Oh I’ve been waiting for this one. It’s about time we got a classic, amazing rock album. Hit after hit.
Me at age 10 in the front seat of our new-ish station wagon accompanying my mom on some errands ... she goes into a store I wanted no part of and I was more than content to stay in the car and fiddle with the new radio. I remember exactly where the car was when I first heard these opening chords. I turned it up. And then up again at the chorus. By the time mom got back to the car I was into the 2nd chorus and feeling just a little weird about singing the words "I'm on a highway to hell...!" having been dragged to church every week and made to feel lousy about everything including some fantasy-land called hell (which turned out to be real, just that hell is actually the checkout line in a metropolitan Costco) but not nearly enough to stop. Anyways - mom was apoplectic not about the lyrics but the volume which she could apparently hear from inside the store. Buzzkill. TL;DR: Gloriously dumb ("the body of Venus with arms" LOLOLOLOL) fun and if you're not smiling after those initial A power chords then it's never gonna happen and I feel sorry for you that you hate fun. Shazbat! Nanu nanu.... R.I.P. Bon. 10/10 5 stars.
You either love AC/DC or you’re like my friend Nathan and loathe them. If you love them, then you need to decide are you a Bon Scott or Brian Johnson fan. Loved this album. Love AC/DC and love Bon Scott. Grimy riffs. Good Tempo. Fun album all around Might have to go to the shop and get a sausage roll now!
The Good: We are going on a roadtrip! The Bad: Destination is hell... The Ugly: We packed for a ski trip... My wife has the title song as her ringtone, needless ti say I am familiar. However, I had forgotten about the other songs, and what a lovely trip this has been. I agree with many who state that Touch Too Much is the best track in the album, however, too many great songs IMHO Easy 5*
That was one hell of an album
Actually had a lot of fun with this
Yep that's AC/DC
It's nice to hear a hard rock song that references "Beating Around the Bush" instead of singing about a 14 year old girl for once. A requirement of receiving my Australian citizenship was either swearing allegiance over either a copy of this or performing the ceremonial wash of Gina Rhinehart with a rag on a stick. I opted for the former. So expect a biased review as result. Christ this is a horrendous album cover for such a great album. I've actually never listened to anything except for the lead track (mandatory Australian listening), so what a treat every other song on this record was. As far as alcoholic dad hard-rock goes, this is genuinely the best album I've heard from end to end. I didn't lost interest at any point, the guitarwork was spot on with some mental solos, and Bon Scott's voice was nothing short of phenomenal. It's just a shame he died behind the wheel of a stationary car, as we booze cruisers know it's always best to go out in a high speed alcohol fuelled crash. Oh well. I genuinely don't know what song on this is my favourite, they all had me hooked, and I honestly think they were all of top notch quality and tone - except Highway to Hell of course; that song has been played to death at pretty, where you hear it like 10 times a night at any Australian sport venue. This far exceeded my expectations, I genuinely thought this was going to be an album of filler right after Highway to Hell, but there's an enormous amount of substance and great music in here. Will definitely be revisiting in the future after the next 15 Britpop or pedo-rock bands that I will inevitably be faced with post this.
If you want blood, you've fucking well got it. Far and away AC/DC's best album, this is a band at the top of their rock and roll game. Dripping with sweat, swaggering all over the place, charming and violent, this album has character by the can-full. I love everything about it - Malcolm's riffs, Angus' solos, the hard-hitting rhythm section and Bon Scott just being Bon fucking Scott. Bloody hell does this album give me energy! Favourite Tracks: the whole bloody album, as loud as possible. But especially Highway To Hell, Night Prowler and If You Want Blood
Magic
Epic
Solid guitar riffs all over! Awesome
A great album. Missing some of the really heavy hitters that AC/DC is beloved for, but a lot of the middle tier stuff that still gets the vibes up high. They're a classic for me.
Classic. Brilliant. Better than 'Back In Black'? About the same. Bon Scott definitely was a better frontman though. Easy 5.
Excellent
Still sounds great
A classic ACDC album I enjoy. Didn't think I would but it really grew on me.
Un album titanesque, au coeur de l'âge d'or du groupe. Le pire, c'est que c'est même pas le meilleur album d'AC/DC.
Pretty classic Album! I am on my third listen-through! It's easy listening.
Dit blijft echt een dijk van een plaat. Knaller.
Wykurwiste. Dużo lepsza płyta niż myślałem. Same bangery. 5/5
Bon Scott's ACDC for me is the authentic sound of the group. Really enjoyed listening to this and there is a raw edge to Scott's voice that drives the album forward. With this being his last album means its 5 stars from me.
Gud shid
I used to listen It in my youth
It's AC/DC, and one of their earlier albums. Raucous, loud, awesome.
A really good one
All time great album. So many hits. Just doesn't stop. It's simple, but it just hits all the right notes.
To quote the great Robert California "Everything is sex" I'm in between 4 and 5 stars on this one. ACDC did a masterful job of balancing the rock and roll formula. High octane vocals, repetitive and memorable lyrics, simple drum line, most songs peak with a guitar solo. Along with the Back in Black album this is easily their best work. Most of the songs really hit. Some are just so so. I think objectively this album is a 4 but I used to be obsessed with ACDC in my teenage years so nostalgia is going to give it a little lift.
Classic album
They might be a one trick pony but they do it better than anybody.
