I really hate this album. It was intolerable to get through

Lyrics written by a 7th grader, annoying vocals, and basic music do not make for a good album.
Had to turn it off really not a fan. Really not my genre and much of the music was repetitive making it hard to listen to

Reminds me of bad punk rock versions of the doors and velvet underground.

Sounds like he's singing while sick and high on cold medicine
I can see the Velvet Underground influence, and I can appreciate that this was important in a time where punk was first emerging. That being said, there's really not anything on this album worth revisiting for me.

Is there a reason for this album to be on here other than the fact that John Cale produced it? Just go listen to VU. Better use of your time and you won't have to listen to the nightmare that is Pablo Picasso.
Wikipedia says this album is Proto-Punk / Garage Rock / Art Rock - it's doesn't really haven't the energy of Punk or Garage. I remember hearing the opening track (and single) "Roadrunner" being played on the radio and thinking that it was amateurish - it still sound slike that today, almost 50 years later. The rest of the tracks aren't any better. And Jonathan Richman sounds so miserable which is how I feel after listening to this.

irritating and superficial imitation of jim morrison without an ounce of his wit and lyricism. what are we even doing with this album. it’s an album like this that really makes me lose faith in this 1001 list. who was inspired by this album. just because members broke off and started joined good bands and the sex pistols covered a song is that enough to be considered “influential” ?????????? listening more. I like Hospital. more melodic and less stupid Doors stuff. oh as I’m listening it got creepy. “when you were a little girl I get jealous of your old boyfriends” wtfff I thought we were being vulnerable for a sec it’s over who cheered
"Girlfriend" might be one of the worst songs I've ever heard, the rest of the album is better, but not that much better.
I guess the guy who made this list really likes albums with bad singers and mediocre music. This one has the added benefit of bad lyrics too! This is not an album you need to listen to before you die. I listened to it and it added no value to my life whatsoever!

Do you like music? This album is for you. The rhythm of the bass is really catchy. The singer does get a little repetitive. But it's worth it. They sing about love and stuff
Rock bands from the 70s and 80s is really hit or miss with me and this album is a miss. Usually I can find at least a few songs from every album that I like even if they wont be added to any playlists. That wasn't the case here. the songs are just to slow and repetitive.

This band reminds me a bit of The Doors.
Ich weiss nicht, wieso das überhaupt aufgenommen wurde. Und ich meine dabei nicht nur aufgenommen in die 1001 Alben, sondern vor allem auch aufgenommen auf Tonträger. Es wär nicht besonders interessant, es war zu lange und vor allem war es auch nicht so gut. Die Stimme des Sängers ist extrem eintönig. Ich hörte es mir ohne Erwartungen an und wurde dennoch enttäuscht.

The music is generic at best. The lyrics and singing are terrible. How someone's garage band made it to this list of beyond me.

I am so sick of these drunk, congested, nonsense albums. Why are there so many of these. Anyone who gives this more than two stars is lying and my least favorite kind of person.

Pablo Picasso is a fun song. The rest all sound alike in a very annoying monotone voice with little care about the music.

The music reminds me a little of The Doors, but without the same sense of the music taking over.

Stuck on a plane for three hours and I still felt like I was wasting my time listening to this album. He never stops sounding like he’s five drinks down trying to tell a story no one cares about 1/5. i fell asleep through the last couple songs just to get to the end.
Really tried to give this a chance and yet only made it through 2 songs. I can normally stomach most albums but the lyrics were garbage and honestly the overall album felt like some teenager wrote it.
If you were doing drugs in the 70s maybe you could vibe with this…
Stupid uninspired album with horrible vocals and dumb lyrics. I couldn’t even finish it. Terrible, they were a paraplegic that “crawled” so the sex pistols could run. And the sex pistols run was more of a crawl compared to most “indie” rock bands in this era. Worthless garbage

It feels like an album that can't decide if it's punk or rock, and ends up sounding like "we have Jim Morrison at home" meme. Very dull.
Well that was dull. Maybe it makes more sense to include it if you know the context, as sometimes early versions of something sound uninspired but that's because later artists riffed on the concepts and often improved on them. No idea if that is the case here, but I hope so otherwise I really can't see how you would include it as a top 1000 album.
I hated this one. The voice was like nails on a chalkboard. Some of the songs physically hurt to listen to and I never want to think about this one again

I couldn’t believe the sh** I was hearing. Boring, bad vocals, laughably simple lyrics. You could give a fifth grader a tambourine and a recorder and he’d concoct a better album for you.

1000lbs of respect for John Cale. But I really didn't get anything out of this. It's the debut, so maybe they needed time to grow or something. But there is nothing here.

Getting some cheap Doors vibes, but I mean way, way, way cheaper. I was going to give this a 2. However, when I saw the average rating was somehow above 3, I knew I had a job to do...
i cannot say one positive thing about this album. first of all congratulations you made a song about you being straight that’s so weird but okay. also it sounds like they put a bunch of words on paper and read off of it in no special way or anything. just really bad.

Awful. Slurred lyrics come across as extremely shallow too.
Didn't really get this. I only liked the song "Government Center" and the rest went from active dislike to extreme indifference. I was on a streak of a bunch of good albums in a row and this really ended that streak abruptly.
