Unremarkable and bland.
All sounds the same
I couldn’t finish this one. I have heard enough AC/DC to know that it is not for me. Every song sounds the same and I feel like I heard the whole album after listening to the first two tracks.
more honey guys with instruments. rock on. too masculine. don’t like the singers voice. unpleasant tbh
AC/DC are one of those bands that were on a lot in my house when I was young, as my dad is a big fan. I, on the other hand, am not. I like one AC/DC song - which is not on this album. Some I don’t mind or have a fondness for, like a couple here. Most I find irrelevant. The title track is obviously a classic, and I am fond of “Touch Too Much” off this album; the issue is all the tracks sound the same. Which is the overall problem I have with AC/DC: it all sounds the same. They are the Status Quo of hard rock. I prefer Bon Scott’s vocals compared to Brian Johnson’s, so at least I’m not a complete and utter disappointment to my father.
I really wish i was more into heavy rock i’d feel a lot cooler but unfortunately i’m not wired that way, i can appreciate this is a good album but just not an album for me:(
This is how a found out AC/DC are Australian?
i don’t think I can get behind this sort of rock music. I cannot stand the 70s hair metal scene. It’s one of my least favorite rock genres rock eras ever. rest in peace to the original singer. I read that he passed away sometime ago, but his vocals just don’t do it for me. The two songs that I really like our girls got rhythm and night prowler.
Of course the title track is a classic, but I found the rest of the album kinda boring. This isn’t my genre, but I still expected more and I think I’m gonna give it a 2 based on that.
The brilliance of Roy Orbison's rock'n'roll masochism is the Big O's commitment to the bit. He doesn't just allow himself to be cucked by women and intimidated by men, he doesn't merely cry and run scared in the story of the song, but he shares the song, prostrating himself before the listener. It's a huge risk that pays off. I wish Bon Scott's position made half as much sense. He seems at the mercy of these women, a dribbling fetishistic mess before their lace, their high heels and their thighs. But, yet, he's going to walk all over them. Some of the women are controlling and untrustworthy, while simultaneously doing "all the thing (Scott) wants (them) to." He uses exactly the same phrase on several songs. Although Scott is always at the risk of being set alight, driven insane, or otherwise ruptured by the women he is sleeping with, it is not because they exert any power over him. Rather, it is because they capitulate entirely to his desires. It is decadence. And decadence of the most meat-headed kind. The paradoxes and contraries are hardly Wildean: "the face of an angel, smilin' with sin," "a fist in a velvet glove." Indeed, they are not paradoxes at all, they are commonplaces. The decadence is no more than hyperbole. You can't be transgressively normative and Bon Scott doesn't know the difference between masochism and machismo. Too much of a rock star to be vulnerable, victim only to his own excesses. He may present himself as a Christian martyr thrown to lions on If You Want Blood, but he has none of the conviction. He'll say anything that feels right in the moment. But all that feels right to him is another rock'n'roll or sexual cliché. He wants to be the martyr and the emperor watching on and downing peeled grapes. That would be an interesting contradiction if he didn't just sound like he was blaming the serving girls for looking well in the short tunics he picked out for them. 1.5 It is troubling that on an album which is almost wall to wall rock songs about sex or the pursuit of it, the only phallic symbol present in the lyrics is the knife sticking out of someone’s back in Night Prowler. What the fuck is going on there gentlemen? Highway to Hell is a miserable procession of procedural lobotomy rock. And it’s a dangerous album. I was driving a car at the time when I noticed the lyric, in Touch Too Much, that goes “[She had] a body of Venus with Arms”. What could I do but applaud for a full minute? It’s only luck there wasn’t a serious accident. 1/5
I don’t seem to get the hype. This sound just isn’t for me.
This album was a lot like the last AC/DC album I had to listen to, very bland and samey. This one was shorter though I think, so at least it took less time to get through this time. I can't deny they're talented players, but they choose to make such uninteresting music. It feels like an affront to real rock music. Favorites: Highway to Hell
👎👎👎
I owned that one on vinyl and later on CD. Scott's voice was, for me, essential for AC/DC, as was Young's guitarwork. It took me a long time to accept Johnson. But as there was this album, I didn't need another one.
Amazing album. I feel it’s fairly ubiquitous between tv, movies, sporting events, bars, radio etc. It is easy to forget how monumental and ground breaking this was. Think I have to give it at least a 4.5 so a 5 it is, as I continue to round up and give benefit of the doubt.
This was an interesting first pull because I’ve actually been re-discovering my love for this album already prior to today. I’m absolutely floored by how crispy and crunchy the whole thing sounds. Bon was the man. Guitars sound flawless. Favorite track is STILL ‘Touch Too Much’.
To me this is one of the greatest albums of all time, so many classics. They’re unbeaten when it comes to a great amped up rock song with satisfying riffs. Such a strong album early on for them too. I love it this was already a classic to me. Such consistent high energy music.