AC/DC has never been a terribly complicated band. They make rock n' roll — in fact, all they do is make rock n' roll. It's not something they're unaware of, nor ashamed of. You might've seen a quote floating around: "I'm sick to death of people saying we've made 11 albums that sound exactly the same. In fact, we've made 12 albums that sound exactly the same." To some people — heck, to a lot of people, really — this is a huge issue. Like, why would a band do that, just make the same music over and over again? Why would anyone need to listen to more than one album from this group? Heck, more than a small handful of songs, if it's really true all the albums sound alike. Here's the thing, though: AC/DC are good at what they do. They're **really** good at what they do. Regardless of what song or album you're listening to, this hard and fast rock and blues stuff kicks so, so, **so** much ass. That's what's kept them around and as popular as they have been for so many years. It's that you know exactly what you're getting into when you put on an AC/DC album: badass rock music and a good time — no more, no less. It being so simple is the point. In fact, I'd smack down the line that they're repetitive and say that they're more **incredible consistent**. Like, sure, some albums do the sound and formula better than others, but you'd hardly go wrong picking one over the other. In that regard, I've always compared them to Motörhead, another band who makes badass rock n' roll and could be accused of making the same album 20 times. (And for real, like you don't get a kick out of this album's title track, or BACK IN BLACK's title track, or LET THERE BE ROCK's title track, or FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK WE SALUTE YOU's title track, or "Thunderstruck", or "It's A Long Way To The Top", or T.N.T.'s title track... A lot of their title tracks are very popular.) But anyway, that's enough a defense of AC/DC as a group and their sound. What about this album specifically? What makes it so notable it ends up on a list like this, and even 200 on the 2012 Rolling Stone 500? I mean, jeez, it's ranked one spot better than THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL. What's it got goin' for it? Well, of course there's the unfortunate historical context: that this was Bon Scott's last AC/DC album before he passed away tragically young. Seriously, he was only 33 at the time. Just tragic. And while, yes, in a literal sense he was replaceable; AC/DC would soldier on with Brian Johnson... Let's not kid ourselves: Bon Scott was one of a kind. AC/DC would never again sound exactly the same without him, even as much as I do love Brian Johnson and his goblin voice. I mean, I'm not gonna like I've always been a #1 Bon Scott believer; like most other people, I was introduced to Brian Johnson-led hits first. Plus, don't mistake me, I'd never wanna nudge too close to people who're really obnoxious about Paul Di'Anno being a better singer than Bruce Dickinson. That's an annoying realm to exist in. But all the same, y'know, it's an undeniable fact. Johnson's great, but Scott's voice is just way more "hard rock party good times," and, y'know, that's what AC/DC is, at its core. And to that end, the other reason why HIGHWAY TO HELL is here is that it's simply the best the band would ever sound with Bon Scott fronting it. No disrespect to the albums that came before this, particularly LET THERE BE ROCK, but it's like I said: some albums do their sound and formula better than others. And goodness me, does this one ever. Like, there's not even anything I can particularly say that you can't gather just listening to the music. You can hear Angus Young's wild solos. You can hear Malcolm Young keeping the riff's consistent. You can hear Cliff Williams's bass grooving along. You can hear Phil Rudd's locksteady drums keeping it all in place. This is the kind of music where you turn your stereo up to 11 and just rock the hell out. And if you're lookin' for deep cuts beyond the title track, well, I think "Love Hungry Man" is really good. Reminds me of KISS, actually (and I mean that in the best way; I do like KISS a lot). Angus says it's their worst record, and,'ey, I'm gonna say it's their best, but "worst?" Even "bad?" No way. Well, that was a lot more words about AC/DC than I think I was expecting to say — and at this point, I don't think I have any left that wouldn't just be repeating myself. That's gonna make it real fun when my group gets around to covering BACK IN BLACK, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and just close shop on this one. It's a 5, and it's not purely an uncritical one. It's AC/DC at the top of their game, and it's a game I'm more than happy to see them keep replaying. Like, this album was never meant to be Bon Scott's last — in fact, they were working on BACK IN BLACK material right before they passed. I hear it's a hot debate topic whether he should be credited for lyrics or not. But with a few exceptions, no one gets to choose their last work, and as one... Well, I can't think of a better record for him to leave us with. I say this for you, Bon: "Shazbot. Nanu nanu." BWAMP.
AC/DC: The best to play the same song for over 50 years and counting. But in all seriousness, this is some killer hard rock from start to finish, so it's getting Solid 5 Stars from me.
I’m at a 10. Going into this, I knew Highway to Hell (and who doesn’t, let’s be honest), but my knowledge of AC/DC, besides some of the obvious super hits (TNT, Back in Black, For Those About To Rock, You Shook Me All Night Long, Thunderstruck, Shoot to Thrill), is rather limited. I imagine that’s the case for most people, but I’ve always wanted to take a little bit of a deeper dive. I was definitely expecting that most songs were gonna be similar, but hopefully, they would kick ass. They kicked ass, alright, and they blew me away in the process – normally, I might complain about repetition or whatever, but I’m willing to ignore it when the quality of every track is just that damn strong. It’s much easier to type about it when you’re in the flow state of listening to the album, but like… I dunno, I’ve never really felt more in sync with a band while listening to a rock album. I’ve hit similar states a handful of times (i.e. Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Bon Jovi, Led Zeppelin), but even then, this one felt different. Someone else may chalk that up to “well, it’s just Highway to Hell 10 times, of course you could predict it,” and maybe that’s true, to some degree. I just… it’s hard to put into words, but it felt sort of ethereal to me. This is my first time listening to a lot of these tracks, and there’s some insane standouts here that are criminally underplayed on Spotify, even if every track on the album has 13 million plays – “Touch Too Much” is fantastic, as is “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)”, but I think the most underrated one here is “Beating Around the Bush”. It has the second lowest plays on the album, but I thought it fucking ruled, especially with the Ram Jam-style back & forth call/response structure. I’m just a sucker for that sort of thing. I’d love to keep waxing poetic, but I’d just be circling the bases with praise – it’s an unbelievable album, and while the appeal may wear off over time, I think a lot of these tracks are gonna hit like a truck when they come on in shuffle, and I’ll appreciate them all over again. For now, I’m at a 10, and I’ve got no shame in that.
6 albums in and the lads are starting to perfect their no nonsense, ballsy rock. The songs are unapologetically tongue in cheek and fairly simple in structure, but they certainly do rock! There is little deviation but some more than hint at the blues influence going on. Probably a 4.5, but I am giving it 5! Tragic that this was Bon Scott’s last album. Whenever I think of Bon Scott, I can’t help but think of Spinal Tap: Derek Smalls: Its not very pleasant story…but uh, he died, uh he choked on uh, the official explanation was he choked on vomit… Nigel Tufnel: It was actually – it was actually someone else’s vomit…you know there’s no real… Derek Smalls: Well they can’t prove whose vomit it was…they don’t have the ability…there’s no way of… Nigel Tufnel: You can’t really dust for vomit… Too track: If you want blood….
There was only one hit here but who cares, this album ROCKS! AC/DC has a hard-driving formula that works and I was headbanging in approval! I enjoyed this album from front to back. 4.5/5
One of my all time favorites!
Awesome album, every song is great.
Absolute banger
Yes to this!!!! Best way to walk in to work way too early. A Rosie album :)
Didn't need to listen because I have listened to this more times than I can count. Great record!!
classic but one hit
good album
Pure unadulterated rock god bliss.
Amazing
Take me there
I grew up in the country, where driving on back roads and pounding beers while you do it (road loading!) is the main pass time. Lots of the best times of my life fall under that description, and AC/DC soundtracked them. IYKYK.
Straight good old rock and roll. An absolute banger.
This was so good I listened to it twice. Five stars.
Echt super nice
Hyped up riff frenzy Screeched and wailed at high volume Rock n roll attack
10/10. It's AC bloody DC!!! This album is one of the most important hard rock albums of all time! It is repetitive, but that doesn't matter, since it slaps so bloody hard! Hell, yeah! :)
I was a young Record Store Manager When this LP came out and we hosted an In-Store appearance by the band before their concert that evening! They were just a bunch of rowdy kids having a great time! What fun! I’ve got photos and autographs to prove it! This is a great Rock n Roll record!
Banger!
I know a lot of AC/DC songs sound the same but, honestly, this still slaps.
The kings of simplicity. I loved this album as a kid and it’s still great after some time away. The title track might be the best rock and roll song of all time. RIP Bon
Highway to Hell. It's good, classic rock. Enjoy it.
Really good!
This rules. Everything you think ACDC sounds like is in here. A powerful voice, combined with absolutely shredding instrumentals. 10/10.
