All Hail the Queen
Queen Latifah19 years old when she released this, but 1989 hip hop doesn't age well.
19 years old when she released this, but 1989 hip hop doesn't age well.
I like the versatility and vulnerability of her voice, but I don't understand her music.
Vocals sound like Ray Charles at times. Some piano ragtime influences. Commentary on the deep south. N word used repeat6in first song Redneck
Great musicians, soulful singing, but tracks are too long! Spotify would not play the last track interview.
Hard, angry punk ain't my jam.
28 tracks; some big radio hits; some heavy hard rock, but a surprising number of quiet, thoughtful songs.
Art rock somewhat in the style of Queen. One listenable track: Baron Samedi.
Scooby Snacks, sampling dialogue from 'Pulp Fiction' is the one recognizable song.
Poor Ian Curtis... 23 years old!
Four big hits on an eight track album. 'Highway Star', 'Smoke On The Water' (cool story), and 'Space Truckin''. 'Lazy' is a cool 12 bar blues with an awesome Hammond Organ intro.
Indifferent; Cool drum sounds; "In the Morning of the Magicians" sounds like Neil Young's vocals.
Funk Soul Classics include: "Pusherman", "Freddie's Dead", and "Superfly".
Forgettable.
Most recognizable song is 'Strawberry Letter 23', which was later made famous with the Brothers Johnson release; this later version was used in two different Tarantino movies.
Three big radio hits: Enter Sandman and The Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters.
4 (3) radio hits: American Idiot (hard punk rock); Holiday / Boulevard of Broken Dreams (did not realize that was a pair songs on one 8:13 track... 2 completely different vibes); Wake Me Up When September Ends
Didn't give it a close listen, but some interesting, dark sounds.
First 7 of the 9 tracks are all memorable radio hits. Such a wide variety of sounds and vibes from song to song.
Too much French
Nope
Fun walk down memory lane!
Classic!
Psychedelic rock
Seven Nation Army Ball And Biscuit The Hardest Button to Button The Air Near My Fingers Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine It's True That We Love One Another (Jack & Meg with guest singer Holly Golightly) I Just Don't Know What to do With Myself is a remake of the Burt Bacharach / Dionne Warwick song 'Hypnotize' can't be played on Spotify!?
Uninspired follow-up to 'Rumors'. 20 tracks is too much, especially with so many underdeveloped tracks. They sound like a garage band at times!
This is the band that was created from 'Human League'. Funky bass lines for a synth band. 3 of the 9 tracks are not available on Spotify. 2 good tracks: Penthouse and Pavement Play to Win (sounds like Devo)
Big hits: Dancing Queen Knowing Me, Knowing You Money, Money, Money Fernando, and lesser known 'That's Me'. All very well crafted songs, with great instrumentation, vocal arrangements, and chord changes.
You'll need the lyrics to understand his slurred singing. Good songs!
I love Elvis' voice! He writes unconventional songs, and this album grew on me for the 2nd listen. No big radio hits from this album, but some good songs are: Beyond Belief The Long Honeymoon Man Out of Time The Loved Ones Human Hands Kid About It
Debut album recorded in 1978! First 3 tracks were big radio hits: Good Times Roll My Best Friend's Girl Just What I Needed (by far the most listened to according to Spotify, June 2023, over 200 million plays) Another decent hit: You're All I've Got Tonight
Not sure if a live album should be included in a top 1001 albums. Neat concept: Heavy Metal meets Classical Orchestra, but not a big enough Metalicca fan to appreciate their songs as an arrangement.
Uncomfortable listen at times, but some really good raps. One skit and the last track "The Kids" not available on Spotify, and Spotify does not publish Eminem's lyrics! Big hits: Kill You Stan Who Knew The Way I Am The Real Slim Shady
2 radio hits; Stand Orange Crush Other decent song is .Hairshirt Mandolin is a nice added instrument.
Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain is a wonderful song!
Nope... forgettable
Nope to the honky tonk.
