I never got into the White Stripes but if I did, I know I would really enjoy them. 3.5
Repeat listen
A perfectly ok album, some classic songs but others were just ok, not a chore to get through and didn’t find myself constantly skipping songs, but won’t actively go seeking out this album
Jack White is kind of a twat and certainly isn’t the genius he thinks he is. I really liked “In the Cold, Cold Night” and the more repetitive hypnotic songs were pretty good, as were the punky ones.
Good album, top tunes, great memories
Quite good.
Elephant is The White Stripes’ fourth album, and it pretty much carries one of the most iconic rock songs ever made with “Seven Nation Army”. this song has one of the most famous and memorable guitar riffs in history by the great Jack White. idk what the fuck he was smoking in the studio but he had to have been in some magical zone or something coming up with that riff and everything that came after in their career had to live in its shadow unfortunately 😭✌🏻. the thing is with this album, once you get past that unbelievable opener… the rest of the album kind of feels like Seven Nation Army and friends 😅. that’s not inherently a diss however. there are some genuinely great tracks here like “Black Math,” “Ball and Biscuit,” and “The Hardest Button to Button” all go hard in their own way. they’re of course not on the same level as the big hit, but that’s not really a fair comparison because almost nothing is on here and that’s alright. there are also a handful of solid songs like “I Just Don’t Know What to Do With Myself,” “The Air Near My Fingers,” “Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine,” and the lovely “In the Cold, Cold Night,” which is the rare track with Meg White on lead vocals. she actually does a really good job, and it makes me wish she had been given more moments like that. even without more lead vocal time, her drumming across the album is tight and gives the record its signature raw feel so hey i won’t complain lol. but once you get past those highlights… the quality dips. the album is all over the place. a ballad here and there are pretty dull, the kind of songs that sound like anyone could have written them. “You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket” especially feels lifeless compared to the punchy tracks before it. and then there’s the outro, “It’s True That We Love One Another,” which took such a random country turn that i genuinely had to check if the album skipped to another project or something but no 🤣. unfortunately i just couldn’t bare it so i couldn’t even finish it. it completely breaks the mood the album spent under an hour building. overall yeah, Elephant has some absolute classics, some strong deep cuts, and then a bunch of tracks that don’t really hold up to the rest of the tracklist. it’s still a decent enough album with great moments, but it’s definitely uneven. 3 and a half ⭐️.
Zupełnie słuchalne, nie mniej i nie więcej
I felt ambivalent when this album showed up this morning on the generator. I'm not much of a fan of The White Stripes or of Jack White's solo records. I kinda think I should be, but the music just leaves me cold. I recognize the talent, and I did like the lo-fi nature of this album. After listening to it today, I still feel very ambivalent. There were a couple of songs I liked, but mostly it was exactly what I expected. It's a shame, as I was hoping maybe I'd enjoy it more than I did.
This is a medium like for me. It’s good but not fantastic.
Voice irritates me. Guitar can be excellent. I remember feeling left out of the hype--Jack didn't quite deserve it. When he shuts up and I can hear the guitar, I'm happy. When he backs off the screechy, it works (like You've Got Her In Your Pocket). Or mostly guitar (like Ball and Biscuit).
While this was my favorite of the three we’ve listened to, my sentiment has not changed. More like a 3.5, but docking it because I just wasn’t looking forward to another White Stripes album. Viva La Raconteurs!
Elephant by The White Stripes is a raw, bluesy garage rock album that’s often hailed as a modern classic—but it doesn’t click for everyone. While it’s packed with gritty riffs and vintage swagger, it can feel more style than substance if you’re not into the lo-fi aesthetic. And Seven Nation Army, once an anthem, now feels overplayed to the point of exhaustion. If you were expecting something more emotionally resonant or sonically fresh, this might leave you cold.
Kinda the same as most of Jack White's stuff except it's got one of the most iconic songs of all-time.
Fun listen, not really my fave genre, maybe if listen again would appreciate more
This is more what I expected from the white stripes compared to the earlier album. Too distorted for my tastes and also not a huge fan of that “the singer sounds far away” effect. The change of pace songs were nice though
I dig it. Sounds like a skilled garage band. Some songs really rip! Also reminds me of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. How can that be bad?
I like Jack White. I think his different projects all have something worth listening too, and I feel like he's a rockstar. However, this album just doesn't do it for me. Very garage band esque rooted in blues, but overall repetitive with some guitar solos that I feel like I could play (not a compliment). For this being known as one of the best albums of the 00's, I don't think it lives up to that hype. A lot of 12 bar blues with guitar licks in between. For a 2 man group, this is pretty great. They capture great sound from that aspect. Meg's drum work is terrific. The lyrics just felt scatterbrained and random. I get that's the point, but the point isn't that great. I do love the long song titles though. That needs to make a comeback.
Expected more. Wasn't bad by any means, but it seems like it used a lot of repeated sounds and concepts.
Det går nästan inte att lyssna nyktert på Seven nation army efter alla möjliga och omöjliga sammanhang som det riffet har brölas. Man får erkänna att de lyckats få till en modern klassiker där. Men roligare att lyssna på flera andra låtar, som There’s no home for you here, I want to be the boy… och In the cold cold night.
Little acorn är ingen höjdare. Hypnotize hade också kunnat strukits
was ok
I like The White Stripes. I like Jack White … he’s a fantastic live performer who I’ve seen many times. There are some top tunes on this album (which I own) but I hardly ever listen to it. I don’t know why.
Nothing against The white Stripes, I think they were a good band and they certainly helped putting garage rock at the highest levels of mainstream culture, buy boy do I get bored fast when I'm listening to them.
I never really got the whole Jack White thing. Anyway...