Gran disco
very noice
I'm gonna do 2 reviews of this, one personal and one more critical but the personal will be what i will put down. I grew up on classic rock, highway to hell is one of the first songs i learned on guitar. So yeah... this will be a personal 5. A no-brainer and this 1001 list really shows that personal attachment is how people usually grade these albums. So onto the more detached and critical review! The cultural impact: if you say classic rock AC/DC is probably the first band that comes to mind. Most people have at least heard highway to hell and seen the logo whether they want or not. So it deserves a spot here i would say. Music wise i will say it lacks in variety and when they stray to much from high pulsed rock n roll they kind of fall flat (i feel night prowler and love hungry man are not the greatest on here). But when they do what they do best, it's great and catchy. It don't really challenge you musically more than having impressive solos. So it's main driving point is energy and easy listening. My detached score would probably be between 3 or 4 so say 3.5. it has a important place and reached allot of people but it don't challenge listeners which can be good in a sense, but i think bands like Pink Floyd is challenging while still inviting.
RIP Bon Scott. Legend. Also possibly AC/DC's best album. Yes, I said possibly. I know you're reading this Jeff.
Rippy
If Kiss was my gateway drug into hard rock and metal, AC/DC was the hook that kept me there. It was also nice to hear a record free of ballads. I actually heard this before “Back in Black” came out. It sucked that Bon Scott died so soon after this came out, but that only added to the band’s hard rocking/hard living reputation.
First AC/DC album I bought on CD. A classic album. No filler in this one. All grunt.
Can this album take less than five stars?
Great
Love this album. Have enjoyed acdc since I was a kid
Explodes like a bomb
A some cold classic. It feels like some of these songs have always existed. They are part of my DNA and it is hard to listen to them critically. Overall this might be one of their best balanced albums. Highway to Hell, Touch Too Much, If You Want Blood, Night Prowler and Girl’s Got Rhythm are the standouts. Basically all hits.
Classic album. This is AC DC at the height of their powers. Massively influential album, too.
Love this. Takes me back to 6th grade
Ready to run through a wall after listening to this. If you ever need an endorphin kick, just put this on and crank it.
Very nice classic rock album. Listening to it is like driving home from work on a Friday on a cool fall day with the windows down and no responsibilities and no cares in the world but just vibes
fun und fetzig!
okkkk
Class
Do you like songs with unique vocals? The album 'highway to hell'' by AC/DC might be the one for you! I think this album was one of the first Rock albums I ever heard it caught my attention mainly for the vocals, he has a raspy, low voice and it seems as if he had lost his voice the night before. It also caught my attention because of how Angus young played the guitar, its something about how his guitar sounds that I like and I still can't figure it out. In conclusion its a very good album and It's unique in its own ways. I would recommend this to literally anyone since its a good album you can listen in the background, if you like rock music of course.
have you ever been on a road trip and wanted to listen to something good or would make the trip more exciting well in my opinion highway to hell is good because when your on a road trip and makes it more exciting like when they put it on movies where the character could be on the road driving or is letting someone else drive it fits perfectly and makes me excited on what's next cause when the trip ends the either cut to it or show it which is great and makes me interested in the music and the movie this song always fits with cool scenes that happens in movies to like when a fight happens in the movie also the instruments used are pretty sick sounding and really makes the song better and my favorite part of it is when it says "I'm on a highway to hell." highway to hell is good and I would recommend listing to this because it makes trips exciting or any movie exciting
Did you know one of the songs is called Highway to hell and that is what their song's name is? I like the song Highway to Hell because I've heard it in a few movies so I know a lot of the words. I like the songs because I like the lyrics, and I like the singers voice. Also good to play in the background.
It's AC/DC what else is there to say
Pure rock and roll
A bag of known tracks with some great deep cuts.
4.5
5 estrelas!!!
Five seems like a stretch, but I love AC/DC
Awesome album, great sound balance and guitar, super solid
One of the OG albums.
Life doesn't get much better than listening to this album and playing the new wow expansion. Epic!
Killer.
A rock classic, and it's a legend for a reason. 'Highway to Hell' alone would be enough, but the hits just kept coming. Great sound paired with great guitar, and it's nothing but enjoyable.
all killer, no filler... geweldig album
THE best AC/DC album. Nothing against Brian Johnson, cuz he was perhaps the greatest replacement in musical history.
Sometimes it just has to be said that an album is an exceptionally well done example of a particular genre, and there are few people who have done Hard Rock better than AC/DC on Highway To Hell. This is good strutting music
Fuck yeah. Every fucking song on this album slaps.
The best opening song for an rock album ever. All songs are alike but all are awesome. This is a staple in any rock collection probably top 10 album ever. Very fresh amd different for the time.
**AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" (1979): An In-Depth Review** **Introduction** "Highway to Hell" is AC/DC's sixth studio album and marks a pivotal moment in the band’s career. Released on July 27, 1979, it was the last album to feature lead vocalist Bon Scott before his tragic death in February 1980. The album is often hailed as a quintessential hard rock record, encapsulating the raw energy and rebellious spirit of the genre. Produced by Mutt Lange, who was known for his meticulous approach to production, "Highway to Hell" saw the band achieving both critical and commercial success, setting the stage for their next monumental release, "Back in Black." **Lyrics** The lyrics on "Highway to Hell" reflect the rock 'n' roll lifestyle with a mix of hedonism, defiance, and dark humor. Bon Scott's lyrical style is direct, often playful, and loaded with double entendres. The title track, "Highway to Hell," is an anthem of rebellion, encapsulating the band's attitude towards their grueling touring schedule and their penchant for living on the edge. The lyrics, "No stop signs, speed limit / Nobody's gonna slow me down," convey a sense of unstoppable momentum and a refusal to conform. "Girls Got Rhythm" celebrates the allure of rock and roll women, a common theme in AC/DC’s catalog, while "Shot Down in Flames" tells the story of rejection with a tongue-in-cheek bravado. "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" is another example of Scott’s ability to infuse violent imagery with a sense of swagger and humor, turning a phrase that might suggest gore into a declaration of the band’s commitment to giving their all on stage. However, beneath the surface of these party anthems lies a darker undercurrent. "Night Prowler," the closing track, is a slow, menacing song that builds an atmosphere of tension and danger. Although the song’s meaning has been subject to controversy, it exemplifies Scott's knack for storytelling and his ability to create vivid, unsettling images through lyrics. **Music** Musically, "Highway to Hell" is a culmination of AC/DC’s evolution from raw blues-based rock to a more polished and cohesive sound. The album is defined by its powerful riffs, tight rhythm section, and catchy, anthemic choruses. The title track "Highway to Hell" opens with one of the most iconic riffs in rock history, played by Angus Young. The simplicity of the riff, combined with its relentless drive, makes it instantly memorable. Malcolm Young's rhythm guitar work provides the backbone of the song, locking in perfectly with the solid, no-frills drumming of Phil Rudd and the pulsing bass of Cliff Williams. "Girls Got Rhythm" features a more upbeat and swinging groove, showcasing the band's ability to incorporate