This happens to be my favourite AC-DC album. Back in Black is good but I always preferred Bonn Scott to Brian Johnson who most of the time likes to belt out his vocals at a high pitch most of the time while Bonn Scott's vocal style stays varied between high and low, while still maintaining consistent energy throughout most albums of his era. This album is no exception. I can't really think of another album that perfectly encapsulates classic rock and includes so many memorable guitar riffs, while channelling the classic sounds of Blues rock but not having the style of music overshadow the whole album. Touch too much is my favourite song from it.
I bloody love me some AC/DC so this is a long time favourite of mine. Touch Too Much is up there with my favourite songs of theirs. I will say though for being their most famous song, I would rank 4-5 songs on the album ahead of Highway To Hell. Top Track - Touch Too Much
Repeat listen
This album really won me over. I never listened to this album in full, and going into it I assumed that it would be filled with songs I've heard on classic rock radio many times and have lost their luster, despite their influence. Even though it's clear how this album (and AC/DC more generally) influenced countless bands for years to come, the riffs are more timeless than I thought - there's a primordial essence to them that's hard to deny. This album is just plain ol' fun rock. Perhaps it's a 4.5, but I'm rounding it to 5 by the surprise it gave me.
A classic album that everyone should own
My top list of all time. Classic collection from Kings of Rock. can’t help it!
Top notch...
Bon Scott is the man!! This album is pure perfection. I think this album launched AC/DC into super stardom. Too bad it was Bon's final masterpiece. This is one of my all time favorite albums ever recorded.
It might be formulaic, but they damn near created the formula and have done it better than anyone else. With Bon Scott, they were so good at bringing that sleazy, dirty, grimy feel to rock music in such a fun way. This album never gets old.
Fantastic production and performance.
Favorite Track: Walk All Over You
music is love
A perfect exemplar of a time long gone. Released in the second half of 1979, Highway to Hell was the last album to feature singer Bon Scott before his untimely death. The title track is iconic and the whole album rocks and swings hard while still having some pop and commercial sensibilities. But for 1979, this was still dangerous music for rebel kids dressed in a denim vest uniform, adorned with patches from hard rock and metal bands. AC/DC would rise to new heights with their next album, Back in Black, but Highway to Hell shows them at the pinnacle of their musical creativity, which makes it even more tragic that Bon Scott would die less than a year after it's release. The world will never know what AC/DC could have been like if they continued to be fronted by Scott; but they left us this jam to crank up in his memory.
oh ok
Hard charging rock, led by the incredible vocals of Bon Scott and complimented by Angus and Malcolm with Cliff and Phil lending their talents. Incredible rock and roll album. It is a 4.5 (not perfect) but since you can't give a half star, it is a full 5.
One of the greatest rock albums of all time, and one that's ageing disgustingly well. Of course much of it sounds the same, but who gives a shit when it's this good. Just don't listen too hard to the lyrics. 5*
I don't have to listen to this to rate it. I used to scare my nana by leaving this album around the place. This is an absolute belter. Classic Aussie hard rock. Night Prowler is my favourite under rated song. If You Want Blood is iconic. The whole album is just so good - easiest 5 stars ever
06/01 Classic album. Not a bad song on it
My kind of music 🤘🏿
Rate: 10/10. IF YOU WANT BLOOD!!!!!!!!! YOU GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
- ts hits everytime - i dont care this is the frickin stuff - milan, cullen, mds, jordan, and me love this album - the guitar shredding is always good
I was surprised that even the songs I hadn't heard before were absolute bangers. I'll have to listen to this again.
la tipica, cool
Guys will see this and just think "hell yeah".
really cool album. felt really good throughout and at times i felt like i was eating a cake.
15 year old me is screaming rn
IT's ACDC and one fo their most iconic albums. 5/5
Killer and iconic hard rock energy. Was pleasantly surprised that the end of the album manages to cool off a bit and offer some more unique songs to help the album feel less one-note. AC/DC always brings ballsy energy, and this album is no different. Top tracks: highway to Hell, Walk All Over You, Night Prowler
It could be argued that AC/DC it's a substandard band by how similar and same sound all of their songs. That such a band gained such fame and success, it's also arguable. But, and I think here's the crux of the thing, their music fucking rocks. That's undisputable, at least on these classic albums. There's not much that can be said about this music. It's catchy, rhythmical, energetic, fun. Their songs have ear-catchy melodies, and are easy to remember. A lot of singles, bla bla. I think this is music that you listen when you start to explore rock music and popular music in general. And despite the time and other music, it still can be a safe spot for something fun to listen. That's all you can expect, and sometimes, ¿what more you need? ALso, i love Night Prowler. what a song.
Classic band. Great album even if not my favorite. The start of their arena rock sound.
This is one of those few records I would take to the deserted island….no need to climb trees for coconuts….just turn this album up loud and the coconuts will fall all on their own 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Best Song: Highway to Hell This is an absolute classic hard rock album. I wish I could say this was my first time since that would mean that I would be able to listen to it again for the first time. But, alas, it is not. Always a great listen and a must for anyone into rock/hard rock/metal. 5/5.