Headphones and getting high music
Inspired by Woody Guthrie, traditional folk country, good story telling. Simple music with just guitar and voice and the occasional harmonica.
A 20 year old from Scotland, but only the title track is worthwhile. Trippy lyrics.
Great balance; it wasn't all about Miles, which was refreshing. There were long sections where there was no trumpet at all, and other times when an instrument kicked in and you couldn't tell right away if it was Shorter on Soprano Sax or Davie on a high muted trumpet. Very cool effect.
Five big hits: Once Even Flow Alive Black Jeremy. This album came out after my first year of university.
Favourite Tracks: Doo Wop (That Thing) I Used To Love Him (with Mary J. Blige) Forgive Them Father Everything Is Everything Can't Take My Eyes of You (I Love You Baby)
Effective studying music, and pretty cool that Eno coined the term 'ambient music'.
British crime rap ain't my bag.
Seeing the album cover art, I started listening with a negative mindset, but I was pleasantly surprised by this album. It's pensive and thoughtful folk music for the most part. He dedicated the album to Buddy Holly, and the title track includes the line "the day the music died" which is how that 1959 tragedy is now known as.
A Serbian playing Brazilian music! Zzh zzh
8th album from the prolific poet.
Big hits from 1995: Wonderwall Don't Look Back in Anger Morning Glory Champagne Supernova
Talented rapper, just not my jam. Runaway is a hood song.
Hell no!
Forgettable
Good vocal harmonies and excellent interplay of harmonica and saxophone in City, Country, City.
29 songs is too many for one album, but I wouldn't know because Spotify blocks 28 of those songs, leaving the listener to decide on a ranking based on one song "Hate My Way".
Second half of this old school rap album is better than the first. Good songs: Farmers Blvd (outro "You don't stop" used in Beastie Boys' Sabotage) Mama Said Knock You Out Jingling Baby To Da Break of Dawn The Power of God
Sleepy album for the most part, but good songs are: Boogie On Reggae Woman, You Haven't Done Nothing (pointing accusations at President Nixon), and They Won't Go When I Go (sad gospel feel).
Big hits: Break On Through (to the other side); Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar) (circus feel); Light My Fire; The End (featured in the intro of Apocalypse Now)
Great voice
That's All Right (Arthur Crudup 1946, then Elvis Presley 1954), but Rod Stewart's version is barely recognizable, but very good rocking blues version. The last 2 minutes of this 6 minute recording us a beautiful version of Amazing Grace featuring the slide guitar. Tomorrow is a Long Time is a Bob Dylan song, but Rod Stewart's version brings it to life, especially by adding the fiddle. This is the second song on this album that was previously recorded by Elvis Presley. The 32 second classical guitar intro at the start of Maggie May is called "Henry". Maggie May features the mandolin. I Know I'm Losing You is the first rocking song on this mostly folk album, but it is a remake of the 1966 Motown hit by the Temptations, which was turned into a funk rock song by Rare Earth in 1970. Reason To Believe is another cover song, so other than Maggie May, all of my favourite songs on this album are covers.
Roundabout inspired by the druve from Aberdeen to Glasgow. 'Cans and Brahms' is Wakeman's adaptation of an excerpt of the third movement of Symphony No. 4 in E minor by Johannes Brahms.
Gangster Rap with some singing "Patiently Waiting" (with Eminem) "In Da Club" "P.I.M.P."
Thoughtprovoking R&B Funk album "Billy Jack" (black man being gunned down) "Jesus" "Hard Times" "Love To The People"
And It Stoned Me Moondance Crazy Love Caravan Into The Mystic These Dreams of You Glad Tidings.
Diverse genres, great musicians and Elvis' amazing voice Long Black Limousine I'm Moving On In The Ghetto Suspicious Minds
Very good musicians, but I get really tired quick of her vocal tone.
Time To Pretend Kids. Worth a second listen
Still Life is a cool song. The album probably deserves a second listen.
