This is so bad it's actually laughable.
Brian Eno & your shitty production style, we meet again. I like being a sensible, educated, well-rounded hater, so I’ve been desperately searching for anything of yours that I halfway like. I did not find it on this album. This music sucks. Just like the other Eno produced albums on this list I’ve heard so far. The streets say ambient music is where you shine. I hope to find refuge there one day. Until then, I will continue to sift through this dumpster you call a catalog.

Wow this was really toe tapping wasn’t it?? I try to judge the album itself and not the legacy the band has. I acknowledge that Roxy Music influenced a lot of better bands but there’s a reason why Roxy Music isn’t all over the radio. It’s just not good at all. Lyrics are gibberish, melodies are nonexistent, song structure is all over the place. Just terrible.

Instrumentals are pretty nice, but Bryan Ferry has one of the worst voices ever. Completely unlistenable and it ruins the entire album kinda like Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground.

Second time listening. The list of artists inspired and influenced by Roxy Music is long, including Devo, Duran Duran, ABC, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads, and The Human League. I would rather listen to any of those than endure Roxy Music’s first album again. It’s difficult to put my finger on why I find Roxy Music, and in particular their first album, so grating and annoying, but it’s everything. From Bryan Ferry’s smarmy voice to the alternately droning and meandering keyboards, guitars and saxophones to the way the drum fills are mixed in. And it’s not that I’m bored or dismissive about what I’m hearing; I’m actively disliking it. It’s as if my musical preferences were fed into A.I. and Roxy Music’s first album is spit out to push all my aggravation buttons. So put off by consuming this album again, I immediately played Apple Music’s “Inspired By Roxy Music” playlist to cleanse my palate. I love 75% of it. Go figure.

The tremolo is super annoying, interesting album to be from 1972, definitely ahead of its time, but I do not like to listen to it.

I really didn’t get or enjoy this album. So much soprano sax (and Oboe??), real campy tunes that sound like Queen, Rolling Stones, Beatles and the rocky horror picture show all mixed together with a heavy dose in a weird way that aged poorly.

Just...the album art is uncomfortable and the guy's vocals feels like I'm being subjected to listening to a kid going through puberty and having to lie that he sounds great.

I have come to realize that its Roxy's third act that I like the most, and early albums with Brian Eno are just not for me Virginia Plain is the stand out track here, one that never really appealed to me much Now I realize why this album is not in my collection

A rare confusing album, from which I didn't get anything out of a single listen. It may be an unfair assessment, but this doesn't deserve more than one star. Maybe more listens would change the situation.

I listened to the monstrosity of Roxy music. It has bad vocals singing horrible songs,each sounding worse than the last.
I just can’t with the 70’s theatrical glam rock. Too much drama, like dropped-out theater kids trying to prove they have talent.

Remake/re-model is chaotic fun and even rips off Day Tripper but i cant get past the whiny annoying vocals Is there something sounds like an attempt at Bolanesque vocals but just sounds like a goat wailing Virginia plain is another example of what could have been for the want of a decent vocalist
I was sure I liked Roxy Music before I listened to this. Now I’m not so sure…
My grandpa used to sing songs in, as he described it, "a wavery voice" to try and make us laugh. Little did I realise at the time, this was actually a pretty accurate Bryan Ferry impression. This was not for me. I listened to the first track three times, not because I liked it, but because I kept trying to listen to the album and struggling to get past track two. Virginia Plain was the only song I knew before going into this, and its probably the highlight of this album, yet I would still categorise it as "fine, I guess". Irritating but not completely unlistenable, so by rights I should be giving this a 2/5 based on my self imposed scoring system, but I realised that when it ended, I was actively pleased it had stopped, so: 1/5

Track 1 was ok, not really my thing, but listenable. Track 2 was dogshit, the unmistakable stench of Eno was all over it. A quick check on wikipedia confirmed it, it's an Eno job! Fast forward to track 3, a little bit better. Then it went tits up again.