I love ac/dc
I am quite familiar with this album, having listened to it quite a few times before beginning the project. This is probably classic hard rock in its purest form. It gets by on two things: anthemic choruses and loud riffs. And, really, what else do you need? This is a great album just off the colossal hits that came off it, proving that the masses love this brand of raw rock with just enough pop polish to make the top 40 for 12 weeks or so. Lyrics are simplistic and dumb, but that's the point if I'm being honest. However, they clearly have a talent for songcraft, making simple three-chord riffs into anthemic songs that still hold up in the modern era. AC/DC of this era never fails to be a fun listen if nothing else, and this album is hardly the one to disappoint. It's an absolute classic of the classic rock genre, and I will never be able to rate it less than 5 stars.
« NO COMMENT ». No comment.
This album has aged well. The first album with mutt Lange producing and the last with Bon Scott on vocals. It’s really well balanced and tracks like ‘love hungry man’ and ‘if you want blood’ are excellent. The definitive statement by the entirely Antipodeon original line up.
Every Song a banger!
One of the top rock albums of the 70's and still sounds great. Best of the Bon Scott era. Night prowler is a little weak, but thats it! An easy 5 from me.
Yes please.
A very good album, a classic. A great listen.
another classic banger. some say all AC DC Albums sound the same but this one sounds the samest (best)
fuck yeah!!!
I enjoyed this style of rock.
Classic rock and roll at it finest 🤘👊
Yea this album was all the way fire. There’s really not much to say outside of that. The first two tracks are phenomenal so to start a record off like that is some legendary shit.
Dumb album where everything sounds the same, but a fun and good album still. Brian Johnson was a commendable replacement, but I prefer Bon Scott's voice and energy. This might as well be a greatest hits album with all the bangers on here. Touch Too Much and Walk All Over You are my favorites here. A bunch of good songs, none really bad, good album.
Fav songs: • Highway to Hell (obvs) • Touch too much
10/10.
Classic brother-in-law rock, taxi rock radio station, stories from the old times, dandruff, etc. Amazing anyway.
Rock N Roll baby!
As I grew up in the 80's, this is a true classic.
Yesterday “Back in Black,” today “Highway to Hell”—OK, challenge accepted. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that AC/DC with Bon Scott and AC/DC with Brian Johnson were two different bands. But the differences are certainly striking when you compare them side by side—besides the obviously different vocals, especially in terms of songwriting. “Highway to Hell” is much more deeply rooted in the blues and thus presents a significantly more authentic and raw version of AC/DC than “Back in Black” did a year later. Naturally, this makes the songs tend to be a bit less catchy—apart from the title track, of course—and they really don’t unfold until the second listen. Overall, “Highway to Hell” ranks in my top 2 or 3 AC/DC albums—naturally behind “Back in Black” and perhaps also behind “The Razor's Edge.” Still, a legendary record!
Grote classic, helemaal top
Muy bueno, el disco
Rock
I consider myself an ACDC fan but don’t find I reach for them often, but this is worth the grab. Definitely a must listen imho, loads of songs that weren’t known to me that I’ve added to my liked songs playlist. Definitely a bit of fun.
Old good staff
to,to
This is one of those albums where people are like "Highway to Hell" is a good song, but I've heard it a zillion times. Just give this album a listen. There are so many incredible songs that aren't played to death that fucking slay. If you don't like AC/DC I don't like you.
Never listened to AC/DC before, loved the vocals and everything. Rock and roll bread and butter I think probably
muy bueno
This is one kick ass record! Chuck full of riffs, killer solos, thumbing rhythm & of course there's Bon in full swagger. His performance on this record is incredible. His voice & the way he delivers the lines is just awesome.
Min favoritt AC-plate. RIP Bon Scott. Det burde ikke stoppa her.
Badass.
This album rules. Every song kicks ass. I fucking love AC/DC.
One of the best rock albums ever made. It takes be back to a much better time in my younger days. Loved listening to this great music.
yeah i like it
Amazing album, electric, a classic! I love AC/DC :)
Classic
“It came from the back of my sister’s sewing machine. It just means power.”
One of best albums by one of the greatest Rock’n’Roll bands = 5 stars
Good songs
It's straight forward ACDC... 5 stars.
Hard to hate this album. Is it ground breaking? No. Do they do anything that moves blues based rock to another level or turn it into something it wasnt before? No. Does everyone in the band do what they do really fucking well to the point it is an instantly recognisable sound? Yes. Deceptively simple across the board - straight rock beat and locked in bass playing along with infectious riffs, a ridiculously good rythm guitar and a lead guitar that just hits the right notes not in a click track but at the right time. The singer wasnt built for ballads but the swagger and rock feel is spot on. The recording is even across the band, nothing stands out and all blends to an incredible whole. For a band that is often known for their guitarist, its an amazing band effort.