Everybody Knows Take This Waltz (backup vocalist Jennifer Warnes). Otherwise, synthesizer based album would sound better with real instruments.
All sounds the same after the title track. Last album by Bon Scot
Monk & Rollins 1957 - Hard Bop Ba-Lue Bolivar Ba-Lues-Are Bemsha Swing. Monk plays the celeste on Pannonica
Guitar Town has a recognizeable guitar melody My Old Friend The Blues is a lovely ballad. Overall a regular country twang album.
Dreams; Never Going Back Again (great acoustic guitar sound, vocals and guitar all by Lindsey Buckingham Don't Stop (Christine McVie) Go Your Own Way The Chain (great guitar sounds, including a Dobro, and has a fretless bass solo ) Gold Dust Woman (another great guitar sound - Dobro, and is about Stevie Nicks' cocaine addiction) 6 of the 11 tracks are very famous
Do NOT like her voice. Folk
Dreary album (after a breakup with his long term girlfriend), but it deserves a couple of listens to let or sink in. Wiki: "the album features themes of heartbreak and desolation, solitude, and loneliness. For the album, much of Beck's trademark cryptic and ironic lyrics were replaced by simpler, more sincere lyrical content." "Little One" has a Nirvana feel
Scottish folk singer and gifted guitar picker. Running From Home Angie (guitar only)
Scarborough Fair / Canticle Homeward Bound The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy) 7 O'Clock News / Silent Night
I didn't expect to like this album very much, but the whole album is keyboard heavy which adds a tone and texture I didn't know that Jack White used. Worth extra listenings. Missing Pieces (cool keyboards) Weep Themselves To Sleep I'm Shakin' Trash Tongue Talker Hip Poor Boy Guess I Should Go To Sleep On and On and On
Not fond of 18 track albums which includes alternate versions of the same songs, especially with the 3 biggest hits being covers! That Lady (funk cover of their own 1964 song) Listen To The Music (Doobie Brothers cover) Summer Breeze (Seals & Crofts cover)
Lots of radio hits, but other than "Pour Some Sugar On Me", I was never a fan of Def Leppard.
Never heard of him, but quite a good album. Worth a 2nd listen
Ugh, why are live albums on this list?
Nope
Sounds like happy go lucky band like the monkees, but with better musicians. Groovin' is a classic.
Normally not a fan of live albums, but this one makes sense since they needed an actual concert hall organ for part of it. Three incredible musicians!!!
Interesting chord changes throughout.
"Wild Mountain Thyme" "Eight Miles High"
Four big songs: Gimme All your Lovin' Got Me Under Pressure Sharp Dressed Man Legs. I was 11 years old when this album came out, and I remember drawing that car in my art book.
38 tracks over 2 hours is a big listen, but it's nice to hear old style jazz.
Amazing 1969 album!
Bell Bottom Blues Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out Key To The Highway Layla
Sappy love songs
Harry Nilsson has such a dynamic and interesting voice. Without You & Coconut are the most recognizable songs.
Forgettable
Fun & angry. Reminds me of Eminem & Beastie Boys... goofy hip hop at times, but solid blues and funk samples throughout.
Block Rockin' Beats Dig Your Own Hole (workout music) Setting Sun
Don't normally approve of live albums, but the audience is virtually nonexistent other than intro and outro clapping. Nice laid back piano jazz.
Perfect Day Walk On The Wild Side
High and Dry Fake Plastic Trees Nice Dream Just Street Spirit
Excellent music (samples and loops), but I can't take British rappers seriously.
Neat to listen to once, but not my kind of music.
Artsy! Not radio friendly though.
Hard to listen to an entire album with the same processed vocals. Last Night is the big hit. Basic rock with a hint of punk.
Waterloo Sunset is decent. Happy go lucky album.
Ska, i like the sax.
