Easy listening. Soft, indie.
Favourite Track Poor Places
Fanatastic thrash metal.
Favourite track: Breaking the Law
Rob Halford | Metal God : Responsible for the leather look in metal.
I am not the intended audience. Good music.
Always an enjoyable album to listen to. Never tire of hearing this album
Favourite tracks: Mambo Sun | Bang a Gong (Get it On)
Enjoyable album
Favourite Track: 13
Enjoyable album. Sounds very similar to older U2
Great music. Proof that music transcends language. Enjoyable start to finish.
Good clean electronic music. Does not stand up well in the midst of other EBM/Post-Industrial scene artists and music. Nothing of note track wise. Wonderful for background/ambient music. Non-intrusive.
Fantastic punk album. The more you listen to it the more you want to listen to it.
Thoroughly enjoyable album from start to finish. Great to listen to whether you are paying full attention, or playing in the background.
Groundbreaking. Unique. Enjoyable.
Solid album start to finish. There is a reason that Buddy Holly was so influential in the music industry.
Enjoyable experience. Wonderful album. Beautiful.
shoegaze is shoegaze is shoegaze. Like how subpop will always be subpop.
Very unique. Many good hooks. A few earworms. Overall enjoyable album.
Album could be classified as a sampler. Each song is a little different than the other. Would be a stronger album if it was more cohesive, or had a direction. Enjoyable nonetheless.
Solid album. There is a reason Bruce Springsteen is the boss. Album gets better and better each time you listen to it.
Well made, and quite enjoyable. After listening a few times it grows on you. You will find yourself humming songs from the album.
An album that is enjoyed by all that listen to it. Definitely a good choice to add to any music collection.
White Stripes are always enjoyable. Can be listened to over and over again.
Very unique. Can hear the proto pieces of many other genres. Well done start to finish.
Another album reminding us how important Neil Young is within the music community. Great album.
Music for the love of making music. So chaotic, and raw, yet has direction and purpose. The unfinished feeling of the album only adds to the wonderfulness of the album.
Metallica's finest work. A great album that is as good today as it was when released. ...And Justice For All, except for Jason Newsted.
Such a great album. Will definitely be adding this to my music library.
That album is filled with delicious 90s hip-hop. Scratching, sampling, fast pace, all the earmarks of an early hip-hop album. Truly a treat to listen to.
Solid album start to finish. Great songs, well produced.
Well put together. Jack really shows off his ability to write and produce amazing music.
Fantastic album start to finish. Some of the most recognizable Kraftwerk songs. There is a reason this is a must listen.
shoegaze is shoegaze is shoegaze. Makes one think of sitting in a room of pot smokers listening to shoegaze and discussing how deep and philosophical they are. Talking about how I don't understand the meaning of anything, when the only thing I don't understand is why people listen to shoegaze.
Unique album, albeit it is dated. The music and lyrics seem to be going in their own directions at times, but work well together.
So many fantastic songs on this album. Can be listened to over and over and still be as enjoyable as the first time.
Absolutely perfect. Pink Floyd is like a family member that you always enjoy visiting. Enjoying the stories they share. Brilliant, and emotionally stirring.
Great album. Listening to Elvis is always a treat.
So unrefined, and raw. For a punk album it captures the essence quite well.
Classic album. Some of Elton John's best known songs. Solid from start to finish.
Absolute masterpiece. An album that is always in rotation.
Great album although you feel like it you are starting a journey that never quite gets underway. Some songs feel out of order, or that they do not belong on the album. Does not detract from the fact that this album is very well done.
From members of the band: Raymonde alluded to Treasure being rushed and unfinished, while Guthrie referred to it as "an abortion", "our worst album by a mile". (I wholly agree)
If you look at the lyrics they all have the same thread. Choose a letter of the alphabet, come up with as many words that start with or contain that letter. Then play the same tired music while softly saying those words over and over again. Add a splash of reverb with some vocalizing to give it an "ethereal" touch.
Vapid and self-aggrandizing. The whole collection of the human race's musical achievements would not be lacking anything if this album was never created or recorded.
Great albums, lots of earworms. Enjoyable all the way through.
Absolute gem of an album. Have listened to this album, and watched the movie countless times. Never tire of this album, one that definitely deserves a place here.
Interesting album. Unsure whether to like or dislike this album. Two listens to this album and no earworms.
