Reviews (page 13 of 13)
Sounds like if Charlie and Mac made a band. I was excited to listen and was disappointed. It all felt, flat. Vaguely comical. Not in a good way.
What can I say?? Oliver you almost made it?
Never really listened to Iron maiden and this was a good opportunity. Couldn’t get over how much I liked the singers voice. Good rock rifts but not my cup of tea
Lyrics are filled with white supremacy themes
Surprisingly tolerable. Couldn't stand the follow on.
Lyrics are comedy gold, right up there with Spinal Tap. They didn't mean it, right?
See Anthrax, but with slightly better tunes. It's as if they just got a white board out and asked some 12 year old boys to write the nastiest stuff they could think of on there. Then they made songs about that. Two and a half stars, because Run To The Hills was good and 22 Acacia Avenue reminded me of Bananaman, who lived 7 doors up the road.
It’s aight, but i just don’t love 80s metal like that. If I wanted something prog there are things that do it better, if I wanted something really hard, i much preferred the germs record I just got a couple days ago. 2 since we can’t be Mr nice guy
Not my cup of tea
p500. 1982. 2 stars. Well done of its type, but heavy metal leaves me cold, and Bruce Dickinson sounds like he has a hernia.
uhh it’s fine, it’s not for me
Favourite song - Run to the hills
Other than "Run for the Hills" the whole thing is pretty ridiculous. Maybe in my younger days, but now it just seems a bit laughable.
I love heavy metal But Iron Maiden is mediocre especially lead singer’s style is not my cup of tea
Denim jacket with patches of recognizable metal bands Random Gildan Bandshirt Slightly torn skinny jeans Vans
Not bad, just not my thing. Appreciate thst they were doing some sort of early 80s social justice on a few songs, even if the results are oof. Rad cover, though.
Might have been able to get into the rollicking metal fun of this, and the crazy story-telling element of the songs (viking invaders? sad prostitutes?) but his voice seems like such a genre parody - shrieking, dramatic, probably suitable for the histrionic nature of the music - but not my thing at all.
I've never gotten along with Iron Maiden. I find them unendearingly cheesy and lacking in everything which makes for good rock/metal in my eyes. They're also not as cool as their own t-shirts.
2/5
did not listen, very much not my mood during this time lol
Theatre.
Impressions: Sounds like a generic heavy metal to me. Not for me. Favorite tracks: Invaders, Run to the Hills Rating: 2/5
Happi metal. Fun to listen to, but the trope falls apart quite easily.
I can appreciate this, I guess. Not really my thing. Invaders & Run To the Hills are fine, but I wouldn't listen further.
My weekly capacity to listen to metal is fully tapped out. A generous 1.5.
I didn’t realize that Jack Black was the lead singer of Iron Maiden. This is 100% not the type of music I would listen to, but since I like Tenacious D then it would be disrespectful to not rate this at least 4/10. So, there you go ——— 4/10 solely because of my love for Jack Black.
Ok so poser alert I do have an Iron Maiden shirt because I thought the design was cool without having really listened to the band, sorry for my sins, but that being said this was my first foray into the band. It is a type of white dad rock that doesn’t necessarily resonate with me but I found myself having a lot of fun listening if anything. Something about the vocals, going somewhere I least expect it, it’s almost camp. Wish I could give this a 2.5, I’m oscillating somewhere between 2 and 3 for this album….
(2.5⭐️) listened while making dinner so i wasn’t paying attention to the lyrics. fave: run to the hills
lyrically sooooo boring and shallow but i can't deny it has some bangers. sounds better if you imagine an epic gaelic vampire battle happening. favorites: children of the damned, hallowed be thy name least favorites: the prisoner
Overall: These dudes can't write lyrics but they can play instruments. This album made me think about how much good rock music had already come out 5+ years before this album. This sound is the White Man 80s Rock that I personally don't enjoy. I wouldn't complain if this were on in someone's car but I will not be revisiting any of the songs here. Invaders, Children of the Damn, Gangland, The Number of the Beast: Very fun guitar soloing, love the instruments. Lyrics feel like a bunch of 8th graders having a fun time playing pretend and talking about movies they watched while staying up late last night. These guys are not good at writing lyrics! But they do know how to save their song with a fun instrumental break. The Prisoner: Fine. Whatever 22 Acacia Avenue: One of the songs that really makes me think about how by 1982 this had already 1. Been Done 2. Been Done Better. The lyrics are genuinely bad (not just because they're misogynistic, which they are). At no point am I convinced the singer has seen a woman before!! Run For the Hills: Led Zeppelin put out "Achilles Last Stand" six whole years before this album was released. Makes you think. Hallowed Be Thy Name: Best song on the album imo!! Good strong ending.
