Reviews (page 8 of 8)
Not my favorite type of music and certainly having MetalWerks already in the mix I am not sure that this band does anything new or cutting edge enough to be included in the list of albums one must experience.
No me gustó. Muy experimental y sin letras.
I really think you have to be into repetitive dance music to even remotely care about this other than it being possibly optioned for Video Game background music.
Finally this ordeal is over. The thing about this album is just 3 seconds from Voodoo people and the rest is repetetive slur
Ouch! This started off excruciatingly monotonous and boring and continued non stop for a painful 78 minutes. I do not like it. But, I can understand its appeal for anyone into the electronic music dance club scene.
Not my cup of tea
A great representative of the electronic genre. 20 seconds of good music stretched out to absurdity, typically 7 minutes per song. An overlong album in general. Perhaps psychosis inducing for somebody like me? It made me feel bad to listen to this for over an hour today. I can see how somebody would like this, but I am NOT that somebody.
It’s a no
Although I have often felt jolted myself, I found no comfort in this music. I do not judge you if you do, though. Or maybe the intent was not to provide comfort, but to remind you over and over again that you were jilted? One way or another, I care not for this genre.
Not sure how this album is distinguishable from any other electronica album.
This is not my jam. Songs are much to similar to each other.
absolutely not.
Lots of repetitive drum beats that went on for far too long.
Cue the Grinch: hate, hate, hate, loathe entirely. What a waste of listening time. 0/5
Ei tällaista kone paskaa voi kuunnella
This was far too much.
lol wow. No thanks. Kinda disappointed there isn't a -1 rating.
Not my preference. Sounds like it should be menu music for some obscure PS1 racing game. I get how this might have been new in the mid 90s for electronic rock/rave music.
Jesus why is there so much Prodigy on this list
"When Liam Howlett arrived at the cutting room for the final stage of the album's production, he realised that all the tracks he had planned would not fit onto a CD." -Wikipedia Never have I been more appreciative of the size limitations of CDs.
This was tough getting all the way through Will I listen to again: 0%
Hard rock. Music is strange, can’t hear the lyrics over the screaming and music.
bad
I took absolutely no time for me to get sick of the glass breaking sound effect. Maybe it took even less time for me to get tired it the percussion. Maybe there’s a “jilted generation” to whom this appeals. But my guess is the guy was (is?) just an incel.
I'm really worried how many more albums like this there are on the list... I'm tired, boss.
This is the first album I genuinely cannot listen to all the way through. This feels like the gateway into modern day EDM and I strongly dislike EDM.
don’t love the breaking glass, screaming, or fast pace… quite stress-inducing, but I suppose these are good for movie soundtracks
Demasiado repetitivo. Aburrido
This would have been the result if Ross from Friends had a band. A bunch of random sounds set to a house beat. “Jilted” is a perfect album title. Couldn’t get past the first couple songs.
not the Prodigy I listened to back in the day - this album was horrid for me - didn't like even 1 song.
Just not a fan of electronica. Soulless & boring.
Otro disco que no pienso escuchar. Ya tuve bastante de joven odiando a esta gente gritona. Lo he escuchado a medias. Es insoportable estando sobrio. Musicalmente es un insulto.
wow I hated this
Worst thing I ever heard
I was not a huge fan of this one to be honest. I really don’t like the electronic style of music, but I do see how it may have been influential and something people hadn’t heard before. I thought it was definitely unique, but definitely not something I would listen to on my own.
When I tell you I dissociated listening to this I mean it… hardest album to get through!
Ohhhhhhh guys…
Nope. Felt like I was trapped playing a terrible arcade game
Started around 8 T1 intro T2 edm Did not finish T3 edm Going to hendells messiah tonight so I’ve been listening to some of that during the day and I just feel ridiculous going away from that to listen to an early edm album. Might not get all the way through this one today.
Electronica, drum and bass
Wtf? I’m being generous in my rating here.
Another electronic group that added sounds that weren't musical instruments which I found interesting. Too many songs with repetitive lyrics, repetitive sounds, and repeating musical lines, I'm just not that into this type of music. The first song, "Break and Enter" with its more than 8 minutes just depressed me. All their songs were entirely too long. Since all the songs sound a lot alike, I can hardly tell when one song ends and the next begins. I started to wonder why this was an album that had to be listened to unless it was to show the worst of electronic music? "Speedway" had me wanting to bang my head just to knock myself unconscious, and if I wanted to listen to car speeding noises, I would go take a drive. I knew I was in trouble when I started adding up the minutes of each song: 105.76. The best song of the album was "One Love" as it was the shortest song of the album. If I could rate this album with zero stars I would but then my vote wouldn't count, so I gave it a one star rating. There wasn't a single song that I liked and although I'm trying to experience a wider range of music this was one album I could have never listened to and been just fine with it.
