Reviews (page 15 of 15)

This is cheesy and shitty

Hallelujah itz over

I've had enough with these Jeff Buckley worshippers talking about how beautifully haunting it or whatever string of adjectives they use. Jeff Buckley is not good, and if he never died he'd be just another guy like Son House.

Un peu monotone

Terrible fuck aas album. 0/10, 0.00%

I just don't like it. Something about his voice, or the way he performs. He butchered one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time for this album - Hallelujah. On paper, I should be his #1 fan but nothing about this lands for me.

indubbiamente potente, ma super pesante

Yes, yes, I know, he’s a legend, it was tragic, extraordinary voice, hugely influential, blah, blah, etc. I get it. However, my ears only ever hear screechy, warbling, directionless twaddle. It’s my loss. It really is something that should tick all the boxes for me but I think I must be allergic, or something. I’ve never made it all the way through a single song on this record, and I probably never will.

I have always had a hard time with Jeff Buckley and the devotion thrown at him. I came to this album trying to be open-minded and first track in and I was thinking, better than I remember it... then it all went wrong. I just kept thinking "calm down you'll do yourself a mischief there" and so it continued. Seems to me to fall into the great musicain that just does nothing for me category, call me a philistine...

Boring (except for Hallelujah)

very boring

This record is like a zombie, that no matter how many times it passes away, it comes crawling back. Heard in the 90s, then the early 2000s, 2010s and now again. And not once, in all those times, have I liked it. So affected and overwrought and show-offy that there are barely songs, just wailing melodramatic angst. And KD Lang's Hallelujah blows this one out of the water.

no likey

Yawn. I tried getting into this ages ago and couldn’t. Listening to this now I mean yeah Buckley’s voice is amazing but the songs are extremely weak. There’s nothing there working for it except for the vocals and the songs just sound like an endless droning lullaby. I know it’s considered super influential and stuff and yeah you could hear this vocal style all over the nineties. It’s just so dull, willing to go as high as two stars. No, one.

This is terrible. Not idea why anyone would listen to this dreck

This is like the ur-90s coffeehouse singer Really not my thing

Tedious, boring, overrated hipster rock. Almost any rock album from the 1990s was more enjoyable than this. Only slightly less soporific than his dad's music. When I was at university, in the 4 years leading up to this record's release, there were multiple music school dorm jam bands on every U.S. campus that sounded exactly like this and they played at all the coffee houses on campus. They were a dime a dozen. Nothing special. They too were filled with so much angst and narcissism that was filled with emotional immaturity. Guess we know his Dad never taught him about the buddy system when you go swimming. One nice "Hallelujah" cover and a bunch of wankery.

listening when: morning thoughts: i mean hopefully when i look back ill be less petty but rn on instinct it sucked rating:

I feel tortured.

Tuli jonkinlainen primitiivireaktio tätä naapurin runoilijapoikaa vastaan. En tykännyt yhtään, enkä saanut tästä mitään irti.

Haut mich null vom Hocker

this shit gave me whiplash

Какие-то унылые христианские завывания

This is the 178th album I’m rating. I've heard many great things about him and this album. I've also heard that his version of Hallelujah was incredible, but I've always thought the Leonard Cohen version of Hallelujah was better so who knows if it's any good. Adding to my Playlist - Lilac Wine, So Real, Lover, You Should've Come Over, Corpus Christi Carol, and Dream Brother. Not Adding to my Playlist - Mojo Pin, Grace, Last Goodbye, Hallelujah, and Eternal Life. All in all I liked 5/10 songs. My biggest problem with this album is that Jeff Buckley kept on ruining the songs at the end.

Just like his father Tim, it's trash music with garbage lyrics, and it's a waste of my time on this beautiful Summer morning. Thankfully, this was the only album he ever had. Favorite Track: "Eternal Life".

Candidate for most overrated album ever. Unbearable.

Erschliesst sich mir nicht, wieso es plötzlich wieder auftauchte.

This was awful... I'm trying to think of a reason not to fail it, but I got nothin'... tunes are bland... his voice is grating (especially when he goes for the high notes)... songs tend to linger longer than they should... and at times, it's just plain noise... I also see that its reception wasn't so hot when it originally came out, and it was only after his foolishly unnecessary death that opinions warmed... suspicious...

Good grief. I reckon this guy cries when he ejaculates.

Just not a fan of the albums that are purposefully not cohesive. Not really taking any of these with me. 90's were a weird time for white people

Already heard it. It’s grossly overrated it sounds like over polished Blind Melon. They just did a really good job of pushing it was good, and so people repeat, but nobody that is even a fan remembers a song name. Everyone just remembers hallelujah. People should remember his father more.

Not my type of music

1 star Hard to start your day in a worse manner. The song carrying the album is not even his own.

So mid No vibe Even hallelujah was mid

Nie lubię, ma momenty, ale ogólnie raczej męczy i nudzi.

Melodramatic and overwrought- which I don’t always object to - but this was borderline insufferable.

