Lovely stuff

one of the best rock albums ever. full stop. p.s. weirdly, "jeepster" is not available via Apple Music on the 2007 remaster of just the album, but it is available on the 2003 expanded version. i'm trying not to listen to the expanded versions to ensure that i'm hearing what originally came out, but that's not always possible. clearly

Mambo Sun - 4/5 Cosmic Dancer - 4.5/5 Jeepster - 4/5 Monolith - 3/5 Lean Woman Blues - 3/5 Get It On - 4/5 Planet Queen - 3.5/5 Girl - 3/5 The Motivator - 3/5 Life's A Gas - 3/5 Rip Off - 4/5 Hot Love - 4.5/5 Woodland Rock - 4/5 The King Of The Mountain Cometh - 3/5

#5 It's like The Black Keys collaborating with David Bowie. This album starts hot, immediately grabbing my attention and keeping it through the first four tracks. From there it falls off a bit, but never bottoms out. It was an enjoyable listen all the way through, and I had it saved to my library before I finished my first listen. Fun lyrics, groovy sounds, and great guitar work.

Even 55 years later, this is still fresh and effortlessly cool. Can only imagine what a lightning bolt it was when it came out. Love this. Prefer The Slider, but this is still a great album and very worthy of being on the list. 4

Heerlijke plaat

Really pleasant actually. A few familiar tracks, some really good sounds. It felt weirdly comfortable.

velvet goldmine! glammy fun! <333

Just good old fashioned quality rock n roll. Just poppy enough for my liking.

Some of my earliest musical memories are of glam bands on Top of the Pops, with their sparkly clothes, platform boots and long hair. Who were these alien creatures and why was their music so exciting? Of all the stars in the glam firmament, Marc Bolan burned the brightest and sadly the briefest. Like Bowie he transitioned from folk pop into harder glam rock sounds, and I wasn’t surprised to see that this album was produced by Tony Visconti. The first two tracks Mambo Sun and Cosmic Dancer set a mellow vibe, with Beatles-esque strings before kicking it out of the park with the glorious stomping Jeepster. As well as the well known hits, he also pulls off a great blues number in Lean Woman Blues 1971 really was the best year for music.

Pretty good, several songs I recognized and added to different playlists

This is a great compilation packed with iconic, godlike songs. While listening I felt full of passion, love, and pure energy — it’s the kind of record that makes you want to stand up and dance immediately. Marc Bolan’s vocals are fantastic — playful, sexy, and full of charisma. The guitars are raw, catchy, and absolutely addictive, driving these glam rock anthems that still sound fresh and exciting. Tracks like “Bang a Gong (Get It On),” “Jeepster,” “Cosmic Dancer,” and “Mambo Sun” are pure gold. The whole album is upbeat, fun, and dripping with that early 70s T. Rex magic. It’s light, sexy, and full of life — the perfect soundtrack for feeling alive and moving your body. One of the best and most essential glam rock records ever made. If you need something to lift your mood and get you dancing, this is it. Absolute classic.

Tremendous fun, wonderful upbeat music to be alive for. I love Mambo Sun way more than I ever thought I would. Jeepster; Get it On; Life's a Gas; these songs all have wonderful tempo, lovely guitar licks and beautiful lyrics. Low, gentle, infectious. Sadly it loses its oomph towards the end of the album. The Motivator and Rip Off are a bit forgettable, for example.

I like it, it's different from what I usually hear but it was good and I enjoyed it

It's a great album, pure rock and nothing else, with a few classic songs. Not the greatest album, but a great one still. 4/5

Strong 8

There's a lot more to this album than Bang a Gong. Loved the sound and was a few better tracks away from a 5. Just watched Billy Idol's doc and learned more about Marc Bolen. Interesting character. 4/5

Bolan! YES

This is a tough one. One big hit. No bad songs really. 3.5.

ok classic

It was good! 3.75, but not a lot of stand outd

I wouldn't want to intellectualise so clearly a sensual rock record. Although, that sensuality is so soft and effete in production and performance that it hardly seems right to call it rock or rock'n'roll. But pop star doesn't seem right for Marc Bolan either, being so evidently an artist. The artistry, however, is somewhat childish and crass, certainly unsophisticated. And, yet, the output of T-Rex is the pinnacle, in that time period, of specifically the thing that T-Rex and Bolan above all others does: something simple, but ellusive; decadent, but textbook; stupid, but affecting as only the most attuned poetry can be. I don't really know. 3.5 This is a tricky enough album to write about. It is a sad general truth that it is much easier (and more fun) to criticise things than to celebrate them. At least I feel that way. But my enthusiasm for Electric Warrior represents a particular difficulty because it is so glutted with the vices I am always throwing in the face of other records. So much goes round and round. So little develops. So many of the musical gestures are plainly unexciting. The lyrics, although idiosyncratic, practically insist on their own superficiality without representing any kind of satire. How should I praise an album that so obviously needs defending? Well it certainly helps that no one really thinks of Marc Bolan as a Great Songwriter. A rock star, sure, a style icon, of course, perhaps even a great guitarist in the sense of having given the world half a dozen notable riffs; but relatively little credit goes to Bolan as a songwriter. Well in truth it’s the songwriting that makes Bolan and T Rex great. There is something comparable to John Lennon‘s solo work in Bolan‘s songs. Like several of the tracks on Plastic Ono Band, out the year before Electric Warrior, there is looping repetition rather than development but it is not the product of idleness or incompetence. Rather both Lennon and Bolan are working hard to create short musical phrases that are potent enough to not only survive repetition but create absorbing, hypnotic beauty. Bolan‘s melodies are elegant and unusual. His instinct for creating uneven musical phrases without the music sounding angular or unnatural is one of his distinctive strengths. When it comes to the lyrics - Lennon is easier to frame as a Great Songwriter because of the straightforward seriousness of his subjects - God, Mother..etc (also because he was in The Beatles to be fair). Bolan has as much instinct as Lennon for poetry. If he worries much less than Lennon about linking it to narrative purpose; Bolan, devotedly whimsical and childlike, still savours language. O girl, Electric Witch, you are limp In society's ditch You are visually fine, Oh yes you are, But mentally dyin' That is ludicrous, and laughable, and too few recognise that it is also wonderful. There is no pop proceduralism there - it’s distinctive, stylish and crackles quite nicely on the tongue. It also evokes something like genuine sympathy for that poor witch; there is an unaccountable sincerity in it. Kids, if this sophistry isn’t enough to convince you of Electric Warrior‘s quality I suppose I can direct your attention to ‘The Bangers’. Although I personally believe that Planet Queen and Girl are the album’s peaks, along with Cosmic Dancer - a very special song. 3.5/5