different rhythmic feels while maintaining their signature sound. The interplay between Angus and Malcolm Young's guitars is particularly effective here, with tight, interlocking riffs that create a propulsive energy. "Touch Too Much" is one of the most melodically driven tracks on the album, with a catchy chorus that hints at a more pop-oriented approach without sacrificing the band's hard edge. "Beating Around the Bush" is a high-octane rocker that highlights Angus Young’s guitar prowess, with rapid-fire riffs and blistering solos that are a staple of AC/DC’s style. The album's closer, "Night Prowler," is a departure from the high-energy rockers that precede it, slowing things down to a sinister crawl. The song's atmosphere is thick with tension, largely due to the ominous riff and Scott's eerie vocal delivery, creating a sense of impending doom. **Production** The production on "Highway to Hell" marked a significant shift for AC/DC. Mutt Lange, who was brought in to produce the album, pushed the band towards a cleaner, more polished sound compared to their earlier records. Lange’s meticulous approach to recording and his insistence on multiple takes resulted in an album that is sonically crisp and well-balanced. One of Lange’s major contributions was his emphasis on vocal harmonies and backing vocals, which are more prominent on "Highway to Hell" than on previous AC/DC albums. This can be heard on tracks like "Touch Too Much" and "Shot Down in Flames," where the choruses are bolstered by layers of harmonized vocals, adding a new dimension to the band’s sound. The guitar tones on the album are sharp and cutting, with Angus Young’s lead guitar sitting prominently in the mix without overpowering the other elements. The rhythm section is tight and punchy, with Rudd’s drumming providing a solid foundation that drives the songs forward. Lange also ensured that the bass was clearly audible, giving the album a fuller sound compared to the band’s earlier, more raw recordings. However, some critics argue that the polished production took away some of the raw energy that characterized AC/DC’s previous albums. While the cleaner sound helped the band reach a wider audience, it also marked a departure from the rougher, more spontaneous feel of their earlier work. **Themes** Thematically, "Highway to Hell" explores the dichotomy of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle—the thrill of living on the edge and the inherent dangers that come with it. The album title itself suggests a journey towards self-destruction, a recurring theme in rock music that AC/DC tackles with both bravado and a sense of irony. Songs like "Highway to Hell" and "Shot Down in Flames" embody the band's rebellious spirit, celebrating the highs and lows of a life lived without constraints. The title track, in particular, has become an anthem of defiance, symbolizing a rejection of authority and an embrace of freedom, no matter the cost. On the other hand, tracks like "Night Prowler" delve into darker, more unsettling territory, reflecting the potential dangers lurking within this hedonistic lifestyle. The song's eerie atmosphere and ominous lyrics contrast sharply with the more upbeat, party-oriented tracks on the album, hinting at the darker side of the band's otherwise celebratory approach to rock 'n' roll. "Highway to Hell" also touches on themes of lust and desire, with songs like "Girls Got Rhythm" and "Touch Too Much" exploring the band's fascination with women and the sexual undertones that are a staple of rock music. While these themes are presented with a sense of humor and tongue-in-cheek bravado, they also reflect the band's unapologetic embrace of the excesses associated with their lifestyle. **Influence** "Highway to Hell" had a profound influence on the rock and metal scenes of the 1980s and beyond. The album’s combination of catchy, riff-driven songs and larger-than-life anthems set a template that countless bands would follow. AC/DC’s ability to blend raw power with a sense of melody and accessibility made "Highway to Hell" a crossover success, appealing to both hard rock fans and mainstream audiences. The title track has become one of AC/DC’s most enduring songs, covered by numerous artists across different genres and featured in countless films, commercials, and sporting events. The album's influence can be seen in the work of bands like Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, and Mötley Crüe, who have all cited AC/DC as a major influence on their music. The production style of "Highway to Hell" also left a lasting impact, particularly in the way it balanced raw power with commercial appeal. Mutt Lange’s work on this album set the stage for his future success with bands like Def Leppard, where he further refined the blend of hard rock and pop sensibilities. **Pros of "Highway to Hell"** 1. **Iconic Songs:** The album features some of AC/DC’s most recognizable tracks, including "Highway to Hell," which has become a rock anthem. 2. **Strong Musicianship:** The album showcases the band's tight musicianship, with standout performances from each member, particularly Angus Young’s guitar work and Bon Scott’s charismatic vocals. 3. **Cohesive Sound:** The production by Mutt Lange brings a level of polish and cohesiveness that enhances the overall impact of the songs, making them more accessible without losing their edge. 4. **Catchy and Memorable:** The album is filled with catchy riffs, memorable choruses, and infectious energy that makes it engaging from start to finish. 5. **Influential:** "Highway to Hell" has had a lasting impact on the rock genre, influencing countless bands and shaping the sound of rock and metal in the 1980s and beyond. **Cons of "Highway to Hell"** 1. **Polished Production:** While the production is often seen as a strength, some fans of the band’s earlier work may feel that the album is too polished, losing some of the raw energy that characterized AC/DC’s earlier albums. 2. **Lack of Diversity:** The album sticks closely to the band’s established formula of hard-hitting rock songs, with little variation in style or tempo. This can make the album feel somewhat repetitive, especially for listeners seeking more musical diversity. 3. **Lyrical Simplicity:** The lyrics, while effective for the genre, are often simplistic and focused on themes of rebellion, lust, and the rock 'n' roll lifestyle. This lack of depth may be a drawback for listeners looking for more complex or introspective lyrics. **Conclusion** "Highway to Hell" stands as a landmark album in AC/DC’s career and in the history of rock music. It captures the band at the peak of their powers, delivering a set of songs that are both powerful and accessible. The album’s combination of iconic riffs, memorable lyrics, and polished production helped AC/DC break through to a wider audience and set the stage for their future success. While some critics may point to the album's polished production and lyrical simplicity as potential drawbacks, these elements also contribute to its enduring appeal. "Highway to Hell" remains a defining moment in the band’s discography, encapsulating the spirit of rock 'n' roll in a way that few albums have. Its influence continues to resonate, making it a timeless classic that has earned its place in the pantheon of rock music.
Man that guy can bellow
Class act
Masterpiece of a rock album
Great album. Classic, definitely worth having in the collection
just all round a great alb0um
I would give this 4 1/2 stars, and this would be my favorite AC/DC album. Some has to do with it being Bon Scott’s last album. Another is the production by Mutt Lange. I use a couple of theses songs consistently as reference tracks when mixing rock. Maybe there could be more bass? Other than that, Lange’s techniques have been held close to the vest, and appreciate the production on such a great band and album.
Perfection. No better road trip album.
junouotitis
The Only Gig I have ever walked out of! AC/DC at the Rainbow....To be fair the only reason I was there was because ex Mott the Hoople members were supporting as the British Lions!
What's not to absolutely adore about this from start to finish.
5 stars. maybe 6.
Rock in its purest form!! Love the flippant, single-brain cell stylings of AC/DC, and Bon Scott is definitely my preferred lead singer (no disrespect to the might Brian Johnson). Lots of cool variety on this record for the limited instrumentation. Finally a good record for working out!