1/11 but interesting for sure 9/100

1.5 he has a great voice but every song is so over the top and just not fun to listen to

God i find this kind of stuff insufferable. It sounds like he thinks he's profound.

Have never enjoyed Buckely's vocals. close to ASMR but grating. One good song (obvious). Overrated

Listened, then listened to his Da, now he had talent.

This is another one of these that just confuses me. Who is this for? Who puts on this generic crap and rocks out to it?

A shitty emo John Meyer if he even plays.

Not my cup of tea

could i write poetry to this? n

A voice like a broken wine glass. Or whine glass. Piercing and grating and over-acted.

Joder quin conyàs d'àlbum i com agafa cançons com Hallellujah i se les carrega. No he pogut eh m'ha avorrit moltíssim. A més hi ha un parell de coses de producció que perquè les noti jo molt òbvies han de ser. ELR: 3/5

Oh, no. Just no. Music to spiral into neverending depression, if that's your bag.

Style seemed all over the place. Couldn't get into it. 1/5

Did not enjoy - couldn’t finish

Not for me

Dit is echt heel vaag. Mij echt veel te zweverig. *

I tried so hard to like this. Some of these songs were very familiar to me. But, it just didn’t move me.

I was looking forward to this album when I saw it pop up ... but was frankly disappointed. The continuous reaches to his falsetto or screeching voices was irritating. I think he was better suited for folk or ballads with his haunting singing voice, but you have to wonder why his songs are so dark and despairing.

Debbie downer of an album

Not into the singer-songwriter stuff

I had some friends in college that were obsessed with this album but he just doesn't do it for me. I clearly hear the emotion that he is feeling but I guess since my heart can't comprehend that emotion my ears can't enjoy his delivery

Mag ich nicht.

I didn’t like this album except for hallelujah which I already knew

Hurt my head listening to his high pitched whiney voice

I’m not a fan of this album. Not one song I enjoyed. Gave it a go, though.

It's very generic early 90's alternative. I would have been cool with this playing in the background in a little indie coffee co-op in the mid 2000's. I don't want to actually listen to it.

Why, Jeff? Why. Such an annoying voice, and too much noise.

Too sad and slow for my taste

Tragic story about this guy. Lots of talent but not my cup of tea

this? now this is that kinda stuff i do not like

Sleepy music some of the beats were ok. Knew \"hallelujah\"

I went into it only knowing Hallelujah. I do ultimately understand why this album is so highly regarded, it’s beautifully written and performed. Lyrically it’s strong for most of it, and of course Jeff Buckley’s story is a tragedy, but this album does nothing for me. Eternal Life is the only one I would consider listening to again on my own time. In general it’s not my taste. It’s just kind of boring to me and too slow - I went into it for some reason figuring that was going to be case and I was correct. Corpus Christi Carol sounded incredible and angelic and I think it’s a high point of the album, but still not for my personal taste. I suspect this will be one of my lower rated albums on the list.

Arguably has a good voice, but I didn't find any of these songs particularly deep, interesting, or enjoyable. The cover of Hallelujah was fine, but nothing to get excited about.

If you’re into the emotion behind music, it’s not really there. The music is great if you are trying to set a mood but otherwise feels very hollow. Not my genre at all but was great on Shrek.

average singer and subpar songwriter

wow, what a stinker - absolutely ghastly ululating

Overrated

Zzzzzzzzzzzz

słabe bardzo, kicz

Not my style

Overrated

Not my thing, so didn't really engage. The songs or the performances didn't really grab me, so not much else I can say about this really. Hallelujah is an improvement on Leonard Cohen, but then that's not really difficult.

What a slog to get through. Wake me up when this album ends.

This is one if the worst things I've ever listened to. 90s soft rock is awful. Plus he ruined a Leonard Cohen song. Would give it less than 1 star if I could.

Mojo Pin- 7/10 Grace- 6/10 Last Goodbye- 2/10 Lilac Wine- 3/10 So Real- 2/10 Hallelujah- 0/10 Lover, You Should've Come Over- 4/10 Corpus Christi Carol- 1/10 Eternal Life- 1/10 Dream Brother- 2/10 Forget Her- 3/10 Grace- 2/10

To slooooooooooooow

This is right up there with the worst albums I have ever heard! With the ever-so-slight exception of Eternal Life, this is nothing but sheer auditory abuse! I'm not entirely sure why he's imitating a bag of drowning cats because legend will have you believe that Jeff can actually sing, and pretty well too; this is definitely not proof of that. If you take away the god awful vocals there may be a hint of somewhat enjoyable music left as there is some nice guitar and drum work in there, otherwise, I'd rather two well hung men violently penetrate my ears than hear this again!

Staright garbage

Looks bad-Katy. Little does she know I'm mad at her and she's bad because she didn't call me sexy. What a bitch :((((

The album is consistent and Buckley has a great voice, but it’s not really for me.

Uggg. First listen is a slog. So real is the first stand out song. This sounds like every local generic bar band. First album so far that I actively wanted to turn off.

One decent track

Già lo conosco, capolavoro