OH GREAT! MORE ENGLISH ELECTRONIC!
Maybe it's because I was listening to this at 4AM but this is horrible. The weird train whistle and breaking plate sound effects are like someone discovered the shitty sound effects mode on their keyboard. And it went on for 8+ minutes!! And that's only the first real track. The rest of the tracks are similarly long, use unnecessary sound effects and are way too repetitive. How this made the list is beyond me. This might be music I'd choose to torture someone.
1.5
0.5
I'm sure this style appeals to someone, just not me. At least The Fat of the Land had some vocal hooks to break up the monotony, but this is like an hour and a half of getting a tooth drilled at the dentist. I find it super exhausting, it's super dated and it overstays its welcome by a good hour. 0.5 stars.
1.5
Not for me.
0/5 didn’t rly listen just briefly decided i wld not enjoy it and didn’t listen so until i get around to rly listening if i even want to i this is subject to change
Not good. Songs are very repeptitive with little substance. Only good thing to say is the music would work for crumping. 0/10 I couldn't finish the album
Not for me really
i rated the other Prodigy album a 3 but it had some decent, memorable tracks and a really cool picture of a crab on the cover. here on Music for the Jilted Generation we have 78 minutes of forgettable techno and no crab. instead you get (if you bother to go look it up) a dumb inner sleeve painting of a guy flipping off the thought police from the other side of an indiana jones rope bridge
I found this .... crushingly boring.
Shit
Now what on earth is THIS..? Absolutely not
Not for me. Why is this on this list?
Not my vibe at all
Kann in den Container für Elektroschrott!
Not my music at all, struggled to get through the whole thing
idk maybe I'm not jilted enough
Did not like
I hate this shit.
It sounded so edgy in its time. Obnoxious and unbearable now. It's like rap, except it's a single phrase over and over.
Hated this from day one.
Another Prodigy album?!? Another friggin Prodigy album on this finite list?!?! Well, if you like electronic sounds maybe you'll dig this. I got about halfway through and figured I had a pretty good handle on it. Not for me.
Not for me thank you. Was just a waste of time to listen to.
Skipped my way through this (I know that’s not really fair but I just had to) because like I said the other day (on The Chemical Brothers) I really don’t like this kind of music. It’s just irritating to me and the only way I can ever see myself listening to it even a little is for studying wall-of-sound. It makes my heartbeat feel irregular.
Copy-and-paste bloop-bleep music with an aggro "edge". *Might* have been revolutionary at the time, but now sounds like something a 14-year-old with pirated copy of Ableton could crank out in an hour.
1 star as this list doesn't need two Prodigy albums. Pick one m8.
Completely unknown band and rightly so. Too weird for my taste.
Not my bag
Not for me just pointless noise
Really just not an interesting genre for me. Didn’t finish the record.
Not enjoyable
This is definitely not the type of music I enjoy. It’s overly repetitive without any real lyrics or melody. So far the one redeeming quality I’ve heard is some interesting beats but they go on so long that it feels like a hammer on my eardrums. I suppose it’s in this list because of how they blended techno and harder rock riffs.
This was not good.
Nah, fuck this shit.
Ffs people in the '90s would listen to anything with an electronic drum track
I feel like for every Clube Da Esquina by Milton Nascimento I have to sit through five Brit Pop albums and two overlong terribly repetitive electronics dance albums.
Each track. Same electronic riffs. Same beat. Different words. Same bad vibe. Music To Jilt A Generation.
Man, what a pile of techno garbage.
Not my jam
Mercifully, two of the tracks weren't available on Spotify, so I saved 15 minutes of my life
Voldsomt til mas da. Nei takk.
You know how the second Mission Impossible movie has the most ridiculous, absurd 90's score? How that movie is a bore to get through. This is the same thing. DNF Best Song: Speedway Rating: 2/10 Stars: 1/5
I don’t get this at all.
Miserable
Noping the fuck out of this one. It's like Firestarter on streoids for a whole album
This is legit giving me anxiety. I hate it.
I really wanted to like this album because my wife like prodigy, but i just dont. The song not very melodic except Vodoo People. Also doesnt help when the artist says the album is too long and would love to leave 3 songs off...
Not for me.
