Reviews (page 10 of 13)

Invaders - 3.5 stars. Fun opening. Children of the dmned - 3 stars. dodn't enjoy as much. felt like a stereotypical rock ballad. Lacking interest. The Prisoner - 3 stars. interesting intro in this song. overall, the album starting to feel fatiguing. 22 Accacia Avenue - again, starting to feel monotonous. good guitar solos and fun bass. i think it's the vocals that don't do it for me. The number of the beast - this is more like it! finally i've woken up. This song really steps up the quality. Fast paced, devilish, satanic fun. 4 stars. Run to the hills - favourite track so far. enjoyed the lyrics and pace of this. Just stands out as being catchiest. Gangland - back to mediocre quality for most of the album. 3 stars. unremarkable tune. Hallowed be thy name - Not at all like the Alice Cooper track with the same name. This one was alright, bit above average than some of the other tracks, 3.5 stars. Overall, this type of heavy rock isn't for me. But I found some fun songs in this, and the guitar was good, so take my three stars...

Didn't do much for me but ok. Reminded me of being a kid in my friend's car

Standard heavy metal review - relentless but monotonous. Maybe rounding up for The Prisoner dialogue. Not sure why I enjoyed Deep Purple/Zepp so much more even though it was parents to much of this stuff -maybe because the blues element was driven out?

Don't think I've ever listened to an Iron Maiden album before. This was a good one, and even writing this review a couple days after I have some of the refrains echoing in my head. Enjoyed it a bit.

Some good stuff. Some forgettable stuff. Probably wouldn't listen to most of it again voluntarily but I understand why it is noteworthy. Probably didn't need to hear it before I died compared to some of the stuff left off this list.

They deliver exactly what you expect. It keeps a fast (galloping) pace throughout the album. The songs are unapologetically over the top, silly and fun. If you're in the right zone when listening, the fun carries over. If not, it's eye-rolling and record switching time.

Enjoyed this when I was 15 and enjoy it today more than I expected to - lot’s of fun.

This was a mixed bag. I enjoyed some of the songwriting. Some tracks painted a good visual of the themes. I think that for other songs, the songwriting didn't connect with me. The first few tracks on this record felt sort of similar to other tracks on here as well. Favourite Track(s): Run to the Hills Least Favourite Track(s): Invaders, The Prisoner, The Number Of The Beast, Total Eclipse

More of the same. No innovation within the genre.

Disappointing compared to their self-titled debut: less varied and more mainstream/typical metal. Borderline two-stars, with barely enough saving graces to save the day.

I went to an Iron Maiden concert in 2024. Nearly everyone there was middle aged and balding. Good times.

I think this album is a mixture of pretty solid songs typifying the genre and equally some forgettable dirge. The more upbeat Number of the Beast (a formative song for me in my teenage discovery of heavy rock/metal) and Run to the Hills do better in my opinion but Children of the Damned is decent. May be a bit of a rose tinted 3 here.

The album kicked off well with 'Children of the Damned' and kept the same level throughout. It's a classic heavy rock sound which I can get on board with. Loved 'The Prisoner' but a lot of that is to do with the classic intro (great show). Musically, I think this album is awesome, my only criticism is the presentation of the vocals which I find a bit stressful and frenetic. Not quite melodic enough for my tastes. Otherwise great.

This is not my type of music at all, but there are some nice melodies here. Run to the Hills is fun and the only song I could actually see myself listening to. Overall not that bad.

Decent listen.

I liked this more than I was expected to based on the reputation of the band - it was enjoyable, quite fun!

Christians HATE this one record. In all seriousness, this album didn't really reach to me in a profound way like it might have for many others. I also didn't grow up in the 80's, so perhaps that might have to do with it. You have a to wait a bit before getting to the good stuff here, though I will admit that the singles make this whole record worth a listen at least. Superb guitars, driving bass, and quick, melodic drums pave the way for the energetic Bruce Dickinson on the lead. But like I mentioned earlier, only about half the album really makes a statement. Take or leave the rest.

I get the hype. It’s so powerful but also like also kinda relaxing as well… good blend. Not typically a fan of metal but I’d vibe to this

Listening to this album on an early morning road trip was exactly what this album intended to be. Great hard rockers that produced solid rock. The album started great got a bit mediocre by the end but still quality. Can appreciate the people that really love this band because it has essence.

Bem mais ou menos

Solid metal album with hints of Black Sabbath and Deep Purple

Didn’t really grip me until the b side. Solid 2nd half!

Buen album

this is not my usual kind of music (and i listen to everything) - but the aesthetics are undeniably very cool and it did fit my current finals hellscape mindset. titular track was fantastic, definitely the highlight for me. good show.

The drama of it all is very entertaining.

I know that it's an absolute classic, but I'm not really sure if I enjoyed this. But the art cover is so fucking brilliant

great for listening to at work because it's so energetic usually with a good beat, but i'm not listening to the lyrics at all.

Kinda fye

Iconic album.

Favourite songs: Run for the hills, Gangland. Good old 80s metal. Iron maiden has never really been my typa band but this album was pretty enjoyable. 6.6/10 😉

This album deserves another listen.

Not necessarily my cup of tea, but the musicianship is great. This band is absolutely locked in, and the vocals are crisp. The production is a little muddled, and unlike most albums, the backend of this record is MUCH better than the front. Solid stuff.

Not my thing, but I can definitely appreciate how important this album was on the development of the heavy metal genre. Exactly what metal should be. A little bit angry, a little bit silly, soaring vocals and bass that feels like it's going to rearrange your intestines. 3.5⭐️

Vocal stylings are certainly dated, but instrumentals are less so. Not my style but not too bad.

English 80s metal. Vocals are just perfect, theatrical and clear, everything is mixed well. Loong songs. Does what it set out to do very well.

Pretty awesome. Especially "Run to the Hills".

Ok c'est rigolo un moment mais ça a quand même salement vieilli cette affaire.

Solid classic heavy metal from start to finish. Don't drop on your big toe.

