Reviews (page 7 of 7)
I remember them from my youth. Was never thrilled with them then and not thrilled here. I give this 2 stars.
Too vintage rock for me
I wouldn't be surprised if this band has a song I like, but this album didn't really have it. The singer is like a shaking David Byrne.
I started the album with excitement as I did not really know what to expect, and I started liking the initial songs. However, I started to get disappointed as the sounds started becoming less attractive to me, especially for the vocals. Expected Marc rating: 4
5/10
Very early 70s, with glam-rock and avant-garde influences. Not horrible, but I much prefer the band's later output. 2/5
Good, but not very inspiring. A high 2
Kinda boring Brit pop. Horny Beatles? Were the Beatles horny?? I was bored is what I’m trying to say
Kinda cool, kinda confusing and pretty mid. I feel like there are some nice moments but then there are those which don't make sense and don't sound too good at all. I think the band is good, but not great. The vocalist is also ok and is bordering on the sound of struggle( as well as the lead guitar at some points). I would not listen again.
I thought it was average. The instrumental was above average but just the vocals weren’t great and I couldn’t even understand the lyrics. Plus it didn’t help the songs were so long. Ig give this a 4/10
There are parts that I like but overall this album isnt my type of music.
I like a couple of Brian Eno songs. I like “More Than This.” But this album is garbage. Nothing about this makes me want to listen to it.
It was alright
Devo + Talking Heads = 2
Didn’t really do it for me. At times sounded like they were trying to be the Rolling Stones
I was looking forward to another Roxy Music after enjoying my introduction a while ago. But this was just… ok. Not being really memorable to me but the occasional not-as-musical-more-noise sound effects.
2/5 nope
I’m convinced that some of these are on here just because they’re British.
This album fell into a weird, quasi-Tiny Tim/70s/80s uncanny valley for me. It didn't always feel like something I wouldn't like, the instrumentations and melodies were all fine, but something about the album as a whole felt off. Aside from bits and pieces of a couple songs (If There Is Something and Virginia Plain), I don't think there's much else here that I can say that I liked.
Really dislike his voice
It's rock and roll/hairspray type music from the 70s, but I kinda hate it. I don't like the singing and I don't like the balance. There's some weird noises here and there that also don't really fit. The horns don't really add to it, and annoy me. It feels super out of place, like there's so much better music in so many other places. If you're listening to this, there's probably an album that does exactly what you like even better and for longer (more songs).
Not great for me, relatively hard to listen to but some good tracks
Mmmm not without some quirky and enjoyable moments, and it's got its charm, not anything I feel compelled to come back though. 2.5/5 Fav track: Virginia plain
I feel like you had to be there. As with many albums, probably influenced loads of artists I like today. And Brian Eno is great. Probably need someone to explain it to me.
2.5 stars. First half was OK, with interesting guitar riffs. But the vocals dragged it down and it really faded in the second half. "Virginia Plain" is a solid track.
I wanted to enjoy this album. Some elements of nearly every song were enjoyable, but most tracks ended up in a weird, unpleasant place for me that had me questioning how soon this album would end. I'm not sure what vibe the band was hoping to capture, but the album artwork exemplifies my feelings well. Pseudo-sexy, beautiful but overdone, with a face that suggests a mixture of ambivalence and slight disgust.
It says rock but I feel like this is an improv bebop jazz band that isn’t sure what kind of music they want to play. There are so many instruments playing and the beat continues to change for a lot of the songs. “The Bob” it sounded like a war broke out in the middle of the song. Heavy breathing into the mic. What is happening. This genre is different, but I’m not sure I would call it good. I never found myself singing along to anything or wanting to dance. One thing is for sure, it’s not repetitive, because not a single song had a chorus. Songs would go from moderately enjoyable to boring without warning. This album is like an all you can eat buffet. But it’s CiCi’s Pizza 3/10
Thought I was going to enjoy this but it worked hard to disappoint.
Alcune canzoni meglio di altre, ma molto noioso
This album just confused me.
Not awful, but its hard to understand why this is an essential album. Its OK. But its not much more than OK. 2/5
I don't get it. Roxy Music did some good stuff, but I don't get why this is hyped. 2 stars.