Straightforward, nothin’ but a good time rock ‘n’ roll. A fitting tribute for Bon Scott to bow out on.
fuggin classic. grew up heavy with ac/dc
5/5
I think even the biggest AC/DC fan would have to agree that a lot of their songs sound very similar. And yet, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? This album is hard rock from front to back with those trademark vocals, crunchy groovy guitars, and simple drums. It just works. I really enjoyed this. I’m not sure if I’ve ever disliked an AC/DC song, but then again they all sound the same so how could I?
Takes me right back to high school!
I won’t be Beating Around the Bush with this review.
One of the best albums ever made.
4.5. Not as good as Back In Black but it's still pretty good.
Oh yes, classic Aussie rock, can't beat it
Pure qua poco da dire, anche la copertina è meravigliosa.
Awesome. Cock rock I was not expecting to like at all.
Hof level guitar
Classic rock and roll recording. This has been a favorite of mine for many years. When it comes to AC/DC, I prefer the Bon Scott-era of the band. Not to say they didn't have some pretty good releases following his death. Many people claim that all their songs sound the same. I disagree regarding the music produced in the earlier days of the band. They had a formulaic style, but the earlier music was much more rooted in the blues. Bon Scott's lyrics were well-crafted and tongue-in-cheek. I feel that this is somewhat lost in the music produced after his death. Although I would not call this album my favorite AC/DC record which I would say is, "Powerage", this is probably the runner-up. Favorite song: "Walk All Over You" Least Favorite: "Love Hungary Man"
What more could you want? Angus’s fine line between blues licks and rock. Malcom’s impeccable rhythm. A bass and drum in the pocket. Bon Scott with some killer lyrics.
There's a famous Angus Young quote - "I'm sick to death of people saying we've made 11 albums that sound exactly the same. In fact, we have made 12 albums that sound exactly the same." The good news is, I'm a huge AC/DC fan, so by that logic, I love everything they have ever done. Jokes aside, love 'em or hate 'em, AC/DC is as consistent as they come. But, there's something special about the Bon Scott era - and this is my 2nd favorite Bon Scott album (behind Powerage). A biased rating, but this is an undisputed 5 stars for me.
Was kann man noch über diesen Klassiker schreiben? Jede Nummer ein Meisterwerk, und doch klingt es unbekümmert, frech, verspielt und musikalisch auf höchstem Niveau. Zeitlos rockig. Ganz einfach schön.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Classic album from a classic band
It's AC/DC, how couldn't you love it?
Enjoyed this album slightly less than Back in Black which I got last week, but it's still a 5/5 for me.
After Back In Black definitely the greatest AC/DC album
Blind album cause I've never actually listened to it.Beginning to end. Damn it was a good ride
Who doesn’t love this band?
Yeah, einfach nur geil und nie wirklich alt. Noch mit Bon Scot...
One album of average length is just how much of AC/DC I can take before I get bored. And this one is just a smash
Maximum rock n roll. If you don’t feel anything when you listen to this album, you’re Amish.
Du five stars bien mérité. Tout se ressemble mais tout est bien : "I'm sick to death of people saying we've made 11 albums that sound exactly the same. In fact, we've made 12 albums that sound exactly the same." Angus Young. Mais quand même : Highway to hell Girls got rythm Walk all over you Touch too much Beating around the bush If you want blood Night prowler.. Comment veux-tu mettre autre chose que 5
Hervorragendes Album. Ordentlicher Rock auf die Ohren. Abwechslungsreich und voll.
Now this is an album you need or may I say must hear before you die . From the opening guitar riffs to the loud spacious drumming and instrumentation to the singer spacy vocals , the album caught my attention from start to finish albeit a few tracks in the middle run.
My favourite Acca Dacca.
Bon Scott's final, and best, album before his death. One of the first CDs I ever got! Listened to this a thousand times when I was 12. 5/5
My favorite AC/DC album. I wore this cassette out as a teenager. Bon Scott at the top of his game. There is no weak spot on this album.
Great album
Coger un álbum cualquiera de ellos y es bueno. Este es buenísimo. 5/5.
Best of the Bon Scott era.
In the Bon Scott vs. Brian Johnson competition, I've long been firmly on Team Scott. Brian Johnson's a solid vocalist, but Bon Scott had that edge of menace and humor to him that I never get from Johnson. And he's at the peak of his powers here. Thing is, this album was actually much better front to back then I remembered. Aside from "Love Hungry Man" (which Angus Young himself hates) -- it's just straight fire from cover to cover. Of course, if Scott doesn't drink himself to death, there's no Back in Black, which is a slightly better overall album. But still, can't deny greatness.
Highway to Hell was the only song on the album that I’d heard before and it is such a strong opener that I expected the album to peak too soon. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find the rest of the tracks are all just as good, if not even better, and I’ve gained some new favourites in Touch Too Much and Beating Around the Bush
Quality. Easy 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Well, yesterday I had Britney Spears (and hated that I loved it), so this is a welcome change of pace. This is an easy album to love. Except... WAIT A MINUTE - IS THIS THE SAME AS …BABY ONE MORE TIME?!?! Hear me out - it opens with the hit. The one that you remember. The one that was on the radio. The one that the album is named after. The one that runs 42 minutes. The one where the songs were written over and over by a committee until they were perfect. The ones where you just zone out into the vibe. Both these albums were the first release by them to break the Billboard Top 100. Also (hard to verify), but it seems like it was also the first album that each vocalists employed a vocal coach for the album. To further the conspiracy, AC/DC came out first with 9 tracks. ...Baby One More Time came out afterwards, with 11 tracks... 9/11. All f*ckery aside, I enjoyed this one a bit more. But I'm really realizing that it's because it's the one I'm programmed to like more. I can't really say there is anything other than an aesthetic difference in the two. And, it's really hard for me to admit, worse yet saying out loud. AC/DC is one of those legacy bands that released a large catalog of music, and really nailed a lot of the hits. This album is no different. It is all unmistakably AC/DC. Added to library.
Wow album! It's a blast. The drive, the vocals, just fly together. It's got goosebumps all over it. Young's guitar and unique sound works wonders. The arrangements are not very complex and tricky. But it adds even more charm and density. Two guitars scattered through the channels. Everything is just super. Separate highlight to the vocals and dynamics. Where have I been before?
Un fragmento de Love Hungry Man podría ser la base de un tema de INXS El disco tiene varios matices y se nota a la banda en uno de sus mejores momentos. No sabía que era el último álbum con Bon Scott y que solo un año después llega Back in Black.
As long as I've been a fan of ACDC, I've never listened to this album in its entirety. Very glad I fixed that...total rocker. Everything is great on it. Insanely good riffs, grooves, vocals, etc. It's got it all. Even the last two songs that are slower are still in-your-face and bad ass as hell. Excellent album. Favorite tracks: all of them!
Fantastic album
Great for house cleaning!
It is Highway to Hell by AC/DC, what more is there to say?
Rock'n'Roll 🤘
The very definition of all killer, no filler - this album set the template for metal through the 80s. Absolutely blistering all the way through, with the only downside is that some of the lyrics haven’t aged particularly well, especially Night Prowler. Highway to Hell also feels bitter sweet, knowing the way that singer Bon Scott was to die less than a year after this was released. Still a classic though
Absolute classic
Haven’t listened to the whole thing yet but man it’s AC/DC. And I’m half way through. So safe to say it’s a 5. 9/10 thank you very much.