Heavy metal is not my favorite musical genre, although I appreciate that this record is well done for heavy metal. My expectations were low before hearing the record, but they were exceeded. Maybe I was in the proper mood.

While I'm not a super fan of Iron Maiden or this record in specific, I can see why it's one of the most influential albums for Heavy Metal. The songs are well composed and it's a very consistent album. I liked McBrain's drumming, and while Dickinson's singing isn't my favourite, it works very well and remains iconic. In terms of themes, I liked how varied they are and how much commentary they offer, although they could be connected a bit better between each other. Also, the patronizing take in "22 Acacia Avenue" hasn't aged very well in my opinion, which is kinda sad because the song in itself is very good. My favourite song was "Run for the hills", which remains a classic, hard-hitting heavy metal with interesting (and critical) lyrics about colonialism.

This was the ultimate Iron Maiden album when I was growing up. Had a poster of the Live After Death over my bed as a 12-year-old. Funny that now I much prefer the Paul Di’Anno albums as they don’t sound as dated to me, more straight ahead raw rock. Bruce Dickinson in hindsight is a bit too opera for me, but I’ve been rediscovering an appreciation for this phase of Iron Maiden as this was them at their top.

Strong 3

Though tedious, this was not irritating. That's high praise from me for this genre.

Not "pure". 3/5

A little repetitive but solid

This was definitely an Iron Maiden album. I appreciate it. I love his iconic voice and the instrumentation. It does start to be a little more of the same.

Didn’t hate it

Some great songs but as an album it’s just so monotonic, instruments are the same all the way through

I just have nothing with Iron Maiden. This is listenable, but nothing more.

My generator summary says that metal is my worst genre but I thought this was fun. Admittedly, I probably won’t listen to it again but at least I can now appreciate that Iron Maiden had the tunes as well as a knack for branding.

I think of this as heavy metal in its purest form. Listen only if you're ready to rock!

Not huge into metal, nothing was bad about it, just not for me

A very clean and well produced album. Catchy and fast riffs. Obviously written for arenas. Not as "hard" as the art might lead you to believe. The music does feel dated and I don't know in what part of my life I would personally listen to this again. I would rate this album a 4 in terms of quality of songs and production, but for my personal tastes it's a 3 at best.

It's a great metal album My second iron maiden from the generator. I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed the debut, and here I'm less surprised but enjoyed it as well. My biggest take on Maiden is the way that they all come out as great musicians without trying to show off to much (wich is my biggest problem in metal). It's 3.5 and not 4 only because of my mindset while listening. It's a part of the game. A break coming soon

Pretty fun. Swayed by Rock Band

Can't imagine listening to decades worth of this kind of music. I have to very much be in a ironic metal mood to listen to this. They go hard, but I had this album on in the background while I did other stuff and honestly didn't notice when the songs changed. Honestly I think the lead singers voice is sort of corny and stereotypical, but to be fair maybe his voice is the one they based all the others off of. I can objectively rate an album even if it is not my taste, but objectively i'm not getting the hype. It's fine, but not more than that.

Not really my thing.

Takes me back to SSX haha

Lowkey not my favorite but its not really my vibe either. Overall solid album but I dont think I would personally listen to this all the time

All the songs sound the same. I guess it was kinda fun but I could probably just listen to "The Number Of The Beast" and get my fix.

Ничего особенного. Стандартный хэви-метал.

I could really see mounting an epic D&D campaign to this if I was born in 1972.

Honestly felt like it should've packed more of a punch based on the name. Only got through about half of it - was not super my thing but wasn't unlpleasant.

it was fine. kinda fun but very repetitive. Feel like all the songs were just loops they played OVER and OVER

Three stars is generous but I give them credit for helping create the genre.

'Fear of the Dark' is the only Iron Maiden song I absolutely adore. The album is an absolute classic of the heavy metal genre, but it's just not for me.

6.5/10 Solid riffs, good musicianship, honestly only kinda half listened while working.

This isn’t for me, but I’m glad I heard it. The lyrical content, particularly the sudden wild appearance of The Prisoner, had me rather confused and pleasantly surprised.

I enjoyed it. Better than the self titled one. Don't have the energy to express more.

Liked it more than I thought

I've really been into guitar rock/metal lately so I thought I would probably like this album. I didn't like it, and I think the reason is that it sounds way too perfectly-produced and tame. It's not raw or energetic, which is what I enjoyed about a lot of the classic metal I've heard on this list so far. Still not terrible.

Good in parts.

I prefer a copper broad

first listen great vocalist, i still find it hard to take heavy metal seriously

Iron Maidens continued appeal continues to allude me. But not the most horrible thing I've heard. 2.5*

Don't think I'll actually listen to this again but it was kinda fun

Ok, lite lökigt.

Nice! I've never paid attention that much to Iron Maiden. It's been a long time since I wanted to check them out. Not my favorite kind of rock but what the hell, I just want to headbang now to this album!!!

Yep. That's early 80's metal alright

It was alright

This is not my kind of music at all but there really is a lot to appreciate about this album. Personally I would give it a two. But I think I’ll give it a three because it really is a good album.

Crazy what time does. This music is the stuff I spent my teenage years trying not to listen to even though there were more 3/4 sleeve Eddie T-shirts per capita in my rural hometown than anywhere else on the planet. I expect I secretly sang Bryan Adam’s lyrics to myself as this played in a van in the way to a hockey game or at a camp party, as some sort of mantra to calm myself and assure myself that the world was still okay). Turns out it s just hair metal, but better. And that it’s generally better than Dexys Midnight Runners or whatever tripe I was putting in my ears instead of this. Turns out this has way more staying power and is pretty okay. Check out Tanya Taqak’s cover of “Run for the Hills”…

Title track and run for the hills are great, rest is mid. I get it's influential or whatever but there's much better Metal/hard rock out there. The vocals are phenomenal though.

Some all-time classics (of the genre) on here, obviously. But, as with all metal, after a while it just all becomes TOO MUCH for me. Too much high-pitched singing and screaming, too much drama and theater, too much grandiose battle imagery, just a little too much of everything. I just can't take this stuff seriously, hard as I might try.

