9.5/10 It was worth giving it a shot! 'Cosmic dancer', 'Girl' are the most memorable ones. I'd absolutely listen other songs of their.

I dunno why but I love this album as a whole.

T-Rex - my favourite dinosaur, my favourite garden decking company, my favourite baking vegetable fat butter alternative and now a band that’s made a bloody brilliant record. 4.6

Glam Rock's ground zero. This is one of the albums that you can listen to over and over again without getting bored. Get it On is a must on every 70s classic playlist!

Banger after banger here, don't pretend it ain't so.

Second album by this artist, and I am not mad about that. This guy is really good. T. Rex makes music fun and makes me want to listen to it again. There is talent here, rock and roll vibes (but not too much), some awesome guitar, lyrics that you can hear and understand and just want to get up and dance. There are 50's vibes that move into folk (Cosmic Dance) into a more rock vibe (Get it On) with a little blues for good measure (Lean Woman Blues). Last time I saw Slash's inspiration, this time I am getting Black Keys vibes.

This was a really great album. Thoroughly enjoyed! It’s catchy and groovy and cool, and it feels different and fresh for that era.

It was good, I don't expect anything from this but I really wasn't disappointed. Great Album :D

A perennial album for me, one I have loved dearly for my whole adult life. A one time 'favourite album' and joyous and funky celebration.

I really liked this! Very much my vibe

Tengo una debilidad especial por T Rex

Love this album. One of the first albums I bought on vinyl as a kid when it came out. I listened to this constantly. The remastered expanded version is even better. I’m still not sure what a Jeepster is though….

I really liked this. Loved it in Billy Elliot. Life’s a Gas was a perfect penultimate song and Rip Off brought it all together. Get it On was almost too good everything after felt lesser but I still loved it all. If The Boss got 5 then this masterpiece deserves 5 too

Noiiice. Haven’t touched this one since the 70s era, so nice to revisit. Lives up to the hype for the most part. Some new songs stood out.

Glam rock. Un megahit. Vinilo.

Like it!

A personal favorite.

classic, chill rock. get it on is a banger

Wow. This is the band that Ty Segal based his sound on, no doubt. Turned me onto T. Rex. What a record.

T. Rex are the epitome of cool for me. This album oozes swagger and sexuality. It rocks hard but also sounds tossed off and casual. And it's stacked with great songs. "Mambo Sun" is such a great opener. That drumbeat combined with the riff captures that laidback rock star style so well. "Jeepster" is a classic too. I love the dirtbag poetry of the line "Girl, I'm just a Jeepster for your love." Brilliant. The riff is so catchy. I've heard a few bands copy it (and even heard T. Rex basically reuse it on other songs) and I don't blame them. It's awesome. "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" is the huge hit here and I love it. It always makes me happy when I hear it. I'm also a big fan of the closing track "Rip Off." It sounds wild and loose. The slower "Life's a Gas" that comes right before it would have been a fine song to end the album on but I love when bands sneak in one more high energy number before the end. Just great from beginning to end. One of my personal favorite rock albums.

Wow this is still really great music, time has only made this recording better. Marc Bolan was a brilliant composer and musician that unfortunately passed way before his time. David Bowie had it right.

I loved this so so so much. Trex has always floated on the periphery for me. I knew some songs but never committed to an album. I was so surprised by how much sound they could fit into an album. Some songs reminded me of ELO. Some were pure rock-n-roll and some made me feel feels. I love it.

Easily one of the best glam albums.

Excellent album. I can see where artists l listen to get their style from!! Wow

SINAAA

Bolan and T. rex are criminally underrated. Paved the way for bowies swag

great album, sounded good with some blues influence and great gutar

Such a good vibe. Loved it and just recently scored it on vinyl. I’m sold.

I love this one. This album is an old comfort listen for me. Hearing it makes me think of being on an airplane, being on a train, going somewhere.

Bangin

When you look at the cover of Electric Warrior, you see a statement being made. It's an iconic image that seems to say "You're about to get rocked!" When you listen to Electric Warrior, you can hear so many albums and artists that came after it. It sounds so ahead of it's time. I think it's still totally relevant today (2024). The line from Life's a Gas, "Ah Life's a gas/I hope it's gonna last." is especially poignant, since it sadly didn't last much longer for Marc Bolan, who died in a car crash in 1977. Liked songs added: - Cosmic Dancer - Bang a Gong (Get it On)

I already like this album bich

The Blues is an interesting genre. It has its markers, the I IV V progression, the shuffle mimicking a pulsing heart, the wails and call and response. Having listened to it for most of my life in 3 different languages I've always been fascinated how this African American export finds its way into the speaker boxes across the world. This album is no exception. It's a master class in Blues rock and roll. I'm not fond of number ratings, they've never made sense to me since music is subjective. My impression of this album is, it's a Blues album done in a British way. It has a sophistication to it that is contrasted with the spaced out dirty over drives of the lead and rhythm guitars. The drums swing, go straight and at times waltz. Great album overall.

Majestic departure from his early Tolkien freak folk days, this album is already one of my all time favorites. His one of a kind larger than life personality is dripping throughout the whole album and album has no skips. Some total bangers on here, as well as some slower joints such as the reflective “Cosmic Dancer”. Follow it up with “The Slider” & turn it up for track 1. Bolan forever.