Overall, what I expected. Got a bit drone like for me.
iron maiden are like the S Club 7 of rock music. i should hate it with every bone in my body for its cheese metal background, theatrical singing and overly cheerful disposition but for some unknown reason i don't. the bit that completely ruins my brain is the attitude given off by the stonewashed jeans, battle jacket clad ale drinkers in the rock pub and the ridiculous comedy music that iron maiden produce. it just doesn't go together.
We're on a slow march to death with these recent albums. Begging for it to be over at this point. 19 to go...
Invaders: didn’t really do anything for me, reminds me of guitar hero 2/5 Children of the damned: this will probably be my favorite song on the album, I like that it’s a little “slower” 4/5 The prisoner: I like the the way the chorus sounds and the guitar solo, but overall this song doesn’t do much for me either 3/5 22 acacia avenue: nothing about this one stood out to me, I don’t like it, too long 1/5 The number of the beast: nothing special in this one, the past few have kinda blended together 2/5 Run to the hills: I like this one, probably because it just sounds different than the past few songs, love the drums in this song 4/5 Gangland: mostly while listening to this is was thinking about how it kinda sounded like billy from grim adventures was singing 2/5 Total eclipse: I like the down tempo (outro?) part of the song but I was mostly bored while listening 2/5 Hallowed be thy name: Strong last entry, my favorite part of the song was was the guitar beats, I thought they stood out from the other songs on the album 3.5/5 Overall thoughts: really just not a genre I listen to much and I have no emotional connection to music from this era, I found a lot of the songs to blend together and was somewhat bored while listening
Musically they are talented, but not my thing
It is what it is. A bit of nostalgia from the titular track thanks to too many hours on THPS - but that's all I got out of it.
Even as a metal head, I could never get into Iron Maiden. I'm old enough to have at least caught the end of their big era, but I can't get there. It's very dramatic and they're great musicians in the twin guitar power metal style, and Bruce Dickinson is as operatic as any of those other big metal singers of the era. Problem is I just don't like those qualities. If you like the style, Iron Maiden is probably on your top 10. The musicianship is top tier. The songs are energetic and they have a unique sound (I'd argue their contemporaries Judas Priest, who came out first, do basically the same thing) but I can't get past what I feel is the cheesy comic book-y content of their music. Great band that I don't care for. This album is fine, but never really did a chance with me
Maybe the least wretched of all the major metal acts, these cats are still pretty awful, but they have the cleanest, clearest sound and seem to want to play the fastest, too. The singer aims to be operatic, foolishly, one think. Here and there, if one's not mistaken, one detected something like a melody emerging from all the furious noise and speed. And it's not really alll that demonic, now is it? Still, most root canals would be preferable to ever hearing this, again or once, no matter when one is slated/fated to die.
Once again, the album cover art is off-putting. So is the title. I'm not excited to listen to this but I've committed to this project so here goes... Invaders sounds pretty much like what I'd expected upon seeing the cover art. Noisy and chaotic. However, Children of the Damned is thankfully more melodic. The Prisoner takes us back to the chaos, though. The rest of the album is pretty much more of the same. The last song, Hallowed Be Thy Name, is somewhat of a standout for having a bit more melody than just loud, noisy, electric guitar, but the end of the song ramps back up to what, to me, sounds like noisy chaos. That's the issue I have with heavy metal. All the songs start sounding the same. I get bored.
not 4 me sorry
Not a metal fan. There was only one track I would say I enjoyed
Humm.. quite not my type :( The guitar is ok but I can't bear people shouting that way..
