1001 Albums Summary

This took me back, what an interesting first day using this service.

This was completely new to me. I had heard of her but had actually never really listened to her. I absolutely love her voice. The type of music isn’t my favorite. Still glad to have discovered her this way.

This was new for me, never heard of them before. It was alright, but clearly not my style of music.

This surprised me as I usually dislike country, but it was so classic that I just really found myself enjoying this style of music for once.

Not my cup of tea. First album that I didn’t finish. Just couldn’t.

A surprise, I wouldn’t have chosen to listen to early 2000s pop. I like her voice and kind of enjoyed it, even if I don’t know how often I will return to it.

I absolutely loved this

I didn’t like this, but I’m glad I listened to the album. I can see how someone else could just love this. I think this is just not my preferred type of music.

A few songs that are really good, bit even though I lived this band when I was a teen I have to admit I did not really enjoy listening to this whole album from start to finish.

Another surprise for me. Not my style of music, I don’t listen to any hard rock, but I found this band to be quite simply fun. I don’t know that they will be a regular listen for me but glad to have stumbled upon this.

I grew up in the 80s, and hadn’t heard nor even thought of George Michaels. And let’s admit, the 80s were a weird decade. But I really enjoyed this, there are quite a few really good songs on here.

I like electronic music, and this was the first album of electronic music from this generator, and I just couldn’t finish the album. Not for me.

I listened to it and wasn’t quite sure about this one, so I gave it a second listen, and then started to get it and appreciate it. By the third time through I really liked it.

I was not the audience for this one.

What can I say, I do love Bob Marley.

A few catchy songs, but the album as a whole doesn’t hold up, too juvenile. I’ve outgrown much of what I listened to as a teenager including this.

I experienced this album as flowing from one end to the other. A great voice. And some great songs. Lived it.

It was alright I guess, just clearly not my style of music.

This was a surprise. First time listening to Iggy Pop, and so glad I gave this a chance, since I haven’t liked any other album so far categorized as punk or post punk. This album is, in a word, fun. Also, The Passenger is a great song.

Yesterday I was inclined to give this a 2 or even 3 for it’s weirdness and how funny it was to listen to it, once. But being real, I didn’t enjoy it, didn’t think it was good, I don’t even think track 2 can be called music, and I will never listen to this again, not even by accident. But he does get a point for doing his own thing, that’s for sure. I’m just not the audience for this one.

It wasn’t that bad. He’s a crooner for sure. Listening with this on in the background was alright, until any lyrics caught my attention. Trite, weird, not good lyrics.

Takes me back. One of the greatest rock singers of all time. This was a CD I listened to on repeat when it came out, and it holds up.

I absolutely loved this, I listened to the album on repeat all day.

A couple good electronic jams that are so catchy, but a lot that are super repetitive and forgettable.

The negative reviews of albums here can be quite funny, and this one got some great ones. But I didn’t have the same negative reaction. Not one that I loved, but in the mood for something really slow and mellow, this fits. Country, folk, blues towards the end. Pretty chill the whole way through.

If in the mood for punk rock, this is pretty good.

This isn’t my favorite album of his, but I love him. You really have to listen to the lyrics with him, and doing so rewards the attention.

I can only give it three stars because I heard this was 3 hours long so I cut corners and only listened to a Best Of version. Which I liked.

This was a surprise, I didn’t guess I would like this, but I found myself enjoying it. It was fun, and it really held together, almost like one long song. Plus, Good Vibrations.

Lovely lush chill

Love this, good ol’ Tom Waits. Vaudeville, carnivalesque, weird and wonderful. Voice like a leather belt soaked in rye whisky for a year then thrown onto a gravel road and run over by a line of big rig trucks. This is great, with some really great songs.

I’ve now listened to a few examples of this style of music, prog rock, which I had never heard of before. It’s fine, even kind of interesting, but none of it grabs me as anything I will choose to listen to again.

I don’t listen to a lot of country so I was glad to be exposed to this. I enjoyed it.

Just a fun album to listen to, simple and playful.

I could not listen to this album. I hit play and then I was like, nope, honky tonk is exactly the kind of country music I can’t stand.

Not for me.

Can you separate the artist and his life from the art to evaluate it? No. I listened to the album. Billie Jean is a great song. Jackson was a monster. Ours is a society that gives celebrities access to whatever they want as if they were gods. This rating is for the whole picture, not an album in isolation.

A few good songs, plus Tina Turner just brings pure energy.

Some good songs, takes me back to the 90s

This was another pleasant surprise of a discovery. It was not what I expected from a name like primal scream and I quite liked it.

No to this style of country, plain and simple.