C’est sympa c’est sur, mais j’avoue que je comprends pourquoi la première est 10 fois plus écouté que les suivantes
Loved sna rest were okish, great guitars little much for me
I've never been quite able to enjoy the White Stripes. That whiny voiced, thin sounding garage thrash. It's all fine, there's some good tunes but I'm just not very taken by it.
A little underwhelming for me. Nothing stood out TOO much besides Seven Nation Army. Surprising I like Jack White's solo stuff more than this.
Seven Nation Army is a bop. I appreciate the punky vibes, and for the early 2000s I think this album has a good rock sound. Liked it more on the second listen, but it was too much of a good thing and I got annoyed as the album kept going listening to the same.
Seven Nation Army still hits, but was bored by the rest of the album. Felt repetitive.
This was one of the first indie rock albums I got into as a kid. Seven Nation Army was a jam, but now it feels tired. The later songs on the album were annoying. Overall, 3 stars for nostalgia, otherwise would likely be a 2.
Alright. Couple of standout tracks and definitely a choice
my style but i don’t remember wanting to listen to it
Yeuh
Y’a des high et des lows. Les chansons plus mellow comme « you’ve got her in your pocket » font plaisir.
Manque un peu de variété sonore à mon goût mais c'est bon.
Some good and catchy some were hard to keep playing due to chaotic beats. Heard this album before and some tracks are still skippable for me
It's got some moments for me, but not the whole way through. Will I listen to again: 55%
SNA a certified banger, one of the most important songs of the last 25 years in terms of...everything? 2B plays on Spo***y kinda speaks for itself. Meg White is a shitty drummer, not a hot take, but it works when it works. That said, I can play most of her drums and I have no ability to do separate rhythms with multiple appendages. Ball and Biscuit rips. Weird that I like a song that was in The Social Network, huh? Album kinda meh other than the big songs. Probably a "not my thing" album. Come for the hits and then peace out.
O H
incredible start, first songs are great after that the rest of the songs seemed a bit like a blur
Catchy. I'm not sure if it's to my taste though.
I like Jack White. I think he's a cool guy. I think he supremely talented. I think he's great for the music industry. I don't begrudge him his success at all. I'd have a beer with him. I just don't connect with is music.
I think I like the idea of the White Stripes more than I actually like the music of the White Stripes. I mean it’s fine, I like the higher energy songs more than most of the others & I wish Meg sang more. Their albums just aren’t something that I would choose to put on if I’m playing a record. Standard 3 stars album for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Jack White is an incredible guitarist and I love Meg White on drums but I think this album is a bit overrated
Off the bat, realizing I still have some negative emotion towards seven nation army and the amount of times we played it in pep band... so much 6 to 1. Quite grungy, there was a point in my life that I would have had this on repeat. As it stands now, I wouldn't be mad if someone queued songs but I would not be the person doing the queuing. I did appreciate the more unique/bluesy instrumentation. The last song was so cute and unexpected, very campy.
good album. nice rhythm
3/5
Another white stripes album and again I don’t really get the appeal
I'm being generous here
The singles on this absolutely slap and the rest just exists
I like the songs everyone likes and I'm indifferent to the rest.
7/10
An album i know from the singles but have nnever listeneded to all the way through, i like it but dont love it. Feels like its juts missing something, an extra bit of energy or rawness. I think it's the drums to be honest, still a god album. Meg WHite has an awful voice Ball and Biscuit is a highlight The hardest button to button is good too I feel like i should like this album more than i do
Not my fave White Stripes album but still very good!
Good but not great.
Nogle sange er gode, nogle er bare larm, men man kommer ikke udenom, at Jack White er musikalsk.
I really like Seven Nation Army, and several other songs on the album actually positively surprised me. However, none of the other songs will make it on to my playlists.
Greater than the sum of its parts (although not by loads). Listen to any individual part on this album - vocals, drums, guitar - and it's just not very good. They're far from virtuoso musicians. But on some tracks everything comes together to make something pretty cool-sounding. There's definitely a certain something to their sound on this album, and Seven Nation Army is a good song (if criminally overplayed). They're cool, and they have a unique sound and a very distinctive look. Their visual branding is their strongest suit, come to think of it, and perhaps obscures the basicness of the music, but still. It's not bad. I wanted to hate it, because I find them annoying and felt at the time that their massive fame and wealth were mostly unearned. But it's not bad overall.
