Popular Reviews

Folk punk. Who knew? This is another of those surprise albums. I started off not really into it, but it grew on me. By the time I got to the Union song I realized that I really kind of like it.

Welcome To The Pleasuredome by Frankie Goes To Hollywood

A most interesting and entertaining debut album. Of course there is Relax, but also so much creativity across the other songs. Just a fun album.

The La's by The La's

Way too many Brit pop albums on this thing.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette

A perfectly classic mid 90s album. I could even say iconic.

Debut by Björk
Feb 13 2025
Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Feb 14 2025

This was completely new to me. I had heard of her but had actually never really listened to her. I absolutely love her voice. The type of music isn’t my favorite. Still glad to have discovered her this way.

Crocodiles by Echo And The Bunnymen
Feb 16 2025

This was new for me, never heard of them before. It was alright, but clearly not my style of music.

The Grand Tour by George Jones
Feb 17 2025

This surprised me as I usually dislike country, but it was so classic that I just really found myself enjoying this style of music for once.

Odessa by Bee Gees
Feb 19 2025

Not my cup of tea. First album that I didn’t finish. Just couldn’t.

Eagles by Eagles
Feb 20 2025

not m style.

Stripped by Christina Aguilera
Feb 21 2025

A surprise, I wouldn’t have chosen to listen to early 2000s pop. I like her voice and kind of enjoyed it, even if I don’t know how often I will return to it.

xx by The xx
Feb 22 2025
Shalimar by Rahul Dev Burman
Feb 24 2025

What a surprise.

B-52's by The B-52's
Feb 26 2025

I didn’t like this, but I’m glad I listened to the album. I can see how someone else could just love this. I think this is just not my preferred type of music.

In Utero by Nirvana
Feb 28 2025

A few songs that are really good, bit even though I lived this band when I was a teen I have to admit I did not really enjoy listening to this whole album from start to finish.

I Against I by Bad Brains
Mar 02 2025

Another surprise for me. Not my style of music, I don’t listen to any hard rock, but I found this band to be quite simply fun. I don’t know that they will be a regular listen for me but glad to have stumbled upon this.

So by Peter Gabriel
Mar 04 2025
Faith by George Michael
Mar 05 2025

I grew up in the 80s, and hadn’t heard nor even thought of George Michaels. And let’s admit, the 80s were a weird decade. But I really enjoyed this, there are quite a few really good songs on here.

american dream by LCD Soundsystem
Mar 06 2025

I like electronic music, and this was the first album of electronic music from this generator, and I just couldn’t finish the album. Not for me.

Heroes by David Bowie
Mar 08 2025

I listened to it and wasn’t quite sure about this one, so I gave it a second listen, and then started to get it and appreciate it. By the third time through I really liked it.

American Gothic by David Ackles
Mar 09 2025

I was not the audience for this one.

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Mar 10 2025

What can I say, I do love Bob Marley.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Mar 11 2025

A few catchy songs, but the album as a whole doesn’t hold up, too juvenile. I’ve outgrown much of what I listened to as a teenager including this.

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Mar 12 2025

I experienced this album as flowing from one end to the other. A great voice. And some great songs. Lived it.

Kilimanjaro by The Teardrop Explodes
Mar 13 2025

It was alright I guess, just clearly not my style of music.

Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
Mar 15 2025

This was a surprise. First time listening to Iggy Pop, and so glad I gave this a chance, since I haven’t liked any other album so far categorized as punk or post punk. This album is, in a word, fun. Also, The Passenger is a great song.

Shleep by Robert Wyatt
Mar 16 2025

Yesterday I was inclined to give this a 2 or even 3 for it’s weirdness and how funny it was to listen to it, once. But being real, I didn’t enjoy it, didn’t think it was good, I don’t even think track 2 can be called music, and I will never listen to this again, not even by accident. But he does get a point for doing his own thing, that’s for sure. I’m just not the audience for this one.

