Reviews (page 12 of 13)
Stairway to Heaven is hard carrying, but this band, this album, is a staple for a reason. Yes, rock is predominantly hot ass, but even if my interest waned there and again during this listen, it's far and away some of the best I've heard on this list. Kudos for being even a little bit interesting!
as primeiras músicas eu achei um pouco enjoativas, mas, a partir da terceira música, eu comecei a gostar. gosto de músicas longas, porém, fica meio difícil de eu ouvir no dia a dia.
Classic - not all my style but appreciate the legendary group
Well, again Led Zeppelin. I understand their significance, but, as Stairway to Heaven stays my favourite song of theirs, I don't think I can be considered a true fan.
I'm probably one of the few people worldwide, that find led zeppelin kind of overrated. Same's for this album. Of course we have all time classics like Stairway To Heaven, but most of the other songs sound kinda generic. Maybe it's due to me lack of appreciation for Led Zeppelin, but I couldn't really enjoy listening to this album.
Battle of Evermore - makes you feel like you're in Ella Enchanted waiting in the forest for the next mythical creature to come in and transport you to the next scene. Rock n Roll was far more interesting, although battle of evermore has more enchanted imagery and powerful movement in the language used. Hello Stairway to Heaven - Classic. When the Levee Breaks is your favorite.
It’s good just not great. I know most of these songs are probably classics but it didn’t click. Led Zeppelin is a pretty good artist too so I would have thought I would liked this more. Once again not the best not the worst.
Black Dog - 3/10 Rock and Roll - 7/10 The Battle of Evermore - 6/10 Stairway to Heaven - 6/10 MMT - 8/10 FS - 5/10 C - 9/10 W - 9/10
Zeppelin is obviously incredible. It may be my favorite rock band, but IV may only be my 4th favorite album from them.
More blues than I thought
agregue black dog a mi playlist.
Chalk it up to overfamiliarity or what have you, but these days I tend to stay away from my copy of LZIV. While I rank “The Battle of Evermore” and “Going to California” among the best Zeppelin tracks, I long ago decided I never needed to hear the likes of “Rock and Roll” or “Stairway to Heaven” again (based on this listen, “Misty Mountain Hop” might be joining that list). This album might be the one that best encapsulates what Led Zeppelin was about and solidified their place in the rock firmament, but I think they put out more interesting albums more deserving of space on this crowded list.
Sure.
It's good, but putting the louder songs at the end was a bad move cuz I had gotten used to the "slower" songs and the louder stuff just gave me a headache
Older America not my kind of style but there were 2 songs that are timeless
It might be a classic but not my taste of music.
This is the second Led Zeppelin album I've gotten this week (the debut being the first one I've ever listened to). This one has a more classic rock/experimental/groovy feel. I particularly enjoyed "When the Levee Breaks". Though the music is good in this album, Zeppelin's first album comes across as more powerful and significant to me.
Weirdly, at least to the best of my knowledge, the first time I have ever listened to a Led Zeppelin album in full. Fairly familiar with almost every single song on here, so it's not like there were any surprises for me, but anyway my thoughts on this as a cohesive album... As far as "classic rock" goes, pretty much as good as it gets. I get everything on here and click with it immediately, it's immensely influential to so much of the music I listen to on a daily basis, and contains some genuinely great performances from every member. That being said, I can't really ever see myself listening to this as an album listening experience again. Makes it very hard to rate. Cause it's "good", I just don't really like it that much! I don't know what to say. It is what it is. Whatever. Also stairway to heaven is probably the single most overplayed and overrated rock song of all time alongside free bird (which I actually like a lot for the record lol). Would gladly never listen to stairway to heaven again.
Не так плохо как предыдущий альбом. Есть что-то интересненькое и мне даже понравилось парочка песен. Однако тоже не совсем мой жанр. Просто неплохо
significantly stronger instrumentation than the previous album i heard of theirs. i still don't think i love it but there's much more to appreciate here. most of my attention is towards the drumming of john bonham as i really like what he's doing here. the guitars are good and flashy, but i don't think they'd work without how punchy the drums are. on the other hand, i still really do not like robert plant's vocals. i find him to be deeply offputting. the opener tracks and the closer "when the levee breaks" are probably the highlights. bit of a lull in the middle.
база, но опять таки бенгеров не так уж и много
Best led zeppelin album I heard so far! It’s alright, some of the songs even great but it’s a lot too
Okay
Led Zeppelin no es mucho mi tipo de musica pero me gusto going to California
Not a big fan of led zeppelin but i still appreciate this. Ig fav is “Stairway to heaven”
This album was ok. I’m not really ever a fan of classic rock but it was pretty good for what it is. I would give it a solid 5/10. It just was. Best song imo was “Going to California.”
I spent this album feeling sick to my stomach, on the verge of a nervous breakdown over the state of the country. This might be the quickest the lyrics to an album have ever made me viscerally cringe; hearing Robert Plant sing about making a child burn and sting for the way they "shake that thing" made me physically recoil from my car speaker. I also kept wanting to hear one of the riffs in Black Dog as the build-up intro The End by The Beatles; altogether a very weird experience with that song. Excepting that intro, however, this album has a generally pretty good groove to it, though I don't find it as compelling as Led Zeppelin III. That album just seemed more varied and adventurous to me, whereas this one just doesn't excite me all that much. The notable exception is Going to California, which is an incredible song and stands head-and-shoulders above the rest of this album; I also find When the Levee Breaks to be a very groovy and worthwhile cover, which is refreshing to hear after my experience with The Rolling Stones' self-titled debut a few days ago. The familiar hits like Rock and Roll and Stairway to Heaven are obviously quite good, and I completely understand their acclaim, even if the entire experience doesn't come together as more than the sum of it's parts for me. Highlights: Rock and Roll, Stairway to Heaven, Going to California, When the Levee Breaks
It's okay, very good music and execution but gets a bit repetitive.