First impression pre listen: I'm not sure how to feel about this one. I've not really heard much from this band that excited me much. This era of rock music always struck me as a bit of a dud. Their biggest hit being forever ruined by any sort of event with a large crowd doesn't help either. Could be good still, but I'll be honest and way I'm not expecting much. Individual track notes: Seven Nation Army Overplayed and ruined by annoying crowds. Especially at unrelated artist's concerts and sporting events. I mean it's an iconic song for its catchiness and memorability, but I feel justified in being sick to death of it. The "what you think is a bassline is actually a downtuned guitar played through a bass amp" fun fact has become such a circlejerk that it's almost as oversaturated as the song itself. I can't hate it though, it's a good song I guess. Fine. 3/5 Black Math Got a certain rawness to it that I enjoy. I like the sort of careless energy. The guitar is fuzzy and the drums quick and explosive. Nothing too special, but a solid listen. Decent. 3.5/5 There's No Home For You Here Hate the production on the vocals. The more exprimental parts don't work for me, sounds really unpleasant. I like the performances though, he's got a lot of charm. Average. 2.5/5 Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself I like the loud guitars and the crashing drums. Great buildup to the chorus. Satisfying ending. Decent. 3.5/5 In The Cold, Cold Night I like the change to female vocals. The dark and claustrophobic instrumental is pretty cool. The lyrics have a folky traditional vibe to them. Fine. 3/5 I Want To Be The Boy Got some decent buildup and some interesting instrumental variety. The lyrics have some kinda cool imagery. Fine. 3/5 You've Got Her In Your Pocket Don't really like it. The lyrics are a bit weird, and I find his voice here a bit grating. The acoustic guitar is nice for variety's sake. Mostly I just don't find it that interesting. Dislike. 2/5 Ball And Biscuit Decent bit of bluesy buildup. Has this speak-sung sort of intonation which has a bit of sleaze to it. Feels very retro. Great guitar. Loses a bit of steam and verges on being boring. Fine. 3/5 The Hardest Button to Button The chorus is kinda fun. Got very little out of the rest of the song. Average. 2.5/5 Little Acorns The spoken word is really unique, and the story here is kinda cute. Continues in a raw garagey vein. Building on the squirrel imagery is really fun. Decent. 3.5/5 The Air Near My Fingers Decently likeable, easy to follow along with rock. Neatly organized with a fun verse structure. I like the little piano crashes. Decent. 3.5/5 Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine Energetic garage rock with a hectic and wild vocal performance. Fine. 3/5 Well It's True That We Love One Another Kinda sweet I suppose. Has an old school vibe. Feels playful and unserious. A decent way to end the album. Decent. 3.5/5 Final review: Energetic garage rock revival with a hint of theatricality. It's mostly a fairly entertaining album, fair credit to Jack White for his charismatic vocal performance and ever present awesome guitar playing. While I can't really find much to say about most of the album, I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it. It's mostly what you'd expect, that being a large and energetic sound with memorable guitars and crashing drums. And while there is some instrumental variety with some piano and the occasional acoustic guitar it doesn't stray too far from the expected sound. 3/5
bumm bum bUm bum bum bUm bummmmm
Solid album. Songs ranged from really good to forgettable but overall it was a fun experience
A solid WS album. But not my favorite I would say. That last song made me laugh.
After listening to Get Behind Me Satan, I was afraid of giving White Stripes another try. Fortunately this one is a much better album (and I honestly don’t understand why we needed Get Behind Me on this list) – more heart, more energy, more heavy (and cool) guitars... I still have zero interest in their lyrics, and I still find the singer’s voice vaguely annoying... but at least this time the music is good. Seven Nation Army is a superb track, I had no idea it was an original White Stripes creation. I’m still not a big fan of duo formations, but I must admit they really made it work in this album. I’m adding Elephant to my music collection.
Well, an entertainment. Good, but nothing much. Of course, seven nation army is great.
Fine. They improved though.
They'd be better if they had a bass player
Never been a Jack White or White Stripes fan, still am not after listening to this album. The whole early 2000’s garage/indie rock era was never for me (except Franz Ferdinand after hearing it in this list).
La furia de la batería es inigualable. Sigo sin hacerme a las voces distorsionadas, pero es un disco sólido con un sonido muy particular. 6/10
Classic indie Singles slap
It's iconic. That is it. Just okay. You've Got Her in Your Pocket and Black Math are the good ones.
One hit wonder. Album klinkt niet slecht, maar ben nu al weer kwijt wat er aan nummers afgespeeld is. 1 cover van Dusty Springfield was wel erg lekker om te horen.
Seven nation army 🔥
With only knowing one song from this album before listening to the whole thing, that’s only what I had to base it off of. It was pretty alright, not my favorite. Some songs seemed a little repetitive but maybe that’s just me.
Tror fan det är tredje plattan med dem och det här är väl den enda som platsar på listan.
alright indie music. 3.5
Listened to deluxe ver. Live recordings are awesome. Reg album boring and annoying.
way more enjoyable than other white stripes album i heard on here. def feels a bit overrated tho
After the first one I got, was stoked for some more White Stripes. This one was a bit more of a roller coaster than the other one, that one was more consistently decent all the way through. This one starts with the awesome Seven Nation Army, the only one I've heard before. That killer guitar riff, love it. In The Cold Cold Night is amazing, nice chill loungy music, and I like Meg White's voice. The Air Near My Fingers had some good music. The rest of the songs are some good some bad. And the last track, It's True That We Love One Another, so much fun! Love it, with Jack White, Meg, and Holly Golightly bouncing back and forth. Great ending. Was hard to pick between this one and first one for the best track. At the end of the day, gotta give the nod to Seven Nation Army, with the reach it has. Best song: Seven Nation Army
Excellent opening. Average the rest. Another good hit, but not good enough to uplift the whole album. 3 but barely
Pretty good High 3/5.
First is better but this is still decent.
Some great, some forgettable. Not as good as I thought it would be.
I do not get the White Stripes and I hate the first song, so the record starts at a low... Overall the songwriting is cool, but also somewhat boring... It is a superb sounding record though, so +1 for the sound and -1 for SNA... Overall, it's Ok, I guess 🤷♂️
Скромное обаяние нулевых, старое вино в новых мехах. Некоторый минимализм аранжировок, правда, иногда не нравится.
Seven nations army good, shocker Black math kinda good too middle of the album is a bit more of a dud Solid generally but hit and miss 3.5/5
3.5
Favorites: Black Math, There's No Home For You Here, Hypnotize, The Air Near My Fingers
classic bop to start it off and solid otherwise
Seven Nation Army is in the album, so all of the other songs seem a bit meh compared to it, but the overall feeling of the album is pretty decent. Nothing too exciting, but there are some moments when the songs sound pretty good.
