James Brown Live At The Apollo
James BrownSuch a fucking good picture of the apollo. What a showman. I wish this shit was longer!
Such a fucking good picture of the apollo. What a showman. I wish this shit was longer!
Really solid, love the songs w the female singers. Agree that it’s great working music. FIVE!
Good but man so angsty! Hard to endorse.
Really really good. Lot of depth. I see the influence on eg green day. Super different than other stuff around the same time, eg REM Radio Free Europe. Very very good drums. Great singing!
Fun! A fun time capsule into the 80s. Make me wish i was about to graduate from harvard and work on wall st and get married at 26.
Wow. Such depth, i can see how it was so influential on later people (tyler). Want to relisten immediately. The love songs are not nauseating (confident?)
Really fucking good. I didnt get the first half or so, but the back half opened my mind up. Thumb emoji.
Some interesting sounds! I dont know that i’d ever listen to this again, though. It is interesting, historically, though: feels like you can easily hear the parliament connection. TPAB, too. Lots of this album is very deep funk, not necessarily super pop funk. Which is cool- although seems, to me, a little inaccessible. But i also felt this way about MUSIC, recently, too, so maybe i’m just not trained enough in funk to appreciate it. (The carti connection in what im saying is obvious) JUMPIN OFF DRUGS
Man i hates this album. Only like 1-2 tracks i enjoyed. Just seems so corny and “drake and josh.”
Really really good. Good subject material and an innovative 80s sound. Fun!
Solid fun listen. I dont think i was blown away by most of the tracks, but glad i listened!
Powerful
Fun but super super weird haha. Sounds so modern?
Liked this much more than the first time i heard it. Maybe im just in a good mood or maybe it spoke to me. Only track i found out of place was Night Rally. five!
FUCCKING FIIIIIIIIIIIRE I WISH THEY CUT OFF THOSE TWO WEIRD TRAX BUT HOLY SHIIIIIIT BURY ME IN THIS IM FINNA RAP ON THE START OF ONE MORE TIME LOOPED
Tbh did not like this. Sounded too quiet and washed out. 2!
Man she can fuckin sing!
Zomg i liked this album. A lot. Felt like it was speaking to me and my possibly-neurotic obsession with death and introspection. Instrumentation was overall good, singing was the real highlight. Drums ehh. Overall.. FIVE!
Makes me feel like im 17 again :)
Uncle doug!!! A country album for the haters
I liked some tracks a lot, but i wish it was more disco-y, apple music lied! I wonder if the recording on it is affecting my perception… feels kinda flat just like the talking heads
Jamie xx shiii makes me wanna rave
Really cool instrumentation here. I feel like my experience from this suffer because I wasn’t watching the lyrics at the same time. I’m curious to listen more to hear to see if this is indeed a ripoff
Bang boom- an instant classic. This will be my new defense when dorks hate indiscriminately on country music.
Cool but not grabby? Except for a few tracks. Makes me wanna listen to his other stuff tho.
- i think i might even prefer this to ok, computer - some of the electronic stuff here is insane - weird fishes - should relisten to internalize
God i wish every fucking album was 30m and sounded like this (jk)… but for real love at first listen
FUTURE COMPUTER MUSIK
Hated the first half, back half is great! Noticing a trend. I would play some of these tracks for my kids, my grandma, my parents, and some are to get drunk and dance embarrassingly to. Fun listen, begging to be sampled.
I wish i could listen to this with alexis because man it sure seems like i dont get it. “A remark you made” is fire, and there are some interesting drums here and there, but overall meh. I was ready for this to be over and it’s only 36 minutes.
This fucking album STINNNKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSS God it’s so lame and corny and “hehe haha we are knights of the round table”
Some trax incredible, some trax unfortunately sound like the undertones. I dont wanna hear about ur sandwich
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Tolerable but only cool for its history. TWO!
Type of music that makes u wanna find god. Love my dad.
Looove these churchy keys. Wanna listen more!
