1001 Albums Summary

Wasn’t really excited to listen to another Reggae album, but a number of these tunes we quite good.

Wow, it’s hard to believe this is his first, and not a greatest hits album. Lots of really good tunes, and “Alison” just gets better and better with age. “Watching the Detectives” still has an incredible base line and punchey drums, “Less than Zero”, and “Blame it on Cain” still hold up 45 years.

A few good ones, still as depressing as when I first heard it.

Still sounds a fresh and new as my first listen 58 years ago. Even the covers are new and alive.

Well everyone has their opinion, I reviewed a few for this recording. The individuals that rated this anything over 2, I wonder what they think of Dark side of the moon? This was another me 2 hip hop piece of turd, with very little originality. The only saving moment was the string arrangement

Still sounds great

Wow this is still really great music, time has only made this recording better. Marc Bolan was a brilliant composer and musician that unfortunately passed way before his time. David Bowie had it right.

This one made it to my 1001 mediocre albums picked out of a 2nd hand store. To classify this as any sort of “Rock” is blasphemy.

An incredible Blues artist with a great collection of his work

Wow a lot of people must have bee wry stoned (or out of their minds) to have actually paid for this audio recording. I still can’t understand how or why so much of this garbage makes it into this list (perhaps people related to the artist). Save your money for Radiohead

Wow! I was thinking typical gross lyrics but this was so good, it blew my mind! So jazzy and progressive. May you be smiling in Heaven, cause this is brilliant (and unexpected) I listened to it twice and then found “The Hot Rat Sessions” for a mind blowing set of studio cuts

This is an example of a relatively unheard of recording, that rocks. I loved it the first time I heard it and have loved it ever since.

Over played, almost every track has the same drum beat

Unfortunately this has not aged well, but I enjoyed it back in the day

There are so many great Blur recordings, and this is definitely one of them

Same old, nothing ground breaking

We bought this when it was released, and were blown away with so many amazing songs. 55 years later it is still so solid! Yes there are a few so-so efforts (like Honey Pie, Rev #9), however when you consider how many incredible songs are on this double LP: -Well my Guitar gently weeps -Helter Skelter - Obla de - Back in the USSR - I’m so tired - Dear Prudence - Sexy Sadie - Rocky Raccoon - Piggies - Julia - I will - Birthday - Revolution 1 - Mother Nature’s son Above all my favorite is Yer Blues “The eagle picks my eye The worm he licks my bone I feel so suicidal Just like Dylan's Mr. Jones Lonely Want to die If I ain't dead already Oh, girl, you know the reason why Black cloud crossed my mind Blue mist round my soul Feel so suicidal Even hate my rock and roll” This is truly one of my top 10!

A true master, but a lot of it sounds the same

Rod had one good LP, Every Picture tells a story. He has only written a handful of songs, and without Ron Wood he probably wouldn’t have made it. No wonder he had to switch to M.O.R. (Sap crap)

Not a big rap fan, but “The message “ and “White lines” are excellent.

Vintage Stones, love it all

Like a fine wine (nod to Gary/Geddy), this fine piece of craftsmanship only improves with time. All 3 musicians continue to improve and expand, it’s hard to believe 3 guys can create and replicate this live! The writing is solid, incredible bass lines, amazing guitar, and unimaginably sophisticated drums. Neil’s lyrics just keep getting better, how do they do it? Highlights for me have always been: Red Barchetta, Tom Sawyer, and YYZ (Toronto’ airport call letters) just blow me away.

Very interesting, never heard of this before, but listened to it twice

Words can’t express the joy of listening to this historical recording. The “Duke” is simply incredible and had assembled an amazing group of musicians.

Nothing new here

I got this when it came out and have loved it ever since. Of course Michelle and Norgian Wood are classics, but there are so many other great tunes that still hold up.

Very impressed by so many things on this recording, you can see why Bowie had such a successful long career. Ya I have heard Changes, Andy Worhal, oh you pretty thing, and Life on Mars many many times and always liked them. However there are so many other great guitar rifts (Eignt line Poem), and lyrics (Quicksand). Unfortunately a few duds held me back from a 5-star

It is so great to hear Neil Young, adding Crazy Horse is the icing on the cake. He has a huge catalog and this one doesn’t disappoint.

So many great tracks, one can feel his frustration having so many great songs written and rejected by other Beatles. The remastered version uncovers more of George’s backing vocals.

One of the worst things I have had the displeasure of waisting time on. Giving this even 1 star is pushing it

Absolutely fantastic I still love every track! This transcends time and beams me back to the early 70’s. Smoke on the Water is one of the stand out tracks of this period of time, but there are so many other great tracks: Lazy is a great boogie-woogie tune with incredible organ, Highway Star rocks, and who could forget the driving Space Trucking. Definitely 1 of my 10 island picks

How can you compare this to so many of the other albums on the list, TOP of the HEAP! Steely Dan just blows so many other recording artists away. The song Pretzel Logic is so good: “I stand upon the platform The man gave me the news: He said you must be joking son Where did you get those shoes?” The guitar solo rocks, the organ and the piano rhythms blend so well. The horns and guitar licks near the end, are the icing on the cake This is one of my favourite Dan tracks. Charlie Freak, so well written, and Rikki is outstanding. I would have given this a 5 star, but there are a number of weaker tracks

This is one of the best T-Rex albums, Marc Bolin’s writing and singing and great, but his guitar playing is even better

Very bold to go solo after so much success with Genesis. This recording has so many different beautiful elements. Here comes the flood still gives me a chill, it is an incredible song