LIke it's fine but idrgaf

Раніше скептично ставився до цієї групи, але вникнувши в тематику текстів та послухавши цей альбом, можу сказати що недооцінював цю групу, хоча й вона не є моїм фаворитом

Brought back some great memories for me, but my son just found it kind of boring with no “great” tracks to redeem it.

Already at the first song "Invaders", it has some old school heavy metal vibe. Considering that I've listened to Metallica in the past, it has some genre similarity. Not exactly the same, but in the same ballpark range. Considering I don't listen to metal music anymore, It's not too annoying yet not too bad. As I thought, as I listen to "Children of the Damned" it has audible similarity to Metallica's song. With maybe a slightly it's own unique twist of metal. So far, the 2nd song is really good. 3rd song sounds like the last 2 songs, with somewhat repetitive patterns in sound which is not something I really like. 4th song, already sounds better than the previous ones. Sounds more original, and not too bad. 5th track sounds pretty good overall. 6th song sounds very good already at the start, if a bit noisy. Not too bad. 7th song sounds quite okay, with some similarities to some of the other first songs in the album with some of it's own spark. 8th and last song already starts to sound like funeral vibes, and then progresses to something more epic and better. Overall the best song in the album so far in my opinion. If I had to rate the album, it would be a 6/10.

The Number of the Beast is in my opinion the best metal album in the non-Metallica category. Packed full of great guitar riffs. Run to the Hills is a masterpiece of galloping guitar. I’ll never figure trying to play it on Rockband in college. 7.7/10

Iron maiden with nice vocals , yap sign me up …. hard metal continued to grow on me . The transitions are well done and the vibe is clear … F THE SYSSSTEM

C'est moins pire que ce que j'imaginais! C'est presque bon.

Fucking ridicule. Bonne prod. 8 reprises de The Knife de Genesis.

3.5 Some incredible moments but some filler moments

Iron Maiden is one of those bands I've heard of, but never really listened to. A little soft to be considered "metal" but it was decent music nonetheless. Favorite Song: "Children Of The Damned".

I never really got into Maiden, preferring other metal artists in the 80s. This is fine, it just doesn't do much for me.

我贼 有点不敢听 听了以后其实还好,但一般情况下我是不会听这种的

Not really my style of music usually, but this was actually not too bad! Wouldn't mind listening to it again, even if I won't seek it out directly myself.

7.4 - Good album but not my vibe guitar solo was nutty though

first time heard 3.5ish round down to 3

Obviously I've heard some Iron Maiden songs before but never a full album. A solid metal album, what can I say 3/5

Not my cup of tea. Two main singles I knew, just don’t love this kind of music. Still, you can’t deny the influence I hear from this on a lot of other heavier music. The production is dated and the bass is too loud.

it's alright, a bit samey samey, better metal albums out there if that's what you like, I can take it or leave it

Not bad but not their heaviest. Lots of high vocals.

Music was good but felt like the songs dragged on here and there

Don't hate it. Just not my vibe. The instrumentals were pretty stellar. I'd say 5.4/10. Fav song: gangland

6/10 This was fine, I liked it less than the previous Judas Priest album. Not my bag but I get how it is other people’s thing. Favorite Song: number of the beast

An incredibly influential album on a number of different bands and musicians that I really like, but it doesn't do a whole lot for me here. Some of the songs are pretty fun though!

LETS FUCKING GOOO im going to try to be impartial but im such a sucker for this. man the opening to invaders is so fucking fun nice punchy start to a record w/the opening stabs + the absolutely infectious riff. the prechorus is so fun too THEYRE COMING OVER THE HILL THEYVE COME TO ATTACK THEYRE COMING IN FOR THE KILL THERES NO TURNING BACK! mediocre guitar solo tho. man i know heavy metal is NOT free from misogyny but relative to the rock weve gotten im so happy to be listening to lyrics that are about dumb fantasy / medieval concepts and not hating women. is there anything better than a silly little power metal ballad contemplative clean guitar intro i think not. also god damn so much of the bass work on these classic metal albums is so clean....i was just thinking abt tony iommi the other day for a similar example. u cant be doing big distorted guitars w epic solos w/o a bassline thats able to carry some melodic heft to it! god the pickup in momentum in the bridge !! they do tend to have a "lets just play an arp as fast as we can" style to solos which isnt my style but the outro fucks. god another crunchy intro riff + then switch to ANOTHER crunchy riff!! i havent ever watched the prisoner but i feel like that might make me psyduck emoji or i might rlly like it or maybe both? i fucking love metal riffs. god this major key chorus is so bright + almost corny but can u be a power metal fan if you dont occasionally like a kinda corny hokey cheesy goofball move. fuck i love IF YOU KILL ME / ITS SELF DEFENSE / BUT IF I KILL YOU / THEN I CALL IT VENGEANCE!! oh right here we go its the misogynist song [uhm] bro....slamming skip on that thats gross. and then for number of the beast im 10000% convinced they make the spoken world intro so quiet to make u turn the sound up all the way so the guitar comes in extra loud. tho ig they dont blast ur ears out thanks?? (insert rob halford in trial "if we could put coded messages in our records wed put DONT KILL YOURSELF BUY LOTS AND LOTS OF OUR NEXT RECORD" lol, but for deafening the listening). ANYWAY 6. 66. THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST!! god what a fucking legendary classic. theres no part of this that doesnt fuck. the spoken intro, the riffs, the YEEAAAAAAHHHHH in the top 5 most iconic metal screams, the lyrics being actually kinda good, the solo being much more expressive than their normal vibe, just the bridge / solo / after the solo section extended section in general. so good...I HAVE THE FIRE I HAVE THE FORCE I HAVE THE POWER 2 MAKE MY EVIL TAKE ITS COURSE - daily affirmations for myself (evil). oh god i forgot abt run to the hills lol. at least its like unambiguously anti colonization in spirit....???? which is more than u can say for many songs by white dudes abt indigenous north americans / "the wild west" ???? but also the lyrical/narrative (not technical which is good) execution is a little bit [raised eyebrow emoji] [uhm]. oh hmm idk how i feel abt gangland either. also yeah listening thru this i can absolutely see how metal sparked a moral panic like its easy for me to be like "this is pretty tame shit" in the 21st century but no in the 70s/80s this was abt Shocking Subject Matter both real world + fantasy. some of it is kinda edgy for no good reason but okay hallowed be thy name FUCKS thought interrupted. the long held note as the guitar riff starts!!! dude like its a shame that iron maiden is being hobbled by 80s ass edginess for the sake of edginess + misogyny bc the energy + technical achievement on this album fuck + there are moments w legitimate commentary (hallowed be thy name, run for the hills if you squint). thats def the biggest weakness for the laz end of album summary. like this is a 3.5/5 for me but i Cannot in good conscience give it a 4 bc of the character clause. would i buy a physical copy? yes altho it would be a pain to skip the songs in middle on like vinyl or smth. standout tracks: invaders, children of the damned, number of the beast, hallowed be thy name