First off, Meg White is a dogshit drummer. people tie themselves in knots trying to explain why "ackshully" she's some sort of savant, but she's the most rudimentary, basic, first week, boring-ass "professional" drummer the world has ever seen. It's shocking. Secondly, why in the unholy hell does this project need THREE White Stripes albums? Jack White is, it turns out, a terrific guitarist. But there is nothing in any of these albums that is groundbreaking, or overwhelmingly influential. So why? Why three? So on to the actual album. It's fine. Like, totally fine. I *almost* gave it 2 stars because I'm so fucking annoyed that I have to listen to another White Stripes album when, apparently, there's not a single Deftones record on the list. But that wouldn't be fair, because this is the poster child for a completely banal, milquetoast, bland-ass blues-rock album. probably 2.5 stars, but I'm so frustrated I'm willing to give it 3 stars to mitigate my bias - but I'll tell you one more time, this project DOES NOT need three White Stripes albums.
Very good
Pre-listening thoughts: hmmm im really curious about this one to be real. Ive only heard two songs by the White Stripes (and I’ll let you guess what those are). Post/during listening thoughts: well this was certainly Seven Nation Army and then some other songs! Listen it wasn’t bad at all. But to me, the White Stripes are a band like Greta Van Fleet that classic rock fans attach themselves to to justify that they don’t ONLY like old music. But they refuse to branch out beyond bands/genres like this. Like this band (and GVF) is fine whatever but imo there’s so much better modern music (more specifically, better modern rock) out there and I don’t think this deserved to make the list. It feels like Franz Ferdinand did what this album tried to do way better a year later. Anyways it’s a 5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Seven Nation Army Least fav tracks: In the Cold Cold Night
Wow! I'm not sure what should I say about this album. I really like it, tbh I didn't expect nothing, but it's so good. I loved "Hypnotize" and "In The Cold, Cold Night".
Jack White sure does love playing blues music it seems.
Buen Album Rockero de los 00
Some weird songs and some real solid ones. I liked little cream soda on disc 2, speaking of weird.
Good album. Not my go-to but would listen again.
Indie rock, quite bluesy. Not much for me otherwise Best track (I hate Seven Nation Army) - Ball and Biscuit? Hypnotize 3 stars
‘Seven Nation Army’ I mean, of course, but overall I find the Stripes to get samey fast. Stellar guitar squonk, solid drumming, good vocal work, but I won’t go back often.
Listened to this a little when it was released- sounds very much like early 2000s. Always like it when it starts and then it slowly fades into the background.
enjoyed it, not something ill go back to too often besides seven nation army
alright
Did not leave much of an impression
I’m finding I like Jack white and the white stripes more in theory than in practice. Still enjoyed the album but found my mind wandering during some of the lesser known songs or whenever he plays.
Garage rock esque
Seven Nation Army is a great lead. It's True That We Love One Another is a horrible finish. It really reminds you about how Jack and Meg White intentionally gaslit fans into thinking they were brother and sister when they were actually husband and wife.
a ver esta bien entiendo el concepto y entiendo su fama pero no me ha sorprendido del todo 6/10
Jack White has been an acquired taste for me. When The White Stripes first started releasing music I just thought they were weird. I’ve really enjoyed the stuff he did with The Raconteurs and his more recent solo work. Going back and listening to this, where the only song I had ever heard is “Seven Nation Army, I can see that I should have had some more appreciation for him from the beginning. A solid record.
I dig this album. I avoided it for a very very long time. The hype around these two was nauseating at the time. Did it live up to the hype? Not for me. Was it good? Definitely. I appreciate the raw analogue vibe. I extra appreciate the kind of primitive/minimalist drumming of Meg White. Pound pound pound through the album. Most evident on Seven Nation Army obviously. The whole package comes across as sloppy (in a good way), organic, and sincere. This album also stood apart from the surge of "Indie" stuff that was coming out at that time (bit of a golden time for that genre IMO), revisioning more 70's era blues based classic rock and breathing some fresh life into that tired spectre, having exhausted itself in the the peak of the grunge era a decade before. This will never be a regular play for me, but I am always entertained when it comes on.
Great album that I have heard several times. Good vocals and beats. Nice variety of music. It's not something that I would seek out but a good listen if the mood hits.
better than white blood cells! still not my fav
Du rock NRV, dommage qu’on ai fait le tour de ce qui est proposé au milieu de l’album
I love the White Stripes, this one definitely made its mark. It deserves accolades for "Seven Nation Army" alone. What a song, what a legacy it has, you can't go anywhere without hearing it 20+ yrs later. I've heard great covers of it too. The glue tracks like "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself", "I Want To Be The Boy..." & "The Hardest Button To Button" hold the album up. Fan faves like "Black Math", "Ball & Biscuit", "It's True That We Love One Another" & and "There's No Home For You Here" give it the White Stripes flavor blast. This album had two of their biggest and most played songs but I think the older stuff is likely more influential. Not sure I'd include this in my T1001 but it has merit and a case could be made.
Definitely some great tracks here but some song were just too noisy for me.
I'm not really sure about this one. Seven Nation Army is the only song I know (obviously), and there are some cool hooks on here, but what is up with It's True That We Love One Another? Odd lyrical choices there. Favourite tracks: There's No Home For You Here, Ball and Biscuit, Hypnotize.
This isn't the strongest album of theirs. They are trying out a few things here, some of which work and some of which do not.
Pretty solid
3.5 - Cool album
The Hardest Button to Button is a straight up jam!
The middle was pretty solid. I was a little scared because seven nation army is way too mainstream for me but some like I just don’t know what to do with myself and in the cold cold night were more my speed. I got bob dylan and some other inspirations from this. Solid album I can respect it.
3.5/5
Didn’t do as much for me as the earlier albums.
It's hard to write 100s of reviews and know what to say so brain dump it is. I liked this but not enough to give it a 4. The distortions and basslines are cool. Shame they had to lie about their relationship. Rating: 3
Really great band. Energetic, upbeat, rocking music. Such unique harmonies and vibes from them and this album is no different. It's even got that one song they play at every sports stadium across the world!
