanding. Great musicians and production. Im in awe
Talking Heads
5/5
Simply one of the most original and influencial band ever. The only song I didnt like and think it was just put by force was the last one all other is perfct
The Mars Volta
4/5
Amazing band a bit toooo experimenal. Their crazy fussion of salsa and progressive rock is very unique taken from the carlos santana playbook and making their own thing.
The salsa songs are insanly great but the sound experimental ones are sometimes too long and too paused for my personal liking.
Production wise its a great album even thou I dont feel its their best one.
Black Sabbath
5/5
This is what blew up Metal as a genere. This albums importance is priceless. The most important album of Metal and still one of the very best
Deep Purple
3/5
Good band always. Pretty consistent and reliable for hard rock. Personally although they are amazing musicians the showing off in every song and constant screaming takes a little bit off for me.
Album is good but the screamming is simply too much by the first half.
Haircut 100
5/5
Had never heard of thisbgorup ever in my life. Loved it and was in awe with this album smooth running well produced raw beginning of New Wave mixed with brit pop.
Really good as in I still can’t believe I had never heard their music.
Wire
5/5
Wow thos album was so hard to find before streaming and iphones. Could never find it but first time listening to all the songs in their order and its just beautiful. Love it, this album is very important for the development of post-punk and influential to all the most important bands of post-punk, new wave and other generes.
Songs are short amd sweet very clean punk and clear lyrics its like punk but cleaned and shinny.
Really really good
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Caught me off guard. Expected same music and ot was sharp, well recorded and no errors. Songs were long but didnt felt like it and had only 7.
Now I feel like Ive missed out all this time on Curtis and didnt explore enough only being fed Barry, Sam and Marvin on my country’s airwaves.
I feel robbed of this music in the soundtracknof my life
Pet Shop Boys
3/5
Of a mehhh genere that I used to dance but never listened at home or elsewhere, because it music to dance. Years later I actually heard it as a 20 something year old college suffering existencialist and saw and understood how goods the lyrics are on these songs.
Emo before emo. All sad and shitty love songs of a heart broken person who sings to heal and try to fe tout of that depression by going out and enjoying life instead of staying home and wanting to die.
Solid album woth flawless trnasition from song to song which actually was inpressive as some are very diferently paced than the others. 2 massive hits which still hold up and a really good supporting cast of songs. Only one song that I dont love.
Neil Young
4/5
As much as I dont really love neil or indie, I have to say objectivly this album is near perfect and will be added to my rotation. Maybe not as an album single songs may not work the same but this album is a masterpiece much better than harvest.
Nice mix of 7 songs balanced perfectly between rock, indie, country and blues.
Wilco
3/5
Indie NOT my thing. First song put me off right off the bat so other seemed weak.
Some are coolish catchy tunes but nothing yells great to me and I live in Chicago and they are huge here and have a huge following but nothing that really attracts my attention.
Tweedy has a cool voice for this type of music and the songwriting is pretty good. Overall good album though, just not my favorite genere.
It has some radiohead influences in there with trippy sounds and I understand it was something new at the time for this crowd
Van Halen
5/5
This is one of the best if not the best heavy metal album of all time in my book. Remember when my older brother used to play the shit out of this record. He would let it play, both sides.
The intro to Running with the debil was spooky to me as a lid that sound I had never heard before and the when Michael Nathony drops that bass line is just one of those wow music moments which are just a few in life. After the first song Eddie Van Halen drops the nastiest solo on Record in Eruption and simply just blows your mind as it was 100% sure at the time you had not heard anything like this before.
The best debut album ever and including a cover that was just a masterpiece overtaking the originals impact for ever.
Having a handsome crazy leadsingers who has to be regarded as one of the best rock frontmans ever, an insanly top notch drummer, one of the best bass players, composers and backing vocalist with the best guitar player ever is a recepie for success.
The mix of punk and hard rock with the sound of Eddie’s guitar god sounds and how the killed the live performance made them instant legends and this album started what turned out to be the begining of the careers of one of the best if not the best hard rock band in the USA and probably the history of recorded music.
White Denim
4/5
Surprised with this great band a fussion of a lot generes mixed extremly well. I will add to my playlist and listen to their other albums. Im sure they will be really good.
Michael Jackson
5/5
There is a reason why this is on of the best selling albums of all time. Simply a perfect flow and superb production and this dude is one of the musicians ever.
Althougb Ive always felt its perfect today I didnt loved 2 songs cause they bring the feel of the album down too much and then it comes up again to finish with a bang.
Even the none hits are great. Masterpiece
Lorde
4/5
Wow just wow. Have mever been a fan until today. Thos is a beautiful album great composing amd writing all songs are chronological and have to do with the story she is telling. This is what an album should be, didnt realized they still made these.
Incredible how I dont feel any song is outstanding on its own but as an album it is a masterpiece. Easy to listen to
Didnt know or had heard one single song so glad I got to listen to it. Will put in my heavy rotation. Her voice sounds great. Only critique is that the pace is too slow for my taste but thats a personal. Its like a story line.
Heaven 17
3/5
Understanding its early 80s ots cool for the time, dont think the music hold up. Most songs sounds like an 80s montage of a romantic comedy. I can see eddie murphy in beverly hills cop with any song.
Its not bad for being brit pop and early synth pop it most have been great back then. Follow up acts were much much better but these guys paved the way for the better stuff so respect must be given at all time.
Fu songs, happy songs but they lack something I cant pin point. The over use of the synth although part of the genere it gets boring.
Still a strong 3 for the original music and for making something different at the time.
The Doors
5/5
A unique band that has their own stuff going on. Its poetry with great musical notes as background music.
I love this album short and sweet as well as great lyrics. 2 super famous singles but might ne underrated as an album. Although it doesnt have my favorites songs of theirs here this is the best album they released in my opinion.
Morrissey
3/5
Start by saying I love the Smiths. I feel Morrisey as good as he was as the lead singer in the smith his solo music is missing that johnny mars sound and spark. The album is good but too repetitive and his voice alone kind of the same over and over.
Good voice and good lyrics but not as good as the smiths. Still a good album you can sit down and listen to.
Nirvana
5/5
What to me is one of the greatest unplugged albums ever if not the top 1, I kind of feel its cheating cause it a live amd they select somgs from all albums. Fortunately they chose an amazing set list that suits the unplugged performance.
The fact that the recording is clear and not sloppy as they were makes you appreciate the subtleness in his voice and how good it could be when used as the main vehicle in their music. Being able to see how kirst and dave interacted as a band on stage when they were doing something they knew was more important than just playing for teens and altered mind stated people fucked up out of their minds is awesome and there was chemestry even when you can tell Kurt was the leader of the group.
Really good album and a cover that is better than the original in Man who sold the world. Playlist was chosen very carefully to make the best out of each song and the acoustic arrangements for some were even better than their recording session version.
Overall this is a masterpiece as an album.
Pantera
5/5
This bamd started at the same exact time as Metallica. Rougher and more hardcore they are idolized and this album might be a strong reason why.
Metallica was a bit less metal and had catchier music. Much better musicians than Metallica and their piers. These guys were the truest metalheads.
This is a gem and a staple of metal history a must have for any rocker.
Method Man
2/5
As much as I love Method and Wu-tang this album lacks some punch. I feel it is the beats and producers fault cause the lyrics are insanly great.
I own this CD and heard it a bit but never got into it.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
3/5
Been trying amd althogh music is good and easy listening I jist camt feel they are great. Just am above average band.
Everyone should listen once and then move on the better stuff
Lupe Fiasco
2/5
Lupe is a Fiasco.
Very overrated, the crescendo beats with classical music and jazzy trumpets I found vague amd not very good.
Difffent rapping an a few cool songs but eeffinitively NOT a Album you can’t live without. Very repetitive overall. Great musical guests amd featurings.
Liz Phair
4/5
Surprised by this album. Id like a few of her songs but she is a full amazing artists more than just a few hits. This album is really good short and varied songs with really good lyrics.
Im a new fan of Liz
Blood, Sweat & Tears
1/5
Took me blood sweat and tears to finish this album.
I just dont see their “greatness”.
Aretha Franklin
5/5
Wow amazing at loss for words. The pain. Dont know how she did this but I felt that shit in my heart
Magical voice, amaizing feel, great song order, simply a masterpiece Ive never heard before
Beck
5/5
As of today one of my top all time albums.
Different, daring, fresh, all songs surpsises not one sounds like any other, a masterpiece only one single I remember, beck is a genious and should be treated like rock royalty.
Hookworms
3/5
Pretty good I liked it. Music had already been done. Yet still cool they keep up after 40 years and keep doing it right
Miles Davis
5/5
Love this album
This is the good shit
The Stooges
5/5
Iggy rules. Good punk and pretty innovative and creative. Iggy voice and delivery are unique
Spiritualized
1/5
Horrible.
808 State
2/5
Its alright nothing great. Its a continuation of 80 commercial pop new wave. Well executed, fun and cool to know someone is still keeping the genere alive 50 years later.
But being it instrumental sounds more like fillers in a mix between pet shop boys and erasure songs.
Alanis Morissette
5/5
One of my most played albums in my college years. Still holds up And songs make more sense to me know than they did back in college.
This album helps me cry when I need to and helps me feel better that Im not as fucked up as alanis.
Dire Straits
4/5
Really good album. Short and sweet with more than a few singles. Pther songs might not be radio friendly but feel great as part of the album and its flow.
The Jam
4/5
Came first and were better than morrissey. Paul weller is the original new wave king.
What was ground breaking at the time and it still holds up. Amazing album very smooth transitions and great fluidity.
The Band
3/5
Kind of impressed. Had never thought much of the band because they are soft rockbut thos album was a great surprise. Very chill easy to listen, very well produced and song order flowed like wine.
Cool to put as background on a camping trip or something like that. The slow falsetos songs didnt do it for me.
Miriam Makeba
4/5
We dont hear enough of her although she has that voice and control of it.
Dont know many songs and probably heard only one before in my life but know her from reading about the Balck Panthers and Harry Belafonte as she was a political force that raised her voice against injustice. She was blackballed in the USA and ended he "international" career. That I know from books but never heard her music which is really good and you can tell its a 50-60 vibe. Specially when you hear where they got the lion sleeps tonight hope she got her dues. All of the 90s Disney songs were taken from her as I can hear.
Beautiful voice, good arrangements, good recording, different languague but anyone can understand pain in others voices. Amazing but which I knew her native tongue to understand or even sing along.
PS charles coleman singlehandedly destroyed a beautiful song called one more dance. Horrible
Digital Underground
3/5
I used to love this album cause back in the day there were not many rap albums. Today I find it repetitive and lacking substance. Fun to hear and brought back good memories
Madonna
3/5
As much as I dislike electronica, pop and dance music, I have to say this album is very good. Madonna reinventing herself after years of domination and fussioning a ton of different generes to make this experimental album which turned out to be better than ever expected.
Dont love any specific song but after listening to it in order without interruptions I can say its a top Madonna album and probably top of that genere.
This rates high because of the context of Madonna having to bring something new and different to the table and she brought it. The slow songs kill the vibe mood for me but still those are decent songs.
Santana
5/5
Santanas masterpiece. Superb music and musicians. Great arrangements, great lyrics, overall awesome and runs smoothly.
The intro is mot great bit after that its pure fire.
Dennis Wilson
4/5
In a surprising turn of events Dennis Wilson turned out to be as good as his brother Brian.
This os am excellent album had never hear it before so really pleased.
A little too many slow songs bit thats the mood of the album whomich makes it almost perfect. The last song of the end is sad a fuck and I loved it
Buzzcocks
5/5
Buzzcocks are am underated band thats one of the best to ever to play punk.
Not many have done it better even afterwards. This is a masterpiece of its genere. This was recorded in 1977. This sound was hard, fresh, raw and they did it first amd better.
Radiohead
5/5
Only one minor hit yet this concept album is absolute fire. This is what an album should sound like.
Every song has continuation and the flow is unprecedented. Thisbto my understanding is a mastepiece.
New Order
3/5
OK its a great album. The elegia son I hate cause it interrupts the flow of the album. Thats a producer error.
I would have done a intrumental side and a vocals side as its a dance album it would have worked.
Best 3/4 are intstumental songs which Im not really into for listening at home but work as a dance club music it kills.
Too many bands were playing too much alike when this movement exploded in the scene and they all sound similar. Cure and New Order were the best for sure commercially and as musicians as well.
Elastica
3/5
Good band.
Took a lot from their influences and sound very alike the original punk gods.
Still a good fun album but originalitywise it had alreay been done and better.
Run-D.M.C.
5/5
I think this was my second rap CD ever. There werent many options to choose from and most were softer rap.
The delivery of RDMC was unique and joyful with paly on words that made them diferent. I love this album. Has a ton of singles and only one bad song which is called perfection.
Beats were almost all the same but this was groundbreaking at the time so it will get a free pass.
AC/DC
5/5
The best opening song for an rock album ever. All songs are alike but all are awesome.
This is a staple in any rock collection probably top 10 album ever. Very fresh amd different for the time.
Iron Butterfly
3/5
Its OK and there is definitively NO reason for a song to be 17 minutes long even if its amazing it sucks.
Light rock with a hint of heavy rock shaken not stirred
Peter Gabriel
4/5
Although I love Phil Collins, it was Peter the creative experimental force in Genesis. Once I listened to this album back in the day, I understood why he left in persuit of making different new original music and not go the safe way of commercial pop rocl like Genesis did and later Phil Collins.