Well there goes my high 90’s decade rating right down the toilet. Fuck this album. Full disclosure, I didn’t finish. I bailed after 6 tracks (which was still 32 lousy minutes of repetitive nonsense). I didn’t like Prodigy’s weird techno bull shit when they popped up in America in mid 90’s. I still didn’t like it when The Matrix came out and made industrial techno and those dumb long leather duster jackets popular again at the end of the decade either. I’ll bet this genre is a considerably better listen in a crowded warehouse rave at 3 am high as hell on ecstasy, but it’s god awful at 8:00 am behind a desk reviewing insurance claims. There had better be an Iron Maiden album down the road on this list, or I’m calling bull shit! 0 ⭐️🖕🏻🖕🏻
Maybe I’m not jilted enough, but I have a hard time believing anyone actually wants to sit down and listen to this. I can understand it would be awesome on a bunch of ecstasy at a rave, but let’s keep things where they belong.
The one good thing I can say for this album was that it was easy to tune out
ENOUGH
Above all, a waste of a great band name.
Meh
An album full of very repetitive boring songs, that I feel go on for way too long. I felt bored of this album half way through but managed to listen to all of it. Standout track: Voodoo People
I was happy when this ended
I couldn’t tell if these songs were a million years long or just that repetitive. Very much feels like music that may have been in The Matrix or movies of that time period.
I didn’t have the patience to make it more than about 10 mins. The matrix was a cool movie though.
Here's a prophecy about The Prodigy: 30 years after this album was released, I'll rate it as terrible on this list.
Reminds me of the soundtrack to a racing car PlayStation game in the early 2000s
Noooo
I hated this. This is music for the dance clubs in a sci fi video game
Not what I expected, but in a bad way. Electric much more than any kind of metal.
Puke. More techno electronic thump thump crap.
Just no. It could serve a purpose as background music at a gym, or a dance club, but I just don’t get it. It may be great to those that like this genre, but I am certain that I will never intentionally listen to it again. I only listened to maybe half of the first album as I would fast forward through portions of “songs” and generallly it was hard to tell I was doing so as it was picking up right where I left off.
this kind of music makes my head hurt, ok for low level background music i suppose. I was never into the rave scene.
Eletrônica. Chato. Sem graça
I had to bail 5 songs in. I felt annoyed and like I was in a store at the mall that has nothing of interest to me. Even the track with “reverse Star Wars” was annoying.
I’m sorry but no … there is no way I could have listened to this all the way through without skipping. Good soundtrack for a 90s hacker movie though.
Big NO
a big No
I’m not part of the jilted generation so this album does not apply to me (thankfully) 1/5 14/5/24
Tf is this?
Never have I ever: understood The Prodigy. Like Underworld I guess you had to be there. And be on drugs. Good drugs.
Had this nightmare of a record been two minutes longer, I would have needed to call in sick from work due to stress.
no mg
feels like it never ends
I can’t wait for this to end. I didn’t like it in 1994 and I don’t like it now. Listening to it makes me jittery and anxious and I honestly don’t understand how people can listen to it. 1
click click click could i write poetry to this? n
I can't do this one. I tried it several times getting a little further each time, but it's just repetitive and not interesting at all. 1/5
Noise hurting my ears
I can't do it. Got halfway through. This borderline isn't even music, and this DEFINITELY isn't danceable music.
Not my vibe at all, didn’t enjoy any aspect of the album.
There might be some electronica out there that doesn't suck but this wasn't it.
This album made me realize I'm officially at the "this music is just noise" age
Now I can confirm that I am not part of the jilted generation, thanks guys!
Too much electronica for me
If techno-dance-industrial-rock is your thing then this album is for you, otherwise ...
Day49 - maybe at the club late at night this might be cool but i don’t know who could listen to this on a wednesday
Another gd prodigy album? Only listing 1001 albums ever made and TWO of them are prodigy albums? What a joke.
Ok I can just tell this is gonna suck 1
It’s for people in the 90s that did ecstasy, weird graffiti artist or parkour montages.
Repetitive electronic music made for people who are off their face. If your songs are this tedious they should at least be short, what's with all the 7+ min tracks! Not for me at all
some weirdo stuff you would imagine them dancing to in the matrix underground city.... long songs like 6-9 mins long, techno/electric dance type music..... 1 star, not into it
I really thought this was gross. Not my kind of scene, brother
I suppose if I ever want to really annoy my neighbors, or make them worry about my drug use, I know what to blast through the windows.
obnoxious
Made it about halfway through this before I just couldn’t go any farther.
the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was getting two albums by the prodigy put onto this list
Feels like I'm listening to an extended version of the Matrix Soundtrack. I remember when STOMP was huge.