BB King, simply the best, and a delight to hear this live show. This will be added to my short list of albums to return to and listen to as a whole album.

Really good rock music from the late 80s. Looking back, most of the rock music I listened to back then doesn’t hold up. But this was really enjoyable.

A cool discovery, pretty fun to listen to. Ska is new to me, and doesn’t grab me as a favorite new genre. But still, a cool enough summertime listen.

Prog rock is new for me and not my favorite newly discovered genre. This was actually pretty good though. Almost a 4.

The reviews for this are mostly terrible. I don’t get that. While I didn’t love it, I thought it was okay for the time it represents, 80s pop.

Classic soul music, I loved it

Hip hop isn’t always my favorite, but this was pretty cool, good beats on a lot of the songs.

He can write some catchy pop songs, but kind of boring. And the other reviewers are right about how stupid the lyrics can be. Cars are Cars is simply the dumbest.

This was a surprise. I found this simply enjoyable and interesting. Folsy and jazzy, chill but not boring. I enjoyed how he used his vocals. 5 stars for the surprise.

Some hate Tom Waits, some love him. I just get a kick out of this music and his totally unique creations.

A couple classic songs, but not so much overall

I am not a fan of Elton John per se, not my preferred style of music. Even so, this gets 5 stars, it is clearly his masterpiece. Very creative.

I like Pink Floyd, bit I did not really like this. It was interesting as I can hear the beginning of their sound. But this one just didn’t do it for me.

Leonard Cohen is my guru.

I’m still not sure how much I like punk. This was alright, actually, but I didn’t find myself loving it and likely I won’t re-listen, so it’s a 2, even though it’s probably better than a 2 for others.

They really are great songs on this one, a couple I just didn’t like. Glad to add this to my collection.

I still don’t know what to make of prog rock as a genre. This is the second album I’ve heard by King Crimson. Pretty good, kinda weird, sometimes interesting, sometimes forgettable. So, three stars. I am reserving judgment for now.

I can’t believe I’m rating this album this high. This is a type of music I specifically dislike. Yet I found myself enjoying this, finding some of the songs catchy, and even laughing while listening to ridiculous country lyrics.

The Beatles are great. Not every album is a 5 though. This one has a few great songs but altogether is not a favorite and I probably won’t listen to it again in its entirety.

He’s really good, you know? He can write some catchy tunes. Maybe I’m Amazed is an all time great song.

Solsbury Hill is a great song. The album overall is pretty good.

A perfectly classic mid 90s album. I could even say iconic.

I love this. This is my favorite by them, the one album I will regularly listen to from start to finish.

I think the 80s were a weird decade for rock, certainly not my favorite. On the positive side, some real good guitar playing, and Jump is a classic rock song from my childhood.

Forgot about this band, though I did like them back in the day. So on the negative side, they didn’t hold up as memorable for me. But a few good songs I still like, and a big improvement over the preceding decade of 80s rock. I enjoyed listening after all these years but probably won’t play it again.

The cry at the start of Cry Baby… Janis Joplin, the one and only, 5 of 5 stars

Folk punk. Who knew? This is another of those surprise albums. I started off not really into it, but it grew on me. By the time I got to the Union song I realized that I really kind of like it.

I love this. It is now one of my favorite albums. And what a surprise: I didn’t know Jersey Girl was originally by Tom Waits! What a great song.

Nice, chill, and at times interesting.

Still not sure what to make of this prog rock genre. Some of it is interesting, some of it makes me wonder what made them record it. This album is like that. The whole is not greater than the sum of its parts, bit there were some interesting parts.

This was a fun album to listen to that grew on me the more I listened to it.

It was so interesting and weird, an experience for sure, that I give it a three even though I don’t need to listen to it again.

The first CD that I owned, a defining album for a time in my life, one hell of a debut album, and I think it holds up. A classic from my youth.

Ah, Madonna. Some good now-classic pop songs here. I enjoyed it overall, a nice throwback.

An Angel walked among us as Artist, graced us with such songs of heartbreaking beauty, a choir of angels in a single voice, and then left.

Now this is a great classic rock album. A lot of really good songs here. Who knew I like The Who?

I’m adding this to my list of favorite debut albums. Silky smooth and chill. I for one love this.

Their debut and only album, and it goes on my list of great debuts. I had heard of them but never once had heard them. I’m so-so on punk, but this surprised me. I was really enjoying it and having fun listening by the end.

His solo debut, made with the help of David Bowie, and I love it. Goes on my list for favorite debuts.

A throwback. I listened to it a lot back then. Doesn’t hold the same appeal now. But it is good, unique, and I still like a few of the songs.

In general old country is not my thing, yet I found myself at least appreciating this for what it is. Nice singing voice too.