I think Phil is a better songwriter and he relies on his lyrics but Peter is more about the sound and music so his arrangements are more unique and difficult. He didnt follow the commercial success formula and went for the musician title. Well earned
Overall a great album very conceptual and experimental yet you can still feel the genesis and Phil Collins influence linger in the music.
Carole King
5/5
Wonderful so easy running album nice mix of originals and covers.
I can definitively add this to my playlist as a whole. Gives a relaxing vibe and sooooo smooth
PJ Harvey
4/5
Surprisingly good album. Had it as a kid but didnt love it, I feel Im older and wiser and can understand its excellence better now.
Great in every sense.
Stevie Wonder
5/5
He might be blind but he can sure write and see better than most musicians have ever seen.
This guy is a top goat. Can write, sing, arrange and the chorus girls are insane the melodies are simply to die for.
He made what seemed to be impossoble possible. He commercialized funk and fussioned it with Blues and RB arrangements and created a new genere for himself.
Its the second album by Stevie that comes up and I cant decide now which one is better. This dude influence everyone and their mommas, maybe even some cats and dogs.
I cant believe how talented Stevie is. National treasure for sure. This album is pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Marvin Gaye
4/5
I like Marvin but Im not a huge fan. Yes his voice is amazing and soothing but its not the type of music I consume much or often.
Great music yes, great album just not my thing.
Kendrick Lamar
5/5
Im not a rap lover only old school stuff usually. I do listen to the mew up amd comers to compare and shit on them and lack of skill or topics.
That being said. This album is the best rap album Ive heard probably ever as an album. I had heard songles but thisbis not an album that you can take a song and listen.
Its a real album with amazing storytelling and chronological order. It wrenches my gut to say it but its a masterpiece.
I like Kendricks music but never a real consumer of it. I looked for his other albums amd listen to them as well and the are on the same level.
Just some crazy producing and delivery. Every human on earth should listen to this.
Ride
2/5
Its the same song all over again. Not good
Stan Getz
5/5
Amazing album. My dad listen to this at home and Id always just stare at the cover which is a painting by Puerto Rican artist Olga Albizu.
This is essily one pf the smoothest and relaxing albums ever recorded.
Soothing voices, same beat for the most part but for some reason the uniform thing works.
Paul Simon
5/5
Very good album, after growing up hearing this was always one of the best albums ever I think now its a but overrated but its still an amazing album.
Growing up in Puerto Rico this sound is part of our music, naturally an american singer took it and showed the american masses what it was and how it could be incorportated in american folk and experiment mixing cultures perfectly. I still think is great and his best album thou. Maybe not a great deal to me bit I understand the cultural importance of the album.
Surprisingly good. Wierd to see a british band dominate the southern USA rock vibe. Good music, flowing vocals fron Rod Stewart just a good album all around.
Bebel Gilberto
3/5
After listening to stan getz a few days ago thisbis not even in the same ballpark. Its meh just an ok album wwith great soothing relaxing music but nothing special
David Bowie
5/5
Amazing album. Thebobly thing I really didnt like was the title song. Skipped it as a kid and didnt like it at 48 either. Still the music and the uniqueness of Bowie makes this album one of my favorites of him. The aura of the crescendo on the songs make it seems like the world is going to end and all songs are like a victory party. This may have been by the fact that hos previous album made him famous amd rich and this album is much heavier and you can hear deeper influences by english rock bands including a rolling stones cover and by the american music of the time. Its a great fussion of to worlds that melted perfectly.
Pixies
5/5
What I consider a gem of punk from the 90s. Has aged extremely well and I think its better today than it was when I was in grade school.
Amazing producing, order, recording, clear sound. Just one of the greatest post punk albums ever
The Velvet Underground
3/5
To me Velvet is pne pf the most overated bands in music history. Absolutely nothing I can feel is special or sets them apart from the bunch.
They are good but not what old people say about them just like greatful dead.
The Who
4/5
Always though the who is a bit overrated because although great music and musicians in my opinion (and Im a fan), I think they were a live band to see more than an album to listen to (exception of Tommy).
Everytime I listen to them I am proven wrong, cause I like them more and more every year. This although short album its very powerful and heavy, you can here their live magic and the public witnessing the concert.
They have to be talked in the greatest rock bands ever. Moon was a force and Pete is a bonafide genius.
Muddy Waters
5/5
The definition of OG blues. Insane album. Not one bad song, flows like wine in the village of santo poco.
When I think of blues thisbis what comes to mind.
Sebadoh
5/5
Completely blown away. Had heard 1 song back in the 90s and thought they lacked that hard metal rock edge or alternative punch as Nirvana and the other guys were hogging the airwaves.
They deprived us of a great side band which kicks ass. They are like a indie rock nirvana. Great songwriting amd arrangements and love the experimental aspect of the band.
A surprising 5 stars for me and an add to my heavy rotation.
Dr. Octagon
5/5
Great concept album taking psychadelic rap to new hights. Although the beastie boys had done it in their album pauls corner and a tribe called quest after them. The definitive psych rap album has to be black sunday by Cypress Hill. That is the album that keeps on giving and was followed by temple of boom which is also in the top 3 ever. B-Real followed with his side project psycho relam from the soul assasins and killed it there as well.
That being said this album is absolutely fabulous and deserves to be a top rated psych rap album. Maybe a bit to close of sound to Cypress but if you gonna do something great, make sure to borrow your influence from the best to ever do it
Suede
4/5
Good sound
Way to similar to the smiths
They killed when they released the album. I think they needed theor own sound but didnt get it till a few albums in
Pink Floyd
5/5
Some people say this is one of the greatest album ever recorded and all other who dont think that are just plain wrong.
Iggy Pop
3/5
As mich as I love iggy in his stooges days, I feel this lack his raw lower and energy. Also a big front man music without visuals are not as great. After seeing him live I understood that sometime the music and the performance make the whole thing better.
This is one of my least favorite iggy albums caise its slowish and not as heavy. Kind of pop-punk instead of post-punk.
New York Dolls
4/5
A pretty good CD by a very mediocre talent band. Fin amd cool to see as a novelty in the 70s punk scene and david johanson a good frontman this album is very good and one everyone must listen although its not great
2/5
Somtething different and although good its not life changing music. Good musicians and instrumental songs are very good. I just cluldnt get into it, maybe its just not my type of music.
John Grant
1/5
What the hell is this 💩
Buena Vista Social Club
5/5
I grew up listening to salsa. This is a modern cuban group that keeps it as real as it can get.
Doing 40s music and staying clear of progress of the genere. Its world music and has all the jazz, el son, danzon, bolero, salsa and quartet music being released in the late 90. Its like going back in time.
Simply an amazing acheivement for modern music.
Leftfield
2/5
Repeat after me:
No intrumental electronica album should be anywhere near a best album ever list.
This having had listened to John Prine the shein version of bob dylan who doesnt belong in this list either. I also had to sit through Moby whoch at least is better
Pearl Jam
5/5
The greatest album of the grunge era. Has aged better than fine wine.
All hits, made me a fan of the scene and a die hard pearl jam fan.
This is a perfect album that all humans must listen to and own. Its a rite of passage
Björk
3/5
I respect Bjork for making unique creative experimental music which I always like but Ive never loved.
A few have been amazing but just not my thing.
Albums is good and she is an artist more than anything else full complete artist.
fIREHOSE
4/5
Great album
Very creative
All songs diferent
A lot of generes
Pretty surprising
Only thing I didnt like was the lead singers voice. Bit thos album rocks and its very well produced
Bob Dylan
3/5
As much as Ive tried amd Ive listened to all hos discography I just dont like Dylan.
He can write yes, can he sing hell no he sounds like a chipmunck being castrated when hebtries to hit the high notes he shouldnt be even trying.
Good songs overall, original sound, great lyrics but foll aint my type of music and I find songs to be too similar to each other.
If it werent for John Prine he would be the worse. I really feel and like much more paul simon yet I cant stand him.
Napalm Death
1/5
This is dog 💩. Clearly not a 1001 album or a 5,001 album.
Its just a show off of musicians just playing the same chord over and over again as fast as they can with a dog barking uninteligeble nonsense.
This is a niche rock genere but very slim and small for a reason.
28 songs all about 45 seconds long. No one can withstand the accelerated pace of instrument playing for more than that amount.
Still impressive speed but not impressive music. Death metal is NOT for me.
Eric Clapton
5/5
Definitively a must listen to. I dislike Clapton as a person and have met hom more than 5 times. Not a nice dude. Other than that, he is sinply an amazing musician and producer. His arrangements are pretty wild, impressive, original and creative.
The flow of the blues guitar flow is unparalleled. All songs have a commonsound that ties them together except one at the end. Masterfull sound and clean guitar licks.
Clapton is god.
Public Enemy
5/5
The rap album that changed my life. This is when I realized how powerful music can be and it can be used as a weapon and to create social conscience on issues.
Chuck D is a national treasure and still have not gotten his dues. This group is top notch and the message is clear and surely makes white people in power be affraid.
The intro is a sample galore with Terminator X just killing that mix and scratch demo. It makes you want to stay and sit, listen to whats about to come out of that speaker.
Fight the power is still very relvant and so is fear of a black planet and 911 is a joke. Its simply a top 20 rap album of all time without a doubt.
Arcade Fire
3/5
Second album of this band. First one was absolute crap and gave it 1 star.
Surprisingly this album is really great and well produced flows perfectly. Lots of great musical influence heard in this songs. Gotta say I now dont hate this band.
Gotan Project
5/5
First time I heard this lounge mix of tango at an argentinian restaurant it blew my mind.
Find its a genius way to revive a local music culture genere and remaking it for speak easy and to find a new market with younger generations.
I think its amazing and all songs flow perfectly not missong a beat makong this an exceptional well produced and arranged album. Songs may not work individually but as an album this is gold.
Motörhead
Thelonious Monk
4/5
When you have never heard the name but you have heard some songs then You know its a serious thing
Had never heard this band name ever and yet had heard 2 songs out of 6 on this album.
Beautiful sound the classic definition of jazz. Easy listening great flow, a song a bit too long and the last song finished abruptly with the musician speaking which kind of killed it for me on the 5 stars.
If you want to relax this is a must listen.
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Surprised by this album as a whole had only hear I song as a single becuase its not the music I listen to but this album was big surprise.
Aguilera which I feel has the best pop voice along with Beyonce gives us a flawless record with a vocal range that can compete with anyone in history.
I find the first half of the album too similar to beyonce in style but still is amazing to listen and the transition from song to song is absolute perfection. The second part of the album is pure perfection. The jazz big band vibe and the lyrics are superb. First half pop album which sounds generic pop killed the chance for this album to be a 5 star but 3.5 is my final score
The Band
3/5
Very surprised by this album.
I can honestly say its one of the few southern rock music Ive liked ever.
I like them better than Lynard.
Great album not loving the voices but overall solid.
You should listen to this
Rahul Dev Burman
2/5
Not my thing. Its hindi but has a pop american culture kind of appeal. Like it was produced for a wider audience. Its not bad but just not my cup of tea.
Sarah Vaughan
2/5
Of the 3 big ones, Im team fitzgerald. Love billie and have never really gotten to like Sarah's voice for some unknown reason.
This Album is great as she sang the best songs and displays mastery of singing and her voice which has a wide range. Great album better than others I had heard. Soothing voice, clear vocals. Great arrangements.
I just dont love her as I do Ella and Billy. I do get their importance for music history in context and how they were the pioneers of all we have today.
Common
5/5
Before this album to me Common was just a good rapper but never really liked his flow or producers arrangements, enter Kanye West who 100% produced and arranged the beats for the tracks.
Common finds a beautiful flow where you can listen to the lyrics be above most rappers at the time. A revival of a dying career and a push into another level all at the same time.
This is really one of the best rap albums Ive heard in a lo g time as its sounds biographical life of a black man in america.
Common is a god in Chicago but never had that commercial success like I believe he can specially with this album which is flawless.
Great to sit down listen and think about everyones privileges.
The Dictators
5/5
I discovered this band as a teen. After reading in a Trasher magazine issue that some skater named them in their favorite music to skate to but cant remember who.
Took me years to actually find a cassette of them in Puerto Rico. They were too old and too raw for the stations.
I had never heard a whole album after the 80s until today. Would just have my 2 fave songs in my mix tape. Theor importwnce for the scene and the genere is incalculabe. They are part pf the first generation of punk hard rockers that could actually play and write. They are hardly ever named or mentioned but they are rowdy and loud.
Love this hope everyone hears this album cause its great.
Parliament
5/5
This album is absolutely amazing. Its an invitation to a new musical experience and a trip down a diferent type of music.
Very complex arrangements, insanely talented musicians. A CD everyone has to listen casue the production value is top notch. Its a great narrative album that tales you travelling through their planet.
Im amazed and can easily put this as a top 2 funk album in a heated race with James Brown at the apollo theater.
The Specials
5/5
In what turned put to be a banger I was very surprised by this really really good album. Probably top SKA ever.
The special influence is undeniable and so many of the newer ska and punk bands have so much of their material that its insane. save ferris, no doubt, sublime, even the beastie boys.
This album is a 5 star for me. Didnt even think it would be a 3 but here I stand corrected.
Genesis
2/5
Meh altough a great band with amazing musicians and incredible song writing, this concept album falls short for my taste.
Its a great story but seems more like a music score for play or a musical. Its OK but not their best stuff also it was too long for not great.
The Verve
2/5
I liked them when they came put ut this album is way too repetitive amd has not held up through the test of time.
