Light 8.9/10 Had to listen twice. Such a fun record Fav Tracks: Lean Woman Blues and Rip Off
This gets 3 Stars automatically for the band and album names. One of the strongest of all time. This is the album I would most likely listen to again.
Sure, David Bowie is better in every way, but come on, what would you rather listen to while driving at night?
Long overdue listen on this album, which has so many songs I already love. For a long time I thought this was a 90s record because it it’s so fuzzy and slinky. I wouldn’t say it’s super “glam” more like “glitzy.” I’m into it.
Pretty funky and good. Hadn't heard of this band and this is a bit better than a lot of the things I've heard that have been described as Glam Rock.
Toe tappingly good. Easy to digest and made the morning go quickly. I knew the one song!
One feels tempted to build a theory that T Rex were first slacker band, such is their looseness, chill-coolness and commitment to vibesiness. This is thoroughly diggable and right from the start – the calm shuffle of an opener, the waltzy understatement of "Cosmic Dancer," with its most judicious and tasteful use of strings. "Bang a Gong" may be the weakest song in the set, while "Life's a Gas" seems the best. When they open it up on "Rip Off" (wth somewhat skronky but fully effective horns), it comes off as a controlled sort of crescendo, a slightly chaotic closer. Strong candidate for best all-time (or maybe just top 10) glam album, though the more T-Rexstatic The Slider also has a shout. Special shout-out for "Monolith" making a cameo in the hilarious, hallucinogenic historical Cortes-meets-Montezuma novel by Alvaro Enrigue, which is well worth anyone's time [could even be one of 1,001 novels one must read before one dies].
Groovy
classic album made up from 4 good tunes
I never heard the whole album before. I was impressed.
7 out 10
Enjoyed
Классный глэм рок, нрав грув и клёвый малый барабан, свага присутствует. Слушал этот альбом ещё давно когда узнал что джустисы скомуниздили идею обложки, обложка кста крутая и джастис нормально так идею переиграли на своем дебютнике 7/10 Highlights: Mambo Sun; Monolith; Motivator
T. Rex is one of those sleeper artists who I've never listened to much but always like more than I expected to when I do.
Very fun. Makes for a great porch listen with friends.
Awesome record, has tons of flair. Love the guitar work and Marc Bolan's vocals are super distinctive and unique. I do think it starts to get a bit repetitive in the b-side but then the last two tracks might be the best on the whole album! Can see it growing to a 5 in time
Groovy, rockin', and a pleasure to hear. The guitar shines especially on this album. I could see myself driving down a long highway to most of these songs. It's some quintessential 60s/70s rock.
Overall a decent listen, very typical early 70s vibes for this era of rock. Jeepster, Mambo Star, Bang a Gong, and Lean Woman Blues are standouts.
Cool
No notes. Just swoon.
Better than the previous album. Sounded more varied and the bonus of the more familiar tracks
lol miles kane truly just remakes this album on repeat. 3.5 glad to hear the original
Great
T. Rex’s Electric Warrior is a cornerstone of glam rock, brimming with swagger, groove, and Marc Bolan’s distinctive mix of mysticism and playful sensuality. Tracks like Bang a Gong (Get It On) showcase the band’s ability to fuse rock riffs with glam flamboyance, while slower cuts such as Cosmic Dancer reveal surprising tenderness beneath the glitter. Though at times a bit repetitive in tone, the album’s charm and influence are undeniable, making it both a product of its era and a timeless listen.
Easy to see why this is a classic. I’m not personally into the whole glam/classic rock thing but this is undeniably catchy
I guess I made a mistake by always just sticking to the radio hits of this album. Pretty cool snapshot of glam rock in the early 70s, that I definitely plan to revisit in the years ahead.
Loved that. Bangers galore!
First time I have listened to the album complete, though I have heard many tracks stand alone.
Classic. And maybe underrated?
I liked it
I love Marc Bolan, I love his revival of RnR and boogie with sparkles and glitter. Lennon said about Bowie and glam that it was Rock n Roll with lipstick. The recipie will not last long but this album is worth it.
Pleasantly surprised by this. Knew very little T.Rex before listening to this album and I will be revisiting in future
I enjoyed most of this. Reminds me of some of the other albums on this list but I’m not sure which ones. Low 4.
Actually awesome
This album is one I’m very familiar with. In our rehearsal studio, we wore this album out and covered Mambo Sun and The Motivator in most of our sets. I think Mark Bolan was so influential on guitarists I have loved ever since, the early stages of Indie Rock.. Andy Wood, Frank Black and Britt Daniel come immediately to mind, but many more. I never considered this record ‘Glam Rock’ which it was widely considered to be. Either way, after listening for the first time in a while, I still love it. Really simple, but has a very unique vibe, which while influential, has not necessarily been duplicated. It’s a solid 4 for me, and has its place in my collection. That said after listening today, probably won’t pull it again for a long time. PS, classic album art, forever a recognizable image 👀
Electric Warrior by T. Rex is one of those classic album covers everyone recognizes. It’s often been described as glam “throwaway” music from the era. Yet the influence it had on artists like Andrew Wood (Mother Love Bone), The Smiths, and Nirvana is well documented. It’s fascinating how something once considered expendable ended up shaping so much of the music that followed. To be fair, I’ve always known the big songs from this album, but I can’t remember ever sitting down and listening to it all the way through. It was never a record I had strong feelings about one way or another. After two full listens, I was surprised by how much it grew on me. I genuinely enjoyed it. While there’s definitely a glam sheen, musically it leans more toward what we’d now think of as indie rock, with subtle funk touches in the rhythm section. I’m not sure it’ll enter my regular rotation anytime soon, but I definitely have a new appreciation for the album. Not just for its influence on artists I loved in my youth, but for the music itself.