Love this album.
Raunchy. Classic. The riffs kill. The band sounds lean and mean. Love the call and response vocals throughout. Bonn Scott was all of rock and roll debauchery rolled into one skinny MF and this album brings the years the band spent honing their songwriting and performing to a sharp point.
Ich has zum abstaube gloset und es het im null komma nüt mini männlich wiederhergstellt (well ich mini männlichkeit au muess bewiese natürliche). Honestly ich han eigentlich nur high way to hell kennt und eigentlich überhaupt nüt vom album sust erwartet aber muess sege es het mehr viel meh gfalle als ich jemals erwartet het. S problem isch eifach AC/DC erinnert mich entweder ah mis studium (wege Strom undso haha lustig oder) oder ah middle aged men (ew they scare me). Aber wenn ich da mal versuech so guet wies nume gaht uszblende denn isches ebe scho ziemlich guet... Das oder ich werd au langsam middle aged (Ahhh!?!) 4.8/5
Awesome!
4.7 every song on this album is worthy of your attention. Great band exceptional album.
Must have for Hard Rock Fans. Go to the highway to hell!
Great album first to last track
I pressed play. I headbanged. I played air guitar. I sang nasally. I played more air guitar. I duckwalked. I took off my shirt. I tried to play real guitar. I failed. I duckwalked even more. I drank a pint. I headbanged harder. I drank another pint. I went dizzy. I headbanged until my mouth was open making that "buruburu" sound. I fell. I rocked
I'm on a highway to hell, and this album will take me there (in a good way). 5/5
I gave Back in Black an easy 5/5 a while back in this list but I feel like I know Highway to Hell a little bit better than that, and I'm very tempted to go 5/5 again because it's just full of absolute quality no-skip tracks. Back in Black has four all-timers in Hells Bells, Shoot to Thrill, Back in Black and You Shook Me All Night Long, with a good supporting cast, while Highway To Hell might only have the title track as an all-timer but the rest of the album is probably higher in terms of overall consistency. Stuff like Shot Down In Flames and Get It Hot aren't among their best-known songs but have been some of my favourites for years. If I took it in isolation I'd give it 5/5 so I probably will, I've listened to it for ages, but Back In Black has the lasting headline prominence so I'm second guessing myself :D what a band anyway  they put out those two albums in consecutive years  and I enjoyed Brian Johnson as much as Bon Scott.
Classic Rock album. Solid from start to finish.
It does what it says on the box, it's AC/DC, it rocks, I honestly dont know what to say that hasn't he said so Ill just leave it at that. Favorite song: Walk all over You
Rock and Roll the way Satan intended! An all time favorite of mine, reminds me of 8th grade.
Incredible way to start an album. One of the classics for good reason
I'm biased. You either love or hate the best band in all the land at two chord riffs. Memories of being in the back seat of a 76 Cutlass with this album as the soundtrack. Electrifying guitars from the Youngs and the best and last album of the Bon Scott era. Listening to Night Prowler made me do bad things too!!🤣🤘😈🔥🔥
Classic.
Legendarisch!
Acca Dacca will always be top notch Australian rock 🤘
Fantastic! Especially on a snow day
Pewnie 4.5, ale dawno nic dobrego tu nie było
An absolute banger!
One of greatest albums of all time. Rock and roll all the way down
Sweet
Love this album
Love it!
Classic! Awesome!
Bon's swan song-and so damn good. Few bands rock like AC/DC-many have copied, very few succeed. This is simply a great rock album.
Classic obvs
This album is so fucking rad, simple as that. Highway to Hell is the most perfect statement of dedication to ROCK that there ever was or has been. It’s the informal codification of the principal rock ‘n’ roll ideals that anyone who chooses to dedicate their life to rock stardom must uphold. Iconic album cover, iconic music. This may not be the best AC/DC has ever been, but nobody listens to them for flawless technical execution or groundbreaking lyricism. We listen to them for vicarious badass thrills and to feel fucking unstoppable! We listen to them to get hyped up, to play our ridiculous air guitars with abandon. We listen to them for fun and they always deliver it to us. Fuck yeah. Hail Satan, listen to AC/DC!!!
Not much of an AC/DC fan myself but hard to argue this isn’t a 5 star album.
Awesome album. RIP Bon Scott.
Fucking rock. Hard, rock.
An all-time favorite and classic album! Not a bad song on here!
Legendary.
Great album. Hard at its best
Such a good album rock on
Love this album, definition of classic rock Top tracks: Highway to Hell, Girls Got Rhythm, Beating Around the Bush
Can you make the argument all of their songs sound the same? Only if you aren't paying attention. Starts off with one of the greatest hard rock anthems ever and doesn't come up for air the rest of the way. Proof that Bon Scott is THE lead singer for this band. Similar to David Lee Roth with Eddie Van Halen, Bon Scott's voice just sounds like it belongs singing along with Angus Young. If you still insist all their songs sound the same, I implore you to get into some of the choruses and harmonies, to say nothing of some of the guitar solos. And even then, if you brush this off by saying the songs are too similar: What does it matter if they all sound great. Bumping up a notch in tribute to the late Bon Scott, who sang with all the conviction of someone hell bent on drinking himself to death.
AC/DC is a great band that has influenced almost everyone, from Gun's n Roses to Megadeth. I feel very nostalgic when I hear AC/DC songs. When I was not yet seven years old, my dad always played their songs in the car. Also, in my first band, our bassist loved this wonderful Australian band, and sometimes we performed their songs, even though we don't sing in English. Of course, 5 out of 5
🔥
Great album. Always nice to listen to the songs that weren’t such big hits, there were some fantastic blues rock sounds.
AC/DC really gets a rep for being a clear example of the sort of crunchy blues-influenced sex drugs and rock n roll classic rock sound, and this album is a pretty clear example of what that genre tends to sound like. This album is also the greatest possible execution of that sound. This band takes basic power chords and driving 4/4 rhythms and elevates them to truly unimaginable heights. The sound is gigantic, the charisma and confidence unparalleled, and every dimension of the music is delivered perfectly. Yeah, some tracks are worse than others. Get It Hot lacks the same intensity as the rest of the album but at worst it’s a fine classic rock song. Love Hungry Man is okay but rescued by some fun bass grooves. Night Prowler is a cool song but strangely bleak and sinister on an otherwise fun record. At the end of the day though, these would be good tracks on many other albums of the genre, and they are more than outweighed by the incredible rest of the record. Bon Scott’s death is one of the big “what ifs” in music history, because this is an album where he had really finally came into his own as a unique frontman with a bangin’ voice and cool attitude. Of course, the hedonistic nature on display here would ultimately lead to his demise, but what more fitting statement is there to go out on than “I’m on the highway to hell”. Corny I know, but pretty cool. Top tracks: Highway To Hell, Girls Got Rhythm, Walk All Over You, Touch Too Much, Shot Down In Flames, If You Want Blood
Good old fashioned hard rock n roll 4.5 stars
Flawless, and impossible to copy
I love AC/DC.