It sounds like the same song for the first 6 songs. They are good musicoans and band and feel the type of music had not let the band go to fullest of potential.
Sigur Rós
1/5
This shit sucks. No stars
The Coral
The Go-Betweens
2/5
Pleasant album nothing great slow pop indie rock. Well produced and flow of song is very good almost flawless.
Great as background while working or just relaxing. Liked it but not my type of music.
Bill Evans Trio
3/5
Pretty good
Gret sound but today I had a long day and really didnt enjoy this as I should. Kind of listened to it tired and not paying attention so this rating should not be taken seriously.
D'Angelo
2/5
This is a full album of strip club lap dance amd should only be listened to for that purpose
Beatles
5/5
One of the greatest albums ever recorded a must listen for any human. Simply perfection.
The Beta Band
2/5
No matter what the writer of this list says, this does NOT belong anywhere near a top 1000 list.
Electric Light Orchestra
4/5
Much better tjan anticipated. Jeff lynne is an a amazing arranger and composer and even with all he has done he is still not recognized enough
Nick Drake
2/5
He can be a good song writer and musician. But I just can't understand the fascination. He is like a shein version of Bob Dylan who also has the same problem as well as randy newman and probably van morrison. They all sound alike and none of them blow my mind in any way.
Its an above average Album but really nothing special. The best part was the introduccion.
Pulp
3/5
Surprised on this one. I had never given this group a shot and although I had heard a few random songs I didnt really get into those songs so never listened to an album bit this is a very good album although I still dont love them.
The song I liked the least was the single which pushed me away when this album was released.
Glad I had the chance to listen now older and give it a chance and now I can judge it better.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
5/5
As a teenager I refused to like this band. I was into heavy metal and drooling over Van Halen, Ozzy, Zepplin, Floyd and other bigger harder bands.
A girl friend of mine loved this album, she used to tell me you will love it. I was being an ass because it was "country". Little did I know this album would be in my top 200 albums for the rest of my life.
The album is perfect 10 songs all around the 5 minute mark, ordered perfectly by the producer, the smooth rock vibe mixed perfectly with the country aspect makes it something not many had pulled off before them.
This is an absolute masterpiece even if dislike this type of rock.
David Bowie
2/5
Worst david bowie album Ive heard. One song was very good others were the same and meh.
Still love him.
Animal Collective
1/5
When you like the music in the ads better than the actial album you are listining you know tha music is 💩
Death In Vegas
3/5
Wow this was actually pretty good. I dont listen usually to this music but this was good altough long as hell. Good flow easy listening although a bit more strong than the usual
Amy Winehouse
5/5
Just when I was about to give up on music Amy reappeared in my life with this album which I consider to be one of the top 3 in the of the 2010 if not the best album in the past 15 years.
An autobiographical call for help that everyone listened and couldnt do anything to save her. Insane lyrics, masterful arrangements and musicians.
This is a perfect album
Run-D.M.C.
3/5
Good album not their best.
Still easy to listen to and good old school type rap
Small Faces
3/5
Nice album but its just that. I dont see anything special in this 1969 album. All that I hear had alredy been done before and they were just copying other bands and juat combining all.
A few good songs but not great as an album.
Coldplay
5/5
In what is deffinitively their masterpiece a flawless album with no down notes I can point at. Perfect execution and I dont even like this band amd feel they are overrated. This was their first big and last finest moment. Happy it exists
Ozomatli
5/5
I remember when they first started and they were sonething diferent and some of my friends didnt knew what to think of it.
By this album they were already settled down and well respected everywhere.
An amazing meltong pot of cultures they took all and everything from their hoods in LA and made an incredible album with influences from all over the world. In this one they incorporated the middle eastern sound along with salsa, hip-hop, funk, jazz and some other generes simply an amazing feat.
Them talking about activisim and social issues probably didnt help them get on the airwaves just like RATM before them but this album is 5 star album no doubt a must listen to album.
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
Cool album but now it feels that it didnt held up. Very time specific although great as an album with great funk and flow from begining to end.
You can tell it influenced a lot of the 80s artists.
OutKast
4/5
Really good follow up to their debut masterpiece.
Its awesome as its very varied and they can deliver diferent styles and tinings and rythyms. These guys way above the curve at this stage and you can tell Andre 3000 is a musical genius.
Too long but the jazz and instrumental interludes and songs give you a rest and makes it very pleasing. I was gonna rate it a 3 but tje strong finish took me to the 4
Beck
5/5
So refreshing amd original. All songs are a surprise and yet somehow the album works perfectly. A masterpiece by Beck who is one of the greatest minds of experimental rock and top tier musician overall.
Frank Ocean
5/5
Didnt knew who this guy was until my kid put on this album about a month ago and we listened to it. Its a true love and lost love story. You can feel this dudes pain in the songwriting and voice. One pf those wtf moments when you realized there was an album this good and you had never even heard the artists name before yet you become an instafan. Im going to give it 5 stars cause the smoothness of the tracks and the jazz and rap lyrics blend in ways I had not listened to in a while. This guy is real talent.
Beach House
2/5
Its like the worse pet shop boys album on heroin. Super slow super mehhh too indie and too long.
Not my type of music way too predictable and boring
Supergrass
5/5
Wow just wow. A pop punk rock gem. Clear influence of punks best in a fussion with Elvis Costello and other pop rock bands from the 80s
A lot of bands have tried but these guys feel fresh and this album is good since the first chrord strikes. A little bit of ozzy and english metal as well.
Had not listen it in a minute but it holds up and I think they will have a resurgance in 10 years and become bigger than when they first came out.
Amazing album produced by themselves no big producer or lable pushing for commercial hits and these guys delivered hard punk rock and a pop commercial hit.
Slayer
5/5
Fast, raw, hardcore, with rythym, sounds like a sexual thing but Im talking about the music. Insane display of mastering all instruments. This band is loyal to their roots and they could have gone mainstream and vecone billionares like metallicawhen they went pop rock but these guys are true musicians.
Album must be considered one of the top 10 ever metal albums. Only 12 short songs but they are all powerful and the perfect length.
Im a fan and this has been a staple of my metal soundtrack since high school back in the 90s.
Neil Young
4/5
Meh not his best. Its always good cause he is a strong songwriter but music is not my prefered one. Album flows great, really good musicianship.
good album just not better than harvest or everybody knows
The Louvin Brothers
1/5
The religious lord praying bullcrap is definitively not my thing and this is a prayer album
Still at the time Elvis was already out with something new and the platters, fats domino and little richard were rocking hard by then.
Their harmonies are tight thou. Two voices one high another low but great equalizing for a cool sound that at the time might have been diferent
It was a time that music was changing from traditional stuff like this country to rock and roll and this album might be some of the last of its kind so in context it was a good album to depart from that time.
The xx
1/5
Too indie for my taste. Sounds like tik tok music for their stupid dancing videos. If I didnt liked it before I like it much less now
Germs
5/5
Just like every single punk album should sound like.
Raw, hard, pissed, short songs, angry, mosh pit igniter, jumpy,
This is an amazing album for the punk genere. Im giving it a well deserved 5 star rating.
On a side note the guitar player pat smear has the worst luck ever. Germs disbanded after a bandmates suicide and the. He joined Nirvana as a touring memeber and we all know how that ended up.
Eminem
5/5
One of the greatest rap albums ever recorded its was a game changer his storytelling ability and how he connetcs by rapping legibly although fast as fuck while following a coherent line of thinking and chronological order and time stamps.
Know this album top to bottom and back again.
Perfection at its top level.
Michael Jackson
5/5
I forgot how great this was. It would have been perfect without speed demon and librarian girl. All other songs are hit after hit after hit.
But the most impresive thing about the album is the progression and storytelling, common theme in songs (except librarian girl) with tying intros and outros.
Its simply a maseterpiece that everyone should enjoy. Probably top 10-15 album in history of recorded music.
Destiny's Child
2/5
Had a few hits but its far from a top 300 album.
Most songs sound too much alike too repetitive samples, same rhythm and beat mostly. Great use of the harmonies really good voices on all 3 members. Too pop its not for me but I can see the production value and talent on this album.
Most songs they over do the voice show off and it talkes away from the album flow. Looks like who has the greatest voice competition and it doesnt sound natural.
Billy Joel
5/5
Billy is by far the best composer singer from the 80s pop rock era and maybe more.
This album is perfect. All hits, ones that are not hits are awesome, the mix, the sound, the lyrics, the transitions to next song and how it all makes sense.
Top 20 albums ever
Todd Rundgren
3/5
Its background music. Its ok bit too long same song with diferent beats. Love pop rockish ballards. Its like listening to olivia newton john but with the look of a male rock star. Picks up in the last songs butnit was too little too late
Its a meh for me
Lou Reed
5/5
I was never a big fan of Lou until now. Had never heard this album in order or in its entirety. Absolute killer the works not one bad song. Pure fire. Thinking it was gonna be a 3 I stand corrected and scoring it a 5. Nothing like I ever expected I like this more than velvet.
Recomended for all
Mike Oldfield
3/5
The opening song just plains scares me. Its diferent and its great technically, I cant say anything negative but that its too long.
Not my type of music but much better today that when I first listened to it.
Jane Weaver
3/5
It was ok well excecuted but not my type of music. Not great but not bad at all
The Isley Brothers
5/5
Wow had no clue they were so great. Now I can see hpw underrated they are. I feel every singlnsong in this album has been sampled by later artists showing how influetial they are.
Great realx music for a whole let it play in the background sound while you have a drink at home
Everything But The Girl
2/5
Not my music. Nothing special.
The White Stripes
5/5
Simply amazing a great album all songs are diferent influences from troggs, beatles, joan jett and punk and rock from all eras before him extremely well produced.
Probably top 5 album from this era. A masterpiece.
The Style Council
2/5
Sounds pure 80s music evolved and thisbdidnt stopd the test of time. Good album easy to losten like elevator background music.
De La Soul
4/5
As a concept album is simply a 10 but the recording mixing failed. I liked this cd as a kid but I could never love it as the beats were too loud and I couldnt really follow the lyrics.
I know they were young and their and this was their first album but they grew fast into what came after was a top 25 ever rap album. Thos was a glance of their future.
Underrated group and very innovative at the time.
Gene Clark
1/5
Really nothing that stands out. Its a basic country album. All sound similar and if you tell me its another singer I would never know the diference.
There are few country artists I can really recognize essily and this dude aint one of em
Elton John
5/5
What I think is Elton Johns masterpiece. Pace is faster and more rock and rollish. Altough a lot of piano he definitively made the best and made it work for him without losing the rock and roll and adding to it making it kind of unique. With the pianoman Billy Joel pushing towards a more popish rock, elton kept it hard and indie with even a little bit of ska.
This is a once in a lifetime album for the time and place was determining in the place of rock pop genere. Excelent in all aspects a 5 star job
Snoop Dogg
5/5
This album stopped the rap world in ot tracks. After listening to aggressive gangsta rap like ice-t, Cypress Hill and 2pac plus dre came put with the chronic a more laid back gansta rap with less attitude and aggresiveness and had included Dogg to it and all the songs he was featured made the charts.
This was even better cause it was a look at the life of a gangsta rap not only in the gang world but in his daily routine. Showed us nother side of the gang world and how they function around their lifestyle. It helped humanize thug life and their culture. It brought light to other stuff they were into.
Later came bones thugs and harmony and others but this changed the gangsta world and how it was seen through music. Its a autobigraphical masterpiece that will always be relevant to the rap genere
Baaba Maal
3/5
Its a cool album. Not the same thing I listen to everyday so a good change.
Well produced, wish I would understand but musoc is beautiful and harmonies are great. Not for my playlist but I feel it is a great album maybe a little too popish
Ray Charles
5/5
Ray Charles is just too amazing. Simply great music all around no flaws. I dislike christmas themed albums but this one is special its top of the food chain for xmas albums.
Bill Callahan
1/5
Not a top 1,000.
Sound generic and simply nothing special
ZZ Top
4/5
Although not as raw and powerful as Tres Hombres and Tejas that were more blues roots.
I still enjoy this album as it was on heavy rotation all 4-5 singles when mtv was starting out and I saw those videos a billion times and are an essential part of my childhood.
Maybe more poposh and less complicated music but when the 2 same drum beats work why change it.
5/5
I hated Devo as a kid cause I only heard whip it and altough fun I simply thought it was kind of shitty. Little did I know that 40 years later I can say they got done dirty by mtv.
Its one of the most underrated groups in history. I feel they are so versatile and amazing musicians. This album has so much variety and diffent sounds and music.
This is an experimental confept album that even with a cover of the stones its simply breathtaking something really different and fresh still today.
Really insane that it sound better today than I remember back in the 80s.
Elvis Costello
5/5
Great album its everything an 80s album should be. Elvis captured the essence of the decade and simply is a staple of the 80s. All his albums are alike but they are awesome so this one is in the top
Bee Gees
3/5
This where you can understand how talented the bee gees were.
This is a concept album from their 1960s run. Then they evolved into what they are known for. They disco era. But before that they were a regular good band but not very disctinct from others they evolved and left the others behind.
Not great to me but its well done and recorded pretty decent concept albu
But not a story I necessarily got into.
The Temptations
3/5
Fun album that makes you want to get up and dance. Very happy and wind sections are strong. well produced and better than most in this genere
Ghostface Killah
5/5
There are a lot of great rappers out there and ghostface killa is a great one. Amazing MC and one of the best in the Wu.
Although not as good as a wu-tang album because its the same voice and similar flow and style of that era a few great tracks that were surprising but not many.