3.5. algunes cançons m'han encantat i algunes se m'han fet avorrides. Overall millor del que esperava

a little too sing-a-long-y for my taste

Pretty much the whole album is naff but fun, added benefit that it doesn’t sound like anything else except this era of the band.

quite good. started sounding all the same. 3.5/5

Really not my style, but I guess it's well done.

It sounded to me like they were making fun of themselves. I laughed a couple times. Maybe it’s because I hear Jack Black singing?

I mean, pretty fun!

Fun but really only for the novelty of "hey look at me I'm listening to this crazy and pretty terrible Iron Maiden album!"

So funny. I had never really listened to Iron Maiden and thought of it as heavy bad ass metal. These guys are obviously excellent musicians but d&d fantasy dorks through and through. Maybe 80’s badass just doesn’t age well. 3 stars.

Energetic headbanger

3/5 Uhhh I don’t listen to Iron Maiden often but it always reminds me of old choreography, action, movies. Or media trying to catch that old 80’s to 90’s vibe like regular show or cobra kai.

From top to bottom a very listenable album. It would not be a go to to play/ listen to and will never be in the rotation of what I regularly listen to but it has its place. Enjoyably listenable.

I’ll admit that I haven’t listened to as much Iron Maiden as I should have. I usually reach for Live After Death when I want to listen to Iron Maiden. I’ve listened to Killers and Powerslave as well, but not a ton. I know that’s wrong. Anyhow, I have heard this one, but maybe never all the way front-to-back (I know that’s wrong). Anyhow, this rips, obviously. The bass playing, in particular, is great. It’s prototypical NWOBHM. Really starts hitting when The Prisoner comes in, and in general there’s some excellent cuts. Overall, I probably wouldn’t ever tell you to turn this off, but it isn’t a top NWOBHM release for me.

Expected to hate this, but it's not bad. Not my taste, though.

I enjoyed myself listening to this for what it is. I’m never gonna really be into metal music but I appreciate the theatrical quality, and even if the lyrics arent the most sophisticated, its fun that a lot of the songs are about distinctly varied topics that you don’t hear sung about much! 3/5

Oh hell yea, this kicks some ass. Never listened to this much Iron Maiden before but I really enjoyed most of this. Run for the Hills was a huge video game soundtrack memory for me and I was pumped to rediscover it. Will I go back to this? Probably not, but I'm glad that I did Best Song: Run For the Hills Rating: 7.5/10 3 Stars

i get why people like this. i feel like i can do anything when i listen! wouldn’t reach for it super often, but good stuff.

Don’t think we needed two Iron Maiden albums on this list. But if you don’t attempt to take this seriously it is pretty fun.

I am a fan of metal music, but I've never been much of an Iron Maiden fan. Personally I find this band and album overrated, but to each their own. This is not my first time through this album but it has been a long time. This time around the only track I enjoyed was "Children of the Damned". Yes, I did not enjoy "Run to the Hills". I am really not a fan of Bruce Dickinson's vocal style. For better or worse they did influence a bunch of metal bands, so they probably do deserve to be on the list. I didn't hate it, nor did I love it.

Run to the hills is an all-timer. This freakin rules. Also isn't Bruce Dickinson the name of Chris Walken in the cowbell sketch?

Not a huge post 80s metal fan but I liked this album.

Not really. Dunno

This was fun, and perfect for speeding through some work, but I don't think it's that good. Sounds a little cheesy, I think he's doing a little too much on the guitar and yea, but still I enjoyed listening to it. Strong 3

It had some good hits but got a bit monotonous. I thought I’d like it more.

Kick ass instrumentals. RUN TO THE HILLS is so energetically awesome. HALLOWED BE THY NAME and GANGLAND also strong, enjoyable metal tracks.

I was really excited to be given this album as my very first, and it was almost TOO perfect considering I was just thinking to myself that I need to explore more metal. I hadn’t heard a lot of Iron Maiden, save for “Wasted Years” from their sixth album Somewhere in Time (1986), which is one of my favorite songs in the genre. And overall, I was pretty impressed! I don’t think it’s the kind of music I’d necessarily seek out for myself (I’m realizing I don’t really like shreddy guitars as much as I should, considering I’m a guitarist myself). At the same time, I see WHY this album has been foundational for metal as we know it. I’ve seen a lot of reviews call the music a little corny at times, but honestly, with Bruce Dickinson’s dramatic, powerful, vibrato-tinged voice, the most heartfelt lyrics would still come off as corny to a lot of folks. That is not a bad thing! I consider his voice to be a a feature of the music, not a bug, and I can’t imagine these songs with any other vocalist. Musically, I think “22 Acacia Avenue” had the strongest guitar solo, but I really loved the main riff in “Hallowed Be Thy Name.” The choruses of “The Prisoner” and “Run to the Hills” were the catchiest in my opinion. As an admitted poptimist, I’m a sucker for a good, infectious chorus, and those songs absolutely delivered. I found it fascinating how the Wikipedia page highlighted the controversy surrounding the album’s religious imagery in songs like “The Number of the Beast.” I feel like had the album been released today, “Run to the Hills” would have been the more controversial track, being about the genocide of indigenous Americans. I feel like they tackled such a heavy topic with class though (aside from a few word choices that aged like milk), and it’s actually pretty admirable for a band to take on subjects from the darker parts of our history. They say those who forget history are doomed to repeat it, and art is a great way to continue to pass on stories from the past. Iron Maiden understood the assignment. I noticed some similarities between “Hallowed Be Thy Name” (my favorite track on the album) and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Styx’s “Renegade.” All three songs are about a condemned man reflecting on his life just prior to being hanged. What was with classic rock bands and songs about this topic? Still, I thought it was very well-executed and captured the panicked feeling of a man’s last moments on earth, just before reaching the gallows. And as I mentioned earlier, that guitar riff is legendary. Overall, the album wasn’t life-altering for me, but it was an enjoyable listen. I feel like I now better understand how it laid the groundwork for metal as a genre. If you’re more of a pop-leaning person like myself, it probably won’t do a lot for you, but if you like heavy, fast, and dramatic, this album is absolutely worth checking out.

