Reviews (page 12 of 13)

It was about what I expected of a Maiden album. Although I was not familiar with any of the songs on the album, they all did sound familiar.

A lot better than I thought, heavy metal isn't as heavy as I remember it. Reminds me of Rush is many ways.

Has some interesting moments, but I found it kind of repetitive overall. Ill come back to it though.

4/10 - not super hardcore but still not my thing

A true story. I once bought a new black Fiat 127 which had the number 666. It broke down 1 mile from the showroom and had to have a new engine. A good analogy for this album I think. 2/5 4/7/26

It's not as bad as I expected. For it's genre quite strong.

Not a heavy metal fan. This could’ve been worse though

I'll give my stock answer for this genre: it's not terrible, just not my cup of tea. At all. Never will be.

Fun for awhile, but it is so itself that you get bored eventually.

I prefer rock over metal I must say

My headbanger days are pretty much behind me, except for the highest echelon. These guys aren’t it

The 2 and last songs were good but everything thing else I didn't enjoy. I don't really like the dudes voice. All the solos were great. the drums were cool.

Ehhhh I find this to be a little too cheesy for me to enjoy

‘Did you know these guys can play guitar? They certainly seem on a mission to show that as much as possible on this album. Songs really drag on with self-indulgent solos- the overall sound is ok, but just didn’t do anything interesting for me.‘ This is what I wrote for the other Iron Maiden album on this list, and it holds up for this one too. A real lack of variety in this album that makes it a dull listen. Perhaps this was edgy in the ‘80s, but it felt uninteresting in 2026.

This is probably a good album but I can’t stand Iron Maiden.

Not my kinda music

Was not expecting to like this, and I wouldn't say I did, but I found more to appreciate than I anticipated, and that's not nothing.

I ran to the hills

Sabbath did the Sabbath-like bits so much better. And the rest is rubbish. Next.

I won’t criticize what I can’t understand. I added “Children of the Damned” to my playlist.

Just not for me

I like that this album sounds like how the cover art looks. Not my jam though.

The sound of this album isn’t really my thing, and I knew that from the beginning. Still, it gave off the same vibes as the action cartoons I used to watch when I was a kid. But it didn’t really resonate with me or leave much of an impact.

Album 87 Top 3 favorites off the album: The Prisoner, Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Number of the Beast The first time I heard Iron Maiden was on a road trip with my cousins. My sister and I were riding in our uncle and aunt's car (a treat!) and my uncle had some of their CDs in the car. I wasn't totally sure what to think, but I tried to like it. I haven't really listened to them since then (so in about... 15 years), so I think I'm coming into this pretty fresh. Some of it I liked, some of it I was lukewarm on. It's another case of vocals not always being my taste. I preferred the lower end of the register here. I haven't quite figured out what vocal qualities I like in heavier styles like this. Some of the vibrato here made sense, some of it felt like a bit much. I'm not well-versed enough in the genre to be able to pass any fair judgement, though, so I'll leave it at that. Instrumentation was solid across the album. I love a good guitarist. Hats off to that. The whole album had a consistent forwards motion without getting exhausted. It helped to have breaks like they did around 2/3 of the way through Acacia Avenue. They didn't lose energy either. It was nice to revisit the band! I don't think I'll add this to my regular rotation, but I'll keep it on that shelf in my mind that I browse through when I'm in a specific mood.

Not my cup of tea

2/5 хэви-метал - досвидос

It’s so goofy

Not really for me

I judged the cover and assumed I wouldn’t be able to make I through the album because it would be too screamy, but it was ok! 2.5 rounded down.

This was not as heavy as I expected, given what I thought I knew about Iron Maiden. Had never heard their music but appreciated the musicality, pacing, and energy overall. It seems kind of camp in retrospect, but can clearly see why they drew such a fanbase in the early 80s. Not for me, but better than I initially thought.

Just a bit too much musical theatre in Dickinson’s vocals, too much Spinal Tap in the lyrics. No sillier than say Ride the Lightning, guess, but at least Hatfield has the good taste to not be able to sing.

The cool guitar bits were the only thing this album had going for it

Me gustan mucho los instrumentales pero la voz me saca de onda que flipas. Pero puedo entender porque es un clasico.

[album #14] only on my 14th album and already another iron maiden. i don’t think 9 days was a long enough amount of time to rethink my iron maiden opinion because i didn’t like this one as much as i didn’t like the first for the same reasons. Songs feel same-y, too long, and i don’t like the singer’s voice. 2/5

Eh - not my scene. The older stuff is a bit better, but still too screamy for me

Not for me.

Did not like the music in general but appreciated the musician ship due to a tip.

I appreciate that this is a great album, but it does nothing for me personally.