Highway To Hell shines brightly in the AC/DC catalogue as the only album pairing classic (and better) frontman Bon Scott with the precision production of Mutt Lange. It'd be easy to deride the change as being commercially driven rather than artistic, but Lange's production is incredibly sharp -- introducing tight backing vocals, subtle flourishes, and just enough polish to elevate the songs without stripping away the band's grit. It’s also one of their most consistent records. There are some obvious highpoints and lowpoints sure, but I'd argue there isn't a particularly weak track. Bon's vocals were never better. Malcolm's rhythm guitar is precise and relentless. And the clarity and separation of the mix does wonders. It has the punch and clarity AC/DC really needed at this point. And while they get a lot of shit for all songs sounding the same, and there's plenty of textbook AC/DC here ("Highway to Hell", "Shot Down in Flames", "If You Want Blood"), there is a decent amount of genuine variation for an AC/DC record. "Touch Too Much" almost feels like a blueprint for ’80s hair metal, "Night Prowler" leans into a slower, bluesier mood, and even "Walk All Over You" plays with the trademark sound a bit more than you expect. The fact that they ridiculous put out *another*, even bigger classic album with a different frontman less than a year later is goddamn ridiculous, but this one stands proudly on its own merits.
5/5
Killer
I mean this album is a CLASSIC. It is just so good. The riffs are great, the solos are fun, vocals are strong...this is just classic arena rock. There really isn't a bad song here. Liked Songs: The whole album, but "Get It Hot" is my "least favorite"
AC/DC is the Best of Breed of a type of music I usually don’t go out of my way to listen to, but it feels criminal to give this album anything short of a 5.
A great pick-me-up for days you want to get some pep back in your step, and power in your stride 😄
I don’t even know if I need to listen again with amount of times I’ve listed to this record. I was just going to skip listening and give this five stars, but I played it anyway. I forgot how great this record was. To think this was Bon’s last record and then the next one with a new singer was an even bigger hit. This album just keeps better. I can’t get over all the songs that I forgot were on this album.
A lot of 1970s hard rock / metal on this list falls very flat for me, particularly deep cuts. This one gets hard and stays hard.
they released this album before and after, multiple times. still a solid experience 5/5
“Somewhere a clock strikes midnight And there's a full moon in the sky You hear a dog bark in the distance You hear someone's baby cry” One of those albums that to the uninitiated is defined almost entirely by the title track but there is so much more to enjoy than that. It is a near perfect summation of AC/DC’s sound. Fast, simple, and exhilarating it doesn’t let up for the full run time and gifts us some of their best songs. “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)”, “Girl’s Got Rhythm”, and “Shot Down in Flames” are all classics and “Night Prowler” might be my favourite AC/DC track. Somewhat heretically to Rock purists I do prefer “Back In Black” although it is very close. There is no doubt in my mind that this album will continue to stand the test of time and that for many AC/DC will continue to be the standard for Hard Rock music.
This is an instant 5/5. If you rate this anything else, you're on a highway to hell yourself.
Good name for an electrical company. They make good music too. Steven has a clever name for it too.
AC/DC rocks! This album came out by senior year in high school. It was a big hit.
hot damn this is a classic for good and for bad
A real classic
Perfect! I like it!
:)
It’s AC⚡️DC… With Bon Scott no less. Just banger after banger
Maybe their best?
Top notch out the top drawer.
I loooove Touch too much
perhaps this is repetitive, but at least what's getting repeated is straight gasoline.
This was recorded around the time legendary frontman Bon Scott was drinking himself to death and their first with heavyweight rock producer Mutt Lange, signalling a more polished sound. Iconic opening title track sets the standard and it keeps the same rhythm throughout, closing particularly strong with Love Hungry Man and Night Prowler. Straight up unapologetic rock n roll, nothing to think too hard about. But they did it as well as anybody. Let's face it, most AC/DC albums sound the same - certainly from this point onwards, but this and Back in Black are their best.
Legendary
Highway to hell alone makes this a 5 star album. Such fun. Favorite track: highway to hell other picks: girls got rhythm, touch too much, if you want blood
Your songs are allowed to sound the same if each of them have an Angus Young solo in them
I get dad's hype, very good, nothing rubbed me the wrong way at all
Such a classic, a much easier listen than I expected
To my mind, there needs to be more Metal on this list so this was a blast. The energy of the first track alone can move mountains; even an elderly person mowing their flower bed will dig that trowel a little harder and a little faster listening to this absolute opus. And to think, it isn’t just strong guitars and lots of growling going on here, the melodies are interesting too. I just love it
Obra prima do rock and roll!
Im a rock chick I throw shit around
When I learned that music was meant to be listened to through entire albums, this was one of the first albums I listened to from beginning to end... the feeling is still the same, it never gets old. 5 stars.
Antichrist/Devil's child is really good.