No thoughts, but I enjoyed it enough!
I’m gonna need to retry this one later in life it’s not hitting rn
Wel oke
If you arrange the songs (excluding the first two) in reverse alphabetical order by title, and then arrange the third last letter from the fifth word of the second verse of each song in that order, it spells "ELVIS IS ALIVE"
7 nations army of course but nothing else jumped out at me.
Didn't really have time to do this justice, enjoyed what I heard although sound maybe a bit samey.
I love when this project makes me listen to albums containing songs I already liked. Ball and Biscuit is a great track, but I hadn’t really heard the rest of it. Stripped back and kind of weird!
the guitar solos were FANTASTIC
Not my favorite of theirs, but love The White Stripes.
Im conflicted about this one because it has an all time opening song and start in general but I found myself not enjoying the back half of the album which is probably why I hadn’t ever explored more than the hits with the Stripes. I’m feeling a strong 6 to a light 7. Favorite Song: Seven Nation Army
⭐️⭐️⭐️
A bit mid tbh. Most of the songs were good but apart from Seven Nation Army none particularly stood out. Still not a bad album though.
Some banging trucks on here. Very enjoyable
After a decade of disliking/being ambivalent toward the White Stripes, I was not excited when this record came up. One Jack White album is generally too many in my eyes. I was not expecting to enjoy this album, but for whatever reason, most of the things I find offensively annoying about Jack/the White Stripes, are mostly absent here. Of course there's the anthemic "Seven Nation Army" which has taken on a life of its own since its release. This is absolutely deserved; it is a jam. Likewise, the second single from this record "The Hardest Button to Button", transcends the rest of the album and is a great rock song. The rest of the album features Jack's quiety/loud/quiet garage rock songs ("Little Acorns"), a few sparsely accompanied vocal tracks ("In the Cold, Cold Night" and "You've Got Her in Your Pocket"). "Ball and Biscuit", while not a bad song on its own, sounds like patient zero for the Black Keys/big truck commercial songs that would pollute the 2010's music landscape. All in all, a triumph. Since it was generated, I've made the conscious choice to throw it on 6 times. I'll have to give the White Stripes another chance.
second half was good af and reeled me in. not the biggest rock fan but I'd say this was a good intro album to get into it
One super iconic song followed by filler, filler, filler with a couple of gems here and there. And by gems, I mean I can recall how the song goes more than 5 minutes after I finish listening to it. All in all, perfectly cromulent rock music but nothing crazy. It will make you tap your feet and listen intermittently, but I think the only reason that Seven Nation Army is such a standout song is how often I was beat over the head with it growing up. Highlights - Seven Nation Army, You've Got Her In Your Pocket, The Air Near My Fingers
Try as I might, I just can’t get into the White Stripes.
I mean… classic early 2000s rock punk music.
My perception of "Seven Nation Army" has been absolutely ruined by over playing on mainstream media. If you removed it this would be an 8/10. The rest of the album is pretty gas though. "Black Math", "Ball and Biscuit" & "Girl, You have no Faith in Medicine" are great songs. The acoustic songs are kind of annoying though 7/10 Favourite: Ball and Biscuit Least Favourite: Seven Nation Army
Hey, it's that song from high-school sports! Put this album on to exercise, or if you otherwise need to feel like a cool-guy.
It's ok they're not really my thing but I liked a few songs
Pretty good, I liked it more than expected
Can't quite put my finger on why but I just don't care for Jack White all that much. This album's alright but I didn't find it particularly engaging ("Seven Nation Army" excepted).
Classic White Stripes. They are a pretty reliable band.
No está mal, pero escuchar sus álbumes completos en esta lista me ha hecho descubrir que son medio aburridos.
Seven Nation Army is one of those songs I haven’t actually heard in ages, but have heard various forms of the chant for too long. Forget how much of a banger it is. Simpsons: Guest Stars
Leuke nummertjes met redelijk wat afwisseling, verder redelijk poppish en verdwijnt nogal op de achtergrond, ben misschien ook wat royaal met mn ratings, dus 6.8/10
Thanks to seven nation army , otherwise it was 2 stars …
More fun to listen to than ‘Get Behind Me Satan’, their other album we’ve been previously exposed to. Surprisingly, the rhythmic shortcomings don’t drag it down as much here. When this album goes garage, it really goes garage — the riffs stick with you way more, and there’s just enough bluesy nuance to make the whole thing an acceptable ride. Still their sound is a bit tiring at the end.
Daa da da da da da daa Daa da da da da da da da da His voice can sound a little grating after a while I like Black Math and Ball and Biscuit the best i think.
Don't need to ever hear Seven Nation Army ever again but thankfully it's at the start and out of the way. Bit long but doesn't drag
It felt very average, but at least it leant on the side of music that I enjoy.
First time listening. Only knew seven nation army. Just ok
Iconic and sounds so much more mature than Get Behind Me Satan. Much more blues rock than just blues. Wouldn’t say it’s a no skip album for me but enjoyed the listen.
decent
"Seven Nation Army" is the clear standout, but the rest of the album is solid.
It's fine but nothing stuck out to me.
This wasn’t too bad. I went in with high expectations and I didn’t feel they were all met. Seven Nation Army is a banger and a 5 star song but the rest of the album just didn’t really hit for me. In The Cold, Cold Night was a wonderful surprise and it had me wishing Meg sang on more songs cause her voice is beautiful. Overall a solid rock album but not as good as I thought it’d be.
3,5

I liked it better before. Now not so much.
Semi-interesting/unique e-guitar heavy alt rock band. Many sounds sound similar, but has the one famous “seven nation army” so it evens out.