So many negative reviews about this Bjork album. It is a challenging listen the first time as it occupies a unique place. Once you have listened to the album a couple times the shock wears off and you can really appreciate what she has created.
Very simple and stripped down album, while still being quite complex and rich.
Johnny Cash was an entertainer of the highest caliber. A highly compassionate person who cared for the poor, and downtrodden. It is shown to be true in this album. The way he talks with the crowd, and honestly wants to give them some joy in their lives.
A classic album, and a true joy to listen to. Highly recommended.
One the Beatles best albums. So many good songs on the album. Once you have listened to the album the only thing to do is listen to it again. A must have in any music library.
A truly unique album. Strong from start to finish. The soundscapes created are truly unique. Jane's Addiction were able to achieve something that many bands strive their whole career. An album that everyone should have in their collection.
Real interesting album. Did not realize the influence this album had on music as a whole.
A must have in every music collection. Many classic and definitive Hendrix songs.
Wonderfully dark and haunting. Stripped down and simple. A beautiful gift to give the world before leaving.
Who knew Honky Tonk could be so good.
The very definition of G-Funk, gangster rap. Hip hop at it's finest.
So unassuming yet so fascinating. Well written, composed and arranged in it's simplicity. So many subtleties. Second listen through is even better than the first.
Well written, well produced, not my style.
One of the better albums on the list. a pure treat to listen to.
This album is a must have in any music lovers collection.
Well done, well produced. Unique. Not my style.
A perfect album. Enjoyable from start to finish.
Such a great album. Once the album is finished it is time to play it again.
A very powerful album. Emotionally stirring at times. One of the best albums of all time. A must have for all fans of Grunge music.
Very unique and quit enjoyable. After listening to the album the only thing to do is to listen again.
A wonderfully unique and powerful album.
Shoegaze disguished as "other" music. Two stars as the album does have a moment or two that are not completely shogazey. Two playthroughs and nothing really stands out.
and now, for your listening enjoyment, Sonic Youth. Always enjoyable, such a treat.
Fantastic live no so live album
Fantastic live no so live album
Wonderfully sweet ear candy. Always a great album to listen to.
Are we able to vote higher than five stars? Such a brilliant album. The more you listen to it the more you want to listen to it. Another great example of music written and recorded when it was artists pushing other artists to be their best. This album holds a special place in my library.
Really torn on to what to rate this album. Everyone regards it very highly. I do not find it terrible, but do not find it terribly engaging. There seems to be no uniqueness in the songs themselves. If one is not paying close attention to this album they seem to blend in to one song. A couple songs not longer sound "edgy", and instead come across as dated. Worth a listen, but there is no spot reserved in my library for this album.
There is a reason this album is on so many lists. So many great things about this album; the songwriting, the music, the feel. Never gets old. A must for any music library.
The harmonies are perfection. The musicianship is such a treat. A wonderful album with so many great songs. Have enjoyed this album for many many years.
Good album? Yes. Deserves a place on the 1001 albums? Not so sure. Yes, it is Jack White and the White Stripes. Beyond that, does it make me think, "Yes, most definitely this deserves a place here."? No. The argument that Jack is playing more piano, and less electric guitar should not be catalyst for being put on a must listen to list.
Seems like there is something that is missing that would put it in that arena. There are albums that are not included on this list and removal of this album would allow at least one more album worth the time and investment.
Still a good album in it's own right, and I have no regrets listening to it.
Hard to rate this album. Over three hours in length. Beautiful singing, and wonderful music, but after a while you start to lose track. An album meant for a full day.
0. That is my rating. What a horrible mess of second rate songs sung by a second rate singer. Seems over hyped for what it is worth. Not justified being on this list.
Not my jam. Well produced, and the sound is cohesive.
Do you like breathing? I like breathing. Do you like eating? I like eating. Do you like Bowie? I like Bowie.
Syd Barret's Pink Floyd. Really good, but not quite the same as later Pink Floyd. Enjoyable nonetheless.
Slow start, strong finish.
Nothing but love for this album. The album is thoroughly enjoyable start to finish. The only thing to do after listening to this album is to listen to it again. Early AC/DC catalogue is pure listening bliss.
Nothing but love for this album.
Absolute gem of an album. So many great songs.
Thoroughly enjoy this album start to finish. Quite interesting how divisive the album is. Whether you absolutely love this album and listen to it often, or find it to be overdone, lazy, and late to the scene; you have to admit this is an absolutely unique album. Deserving of it's place on this list.