I was fully prepared to begrudgingly listen, punch in a 2 star review, and move on to the next one. But I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would? I definitely didn’t hate it.

3 stars

Very interesting. Not sure if it’s entirely my taste but I do like a good metal song. This offered a lot of that :-)

7/10. Solid yet kinda generic to me. Vocals are hit or miss and not every song needs to be a big anthem.

This is the metal that I grew up with. Kinda boring, actually. Its all the same, or so it seems to me. 2.5/5

Black Sabbath but make it 80's. Last few songs are bangers.

I grew a neckbeard listening to this

good album, but not my style

it's ight

better than expected

A metal masterpiece

I liked the first few songs, super high energy with great guitar shredding. Songs are a bit too repetitive and the high tempo eventually gets a bit grating. I started getting a headache towards the end. I think this is a 3.5 - not really for me. My favourite track was the Prisoner.

Better than I expected for NWOBHM and this was on course for 4* but the tracks get samey and it does rival Oasis for stench of incel. 4* is for something I want to listen to again, this doesn't quite hit

I know this is a classic album and it is said to be one of the best metal albums ever, but I was never into metal - it was too repetitive, too samey, it was just the same rhythms with very energetic singing and riffs (the riffs were good though). Overall it is consistent album no doubt, and it wasn't unlistenable but personally it is not something I would listen to again soon.

I know that this is regarded as one of the best heavy metal albums of all time, and it's fun and all, but I can't help but feel that it hasn't aged well. It tends to be repetitive, monotonous and lyrically so simple that it borders on infantile. Standout tracks are The Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills. The rest is just solid metal. 3.5/5

MAIDEEEN I love early metal Vocals are goofy as hell tho lol

A heavy metal classic with iconic riffs, intense vocals, and a few memorable tracks. Not really the kind of music I see myself listening to on any regular basis.

1001 Albums #1 - TUE 12/11/24 01:10: First impressions: im not a fan of metal but this doesn't make me want to cry Final impressions: not a fan of the vocals or repetitiveness lyrically. All things considered not a bad album for the metal genre but i dont see myself revisiting this. 3/5 (avg of 60/100 across songs) T1 - Invaders: Lot of guitar stuff going on lol, no idea what the lyrics are as I'm not looking and it's quite fast but I don't mind the song, don't know that I would listen to it again per se though. Like a 65/100 T2 - Children of the Damned Tbh the continious repetition of children of the damned!!! is not doing it for me but i like the guitar riff towards the end. Like a 50/100 T3 - The Prisoner I like the intro guitar a lot, definitely best track yet. Still not 100% my thing? 70/100 T4 - 22 Acacia Avenue Last track before I go to bed! God it just keeps going im sorry it's not bad but it does not need to be 6 minutes. Definitely has the most typical metal genre feel to me yet (but what do I know abt metal lol). Okay glad it's over not going to lie! I'd say like a 35-40/100 T5 - The Number of the Beast im back baby, 17:43 12/11/24: okay i get why this is one of the most famous songs off the album and im like half a minute in. But again, wouldn't revisit, not too memorable either. 60/100 again. T6 - Run to the Hills i think my favourite track yet? Tad repetitive towards the end. Like a 70/100 T7: Gangland guitar solo is great, again i feel it's repetitive tbh which is a recurring theme for me on this album, and again don't care for the vocals. Like a 65/100 T8: Hallowed Be Thy Name Bit of a spookier vibe, i like it but it goes on for too long and also the vocals ugh who did this to you. I'd say a 55/100

3,42 Average "Invaders" 2,8 "Children of the Damned" 3,1 "The Prisoner" 3,3 "22 Acacia Avenue" 3 "The Number of the Beast" 3,5 "Run to the Hills" 4 "Gangland" 3,5 "Total eclipse" 3,4 "Hallowed Be Thy Name" 4,2

Enjoyed for what it is within its genre but nothing that would really make me come back for more.

I’m not a huge metal guy and have never been very well versed on Iron Maiden, but I like this more than I expected. The riffs, bass, music in general is cool, vocals aren’t super impressive or maybe just not my first choice stylistically. So it goes.

OK - this is a 3.5 for me, but I'll leave it at 3 stars in the review. This is Maiden coming together, but it's not all there yet. Bruce Dickinson joins for this album, and it does make a difference to me. He's so damn operatic, even a song about sex work sounds far grander with him singing. He's the human air raid siren after all. Steve Harris on bass is a beast in this band. Love how his bass is so prominent in the mix, it's another weapon for this band. Nicko McBrain won't join until the next album, the drumming is fine, but I prefer Nicko. Not all the songs on this album stand out, but there's enough material here that you can hear how the bass heavy, twin guitar attack is forming. These first four albums all have their moments, but none of them are "must haves." you'll get the good stuff all rolled into one on "Live After Death." The singles stand out (# of the Beast and Run To the Hills) I liked The Prisoner and Invaders as well. Hadn't heard this album in a long time but still prefer these early songs done live.