Found this time around the beats are pretty repetitive and lacking cuts to make them more dynamic. Some good sampling well thought and on the dot.
Very good album maybe one of the best wu-tang members solo project but still the wu-tang goat was method man as a rapper and RZA as a producer
Remember most stuff is temporary but wu-tang is 4ever
Basement Jaxx
1/5
I would never inclued an album like this in a top whatever list. Its ok but just nonsense
The Rolling Stones
5/5
I think the stones are overrated. This is the one album that makes them in my opinion.
Good blues, great riffs, micks voice actially works here but he has a horrible voice.
This album is really good from start to finish. You can feel the blues and how they copied the american music and made them their own
The Rolling Stones
2/5
Not mearly as good as the last one. This is countryish and simply not flowing appropietly.
Micks voice sucks
Al Green
5/5
Smooth and easy listening album. Soft spoken and simply a beauty.
Arrangements are extremly good and Al's voice is soothing.
Short and well thought album that must be a pillar in every collection.
Frank Sinatra
2/5
Its very long, all songs are similar, if you like one you like all. I like all bit dont feel this is a superb album. Just anpther good album that you can let run.
Nothing special
Queen
5/5
Absolutely insane start for the album which lead to a killer single. As loved and good as they are they still dont get enough credit.
This is their second best album in mu opinion whocj would be anyone elses best.
Songhoy Blues
5/5
Amazing album with deep blues roots altough the group being from Africa.
Arrangments are gold fussioning blues with their native african sounds making it sonetthing fresh.
Love it and males me want to learn the la guage to understand it.
Joe Ely
1/5
I dislike country
Thosbis very pop
Not my thing
Dont feel anything was superb
The Replacements
3/5
Good album overall but not great voice of singer didnt meet expectations for some songs and should have been sang by someone else in the band.
Kanye West
4/5
Kanye keeps surprising me every time. I avoided hin cause although his producing skills are amazong and his knowledge of music is vast, I just dont like him. But music speaks louder than idiocoracy and his rants and crap.
This guy is a producing machine and a musical genius. Apart from all the gospel and praying, I understand its part of who he is and his culture. Not my thing but I get hebis pouring hisbheart out in each and every single song he records.
Rush
5/5
This is simply and easily one of the top 10 greatest rock albums ever recorded.
Its perfection on vinyl.
Arctic Monkeys
5/5
Remember when it came out it was super fresh and new and a lot of groups that made it big had followed their style. Amazing and refreshing and still holds up
Red Hot Chili Peppers
5/5
After a few years testing different styles and making their punk-funk fussion style, they finally hit the mother load.
Although I prefer earlier albums personally because of their rawness and singularity, this album marks the balance between their fussion in a way that could be played in radios and commercialized.
This is their best album as they explore deeper themes and they finally get to that boilling point of creativity. Their best album both commercially and as musicians. Frusciantis return was the final piece of the puzzle to launch them into legend status.
Everything is great here, the B-side songs are very good as well. Easily is a great song that never got played.
Probably top 10 album of the decade at hand.
The Incredible String Band
1/5
I dont know what they were babbling about all album long with the same music, but Im hopefull they were able to figure out how to train their dragon.
JAY Z
2/5
Dont understand the fascination with Jay-Z yeah he is a great rapper and great flow but nothing that says goat to me.
Bob Dylan
2/5
Still cant find the fascination with bob dyaln. Very overrated. A few good songs here and there bit nothing great. Hate his voice
Herbie Hancock
4/5
Herbie was ahead of his time. Pioneer of electronoc music mixed with jazz and rap. It was very innovative and its still sounds fresh. Underrated artists that jas a vast significance in music history.
My only issue is that songs are too long bit if they were shorter they would be more listenable day to day
Talvin Singh
1/5
This album has all I hate in one.
Chants
Religous crap
Electronic
This is a 1001 albums you can deffintively live without listening.
Janelle Monáe
2/5
I dont like pop of mostly any kind. Good voice sounded better than usual pop crap but still not to my liking
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Top 100 ever album. Not Led's best yet would be the masterpiece of any of the other 99% of bands in history.
Amazing, innovative, unpredictable and holds up the test of time sounds like if it was recorded last year.
Must listen to any decent music lover.
Pretenders
5/5
Amazing album. I only knew one song and still enjoyed every song. Chrissey is a top notch songer for thistype of "punk" rock. Really underrated and has a real voice with range and versatility to change it for different stuff
Mike Ladd
2/5
Rap concept album.
Tried to mix electronic with jazzy beats but just didnt cut it for me. Its well done but on the mixing you cant really hear the voices and lyrics cleanly.
Ive heard better but Mike Ladd has been an established rapper not much of a top rapper or lyricist but conceptually its solid. Delivery was not the best to me thou. Personal opinion and preference.
Gil Scott-Heron
1/5
The Police
4/5
Side B is a top 10 contender for best side B ever recorded. My brother listened to this albums side B daily for years and I hear it from his room.
Didnt even remember side A. Not the best side but cool yet side B makes this a top 100 album ever
Jeff Buckley
5/5
Impressive the fussion of Plant, Bono, Gavin Rossedale, as the pokemon evolution before Chris Martin.
Great album very unpredictable, kind of borong at first but the last half is amazing. Versatile and a envidiable vocal range. The song eternal life is a must here for every rock fan and should be in everyones playlist
Motörhead
5/5
What a real metal album should be. 12 songs of pure power chords and adrenaline.
Similar songs but like ac/dc if you like one you like em all.
Must listen
Miles Davis
5/5
Simply amazing
5/5
A true creative and innovative unpredictable punk album. Loved it. Better songs are with female singer, lots of influences love the country rock fussion. It was refreshing and its early 80s so very experimental for the time
Neil Young
1/5
One of the most overrate artists ever. Cool but nothing great sound like he was fisted while singing. Horrible guitar player. Good writing thou.
Just bad for me
Donovan
3/5
Really pleasent surprise enjoyed it although a bit outdated. All songs are good. Its a well made album
AC/DC
5/5
Top 5 albums ever recorded
Johnny Cash
4/5
I hate country but this album gets my approval. All songs have the same rythym and sound but the environment and the prisoners reaction gives it another feel.
I have heard the folsom prison one amd I actually like it as well cause it true country rock from Johnny Cash his voice and delivery of this genere are unique.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
3/5
Its just Ok nothing special I can point out.
Fela Kuti
4/5
These are the albums Im doing this challenge for. Stuff Id never listen on my own. I love ginger baker one of my favorite drummers and I keep finding him on another level with world reknown artists not just english speaking and him exploring new music and experimenting and collaborating. Amazing musician that everyone must explore and know
George Harrison
4/5
Objectively its one of his best albums. Production quality is there and altough a few songs contains direct take aways from the Beatles, he successfully cut clean from the beatles formula and created his own language in his first solo shot.
My only issue is that this is a gospel album and he is going on about god and his love and all that which is NOT my thing.
But has quite a few good singles that made it to air play world wide which is impressive even more when its not of the catholic faith showing how good his music and influence were amd are to the world.
Oh and the song art of dying is absolutely insane. Must in any playlist
Various Artists
4/5
Probably the best xmas album ever. I dont like christmas songs but production wise this is amazing.
If you must hear something christmas other than mariah careys song this has got to be it.
Kind of odd being from phil spector who later killed a woman and all that crap.
Killing Joke
3/5
Its OK but sound like one continious song too repetitive and same voice. Simply didnt do it for me.
Michael Jackson
5/5
Its the best selling album in history for a reason, flawless victory.
Fairport Convention
1/5
Although staying true to the English folk roots, I just found it boring and repetitive and same tone. Only song that really popped to me was cajun woman which was upbeat and broke the monotony of the album.
Not good for me
Emmylou Harris
3/5
Good singer all around
Good music
But nothing amazing its a good album objectively but never a 5 star one
Oasis
5/5
This could be easily top 10 best albums of the 1990. Simply perfect from top to bottom.
Song order is superb. The way the album is heard its like a story and the up amd downs of love
Madonna
5/5
Always loved like a virgin album cause it was the one I grew up listening non stop in the mid 80s but hearing this now I stand corrected as this is a masterpiece with a story with issues around forbiden love and religion and having to deal with it.
This is Madonnas finest work more mature, more serious and with a lot to prove at that point. There was little room to reach further and she delivered.
The Lemonheads
3/5
Meh. Its just another band. Sound is generic to the era. Nothing really special just influenced by the earlier better groups of the same style. Its not bad, actually liked it but not original or diferent at all from the bands before them
Ryan Adams
5/5
A beautiful masterpiece. Im not into folk or country pop bit this album is absolutely a diamond. I loved it and the storytelling was great I suffered what this dude was all sappy about. I hate whoever did Ryan dirty.
Rush
5/5
Amazing album. All songs are perfect, still not their best album and would be anyones #1.
Overture belongs to a museum as a masterpiece of modern music. Its long but it passes by real fast the transitions to next part are all insanely well done you can hardly tell.
Alexander 'Skip' Spence
3/5
The most depressing country Ive ever heard. Sad saggy slow but you can feel the dudes voice doing it difere tly than regular country and I kind of dig it.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Although a good album, people say it their best work. I feel the stones are overated and after their blues early days have only made a few good songs although they have released 20 albums.
They are like the british aerosmith in terms of career. Great at the beginning, some really crapp y stuff, a few good hits 20 years after, a lot of crap after those few hits.
They are really good live and they ha e great energy, but the music overall is meh.
This is one of the best albums but I dont think its the best.
Nick Drake
3/5
I dont get the indie crowds going crazy for this guy. He can write and music is good but not anything oit of this world. To me is mid at best the 2 albums I have gotten here
William Orbit
1/5
No electronic album should bebin any top list.
The Cure
5/5
Insane how I used to hate this album as a child cause of the intro and the instrumental songs in the middle but today I heard this with older and wiser ears. This is now on my top 80s album list. Simply a masterpiece that I misjudged as a middle school kid
Don McLean
4/5
Its a pretty good album maybe a bit to similar the songs with exception of everybody and american pie which is legendary and still holds up. Album llays well slow and folky which os not my thing the song Vincent I feel is a hidden gem of a song had to listen to it twice. Its very simon and garfunkle sound like melodywise and rythymwise. Still enjoyed it even though I dont love thos genere so that means its a good album
Stevie Wonder
4/5
He is so good, all songs are great and the tone sets the mood for the album. I dont necessarily love when he uses his deeper voice and the slower more depressive songs over his happy happy joy joy positive love songs.
Although not my favorite album of his I do think objectively its a great album from all angles.
The Stone Roses
2/5
Mid band and not great at all. Album is Ok makes. Never been into this band cause I fell they are bland and too popish.
Country Joe & The Fish
2/5
Mediocre at best very alike the door but not that great. Easy listening thou good flow
Beatles
5/5
One of the greatest albums of all time probably top 5. The beatles are the best band ever period and they have no bad albums even the earlier stuff is great.
This album has variety and beautiful harmonies that no one will ever match.
Buuuuuuuttttt..... the last song Run little girl is a chauvinistic patriarchal song that didnt go with the narrative of the album yet they added cause its a good song although horrible message.
This one didnt age well. I still love the song and the album is perfect with the ups and downs including country.
Simply an amazing perfect combination.
John Martyn
4/5
Really good Album. Never heard of him before and I was very surprised by the quality overall of the concept album. I dont love his voice thats it. The slow folk songs although not my preference thay make a diference in setting the tone and help the albums flow.
Pink floydish songs are really good
Sugar
3/5
Its an above everage album nothing special
M.I.A.
5/5
Mia is a game changer. This album is very underrated commercially but you can tell how many artists she influenced when this came out. From Taylor Swift, Kate Perry, Rihanna, Minaj, Cardi B and other recent superstars.
This album is a melting pop of music and culture from Sri Lanka, England, American, European it has freestyle with hip hop, old school rap and a bit of dancehall. She made sure to cover all the bases and fussion the generes like rice and beans at a puerto rican chinchorro.
Really impressive and unexpected makes this a 5 star album. Pure talentand energy
Bruce Springsteen
5/5
I have never liked Bruce I mean he is Ok but cant figure the fascination with him. As a kid hear this album and the hits on radio more than enough.
Today I listened to this masterpiece with fresh ears and wiser years. Wow what an album. Storytelling with order from start to finish with ups and downs to emphasize in the ups and downs of regular working class joes lives.
Id never thought Id say this but this album is one of the best of the 80s conceptually
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
1/5
The first album in I year I could not finish. I dislike country, I dislike pop but I definitvely hate chanting.
Nonchanting religpus albim belongs in any top whatever list. They all suck.
gave it one cause I coamt rate it 0
Supertramp
3/5
Good easy listening album. Nothing bad but not
thing great either.
4/5
Much better than I remember. Beautiful voice, record has great pace and great songwriting as well.
She is a bit less punk and a bit more indie pop than blondie. I like it more now than as a kid. Its a Kate Bush upgrade
Traffic
3/5
In context is pretty hard rock for a popish group. Good composition good arrangements nice guitarplaying and overall very likable album.
The Slits
5/5
Pioneers and feminist punk rock that lead the way for a lot pf other wonan in rock and punk music history.
Still sounds fresh and diferent. Must listen everyone
Rufus Wainwright
5/5
What a beautuful album.
His voice is a mixture of Freddie Mercury, Matthew Bellamy, Chris Martin and Michael Buble.
A relaxing slow tempo album with slow rock and experimental plus some horns and a crooner style singing in some songs.