I don't like this type of metal. Overly repetitive, but got some good tunes like the intro in the last song
during the first few songs I thought "all boomer metal sounds the same, this stuff sounds exactly like the "Run to the hills" group" imagine my shock a bit later
Nope
Couldn’t be any lamer if it had polio.
Amazing riffs but horrendous vocals. It's classic but damn do I hate it. 2*
It just sounds like a metal album to me.
not sure if I liked it or not 2/5
Not for me
It was okay. I really like the instrumentals but i kind of cant stans the singing
It is what it is. Production is pretty bad (even the remastered version) 1.6
BL: Iron Maiden was my first introduction to metal with their track “run to the hills” and the powerslave album when I was around 12 years old. Will be good to finally listen to an album of theirs other than what I’m familiar with. AL: to be honest this was kind of weak. I can appreciate the level of charm it has but nothing really does me with iron maiden anymore. I have nostalgia for run to the hills but nothing else really so it felt quite shite really. I can’t quite put my finger on why I find it so mid nowadays but I do FT: “run to the hills” 2/5
Run to the hills has a very catchy refrain 👌
Not my cup of tea
Not for me
The least shitty heavy metal band is still pretty shitty.
Langweilig.
I appreciate it to an extent, but everything is so in-your-face.
not really my cup of tea tbh, got bored, all the songs sounded the same
Kinda fun to have listen, not really my jam though
It's fine, but nothing memorable.
Cringey, clichey, try too hard-ey, same sound in each song-ey
Not great. Was never really a fan of them or this type of music, or Bruce's voice for that matter, and I don't think this is their best either.
The theatricality and glaminess that’s always hovering around heavy metal is very apparent on Iron Maiden’s “Number of the Beast.” Unrelated to the music, the artwork of Derek Riggs on Iron Maiden’s album covers is iconic and synonymous with 80s metal music.
Simply not my thing.
Not a fan of the lyrics but the guitar riffs are cool
Not one of my favorites
It was okay. Metal which was interesting. Not my favorite.
It was almost bad enough to be good, but not quite. Very Spinal Tap-like, and just a bit more prog-rock sounding than I expected. The lyrics are so comically ridiculous. An example: White man came across the sea, He brought us pain and misery, He killed our tribes, he killed our creed, He took our game for his own need. We fought him hard, we fought him well, Out on the plains we gave him hell, But many came, too much for Cree, Oh, will we ever be set free? Sounds like a B- creative writing assignment for a 17 year old. 2 stars.
I’m not into metal whatsoever so this was a bit of a challenging listen for me. I didn’t hate it but it did nothing for me. I can understand why it’s on the list, though.
Better than most of the metal on this list I guess
Silly overblown hair metal.
Liked a couple of songs, more than I was expecting.
This really isn't my thing at all. Never has been, never will be. I had to have a rest from listening to it half way through to give my ears a rest. Bit of soothing Dizzy Gillespie instead - and I don't really do jazz.
Rollo. No me suena ninguna canción.2
Not for me.
Sounds like Iron Maiden
Meh.
I've heard some of the songs before but even when I listened to heavy metal in my younger years, Iron Maiden just wasn't on my list of favorites.
another generic old metal album. not particularly interesting to listen to. overall meh
I didn’t find the album terribly painful to my ears, but I also didn’t find it at all interesting.
This was about what I expected. Well, I don't think I expected the singer to sound like that. It's clear that what he's doing takes great skill. But to my ears, it's not really worth the trouble. I found it not all that interesting and only slightly annoying.
I've never been an Iron Maiden fan. Then again, there are a lot of heavy metal groups that have come up in this project that I ended up liking more than expected. I hope that's the case here. I didn't enjoy the music much. The lyrics were at best irrelevant, at worse punching down (like 22 Acacia Avenue - really couldn't find a better target for the negative energy than a woman in the sex trade? Am I supposed to be glad it ends with him forcing her to come with him? What a gentleman...). "Run To The Hills" seems to be an indictment of the treatment of the Native Americans, maybe a tiny bit less offensive to the subject of the song than Acacia Avenue? My favorite song was the closing track, "Hallowed Be Thy Name", about a prisoner on the verge of execution. I like this track. This project has shown me that I'm not averse to heavy metal if they have decent melodies and/or interesting lyrics as I discovered when I found myself enjoying Megadeth and Black Sabbath. Iron Maiden still isn't really for me. I'll give it a 2 because the musicianship is very good as was the last song. Most of the rest of this left me uninterested in ever hearing it again.