Aika cool.
I know exactly one T.Rex song ('20th Century Boy') and it is not on this album. Luckily, these songs sound pretty similar to that one. Wait, never mind, I know exactly two T.Rex songs ('Cosmic Dancer')! Wait, never mind, of course I know three T.Rex songs ('Get It On')! In general, these songs have good energy, I don't mind this kind of guitar, and Bolan (what a name) has a fairly unique voice. Kinda Queenish (the band, not the gay thing -- although, that too (complimentary)). Apparently they at first went by "Tyrannosaurus Rex" but the execs thought it was too long of a name and/or difficult to pronounce (???). Perhaps this dinosaur was less well known in the 60s, at least in the UK - like pizza. Related fact I heard today: George Washington died not knowing about dinos, 'cause they were discovered in the mid 1800s. But 1971 is a long time after that (supposedly). These song titles mention lots of space themed things (sun, planets, cosmos) and yet this isn't considered space rock(??). Instead it's called glam rock, which seems more about the appearance of the artist than about the actual music. Perhaps the genre flow chart is like: Is the artist glam? if Y --> glam rock. If N --> do the songs mention astronomical themes? If Y ---> space rock. If N ---> categorize based on how the music actually sounds, I GUESS. Turns out M. Bolan also had a pretty tragic death (he didn't drive because of fear of car-death, then he died young in car-death (alcohol)). I suspect the odds of a 1001 Albums artist having a pretty tragic death are like 500% higher than the average musician (to say nothing of the average person). Anyway, that doesn't change my rating. I enjoyed this album more than the average 3, although perhaps not as much as the average 4. The important thing is, it's better than average, and fun to listen to, which is a good quality in an album. Highlight: 'Cosmic Dancer' (I like the background string arrangements), 'Life's a Gas', 'Hot Love' (this is a bonus track, but I love a hand-clap and a la-la-la), 'King of the Mountain Cometh' (I don't think I heard any songs about elves and wizards before starting this project; who knew there's so many!) Lowlights: 'Get It On' (Maybe it's just been overplayed, but I find the chorus too simplistic in an annoying way (not the content (probably half of the songs on this list are about getting it on), but the form (Lavigne-esque?!)), 'Girl' (sounds like Pink Floyd (=sleepy), although I do like the do-do-dos and the horns)
Great listen.
Great record. Marc Bolan and T-Rex are big but kinda flew under the radar. Big fan
Fun, I like the horns and orchestrated sound. Listened twice.
A real summer groover whose iconic cover somewhat belies the low key flow it gives off. The album is a snap shot of the band transitioning from fantasy folk rock the glam rock superstars. That being said, I would rather stab my eardrums to death than ever listen to Lean Women Blues again. All in all, it’s an underrated album from an under appreciated riff machine. Excellent primer for The Slider album that would knock it out of the park next. 4/ 5
ok woah. this reminded me of born in the usa bruce springstien but done more laid back and a little more experimental. really enjoyed this listen. life’s a gas is peak.
nice. it's zeitlos
Very good album but not as many top tier songs so holds it back from being a five star album.
Bang a gong get it on bang a gong
At first listen, T.Rex songs kind of sound the same, & are kind of simple, but there’s a lot packed into each song. Electric Warrior was T.Rex’s 2nd album & it essentially created Glam Rock in the 70s. Without Electric Warrior, we have no Ziggy Stardust, & most certainly no Sweet & Slade & all the other clones trying to capitalize on the T.Rex formula, rock riffs, androgenous fashion and just being rock gods. Electric Warrior is a mix of folk, hard rock and strings. This album also features a song that everyone has heard, "Bang a Gong (Get It On)". The rest of the album is based on a similar groove, the Marc Bolan groove, who was T.Rex. Bolan created this movement after several tries at becoming a rock god. The whole album is a standout, but Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster, Bang a Gong, Planet Queen are my faves. This is an album you for sure must listen to before you die. Plus it has one of the coolest album covers ever.
Pretty chill
I like the blues feel to this album
Nice classic rock.
This is #day354 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… here's one of those records that always shows up on must-hear lists, but you never actually get around to until you do. Well, here we are. What I'm hearing is how this might've influenced Bowie's Aladdin Sane era. Same glam rock feel, touches of jazzy blue-eyed soul, and bluesy elements woven in. The sound is tight and distinctive, and the whole record flows well. What I found particularly interesting is the semi-whispery kind of vocals against the seemingly non-matching sonic backdrop. I've said this before with a few albums, but I'll say it again: I bet this sounds delicious on vinyl. My personal highlights are "Cosmic Dancer" and "Bang a Gong (Get It On)," though there's plenty more to dig into. I'm giving it a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day355.
Dope
I was aware of t Rex for quite a while but I have never ever heard anything by them so I went in completely blind. And I was not expecting what I got at first. I thought they were more hard rock like zep or something similar but I got a more old-school almost Beatles ish thing. Or at least that era. I won't lie it threw me for a loop for a bit. But I got there eventually. I enjoyed the 2nd half quite alot and if I relisten to the 1st half I'll bet im on it too. Bang a gong everyone knows and I didn't even know thats what it was saying until seeing the title. Its a good one. There are some kinda metaly growls at parts and maybe even a bit of proto punk vibes at times too. It took some time for me to get going here but ive really enjoyed the time spent here. I hope to get some more Rex at some point
I love how rock & roll musicians in the 70s were able to play in a way that's slow loose and so tight. It's an incredible talent
3.5 - Good
Fresh and atemporal rock that puts many more popular rock albums to shame.