Another Roxy Music album?? My opinion on them remains unchanged.
not for me
Do not dig this at all
Just listen to an Eno album of this era. The production is pretty much the same, but Eno's tunes are better and his albums are shorter.
LISTEN 1: just off the year & album art I can tell im gonna like this. im expecting dance pop, some shit like "head to toe" or "two of hearts". Fingers crossed. wow i was so wrong. opening track is giving major Talking Head vibes. sea breezes is so bad holy shit LISTEN 2: Ladytron and 2HB are kinda dope He rips Bob Dylan's signature vocals a bit too, this project didn't need to be made.
Remake remodel is a rocking tune. Bryan Ferry’s quavering Tiny Tim-like vocals get on my nerves after a couple tracks.
Not terrible
I can hear the influence to Bowie, Talking Heads, and more. This 1001 list is feeling more like the 1001 "influencer" or "original" list though. It's fine. But sometimes I'd rather listen to the great stuff that followed it. Roxy Music picked an original sound and feel, sure. But is an album that made it only to UK #10 in 1970 really one of the best 1001 albums of ALL TIME? *sigh* this project might be wearing on me. Also the list has a strong UK bias, which again is fine, as it reflects the author or editor's taste, just not all are 1001 in my own book. Saying all that. I appreciated this album. Never heard of Roxy Music before. But as a Bowie, Talking Heads, Duran Duran, etc fan, this felt like a fun listen.
Does nothing for me
как-то совсем не зашло
This was not good. It was eccentric. Thankfully it was relatively short.i was better than a one but not quite a two. I will round up.
Such a mediocre record. The sax playing was horrendous and the mix is bad. Will not be listening again.
Wel leuk, maar meh
Ug, for all I try I just can't get into this. To me it feels like 'look at me, I'm being zany!'
Probably deserves more than a 2. Better than I thought it would be. But I'm giving it a 2.
Certainly not one of the stronger albums
Not for me, too art for art's sake. Very 80s sounding, but not in a good way. No thanks 2 🌟
I like the instrumental parts. there’s some cool stuff with synths and saxophone on tunes like 2hb I don’t like the vocals for the most parts and it’s hard for me to get past. Would you believe is probably my favorite song. Pretty good rhythm section. I like Brian Enos later stuff and his ambient music and his production so was expecting to hear some more those elements and like this more. Sea breezes is so weird. 2.5
don't get the hype
Eh, i like it but it kind of didn’t hold up after 4 tracks
Sounded like David Byrne from Wish.com. Didn’t give it much of a chance given how much of a state I was in, but it didn’t blow my socks off
Won’t complain if it’s on but nothing stood out
Rocky Horror vibes. Wouldn’t listen again though. I liked some of it, but there were songs that I wanted to skip a bad!
70s glam, dragged.
Best Song: Ladytron. At first this sounded like futuristic for a future I never want to visit (Mostly because of whatever instument (recorder?) carries the melody throughout the song). Eventually though, the part picked up by the rhythm section carried an energy that won me over. Worst Song: If There Is Something. Man went full sheep on this one. Bonus points for one of the worst solos I can remember hearing. Overall: Really quite awful. Theatrical in a cheesy way, over-indulgent, manic, blegh.
Oh, I really didn't enjoy this one. Less than Country Life, for sure. Just weird in an unpleasant way.
I put this on last night as I crawled into bed. I didn't manage to make it through before I fell asleep. At the time, I wasn't overly enjoying it, but I didn't think it was so bad. Then today, when I listened again, I didn't really find anything about it appealing, and some was a bit irritating. I guess Roxy Music just isn't for me.
First listen, I didn't mind it. Seemed ok. And then I hit "play" again. And I did not have a good time. That and I spent far too much time and energy thinking about and talking about whether the cover was sexy or a joke. I'm back to disliking Roxy Music again.
A pretty odd album that never really seemed to mesh together well. It felt like there were times when it was a more of a classic rock album but then other times it felt like a prog rock/psychedelic album with some odd instrumentals. I felt like the combination didn’t mesh well. Doubt I’ll revisit this one. 5.2/10
I thought I could hack this one. I was wrong.
I was stuck on who I was exactly listening to. I was confused that I might have been listening to a mix of Devo, Bob Dillon ( no disrespect to Bob ), and Jean Michael Jarre’. You definitely have to give them credit for Love Is a Drug but that is on a completely different album. Good Day!