Listening to the lyrics really puts this bad boy in context! This paaaain that i hold :)
Expected to dislike this , and my initial reaction was “wtf is this”, but some solid grooves, licks, and sad songs. THREE
I am method man Taking into consideration all lives Rza production incredible, flow nasty, love song cool
Easy listening, i LUVED “married with children”, made me fucking cackle. I would listen to a 30 minute bandcamp album of that whole vibe (michael cera?) A lot of the rest felt good to me but not amazing, maybe 3-4 stars leaning 3. Definitely better than echo and the bunnymen lol. Very first album vibes
Ahead of its time like little old ladies in bonnets. Bully is very influenced by this IMO
Solid as hell, of course. Some deeper cuts i hadnt heard
THREE FUCKING HOURS IM SO TIRED IT WAS GREAT THO I MEAN WHAT AM I TO SAY OBVS I GOT SICK OF IT 3.5 ROUNDING UP TO 4 STARS
Fun as hell, a weird combination of motifs that somehow works? Great drums too, id steal them as well if i were kanye.
So beautiful and of its time. The synths on the weed song are crazy.
Ezmoney 10/10 100/100 wish he wasnt doing this shit
Such a fucking good picture of the apollo. What a showman. I wish this shit was longer!
Hollly fuck what a good album. Little green almost made me cry thinking about ***. I really love this album, fuck. All good dreamers pass this way.
- ‘Just for a thrill’ is incredible - the lyrics on tell me youll wait for me are absolutely just the prettiest thing youll ever hear, breaks you the fuck down
Some really fun drums (here and there) and occasionally good singing. Very “stale beer in a basement in the 90s.” Otherwise, completely forgettable. Maybe im missing something, but id rather listen to a million other things. Tg for this project for educating me to not fall for this one. TWO!
Heat- ! Roadtrip shit, stoner shit, be most excellent to each other
Ass tbh, two good tracks
Broken record but the back half is so much belter than the first imo. First half smacks of whiney austin cold plunge boys (shoutout e) , second half instrumentation is really good. Should take inspo from iglooghost and be 15m long
Fuck i love this album. Eye opening, makes me feel like im 13. Baby baby baby. 5/5
Eric brigham shit, maybe my new favorite breakup album ;( hope i don't need it
- Shit was already incredible but im getting more out of it on this listen - i will always ride for the south
So good amazing insteumental music
Only for 5 minutes i did dream about growing my hair out and living in a sprinter van, which i think is damning for Yes. 2/5
Ehhh… clearly objectively good but im not gonna be relistening. I think i just dont have a reference pt for it? Hard to imagine being like WOOOOO WOWWWWWWWwe snap SNAP SNAP JAZZ! For this. Bring me bbng.
So fun :) might actually relisten to this one lol. 4/5
2012 as hell, cool to drink beer to in a Chicago or bk backyard in an nbc sitcom or police show
Surprisingly good easy fun spring listen. 4/5
LOVE it for what it is but it’s not for me. But i respect tf out of it.
Initial review: I liked this more than i expected but am i crazy for thinking this is generic asf? Get me off this FUCKING SITE REEEEEE Later review: kinda cool and important
2nd best metal album ive ever heard
So many great songs, i instantly fell in love. I liked this a lot more than other fives I've put.. maybe I should be more stringent. A couple weak/niche sounds here and there (earl sweatshirt LLL vibes), but can't win em all. I guess im more into punk than I thought.. jk I always knew probably. Could definitely groove out to this. FIVE!
Only reason it aint a 5 is relistenability, but i luuv this album. So technically amazing. Joey diaz had a point.
I dont wanna write my opinion of this album because i dont wanna be mean. Some ok grooves. too creepy for me. TWO.
Pretty solid, like… great tracks. I was just too sad to dig lol
:/ why is this on here homie..
I liked this way more than i thought i would. Makes me cringe in the best way. The sounds match the cover. Love it. Can dance in a basement to this. FOUR
I see why Nana loved him… NO MORE FOURS - FIVE!
RIP the legend the goat keith moon but homie why is this on here… 2
Best album ive heard in a long time. 5
luv Bjork but only a few tracks I loved.
Love these grooves. Why would anyone listen to steely dan — aja when this album exists??? The n-2th track is one of my favorites in terms of absolutely sentimental grooves. Pass the cigars mccusker! FOUR
Solid asf. My first eno. FIVE
Actually pretty groovy except for the few tracks i hated. I dont do 4s so. FIVE
This site has delivered several 5s inna row. Shout out disco b!
Who knew i loved glam rock! Beats the shit out of that u2 album. FIVE! (Shoutout my dad and mom)
Really liked a lot of these songs both technically and spiritually but i dont think ill be relistening much.