What a surprisingly great album. Golden age of hip hop. Fantastic production. A treat from start to finish. Will be adding this to my library for sure.
Music is not bad. Like listening to an old movie soundtrack for a movie I have never watched.
The Dr. Octogan album is on another planet on a different day. The music, DJ Qbert and Dan the Automator, with Kool Keith over top of it. So good. Unique hip-hop, with elements of horror, and psychedelia. The album most certainly deserves it's place on the list. To get a better understanding on where this album sits one needs to listen to DJ Qbert - Wave Twisters, Episode 7 Million: Sonic Wars Within the Protons; as well as Peeping Tom.
Unique and enjoyable. I have come to appreciate albums like this. They take one out of their comfort zone and show you something different. After listening you are forever changed for the better. Gaining a broader and deeper meaning of what music really is.
Masterfully done album. So crisp, and sharp while unrelenting and merciless. Always wonderful to listen to, never gets old.
What an absolute gem. So many wonderful songs.
Truly amazing. A breathtaking piece of work that stands alone. Beautiful.
Really enjoyable. Tragic that no one listened to Nico and the direction she want to go with the album.
3 is aggressive and subtle in the same breath. Beth Gibbon's voice is so haunting, ethereal, filled with despair and sorrow. So good.
It is such a great album
The distortion of the album adds to a sense of urgency that there is some unknown terror lurking, waiting. No time to waste, make haste.
Tale of two stereos. Listen on a portable device, or small speaker and the album is so-so. Play this on a good home system that has range and this is an altogether different sounding album.
Enjoyable start to finish.
Listen to this on a 2 channel system with no range - 2
Listen to this on a full home theater system with full range - 4.
Such a contrast, this is an album that needs a good system to enjoy fully. A great listen in the right environment.
Beautifully, wonderfully, aggressively perfect album. The raw aggression, and the DIY feeling of the album only improve music. Wonderful
Production, and sound is great albeit the lyrics can be off putting. This is the artist intent, to make you look at these things.
What I cannot reconcile is the absolute abhorrent behaviour this person exhibits. You may make good music, but can be garbage.
Autotuning and a bad version of American Pie detract from this album. Dated and somewhat stale.
Perfection. The haunting ambience, and creepiness really add to the music here. A wonderful entry in the world of experimental, Coil, Nurse With Wound, etc. Weeping is a sonic masterpiece. Influenced many that followed, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, etc. Must have.
Wonderful album. Straddles the worlds of punk and metal. Every song is wonderful, and it is impossible to say who contributed the most. Amazing what can be done when everyone pulls in the same direction working towards a common goal.
Quite a stark contrast from what other albums sound like. Great album nonetheless.
Absolutely wonderful album. So many great songs, and maintains a break neck speed throughout. Many people do not care for last track Downtown. As much as the song seems unpolished and unrefined, it gives the song more of a sing-a-long feel. Like going on a road trip with your friends when your favourite song comes on the radio and everyone sings along.
A gift to the world that belongs in everyone's music library.
Nothing but love for this album. What more can be said.
Nothing but love for this album. I find it quite comforting that this is the album I am presented with the day after Ozzie continued on his travel across the universe.
Supernaut. I cannot explain in words how important this song is. The last verse is so timeless.
Thank you for the chance to experience this moment.
Was expecting more, disappointing. The orchestra accompanying them seem to be playing cliches to occupy dead spaces and not really playing for the music. At times the music seems disjointed, as if two different bands are competing. Other times they seem to blend, but even then James vocals are what they are. James feels the need to add "oh baby", and "yeah yeah" far more than is needed. Lars is truly a one trick pony. Not the worst, but definitely not list worthy.
One of the best albums ever recorded. No matter how much time passes this album still sounds fresh. The Violent Femmes have been able to tap in to a sound that is all there own. Unique, and universal in the same breath. A wonderful mix of wit, sarcasm, double entendre, and biting social commentary. An album that is able to reach platinum without hitting the billboard 200 is an astonishing feat.
First song written to try out new equipment. Paul plays all instruments on the album. Effortless talent on display. A wonderful album.
Nothing but love for this album
Perfection. Fast, frenetic, fabulous. A must have for any music library.
So many great songs. Such a great album.
A wonderful gift from someone that is facing the inevitable. Thank you.