Why am i getting vietnam flashbacks 1 Not too bad 2
Ook zo'n plaat waar je niet warm of koud van wordt. Luisteren naar de wasmachine is ongeveer even interessant.
Thought I’d enjoy this more based on other songs. Kinda tough to listen through. Enjoyed one song. 1. If There Is Something
How many random instruments can you throw into one song? Messy experimental prog rock. I think I heard a zuzuphone in there somewhere, and I’m not even sure that’s a real instrument. Plus the lead singer’s voice, along with all of the vibrato, grates on me.
To me, it's a mystery why this group was ever popular!
Meh.
Please decide what kind of music you want to create, as it is it's too diverse...
Somewhere between Bowie and Talking Heads. Notes of post-punk too. Just didn't grab me at all. Favorite track: "Re-Make/Re-Model"
I had heard a few tracks from their 80s era work but that’s it, and very different from this. This is surprisingly punky and off-color. I don’t love the vocalist’s sound but that is my own personal taste. Pretty wild sound for 1972.
There was some promise, but overall pretty inconsistent for me. I've heard of this band a lot as an influence for some of my favorite bands, and even heard some of their songs covered, but most of the time the album didn't really do it for me. Standouts: Ladytron, If There Is Something, Would You Believe?
Difficult, wild, not my style.
Possibly something for David Byrne fans? Maybe a bit more erratic. This is the first time I've given Roxy Music a hard listen, but they've crossed my radar before – specifically "Country Life". Not totally sure what to grasp onto. Track I'll revisit: "Re-Make/Re-Model".
neitakk
Pop un tanto diferente. De estilo ochentero. No me ha aportado especialmente y tampoco hay ninguna canción muy reconocida
Pretty cool instrumentals at points in this album, but lyrics and singing didn't do anything for me. Calling it plain or bland would be inaccurate, but it just didn't move me at all. Favorite track: Virginia Plain
Didn't really do much for me. Avalon is a far better album.
Nit really my jam to be honest
The first time I listened to this I thought it was bizarre but interesting, especially because it's so different from Country Life. I felt it deserved a second listen, which may have been a mistake. Because it did not go well. This album makes no sense to me at all. Is it a joke album? I think it might be a joke album. Or perhaps all the band members were in different rooms when they recorded the songs? And had never heard them before? Is it supposed to be this discordant and irritating? Eno is definitely playing something only he can understand, and as the album progresses he seems to be ignoring everyone else and starting his solo career. I think I might hate this album. Sea Breezes nearly did me in. Why are there dueting oboe and electric guitar interludes over the sounds of waves crashing on the beach? And what the hell is going on with the drums? It's 7 minutes long and feels like 70. One track left. Now you might ask how you should wrap up an album this all over the place... apparently you do it with an homage to The Monster Mash with castanets and saxophone. Fuck me. This is original, I'll give it that. But it's also the kind of album that is responsible for me saying that I hate art rock.
Yeah...no. Didn't like it.
This was another one that I haven't heard of before so I wasn't sure what to expect going in. It was weird. Not great, not terrible. Not really something I was really into. 1. 2HB 2. If There is Something 3. Chance Meeting
Never really spent much time at all on the music of Roxy Music. I will say this though, track one sure didn't win me over. A few tracks caught my ear, but for the most part it wasn't very memorable.
Meh
I didn’t HATE this but there’s no way I would listen to it again. Weird lyrics, a lead singer of a rock band with a vibrato? It was odd.
Wildly different from my expectations. I kind of think of RM as the band that brought me my favorite 80's song, "More Than This". Imagine my surprise to find this weird rock amalgam album. Not unpleasant, but also not the hoped for new hidden personal anthems.
Left me feeling a little coy. Six rums in may make it more enjoyable, but no lasting impresssion
There are three Roxy Music albums on the list. I only have a vague recollection of disliking the first two. Nothing stood out. I wrote in one of the reviews that I didn’t like Bryan Ferry’s voice. And that’s my main takeaway from their self titled debut album too. There’s some not-too-objectionable art rock here, but Ferry repeatedly makes it unpalatable.