He disfrutado mucho “Shot Down In Flames”, “Get It Hot”, “Girls Got Rhythm”, además de “Highway To Hell”.
Oh hell yeah!!!!! I'm on the Highway to Hell!!!!
Classic
One of the best rock albums of all time.
Top!
Heel leuk album
Not entirely perfect but pretty close to it 4.5*
The most underrated drummer in rock. Just brilliant. I don't know why i love acdc so much but I love them
Iconic
Ein richtig geiles Hard Rock Album
One should never, ever go into an AC/DC album expecting nuance, poetry, and Patti Smith level songwriting. Who needs that with killer vocals, sick riffs, and an album that you can bang your head to from beginning to end? Favorite Track: "Night Prowler".
Absolute classic. Give me a beer, give me another beer, give me a hell yeah. My first 5
Tremendo disco.
🥞
Great album! Haven't listened to it for years. Really enjoyed it!
You know what you’re going to get with these boys!
like it. my fav: touch too much, night prowler
Muito legal
Perfect in every way
Super hot fire! Good god yesssssssssssssssssssss. This is the kind of album that puts many of the records included on this list to shame. AC/DC stands the test of time as the essence of energy and the key to the soul. When they started their formula was simple: Punch you square in the eye without remorse. 50+ years later, the formula is simple: Punch you square in the eye without remorse. Likely the greatest hard rock band to ever walk earth, an unchanging fact for the rest of time. Get this on and listen to it LOUD. If you don't understand a bit more about the important things in life after you give this at broken headphone volume, hang up the cleats early. Absolute powerhouse, 10/10 without hesitation
It's pretty damn good. I know Highway to Hell is the classic song, but Beating Around the Bush might be my favorite. I think the back half isn't quite as good as the front half, but this album is top tier.
Leather jacket speeding down the highway classic rock!!!!!
Highway to Hell is an undoubtedly classic album. There is no shock when saying that everyone has heard this album. A culturally important phenomenon with some of the best and most iconic AC/DC sounds. Highway to hell has been featured in many movies, media, and will continue to be as long as rock is alive. Some of my stand-outs were Beating around the Bush and Shot down in Flames.
What can I say. A classic rock album with a lot of bangers.
I mean...its ACDC...good 'ol rock and roll, good sound, bit of nice screaming, good vibes.
I was gonna put onto he byrds today but it was raining and I didn't want to be miserable. So I put this on... And boy what a great decision. I heard this album a bunch but never fully indulged in it. It is great. A bit formulaic perhaps with the often utilised chorus gang vocal, but the grooves behind each track just make everything so much fun I don't care. There are stand out tracks like highway and if you want blood (thanks to empire records for my introduction to that masterpiece), but nothing here lets the side down. Nothing takes you out of the moment. I loved some of the rhythmic interplay between the guitars on touch too much. Beating around the bush reminds me of oh well by Fleetwood Mac, and they hit a status quo style stride with get it hot. I've always thought I preferred Johnson to bon Scott, but I don't know anymore, they both have a swagger that pulls you through the riffs and neither take themselves too seriously. Brilliant.
Yeah it's fine
I loved this one! Super fun to hear this album and to hear the transition in their sound.
Already 5 stars to counter the clueless haters here, wannabe critics.
Tight sound. AC/DC at its perfection.
Such a great but simple riff o start any album - then the drums kick in before Bon Scot’s gravelly voice melds it all together. Don’t need reason Don’t need Rhyme This is a great album. Everything from the brilliant album cover to the last chord oozes class
Another solid classic.
Are you kidding me?
Labai chill
i’m no music critic, but this album is badass
8/10
The kind of music that makes you want to crack a beer and cheers it in the sky to no one in particular. This album makes me want to spin shitties in a field and cause mild public destruction. Rock n fucking roll. 🤘
I’ve heard this so many times over the years its no longer fresh. One of the first bands I saw live was AC/DC, and they rocked. Hell of a show. On this listen I was thinking only a 3-4, but I ought to give them a 5.
First time listening to AC/DC and I liked it a lot more than I thought I would 🎉🥹
It’s just one of the classic albums
Any AC/DC album with Bon Scott is a 5 Star Album!
Own this one. A banger
Fuck yeh part II
This was good!
Perfekt timing 🎯 enkel, men god energi
Bon Scott AC/DC > Brian Johnson AC/DC
Gritty, dirty, rude, awesome. AC/DC gets guff for 'writing the same song over and over.' Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, mate.
Not much to say. This album and band speak for itself. Perfectly crafted rock and roll music.
Classic AC/DC. Great album with great music.
Classic Bon Scott at his best.
Giving AC/DC a perpetual 5 for being the undisputed champions of the rock riff! 5
Great shit I love me some AC/DC🔥🔥🔥🔥
Excellent.
\m/
What can I say about this that hasn't been said? it's full of some of the young Brothers best riffs, Brian Johnsons amazing screams, and a pounding rhythm section. There are tons of catchy choruses and raw solos. Favorite songs: Hells Bells, Let Me Put My Love Into You, You Shook Me All Night Long, Shoot to Thrill.