always have loved this one.

Not the T. Rex that was the hero in 'Jurassic Park.' This fun album epitomizes glam rock. Top tracks: "Bang a Gong (Get It On)," "Cosmic Dancer," "Mambo Sun," "Jeepster"

It's pretty fun. I like the first two songs a lot. I obviously really like bang the gong too. It's a good album. I think bang the gong inspired david bowie. Or maybe it was just the entirety of T. rex that did

Unique voice and style. One of a kind.

Got it on

So I thought T-Rex was a singles band. But on the evidence here I was wrong. (Mostly) brilliant, and rhythmically sassy, tunes, just don't listen too hard to the lyrics. And Visconti's sympathetic production is icing on the cake. 4*

LOVE THIS

So many iconic tracks, and the huge warm wall of fuzz hits you in the chest right away. An absolute groove, and a delight.

spiceless glam classic

Amazing gmalrock album from start to end. Not all songs are as great but damn does have some great guitar work riffs on the songs. And ofcourse I notice where oasis ripped off ;). 1. Cosmic Dancer 2. Get It On 3. Life's A Gas

Enjoyable

Mõnus! Eriti hea kõla 1971. a kohta. 3.7/5

Get it on is a classic, some other good songs too. 4.

Bluesy riffs. Would again

Marc Bolan's charisma stinks on this record - makes me want to lick his sweat up. you can tell this is the moment he realised that he made great rock n roll. his guitar sounds great, the visconti production makes you cream your pants. there are some weaker songs on this which doesn't make it top score, but christ it was close.

Enjoyed this more then expected. Nice pace

Pretty solid, driving rock. The soft spoken vocals kind of get old but they are nice in each track. Favourite track: Cosmic Dancer

8.5/10 I really enjoyed this, it has a mix of glam and psychedelic rock with some songs having a bit of a folk sound.

A great album from a great band

The poor man's Bowie. There, I said it. Still, tasty jams and obscure enough that you look cool compared to the layman.

What a treat.

erstaunliches Album

good classic soft rock

I loved it! Very grunge but upbeat. I actually knew one of the songs!

Está muy raro este álbum. Dice que son 15 canciones y solo son 5. Dice que es una compilación pero no aparece en el listado del artista 🤷🏻‍♂️ Aun así está bueno el glam rock

I knew bang a gong. Several songs had a very similar structure and sound to that one. Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster, and Life’s a Gas were my favorites.

Me gusto mucho la onda que es asi un estilo bien retro. Ni tenia mucha expectativa sobre el album y me sorprendió la verdad

Absolutely a classic. I hadn't visited the rest of this album before (obviously I knew Ring a Gong before listening), and it was well worth it.

Okey okey , i don't like it much

Equipped w/ 'bebop moons,' 'alligator rain,' 'powder-keg legs,' Marc Bolan is a donnish pioneer of glam, mindful of language & its weirdness. But he's no proggish, I mean priggish, star: he's got too much rock 'n' roll for that, i.e., check out 'Jeepster.' Harkening back to groups like The Platters & The Flamingos on 'Monolith,' T. Rex are truer to their American roots than even Led Zeppelin b/c they're more full-spectrum. That don't mean they make better music, only that Electric Warrior is very good & Bolan is unique amongst the Brits-doing-USA-schtick. Essentially boogie rock, Rex is almost the British ZZ Top, w/ more jazz, strings, & balladeering. None of it is ornamental tho, & even if it begins to lose its edge towards the final few tracks, EW is a keeper.

Mambo Sun is a very engaging song with catchy lyrics and sounds “I love youuuu[…]for youuu ”. Love that part

This album went down incredibly smooth for me. It has the skeleton of psych and glam rock but boiled down to its bare essentials. Rich and fun yet somehow also minimalist and intimate?

pretty good

I didn't listen to this at one stretch. But it's extremely good and would definitely love to revisit this again

T. Rex is one of those bands that has always seemed to be just outside the periphery of the pool of music I listen to. I've probably come across their name or read about Marc Bolan's guitar playing hundreds of times. But each time I thought maybe I should check them out, I would see that their hit song was Bang A Gong and I was like nope, I'm good. Fortunately, it's probably the worst song on the album? The rest sounds like unused John Lennon solo tracks with a bit more swagger and a bit less eccentricity. Which is good, actually.