I don't really like T Rex but I do like Electric warrior. Except Jeepster. Who could like Jeepster? As soon as I put on Mambo Sun I reflected what an influence this is on 21st Century bands like The Black Keys. Its got such an effortless groove. Cosmic Dancer has a Beatleseque / day in the life orchestral underbelly and is Bolan at his sublime best. But its 'Get It On' which shimmers the blues into a new, funky and swaggering era. Simple, effective and all encompassing. Its the high point of Glam Rock full stop. In its expanded form on streaming sites this is still too much T Rex for me but, all in all, you can really believe, at the end of the day, "Life is Just a Gas" withits beautiful, dreamy melody.

I’m biased because I love T Rex. All of the songs on this album are classics in their own right. Instantly recognisable from either a movie or covered by another band

My man Marc Bolan, rippity pip in peace. I feel like T-Rex is really not as appreciated as other bands in their genre. They helped coagulate the velvet goldmine sound, the glam rock that Bowie helped perfect as Ziggy Stardust. Even though they made it to the rock n roll hall of fame, deservedly, I wonder why they didn’t get as famous as Bowie or even Eno. T Rex has a great bluesy sound without being derivative. Understated and classy. This was the breakout record with Bang A Gong, but heaters like Cosmic Dancer are where they shine. Sexy booty rock haha. Like this is what you play when you’re trying to seal the deal ya know? 😏 Jeepster is a kinda silly love song but it still works. Planet Queen is another funky slow one. Basically, this album is heavy on the chill vibe. Perfect choice for lounging or doin a J in your living room.

god damn vibey. damn 5/5

Didn’t neeed to listen because I have the album

I really liked this!

Richtig gutes Album. 5/5

We love teee reex

This is the type of album I expect to be on this list. Timeless, unique and a delight to listen to. Love T.Rex and love Electric Warrior.

I like T. Rex. Very nice album. Jeepster, Get It On and Hot Love are the hits forever!

Listened to this 3 or 4 times over on a Saturday arvo, they surely have to be up there with one of the world's most underrated bands.

Exceptional album: fuzzy, melodic, stompy, entirely uplifting. Brilliant pop tracks, occasionally gentle and meloncholic, always excellent and uplifting. Really encapsulates what I imagine the 70s to be.

Absolutely one of the best albums of all time. Bone loves to rock, yes he does, yes he does.

The very best

The Big Bang for the glam rock era.

This is such a great album. Every bit on the level Of Bowie and the like. Ok that’s maybe too far but this is great

It’s got great range, production, and instrumentation. The vibes are immaculate. Marc Bolan’s voice is so unique and versatile. The writing and lyrics are beautiful. Also epic album cover. I love this album from start to finish. It scratches every itch I could ever get. Fantastic. 5/5

Such a fun jam.

Outstanding

That was fabulous! Adding to the travel folder on my phone. Ended up listening to it twice today

Went in knowing very little about them and was very impressed for a first listen. Call instrumentals and vocals and felt well ahead of its time, cool to place bang a gong with a band.

Admittedly I was not sure what to expect with this album because my familiarity with T. Rex was pretty much just “Get It On,” which I think is an okay song. But I’m so glad I listened to this whole album. The first half is damn near brilliant, and the album as a whole is really good and funky. “Mambo Sun,” “Cosmic Dancer,” and “Rip Off” were the highlights. This was the perfect album to listen to on one of the first sunny days of the year.

hehe 🦖 Najbolje pjesme: 1. Planet Queen 2. Get It On 3. The Motivator 4. Monolith 5. Life's A Gass 6. Cosmic Dancer ... (they all good)

Pues muy chulo.

Fuck yes.

Excelente

Mist i blinken!

Oh hell yes. Every song could be a single and the entire album rocks as a whole. Masterpiece!

Oh man, these guys are behind their time, can't believe they came out in 2018, from that post on youtube. They should have been one of those 70's stars. The sound is straight out of the decade, I can hear the fuzz from tube amps, and smell the patchouli (that's masking the stale bongwater). This stuff would have been so great following up that band that did the "Bang a gong" song... What? That was these guys? Seriously? How is it that I didn't hear about them before? Wasn't it Robert Palmer that did that tune? Are you sure? This stuff sounds brand new... Huh. O.k. Well then... Dang, my whole world has just been readjusted.

Conocía alguna, pero sorprendida para bien - 9.5

I had only new the Gong song...but that album is fantastic!!! Way ahead of their time.

This has been a favorite of mine for the last decade. It's beautiful, it makes you boogie, it's got swagger and style. Glam was a genre that could have been cringe-inducing, if done wrong. But Marc Bolan always made it classy, and more importantly, fun.

Incredible album all the way through.

Glistening pop brilliance from start to finish here. There's only one track I would skip (Lean Woman Blues), everything else is with perfect or interesting in some way. Nonsensical lyrics notwithstanding (what the hell is a Jeepster? And bang a gong? Why?) this is great. Surprised there are only 2 singles. Life's a Gas and Cosmic Dancer could easily have been, and have basically been treated as such in terms of radio play. I wasn't expecting that much as I liked rather than loved The Slider and see TRex as a singles rather than albums band. But this was ace.

Easily one of the best guitar albums of the 1970s

Classic

Fundamental!!!

Really liked this one. Wasn’t aware of the band until now. Except the one song

Brilliant

This was surprisingly great. I only knew one song and didn't even know the band really, but I liked it very much from the beginning to the end.