A Short Album About Love by The Divine Comedy
Mar 21 2025

It wasn’t that bad. He’s a crooner for sure. Listening with this on in the background was alright, until any lyrics caught my attention. Trite, weird, not good lyrics.

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Mar 22 2025

Takes me back. One of the greatest rock singers of all time. This was a CD I listened to on repeat when it came out, and it holds up.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Mar 25 2025

I absolutely loved this, I listened to the album on repeat all day.

The Cars by The Cars
Mar 26 2025

Classic fun. So many catchy songs. Loved it.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Mar 29 2025

Some good songs. Uneven as an album

Drunk by Thundercat
Mar 31 2025
Vulnicura by Björk
Apr 04 2025

I love her debut album. I still like this one, it just doesn’t compare. But it is still her, so a 3.

Diamond Life by Sade
Apr 12 2025

Loved the sax, and a couple good songs.

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Apr 13 2025

That’s one helleva harmonica, Bob. Plus some classic songs.

Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne
Apr 14 2025

Nice discovery, a downtempo electronic album that I will listen to again.

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka
Apr 15 2025

Love his music. Love and Hate is my favorite. Hadn’t listened to this one yet so glad to be prompted to do so.

Homework by Daft Punk
Apr 16 2025

A couple good electronic jams that are so catchy, but a lot that are super repetitive and forgettable.

The Trinity Session by Cowboy Junkies
Apr 18 2025

The negative reviews of albums here can be quite funny, and this one got some great ones. But I didn’t have the same negative reaction. Not one that I loved, but in the mood for something really slow and mellow, this fits. Country, folk, blues towards the end. Pretty chill the whole way through.

Raw Power by The Stooges
Apr 19 2025

If in the mood for punk rock, this is pretty good.

The Score by Fugees
Apr 22 2025

Some good songs on here, I liked it.

The Sounds Of India by Ravi Shankar
Apr 23 2025

Fun, an educational bit, and then music I never would have listened to otherwise.

Group Sex by Circle Jerks
Apr 27 2025

I think I just don’t like punk rock. At least this was a short album.

Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos
Apr 28 2025

I hadn’t listened to this in so long. There is just something about her that I love. Powerful stuff here.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Apr 29 2025

I don’t know what it is about jazz. I either really love it, or I really don’t want to listen to it at all. This I loved, this was great, a pleasure to listen to.

Songs Of Love And Hate by Leonard Cohen
Apr 30 2025

This isn’t my favorite album of his, but I love him. You really have to listen to the lyrics with him, and doing so rewards the attention.

1977 by Ash
May 02 2025
Triangle by The Beau Brummels
May 04 2025
The United States Of America by The United States Of America
May 05 2025

I had to give this a second chance, listening to a few songs again. At first I didn’t like it. But I came to enjoy the playfulness, and the vocals as well. Interesting for sure.

2112 by Rush
May 10 2025
May 12 2025

Grunge rock takes me back to my college days, and this is a great representative of that time for me.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
May 17 2025

A couple classic rock songs - gotta love Wild Horses - and some bluesy rock song I hadn’t heard before. Plus, I just like the Rolling Stones.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
May 18 2025

So great. Few singers deserve 5 stars like she does.

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
May 20 2025

I can only give it three stars because I heard this was 3 hours long so I cut corners and only listened to a Best Of version. Which I liked.

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
May 22 2025

a couple classic rock songs, otherwise not that great

Smile by Brian Wilson
May 25 2025

This was a surprise, I didn’t guess I would like this, but I found myself enjoying it. It was fun, and it really held together, almost like one long song. Plus, Good Vibrations.

War by U2
May 26 2025
Rain Dogs by Tom Waits
May 29 2025

Love this, good ol’ Tom Waits. Vaudeville, carnivalesque, weird and wonderful. Voice like a leather belt soaked in rye whisky for a year then thrown onto a gravel road and run over by a line of big rig trucks. This is great, with some really great songs.