Love T REX Good disk
"Is it wrong to understand The fear that dwells inside a man?" Yeah he was in his bag when he wrote that. This album as a whole ks pretty good, some songs feel filler to me but the rest are actually pretty good. I see myself listening to this again and again.
Genre: Glam Rock Like John Lennon said, Glam Rock is just rock n roll with lipstick on it. T. Rex rips it on this, showcasing blues and straightforward rock with just a twist of glam. Really nicely done. I enjoyed this quite a bit. 4/5
Marc Bolan and T. rex.
Cool, funky and interesting with some really great tracks sprinkled in. Not surprising that many other bands I like have been influenced by them. Solid album that I have already listened to again.
Great collection of songs. Cosmic Dancer will always remind me of Billy Elliott
I would say if you like T Rex’s singles (and I do), you’ll like this whole album (and I do). If I had to say anything, Rip Off’s rockier sound doesn’t fit quite so well with the rest; sounds less T Rex and more Roxy Music. But at least there’s no novelty song!
Liked this, get it on is a classic
Love Forgive the repetition 4.55
Yes. Fin å skru terrasse til.
A great singles band with some pretty mediocre filler. Another argument against the ban on greatest hits. Get it on is fucking poetry. Jeepster would have been many other bands best song. But Marc was to write greater stuff. 5 for the singles. 2 for the filler. I’ll call it 3.5.
Great album. Birth of Glam rock, but the songs are strong as well and still hold up today. Production is great, still sounds fresh
I enjoyed it a lot, I really love this British Glam rock, it reminded me of Ziggy Stardust in a way. A very fun listen, the first half is much stronger than the latter. fav tracks: tracks 1-6 4/5
I liked this album, which makes sense given that it was their debut into more pop rock. I don’t know if it’s just me but I wish the vocals were turned up a tad throughout though, at times they were hard to make out. Songs I liked enough to add to Spotify: Girl Bang a Gong (Get it on) Hot Love
70s beatles vibes
Albummet som introducerede glam rock og inspirerede kunstnere som Prince og David Bowie og Roxy Music. En af producerne er også ham som arbejdede sammen med David Bowie på hans albums. Fuser Boogie rock, rock and Roll og psychedelia.
This album takes itself the exactly right amount of seriously
A pleasant glam rock offering. I wonder if it will stay in my rotation for longer. Weird that Bowie could make it great, but T. Rex doesn't sound like trying to make it big.
got me focused on work, pretty cool sounds
Ist ein gutes rock album. Kannte nur das get it on Lied davor aber der rest ist großteils genauso gut. Gibt immer wieder erfrischende Elemente. Ganz knapp eine 4/5
I liked this a lot more than I expected. I really know nothing about the band, but this album was a good time in general.
4/5.
Loved it. Another saved album.
Good album, this - a really solid early glam blast, with some really great tunes. The flow feels a bit off for me, and that stops it being a 5, but it is really close. Definitely a keeper.
Great album! Life’s A Gas is an amazing song <3
great hits
Good, catchy. Holds up.
Really enjoyed listening to this, held back by some production and musical choices that date the album but in other instances those choices really enhance and make some songs timeless. Some quite good deep cuts on this album that make this an overall fun listen and didn’t feel the need to skip songs
I thought this was a fun album. I knew Get it on, and Cosmic Dancer sounded very familiar.
Overall some glammy goodness! “Mambo Sun” sounds like Brothers-era Black Keys, aka when they were good. Highlights: “Bang a Gong”, “Life’s a Gas”, “Rip Off”
I can’t believe I’d never really dug into T Rex until a little while ago. What a cool-ass band. Fantastic, dynamic vocals. A sound that was way ahead of its time. Lots of influence in later music I enjoy. No turds in this record at all.
glam rock is not really my favorite genre especially when its as nicely produced as this is … i like me a freaky lofi glam rock album… that being said i appreciate this album and respect it a lot even though it isn’t for me and even though it’s not for me there’s a handful of songs i love on this :)
Good
Mocne 4
You never really hear about this band in the wild, which is odd for how good this sounds.
Hell yeah, love this one.
4/5
liked it
Yeah man, I can dig it
T Rex brings me joy. Classic riffs. I wouldn’t say there is filler here but the big songs hit big
Hadn't heard most of this. First two tracks are brilliant (Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer), rest is pretty good
Enjoyed this album a lot. Definitely atuck in its time but fun. Lots of good music and lyrics. T-Rex rocked the guitar and gave us some great glam rock.
A classic. Not sure I've ever listened to the album as a whole before, but I knew just about every song by heart.
There are some bands, who due to creative differences, or tragedy, only have a small pocket of time in music history that make their mark. Sometimes it's just that flavor of the month, or they just pump out hit after hit and then they are done, much like the Beatles. I love these little music pockets. I feel they are there for a reason, to shape music trajectory, and create new sound and influences for generations to come. CCR is another good example and T. Rex, definitely fits in that category. T. Rex went as far as ditching their previous psychedelic folk sound and was a driving force behind the early 70s Glam Rock movement. You always have to wonder what T. Rex would be in modern times if tragedy did not take Marc Bolan from this world. But again, it's those pocket moments in time that make you one of the legends.