Take a Bow: cool chord progression, fast arpeggiated synths sounds futuristic with big power chords on the guitar; Starlight: poppy happy synth melody, but gets grungier and angrier before quietly sings the album title in the lyrics; Supermassive Black Hole: heavy sound at first, but with falsetto voice and some harmony, industrial sounds near end a la Nine Inch Nails; Soldier's Poem: slow 6-8 in the style of Elvis' Can't Help Falling In Love With You; nice chords and interesting chromatic vocal harmonies in the style of the Beatles and Queen, but a dark story; Invincible: starts with slow military marching drum with sad organ playing a pretty chord progression, but builds up with a synth sounding like a theramin, sounds inspired by U2 after two minutes mark, after 3:30 it gets grungier and angrier with histrionic fast arpeggiated chords on the lead guitar Assassin: best (angry) song on the album, driving, thrashing, angry, cool rhythm guitar; Exo-Politics: theramin synth again, vocal harmony; City of Delusion: very dramatic song starts with acoustic guitar quick strumming then driving bass line, then a middle eastern synth feel before turning to harder rock followed by quick synth bass line that sounds like it's under water. Acoustic guitar followed by rumpet line in spanish feel starting at 3:30. Great song to pound along with on guitar, piano, or drums; Knights of Cydonia: dramatic sound in the spaghetti western feel of Ennio Morricone's movie music, then surfer guitar with simple melody on distorted electric guitar with a bit of trumpet followed by a vocal harmony section.
Wow, not at all my style of music! I am stunned that this horrible album is on ANY list. How did this album warrant a spot?!?
Scottish Psychedelic Folk.
Cloud Nine I Heard It Through The Grapevine (cover, better known by Gladys Knight & Marvin Gaye) Gonna Keep Tryin'
Nope. 60s psychedelia.
~ TaxMan ~ Yellow Sumarine ***** Eleanor Rigby *****, just 2:06 ***** Tomorrow Never Knows
Ms. Jackson Bombs over Baghdad Xplosion
Led Zeppelin knock-off. The album probably tells a whole story that I'm not interested in.
Famous tracks: What's Love Got To Do With It (but not a great song); Private Dancer (surprisingly long at 7:14, and includes some sultry sax, written by Mark Knopfler); Better Be Good To Me (good song, with a ~ rock feel); Interesting covers: I Can't Stand The Rain Let's Stay Together (Al Green) Help! (Beatles, but in a motown / gospel feel, with Jeff Beck on guitar)
Scottish band with a dreamier, gentler sound than you'd expect with 'Primal Scream' as the band name. Even some song titles imply that they'd be a hard rock angry band. Movin' On Up is my favourite track.
Hell is Round the Corner is a remake of a Potroishead remake.
Only 2 songs available on Spotify
This album shows off his vocal control and vulnerability, especially when accompanied by mostly stripped down arrangements. Grace has cool chords and strumming. Hallelujah is a great cover.
Holy hell, that was awful!
You're My Best Friend '39 (about going off to war) Bohemian Rhapsody God Save The Queen The rest are very strange.
Very good explanations and demonstrations before playing.
Chipmunk Soul & Hip Hop with lots of real instruments including violin and grreat bass lines. "All Falls Down" "Spaceship" (samples Marvin Gaye) "Jesus Walks" "Never Let Me Down" "Get Em High" "The New Workout Plan" "Slow Jamz" "School Spirit" (chipmunk sample of Aretha Franklin) "Two Words" "Family Business"
Voice sounds like Sting, Seal and Peter Gabriel. The Bones of You is my favourite.
LSD inspired album. Some songs sound like Jimi Hendrix Experience
Interesting vocal computer effects. Reminds me of Portishead
* Rockefeller Skank Gangster Trippin Kalifornia Soul Surfing You're Not From Brighton * Praise You
Different kind of jazz
Portuguese? Reminds me of ELP
Amazing double album and concept. Love how "In the Flesh?" later becomes "In the Flesh".
Three big hits are: Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Witchy Woman (not a fan of this one), with one more decent track "Train Leaves Here This Morning". The rest is sub-par.