Hollllyyy shit this is mb the best album ive been introduced to from this project. Makes other albums in adjacent genres sound worse. Makes me miss Iceland. Maybe theyre so happy because theyre somber and accept it? I’ll take my Ls even though it’s not fun… FIVE. (All u did was write the book on garbage ass rollies - Aubrey)
Fun, weird, a lot, interesting, classic, but not gonna relisten to it. Album cover is legit sick as hell. THREE!
So fucking boring. A pain to get through. Good singing. 1.5.. rounds down to ONE!
Meh. A few incredible songs and i feel like i ought to love this, but it’s just.. i think it’s just not for me lol. No hate tho im not qualified to do so. TWO!
Really solid, love the songs w the female singers. Agree that it’s great working music. FIVE!
A beautiful album to play while your daughter’s on xmas break and it’s snowing and gray outside in park slope. Gentle asf saxophones and hats. EASY FIVE!
Originally a 3 but her attitude at the VMAs (??? Mtv??) and the last track bumps it to a 4. SO vulnerably unapologetic. So 90s. Not to mention incredible technically. Cool vibraphone(marimba?) on one of those later tracka. FOUR!
Liked this more than i thought i would! Hot burrito tracks are great. Shoutout the guy who made these suits (can’t remember but i stayed at porter wagners house in nashville)
God this album stinks. Theres like two tracks that are a vibe (“U” and another one) but almost everything else is offensive. And this shit has the audacity to be an HOUR??? I feel like theres a much smaller more reasonable album waiting to be carved out. The combination of the ack ass ironic beats and silly singing mixes poorly with the semi experimentation YUCK ONE
FIVE FIVE FIVE RAAAGE
Makes me wanna party so hard, 5/5 for relistenability!!!
Some great tracks, maybe im just tired but shit’s not matching my mood right now. Too violent (which is wild for me to say ik). THREE
Liked this way more than i thought i would. Makes me happy im doing this project now to (1) have a reference point for BRUUUUUUCE and (2) to know that ive grown some: i listened to nebraska years ago on thomas’ recommendation and just was like ehhhhh but now i feel id get it more. FYE! FIVE! Also im doing fours again bc this shit is too overly simplified
Interesting sounds but pretty forgettable. Maybe the coolest yes album? But idk if im ever gonna listen again. THREE
GIIIIIIIRREEE but that one track with the terrible micing is cause for treason. FIVE!
Legitimately painful to get through. Two good songs (ironically one of them is called the end- couldnt have come fast enough). Your music’s shiiitteeee it keeps me up all niiiiggghhhtttt… ZERO
Shoutout rick, shoutout reinhard, shoutout me. Bornnnn to be wiiiiilllllddd. FOUR!
So many crazy good sounds and songs. Feels more modern than 2009. I feel like im a victim to modern ears but man this was fire. Begging to be sampled. Chatgpt was very wrong on the subject matter of temecula. FOUR
Wow, good feeling is one of the best songs ive ever heard. I hated a lot of the test of this album tbh, would have been a 2. Gone daddy gone just makes me pine for Gnarls. Parts of this album unfortunately gives “undertones” vibe. Bur good feeling bumps it up to a THREE.
I really liked the messages, even though they hurt. The use of cow sounds is painfully good. Feels a bit hypocritical at times (no veganism??) but things are of their time. Not a big relisten for me i think. Just didnt grab me. I dunno. Good to expand the ear. I can see why Hila loves them. THREE!
One of my new faves. Better than In Utero. The drumming is inspirational, the range is immaculate. Makes me wanna run and fight. Gets the people going! Five/five. FIVE!
Some spooky vibes and some spooky mixing (negatively so). Feels like BBNG2 energy but for 1991. Adore this album cover. I have to side with my cousins, but not my favorite. Still! Strong technically and i can see eg influence on Hotelier. The quarry track is fun but skippable. Clppng vibes. THREE!
Solid as hell, i already started relistening. Gives “madlib invades blue note” vibes. Probs the best jazz ive heard from this project. FOUR! Also FREE EARL MOB
Surprisingly good. So that’s where the coconut song comes from. Somber in the back 2/3. Thought i wouldnt like it after the first 1/3 and the cover. Maybe too close to my own aesthetic. 3.5 rounds up to FOUR!