This is def a bop, enjoyed hearing this every time I played it , I think I just like glam rock … it’s groovy and fun
3.5
I almost would give it a five but it got a bit too repetitive after a while
🦖🎸🥁🎤 jeepster
I don’t like this one quite as much as the other one I’ve heard on here, largely because the hits have been somewhat ruined for me by their presence in commercials.
Great voice for an animal apr 66 million years old
Silly, sexy, and fun. 3.5 rounded up
Great album
What a joyous, fun sound, with many hippie flavors and textures. And Bang a Going and Jeepster always deliver.
good for background listening
It's like the Beatles but make them more glam? Kind of a fun, refreshing album for the era. 4* Highlights: bang a gong (actually pretty good)
What an awesome glam rock album! The real rock and roll feel with the brilliance of Marc Bolan is sweet as. Get It On is a great hit track too, great listen.
Really nice to hear
I have already listened to this one. The hits: Planet Queen Life's a Gas Rip Off Solid, 8/10
Good varied use of musical textures. Really good start two songs in. Less out there than I might have hoped given their reputation, but this is so early and the ways it prefigures a lot of popular music to come is noteworthy. In general, I really liked this. A lot of interesting ideas, just a bit too disjointed for me to give it the full 5 stars.
This one was good, just a little too weird for my taste. I like the guitar a lot. My favorite was Jeepster. Rating - 7.5
Increíble banda de Glam Rock. Un super talento el de Bolan y compañía, un disco imprescindible de los setentas.
Great, slinky, glam-rock from the master of the form. Some great songs of course--"Ger It On (Bang a Gong)," "Jeepster," " Mambo Moon"--and some more forgettable ones. Nothing too earth-shaking, just a fun, scuzzy record
Love some T Rex. Experts at toeing the line between Bowie-esque glam and classic rock n roll a la Elvis and Chuck Berry. Gets a bit samey but this has the best songs they ever did
Sounds a lot like Bowie
The most underrated band of all time. This is the start of glam rock and it's brilliant.
01) Mambo Sun - 9,0 02) Cosmic Dancer - 9,0 03) Jeepster - 9,0 04) Monolith - 9,0 05) Lean Woman Blues - 8,0 06) Get It On - 10,0 07) Planet Queen - 9,0 08) Girl - 8,0 09) The Motivator - 9,0 10) Life's a Gas - 8,5 11) Rip Off - 7,5 TOTAL: 8,73 (87/100) Current ranking: 77/556
Mostly great album with a lot of terrific songs but a few stinkers.
Wasn't mostly unfamiliar with T. Rex besides just knowing they are a rock band so it was exciting when Get It On came on and I thought "oh duh I know this one." Guitars and drums rip on this album (obviously) and I can definitely see myself listening to this again. Liked songs: Mambo Sun, Lean Woman Blues, Get It On, Life's A Gas (loved), and Hot Love.
A first time hearing this album. I actually found this at a local record store at a nice price only about a month ago. I didn't really have any idea what to to expect... And it wasn't what I was expecting. No regrets on the purchase, will be getting more spins! 7.5/10
Great fun. The Slider took some time to grow on me, but this one I liked right away.
I only knew Bang A Gong before listening to this but it is an enjoyable album. Singer tries too much to sound like Bowie at times but overall the songs work.
quick hitters, awesome punk meets garage sentiment. Mick's Picks ~ JEEPSTER, MAMBO SUN (earworm hooks galore), MONOLITH
Liked it a lot and didn’t realize I knew them until bang a gong
The realization that this is the group that did Bang a Gong hit like a gong. Very fun music
You can draw a glam rock line from this to Lady Gaga
4/5 i like
An album that's intangibly good, but also pretty frustrating. Pretty dirty. Had no idea the two hits that I recognized were from the same album.
Some weird bonus tracks, but I mostly enjoyed this.
This is a good album and worth the listen. Only really knew the hit bang a gong. There’s some other good tunes on this album can definitely hear David Bowie styles…
Apparemment c'est l'album qui a lancé le glam. Si le genre s'en était tenu à ça, ça serait resté un genre respectable.
Having just had The Slider a couple weeks ago I can safely say that this album is much better. On the whole it just feels so much more unique and interesting, and sounds less like it's failing at copying Bowie, and rather sounds like it's using its Bowie influence incredibly well.
this was super cool!! multiple songs sounded like the start of Brokedown Palace
4.1 3x took me a few listens to appreciate but it's really solid
classic
This is the sister album to Ziggy Stardust
Jeepster – thoroughly enjoyed this song for the first time. Funny. Get It On is pretty damn great, even with all the over-play it has gotten over the decades. Surprised at the ‘Bowie-ness’ of this record. Sometimes has a 60s feel and sometimes a ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ vibe.
This one sounds fantastic even this many years later. Great songwriting, wonderfully arranged. Can't believe I'd only heard Get It On off this one before. Bangers throughout. Hot Love ftw.
the sexy smooth start of glam rock, I like it
4/5
Love the swagger
What great music! Never heard of it I thought, until I heard Get it on. Of course I knew that song. The entire album is recommended.
super fun
Good music and really crazy that this album released in ‘71. Extra points for basically inventing glam rock
Wow! I can't believe I haven't listened to this before now. I loved every minute! Bang a Gong (Get it On) is the only track I had heard (I'm pretty sure everyone has probably heard this song at least once) and it's not even close to the best song on the album! Definitely going to be coming back to listen to more T Rex in the future. Favourite tracks: Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer, Bang a Gong (Get it On), Girl, Rip Off
First deep dive into T.Rex and it was nice. Easy listening but you can almost hear Bolans glam.