Still don't really get it. Glad Brian Eno got famous off this but his talents are best highlighted elsewhere. Probably better than a two but I rated the other Roxy albums a two and this one isn’t any better
wow...the band so nice we get them thrice. Yet I'm still not sold on them. Their first album we listened to, For Your Pleasure, is still my fav. This one felt closer to a David Bowie which I saw was some of their influence. Either way, I think they are using these fancy women on the covers to draw you in and possibly overcompensate for their mediocre melodies.
Never heard them before. Started off really good! Then the yelping/yodeling/warbling vocal thing? Okay for a sort of “hey this was popular once.” A couple of tracks (like Sea Breezes) will be great on a mixtape. Not going to be listening en toto to this again.
An ungainly beast, full of prog mannerisms (only just discovered Peter Sinfield produced it) and generally wobbly and uneven. "Remake/Remodel" is really the only thing on here I like without reservation; the rest of the album has moments but could be summed up as "Rewrite/Re-record" (which Brian Ferry apparently did on some of his solo recordings)...
super forgettable
Bit trippy for me
It’s interesting. 2.5/5
DNF
Inge vidare Sista låten var ok
Really not very strong. Virginia Plain was not on the original UK release. Cover art 4/5
This is worse than I expected. Roxy Music look like a competent group of musicians but this is just a bit rubbish. It’s uninspiring and monotonous. Only reason that it’s not a 1 star is because it wasn’t actually painful to listen to. Just unpleasant…
As an album this is... not great. There's one properly stand-out track (Virginia Plain - who'd have thunk that?) but the rest are just not up to snuff. As I write this review, "Sea Breezes" is playing, and it's just a bit shit. I do like some of the tracks, but the album just seems thumbed together, without a journey, a theme or anything really. One track doesn't make an album.
Meh
Virginia Plain y su aire a Talking-Heads es lo mejor del disco, el resto un sonido a cabaret y honky tonk que me da un poco igual. A ratos también se nota la mano de Brian Eno, o eso me parece a mí.
A šta ga ovi mogu dropit.
Not sure about this. It’s very chaotic. I can praise it for being very experimental and trying things out but it feels like disjointed noise at times. Really don’t like Bryan Ferrys’ voice.
Melkosta skeidaa
Parempi laulaja ku tää hyypiö, nii ois voinu kolmosen livauttaa
Not to my liking
Rustig album, niet heel indrukwekkend
i really wanted to like this. i didn't.
È un rock piacevole, con spunti interessanti. Mi fa venire in mente il Rocky Horror Picture Show. Però un po' annoia.
There are things to like here, but the vocal sits on top of some tracks in a karaoke kind of way.
Mja, dit vond ik met tijd en wijlen niet echt te volgen. Het klonk niet verkeerd, maar er was iets wat me tegen stond.
Die vibrerende stem vind ik lastig.
Not for me, too art for art's sake. Very 80s sounding, but not in a good way. No thanks
I didn't really enjoy this album, but I did like the song Would You Believe. The instrumentals were great, but the vocals didn't do anything for me. 2/5 stars.
I'm usually all for weird Brian Eno but this one really drags on the back end and the songs I did like didn't do enough to pull it up Saved: Ladytron, If There Is Something*
Not all that interesting, probably was somewhat revolutionary for its time.
First listen. Sounds good. Like to hear more of it.
Bryan's unique voice!
Annoying vibrato
meh?
This is kinda like lite classic rock. Not really digging it.
This one that really feels like it needs the explanation from the book to give it context. Didn't sound interesting to me at all, but I can see it having significance or influence in some way.
Should I like this, meh, not going to beat myself up about it
Virginia Plain and a couple of other ok tracks - but disappointed as kind of hoped there would be enough to make me want to explore more - there wasn’t.
Virginia Plain and a couple of other ok tracks - but disappointed as kind of hoped there would be enough to make me want to explore more - there wasn’t.
I couldn’t get into this one. Not in the mood.
Better than their other album, but still not my jam.
An interesting mash up of what a lot of other famous bands sound like. The wiki was an interesting read, I wasn't familiar with Roxy Music at all.
Felt very 80's for a 70's album which I suppose is a compliment. Couple good songs.
A bit of a mish mash. Definitely some good bits I liked but more prog than I'd like and the vocals got on my nerves
I did not take a deep dive into this album. It was not what I expected. Had some rocking tunes but nothing stood out. They have an album cover with boobs on it, so that's something.
