Apr 08 2025

Apart from the tracks I had already heard there wasn’t much to this album. The good songs are good. The rest of the album is raking over the same Morrissey ground

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Apr 09 2025

Hard to pick a favourite as they were all somewhat similar. Enjoyed it, but I we definitely background music.

The Cars by The Cars
Apr 10 2025

Can’t think of a better opening three songs on a debut. An incredible piece of work and full of ideas. Excellent.

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Apr 12 2025

Not exactly cheerful. But a solid album and I can see the argument for some grunge albums to be on the list. Made me wonder what made all these Seattle lead singers decide to sing in the same way. Most of the songs were too long Clearly they have an excellent guitarist.

Imagine by John Lennon
Apr 13 2025

Seems like I might not like John Lennon, now I know. Imagine - massively overplayed and not a good song. Extremely wealthy man tells people to imagine there’s no possessions. Jealous Guy - Bryan Ferry did it better, and his version isn’t tinged by being sung by a wife beater. Most of the rest of the album felt like sub Beatles filler. Some really great keyboard work redeems some of it. Seems like the Beatles must have helped John Lennon not to write shit songs quite a lot. Can’t imagine listening to this again this lifetime.

Low-Life by New Order
Apr 14 2025

Never heard this before. Thought it was a great mix of electronic and post punk. No one would accuse him of being a great singer, but it works

Apr 15 2025

All the singles are excellent. One of my favourite REM albums. The start of side two is less good, but still good, and what an excellent ending. A very strong album. Excellent arrangements. I think the album can be summed up in two words. Beautiful and sad.

Suede by Suede
Apr 16 2025

Some really great songs on this album. Will definitely listen again. Animal Nitrate was the only one I recognised but Sleeping Pills, So Young and the Next Life were all very strong. Excellent guitar work. A really impressive debut

London Calling by The Clash
Apr 17 2025

Ten days in and we have our first five star album. Makes me more glad that I didn’t use five stars for any other albums where I considered it, this is a cut above. Rudy Can’t Fail, Spanish Bombs and Lost in the Supermarket stood out of this listen through. Makes the 72 minutes wasted on the Marshall Mathers LP seem even worse when compared. Unlike John Lennon’s Imagine, this showed so much imagination. Really another level.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Apr 18 2025

Just some people doing an impression of music from 50/60/70 years ago. Did we need this? I've not heard much that made me think there was any originality. Not offensive in any way, but not innovative either. Wouldn’t listen again; it sounds like people doing an impression of an older band. Cliches abound.

The Next Day by David Bowie
Apr 19 2025

Certainly not the best Bowie, but a solid album. I enjoyed how does the grass grow and love is lost This was fine not incredible

I Against I by Bad Brains
Apr 21 2025

This was, interesting mix of styles. They can definitely play

A Girl Called Dusty by Dusty Springfield
Apr 22 2025

This was great. Amazing voice, great arrangement, a small number of songs needed more work (colouring book?). But lots to enjoy. Definitely cool.

Marquee Moon by Television
Apr 23 2025

Outstanding. I thought this was really interesting. The guitar style’s very different. Loved it.

Clandestino by Manu Chao
Apr 24 2025

Different. Was quite nice. Don’t know whether not understanding the lyrics means makes it more likely it’ll only be background music. It was perfectly acceptable background music

1984 by Van Halen
Apr 25 2025

I thought this was really good. I’ve just listened before but I enjoyed it again. Great fun

Guero by Beck
Apr 26 2025

Solid heard a few before. Think this could be the definition of a 3star. Seems appropriate.

Coles Corner by Richard Hawley
Apr 28 2025

This was ok. Seemed like one that needed repeat listens

The Poet by Bobby Womack
May 02 2025

Alright

Black Monk Time by The Monks
May 04 2025

Weird and hard to track down but interesting

Hotel California by Eagles
May 06 2025

Thought I’d hate it. Never listened to the eagles before so there must be a reason. Loved it. Great singers, great guitarists.

Imperial Bedroom by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
May 08 2025

Not doing any harm. Surprisingly hard to track down.