Glam rock,Me gusto mucho. Tiene un sonido calido y rockero post beatles. Melodias de voz medio poperas. Muy buenos rifs y grooves. Tiene algunos temas lentos muy buenos. Simple pero suena todo gigante

goooood

Pretty mid tier glam rock with a couple standouts. Bang a gong slaps

Wow that really surprised me! Somehow never heard of T. Rex but they were refreshingly good. Solid Bowie vibes!

Pretty good, and definitely feels ahead of its time.

really good album. I like most tracks. I would sleep to it. calming. soft. idk.

No private session used for Spotify. Not often do legendary bands, with some hype, live up to the expectations, this is an exception. There is no denying the impact this album had a glam rock. It's fun, it rocks, it's cool.

Very solid, mellow English rock. Excellent licks and well balanced vocals. Gets you feeling some type of way.

This was a great discovery for me! I’d heard Get It On before, but this was a great all around album.

I never knew I liked T. Rex before. They're good.

Pretty, pretty good.

I would have put this group circa 1977 -- impressive performance with lots of different types of songs.

piola, glam rock, uk

Better than Coldplay

The true listening experience is a 3, but also this album represents a solution to a real problem on this list. There’s probably a dozen albums that do the same thing as this one, but worse. You could drop those albums, pick 12 better albums, and let T. Rex carry the weight. List would be better off for it. A guy could even drop like five Bowie albums under the same pretence, if he wanted to.

A solid and clear progenitor to the likes of Ziggy Stardust, quality and worthwhile album if not a little more repetitive than the aforementioned legacy it paved the road for Being the starting line for all of Glam Rock history is a valuable achievement, but the label of "prototype" doesn't weigh it down, it's a good listen with a still-unique flair of its own right Also, Marc Bolan and Mick Ronson - different people, don't mix them up. Nice job with Uptown Funk, Mick

A lot of great songs on this Album

Great album, I only knew one song from this album.

*85 Banger plade. Har aldrig hørt om T. Rex før, men havde ikke forventet mindre af et album udgivet i 1971 (som i øvrigt er det bedste år for udgivelser i musikhistorien)

Banger! Jeg kunne lide det hele.

Really solid album, idk what else to say. 7/10

Favorite tracks: Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster, Bang a Gong (Get It On) The loudest rock and roll album that is almost always soft-spoken.

AGUANTE GIRL (alto tema)

Thoroughly enjoyed hearing the other songs by this group. Good album!

I had never heard anything T Rex other than bang a gong (which I could live without) but I enjoyed the whole album

Love that guitar fuzz tone. An album of solid glam rock tunes and preposterous lyrics.

It is a strange album. It had one hit played on radio Bang a Gong( get it on) but the rest were just a little too racy to actually get air play. But it still rocked just in kind of a strange way!

When it comes to music, there is a distinction between electronic and electric; but then there is Marc Bolan, electricity incarnate, who descends from the cosmos and strikes like a hot flash. A glorious day for glam rock. Favourite tracks: "Mambo Sun", "Cosmic Dancer", "Get It On"

It's not its fault it's overplayed. A classic.

Loved- amazing background music.

That's Rock and Roll, folks!

Exceeded my expectations

Zajebiste, taki soft rock, który poprawia humor. Podoba się dla mnie.

- crossing from blues to glam rock - liked 'Cosmic Dancer', 'Bang a Gong (Get It On)', 'Girl', - Very reminiscent of Bowie - Good music, though most feel very similar, which can cause exhaustion a couple songs in - 'Hot Love' is also good, on the expanded edition

I liked this more than I expected. The songs are fun and well-written. I’ll definitely return to this album.

preety nice album, like the vibes Today´s bird: Pterosaur

Great! But could have done with a few less tracks.

Cosmic Dancer Jeepster Get it on The Motivator Rip Off Hot Love

Around 3.8…

Get it on freaks xx

Another fantastic slab #johnsvinyl

This was fun and groovy.

Very fun and kinda sleazy

Solid 70’s rock album. Dope name too. Dinosaurs rule 🤘🏻🤘🏻

One of the first glam rock albums? I dig it. A lot of good stuff here, even beyond the "Get It On". 4.5 stars

I had heard of the band but wasn't familiar with them. This felt very groovy and glam. I feel like this might have been popular with fans of David Bowie as well.

The whole album played really nicely. I enjoyed all of the songs and would probably listen to the record more frequently. Mambo Sun was is a really cool record. I had no idea that this is where the song Get It On came from!

Liked it more than I thought I would

дуже кул, трошки чогось ніби не виставило, бат стіл вогник вогник

Cool, I like it! Stand-outs - Mambo Sun - Cosmic Dancer

likeyyyyy

I liked it!

This is a singer that I can get behind. Slightly breathy and *pitch sensitive* but still with a lot of character. I was not familiar with this artist when I started listening to this album, but I recognized the famous "get it on," which like many other songs on the album sound like they could've been released in the 90s or later. So I think the album is a bit ahead of its time. I'm mostly like the use of repetition (repeating melodies with new lyrics, etc), but I would admit that there were repetitive moments. Still I like this album a lot. 7.5/10

What’s not to like about this, a great album! Ok so I was aware of a couple of these songs but surprised myself how much i liked the whole album.

A little bit of pop, a lot of glam, and unapologetically sweet. Bolan struts through these tracks with swagger. It’s lean, catchy, and dangerously infectious — the kind of record that sinks its teeth in and doesn’t let go and makes you want to roar along

Impossible not to like a bit of the Rex in full flow. The singles etc have that cool jittery funky glam swagger to them, they just draw you in and make you smile. The slower bluesier stuff, tbh, I find less appealing. Former outweighs the latter.