-seven nation army my beloved. wow nothing will beat the impact that song had on my childhood -the rest of the album is decent… honestly I think I preferred White Blood Cells actually but it had some very cool numbers. I liked the intra-rock genre mixing -Favorites are Seven Nation Army, In The Cold, Cold Night, and Ball and Biscuit
Nothing but harsh noise. Sorry not me.
Solid, though a somewhat weak end.
Great rock album, solid heavy songs and slow ones too. A mix for any day.
In the cuckold night, the White Stripes Elephant has moments, but it also fundamentally invented modern hipster-dumb. The Record has its moments, and I suppose it was an interesting throwback to Detroit garage rock days, but I don't know why I would listen to this rather than The Stooges ' self-titled record from 1969, where they did it better and originally, with a full band.
De två låtarna jag hört innan är nog de enda som jag riktigt tycker om, men annars är det ett helt okej album.
Tight and cute
I feel about this album much the same as the previous I listened to: there is nothing that I hate, but there is also nothing that particularly stands out to me. I definitely liked the more slow, stripped down songs the back. A nice listen, but probably not something I’ll return to soon. Favourite tracks: I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself, In The Cold Cold Night
I get that the White Stripes were huge in bringing this style of garage rock back to the forefront so I get why it's on the list, but it doesn't feel that special to me. I didn't grow up with the White Stripes and they didn't get me into rock so it sounds like quite standard garage rock to me. Black Math sounds a lot like Wolfmother, though that's largely due to Jack White's voice, which is alright but not amazing. Other parts also sound quite like Death From Above 1979 so it doesn't feel that fresh to me I'm pretty tired of Seven Nation Army, never even particularly liked it that much. Ball and Biscuit is just blues mediocrity, it lacks much restraint and slows the albums pacing right down. Well It's True That We Love Each Other was kind of annoying too As a positive, the guitar tones are pretty excellent. The heavier parts (like Little Acorns) sound like the kind of thing you find in stoner/doom metal which I'm a big fan of. The production overall is pretty good, it catches that dirty sound that fits garage rock very well I feel like I'm being too harsh, I would say I like this album more than I don't. I think I like the presentation but I'm just not too crazy about the writing 3.5 Highlights: The Hardest Button to Button, Little Acorns
Pretty solid, a track or two I'll come back to. Not really a big punk fan, but impressive nonetheless.
the white stripes are fine. they're FINE. this album is doing a good job of what it's trying to do, but what it's trying to do is just fine to me. very cohesive vision and execution but extremely a three for me.
over the three-plus decades of my life, i've had such a love/hate relationship with this band (though jack white more broadly is not interesting to me, sorry dude). this is the white stripes doing white stripes stuff, so if you're into that, you'll love this album. the album is of course buoyed by the massive tune that is seven nation army, but the rest here ranges from dull to fine. the hardest button to button is another shining beacon in the otherwise uninteresting sea of dullness, and little acorns is unique enough to be worth mentioning. the rest? meh. favorites: seven nation army, the hardest button to button, little acorns
Fun I enjoyed took me back
This is such a heavy hitting album. From the seven nation army opening, things just keep going. That also means no surprises, and it's a very long album. The standout tracks are truly great, but there's a lot of filler.
3.5
Each track was similar but decent
Some really good songs especially Seven Nation Army and The Hardest Button to Button but there were also a couple of songs I didn't enjoy as much.
Listened
Kolme kappaletta, joita haluaa kuunnella useammin. Kaksi vai kolme tähteä? Mennään kolmella, koska muut suositellut ovat olleet niin ei-itseä-varten.

Enjoyable ride
This is pretty good rock. I put it on during a workout. It wasn't super memorable outside of seven nation army. There were also some weird moments that I don't think landed amazing but it was fine. Strong 3
I’ve never been a huge fan of the white stripes, mostly because every song they write sounds the same. I get that the super stripped down sound is intentional but it’s not for me. It’s fun for 15 minutes but then I’m pretty much done. It’s not bad I just don’t get why people go nuts over this. Maybe it was because it was a nice change of pace from the sea of garbage being made in the early 2000s.
Some fine moments.
Mejor de lo que esperaba, escuchar otra vez
A solid set of bluesy bangers. A 2000s garage rock classic full of songs that saunter and stomp hard. Jack and Meg White are such a powerhouse of writing combinations of bangers and soft crooners, and Elephant shows a level of interesting elements, while being just a simple set of 14 songs.
vemos
Fav: I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself Least Fav: Little Acorns Was hoping I’d enjoy it more, but unfortunately the songs I’d heard beforehand weren’t indicative of the quality of the overall album
Simplistic and fun at parties. I remember very well the music video with the drum kits and guitar amps lining up through the streets.
I bought this album after it came out - never worked out whether it was pretentious or good.
Nice postpunk album, it had its moments
# 397 : They've done a pretty decent job, good album, aside from the obvious Seven Nation Army it didn’t really grab me. Solid but not really a standout, not 5 star material. Favourite track : Seven Nation Army
My favorite song is “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself”. Every OSU kickoff they play “Seven Nation Army” so I have a particular soft spot for that song. It’s a solid album I don’t have much to about it
All time song
Raw, clean sounding. I like that, I think it had to do with the recording method, interesting.
Any musical “revival” is likely to make me go, ehhh. But a much worse band could have helmed this particular revival (and some tried). Credit due for committing to an aesthetic, cultivating some mystique, and pretending to be siblings well past the point of credulity.
Pretty good, as far as White Stripes albums go.
I don't hold White or his Stripes in the same reverence as much of my generation; for all its tusks, this record is rather toothless.
most songs are good but they lack something
Pretty good. Mixed about the whole thing, but there's definitely a lot to like here.