I think I gave their debut LP a 3, which may have been a bit generous. I liked the vocalist and proggy tracks. Here, they've swapped for a more standard screaming metal vocalist, who I find annoying, as I do the lyrics of the cliched signature track, Number of the Beast. But I still like some of the guitar solos on the moodier pieces. It could have been worse.
Not my style of music.
Bit samey other than Run to the Hills. Made an alternative to Wham, I guess
ikkje så fan av iron maiden
I find this so exhausting.
Run to the hills is the highlight of an otherwise tinny and empty sounding album. needs more umpf.
It Is, what it is, and I don't like Iron Maidens style.
Not for md
Not for me
Not my usual thing but actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would
Oh god not another one. I recognise singles this time. But 2 Iron Maiden albums on the trot man, hard life
Gritty metal, højt tempo, energisk, voldsomt
Nice guitars. That's about it.
Only remembered to listen at the last minute. Fell asleep pretty quick
not a huge hard rock person tbh
Really didn’t like this one... wasn’t a big heavy metal fan
Pathetisch speenvarken.
Knowing that it's not my kind of music, it surprised me.
Ai... Rock né... Chatin
Rollo. No me suena ninguna canción.
While I have respect for Iron Maiden and the work they have done, and I love a few songs, I just don't like the speed metal any more. Not a fan.
Not really my style. Songs all kinda feel the same to me.
Pretty forgettable heavy metal. 5/10
Didn’t enjoy this one as much.
mmmmmeurgh.
Not my type of music. Too melodramatic at times. Fairly predictable chord progressions. Not my cup of tea.
Surey Good - but not for me
Not a huge fan of heavy rock but this was better then I was expecting
I want to like their stuff more. Bruce Dickinson's got a hell of a voice, and the band's got style apart from their music. But I simply don't find any of the ones in this album remarkable.
Iron Maiden and I have outgrown eachother. I don't like Bruce Dickinson's voice
please i’m begging no more hard rock please
Förlåt, men tål inte Bruce röst.
Derek Riggs creates the horror cartoons and Steve Harris claims to have created the logo however there are conflicting opinions to that. The best I have discovered so far is that it was an uncredited font by Alphabet Photosetting called Busk(source.fonts in use). Dennis Wiilcok, then a studio manager at Crowes Studio in 1977, ordered the bands name as PMTs (pre computer typesetting was photographic-type physical prints) Allegedly his young designer Ray Hollingsworth adapted it to the Maiden logo. (source dafont.com)There is chatter that Vic Fair designed the bespoke font but most likely is that he was an early user and just ordered the font from the type house. You can get your own version as it was redrawn in 1996 and renamed 'Metal Lord' Usually those with the loudest voice who say it the most often get to claim the credit. Not a great sleeve but good branding . Music is horrible
First skip. Not interested
Not listening
Really couldn't stand this album. The Run to the Hill chorus was familiar but the rest was just no rhythm, no beat, noise
Oh no, another heavy metal one, just not my thing at all
No thanks
Ya...no.
I don’t think of myself as a prude, but songs that lionize genocide (Run for the Hills) and rape/abuse (ditto + 22 Acacia Avenue) are a “no” for me. The band might have a rationalization for these songs and not really mean any of it. But there’s nothing tongue-in-cheek about it. And their “Oh no, this presents both sides of the genocide” falls flat. The music and the singing are technically fine, but the music itself and the lyrics are cartoonish and simple. A 1.
no es mi estilo
wow, I realize that this group has a huge following but this type of music has never appealed to me. I kind of liked the Black Sabbath album (gave it 3?) but this is a very different vibe. I feel like there are a lot of groups like this and I just have no interest in listening
Maybe one day but right now, no.