Not a huge Iron Maiden fan, but I dig it!

pretty sick

it aight, bit repetitive on the riffs and pace tho

Fun for a metal album. The musicianship is solid. Didn’t wow me, though.

Pleasantly surprised again by how non-scary and heavy Iron Maiden truly are. I do have time for a dose of hard rock from time to time and there's some great stuff here. Probably not going to emerge as a personal favourite but I've not minded having this around for a few days.

interesting heavy metal record good for halloween

I do really enjoy iron maiden but this album didn't really excite me. Great lyrics tho.

I'm actually an Iron Maiden fan, but I feel like they hadn't really found themselves yet with this one. I prefer the mid and late 80's albums where they were more polished.

This was a surprisingly solid album, I've never cared for Iron Maiden before but I got into this more than I thought I would. This old-school metal is not a genre of choice so I can't justify giving it more than a 3 from a personal enjoyment perspective, but I can acknowledge it's a rockin' one.

Grejen är den att jag gillar musiken men sången är så otroligt töntig så det blir svårt ändå. Run To The Hills är bra iallafall.

Iron Maiden är lite löjliga. Texterna är infantila. Förstår att det tilltalar unga personer. Sen känns det som att jag borde digga musiken mer. Men det klickar inte. Run to the hills är ju rätt najs. Men sången och se gälla gitarrerna tar emot en smula.

This feels like an extremely drinking beer with the boys type of album. It makes me think of the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of memories made to this album, and the lives it has influenced on the way. As the music itself goes, it is exactly what I expected, which isn't a bad thing. I could see myself listening to it again

Iron Maiden was my nearly as bad as I was expecting.

As for me. It is a strong3 because they have far more complex albums.

not bad

I'm not really a fan of heavy metal, which means I'm not a fan of Iron Maiden, the most heavy metal band in the history of heavy metal. I would describe this album as boring, repetitive and repetitive. Vocal kind of a grows on you after some time, they have nice guitar solos as well, but overall package is just so forgettable, it's crazy. Plus one star for Run to the Hills, only song by them that you will ever have to listen to.

Tempted to round up on the strength of the real good ones (especially the closing track). I bet if I went back and listened to this a year from now I would regret rounding down instead. Oh well. Iron Maiden rocks, regardless of rating.

Within the wider area of rock, I'm not the most familiar with metal and its origins, so it was interesting to go back to see where it was in the early 80s. I can definitely see the through line from hard rock. The guitar during the verse of Children of the Damned sounds like it could be from a Boston song. Same with the chorus in The Prisoner. I do find the themes and the general feeling of the album to be a bit one-note, and it does scratch that particular itch very well. I guess the problem is that I find myself loving either the verse OR the chorus in a given song, but rarely both. 22 Acacia Avenue is kinda cringe. But overall the album definitely does more right than wrong, and it's not a slog. Fav tracks: Children of the Damned, The Prisoner, The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills

666 Goes hard, but not fully my thing. 3*

It’s good if that’s your thing but it’s not really mine.

Good metal album

I'm not a heavy metal fan but slogging through the genre playing catch up. This was okay - Run to the Hills was the only song I'm familiar with and it works for energetic background music.

I fuck with it.

Look, y’know those optical illusion drawings where the picture is simultaneously two things? Like, it’s a duck AND a bunny or it’s a couple kissing AND a Greek urn or what have you? Well this album is, simultaneously, completely awesome AND the naffest thing I have ever heard.

It's got all the twists, turns, and screaming vocals you could want. From the epic title track to the spooky "22 Acacia Avenue," there's something for every metalhead. Sure, the production might sound a bit dated now, but it's part of the charm. It's like listening to a classic rock record. Even though it's old, it's still got that raw energy that makes you want to turn it up to 11.

solid, enjoyed guitar riffs and drumming not really inspired by the lyricism can see how it has influenced rock and roll but a bit cartoonish

You can tell the band are enjoying themselves, and not every album has to be deep. Even though it is more explicit in it's darkness, Black Sabbath still have more teeth

It's like an audiobook being screamed over heavy metal. But if you don't follow along with the story it can sound pretty repetitive.

This is better than their first album. This is what I think of when I think 80’s metal. Now it’s not my preferred genre but for what it is definitely a solid 3.5/5

Just not me.

I could see how this might have been subversive when it first came out, and caused controversy, but now it feels quite tame. I did enjoy the music a lot though. Again, probably feels tamer now than it did at the time, but still enjoyable.

Did not use a private session for Spotify. When I was in junior high and high school I knew people into metal, but I shied away from of it because of the satanic imagery in a lot of the album covers. Yes, I was raised religious. Now as a jaded adult I realize the bands aren't into Satan, it's just their schtick. I look back and wonder did I miss much avoiding metal when I was younger, really no need to wonder I can visit the music now. A couple of classics on here, but really didn't miss much.

The classic heavy metal band. Though I have been a metal fan in the past, I've never really been a big fan of Iron Maiden, mostly due to the higher pitched vocalists. This album was energetic, had a cool dark atmosphere with the lyrics and samples, and great guitar solos, though the bass was going nuts in a few tracks. Great for what it is and I found myself warming to the singer towards the end.

Huh. Musically, I actually enjoyed it. The vocals are just too affected and disingenuous. Aside from one or two inspired and artfully placed screams, dude sounds like phantom of the opera. The thematic concepts behind the tunes might be cool but these lyrics are simple, juvenile, boring.

yes but no + 1|8|9

Not bad

This album was okay. It started off with "Invaders" which I found really annoying and loud. My expectations for the rest was low at that point, but by the time the title track came on I was enjoying it. Favorite songs were: 2. Children of the Damned 5. The Number of the Beast 6/10

Fast paced tracks with intense guitar. Frantic vocals. Got repetitive after a while but still solid. Highlights: Invaders Run to the Hills

Outside of a few classic songs that resonate with me I’ve never been much of a Heavy Metal fan. Iron Maiden was always on my radar but lacked even those few classics that I could name honestly. Yet the album was solid, never had the feeling of being annoyed or impatient for it to end. A solid album.