Absolutely magnificent.
Added to shit I want to listen everyday
Harry Nilsson
3/5
Good album little wierd and enjoyable. A few really good songs and the some cool voice changes and falsetos that make it unique for its time
Like it a lot
Tom Waits
3/5
Tom is always great. Super diferent and original doing his best with not the best voice. He just does his own thing and its great. A felew instrumentals that didnt love but always a great hear
Jane's Addiction
5/5
Amazing rare diferent creative unique sound a must listen
Louis Prima
4/5
Im definitvely enjoying this album top to bottom. Since they dont record music like this and its not played in the radio I enjoy it much better and feel it was incredible them and incredible now.
Just a few songs that I disnt like so thats the 4 stars but it is a really good listening album
Terence Trent D'Arby
2/5
Its Ok doesnt bother me. Good songs and productionwise it works. Not my type of music but I can hear its a good album overall
Belle & Sebastian
3/5
Its Ok probably could be seen as their generations Simon and Garfunkle. Nice voice, good composition great arrangements. Not my music but good enough for background listening while cooking. In general a really good produced album.
David Ackles
4/5
Pretty good much better than I expected. Its like a mix between Neil Diamond and Simon and Garfunkle, successfully uniting spoken word poetry, folk rock and gospel. Just beautiful melodies and arrangements.
Well written and simply a beautiful record that one can listen over and over again
Gorillaz
2/5
Its ok. Much worse than I remeber. Concept might have ben cool bit wore off pretty fast and didnt held up. 2 good singls and a lot of crappy stuff. Its like yoko ono but more relaxed.
Ice Cube
5/5
Rap essential and Cubes best work. From full gangsta to social commentary with the influence amd help from Public Enemy.
Second part of the album is absolutely insane. From song 8 and its pure fire. The PE collab is great and this set the great career for Cube who has not slowed down yet.
The children song with the Andrew Dice Clay nursery ryhmes is great and funny.
A real great album that all must hear.
Wu-Tang Clan
5/5
One of the best rap debut album ever. This was a game changer and still relevant to this day. Probably their best album and I really love triumph in enter the wu like a lot.
This was groundbreaking and still is. One of the best rap albums ever
Pulp
3/5
Good album. Nice rythym but no big songs or a wow factor
2/5
This is an album that didnt stand the test of time. Its the classic background music to every teenager movies of the early 80s. All the proms, club, patries and other scenes.
Super dated and although its fun and well produced its nothing special to me
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
1/5
Meh. Not my thing too soothing and relaxing. Not bad but not my type of music
Solange
1/5
She sucls worse than beyonce. Glad she is not being pushed to the pop culture amymore.
The Rolling Stones
5/5
I feel their best albums were their early ones and this is a good example. A band that did 6 years of really good rock influenced by blues and 44 years of pop rock crap.
I think they are overrated but this album is one of the best ones and its really great like their only 5 star to me. As good as exile on mainstreet is I feel this is a better flowing album.
The Chemical Brothers
2/5
Its ok but no instrumental electronic music album should be in this list. Too repetitive and sometimes boring.
Nothing special but a really good song thou
Tom Tom Club
4/5
The fact that this was tina and chris of the talking heads side project is insane.
Working a completely different music as members of talking jeads amd coming up with thos sound and have a chatt topper amd then a sample by mariah carey that reached #1 is mindblowing.
Its dated but knowing they were ahead of time with the talking heads music kinds of balances it out.
Good sound and production. Solid album short but sweet.
Radiohead
3/5
Love this concept based band of experimental rock and rollers. This is not theor best album yet better than 99% of any album out there
M.I.A.
5/5
She is one of the best female rappers of all time. Completely original and changed the genere amd influenced so many pop rap artists today that its insane.
Fleet Foxes
3/5
Kind of a lesser coldplay. Not bad but nothing special. Good music overall and good arrangements but not an amazing mindblowing album.
The last song was horrible amd it ended it with a sour note
The Divine Comedy
2/5
Meh its ok but never a top 1,000 album. Last 2 songs really killed this album although the slowing of the rythym I liked towards the end but songs were bad
Michael Kiwanuka
5/5
Wow impressive and amazing. Never heard of this guy before but Im an instant fan. This is why I put up with so many crappy alhums on the list to get a great one Ive never heard before like this one
Robbie Williams
3/5
Not my type of music. Although the album is good and has great lyrics and continuity as a story teller it is a good album. But pop music sucks
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
3/5
Its Ok pretty interesting and innovative for the time.
Massive Attack
1/5
Massive piece of 💩. Its like a long running SNL 🍆in a🎁 vibe.
Green Day
5/5
Super biased. Love this album. This cemented punk rockas a commodity in air waves across the nation. Only 2 songs are meh but all others are solid and the story telling on each song is superb.
Jefferson Airplane
4/5
Its a great album, good flow, bit outdated but was probably the nest at the time. Grace's voice is top shape and best in that era. Joma's arrangements were above average and the harmonies were only second to mamas and papas
Paul Simon
4/5
Always good easy listening but not a wow I cant live without this album type of record.
David Bowie
5/5
Not one single bad song. Really good album and had not listened as an adult to it. Mindblown
Cee Lo Green
3/5
Well produced, sampling is top notch, good but not great.
Dwight Yoakam
3/5
I am not fond of country but this album was very very country, nice balanced pace throught, well produced, melodic voice, good guitar playing overall a pleasant listening experince. Me not hating it is a really good sign.
This is cpuntry true to their roots and sounds.
Duke Ellington
5/5
Always great to hear old school jazz when it was the best music. Instrumental which Ibusually dont lime but thos genere is absolutely beautiful.
This album has no bad songs all are great
Amy Winehouse
5/5
Flawless album except for song Amy. A love diary of a insecure girl madly in love with some dude. This is a love book to someone that most of us have never felt this kind of sickening love.
Production is amazing, sampling superb, sound clear, jazz, doo wop, gospel all in one its simply a masterpiece
Sonic Youth
5/5
Sonic has to be one of the most inportant bands in rock history and yet people dont know them. Post-punk, pre-grunge they were that link in the chain that gave birth to grunge.
Thurston moore is simply a top 20 all time guitarist as an innivator and experimental guitar player. The bands sound is still fresh and they sounded and still sound like no other.
They are a band thet didnt release bad songs in their limited indie releases all real all good rock and roll.
Oh and I love kim gordon
Ute Lemper
2/5
Ute is utter bull💩. Boring and predictable after the first songs all are same pace. Outdated from 2000 sounding like a 1970 bond soundtrack.
Good singer thou. Lyrics are pretty good thou.
Not a top 1000 by any means
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
4/5
Great sound pretty different in context when it came out. Good guitar playing and harmonies. Short amd simple lyrics well sang with good backing harmonies.
Just outdated with time
Steve Winwood
3/5
Its a good album but nothing great. He is just a really good musician that no matter what he records is just good.
Peter Frampton
5/5
Regarded as one of the best live albums ever it still holds the test of time. Fresh and easy going at first but a jam session ensures in the second half.
This dude can rock and move people. Would have loved to be there. But thinking always hos later song breaking all the rules would have made this album even better
David Bowie
5/5
Conceptual, experimental, unpredictable, perfect arrangements, perfect history telling, just a masterpiece and its not even his best album.
Always surprised when I hear this album.
Def Leppard
5/5
This has to be one of the best 80s rock albums. Great from start to song 9. Song #10 is kind of not great to end that amazing rock galore. Definitivelt def lepards best album
Eurythmics
4/5
Always thought it was a pop crap album as a kid. Whole different album today. Pretty wholesome and well produced can even say ground breaking at the time.
Insane I only remember one single that its overplayed still when there are a few songs as good if not better. Really enjoyed but songs are too many and songs are long whoch is maybe why they didnt get airplay.
Super Furry Animals
1/5
Not good at all. Long and voice sucks.
Fiona Apple
5/5
Wow was whatever when it came out to me li d of didnt get it but mow I feel its a masterpiece. Aged better with time. Fiona is greater than great. Super blown away with listening to this after about 20 years later a new meaning. Loved every single song.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Greatest album ever recorded by a band not named the beatles
DJ Shadow
1/5
I'll repeat No electronic instrumental album should be near any top list.
Only song worth listeningwas organ donor. Good song
Norah Jones
2/5
Good album, beautiful voice, great lyrics and simply a goid all around.
Not my type of music and though songs were too similar and the album a bit too long.
Yes
3/5
Absurdly great musicians they were very ahead of their time and although Indont feel this is their best almub it certanily is really great.
Songs are too long but thats what comes with progressive genere.
Sisters Of Mercy
1/5
sounds like the soundtrack goth music of a cheesy vampire c-movie from the early 80s.
And like the do in vampire movies they suck.
Suicide
1/5
Horrible
Depressing and not good
Not even music its spiken words experimental type of poetry and a yoko ono wannabe
Eminem
5/5
Top 3 greatest rap albums ever. Only one song I dont relly like bit ot still great in the album as part of hos amazing storytelling
Simply perfection recorded.
Patti Smith
4/5
Its a beautiful very sentimental album. Amazing songwriting and a mix of poerty and punk which was probably pretty out there when it was released.
I had never given Patti a real opportunity just liked a few songs but this is a great album that I regret not listen to before today.
The Pogues
1/5
Yeha not my thing. Sounds like irish pub music for st patricks but not anything Id put on any other day
The Smiths
4/5
Love this album. First song is fire fire like top notch amazing. Rest of album is similar and at the end its repetitive but morrisey vocal range and hyponotic voice will make you like all songs.
That being said he is a great singer but a douche
Bon Jovi
5/5
One of the best rock albums ever. Up there with appetite and others. Hit after hit after hit simply a perfect stoorm and mix of love and disdain and rocking non stopping.
Randy Newman
1/5
Boring. Same song all over with diferent lyrics but mid at best.
Taylor Swift
4/5
I have to hold my tounge and say it is a very well produced album songs vary a lot for being pop and tons of singles all diferent styles so that shows me versatility as an artist.
Not bad Im not a swifty thibgy but have always respected he songwriting and her as an artists not my cup of tea cause I dont like pop but couldnt get away from this on the radio so kond of was fed up but as an album in order its great story telling and I have to objectively give it 4/5 as much as I would love to have given it a 1 because I heard shake it up a billion times
Lauryn Hill
5/5
Game changer. Lauryn shows 3 things in this album:
1. She is the greatest female rapper to ever live
2. She can write better than all male rappers
3. She can sing better than all female rappers and probably top in the whole industry.
Thats just her. The album is an absolute treasure deserving of beingnin the conversation of best album by a female rapper ever.
Although it has soul and gospel and a lot of atuff mixed in there, the lyrics are absolute bombs with no chill. If this shit dont make you feel pain you have never been in love.
While Wyclef killed the league with his concept album the carnaval which is one of my favorites, this is just perfection and although I was team wyclef after the break-up, this album remade me thibk about my actions and desicions. The older I get the better it is.
Must listen every single human being
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
3/5
Good blues album. Good variety somgs are different. So very unpredictable.
Anything with Eric Clapton gets multiplied to be better times 2 at least.
Its a band Ive never heard or knew before today and feel they are relly awesome
The Beta Band
1/5
Really soft and melodious kind of boring and cringy. Didnt like any song
Blur
3/5
I feel although they are decent band they got too much hype amd are overrated. Have a few CDs and when Inlisten to them it desnt feel as it did when they came out. They were looking to promote new bands and they pushed this one as superstars that didnt deliver to their potential.
Album is Ok still hold sup but nothong spectacular
The Velvet Underground
3/5
Its alright good music but not a special album at all.
The Blue Nile
1/5
Not good at all absolute crappy 80s movie love scene background music. Cheesy and simply not enjoably for me at all. Songs too long
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
4/5
Surprised by this album. Very well produced a lot of covers that really were good and well produced.
Kind of loved it. Had never heard the whole album before
Q-Tip
3/5
Q in my opinion is one of the smoothest and better lyriciscts in the rap game.
I remember being a bit dissappointed when this album came out because it was to relax and soft and the beats were too slow and maybe his style was a bit too r&bish for my personal taste.
I love Q but this album has a few too many slower songs that dont pump you up. Good lyrics thou. I know he produces his beats so just a complete artists rapper that is doing his own thing with a different approach to the rap scene at the time.
George Michael
3/5
Mehhh its a cool album but not mindblowing. Just good music overall. Great voice and lyrics. Simply not his best album.
The KLF
1/5
Absolute horseshit. Some of these albums give me the idea they had 500 really good albums and pushed it too far to 1001
The Offspring
5/5
An absolute punk masterpiece. Heavy, mad and fast. Great producing songs are great and although most have the same pace they link perfectly. The songs tjat chance pace help out the flow of the album.
skating community salutes the offsprings for keeping it real and making it even more real.
James Taylor
4/5
A nice album. Not my type of music pop country but this one was way above the average I give these genere albums. Exquisit songwriting and you can feel the passion on the voice. Im a fan of James Taylor now. Sometime a bit to repetitive but overall surprisingly good
Peter Gabriel
5/5
Absolute monster of album. Super varied and simply excellent musicianship. I have always been a fan of peter but had never listened to this album as a whole just a song maybe 2. Now this is top 2 of his albums to me
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
2/5
Its ok nothing special.
Venom
4/5
Outstanding album from a badm I had only read about and never really gave them a chance. Surprised and happy to have found this metal time period gem
Scott Walker
3/5
I actually liked it cause I didnt know what really was going on amd it kept surprising me with influences from different generes mixed.