Brutal Youth by Elvis Costello
May 09 2025

Downhill fast after the first few tracks. Saved by the opening

This Is Fats Domino by Fats Domino
May 10 2025

After two days of elvis costello this was a real breath of fresh air

Country Life by Roxy Music
May 11 2025

Great album I enjoyed a real good time

Tommy by The Who
May 12 2025

Outstanding. Loved it.

May 13 2025

I have listened to a U2 album before, but it was one of their supposedly weaker albums, and rubbish. I was hopeful that this, which I understand is their magnificent octopus, would be better. The first three tracks are all overplayed, but have at least something to them. The rest of the album is appalling. How anyone could listen to One Tree Hill or most of the others and not want to punch Bono in the face, I do not understand. The fake overwrought meaningfulness of it was really rough. Every single song on the album was at least one, sometimes two minutes too long. It wasn’t helped by coming the day after Tommy by The Who. But this really was the most awful dogshit. Fuck U2 Why did you do this to me Brian Eno. For the first time I wish no stars was an option. You better not give me u2 again tomorrow

May 14 2025

Enjoyed most of this, have heard before. Some really strong songs, but thought there were probably too many songs. Not sure another cover of Danny boy was really needed. Still enjoyable but maybe not a double album worth.

Butterfly by Mariah Carey
May 15 2025

No thanks

Queen Of Denmark by John Grant
May 21 2025

Weird but some of it was interesting. I can’t see myself listening to this again but the backing band were really impressive

Purple Rain by Prince
May 22 2025

I mean it’s obviously 5 stars

E.V.O.L. by Sonic Youth
May 23 2025

Probably would grow on relistening

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
May 24 2025

He’s got a great voice. I thought side one sounded like McCartney. First album I’ve noticed the songs being shorter than they appeared. Apart from the singles it was still good nothing stuck around long enough to be boring, and this guy. Really can sjng

Talking Timbuktu by Ali Farka Touré
May 25 2025

In offensive world background music

Grace by Jeff Buckley
May 26 2025

5 stars no doubt. Great voice great guitar playing

May 27 2025

Much better than I thought it would be. I can kind of see what people mean now. I thought POWER was the stand out track for me, but generally, surprisingly good

Hysteria by Def Leppard
May 28 2025

Too cheesy, songs too long, some nice guitar sound but the lyrics were properly bad.

21 by Adele
May 29 2025

Really good. Great voice, pleasant pop songs.

Tago Mago by Can
May 30 2025

Heavy going. Too weird for me

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
May 31 2025

Seems a pattern of albums with no lyrics scoring 4 ⭐️

Nixon by Lambchop
Jun 01 2025
Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Jun 06 2025

I mean obviously 5. What an album

Opus Dei by Laibach
Jun 09 2025

Better than expected

Fetch The Bolt Cutters by Fiona Apple
Jun 12 2025

Didn’t love this started ok but went downhill. Never listened to apple before don’t know if they’re all like this

Rio by Duran Duran
Jun 17 2025
Jun 24 2025

I'm mean its fine isn't it. you can see why the singles were the singles, they were a good bit better than the . Its not amazing, but its certainly not bad.

Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention
Jun 25 2025

She’s got an amazing voice, and he’s a great guitarist. Hard to argue with

Jun 30 2025

Perfectly acceptable and inoffensive, i thought her voice was going to be annoying, but it turned out well.

Mothership Connection by Parliament
Jul 03 2025

Certainly funky. I found this very pleasantly groovy. Incredible bass playing and fat sound. Best track - Give up the Funk

Parallel Lines by Blondie
Jul 05 2025

Fine no one’s I loved that I hadn’t heard before but all solid.

C'est Chic by CHIC
Jul 07 2025

Lovely smooth stuff. liked this more than i expect, the bass was absolutely lovely, and the guitar work was even better than i expected songs like Savoir Faire

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Jul 08 2025

Didn’t love it, he’s got a good voice a lot of them felt like general grooves rather than songs. Shan’t listen again.

Live! by Fela Kuti
Jul 09 2025