I don't like metal. Looking at the ratings on this site, it is my least favorite genre and the only one below a 3 rating in the summary. I've had a run in the past month of quite a few of the worst of them, so I had another audible groan this morning when Iron Maiden came up from the generator. I had a roommate in college who loved metal, especially Iron Maiden. I recall once when Tom played one of the albums for us, just to try to convince us we were all wrong. None of us lasted more than a song or two. I was pretty certain I wouldn't last that long today either. I can't say I liked this album. I really didn't. But I didn't hate it either. It wasn't what I thought it would be, which was every song being about the devil or some other silliness. Don't get me wrong. I think in many ways the lyrics were silly, but at least there are some sort of serious topics. And much to my surprise, I actually thought Hallowed Be Thy Name was a pretty decent song. I'm not sure if that song (and a couple of others that didn't make me cringe) will be enough to lift this to a 3, but we will see.

No me gusta el rock loco, por 17372 vez

Es un montón que se me hace mucha información y me abruma

I’m not approaching this album with an open mind. Although, yes, I am, but I just relate too many things with its sound. It makes me think of older men, I don’t enjoy the singing voice, it sounds repetitive to me.

Not my jam. Very noisy with the electric guitar, the drums, mumbled lyrics, everything is loud, hard to pick out melody. Nope nope 2 stars

It’s time to play the gAaAaAaAaAaAaAaAame. If Hugh Jackman cosplayed as a metal head. Honestly kinda cringe. Remind me to give this 2 stars.

They are definitely technically and musically skilled and I appreciate the details and thought put onto each song. Props to them for drawing attention to the genocide of native Americans, although the song might come off to some as simply glorifying violence. But in the end not for me right now

Really missed my window for this, but then I turned 12.

alright, bit cringe, good production

Okay album, nothing special for me personally, some good guitar sounds but no catchy songs that caught my attention, lots of devil lyrics

Maybe I didn’t give it enough plays, it’s metal, just doesn’t do it for me most of the time

Yeah…to screamy hard core for me.

One good track Run to the Hills.

Good guitars but don’t like metal

Hat mir nicht gefallen

track 1 - corny vocals, cool guitar solo. Wouldn't choose to listen again. 3/10 track 2 - nice intro but again corny vocal. Guitar part is cool. 4/10 track 3 - guitar nice. vocals not as corny as previous. Actually enjoyed 6/10 track 4 - cool guitar solo. Again nice instruments bad vocal. 5/10 track 5 - prob best so far. don't like the theme though. 6/10 track 6 - whack, corny, least cool guitar solo. 4/10 track 7 - fun start, vocal ruins it. nothing special. 4/10 track 8 - a truly forgettable song 3/10 track 9 - pretty cool, but again vocals make it meh 4/10 Overall - Would have worked better as an instrument record. Unfortunately the vocals, both lyrics and delivery, ruin each track. I was not a massive fan. 4/10 Top 3 tracks: 1. The Prisoner 2. The Number of the Beast 3. Hallowed Be Thy Name

I think maybe this just isn't for me. I liked it a little but in general I didn't enjoy myself much. Not in the best mood so maybe I'm being a lil unfair

Glad it was relatively short.

They are so talented fr, like I really get it… it’s just not for me

I kind of plowed through this with my family on the car on Easter Sunday. That's kind of unfair to this album. I'm not 100% against it, I liked the other one of their albums on this list better. In this one the singing kind of got to me more. I would rather put on Kill Em All era Metallica or if I wanted to get more thrashed out at a skatepark or something, some Slayer. Maybe those are also on this list. I don't think I would put this one on my own.

No me gustó

It's just not for me.

i went full circle on iron maiden, i hated it before, the vikings song was really dumb, halfway through the album i started having fun, the song about american indeginous people came on and it was so dumb i immediately hated the whole band aesthetic and shreddy guitar solos again the vocals i guess are impressive? the lyrics are just stupid i think i just dislike straightforward storytelling in lyrics? maybe the overall sound of the music, which sounds like it could never have come from serious people being serious, talking about anything remotely serious sounding is just off-putting. I HATE IT

I can see how this has influenced plenty of bands (I can hear a bit of SOAD) and most songs are interesting but there’s nothing for me to come back to.

No es mi género pero no se me hizo pesada la escucha.

Listened to 1 song cos chayse said I have to. Fair. Guitar and drums aite but lyrics bit cringe. Meh.

'Listen to Iron Maiden, baby, with me.' No thanks.

not my style of rock music at all

Hugely influential heavy metal album that hasn’t aged well in my opinion. The quick drums and neat guitar harmonies are the highlight for me. 2.8/5.0

The Rob Reiner mockumentary is way better.

There will never come a time when I'll decide to sit down and play Iron Maiden. I don't hate it, but the theatrics and cheesiness of it all just isn't for me. Ironically it's the OG heavy metal, but I prefer some of the paths it went down subsequently

I've never been a 13 year old boy in the 80's but I'm assuming I would've loved this

I’m always surprised at how melodic Iron Maiden is. That doesn’t make me enjoy it anymore. But it’s a fun thing to re-realize.