Molto bello ed è stato un grande amore, ma non risuona più come una volta, e al momento non voglio averlo tra gli album preferiti
Good rock
Well this is a big one. Certainly an album to listen to before you die, but did I need to listen to it again before I die. I'm not so sure. Some music gets more personal and powerful the more you listen to it. This is not in that category for me. Admittedly I'm not particularly interested in 70's classic rock, but I've heard all of these songs so many times that they bore me. This is a tough one to rate. Yes, it's technically excellent, yes it's a big freakin deal, but I don't like it that much. Sounds like 3 stars and get out of here without upsetting anyone too much. I do kind of like "When the Levee Breaks", killer bass line.
not bad I would probably start to like it more after a few more listens
My least favorite Zep album.
I don’t know if it’s nostalgia listening to this growing up because I don’t think I’d like it now but I liked listening to this.
Didn’t like the vocals and constant contrast between high and low.
Not gonna lie, this one took me back. This was a record from my childhood that was ubiquitous as a teen. It was played everywhere by everyone. I can actually recall hearing it being played as dance music by several strippers in a bar in Northern Canada as a teen. Stairway To Heaven indeed as a teenager. Probably appropriate as the song is about a woman who takes everything but gives nothing back. I’m sure there is a life lesson there. Don’t get me wrong, Aerosmith was popular as well. Back in the Saddle, Dream On. Strippers had a pretty good musical sense back in the day. As for this record, Black Dog and Rock and Roll are the true standout tracks in my mind. As a Led Zeppelin album it really is a mash up of the heavy rock of II and the folk rock of III. To say that it has been mythologized as the foundational recording of heavy metal for me was a stretch. It really is an uneven record and almost experimental. There is a blues track (When The Levee Breaks), a female vocal by Sandy Denny on The Battle of Evermore which is the only female vocal in Zep’s catalog. And to be clear, any track that has Mandolin on it is a folk song. Same goes with the ballad Going to California. Heavy Rock it is not. So, why the hype? As a kid, it really was Stairway To Heaven that was the attraction with its 3 levels of instrumentation moving from acoustic to electric and Plant’s superb vocals. That track encompasses in a single song every other song on the record. It helps that it is all anchored by Bonham’s drumming allowing the others to indulge in their whims. At least that is how I saw it. In my town, no one got to side 2 of the record. No one flipped it. Ever. I was in college when someone I was dating tried to get me to play side 2. I told her we just don’t do that. Jimmy Page was a Satan worshiper and that was his way of tempting everyone to join Satan. Or perhaps that’s what I told to Jehovah witnesses who were trying to convert me to follow Jesus. It was a long time ago. Anyway, I have since listened to side 2. None of it grabs ya like side 1. Everyone should just be honest and admit that while the musicianship is outstanding, no one ever paid good money to hear any of the songs on side 2 live and more importantly, not a single fucking stripper ever took he clothes off to any of the songs on side 2. It’s a good record, but if half the record is not stripper worthy, then it shouldn’t be on this list.
This album was already 8 years old when I first heard at the age of 13 I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I don’t really “get” Zeppelin. Even though this is perhaps one of their better efforts it still just doesn’t do it for me!
Not for me in a good way
Yeah boiiii Black dog, great opening track 3/5 for me
No stairway, DENIED!
classic, sold album
Another Zepp album... The Battle of Evermore has that Stairway feel I prefer to their 'harder' stuff. Oh, Stairway is actually here. Going To California has a nice sound, reminiscent of much later soft folk indie. Best track (other than Stairway) - The Battle of Evermore, Going To California 3 stars
started off really strong, LOVED the guitar on the first 3 tracks but kinda lost me towards the end
This album is home to some classics from the cracking Black Dog opening track with a killer riff to the beautiful Stairway to Heaven. However, I felt a little let down by most of the other tracks since I hold these songs to such a high standard.
cute just not songs i would add to my playlists
Album’s best : Starways to heaven
Rock uit de tijd van mijn ouders.. niet slecht maar ook niet echt mijn smaak
Tenia ya guardadas 3, Going to California y When the Levee Breaks me las quedo. Muy cortito y vibes de ir por la montaña rápido perro tranki con el coche
Love the Led Zeppelin sound, I was vibing throughout the whole album. Stairway to Heaven is a phenomenal song. Other than that one, no song sounded too unique; nothing really awed me or made me stop in my tracks. Nevertheless, a good sounding album, and that’s all that really matters to me with music.
I wasn’t a huge fan of this album, it’s a good album just not really my taste. However I did find a few songs I liked such as going to California and when the levee breaks.
This is rock and roll. Really iconic songs, Stairway to Heaven and Black Dog. This would be good to run to.
I get why this is such a beloved album, the majority of it is not my favourite though.
If I heard this in 1971 my brain probably melted by how innovative it sounds.
It was good. Already knew some of the songs.
Its alright, 3 clears. "When the Levee Breaks" might be the greatest song ever though.
It was an alright listen. I love rock and especially metal but I've never liked Led Zeppelin. It's so boring. Black Dog and Stairway to Heaven are classics. Rock and Roll is just an alright fast rock song. When the Levee Breaks is a interesting tune that I enjoyed a bit but everything else on here is just boring especially The Battle of Evermore. It may grow on me in the future but as it stands now this albums is just alright.
Annyira nem tetszett ez az album. Volt rajta egy-két szám ami bejött, de a többit annyira nem szerettem.
It's okay. Don't get the hype
I rly like progression in stairway to heaven. The two opening tracks were quite redundant, and that’s a common thread I’m seeing.
Pretty classic album
Another Led Zep only 7 albums later… Too many ordinary and forgettable tunes. Gulf between top and ordinary. 1. Rock And Roll 2. Stairway To Heaven 3. When The Levee Breaks
Klassikoita klassikoiden perään. Paljon itäinen edes tiennyt kuuntelevani Led Zeppeliniä. Stairway to Heaven muunmuassa.
Lowkey sounded like the Beatles to me as someone who doesn’t listen to either.