Cyndi Lauper
5/5
An insane album. So diferent, so creative, so varied, so fresh, so gooooood.
Half the songs were hits, all should have been. A perfect autobiographical album that should be a staple in any collection.
Mariah Carey
3/5
Its an OK album. Good production all songs are sinilar but all good as her voice is absolutely pristine.
Too popish for me find it a bit repetitive. Still great to hear her sing. Great love songs
Arcade Fire
3/5
Its a good album same style and a few good songs. Well produced but nothing that stood out like amazing or anything like that. Just good music all around
Tori Amos
3/5
Still can't hear the diference between Kate bush and Tori. Some others from the era also sound the same. Decent music but nothing special or worthy of top 1001
Robert Wyatt
1/5
Albums that make me question the critical thinking of the authors of this book. Aboslute horseshit album. Too bad I cant rate it zero stars
Nine Inch Nails
4/5
When this came put it was something so diferent and innovative. Amazing and dark and hard and out there. In context back in the day they killed it with this production. After them tons more came to play like this and it got kind of sarurated but they were the mainstream pioneers so big credit.
Listening to it today it was not as great as I remembered it when I heard it the first time. Its still awesome but maybe I grew out of this genere.
Tim Buckley
2/5
Cool mix of folk and a jazzy vibe. Good voice but the songs I found boring and slow. Too repetitive but still a decent listen. To be fair I dont love this type of music genere but if I found it good it should be a great album to followers of the genere.
Ash
4/5
Pretty good album. Had never hear dof the band. They have a nice sonic youth kind of thing going. Impressed because I had no clue what to expect. A bit commercial on some songs but guess thats ok cause others were hardcorish
Dolly Parton
3/5
Slow but good. Not a fan of country but this were more ballardish vibe. The harmonies of all the songs are pitch perfect. Good listen but not insane good
Suede
1/5
Pretty lame
Slow and predictable.
Not all bad but nothing that stands out
The Kinks
3/5
Always good music bit this was not their best album. A bit too popish and commercial. Dave rocks
The Cardigans
4/5
Absolutely amazing album. Real rock and they single the slow song. This album is full of ups and downs and energy and simply great surprise. Im a fan now
Big Black
3/5
Its great in context. Industrial punk heavily influenced by sonic youth and definitive influence for nine inch nails. Solid album but a bit overshadowed by the progression of the genere
Manu Chao
5/5
This has to be regsrded as a top 10 album in latin american music history. Manu is the greatest latin artist. Well educated, well versed, well travelled, knowledge on all music of all countries, dominates and sings in 3 languages. Social justice and political themes in reggae, punk, ballard, peruvian and equatorian local music.
Just one of the best albums ever.
Portishead
4/5
Such a complete great album. These group didnt play around. I dont think Ive ever heard a bad song inside a whole album concept. Maybe stand alone they are not as good missing context of concept album bit when you hear this bands albums they are as good as experimental albums come. Still Dummy is the best album by them
Eagles
1/5
All songs sound the same
Mid at best
Folk not rock by any means.
Hotel California is the o ly thing holding this down
TV On The Radio
1/5
-C Shein version of Nine Inch Nailes.
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
The second place runner up band on the original pre-emo pioneers. Although probably as good as the cure they didnt have big commercial success. This album is solid and well balanced. Good representation of what was to come for this type of music very charactaristic and great example to listen to.
Stan Getz
4/5
Great concept with perfect delivery clean and sharp. This musoc is really good for relaxing and concentrating.
Cypress Hill
5/5
Top 15 rap albums ever. Super fresh, creative, diferent sampling, new instruments, mix between gangsta rap and psychodic rap and its so good the interludes you dont skip. The flow of this album is perfect.
Saint Etienne
1/5
This is not good music much less a must hear album
Finley Quaye
1/5
This is most definitively NOT a 1001 and a filler for sure. Normal background music.
Earth, Wind & Fire
5/5
An amazing album. Only knew 3 songs but was unaware the album had less than 10 songs which is even more impresive.
Super talented band and experimental adding instruments no one else was using in the funk music.
Pretty impressed and happy to know this album exists.
The Electric Prunes
1/5
70s rock to soft for what was already out there and had already been recorded before. Nothing really different so not good
Sonic Youth
5/5
The most underrated band ever. These people were geniuses and their experimental rock post punk introduced the grunge movement. Without these people no nirvana, no soundgarden no temple no alice nothing. They are one of the most important bands in history
Miles Davis
3/5
Good music but songs way too long couldnt really enjoy them as phone rang, had to work, pick up kids at school.
Hated every second of not really having time to enjoy a good album like this. Still repetitive but pretty good
Bauhaus
3/5
Ok album nothing great
The Pretty Things
5/5
The best album Ive never heard of. Its a beatles vasedusoc with floyd, sabbath and other amazing stuff.
So pumped
Mott The Hoople
3/5
Its an ok album. Npthing sparks out but nothing is really band. Probably lost in the era of major music gods like zepplin, bowie, queen, sabbath and the beatles.
The Notorious B.I.G.
5/5
Top 20 rap album ever. The flow is perfect the transitions are amazing, studio recording clear as day. Gimme the loot is his best song ever.
a-ha
1/5
This album sucks. Apart from 2 great songs the others are generic songs from the 90s era of that genre.
David Crosby
1/5
Nope. Not my thing although not bad
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
These guys are just to good with so much genere influences its hard to keep up.
Great album although low end theory is their greatest one.
The Stranglers
5/5
Super versatile amd creative. Ska, punk, rock-steady and pure 70s rock.
Absurdly great album
Julian Cope
4/5
Wow amazing album of an artist I barely know anything. Post punk and from 1991 am album that kept the integrity of the early days of the genre. Great he kept the sound for a newer generation of punk-pop
The Charlatans
4/5
Surprised by the band. Had heard one or 2 songs. Coming before Oasis should give them a better context but it is what it is, Oasis did it better.
This is am awesome album
Kate Bush
2/5
Im not a fan and was kind pf ok with her being forgotten. Damnstranger things.
Still music is good but her voice is simply annoying to me
Beatles
5/5
What probably is my fav beatle album at this monent just because of the range and versatility they display. Heavy rock, ballards, country western, electronic expeimentation, pop, blues, absolutely everything you can want. Its so unpredictable that it can be listened to in any order of the 3 Vinyls. Its 3 records in one.
Revolution, happyness, rocky raccon and my guitar gently weeps.
This is a must listen and own for every human being alive. This has to be one of the top 10 finalist for best album ever recorded. To me its a top 3
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
3/5
Insanly high level quality musicians all of them the drummer Carl Palmer steals the show in the live track. Mindblowing.
The album is very repetitive the same song over and over with different variations but too repetitive. I get that its progreessive but it was just too much of the same.
The Avalanches
3/5
Electronic music is not my forte. Must sound the same with same rhythmic patterns over a long period of time.
Although I didnt love this, these was a unique type of electronic music more like a construcction of sounds sampled from known music and turned into a mixed media collage sort of speak.
Creativity gets a 10 the music by itself is just not my thing but obectively I can appreciate their work.
Joanna Newsom
1/5
Horrible I simply hated it music cool back in the 1700s.
Should never be mear a lost like this.
Ramones
3/5
As much as I love the Ramones for the simplicity of their music and their importance. Its really the same song with a different title over and over again.
Minimum creativity, super minimalist, fun but not really serious, if you like one you will like them all. Not the greatest musicians but they made it work
2/5
Its ok nothing special. Electronica not my thing but this one was relaxing amd had a good flow with better music
The Afghan Whigs
3/5
I missed thos group. Knew it existed but couldnt remember anythingz
They rock surprisingly good
New Order
4/5
Better than their most famous album wise. Better flow and all songs diferent but somehow connected. Super surprised by this album
Alice In Chains
4/5
Im always impressed by this album. Kind of foregt about it but its an amazing album as a whole. The song order is perfection and hemos make this album a great top one for the 1990
Alice Cooper
5/5
I always thought this was a one song album. I was so wrong this is a full conceptual album that has not gotten their fair dues. Amazing theme album with chronological story telling.
They got my 5 stars
The Cult
4/5
Excellent album. All around great not really a bad song there and very consistent. Vocal range is amazing although reminded me of Glenn Danzing's style although this came before Danzing solo career. I never really had given this bamd a chance maybe because of their glam rock look and the band name which is super cheesy.
Still I learned they actually kicked ass rocked hard for the time period. It was more glam than rock but some songs go the hard rock road and they work. Very balanced album with above average musicians. Their looked was really bad
Radiohead
5/5
Beautiful album very deep and experimental. As a kid I did not like it but cause it was too instrumental and slow but revisiting it was great. Its a profound deep meditetion voyage.
Syd Barrett
3/5
Good album but less like pink floyd more popnrock enaglish invasion early beatlesque.
The Adverts
5/5
Never heard this band but this is a killer album. Pure punk very raw yet very well recorded and clean. All songs are good and can't believe they didnt become a top band at the time.
Really good album the songs flow and kind of have a vibe and continuation with a arragement connecting dot yet its tough to pin point.
Massive Attack
2/5
Simply not a fan. Its ok but really nothing good.
LTJ Bukem
3/5
Sonfar the best electronica album Ive heard and I dont even like this genere.
Great music balancing drum and bass, phychodelic, experimental, ambiance, trance and sounds from all over europe and middle east.
I dislike this music but this non-stop 1 hour mix of who know how many songs or artists is perfecly blended into a marathon where you are just walking and the world is moving around you at the speed of light. Even though its slow for what Ive heard in the genere which makes it better and I could appreciate more the actual music
This must be the best or top 3 electronica albums ever. I dont even know any better but just in case.
Im giving this 3 stars cause it amazing for it being electronica
Richard Thompson
1/5
Yeah no folk or country for my top anything.
Ali Farka Touré
4/5
Good jazz and blues come in any languague. This was a great album its my bad for not knowing the la guague but musicwise is amazing.
Tim Buckley
4/5
Very good voice on Timmy. Good music well thought and performed. Kind of experimental at the time.
Its a bit too slow for me but that was appropiate at the time. Songwriting is also great on this album. Really really good voice and arrangements
Gone too soon.
Little Richard
5/5
Fokin legend this album is amazing pure rock when it started fast and hard. This dude changed music and has not been given the credit deserved and earned
Brian Eno
4/5
Amazing intrumental experimental music. Eno and Byrne make a great group with sounds and specific words that make this unique.
Loved it
Hüsker Dü
2/5
Good album. A step into punk pop. Too commercial for my taste but still easy listening with a few good songs.
Cowboy Junkies
3/5
Pretty good and surprising
Blues and country mixed well. Great tone and voice. Really awesome album
Ice T
4/5
Great Album. Not better than his previous 2 albums power and his masterpiece freedom of speech although this was a better commercial success backed by the being featured in the movie New Jack City a cult classic. OG and Mew Jacl Hustler are the top songs amd they are some of his best songs and most known.
Ice T still has not gotten the credit he deserves for what he has done for rap. He is never in the best MC conversation and he should be asa rapper and as a writer and this Album is a continuation of his work. Better tracks with more marked jazz and funk samples.
Kings of Leon
2/5
Not a huge fan. They are an Ok popish indie mainstream country with good musicians but nothing put of this world. Just good easy going tunes to relax and have as a background. All sound alike but are likable
The Verve
3/5
Pretty good but even though they formed before Oasis, their sound is too much alike. Not in a bad way but Oasis is much better and they kind of gravitated to that exact sound which is ok but males them a bit less relevant. Bittersweet was a massive hit because the producer killed it with the violins but other than that just a really good band second to Oasis
The Residents
3/5
Wierd, crazy, experimental, indie rock with lots of stuff in it and very very creative and unpredictable. Usually dont like these type of stuff but thos one was all over the palce and kept me guessing every song which alwas a good breath of fresh air after a long day.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Great album very consistent and a what can really be called country rock. Great lyrics and arrangements
Sufjan Stevens
1/5
Meh lame
Spiritualized
1/5
Nobody really has to listen to this crap. Its a zero for me
The Beach Boys
4/5
Amazing experimental album. A powerful statement as a band that is adapting to the music changes and help them remain relevant forever
Scissor Sisters
2/5
Its OK but nothing that blew my mind. Sinple good album but nothing magical.
Simply Red
1/5
Outdated ptehr than the single that hit. Nothing really outstanding just an ok album.
Overall cool sets a tone and keeps songs in good timing and smooth running.
Drive Like Jehu
5/5
Experimental progressive punk. This is sooooo awesome. Never hear of them before. This os the reason I keep doing the one albuma day thing to discover stuff like this
Jeff Beck
4/5
Amazing album my new favorite of his. Experimental blues. Awesome
Tortoise
3/5
Better than the average instrumental album. Hands on very progressive and aggressive play bass is insane, whole album is good. Great musicians whoever they are.
First song way too long so had to listen in 2 segments because of a conference call twice so didnt flow as it should have yet found it great a little weak at some parts but for a 20 minute song it was superb.
Boston
5/5
Definitively Bostons greatest album and a top 5 in conversation of best album of the 70s. A game changer in rock
Dire Straits
2/5
Its an Ok album but that country vibe lind of lingered too much and just wasnt amazing. Great guitar playing and riffs thou
Paul Weller
2/5
Its boring although a good production but nothing special
Nightmares On Wax
1/5
Not my thing. Definitvely not a smoking weed album. Too loud and busy not relaxing at all.