Quite enjoyable. But is the beat exactly the same for every song? But really likes it

Really like this album.

Killer album. 10/10 would listen again

I absolutely loved this album. The vibes were immaculate, the beats were perfect, and lyrics matched the music. I love the songs with that electric sounding guitar. I also love the vocalist, I can’t tell if it’s a man or woman, but I really enjoy it. Loved this album. Get It On is my favorite, obviously their most famous song, but there were a few others that stood out to me.

I always thought that 'Bang a Gong' song was by someone else. This album is great, start to finish. What an album cover too. I wonder how many people were inspired to buy a full stack amplifier from that image. It's making me want one right now! The music did not match what I expected based on that image, but I think the context of the album cover might have something to do with the band ditching their folk origins for a more electrified sound. There's parts of this album that feel so ahead of its time. I would not have guessed 1971. Even the lyrics feel

Always an enjoyable album to listen to. Never tire of hearing this album Favourite tracks: Mambo Sun | Bang a Gong (Get it On)

T Rex at their best!

Really solid album all the way through and an archetype of this style.

Come for Get It On, stay for Cosmic Dancer

Bit of a funky feel to begin, remnants of 60s with the orchestration. Beatles vibe. Kinda reminds me of Little Feats (around the same era). Get it on (bang a gong) certainly the most popular song on the album.cool groove on Motivator. Most songs have room to breathe. I enjoy this one a lot

I liked this a lot! A good start to the journey. I thought I hadn't heard of the band, but then I heard a couple of songs that I recognized, like Bang a Gong (Get it On). Fun 70s groove

Marc bolan es dios

Didn’t remember how great this is start to finish. No real weak spots (maybe “Motivator”, which is a less good version of Bang and Gong)

A stompy glam classic, one of the most fun albums to listen to all time.

Love it!!!

Good album

This album was so much better than the last T. rex album it’s mind blowing. It’s the glam rock that they’re known for but I didn’t realize how good the whole thing was past get it on and life’s a gas. Mambo sun and planet queen were probs my favorites outside of those two but the whole thing was packed with super sick electric guitars.

Very good album! I love this time. There were very good sound in 1970 like “The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from the mars”. T. Rex like calm Bowie for my view but he plays with genres more specifically

One of the coolest albums out there. There’s something so chill and lo-go about it that I love. ‘Get It On’ is the clear standout, but they’re all great.

Such an underrated band and album. So many great deep cuts. Mambo Sun, Monolith, Lean Women Blues, Planet Queen, and Rip Off are all better songs than their "one hit" Bang A Gong. This album rules and if you haven't listened to it, do yourself a favor and do so.

One of the greatest glam rock albums. Marc Bolan always gets compared with Bowie, but T. Rex beat him to the glam scene. As late as 1972 (before 'Aladdin Sane'), it was still fair to ask which was of two was better, in no small part to the strength of 'Electric Warrior'. Bowie was always going to win that battle in the long run, even if Bolan hadn't died tragically young. But T. Rex still stands as an important contemporary that holds up today.

Love the sound, great album.

Awesome album. Fabolous band! Knew them before. Love the Genre they are playing! Personal top3 in no order: Get It On Life‘s A Gas Hot Love

I haven't listened to this album for many years. Thank you for reminding me of it. LOVE IT. 5 stars.

Ganz knapp zwischen 4 und 5. Heute fühl ich aber eher die 5

Mambo Sun- 5/5 Cosmic Dancer- 5/5 Jeepster- 4.8/5 Monolith- 5/5 Lean Woman Blues- 4.9/5 Bang a Gong (Get It On)- 5/5 Planet Queen- 4.6/5 Girl- 4.6/5 The Motivator- 4.8/5 Life's a Gas- 5/5 Rip Off- 5/5 Total- 4.9/5

T Rex is a classic. It pioneered rock in the 90s and 2000s with influence stretching from greenday to the strokes. The album feels very Velvet underground which is always a plus in my book.

Unexpected psychedelic surprise!

Loved it

Amazing best album I've heard all year

Fun, jangling, up beat. I listened to this album like 4 times yesterday. The lyrics are whimsical, especially in Cosmic Dancer. Love this.

Sleazy sexy 70s pop 5/5 love it - Harry Styles please take note dear boy

Great, smashing, super.

One of my most listened to albums ever and thus one of my favorites. I remember the first time I listened to this, I was disappointed it didn’t ROCK the way the album cover portrays, but I quickly learned to love it as one of the best pop records ever made. Easy 5 stars for me, something I can throw on anytime.

A classic among classics - a tight and triumphant collection of songs that left its influence on countless bands to come. Simple and effective songwriting and a perfect feat of engineering. Bolan just nailed it here - just sleazy enough while keeping it fresh and providing some of the most memorable melodies in rock and roll. Fave track: Life's A Gas

Bang a gong! Driving music

I was so excited to get this album today. It's an all timer for me, easily one of my top 10 favorites. Electric Warrior is a genre and decade-defining work, the perfect distillation of all the best things about glam. It's catchy and cheeky, fanciful and freaky. It can be gleefully nonsensical, but also disarmingly lovely. The album has an infectious blend of bold rockers and shimmering, dreamboat ballads that all flows beautifully from one song to the next. Marc Bolan is a force of nature here as front man - swaggeringly sexy, but with a vulnerability that is incredibly engaging. This is a perfect rock album that continues to get better with age. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Get It On, Cosmic Dancer, Mambo Sun, Life's a Gas, Jeepster, Monolith, The Motivator, Planet Queen, Rip Off, Girl, Lean Woman Blues

Really great, glad I heard it

Fantastic! Cosmic Dancer still makes me want to cry.