My dislike of Classic Rock has less to do with the music and more to do with the old dudes who say it's the only music worth listening to. Some of these songs have become annoying due to repetition. Some I still enjoyed, but I have no desire to listen again soon. Favorite song: Stairway to Heaven 3*
Liked Going to California
Nice and average. Fresh and soulful, but nothing out of box, lil generic
Good classics, but I didn't realize how impatient I was listening to these 7-8 minute long songs.
So Led Zeppelin-y
This felt much more like what I know of Led Zeppelin than LZII. I don't like it quite as much as II, but Rock n Roll is a classic (was familiar with John Lennon's cover lol)
Besser als 2, nicht so gut wie 1 und 3
Bonus point for getting Sandy Denny, I guess? This one's never wowed me like it has everyone else, though I'm more amenable to the pretty moments than I used to be. I was even enjoying the intro to Stairway this time! But this one's still just an album of moments for me, rather than the songs as a whole ever doing much.
I'm a self professed Stairway to Heaven hater, but man, in the middle of that album, it really does add a lot. That transition from "The Battle of Evermore" to "Stairway to Heaven" is beautiful. 3/5
Started off ok, Black Dog was fine. Picked up with Rock And Roll, that was pretty fun. The Battle Of Evermore had a nice story in it, along with some great guitar. And then there's Stairway To Heaven. Classic track, totally incredible. Great progression throughout the song, going between slower and faster tempos. The rest of the album went along smoothly. Misty Mountain Hop was some solid rock, and Going To California was a nice slower jam. Had fun listening to this, especially the guitar work, some really fun stuff here. Best song: Stairway To Heaven
Så jävla svårt. Man borde väl inte ge ett mellanmjölksbetyg till det här? Ändå är jag där i mitten och harvar. …Och att Offside avhandlade deras Live Aid-haveri just idag. Det kan inte vara en slump 😵
Some killer tracks, a lot of filler. It starts incredibly strongly but is dragged down with the folly elements and feels a mess. The second half for the album is weak, in my opinion, songs 5, 6, and 7 just dull.
Jugend
When the Levee Breaks...so epic. This is not my favorite Led Zeppelin album but it's definitely the one that makes me appreciate their blues roots the most. Stairway to Heaven, classic, but actually feels a little out of place on this one imo.
Going to California a staple from childhood I didn't realise attributable to Led Zeppelin. Favourite track probably When the Levee Breaks. After only a few listens I gather it is an album that would get richer the more times it is played. Overall impression - cool.
I didn’t listen!
later
This is the fifth album of Led Zeppelin that I've listed to via this site, and it's comfortably the weakest of the lot so far. The other four have received 4 or 5 stars, but this is not at that level. Stairway To Heaven is obviously a classic track, but even that couldn't make up for the rest of the album. It wasn't bad, as in unlistenable, but it never grabbed my attention.
It's fine I guess. Stairway to Heaven is cool and undoubtedly one of the most iconic guitar solos ever, but overall Led Zep gets a bit samey. Opening with an 8 minute track that doesn't really go anywhere is certainly a bold choice
Hate the vocals but the riffs and the drums are still good
Who knew Led Zep are really just a folk group? With a guitar! Apart from the amazing Rock m Roll, this is very well sculpted overblown claptrap. Stairway To heaven chief among them. The great relief being that I won't have to listen to it again (it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be).
I got wordle in 2 guesses. I used clown as my first word and blunt for my second guess. 3*
It’s of course very good. I don’t love Zeppelin. I just know it’s important.
hahaha avisa bbs
I ended up enjoying this much more than I thought I would. Listened to it twice.
7/10
Led Zeppelin is a band to outgrow. They have amazing riffs, and "catchy" songs which is admittedly quite an achievement for a hard rock/metal band. Meanwhile, the lyrics stimulate the teenage brain. But as Hayley Williams (Paramore) sang: "Some of us have to grow up sometimes If so, if I have to, I'm gonna leave you behind" And that's what I did when I came of age.
Jimmy Page's pet project turned super group crank out more than serviceable rock standards on their fourth album, but I don't believe they age well. It isn't that their music doesn't sound great and relevant, there just isn't much to the band beyond the sensational introductory listens. For example, Misty Mountain Hop (my favorite track) is a tight jam of a song about protests. Not only was Led Zeppelin not known for their protest posture, but the song suggests retreating to the Misty Mountains which doesn't make sense in reality or in Tolkien. If they had a great writer in the band, this album would be even more popular... and rated higher for me.
A great album but it didn't leave much of an impact on me. I would never go out of my way to listen to any of these songs, but I also wouldn't object if I encountered any of them in the wild. 3.5
I've never listened to this album, but I've heard it. So many of these songs are part of rock's DNA that they're almost impossible to have missed. I spent my adolescence and early adulthood deeply hostile to Led Zeppelin as the embodiment of clichéd cock-rock. I'm mostly indifferent toward them these days, but I liked this more than I expected. It's not something I'll likely revisit, though, and I never need to hear "Stairway to Heaven" again.
Blah
Pretty enjoyable, but not super memorable outside the hits.
This feels more like what I was expecting from this list. A classic album that I’ve never listened to. I felt cooler the whole time this was on.
I enjoyed this album, but there’s reason I only know the famous songs. It was a good album, almost certainly an important album to have listened to…. It it was, at the end of the day, *just* a good album. Although, I didn’t realise that this was where the entrance music for Matt Lucas’ George Dawes on Shooting Stars came from… but I’m not sure that should be my key takeaway. 😂
Gonna be so for real I don’t get all the hype for Stairway to Heaven. it was good I guess but *that* good? Idk maybe I’m just not seeing something it seems like everyone else does. Best song: When the Levee Breaks Notable(s): Misty Mountain Hop
Has some bangers
It was pretty good.