No vocals. Electronic. Not my style at all
I remember when GarageBand first came out. My buddy and I got drunk and made a whole bunch of songs that sounded just like this. Maybe it's better with strobe lights and ecstasy, but I'm not really willing to try it at my age.
Woah, it was hard to endure this long ass sequence of minimalistic noises. I'm sorry but that's not even music for me, might be a pretty lame base for some uninspired song at best
Listening to this I felt like I was part of some stressful retro-futuristic adventure. Not very enjoyable.
If Jez from peep show knuckled down I reckon this is the album he would produce. Make of that what you will. It’s alright, maybe a 1.5 but I wouldn't round it up to a 2. Nothing special to me especially since I never even experienced the 90s!
Sounds like video game music for a PlayStation game. Kinda boring to me. One of these electronic albums that were probably interesting at the time but didn’t age well.
Horrible. I’d rather listen to kollaps.
Electronic music is hard for me. So repetitive.
Not my taste, too much aggressiveness and no good music
Man, I am just not there yet.
mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Interesting to see what electronic music started out as but nah
This is weird and I didn’t enjoy it. Hope it was influential for the genre at the time but goddamn I did not get anything from this lol
Nah 1/5
Too much electronic stuff on this list...
Nope.
The best thing about this album was laughing at it with my husband while we cooked brunch and felt so far removed from the target audience for this “music”.
This is not good. I could stomach "Firestarter," but that's not on this record which you know what that means? We are for sure getting at least one more record from The Prodigy on this list. Hell, maybe we already reviewed that one. Nobody knows. My favorite part was the one "song" that had like a car alarm or police siren just going off in the background for a solid minute plus. Because people just LOVE listening to that when they're high. Lol.
Wow this is just a terrible album. Only two songs of twelve are under 5 minutes and 7 over 6 and a half minutes. All of them too long. My ears were hurting after the first three songs and it never stopped. I don't get how anybody can listen to Techno. I really cannot believe this band has a second album on this list either. Just a really bad album, I will never understand Dimery's affection for electronic based music, there is just way too much of it on the list for the to all be musts.
Bang bang bang boop bip boop bip bang bang bang. Yawn. Rating: 1/5 Playlist track: No Good (Start the Dance) Date listened: 02/09/22
Not my jam.
Not my jam
Not hugely listenable.
That drum and bass and those vocal are annoying as hell.
A pretty gritty electronic album. I found some of the songs not that bad but overall it still get pretty boring like most electronic albums. 2.6/10
So now that raves are done, shouldn’t we be one with such as this? The songs get to a place but no further, though these sound (very) slightly less dated that others in The P’s dreadful oeuvre. At best, this is a soundtrack for a movie I’m glad not to be watching or a video game I don’t want to play.
More EDM. So boring. Why would anybody buy a whole album.
No idea behind this. Simply unnecessary.
WIth no rave drugs on hand, this sounds like music for a bad video game. Or a dodgy party you realize, upon arrival, you should have skipped. Has not aged well so far and unlikely to improve -- sounds like random noise now that audio and synth tech has moved on and the referents are too long in the past. Don't get the critical hype but follow what Christgau said -- "cheap music" -- though maybe a tattoo you wish you'd never gotten is better analogy. We all have a right to be ashamed of our youthful indiscretions; one hopes fans of this act are appropriately so.
Electronic, bad
no me parece!
I'm not really sure why this particular Prodigy album is on the list. They've had more popular albums (with vocals). This one is generic 90's rave music.
trashy techno
Not a fan of prodigy
Boring, listening made me feel completely empty. Lacking anything interesting, and why in the world is this so long? The ideas it has are enough for 20 mimutes.
I'm sure that in the right setting, that this album would work: just not sure what that setting would be. This was like if Enigma and Mannheim Steamroller were dropped into a garbage disposal.
It's safe to say that I disliked this album and I have nothing else to say about it. 1/5 stars.
hate it cant stand it
Muziek voor als ge aan de bollen zit. één ster weggehaald voor elk nummer dat ik uit irritatie heb overgeslagen. We zijn niet ver geraakt voor we aan 1 zaten.
Feels like Chemical Brothers. Not that interesting to me
Awful, grating, didn't even get past the first song
Balanced as all things should be
Thanks, I hate it.
Uh yeah nope
old weird metal techno album that hasnt aged well
1 song in and I hate this. Can't listen
Acid house pioneer Prodigy. Makes me feel like I'm in a 90s rave