Rio by Duran Duran
May 30 2025

A couple classic 80s pop songs, but otherwise not my thing

Is This It by The Strokes
May 31 2025

A couple good songs

Third by Soft Machine
Jun 08 2025

I’ve now listened to a few examples of this style of music, prog rock, which I had never heard of before. It’s fine, even kind of interesting, but none of it grabs me as anything I will choose to listen to again.

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
Jun 09 2025

I don’t listen to a lot of country so I was glad to be exposed to this. I enjoyed it.

Clandestino by Manu Chao
Jun 11 2025

Just a fun album to listen to, simple and playful.

Jun 12 2025

I could not listen to this album. I hit play and then I was like, nope, honky tonk is exactly the kind of country music I can’t stand.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Jun 13 2025

Not for me.

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Jun 14 2025

Can you separate the artist and his life from the art to evaluate it? No. I listened to the album. Billie Jean is a great song. Jackson was a monster. Ours is a society that gives celebrities access to whatever they want as if they were gods. This rating is for the whole picture, not an album in isolation.

Private Dancer by Tina Turner
Jun 19 2025

A few good songs, plus Tina Turner just brings pure energy.

Definitely Maybe by Oasis
Jun 22 2025

Some good songs, takes me back to the 90s

Screamadelica by Primal Scream
Jun 23 2025

This was another pleasant surprise of a discovery. It was not what I expected from a name like primal scream and I quite liked it.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Jun 28 2025

Another great surprise. I did not guess I would even like this, much less love it. Some great songs on here.

Live At The Regal by B.B. King
Jun 29 2025

BB King, simply the best, and a delight to hear this live show. This will be added to my short list of albums to return to and listen to as a whole album.

Vivid by Living Colour
Jun 30 2025

Really good rock music from the late 80s. Looking back, most of the rock music I listened to back then doesn’t hold up. But this was really enjoyable.

The Specials by The Specials
Jul 01 2025

A cool discovery, pretty fun to listen to. Ska is new to me, and doesn’t grab me as a favorite new genre. But still, a cool enough summertime listen.

Jul 02 2025

Prog rock is new for me and not my favorite newly discovered genre. This was actually pretty good though. Almost a 4.

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.
Jul 04 2025
Different Class by Pulp
Jul 05 2025

This one grew on me as the album went on. Some catchy songs, and an album I will listen to again. A nice discovery.

Chelsea Girl by Nico
Jul 06 2025

Not a very compelling singer. I did not listen to much of this album.

Infected by The The
Jul 07 2025

2-3 stars, on the fence. The music was not bad, at times kind of catchy. Whenever I would notice the lyrics they were not good.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Jul 08 2025
The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Jul 11 2025

This works great as a whole album for me. Another nice discovery for me. Hadn’t heard this before.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Jul 13 2025

Just a fun blues rock album to listen to, one I am sure I will return to.

Queen II by Queen
Jul 15 2025

Good classic rock I hadn’t heard before

Picture Book by Simply Red
Jul 17 2025

The reviews for this are mostly terrible. I don’t get that. While I didn’t love it, I thought it was okay for the time it represents, 80s pop.

I See A Darkness by Bonnie "Prince" Billy
Jul 21 2025

Not terrible, but I just could not get into it.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025

5 stars in honor of Ozzy, who just passed away, July 2025

Jul 25 2025

Hip hop isn’t always my favorite, but this was pretty cool, good beats on a lot of the songs.

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
Jul 27 2025
Hearts And Bones by Paul Simon
Jul 28 2025

He can write some catchy pop songs, but kind of boring. And the other reviewers are right about how stupid the lyrics can be. Cars are Cars is simply the dumbest.

Solid Air by John Martyn
Jul 30 2025

This was a surprise. I found this simply enjoyable and interesting. Folsy and jazzy, chill but not boring. I enjoyed how he used his vocals. 5 stars for the surprise.

Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
Aug 01 2025

Some hate Tom Waits, some love him. I just get a kick out of this music and his totally unique creations.

London Calling by The Clash
Aug 02 2025

Yeah, this is just great to listen to all the way through

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Aug 03 2025

A couple classic songs, but not so much overall

Aug 06 2025

I am not a fan of Elton John per se, not my preferred style of music. Even so, this gets 5 stars, it is clearly his masterpiece. Very creative.

Aug 07 2025

I like Pink Floyd, bit I did not really like this. It was interesting as I can hear the beginning of their sound. But this one just didn’t do it for me.

Aug 10 2025

I’m still not sure how much I like punk. This was alright, actually, but I didn’t find myself loving it and likely I won’t re-listen, so it’s a 2, even though it’s probably better than a 2 for others.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Aug 11 2025

They really are great songs on this one, a couple I just didn’t like. Glad to add this to my collection.

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Aug 12 2025

Loved this! Added this one to my collection of favorite discoveries from this generator.

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
Aug 15 2025

What a songwriter.

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
Aug 16 2025

This is amazing, I absolutely loved this.

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Aug 18 2025

Love it, I just love her glorious voice through all these lovely folk songs.

The Doors by The Doors
Aug 19 2025

One of the greatest debut rock albums of all time.

21 by Adele
Aug 23 2025

Incredible singing voice, good songwriting, several really good songs.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Aug 26 2025
Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
Aug 27 2025

I still don’t know what to make of prog rock as a genre. This is the second album I’ve heard by King Crimson. Pretty good, kinda weird, sometimes interesting, sometimes forgettable. So, three stars. I am reserving judgment for now.

The La's by The La's
Aug 28 2025

Way too many Brit pop albums on this thing.

Yank Crime by Drive Like Jehu
Aug 29 2025

Pretty darn good punk rock music, some good tunes on this one.

Aug 30 2025

I get why this is an important album, and I remember the influence of this, and what was going on in that time period, when I was a teenager. It’s not my favorite music to listen to though.

Mask by Bauhaus
Aug 31 2025

Another surprise. Based on the description I didn’t guess I would like this, bit I really did. Weird, kind of, and not all of the song, but some I did enjoy. I can see myself listening to this album again.

Abraxas by Santana
Sep 02 2025

Great artistry, a deserved classic.

Honky Tonk Heroes by Waylon Jennings
Sep 05 2025

I can’t believe I’m rating this album this high. This is a type of music I specifically dislike. Yet I found myself enjoying this, finding some of the songs catchy, and even laughing while listening to ridiculous country lyrics.

Sep 06 2025

The Beatles are great. Not every album is a 5 though. This one has a few great songs but altogether is not a favorite and I probably won’t listen to it again in its entirety.

McCartney by Paul McCartney
Sep 07 2025

He’s really good, you know? He can write some catchy tunes. Maybe I’m Amazed is an all time great song.

Peter Gabriel by Peter Gabriel
Sep 10 2025

Solsbury Hill is a great song. The album overall is pretty good.

Sep 12 2025

I like him, and this is good, just nowhere near as good as Moondance

Sep 13 2025

It was okay. I did kind of like it, but it didn’t stand out as one I will listen to again.

Sep 15 2025

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Sep 16 2025

A perfectly classic mid 90s album. I could even say iconic.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Sep 17 2025

I love this. This is my favorite by them, the one album I will regularly listen to from start to finish.

1984 by Van Halen
Sep 21 2025

I think the 80s were a weird decade for rock, certainly not my favorite. On the positive side, some real good guitar playing, and Jump is a classic rock song from my childhood.

Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes
Sep 22 2025

Forgot about this band, though I did like them back in the day. So on the negative side, they didn’t hold up as memorable for me. But a few good songs I still like, and a big improvement over the preceding decade of 80s rock. I enjoyed listening after all these years but probably won’t play it again.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Sep 23 2025

The cry at the start of Cry Baby… Janis Joplin, the one and only, 5 of 5 stars

Sep 24 2025

Folk punk. Who knew? This is another of those surprise albums. I started off not really into it, but it grew on me. By the time I got to the Union song I realized that I really kind of like it.