1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 (9/8) chords, 10, 11
Fell On Black Days (changing time signature) Black Hole Sun Spoonman
I can't believe this is their DEBUT album! Tuesday's Gone Gimme Three Steps Simple Man Things Goin' On (love the honky tonk piano)(political commentary) Free Bird Mister Banker (demo) great blues guitar sound
Reminds me of The Housemartins, lots of quick acoustic guitar strumming and skiffle drumming. The Headmaster Ritual That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore Barbarism Begins at Home Meat Is Murder
Drab and dreary. Two decent songs: Suzanne So Long, Marianne
Knives Out
Even Better Than the Real Thing One Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses Mysterious Ways
Brown Sugar Wild Horses Can't You Hear Me Knocking (first 2:40 is standard rock then the last five minutes has a very different groove a jazz jam featuring a gritty sax solo by Bobby Keys and Billy Preston on organ, and Keith's guitar solo sounds A LOT like Carlos Santana) You Gotta Move (Southern black gospel song) Bitch I Got The Blues (slow 6/8) with an explosive Hammond organ solo by Billy Preston Dead Flowers!!
There is far too much Metallica on this 1001 album list!
Ugh
Mostly forgettable covers, but a great version of Blue Skies
Boring, forgettable, dreary.
Not sure why Syd Barrett is on this list. "Long Gone" sounds like an early Rolling Stones song.
Early rap with understandable lyrics and musical samples.
Prog rock before they made radio friendly music.
1969 album by British solo artist. Amazing guitar picking and all acoustic instruments including upright bass. One song has an oboe.
Angry, dense industrial music with vocals hidden in the mix for most of it. Mr. Self Destruct Heresy Closer Hurt
Amazingly quiet and controlled vocals and subtle piano accompaniment. Don't Know Why Seven Years Cold Cold Heart Come Away With Me Turn Me On Lonestar I've Got To See You Again One Flight Down
Amusing musical reference album title, but garbage garage band calibre music.
You Are The Sunshine of my Life Maybe Your Baby (great clarinet & Moog bass combo) Tuesday Heartbreak has sax by David Sanborn (very similar to the sax sound in David Bowie's Young Americans) Superstition Big Brother Blame it on the Sun I Believe (when I fall in love)
70s dirty rock, some about muscle cars, but singer sounds like Bowie
Lovely soul voice, but dated 1986 style of music.
Commentary on the Vietnam War "Imagine" "Jealous Guy" "Oh My Love" "How Do You Sleep" (Attack of Paul McCartney)
Black Dog - unusual and changing time signature Rock and Roll - simple I-IV-V song seems to refer to older rock songs Stairway to Heaven - classic (features the recorder) Misty Mountain Hop (about legalizing marijuana Four Sticks- 5/4 and 6/8 Going to California- quiet folk song with mandolin (no drums) When The Levee Breaks, 1927 blues song about the great Mississipi Flood of 1927 - my absolute favourite from this album, famously the drums were recorded in a tall stairwell with mics suspended from above.
Beautiful voice! Mostly sad songs about lost love
Two very good songs: Monday Monday California Dreamin'
Mrs. Robinson A Hazy Shade of Winter (original)
Tango Till They're Sore Diamonds and Gold Hang Down Your Head Time Gun Street Girl Blind Love (with Keith Richards as guest artist) Downtown Train (also recorded by Rod Stewart and Bob Seger) man in artwork is NOT Tom Waits, but rather a man named 'Rose' and the woman is 'Lilly' by Swedish photographer Anders Petersen at Café Lehmitz in the late 1960s.
Vocalist from Blur / Gorillaz
Very good music and musicians, but terrible voice. Rainy Day Woman (Everybody Must Get Stoned) I Want You Stuck Inside of Mobile Just Like a Woman
Unusual
All over the place... soft jazz, instrumental, rap, synth pop!