Surprised by how “tame” this album is given what we have in 2024. Why was everyone outraged about this? Almost seems campy now - both the outrage and the music.

Iron Maiden is corny as hell but you will not hear me say that it's bad. Must have listened to the title track at least 666 times back in the day. Torn between a 3 and a 4, but honestly, I can't really defend a 4, as I don't really see myself listening very much to it as an adult. strong 3 it is.

Expected to completely hate this...but much to my surprise, I actually kind of enjoyed it. Can appreciate the quality within its genre.

I agree with the top review of this album; it's not for me. Yet, there is appeal in Children Of The Damned and Hallowed Be Thy Name.

The hits are great but that’s it

Not number of the beast and run for your life are really good. Enjoyed it more than we expected

Listened to this while playing Tainted Grail: Kings of Ruin solo. This album kinda worked well for playing this game. I was familiar with the name Iron Maiden, but it was not the kind of music I was allowed to listen to as a child. I was kind of surprised how much it sounds like Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Seems like well made music but heavy metal just isn’t what I’m feeling now

It's OK

Not my style 2.5/5

its great but they could've maiden effort trying to iron out some of the rough spots on this album 3/5

It's exactly what it says on the tin

Solid album, would give it a 3.5

3.5 I liked this much more than I thought I would

For what it is, its one of the best examples. But it is targetted at 15-year-olds. Gets boring fast

Ah, silly stuff but all in good fun.

Number and Run to the Hills are solid classics

Not really my favorite style of music. Although the musicians are definitely talented. The galloping bass lines have been emulated by many metal bands the followed Iron Maiden. It's the signature of most of the bands songs. Vocally, it reminded me of Dio, the high falsetto on many tracks. This album perfectly exemplifies the genre

Today the songs on The Number Of The Beast sound like "kiddie metal" compared to the metal music that would follow. On the one hand, it's schlocky and dumb. On the other hand, it's total fun.

22 Acacia Avenue felt like the metal version of Roxanne by the Police, overall solid album. My fav track was definitely the last one “Hallowed Be Thy Name”

Okay, this was a fun listen. Not my usual cup of tea as I'm not a big heavy metal fan, but I bet it would be such a good time listening to this with someone who really loves it. Sometimes someone else's joy is all you need to hear through new ears. Also makes me want to re-watch School of Rock.

Not an Iron Maiden fan but that doesn't make this album bad.

I can't distinguish one sing from another, but it isn't unenjoyable metal. I don't think anyone will approach Iron Maiden expecting greater depth than could drown a field mouse, so it's good for what it is.

Excellent musicianship. Reasonable tunes...never liked Dickenson though. Ok showman but never been able to sing.

I don't really have much to say about this album other than it sounded pretty cool.

Sometimes I get in the mood for this sort of thing. It’s fine. I think it’s consorting with the devil was edgy at the time. Now it just seems juvenile. The music is great though.

Gooooood

aaaaaaaa nooo pleaseeee

Not the biggest fan of Iron Maiden but like yeah

I enjoyed the self titled quite a bit, yet this one left me underwhelmed. Most likely just wrong album at the wrong time, but it's still decently made. Definitely better than some other metal shit I've heard on here.

Classic metal band. Definitely innovators, but I do hear some Van Halen influence in there. The bass stands out for me. It's prominent on most of the songs. There's of course some shedding on the lead, but later metal music takes that to a different level. Good grooves on here. I like the energy on Run to the Hills.

Made me smile listening to this again. Best tracks are The Number Of The Beast and Run To The Hills 3/5

I enjoyed the guitar everything else was alright but I understand why they are on the list after listening to them

Honestly, doesn't live up to the 5 star album cover

Surprisingly fun and energetic, happy music

Just not for me.

really not my style. every song sounds the same and while i used to like hallowed be thy name ive burnt out of it now as well. low 5/10

If the original DOOM was set in the 1300s.

Favourite song was The Prisoner

nice rock album, i think i liked more of the instrumetal part, is really heavy an rough. top3: children of damned, number of the beast, run to the hills

The singles rip, but the rest of the album really didn't connect for me. 2.5/5

I couldn’t listen to this without picturing Spinal Tap in my head the entire time. That made it a little hard to take it seriously, but ultimately it worked in their favor and I liked this better than I thought I would. “Amused” may not have been the emotion they were hoping to invoke, but it earns them a 2.8 rounded up to a 3.

This would be a four if there were no vocals; the singing does not hold up against the deft guitar licks. I think they knew this, as the singer often sounds like he is behind the instruments. A tip of the hat to “The Prisoner” clip. Three plus.

This has some killer riffs and Bruce Dickinson's vocals are powerful,. I'm not a metal fan but this is for sure a classic.

Solid album -- not sure I'd run through it again.

Favorite: Invaders Horror is a genre in literature and film, why not music. The songs are dark, but tell a good story, often bordering on horror. The album is far more melodic and story driven than I expected. I can't say I'll revisit it very often, but I will likely come back to it.

1982 heavy metal

not my favorite megadeath album, but a solid listen. consistently good, no real dips in quality

Terrific heavy metal. It’s very dramatic and theatrical. The guitar shredding is sick, the drums are really tight and pack a big punch, and the bass parts are complex and interesting. Overall I think I was more impressed than I was fully engaged in the music. I liked the showmanship more than the actual songs. Still, much respect to the band. I never listened to Iron Maiden before and I like when this list makes me spend time with a band I had only heard about. 3.5

1. invaderz - 1.5 2. damned - 1.5 3. prizoner - 1 4. avenue - 2 5. beazt - 1 6. hillz - 2 7. gangland - 1.5 8. eclipzed - 1 9. name - 2

Classic metal album, but not really my style.

Rad & rockin. The track Number of the Beast is still the main stand out to me tho.