Holy Hell, better than I remembered
This is exactly why I am excited to continue this list. AC/DC comes on the radio and I'll take it, I don't need it, but I'll take it. The radio songs on this album aren't even the best ones. I'll take this album any day. Awesome
That's what I'm talking about!
Hell yeah!
ACDC is goatesque ! Really love it
Yeah! Hell Yeah! Last album with Bon Scott. Touch Too Much is killer.
It's AC/DC, hard not to enjoy rock
Classic AC/DC! Last album with Bon Scott, and it sounds great.
Slapper
Das war nice
I think I heard the same song over and over as in the other album 😅
Great
Perfection
hands down one of the greatest hard rock albums of all time. all killer, no filler. highlights: “girls got rhythm”, “beating around the bush”, “shot down in flames”, “if you want blood (you’ve got it)”.
Duh
Album 20 Oh AC/DC, Australia's gift to rock and roll. They're not metal, not punk, just rock and roll. Angus Young's guitar work is legendary for it's ability to simultaneously sound simple and brilliant. Highway to Hell was the last album with Bon Scott before he literally drank himself to death. I used to consider Back in Black to be their best album, but this listen made me reconsider. It was 40 minutes of fun, debaucherous, rock and roll. Not a bad song to be heard, and the album flew by. I almost listened a second time because I didn't want it to end. 5*
Timeless
ONE OF THE BEST EVER
Brilliant album full of bone-shaking rock n roll tunes. Highlight is the title track, a perfect blend of Angus Young's crunchy but fluid guitar, the rock steady rhythm section and Bon Scott's growling vocals. Plenty of other great tracks, with only one or two fillers
Good album but overused
One of AC/DC's best albums, featuring one of their best singles, and some really rocking songs besides.
what an awesome album
Best so far
It's a toss up for the best Bon Scott era record between this and Dirty Deeds, but I think this narrowly beats it out.
This album reminds me many afternoons with my cousins.
Great riffs, classic album and some quintessential Acca Dacca tunes.
5 For this guy, Bon Scott is AC/DC. My favorite albums and my favorite songs all come Bon Scott era AC/DC. Brian Johnson is mediocre to OK, and and Back in Black is a great album, but it just wasn't the AC/DC I love. In fact, my Spotify title for ACDC is just Bon Scott and his music. I don't think I have anything downloaded from the Brian Johnson era, but enough but that dude. Bon Scott has one of the most unique and distinctive singing voices I have heard. Hard to replicate for sure. Over the weekend I did see an ACDC cover band that specifically covered Bon songs and those guys were solid. I finally got to feel like it would to see Bon in concert and I loved it. Great album and even better album cover. This album takes me back to my days as a teenager. My sister always thought she could beat me on the basketball court. She couldn't and my smack talk, in your face song was Walk All Over You. This album does not have a bad song and I dare say the opening riff on Highway to Hell is recognized by every rock n roller out there. And while every song is solid, it's the 2nd half of the album that kicks it into a different gear. Hard to name a favorite song because it seems to change with the mood, but Love Hungry Man, If you Want Blood, Shoot Down in Flames and Night Prowler are all standouts to me. This is Bon's last album before he passes. I can't say this in my favorite album, but it certainly brings a tear when you stop and think about the significance. They released a concert movie about a year after Bon's death. I remember watching in a theater, knowing I would never too see him live. But at least I got to see this movie and here is the review from another rock n roller I love. Nothing else needs to be added. "My first punk rock moment was going to see the AC/DC movie, Let There Be Rock," recalled Dave Grohl. "It was the first time I'd felt that energy; like, I just wanna fuckin' break something. I'm so excited that I'm losing my mind! It was dirty and sweaty. Fuckin' beautiful."[1] This is what I feel like listening to any Bon Scott album. This album was also tied into another historical period when a number of dumbasses wanted to label ACDC Devil worshippers because Richard Ramirez left behind an ACDC hat at one of his crime scenes an an ACDC shirt at another. If you don't know who Richard Ramirez was, they called him the Night Stalker. Some tried to associate the song Night Prowler with the Night Stalker. The song was written 5-6-7 years prior to his murder spree and is about a teenage boy sneaking into his girlfriends bedroom at night. But some will find outrage wherever they can. Anybody remember Mork and Mindy? The last words Bon speaks as Night Prowler comes to and end are Shazbot and Nanu nanu. The catch words/phrase used by Mork throughout the show. Great album from beginning to end. Great album cover. RIP Bon. 5
Highway to Hell is another one of those super nostalgic albums for me. It's probably my favorite AC/DC album. The hits are still great, but I still find myself drawn to the deeper cuts like "Walk All Over You" and "Touch Too Much". This has some of the best hype up music too. "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" goes so fucking hard, but everyone knows that. All of these songs, however, always make me think of playing through Halo CE on Legendary. This along with Weezer (s/o Trainwrecks) and the Ram Ones were always in constant rotation on that playlist. The chaos at the very end of the level "Halo" specifically comes to mind when listening to this. I love this album. It has such energy that only AC/DC can truly call their own. It's the musical equivalent of the thrill you get from licking a 9 volt battery. Its rock and fucking roll. 5
Fun. How could you not enjoy AC/DC? Whatever else it might be (to me that’s mainly “Dad music”) this is a real feelgood mood booster of an album.
AC/DC are one of the most iconic, great rock bands.
🤘🤘🤘 This album rocks. AC/DC at their peak doing exactly what they know how to do. All the songs have that familiar AC/DC sound but there's a bit more variety and interest in the instrumentation than usual. Angus Young rips, and the band as a whole just really leans into themselves. I can't give this anything other than 5, partly nostalgia, but also I think just a really well executed hard rock album.
Great record! Not a lot to say other than that honestly it's just a great rocker. The "Quiet Riot" chorus on Touch Too Much was a bit distasteful to me and almost pushed this one down to a 4 but the bottom line is this is just a remarkable band with amazing feel and groove and basically every moment of this is enjoyable.
No waste
classic rock good shit. would buy vinyl
AMAZING
A classic. I have had this since the 80s.
Highway to hell
This is a really great record, such amazing guitar work throughout and the energy is infectious. I had never spent much time getting into full AC/DC records growing up because their hits were already so ever-present. I love their hits but it's definitely worth going into their deeper catalog because even songs that didn't become singles have the same style of catchy riffs and fun lyrics. Standout Tracks: Highway to Hell, Girls Got Rhythm, Walk All Over You, Beating Around the Bush, Shot Down in Flames, If You Want Blood (You've Got It), Love Hungry Man
I didn't really know the Bon Scott story until recently and now I find this album sadly ironic. I also find the idea that the difference between this and Back in Black is filler funny. AC/DC is nothing but lean. Which is part of their problem, they created a formula for their sound and went with it. The filler is just stuff that they didn't release as singles, because I don't think the quality of songs ever lets up on this album. This is basically a call for help from Bon that wasn't heard. It actually fills me with a bit of dread now. Ultimately, it is fun. It is one of two for sure essential albums by the band, the other being Back in Black. Sure the fans will throw Dirty Deeds out as well and honestly, I think through Let There Be Rock they are very solid (and Powerage mostly suffers from them straying from the formula.) Anyhow, this band made these two unequivocal masterpieces. AC/DC is an important band though. Mutt made them marketable and by extension created a world where Hair Metal ruled the airwaves, GNR dominated sales, and ultimately - when combined with the indie movement in the eighties - allowed the harder music when Punk broke to be palatable by the masses and marketed as Alternative. If this album had not been a monster followed by a behemoth none of that happens the way it did.