This is NOT ever a top 1,000
Metallica
4/5
I love this album cause listen to it as a kid on loop. Being a bit more objective the melodies are very similar in a lot of the songs and too many instrumental pieces that makes it seem less hardcore than it was when I was a kid. Not a perfect album like I remembered.
Hole
4/5
Mich better than I remember. Very varied and good mix of slower and hard rock songs. Courtney love can rock and song at this time
The Beach Boys
5/5
Beautiful and masterful album. Arrangements and melodies are insane. Top in history. Album is a great love story with a link between all songs just a really great masterpiece
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Always felt he is overrated but I was wrong tried to listen to most albums and its good but nothing that made my life change. This album specifically has a special groove that lasts the whole album with a vibe thats tough to equal. I dont love the falsetos yet feel this is a top album for that genere
Neu!
1/5
Why. This sucks big time. Skip
Steely Dan
2/5
I think Steely Dan is an overrated band. Its good but not the best or even close. Its pop rock with a little southern thingy but guessing tjats what americans like as rock.
Album is good but can't get to love them. There were soooo many more creative and original bands in that era that they feel generic.
As an album it works, songs are well ordered and produced. But nothing that I would die if I didnt have it in my life.
Waylon Jennings
2/5
Big 3 day drought for me with country related music. This is actually pretty good and flows perfectly. I dont like this music but I appreciated this album because of the pace mostly. A really faithful album to the generes roots.
Sabu
5/5
Pure raw and amazing rumba sound. Relevant and good after all these years. Can't imagine listening to this when it came out. Must hve been mindblowing
Van Morrison
4/5
Although I dont think albums lists should be included in best album lists (To me it should be studio albums)
This was an amazing one making me realize how good van morrison is and what a great performer. I never liked his music until I heard this. Really good
Neneh Cherry
4/5
Great album. Good mix of freestyle, early rap, pop and other popular generes. Kind of confussed about the whole spanish thingy cause she is Swedish
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
4/5
Good album Costello is a great composer and musician and overall artist that anything he records is good but even if all songs are good doesnt make it a great album not even his best one yet better than most albums for most bands.
Holger Czukay
3/5
Very good album in the year context. Probably ground braking sampling at the time but songs are eternal I feel it was just one huge song that the lable cut into pieces for commercial purposes.
Probably influenced a few of the post punk, pop, indie rock bands in the early 80s
Very unique and progressive.
My only real critique is the length of the songs which I dont have the time frame to listen to them as a whole in one sitting
Slade
3/5
Decent album. Liked it but its very similar to some groups in the era yet not as good as those.
Beth Orton
3/5
Its pk a pop indie album woth good overall songs and production value. Not my thing
Public Enemy
4/5
Very good album. Groundbrwking and raw. Lyrics are top notch and angst and inequakity are touched and raged about.
Johnny Cash
5/5
I dislike country but this is a perfect album. The story, the performance, songs selected and the prder in which they were arranged. All in all a perfect conbination of music that I can't hate onnpr find amy flaws not to give it a 5. Its the best country album ever
Björk
2/5
Although super different and creative I just disnt like as I did before. Too tragic and songs are never ending. Yes they are beautifuly arranged and unique but at least today was not the day for me for this album.
Lana Del Rey
2/5
Horrible its the same song same tone, same depressing melancholic lyrics.
Adel sucks and its still better. She does have a different voice but its so similar all that you cant really enjoy her distinctive sound.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
5/5
I dont like country rock but this is the one band thats not only decent but actually all albums are great. Their country rock with blues mixture is amazing unique sound for that time
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Led has rarely a bad song their curating was perfect and they knew how to rock and make an album.
Their influences and way of ordering experimental and classic was superb.
This not even their top 3 album yet its simply amazing
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
Its ok. Ive never comprehended people going crazy over this guy.
Ms. Dynamite
4/5
A good surprise. Good rapper with a different sound of a mix of generes. Reminds me of MIA and she has a few songs with an Amy Winehouse style. She came before Amy so guessing Amy took a bit from Ms Dynamite. Great album and although a mix of top artists styles combined it feels like it lacks originality.
Really liked it but in context is not as creative.
The Black Crowes
4/5
Surprised is an understatement. I dont really love southern rock but this album is really good everywhere you look it from. Production, song order, lyrics, arrangements its a above average for sure
The Smiths
3/5
Good album. Liked more as a kid now I can see all songs are way too similar and became boring after the 5th song. Good writting and vocals
Sex Pistols
4/5
Staple in all punk collections. Must have although repetitive its still raw and the definition of punk music
Bee Gees
2/5
Not your usual Bee gees. Too repetitive and slind more like indie folk rock from the 60s
Didnt really dig it
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
Turns out Im a new big fan of this great band. All albums are good and well produced and their sound is unique.
This is not the best yet still really good
Pixies
4/5
The pixies always deliver even their mid albums are well recorded, raw and real punk with no apologies. Real as they cone still underground and underrated as a group. Like the punk sonic yourh.
Fatboy Slim
2/5
I repeat NO electronic music album should ever be in a top anything list.
Tom Waits
4/5
Definitively an acquired taste. Not great by any means but wierd and experimental and I love Tom's raspy voice cause it give it an extra level of mystery. I love Tom Waits but objectively its not great just diferente and works for me
Afrika Bambaataa
3/5
Its pretty good in context and marks the begining of something big. Not really great today but back in the day it was fresh, diferent and unheard of
Black Sabbath
4/5
After their first 2 albums that were ground breaking this one doesnt seem to be equal altough fucking amazing
The Boo Radleys
2/5
Its ok nothing that surprised me
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
Same album everytime. I dont get it. Tom waits was first and better. Dont like his singing style but good songwriting. Not my thing very overrated
Buffalo Springfield
2/5
Not their best stuff just a decent all around bit nothing great
Kacey Musgraves
2/5
Another decent album that not my cup of tea. Too popish and indie. Its like the formula for making decent songs.
2 songs were really good all others are average
Def Leppard
5/5
Just when you thought they had put out their album that could never ve matched in pyromania, these dudes come out with one less arm on Rick the drummer (who I Idolize) and put out a back to back impossible perfect album. Even the b sides are insanely good
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Its a good album. Amazing voice and control. Maybe too long because songs were similar. Sinply not my favorite genere but overall enjoyable and better than most pop records. She is much better than her competition.
Butthole Surfers
3/5
Very experimental hard rock punk. Inflenced by balck sabbath, and other important bands from other genres including cumbia,,jazz, punk, etc...
Well though of algum that is surpisingly great with great musicians and music producers
The Byrds
3/5
All songs sound alike. Way too similar. Nice melodies and harmonies but nothing special to make it into a top anything list. Its fun and easy to listen but thats it
Curtis Mayfield
5/5
This is one of the best soundtracks Ive never listened too before. What an amazing album. Funk, slow, intrumentals, fast songs. Simply a touch of every flavor song order was perfect. Producing was superb.
John Lennon
2/5
Not his best album. A few good songs that are famous but bland album overall.
Christine and the Queens
1/5
Very 80s didnt stand test of time. Very standard long and nothing special. Should be a top 1000 not even close
k.d. lang
2/5
Meh. Its a relaxing album one song sets the tone for all. Good voice and lyrics but too similar all songs.
Carpenters
2/5
I like the carpenters but a bit too pop for me. And knowing Karen is one of the best fldrummers elever and she made this type of music instead of hard rock just saddens me cause thats wasted talent
The Smiths
4/5
There are no really bad albums from the Smiths. Music is good and easy to listen to. Thosbone is not their best but still awesome
Jungle Brothers
2/5
Its ok. Nothing stands out just decent music that is not my preference
5/5
What I felt was mod grade experimental rock in the 80s as a kid turned out to be one of the greatest albums Ive heard top 25 for sure. Insane story telling by a master writer. Siemply perfection
Lightning Bolt
3/5
A bit too experimental for me. Fun to listen to and wierd but different which is always good. Influences from eddie van halen and other rock heroes.
Its cool but not a 1,000 all time best
Radiohead
5/5
A masterpiece of moder music Od consider it sound art and should be in art museum collections
Start to bottom all super creative and coherent while experimenting some new ground.
The Byrds
3/5
Good album lots of songs feel like the same. Although they did establish a unique sound that you can listen to any song and know its theirs whichbis tough. Great band
Doves
3/5
Cool album influenced by a lot of bands I love. Problem is that its too similar and nothing new or creative not even their own spice.
Coldplay
5/5
I dont like this band much feel its overrated but this album after not listening to it for a while I can say its a top 5 album of the decade.
Perfection. Song setting the pace one after another and a roller coaster of up and down emotions with Chris Martins versatile voice inflection and pace leading the way for the music to burst and take you all in
Fred Neil
2/5
Folk indie cool well made and writen album. Lot of similar songs and deliveries. Not great but pleasing to the ear and simply a nice Album to listen as background
10cc
4/5
Amazingly good album all songs are cool different and pretty original
Elbow
3/5
Pretty good album great harmonies and producing very impressed
Throbbing Gristle
1/5
Too experimental was not really good and didnt flow. They thought they were doing groundbreaking stuff but they were really doing dog💩
Missy Elliott
4/5
Really good yet underrated album. Has to be in talks of best female rap album ever
Joni Mitchell
1/5
This folk crappy pop is really no good. I can't believe Joan is so big. I mean at least they are original songs and decent storytelling but the music really sucks
Paul McCartney and Wings
5/5
For me his best post beatle album. Wings rule amazing musicians and a different kind of pop rock than the beatles. Really great only 1 song I didnt like yet the transition to that song was enough to make it better this time around
Le Tigre
5/5
Absolutely mindblowing most likely will crack my top 100 albums ever. 4 harddcore punk feminist women kicking ass and showing the pop punkers how it is done. Cant believe I had never listened to this band. They should be uber famous.
Punk, electronic and a a lot of amazing sampling with political and social lyrics. Wow insane. Gonna go listen to all other albums.
5/5
In biased for this as Mise is my favorite band please disregard my rating.
Still their masterpiece was absolution and this the begining of a more commercial approach towards radio play. Same shit happened to Radiohead which is a top band in the planet as well.
This trio of rockers are at the top of the rock food chain if you are not a fan you are not listening.
Love
2/5
Nothing great. It was different but not mindblowing. At least now I know who Madonna ripped off the beautiful stranger song from
Miles Davis
4/5
This is the music I think off when I mention the blues genre. Really good and easy to listen. Only complaint is that songs are too long but that comes with the territory
Soft Cell
1/5
Really bad album only 2 cool songs all other can be discarded. Lot of experimental fails.
The Bees
1/5
Really should be in this list.
The Clash
5/5
Still relevant. Would have loved to hear it when it first came out as it must have been mindblowing for all. Hard, raw, punk at its best.
Lucinda Williams
2/5
Its Ok. But essentially if you give me an album with songs of Shania Twain, Lucinda and Sherryl Crow and tell me to name whoch song is who's, I will fail miserably
Rod Stewart
2/5
Cool that he being an English artists took country music and addded that spice to his album. I hate country music.
Guns N' Roses
5/5
This is top me one of the top 3 best rock albums of the 80s. Perfect album not one single bad song. This was raw and real. Rock had mellowed down a bit after the ealry 80s and the pop and new wave was taking over. This stopped everyone amd everything on its tracks and revived rock hair metal for a new evolution. Then came grunge.
along with these:
Appetite for destruction
Back in black
Blizzard of Ozz
Number of the beast
1984
Then all others.
Tricky
1/5
Portishead is a billion times better. Billie Eillish stole her style from this as well.
Nina Simone
5/5
Absolute gem of an album with very deep sad songs of protest stuff not even permitted back then for women even more for afro-american women. This is a beautifuly delivered album with passion and a great tone marking a social critique of a very obscure era for america.
Go Nina. She should be studied at every single school in the USA preferably to all white christian who are clueless
Janet Jackson
3/5
Nice album but nothing out of this world. Good when it came out but a bit outdated just pure dance-pop. Love a few songs bit the skits I hate and just a few songs that are diferent from the others
Daft Punk
2/5
No electronic music should be in this list. This is no exception and I really like daft punk but not for this
B.B. King
5/5
Absolute insane album. This dude managed to story tell his songs in a order they sound like they were writen in a chronological order of events yet songs were writen in different years for diferent albums. Mindblowing and a killer album
Madness
4/5
Very inpressive. Im sure in the early 80s this was something else. Its kind of line a concept experimental album with a new twist to Ska that no other ska album had at the time. In context I can say it has to be a stepping stone for the genre and a good guide to influence the 90 hardcore ska. That said Our house is a banger that song is so foking good. This album is very very good
Pet Shop Boys
3/5
Good album but not their best. This spot should have been for another artists
Beatles
5/5
Top 5 greatest album ever recorded
Sleater-Kinney
3/5
Very good album well produced and great sound engeniering.i dont love the lead singers voice but it was real good music so they made up for it. 3.5 but can only award 3
Hole
4/5
Raw and hard but better than the first as it is more refined and enjoyable. Even thou it disnt have a major hit like the first album its a much better one.
Most underrated 90s band and it was cause other than its girls and the USA is a patriarchal society and the kurt courtney marrige where you had to choose sides
Nanci Griffith
1/5
This sucks big time
Mylo
1/5
said ot once and Ill say it once again. There is no space for an electronic music album in any top list.
Its jazz smooth relaxing but thats it. Its a fancy bar background noise. A few cool songs to dance and sone good sampling but...
Big Star
2/5
Pretty easy lostening album, very popish maybe slow rock that is just like a band at a dive bar in the background.