Heaks muusikaks pole palju vaja, lihtsuses ju peitub võlu.
100% rock'n roll! Great album!
Awesome! Classic ..
Excellent and iconic!
Good stuff. Very textured all the way through. This album rocks for sure. 4.5 outta 5
An absolute classic and a banger from top to bottom. Easy 5 star album.
Classic hook-based power blues hard rock!
Pre: text book classic hard rock Post: A touch not too much
YESSSSSS
Magnifique
High voltage rock ‘n’ roll.
Fuck it - 5 stars, no notes 5 ⭐️
Yeah... It's one of the greatest rock albums of all time. I forgot what a good sounding album this is. The songs speak for themselves as far as quality goes. It may not reach the heights of Back In Black (rare are the albums that do), but it's a 5/5 nonetheless
Amazing album, wall-to-wall bangers!
I'll been listening to this one for a very long time. Pretty much a perfect hard rock album and my favorite AC/DC. Bon Scott was the man.
I don't know if in the history of rock that a band has put out back to back classics with different singers like AC/DC did with this one and the follow-up, Back in Black. This was one helluva a way for Bon Scott to go out. 4.5/5 #204
Yep.
I fucking love AC/DC.
Classic AC/DC
AC/DC with Bon Scott! Just the best.
Dissa går ikke rundt grøten! Full av hits og klassikere. Holder en knapp på Girls Got Rythm!
A masterclass in blues influenced rock about the bands admiration of the opposite sex, as well as the bands proclivity towards making bad decisions. I use these guitar tones as a template to this day for my guitar performing. A lot of gems are sprinkled throughout that don't get massively overplayed on the air waves as well. Worth a repeated listen for sure.
Banger banger banger, a lot of ripper tracks I hadn’t heard before
does every AC/DC song sound the exact same yes, do I like every single one also yes
Rock & Roll!
A classic, I really enjoyed this album. It was such a fun listen
Top 25
Am watching Neil Young in mere minutes and can’t find the vocabulary to describe AC/DC; it’s like trying to argue a pub. An exemplary record that peaks on the first song, though I could make that argument for about half of the rest (the cheeky homage to Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well” on “Beating Around The Bush” delights me), it’s a sort of mastery, canon, really quite drunken.
I love AC/DC like a fat kid loves cake
Alright! Some AC/DC! I can get down with this! I didn't know this came out on my birth year! Makes this album 46 yrs old. Crazy. I really liked this album. 5 stars.
One of their best.
Excellent morning pump up album!!!
AC/DC at their best.
Bon Scott, you legend. Probably still rocking out in heaven after releasing his final album, Highway to Hell. AC/DC has a tendency to be categorized as a band where every song sounds the same. I’m here to tell you that is 100%, categorically… true. Ok, it’s true. They’re all really similar, BUT it’s all the same banger song. I deduct points sometimes when that happens, but this is one of the exceptions to my rule. Of my favorites, the title track, “Highway to Hell” does stand out the most. Bonus points for being one of my favorite album covers of all time as well. It’s an absolute classic. Now, I’m going to rate this a 5, but I’m curious what I would rate this had I rolled Back In Black first, as obviously it has a new singer. Regardless, this is likely going to be one of the next bands joining my Favorite Artists at the top of my profile, and deservingly so.
The best thing about albums from this era is that you only have about 40 minutes to work with. That means you either put all the great songs on there and push it to the max, or you put the best on there and don't overstay your welcome. That is not to say that Highway to Hell overstays its welcome, quite the opposite. I wish there were more of this. I want more songs just like this like a great heavy rock album for the ages.
Even with overfamiliarity, this is undeniably one of the great rock albums. So good it has allowed AC/DC to remain popular despite decades of mediocrity.
Never listened to a whole ACDC albumbefore and what an experience! The whole album is great, energetic with great guitars and impossible not to feel the urge to dance. . The album is really cohesive as well. Easy 5/5
they are def on the highway to hell
First rock album I owned, and one that I still listen to today.
one of ac/dc's most iconic albums and the last album with bon scott performing vocals. it's labeled as blues rock in some circles but i really feel like i would classify this as classic metal music. these men take you on a one-way train right straight to the eternal pits of hell, where the flames burn for miles, demons play around and smokin' hot babes keep you company. it's full of energy, and you can physically feel the forces from deep within the earth's core making you bang your head. it's slammin' rock music that makes you feel alive. and it feels really damn good to be alive. woooooooooo!!!
This is the first “hard” rock album I bought and only the second band I saw live as I was lucky enough to catch them on the tour at the tender age of 13! I absolutely played in to death, bought all their back catalogue and wanted to be Angus! This is really the last proper AC/DC album even though Back in Black is pretty good they lost a bit of their swagger and most of their tongue in cheek humour when Bon died. I lost interest in them after that.
Hell yeah. This rocks!