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Sep 25 2025

I just love this, plain and simple.

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Oct 01 2025

One great song, but did not like the album at all.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Oct 17 2025

Nice, chill, and at times interesting.

Fragile by Yes
Oct 18 2025

Still not sure what to make of this prog rock genre. Some of it is interesting, some of it makes me wonder what made them record it. This album is like that. The whole is not greater than the sum of its parts, bit there were some interesting parts.

Arular by M.I.A.
Oct 19 2025

Fun, interesting and cool.

Trio by Dolly Parton
Oct 20 2025
En-Tact by The Shamen
Oct 23 2025
All Hail the Queen by Queen Latifah
Oct 30 2025

What a time capsule from 1989. In that respect it is perfect. But how does it hold up as something I want to listen to now? Not too well.

Don’t like gangsta rap

It was so interesting and weird, an experience for sure, that I give it a three even though I don’t need to listen to it again.

Ten by Pearl Jam
Jan 27 2026

The first CD that I owned, a defining album for a time in my life, one hell of a debut album, and I think it holds up. A classic from my youth.

Like A Prayer by Madonna
Jan 28 2026

Ah, Madonna. Some good now-classic pop songs here. I enjoyed it overall, a nice throwback.

Gris Gris by Dr. John
Jan 29 2026

What a fantastic discovery, a great debut, a reminder of what I have appreciated about these random recommendations. A New Orleans psychedelic rock jazz kind of thing. I love it.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Feb 01 2026

An Angel walked among us as Artist, graced us with such songs of heartbreaking beauty, a choir of angels in a single voice, and then left.

Who's Next by The Who
Feb 02 2026

Now this is a great classic rock album. A lot of really good songs here. Who knew I like The Who?

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Feb 03 2026

I’m adding this to my list of favorite debut albums. Silky smooth and chill. I for one love this.

Their debut and only album, and it goes on my list of great debuts. I had heard of them but never once had heard them. I’m so-so on punk, but this surprised me. I was really enjoying it and having fun listening by the end.

The Idiot by Iggy Pop

His solo debut, made with the help of David Bowie, and I love it. Goes on my list for favorite debuts.

Night Life by Ray Price
Feb 22 2026

In general old country is not my thing, yet I found myself at least appreciating this for what it is. Nice singing voice too.

5 stars for tainted love, 1 or 2 stars for the rest, but tainted love is on there 3 times, so pretending to do the math in my head makes this a 4

Truly unique, for sure. A category of its own.

Imagine by John Lennon
Mar 03 2026
Justified by Justin Timberlake
Mar 04 2026

Good for what it was, good dance music of its time. Dated, but those songs kind of hold up. Rock Your Body is still catchy. The slow songs are bad and it would have been a better album half as long without them.

Arise by Sepultura
Mar 05 2026
Odelay by Beck

A unique artist from the 90s, when alternative rock was mainstream. That’s my generation right there.

Savane by Ali Farka Touré
May 18 2026
Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers
May 19 2026

I never heard any of this Britpop back in the 90s because I was listening to good stuff from right here in the US. Listening to it now it seems overrepresented in these 1001 albums, to say the least.

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen
May 20 2026

Hurts me to rate him so low. I love his lyrics. But the 80s keyboard sound and the backup singing on most songs are quite distracting. Love him though. For poetry he gets 5 out of 5.

Ctrl by SZA
May 24 2026

Impressive debut from a young artist. A nice R&B/soul mix with hip hop. Not what I normally listen to, and the lyrics from some of the songs were just not for me, but overall I kind of liked it. A few good songs in there. Likely won’t listen to the whole thing again though.

A Girl Called Dusty by Dusty Springfield