70s rock. Poppier and folkier than I expected, more Bowie than Metallica. Important for glam rock.

When I first heard this album I thought it was pretty standard early-70's stuff. We do have more than a fair share of regular old early 70's rock on this list. But later listens revealed a pop sensibility unlike any other of its time, except maybe Bowie. It creates a chill and relaxed atmosphere that really is missing in most of its peers, and deliver hooks galore. Key tracks: Mambo Sun Cosmic Dancer Bang a Gong (Get It On)

Bang a Gong!!!

I’ve been listening to a lot of Joe Keery’s (Steve “the hair” Harrington in Stranger Things) band Djo lately, and one of his songs is T. Rex Is Loud, so I was excited to be recommended their album. I was not disappointed. First off, I didn’t find them overly loud. Mark that as a miss for Djo. Second, I definitely saw where Djo was influenced by T. Rex. They were definitely ahead of their time, using several stylings that became popular in indie music decades later. Strong performances dominate this album as they bounce around and play with different genres and distortions. I feel like many of these tracks could have been released today with minimal updating. Quite good and definitely a band I’ll look into more!

This is really good. I don't have any songs that I'm like yes this is a banger and I love it but I can see how this music it's like the prototype for a bunch of other music that I really like

not quite a five for me but definitely a fave

If someone says "glam rock", this is what pops into my head. I picture that black-and-gold silhouette on the cover. T. Rex basically set the template here. Marc Bolan's soft vocals sit over bright but never overblown rock 'n' roll guitar. It's a sound that's very restrained and cool. "Mambo Sun", "Jeepster" and "Get It On" all ooze laid-back coolness. "Get It On" being one of the greats in the world of rock 'n' roll. It's simple, but that riff hits every time. "Rip Off" kicks things up a notch at the end and shows Bolan can actually push his voice a bit when he wants to. But mostly the magic here is in the groove. The confidence. The sense that they know exactly how cool they sound. There’s not much to analyse. It's tight, stylish, and absolutely nails what it's trying to be: Glam rock perfection.

Listened previously. Expectations: High - Verdict: Near Perfect - Utterly joyous album. Boogies for days, huge riffs, glittering, spaced out lyrics. I love it and it's one that surely everyone can enjoy at least a bit.

Good songs but not amazing.

Classic Must have on your play list

Solid album. I was doubting between 3 and 4 stars. But the last two songs (Life's a Gas and Rip off) make this a 4-star album for me. Apart from those, I really enjoyed Cosmic Dancer and Get it on. After listening again, this is not between 3 and 4. This is actually a solid 4.

Only know T Rex from Bang a Gong that would hear on classic rock radio/playlists over the years. So this will be a brand new listen. It has a fun classic rock sound. All stuff you can move to. Love the Bowie-esque sound on a lot of it. Some of it has a bit of a silliness about it. But even the parts I don’t like as much are still a super fun listen. An album with a defined sound throughout. Really good. Something I would love to listen to again. Without being entirely wowed like this is a new classic. Very comfortable 4/5.

Akustisch sehr schön, aber nichts hängengeblieben

It was awesome

Didn’t realize how influential this album must have been for David Bowie.

While the ringleader's contemporaries at this time period would've floored him in almost every aspect this album encapsulates, it still shouldn't be disregarded as Mark Bolan proves himself to be an enjoyable entertainer.

Good album. Enjoyed the classic rock with good deep cuts

not bad

Enjoyable.

“Well, she’s faster than most And she lives on the coast, ah, ah, ah” A pioneer of Boogie and Glam Rock what Marc Bolan managed to achieve in such a short space of time with T. Rex is pretty spectacular. “Electric Warrior” contains some incredibly forward thinking and groovy pop rock songs that sound very distinct from anything else being released at the time. An absolute staple of rock music in the emerging post-hippy era that stands the test of time and had a huge influence on modern rock music.

Excellent Rock n Roll, rock it man!

really coool, surprised how much i liked

Another album I already own. Obviously Bang a Gong is the one everyone will know, but my personal favorite is Lean Woman Blues. It does always surprise me this album was made in the early 70s as I think it has more of that late 70s sound.

Cue the 70s rock speech. Ok but this is interesting. I actually am liking this one. Ok hello! I think I'm picking up what you're putting down. Yeah girl I do love you like dr strange. Ok yeahhh. Yes I could be convinced to like this. Me if I was dancing when I was 12. Big dancers over here. This is quite Bowie. Very glam rock beginnings. Are they British? They sing like they're phonetically British. It's not bad per se. At least not on these guys. These are just love songs I like it. Oh don't hurt em now. Ok vocals. This is jiving, I need a perm, halter, and some bell bottoms stat. Why are we taking someone's daughter leave her alone. Sometimes you're visually fine but mentally dyin it happens. Really liked this one definitely a gem. They really didn't think too hard about the lyrics huh. Favourite: Mambo Sun Least favourite: Rip Off

The album is great but I hate the songs about women, especially raw ramp.