After just 1 listen, I'm fairly certain glam rock peaked here. 5 love at first listens out of 5 💋💋💋💋💋

loved it

L O C U R A

Thought some of these were rolling stones

A banger start to finish

This record only contains hits. From the first song to the last one. It only gets better with every listen

I stan Marc Bolan.

Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust may be the greatest glam album of all time, but this is a very close second Bolan’s ability to write insanely catchy pop hooks is best displayed on this album Favourite tracks: Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster, Get It On, The Motivator, Life’s A Gas

highly enjoyed this album, a few songs i knew and loved, really brought you back to the era

Completely had a different opinion on T.Rex as glam rock novelty act. This is Psychedelic, Folke-y lyrics and similar to the best of Bowie, one of the few albums where the well known tune actually is a step down from the rest of it. Loved it. 5

Honestly this album is really fun. Nothing earth shattering about it, but just fun proto-glam fuzz guitar blues. Some super catchy songs too that still totally hold up.

i don’t like glam rock much but this album was solid! the hits are hits for a reason, and the rest of the album is fun as hell

No Ody else sounds like T Rex. Loads of bands have tried to copy them, but they get the chugging sound and don't get the whimsy or the funk or the sheer joy of the band. I don't think I necessarily got this myself till I listened to this today. The whole album feels like it only took 20 minutes to listen to. Brilliant stuff.

T Rex is always great - makes me feel like I'm in the 70s :)

bangers bangers bangers

Great album, the first half is very strong. Falters a bit in the second for me, but still enjoyable! Saved tracks: Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer, Monolith, Get It On

Good lord this album is good. I am only familiar with a small amount of glam (Sparks & Bowie, which are both fantastic in their own right) but this showed a less eccentric side of glam which i adored. While some songs don't stand out as much, that doesn't make them bad or anything, they're just standing to some of the best rock songs I've ever heard. It has the insanely crisp and breathy production that I've come to know from Tony Visconti, which is readily apparent on tracks like Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer, and Life's a Gas. It hits hard but doesn't feel the need to beat you over the head with maximalism. Bolan's vocals are so smooth and the lyricism is genuinely poetic in its simplicity. Of course, I have to mention Get it On, which despite being played to death still hits as hard as the first time I heard it. The album really knows how to restrain itself so the big moments hit all the harder. Cannot recommend this enough if you are even peripherally interested in glam rock, as it's influence is bleeding out of everything that came after it (Ziggy Stardust especially).

An offer from The Glamfather I simply can't refuse.

Amazing album!

"Electric Warrior" is the second studio album by English rock band T. Rex and their sixth since since their debut as Tyrannosaurus Rex. It was a turning point away from folk-oriented musuc to flamboyant, pop-friendly glam rock. The album is credited as kick starting the glam-rock craze in the UK and as the first glam-rock album. The lyrics went away from earlier fairy tale to more common rock & roll cliches. Tony Visconti of David Bowie fame was the producer. The album reached No. 1 on the UK charts and was the best selling album of 1971 in the UK. A chunky, grinding, scratchy guitar opens "Mambo Sun." Lead singer and guitarist Marc Bolan with his whispering singing. There is a groove laying a foundation for what I think of classic T. Rex. Maybe about a journey for a girl and/or to find beauty. A little change of pace with the excellent "Cosmic Dancer"... acoustic guitar and strings. Very dreamy and grandiose. Supposedly about reincarnation. What we do know is that Bolan came dancing out of the womb, he danced at 8, he danced at 12...he danced. The drum start and that guitar riff get "Jeepster" going. Another song with a great groove. He's a Jeepster (guy) going to go anywhere for his girl. Side B begins with the glam rock poster child and anthem in "Get It On ( Bang a Gong)." That classic guitar riff. Add a sax. Hey, Rick Wakeman on keyboard. No need to discuss a song meaning here. The album ends with one of the more interesting songs on the album in "Rip Off." This sounds very David Bowie. Also, very busy. It's rockin' and a sax and strings. And then ends in a jazzy fashion. Hmmm! This is a solid album. Visconti adds high-end production as he did on the subsequent and equally great album "The Slider." A glam rock and overall rock classic.

PREFS : TOUT MOINS PREF : RIEN

This one was good! I liked it a lot. There was a song I've heard before but can't remember which. It's been in a bunch of movies.

Truly awesome glam pop. So many of these are ear worms for me.

Genius. This is the first rock album I ever heard, and I remember it as if it were yesterday. Mambo sun is my all time top T Rex track.

Already heard this one, still bangs. Love the balance of bangers and groovers. Faves: Mambo Sun, Jeepster, Bang a Gong, Girl, Life's a Gas

This album kicks ass! Love it. Cosmic Dancer is 10/10. Mambo Sun and Jeepster are 9.5/10. The rest are all just a notch below. Monolith gets an honorable mention too. So good. 9.5/10.

i like it

7th February 2023 Listened while in the office on a rare Tuesday. Watched Top Gun Maverick with McDonalds when we got home. A slap round the face with a jewel encrusted glove from the glam king. Glorious.