I didn’t enjoy this one. Art rock usually isn’t my thing and this album reiterates that. Also, I find that projects associated with Brian Eno aren’t really my cup of tea. To each his own, but I’ll be happy to skip past any more Roxy Music albums.
Um, not my favorite. I listened to it through my computer while working and during one of the songs I spend two minutes trying to find out where the construction (or something my recognized as a construction site) noises were coming from. I thought I had some other Firefox tab autoplaying a YT video or something, I was hunting for a few minutes until I realized it was just part of the song -- after I paused it. No thanks.

This is the 43rd album I’m rating. I’ve heard of Roxy Music and I still can’t believe there isn’t a woman in the band. I’ve never listened to the music though. Adding to my Playlist - Would You Believe? and Bitters End. Not Adding to my Playlist - Re-Make/Re-Model, Ladytron, If There is Something, Virginia Plain, 2HB, The Bob (Medley), Chance Meeting, and Sea Breezes. Virginia Plain - I wonder if I should rate this because this is on the US version? All in all I liked 2/10 songs. Wow. This really wasn’t that good. It wasn’t even that interesting either but maybe that is just because the band was really influential.
Apart from "Virginia Plain", definitely not to my taste at all!

Like the B-52s had an unholy love child with a worse arctic monkeys and there were no plans or song structures and the singer was a budget Bob Dylan. I will not be listening to this again. Sea Breezes was one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

Brian Eno's band, I'm guessing he's the most represented person in this project between Roxy Music, his solo efforts and the albums he produced. He has the famous quote about the Velvet Underground and there are moments where you can hear the influence. A lot of bands loved Roxy Music and I simply do not understand it. David Bowie, yes. The Sex Pistols, no. The Bob (Medley) revisits a theme from If There Is Something and expands on how terrible it is. Art rock is generally not a good genre. The album gets worse as it goes on. What happened to bands in the late 60s that made them think that an album with random guitar distortion in the background was appealing? Drugs?
It's another band I have zero experience listening to, but let's give it a whirl. I listened through this album and really couldn't tell you anything I remember about it. It blends with some bands from the time period, but other than that. To the pit of Misery.
My testicles are smaller having listened to this.
Didn't find anything for me here on this album, overall boring and... not very good. Singer reminds me of a worse version of David Byrnes as well. I'd say this borders between weak 2 and strong 1, but haven't had a 1 in a long time so I feel adventurous to explore other ratings as well. The reason it tips the scale towards 1 was that it was so uninteresting, and actually sounded a bit bad a times.
The singer sounds like a part time high school drama teacher who just got off a 12 hour flight, drunk, ears clogged, and the airline lost his suitcase where he packed his inhibition and sense of melody.

girl this album is unlistenable
Ugh. Bryan Ferry's wittering, warbling voice. The music is average, nothing special - except Brian Eno's synth flourishes, which show what he would go on to be capable of. Really not a fan of this album though, and I struggled to get through it. I guess it was musically quite whacky and different at the time. It's personal, though. I just can't bear the singing style, which grates on me. Not so bad when the singer stops singing. (The album cover is pretty basic.)

I can honestly say that if I heard any single one of these songs in any random streaming app I would get out my phone, open the app, and press skip.
The very last song was kinda fun. Probably just added last minute. Otherwise I didn't enjoy this album at all. Don't know why this is regarded as any good.

Maybe it’s a style over substance thing, but I’ve never understood the appeal of Roxy Music. Compared to their peers: I like Hunky Dory, I like Transformer, I like 10cc but this just sounds like unpleasant noise to me.
First time listening: 3/9 songs liked Eh. I don't think glam rock sits with me well. The Theatrics are cool and all, but not something I would listen to on Sunday mornings out of the blue. Very interesting musical ideas from each song though. No song saved

Not that into it
I get that this is supposed to be progressive rock, but this didn’t connect with me at all. The voices were grating and music was ok at times (horns!), but at others was awful noise. It’s just mostly bad, in an uninteresting way. 1 extra star for effort/ concept. I listened to some of their 80s stuff after the album and liked it a bit better