Very enjoyable, 70s rock is just really good with the right bsnd

I really enjoyed this album. My only previous exposure was, like everyone else, Get It On. Although the record is quite raw and primitive in many ways, the sparseness of the arrangements and the intentional simplicity, especially in the drums, actually sounds weirdly modern. Equally there are some quite 'out there' production choices which are really cool. Its massive influence on subsequent rock music is obvious - aside from Noel Gallagher stealing the Get It On riff, there are echoes of this in Arctic Monkeys' AM, for example. I can see how the nonsensical words and odd vocal delivery might annoy some people but I'm actually here for it - it feels individual to Bolan, like it really means something to him, even if I have no idea what he's on about. I enjoy an intentionally obtuse vocal delivery. I like the subtle strings and the creative backing vocals. I think the overall vibe is sometimes stronger than the songs themselves, which often are basically one idea repeated for three minutes with the occasional left turn. Again this works for me, but I can see how some might find it a little boring. There are some dated moments for sure - see Lean Woman Blues - but in general it's impressive how well this record stands up 55 years on.

Nie znalem, a fajnie siadło

musica chill molto approvata, il mio genere

Hell yes. Thank you glam rock.

I wish it rocked harder but this album is really great, obvious inspiration to Ween.

Loved the gritty, sexy spin on bubblegum psychedelic pop.

Enjoyed this. I haven't listened to much T. Rex beyond the hit songs, and this time around I heard quite a lot of the late 50s early 60s influences.

Wonderous album

T. Rex are another one of those British rock bands who seismically shifted the sound and style of music in their home nation, but whose impact overseas (particularly in my own home country of the US) was more limited. that being said, the influence of their frontman Marc Bolan and the songs he wrote for Electric Warrior can be felt in a ton of future rock music from both sides of the pond. this is credited as the first glam rock album ever recorded, and it catapulted Bolan to an astounding, albeit briefly lived, level of fame in the British Isles. plenty of subsequent bands in both Britain and America were formed by people who heard records like this and iterated on their successes, resulting in the creation of rock musics like punk, indie, alternative and many more. personally, I've heard "Jeepster" and "Bang a Gong" quite a few times over the years, but the rest of this album was brand-new to me. that being said, a lot of the people involved in its production were not! as I quickly came to realize, before Tony Visconti was known as the guy who produced nearly all of David Bowie's classic albums, he was known as the producer for T. Rex. his touch as a producer and musical curator here is unmistakable in much the same way it would be on next year's Ziggy Stardust and many of the subsequent Bowie collaborations which I'm much more familiar with. plus, there's some recognizable session players in the mix here: King Crimson's Ian McDonald on saxophone, prolific session trumpeter Burt Collins on flugelhorn, and the one and only Rick Wakeman playing keys on "Bang a Gong", recorded shortly before he joined Yes (and two months before the release of Bowie's Hunky Dory, another album where he plays the snot out of some piano)! oh, also Flo & Eddie. despite all the star power, I think my expectations for this album were a little different. I was not prepared for quite this level of camp! a fella like me sees this album title (ELECTRIC WARRIOR!!!) paired with this incredible cover of Bolan wielding a guitar in front of a massive stack of amps, and I expect the riffs to come out and stay out, like a bulge through a pair of spandex pants you can't look away from. some of the tracks here definitely do that, but many of them are quite silly. the lyrics in particular are almost always silly, actually. I'd like to return to this with the knowledge that this album sounds Like This, and see if I can meet it more where it's at the next time. as it stands, I liked it quite a bit, but there I go again with my preconceived notions. decent 7/10.

I recognize one of these songs

I enjoyed this album, there were a couple of songs that I didn’t enjoy on it such as Planet Queen, but it is a solid example of early 1970s pop rock. It reminded me of Penelope isles quite a bit.

Still sounds interesting and innovative after all this time.

There’s a fair amount of repetitive melodies and ideas on this record, but for some reason I just really vibed with the music. Very enjoyable listen. The record takes a lot of 60s pop and rock ideas and turns them into something a little different. Will listen again.

Own this. Love this. Almost perfect. 4.5 stars for sure.

Um punhado de canções simples, valorizadas pelos arranjos e interpretações maravilhosas que traduzem a riqueza sonora deste álbum. Cordas, saxofone (Ian McDonald), flugelhorn, violões e a guitarra reinando soberana. Um verdadeiro clássico!

Pop oriented glam. Bolan started it Jeepster Monolith Bang a gong Rip off

Album tracks were better than I was expecting and the singles are still great, especially Get It On.

A classic for sure. Lots to love. A bit of meh sprinkled in there as well. Love the guitar work, it laid the groundwork for a lot of bands to come!

Electric Warrior is a lot quieter and slinkier than I expected. As the progenitor of glam rock, I thought it would be quite a bit heavier, but it's actually perfect the way it is. The influence on Bowie was tremendous, and you can hear why. Marc Bolan's grooves are hypnotic, his lyrics hilariously juvenile, the guitar rock raucously sloppy. Fantastic stuff. FOUR STARS

Probably the first in a long line of albums I will have to research as I listen to understand the era in which it came out. It initially sounded like a lot of 70s/80s rock, but it makes more sense that the sound is one that the album helped pioneer. It is weird because this seems to land somewhere between psychedelic rock and prog rock without being too hard into either. This makes more sense with appearances with members of Yes and King Crimson. 6/10 - Relatively solid album, all of the songs are catchy but not catchy enough for me to want to listen again. For a 40 minute album, it feels long.

yeah a couple tracks i like a decent bit, and the overall feel is pretty good

94/1001 Memorable riffs, Great production and a cool confident vibe. Flo and Eddies backing are the cherry on top. 7/10

So very chill relaxed rock and roll. I can see the smoke filled room and band moving slowly in my mind as this plays. Last few tracks on this album take it down from perfect, but it captures a vibe and tone so well.