They are very skilled but it doesn’t hit me for whatever reason. I can see why most love it but not for me. However, the closing track is awesome and if I was in a venue hearing this live I have no doubt I’d have a great time. Rating: 2.4

Sometimes I ask myself “is Iron Maiden bad, or is it just the sands of time making them seem so cliché?” And then I remember they had a skeleton named Eddie. TWO

Heavy metal rock is just not my scene. The long electronic guitar riffs and heavy drum beating just irritate my nervous system and listening to it for long time periods just gives to me a headache. I liked some of the segments of the songs that weren't so frenetic, but there wasn't an entire song that I liked; however, "Hallowed Be Thy Name" was the best as far as music, although I never understood all the words of the lyrics as at times the lead singer's voice was drowned out by the drums.

Ein beliebiger Tag Anfang April ~ morgens, mittags, abends ~ Kann mich nicht mehr genau daran erinnern, wann ich das Album gehört hab: Beim Sport? In der Bahn? Im Bett??

my first time listening to this. I think I'm familiar with one of the songs already from guitar hero or rock band or something. the instrumental parts were cool at times, but this kind of metal / hard rock has never really been for me, and this album didn't do anything to change that. a lot of it feels ripe for parody.

There was a lot of eye-rolling during this album. I feel like he's yelling at me, but it's somehow still boring and the vocals are incredibly grating. "The Prisoner" was so close to having an actual melody, but didn't quite get there. The guitar riff on "Hallowed Be Thy Name" was cool. I can see how this album would be appealing to teenage boys. It was not for me.

I prefer their debut album over this record.

Better for me than their first album, but still not really for me. Highlights: "Children of the Damned" and "The Number of the Beast"

Full of passion and energy, just not for me! Favourite track: Total eclipse

men raising their voice and being dramatic reminds me a bit too much of real life. and chill out about satan, bruce, i know youre so tough and twisted but youre doing too much honey. guitar and drums do be cool tho. 2.5/5

It wasnt too bad

For me, good metal largely depends on the vocals. A preference I guess. Dickinson voice doesn’t move me. Too pretty. Haughty. Bumptious.

grand respect, mais j’accroche pas. Les rifts sont sympas, vocalement c’est bien mais au final je me prend pas la claque d’énergie que j’attends du métal.

2.5 hours This isn’t my genre, but I know this is better than some of this era metal. But I would never listen to this on my own and that impacts my rating.

a good time, not really as I expected metal not comparing to the album covered mainstream but in its defense it was the pioneer of it probably banging at that time still a vibe could still be for demon hunters too bland, but cutting slack because my brain was conditioned from breakcore and doom maybe conditioned by movies using too much metal songs like this for scenes where the hero wins by the whim so it just becomes cliche

I think Satan will be disappointed to find out that his number is actually a 2.

A week later and getting another Iron Maiden album? It's all the same and that's not a good thing. Vocals are annoying.

The album cover scares me

Not my thing

We all know by now that the guitars gets me

I gave their last album a 2, and this is pretty much the same repackaged product, so...

De gitaar was echt leuk maar dit is abso niet mijn muziek

3 good songs the rest sound the same

Not a big metal fan, this hasn’t changed my mind. Found a few songs relatively enjoyable still

didnt finish, nothing felt special

I liked this more than I thought I would.

Album of my childhood. Not too bad now but bad memories of this on full blast whilst I’m trying to play mega drive

I imagine this is very popular with people think that the faster you can play guitar, the better a guitarist you are. 2*

I knew going into this album I probably was not going to like it. This genre has never interested me, so I was expecting the worst. However, it was actually not that offensive of a listen. I still didn't like it though. To me every song sounds too similar, and every song does the same thing. The whole thing comes off as very performative to me, "What's the edgiest thing to sing about while playing the most overstimulating guitar riff?". "Ooo 666!" I'm sure in 1982 this album actually felt daring and cool, but in 2026 it just feels like they're trying too hard. Overall the album is fine; monotonous, overstimulating, and a little cringy at times. Two stars. (Favorite track: 22 Acacia Avenue.)

very funny and shorter than i anticipated fortunately.

i'm not into metal

Run to the Hills reminds me of my dad. But the rest of the album sounds similar with not a lot of variance.

I didn't hate this. Maybe I'm coming around on metal, maybe I just hate thrash.

Not my favorite genre, but more melodic than expected. Run For the Hill stayed in my head for a few days

A lot of these songs sound the same but not in a neat country western kind of way. It’s feels like they were trying to find a sound and they absolutely nailed it with one of the songs but they spent a lot of tape trying to get there.

didnt really like it

Occasional intelligently designed sections but then let down by lyrics and generic-sounding stretches. Sometimes it's like espresso in your eye and others it's actually boring

First off, I've never really listened to metal as I don't think it's a genre I would like. The first song, Invaders, is interesting, especially because of the historical connotations of it. Currently I'm taking a course on British history, so it makes the song more enjoyable. The beat is good, I'm not a fan of the singer. He's good but the prolonged high notes are overdone, even though I believe that's a signature of the genre. Cool start to the 3rd song, The Prisoner. So far, the album feels very homogenous. I'm liking it more than I was expecting, however I'm not sure if I would listen to this on a daily basis. Run to the hills: I didn't enjoy the song itself, however the lyrics are definitely intense as they depicts the conflict between Native Americans and European colonisers. I'm really enjoying how all the songs seem to tell a story, mostly sad and horrifying. Overall, it's a nice album and I understand how people that like this genre would deem it as a great piece of music, however none of the songs really stuck out to me.

no es mucho mi estilo, si lo esuchara más a lo mejor lo terminaría pillando. 2,5/5

Never much cared for devil based hair metal

not music that I like, so probably an unfair rating . . .