V/rv
I like all the less popular songs on this but I’m more of a Stones fan
fhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah sure
By the time IV (also known as the untitled fourth album) dropped, Led Zeppelin were already rock gods walking among mortals—but here, they sounded just a little more down to earth. Less bombastic than II, less murky than III, and more melodic than both, this is Zeppelin at their most accessible, if not their most inventive. Robert Plant reins in some of the banshee shrieking, though the three least effective tracks feature his most unfiltered vocal wails—funny how that works. Still, the highlights are undeniable: "Rock and Roll" charges forward on the back of John Bonham’s thunderous groove; "The Battle of Evermore" adds mystical mandolin shimmer courtesy of Jimmy Page and a guest vocal from Sandy Denny that elevates the whole affair; and of course, there’s that song—"Stairway to Heaven"—which builds from delicate folk into full-blown rock transcendence. But don’t sleep on “Going to California,” a pastoral acoustic ballad that might actually rival “Stairway” in quiet depth, or “When the Levee Breaks,” a seismic closer with one of the most iconic drum sounds ever laid to tape. Not flawless, but undeniably iconic—IV is where Zeppelin stepped out of the mire and etched themselves into classic rock marble.
the hits are REALLY hits
Me decepcionó bastante. 6/10->3/5
i never cared for led zeppelin
Stairway to Heaven is an excellent though somewhat overhyped track. That alone should give a score of at least 4 but unfortunately there is too much dross on this album so it's not getting more than 3.
How many Led Zepp Ellin albums are on this list? I swear this is the second one I've had in as many weeks.
I still think this is one of the most overrated albums of all time. 6/10 because it has Stairway but 5/10 without it... really such sub-par songwriting and I don't get why it's so beloved
Well, "Stairway to Heaven" is definitely a good song. But overall, Zeppelin ain't my cup of tea.
Decent album from them, liked III better, but this record was still good. Has its good and bad.
It's just not doing much of anything for me, unfortunately. Pleasant enough to listen to, but blends together, and nothing really sticks out too much.
I can see why people like it, but other than Stairway, it’s largely forgettable. Creedence did it better
There are a lot of reasons to hate boomers, but listening to this and thinking “yeah, Mr. LED can sing” is a top 20 reason.
Second Led Zeppelin album on this list. Enjoyable enoug but I wouldn't relisten.
One of the most overrated bands of all time. The musicians are excellent but Robert Plant’s vocals are just obnoxious.
I acknowledge their greatness, but they just don't do it for me.
Algunes cançons me sonen a Beatles, començ a pensar que es sa meva ignorància.
No more classic rock pleeeeeeaae. Sandy Denny good. All good, just unable to really provide much more than thumbs up and yes over album length.
Stairway to heaven!!
eu sou do rock. 3,5
First and last track are all time bangers. I don’t love the middle.
going to california is great big fan of folk led zeppelin
3,5/5
lotta hits but i'll never like led zeppelin
A few well know classic rock songs.
am i the only one that is always disappointed when the levee breaks opens and it's not the Bestie Boys? Stairway is a fast forward but otherwise it's oretty solidly good. 3.5
131/1089 - I'm going against the grain here but this is honestly one of the weaker Zeppelin albums for me. The songwriting overall is very redundant (slightly related too is Side A is all in the same key of A minor [arguably there are some A major ones I guess but it's still all A]), and I'm not a fan of the constant starting and stopping on Black Dog. Stairway to Heaven is good but definitely overplayed and the start and end of When the Levee Breaks was pretty cool.
-i can’t get over how incredibly powerful this whole album is. lyrics, instrumentally, Robert’s voice. it must’ve been absolutely incredible hearing this come out in 1971… i know my dad’s a huge fan -though it didn’t all appeal to me personally, it was still a super fun listen. gotta hear some more stuff by them someday, maybe my rating will change -Favorites are Black Dog and When the Levee Breaks
it was good!
Similar to III, some of the greatest guys to ever do it and they do it well here
pretty decent. high 3/5
Сложная группа в моем сознании. Вот чесслово, просто окэй. Лучшая песня - Stairway to Heaven.
I have a few problems with Jimmy Page. Having a child as a girlfriend might have been overlooked in the 70s but it leaves a weird taste in the mouth now when listening to his music. He looks exactly like Geert Wilders, which isn't anyone's fault, but is a bit disconcerting. I also don't love him as a guitarist or producer. I know that he was very talented, and in the context of the time was doing great things, but Zeppelin's sound is small, tinny and underwhelming to me, and a lot of Page's guitar work just sounds sloppy. Hendrix, Deep Purple etc predate this and managed to have none of these problems, so it isn't a technological limitation. And so this album. As with all of their music, I feel it would have sounded vastly better if it were recorded a decade or two later, with a fuller, more epic rock sound. I much prefer the Kennedy Center live version of Stairway for this reason. It sounds like what the song should have been. There are obviously classic songs on here. Stairway, naturally, is one of the best rock songs of all time, even if it was plagiarised to some extent. Levee is brilliant, Black Dog is brilliant. I appreciate the Tolkien nerdery. I don't understand why this is seen as one of the best albums of all time, though. There's a fair amount of folky filler on here too, that is less effectively integrated into the overall than it was in Led Zeppelin 3. I don't hate it, I just also don't get the hype. Yes, it's bluesy, folky rock, and that's good stuff. Zeppelin's sound just doesn't do that much for me, ultimately, and their album tracks can verge into annoying territory, if anything.
3.5 - Classic Rock
I think I liked this more than the last led zeppelin. Could maybe bump to a 4 with more listening
Sure it was grand, was fun listening back and found I enjoyed when the levee breaks more than I did a couple years ago, however I was already familiar with the album and wasn't as excited by it as previous ones.
It was ok
First Listen - Only know 'Stairway to Heaven' I generally like Rock/Folk music. This is no different, easy enough to listen to. Not so much a fan of the first 3 songs felt like they had no structure and were just noise. . . 'When the Levee Breaks' is an amazing song.
Great listen!