Classic. Reminds me of Billy Elliott which uses the songs a lot.

My first memory of T. Rex was in the opening scene of Billy Elliot, where the titular character was jumping in front of a yellow background with Cosmic Dancer playing in the background. A little later, Bang a Gong soundtracked the scene where Billy steals a book whilst the librarian got distracted from a striking laborer. These songs are on Electric Warrior, the album in which T. Rextacy was fully fleshed out. Marc Bolan had all the tools to be a star and he used those tools to completely overhaul the British music scene that was still reeling from The Beatles' breakup and herald a whole new, glammed up era. White swans were rode majestically into the sun as, for a good few years at least, T. Rextacy was in full swing. Life's a gas, indeed!

I'm really surprised by how much I've enjoyed this album. I knew Jeepster and Get It On (obviously), but the latter is a bit of a cliché at this point, so I wasn't expecting much. However, listening to the whole album through I was pretty blown away. Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster, Girl, and Life's a Gas are all incredible songs. Definitely deserves all the praise it gets, and even more proof that 1971 was one of the best years for popular music.

Start to finish, this is awesome. Great variety on this one to keep things interesting. It’s pop, it’s psychedelic, it’s rock, it’s bluesy, it’s fucking great. Marc Bolan is a top tier front man, there’s nothing here I don’t love. It’s an easy 5 from me.

Fun and sexy and funky. There's a reason Bowie was in love with Bolan.

I really enjoyed the vibe of the music

incredible rock album really special stuff 10/10

Personal opinion: *The Slider* is T. Rex's best LP. *Another* personal opinion: *Electric Warrior* also deserves to be included in a list of essential listens, and not only because it's this band's most famous album. The varied moods and textures explored on this one mark a milestone in Bolan's trajectory. Plus, it's got "Get It On", the proverbial cream of the cake that makes this record *another* masterpiece. Number of albums left to review: 722 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 136 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 67 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 76

Glam rock at its best. Mambo Sun starts things with a greasy groovy riff. It's the best song on the album but there is really little drop off and there is not a dud on the album, unless I was being hyper picky and hen I could say I might skip Lean Woman Blues, easily done since it closes side 1. A 5 star album that belongs in every collection.

Oddly enough, I was quite into 'My People Were Fair...' before hearing any T. Rex material aside from 'Get It On' (which I didn't know was T. Rex at the time). Once I learned that Tyrannosaurus Rex became T. Rex, I checked out what I could (before I had a streaming subscription) on Youtube. I was really unimpressed and left it behind. I gave this album another try 10 or so years later, and while I warmed up a bit to it, I didn't get through the whole album. Fast forward to now, and I really love this project because I'm forced to get all the way through albums, for better or for worse. And what do you know...I loved this. I just hopped aboard the groove train for 40 minutes and jumped right back in for more. Such a great mix of rock n roll, blues, soul, with spashes of strings and horns perfectly placed. The low end, which the guitar is often part of, is a precise, chugging, tight foundation straight through the rockers. The ballads have the feel of soundscapes that you get lost in, with Bolan's weird, warbling vibrato floating on top. I love how a lot of this a throwback to early rock n roll, with these songs adding elements that take the sound in a different direction. 'Monolith' is a good example of this with the effected guitar lick over the old style backing ooo-ooo's. An album I've overlooked in the past, I will be coming back to this one.

This was fun and unexpected. A nice combo of rock, blues and funk - reminded me of the bar crawl we did on Beale Street in Memphis back in the day. Bang a Gong plus so much more - good times!

This record sounded like my nan scraping sawdust out of her fanny with a rusty spoon. In a good way.

Exceptional album, no skips

An incredible album from start to finish with heart, soul and gripping guitar work

Marc Bolan was way ahead of his time and sadly departed way too young. You can hear the imprint of this band and this album in particular on so many bands and genres, I think it still sounds fresh today and songs like Mambo Sun could be released today. Great stuff.

Love the production, love the guitar, love the vocals. It’s just a great sounding record.

Raw and soulful. An absolutely perfect little time capsule of psychadelia-infused blues rock from 1971. Love it.

All the pomp and pageantry of the glam movement would have been consigned to relative anonymity and/or historical curiosity had Marc Bolan’s songwriting not been so damn good. And it is. An absolute masterpiece which moved rock music forward about twenty years in one fell swoop. Camp and flamboyant without feeling dated, this record attains the timeless status of all classic albums in a genre whose silliness often resists such classification. One of the easiest 5 star ratings I’ll give out.

My favorite glam rock album ever, and that's not an understatement considering how much I love Roxy Music and Bowie. In a lot of ways reminds me of what The Clash would do with London Calling. Bolan takes all these different styles, from blues ("Lean Woman Blues"), rockabilly ("Jeepster"), doo-wop ("Monolith"), jazz, baroque pop ("Cosmic Dancer"), gospel ("Bang a Gong"), and folk ("Girl") among others, and twists them to create this unique cool rock style that is kept interesting and exciting in each track. I adore his songwriting style: heart-spoken lyrics sung with confidence and in short segments to this mysterious girl. The highlight is definitely Bolan as the vocalist (even his grunts are awesome) and guitarist (really draws your attention), but there's something unique to love about every track, from the back vocals to the variety of instruments (they use congos, bongos, strings, and even a flugelhorn in "Girl"). The flow is perfect, starting off with really strong tracks, putting their massive hit in the middle, and closing off with the shocking out-of-nowhere proto-punk "Rip Off" featuring Ian McDonald on sax, reminding me of a Kurt Cobain stunt on In Utero. Even the bonus tracks are incredible and worth the listen. (I just wish they didn't put "Planet Queen" again.) It's also super influential for its time. Coming out before even Hunky Dory, this was a style of rock that was like nothing else of the era. This "back-to-basics" approach would influence other glam rock and proto-punk acts that would serve as the inspiration for the whole punk and alt-rock movements. I've once called T Rex the indie rock band from the 70s, and I'll say it again here, cause they really could have released this 25 years later and fit in with the crowd. This is a record I put on often to increase my mood.