Album was okay. The lead single was my favorite one on the album and honestly a lot of the songs sounded too similar for my taste.
Ugh.. another White Stripes album. I like the guitars fine, but my dislikes would be the vocals and drums. That hasn't changed since the last couple of times we listened to Jack White Stripes. This gets a 3. Should be a 2 for fucking up my Spotify algorithm.
Someone needs to make a Jack Black and Jack White song happen.
Crude, irreverent and with a sound that mostly sounds 30 years old. Quite interesting. 7/10
I like that there's some parts on Ball & Biscuit that go for the weird disorienting rumbly thing of a Lightnin Hopkins song. There are a bunch of songs on here I dislike. music: hated. (⌐■_■)
Fine album. Some interesting songs. Simple. I like the playfulness/ self-awareness.
Started off super strong, and throughout reminded me of Scott Pilgrim's iconic songs. But mostly underwhelmed on the back half unfortch.
Some nice guitar riffs. Listened in the car so wasn't giving it full attention.
A couple good tracks, just not my jam.
Unfortunately the opening track makes the others look worse by comparison. Found it less engaging than Get Behind Me Satan
Такое се
3.5/5 A lot of mid tempo boring tracks, White Stripes are at their best when they get LOUD
3.5
They’re good, just never a band I set out to listen to
Pretty fun. I enjoyed Jack's unorthodox guitar work. His over-the-top singing style with the slapback echo started to get a bit annoying, but overall a good album.
Ok as far as White Stripes albums go...probably better than their debut. But nothing I would every go to. Jack White is an enigma for me. 3/5
3.5 imo - crazy good in some respects but just mid in others
I mean it unreasonable to hope the rest of the album could be Seven Nation Army level, but man can’t help but feel a little let down. It’s not bad and little acorns is a cool song but yeah truly started of w a banger
They have better albums 3.5
Day332 - this doesn’t really change my opinion of the white stripes, i like them when i hear them but i don’t go out of my way to do it
Alright
"Otro disco sobrevalorado" era lo que iba a escribir, pero supongo que los años me han suavizado. Seven Nation Army es un gran clásico, inescapable en su tiempo, pero con justa razón aplaudido hasta ahora. El resto del disco se mantiene en la misma línea, aunque no alcanza las mismas alturas.
Again, one that I was really interested to listen to. It kicked off with seven nation army, but then went severely down hill. Until she sang one after that it improved quite a lot. The version that came up for me was the 'deluxe' one, and has a lot of live tracks which were quite simply painful. But as I don't believe that they were part of the original album I'm not taking them into account when giving it a 3.
This is actually my least-listened to WS album, which may be surprising. It's great, but any given time I feel like some WS I'm gonna put on White Blood Cells 99.9% of the time. It's science. My standouts: In The Cold Cold Night, The Hardest Button to Button, The Air Near My Fingers
i like it
2 sterne
Shoutout Pat McAfee 🫡
the strongest of strong starts, then tails off
Liked this album more than the others. Songs were better quality overall.
Seven Nation Army is a good but not amazing song. It is also overplayed. I think that Jack White sounds better solo
Interesante
Seven Nation Army obviously fucking slaps, followed up nicely with Black Math Love Meg's vocals on Cold, Cold Night These slower songs just don't really cut it. Seven Nation Army sets such a high standard that most of the songs can't live up to, especially the slower ones. I don't think his voice is suited to them. Simplicity=good, sometimes. I think this one is too simple too often. Little Acorns and Hypnotize are quite good. It's just, meh. I can listen through it fine enough I'm just rather bored doing it. Except that last song. What the fuck was that.
Good maybe I’ll like more on relistenes
Good project, I enjoyed the rawness it. Best song: Ball And Biscuit Worst song: Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine
Not really benefitting form this being the third album from TWS. Liked it more than I expected. You can't argue with the talent these guys possess. In moments it comes off as a more rockin Exile on Main Street and strains of Jimmy Page. I like it but still can't love it. It's a 3+
I see the appeal
I like Seven Nation Army, I kind of like Black Math, There’s No Home for You Here, The Hardest Button to Button, Little Acorns, Hypnotize
The surprising thing about this album to me is that the singles I was familiar with (namely, "Seven Nation Army" and "The Hardest Button to Button") are by far the most creative and interesting parts of the album. The rest of the album is mostly just rehashed 60s pop and, in those cases, I'd rather just listen to the people they're doing impressions of. 3.5
They built upon their one hit nicely enough but never really caught that lightning in a bottle again. 3/5
The music is good, but it all sounds the same with the same riffs, same chords, same drums. I forgot and Jack White's voice alright, but a little tiring by the end of the album. Lyrics feel like they're tryna ng a bit too hard at times.
Definitely listenable. Would probably return to it.
It’s a pretty good album. Probably not worthy of its legendary status but a good album nonetheless, I really hadn’t heard much previously other than Seven Nation Army.
Solid album, I've heard seven Nation army a million times, but did not expect the ballads that the album put out towards the end
I remember disliking The White Stripes because I thought Jack White couldn't play guitar, and Meg White couldn't play drums. It wasn't until later I realized that not only was Jack White a brilliant songwriter and phenomenal guitarist, he and Meg were focused on a kind of raw expression I couldn't conceive of at the time — one that far outstripped any concept I'd had of technical perfection.
Bit mid. Have listened before but one or two decent songs I haven't heard before
Very interesting. I kind of liked it, well especially the one song I recognized.
Own it
I think the actual quality of many albums get a little exaggerated due to cultural significance. This is one of them. It is a solid rock album that dropped in an era that desperately needed solid rock albums. There are a few true classic songs on it, but outside of those it's just solid.