Not really for me. I might give up on this
just not my thing really :/ never has been :/
Greattt
No me gusto, es muy rockero y eso no me gusta y la voz de el me pareció fea
Not available on Tid
Just crap
The kind of album I dread appearing on my daily feed, this band were a joke in my childhood, and kind of funny when their songs went to the top of the charts then dissapeared again, with titles like "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter". Little did I know that years later some people actually treated this music seriously (but I thought they were a joke, which they were in school) and then wind to today and 7 of their albums are bolded - in a row - on rateyourmusic. Does this mean I treat this album more seriously now? Kind of. Did I enjoy it? No. Will I ever willingly listen to it again? No
Idk mane im not trying to get possesed. Had to listen to make sure other people dont. Great riffs on prisoner
Not a fan
It's not noodling, it's foolish & humorless, but what do you expect from the group that could almost be a great indie band but decided to go all out on camp and the polished technicalities of eighties metal, i.e., generic pop-rock from the nineties. I don't know if it's run its course or if it ever really had one, but I do know that it's not only not for me but it oughtn't be for any of us who appreciate a changing/daring art form. Iron Maiden's notion of the sublime is to front their songs w/ thirty secs of soft & introspective licks, & then to return to their redundancies. It's almost inexplicable that people still dig this shit - it's not hard & heavy, it's neat & refined, soulless & witless, something I'd never return to even for the joke of it. A baffling eyesore.
This was as bad I thought it would be. Iron Maiden can hit even the lowest of bars.
I can’t stand them….
Fun but utter crap. 1/5
This just wasn’t my genre. I gave the album a listen all the way through but didn’t enjoy any of the songs.
"Iron Maiden are an institution" apparently. Should be locked up in an institution for crimes against music IMHO. Spinal Tap got it spot on. That film wasn't a spoof, it was reality for the likes of Iron Maiden.
Puke. For such scary imagery, the band is rather tepid.
The lyrics were interesting but the overall sound was just not for me.
no no no 12/30/2025
not my cup of tea
Believe that people actually liked heavy metal in the early 80s. I truly can’t tell if these guys are joking with their lyrics and the way that they’re singing kind of fitting into that heavy metal sound or if they’re truly meaning to be that way. Not my cup of tea.
Blah blah blah rah rah rah
Mmmmm sorry MPF I won’t be attending this year. I felt like I was in a scooby doo episode and didn’t like it. Get a point because they’re West Ham x
Crap
I do not like heavy metal. Not for me.
I hate heavy metal
Too dad rock ew. I wish I liked it
I don't even know what to say about this. Cartoon Rock Posturing. Ridiculous, and not in a good way.
Refused to listen.
Heavy Met🤮
Den Einfluss der Band erkenne ich an. Aber überhaupt nichts für mich.
Dnf
Skilful but it’s metal
*No music, screaming vocals, banging and screeching instruments. Not easy listening
That blasphemous!
"Putain... Iron Maiden." "The Number of the Beast" et son intro parlée, "Run to the Hills" et son rythme de cavalcade...
I really tried but this is not my thing at all.
Uggg
Not for me. I don’t like the main singers voice very much. The instrumentals are pretty decent.
It's just not my thing. It's my second iron maiden album I've been force to listen to. The first one was ok, but this album feels like a formulaic money grab. Just another new album every year sort of thing. dull
struggled with his album, the songs felt like they went forever and i found the entire thing completely unimpressive
I’ll admit, when everyone was losing their minds over devilish mascots and galloping guitar riffs back in ’82, I just didn’t see the appeal, and revisiting it now hasn’t changed my mind. The opening track stomps in like a blaring alarm clock, but instead of waking me up, it just makes me wonder why anyone thought “digital clock in Hell” was a clever metaphor. Vocals swing between operatic high notes and growly shouts, but to me it just sounds like someone warmed up their throat and swept the entire keyboard for every note. Guitar solos are everywhere...seriously, they duel so much I half expected a referee to show up, but they feel less like melodic storytelling and more like two dudes racing to hit the fastest scale. The rhythm section pounds along faithfully, but it’s like watching someone do bicep curls without ever flexing; technically impressive, sure, but zero flair or surprise. Look, I get this album is “legendary” in heavy-metal circles. For me, it’s like being handed a cup of black coffee when I asked for a latte, technically coherent but missing everything I find enjoyable. So yeah, one star. If you’re into epic guitar gymnastics and medieval horror vibes, more power to you, just don’t expect me to join the fan club anytime soon.