Such a provocative album. Experimental and free flowing. May listen to this once and again...
This is not what I was in the mood for today... I get that its influential and experimental and I may revisit.
2
Suprisingly "out there", and hard not to compare to Ziggy Stardust, which came out at the same time and is epic experimental rock. This is pretty uneven, some interesting Bryan Ferry warbles, but the music doesn't hold my attention.
Why do people listen to this? Mess.
Disappointed in this one - the synth textures on 'Virginia Plain' and the earlier tracks promised an exciting fusion of proto-punk and dance, but afterwards the LP fizzled and hit middle-of-the-road territory for me. Multiple times I got absorbed in other things and then snapped back to the music only to be surprised that a track was /still/ playing, often repeating the same riff I had tuned out on.
roxyyy
Didn't think I would like it as much as I did! Very Kinks ish
bro what are those vocals???
It was ok, there were a few songs I liked but wouldn't go out of my way to listen again
No me gustó 💜
Wow this was really toe tapping wasn’t it?? I try to judge the album itself and not the legacy the band has. I acknowledge that Roxy Music influenced a lot of better bands but there’s a reason why Roxy Music isn’t all over the radio. It’s just not good at all. Lyrics are gibberish, melodies are nonexistent, song structure is all over the place. Just terrible.
rock raro de los 70, tipicamente americano, bastante melodico, muy meh en general igualmente
Drivel
Instrumentals are pretty nice, but Bryan Ferry has one of the worst voices ever. Completely unlistenable and it ruins the entire album kinda like Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground.

Second time listening. The list of artists inspired and influenced by Roxy Music is long, including Devo, Duran Duran, ABC, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads, and The Human League. I would rather listen to any of those than endure Roxy Music’s first album again. It’s difficult to put my finger on why I find Roxy Music, and in particular their first album, so grating and annoying, but it’s everything. From Bryan Ferry’s smarmy voice to the alternately droning and meandering keyboards, guitars and saxophones to the way the drum fills are mixed in. And it’s not that I’m bored or dismissive about what I’m hearing; I’m actively disliking it. It’s as if my musical preferences were fed into A.I. and Roxy Music’s first album is spit out to push all my aggravation buttons. So put off by consuming this album again, I immediately played Apple Music’s “Inspired By Roxy Music” playlist to cleanse my palate. I love 75% of it. Go figure.
Wauw, dit is echt totaal niet mijn ding. Waarschijnlijk toen der tijd geweldig voor sommige en voor nu had je erbij moeten zijn denk ik... Ik herken een paar hitjes maar die staan niet op dit album
Unlistenable? Lol
Miserable listening experience……okay that’s a bit strong……I just did not vibe with this
Why?
The tremolo is super annoying, interesting album to be from 1972, definitely ahead of its time, but I do not like to listen to it.
I only got 2 songs in. I didn’t like his singing style
Meh
I really didn’t get or enjoy this album. So much soprano sax (and Oboe??), real campy tunes that sound like Queen, Rolling Stones, Beatles and the rocky horror picture show all mixed together with a heavy dose in a weird way that aged poorly.
Warbly off-key singing with some weird instrumentals - did not like
Just...the album art is uncomfortable and the guy's vocals feels like I'm being subjected to listening to a kid going through puberty and having to lie that he sounds great.
elton john if he was straight, couldn't sing and couldn't write songs
Too much fuckin Brian Eno on this list
Literal ear cancer
Not for me. 1/5
Maybe it was significant for its time.
bitters end buena
Did people collectively forget how to sing in the '70s?
Tedious
I have come to realize that its Roxy's third act that I like the most, and early albums with Brian Eno are just not for me Virginia Plain is the stand out track here, one that never really appealed to me much Now I realize why this album is not in my collection
Just irritating. I wish this list had more modern albums.
That was one of the most grating and annoying albums I’ve ever heard. The vocalist sounds like a dying cat. Horrible.
Bryan Ferry is a no thank you. Other than “Mother of Pearl” (which is not on this album) I just can t get behind Roxy Music
Not good...
I gotta tell you, this album was a hot mess from the beginning. I'm so glad that this isn't the first music by Roxy Music that I listened to.