This is their best album by far. But the pacing of the album is bad, the first 2 songs are great and then the tempo comes to a screeching halt until basically the end.
I wasn't in the best headspace this day. I liked the album, but I think I would like it better on a different day. Enjoyable overall. Felt very experimental, lots of different sounds and styles. Can't exactly place the genre, but it was pleasant. Apparently themes of losing your sweetheart, but I didn't pick up on that. Fav songs: I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself, Little Acorns, It's True That We Love Over Another
Love rock and roll but this sound is grating to me, mostly the guitar, and it doesn’t let up. Some songs I enjoy but wont play this front to back.
It was ok
Definitely good. I get a bit tired of it about 7 songs in.
I never followed up on this album when it was released, after having spent quite a lot of time with their previous album. Seven Nation Army is such a standout track on this one, nothing else matching the energy.
Hit song but some question marks on the others. Could have been better.
Based on what Jack is capable of I gotta go with a 3 here. Album is fairly incohesive overall. A few absolute rockers.
I like the White Stripes. Other than the one big hit though, this album doesnt hold together strongly for me.
yuh
Feel the same way about this one as the other White Stripes album on the list - enjoyable enough listen, but not something that grabbed me enough to come back to often.
I keep coming back to rate this because I keep thinking I don’t love it, yet I can’t stop listening, so it must be good! Each song keeps you guessing and Jack whites voice is so interesting. Listen again: yes Purchase for my collection: yes Favourite Song:
Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.
Ok
I can see why people love this, but I don't think I like Jack white all that much. still good enough
Bare bones, but still very expressive and intricate
Seven Nation Army has one of the best riffs ever. The rest of this album is forgettable.
I think I enjoy The White Stripes more theoretically than actually. That’s not to say I think this is bad. I still love “Seven Nation Army.” Jack White’s influences are on full display and he does a great job honouring what came before while also making it feel fresh. But there’s not a lot on this record that I yearn to revisit past the big hit and maybe one or two others. 3.5/5
Always passed this group off as a gimmick and never really gave them a chance. Heavy Detroit garage influence is evident. Somehow, I'd still rather listen to their influences. A lot of this inarguably rocks, but just feels... contrived, for lack of a better term. The recording process and equipment used is all really cool conceptually to me, but it just does not automatically make this a great album. All in all, I find it a little bland for what I feel like it wants to be. Listenable for sure, just not interesting.
OKish alt-rock album with one mega hit. 3/5
The middle section is very good, with a mix of softer and heavier tracks; but there is clearly something I'm missing in this. I can't imagine wanting to listen to this in full at any point.
Bruising opener, and some fun in the rest of the tracks without being stellar - quite a few too many quirky tracks
DAAAAA-da-dá-da-da-DUUUHHHH-DUUUHHHH. 6/10
Seven Nation Army is awesome. The rest was meh
The bass is very fun. I recognized some songs that I’d never known the origin of before. I don’t love his voice
Enjoyed listening to this. Jack White knows his stuff.
Mg Seven Nation Army, el resto meh.
According to YouTube music, Seven Nation Army has over 1 billion plays. The rest of the album has about 10% of that for all tracks combined. Surely some of those billion would want to see what the rest is about right? Well the rest is a bit weird and outside of one other track it may not be mainstream enough to keep the average listener entertained. 7NA also has some worldwide stadium appeal, just a crazy popular song. As I listened to olthe rest I guess that is fairly close to how I feel. I really like the songs I like of theirs, but the rest are some I probably don't need to hear very often. Favorite track "Seven Nation Army" 3/5
Seven Nation Army is a fantastic song, but what even was the rest of this album. I don't know why I couldn't get into it, but I can only describe most of it as noisy in a way that didn't work for me (except for the occasional tracks where the sound did a complete 180 and had just the barest instrumentals, which I also wasn't a fan of). I just didn't like this that much, probably more a matter of personal taste because I know a lot of people love this and consider it to be a great album. Unfortunately I am still rating this a 3 (2, +1 bonus star for the iconic opening track). Favourites are Seven Nation Army, I Want To Be The Boy…, The Hardest Button To Button, and The Air Near My Fingers
Too noisy for me
Had few standout spots.
"at the time, didnt recognize myself til I was petrified but half the time Im not myself so most of the time I dont question why"
Seven nation army a classic. Great from start to finish, good energy. Favorite song: Black Math Rating: 3.4/5
Somewhat similar to the other White Stripes album.
Seven nation army saved this album in my eyes. The rest was pretty forgettable.
Very good stripped back grunge-esque album. Notable vocal performance by Meg White and simple yet emotional song writing from Jack White. The White Stripes would propel a young Jack into rock maintream and earn him a spot in line of a guitar God. Mobilizing blues themes and hard rock energy the white stripes were able to craft a really consisted album that has some great notes of longevity.
This album hits pretty hard for a band with such a bare-bones approach. Some of the bass lines from the bigger hits are iconic at this point but there's still something that annoys me with this duo. Jack White (actually Jack Gillis) is the talent here and there's a lot to like but I'm not fully sold on him, I don't know exactly what it is (maybe the talk-singing, maybe not). I do like the loud, crunchy, unpolished vibe here. "Ball and Biscuit" is great for it's dirty blues feel, "In The Cold, Cold Night" is also great for being different than the others, but the last song is terrible and just brings me back to contemplating what I don't like about them.
Half great, half ok. Many hits are featured along with some skippers. Jack White has a knack for creating a song with a simple beat and a killer riff. A lot of power from this duo; however, leaving the listener with the final cornball, dud of a song drops the rating...3.3.
Not too bad, but it definitely starts off with the best.
Nope. Except for Seven Nation Army.