It's very nice glam rock with heavy psych influences. It's also very playful, the songs have fun grooves and catchy choruses while also maintaining the elegant arrangements that make the genre so special. Cosmic Dancer is the standout to me, the whole first side is pretty great. After that it slows down a bit but never really dips in quality significantly or anything.

4/5 I really liked the variance of the tracks and the overall sound of the album. Without knowing who influenced who, the sound reminds me of Lennon and Bowie, but still different enough that I wouldn’t say that anyone copied one or another.

7.5/10 - Easy listening, recognised 1 song from the album

Great album. Had never listened to it before, but had heard Bang a Gong, of course. Will be revisiting it, for sure.

This one hit a lot of positives for me- pretty solid rock music, interesting presentation, and giving songs some different character throughout. I can't say it did everything right, but it did what it did very well. The sound was just cool, if simple. It managed to follow pop stylings without going too poppy. It didn't overdo the rock aspects, which seems to happen on occasion with the "glam" descriptor. There seemed to be one thread leading each song as it went, and everything built off of that. Adding much more to the mix probably would've overcomplicated it for the worse. What was put down all really came together to make something memorable and enjoyable. It felt like stripped down Bowie or Prince at times. I did have a few critiques. One was that some of the songs sounded too similar, even if they were good. Also, I found the weakest aspect of the album to be the vocals. They worked well for the way the music was presented, but they really didn't do much to elevate the song. Only a few times did it really feel like the voice on the music did more than just blend into the mix. Adding those issues together, I could see the album getting a little boring if it had gone on much longer than it did. As a whole, I thought this was a pretty good album. It had a few really good songs and plenty of good/fine songs. I really didn't think any of the tracks were bad. I would listen to it again. Overall: 3.6/5

Truly caught off guard by my strong feelings for this one one. Of course I love to bang a gong and get it on, but was totally unfamiliar with the rest of T. Rex's other music. It turns out this album is full of enjoyable music!

Brilliant glam rock album. One of their best.

Grasa de ballena

chill with some rock elements. mambo sun and life’s a gas are my fav

Sounds like David Bowie… it is glam rock so it makes sense.

I've never listened to a T Rex record before and only really knee the singles but this was a fun listen.

This was a perfect fun listen while sitting outside in the sunshine!

He danced himself out the womb, ya hear?

Fav: Life's a Gás The songs are better in the context of the album than individually

I can imagine cool people in the 70’s having this on after dinner smoking cigarettes and drinking red wine, lots of chunky boots and little silver trays of drugs. They’re not rich though, they wear orange and brown, have huge curly hair and thick dark moustaches. They smile and dance with chipped teeth and cut out stars plastered on the fridge. In terms of the music in a more traditional sense: I really really liked it a lot. It felt cool and easy to listen to, the early middle definitely gets a little bit samey but I didn’t mind because I LIKED the music they were being a bit samey about. The switch up at ‘there was a time’ was delightful and much needed. It made the album feel fresher. I hear the beach boys (especially on woodland rock) and the Beatles and I love them both so much so that’s always gonna be a good thing for me. A delight to listen to and I will be coming back to a lot of it. Mwah.

Pretty fun chill album. “Get It On” is an epic track.

Th eternal groove. Mark knew how to get some pretty great guitar tone and carry it thought a whole song. A few monsters on this album that show up everywhere in pop culture. A few sleepers a couple stinkers but mostly full gas guitar!

Another album from my misspent youth. Many hours were passed listening to T-Rex... great to take a deeper dive into tracks that seldom see the light of day. Guitars, guitars, guitars.

4 Sterne

Die Mucke meiner Eltern. Also ich fand's richtig gut und ein paar All Time Klassiker sind auch dabei. Für ne 5 müsste ich es aber nochmal hören.

Das Album groovt ohne Ende und macht einfach nur viel Spaß. Get It On ist dazu noch ein Jahrhundert Song.

Laconic electric rock pop pleasure, with some killer craft and some edgy doom at the edges.

War geil, aber nicht völlig

Hab ich noch nie von gehört war sehr angenehm überrascht

first album using this website and did not disappoint!!! genuinely fun, funky, interesting sounds all across the album with some great vocals and smooth finish. - a rock music hater (maybe i’ve been listening to the wrong subgenres this was fire)

Classic glam record. Really makes you want to get it on and bang a gong.

UM BOM ALBUM, gostei mais do final do q o começo, nao q o incio seja ruim, mt pelo contrario mas o final é bem mais <3 tlgd FAVS (top 3): cosmic dancer, rip off, woodland rock menções honrosas: lean woman blues, get it on, life's a gas, there was a time/raw ramp/eletric boogie, hot love compraria o vinil: SIM ótimos 55 minutos, uma boa outro e ótimos extras pra nós meros mortais do streaming nota final: 4.5/5

I think David Bowie listened to this album nonstop. It sounds like the basis of his 70's records. Good early 70's glam rock with great guitar parts and some all-time classic songs.

Glam Garage rock. Dude is a really good musician... Marc Bolan. I really like the album and would have loved to have seen this live. This woulda been my scene haha. I'd always though Foxygen had T Rex vibes but never realized "Oh Yeah" has strong roots with "Mambo Sun." Very creative, generational talent and some bangers.

took a break from this website for a bit because i wanted to listen to some stuff that's like.... not the western canon, you know? then over the weekend i was in the area where Marc Bolan's shrine is in Barnes and remembered that i skipped over this album when i got it and never went back to it, and so here i am. yeah, and this completely slaps. i was dumb to put it off for so long.