Reminded me of Saves the Day in many respects. Liked it more that I anticipated. Nice drums.

Starting to become obvious that this list is written by a man of a certain age. The dramatic operatic singing is just a bit much for me this morning.

Technically proficient; not for me.

I don’t think I’ve listened to this since I was 13. It’s very silly. Is the humour intentional? Is Bruce self-aware? His phrasing doesn’t always match the music - does he know; does he care? At least he seems to be on the side of the consistently on the side of the underdog. Guitars better than expected. 2.5 maybe?

För mycket energi på ett sätt jag inte orkar, gapigt. Men gillar man instrumentrunkande så är det säkert bra

Lame. The album art is kinda cool

Sounds like van halen heavy Children of the damned The number of the beast

I wish I could hear this album live! It’s so well written. Some outstanding songs for me were ‘The Prisoner’, ‘The Number of the Beast’, ‘Run to the Hills’, and ‘Hallowed by Thy Name’.

** I wanna say, I've been listening to what's going on after finishing yesterday's album and... (the album's great) inner city blues is fucking amazing god! ... this means nothing to me Fav: Hallowed be thy name

This is not my flavour of metal. The music doesn't do much for me - its played very well though. My main issue is the vocals. Too damn showy. Too much wailing. It's like a musical stage show. I can't get into it at all.

I don't listen it but it was good

I liked this more than I thought I would.

Too shrieky, too fiddly, too much. I should like Maiden, people think I'll like Maiden, I do not like Maiden. I'm sure it's all very technically impressive but it leaves me cold, does not stir a thing within me. I remember the title track of this charting among all the 80s synth pop, going straight in at number 1, and wondering wtf was happening to the world.

I've never listened to Iron Maiden so I was glad to have the opportunity to give it a go. It's comically bad. Maybe it was relevant when it was released but, in this era, it's like a Spinal Tap spoof of early metal.

The lyrics are nonsensical. This is another album I'm liking far more than I thought I would when I started it. I don't love Bruce Dickinson's voice but it's a damn sight better than the growling, screaming and unintelligible vocal noises other metal bands pass off as "singing". Run to the Hills is the hit, maybe their biggest hit on any album.

At least the cover's good

I've heard so much about this band and didn't realize this was their most famous album. I listened to it and found it okay but nothing I would play again or consider iconic. A part of me suspects it's this bands aesthetic that really caught on. I couldn't tell you what each song had to offer but Hallowed Be Thy Name has some very interesting chord progressions and melodies at the beginning. The music is fine but I'm more interested in the artwork.

Really not my sort of thing at all won’t lie

listened to this on my way to the tax office sleep deprived after having filled out the amount of paperwork which probably took an entire congolese rainforest to produce. needless to say the bloody bureaucrats have seen WRATH!! I only like one heavy metal band and IM is NOT it. the absurdly squeaky vocals, the lyrics which sound like they were written by a 12 year old me…instrumentals are ok though.

Really not my cup of tea. Objectively he has an amazing powerful voice. I just don't gravitate towards Metal etc. Was okay, won't listen to it again tho.

Absolutely not

Continuing on from my previous '80s heavy metal album, I still haven't understood the genre, still haven't taken any lessons in its history, still don't understand its critical appeal, etc. This was okay, better than other metal offerings so far. Both singles "The Number of the Beast" and "Run to the Hills" were good, full of energy, tightly played, etc. I understand the technical skills needed to play guitar and keep time and wail, but... it is still always cheesy to me. I constantly think that Spinal Tap hit the nail on the head for the genre, and this album isn't silly enough to get into it from a playful or satirical angle. It's not bad, but not my style.

The album has some good moments but overall not for me. I thought the vocals got a bit monotonous and the music was kinda cheesy in parts.

The number of the beast is alright, but this album is a stinker for stinkers. They sound so much like spinal tap or a parody of actual music it’s hard to take seriously. At least there are some decent riffs

Not my jam, but had some good tracks.

Sounded just how I remember it. It's very metal. Nothing special.

Essential listening only for teenage boys in the 1980s. It’s not completely terrible but the songs are juvenile and it just goes on. The lyrics to Hallowed Be Thy Name are like a 12 year old trying to write a version of The Mercy Seat.

This is pretty camp. It's definitely a step up from Black Sabbath but it's still incredibly unserious music.

Heavy metal classic. I now know where Tenacious D get their inspiration from!

The era is good; I was 17-18 in 1982. Never really listened to this back then and could have gone another 43 years without missing much. My metal started and ended with Judas Priest.