I don’t really like this kind of music very much
I listened to the first song, but couldn't listen to the rest. I love Jesus and it didn't sit well with me. Musically interesting, lyrically couldn't do it.
No.
I just can't be arsed to even try and listen to this head banging shite
Didn’t like it when it came out either.
This probably gets a lot of play on hell's jukebox.
Not my thing! can’t stand the singer’s voice!
I really dislike this album.
If I could give it zero I would, this is a piece of worthless trash.
I'm good! No need to listen again
Pure slop, really no other way around it
Reeeeeeeal boring.
Good
Nothing groundbraking in My opinion Music from another decade
Joyless, sexless incel music. There's a special place for Iron Maiden, alongside Oasis and The Osmond's, where the damage they have done to society far outweighs anything they have achieved creatively. Far from being the standard bearers of NWOBHM, they should be considered the absolute worst (give me Saxon any day of the week).
No.
This is no not my kind of music.
Never liked heavy metal. Musicianship is undeniable, but it doesn't do anything for me.
this was genuinely not good like i did not like this at all.... it was just bad
Can take it or leave it.
Not the worst album I’ve ever heard, but not for me
no me gusta el rock
I hate heavy metal. Literally skimmed it
I have a friend whose favorite band is Iron Maiden. He would be so upset if I give this anything less than 5 stars. He should be prepared to be upset.
Iron Maiden always struck me as a band for people who mistake loud guitars for actual talent. Fitting, since they were the favourite band of a former classmate of mine, who once tried to convince everyone she had taste. Simultaneously, she also tried to convince people I didn’t. I guess some people need Iron Maiden to feel interesting. One star for the band, and one tiny spotlight for you, my friend.
I think I'm becoming immune to hard rock riffage, pounding drums, aggressive guitar onslaughts, wild solos, etc. from doing this project. But I cannot forgive the ridiculous vocals and lyrics.
So so
How do people listen to song with lyrics that are so fucked up. I’m pretty sure this is what satanic cults play while preparing their sacrifices. Drummer gets props on The Prisoner. I have not researched this, but I’m going out on a limb and saying these dudes are not in any way Native American, so the Run to the Hills song makes me roll my eyes hard. I hope I did not invoke the devil in listening to this album. I had to cleanse my palette with Miley and Pharrell’s Doctor.
Nope.
Wasn't my cuppa. The vocal tone didn't bring anything interesting for me. The songs felt often too long, didn't save any of them.
boring
I never took this music seriously. It was and remains a punchline. Beavis and Butthead felt the same. Unserious music for angry, white males.
Just can't get into this music! Lyrics sound like they were written by an 11-year-old. Because you play your instrument impressively fast, it doesn't mean it sounds good! The singer's dramatic voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Would give it no stars if I could!
Dog shit
I’ll never understand how people like this kinda stuff
Not for me.
glad we had something different for once, not a fan of rock so I give it 2/10 My fav song was the number of the beast
nah
Like really not my type of music. I liked the second song on the album but then again I only did listen to the first two. It was too aggressive.
Pre-listening thoughts: I don’t do metal. Post/during listening thoughts: I still don’t do metal. 2/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: hell no Fav tracks: I guess Run to the Hills? Like I didn’t even like it but it’s sadly the one that’s going on my playlist so Least fav tracks: Invaders, Children of the Damned, 22 Acacia Ave (god this one is BADDDD), The Number of the Beast (corny!)
I was 18, and really into metal, when this came out. Even then I knew this was shit.
No thanks
No me gusta el heavy metal
6/5/24 hate heavy metal, couldn’t even get through this whole thing. not for me 0/10
Boring
Well this was hard to get through. Long intros and llooonnggg songs! If I had to pick a title it would be Children of the Damned
Junk
Nope. The whole aesthetic is off-putting to me.
fuck iron maiden they can all go suck a bunch of fat cocks. cordially, luna
Gross.
Not as bad as I expected
Not gonna listen first song sounds demonic
more aluminum maiden than iron maiden, super weak
Are you kidding me? No.
I have no intention of listening to this. I got partway through the first track and it's like...yeah, no. I don't need to force myself to listen to something that I don't like. I listened to a new Maggie Rogers song, then the earliest HAIM album available on Tidal. So that was my album today.