Awesome
That s it!!!!
Hig
Exceptional album!
Hell yeah
Can I say I like AC/DC better with Brian Johnson as lead singer? I love Bon Scott and his unique vocals, but the band really hit their stride under Johnson. Ok, now that I have that out of the way, I love AC/DC. Their stuff, especially from this era, lets me retreat into being a hormone crazed high schooler with nothing to do and tons of time to do it. This music was the backing track to all of that. Good times.
Did I rock out you ask? Of course I did. It would be rude not too.
Hell yeah
not exactly "intelligent" music but ac/dc is one of the easiest ways to cure depression (for me at least.) leaves a big goofy smile on my face. yeah, their songs all sound the same, but at least that sound is really good. they're popular for a reason. favorite song: "touch too much" overall: 9/10
I mean, AC/DC!
When “Girls got Rhythm” is arguably the weakest track on the record, that tells you every song is a banger. I love this record. The pinnacle of the Bon Scot era. Bon had a very mischievous nature and smugness to his swagger that was a unique style of his own. This contrast with the Brian era is most evident in songs like “Touch too much”, “walk all over you” and “Night Prowler”. The most underrated song on the album and for the band in general may just be “Beating around the Bush”. Nothing less than a full boat of stars.
I was gonna hold back on this one based on the obvious top rating of the next album. But then I shot that down in flames and realized you really have to treat AC/DC in two chapters: the Bon era and the Brian era. And when you do that, this powerhouse album shows the band firing on all cylinders at the height of Bon’s time. Let there be rock indeed!
To quibble that all their songs sound the same is useless because, that's almost the point!
Excellent album by an excellent band.
Great, rockin
Great.
I grew up with AC/DC. They were not a huge favourite of mine, not as sophisticated as Deep Purple or some of the other bands I followed, but they were always on the ghetto blaster of the gang I ran with. A few years later I realised that there was much more to AC/DC than I had given credit for. I knew all the albums, at least up until Back in Black, but I had never really listened to the song construction, had mistaken simplicity for simple. Yes, AC/DC do one thing, but they do it incredibly well and the songs don't all sound the same. Highway to Hell may well be my favourite. Powerage runs it close but lacks Mutt Lange's wonderfully clear production. Back in Black is a classic but lack's Bon Scott's roguishness and presence. There is not a bad track on the album. "Highway to Hell", the song, captures everything that was great about AC/DC in the late '70s - the four to the floor kick drums and clear snare, the rounded open bass tone, Malcolm Young's deceptively simple open chord riffs, Angus's stabs over the top and his bluesy soloing, and Bon's winking lascivious growling - he's going to hell but hell ain't a bad place to be (as someone said...) "Girls got Rhythm", "Walk All Over You", "Touch Too Much", "Beating Round the Bush", "Shot down In Flames", I could list them all, all variations on a theme, but a great theme. This is Bon's album for me, and not just because it was his last. His sense of humour is all over the lyrics and he delivers them knowingly, with a smirk. As great as Back In Black is, it has always struck me as slightly odd how quickly after Bon's death it was completed. But perhaps he would have wanted that... Shazbot. Nanu Nanu!
Rock.
Touch too much, meilleur chanson. If you want blood, délicieux
This is a very silly album and I think it’s great.
Perfect for driving rig in traffic
Favorite songs: Shot Down in Flames, Walk All Over You, Girls Got Rhythm, If You Want Blood (You've Got It), Highway to Hell, Touch Too Much, Beating Around the Bush, Night Prowler Least favorite songs: if forced to pick, Get It Hot 5/5
YES
Wore out a cassette in the 80s with this!
Absolute classic
Two-word review: Fuck yeah!
Real ones
This is the 136th album I’m rating. I had a different project before this one but I messed up my settings so I had to make a new one, and the album was this. Adding to my Playlist - Highway to Hell, Girls got Rhythm, Walk All Over You, Touch too Much, Beating Around the Bush, Shot Down in Flames, Get it Hot, If You Want Blood, Love Hungry Man, and Night Prowler. Not Adding to my Playlist - Nothing. Highway to Hell - A classic rock song that never gets old that I guess I forgot to add. All in all I liked 10/10 songs. AC/DC is really really good. Others bands like Led Zeppelin disappointed after learning that they're really just singles bands but AC/DC is good all the way through.
This is more like it. Now, the big criticism can be summed up in this apocryphal story of a reporter asking Angus young how he responded to criticism they’d done the same album 13 times. Angus bristles and says ‘we’ve done 14 albums. ' And while that is not unfair, it doesn’t really grasp that that is what makes ac/dc great. An incredible consistency over 50 years. The band rocks. And rolls. Angus is one of the great rock guitarists. Malcolm is the metronome. As great as Phil Rudd is, ac/dc, like the Who and Metallica is driven, not by the drums, but by the rhythm guitar. Cliff young can’t be described as flashy, but solid. And Bon. He could scream, he could growl, he could plead. He could sing, man. All ac dc albums are 50 billion stars. Some are better than others. I’d have dirty deeds on this list rather than this one, because dirty deeds and jailbreak should be the national anthem and national song. I think it was Australian band frenzal rhomb who said we’d drink paint for acca Dacca. Fair dinkum we would. Here’s some more of my thoughts https://www.toppermost.co.uk/acdc/
Nice album, full of popular song
rocanrol
classic AC/DC...... being tough, having women, 3 chords.