This has been my least favorite Led Zeppelin listen so far. Still decent; listenable. Just not something I’d choose to put on. Stairway to Heaven is easily my favorite song on this album. The Battle of Evermore was sharp and almost painful. That song alone brings this album down a point for me.
Rock and Roll is incredible and one of my favourite songs by Led Zeppelin. Still, a couple of songs on this album didn't hit the same way and so it gets a slightly lower score than I expected.
I have never really loved this album. I've listened to it more times than I can count and outside of Stairway to Heaven and Going to California, it just really doesn't do it for me. I am a big time Zep I and II guy and think their early stuff kicks ass. I can't in good honesty rate this album above a 7/10
Respect
Love parts, think others are way overhyped
Very cool standard rock album for sure !! Def can hear it’s a lot of bands influence. Some good songs but a lot are a bit dated sadly
Me gusta Led Zeppelin entonces it was okey not great
As much as I adore going to california and stairway to heaven, I enjoyed LZ 3 way more than this one
MID ALBUM. (Stairway To Heaven is terrific.)
I just can’t connect with Led Zeppelin. Obviously, it’s all in there: riffs, rocking rhythms, “Stairway to Heaven” etc. Good stuff! Thing is, though, if I’m going to enjoy a load of dudes taking silly things – mythical wars, outre symbology, trees, fairies – way too seriously, they’ve got to be wearing corpse paint. It’s the only way I can handle it. And so I get through this album twice with a smile, enjoy the occasional bop, and get on with finishing dinner. It’s good! They won’t miss my deeper adulation, I’m sure.
The Zeppelin album I feel like I (we all) know the best. It's got some bangers for sure, but most of those I overplayed before my 12th birthday and now it's hard to focus without them just turning into background noise. Anyways, more solid blues based arena rock here. I know this was groundbreaking for the era it was made but it's hard not to let the effects of history diminish my interest in this band's catalog.
Better than I thought. Maybe I like Led Zeppelin?
Another offering full of hits.
Still struggling to enjoy Led Zeppelin; I think it’s Jimmy Page’s voice that grates on me. Instrumental bits are fine. Anyway, this one’s a bit up and down, but I managed to get through it 😜
I somehow can't believe that, as a 37 year old rock/metal fan, this is the first time I've sat down and listened to a full Led Zeppelin album. And I wonder if that has hurt my opinion of it - I know that these guys inspired generations of artists, and that's probably why it starts to sound like everything else out there! Black Dog, Rock and Roll, and Stairway are the big standouts, but everything else tended to mesh together for me - it's God's, very good, but not outstanding and certainly not making me want to go back and listen again. Maybe I'll soften next time Led Zep comes up, but not right now.
I wasn't that impressed with Physical Graffiti, but when Black Dog came on, I thought I was going to really like this album. However, once the first couple of tracks finished, the rest of the music just didn't grab me. At their best Led Zeppelin knock it out of the park, but a best of album is probably the only thing I'd listen to with any regularity.
same same: nach 2x led zeppelin in 2 tagen dann wenigstens noch Stairway To Heaven.
How did this get to be the popular one, outside of having Stairway to Heaven? I like Led Zeppelin but this one feels really overrated. When The Levee Breaks is great and Stairway to Heaven and Black Dog are good, but the rest aren't much to write home about. Led Zep I through III and Physical Graffiti are all way better.
Overproduced.
Amazing how popular every song on this album is. It really keeps dealing the hits. It’s also remarkable how fresh it still sounds, likely because it’s never left the airways. I love the driving rhythm section and the vocals are amazing.
A lot of dicks in high school liked this even though we were almost a generation too late. It’s good but I’ve literally heard almost every song on here 500 times and the ones that I haven’t harbor their own reasons. Pass.
Fine but I don’t think I’ll ever be a ‘fan’
Some good, some meh. 3/5
There are some wonderful moments on this album.
Black dog- good rock and roll- good the battle of evermore- uninteresting folk Stairway to heaven- no one is listening to this to hear the first 6 minutes Misty Mountain Hop- Fun guitar riff Four Sticks- slightly less fun than misty mountain hop Going to california- Another folk song When the Levee Breaks- A great Bonham tune I'd actually give it a 7 but you can't do half stars apparently. Black dog and Rock and Roll are ideal led zeppelin songs to me, and when the levee breaks and misty mountain hop are fun. They are an objectively skilled band all round, particularly Bonham, probably the best rock drummer of all time. But I hate having to listen to 6 minutes of boring music to get perhaps the greatest 2 minutes in music history on stairway to heaven. I guess the suffering makes the climax better? Anyways I didn't hate it, but if there are more zeppelin albums in this thing (which there are probably bound to be) hopefully they are later albums when they dropped the folk songs. I like folk, but these weren't interesting to me. Even with the Tolkien references.
Was slightly more impressed than I thought I'd be. When The Levee Breaks is a brilliant song. A couple of others weren't bad either. I personally can't stand anything with a screechy lead vocal and some of the other stuff sounds like Spinal Tap including Stairway To Heaven which I can't stand.
Not too crazy about this one. 7/10 Fav: Stairway to Heaven
This album was initially untitled with no details on the cover and is still one of the best selling albums in history.
Bit hit and miss for me. Some of the songs too weird for 4 stars
Hoi. Led Zepplin find ich übrigens e überragende band name. Han ez na drüber nahglese wieso und isch immer na coolio. Musikalisch heds mi nöd mega catcht. Stairway to heaven, aber scho e schöne ruhige song, susch hmmm. 3 - LED-lichterketti für min zepplin
Big 3
Fav song: Stairway To Heaven No one does like Zep. So cool to hear the influence they've had on modern music while going through their back catalogue. One of the best rock bands of ALL time - but I find the none-singles a little bland in this one. Stairway To Heaven is still one of the best rock songs ever recorded.