Songs sound too much alike
Still doesn't do anything for me.
I hope no more Iron Maiden between 1001 LPs!
I respect what it means to others, but too hard for me. I liked getting to hear it though as I’ve always known the name but never listened to an album.
I was only able to listen to 2 songs, but no worries, this is not my kind of music. Looking forward to my next album.
Admittedly, New Wave British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest is possibly my least favorite genre of all time. To me, it’s fast and loud but not much else. The devil iconography and themes sound like a 13yo goth kid who shopped at Hot Topic and drank red koolaid “blood” because their life is SO dark. But they’re so earnest about it, which is even sillier. I half-expected Spinal Tap to make a cameo, along with a 3ft dwarf threatening to knock down mini-Stonehenge. But, I’m trying to understand where this genre came from. Apparently, mid/late-70s Britain was shitty. Bad recession, high poverty, labor strikes, riots, etc. Young people kind of checked out, and the more nihilist movements were born, like punk and NWOBMH, to escape everyday life. So I guess I understand where the immature rebellion and escapism came from, and I wouldn’t be surprised if another similar movement sprang up today.
Sullivan was not a fan. Made him cry
Not for me
Like listening to a broken microwave talking about it's emotional problems! Just didnt engage or interest me on any level soz.
Not for me.
Metal is gar nicht meins.
OMG this was AWFUL ... just noise throughout.
Head banger. When do I hear good music in the 1001 list?
Not a fan.
Not my style
ok....so just not my "jam" so to speak :)
Not my type of music. Vocals are awful and most of the songs sounded the same? Never was a fan of "heavy metal".....
hate metal
A bit satanic for my taste
Not for me. Disliked it in 1982, dislike it in 2024.
Dull, repetitive and boring - just like everything else Iron Maiden.
Just terrible. (Except for the opening song, which is great comedy from Vikings: The Musical. "Invaders...pillaging! Invaders...looting!" Spinal Tap couldn't do better)
Cool riff dude, you can really scream about Satan.
Too melodramatic for me!
Not my cup of tea
slept thru it.
Not a fan of Iron Maiden. Tried it with an open mind. Not a fan of his voice. Lyrics questionable. Hard pass.
sorry i can’t
They're trying too hard. Not my energy level.
some nice post-colonial lyrics can't save this from being absolute tripe
Sucks. The worst hard-rock/heavy metal ever. Whines.
Pish
As soon as he started singing I couldn’t be fucked with it at all.
Jackson: First track = ass. continues in such fashion. Best: None, maybe the second track Worst: All Overall: 0
Huh. Pre Rush/Megadeth I guess
Yuk
this kind of "metal" sucks there's nothing heavy about it and the lyrics are stupid and not in a good way
If someone put this on and told me it was a parody of 80s Metal, I would believe them.
Heavy metal sucks.
I never really liked this group, I felt that their music was not innovative and that they rode on the coattails of Uria Heap, who were far better and one of the originators of the "hard rock / heavy metal movement"
Honestly, I loathe this album. Some excellent musicianship, but it's so repetitive.
Not very good. Would never really listen to it. The singing is too dramatic and I think the instruments are dull and unexciting
Ummmmm wth
If I were to spoof a heavy metal group it would sound like this and I couldn't possibly top the juvenile album cover. Their sound is so cliched and repetitive, its hard to get any sillier than this.
Got through 1.5 songs
The vocals are a constant annoying problem, hard to get passed these to even start to enjoy the mediocre guitar soloing.
The only song that actually caught my attention was “Children of the Damned”, and only because of the riff at the beginning. Again, this is not a musical genre that speaks to me.
I would normally object to rating without listening, but I don't need to put this on to know it's garbage
j'aime pas
Not really my favorite genre
Hated it.
Not for me. Never was, never has been, and this repeated listen hasn’t changed my mind.
Ugh no
Never gave em a chance. Sorry ATal. Physical Science, 2004
Never liked Iron Maiden, it's just too grim and rowdy
Next!
Oh my....can’t get past all the 666 signs to even listen
blergh!
not bussin
Classic metal, love it