I am going to round up from a 3.5 to a 4. While I didn’t enjoy every song, I did enjoy the majority and there are a couple of classics on this album. The band seems out of the norm for early 70’s.
70s bowiesque glammy,w blues groove
I really liked it, very cool 70s glam sound without being too cheesy.
A rhythmic groovy cornucopia of good tunes!
83% Best: Mambo Sun; Monolith; Bang a Gong (Get It On); The Motivator; Rip Off Must-Hear? Sure
This was amazing. What a classic sound! Obviously, Get It On is a banger we all know and love, but I found the rest of this album just as enjoyable. You can really hear Bolan's influences and also how he made them his own. This is the perfect album for anyone with an appreciation for that classic rock vibe.
Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background Loose and fun.
Good album b side best side
Great album, apparently their first of this type, keep em coming. T Rex, nice!
I've gotten to the point I dread seeing yet another 60s-70s psych rock album. A genre I enjoy but is over represented on this list. So a good test of an album of this genre is that even though I groaned seeing this album pop up (I've not listened to it before) I really enjoyed it.
Why have I never listened to a T Rex album in full when I've loved all the singles I've heard? Upbeat instruments, iconic vocals, big thwacking melodies.
Have heard at least 3-4 songs previously. Easy to listen to. Enjoyed it!
I've loved the song Cosmic Dancer for years and can't really explain why. This album has a consistent feel. It's a cool listen. Listen to it sometime.
The first time I heard of them was from The Who song lyrics "But I drunk myself blind to the sound of old T-Rex", but I didn't think much of it until I read the manga 20th Century Boys. Then I realized that it was a band. Hmm cool opening track. Whoa, okay Cosmic Dancer. I know I've heard this song, I like it. Some really good compositions here. The production is lacking. I wish the sound was more dynamic. I might try to circle back on this album. I have a hunch it could be a grower.
Tämä oli kiva uusi tuttavuus. Oli mukavasti vaihtelua ja äänenlaatu hyvä. Monessa kohtaa tuli Beatles mieleen.
Tykkäsin!
Nää Bolanin jutut on välillä niin sekavia ettei oo kyllä ittenkään tajunnu mitä on tehnyt. Mut pelkkä Get it on on jo niin kova biisi et nostaa koko arviota ja muutama muukin kiva ralli
5. would listen again but not on yt music, so 4??
Was thinking it was a decent but unremarkable album until get it on came on- quite like that one. Guitar is much better than the singing Specific rating - 3.9 Fav song- get it on Least fav- girl
T-Rex is such a cool band and I only ever really known their one hit bang a gong, but listening to this whole album was awesome I really liked a lot of the songs a good classic rock album!
Great band. Great listen
Unglaublich gut, erinnert stark an the black keys, aber halt das og weil aus den 70ern
Awesome album, but definitely dated.
I always hear them listed as an influence but have never listened previously. Really cool album
Guitar driven hard rock album with lots of blues influences. I recognized Mambo Sun and Get It On, but Jeepster was also great. I really enjoyed listening to this but it didn't quite hook me the same way some of the standouts on this list have.
I had to suffer poor audio on this one and had to rush it which was sad. Limited time. Will revisit later. Enjoyed the variety.
I like this because I like the beats and the voice of the singers. I would recommend this because I feel like people would like it. I give it 4 stars.
Why is the band called T-rex? I liked "Get It On Bang A Gong" was good. I liked the signing and the instrumentation. "Planet Queen" was okay. I liked the drums. The singing voice was nice. I liked "The Motivator." The guitar was really good. I also like the singing voice. I would recommend this album.
the first song is good I like the start of it and I just like how it sounds in general I think I should listen to this band and add some songs on to my playlist I also like how they also had piano in it. the next song is also good I like the start with the drums and then the slow start with the words and I also like how it sounds with the instruments I also like the transitions from the slower words to the faster and louder words. the last song is also good the start sounds like it would be in a song from the is this it album by the strokes the rest of the song is good I like how it sounds. overall I would recommend.
Pretty decent, Cosmic Dancer and Get It On both outstanding tracks
This is so good. I listened to it at least 5 times today. Smooth, funky, psychedelic—and reminds me of a hot day.
Heard of T.Rex but never listened! I liked They were very clearly an influence on The Black Keys Fun album!
This guy has a really cool sound. Way gentler than I expected for a band called T. Rex. Not sure how often I’ll return to this, but it’s good.
Never heard them earlier but nice bops!!!
Really great album that I had never heard before.
Great LP cover, no? Hipgnosis! the internet tells me. The violins on Cosmic Dancer are absurd and ruinous, but Jeepster makes it interesting again. The jammy laid-back grooviness is a great lead-in to the dirty sweet of Bang a Gong, which continues. What a gas.
Glam Rock at its best. Marc Bolan at his most beautiful.