I was pleasantly surprised with this album. It wasn't anything great but it was good enough. First four songs were good and the rest was pretty meh, but overall fine
3+ Stars (9/15)
6/10 This was a mixed bag for me, some of it was enjoyable but overall not my style Extremely well produced and performed, but the voice of Plant just doesn’t do it for me A shaky start and a better second half Stairway to Heaven is legendary for a reason, very good It sounds derivative, presumably because it is heavily influenced by American blues rock, but also because it influenced so much that came after The blues and delta sounding stuff was deeply inauthentic with an American accent sung by a Brit Best: Stairway to Heaven
fine
Yo, album generator, Led Zeppelin is a 3 band for me. How many times do I have to tell you?
4. Starway to heaven. Tranquila y guay
Very much like Fleedwood Mac's Rumors to me. The good songs on the album have been so overplayed in radio and other media that I have no desire to listen to them and while it certainly isn't a bad album there is just nothing that really seems interesting when listening to it.
s/o rob plant x
Much of this doesn’t hit for me the way it used to. Largely because I find Plant obnoxious but also because it just feels like appropriated blues. “Battle of Evermore” is still cool though. “Stairway” is also pretty undeniably great as a composition even if I’m tired of it. “Going to California” is still pretty. And the actual blues cover “Levee” still rocks hard!
A couple of well known songs, yet not Led Zeppelin's best 6/10
It was fine. Not worth the hype but a few good tunes
Saved Prior: Stairway to Heaven Off Rip: When the Levee Breaks Cutting Edge: Rock and Roll Overall Notes: ? Not only do I not think this is a top 5 album of all time (as it currently sits on this site), I think it's barely a top 5 self titled Led Zeppelin album. Nothing is bad - it's still Zep after all - but I struggle to see what the big deal is outside of Stairway and Levee (which are both gargantuan tunes). LZIII is one of my favorites from this generator so the mediocrity of this album is shocking to me. Again, this is by Led Zeppelin standards, this would be a crowning achievement for most other bands.
Really enjoyable album. Some of the songs really rock. A few are a bit ponderous and folky and not so exciting.
Maybe I made the mistake of reading the reviews before I listened and everyone was saying it’s a masterpiece and one of the best album released, so I was expecting to really love it. Honestly, I kinda wasn’t like grabbed by it, it was enjoyable but I would run to put it on again. I felt the second half of the record better than the first half? Like from 4-8 were better than 1-3, and that Battle of Evermore was…interesting
They’re my favorite -SuLing
I didn't like it at all. Lots of the same kind of songs and everything just formed a pile of mush. Except Stairway to Heaven
Wild
Ok tier
Pompous, Hobbity, dirty rock and roll. Iconic riffs drown out the nonsense, at times great.
I'm writing this as I procrastinate writing a letter for English class, and I can say rightfully so. I really enjoyed the gradual diminuendo from louder and rockier songs like rock and roll to slower and quieter songs like the battle of evermore. Although most of the reviewers enjoyed the song - Stairway to heaven, I felt that it didnt stand out to me much. For me, the song that stood out was the battle of evermore ; the haunting repetitive melody that played in the background as the lead singer sang about the queen of light. The repetition in the last verse, altogether made a good listen
stairway to heaven is good
I enjoyed this one more that Led Zeppelin II
I really dislike Robert Plant's voice. Stairway is amazing but most of the rest of the album is a slog. I'm happy that I recognised Sandy Denny immediately.
I know it's their thing, but there is too much prog-folk nonsense on this. 3 solid songs, but not an album I'd return to
Ganz cool, hat mich überrascht, wie gut manche Songs sind
Eine gemischte Tüte
This album reminds me of my childhood spending time in the car with my step dad and his love for Zepplin and other bands of this genre. Nostalgic.
Surprisingly not heard this. A really good classic with a variety of interesting songs. Some tracks were a bit lengthy though without also maintaining interesting aspects throughout. Highlights: Black Dog Rock and Roll Misty Mountain Hut
OK
black dog- led zepplin is my dads favorite band and when it would play my mom would ask me whos playing and i would tell her led zepplin but i was always scared that one day she would switch it up on me and shed ask what band was playing and i would say led zepplin and i would be wrong. so theres that i guess. the songs fine. 5 or 6 rock n roll- 5 battle of evermore- 4 boring stairway to heaven- theres a lady whos sure all that glitters is gold and shes buyyyinng a stairway to heavennnn. my mom said no one should have to listen to this song again and she might have a point tbh. 4 misty mountain hop- 5 four sticks- 5 going to california- 4 or 5. feels like the lumineers when the levee breaks- 4 dad rock
Bit of a mixed bag. Big fan of the rockier tracks like Black Dog with rasping vocals where Page's guitar playing comes to the fore but not hugely into the folk tracks. Don't understand why they seem to alternate between style every other track - doesn't help the flow of the album. Eight tracks - three good ones...
Meh
Stufo di fingere che mi importi qualcosa dei Led Zeppelin
didn’t like it as much as Led Zeppelin III, but it definitely has some of their most well-known songs.
Бодренько. Но не более того. Слишком старо для меня, слишком этот дирижабль для меня сдут. 3/5
Definitely in the minority that doesn’t think this is a masterpiece, probably makes my music taste questionable to those who have given this 5 stars. I can’t really remember the last LZ album I had on this list and how this compares so let’s say they’re on a par?!
Ok album. Not exactly a fan in any way. I acknowledge it's importance and it's impact, but I don't particularly like the music on this album in any way. Musicality: 9/10 Musicality: Excellent execution with numerous standout moments. The musicianship is great on this album. I really don't like Robert Plant's voice though. Lyricism: 6/10 Decent, with some interesting lines or themes. Production Quality: 6/10 Good; well-mixed and clear. Artistic Expression: 7/10 Creative and original, with clear artistic vision. Cohesiveness and Flow: 6/10 Generally cohesive, with some strong points. Replay Value: 5/10 Moderate; some tracks may be worth revisiting. Average: 6.5/10
I think I will take the lift to heaven, might be more interesting music x
Stufo di fingere che mi importi qualcosa dei Led Zeppelin
Classique
Still not a huge Zep fan due to the overplaying in my youth, but this is really an album full of hits.