Idk what I just listened to.
Really not my vibe. At all. 0/10
Not sure
Dnf, this did not connect for me
I really don't like the singer, Brian Ferry, on this. Brian Eno was keyboards and I don't have a problem with the instruments, just the singing.
1/1
Roxy (I do not care to listen to this) Music
A rare confusing album, from which I didn't get anything out of a single listen. It may be an unfair assessment, but this doesn't deserve more than one star. Maybe more listens would change the situation.
I thought about a 2, but I couldn’t make it through the whole album and that’s usually a 1
I don't remember you oh wait broadly negative 1 star
Could not finish. Maybe have to try again.
I listened to the monstrosity of Roxy music. It has bad vocals singing horrible songs, each sounding worse than the last.
I just can’t with the 70’s theatrical glam rock. Too much drama, like dropped-out theater kids trying to prove they have talent.
Niet echt speciaal - geen liked songs - niet veel bijgebleven ookal heb ik sommige liedjes meerdere keren beluisterd
I don't think I will listen again. It was strange and experimental but didn't resonate with me.
Trash
Nope!
That album was the last thing I needed first thing in the morning.
Remake/re-model is chaotic fun and even rips off Day Tripper but i cant get past the whiny annoying vocals Is there something sounds like an attempt at Bolanesque vocals but just sounds like a goat wailing Virginia plain is another example of what could have been for the want of a decent vocalist
I was sure I liked Roxy Music before I listened to this. Now I’m not so sure…
My grandpa used to sing songs in, as he described it, "a wavery voice" to try and make us laugh. Little did I realise at the time, this was actually a pretty accurate Bryan Ferry impression. This was not for me. I listened to the first track three times, not because I liked it, but because I kept trying to listen to the album and struggling to get past track two. Virginia Plain was the only song I knew before going into this, and its probably the highlight of this album, yet I would still categorise it as "fine, I guess". Irritating but not completely unlistenable, so by rights I should be giving this a 2/5 based on my self imposed scoring system, but I realised that when it ended, I was actively pleased it had stopped, so: 1/5
I did not need to listen to ts before I die 💀
Track 1 was ok, not really my thing, but listenable. Track 2 was dogshit, the unmistakable stench of Eno was all over it. A quick check on wikipedia confirmed it, it's an Eno job! Fast forward to track 3, a little bit better. Then it went tits up again.
Noiosa
I didn’t enjoy this one. Art rock usually isn’t my thing and this album reiterates that. Also, I find that projects associated with Brian Eno aren’t really my cup of tea. To each his own, but I’ll be happy to skip past any more Roxy Music albums.
Um, not my favorite. I listened to it through my computer while working and during one of the songs I spend two minutes trying to find out where the construction (or something my recognized as a construction site) noises were coming from. I thought I had some other Firefox tab autoplaying a YT video or something, I was hunting for a few minutes until I realized it was just part of the song -- after I paused it. No thanks.

Terrible music
Sorry, boring
This is the 43rd album I’m rating. I’ve heard of Roxy Music and I still can’t believe there isn’t a woman in the band. I’ve never listened to the music though. Adding to my Playlist - Would You Believe? and Bitters End. Not Adding to my Playlist - Re-Make/Re-Model, Ladytron, If There is Something, Virginia Plain, 2HB, The Bob (Medley), Chance Meeting, and Sea Breezes. Virginia Plain - I wonder if I should rate this because this is on the US version? All in all I liked 2/10 songs. Wow. This really wasn’t that good. It wasn’t even that interesting either but maybe that is just because the band was really influential.
Apart from "Virginia Plain", definitely not to my taste at all!
Weird and out there in a way I don’t vibe with
Not great. Felt a bit lost through this trying to keep track of the multiple styles in each song
Like the B-52s had an unholy love child with a worse arctic monkeys and there were no plans or song structures and the singer was a budget Bob Dylan. I will not be listening to this again. Sea Breezes was one of the worst songs I've ever heard.