This was drifting into 5-star territory. I really appreciate Marc Bolan's ability to create a mood and vibe and be so edgy with barely a whisper. Buried in the mix, his vocals draw you in and submerge you in the music. And the musical parts all sound simple enough — beyond the backward tracking and psychedelic swirls — which speaks to a certain genius. It's not easy to craft simple songs that are really good. And these are really good tunes. Alas, this was another album that started running out of really solid new ideas after the apex of "Bang A Gong" (there was another track that sounded too similar to that track), but Bolan's abstract poetry and soft-spoken confidence is endearing and enduring. I'm going to keep digging for the bones of T. Rex.
I never especially cared for/about T.Rex, though yesterday's listen was fun. I dug how chill, groovy, and off-kilter it was. i got a bit tired of it towards the end. the compositions are a little too basic for my tastes, though the arrangements often kept things interesting and his lyrics are fun and playful. it's probably more of a 3.5 but I'm rounding up just cause I like their verve. (if you haven't already, check out their earlier folk incarnation, Tyrannosaurus Rex. very weird and fun.)
I knew a few of the hits and have always enjoyed the distinct vocals and crunchy guitar.
This album has a very timeless and catchy quality. Simple yet groovy tunes.
For Christmas 1974, my Aunty and Uncle bought me a T-Rex compilation album called 'Get It On' which had a lot of these tracks on. I was 10 and couldn't hide my disappointment. I didn’t really know T-Rex or care for that sort of music at that age. When I got older I realised how shitty it feels when you give a present to a kid and they hate it, and what a spoiled brat I must have seemed. Now that being said, 10 year olds are musically immature fools. This album is chock full of glam rock bangers. Cosmic Dancer I’ve not heard for years and is a standout. Even the filler between the hits is great. So I apologise to my now dead Aunty Eileen and Uncle Alf. What a fucking ungrateful idiot I was.
I don't know what classic rock means but I hope it's this. This album artfully combines rock drums and riffs with some super chill tones which results in a super smooth vibey sound. Type of music to drink to at a bartop.
This feels very classic rock, but also kinda funky and groovy I like the variety in songs, and the extended jams at some of the endings of the songs. Standouts: Cosmic Dancer, Get it On, m, Hot Love
Maybe its the way i was raised but Glam fucking slaps and i love this. Some banging tunes, great energy, light and shade in the album, quality everywhere.
groovy
Very good, glam rock album. Really is the standard for glam rock albums. 4.5/5
This was sweet! It feels like a real "rock" album. It has some blues influence, r&B, and psych elements. You can really hear the influence that T. Rex had on Bowie in a lot of songs too. This is just pleasant, I enjoyed every song.
T Rex is top tier “glam” rock! One of the greats.
Really good album— lots of different styles. This is the album that broke my left earbud. Was it chance? Who knows? Life’s a gas!

-the first one of these songs that I can play on my record player! !Thanks again Darrel for the LP copy! _remembering the first play, didnt realize how old an album it was and how long I had subconsciously heard it over the course of my life. -Pretty solid rock & roll music, style-wise. -GET IT ON! BANG A GONG! -Just a bit of 'Space Rock' feel like Steve Miller Band..
It's fun to imagine how this album must've landed in its time — 1971, my birth year. It was kind of a stylistic shift from Tyrannosaurus Rex's early hippy stuff, yet the mystical flourishes to Marc Bolan's songs may have appealed to the more adventurous-minded members of that waning scene. Plus, rock and roll was evolving into new forms. And it's *just* tough enough to appeal to fans of Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and other hard rock and heavy metal acts of that era (though his wearing of makeup and high heels probably made a lot of those burnouts reluctant to admit it). Fun fact: Longtime Bowie collaborator Tony Visconti produced this album, which I did not previously know but definitely tracks.
When the mid 1980s bands like Duran Duran were new, they would list their influences as Bowie, Roxy music, and T Rex. At the time I'd never heard of T rex and when I finally heard them, I didn't entirely get it. It wouldn't be the first time a band was huge in the UK and virtually unknown in the US, and I guess Bolan had to be dead for 10+ years before Bang a Gong ascended to Classic Rock radio. What I'm saying is that T rex was kinda tabula rasa for me because I'd gone my entire life without hearing their material until I was 15 or so. Anyway, I own this record. I like it okay. Probably more on the list for it's influence. Like a lot of glam rock, the records are never as engaging as the live performances and the LPs are never as good as the singles. One wonders if 50 year old Bolan would have ascended to Bowie levels of recording godhead, or burned out like Sweet or Slade.
What a coincidence! I literally just had "Jeepster" stuck in my head like 30 minutes ago.. wack. Such a great record. Its so groovy and sexy. "Mambo Sun", "Cosmic Dancer", and "Jeepster" is an insane run of songs especially at the very beginning of the album. Then later you get "Get It On"?? Absolutely timeless. Favorite track: Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer
I liked the bluesy songs. A pretty good album. Mambo Sun, Jeepster, and Lean Woman Blues were standout tracks.
I liked this one overall. I think it’s one of my favourite 70s rock albums I’ve heard so far on this journey.
The album has a unique sound that he molds to each song, making the album interesting and diverse throughout. The lyrics are repetitive at times, maybe a little silly, but not distracting overall. I liked that he played with several genres a bit.
Straight forward bluesy rock.
Albums like this are the reason I keep coming back to this list. A good album that I can listen to and come out the other side feeling like it was worth my ear time to listen to and will try and listen to more of their songs. New discoveries are what keeps this thing going for me.
Me da un poco de rabia, no sé por qué, pero me gusta bastante al mismo tiempo.