It was kind of torturous... I think you need to be in a very specific mood to listen to an entire album of operatic heavy metal and I just wasn't in it. Got a nostalgia bump from a 1 to a 2 for some specific childhood love of "Running to the Hills."

so early 80's, but not 80's glam, more theatrical speed rock.

Didn’t expect to like this…and I don’t. Also the vocals sound like Rush. Basically, metal is not my thing.

Pas mon style, trop ressemblant et rock pour moi

Not menacing at all. Sometimes they sound like a polka band.

4 Too early in the morning for this

I knew 2 songs on the album (The Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills). This was not for me. I don’t like Bruce Dickinson’s voice.

I get that this is a metal classic. I just don't really like it. A couple of the songs I didn't hate, and one or two of them i sorta liked. Sorry, Frank. just not what i want to listen to

Quite hard work. Not a huge rock fan, but I quite like a bit of Led Zeppelin and Guns and roses. This feels sandwiched in between these two. It’s so relentless, and the lyrics are cringe

I liked the earlier album on the list. This felt quite restrained by comparison. It also feels quite dull in comparison to a lot of metal music. It washed over me.

Its okay.

Fav : Invaders; Hallowed Be Thy Name Vas-y j’aime pas le heavy metal donc dure à juger mais certains solos sont sympas comme dans Invaders; Hallowed Be Thy Name; The Number of A Beast.

Not really my thing but was still fun to listen to, at least it was short and sweet and didn't overstay it's welcome.

Im not a metal fan, im not a prog fan and im not a fan of concept albums so this did not float my boat. To it's credit, the guitars and drums are we'll done and its not offensively bad.

Everything about this album is fine except the vocals. Way too over the top and operatic that remind me of hair metal. Only got through 4 songs. 4/10 (2/5)

I've definitely heard of Iron Maiden, but never gave them a listen. I got exactly what I expected which is some nice 80's (slightly satanic?) heavy metal. I think I had heard The Number of the Beast before on Guitar Hero, so that was a bit familiar. Not bad overall, not my style though. Favorites: - The Number of the Beast

Not for me.

ovo cilja da bude "epik", al je baš krindž

Was good! Not my favourite honestly, and I probably wouldn't care to listen to again. I know they have a rather large following, but I don't know -- not for me.

Fine? Do people genuinely enjoy that?

I just don't like this type of music. Don't know why exactly, but it is one of the few genres that I just cannot get in to. I did, however, like a few songs on this album, which must say something...

Jag har sagt det förut. Jag fattar inte hårdrock! Tvåa

If you like this sort of thing, I reckon this is a very good example of it.

Metal. Def not my thing. From 1982. Just never my thing.

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but not good by any means.

Great riffs but I never could get into this guys voice

Horrible lyrics and vocal style with some good noodling

Picks up around The Number of The Beast and Run to the Hills. The message on Run to The Hills - where the original settlers of the US are savage murderers and not heroes at all - is pretty punk. Overall though, this kind of hairspray metal is not for me. Fantastic musicians who are great live. But I am not the target audience for this. Hallowed be Thy Name at the end is a strong final song. 5/10 (2/3)

not my jam

Generic fodder for the genre. It's not bad but I would not actively pursue their music. I class it b grade in that I would not turn off but not in my rotation. It's also not hugely significant in my opinion on influence or musicality. Ultimately admiral contribution but middle ground.

You're not tough.

Oh crikey. Rather histrionic metal, with feww redeeming features.

not something i would choose to listen to, but also less offensive than i anticipated. instrumentals are cool, vocals really put me off though

Didn't hate it though the album cover didn't help. This is heavy metal for Broadway and sounds like Jack Black's main inspiration. Won't listen again but I get it.

Decent 80's hard rock. I can appreciate how this was intense back in the day, but compared to todays metal, it really is pretty mild. A few good tracks on here, but mostly this is an album of endless guitar solos.

This is not for me. Especially the voice is way too shrill. From time to time the interplay between the two guitars is nice.

What I expected.. not quite melodic enough for my liking.

White musicians do this thing where they write songs about the Native American genocide & try to make it sad and meaningful but also kind of glorify it because they don't want to feel too bad. I'm over it. The rest was fine.

Their 3rd album. Metal / Heavy Rock. Lyrics are good at times and the themes aren't really dark at all given the album title and cover. Decent drumming and guitar licks. It's a cliche metal album though and almost a parody of the genre at times. It also gets a bit repetitive musically. I enjoyed Iron Maiden's self titled first album more.

It’s classic metal, and closer to rock than a lot of stuff, which makes it more accessible. I can appreciate it but not enjoy it.