California themed folk pop
Incredible vocals by Mark Hollis. Happiness is Easy I Don't Believe (in) You Life's What You Make It Living In Another World (amazing harmonica solo) Time It's Time
Forgettable
Awesome album art! Interesting mix of rock songs and sappy love songs. Great use of piano throughout. Bat out of Hell (nearly 10 minutes) Two out of Three Ain't Bad Paradise by the Dashboard Light (8.5 minutes)
Bizarre Scottish duo, Sometimes sounding like Bowie's vocals, i.e. 'Gloomy Sunday'
1st track has a rick feel that doesn't jive with the rest of this laid back album. It's Savid Crosby, but Graham Nash, Neil Young, and Jerry Garcia are all on this album too. Laughing (backing vocals by Joni Mitchell) Traction in the Rain (featuring the autoharp) Song With No Words
Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard Congratulations Paranoia Blues (I prefer thedemk version)
Impressive musicality, but too angry for me.
Waitin' for the Bus (which seamlessly blends into) Jesus Just Left Chicago La Grange
Forgettable
Impressive that all music, singing, and instruments were all performed by Dave Grohl. The one non-angry radio hit was 'Big Me'.
Faux live album with audience sounds added afterwards; Incredible vocals by Janis Joplin. Summertime (jazz standard in a blues style) Piece of my Heart Turtle Blues (traditional piano blues) Bell and Chain (long electric blues vamp)
Like Talking Heads, but weirder
Live albums simply shouldn't be on this list.
Only one track available on Spotify.
Acoustic folk rock, acoustic guitar and subtle drums to reveal whisperry, quiet vocals with his own vocal harmonies. Hints of Nirvana's unplugged session, and CSNY, and some Beatles vocal harmonies. Between the Bars reminds me of Zombie by the Cranberries.
19 years old when she released this, but 1989 hip hop doesn't age well.
Forgettable electronica
Fast Car was the radio single. The rest doesn't appeal to me.
Chrissie Hynde has such a great voice, low pitched, but controlled tremolo. Not sure why 'Brass in Pocket' is the big radio hit from this album.
American version of Blue Rodeo (Or is Blue Rodeo the Canadian version of Wilco?!) I've always heard about this group, but never really listened before. A few songs that caught my ear: Forget The Flowers Red-Eyed and Blue Why Would You Wanna Live.
Voice reminds me of Gorillaz. Some grungy chaotic rock with harmonica. Some choir mixed in. 'Cool Waves' has a good vibe.
Go West (cover of Village People 1979 song) uses Pachelbel Canon chord progression.
I like the versatility and vulnerability of her voice, but I don't understand her music.
Everyday People See Machine I Want To Take You Higher
Blowin' in the Wind A Hard Rain's a-gonna Fall Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
My Sweet Lord Isn't It a Pity What Is Life
Shite, boring immature angry teenage garage rock
Fun Cowboy ballads. Smooth crooning voice like Roy Orbison or Elvis Presley. The Strawberry Roan (horse song, but sounds like swearing each time he sings "buck") El Paso
Eclectic. "Hollywood Music" has some cool moments.
Let's Spend The Night Together (Rolling Stones cover) Jean Genie
Golden Years
Ambient electronic. No thanks.
1969 Hard rock / punk. No thanks.
Fun album! Cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" has hints of Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" Filthy / Gorgeous Music is the Victim
Rocks Off (Shake Your Hips is very close to ZZ Top's LA Grange) Tumbling Dice Sweet Virginia (acoustic) Sweet Black Angel (acoustic) Happy Let It Loose Shine a Light (so good!)
First half is big band; second half if string ballads. Let The Good Times Roll It Had To Be You Alexander's Ragtime Band Don't Let The Sun Catch You Cryin' Am I Blue Come Rain or Come Shine
Tabla mix of traditional Indian and east Asian music with modern trance drum beats.to be listened to loud or with headphones. Traveller Butterfly Sutrix Eclipse (very percussive) Light (incredibly fast finger drumming on the tabla at 3:30 mark along beautiful flute playing)
In Dark Trees has a cool undeveloped vibe in a soundtrack style. He is transitioning toward ambient music
Wow, such dark, religious, end of life introspection.