This album was an early glam rock statement piece. It features crunchy grooves and was a lot of fun to listen to. Marc Bolan has a very unique sound which makes T Rex instantly recognizable in their post folk glam form. This album influenced everyone Bowie, to the Cure and that reason alone gets it a 5 of 5. But simply put, it’s just a phenomenal album

A fabulous album. Already on my favourite list but always worth a prompt to listen again.

Le daría 1000 estrellas.

First and foremost, it's got a damn good sound. The album is just a joy to the ears, a pleasure to listen to. 'Get it On' is obviously great, but the whole album feels amazingly packaged. Great guitarwork, great vocals, great production to make everything feel cohesive even when the vibes may be completely different, like when you move from 'Lean Woman Blues' to 'Get it On.' Leaves you wanting more, which is both a good and bad thing. I feel like an album should be a complete experience, with a climax and a resolution, like a story, but there's something to be said about an album that makes you want to listen to it again immediately. And that's the feeling 'Electric Warrior' left me with.

Vraiment adoré, je vais écouter à nouveau.

A quintessential hammock-lounging album. Even though it kicked off the Glam Rock scene, it still has a sound unlike anything else and questions what road Glam could have went down if everyone mellowed out instead of hamming it up.

Beat Mambo Sun. Jeepster para Moom. Vocal Monolith. Get It On tem uma boa levada. The King of The Mountain tem um turiru tal tal legal.

Is this album objectively a perfect record? No, I will admit that. But I don't care, this album came to me nearly a decade ago, right when I was really getting into music and the art of listening to entire albums, and it has stayed with me the whole time. I'm still impressed by certain songs like "Monolith" and "Life's A Gas" and the real emotions I feel listening to them. Not perfect, but to me, it's a damn classic.

"Bang a Gong" has been a favorite song of mine for around 40 years. I still love it and have never really been bored by it. I'm sure I've heard a couple of other tunes from them in that time but I sure can't think of any names. None of the other tracks on this album ring any bells. So it looks like this will be largely a new listening experience. I've discovered yet another album worthy of the one hit off it that I'm intimately familiar with. There's a good bit of "Bang a Gong" style music that I really loved ("Mambo Sun", "Jeepster", "The Motivator" to name a few), but the surprise was the presence of a softer side of T-Rex. "Cosmic Dancer" is a string-filled, beautiful song that I fell instantly in love with. "Monolith" marches along accompanied by a lovely choir, while "Life's a Gas" is really touching. Great album!

This is the T. Rex you're looking for. The number of classic albums released in both 1971 (and 1972) is simply staggering. I somehow ran 5 miles while listening to this (in the interest of full disclosure, it was the expanded version, I needed the extra padding those bonus songs provided to get to 5 miles). T. Rex should have soared into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame on this album alone.

Glam rock. Un megahit. Vinilo.

Pues muy chulo.

Absolutely loooove this album! The sound of Marc Bolan's voice is so happy to me! Cosmic Dancer is an old favourite and an absolutely beautiful song, I would be absolutely made up if I'd written something that incredible. Get it on is an absolute BOP and this entire album is wonderfully feel-good.

Wonderful album, a classic

Best t-rex All the time

I love this album!! One of my favorites. Bluesy, sexy, fun.

You can totally tell how this is the beginning of something special. It's interesting to think that this was made in 1971. The arrangements are interesting and mix really well with the vocals. Dreamy and real at the same time.

An all-time favourite of mine. A dreamy folkadelic cross between the Beatles and Bowie (Ringo loved them, Bowie's producer Tony Visconti produced it, so it all checks out!)

Walks such a fine line between folk stomp and rock

A true classic

Cool sound. First song is a cool groove. Bang a gong.

Electric Warrior has to be considered the quintessential Glam Rock album that was hugely influential to many musicians, especially David Bowie. The band's sound evolved from folk-rock to a more electric rock sound. Get It On (Bang A Gong) is one of those songs you seem to hear everywhere, but the rest of the album is solid with just as many memorable songs on it. Definitely essential to any fan of 70's rock, a classic!

Great! I didn't expect anything different either; T.Rex is one of the greats when it comes to classic rock.

Stone cold banger

This is a very cool album. Mambo Sun starts things off great - cool from the first moment. Cosmic Dancer sounds like Bowie (and so does Planet Queen) - I admit I'm not sure who influenced who (whom?). Reading various biographies suggests it was mutual (plus, they both worked with Tony Visconti - heck, Rick Wakeman played with both as well. I also see Ian McDonald was on the album. RIP Ian). Jeepster and Bang a Gong are both classics for good reason. Again, the word that comes to mind over and over is COOL. On my first few listens I thought it was overly repetitive, but on subsequent listens I started to catch the different nuances between songs. Most importantly, I enjoyed the entire album more on every listen. Sounds like a 5 to me.