Didn’t have time to listen to the whole album, and would maybe give it 4 stars. This album isn’t really my style either but I think it was influential to the music I like, and this album is nostalgic for me. Also a classic.
Its a bit of a classic. For rock dinosaurs
Classic
Would I listen to it again: yes Is it a no-skip album: no Do I like it: yes*
Easy listening, was pretty decent
Going down to California pretty good folk
Not my thing but undeniably a classic
3.5/5
Ну... Я не испытывал отвращения. Уже хорошо, не?
Never been a great fan of Led Zep, but can't help but admire this effort. Musicianship is excellent and Plant has a classic rocknroll voice. This seemed a bit less bluesy and a bit more interesting than their previous work. Stairway to heaven - cliched for a reason, overplayed from radio stations to guitar shops, but that's cos it really is a well written story. Can't believe they brought in a Ian Stewart as guest pianist for RockNRoll, he pretty much just bashed the same one note for most of the song. Filler songs don't do it for me, but can see why they are adored. Drumming is just so great.
Some songs are so much better than some others it really sucks If everything was as good as stairway and going to California it's an easy 4.5
Mit Stairways to heaven ist das etwas ganz besonderes. Die langsamen stücke finde ich ziemlich ganios Mit dem Hardrock/Heavy metall kann ich nicht ganz so viel anfangen.
I enjoyed it, but I think I got more out of III. Stairway is possibly the most overrated track in rock.
very white, very heterosexual, but not as bad as I thought
“Going to California” and “When the Levee Breaks” saved this album from being boring to me.
I’ve never been a fan of this band. But, giving this album a fair listen, there’s a lot of great stuff here and it’s obvious why it’s a classic. I actually enjoyed many of the tunes. A pleasant surprise that might change my mind a bit.
Good Album - not a huge Led Zep fan.
When I was coming up, this was the Zepplin album of our time. It has the most of the classics. That said, I never bought a copy probably thanks to AOR playing it...a lot.
I find Robert Plant’s voice annoying now.
RIP and mad respect to Neil Kulkarni, the (as far as I know) originator of the "would I trust them to make me a sandwich?" test, for musicians in general but 70s rockers in particular. Anyway, probably pretty obvious where I'm going with this. Is this a behemoth of a record? Yes. Does it have some astounding playing? Again, yes. Do I actually like it? Nah, not a huge amount. I'm not such a fan of Robert Plant's histrionic vocal stylings to be honest. And would I let any of them anywhere near my sandwich? Would I fuck, the grubby-fingered, sleazy gits. If I'm ever in the market for a round of reefer-ash-with-a-hint-of-spunk on rye, I'll let you dudes know, ok? 😅
I know it's a classic but it doesn't emotionally connect with me.
Another one of those albums that started hopeful and then fell into the 3 star range. I look forward to listening to more Zeppelin tho! Favourite track: The Battle of Evermore.
I'm going to be a heretic here, but I thought this was good but nothing that stood out from a lot of the list. There are some well known classics here and I can't deny the energy and songwriting skill on show. But I didn't see what elevates it to great, I found his voice annoys me and the drop off from singles to album filler was steep.
Respeito, mas não amo!
meh. pretty played
Priiiima. Uiteraard stairway to heaven maar ook Black Dog lekker
I don't gravitate toward rock but did appreciate the energy of this album
Not really my type of music, but it was a good one! LZ has been one of the best groups in this genre music for decades! 👍
I like this album.
Undeniable in places, but corny af
LZ again ...I did enjoy them thru highschool (late 70's) but outgrew them when I got into more alternative and progressive rock, new wave and punk. I'm sure they are all great musicians, I just don't appreciate them so much any more. But I did have the sheet music for stairway to heaven and learned to play it in piano
Ok ok
I really enjoyed it. Good classic 70s rock. Now I know what Stairway to Heaven sounds like. Would listen again
I've heard this too much
Not my style
I really liked only the last song
Better than the last zed leppezin
Good ol' Led Zeppelin! Great guitar, I can take a bit, but not the whole album. Now that I've heard Dolly Parton do 'Stairway to Heaven', I like her version better. That was our High School Prom Theme song
I thought it was good but it did not really stand out to me
Led Zeppelin IV has definitely grown on me over the years, much like the band themselves. When I first heard it, I thought it was good but not exceptional. With each listen though, more layers reveal themselves, and I have come to properly appreciate just how strong the songwriting and musicianship really are. This album balances power and subtlety brilliantly. Black Dog has that swaggering riff and raw energy, while Stairway to Heaven builds patiently into something huge and timeless. It is easy to see why these songs became classics, but the strength of the record goes beyond just the big hitters. The production feels expansive yet controlled, and there is a confidence running through the whole album. It is one of those records that rewards repeat listens, each time offering something new. Favourite song: Stairway to Heaven. Iconic, layered and unforgettable. Least favourite: None. Every track feels like it belongs. Album artwork: Cool and mysterious. The absence of the band name adds to its timeless, almost mythical feel.
Band with a great basic rock sound that they insist on ruining with dun duh deeaauuh doodly doo guitar and wooahh wooahhh ohhhh womannnnn vocal solos. ex. the first part of the guitar solo on Black Dog rules and then it does the thing. I like the two silly folk songs with mandolin. I'd probably give this a 4 if it didn't have Stairway to Heaven. I did listen again as part of this exercise just to check I still don't like it. music: ...appreciated. (⌐-_-)
I get it, this is an iconic record from a band that blew the roof off of hard blues and bulging crotch blue jeans. The fact is it was so iconic that it soon became a caricature of a rock star band. Now I can't help but think of Wayne's World and Dread Zeppelin and Led IV is kind of ruined for me, except as a good corny laugh.
Very original name
Overrated yet decent tracks.
Meh. 3.5/5.0
Coulda sworn I've heard some of these songs before somewhere...