Doesnt match the vibe of the day and not something that would match any day vibes

Not for me

A wow, dobro, očekivano. Mislim da ovo ne može biti dobro Mii starijoj od 14 god 😁 2/5,3/10

Its got a certain energy, but not for everyone - certainly not me

Oh No. Look as this fuxkin cover oooooh devil scawy skeweton scawy pwease wisten to my scawy songs Okay open mind open mind. Wait this isn't even that heavy. I am on my phone speaker so the bass isn't boosted but still. Musically this is good so far tbf. These lyrics however. Doing well when I'm searching if you're a parody band or not. Peewing the skin fwom his eyes raaaah . Grow up mate you're in the UK in 1982 and you're having to invent devils to be mad at? Are you a peer of the realm? Ah here's one about a prostitute. At least that's real. Again musically I'm appreciating this a lot more than I thought I would like I'm not hating this time. Do I need to stop listening to the words. I can't though the title track is like Spinal Tap stupid. I know I sound like a narc but I can't get over how lame it is sorry. I'm not saying every song has to be about something serious I love kooky shit I love david bowie singing about gay aliens. It's just the juxtaposition with the genuinely very good angry guitars and excellent voice as well actually. I would love to point that at something worthwhile. I did manage to stop hearing the words in the last couple of songs so we ended on a high. Genuinely I'm glad I listened to this i do try to keep an open mind and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the sound of it and like I appreciate that this is A Part Of Music History with a massive subculture. i just. You know. This is like four stars for the music one for the lyrics. Three? Two? Im pissed off enough to round down but that feels biased. I'll listen to a couple of songs again on a proper speaker and see how I feel with the bass boosted.

TIL I don’t like iron maiden

Did not enjoy for some reason. I think I just don’t like 80’s rock much. The songs are too formulaic and have nothing interesting going on. Coll guitar riffs but I don’t enjoy the singing style. It was a chore to get through one song.

invaders- 4 children of the damned- 4 the prisoner- 4 22 acacia avenue- 3 the number of the beast- 4 run to the hills- 3 gangland- 3 hallowed be thy name- 3 do you think they sat down in the studio and said "lets make the most boring album people have ever heard"

Alright, I did a grimace when I saw this come up as I have no urge to listen to Iron Maiden. I'm currently halfway through and it's not as bad as I was expecting, but it is kind of funny to me that this is considered dark and masculine when it mostly comes across as extremely camp.

It has many huge, operatic, energetic jams that will make you bang your head, but as a whole, it can be pretty exhaustingly repetitive. You could easily pull out any of these songs and have it be a perfectly good addition to your metal playlist, but I frankly grew a bit tired listening to it as an album. The lyrics and vocal performances are quite corny and over the top, which works better for me on some songs, but not all. As far as metal goes, Iron Maiden is not my preferred flavor. Favorite Tracks: Run to the Hills

Never got into this genre of metal, I think partly because of the satanic aspect. Not that I believe they’re actually satanists; it’s just a gimmick. But I ain’t messing around with that. Also, the screaming vocals never did it for me. It gets old fast. Yesterday I got Rust in Peace by Megadeath. Definitely more my style of metal.

I don't think I have ever listened to any Iron Maiden. So, okay, not as bad as I thought it would be. Not my favorite, but I guess not what I expected.

grew up on this album, but will give it a full listen

I remember dismissing Iron Maiden in the ‘80s. This was the first Iron Maiden album I’ve listened to the end. I don’t think I’ll listening to another one. I did laugh when I saw a note that the British public in 2012 voted this as the greatest album of all time.

While there were a couple tracks I found tolerable, I'll probably never listen to this again. The guitar tones are crappy, but musically, it's okay for the most part. I just can't get past Dickinison's vocals. They're so over the top and the lyrics just sound like he's describing the plot to a fantasy RPG game. 2.5 stars.

16-years old me would love this, 29-years old me is slightly interested\unbothered

Listenable but not my jam

Ihan passelia musiikkia, mikään ei yhtä poikkeusta lukuun ottamatta jäänyt sen enempää mieleen.

Worth an occasional spin, but not my favorite form of metal.

This album sounds like if David Bowie made metal in the 1980s. It's fine, if not a little boring. Best Songs: The Number of the Beast, Hallowed Be Thy Name Worst Songs: 22 Acacia Avenue, Gangland

Not my vibe. Not awful in terms of metal music, some nostalgia for the songs in Rockband, but overall will never seek this out.

#1 bruce dickinson hater reporting for duty, good god that man is so annoying. this does not have NEARLY the amount of sauce i remember, but i guess not hearing an album since high school can have that effect. title track is an undeniable banger but i may be swayed by the Vincent Price appearance setting the mood. really enjoy the bass work on this but that's not exclusive to this record, i feel like if a Maiden greatest hits comp popped up on here i would eat that shit up Iron Maiden do have some tunes but they are sadly not to be found on here!

Got about a halfway through. Wasn't my thing

More musical theater than I thought. Maybe the Prisoner is the best song?

its is bearable to listen to. There is nothing that remotely stands out and I am not really partial to this riff rock, but it is not terrible wither. Would absolutely never listen to it again though

Doesn't really do it for me

Tried to give it a chance but not my cup of tea.

🎧Children of the daaaamned!

Overall better than I expected. Not quite as heavy as I was anticipating, but still not really my thing.

Wanted to like it more. Will have another listen.

Meh. 2/5

The rare metal album that contains a song I wouldn't mind returning to in the future. In this case it was "The Prisoner." I'm not 100% sure I'll actually like it when I return to the song, as this ultimately remains a genre I'm very much not into.