Seem ahead of their time. Nonsensical, poetic lyrics. Fresh perspective. Fun instrumentals. Eclectic, creative feel. Soulful elements. I like how distinctive this is.
i danced myself right out the womb
4.5
Includes the classic Bang a Gong; the whole album is solid
Very nice album, cool and vibey and my favourite songs were Lean Woman Blues, which had a great guitar solo at the end, but the song that I've jammed to the most is Get It On, and you can tell that it is the most popular one because of the hundreds of millions of listens more, compared to the other songs. Overall, great album.
Great glam sound.
Simple, catchy, great rock
The prototype of Glam Rock, mostly, I mean "Bang A Gong" and maybe "Jeepster", a lot of it is still like their early folky stuff. But its a pleasant listen.
takovej jendovskej rokec
I went into this being like "I don't think I actually know that many T.Rex songs??" But then I knew like every song on the album. So shows what I know I guess. Clearly this is my kinda music.
Really enjoyed this album. It got a little repetitive towards the end, but still great groove.
Really good. Nice guitar.
I liked this album a lot. Definitely in the indie rock genre of today to me but more in the 'classic rock' category just by being released in 1971. Bang a Gong (Get It On) was the only song I recognized but I did enjoy most of the album. It's not one I am likely to reach for often in the future but I'm glad I listened to all of it.
Strong glam rock album with a diverse sound, 7/10
This is rock and roll! Stellar album.
Expected Bang a Gong but surprised by the how good the rest of it was. Mambo Sun is very good.
Really enjoyed this. I've heard some of the songs before but never the whole thing - what a sexy, sleazy blast.
Not as good as the Slider, but still great.
Good album overrall
Svinbra, första gången jag lyssnade på hela albumet. Första halvan är nog bäst, de mindre kända spåren ger mig mer än klassikerna
Pretty cool. Reminds me of the Beatles but with more drugs.
This was fun.
Explains the "British 70s Rock" guitar tone. Some Elvis vibes, Cosmic Dance seems like a precursor to both Starman and Rocket Man
Classic glam rock
4/5 stars realy fun album. Has a little bit of a beatels tone just a bot o More modern. My type of music some famous hits.
pretty good!
Real fun
Lots of fun. This album could have come out in 2015 and been a hit with the indie/alt crowd.
A fun rock album, maybe even one of the first Glam albums. Definitely influential and worth listening.
When I think of Glam rock, I usually think of Bowie. T. Tex is making me reconsider that. I had a good time with this one.
Non lo conoscevo, bello 👍🕳️🙋
Sexy
Just learned about Marc Bolan, rest in peace! Late-60's hippy counterculture is a topic I want to learn more about. Tasteful band blend, fire drum fills that aren't overbearing. Insanely chill vibes from the vocals in some of these songs (e.g., Life's a Gas).
ERg chill
Rating: 7.5/10 Very unique sound, cool guitar tone, and chill vocals.
Блестяще
T. Rex is really interesting, complex, and fun musically. It just feels to me that the tracks are not songs, but sonic experiments. The sound great, and have a nice groove, but they don't catch on the way singles normally do. Still, fun to listen to and digest.
Gonna be 5 but half way through got boring a good 4
Everything before get it on was alright, everything after fucking RULED
This is a 4.5. Highly enjoyable. Never realised his voice was so like Bowie’s.
Goeie 3.7
an album jampacked with catchy songs and emotive 70s performances
This is one of those albums I picked up in my early 20s after a friend at the music store recommended it as something influential. At the time, I didn’t really get why it was so important—it just sounded like classic dad rock to me. But once I learned more about its influence on glam rock and the context of its release in 1971, I gained a real appreciation for it. This album didn’t just contribute to glam rock, but it helped define it, both musically and visually. Marc Bolan’s persona and unique sense of fashion played a big role in shaping the look and feel of the genre.
Listened to this on a Sunday night which feels like the perfect timing. An album which doesn't do too much but is a pleasant listening experience nonetheless. Sometimes an album like this can have bad tracks but I didn't find that with Electric Warrior; in fact, I actually enjoyed Get It On more when played within the context of this album.
Enjoyed this more than I thought, would listen again. Bang a Gong is a classic, but I also really liked Mambo Sun and Cosmic Dancer and a few other cuts. A solid one!
4 Sehr stark Classic coolen vibe stimmig im Durchlauf
Well, this'll be a way simpler and shorter one to write about than the one my group got yesterday. This is just glam rock — what's widely agreed as being the first glam rock album, as a matter of fact — and, hey, if I'm the kinda person who thinks glam metal rules, you can only imagine I feel similar about its 70's predecessor. And, yeah, I do think this album is fun: straight up, plain ol' unpretentious fun. There's not much I really feel like I hafta discuss. You just listen to the guitar, the horns, the vocals — you get it. I don't think it's too hard to hear why the British fell so hard in love with glam rock. If I have any problem with it, I think it honestly has to do with the fact that it's the first. To be clear, that's no fault of the album; everything has to start somewhere. But comparing it to everything that came out after it, I'unno, ELECTRIC WARRIOR somehow feels a little too restrained, largely? I mean, you gotta understand that my sense of glam rock comes from, y'know, "Ballroom Blitz", "Crocodile Rock" and ZIGGY STARDUST. Those are all pretty wild takes on glam rock — and in the case of "Ballroom Blitz", damn manic — and besides "Bang A Gong (Get It On)", I don't think anything here really achieves those heights. "Ride A White Swan" and "20th Century Boy", stand-alone singles released before and after this album, both achieve way better what I want from this genre. Still, even then, I'd be a fool to give this album anything lower than a 4. Even if I wouldn't call it "classical glam rock" in the same way I'd call Black Sabbath's debut "classical metal" or Dr. Dre's THE CHRONIC "classical G-funk," there's no denying that this album is a good, fun time. At worst, it's just not exactly what I'd jump to first, which, again, isn't even its fault. So... I'unno. Go bang this gong and get it on for y'self.