Really didn’t speak to me
1. remake - 1 2. ladytron - 1 3. zomething - 1.5 4. virginia - 0 5. 2hb - 1 6. the bob - 1 7. chance - 1 8. believe - 0 9. zea - 1 10. end - 0
Brian Eno's band, I'm guessing he's the most represented person in this project between Roxy Music, his solo efforts and the albums he produced. He has the famous quote about the Velvet Underground and there are moments where you can hear the influence. A lot of bands loved Roxy Music and I simply do not understand it. David Bowie, yes. The Sex Pistols, no. The Bob (Medley) revisits a theme from If There Is Something and expands on how terrible it is. Art rock is generally not a good genre. The album gets worse as it goes on. What happened to bands in the late 60s that made them think that an album with random guitar distortion in the background was appealing? Drugs?
It's another band I have zero experience listening to, but let's give it a whirl. I listened through this album and really couldn't tell you anything I remember about it. It blends with some bands from the time period, but other than that. To the pit of Misery.
My testicles are smaller having listened to this.
Didn't find anything for me here on this album, overall boring and... not very good. Singer reminds me of a worse version of David Byrnes as well. I'd say this borders between weak 2 and strong 1, but haven't had a 1 in a long time so I feel adventurous to explore other ratings as well. The reason it tips the scale towards 1 was that it was so uninteresting, and actually sounded a bit bad a times.
The singer sounds like a part time high school drama teacher who just got off a 12 hour flight, drunk, ears clogged, and the airline lost his suitcase where he packed his inhibition and sense of melody.
Album cover doesn’t match voice of singer.
70’s
Tää menee jo rasauttavan puolelle. Ei oo mun bändi.
Not for me. Tried too hard. Bad singing.
This is pretty weak shit. Sea Breezes is in a class of its own by how much I hate it. The singer has the absolute worst tone on that track.
I think it started well
no.
Not my taste
get away, had roxy before and rated 1star
I may be in the top 0.1% of Brian Eno listeners on Spotify... But I don't got time for this shit today.
girl this album is unlistenable
Ugh. Bryan Ferry's wittering, warbling voice. The music is average, nothing special - except Brian Eno's synth flourishes, which show what he would go on to be capable of. Really not a fan of this album though, and I struggled to get through it. I guess it was musically quite whacky and different at the time. It's personal, though. I just can't bear the singing style, which grates on me. Not so bad when the singer stops singing. (The album cover is pretty basic.)
Weird but ultimately not interesting.
1/10 it's shit
Didn’t enjoy
I know that 1 album may not be indicative of their overall sound, but if you were looking for the early 70s version of Nickleback, you found it. I take that back, these guys are worse.
Trash, didn’t like it
Nothing here worth committing to memory at all
Too artsy and pretentious for me. I found Bryan Ferry's vocals especially annoying with that vibrato thing he does. I guess I am just not appreciative of the "avant-garde"
Weird. Every song almost felt like a different genre. Wouldn’t go out of way to listen again
His voice is so annoying. F**k me!
You know when you meet someone and you know it’s not going to go well and then as the conversation progresses, it gets worse and worse. That’s what listening to this album was like.
Not great. As influential as RM is, I never seem to appreciate them at all. 1.5/5
Not the sexy music implied on the cover
I can honestly say that if I heard any single one of these songs in any random streaming app I would get out my phone, open the app, and press skip.
The very last song was kinda fun. Probably just added last minute. Otherwise I didn't enjoy this album at all. Don't know why this is regarded as any good.
Nothing stuck with me from this album other than: that was weird.
No bueno
Okay what the hell.
Maybe it’s a style over substance thing, but I’ve never understood the appeal of Roxy Music. Compared to their peers: I like Hunky Dory, I like Transformer, I like 10cc but this just sounds like unpleasant noise to me.
First time listening: 3/9 songs liked Eh. I don't think glam rock sits with me well. The Theatrics are cool and all, but not something I would listen to on Sunday mornings out of the blue. Very interesting musical ideas from each song though. No song saved
What a borefest
Considered turning it off during the first track; turned it off during the fourth.
Thanks, but NO.
Not that into it
I get that this is supposed to be progressive rock, but this didn’t connect with me at all. The voices were grating and music was ok at times (horns!), but at others was awful noise. It’s just mostly bad, in an uninteresting way. 1 extra star for effort/ concept. I listened to some of their 80s stuff after the album and liked it a bit better
Don't know Caetano Veloso at all... Top track: Soy Loco Por Tí, América