This one is full of intensity, but it’s almost too much. Feels like early Black Sabbath if they sped everything up but lost the vibe. It’s all flash and noise, but it doesn’t really grab you. Could’ve used a little more depth.

Gave this a blast. Never really been a fan but obviously knew their two banging hits from this album. I've tried to approach listening to this with the view of how it appeared back in the 80's when first released. This was one of those albums and sounds that carved out a new direction for rock music. There's elements of prog in there along side the heavy sound, so really quite ground breaking at the time. Having said that it still doesn't grip me, but Run to the Hills and Number of the Beast are massive tracks where their sound really works to its best effect. On the basis of those two tracks I'm going to say it's got it's place on the list.

Don't really care for Maiden in general, but this is probably about as good as they get in my opinion. 2/5

this shit is so unserious and so mind-numbingly boring. i think the contrast in the intended “edginess” of the album’s overall aesthetic—the skulls, devils, gangs, whatever—with the total drudgery of the music is ironic and kinda pathetic. it defangs the whole thing. beyond silly. the songs are well-constructed in a very standard way…just no real imagination or innovation at all. but in that sense it was not unlistenable.

that wasn't so bad. not as bad as other metal on the list. it was just not that interesting to me. there's something about the timbre of the guitars in metal music that is really ugly to me; it's different than the sound of a cool electric guitar riff in other music that i like and i can't pinpoint what it is that isn't as satisfying or interesting to me. but it makes up so much of the music that it's hard to look past even if the music itself isn't that unpleasant.

I thought the Iron Maiden self titled album was better, maybe I'm just not ready to thrash today?

Pretty basic

Not very good.

I think this is probably another album that was groundbreaking at the time but I've heard so many derivative bands that this doesn't really make an impact. Not liking this. Some is better than other, but the operatic singing in particular isn't working for me. I appreciate the almost proggy music but it's not doing much for me emotionally.

Here we go again…I seem to be saying this a lot, but although I didn’t hate it, I won’t be listening to it again.

this was shit

I came with an open mind, but still wasn't impressed. I think this wave of metal music just isn't for me.

Heavy, man!

I guess, if you had to choose an Iron Maiden album, The Number of the Beast is the place to start. From the comical album cover (well, all of them look similar) to their laughable "metal"-rock music, I never took Iron Maiden's music seriously. This was released in my final year of high school and this and the previous records from the band were always in my face, with kids blaring Maiden on their car stereos in their Trans-Ams and the headbangers hand-drawing "Eddie" on the back of their jean jackets and notebooks. I can listen to their music without any triggering or needing to go to therapy, but if I had a choice I wouldn't. This is training wheels, ground floor heavy metal. If you wanted to go as a headbanger, stoner for Halloween to scare the shit out of your neighbors kids and your wife/husband, an Eddie mask and an Iron Maiden t-shirt is all you need...simple.

interesting concept and strong themes but very repetitive and not my thing overall

Honestly it was better than I thought it would be... but that's still not great. Just not really my cup of tea. I liked some of the growls though. Favourite song: The number of the beast

If you like metal, here you go

2, meh

Rollo. No me suena ninguna canción.2

Not a big metal head

I would really like this if I’d gotten into it in middle school

Not for me. 1.5

First time listening to Iron Maiden and man was this a crazy era for rock. Not my style but pretty fun. A lot more pop than I would have imagined. May come back to this closer to Halloween.

The band is pretty tight but the vocals drove me up a wall after the first few songs. I kept thinking about Spinal Tap as I listened to it - music for pre-pubescent young lads...

Only listened to 1/2 of this. Meh!

I enjoy what the band does but not Dickinson, furthermore it all comes off as cold.

I am troubled on this one because I really like the beat of Run for the Hills, but as an Indigenous person not so happy with the lyrics.

Man.....I really didn't know what to think when I saw this come up. Years ago I sang on stage at a karaoke place. I sang 'Man in the Box' by Alice In Chains. That same night a guy sang 'Run to the Hills' by Iron Maiden. It sounded like craziness.....when he hit the chorus he sounded so over the top and cartoonish that it made me laugh. I'd never listened to Iron Maiden before. Now all these years later I realize that what the karaoke singer was doing that night was mainly just being accurate. I hate to make fun of the time and hours these guys put into creating and recording this, but it almost sounded like a parody of something to me. At parts I just chuckled which is probably not the reaction they were going for. The singer's voice was so over the top operatic.to me. At the same time, I did feel like the singer could actually sing and had a good voice, it's just why did he sing THAT way and those lyrics? I had a tough time taking it seriously. The music backing him was cool though.

The vocals are ridiculous, almost farcical. Some of the guitar lines seem ok but I just can’t ever think of a time where I say ‘I know I’ll put on The Number Of The Beast”

Well.nit by genre, but better than expected… not total head banging and actually had lyrics!

Not my thing

just not my thing. like Meatloaf gone heavy, heavy metal.

Ugh! So much screaming. I know the band is iconic. But eh.