Not a bad losten bit definitively not top anything material
The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
1/5
Not really great just another rapper. Dont like his flow althougj he speaks clearly and calmly which can be understood.
Tracks are ok some good one with jazz sampling but overall very monotone the whole album.
Too much good rap albums in the early 90s to even consider this
Steely Dan
3/5
Good album because steely always makes good music very easy to listen but more of the same this thou its probably one of their best records
2Pac
4/5
An exceptional album. Very perosnal and autobiographical about being black in america in the 1990s
A fuck you to the system and an amazing album that defines East coast rap and os a staple of every and any rap lover.
Wild Beasts
2/5
Not bad but not memorable just background music.
The Mothers Of Invention
4/5
Good album had never heard it but it was experimental an conceptual but solid as a rock genre. Good guitar play and overall compositions
LL Cool J
3/5
Definitively his best album. A real great variety of diferent types of rap songs, hardcore, love, r&b, funky. Kind of like he covered all the bases. The gansta songs are raw and powerful. He shows his control over slow and fast beats and shows he cam donwhatever needed at that recording studio.
LCD Soundsystem
2/5
Its a. Nice album the first song is really good and made me want to listen more which is rare for an electronic music album smwhich I consider should not be in any list. This one is better cause there are lyrics and good as well.
Manic Street Preachers
4/5
Never heard this band and its was impressed to hear their fast rock approach for a soft rock style. It was cool and like the album as a whole very surprised to be honest these band deserves a revisti and more airplay
Yes
4/5
Although not my favorite album of theirs I can say that this is their best album.
The drummer is way out of control and the keyboard player on cue just taking the rythym to an extra level of progression in most songs.
The Flaming Lips
4/5
I dont really love this band bit feel its pretty good. Objectively speaking they are good composers and musicians so not much to say but music is too indie slow for my taste. Feel this is a great album
The Strokes
5/5
Absolute masterpiece. I had the album when it came out and it was pretty cool but I never really heard all the songs in order. This is top 5 Album of that decade. Their style, delivery, sound all was pretty unique. Absolute banger
Aerosmith
4/5
Very good album before all went sour.
One of their best
Sonic Youth
5/5
One pf the greatest experimental rock albums ever of not the best.
Staple pf every rock collection a must listen still relevant amd way ahead of its time
Dexys Midnight Runners
1/5
Yeah the songs never ended they were like a loop. A few really long songs I didnt like amd couldnt wait for them to finish.
The Roots
4/5
An amazing album. My favorite is things fall apart but this is most likely a better album a bit more mature and centered within all their styles of music and influences. These are amazing musicians and brilliant songwriters for the oppressed
Happy Mondays
3/5
Pretty cool album from a band I didnt know. Dot. Think it males the top 1,000 but pretty cool
Grizzly Bear
1/5
Th is is NOT a top 1001 album. Its just meh
Minor Threat
4/5
Simple rules of punk:
Raw
Fast
Hardcore
Intelligble at some point.
Awesome album pretty short and sweet. No need to have a 60 minute album if your 30 minutes are focking awesome and unapologetic.
Bad Company
3/5
Very good album from. A good band. Nothing out of this world but good listening to good pop rock.
Talk Talk
3/5
Its an ok album. They have another one thats better. Good music all around but not a wow type of record
The Triffids
1/5
This is not even a good album at all.
Jane's Addiction
5/5
I used to like one song of this band, over time in retrospect I have become a fan pf their uniqueness in an era full of great band I failed to see Jane's versatility, range and originality. The melting pot of their band members background and cultures using jazz, rock, blues and a diverse generes make this band a one in a million phenomenon whos music should be talked about amd influence bands for the rest of times
The Allman Brothers Band
4/5
Im not an allaman fan but this album is a different breed. Its more like an hour long jam of pure power and raw jamming worthy of every collection
Billie Holiday
3/5
Even in a not this music type of mood because of the mellow sadness. I always enjoy her voice and this made me feel a bit better at the moment.
My Bloody Valentine
1/5
My ears were bloddy after listening to this
Madonna
4/5
In an ever changing music movement, Madonna's 80/90 reign and style was becoming outdated as it went for pop to grunge to electronica.
This album is the definition of a major artist reinventing herself and welcoming the changes of the music scene she was the queen of. This is where most artists struggle and their careers decline.
Madonna being a smart, enbraced the electronica element which was an evolution of her music as disco was before her, she adapted and changed creating an album catered with those elements but for mainstream people and her fan base while captivating a new fan base at the same time a younger crowd who discovered her talent and her past as well making this one of the best comeback albums for any artist.
On my take it is pretty good a little slow paced and to much puppy love crying for my taste from a more mature woman and artist. She (or whoever wrote the lyrics) must have fallen for someone and hthat someone was not having it. Maybe a little cringe for my idea of what Madonna stood for in the past and her no apologetic fuck that lets move on attitude.
She also included a japanese speaking track to appeal to a bigger international market doing a brilliant move with the advertising opportunities in Japan it was a brilliant marketing move
Still a good album and in context for the time its a masterpiece.
Caetano Veloso
2/5
Same indie folk album but in another language. They are all equally mehhhh
Jazmine Sullivan
3/5
Its a cool album but nothing new. Its a early 90s type of vive. Still cool she bringing something that was good back. Nice vibe to the music.
Janis Joplin
5/5
Beautiful album. Had always lind of liked it but today I sat down and really enjoyed the whole album as a whole
Happy Mondays
3/5
Good album liked it maybe too similar to the smiths and those groups but same level really so
Depeche Mode
4/5
Its ok like it but nothing mind blowing
The War On Drugs
2/5
Boring and predictable.
Elliott Smith
4/5
Amazing album neverr was much of a fan but now I can appreciate his work better. Some bryan adams, don mclean, simon and garfunkle and a lot of really good inlfuences on his music
Dirty Projectors
2/5
Not my thing. Sounds like a cult waiting to dring the kool aid at the end of the concert.
The Pogues
1/5
What the fuck is this bullshit. Some leprechaun religous crap. Id give it a 0 but least is 1 star
Billy Bragg
4/5
Very good album similar to the smiths and morrissey and the brit pop era pf tje mid 80s
Maybe more indie and musical than depache and the others definitively could listen to the arrangements that are very good.
Cream
4/5
Awesome album has stood the test of time. Very varied and solid musicians blues ones are my favorite hit they really con play.
The Killers
5/5
Top 5 album of the 2000. A perfect masterpiece with no flaws. All songs are good. Its was something diferent when it came out and still holds up very well
Echo And The Bunnymen
4/5
Great album a hidden gem. Amazing band from that era that was never huge in the USA although a pillar in the UK.
Like this album better than the one containing some of the best hits.
Morrissey
3/5
Morrissey always delivers good album but continuation of good music nothing was better or worse than previoslusband subsequent albums
Beyoncé
3/5
I dont like Beyonces music. Im not the target doesnt speak to me but I can objectively say it is well produced and she can really sing she has pipes.
Having said that I actually kind of liked this album cause it was more gospel oriented and less pop driven. It feels more real and a better reflection of her amd her background
k.d. lang
1/5
What in the name of christ almighty os this pop country crap
George Michael
4/5
Absolutely banging. Lots of great songs sounds like a greatest hits. Yet not a grest album perse. The songs dont have a unifiying theme other than love but some great songs have no reason to be in that album. Still always great to hear a ton of great songs in the same album which os the case here
Eagles
3/5
Its a decent album. Country pop rock but well writen and the songs all compliment each other making sense which although not for me I can say its a great album. Maybe a bit too repetitiveish but probably their best album Ive heard so far
Portishead
5/5
Still holds up super innovative experimental sexy creative.
First 2 songs are so good that it doesnt matter anything after yet all are well constructed and have a common thread.
Amazong album ground breaker
The National
3/5
Similar earlier Albums of other bamds are better. Thisbis good but not great
Doves
1/5
Nothing I liked or can say is innovative
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Great songwriting the singing is meh more like spoken word lind of country but good prose poetry. Similar to bob dylan and indie stuff thats not my preference but still really good objectively
Tracy Chapman
3/5
Its an ok album overall not the stuff I like but pretty smooth
Quicksilver Messenger Service
4/5
Great album. Solid. Mostly instrumental rock ryhthyms with great bridges to connect all songs.
R.E.M.
5/5
Banger an album so well ordered and with songs that libge one into the other but dont sound the same. Its a poetry album that was sung with passion and feeling that we dont usually hear.
Morrissey
4/5
Alaway a great singer a d musician. Love his music this is a must hear not his best yetn amazing alum overall
Silver Jews
3/5
Nothing special but good. Didint bother me but not an unforgetable album
Coldcut
1/5
No electronic album should be in a top anything list
Brian Wilson
4/5
Great CD relevant till the end. A life long continuation project. Beautiful melodies and sinply awesome
The Fall
4/5
Never heard of this punk group was super happy I got to know this band amazing raw album
Led Zeppelin
5/5
One of the best albums ever. So different so unpredictable. Pure music energy filled with different genres. Beautiful
Rocket From The Crypt
2/5
Its an ok album. Not great songs are all the punk formula with strong chrouses and one that sounds like elvis costello. That was like the 4-5 song giving a break from the chorus songs that was cool to change it up.
This was commercial punk pop at its pinnacle
Common
5/5
wow just wow was never a big fan of Common because in my country they didnt give him airplay.
This is an amazing album. Really good order and structured. Simply a great album
Dinosaur Jr.
4/5
Wow as a lid heard and read so much aboit them but the airplay in my country was absolute 0.
This is a really good band anywhere from experimental rock to hardcore punk to alternative its a weird transition and they were in there maybe not even realizing the were movong toward something new. Im sure they influenced a lot of bands. Sonic Youth was the one who really junp started this type of noise feedback sounding rock movement but these were a great follow up band to sonic.
Im definitively going to study them and have them in my good grace band.
Orbital
1/5
Im at album 600+ and I everytime I hear some crap like this I double guess the ability of the "curators" or "editors" of this list that they are clueless.
There is no space in a top anything list for electronica. It just sucks. I imagine the dj of this group engenieering the first song and feeling like that was going ti be a mindblowing intro when in fact I almost blew my brains not to keep listening to that crap.
Id give this album a 0 stars
Willie Nelson
5/5
I hate country but this smooth album with some familiar tunes was a great listen and would recommend for sure. Super surprised and its not even a song I knew but enjoyed all. great flow for this album
The Thrills
3/5
Good album. Didnt know them, disnt expect much. Songs have a few genre mixed like indie, country and psych rock but the songs were too alike except one which was placed perfectly to breaknup the monotony of the album. A good new band doing the late 60s thing but not really better than the top of that era. Fun and different but not lifechanging
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
Really good album, underrated band, in a good transition from 60's rock to 70's rock. Good experimental inclination towards the new decade. Good listen.
Thundercat
3/5
Interesting album. Some really crazy experimental things and some serious music with a lot of influences from a ton of genres. Whoever this dude is he knows his music. I might not have loved the album but I can't tale away I was impressed with the music and his artistic freedom which he uses to the max. Really cool and different
Gang Of Four
4/5
So similar to Talking heads that if it werent for the voice Id probably wouldnt recognize or differentiate the bands apart.
No matter its a great band and this album is top of the line. All very new wavish punk with experimental sounds and sillyness which is refreshing.
Roni Size
1/5
No drum and base no matter how good should be in any list with the beatles and zepplin.
Its ok repetitive and boring
Gillian Welch
2/5
Its a nice album very similar all songs good songwriting but too country for my taste
The Shamen
2/5
Meh it doesnt hold test of time outdated music that was great at the time. Like new order and depache and pet shop boys but not as good.
R.E.M.
3/5
Good album not as good as automatic yet better than most of that years albums.
Dion
2/5
Its cool but nothing life changing. Just good music from a good era
Shivkumar Sharma
1/5
The more albums I hear, the more I feel the authors were just picking random shit like this as fillers. They never heard a spanish rock album ever
Nitin Sawhney
2/5
Pretty varied and entertaining. Had no clue what to expect but was good to listen to altough not great
Bob Dylan
3/5
Its a good album with good lyrics but I can't get past by Dylans inability to sing or hit any note.
Van Halen
5/5
We got a winner. Absolutely insane. As a child this was the album that made me want to learn about rock.
After the Beatles Van Halen is top dog for me.
As much as I love Floyd sometimes they got borring. Led was also killer but Van Halen took it up a few notches from the paved way of Led.
First side pure hits, side B great not famous songs
Kanye West
3/5
I think this dude lost his shit. But what done prior to his burnout whack mental disorder he got, it was very originall and creative.
This album mixes some techno and industrial type beats and he kills with the lyrics.
Im not fond of religous lyrics but he managed to keep it fresh and sounding like his normal style.
This album is great and its not even his best one
2/5
It is a mice band good music mellow like a paul mccartney copy which is good when done correctly like XTC.
Gopd album to just push play but no specofic banggers on the album
American Music Club
2/5
Should be an exclusive club only for americans. Like the USA its a copy of British rock music scene from the 80s like the smiths and others. Way too similar so its mehhhh
Iron Maiden
5/5
One of the must have top 25 metal albums of all time. These people are absolute insane and this album has hit after hit a simple masterpiece of rock.
3/5
The art of improvisational jazz where each musician plays whatever the fuck the want at their own pace abd taste and somehow manages to keep it fresh amd interesting because of the what the fuck is going on here? what are they doing? What are they thinking?
The this sucks intrusion woth the wait no this sounds different and so random its good and I can't really know whats up or whats coming in the next interval.
A ugly beautiful thing not many can pull off