Reminds me of high school. I have a ton of Iron Maiden in a playlist I made titled "high school pretending," because I always liked them but always pretended to like them way more than necessary to fit in with the cool metal kids. That said, it's a great album! It's got some classic hits. Hate the cover art though.

2.5 It's intriguing that "lame" and "male" are made of the same letters, isn't it? Well, both those words apply to anyone who enjoys this kind of music

Appreciate the talent of Iron Maiden and the popular songs of course jump out and are extremely great to listen to. Prefer to have them as songs on a playlist rather than listen to a whole album.

Old metal sounds like rock.

One hell of a metal album!

Not a fan, but definitely I would categorize it as an epic album for any metal fans. Wild and impressionalbe guitar solos and dramatic volcals. Probably amazing live .

I had some friends who loved the Iron Maiden in middle/high school. While it was not my favorite, I can now appreciate the precision and awesome vocals of Bruce Dickinson.

This wasn’t bad but definitely feels dated. For me Iron Maiden is more of a greatest hits band. The songs I really thought were great were ones I already knew, Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills. The rest of the songs weren’t bad, they just didn’t grab me. A lot of them felt too long. I understand that Iron Maiden are metal pioneers and I can see their influence in this album. But I prefer later metal that’s a little heavier. Maiden is just too clean sounding to me, that and I’m not a big fan of Dickinson’s vocals.

Pretty awesome. Crazy fast and fun riffs. Very fun songs but not something that is making me think too much about it.

One of the hard rock standards of late 70's early 80's Well deserved

Sweet guitar but damn is Bruce’s voice grating. How can 6 minute fast metal songs feel like they last ages?

Scooby Doo chase music. Music quite literally doesn't get goofier than whatever you call this "Saturday morning cartoon intro"-ass subgenre of heavy metal, but I guess it's serviceable dumb fun. Very formulaic though. I wish that Bruce Dickinson will one day be free from the evil witch's curse making him do that vocal trill every few seconds. I think I like "Powerslave" more, but maybe that's because it was the only Iron Maiden album I was familiar with before this project. Still like a strong 3/5 though.

Good album

This was a good album…I liked it but didn’t love it.

Very silly but fun. 3.5

FAVO: The Prisoner, Run to the hills

Well produced but not my thing

Iron Maiden have a very distinctive sound. It’s okay but I got a bit tired of it. Not a fan of their cover art. Listens: 1 Fave Track: Run to the Hills Rating: 3

I just can't get into Iron Maiden. I don't get it, and think the singer sucks.

Thus far, metal has just not really done anything for me. This was no different. I found it a little more accessible than the Metallica stuff I’ve heard. This was clearly a classic album given its age compared to the metal genre, and Iron Maiden is obviously a pillar of a band when it comes to metal. But as most metal has done, this fell on largely deaf ears. There was absolutely no dynamic range throughout the entire album. It was all high stakes, all max volume, all up tempo, all the time. And that’s metal for the most part. But to the untrained ears it’s difficult to discern any significant differences between songs outside of their lyrics. So I sit here, writing this, unable to tell you much else about this record. I did like some of the tracks, but the only motivation I have to do any relistening is to see if I can better tell each song apart. 3 stars simply because it was very well made, clearly inspired, and stands today as a classic album and, I assume, a timeless example of its genre. Standout tracks: Invaders, The Prisoner, The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills

For a metal album, it actually has a feel good vibe to it. I bet my wife and I could totally cruise to this music.

cool album, listened 2x. 3.4/5

Not sure I could tell one song from another but it was loud fun while it lasted

6/10 - There was some songs that I liked a little bit. It was all too much though some of the time. I can see why run to the hills and hallowed be thy name two of the more popular songs since they were my favorites from the album as well. I do not think I will really listen to them in my free time however.

Enjoyed some of them, the guitar was sick. Sometimes felt a bit too edgy for me to enjoy that much

Run to the Hills and some other tracks rip. Throwback to SSX on the gamecube. Some of the vocals don't really land for me, but when it all comes together right there's some great moments. It's hard for something to hold up for 40 years, and I couldn't tell how serious the album was supposed to be. I never realized Dragonforce was just Iron Maiden sped up until listening to this.

It was certainly an album but it was kind of repetitive at points. It’s more background music than active listening

Metal and heavy music was my very much my wheelhouse growing up. I knew Iron Maiden's huge songs but I never gave them much time. Most bands featuring a vocal style like Bruce's dont usually do much for me, and ultimately thats what holds this album back for me. Musically its great at times and overall i was pleasantly surprised. Got a few solid songs added to my library out of it. Always happy about that

Classic metal

Slightly better than the other Iron Maiden album I listened to (only two days ago!) I like this one marginally better. And I could actually see myself listening to this again. For some reason this reminded me a lot of Spinal Tap. The lyrics aren’t as funny but there does seem to be the same level of irreverence. 3.5/5

What more listenable than thrash metal but still not great

Again, I went into an Iron Maiden album expecting to dislike it. And again they won me over. These songs rip. The lyrics definitely leave a lot to be desired. Especially the one that says “molest her”.

Cool album, cool guitar, better played in the car then off your headphones

Metal not my favorite but can’t hate too much

really strong, maybe too much to listen it in normal days..

En trea bara för att jag är snäll.

It was much more pleasant than expected. The singer really reminded me of other 80s hair band. Probably won't seek it out again but my ears aren't bleeding.

What 13 year old boy doesn't want a full size poster of the Eddie demon crashing through his door? I had the poster AND several t-shirts. Then I listened to the music and I was like WTF? Is this "rock opera"? This blows worse than Queensryche. And that's pretty much where my 13 year old self left this band. So listening to Iron Maiden 37 years later, do I have a difference of opinion? I can appreciate it a little bit more than I did back then. It's OK. The songs I like the best are actually the 2 longer ones: 22 Acacia Avenue & Hallowed Be They Name. I just like the riffs and song changes better and maybe the longer songs give them time to riff through more changes which falls in line with their vibe which is this sort of opera-metal epicness. I just want them to release a one song album that's 30 minutes long!