I mean, this is exactly what I thought it would be. Unsophisticated, loud, somewhere between earnest and pretentious lyrically. More than a bit Spinal Tap.

I mean it’s good when it comes to talent but I don’t like the music. I’m giving two stars out of respect

Didn’t like it then and don’t care for it much now. But respect it for the era that it created.

I do _love_ metal and try to give Iron Maiden a fair shake. I can see why this is a popular metal album with crossover appeal - Bruce Dickinson' lung-busting vocals are an endurance feat. The bass pops more than modern metal and the instrumentation is tight. Worth a listen but not something I would go back to personally.

3 songs in and so far I don't know if it's my sound. Lots of yeahs and screams. I typically enjoy rock from the 80s but this sounds different. I'll try and keep an open mind.

Not me.

Sonically similar to Spinal Tap and deserving of the same two word review “shit sandwich”

This album feels like 3 hours. When I saw the last track was 7 minutes I wanted to cry. I do not enjoy the vocals at all.

ohhh ohhhhhhh… 2 sterne was extrem gut ist da ich sicher war dass ich 1 geben würde

The Number of the Beast is the third studio album by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden, first released in 1982. I remember when I first heard of Iron Maiden and thought their album art was the coolest thing. I was expecting this super heavy and hard-hitting metal. What I got was lackluster hard rock bordering hair-metal. Don't get me wrong, not all of it is bad, and I respect the influence Iron Maiden had on music. There are some OK moments. The guitar playing is cool and the drumming is solid. The vocals really throw me off though. Maybe after a few beers this will start sounding better.

Hmmm. Songs about God, the devil and Native Americans.

My predominant thought while listening was, "goddamn, Spinal Tap is such a fucking brilliant film." They really nailed it. Every heavy metal band clamors with cliche...like every single aspect—the wah wah waaaaaah guitar solo, the trite lyrics so absent of poetic flow, the drums highlighting an ending to a song. Ugh. I will give them kudos and an additional star for taking the piss out of the conservatives satanic panic MO.

Just what is the point. I don’t get it. Wont ever get it. What are the lyrics on about? Blah blah the chime of the bell in the past life of the children of the dead in the gallows of satans arsehole…..blah blah. Best track was actually by AC/DC on the Spotify radio playlist that came on after this. 1.8

the drums and guitars are cool, not a fan of the dramatic scream-o vocals. it's not as bad as I thought a metal album would be and it's somewhat dynamic, I have to give them that. but it's still not dynamic enough and just turns into a wall of sound a few songs in

I guess I don't like metal very much. I do think this was a little better than the metallica album though 4/10

I actually really like “Invaders”, but it’s downhill for me after that. I like some of the punky influences, but Dickinson is just too over the top for me. 2.5/5

Really bad. Too glammy to be metal, too metal to be rock. The vocals are annoying and the lyrics are bad. Some cool guitar tones, but not redeeming.

Listenable overall and with good playing, but not particularly inspired. Catchy moments, but largely boring. Often feels generic, and gets repetitive. Not a huge metal fan usually, but I've heard better from the genre. Overall, just okay. ~2/5.

This is better than I expected/remembered. It made me reconsider my (negative) take on Iron Maiden. It’s still not my bag, but I realized it’s not that far off from—and likely influenced—stuff I like a lot, like early Motley Crue and Dokken. I still like those bands better, but this was better than expected. The closer, Hallowed be thy Name, is a standout for me.

No estaba mal.

This isn’t as bad as I thought it might be, but just not my genre.

I actually liked this more than I expected to, but it's still not something I'd choose to put on just to listen to for the hell of it.

this shit is corny

eh kinda boring compared to megadeth or metallica

Iron Maiden is best when the entire unit pulls out each other's skillsets on display through song structure mix ups like in Children of The Damned, maybe even Number of the Beast, but a lot of the songs feel a bit long. Also, growing up with Run to the Hills on rockband I thought I would have a nostalgic callback to it but...........idk! Just didnt hit!

What I can’t get over is the voice which is dynamic but lacking in true emotion. It all feels like a costume or role play. The ideas could create music with emotion but this feels like an imitation of emotion.

look, they are great musicians and the songs are well composed, but this is not my stuff

Felt like a CrossFit gym with less grunting

A little too heavy for my taste but I can understand why it’s well-regarded

Has that classic metal sound. Good instrumentals. I like songs from other metal bands better (Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath) but I can respek

OK - I can see what all the fuss is about - some great solos in here, it created the formula for a lot of music to come. Hard though to take this seriously in a post Spinal Tap world. I'd rather listen to Tap and get some laughs too.

eh its alright, first metal album ive listened to all the way through its just quite intense listening maybe a 2.5

Dunno why the wheatus fella thought going to see these would impress that girl

Not for me but cool guitar!

I'm not a metal head so usually end up reviewing these types of albums relatively lowly. There are a small number of metal albums that buck the tred - but this, sadly, isn't one of them. That's not to say it was awful, far from it, I made it through the whole album without wanting to switch it off. It's somewhere between 2 and 3 stars, I'll go with 2.