Amazing - start to finish - sexy, groovy, fun and just the right length. Some great songs on this one too - Jeepster and of course bang a gong

Great album! Love it!

love love love Cosmic Dancer

My life’s a shadowless horse If I can’t get across to you In the alligator rain - Mambo sun

Classic T. Rex album, never gets bored ..would be nice if a few more T. Rex albums are included as well.

Super cool. Guitar riffs were awesome. Very catchy songs

A great rock/glam rock album. Bang a Gong sounds like it could be a Black Keys song.

Loved it! Haven’t heard for decades..

Loved it!

Bolan's best album

Saved Prior: None Not Saved: 11. Girl 10. Lean Woman Blues 9. Bang A Gong (Get It On) (The Power Station cover is much better I'll say it) Off Rip: 8. The Motivator 7. Planet Queen 6. Jeepster 5. Cosmic Dancer 4. Life's a Gas 3. Mambo Sun 2. Rip Off 1. Monolith Also saved off the deluxe reissue: Raw Ramp, Hot Love, King of the Mountain Cometh Overall Notes: GodDAMN I've been sleeping on this. I love the eclectic musical accompaniments and guitar licks. Something about a black album cover with that yellow glow does music Justice.

I can taste the folk origins here, and the thin Glam veneer is actually surprising potent in such a small dose. This is simultaneously the most confident and the most relaxed Glam rock record.

This album is so good that we feel bad we rate other albums five stars

Very solid album from legendary group. That's it.

Dope album. Would definitely listen again.

Great album, really fun to listen to, enjoyed every song on it.

'Fuck yeah' kind of rock music.

Very familiar with this album. It's really a great intro to T Rex, the simple but earnest lyrics, the kind of silly straight-up rock anthems, and the breadth.

Me encanta

Life's a Gas, Yeah!

One of my favorite albums. A classic!

Great album, right up my alley. didnt skip a song

Classic Trex

mto bom

Incredible

Love it, so many great songs I'd heard over the years, esp cosmic dancer

Glam rock masterpiece

Very very enjoyable

One of my favorite albums, all-time. Top to bottom, it is great. Effortless psych boogie. Sure, The Motivator is just a Bang A Gong part 2, but this is an essential album. If I don't give this 5 stars, I'm not sure there are any 5 star albums.

S teir glam rock masterpiece

Decent 4

It's got 'Bang A Gong', so you're at least in for that treat. I like T. Rex and they mark the consummation of Britain's laid-back side of glam. I don't think anything breaks 100 BPM. At its best, you get absolute grooves like 'Mambo Sun', 'Planet Queen' and the aforementioned 'Gong'. On the other hand, I also want a bit more out of a rock album usually. Bowie's glam work is superior (not a hot take): he had the vibe but he also had a little bite and a little drama when it was called for. Marc Bolan does a whole bunch of guitar stuff that's subtle and influential (the slapback echo all over his chill grooves is an essential piece of learning) but it doesn't elevate this to the level of contemporaries (and those he influenced) like Bowie or Queen. Great but not a masterpiece. A slightly weak 4/5, but deserving of our respect, despite the narrow lane that T. Rex grooves along in. A real peak album for rolling down the windows and cruising in the sunshine, though.

Surprisingly sedate for the album cover and band name. I guess that's what rock was like coming out of the sixties! An enjoyable listen. 3.5 rounded up to 4. Favorite track: Rip Off.

Easy 3-4*. Very enjoyable with short tight songs.

Never listened to this album before -- aside from the "bang a gong" mega-hit I don't know that I could even have Identified a T Rex song, it's just never been in my orbit. But this is a fun and great album! A little bluesy, rocky, groovy, weird, catchy... what's not to love!?

Not really my style but I love the vibe. One of the songs strongly resembles Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley and it made me laugh :)

classic rock en su máxima expresión. ahora entiendo su impacto y lo mucho que influenció otros proyectos. get it on que temazo !!! motivator tmb me gustó mucho

Great.

Fun, makes me think about Billy Elliott.

Some top tunes

This was another excellent T. Rex album by Marc Bolan and his friends. Instantly you recognise its sound, the swinging tunes. Almost Beatles-esque pop songs, sounding innocent in some cases, some other cases not so innocent at all. It's cohesive, fun, engaging and excellent songs. I never realised that this was what glam-rock was!

pretty funky, this type of rock sounds nostalgic to me since its the type my dad would listen to, so im pretty fond of it. good stuff!

Electric warrior, come out and play!

Velociraptor idk

#160/1001 🇬🇧 Love this record. The whole sound that Bolan ceated with Tony Visconti as T-Rex metamorphasised from mystical folk rock to glam. My opinion of them is unpopular amongst my friends but i stand by it. Best Tracks: Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster, Get It On, Lifes A Gas.

- Was previously familiar with the jam "Bang It On (Get It On)," but that was about it from T. Rex. Pleasantly surprised to hear multiple moments of proto-David Bowie and proto-Lou Reed. - An enticing combination of invigorating rhythms, guitar riffs, and Marc Bolan's wailing tones. "Cosmic Dancer" is legitimately great and "Monolith" is solid. - Slower glam pieces are better than anything mimicking more traditional rock and blues.