Excellent.
Before listening to this album, I'd never heard an AC/DC song I didn't like. But obviously there's some selection bias going on, since I was only familiar with their biggest hits. It turns out, they really are just that good. As soon as the guitars kick in, you can't help but smile. The rhythm section is the probably the best of any rock band ever. The energy on these songs is so infectious - it really feels like everybody involved was having a blast. And even though all their songs are basically the same, somehow it never gets old. With some albums on this list, I listen and then spend time deliberating over whether it deserves 4 stars or 5. I think this is my first 5 star album in a while, and it's made me realise that when I'm on the fence, the answer should always be 4. Because when you know, you know. Rock on
Just solid rock. Perfectly is what it's supposed to be.
Super fun, never heard any of the tracks besides the title. I had a great time working out to this.
I'm going for this over BIB as the ultimate AC/DC album. Monster singles, quality throughout and I think Bon gives them an edge that Brian, thoroughly nice chap, doesn't have. Also the last album where there's a trace of the blues roll of their early years.
Hell ya. This is it. Classic Aussie Rock
10
Got this on a Friday, and you just can’t be mad about AC/DC on a Friday.
I only got into AC/DC late in life. Without having studied their music, I found them to be a kind of cheap hard rock. I always thought a few songs were great, but overall I didn't understand the euphoria about the band and their music. Now I've listened to one of their albums in its entirety. And I really enjoyed it. The sound is great, a great soundtrack to a road movie. I'll definitely listen to it more often. 5/5
Top shelf stuff
Rude, raw, brash, in-your-face in the best way possible! Even a little on the nose at times - but so, so cool. I love their classic rock sound. 87/100 --> 90/100.
What a fantastic album. It's one of the best of the list. I mean, you just have to listen to the opening title track, no, you just have to listen to the intro of the opening track. How great can music be? It's the added value of Mutt Lange's production that gives this album so much more than its predecessors. Most characteristic are the backing vocals choirs. Those are magnificent. And this album has one of the greatest songs ever: 'Touch too much'. It hardly has any flaws, every track is enjoyable. Can I give 6 stars? 10/10
The perfect rock album. Ever.
Touch too much makes this the perfect album by the rock by numbers masters.
Hard rock with commercial oomph.
A classic
5/5
Liked this way more than I expected. Not a huge fan of Brian Johnson’s voice - coupled with the sing-along-shouty choruses, always sounded kind of gimmicky. But then I this listen through I realized The Japandroids follow pretty much this exact formula and I’ve always loved their stuff. In both of these bands, every guitar riff is so simple and in your face. That early Japandroids album is called “Celebration Rock” which I think is a nice name for the genre AC/DC forged here - songs that make you want to slam some beers and stay out at the late night bars shouting rock and roll songs. Tell the babysitter it’s going to be a late night.
Quintessential hard rock. Every song is a banger. Makes you wanna drive drunk.
Easy 5 stars
A classic
🤘🏼
I really liked how dumb in your face metal this is, it has a few luls but overall I headbanged my way through a Friday and it was glorious
Hell yeah!
Another great AC/DC album packed full of raw energy and power that is waiting to be enjoyed.
Heavy! Duty! Heavy Duty! Rock n Roll! And I had no idea this album ended with a Mork from Ork shoutout.
Inject this into my veins please, 2 good songs. High 5.
Badass rock and roll, hell yeah.
Bon Scott.
If you need to give this a second listen to rate this, you don't get it at all.
Holy hell. An absolute banger of a classic album.
Rock On!
One of the last great AC/DC albums. All killer, no filler.
I know all songs sound the same, but that only means they are all fantastic. It's just energising and firey
yes
One of the best pound for pound, song for song, 70's hard rock albums. Easily stands the test of time and is a generational album. There's no college kid who doesn't know all the words to the title track whether they're into AC/DC or not. It's hard rock with a melody and easy to sing along to. The title track, along with "Girls Got Rhythm", "Touch Too Much", "Shot Down In Flames", "If You Want Blood", "Love Hungry Man', & "Night Prowler" are all fringe greatest hits from one of the best and most listened to bands of all time. The only weak song on the album is "Beating Around The Bush" but it's still a good track! No track has under 14M listens, the title track is near at 1B listens, "If You Want Blood" is over 100M. No denying the popularity, longevity and influence this album has had. This is one of their seminal albums and one of the Top 25 classic rock albums of all time. Deserves a spot on the T1001 for sure. 4.5 Stars for me