Things within the realm of late 60s-mid 70s English psychedelic/glam/hard rock/etc are usually total slogs for me, so I was expecting very little from this album. I actually quite liked it. Compared to similar albums of its time and place, “Electric Warrior” feels more relaxed and more melodic. The album as a whole feels incredibly modern and like it has less to prove than its peers. I especially liked the first two tracks and even “Lean Woman Blues”, even though tracks with “blues” in the title from anyone but bona fide blues artists are usually a total miss for me. My biggest complaint about this album is that by the last ~third of the album, it feels a bit repetitive. “The Motivator” just feels like a rehashing of “Bang a Gong”, for example. But overall, I would listen to this again. 8/10
Reminds me of all the bands that referenced this album.
Matala 4
GROOVY
T. Rex has been on my "to-listen" list forever, and I'm very glad to finally have put it on. Super catchy all the way through, and I can really hear the influence it had on so many of my favorites.
Net lekker buiten gelopen met koptelefoon op, kwam goed binnen
Great guitar tones, chill choruses. Super underrated classic. Its just alittle dry. It's not boring, that is not the correct description, its just alittle dry, it could use a refreshing change in genre or direction on one song. But seriously if you like old school classic rock, this is perfect.
The list keeps giving me irony bombs. T Rex after Muddy Waters?? Similar to Jack White, I do like that Bolan doesn't pretend he's not biting folks like Howlin' Wolf. Feels like love to me. And he's generally kinda just like The Ramones or any artist who does one thing well. As long as that one thing works, that's all you need. Keep bangin that gong.
Top 3 Glam Rock album of all time
This was actually really good
Interesting listen. Few songs later on that were a bit meh to me, but the good stuff is very good. 76/100, low 4*. Cosmic Dancer as favourite.
“Mambo Sun”, “Cosmic Dancer”, “Jeepster” and “Bang A Gong (Get It On)” are the standout tracks. Wonderful glam rock that seems to be trippy and laidback while also rocking. Though some of the slang has aged, the songs still seem vital, trippy and fun.
Great album. Only knew 2-3 songs from T-Rex before this and I wish I had have checked them out sooner. 70 albums in and so far this is my favourite.
Some big riffs and good songs. Didn't sound quite like I expected, but I did check out more of their music after listening to this.
Liked it! Had never heard of this guy.
4/5. I remember not getting into this for a while, maybe I was expecting something different with that album cover that goes hard. After researching the year, and the history of T-Rex as a band, it makes sense the songs coming from the album. It's categorized as glam rock and I can definitely see David Bowie and Prince taking influence from this. The album is not perfect but I do enjoy the innovative songwriting and music. Depending on the day, I might like it less or more but it feels like a good album nonetheless. Best Song: Get It On, Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster
I like this record a lot, but I find it very very repetitive. T Rex basically have three songs - but if you like those three songs you will really enjoy this. I love Mambo Sun and Monolith, and Cosmic Dancer is one of my favourite songs of all time. I think this one is definitely worth a listen but I would call it a 4/4.5 at best.
Solid rock album. Good chops on the vocalist. I knew Get It On. Listened to it at work, so I missed a couple of the standouts. Standouts: Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer, Monolith, Get It On, and Life’s A Gas.
I thought the first couple of tracks on this album were awful, but it improved after that. I don't feel compelled to add it to my Tidal library, but I enjoyed it enough to listen again in the future. Four stars.
There are so many bangers on this record. Overall, I think the Slider is a better album all around (no filler/fat), but this has some of my favorites on it.
Good album to be on the list! Classic rock n roll with attitude and even sassiness. The only thing i would have asked is a bit of variation, it felt very monotonous… but it was part of the times. I love the so contained and nead guitar sound, so tight and right. I do not think it’s a
Fun and jaunty
Couple of duff tracks but otherwise a lot of fun
I like it but don’t know why
bang a gong get it on. a different version of a 70s rock
Really enjoyed this album, feels like a good mix of many different early 70s sounds. Cosmic Dancer and Monolith were definite standouts for me. Both had some amazing guitar effects. If it was a bit more consistent I would give this a 5/5.
I used to love Marc Bolan - especially given his tragic early death just around the corner from my Gran's house. Summer is heaven in 77 and all that. Works best as a greatest hits as he had some banging singles but quality threshold dips across the albums
Pretty good. Had a nice vibe. Bang a Gong is a classic of course.
cosmic dancer is the perfect night drive song plant queen is such a vibe bang a gong is a classic i fell asleep to it twice now dawg but good listen
Nice
T. Rex albums just seem to radiate fun. The only track I recognised here was Get It On (by the way, listen to Cigarettes & Alcohol by Oasis… it’s the same song). Every other track has the same levels of old school fun glam rock and resulted in an all around good time. A highlight for me was Jeepster. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it was just a really fun song! There is no virtuoso playing and nothing outrageously complex, but lordy lord this is still a very good album.
Close to sublime easy listening
4/5

This is a great album from start to finish. I love Bolan’s voice and guitar-work.