One of the most overrated albums of all time. Not bad tho, one of Zeppelin’s better albums but I prefer 1 and 2
Honestly, I'm sad I didn't like this more. It was pretty repetitive and the guitar lines were way more basic than I expected. A couple neat songs, but not the best as a whole. Fav tracks: Stairway to Heaven, Rock and Roll
Screechy voice, classic songs
I'm realizing I like Led Zeppelin tracks in isolation. As an album I just want it to end. Most of the tracks are good, I just get tired of listening to the man sing. Will I listen to again: 5%
Very Led Zepplin
I feel like a heathen but there are some innovative, iconic, talented beyond belief bands that have never quite reached my emotional core. Led Zep is one of them. I never liked Robert Plant’s voice and the whole experience is just missing the mark. I get how some of these songs are classic and have been part of the cultural landscape for so long that I don’t object to them. I just don’t choose to play them for pleasure.
Ok
All contractors in the country listen only to radio stations that relentlessly overplay the songs from this album. It's like no hardware store will sell you a bag of grout unless you show a piece of paraphernalia with ZOSO written on it. This album is the reason why I had to learn to try to fix shit by myself. Sure Page is an excellent guitar player but the band wasn't creative musically, were followers rather than leaders and continually stole music without giving credit. If you don't think that applies to this album, have a listen to Taurus by Spirit (Credit the Aug. 27, 2022 review of this album. See Led Zep: Was that so hard?) Their lasting influence on music was a bunch of other bands that were also followers but that didn't have Jimi Page playing guitar so were just plain boring. Not a great legacy. Side one had the three songs, Black Dog, Rock and Roll and Stairway, that set the standard for the term overplayed. Side Two is far less overplayed. Going to California is the only song on the LP I can still listen to. Very nice acoustic work by Page. Four Sticks and When the Levee Breaks are really kinda boring and they're long songs. Add to these two clunkers Battle of Evermore, which is also nothing to write home about, and we're talking north of 40% of the album's playing time. I can see the big three songs on Side 1 getting this album to a 4 but I really don't get how this bad boy makes it to the 1001's top 5 albums. They get -1 for the legacy of crappy bands they influenced and should get another -1 for the state of disrepair my house is in. I'll rate this generously.
1/5 - never listening again 2/5 - its good, but not for me 3/5 - would listen again 4/5 - I love it 5/5 - going in my playlist 1. "Black Dog" 2/5 2. "Rock and Roll" 3/5 3. "The Battle of Evermore" 1/5 4. "Stairway to Heaven" 5/5 5. "Misty Mountain Hop" 3/5 6. "Four Sticks" 3/5 7. "Going to California" 4/5 8. "When the Levee Breaks" 4/5 Good album, loved the instrumental sounds and guitar solos. Didnt like the vocals in some songs. 3.13 - would listen again
Had a few good tracks, but im not a fan of led zeppelin
3.5/5 Really strong start and the middle portion was good as well, but kinda lost its steam near the end. The first 4 songs were back to back fire. Kind of hard to choosse fav. song cuz Black dog, 2nd song and Stairway to Heaven was pretty good in their own right.
Less yelling than anticipated. Stairway to Heaven is well-known of course. Overall a surprise.
maybe ill revisit this; for now it just sounds like old people music
Ranking - 6.5 Favorite -Black dog Least favorite - the battle of evermore Sleeper - when the levee breaks
really loved some of the songs while others were eh
Meh
Would be IV star if I, II, III, and Houses of the Holy didn't exist
So many hits I’ve heard so many times. The screechy vocals always put me off but are so integral to Plant’s singing and Zeppelin’s sound.
I must repeat my last review, they all sound the same to me. Objectively good, rock n roll with distortion and mild screaming. In the right mood, nothing better. Otherwise 3 stars
Led Zeppelin not for me but this is a good album
It has Stairway to heaven, but it has some pure blues songs too that is nothing special.
Pioneers of music!!
Interesting listen. I knew some of the more famous tracks of course but not listened to the album before. At its worst, it's bad prog rock, at its best its thumping rock and roll.
Led Zep were one of my first great musical loves. Like all their albums, except Zep1, it has some bits you could do without and lyrically it is nonsense. But "When the Levee Breaks" is glorious.
Two one star songs and the rest is just average.
pas écouté en entier mais bon c'est un peu culte
I was beter
Har aldrig varit ett Zeppelinfan. Albumet har ju sina kvalitéer men det blir ändå bara en trea.
Black Dog on onnistunutta kikkailua, Stairway to Heaven tarpeettomassa eeppisyydessäänkin kaunis, ja Rock and Roll sekä When the Levee Breaks suoraviivaisuudessaan eeppisiä. Harmillista, että muille raidoille oireellinen, epäluonnollinen teknisyys rokottaa levykokonaisuuden uudelleenkuunteluarvoa. Puhumattakaan maahisista ja seikkailuista läpi hevosmiesten maiden. Bonus: kutosraidan "arvaa mikä tahtilaji"-peli.
It goes Bluesy, Folky then a bit country, but is unmistakably Led Zep. Not my favourite Led Zeppelin album, but decent. Three stars, verging on four because of Sandy Denny.
I may catch some flak for this one, but I'm not a fan. I've heard many of these songs before, obviously, but had never heard the whole album. Black Dog started us off nicely, but that's basically the only song I actually like on here. I have long maintained that Stairway to Heaven is not that good, and I continue to hold that opinion. It's just okay. And it is the second best song on this album, in my opinion. As for everything else, this album fell into the pile of many albums where I was just waiting for each song to end. If this was not Led Zeppelin, this album would fall into the realm of the 2s. But given its legacy, and perhaps me feeling bad about my bad taste, I feel that isn't a fair rating and instead it will get a bump up to 3. I just don't get it, man.
Mélange entre un rock plus lourd et un côté plus folk avec mandoline. Deux grands classiques qui assurent une reconnaissance immédiate.