Decent stiff

pretty yacht dad vibes and great to put in the bg while doing work. only know this because i did this LOL

Good stuff

Loved it! T.Rex is a band that was not on my radar other than their biggest hits. This album raced by for me and I found myself bopping the whole time.

Pretty repetitive, but they're repeating music I really like so I won't complain

Liked this

cosmic dancer damnn

Groovy as hell. Cosmic Dancer and Bang a Gong A+

Some good tune can be found here.

bem tass biizz, curti bastante, fez me lembrar bué um beatles mas mais moderno

I am here for 70s glam, genderfuckery, tight rock grooves, and campiness. I thought T. Rex was classic rock. Oh, nay.

I only really knew “Get It On,” but listening to Electric Warrior made me realize — way too late — how much the rest of the album is completely my thing. “Mambo Sun” has a slightly bluesy feel that I love, and “Cosmic Dancer” gives me a heavier, more grounded Beatles vibe. I’m glad I finally gave it a proper listen.

looove listening to this and hearing all of the bits and bobs that influenced musicians who came after. even the album cover served as an inspiration for one of my favourite albums! how could I not enjoy this?

This album was incredible! I loved it so much & saved almost every song, was also already familiar with a few. It transported me to another time & made me imagine what a life then would have looked like for me. I loved experiencing this so much! 9/10

I enjoyed it, I really liked the beats and vibe, but the lyrics are okay but a bit too repetitive for my taste

Really liked this record. Didn't know anything about it, but recognized one song. I am returning to this one soon.

A transformative early 70s album, the impact of glam rock on rock and roll/pop music and its influence today is still felt in the pop world and in the perception of rock and roll. While this is an iconic album, I wish it was a bit more uptempo (like all songs were like Rip Off), but still an enjoyable listen. RIP Marc Bolan and Mark Volman (no relation)

7/10 Favourite: Cosmic Dancer Least Favourite: Rip Off

Not my genre, but this sounds good, lotta bangers

Opens with a string of bangers then goes a bit downhill but impeccably produced respectant for 1971. Sad loss for rock that he died so soon 3.9

Still sounds great, didn't realize the lyrics were kinda weird: "Well, you're built like a car, You've got a hubcap diamond star halo"

Very good album. I’m honestly surprised at how good it is, I did not know much about T.Rex prior to this listen except for Bang A Gong. This album has a great guitar tone. It vibes. Notable tracks include Mambo Sun, Monolith, Bang A Gong, Planet Queen, The Motivator, Life’s a Gas.

Original and creative sound and the hypnotic voice of Marc Bolan makes for a great listen

There are enough absolute classic tunes on this for 5 stars, even though Bolan's pseudo-mystical persona does seem a bit put-on and somewhat flimsy at times. The directness of this seems like a welcome antidote to the overblown psychedelic Sixties. Very much of its time, but it does sound like some people were having quite a bit of fun then.

🦖🦖🦖🦖

Glam rock super stars. Gone too soon - wear a seatbelt kids.

Shed music. Something to smoke to.

Liked it, not familiar with glam Rock, will relisten too

Fav song: Hot Love Usually rock music of this era is lost on me, but there's something about the 70's glam that works really well for me. I love the campness lmfao.

Quietly a pretty good album, lots of stylistic variety and catchy music

Luz. Would listen again chociaż nic nie zapamietałem.

Great! I had heard Get it On previsouly on the radio, so it was good to explore the rest of the album. For something that was released in 1971, it sounded quite modern.

Good mood grooves

First song...funny, I wouldn't have put this together had I not listened to it a week or so ago, but that's exactly what the Black Keys were going for on Brothers. Okay, it doesn't rock as hard as the name of the band and the album cover would lead you to believe, but that's okay. It's still really great....a lot of great grooves on here.

Jeepster is a banger. Was surprised I knew a song by these guys. It’s giving naughty CCR

I really liked this one. I obviously already knew "Get it On" and that song is still awesome every time I hear it, whether it be the original or the Power Station version. I really enjoyed the rest of the tracks as well.

Ziggy Stardust on quaaludes meets Rocky Horror

Lean Woman Blues, Girl, Bang a Gong. Great album.

Never got around to this album until now, hence why i started doing this. And i've gotta say, this album is so far ahead of its time. I love it. 4/5

This album doesn’t just play—it sashays in wearing glitter and whispering, “You’ll never be this cool.” Bolan turns every riff into a pickup line, and honestly, you’d fall for it. Forty minutes of pure swagger that makes you want to buy platform boots and a boa. Oh, to be that cool!

7/10 Favorite: Bang A Gong (Get It On)

I've had this album forever, it's just a great listen, unique and timeless.

Its solid, quite classic

Jaja.

Love me some T Tex

Fun. Maybe a little too 'one trick pony' for a 5, though...

Solid.

Awesome

I knew Get it On, which is a great track, but I liked the whole album. To me, the guitar and the interplay of the rhythm and lead portions of it are really good. I liked the use of fuzzy distortion and then the driving beat.

This is one of those albums I picked up in my early 20s after a friend at the music store recommended it as something influential. At the time, I didn’t really get why it was so important, it just sounded like classic dad rock to me. But once I learned more about its influence on glam rock and the context of its release in 1971, I gained a real appreciation for it. This album didn’t just contribute to glam rock, but it helped define it, both musically and visually. Marc Bolan’s persona and unique sense of fashion played a big role in shaping the look and feel of the genre.