Words aren't enough. I love this band. I remember exactly where I was when I heard Bon Scott had died. They were never the same again - Back in Black was more successful (and I love it and saw them on the Hells Bells tour in 1980), but the Bon Scott material has never been equalled.
A classic album. AC/DC always brings such good energy. Just straight up killer rock music.
Ah, the sound of my childhood. I picture myself at 14 playing power chords on my electric guitar, imagining myself as the female Angus Young lol. I wish upon wish I could just hop into a time machine and go to 1979 and be at one of their concerts. Everything about this album is just perfect. AC/DC just gives you straight rock and that's what we all love them for. They're not complicated. They're not self-indulgent. They're not out here making grand proclamations or penning introspective lyrics. Fuck that. They're gonna give you hard-driving, kick ass anthem rock that will get you banging your head! That's all you really need anyway. This was their last album with Bon (RIP) and was followed up by Back in Black. I mean, probably the best one-two punch of any band ever. I must have played this album more than 75 times in my life, so much so that I've committed every line, every riff, every drum beat to memory. It's gotta be a 5 for me, all day every day! Favorite track: Girl's Got Rhythm, which is one of my favorite songs of all time from any band. Also, Night Prowler is such a cool song. But really, every single song on this album is a banger.
yes omg i love acdc please this is a 5/5 marry me
Unmissable, essential. A must listen for every member of the human race
🤘🏼🤘🏼
This is what I think of when I think of rock and roll
Great album. A classic. No bad songs
absolute perfection.
Nostalgia triumph again
Is it dumb? Kinda, but its so TIGHT and it knows exactly what its supposed to be. I think you only need one accadacca album to get the whole picture, but this is the one
I like AC/DC with Brian Johnson. I love AC/DC with Bon Scott. Bon would go to a better place after this album, and he left us with a solid album. AC/DC with Bon was a hard rockin' blues band. Bon's growling voice along with the Young brother's hard driving guitars was auditory heaven. Then Bon dies and Brian Johnson turns the band into a screeching arena rock band. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Johnson, but it was never the same without Bon. Rest in peace mate.
Another classic album
First 5 star! didn't want to stop listening
When people think of AC/DC, they typically think of them as a one trick pony; a devoid of depth rock and roll band with a guitar player wielding a Gibson SG who's dressed as a schoolboy. And maybe there is some truth to that. But they know their strength and acknowledgment of that strength leads to no weaknesses and weaknesses aren't to be found in this highway to hell. The band's last album to feature Bon Scott, a most perfect interpreter of the rollicking roll this band plays, AC/DC sounds as though they were heading towards brighter lights rather than the darkest depths they could envision. The ends of the world may have been on fire but they were dancing in it and, not only that, it was their oyster too. A heavy metal landmark, for sure.
Singles: ---------------------------------- Highway to Hell (#24 Australia, #47 US, #56 UK, #1 US Mainstream Rock) Girls Got Rhythm Touch Too Much (#29 UK, #106 US) Beating Around the Bush Standouts: Highway to Hell, Girls Got Rhythm, Touch too Much, If You Want Blood, Love Hungry Man Others: Beating Around the Bush, Get It Hot, Love Hungry Man, Night Prowler Rating: 5/5 (Classic)
So so good. Angus young’s tone is generational
Already know this one
I'm certainly on a Highway To Hell. A Classic Rock album that i love and that love is still strong after another listen. 9/10
If you take this album as a standalone from the rest of the AC/DC catalog, it's an absolute monster. Great, straight up booze, testosterone, and satan fueled hard rock. Touch too much gets me grooving so good. If they would have stopped with this and MAYBE Back in Black, they would have avoided the ridicule of all of their songs sounding the same...but with an album like this, you can't blame them for wanting to replicate that.
Doubtlessly one of the best rock albums of all time. Bonn Scott's voice is perfect for this style of music. There's not a dud track on here. Each individual element is in itself perfect, and add up together to be somehow better. Thankfully AC/DC seems to have avoided the questionable lyrics that many of their contemporary bands seemed to delight in too.
Easily my favorite ACDC record.
Ein Klassiker, auch wenn viele Lieder ähnlich klingen. Trotzdem hatte ich während des Hörens des Albums die ganze Zeit Spaß.
all-time fave
Perfect for what it is. Is it the "best" music we've heard? Of Course not. But its AC/DC. It kicks ass. Highway to Hell is one of my favorite pure rock tracks (and riffs) of all time and it doesn't get much better.
Listens: 2 Enjoyed: Yeah I can't really fault any of these tracks. A solid rock album which should have had more hits
❤️🔥
Rock n Roll
That’s AC/DC! Good loud rock. It’s got a feel good effect! Nice
It is of no intellectual merit whatsoever and I bloody loved it. The purest hard rock ever committed to wax. Topics include being a badass and sex. That's it. Love it.
Sólo por la canción de Highway to Hell ya se merece un 5...
It sounds like every other AC/DC record, but damn does it sound good.
Quality all the way through. 5*
It was awesome! I heard some of the songs before without knowing it was AC/DC so it was great
9,1 Among the greatest rock albums of all time
Hammer!
Sure, they aren't the most versatile band to ever exist, but damn, they are really good at what they do.
A snapshot of my childhood. Doesn't every 50-something own this?
Absolute banger
Near Perfect
I was not an AC/DC fan growing up. It was one of the albums I would think of when I’d tell people I was into most kinds of music except hard rock and heavy metal. I was under the impression that my musical tastes would narrow as I age, but I really like this album now. Some great rock here that’s a lot of fun!
Classic. Great. Love it.
Essential hard rock
Knock out of an album. Some absolute classic hits, with Bon Scott at his best.
classic, no skipper highway to hell and night prowler are top
The last AC/DC to sound like a barroom rock band. After this, their sound morphed into something far bigger and more electrifying. The title track is an all-time classic rock song, and deeper cuts like Shot Down In Flames, Girls Got Rhythm, Night Prowler, and If You Want Blood are all great.
Masterpiece.
Great album! Every track a winner here. Disturbing side note: - the connection between serial killer Richard Ramirez the “Night Stalker” and the final track - it was pretty creepy at the time…
AC/DC in their classic period when almost every song they wrote became a rock standard - the louder the better.
A stone classic. Finishes strangely slowly, but otherwise it's a snarling monster. Great driving album, too!
Stoopid in the best way.
very cool
Formative Album for me. I love this shit, and so many good memories with it. Will forever ring out in my home.