Changes Life on Mars
Easy review... Spotify only lists one song on this album. Amazon Music doesn't even show this album. I do remember the album art for another Monks album: Bad Habits with a sexy nun.
Trip Hop - forgettable
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes (3 parts)
Easy listening
Don't love his voice
Sax and guitar samba
Rikki Don't Lose That Number East St. Louis Toodle-Oo The rest is forgettable
Girls & Boys Park Life
Lovefool
Stay With Me
Low sing/talking sounds like Lou Reed / David Bowie The Fear (Am - E - F - C) reminds me of Muse. This is Hardcore reminds me of Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'. A Little Soul could be Tom Petty
Wanna Be Start Something Thriller Beat It Billie Jean Human Nature PYT 6 huge tracks and 1 horrible duet
Wow, this is awful, especially her vocals!
Great vocals. Cry To Me Goodbye Baby (6/8) If You Need Me (Wilson Pickett) Can't Nobody Love You (lyrics reference Sam Cooke and Ray Charles) Won't You Give Him (One More Chance)
Why so angry? And a double album, with the second half being live versions of crappy songs? No thanks
Not a fan of punk rock
Church like high male tight harmonies with folk feel, sounds like CSNY & Hozier Sun it Rises Tiger Mountain Peasant Song Your Protector Meadowlarks
Incredible album... first 9 tracks are all memorable. The whole album is dark and sad except for Strangelove. The most memorable tracks are: Never Let Me Down Again Strangelove Little 15 (featuring timpani)(last track of side 1) Behind The Wheel Bonus tracks are mostly instrumental remixes, except for the last song, Pleasure, Little Treasure was released as the B single single to Never Let Me Down Again.
Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is Beginnings I'm a Man Liberation (first 2 and last 2 minutes) Love the chord progression: Bb, Eb, C7, F7 Gm, Eb, C7, Eb with chromatic movement (later used in a James Bond theme)
Sloppy rock
Killer Queen Stone Cold Crazy
Love Her Madly L.A. Woman Riders On The Storm
Not my style
Rhythm Nation Miss You Much. Too political with her messaging. Sounds just like MJ.
Heart of Gold Old Man There's a World Alabama The Needle and The Damage Done Words (Between the Lines of Age) (has an interesting subtractive time signature of 3+3+3+2 or 6+5)
Not my style. Reminds me of Kate Bush
Lead singer has a Mick Jagger feel to his delivery. Love the unplugged bass throughout. Blister In the Sun Add It Up Confessions Gone Daddy Gone (featuring xylophone)
Around The World Parallel Universe Scar Tissue Otherside Californication Porcelain Right On Time Road Trippin'
Jesus, etc. Reservations Otherwise forgettable album
9-9 has a great sound. The rest is forgettable.
Not much more annoying than a fiddle played out of tune.
It's not that it's bad, but how is this part of the top 1001?! Completely forgettable mainstream young woman country music, just like hundreds of others just like her.
Busy, too much going on. I prefer Emerson, Lake, and Palmer
Vocals sound like Ray Charles at times. Some piano ragtime influences. Commentary on the deep south. N word used repeat6in first song Redneck
Mellow, lots of harmonica
Noise Rock ain't my jam
Wesley's Theory King Kunta Alright How Much a Dollar Cost The Blacker The Berry I Mortal Man (Listen to the podcast 'Dissect' that analyzes this album)
The Band Keeps Playin' On. Streets of Laredo (deep voice) Cryin' Time (written by B.O., but famously recorded by Ray Charles. Act Naturally (live version)(not written by B.O., but recorded by The Beatles in 1965.)
Noise
Not very interesting American late 60s pseudo psychedelia.
No radio hits. Some instrumental tracks.
90s punk / rock Here Comes Your Man Silver
Solo work by the singer from The Smiths. Reminds me of the Housemartins. One memorable song is Suedehead.
Title track is most recognized, bit they all have the same overall sound with the vocal harmonies and the jangling guitar sound.