Boa noite. 4.5/5

For what is the definitive glam rock album, it is far more understated than I would have expected. Somehow it manages to be both a very 70s album and timeless, you can see the influence this had on both its contemporaries, musicians in the 80s and modern artists. My only criticisms is that some of the songs seem a bit same-y (though the album has a cohesive identity and I'm a big fan of the sound, strikes a good balance between grime/sleaze and sincere) and Side A is a bit stronger and more tightly curated than Side B. I would have liked to see more songs like the closing track on Side B. Apart from that, it's an great album. Highlights: Cosmic Dancer, Get It On, Life's a Gas, Rip Off

Forgot how much I appreciate this album, probably been 20 years since my last listen. Enjoyable!

One of the most influential modern blues albums, inspired way more stuff than you know

Fun and enjoyable. Have this one on vinyl.

An iconic song and some interesting surrounding tracks.

Super large range in the album. Thought I was listening to the Beatles at first, then it got super electric and prince sounding then ended with like a blues and ac DC vibe. Enjoyed the variety very much

Standing out like a beacon in a veritable sea of mediocrity is this joint by the glam-rock kings T.Rex. The mighty Get It On, Jeepster and Hot Love adorn this album, but there is plenty to enjoy here, I loved Hot Love and Cosmic Dancer, and the others are very, very listenable. Break out those platform boots!

T. Rex is really interesting, complex, and fun musically. It just feels to me that the tracks, in most cases, are not songs but sonic experiments. They sound great, and have a nice groove, but they don't catch on the way singles normally do. Kind of like extended hooks. Still, they are good hooks and they keep you listening.

There was a year where I was obsessed with "Mambo Sun". Very good album. I own it on vinyl.

Made at a time when even “pop stars” could play their own instruments and were recorded with minimal manipulation. The stripped down sound gives the album energy and authenticity. Compared to the homogeneous , sampled, overproduced “perfection” that is marketed in these more enlightened times this album comes out on top every time. Pop songs, interspersed with bluesy guitar makes for a good mix. Classic!

I was much too hard on this the first time it’s fire

hood work mr t rex

The Start of Glam. Credit to Marc Bolan for creating a genre. A band where they needed a 'best of' to feature in this list. Too many of their best songs not on this album - Ride a White Swan, Metal Guru, 20th Century Boy, etc - but still a good, gentle intro to Glam Rock.

No stand out just great listening

Damn good music. 55 years old, but still sounds fresh. Recommended.

Alles in Allem guter Sound und n paar coole Songs dabei wo man mitnickt. "Bang a Gong" echt ein toller Hit. Insgesamt sehr gutes Album!

Alles in allem ein cooler Sound :-)

Funky and poppy while still being very much a rock album. These guys are geniuses.

Haven't listened to a lot of T. Rex but I must say I'm pleased. The album met my expectations of 70's glam rock, alike artists like Bowie. Being introduced to T. Rex 'Solid Gold Easy Actions' through tcoptp, this brings about it a cozy and familiar vibe. I particularly like 'get it on' and 'hot love - a side'

Yeah gland rock or somethin, far out

Strangely comforting music. Glamourous yet comforting. Always liked T Rex but never did this kind of active listening and realized there is a lot going on. Background vocals, horns everywhere, piano, but all of it fits pretty seemlessly. The lead guitars way up front with 0 reverb sounds great and I wonder if its a glam rock signature. Bolan seems like a fun/interesting 70's rock character too. Watched an interview with him and on the question of being bi-sexual he said "I've had a lot of experiences" and "Bowie and I almost got married one night". Banging David Bowie is as glam rock as it gets.

Bisexual bros just rock a little harder

To my ears, this is like the first album that John Lennon wouldve done had he never been in the Beatles. I cant name a band like T.Rex (maybe Bowie) and the groups that found deep inspiration from this are really cool - MGMT. Personally, I like the ultra distorted guitar, airy vocals and the simple grooves. I remember hearing Lifes A Gas back in college and being totally obsessed with it.

What a nostalgic album, I love Marc Bolan. Some brilliant songs some a bit more mediocre. 4.4

Slightly soporific but I loved the sound

absolutely baffled by Cosmic Dancer [we have space oddity at home], otherwise shit GROOVES

Most of us only know this album and maybe the band from the song “Get It On”. But this album is more like if Arcade Fire had put out a record in 1971.

this was pretty fun!

Vraiment cool

Solid album that deserves more recognition

Overraskende!

4 reten. FAV Give it on, Woodland rock

rock clássico bom

Solid rock and roll.

Excellent. Groundbreaking. I loved every minute of it. It sounded more modern than the early 70s.

I think you have to be from the UK to fully get T Rex. Great sound but gets a bit repetitive after a while.

Ok, they have two songs, a slow one and a fast one, but they're both pretty great. Just imagine hearing it in 1971!

I really liked this record! Lots of variety between songs, fun arrangements, cool guitar parts, the singer has a unique voice. Lyrics can be questionable sometimes... But pretty great overall!

This album is an early glam rock/pop effort. Had the pleasure of seeing them perform in 1972, where they played these tunes. Actually think this album catches some of that live energy while still sounding well produced. I enjoying hearing this one and feel it has with stood the test of time well. Sad he wasn't around longer to hear his music evolve.

Classic

Overall pretty good. Never knew they sang “Bang a Gong”. I enjoyed the listen.

Nice early 70's rock.

Really like this album. Hadn't spent much time listening to T.Rex before but this was a fun listen.