I know this album backwards and forwards. I've heard it a zillion times over the last 40 years, I've memorized every awesome horny beat and chord and every dumb-as-shit lyric. I can't judge it in normal terms. Cosmic Dancer makes me lose an IQ point every time I hear it. But I'm still a jeepster for your love.

some great tunes on this, great glam rock

Generally good vibes Girl & Rip off gotta be my favourite tracks Jeepster & Monolith are pretty cool too There Was a Time / Raw Ramp / Electric Boogie isn't exactly my cup of tea

A good album. Really good. T. Rex are such a good time really. I always massively enjoy listening to them. Marc Bolan has such a lovely, distinctive voice. Their music is so gay as well. It's great.

Fun album! Didn’t expect to recognize a song on there!

Really solid album! Enjoyed it front to back.

This album has such a unique sound. Really enjoyed this one!

4 stars - Bang a Gong is a great song but, the rest of the album is pretty good as well.

It’s the “Bang a Gong” album! Already knew and loved. It can be a bit slow and doesn’t always go super hard, but it just feels cool and fun!

Really good at what it does. Bang A Gong is a classic, of course. Really loved the last track too.

Great album, lots of groove and fun early glam rock themes.

This is a great album to have on in the background. That isn’t a knock but an endorsement of how groovy it is. My only complaint is that it is too short.

This was much better than expected. I only knew the radio song, but the whole album rocks.

Glam rock you can believe in.

3.5-4/5

liked it alot, i felt so powerful listening it on my headphone

Good stuff by one of iconic glam rock bands. can hear some Bowie influence in the songs. 4/5

Top : Get It On Flop : Girl

Closer to a 3.5 than a 4

Never heard of this band but surprisingly really enjoyed this album.

Strong start, then tapers off. Favorite songs: Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster, Life's A Gas

first, Cosmic Dancer - a perfect song? very likely. in the tradition of great rock'n'roll nonsense-mysteries, a bullshit lyric that acquires a kind of singular profundity through repetition and its surroundings, Bolan's vocal halting and beautifully, the whole thing spiralling upwards towards some gorgeous amber plateau. i can't put it on without tearing up in the first 10 seconds most of the rest of this is wonderful too - sexy, idiosyncratic, zigs where so many others would zag. the horned-up blues numbers are great, but i'm a softie, and the ballads are where i really live, so it's the gospel choir on Monolith and the Monet-dotted funeral-jazz horns on Girl that i'm here for. a hugely wonderful record, tough yet tender, brash yet vulnerable, by a band i'd put off for far too long

Honestly surprised how much I liked this. I can hear so many sounds that came later, from Bowie all the way to OK Go, weirdly enough. Downsides? Didn't really care for Monolith (too 60's psychedelic for my taste) and I struggle with straight blues tunes like Lean Woman Blues. The Motivator sounded like an alternate take of Bang A Gong... Besides those, quibbles, enjoyed the rest quite a bit.

My first album. Finished it while practicing to write in English faster and more accurate. It was great ^_^

Wikipedia has this album in the “boogie rock” genre and I think that’s accurate. Groovy, with some nice guitar solos. Some pleasant listening even if it didn’t blow me away.

very 80s. I liked it.

Funky, whimsical pop. I like it. Favorite songs: Mambo Sun, Planet Queen, Rip Off. "I danced myself right out of the womb"

One big hit, but the rest is pretty enjoyable as well.

the album has a typical "oldies" style rock with a sprinkle of modern elements of rock. the base for the sound is classic rock'n'roll and the C C6 C7 progression. my favourite would be get it on, for the movement and energy i can see myself listening to this with my grandpa in late summer or early autumn.

It was great the standout tracks hit so hard but the rest was good too

Love T. rex.

It’s made its mark on music and is still fun to listen to today. A number of great songs here that I play somewhat regularly. It’s a bit simple for me at times though. I get that it’s part of the appeal but it does sound like cave man boogie rock at times. Fun, but some of the musical choices don’t always hit right. Still some banging riffs and beats and songs and really good.

4.5 Probably could be a 5 starer. Great album, oozes coolness

i mean just a good rock album. i like the slow pace

Cool album, never heard of them before

Track one, Mambo Sun is a pure groove. Its enough to make the whole album worth a listen

my first album on here and i was not disappointed. pioneer of glam rock and unskippable album every song was a hit. would love to drive on a highway with this album blasting.

I really really like this album. Kinda makes you want to dance but like, in a cool retro way. Most songs I probably wouldn’t listen to daily, apart from Girl- reminds me of some of the more sombre Bowie songs.

Cool as shit. It fuckin' rules.

Trying to separate the art from the artist. First full listen reveals a silky smooth glam rock presentation. Overall an enjoyable performance all the way through.

I'm biased because I already love a couple of the songs on this album, but man. The energy is incomparable. Smooth, cool, effortless. Main complaint is that some of the songs sound a bit too similar, but there's still a nice variety.

I really was dancing to this when I was 12- at youth club in the village hall . Enjoyable blast of the past . We all thought Marc was the sexiest man ever and Hot Love is still impossible to sit still to .

Sucio pero encanta

I like hugely complicated music with lyrics that dig deeply into human emotions. I also love silly pop music that drags you along on a wave of sugary europhia. This is the definitely the second. Unapologetically so. And it’s all the better for it