Living After Midnight Rapid Fire Red, White, and Blue
Fun Cuban Music
Incredible album. Red Rain Sledge Hammer Don't Give Up (Duet with Kate Bush) That Voice Again Big Time (featuring Tiny Levin's funk fingers (mini drum sticks to play bass guitar)) In Your Eyes
Reminds me of Foo Fighters
Experimental rock vamping on the Bo Diddley rhythm, pretty boring
I disagree
Maybe I'm Amazed is the one radio hit.
Rock with vocal harmonies and organ and some reggae rhythm. I Remember When Dreaming of You Wildfire
Album not available on Spotify, but a couple of radio hits: Justified & Ancient (with Tammy Wynette) 3am Eternal
Awful
Photograph Foolin' Rock of Ages are the big radio hits. Well produced and polished sound, but not my genre.
Album is part 'bitches & hoes' and partly racial commentary after the Rodney King beating where the 4 officers were acquitted. It Was a Good Day Check Yo Self (samples 1963 recording of "I'm Blue" by The Sweet Inspirations, (written by Ike Turner))(same sample as the following year's 'Shoop' by Salt 'n' Pepa)
Terrible 80s synth goth pop Bowie-ish false manly voice
I usually object to live albums on this list, but this is the only album I know by Peter Frampton. Show Me The Way Baby, I Love Your Way Do You Feel Like We Do
Mellow trip Hop. My favorites are the ones with guest female singers. Protection & Better Things with Tracey Thorn Three & Sly with Nicolette
Nothing special.
Sign of the Times (political commentary over a pop song) House quake (dance song) U Got the Look (very 80s) If I was Your Girlfriend I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man (80s pop) Adore
I don't believe live albums should be on this list, but at least it was a collection of his biggest hits.
Beautiful instrumental album. Particularly like the three way call and response between the flute, guitar, and santoor (dulcimer) in the opening track.
Don't like his voice. Some instrumental tracks have a nice sound though.
Cross between Talking Heads & Devo then his Mellow stuff.
Tracy Thorn has a lovely voice. (She was q guest singer on the recently rated Massive Attack album) I Don't Wanna Talk About It is a nice cover. The Night I Heard Caruso Sing is a pretty duet. Apron Strings is also pretty.
Forgettable early Dance / electronica
Nice low voice. Overall sad feeling songs.
Lazy, sloppy punk rock music
They shouldn't have used the Extended Edition, which might mislead a new listener to think this important historical album and song was released in 2010 instead of 1982.
Experimental jazz fusion. Excellent musicians (except the occasional singing), but not my kind of music
Growly German vocals over inconsistent genre music.
Old school hip hop where you can understand the words that they are rapping
More excellent old school Hip Hop with understandable rapping.
I'm surprised that this album is on the list considering his other more prominent works.
4 big hits in a row... Tom Sawyer Red Barchetta YYZ (love this instrumental) Limelight
Sunshine of Your Love Take It Back (Clapton blues)
McCoy Tyner's piano is the best part of this album. Not as difficult to listen to as his other albums, but I don't understand the big deal about Coltrane.
Weird like Bjork
Mostly instrumental only. Tough on the ears; not an album you need to hear twice; great musicianship, but rock jazz fusion is not easy to enjoy.
Unusual. No natural flow to the melodies or instrumentation. Sounds like a collection of musical snipets, which is quite tiring on the ears.
Crappy punk
Surprisingly good. Nice combination of fiddle and horns.
Not much of interest other than the one radio hit.
Sounds remind me of Oasis and Crowded House and the vocalist reminds me of Thom York. Some mellow radio hits from a Scottish Band... Writing To Reach You The Last of the Laughter Why Does It Always Rain On Me?
Her voice is too high for my liking. Her vocal style is like Carole King.
1998 angry rock Freak on a Leash All in the Family (with Fred Durst)
A little strange for me
Worth an extra listen
Not bad
Completely forgettable pop rock
Creep Waterfalls If I Was Your Girlfriend (Prince cover)
